MASS DEATH OF: The Jonestown 918
On 18 November 1978, 918 Americans died in a single afternoon at the Peoples Temple commune in Jonestown, Guyana, after leader Jim Jones ordered followers to consume cyanide-laced liquid. No court ever heard the case, no independent forensic record has established the individual circumstances of each death, and the chain of command behind the final orders remains undocumented. The question of how many of the 918 acted under coercion, and who carried out the orders, is unresolved to this day.
