- 0:02[upbeat music] Hey, everybody. Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 160 today. Ooh.
- 0:19Got off to a little bit of a late start, not that anybody'll know that, but- Now they do. Now they do, 'cause- Hope everyone had a great happy 414 day. 4/14. Oh, it has always been good, and yes. Yes.
- 0:33The pre-gaming JK to my right, uh, Tony across from me. Odie. And the, I don't know, Poseidon outside or who's that guy that throws the rain down? That's an awful lot of freaking rain.
- 0:44It was raining inside the building again. Not inside the podcast studio, though. There's a lot of standing water outside my house, which rarely happens. Yeah. Like outside on my sidewalks, which whoa.
- 0:53Well, it was a, a short-lived but intense downpour. Yeah. Also, it was 72 degrees today, at least at some point- Yeah... in the day. I, I was like, no, I just gonna st- I'm gonna be outside. Yeah, rain on me. Rain.
- 1:07Rain on me. I, uh, very dulcet rain. Rain, rain. Yeah, yeah. Yep, so- [laughs] So JK decided to, uh, dodge the drops by not heading home. [laughs] Take- Exactly...
- 1:22taking an easy way back through the- You get a hot dog today, though? Yes. Western dog. Nice. With the barbecue sauce? Barbecue sauce- Oh, hot damn... cheese and bacon.
- 1:32That could be a new, like, topic for like- That's every Wednesday, man. All you have to do is go there. Yeah, it's the hot dog special. [laughs] We, well, now that it's getting better out, I'll- Right...
- 1:42be down there more often. Yeah. Come on. Well, JK's got, he's got the afternoon kind of semi-open on Wednesdays. Well, I, well, I [laughs] if nothing else, I, I, I just wanna keep that happening there.
- 1:57[laughs] Like, I'll buy it just- So they keep doing it because somebody's- Keep doing it... uh, availing- Somebody's buying it [laughs]... themselves of it? Otherwise they'll just stop.
- 2:04It's like, he's like, "Why are we even doing this shit?" Speaking of that- [laughs]... I only realized Saturday that Klinger's- S-H-T-U-R-D-... has things other than cheeseburgers [laughs] for lunch.
- 2:15Well- They had a hot dog and a polish that looked, sounded really good... I thought it was basically not worth doing a burger there unless Frank's cooking it. Yeah, Frank. I agree with that after Saturday's trip.
- 2:26Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it was sub- subpar. There's Frank, Frank just y- like looking at you with those eyes like, "Dude, really? You want me to do that?"
- 2:35[laughs] You know, I s- I said I wasn't gonna do it. [laughs] Oh, no. I said I wasn't... I'm gonna do it. All right. Should I do it? I'm gonna do it. I said I wasn't gonna do it. Pushing the button.
- 2:43What's the pushing the button? Hey, everybody. Welcome to the radio program. Caller, who do we have on the line? What's happening, y'all? This is 16 Heather. Heather. Right on, [laughs] man. Hey, um- Is there a pulse?
- 2:58Look, quick, quick, um, a quick status report because we got another caller calling in a little bit later, but, uh, where are you at today? I'm almost to Baton Rouge.
- 3:08Uh, tomorrow morning I'm gonna, uh, take a picture in front of my 32nd state capital building in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. That's an awesome accomplishment, man. Yeah. Well, 32 out of 50, that's not bad, huh?
- 3:23The next, the next 18 are pretty far flung out that way in the west, aren't they? Oh, I'll tell you what, it's gonna be a challenge, but I'm gonna do it.
- 3:32Like, take the train out to Seattle and kinda get a good headstart out that way? [laughs] No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I think I'm gonna ride it. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna do it.
- 3:44So I'll tell y'all about my plans for the future in a future podcast. But, um, but for right now, um, I am just trying to stay out of the woods because, man, we got some weather coming in here.
- 3:58So I gotta, I gotta get to this park. I mean, I, I got a plan, so if it gets really nasty I'm gonna bring us into the bathroom, which is in a concrete structure.
- 4:10But if it doesn't get too nasty, we'll, we'll just, we'll just ride it out on underneath the, um, you know, underneath the awning, you know, or the, the business pavilion. And, uh, there's electricity there- Oh, yes...
- 4:22so I'm, I can charge my phone and all that. I'm, I'm taking my time because I know it's too cold up there for me right now, so.
- 4:30Eh, up here in Milwaukee it was 72 today, but it's not gonna last more than the one day of to- Right... of, uh, of yester- Wednesday. 72? Yeah. [laughs] I, I, I think that was the low here last night. Very greasy.
- 4:47Last- Slimy... I woke up underneath my sleeping bag, I'm like, "Oh my God, I'm sweating." If you're me, you don't need to sweat. If you're- Yeah, exactly... anyone, I don't think you necessarily need to [laughs] sweat.
- 4:58Or celebrate the thought and whatever, but- Big dancing Where, where, is, is Jimmy there? Nope, no Jim. Uh, he's got some, he's got- No Jimmy? No, and he's got some, uh, issues to deal with. He's gotta...
- 5:12He just moved and now he's gonna have to move again, I think, almost right away, so. Oh, damn. We'll t- we'll try, we'll try and get him situated before you show up. Well, I'll give him a shout out.
- 5:20There's, yeah, there's a- I'll give him a shout out to him... there's an under drama going on. For giving me that battery charger, and that batter- that battery charger has been a lifesaver for the last couple days, so.
- 5:31Oh, right on. Yeah, he's downstairs pr- they're doing band practice today, so he's down in the lower part of the building. Tomorrow will be capital number two, number 32. We'll l- Right on...
- 5:41we'll look for the, uh, the picture on the Facebook. Heather the tricycle on, on Facebook. It'll, it'll, it'll be there. And you know what? I, I got a new seat. I got a, I, I got one of those, uh- Saddle...
- 5:54one of those swing dealies. I got one of those swing seats without, without the, um, without the taint killer. Oh, cool Um, and, uh, and but one of the screws fell out, so now it's all squeaky. So it sounds like I'm,
- 6:13it sounds like I'm, uh, pedaling a jalopy up the street, like eek-err, eek-err, eek-err. And I'm like, "Ah, damn it." Put a little, uh- But if it, if it was because- Put a little chain lube up under there... it's warm.
- 6:23I have to stop by a hardware store and get a screw. But anyway, other than that, I'm doing great, and we're, and we're just dodging weather at the moment, so. Right on. All right, man, well, we're gonna let you go.
- 6:36You got kind of a little bit of a noisy line there, and, uh, we're gonna get our other caller going. But thanks for calling in, and good luck on number 32 tomorrow. All right. No problem, man.
- 6:45Look, uh, I love you guys, and I'll see you, uh, in late July for sure. All right. Sounds good. Big Sexy out. See you. All right. Big Sexy making number 32 there in Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge is the worst.
- 6:59Hope it has some cr- Is it- It, it, it was like his- I've never been there. That's why... well, no, it's like his nemesis, but his closest- State capital [laughs] Yeah... yeah.
- 7:07That would be like, like Milwaukee going, like looking at Madison going like, "I hate you, Madison. You know how much- That's kinda true... I hate you?" Yeah. "I hate you, Madison.
- 7:17Why, why do you get all the state glory?" I mean, just 'cause you're in the middle of the state? That doesn't make sense. You're not actually in the middle of the sen- [laughs] Okay.
- 7:30Did anybody do any, uh, Sea Otter reading or looking or get any impressions of the coverage of said event out there on the West Coast? The- I looked at some pretty pictures. Yeah, I was...
- 7:42Well, uh, maybe it's because of the- I got-... the places that I follow-... very itchy... that I got sort of a stilted view of what was going on out there. But, uh, you know what? I'm gonna push the button again. Hmm.
- 7:54Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Hello there. How are you guys tonight? Well, that sounds suspiciously- Chewy... like a Chewy. Yeah. Hey, Chewy. [coughs] I, I can see- Hey, guys...
- 8:06hey, you know what? Um, y- I think you're in s- [coughs]... I think you're in second place on the number of calls you've made into the show over the- Yeah... you know, past few years, at, like, 18. Yeah.
- 8:14Plus, you've also been, like, live, I think, a time or three. Yeah, yeah. But, uh, Big Sexy was call- Yeah... 51 today now. [laughs] Ah. He did a short, uh, he did- Chewy, I'm catching up to that. Well, right.
- 8:26He did a short little call in to say that he's gonna hit his 32nd state capital tomorrow in Baton Rouge. That's impressive. Which he hates. That's really impressive. Really, isn't it?
- 8:36Which he has, it's his arch nemesis, even though it's in, like, as close as he can get to home, he has been avoiding it every trip out of [laughs]... out of Louisiana.
- 8:44It's like, "Just let me get this fucking out of the way." Hey, uh, hey, Chewy, did you do any, uh, Sea Otter coverage, uh, lurking on the old, uh, I don't know, face place or, you know, news sites or anything?
- 8:57Ooh, uh- Did you get any impressions of that thing? No. You know what? It w- I, it seems, um... I've never been, 'cause, like, it's just a bad time of year for me.
- 9:07Um, and I also feel like it's one of those things that got to be so commercial that it was less about the race and more about... It was, it was just another demo show than anything else. So I've just never been.
- 9:18I, I haven't been there. And, and you know what? And you're right. I saw a couple things on Facebook about it, and that's about it. I really haven't seen anything else about it. Yeah. Well, I've been to several- So...
- 9:28of them from when they were a little bit more, um... Well, first of all, it was industry only for quite a while, and then they opened it up to the public.
- 9:34I don't know if that happened this year or if they're back to that or not, but, you know, kinda once Interbike went away- Mm-hmm... it became kind of the de facto Interbike. But i- i- True, yeah...
- 9:44everybody that goes there has their own, like, agenda. Like, when we went there regularly, it was fatbike.com.
- 9:50So we're pretty much looking at fatbike stuff, and maybe drinking beer at the Surly tent and doing, you know, a few other things. Yeah. But really, all the other chafe there didn't really attract the attention.
- 10:00So m- JK, cover the mic... most, most of what I caught this last couple of, uh- Cover the cooler... couple of days was bike packing oriented stuff- Oh... 'cause I've been following those sites pretty well.
- 10:09Which, yeah, you know, and, uh, I think bike packing, uh, I know you like doing it. I like doing it a lot, too. I just think it's... I, I, I can't imagine that, that that would be that much of the industry.
- 10:20And there's, I don't think there's that many of us that do it, really. I mean, everybody gives it a shot, and then it's, that's about it. They haven't, they're not willing to give it more than one try, it seems like.
- 10:29Hey, I got... Like, you know when I was talking earlier today, I have a, uh, Bob trailer that ga- that a guy bought just for that purpose, and he used it once in town, and now he wants to sell it. Didn't like the idea.
- 10:40Oh, and it's one of- So, uh, I think it-... it's one of the ones with the suspension and everything, huh? Yeah, yeah. Did you give him 50 bucks? And he's just like, "No." [laughs] Yeah.
- 10:49Well, he, if, if anybody wants to- Uh, yeah. It's sitting in my garage... if anybody wants to buy that Bob trailer, just, uh- You can give me 235... yeah, yeah. Just, uh- But...
- 10:57get, get ahold of us at, uh, info@, or greg@fullspectrumcycling.com, and I'll get you Ron's contact info so you can make, make Chewy a happy man by getting it out of his garage. Garage.
- 11:09[laughs] Yeah, right out of my shop. My shop is so... It is...
- 11:12Even though the weather's been absolute crap around here, uh, it is ve- it is now the, "I need my bicycle fixed, hurry up, so I can go ride with my kids" season right now.
- 11:20It's the warmest, happiest looking place and, but yeah. So we are moving the, our shop again. [laughs] Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. The new, the new th- the new norm is moving the shop as often as possible- [laughs]...
- 11:35so people have to keep chasing us- Hotfoot... to find out where we are. Hotfoot, hotfoot, hotfoot. I'm, I'm gonna say this right now. Hotfoot. We move to that location- Hotfoot... we're not moving again... hotfoot.
- 11:43We move to that location, I'm not riding my bike there. Oh, yeah. That's true. It's 'cause- 'Cause it's a block from my house. Yeah.
- 11:49So the, so it was raining inside the current shop today, like literally rain raining in there. Now we'll be the rain. Yeah, so. Now we'll be the rain. And I just signed the lease at the new place.
- 11:59[laughs] So we're like, "Yeah, we're gonna be moving." Now we're the rain. Now we're the rain. You're, you're- We're the rain. You're the rain. Are you getting...
- 12:06Are you guys, are you guys getting- Parts of what we got overnight last night We just got hammered hard for like an hour and a half, like- Yeah... a lot. Mm. And- Oh, we, we had it, we had it all overnight.
- 12:16I mean, you know, you look at, you know- [clears throat]... coming our way, parts of, uh, the parts of Iowa got hit by tornadoes pretty hard.
- 12:24TOP and that area just west of Mason City and stuff got hit pretty good with tornadoes. Um, but every- places around Rochester now had like four to five inches of rain. Oh, wow. Yeah. So it's, uh- Wow.
- 12:38I think we got- Yeah... maybe an inch and a half... we were a few wee- Yeah. Oh, man. We, it, we, it was hard, hard pulling and, you know, gusts of 60 to 80 mile an hour winds. Yep. It was rather wicked, actually.
- 12:49Wicked. Too early for that, but- Have you been on a, have you been on a RAGBRAI or a, a, uh, anti-RAGBRAI ride where you've gotten hammered with that kind of weather? [laughs] That flat wind. Oh, God. We did...
- 13:01It's been quite a while ago, but we did one that it rained. I won't say it rained. It, it was one of the ones we did for Trek Bicycle, so it was maybe one of the first ones we did in the early '90s.
- 13:12It rained so much that people would literally get to the point where you sat and had pancakes and you just stood in the rain and ate your pancakes like you were standing in the sunshine.
- 13:20[laughs] You just got so used to it. Did they soak up the rain and just- Yeah, the best part of that was...
- 13:25You know, and so at the time, think about, uh, Rich Gosen, myself, Trey Hubbin, um, the DA boys, we all, we were riding in groups and we were carrying bicycles on, um, we were riding bicycles with tools and trailers and fixing bicycles for people at, at Trek's expense, and, um, it was kind of a promo deal we were doing.
- 13:42And, uh, we stopped one morning, we're eating pancakes and sausages like Willie's had, and Hubbin goes, "Finish eating, but don't look down at your plate."
- 13:51And so we all did, and then we looked down and your plate is literally sink up to your hands from fixing people's bikes, so you got all the greasy water. Basically your food- Ew [laughs]...
- 13:59is just a little greasy, slimy, greasy water. [laughs] And everybody goes, "Eh, big deal," just keeps eating. [laughs] Yeah. I d- Hot ham, hot ham water. [laughs] I forgot what the first year I did it was, maybe '95.
- 14:11It's all ham. Maybe earlier than that. Ear- It's all hot ham water. Whatever, in there.
- 14:15[laughs] And the very first day I did go, I had a brand new Kelty tent, and I think it rained probably four or five inches overnight, and, uh, our buddy Franz from the old Ralph racing crew had pitched his tent and there was a r- there was a, there was actually a river running through his tent.
- 14:34[laughs] Yeah. Jesus. I was ex- Keep it going. I, I do remember that, yeah. Keep it going. Keep it going, man. Yeah. I was actually really thrilled- That's really funny... with how good the, um-
- 14:42Yeah, it's like, "Oh, what? What?"... how good the Kelty did as long as you- The Kelty, I tell you... didn't touch anything. What the hell are you talking about over there, Bud? [laughs] No, no, no.
- 14:49I'm just like, "Hey, you're just laughing." JK pre-game today, Ron, if you can't tell. [coughs] Pre-game- I, I can tell... and, uh, current game. [laughs] Hey. Hey.
- 14:58What do- Speaking, speaking of pre-gaming, let's, uh, let's get to the top of that hill. Top of the hill. [bell ringing] Woo. 'Cause you know he has a long ride ahead of him. That's flat.
- 15:07[laughs] Today we have Amorphix Fluffy Gem again, just 'cause it was pouring and we had to go somewhere close to get beer. [laughs] But it's real- It's a, it's a great beer-... really good stuff...
- 15:17and it's not ridiculously heavy. Hazy IPA, 6.3%. 6., 6.3, that's reasonable. Very tasty. Good artwork from our, our buddy Drew. Yeah, we've talked about it before, but it's good stuff and it's super close.
- 15:29I'm drinking a Hamms because- Oh... I'm on my, uh- He's on probation from the pre-game... I'm on probation. [laughs] From the pre-game deal. Hey, I understand my fucking place, man. [laughs] Oh, boy.
- 15:43Hey, how, so is hockey season winding down, Ron? Chewy Ron Chewy. Well- Ron Chewy. It's, it's usually over with now. Chewy Ron Chewy Ron.
- 15:52The guy that I do, uh, the podcast with, Brad Bergy, um, asked me to come and evaluate goalies for his under 15 girls team, and now I'm one of their coaches, so we got another partially month.
- 16:05We haven't decided, we're definitely gonna do a podcast because if y- if anybody's ever listened to Brad and I and the crap we give each other, now just imagine the two of us standing at a bench with a bunch of teenagers in front of us and just imagine how much crap those kids get.
- 16:19It's, uh, it's [laughs] what is a joke that Brad and I make, that he was missing the net when he'd shoot at me all the time, then it got to the point where I would throw my glove in the corner and he couldn't, he, he would just shoot the puck into the corner instead where my glove was at.
- 16:32And we were telling this to the girls and they're looking at us like, "What is wrong with you guys?" [laughs] And, and we chirp each other the whole time we're coaching, which I don't think normally happens.
- 16:40So, uh, [coughs] excuse me. We're gonna do a podcast either next week just before we go to our first tournament or the week after that when we get done with that first tournament.
- 16:51That should be, [laughs] that should be a lot of fun. That sounds fun. If it weren't- Oh... if it weren't for Letterkenny, I wouldn't even know what chirping means- Right... because I'm not a hockey player. Mm-hmm.
- 17:01But having watched Letterkenny, I now kind of understand [laughs] what it is. I didn't realize that chirping was not just a standard term. I thought every sport had chirping. No.
- 17:11Well, they have, yeah, different versions of the same heckling sort of a, a narrative, but I don't know that they- Yeah... call it chirping in, in, in, uh, I haven't- Oh, okay. Not a team sports player. I, eh. Eh. Eh.
- 17:22May, may be bowling, but I don't know how much chirping- Yeah... you do at bowling. Yeah. But other than, uh, in speaking of the podcast- Bowling heckling is kind of- We- Man, you're a special breed...
- 17:31how bad is it that there's a, there's, is it- [laughs] I worked at Landmark for a little bit... how bad is it that they get, they get a bowling show? [laughs] Ooh. They made a movie about bowling kind of sort of.
- 17:42You know, the Big Lebowski is kind of a movie. Well, nobody fucks with the Jesus. They got a lot of bowling movies out there.
- 17:46There's a weekly, there's a weekly comedy series, I think it's on CBS, about a guy going to become a professional bowler. Uh, on CBS, yes. It looks horrible. Is it out? I mean, it, yeah, it looks like a whatever, yeah.
- 18:00I like the idea. Yeah. Inspirational and what have you. But it's, no. [laughs] Don't. Sorry, it's top of the hill, Ron. Why are you telling me to... Okay, shit[laughs]
- 18:14I could just, I could just push this button down like this and then- Hey, Ron, did you- It'll be fine. [laughs] Ron, did you make it to the top of the hill or...? [coughs] I have to use those buttons every now and then.
- 18:24Yeah. [laughs] It's not- Oh... it's, it's not a cough button, it's a... It, it- So have you made it to the top of the hill? Anyway, um, oh, we, I was just gonna mention that, uh, I am drinking an Iowa Eagle.
- 18:36I think it's out of Cedar Rapids. It's an American lager, 4.2. It's okay. Yeah, it's, it was, it was, it was in the fairway and I thought, "Ooh, I have never tried this one."
- 18:47It's like, I'm, I've kinda gotten back into lagers. You know, we just got back from, from Boston, and I don't think you can find maybe two lagers in the entire city.
- 18:56Everything is either, you know, is some sort of East Coast IPA, and [coughs] that's what they like out there, so that's all you can get your hands on, but- Yeah... there were some good ones. What was happening in Boston?
- 19:08We were there for the college championship. Oh. In hockey, of course. And, uh, we did go to, uh, w- uh, this is the third time we've been there for it. We always go to, uh, Union... Uh, is it called Union Oyster Bar?
- 19:21So I- supposedly the oldest oyster bar in the city of Boston. And, um, uh, Sam Adams makes them a, a, a lager that's their own, um,
- 19:34that's got, uh, glasses in it because of the, there's a whole big story about, uh, the glasses boat breaking open and pouring glasses into the streets of Boston in the Italian section.
- 19:45It's, and so because that, they're right in that area, they- Hmm... they have their own... And I, from my understanding is, is you can't buy that beer anywhere else. It's just in that bar and that's it.
- 19:54Oh, that's- That's good... that's pretty cool. It's nothing, it's nothing fantastic or fancy, it's just, it's just kinda cool that you can do that, so. Right. And I convinced Bea to finally eat her first oyster. Uh-huh.
- 20:05How'd that go? Well, it took a while. It took, it took her son and daughter-in-law two days of heckling to finally get it accomplished, but we did it. And, and she didn't throw it back up.
- 20:17Um, I could, I could send you a picture of one of the faces she makes, if you'd like. [laughs] Yeah, we don't have a whole lot of pictures this week- That would-...
- 20:24except for leaky roofs, so yeah, if you wanna pop- [laughs]... pop it over by the old text- All right... we'll, we'll, uh- Yeah... we'll get her going. [laughs] I don't get the oyster. I- What?
- 20:34It always tastes like snot to me. I, it's like- Oh-... salty snot... my God. Even fried. Even fried, I don't get it. Well, all right. Uh, briny. I- The briny's. Everybody wants some briny's. Ding, da-ding, ding, ding.
- 20:47You find a person that wants the briny's, you can bounce it off that. Oh, come on. Now we need, uh, we need, uh, w- [laughs] we- You're gonna be editing this show...
- 20:55we need, we need some, we need some translation on this show today. We need some, yeah. The briny's. Yeah. I'm sorry. Who, who's the- Jim, Jim... who's the best translator over there now? [laughs] So, um- Oh, shit...
- 21:05and, but, and you're getting the same, that the, they're, uh, they, what they taste like. They're... I don't think they taste like anything. I think whatever you put on 'em is what they taste like.
- 21:14That being said, they gave us, they, we get, we get six, we get a half dozen, and they give us three of one kind and three of another kind, and by God, if they didn't taste different. Really?
- 21:25I, I was, I, it complete- They looked exactly the same. One was in a bigger shell than the other one, but they tasted com- totally different. So different- And I'm like, "This can't be real"...
- 21:31different, like, species of oysters, or different preparations of- Yeah... said mussel? Different species. No, it was, it was two different species, and I don't remember.
- 21:40I, there's one that must be the standard one, and then there was the almond, if it's something that's more of a bay. It says it was a smaller, it was a cooler looking shell.
- 21:47It's not, I have no other way to describe it, but, um- They're oysters- Yeah, there's, there's two different-... not mussels. All right then. And there, and there was- [laughs]... a definite difference in taste.
- 21:55It was weird. Cool. Not that it was fun, it was just weird. Yeah. So we talked about your- So-... your, uh, your bob trailer that you had from your buddy.
- 22:04Did, does he have a fat bike that's going down the road too, if somebody's looking for a fat bike?
- 22:08Yeah, you know, he's got a, he's got, um, and, uh, the reason is is they, he's, he's from, he was a doctor here in Rochester, and they've now moved to, um, they're living in an apartment in Florida, and basically because they kinda like doing stuff in Florida more so it's an easier hub for them to travel to where they wanna go.
- 22:26So they're selling, [laughs] they've sold down their stable of bicycles. They are now down to 10.
- 22:32[laughs] And the one they got is, uh, I, I suppose it's a medium, um, one of the, and I, they sit us into my shop right now. It's a fricking carbon framed bike, you know, the Alaskan. So, um, Dave's getting easy.
- 22:45And, and here's the cool thing. All the money that Dave and Lisa are making off of, like, I went to their house today and
- 22:51picked up some stuff from them for the house in Decorah and some other people, but everything that they're selling that they're not taking with them, they're donating it to Moose, the Moose Lodge Charities.
- 23:02Oh, that's cool. Hmm. Well, good on you- Yeah, that's really cool... giving back to the community you're bailing out of, for sure. Yeah.
- 23:08Well, that, I think that's more, that's more nationally, because when COVID hit, Dave retired when COVID hit, and so their big plans to go overseas and travel for, like, a year got shut down, so they did, like, this weird little travel of the United States by themselves to places.
- 23:22And one of their, what they found was is that joining the Moose Lodge or joining the Elks, where, where you and I would think it's kinda weird.
- 23:29I shouldn't say that 'cause I'm an Elks member, but I belong to the Eagles, I should say. But, um, joining a club like that, when you travel the way they do, gives you a parking lot. There's some safety.
- 23:39You can, you can park in and sleep in the car. You camp overnight. Um, there, the, you know, you can go in and have a beer. You get to, you know, it's, it's just kind of a nice community to hang out with.
- 23:49It's a little safe haven for you. So I think that's why they're giving back to that to start with, 'cause that's, that's a nice way to do things. And they, and it helps them in their travels, in the United States anyway.
- 24:00Yeah, it seems like a lot of that was, uh, like Eagle Scouts.
- 24:03You f- you, you find a buddy that's an Eagle Scout in any, any city, but it takes, you know, only 7 or 8% of Scouts make it, so you know that's somebody that, uh, put the time in and is probably a pretty solid person.
- 24:14Like Aaron Domeier, for instance. [laughs]That the former s- the former Surly, um, demo driver, Aaron, was... He's a, he's like, "Oh, yeah, your son's gonna be an Eagle?" I'm like, "I think so. He's working pretty hard."
- 24:27He goes, "I'm an Eagle Scout." And he had his, he had his card right in his wallet. I'm like, "Well, that's pretty kickass, dude." Oh, you don't lose that thing. No, no.
- 24:35It's a, it's a rite of passage and a badge of courage all wrapped into one. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, so yes, I have a carbon bike in my, in my garage right now, in, in my shop. A what? It's driving me insane.
- 24:47It's the Alaskan framed carbon bike we've been talking about. Where... What are you doing? On your phone? Are you not listening? Yeah. What are you doing? What? Tony's on his phone. Yeah. I don't think he's- What?
- 24:53He's, he's paying attention. What's happening? Oh, yeah, you're- No, you said carbon. I don't get it. [laughs] Just because it doesn't have a battery on it yet- Eh, you know... doesn't mean it can't pay attention.
- 25:01What, what size is that thing? Ooh, ouch. I think it's a medium. Um, I didn't measure the frame. I just, I literally just rolled it in the garage. Dave's about, Dave's about 5'7", so it's a guy about that size.
- 25:12So is Dave- And I've, I've got a few things I gotta do, 'cause Dave tends to do Dave stuff to his bicycle that I have to undo so people, other, uh, so normal people can ride it, so. Gotcha.
- 25:22So it ha- doesn't have any suitors yet? Yeah. No. No. Well, it's just, I mean, it's hard to get fat bikes right now. I've got a guy that came in today- Right, yeah.
- 25:31Well- And he, he, he's doing a Wyatt, and that's eight weeks out, and we have an allocation of Surlys, but they're not coming till September. So if you're trying to find a fat bike for the- Right...
- 25:38summer beach season, you might wanna, you know- Yeah... let, let Ron know if you're the right size Just talk to us and just, like, wee. Yeah. We'll just- We're, we're really low. I think that's true...
- 25:47rip down to the nitty-gritty. [laughs] What the hell are you doing over there, Jeez? [laughs] He's gonna just- I, uh-... make me turn him off again...
- 26:00I'm still, uh [laughs] I'm still working, trying to find a medium Ogre to replace one that was stolen during the pandemic. I've had zero luck. They, like, don't exist.
- 26:09Yeah, I don't think- I mean, I can't find anything... you can't buy them new anymore, so I don't believe. No, but they got, they got frames, don't they? I've seen a few on Faceplace now and again for sale.
- 26:18It just, you gotta kinda- Yeah... sneak up on one somewhere. But this guy, he... The insurance company's gonna have to let him buy a used one, 'cause he's not gonna find one any other way. Right. What size is the dude?
- 26:28So I don't know what we're gonna do. Well, he gets a, he gets a large frame. He's a really big boy, but he's only about, he's like my size. He's, like, 5'10", 5'11", and he can ride a large okay.
- 26:38But he's a, he's a pretty big boy, so a stouter frame is better. Well, you know, what about, uh... Does it need to be an Ogre? What about, what was their, uh, kind of- OCR or whatever? The- No. The ECR? ECR? Yeah.
- 26:50That's, that's what I got from Chewy. Um- [laughs] Yeah... Last season or the last season... it's escaping me now, but they had one that was- Green Ogre?... really, really heavy duty... well, monkey. You could- Yeah.
- 26:59I've been, I've been trying to convince him into the, um, if he wa- It's something he wants to do, though, certainly.
- 27:04I've been kinda waiting to see if, uh, the Handsome boys, since they seem to be able to get things in, if they, they're gonna come up with anything in a 2.5 tire, 29 with a 2.5 tire on it.
- 27:14But, um, you know, even the Surly stuff, for the most part, a- anything that's, that's commuter or tou- touring, he has a 700C, and he, he's not so sure that that's what he wants. I actually was thinking about...
- 27:25So originally what I built him was a, uh, he had an old touring bike from the '70s, and I'm forgetting what brand it was.
- 27:33But we basically took all the parts off of that and put it on one of the XLXL frames from Handsome- Hmm... which was, you know, just basically a transfer from a '70s frame to a '70s frame, for the most part.
- 27:44And, uh- Oh... we built that up for him. That was, he loved that bike for... And then, and then he wanted to upgrade a little bit, so he went to the Ogre then, and then, you know, just...
- 27:52So you think about it, this guy's 64 and he's had three versions of the same bike his [laughs] entire life. [laughs] Well, he knows what he likes, I guess. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. Right on. All right, dude.
- 28:05Well, appreciate you calling in today. Got anything you wanna leave us with- Yeah... before we get the hell out of here? Yep. Well- And the dog attacks... sorry to get you down to the, on the twen- [laughs]...
- 28:12to the 20 seconds. You sniffed that dog's ass. Uh- With the clunker thing, the 20 seconds... well, I think that might be on the back burner now. I, because we signed a lease at this new spot, I don't know how,
- 28:25how welcome we'll be at the current location to do a bunch of bullfuckery, so I'm not- Oh, that was there? Okay... I'm not sure exactly. I think we're gonna probably try and figure something out later in the summer, so.
- 28:37Okay. Yeah. Well, then I'll get, I'll get the rest of my clunkers sold and bring the crew over for, to hang out. Yeah, I think my Wu-Tang clunker's- Oh, you do?... going down the road tomorrow, I hope. Oh, nice.
- 28:45That would be nice. Oh, cool. Yeah. So yeah- Well, thanks, thanks everybody... unfortunately, great idea but bad timing, so yeah, for sure. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, no kidding. Okay, I'm gonna let you guys go.
- 28:55I will talk to you more next week. All right, Chewy. Take it easy, Chewy. Later for you. All right. See you, fellas. Bye. Bye. Well, thank God we had Chewy and, uh, Big Sexy. Yeah. Killed some time. Killed some time.
- 29:06And why is life so hard, Gr- Sven? Yes? Why is life so hard? Um- No. Sorry... a quick stop at Bremen turned into a long time? No.
- 29:23[laughs] I don't know. No, I just am having to deal with goddamn Gates again. Oh, we can cut him right off there. That's just a- I know... a quick clippy clip on the old zip tie... I know that you're enjoying this.
- 29:34Y'all fuckers, oh, petty torments. Petty. All right, everybody, uh, we did it again. Thanks to Chewy and, and, and, and, and Big Sexy and, and, and JK- Yes... and Tony. Yeah, it was nothing us saying anything.
- 29:48We, we did it again. Ning, ning, ning, ning, ning, ning, ning. It's not so much the saying. It's the antics. [laughs] All right, everybody. Smile and nod, y'all. Yep. Good night. Next week.
