Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 0:09Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:31Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:36Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:42Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are diving
- 0:45Speaker 1: into your answers on who the greatest female singer of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the twenty first century is. We're asking the question of
- 0:51Speaker 1: what music, movies, and athletes you were listening to, watching
- 0:55Speaker 1: and rooting forward back in your teenage days Little Midsummer
- 0:58Speaker 1: Noestylgia Trip. And we're also digging into your suggestions for
- 1:01Speaker 1: future Disgraceland episodes. Of course, we've got your voicemails, texts
- 1:05Speaker 1: and more, and as always, a whole lotterer Rosie. All right,
- 1:10Speaker 1: disc goes, Let's get into it. So I was sixteen
- 1:22Speaker 1: years old in nineteen ninety and on my bedroom wall
- 1:25Speaker 1: I had this massive poster of Michael Jordan, the one
- 1:28Speaker 1: you might notice when he's soaring through the air, his
- 1:31Speaker 1: tongue is hanging out of his mouth and he's about
- 1:33Speaker 1: to dunk.
- 1:33Speaker 2: It's a great image.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I was, of course a Celtics fan, but Michael Jordan
- 1:38Speaker 1: MJ transcended sports. MJ wasn't a basketball player, he was
- 1:42Speaker 1: a cultural figure. It was okay to root for him
- 1:44Speaker 1: as long as you didn't root for him against the Celts.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And I was that way with the New York Mets too.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It was okay to root for the Mets in the
- 1:52Speaker 1: National League. And this was at a time. You get
- 1:54Speaker 1: to remember, this was before interlygue play in baseball, so
- 1:58Speaker 1: the Red Sox never played the Mets until the nineteen
- 2:01Speaker 1: eighty six World Series, and I rooted for the Mets
- 2:03Speaker 1: that whole season while also rooting for the Red Sox,
- 2:06Speaker 1: and both teams broke my heart that October. It was
- 2:08Speaker 1: like getting dumped by the same girl twice at the
- 2:12Speaker 1: same time or something.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I don't know. It sucked.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I was rooting for the Red Sox, so I was
- 2:16Speaker 1: obviously crushed when they lost, but I took zero joy
- 2:20Speaker 1: from the Mets win. Okay, just the whole thing sucked.
- 2:23Speaker 1: And by the time nineteen ninety rolled around the summer
- 2:27Speaker 1: of nineteen ninety. There was no Mets swag in my closet.
- 2:30Speaker 1: There were no dock good and posters on my walls.
- 2:32Speaker 1: There's no Red Sox gear either, and there wouldn't be
- 2:35Speaker 1: until the end of the decade when Pedro Martinez showed
- 2:37Speaker 1: up in Boston. I did have a life size Florida
- 2:42Speaker 1: ceiling poster of Metallica's Cliff Burton on my bedroom door.
- 2:46Speaker 1: In nineteen ninety. We hadn't yet heard Metallica's Black album.
- 2:49Speaker 1: We were still blasting nineteen eighty eight in Justice for
- 2:51Speaker 1: All and trying to figure out what we thought of
- 2:53Speaker 1: Cliff Burton's replacement, Jason Newstead.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Who we could barely hear on that record.
- 2:57Speaker 1: By the way I read that summer of nineteen ninety,
- 3:01Speaker 1: I read Helter Skelter. I was obsessed for some reason,
- 3:05Speaker 1: though I didn't listen to the Beatles' White Album. While
- 3:08Speaker 1: tearing through Vincent Buliosi's True Crime Opus, a book I
- 3:11Speaker 1: once took as gospel, but a lot of you know
- 3:13Speaker 1: that I now now think of it as a trove
- 3:17Speaker 1: of disinformation. Helter Skelter, I listened instead. I wasn't listening
- 3:21Speaker 1: to the White album, I listened instead to the Rolling
- 3:23Speaker 1: Stones Sticky Fingers album Can't You Hear Me Knocking Bitch Sway?
- 3:29Speaker 2: These songs seemed darker.
- 3:31Speaker 1: To me than anything on the White album, better fit
- 3:33Speaker 1: the world of nineteen sixty nine that I was building
- 3:36Speaker 1: in my head while obsessing over Squeaky From and Text
- 3:39Speaker 1: Watson Sticky Figures just grooved hard in ways that I
- 3:44Speaker 1: still can't explain. It's hard to also explain my teenage
- 3:49Speaker 1: tastes and how they evolved, how they changed, how they grew,
- 3:53Speaker 1: where they came from, how they grew into what they
- 3:55Speaker 1: are today. If it weren't for that summer in nineteen nine,
- 4:00Speaker 1: would I still be obsessed with the music in the
- 4:03Speaker 1: films that occupy so much of my thinking these days.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Obsessions has started back then, Obsessions with Martin Scorsese, with
- 4:11Speaker 1: Quentin Tarantino, with other thrillers, of course, Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You know, we're just talking to Michael Jordan, heavy metal,
- 4:18Speaker 1: true crime, gangster flicks, thrillers, classic rock, and even hardcore music.
- 4:23Speaker 1: This is right around the time I got into hardcore.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I wore out Sick of It All's full length album
- 4:27Speaker 1: Blood Sweat and No Tears back then. This is a
- 4:30Speaker 1: band that I didn't know it at the time, but
- 4:32Speaker 1: there were a band that I would I would later
- 4:34Speaker 1: tour with and open for on the Warped Tour seven
- 4:37Speaker 1: years later, while a band I'd never heard of at
- 4:42Speaker 1: that time that the Warped Tour would go on to
- 4:43Speaker 1: be huge later while that band opened up for us
- 4:46Speaker 1: a band named Blink one eighty two. I had all
- 4:49Speaker 1: this shit going on that summer in nineteen ninety. In
- 4:52Speaker 1: my bedroom, I caught up that Sick of It All
- 4:54Speaker 1: album's insert, which was dumb, so I could tape the
- 4:58Speaker 1: band's images up on my wall next to my Jordan
- 5:00Speaker 1: next to the Dallas Cowboys Tony Dorset. Tony was my guy.
- 5:04Speaker 1: The Cowboys were my team. The Pats sucked in nineteen ninety.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I rooted for them on Sundays with my stepfather and
- 5:09Speaker 1: the rest of my family, but I also rooted harder.
- 5:12Speaker 2: For the Cowboys.
- 5:13Speaker 1: We lived in Massachusetts, but the Cowboys seem to be
- 5:15Speaker 1: on TV every week. They were America's team. They still are.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I guess, I don't know. I could make an argument
- 5:21Speaker 1: that the Patriots are now America's team. And have been
- 5:23Speaker 1: for the last twenty something years. But the point is
- 5:26Speaker 1: my bedroom was stuff with all of these things, and
- 5:31Speaker 1: of course cassettes. I can't forget cassettes or cassettes everywhere.
- 5:35Speaker 1: My friends and I we traded cassettes, We lent cassettes
- 5:37Speaker 1: to each other, We made mixes for each other. CDs
- 5:40Speaker 1: weren't yet a thing. Vinyl was hard to come by,
- 5:42Speaker 1: it was hard to maintain. If I had records, they
- 5:45Speaker 1: were like seven inch hardcore or punk rock records, and
- 5:48Speaker 1: I didn't have a lot of them. Again, I had
- 5:50Speaker 1: cassettes or I had a bunch of my mom's old
- 5:54Speaker 1: records and my dad's old records. But vinyl wasn't really
- 5:58Speaker 1: really in play for me back then when I was
- 6:01Speaker 1: in high school, and you know, casetts where like they
- 6:04Speaker 1: were like currency. In my neighborhood. That's all we really
- 6:09Speaker 1: did was listen to music and talk about music. Occasionally
- 6:12Speaker 1: go swimming. We played football, of course, violent games of
- 6:15Speaker 1: football in the neighborhood park near where I grew up
- 6:17Speaker 1: in Clinton, Massachusetts, on Birded Hill. This field, it was
- 6:22Speaker 1: an actual hill. Okay, so we played football on a hill.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Our rule was always at the offensive team. How to
- 6:29Speaker 1: be running uphill. This, of course made the game more
- 6:31Speaker 1: physical and more violent. And you know, when running plays
- 6:35Speaker 1: in an actual neighborhood pick up football game got boring,
- 6:37Speaker 1: we would just play kill the kid.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Let's you know, you throw the ball up in the air.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Whoever catches it and picks it up out of the
- 6:42Speaker 1: scrum or whatever starts to run for their life with
- 6:45Speaker 1: like Walter Payton with their hair on fire, ten other
- 6:48Speaker 1: kids chase them around and gang tackle them. I broke
- 6:51Speaker 1: my arm playing football in that park one summer, not
- 6:55Speaker 1: that summer though, not the summer of nineteen ninety. And
- 6:57Speaker 1: as I sit here this summer and think about the
- 7:02Speaker 1: new Disgracelane episodes that were set to release this fall,
- 7:06Speaker 1: so many of them. Episodes on Metallica Blink one eighty two,
- 7:09Speaker 1: an episode on The Exorcist, an episode on the nineteen
- 7:12Speaker 1: eighty six Mets, an episode on the Unsolved Murder in
- 7:15Speaker 1: the National Football League from back in the day. So
- 7:19Speaker 1: much of the inspiration for the telling of these stories
- 7:23Speaker 1: comes from that teenage bedroom of mine. In a way,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm still the same kid, I'm still obsessed over the
- 7:31Speaker 1: same things. I'm still consumed by all the storytelling connected
- 7:35Speaker 1: to those things, even though I'm far from being a kid.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I was actually sitting down this morning trying to track
- 7:41Speaker 1: my interest as a fifteen year old with my interest
- 7:45Speaker 1: as a grown man now who tells stories for a
- 7:48Speaker 1: living and is about to unleash onto you guys a
- 7:51Speaker 1: whole slew of new stories. And connecting the dots was
- 7:56Speaker 1: very easy. And I guess I'm Proud's the wrong word,
- 8:01Speaker 1: But I guess I guess I'm happy to realize that
- 8:04Speaker 1: and to acknowledge that, and to I have some weird
- 8:07Speaker 1: gratitude for it for some reason. And I wonder what
- 8:11Speaker 1: you guys were listening to back then. I wonder what
- 8:14Speaker 1: posters were on your walls when you were growing up.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I wonder what you did to pass your time as
- 8:20Speaker 1: a kid during your summers, What music you guys listened to,
- 8:24Speaker 1: What movies you guys watched again, what posters you had
- 8:28Speaker 1: on your walls, what sports teams you were rooting for?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Pick a summer, Pick any summer. I picked the summer
- 8:35Speaker 1: of my sophomore going into junior year of high school
- 8:39Speaker 1: because it was particularly formative for me that summer. What
- 8:42Speaker 1: I was reading, like I mentioned Helter skelter, what I
- 8:45Speaker 1: was listening to, what I was obsessed with. But I
- 8:48Speaker 1: want to know what you guys were obsessed with from
- 8:50Speaker 1: a particularly formative year, from your teenage version of you.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And again, what posters were on the wall, what music
- 8:57Speaker 1: was teenage you're listening to? What movies did teach? Need
- 9:00Speaker 1: you watch?
- 9:01Speaker 2: And uh?
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yeah, let me know? Six one seven nine oh six
- 9:05Speaker 1: six six three eight. Do you share this stuff with
- 9:09Speaker 1: your kids? Do you show your kids the movies that
- 9:11Speaker 1: scared the hell out of you when you were a kid.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I really want to show my kids Jaws this summer.
- 9:17Speaker 1: We're headed to We're headed to Edgartown where it was
- 9:20Speaker 1: filmed for a couple of nights, and I'm really excited
- 9:23Speaker 1: about it. And I really want to show my kids Jaws.
- 9:26Speaker 2: But I can't. I just cannot. They're too young.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Let me know, guys via voicemail and text. Also you
- 9:34Speaker 1: can hit me up at disgracelam pod. Let me know
- 9:37Speaker 1: via Instagram, Facebook, TikTok. Again, what were you listening to,
- 9:42Speaker 1: watching and uh vibing on back when you were a
- 9:45Speaker 1: teenager that, uh you want to talk about with me?
- 9:48Speaker 1: Let me know all right, I'll be back in a flash.
- 10:13Speaker 1: So last week we asked the question who is the
- 10:15Speaker 1: greatest female singer of the twentieth century? And Woe Nelly
- 10:18Speaker 1: did we get a lot of incoming on this one.
- 10:21Speaker 1: The four or five textan the greatest singer, not female singer.
- 10:25Speaker 1: The greatest singer of the twenty first century is Amy
- 10:28Speaker 1: Whitehouse four or five.
- 10:30Speaker 2: That is a bold statement. I'm not sure I agree.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I definitely think the Namy white House is probably my
- 10:35Speaker 1: favorite female singer of this recent century so far at least,
- 10:40Speaker 1: but I need to think on whether or not I
- 10:42Speaker 1: think she's the greatest singer of the century.
- 10:45Speaker 2: That's saying. That's saying a lot. I'm not saying.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm not saying she's not, but I'm not saying she
- 10:50Speaker 1: is either. I need to think about it. The eight
- 10:52Speaker 1: one to four Texan best female vocalist of the last
- 10:55Speaker 1: couple decades is a Dell. The second best vocalist is Adele,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and the third best vocalist is Adele eight one four.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Even though I don't agree that one is hard to argue.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm like I said, I'm right or die with Amy Winehouse.
- 11:10Speaker 1: But Adele as a vocalist is a powerhouse. So for me,
- 11:14Speaker 1: Amy Winehouse is way more interesting of a singer, even
- 11:18Speaker 1: though she might not have.
- 11:19Speaker 2: The pipes that Adele has. But I know there's a
- 11:21Speaker 2: lot of love for Adele out there.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I've seen it reflected in more than just this text.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Lots of social interaction on this question as well. So
- 11:30Speaker 1: I'm going to bang out a bunch of those answers
- 11:32Speaker 1: here and save the best female vocalist voicemails for the
- 11:35Speaker 1: upcoming after party. We're doing two after parties this week,
- 11:38Speaker 1: so these are going to kind of string together for you.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Let's go look at some of these social answers to
- 11:44Speaker 1: this question. Hold on, we pull this up here, all right,
- 11:47Speaker 1: Anthony the Barber nine one six rights in. I think
- 11:49Speaker 1: the answer is Amy, Anthony doesn't seem doesn't seem convinced
- 11:53Speaker 1: effing good music?
- 11:54Speaker 2: Rights?
- 11:54Speaker 1: What does it mean to be the greatest singer? And
- 11:58Speaker 1: you know, I think I think it just means exactly that.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I don't want to put too many rules around it.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But you know, which female singer do you respond to
- 12:07Speaker 1: the most from the last twenty years?
- 12:11Speaker 2: Chuck the podcaster, this is a this is Chuck.
- 12:14Speaker 1: One of the one of the hosts from the from
- 12:16Speaker 1: Stuff You Should Know podcast. Chuck writes in Nico Case
- 12:20Speaker 1: has entered the chat with a big heart, and yeah,
- 12:23Speaker 1: that's one Chuck that I that Nico certainly gives Amy
- 12:29Speaker 1: Winehouse a run for the money. For me anyways, and
- 12:34Speaker 1: also that reminds me of Jenny Lewis. I love Jenny Lewis.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I love her voice. I love her as a as
- 12:42Speaker 1: a songwriter, as a personality in music. I think she's
- 12:45Speaker 1: fantastic and definitely definitely a big part of the last
- 12:50Speaker 1: twenty years. Here, Puddolo Grande writes, and Hayley Williams is great,
- 12:55Speaker 1: Chris kleinb Brittany Howard.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Who else we got here? We'll get some more votes
- 12:59Speaker 2: for am me.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Someone wrote in Shaka Kong, Shaka Khan, we're talking last
- 13:05Speaker 1: twenty years, Come on, twenty first century. Someone else wrote
- 13:09Speaker 1: in Whitney Houston. Nope, Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, come on,
- 13:15Speaker 1: come on, we're talking.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Last last I guess, I guess those two. I don't know.
- 13:21Speaker 1: To Christina and Mariah, they're more nineties to me. Julia Underscore,
- 13:26Speaker 1: Day Underscore, Venus writes in Lana meaning Lana del Rey,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and I got to tell you, guys, I finished writing
- 13:34Speaker 1: this Lana Delray episode last week, a couple weeks ago.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I recorded it last week. I recorded it here.
- 13:41Speaker 1: While I'm on on the road, in this creepy old
- 13:45Speaker 1: burn that we're staying in. It's beautiful, but it is creepy.
- 13:48Speaker 1: It's kind of haunted. I'm pretty sure there's an owl
- 13:51Speaker 1: living in part of this bern. I know that there
- 13:54Speaker 1: are a lot of mice living in this bern as well.
- 13:56Speaker 1: In the Lana Delray episode, it's I don't want to
- 14:00Speaker 1: say it's creepy, but it's dark. It's very dark, and
- 14:02Speaker 1: it is a dark tribute to a dark personality. I
- 14:06Speaker 1: know that Lana has this image that sort of exudes
- 14:10Speaker 1: this mid century, mid twentieth century ideal of Americana. But
- 14:16Speaker 1: I hear a lot of darkness in Lana del Rey's music,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and it is definitely reflected in this episode.
- 14:21Speaker 2: And I cannot wait for you guys to hear it.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Puddle of Grunge also writes in Puddle of Grunge is
- 14:26Speaker 1: all over this thing, Fiona Apple. Someone wrote in Ella Fitzgerald,
- 14:30Speaker 1: someone needs to get a frickin clock or calendar because
- 14:33Speaker 1: Ella Fitzgerald was dead way before the twenty first century.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Cloe Blooms rites in me, Clo Booms. I guess I
- 14:43Speaker 1: gotta hear your music. Lady Gaga performed with Metallica, Tony Bennett,
- 14:47Speaker 1: and Queen.
- 14:48Speaker 2: This is miss ash BW reading this.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Lady Gaga sang a Sound of Music medley at the Oscars.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Lady Gaga had a sold out Las Vegas Jazz residency
- 14:57Speaker 1: and releases and fire pop albums. I'm going with Gaga.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Gaga is a good one. Let's not forget the film
- 15:05Speaker 1: A Star Is Born where she killed it. She's incredible, incredible.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Hope Sandovel is a suggestion from Moon Pie I and
- 15:15Speaker 1: Hope Sandoville is the nineties. She is a nineties singer
- 15:19Speaker 1: by my estimation, so I can't go with Hope Sandaval.
- 15:23Speaker 1: We got a lot here Grace Potter, lots lots of
- 15:26Speaker 1: votes for Amy Winehouse, lots Chelsea Wolf love that from
- 15:31Speaker 1: Tracy amioak get a lot more. We get not as
- 15:35Speaker 1: many for Taylor Swift as I would think. We get
- 15:37Speaker 1: a lot of votes for Adele, But guys, who's your
- 15:41Speaker 1: favorite female singer of the twenty first century.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I want to know. Hit me up.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We're not done litigating this. I feel like I feel
- 15:50Speaker 1: like I'm forgetting. I feel like we're all forgetting some
- 15:54Speaker 1: obvious choices here, Okay, And I not only want to
- 15:58Speaker 1: know who you think is the best, I want to
- 15:59Speaker 1: know why. What I'm trying to do here is not
- 16:02Speaker 1: just stoke conversation, but I'm trying to expand my listening horizon. Okay,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I understand that Adele is a great singer, but I
- 16:11Speaker 1: don't have a go to Adell record that I actually
- 16:14Speaker 1: listen to for my own pleasure. So if you think
- 16:16Speaker 1: it's Adele, what record should I be listening to?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Okay?
- 16:19Speaker 1: If you think it's Taylor Swift, you're gonna have a
- 16:23Speaker 1: hard time convincing me of that. But if you just
- 16:25Speaker 1: tell me, like, give me the one album by Taylor
- 16:28Speaker 1: Swift that reinforces your take that she's the greatest female
- 16:32Speaker 1: singer of the twenty first century, this is what I
- 16:35Speaker 1: want from you, guys.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Let me know. Six one seven nine oh six six
- 16:38Speaker 2: six three eight.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Also, you can hit me up at Disgrace Slam Pod
- 16:42Speaker 1: on Instagram, on x on, TikTok and Facebook.
- 16:47Speaker 2: And I will respond there.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'm take a quick break and I'll be back in
- 16:49Speaker 1: a flash. All right, some recent requests from you guys
- 17:07Speaker 1: on episode subjects that you think we should be covering.
- 17:09Speaker 1: We talked about this in the last after party. Again,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'm paying particularly close attention to these requests at the
- 17:15Speaker 1: moment because we are here at Double Elvis contemplating ways
- 17:17Speaker 1: in which you guys can perhaps play a significant role
- 17:21Speaker 1: in choosing the episodes that we cover, either the ones
- 17:24Speaker 1: that are part of our All Access club that we
- 17:26Speaker 1: released through our Patreon and Apple subscriptions to our members,
- 17:29Speaker 1: or perhaps even the episodes that we release widely. I
- 17:32Speaker 1: haven't quite figured this out, so I'm soliciting feedback from
- 17:35Speaker 1: you guys on not only episodes that we should be covering,
- 17:39Speaker 1: but on how we choose these episodes. This is going
- 17:41Speaker 1: to be an ongoing conversation for us over the next
- 17:44Speaker 1: couple weeks. Here here's a smattering of recent suggestions. What
- 17:48Speaker 1: I want to do here, I'm going to read these
- 17:50Speaker 1: out to you guys. I collected a bunch of them
- 17:52Speaker 1: this morning via email, and you know, just listen to them,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and if any are scratching the itch for you, hit
- 18:00Speaker 1: me up and let me know, like sort of like
- 18:03Speaker 1: second it.
- 18:03Speaker 2: You know what I mean, reinforce it.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Okay, most of these are just from emails that were
- 18:07Speaker 1: sent to disgrace lampod at gmail dot com. I'm not
- 18:09Speaker 1: going to read these full emails because we'll be here
- 18:11Speaker 1: all day. But that said, know that there are some
- 18:14Speaker 1: pretty articulate and impassion takes on why we should we
- 18:17Speaker 1: should cover these artists are Some of these artists are obscure.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Some are, of course big names. That doesn't really matter.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I always kind of do a good a good mix.
- 18:26Speaker 1: I try to do a good melding of big names
- 18:28Speaker 1: and perhaps some more niche names. It doesn't matter to
- 18:31Speaker 1: me as long as the story is compelling. And of
- 18:34Speaker 1: course we're not going to be cracking into any of
- 18:36Speaker 1: this research without having a strong indication beforehand that there
- 18:40Speaker 1: is a very compelling story there. So anyway, some of
- 18:43Speaker 1: these are even names we've we've covered already, which just
- 18:46Speaker 1: goes to the ongoing plate of Disgraceland, which is we
- 18:49Speaker 1: have this massive archive, so big in fact, that lots
- 18:52Speaker 1: of new listeners aren't aware of the episodes we've covered.
- 18:56Speaker 1: So before I listen these, however, I want you guys
- 18:58Speaker 1: again to listen in any of the subjects strike a
- 19:01Speaker 1: chord with you, please go ahead, reach out.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Let me know.
- 19:03Speaker 1: The more consensus we can get on these subjects, the better,
- 19:06Speaker 1: the happier y'all gonna be six one seven nine six
- 19:09Speaker 1: six six three eight to text me your subjects, leave.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Me a voicemail. Uh and uh.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Also you can hit me up at this grace Lam
- 19:15Speaker 1: pod on the socials. Okay, So in no particular order,
- 19:17Speaker 1: here goes Al Jurgenson of Ministry, Woody Allen, Michael, Jordan Beck,
- 19:24Speaker 1: the Gitts, Motorhead, Megadeth, Link, Ray big L, Mark Lanigan,
- 19:30Speaker 1: Quentin Tarantino, Mark Wahlberg, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Anthrax, doctor John Howard, Hughes,
- 19:36Speaker 1: Millie Vanilli, Princess Diana, John Mayer. I'm gonna stop here.
- 19:40Speaker 1: There's a lot. I could just keep reading names all day.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back here and just give you some
- 19:46Speaker 1: thoughts here. Let me know what you guys think as well.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Al Jurgenson of Ministry, I know there's some truly psychotic
- 19:52Speaker 1: stuff there, but I just don't know how compelling of
- 19:55Speaker 1: a guy Al is. I need to look into that
- 19:57Speaker 1: more Woody Allen one thousand percent will be doing a
- 20:00Speaker 1: Woody Allen episode, probably sooner than later.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Michael Jordan.
- 20:04Speaker 1: We've actually already written a Michael Jordan episode, but I
- 20:06Speaker 1: kind of I didn't write it, and I kind of
- 20:08Speaker 1: want to. I have such love for MJ I think
- 20:11Speaker 1: I want to write a Jordan episode myself. So we
- 20:15Speaker 1: will definitely do a Michael Jordan episode, and it'll probably
- 20:17Speaker 1: be again sooner than later. Just like Woody Allen, Beck
- 20:22Speaker 1: not going to touch that one. The Gets The Gets Gosh.
- 20:27Speaker 1: This has been being recommended since the first days of
- 20:30Speaker 1: the podcast, and I got to say, I'm kind of
- 20:32Speaker 1: afraid of this episode. It's a really, really tough story
- 20:38Speaker 1: and I don't know that it can be covered in
- 20:40Speaker 1: one episode or even in two. And I've never really
- 20:44Speaker 1: fully been able to make up my mind on what
- 20:45Speaker 1: I want to do with this subject matter. So if
- 20:47Speaker 1: you guys have any ideas on the Gets, let me
- 20:49Speaker 1: know Motorhead. Motorhead is done and that comes out and
- 20:53Speaker 1: are all Access feed this Thursday, July twenty fifth, so
- 20:56Speaker 1: all Access members be on the lookout for that episode.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Everybody's got a crazy.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Lem me story, including me, So if you want to
- 21:03Speaker 1: hear that, and you're not a member, become one today.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Link Ray, what's the angle, what's the crime? What's the
- 21:12Speaker 1: dark story? With Link Ray? Forgive my ignorance, big L
- 21:16Speaker 1: for sure, big L. This is another one that has
- 21:19Speaker 1: been recommended from the early days of the podcast, and
- 21:23Speaker 1: I think it's high time we get into this story.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Mark Lanagan, you know I'm into it. Some days I'm
- 21:29Speaker 1: more motivated than others. Quentin Tarantino, I'm not sure there's
- 21:32Speaker 1: a story there. Mark Wahlberg, I'm not very interested in
- 21:34Speaker 1: that story. Stevie ray Vaughan. I would love to depict
- 21:38Speaker 1: a helicopter crash, so perhaps anthrax. I don't know why
- 21:42Speaker 1: anthrax is being suggested. Doctor John. I believe Doctor John
- 21:46Speaker 1: got shot in a nightclub while he was playing. I
- 21:50Speaker 1: think that's the story there. Howard Hughes. That could be
- 21:52Speaker 1: an ongoing podcast, a daily podcast. There's so much with
- 21:56Speaker 1: Howard Hughes. I don't know what the angle is there,
- 21:58Speaker 1: but it would be fun to crack. Be good to
- 22:00Speaker 1: find a cool point of view into Howard Hughes.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Uh.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Millie Vanilli, I have a really funny idea for a
- 22:08Speaker 1: million Vanilli episode. I'm not gonna burn it here though,
- 22:10Speaker 1: Princess Diana. Now this, now we're talking John Mayer. John
- 22:15Speaker 1: Mayer is a fascinating guy for me. I really like
- 22:18Speaker 1: that last John Mayra album, by the way, the sort
- 22:20Speaker 1: of like the Divorce Rock one. Uh No, he's a
- 22:26Speaker 1: fascinating guy for me. I don't know what the episode
- 22:28Speaker 1: would be. I get asked to do a John Mayer episode,
- 22:31Speaker 1: I would say, like, you know, once a month, I
- 22:34Speaker 1: should probably look into this.
- 22:36Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna stop right here. Okay.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Also, I also got a strange request to write a
- 22:41Speaker 1: romance novel and then voice the audiobook.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I thought that was cute, but that ain't happening.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So so anyways, let me know of all the ones
- 22:50Speaker 1: I just mentioned, hit me up. Let me know which
- 22:54Speaker 1: of those, if any really kind of stoke your gears
- 22:57Speaker 1: get you going, And if you want to hit me
- 23:01Speaker 1: with some other subjects, now is the time and I'm
- 23:05Speaker 1: gonna start. I think putting some organization around how to
- 23:08Speaker 1: better solicit these requests from you guys that is coming.
- 23:12Speaker 1: If you have any input into how I could be
- 23:16Speaker 1: aggregating this info and organizing it, let me know as well.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Six month seven nine oh six six six three eight
- 23:21Speaker 1: at disgracelanm pod on the Socials. Okay, this episode is
