- 0:09Speaker 1: How are you?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Good morning? I'm doing pretty very good today, Thank you?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hellout you. It's yeah, so so so so, which is
- 0:18Speaker 1: a good day for me?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Okay, I'll take it.
- 0:21Speaker 1: What's something that could make his day better? Elena? What
- 0:24Speaker 1: could he do to make his day better?
- 0:27Speaker 2: You know what? I have the cure. It's called dance.
- 0:31Speaker 1: No, I listen, I don't, I can't dance. Don't ask me.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I know that this is your favorite topic, so I've
- 0:39Speaker 2: been really excited to discuss it with you.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Let's let's discuss dance.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yes, dance is a really great form of physical activity,
- 0:49Speaker 2: and in addition to our own physical fitness, it also
- 0:53Speaker 2: helps support our brain, which is pretty rad.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I think, well, what kind of dance are we talking
- 1:00Speaker 1: about here? Any kind?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Honestly, any kind? And there's there's some additional benefit to
- 1:07Speaker 2: doing synchronized dancing with a group, But you don't have
- 1:12Speaker 2: to do that if that's not your jam.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I mean dancing bootscoot boogie sort of stuff.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that absolutely works.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I used to enjoy when when I was a kid
- 1:23Speaker 1: in grade school, they made us do square dancing. Did
- 1:27Speaker 1: they do that when you were.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, we had to do I did that too, Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And it was actually kind of fun. I remember enjoying it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: They didn't have a caller, but they'd had a record
- 1:35Speaker 1: that they would put on. It was a square dance caller,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and so the teacher would teach us to do all
- 1:40Speaker 1: the different dope, side dough and all of that stuff,
- 1:43Speaker 1: and it made you feel good. Well, this is the
- 1:45Speaker 1: latest point. It was kind of fun exactly. Yeah, thank you,
- 1:50Speaker 1: Except nobody ever wanted a square dance with me was
- 1:53Speaker 1: always the last one.
- 1:56Speaker 3: See, we were assigned. We weren't picked, we were assigned.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Luckily I got Jana McAllister.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Wow, well lucky you. Yeah. So uh, let's move on
- 2:06Speaker 1: with Yeah, how do you find yourself doing this?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Well, you can go to your local community center. We'll
- 2:14Speaker 2: probably have some sort of dance classes. Also, most fitness
- 2:19Speaker 2: centers have dance fitness.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Style classes and that sort of thing.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Exactly. Yeah. You can also just turn on some music
- 2:29Speaker 2: in your home and shake your booty in your living
- 2:31Speaker 2: room and that works too. So there's there's not really
- 2:34Speaker 2: wrong or right ways necessarily to do.
- 2:37Speaker 1: This, honey, please bring me my booty. I need to
- 2:42Speaker 1: shake it. It's uh, you know, it's a it's sus
- 2:48Speaker 1: sortable in a certain ways. It's a lost art though,
- 2:50Speaker 1: isn't it. It's there used to be Yes Arthur and
- 2:53Speaker 1: Arthur Murray dance studios all over the country where you
- 2:57Speaker 1: people would go and they would teach you to dance dance.
- 3:00Speaker 4: But now you can do it, like Elena was saying,
- 3:02Speaker 4: at your local gym. There's classes and stuff or zoom,
- 3:05Speaker 4: but even something like that.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Absolutely, And dance has, like I said, so many great
- 3:12Speaker 2: physical benefits for us. It helps with our our cardiovascular fitness.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It helps us get strong and build balance. And additionally,
- 3:19Speaker 2: it has some really great mental health benefits such as
- 3:23Speaker 2: improving our self esteem, which is I think a really
- 3:25Speaker 2: cool side effect.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Dance improves your self esteem. How does it do Yeah?
- 3:31Speaker 1: How does it do that?
- 3:32Speaker 2: It helps us when we learn new things. It helps
- 3:35Speaker 2: us to increase our sense of self mastery, which is
- 3:39Speaker 2: one of the factors in self esteem. We're proving to ourselves, Oh,
- 3:43Speaker 2: I can do hard or different or new things. So
- 3:46Speaker 2: it helps us to build up that confidence.
- 3:49Speaker 1: If I could, if I could only learn to cha cha.
- 3:52Speaker 4: I've actually thought it'd be fun to take a dance
- 3:54Speaker 4: class with my husband like it.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Know, Gina, I think it would be fun if I
- 4:00Speaker 1: could take a dance class with.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Your Sure, we could take turns.
- 4:03Speaker 3: The last time that I danced till I was sweaty
- 4:06Speaker 3: was we saw a real big fish with the boys,
- 4:10Speaker 3: and I was dancing a lot and sweaty and.
- 4:14Speaker 4: It felt good.
- 4:15Speaker 3: And now I'll just occasionally throw on some ska music
- 4:18Speaker 3: at home if Sue's not around, and just kind of
- 4:22Speaker 3: dance a little bit, you know.
- 4:25Speaker 1: And it says it's good for to protect your brain.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It says here, Yes, yeah, this helps us to protect
- 4:31Speaker 2: our brain, especially as we're aging, so learning new skills
- 4:34Speaker 2: can help to ensure it keeps our memory active. Dance
- 4:39Speaker 2: sequences also sometimes have a little bit of improvisation in them,
- 4:43Speaker 2: so that's another skill that really keeps our brain sharp
- 4:47Speaker 2: and helps us to just yeah, it helps us to
- 4:49Speaker 2: age a little bit better.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Well, I guess then just seek out. You should probably
- 4:55Speaker 1: seek out again at your local gym or community center opportunit. Yeah, yeah, yes,
- 5:03Speaker 1: I be creative. I guess I'm sure you'll find places
- 5:06Speaker 1: to do it.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Absolutely, dance is everywhere, even at your friend's wedding or
- 5:11Speaker 2: a concert you go to. You can just cut it loose.
- 5:15Speaker 1: All right. Thank you, Elena, thank you. I'm gonna next
- 5:20Speaker 1: time I get an opportunity, I'll try to as they say,
- 5:23Speaker 1: cut a rug.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yes, I love that, all right?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Where will we find out more?
