- 1:49Speaker 1: to that's it the show. Let me wrote the strategy
- 1:52Speaker 1: for the show. We said, it's a.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Show, yeah, that's radio yeah yeah, and were vexed us
- 1:59Speaker 2: by Marcus is here for it was audio only. We
- 2:01Speaker 2: would be just in a corner somewhere with an iPhone. Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Anybody can never forgetting.
- 2:06Speaker 1: We were looking at shows in the space and there
- 2:08Speaker 1: was this one show that had like one hundred and
- 2:11Speaker 1: fifty shows. She was one hundred and fifty shows in
- 2:15Speaker 1: and on the first episode it was like your microphone's
- 2:19Speaker 1: not working. It's really low and you need to turn
- 2:22Speaker 1: your mic or get a new microphone up. Yeah, And
- 2:25Speaker 1: it was consistently through like the one hundred and fifty
- 2:29Speaker 1: shows people. Yeah, I can't hear you on your microphone.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I mean that's kind of like we were never looked
- 2:32Speaker 1: at the concept.
- 2:33Speaker 2: We were for the first couple episodes, but we like
- 2:35Speaker 2: trying to get a little bit better each time. I
- 2:38Speaker 2: was like, wow, just after that was like wead the comments. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 2: maybe she like just vows not to She's like, I'm
- 2:45Speaker 2: just gonna stay out of the comversation, all right.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Anyway, Hey, listen, you know the drill send us. We
- 2:51Speaker 1: dive into some jaw dropping story. Some of these things
- 2:54Speaker 1: are really funny, some not so much. And there's actually
- 2:58Speaker 1: some good redemption stories too. So if you've got a
- 3:00Speaker 1: story and it's about it's about hiring, and it's the
- 3:04Speaker 1: type of story you'd tell if you're sitting around with
- 3:06Speaker 1: a bunch of friends after ours, joking about what it's
- 3:09Speaker 1: like the tough life for being a recruiter and talent
- 3:13Speaker 1: acquisition and melting team tiring manager, building teams. Yeah, for sure,
- 3:17Speaker 1: share it with us.
- 3:17Speaker 2: We love to hear it.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And don't forget, we're running that ten thousand dollars contest.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So if you submit it to us at the Badhire
- 3:22Speaker 1: Dot com and you've got the best story of the year,
- 3:26Speaker 1: You're win ten thousand dollars. We'll select it, We'll select
- 3:28Speaker 1: the best ones, send it out for ten thousand bucks.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And then finally, what do we got visitors?
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Morgan Day and I and so.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah, so submit us and get the and win ten
- 3:41Speaker 1: thousand dollars. And then also, you know, we're reaching out
- 3:45Speaker 1: to a lot of folks trying to get as many
- 3:46Speaker 1: stories told as we can. We have these segments that
- 3:49Speaker 1: we do, which is really great. Share a couple today,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but it's where you know, you don't have to come
- 3:55Speaker 1: on the show and try to organize that whole thing.
- 3:58Speaker 2: It's not love. It's not love.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I have a lot of pressure. Yeah, it's well, we'll
- 4:03Speaker 1: connect you with uh Nathan or another producer and then
- 4:07Speaker 1: they will just fire up, you know, almost like a
- 4:11Speaker 1: zoom meeting or teams meeting with better technology than that,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and and uh chat with these a little bit and
- 4:17Speaker 1: then you can tell your story and share and uh people.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You know, people enjoy it. They do a good job
- 4:24Speaker 1: telling their stories. And you know, we were thinking of other day,
- 4:28Speaker 1: it'd be fun to have one where everyone's all blurred
- 4:30Speaker 1: out the whole time you wou change their voice.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that'd be fair. Read that stories we have randall
- 4:36Speaker 2: do that probably would?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Yeah, like posture to do my face out? I was like, yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 3: we're just put a black box over your face the
- 4:44Speaker 3: question mark.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Can I me raand will probably have some stories you
- 4:46Speaker 2: could tell like that. Oh you should the story in
- 4:49Speaker 2: southern accent. That'll be great anyway, So that'd be awesome.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But uh, yeah, do that. We'd love for you to submit,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and then we'd love for you to do a segment
- 4:57Speaker 1: on the show.
- 4:57Speaker 3: So do it.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, listen, so.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Jump right in here. This is a story says I
- 5:03Speaker 1: manage a pizza place. It's a pretty standard operation. You
- 5:08Speaker 1: take your deliveries and nothing's going out. You help around
- 5:11Speaker 1: the kitchen. You know that means dishes, wiping things down.
- 5:16Speaker 1: You know, that's just how it works. We hired a
- 5:18Speaker 1: new delivery drawer. On his first day, he goes out
- 5:21Speaker 1: on his very first rush the first day, flame mouthfast.
- 5:25Speaker 1: He then comes back and everything seems fun. There's no
- 5:29Speaker 1: deliveries waiting, so I walk over and say, hey, while slow,
- 5:34Speaker 1: we do dishes and help clean up in between runs. Okay,
- 5:38Speaker 1: he looks at me and says completely straight face, Hey,
- 5:42Speaker 1: that's a woman's work. I don't do women's work.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yikes. Immediately, No, oh my josh, here we found a
- 5:49Speaker 2: couple of those stories too.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Immediately, No, your girl, man, you can wash your dishes.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Emma space, just straight light.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Say that to me.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I retired him. Right then, let's get on the spot.
- 6:10Speaker 1: That conversation, the one I just described, that was the
- 6:14Speaker 1: whole interaction, start to finish, nothing before it, nothing after it.
- 6:18Speaker 1: It's women's work. Get out, you're do women's work.
- 6:22Speaker 3: You're done, You're fired.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 6:26Speaker 1: He had been employed for us for a duration of
- 6:29Speaker 1: one pizza delivery.
- 6:30Speaker 2: One pizza.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:32Speaker 1: People always ask what I said after that. Honestly, not much.
- 6:35Speaker 1: What else was there to say? One delivery? That was
- 6:38Speaker 1: his whole pizza career.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Well put it on his resume, how many pizzas delivered? One?
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a That was a I was You
- 6:47Speaker 1: can't actually say I delivered pizzas.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah, delivered. I delivered pizza.
- 6:51Speaker 3: He did not deliver the pizza.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 6:54Speaker 3: He did not deliver the pizza.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Emma did not like that.
- 6:58Speaker 3: That was not good.
- 6:59Speaker 2: That was a So that's rough. That was one of
- 7:02Speaker 2: our first early stories where like a guy started some
- 7:05Speaker 2: computer coding job and like a supervisor was a woman
- 7:09Speaker 2: and he was like no to that. Yeah, it's sick, insane,
- 7:13Speaker 2: like that level of misogy. You just like slipped through
- 7:17Speaker 2: the interview process. I guess before we dive.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Back into the chaos on the bad hire, this episode
- 7:22Speaker 4: is brought to you by b Checks. Hiring shouldn't feel

- 7:55Speaker 4: your sanity. Go to bchecks dot io. That's BC eight
- 8:00Speaker 4: ex dot io.
- 8:03Speaker 2: All right, here we go.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I think we got Jeremy, Yeah, you know the he
- 8:08Speaker 1: met with you, Denny, Yeah, he.
- 8:10Speaker 2: On the last episode two. We got a couple close
- 8:12Speaker 2: with them. So this is is the second story.
- 8:14Speaker 1: All right, let's hear it.
- 8:15Speaker 5: I tell clients that we work with all the time,
- 8:17Speaker 5: you know, about how the importance of conducting background checks
- 8:20Speaker 5: and really verifying all the information. You know, I came
- 8:23Speaker 5: from old school kind of teaching that anything that a
- 8:26Speaker 5: candidate put on an application or on their resume, we
- 8:29Speaker 5: need to vet because it's the only thing we know
- 8:32Speaker 5: to be able to see are they telling the truth
- 8:34Speaker 5: to us?
- 8:35Speaker 6: Right?
- 8:35Speaker 5: Even if there were you know, a degree wasn't required
- 8:39Speaker 5: for a job, but yet they had a degree. We
- 8:42Speaker 5: should verify that to make sure that it's actually true,
- 8:45Speaker 5: because they could be thinking that we're not going to
- 8:47Speaker 5: verify and hiding something or trying to path off that
- 8:50Speaker 5: they have it. So we should verify everything they tell
- 8:53Speaker 5: us because that just really builds up their credibility and
- 8:56Speaker 5: our trust and how we determine if they're a good
- 8:58Speaker 5: fit for the organization, been a good hire.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah, So I think that's him kind of bouncing off
- 9:04Speaker 2: of last story pretty much. So, like last episode, Jeremy
- 9:07Speaker 2: told a story where essentially he's interviewing somebody and then
- 9:12Speaker 2: they're like, oh, yeah, here's my college experience, and then
- 9:16Speaker 2: they like just pretty much made up the whole thing,
- 9:18Speaker 2: and then he called the school and realized that they
- 9:19Speaker 2: lied about the whole thing. So that's kind of saying, oh, yeah,
- 9:22Speaker 2: that's the guy who Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Him just kind of tightly did the whole fake transcript this,
- 9:26Speaker 1: And so I think I kind of had a fansy
- 9:27Speaker 1: call and say, you know, hey, I have someone from
- 9:29Speaker 1: the college call tell you, which I thought was funny.
- 9:32Speaker 2: So I think it was like a common thing that
- 9:33Speaker 2: we run into allow for people to make up stuff,
- 9:36Speaker 2: whether he's experience or education. We have won social clip
- 9:39Speaker 2: we recorded with Ken where like like the CEO of
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yahoo years ago made up the fact that he had
- 9:45Speaker 2: a certain three h There was.
- 9:46Speaker 1: A big executive here had.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Same exactly.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I don't want to say his name because I won't
- 9:52Speaker 1: get a rib it. It was on readit somewhere he
- 9:54Speaker 1: was an executive here, same exact thing. Leaden said he
- 9:57Speaker 1: had a master's degree, didn't you know, and the raalities
- 10:00Speaker 1: he wouldn't have gotten the path he did had he not,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you know, because he didn't he didn't he didn't do it.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And then probably you know, because he said it was
- 10:08Speaker 1: from a prestigeou school. That happens all the time. Well,
- 10:11Speaker 1: it's crazy.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It's like he's saying, it's crazy that people just don't
- 10:14Speaker 2: think that they're going to follow up on stuff, you
- 10:16Speaker 2: to put whatever on your resume.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, he had something interesting. His point was
- 10:20Speaker 1: even if they it wasn't required. And I had a client,
- 10:23Speaker 1: a very large client, and this became a contention between
- 10:26Speaker 1: my business and theirs, and you know, we, uh, the
- 10:35Speaker 1: recruiters began to if if someone I'm making sure I
- 10:42Speaker 1: tell a story around for anybody in the bus. But
- 10:44Speaker 1: you know, there was certainly Yeah, the recruiters were had
- 10:47Speaker 1: a lot of pressure to place and they would verify
- 10:53Speaker 1: like an education, right and they say they had a
- 10:56Speaker 1: degree and then find out we'd say, well they don't.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And then they would go, well it's okay, just take
- 11:03Speaker 1: it off because it's not required for the role. And
- 11:06Speaker 1: I would be like, but they lied to you, you know,
- 11:11Speaker 1: I mean they just straight lied to you. They made
- 11:14Speaker 1: they didn't just like yeah, you know, like slip out
- 11:19Speaker 1: while they were talking. Yeah, no, when I you know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: instead of saying I intended to, they say I graduated.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I mean they put it on a resume, yeah right,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and I don't know. And and it became a regular
- 11:29Speaker 1: thing that if they if we you know, we were
- 11:31Speaker 1: doing a lot of verification work that if they call
- 11:33Speaker 1: people lying, they would figure out what they could do
- 11:36Speaker 1: to like just remove that search track like it didn't happen,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you know, and so they could get them placed. Because
- 11:44Speaker 1: of the amount of sheer pressure they were under to place.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You know, it became an issue for us because we
- 11:52Speaker 1: were like, sooner or later this is gonna someone's gonna
- 11:55Speaker 1: this is gonna come up, and everyone's gonna look at
- 11:58Speaker 1: the background check company.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, like yeah, you guys miss this, We're that to you. Yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 2: And maybe maybe things have changed over the last twenty
- 12:07Speaker 2: thirty forty years where like maybe you used to be
- 12:09Speaker 2: able to just throw whatever on a resume and nobody
- 12:12Speaker 2: would know any better. But now it's like there's so
- 12:15Speaker 2: much technology with the background checks and you can just
- 12:17Speaker 2: you can find everything. And so I'm always looking for
- 12:20Speaker 2: different like social media clips for us to react to
- 12:23Speaker 2: for our content, and a lot of times I'll find
- 12:25Speaker 2: tiktoks where there's recruiters and their best piece of advice
- 12:28Speaker 2: to people who are looking for job is like, stop
- 12:31Speaker 2: lying on your resume. It's not going to work. Like
- 12:33Speaker 2: people keep trying it, even in twenty twenty six and
- 12:36Speaker 2: always get a fine. You see the.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Reddit themes on that where people are saying, lie, lie, lie, lie,
- 12:40Speaker 1: they don't check. I would say that the overwhelming majority
- 12:44Speaker 1: do or it eventually catches you. It doesn't always catch you. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:48Speaker 1: put the man. Imagine the amount of time and energy
- 12:51Speaker 1: you get.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Who knows somewhere like yeah, waving the guy at at Yahoo.
- 12:58Speaker 2: It's on Reddit's public information, like I guess, see, got
- 13:01Speaker 2: through somewhere and then eventually got found.
- 13:03Speaker 3: You know about it for years and then it finally
- 13:07Speaker 3: comes always comes out.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I always always believe in just uh, I'm
- 13:13Speaker 1: youe believer in telling the truth, right, you know, give
- 13:15Speaker 1: your context, give your story. Don't try to lie your
- 13:19Speaker 1: way into a job. Yeah, learn how to talk about
- 13:21Speaker 1: your journey and learn to you know, learned to skills.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Go get a job.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, how to talk to people. Yeah, all right,
- 13:31Speaker 2: who's up?
- 13:32Speaker 1: What's next? All right?
- 13:33Speaker 2: I got two stories. These are both not submitted to us.
- 13:38Speaker 2: There's like on reddit. So I got two of them.
- 13:40Speaker 2: So here's the first one. Our fire department brought on
- 13:43Speaker 2: a new hire. Here's a young guy who just great
- 13:45Speaker 2: graduated from fire school, which I guess I don't know
- 13:48Speaker 2: if I knew that fire school is a thing. And
- 13:50Speaker 2: the night before it is fire school.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know, you have to take your class.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I don't know what it's called fire school.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Fire school. She knows that because she lives in a
- 13:58Speaker 1: small town.
- 14:00Speaker 3: To your fire school.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Maybe I've just never heard of being called fire school.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Right from a small town.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You have a volunteer fire department.
- 14:09Speaker 2: They went to fire school.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I mean they go to fire school.
- 14:13Speaker 3: So there's a fire school. It's not specifically called higher school,
- 14:18Speaker 3: like you know, you.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Have to who do you.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Know somebody because you know this information from high school? Yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 1: winch Yeah, do you know what it's called, like officially.
- 14:28Speaker 7: Not officially school? Would imagine it's not just fire schools.
- 14:34Speaker 7: It's not like it's police school. Fire school could be
- 14:36Speaker 7: how to start a fire. I think that's that's the
- 14:38Speaker 7: ideal school.
- 14:39Speaker 2: At the least. That's different. Yeah, because there's like police school,
- 14:42Speaker 2: but that's what like pleae academy, it's a fire academy.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Maybe what academy?
- 14:46Speaker 2: All right? Anyways, our fire department they ran who hired
- 14:50Speaker 2: the young guy just graduated from the fire academy. Uh
- 14:53Speaker 2: And the night before his first official day, the crew
- 14:56Speaker 2: takes him out to celebrate there's a graduation, is a
- 14:59Speaker 2: new jo, this whole thing that they're celebrating. So they drink,
- 15:03Speaker 2: and they drink a lot. On his first official day.
- 15:05Speaker 2: The next morning, he shows up an hour late and
- 15:08Speaker 2: he's still drunk. It's not a good way to start. Now,
- 15:11Speaker 2: you might think that that's the bad part. But that day,
- 15:13Speaker 2: that specific day, he wasn't just showing up to the
- 15:16Speaker 2: fire department. He was actually scheduled to work alongside the
- 15:19Speaker 2: police department that day. So he showed up drunk on
- 15:21Speaker 2: his first day to his coworking job with the police,
- 15:25Speaker 2: and he was fired. And also that morning side note,
- 15:28Speaker 2: he got arrested for a dui in his way to work.
- 15:31Speaker 2: So in the span of one morning, he lost three Yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 2: I guess so, yeah, it was all rough. So wait,
- 15:38Speaker 2: that makes no sense. You don't get arrested on the
- 15:40Speaker 2: way to get a d ui. Hey, I got my dui.
- 15:43Speaker 1: They sent me on my way sev.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Me to work. I don't know what you're gonna you're
- 15:46Speaker 2: gonna spin his story. There's a dui in there. I
- 15:50Speaker 2: don't know what happened. And this maybe in the span
- 15:54Speaker 2: of one morning he lost the job. He's just been
- 15:56Speaker 2: hired for and pick up a criminal record. Maybe I
- 15:58Speaker 2: don't know where to the UI came him in and there.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I know this, When someone's drunk, you don't set them home. Yeah,
- 16:07Speaker 2: all right, here's your take it here, take me to
- 16:09Speaker 2: your car and get out of your way your fire.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Maybe it was still drunk, but it was like, I'll
- 16:13Speaker 2: go get coffee for everybody, and that's when we got
- 16:15Speaker 2: the DUI.
- 16:15Speaker 8: I'm kind of baffled of like, how many stories we've
- 16:18Speaker 8: read of people that show up drunk on their first day? Yep,
- 16:22Speaker 8: that's very crazy.
- 16:23Speaker 2: People are struggling problem. Yes, I know that, especially when.
- 16:29Speaker 3: You're about it until you read like ten stories, do
- 16:33Speaker 3: you just.
- 16:33Speaker 1: See it over and over again?
- 16:34Speaker 2: You're like, well, that's like the whole thing with old podcasts,
- 16:37Speaker 2: like how they be like this many bat our stories.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I can't do this. I got I got it, Like
- 16:41Speaker 1: as horrible as it is, I can I go.
- 16:43Speaker 2: In like this. Yeah, he's like, no, that's my first day.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I got I got powered finding buddies take him that
- 16:48Speaker 1: that's did he go with them to go drinking?
- 16:51Speaker 3: Is that what it was?
- 16:51Speaker 1: The guys from the class one.
- 16:52Speaker 2: That sounded like I think he just maybe said it
- 16:54Speaker 2: was a graduation. Maybe went home and he's kept on drinking.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah all night. He's like maybe he.
- 17:00Speaker 1: You drink. You know, we more than everybody else did I.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Don't all bad? So I didn't it did not work out?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, so all right, what's its?
- 17:07Speaker 9: Sorry, we're it's called to join the fire It's called
- 17:11Speaker 9: a fire department, a high school cadet program or junior
- 17:15Speaker 9: firefighter program for the fire.
- 17:17Speaker 2: See. This is why we have a producer.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Well, I mean I think that's yeah, that's why that's
- 17:20Speaker 1: one path in. I think Charlotte like for sure has
- 17:23Speaker 1: a firefighting academy you go to. I know, guys have
- 17:25Speaker 1: got to the firefighter. Again, it's hard work for to
- 17:26Speaker 1: become a fire butting farm.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it can't. Bro.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I can't imagine putting all that work in, Yeah, to
- 17:31Speaker 1: do that and then blowing it up on the first
- 17:33Speaker 1: as you can imagine.
- 17:34Speaker 2: In Virginia, I'm new, grown up, maybe one firefighter, and
- 17:37Speaker 2: moved to California and like every other guy you meet
- 17:40Speaker 2: is a firefighter because there's so many wild fires out there.
- 17:42Speaker 2: So like every every due between the age of another people,
- 17:46Speaker 2: like almost every other guy is like between twenty and
- 17:48Speaker 2: thirty five is a firefighter because they just need somebody
- 17:51Speaker 2: out there. Wow. So in this seasonal too, because it's
- 17:54Speaker 2: like in the dry season, it's like all blows up. Yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 2: all right. Second story, we this kid fresh out of
- 18:01Speaker 2: culinary school and he was all fired up. He's ready
- 18:04Speaker 2: to go. He walks in on day one. Another day
- 18:07Speaker 2: one story, he launches into a full assessment of the
- 18:11Speaker 2: whole operation. He's talking to people. He's preaching at them
- 18:13Speaker 2: about how their systems are inefficient, their processes are outdated.
- 18:18Speaker 2: That I think this is another one. I don't know
- 18:20Speaker 2: because I'm this does sound familiar, and how leadership does
- 18:23Speaker 2: not understand how the kitchen is supposed to run. I
- 18:24Speaker 2: think the other one who ran we told that was
- 18:26Speaker 2: the kitch. It wasn't a kitchen, but it was the same,
- 18:30Speaker 2: the same bravado. Yeah, he'd apparently seen better set upset
- 18:35Speaker 2: at places with a lot less going on. So I listened.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I let it go. It's a new guy, energy whatever.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Later that afternoon, I catched him vaping in the prep area,
- 18:43Speaker 2: which is not allowed. I pull him aside. I told
- 18:45Speaker 2: him that's not going to work here. He says, okay, sorry,
- 18:48Speaker 2: that's just on day one he's like, hey, listen, in
- 18:50Speaker 2: top nunch organizations, I was allowed to va vape in there.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I guess into the match potatoes. On day two, he
- 18:57Speaker 2: comes in. He finds me and he says, hey, can
- 18:59Speaker 2: I step out for about thirty minutes? I say for what?
- 19:02Speaker 2: And he says, and these are his exact words as
- 19:05Speaker 2: told to me. There's no way this is real. He says,
- 19:08Speaker 2: I need to go make a drug deal.
- 19:14Speaker 10: So you know, we did have the one story where
- 19:16Speaker 10: the guys admitted to selling drugs to get people's skills.
- 19:22Speaker 10: Oh yeah, that was my negotiators in story selling them
- 19:25Speaker 10: for I was selling them for a friend, and it
- 19:28Speaker 10: helped me because it built people's skills.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Yeah, build my confidence. Yeah, so I got good at it. Actually,
- 19:32Speaker 2: would you like some softer After he says I need
- 19:35Speaker 2: to go make a drug deal, I just looked at him.
- 19:37Speaker 2: It's one of those moments where like that, I just
- 19:38Speaker 2: hear that. I guess he said, yeah, I just need
- 19:40Speaker 2: to run out real quick. He'll just take a few minutes,
- 19:42Speaker 2: like he was about to go grab lunch, like it
- 19:44Speaker 2: was totally normal thing. And so he did not return
- 19:46Speaker 2: from that drug deal. I just told him to never
- 19:47Speaker 2: come come back pretty much.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I don't know if I believe that one.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I don't know. It started off kind of believable.
- 19:54Speaker 3: It did be read like that before, but I don't know. Yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 3: I mean the first half vegetables first half.
- 20:02Speaker 2: But then we got a million and I was like, nah,
- 20:04Speaker 2: let we step out for this drug dealer. Real fast
- 20:05Speaker 2: is okay.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I have no doubt that the bravado of somebody trying
- 20:10Speaker 1: to be you know, yes, and you know, maybe he
- 20:13Speaker 1: thought that was their strying to album.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they got I gotta run this thing.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I gotta run do this thing.
- 20:20Speaker 2: It got a real bad, real fast. So it was
- 20:23Speaker 2: on Reddit, so it had to be real, so right right,
- 20:30Speaker 2: all right, Emma, oh you got a story saved the
- 20:34Speaker 2: day here, please save please please something Episode thirty one.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I'm with a good story from going down in flame
- 20:41Speaker 2: and on a clip.
- 20:42Speaker 11: But first I read this story, I was going real
- 20:44Speaker 11: last time, and I was like, we'll just push it, okay.
- 20:47Speaker 11: I managed quality control at a company that supplause merchandise
- 20:50Speaker 11: to big box retailers, Walmart, Target, that kind of thing.
- 20:54Speaker 11: This job felt high stake sometimes because if you messed
- 20:56Speaker 11: up an inspection, it becomes a very expensive problem. Very fast,
- 21:00Speaker 11: we bring on a new hire. On the first day,
- 21:02Speaker 11: he comes in, does orientation, sits in the morning training
- 21:05Speaker 11: session with a few other people in the room, and
- 21:08Speaker 11: then during your break he starts making conversation. At first,
- 21:11Speaker 11: it's just small talk getting comfortable, and then he starts
- 21:14Speaker 11: telling everyone about his last job. He goes, yeah, honestly,
- 21:18Speaker 11: the last place, the last place I worked, I used
- 21:20Speaker 11: to just help myself with stuff, take things home. They
- 21:24Speaker 11: never really noticed whatever that would be bod He laughed
- 21:29Speaker 11: like it was a.
- 21:29Speaker 8: Fun little story, and then he says, I mean they
- 21:33Speaker 8: paid better than you guys do so like that was
- 21:39Speaker 8: the punchline that he was making a joke about the
- 21:41Speaker 8: salary and this stealing was just like the setup or whatever.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Wait, well they paid better than you, so I just,
- 21:47Speaker 3: you know, took everything home. Whatever. Nobody laughed. Yeah, no,
- 21:51Speaker 3: one's laughing.
- 21:53Speaker 2: In case you were wondering, you think it was the
- 21:55Speaker 2: opposite where if they paid worse, he'd be like, oh,
- 21:57Speaker 2: they don't pay very well.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Me let me just take does they paid more, so
- 22:00Speaker 1: they must have extra money. I ams have a lot.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Maybe that was the drash.
- 22:03Speaker 8: Now the trainer looked at him. Then looked at the wall,
- 22:07Speaker 8: then looked back at him. Then there was a long
- 22:09Speaker 8: pause and we had some large, very large men.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Walk him outs.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Oh really, the whole.
- 22:16Speaker 8: Thing from him sitting down to him being escorted off
- 22:18Speaker 8: the property was approximately thirty.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Five Okay, so the old tape for the time what
- 22:25Speaker 1: he got there, the time he got there his first day,
- 22:28Speaker 1: that was oriented got there. So many people blow it
- 22:30Speaker 1: up on the first day.
- 22:31Speaker 2: That's how like all the stories were today, Like every
- 22:34Speaker 2: single story is easier. That's probably, I mean, it's got
- 22:36Speaker 2: to be easy to find a bad hire right away.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It's I mean, there's somebody to break bad ten years
- 22:41Speaker 2: after their job, just like all of a sudden, there's
- 22:43Speaker 2: like so much pressure to sell after or whatever. That's right.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'm gonna get it well, okay, And for
- 22:50Speaker 3: my last and for my last trick, and I'm just kidding.
- 22:53Speaker 3: For the last story we're gonna do.
- 22:55Speaker 2: We're gonna watch a clip story.
- 22:57Speaker 3: This is Sandra, Yeah, this is Sandra.
- 23:03Speaker 12: Scene will tell me about a candidate that we were
- 23:06Speaker 12: trying to hire here at the Boys and Girls Club. Now,
- 23:09Speaker 12: obviously we work with kids. The majority of our staff
- 23:11Speaker 12: are kid facing. At one of our sites, and so
- 23:15Speaker 12: our standards for safety and work we will allow in
- 23:18Speaker 12: the background checks is a lot more astrangents and this
- 23:22Speaker 12: person had a lot of bad things pop up on
- 23:26Speaker 12: their background check, and so we obviously word them adverseler
- 23:30Speaker 12: that we can proceed. Why mostly go either you know,
- 23:34Speaker 12: fighter because they feel it's an error, or they're working
- 23:37Speaker 12: to clear it off, or they just go radio sound
- 23:40Speaker 12: like because they agree and they know that I probably
- 23:42Speaker 12: shouldn't be working with kids if I have said felaties misdemeanors,
- 23:45Speaker 12: where it is this candidate had both felonies and misdemeanors,
- 23:50Speaker 12: including things like domestic barry, you know, involving children, which woodlines.
- 23:54Speaker 12: This is a hard pass.
- 23:57Speaker 3: There's no way. And she actually called us to ask why.
- 24:01Speaker 12: We couldn't focus on her personality and hire her anyway.
- 24:06Speaker 6: And when my teen told me this, I just had
- 24:08Speaker 6: to like pause for a moment, And I'm like, on
- 24:12Speaker 6: the one hand, I commend her courage to fight for
- 24:16Speaker 6: what she believes is the right thing to do, But
- 24:19Speaker 6: like I said before, there's no way we can bring
- 24:22Speaker 6: this person into work around markets.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Well, I thank goodness for background checks because, like imagine
- 24:29Speaker 3: if they hadn't done one. Yeah, you know, and I
- 24:33Speaker 3: don't know. It's crazy to have a record.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Like that and think you'll be able to wounciations and
- 24:38Speaker 1: be checks and you see the stuff and you see
- 24:42Speaker 1: the role, right yeah, and you realize who's getting screened
- 24:47Speaker 1: it and you think about, gosh, this is what happens
- 24:50Speaker 1: when they know there's a background check. What would happen
- 24:54Speaker 1: if they knew there wasn't one?
- 24:56Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I mean that's crazy. You can get to
- 25:00Speaker 2: what you like.
- 25:00Speaker 1: You're like, what why would they think this would be
- 25:02Speaker 1: the right role? You know, there's a role for everyone, man,
- 25:05Speaker 1: there just is a role. I really believe that in
- 25:06Speaker 1: my heart, there's a role for everyone, no matter what
- 25:10Speaker 1: your background is. You know the context of who you
- 25:13Speaker 1: are and your story can you can find you somewhere
- 25:16Speaker 1: and allowed you and allowed you to go. It's up
- 25:19Speaker 1: to you what you what you do with it when
- 25:21Speaker 1: you get it right. Yeah, but there are some places
- 25:25Speaker 1: you just can't be right and you just you know,
- 25:28Speaker 1: you've I don't know, and so but when you when
- 25:32Speaker 1: you're behind the scenes and you know, I've sat with
- 25:37Speaker 1: employees who've, for example, did sex offender screening every day.
- 25:43Speaker 1: You know, and when you look at five hundred sex
- 25:45Speaker 1: offender screens a day and the stuff that comes across
- 25:49Speaker 1: and you're verifying if this person is that person, you know,
- 25:53Speaker 1: it's it's a dark, dark, dark place, man. Yeah, it's
- 25:57Speaker 1: a dark place. It's you had to be careful the
- 25:58Speaker 1: meddal health of the people who do that in this
- 26:00Speaker 1: in this office.
- 26:01Speaker 2: You know, it was like, yeah, I have a question.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I guess I haven't thought about it, but like, okay,
- 26:05Speaker 2: on the back end of operations and stuff with somebody
- 26:08Speaker 2: on any team or even even let's say if somebody
- 26:11Speaker 2: was ever doing a background check by hand and somebody
- 26:14Speaker 2: the background check they're doing of person ABC wherever they're
- 26:17Speaker 2: at is, uh, they're going through their background check. Can
- 26:21Speaker 2: they see what job that that person's trying to apply to? Like,
- 26:24Speaker 2: can they see John Smith's trying to apply to be
- 26:26Speaker 2: a teacher?
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:27Speaker 1: Right, well they can a lot of times they can see.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It depends, yeah, on the system. And I'll speak for
- 26:33Speaker 1: all of the industry, right, I think it in some
- 26:38Speaker 1: instances you don't do that and some you do. And
- 26:42Speaker 1: I think different companies handle it different ways. Yeah, you know,
- 26:44Speaker 1: we can see certain types of like request types and
- 26:47Speaker 1: certain things that tell us what things are.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Because that's extually while about this story is this person
- 26:52Speaker 2: was with the context of the job they're applying to
- 26:55Speaker 2: work around kids, and then they have like stuff like
- 26:57Speaker 2: bad stuff with with kids in their background check. It's
- 26:59Speaker 2: like parstretout. Is it intense? You know, because I wonder
- 27:02Speaker 2: how often that happens. But like you said, that's why
- 27:05Speaker 2: I think sometimes.
- 27:07Speaker 1: When you know there are there are things in that
- 27:11Speaker 1: you know, the edge cases in the background screening, right
- 27:13Speaker 1: and and in our shop, so much has done electronically,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you know, to kind of put barriers around quality and
- 27:20Speaker 1: ensure everything's done in a really high quality thing. But
- 27:23Speaker 1: there are edge cases where you got to you got
- 27:25Speaker 1: to get somebody there to take a look at it.
- 27:27Speaker 1: And I think there's probably times when they think about
- 27:32Speaker 1: the customer and go, you know, this is for this case,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'm I'm going to err on the side of caution here,
- 27:42Speaker 1: not in the caution of what we get sued, but
- 27:44Speaker 1: in the caution of safety, you know, And a lot
- 27:48Speaker 1: of times I think, you know, team members will make
- 27:50Speaker 1: that type of call, but you know, in our organization
- 27:55Speaker 1: happens kind of you know, it's kind of rare because
- 27:57Speaker 1: of the amount of automation that's occurring where we've just
- 27:59Speaker 1: kind of I've built those decisions. Yeah, but that's those
- 28:03Speaker 1: get super for home along.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I like good stories too, like not just
- 28:07Speaker 2: hiring and first day stuff that like just like the
- 28:10Speaker 2: interview stories too, where they can catch up turning the
- 28:12Speaker 2: interview process. It is super important too. Yeah.
