- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Dave, so let's talk business today.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: We got a bunch of questions that were sent in and it's been a minute since we just had a full business.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: You're starting already.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to be.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to be.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, I'm just going to ask questions and we'll both talk about, tell me a moment when you realize as an entrepreneur, I'm just thinking too small.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: uh... every day everyday realizing things are small uh... okay my friend t dot dusk yet uh... he was at my house one time out my apartment one time this had to be two thousand
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, maybe 2013 around there at the time I didn't realize I was thinking too small, but I realized I was thinking too small later.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I remember I'm selling these T-shirts.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: I started selling these sleepers for circus T-shirts in 2010, and you know, it's going good for a couple of years, man.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was able to quit my job in 2012.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: And my man died, he came by, and I think I'm working at the Kiosk this time.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we were having a conversation.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, bro, the brain is growing.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, yeah, bro.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: He said, man, eventually we're going to be able to walk up to any club in Atlanta.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll be able to get in free any club.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I said, yeah.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Imagine going to a line of any clubs on my walking up.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: You got to connect because the brand people were in the shirts like our big goal was getting in the club for free The whole goal to build the bread like at a high level.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was it to make millions.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean obviously we wanted to make money, but at that time as limited like
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: We were limited in what we could see in terms of like what it means to be successful and success, look like being able to have relationships at the club.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking way too small.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: But again, I didn't, I thought that was thinking big.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about just any club in the whole city just walking up because the face card is good.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: I, that was.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I realized I was thinking too small when I was an entrepreneur, but I also still had my full-time job.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: And because of the journey that I had gone through of losing so much to foreclosures and repossession and bankruptcy and things, I felt like I have to keep this job but the responsible thing to do would also be to start a business.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so I am, you know, dabble in entrepreneurship.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: I've got things going on and on my job.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: I realized I am smarter than my bosses.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm not going for it because I need to keep
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: And opportunity over here where I can manage this job and keep a check, but not let it take so much of my time that I don't have time to also build a business and so for so long I was being held hostage by my corporate career because that felt safe it felt like a safety net for me.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: When really the truth is, once I decided to go all in and lock in, that same effort that I was giving 40 hours a week at my corporate job to, I put it in my business and there was literally no time that it took for me to like go to the next level where I was able to sustain my responsibilities, my bills, provide for my family the way that I provide, like it happened almost immediately.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: I also realized I was thinking too small the year that you and I decided to make our first million.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was 2021, 2022, something like that.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: I realized I was thinking too small and I think you did too when we wrote, when we sat down and broke down our business model, what are we doing right now to make money and what could help us get there?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember we had
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm maybe somebody gave us that advice to focus on one thing.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: And we're both talking about what we actually did.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, you know, I had a T-shirt brand.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: I had my, my makeshift happen now brand when I release the book and all this, all these things.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm trying to manage a peril.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: which the T-shirt brand, I really had no interest in, but anytime somebody bought the book, they bought the T-shirt, we got to manage these things, and I've got these little master classes and these little communities and these little mansion parties that I'm doing for entrepreneurs for women and all the things.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: And because it was making some money, I was scared to let go of it.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because I was afraid that if I let go, I'd be further away from the goal.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: But when I cut everything off except for the two things that I did, which was sell my course,
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: and build social proof podcast.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Those were the two things and literally for us both, it just like immediately.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to be clear here that that's not an overnight success story that I'm talking about.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't an overnight breakthrough.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was okay.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: At some point you have to realize, you've done the work, you've learned the lessons, you've taken the classes, you've acquired the skills, you've been doing this for years, and at some point,
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: you have to acknowledge that you are thinking too small and maybe the way that you are doing the thing isn't the way that's going to get you to the next level.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the way that you are doing the thing was only qualified to get you to where you are, but it's not going to get you to where you're going.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: So you got to step out and you got to lock in.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I really, I realized I was thinking through small probably like three weeks ago, and this is like a real thing.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: So every damn more like loop net or cracks see what your websites that add commercial buildings.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I keep getting this idea, man.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: People are asking me, yo, can I, can I do an event that holds 100, 150 people at the clubhouse?
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, no, so we need something bigger.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: probably need something.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: There's a gap in it lands of event space that can hold like five to 750 people.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm looking at, I'm looking at, um, looped that in CREC C, and I'm calculating what I think I can handle.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of maybe like a million dollar building, right, million dollars, the mortgage on that might be like five, six thousand, maybe.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm like, well, what if we do something for like 1.5 or 2 million?
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: And we're gonna, okay, well, $10,000 a month, Kylie, I don't know, it's a lot.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I actually look, what I look on these websites, I close the parameters.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say at least $5,000 square feet, the highest is $2 million, because I don't even wanna see something for 10 million.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: But then I realized, why can't we just get something for $5 million?
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: The mortgage on a $5 million commercial loan may be what $25,000.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I started to ask myself the question, how could we make it make sense?
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I love this space, right?
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: I put my heart so bloods what every dollar that I had to space.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: But I start to think to myself, how can we just take down a $45 million than space by something bigger than what I have in my pocket.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, in search and for stuff, we're looking at what we have in our pocket or what could be manageable, but there's so many different ways to go about this.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I'd say it was three weeks because I just started going through this process.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: of figuring out how I can grab equity out of this building, equity out of the other building.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I'm not afraid of letting this building go, not selling it, but even leasing it out.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I start penciling.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: I could literally, so if I could take half of it, you take half of it, we can get like a $45 million building, and I'm just looking for my perspective, you've got strings of money.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a client for you.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like...
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: I would have to rent this out for like $8 to $9,000 a month, $10,000 a month, we're not the other one for a certain amount of money, put that money together, and the overhead would only be like a little bit, but all this thought process came from me asking myself the question, how could I?
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: So right now, I'm going to the process with the bank and they're asking for a lot of information to see if I'm bankable.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: to even be qualified for $3 million.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: If I could be qualified for $3 million, you could be qualified for $3 million.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: We could take down a $5 million property and really cash flow something major.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I know it was three weeks ago, because that's why I started going through this process.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: Stop looking for stuff that I can afford right now.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: Stop looking for stuff that you can afford right now.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Comfortably afford.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: Comfortably afford stretch.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: Stretch.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's easy.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: We could do some for $10 million.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: We
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know, we could really take down a $15 million project with my resources, your resources, my network, your network, a good plan, some investors.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: We could do that.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: There are people that are raising $20, $30 million for projects.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: We did it.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: There are, we could do that.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: And we could even do it without leveraging any of our own money.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: There are so many options, I think,
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: we just have to think outside of the box.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think even to go back to the question about thinking too small, I think we're only thinking and processing things from what we have access to right now.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: But how do you get more access?
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Let's start thinking about that.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: How do you acquire more skills?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: How do you access the money?
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it's based on what you just said.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: and focusing on the fact that we have the problem.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, $10 million property by myself, based on what I have right now is a problem.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: But what if we flip that and we turn the mindset into, well, what do I have to become in order to qualify for the $10 million property?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: And now your mindset starts to be focused on ideas and solutions and not problems.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how we figure it out.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: We don't even have to think outside the box.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think inside our box, we're not leveraging a fraction.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: If what's inside the box, we've got so much inside this box.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: We've got all rich inside the box.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even want to talk about it because... Are people leveraging everything that's inside their box?
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about that, though.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: How do you know if you're leveraging what's inside your box?
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: I know you have to take inventory of what you have, and what you have, and who you have.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: What you have, like assets, resources, your ability to think, your brand is an asset, and then who you have, who can compliment what you're trying to do or help you get to the level, or help you get what you don't have.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think those two things are already inside most of our box.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think people recognize what they have in their box?
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: No, because we don't.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Is it that we don't recognize it or we just don't pick those things up?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: We don't use it.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: We don't reach out to the people.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: We don't tap back into the networks.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: If you and I, if you and I even realized it, we've been doing a lot bigger and better at things.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Give me an example of something that we have in our box that we're not leveraging.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: between, okay, let me ask you this, between our network and let's say we were going to build out a software or something, some sort of project.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: How much do you think if we really liked it, I'm not talking about outside people when we're trying to find other resources, inside our network, how much do you think we could raise for a project?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Millions of dollars.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't done it.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't sat down in the inventory.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, one thing that we have done, we did make a very awful attempt at raising some money one time.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it went that awful.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: It was good, I think.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was great.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: How we did, we had commitments.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: And we didn't know follow up because we saw the building.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a long period of time before we, between the commitments that we received and us selling the building.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, well, it wasn't that much time between the commitments we received and us deciding to sell the building.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: But I even think that first of all, we didn't invite everyone in our network.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about it.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about it.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: We did not invite everybody in our
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: we were scared to ask for the money.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: You do it, you do it, you do it, you do it, you do it, we're just, and then I got COVID, and I couldn't be here.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Remember I had the call in, I had to fall in.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I had COVID.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: And you had to, I was supposed to ask for the money, but you had to ask for the money.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now we closed a lot of the room though.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: rings true over and over and over for us is preparation.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: How much are we willing to prepare?
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: Even making sure that we're not taking it, that we're not taking for granted, like we know a lot, right?
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: We possess a lot of information.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: We've built a lot of skill sets based on real-world experience, but
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think sometimes what happens with us and just business owners' period is that you feel like you, I know so much.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is what I do.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: I do this in my sleep.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, true.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: But could you have a bigger, better result if you prepared for the thing that you know so much about?
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: In that case, though, I think we were well prepared.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we didn't know we did that.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: We had a little dinner.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what we're trying to do.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: It was fun.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: So it looks really weird.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: We bought this building, and then we started formulating what exactly we're going to do, and then we started looking at the numbers.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: We only need a couple million dollars, maybe two million dollars, something like that.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're 1.5 something like that.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: So we invited some people, we had money, Terrika was there, Darry is there, she was there.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: She was there.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: She was there.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: So we had a bunch of people there, if I'm missing you, I'm sorry.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: But they were there.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: We did a presentation, we had to slides, we math the numbers, answer the questions, and Terrika was like,
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna invest.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm good.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: She said that Darius and Shamega called her, like you have us?
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have one that's the best.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we close the good portion of that room.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the building itself.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: We were not prepared to manage that in that side of town.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: So he's like, all right, this is ridiculous.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: We can't keep homeless people out.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that'd be the right side of town for this project.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't it was not the right side of town.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: It was not the right time in our careers based on the budget and everything that was going to be required.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like it required a lot.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: I want to get through some of these questions.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to just tell them what we have because we didn't tell them why.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, we got these people there.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: We went through the presentation and we were looking to raise money for this project.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: We had a dinner.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was laid out lights were low candles really nice music playlists.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll play with it.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to do it again.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: Just a bit on, you know?
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to do it again.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be reaching out to our network.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: So what are some examples of activities today that actually move the needle forward in someone's business?
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: Asking for the money.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Asking for the money.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: Very few entrepreneurs.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: Actually ask people to buy.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: being intentional about asking for the money.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think sometimes we see that people are they're making posts and they're introducing themselves and they're doing all the things.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: But nothing ever really has a call to action attached to it.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: I tell people often that my calculator is my cash, my calendar is my cash calculator.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I can look at my calendar and see how much activity I have on my calendar to determine how intentional I'm being about, I'm being about building my business in that season, right?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: And there are activities, there are small activities and there are large activities and the small activities and the things that you can do that are sometimes important, but not enough to move the needle forward.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it's important that you file that paperwork with your state, right, to make sure that your business is legitimized.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a task that you spend all day on.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a task that you spend all week on.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: You go like you get that done as quickly as possible.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: You move it out of the way because the tasks that you need to be doing to build the business to move the needle forward are taking sales calls.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: sending follow-ups, creating tags so that you can manage user behavior and market more intentionally to your clients, creating content that actually positions you as an authority, creating content that actually speaks to your audience, but creating content with a call to action in place, setting up your automation so that you're no longer dropping the ball in responding to people, setting up your mini chat automation, setting up workflows, actually
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: uh, responding to opportunities that's been extended to you like these are these are activities that actually move the needle forward moving away from planning the launch and actually launching going back and looking at your data and saying hey, I noticed that when I do this particular set of activity, I get a large result, but when I do this particular set of activity, I don't do a large result.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I've tested this three times so I know that that I have some type of a pattern here.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: There's some type of alignment here, like just getting really, really dialed in on things that move the needle forward in your business.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: I like to pick one admin day a week.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Because the admin tasks are important.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm not going to spend time every single day on admin tasks because usually my admin tasks are really, really draining.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: And if it's something that I can't delegate, something that I have to handle myself, I become so drained by the admin tasks that sometimes it can make it overwhelming for me to now.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: Pick up after that after dealing with that to go and do the actual move the needle forward in my business tasks, right?
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I have one day a week and just a portion of that day where I handle admin tasks.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: I expect it.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's blocked out on my calendar I'm already in and of the energy in the mindset that this is what I have to do But every other day their after is about moving the needle forward in my business or my client's businesses.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I am learning
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: I have a strong retention rate of clients.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: I thankfully don't have to solicit for a lot of one on one clients because I retain the majority of clients that work with me.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, what does that require?
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: In order for me to have monthly recurring revenue from these clients, that means that I have to help them move the needle forward in their business.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: So one of those things that move the needle forward for me is being sharpened up to move the needle forward for them.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: That means that I am staying in education, that means that I'm going through and breaking down people's funnels.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm reversing engineering, I'm reversing engineering ideas that I think could be useful for them.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: That means that I am a student of
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: of my industry.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm constantly studying because the business like what I do is a business consultant requires that I stay on top of what's working right now.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: I need to know what's working about webinars, what's working about challenges, what's working about grant openings, what's working about launches, and even though there are some...
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: standard things, some traditional things that we'll always do in business, we also have to honor what's working today.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I have to stay on top of that stuff, right?
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think you had the nail in the head, right?
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's what people are missing.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure you had a lot of, uh, pain points for people, just going through this conversation.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: You touched on a bunch of things that even I'm sitting there like, dang, and she's right.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: I need to get myself together.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, as I'm looking through this list, I'm looking at, let me just ask this one, what are some actual activities that you've done that created the biggest growth in your business?
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Creating a system of consistent distribution of content.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: creating a system of consistent distribution of content.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so some people will create content, but I have a system that's like pretty much automated, where we have a lot of, we put a lot of content out into the world.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: And the more content that we put out in the world, the more people it reaches, the more people it reaches, the more the right people that get reached, and you know, people reach out for opportunities, things that I nature.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: So believe it or not,
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: Continent is very important for your, your brain.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't like that, you know, 15 years ago, 20 years ago, but if you want people to see you, where are people at?
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're on their phones.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm very, very big on content.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm actually, we've been going through a process to try to hire another videographer, which has been quite a task over the last couple of weeks, because we want to put out even more content.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: We want to put out even more.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: So hiring another person, I want to put out a long video
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I like people post a short every day on this screen.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: I want to put on our long like this every day.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Seven days a week and that system was going to take more.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: Not even necessarily more work from my from my perspective, but just more talented people that I can put out the content.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: When we're talking about content, what's the difference between creating content because you want attention and creating content because you're building a business.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just a mindset, you should, if you're watching this and you're a follower of a social group, podcast, you know we want attention so that we can build our business.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: But some people want attention and they're satisfied, it shows out of them a man, J. Scryte, when he was first working here and I'm so proud of him because he's just on another level now.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: But when he first came, he was so focused on the views of something.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: and if a video did too well he didn't want to put out anything behind that because he went that one to eat.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like that live for me.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh let it live and you're so excited about the views or that but if you are going to consistently build a business you got to have a bunch of hits which means if you're going to have a bunch of hits you got to put out a bunch of songs.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: You got to put out a lot of songs to get a couple hits.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: and the more so as you put out, the more hits you get.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: So like the person that's watching this right now, please do not start creating content, not start, but you should have something to sell if you're creating content because people go viral and then they're trying to figure out what to do with this viral audience.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: What you can still be poor.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: So you need to have a business model where the whole goal of creating the content is a drive People to the business.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's really really good.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's actually really really good The whole goal is to drive people to the business.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so when an entrepreneur says I need to make more money.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: Where does your mind immediately go?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's more people.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Ask more people.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: I
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: I only got an else, like ask more people to buy this stuff.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: Ask more people.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: How else do you make more money?
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: You can raise your prices or you could get people to buy consistently, but you got to ask more people to buy.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Simply.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you have to ask more people to buy, but I'd even back up a little bit from there.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: First, how do we know how have we confirmed that we have an offer that is worth people's money?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: Have you confirmed it?
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if people are buying it, if people are buying it, then my next question would be the customers that you have right now, where these are supporters, family, and friends, or was this a real audience of people who actually need what you offer?
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then they may say, well, no, I've actually
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: So that, well, yeah, I sold this to my family and friends.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, we don't have an offer yet.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: What you have is support.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's a fact.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: Big fact, yeah.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have a proven concept yet.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: What you have is a tremendous amount of people who love you, and they're going to buy.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, my stuff, I sold because people loved me.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: because the fundraisers, the network marketing business, the buy the cleaners, buy the coffee, book a trip, just because they loved me, but that wasn't something that I was able to scale.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: So then my next question is, now if you are selling to people who are not your friends and family and supporters and people who love you, are you paying attention to the feedback?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: selling and getting sales could have just been an event.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you launched and your content was so great that people were willing to risk it and they made a purchase.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you spoke at an event and they resonated with you so well that they went to your booth and they made a purchase.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: But then they got that product and they weren't pleased with it.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: It missed the mark completely.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't honor what you promised it.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't well put together.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: So now I'm asking of those people who act of those real customers who purchased,
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: What has been their experience?
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: Have you gone out?
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like the first thing I'm gonna ask you to do is if you found that you were selling in blocks and segments and you're not getting more business because the truth of the matter is, if somebody likes what you've sold them, they're gonna tell somebody else about it.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: So at the very least, you should have some referrals trickling in.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: I would go back to those customers and say, hey, thank you so much for buying XYZ.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to check in and see what your experience is about it.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes in order to sell more, we actually have to slow down and order to speed up.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes that looks like, looks like looking at the data that is given to you, based on what you've already done.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: Go and ask customers, would you love about it?
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: What could be better?
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: Is either a testimonial?
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: or it's data for improvement that you need to do on this offer.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: 100% not good.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, those are just a few of the things.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: Then let's just say both of those things are in place.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: The offer is good.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: The offer is solid.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: Well, how's your visibility?
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: has your visibility.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: What are we doing for visibility?
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I post content maybe three days a week.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you post content sometimes, which explains why you make money.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what it is.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: People are afraid to tell people that they are in business.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: people are afraid they run their business like they're in the secret service.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're in witness protection.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: Are you a is your business in business protection of some sort where you can't tell the masses and the other thing is people will start to make money and it feels good and a couple of things happen.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: One, the reason that you could be making inconsistent money is because whenever you start to make money, you get this rush and you stop focusing on money making activities, you start focusing on celebrating and spending and things like that and so you're constantly having to rebuild momentum.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of us need to also like disconnect the work from the results and some people the work and result are so tied together when I do the work I get a result and I'm excited but if you start doing the work and you don't get the result then you feel like the work's not working and sometimes it just could be a season so you have to like disconnect from the result as we're doing the thing.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: We want to watch the numbers and see what's happening and paste things and be able to have some sort of assessment, but we can't stop the work because emotionally we're not getting a reward and that's the fastest way to kill a business.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: So again, separating that work and reward has been super huge.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think most of us have an idea of what we need to do and if you don't know what to do, then you need to get a coach, you should probably join a social group circle.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: But I think most people know the activity, if you ask them what should you be doing, they'll tell you.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: But they're not doing it because they're either expecting a reward too soon or they did the work for a second and because the reward didn't come, they felt like they were doing a wrong thing.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: I was talking to Tiffany for your my part and we're going through assessment of, you know, the things that's going on.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, oh, how can I improve?
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm asking questions.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, yeah, I did that.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm doing that.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm doing that.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, bro.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: At this point, it's a matter of time.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: Some of us got some good stuff and it's just a matter of time.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: You got to keep doing that thing until something happens because we're getting small results.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: I just need you to keep on that path.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: But sometimes we're on that path, we're getting small wins, and then because it's not big enough, we switched the whole game, and then we got to start all over again.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: When that success was about to hit, for some of us, it's just a matter of time.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: for some of us is just a matter of time.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: So you're saying some people are turning around before the breakthrough happens.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: You're right there.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: You're right there.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes your next level of growth is to just keep doing what you're doing right now.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: You're doing nothing.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it's that you're not doing anything wrong.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: But the next question that an entrepreneur if they're coming to us for coaching,
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: And we say, well, how do you know you've done anything wrong?
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: How do you know you're doing anything wrong?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: How do we, how do they know if this is just a matter of keep going or need some tweaking?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that will tell you, if you talk to 10 people and nobody buys, we can either look at the product or we can look at your approach.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: So, gotta look at both of those, right?
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: If people aren't buying because you got to not be afraid to ask people why didn't you buy this and some people might tell you that they don't need it right now or the too high or they already have one.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well in that situation we could be talking to them wrong audience.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you're asking them wrong 10.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: These 10 aren't your market but if you got to ask another 10 that actually
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: you might land four out of ten and then realize you're not doing anything wrong you were just talking to the wrong people yeah so we can check the product or we can check the approach because you could have a a good product you bring in some like adani wiggins to do three sales calls and she closes with your same offer but you can close anybody
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean you have a good product.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: You're just not the right person, which means you need to learn how to sell.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many things to check before you just turn on a quit.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love that response.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I'm going to ask, I'm going to, we're running out of time.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: I have to ask a couple more questions.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just say.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: What's a business decision you got completely wrong?
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's a business decision.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: I got completely wrong.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: What's the business, uh, I got a question for you?
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: What's a business decision that you got completely wrong?
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: Um, well, a bunch wrong.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I got so many things wrong in business, but I'm trying to think of a decision.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I've, I've made some decisions.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I got one, too.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you go first.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I remember the morning meet-up was maybe like $97.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: Then I dropped it to 19.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: I sent it to that.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, you sent it.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: I sent it to that.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: But why not?
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: because I calculated it wrong.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking that if you drop something from 97 to 19, more people will buy, and that wasn't the case.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: 19 was too cheap for the audience to actually think that this is gonna get them to transformation.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: So they rather just not spend in 19 and not get anything, and I'm thinking, I'm cool enough to people just follow.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: So we had a lot of people in, but
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean a lot less money by dropping it to 19 because it wasn't like 1,000 ex people that joined because of the 19 bucks.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I got that wrong.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: And you got to think about so many things.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like even if you say, well, I'm going to run the volume play and run ads.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: You're doing it with
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: 20% of the budget per customer that you were bringing in before.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: Every webinar allows money.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: Every so you have to, it just financially doesn't make sense.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: So you lower your price, impulsively, and that was a bad decision.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't impulsively.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: I thought through it is just, I was, I was calculated.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: Miss calculated.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: For me, one of the things that one of the mistakes that I made was thinking that bringing another person on my team was going to help me grow at a time that the right choice would have been to focus on.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: putting systems in place first.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I remember hiring, I had your two assistants in fact, one virtual assistant and one in person assistant.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I was so
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: ambitious and so anxious to grow that I'm like, oh, I just know that if I bring an assistant in here, like they're going to help me do X, Y, and Z.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then I get my assistant, shout out to Samantha.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: Samantha was fantastic.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_00]: I get my assistant and she's eager to work.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: She's eager to work with the Donnie Wiggins.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I just want to help.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: I want to help build the brand, like you've impacted me in a way that I want to help and have some impact on you to build this business.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: And she would come to my apartment.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: and she'd be like, okay, so what's on the agenda today?
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: What do I do?
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, oh, I don't know.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know what to do?
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know what to do?
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't know what to do, I don't know what to tell you to do.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: And instead of me stopping and saying, you know what?
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: Let me pace myself.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Let me put some
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: Pro some systems in place.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: Let me actually like I decided that I needed an assistant before I realized what I needed an assistant to do Yeah, and you just hire them to like just be there and do stuff and you just hire and they start doing and everybody's doing stuff Everybody's just doing stuff, but none of this stuff is moving the needle forward.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need another Google Drive organized
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: I need some brand deals, but yeah, just just hiring people before I was really clear on what I, and let me tell you something.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't get clear on what you need what you actually need done in the business, you'll find yourself hiring.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: hiring heartbeats, instead of experts, instead of talent and skill.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: You'll just be putting your cousins and your aunties and your grandmas, in position to do things that you need them, but they're not qualified to do.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they find yourself creating stuff for them to do.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: Then you find yourself creating stuff for them to do.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's resentment that builds up and then there's time and hours that you've spent just trying to figure out stuff to do like if I could give you any advice especially if you're in your growth stage right now Just make a list of all the things that have to happen in your business every single day the big activities, the small activities, the activities that you don't think are significant.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: Every single thing that has to happen.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then outline the things.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: Highlight first the things that only you can do, right?
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: Only you can do.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: We can't get people to come in here and be Donnie Wiggins and David Shans on the podcast.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: We have to do that.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: But we can delegate who does the thumbnail.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: We can delegate who does the recording.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: We can delegate who does the uploading.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: We can delegate who manages the community.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_00]: Figure all those things out.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: and then I want you to group the things that are similar tasks, similar roles.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then you'll score them based on priority, which ones are revenue generating activities, which ones have to happen for you to remain in compliance for something, which ones are things that are important, but you have no business doing, which ones are things that are not so important, you also have no business doing, and it will reveal to you whether you need the executive assistant or personal assistant or tech support,
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: or operations person, but have the role mapped out and then find the person who's qualified for that role.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: I spent also time hiring people that I like that weren't qualified for the job.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: We story in my life.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was in a interview yesterday.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I interviewed the young lady to for the videographer role and I need, I for sure need someone who could like go into a room, set up the podcast for a client because we're getting more bookings at a studio,
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: and she's dope, she does some creative stuff and I was like, if I just like leave you on this room to set up cameras to roast guests, it's a aid tip all the time stuff can you set up so that I haven't but I can learn.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: My knee-jerk reaction was, okay I could teach her.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: She does all this other cool stuff, it's just cool.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: But the reason I'm hiring for this role,
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: is when someone books, you go set up the room and I got to worry about it.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: So almost made a decision to hire someone who 100% can't do what I'm asking them to do.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right now.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: And where I was going to say something.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: We will get tracked and to liking people into our business.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a guilt that comes with it when you really like somebody and what they bring to the table and you choose not to move forward with them.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: What's a decision that changed the trajectory of your business?
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: A decision you've made that's changed the trajectory of your business?
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: What's a business that I'm made?
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: What's a decision that you've made that changed the trajectory?
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, a positive work is every decision changed the trajectory at some point.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: In a positive way, in a way that has attributed to growth.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to think of a good example.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: I've done a really bunch of cool things, building a studio.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: Building a studio.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: For me, I will say,
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: focusing and dialing in on just the things that I do best at one time I had a lot of offers and I was making great money from a lot of different places, 20 grand here, 40 grand there, 100 grand there, ooh, 200 grand here, and I pride at myself on being
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: multiple streams of income earner.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: I pride it myself on having multiple businesses and that kept me from making seven figures.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: That kept me from making seven figures because I had to make the decision to pull back so that I could stabilize in one area.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: and then introduce another branch into my business.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we both missed the obvious something that completely changed both of our lives was the podcast.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, for sure.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: Using our voice as much as possible.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: Putting as much information out there is possible, not being worried that people will not want to hire us or do business with us because we're giving them.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: everything for free.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: We've got over a thousand videos of stuff on the internet like right now and who has time to watch all this stuff?
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: We're not afraid to get, we're doing it right now.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you want to watch this episode and try to DIY it and you've said something once before let me, you said once before not to become the pro at DIY.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: But in this season of growth, do you want to grow slower?
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to grow quickly?
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: And if you want to grow slow, that's fine.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: Take all this free information that we put out and you figure it out and you take it and say, oh, well, they say you need systems in place.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let me now go research what the systems are.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, now let me go research how to use these systems.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, now let me research how to put them all in an order or a framework in which these systems benefit my business.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: Donnie says something about SOPs.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's a good nugget, Donnie.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: What's an SLP?
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: But using our voice in this way, I would summarize this into creating our own platform.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_00]: So many people in their growth stage are looking for other people's platforms.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: I say, create your own.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_01]: got to.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: Got to.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: You got to create your own platform, or you'll continue to beg other people to be on theirs.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: And once you build your own platform, other people will beg to be on yours.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: And you get to have your choice.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: People are attracted to people who have something that they can benefit from.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: And we have a platform that people can benefit from.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: We have, even if you don't have a big platform,
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you have your own platform and it's not large, there'll be people that will want to get on it, like in social pro circles, there's a lot of people that's getting on each other's podcast.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's valuable.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: Your build relationships.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: At least you, if you run into somebody, you can ask them.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, like, would you like to, you know, be on my platform, but I would rather you be in that situation that you're constantly asking other people to be on there.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's actually really good.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, let me see what question I want to go with.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_00]: No more.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_00]: One more.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: Are we out of time?
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: Never at a time.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: One more for now.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: Was something you had to learn about making keeping or multiplying money?
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: I read the question again.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: What something you had to learn about making keeping or multiplying money?
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, one major lesson I had to learn was I have to put the money into something that will grow without my help.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: So, I grow up, traditional entrepreneurship, where I have a product, I sell it, I take the money, I put that money back into the product that I'm going to have to go sell.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I'm so heavy on buying real estate because you could put money into real estate, which is an asset that will grow in value, meaning your money is going to grow.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you buy an asset for $300,000, chances are, in next five years, six years, I mean,
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: or 400,000, then your money is put to work and if you have someone else paying for that asset and there's no money that you have to pay for it and they're taking care of mortgage and then some you now really put your money to work and a lot of times there's strategies where you don't need a whole lot of money at all but I had to learn that I don't
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: strategic partners, strategic partners come into play there.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: Something that I had to learn about, making, keeping or multiplying money.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: I have had to learn so many lessons about money in all my years as an entrepreneur.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: One, don't spend it faster than you earn it.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, you would think that you don't need to be told that, right?
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: You would think, you would think, oh, it was harder.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: Easier said than done.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: Easier said than done, because what happens is you are not budgeting what you're spending.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: You're looking at your bank account and you're saying, oh, yeah, I can invest this in ads.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I can hire this person.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, I can do this thing and then you turn around and you're out of money.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: You're out of money and now you can't do now you can't get more inventory because you've spent money in other areas So I have learned the importance of creating a money map like instructions for what our money can do and I use that terminology over budget Even though what most people will understand what I'm trying to communicate is to create a budget and I learned this Actually when I was in property management we we bring in all this money from collecting rent
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: and you would think that every single month, we'd have a $100,000 market, like if our budget was $100,000 a month, for marketing, you would think that we'd allocated that way, January $100,000, February $100,000, but then I learned in property management that it doesn't work that way.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: We had to identify our peak seasons.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you just have to know when what you do is out of season, right?
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: And so at,
- 48:17[SPEAKER_00]: In the month of let's say August, August, September, October, really, really slow for us at that time, at least when I was in property management, because people had spent the summer getting their new homes, so that they were in position before their kids went back to school.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: We knew that the end of the year was a high season for moving into an apartment.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: We knew that the summer and the holiday time really, really big season.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: And so our marketing budget would be higher in May, June, July, then it would be in August, September, or then it would be in February, March, like we have more dollar instead of putting a hundred thousand dollars of marketing dollars.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: into February, let's maybe instead put more money to work the budget of going out and building the relationships.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: So we're not doing paid marketing and Google ads and all these things at $100,000, maybe we'll do it at $50,000 because this is our slow season where we know that those ads don't work, but let's go over to the locators that help people find places and let's spend more money.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: talking to them and, and, and, and, and courting them so that they can use their relationships and send us people or maybe that's the time where we don't have a lot of move-ins and move-outs where we take that extra $50,000 or the $50,000 that we took from marketing in February and let's put it into systems and maintenance.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: This is a good time to improve what the grounds look like.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_00]: This is a good time to improve what the customer experience is like.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so somebody would say, I have $100,000 or $120,000 for the year for marketing.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: And someone who doesn't have strategy would say, okay, great.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: So let's do $10,000 a month now.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: Why would you do $10,000 in a month that you're not hot?
- 50:11[SPEAKER_00]: Some of us have seasonal businesses.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: Have a client who's a chef who he sells cookbooks.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be crazy to coach him to not spend more money around Black Friday.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: to get those cookbooks out, why?
- 50:28[SPEAKER_00]: Because people now start looking for new recipes to try for Thanksgiving time.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: We'd be crazy to not tell them to put more budget out there during the holidays, during Valentine's Day.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: Because you've got significant others who are cooking and they're looking for ideas.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: These are the times where we spend the most money.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: So ultimately, I'd say something that I had to learn was to give our money instructions, but actually look at our money
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: What best serves us in spend in this season of our business?
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right, that's a whole episode right there.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: That question could be a whole episode.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: That question could be an entire episode.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to let's close it out with one more question.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: You got time for one more?
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: Let me get one.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: What's something a customer taught you that changed how you operate?
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: What's something that a customer taught me that changed how I operate?
- 51:34[SPEAKER_01]: There have been people that didn't buy because it was inexpensive.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought people just buy more when it's cheaper and they don't, and they're brain, they think there's not value there because we've all grown up knowing that things that have value are more expensive, things that are cheaper, they don't have as much value.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at a multimel versus Kellogg's.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's you know that there are cheaper materials here, simply based on the price and I just thought that I thought that if I went cheaper people would buy more and they actually started buying less but when you go premium people buy more the right people buy more and the wrong people all
- 52:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can say it.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: Wrong the wrong customer.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, loves a good low ticket something the wrong.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: Why the people that love that low ticket something Always the wrong customer always the wrong customer.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's the wrong customer.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's the wrong customer
- 52:59[SPEAKER_00]: And we talked about this in our community earlier.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: There was a question about, you know, I work in the financial services industry, but I'm not comfortable.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: I talk a lot about investing in stocks, but I'm not comfortable putting on the internet what I'm investing in.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to show screenshots of my investments and things of that nature.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather show, you know, how I live my life and my travel and all these things.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that's called lifestyle marketing, right?
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I said that to that, to that member, I said, well, so then you prefer to do lifestyle marketing.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: And there is a lane for lifestyle marketing.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_00]: But it's a little easier to do lifestyle marketing when you have a cool lifestyle.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_00]: But there is a trade-off that comes with attracting customers in certain industries based on how you live your life.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_00]: People tend to gravitate,
- 53:54[SPEAKER_00]: to work lifestyle marketing when they're looking for fast results.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_00]: They want something really, really quick.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want to necessarily put a whole lot of skin in the game.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so then you actually have to filter through a bunch of people who want to do business with you for the right reasons and people who want to do business with you for the wrong reasons.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so we even have to frame, what do we really want from this business?
- 54:18[SPEAKER_00]: What do we need to show to get the right customer?
- 54:21[SPEAKER_00]: your customers will teach you that what evidence do I need to put out there to get the right customer because like Dave was saying if it's too inexpensive or if it's too flashy or if it looks too easy you are going to attract the wrong customers and it's going to put you in a position where you're not growing because you're constantly
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: replacing the customers that are getting out and canceling and doing refund requests or just not sticking because the way that you got them and the way that you attracted them in the first place was shaking.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_00]: It was faulty.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: You can't keep good customers because you let fear talk you out of showing your proof.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: You let fear talk you into
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: dropping your price, because too many people have said no, you can't attract people the wrong way and think that they are going to be the ones that help you build sustainability in your business.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, this is so good.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you all are literally listening to these lessons.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's a good format.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_01]: You came up with this diet, it's a good.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: This was good, right?
- 55:24[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do all of them like this.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do all of them like this.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_00]: I can keep doing it.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_00]: We can keep going because we can keep going because let me also tell you something one of the things that we can do David and I over the last six years first of all happy anniversary happy anniversary anniversary man it's been six years six years we've never had a dinner we've never stopped to celebrate
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: We've never said, let's take a pot of our seri vacation to just frolic.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: First off, do I have to be looking for a reason to take a little vacation?
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: We got a little money in here.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_00]: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
- 56:16[SPEAKER_00]: We deserve to finally celebrate 100%.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so that last time it was a work trip, but this could be a don't little celebration trip.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_01]: This could be a don't we celebrate just to make it different than the things trip?
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: We can invite five people who made a significant impact on our growth in the podcast.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we can shoot some parts out there.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_00]: And we can shoot some pods with them.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, I like what's going on.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: We can invite five people that have just made a tremendous impact.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_00]: And they're still in it.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like they were there at the beginning of six years.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: They had some kind of impact on us, whether we've worked with them, we've interviewed them, whatever that looks like.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_00]: And they're still here and we can just go and we can turn it into like a mastermind celebration.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's about us, we do a dinner and all the things
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going back to Miami.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going back to Mexico.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: David's time for you to take a longer flight.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_01]: I just asked a question.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_00]: What are you going to text?
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: What I am going to say, you're going to say to veto.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say can't come home.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_00]: No, we're not going back to Mexico.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to Mexico.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're
- 57:47[SPEAKER_00]: You see how immature you are?
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: Why Italy?
- 57:49[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to Spain.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_01]: Why Spain?
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to Paris.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: Their food's here.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to Turks and Kicos.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with a little Turks.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_00]: Little Turks.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with a little Turks.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_00]: With a little Turks.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_00]: Little Bali?
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: Where's that at?
- 58:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a 24 hour flight.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_01]: I like a little Turks.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, thanks.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_00]: A little Aruba?
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what?
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: I've been trying.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I want, I haven't been there yet.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go to Hawaii.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_01]: Le Hawaii.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: Hawaii gives me, you know?
- 58:28[SPEAKER_00]: That.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_01]: I like a little Hawaii.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_01]: I do want to do Turks.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_01]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_00]: Tarts are polite.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: I know my dog eating on that list.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_00]: It has to be.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I just sent you two people.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm going to say.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_01]: Um, let's see.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I don't put this in.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_01]: Stay focused.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I would have, I would have, this is a 100% person, but there's a, there's a, yeah, okay.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_01]: So then it would have to, I take that one over, over the other one.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: So then, okay.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_01]: So we're here.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're here with it.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're here with it.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: We're there with it.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: I was surprised you put the first person has to be like, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just
- 59:59[SPEAKER_01]: I was just surprised.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and... Hmm?
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sorry.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_00]: That did numbers.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: The first one.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and then as a result of this, it did numbers as a second for you know what I mean?
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't want to have since you probably wouldn't go to go either.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_00]: So then maybe it's back to it.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_00]: We'll confirm first and then move on.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_01]: Who's lit?
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're excited.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, hold on, hold on.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_00]: Because if we go there, can we go here?
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_00]: So we go there.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_00]: We go there.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_00]: We need, we need a female.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_00]: Another female.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_01]: uh... i mean who trying to think oh she got weird uh... who takes me that oh uh... right now for sure not we're thinking about the year okay we'll figure out
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_00]: We'll figure it out.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, uh-oh.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know if you were watching this, like, yo, what is happening with you?
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: And they bet, and I'm talking about me.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, no.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_00]: OK, y'all, actually do this.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_00]: Give us some ideas on how we should celebrate our six-year anniversary.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_00]: um, in partnership with social proof podcasts, all the things, I would really like to figure out our very first entrepreneur summit because that's really the start.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_00]: When was our first entrepreneur workshop?
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_01]: That had, I mean, that had to be 2015.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_01]: 16.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_01]: 16.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_01]: I believe it was 2015.
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that flyer for somewhere because I, you know, I was wherever wherever I was like creating and I thought I was a flyer to the other, it was, I was on the road and I don't know who was driving but I, there are, where is this going at, bro?
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_01]: I, so I have that flyer somewhere.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_00]: Was this the first event?
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_00]: This was not the first one.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the first one.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the first one.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_00]: Let me take you to this failure.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_01]: One of my failures, it's just incident.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, we gotta do it though.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this was awful.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what a failed attempt.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_00]: What a failed attempt.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but did we even really attempt?
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm talking about,
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this what this was going down now, this one's going down.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to look at the day y'all.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: If I could give you any additional advice about growth as a business owner, document everything and taking pictures of it and video of it isn't enough to document like actually write some stuff down.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you got a big event or a big happening or something that happened in your business, write some stuff out about it, put a date on it because this data will help you to create future events that you can monetize, but also most importantly, it will be able, oh, I can't believe I didn't say this.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_00]: We document everything.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_00]: So with all of my clients, I have charts on them.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_00]: I can tell you, like I have clients now that have been with me for five years, I can tell you what they did this month, five years ago.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so when they start panicking and they say something like, Donnie, I don't know what's going on.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_00]: We went from, you know, a hundred grand a month, back down to like, 40 grand a month, like it's not working anymore.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is breaking.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say, hey, well, let's just look at this time,
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: and this time three years ago.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_00]: Let's also look at this time two years ago and this time one year ago.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing's breaking, this is your trend.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is in your industry for your business, it's not that you're not growing, it's that we have to optimize and maximize your actual growth season because you will have a time when growth just slows down for you because of who your customer is and what's important to them at that time.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_00]: Document everything so you can find it easily.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's so important.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to add that.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_00]: Were you able to find it?
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_00]: What was the name of the event?
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_01]: The one that I saw that was that was 2021 though.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_00]: What was the name of the event?
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_01]: The one that I'm thinking about, because this wasn't our first.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_01]: This I just saw it.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_01]: It was called...
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_01]: I just saw it.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_01]: What do I go?
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_00]: The one that I showed you was 2018.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_01]: Which one?
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_00]: The picture that I just showed you.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_01]: You just technically saw it.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_00]: No, I just held up my phone to say, was this our first event?
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_00]: When was the Black Wall Street tour?
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_01]: That had to be 20.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, look at how I just picked it up.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that was 2016.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so it was before this, right?
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_01]: This was March.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is me and you.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_01]: Ain't no way, that's you.
- 1:06:08[SPEAKER_01]: Let me see.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_01]: Charles, you're here.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_00]: It was blowing in the wind.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_00]: We were out, so we had just gotten out of the car and we were walking into the school.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'll see you that way.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_00]: Look at you!
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_01]: I look cool.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_00]: We were blowing in the wind.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's it.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_00]: So black was March 2nd 2016.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've been doing it for, I have a flyer from 2019, but it's been since 2016.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, best place to go is Facebook.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we should probably.
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_00]: My Facebook was hacks.
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have it.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_01]: I look.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_01]: We should probably go through this after the podcast.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: And because.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_01]: Because what do we do?
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_01]: They can care less.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_00]: They can care less.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_00]: We don't care so much.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my god.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_00]: Look at us on clubhouse.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_01]: Clubhouse.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we had it.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_00]: We lit on Clubhouse, y'all.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_01]: Clubhouse, bro.
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_00]: We did this episode to, here's our private investor's opportunity.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_00]: Flyer.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, we did good, bro.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_00]: We, listen, we did this episode because we wanted to talk to business owners who need to grow, who are looking to grow, who are making some money and you're wondering why, you are wondering why,
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_00]: you're not growing consistently.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's a real thing.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_00]: But as I am just looking through this journey, I have a David and Donnie folder on my phone.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_00]: I have a David, I'm in the Donnie Embreea, my mama and Donnie, a dazha and Donnie, like anybody who I'm with all the time and who's like significant in my phone, we have our own albums so I can.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's so organized.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_00]: So, but what I want you to hear are all of the iterations of things that we have done.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like we've done so many things together individually and one of the biggest attributing, one of the biggest attributing factors to our growth has been to go out there and try a bunch of stuff until we find one that actually works differently than all the others.
- 1:08:14[SPEAKER_00]: Many of you are multi-talented.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_00]: Many of you have skill sets.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_00]: Many of you are capable of starting multiple businesses but right now today, what can you do at an elite level
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_00]: in audience that you can access right now, whether it's through paid marketing or organic marketing, sometimes you're not growing because you've chosen a lane where you don't have access to enough people or you don't have enough information to be a standout or unicorn in that space.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_00]: David, I'm looking at our journey and we have just, we've tried so much, the author summit, the, that was,
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_00]: we've done so much we've we've we've had masterminds we've done twenty five dollar days we've done twenty five thousand dollar.
- 1:09:03[SPEAKER_01]: We paid the low uh was this card it was called uh or we did the workout thing is like motivation or the the body and the business and body the muscle mindset and money workout.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_00]: Let's run that back that was actually good.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_01]: That was actually really good.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_00]: That was actually good.
- 1:09:16[SPEAKER_00]: The muscle mindset and money
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_00]: boot camp where we got together in a gym like David and I were both on our fitness journey and we got together in the in the gym with my fitness trainer at that time shout out the brie and we got people working out together moving our bodies and then we sat down and just talked business.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_00]: And we should have continued to run that back.
- 1:09:40[SPEAKER_00]: The thing is, in that season, we were trying things.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_00]: And we had to go with the one that fit in that season.
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_01]: That wasn't entrepreneurs exchange in 2018.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_00]: No, that couldn't have been the first.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_01]: I remember this fly, bro.
- 1:09:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I remember that fly.
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think that was the first thing.
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, that couldn't have been the first, because I was still in network marketing when we were doing stuff.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was out there.
- 1:10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Was that 16?
- 1:10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:10:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you were out, right?
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_00]: I was out.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_01]: You were out when we linked, but doing an event, I don't think we did an event immediately.
- 1:10:20[SPEAKER_00]: Because we met in 2015.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_01]: We met in 2015, but it took a little while for us to do events, I think.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here we do the first year.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_01]: No, because look, 2017, remember we went to the breakfast spot on wherever this was.
- 1:10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Thumbs up, yeah, let's go to Thumbs up.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_01]: But we was just chilling.
- 1:10:43[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't really want to get planning.
- 1:10:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, so that was 2017.
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_01]: You were out when?
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_01]: I remember that was our first event, 18.
- 1:10:53[SPEAKER_00]: I was out in 18.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_01]: Then I was our first event.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_01]: It was just like, just got out.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I was in that vacation, Brad, though, that was going to be my My Indian everything I Remember me with a pony tail and I feel like that was the first event I'll find it bro.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_01]: I am on here.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_01]: You hear me this look at that 20 16
- 1:11:25[SPEAKER_01]: I was before, you can't see that right?
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_01]: I was before he had gotten to a little trouble.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_00]: He went to prison, didn't he?
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_01]: He went to prison.
- 1:11:33[SPEAKER_01]: He went to prison.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, somebody wrote an article about us.
- 1:11:40[SPEAKER_00]: Five things I learned at Entrepreneurs Exchange.
- 1:11:42[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, are we going to turn it up, Brad?
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_00]: We got to turn it up.
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we've been doing this for a long time.
- 1:11:51[SPEAKER_00]: For a long time.
- 1:11:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, yes, now it's 26, you know, okay, all right, let's get out of here, man.
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, this is, yeah, if you ever just.
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but you know what I'm also thinking about what we were doing before we did the art event.
- 1:12:10[SPEAKER_00]: We were getting together and doing basically pockets.
- 1:12:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's a fact.
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_00]: And those were, that's where we started.
- 1:12:19[SPEAKER_00]: We were just putting out a bunch of content, recording a bunch of videos.
- 1:12:23[SPEAKER_00]: I can remember the one video, I remember very, very clearly, where Brandon was interviewing us, and we were just sitting in chairs, and Brandon asked us about prostitution being an entrepreneurial adventure, and I'm like, well, you said, yo, Brandon, what are you even talking about?
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, no, I mean, he's right.
- 1:12:48[SPEAKER_00]: If there's self-manages, it's entrepreneurship before, but I can also remember we were standing on a white wall, and I had big curly hair, we both look crazy, and we just had, we were inviting people into the room to just come and ask us questions about like, I remember this, do you remember that?
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I remember shy was there.
- 1:13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we were talking about relationships and business and like just all the things.
- 1:13:15[SPEAKER_00]: We were talking about all the things like we've been doing this for a long time.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_00]: So the bottom line is if you desire to grow, go.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Bar.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_00]: That was good.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_00]: Bar.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going through my Facebook.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is incredible.
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was just still having my Facebook, my original Facebook.
- 1:13:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is absolutely incredible.
- 1:13:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think we, it's 2016.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_00]: Our first event might have been 2018.
- 1:13:41[SPEAKER_00]: Well, our first take it at event, because we were doing things for so long for free.
- 1:13:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_01]: But there's no, we must have not been that close at that time because I'm looking at like a lot of events that I did that you're not on there.
- 1:13:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was more, it was the other rather friend.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_01]: However, that was.
- 1:14:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_00]: Let me.
- 1:14:07[SPEAKER_01]: But any of them.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_00]: So 20 black, black,
- 1:14:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I knew, I guess I knew you all at the same time.
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_01]: This is all we're playing, you know, Omar.
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_00]: But we weren't like that.
- 1:14:25[SPEAKER_00]: We were doing, like we were at the... Not the clubhouse, but what was that building?
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_01]: E-complex.
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_00]: We were at the E-complex, just inviting people in to come in, ask us questions.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to do one?
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Do I want to do one of what?
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, bring the white people in?
- 1:14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, don't we do that?
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, a low workshop.
- 1:14:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 1:14:51[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it.
- 1:14:53[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we could do a low workshop that's like after we go to dinner or something like that.
- 1:14:56[SPEAKER_01]: And the dinner is the VIP and they can buy that.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_00]: I like it.
- 1:15:04[SPEAKER_00]: I like it a lot.
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_01]: And then, like, if you're in social recycle, you get to sit up front.
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_00]: If you're in social food circle, you get to sit up front.
- 1:15:12[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be up here.
- 1:15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we'll be up here situation.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe it's like free for social recycle.
- 1:15:20[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not in the circle, hearing?
- 1:15:25[SPEAKER_00]: Free for you.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, listen, we're out here.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_01]: This episode is dragged on on YouTube.
- 1:15:30[SPEAKER_00]: I am just going to be a 20-brough.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_00]: I am just, I'm literally, okay, here we go.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_00]: And here we go in 2017.
- 1:15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, and this is just albums all you've got.
- 1:15:55[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, you're...
- 1:15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Maddie is the way I suit every day.
- 1:16:00[SPEAKER_00]: Maddie is the way I suit every day.
- 1:16:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's the picture of me, and David, Justin Owens, and Maddie.
