- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, it is just on ten thirty and plenty of
- 0:04Speaker 1: Territorian's favorite time of the week.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I think you'd have to say.
- 0:08Speaker 1: In the studio with us for the big issues, Damien
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hale and Dave Tolder, good morning to you both.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Great to be with you, Katie, Good morning Wolfe and.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Of course the big issues probably by Kolaro Community Association.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Now there has been a lot going on.
- 0:21Speaker 4: Has been in straight up on the tea hat, the
- 0:26Speaker 4: big boys wearing this morning.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Can and it's a Nightcliff Tigers, Nightcliff Tigers.
- 0:33Speaker 4: I went out on the weekend to the AFL and
- 0:37Speaker 4: watch my boy play plays in the I don't know
- 0:40Speaker 4: what they call it, second division s whatever for the
- 0:44Speaker 4: Saints and the Vision.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I think they call it what it is.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It always like the reserve.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Sport. You know, you had a grade B, grade C
- 0:57Speaker 5: and it was pretty easy to follows the ball.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Now they've got you know, in basketball, they don't have
- 1:02Speaker 4: a grade B, grade C grade the first division, second
- 1:05Speaker 4: Vision they have league, and then and then they had.
- 1:08Speaker 5: A Premier League and then like I don't know, I
- 1:12Speaker 5: think he plays in league reserve is it for? Is
- 1:15Speaker 5: that what they call it? There you go.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Anyhow, Yeah, yeah, yeah he did, And I said. The
- 1:23Speaker 4: wonderful thing about it was we sat outside in the
- 1:25Speaker 4: car park. Of course, now I'm a bit prieved about that.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Don't you just pay your money to go in?
- 1:30Speaker 5: No, no, well there's a few issues there. I'll get
- 1:32Speaker 5: to that.
- 1:33Speaker 4: But they really are killing it. Yeah, well that's why
- 1:37Speaker 4: I'm sitting out there with monoculars. You can have a
- 1:39Speaker 4: smoke out there and all of that sort of stuff
- 1:42Speaker 4: in the car park. I mean the meaning you step
- 1:44Speaker 4: on you step.
- 1:46Speaker 5: On a f L ground.
- 1:47Speaker 4: You know, you're subject to all this political correctness and vilification.
- 1:52Speaker 5: It's all in vilification. So you know which it is
- 1:56Speaker 5: not to park?
- 1:57Speaker 3: Were you sitting there?
- 1:58Speaker 4: The one I on the shoot is clib My point
- 2:04Speaker 4: is I pretty well ruined that view. Now they've stuck
- 2:07Speaker 4: another big building in front of most of it.
- 2:09Speaker 5: So you've got to get.
- 2:11Speaker 6: Sit outside with binoculars and see about a third of
- 2:14Speaker 6: the game.
- 2:14Speaker 5: So you you did see the third of the game,
- 2:17Speaker 5: so that which.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Is somewhere you're watching will or Henry.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Well, well, so we'll need to see a third of
- 2:23Speaker 4: the game. I mean, as you know, I'm not a
- 2:24Speaker 4: big AFL fan, but it was my son. We thought
- 2:26Speaker 4: we should go and talk to the coach.
- 2:29Speaker 6: Talk to the coach about getting willed just to continually play.
- 2:32Speaker 6: In that third you can watch the which way they're going,
- 2:35Speaker 6: so then you can at least watch him play.
- 2:36Speaker 4: I got to say, it was a bit hard to
- 2:38Speaker 4: pick up between they steal bars here, they've fencer place
- 2:41Speaker 4: off with and they've got they've got fencing around the
- 2:44Speaker 4: oval there, and then there's all these other jokers warming
- 2:48Speaker 4: up for the next game.
- 2:49Speaker 5: Of course, you know, so you do miss a lot
- 2:51Speaker 5: when you sit in the car park.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I tell you what you would.
- 2:54Speaker 5: But at least you can relax in the car park.
- 2:57Speaker 6: And some people say that watching div too, and you
- 3:00Speaker 6: see a third of the game is quite good.
- 3:04Speaker 3: All the game.
- 3:07Speaker 7: Down.
- 3:07Speaker 5: His and all the others always said.
- 3:10Speaker 3: About to doesn't need rain.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Just to talk up mind boys. You know, they said, oh,
- 3:16Speaker 4: he's a boys, you don't play.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I like you boys more than I like you David.
- 3:22Speaker 4: So he's got this motto he says that you don't
- 3:24Speaker 4: play unless you're trained. It'll be hard to well with
- 3:29Speaker 4: some of them. We got just his natural ability that
- 3:34Speaker 4: precludes him from training.
- 3:35Speaker 2: You got to try, you've got to put in that.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I grew up very much on the same you know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: the same train, obviously, Haley is what you've got the
- 3:43Speaker 1: boys on.
- 3:45Speaker 7: Brother what I never got, never got absolutely that we've
- 3:53Speaker 7: gone very off track.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Well and I will will hang on. No one of
- 3:57Speaker 1: my brothers got beaten. One of them got beaten in
- 3:59Speaker 1: the in one of their games, but then the other
- 4:01Speaker 1: one one in the Super League over in the UK. No,
- 4:08Speaker 1: he was the winner the Tweed Seagulls.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Years ago, very much.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Christians close to get the n r L gig.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Surely, well, let's wait and see for the.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Well the next coach of the Redcliffe Pips tell you what.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Let's actually get into the big issues.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Now that we've spoken about footy, which I always enjoyed,
- 4:41Speaker 1: enjoyed looking about issues I do enjoy talking about the
- 4:44Speaker 1: footing and speaking of we know actually that the a
- 4:47Speaker 1: f L nationally they are going to be mandating the vaccine.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm not sure if you've seen that and what your.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Thoughts are on that sort of race in rugby union
- 4:56Speaker 4: to see it can be the wokest.
- 4:57Speaker 5: I think.
- 5:01Speaker 4: You've got blokes playing in the women's comp and all
- 5:06Speaker 4: Dave you'll be playing they get they get reviews done
- 5:09Speaker 4: on to see if they're racist, and of course made
- 5:13Speaker 4: out about it.
- 5:13Speaker 7: They are.
- 5:14Speaker 6: There's no blokes playing in the women's comp.
- 5:20Speaker 2: The nr L.
- 5:22Speaker 1: The NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo says that players will
- 5:26Speaker 1: not be mandated to have the COVID nineteen vaccine, but
- 5:30Speaker 1: was a but worn down. Vaccinated players would be subject
- 5:33Speaker 1: to more stringent protocols.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Are we moving towards this?
- 5:36Speaker 7: I mean, like.
- 5:38Speaker 4: The fittest people under the sun and they told that
- 5:42Speaker 4: they have to go enforcibly have some sort of vaccination.
- 5:44Speaker 5: You know, totalitarianism again in the n r L. You
- 5:50Speaker 5: know there's got to be a bit of freedom somewhere.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Apparently, do you reckon?
- 5:53Speaker 6: The unvaccinated players will probably end up in the car
- 5:56Speaker 6: park with.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Park grounds to coffee in the morning.
- 6:03Speaker 6: They're saying that possibly they've just got to be double
- 6:05Speaker 6: double vax to go to the football. So if you
- 6:08Speaker 6: decide to not be double vaxed, or you're against vaccination.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Or you've had too much coughs here up that morning,
- 6:13Speaker 4: you might have expelled.
- 6:15Speaker 7: Well.
- 6:16Speaker 1: We spoke to Sean Bowden yesterday on the show and
- 6:19Speaker 1: he actually said that here in the Northern Territory, they're
- 6:21Speaker 1: taking a bit of a different approach, and that is
- 6:23Speaker 1: working with the different clubs talking you know, obviously meeting
- 6:26Speaker 1: with the presidents as well, and going with that more
- 6:29Speaker 1: education approach, getting some of those better known players out
- 6:32Speaker 1: into the communities and that kind of thing too.
- 6:34Speaker 6: Well, the clubs struggle to get players to do their
- 6:37Speaker 6: registration forms, so you're all volunteers trying to get them
- 6:41Speaker 6: to register or trying to get them to be there
- 6:42Speaker 6: an hour before the game or get to a team meeting.
- 6:45Speaker 6: So you know, good luck policing that. It was like
- 6:47Speaker 6: somebody once suggested we might have to bring in drug testing.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Well that wipes out you be great.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Straight up on a few people say you wouldn't have
- 6:56Speaker 5: a Rugby League.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Camp now not you to hey with this vaccine stuff though,
- 7:03Speaker 1: like when you're talking about then in the Northern Territory,
- 7:06Speaker 1: obviously we've moved towards, you know, mandating the vaccine. I
- 7:10Speaker 1: think we spoke about this last week, mandating the vaccine
- 7:13Speaker 1: for specific workplaces. But we also spoke to the Chief
- 7:16Speaker 1: Minister Michael Gunner yesterday about these plans that they've now
- 7:20Speaker 1: got in place when it comes to people applying for
- 7:24Speaker 1: different you know whether they're applying for different tenders or
- 7:27Speaker 1: whether they are applying for contracts as well. And he
- 7:31Speaker 1: had said that if you are going for a tender
- 7:33Speaker 1: or a contract, a Northern Territory government funded one, that
- 7:36Speaker 1: your workforce is going to be have to be one
- 7:39Speaker 1: hundred percent vaccinated or you won't be eligible. And potentially, well,
- 7:44Speaker 1: do you want to hear it?
- 7:46Speaker 3: Have you missed it?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Let's have a listen to what the chiefment. Let's have
- 7:51Speaker 2: a listen he had to say yesterday, Take a listen.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Was reported on the weekend that the government's vaccine mandate
- 7:58Speaker 1: is set to expand to anybody want to apply for
- 8:00Speaker 1: a government grant or contract. Those businesses will have to
- 8:04Speaker 1: have their entire workforce double vaccinated.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Chief Finister, how is this going to work?
- 8:09Speaker 8: We're obviously a pro vax government will simply make it
- 8:11Speaker 8: a condition of any contract people win that they have
- 8:14Speaker 8: to have a fully vaccinated workforce. So we're doing the
- 8:16Speaker 8: legal work now, so we'll absously have a proper announcement
- 8:18Speaker 8: and release this all soon. Essentially, we're saying, if you
- 8:21Speaker 8: want a tender for government work, you want to do
- 8:22Speaker 8: work for government, where are provax government.
- 8:24Speaker 9: You have to have a fully dosed workforce.
- 8:25Speaker 2: So one hundred percent vaccination rate.
- 8:27Speaker 9: Yeah, if you want to government dollar vvaccinated.
- 8:29Speaker 1: What's going to happen with the businesses who've already got contracts?
- 8:32Speaker 2: Is it retrospective?
- 8:33Speaker 1: So if a company has already been a watered to tender,
- 8:36Speaker 1: if their workforce hasn't been one hundred percent vaccinated, will
- 8:39Speaker 1: they be penalized or have their contract canceled if they
- 8:42Speaker 1: don't comply.
- 8:43Speaker 9: This applies to all future contracts.
- 8:44Speaker 8: Anyone who's already got a contract, We're writing to all
- 8:47Speaker 8: of them reminding them of their need to meet the
- 8:51Speaker 8: current Chow direction that we release about manatory vaccinations for
- 8:54Speaker 8: workers in vulnerable settings.
- 8:55Speaker 9: So that's happening.
- 8:56Speaker 8: So anyone who's already got a contract, the Chow direction
- 8:58Speaker 8: obviously applies to you. For any future contract. We simply
- 9:01Speaker 8: saying be double dose.
- 9:02Speaker 1: So that was the Chief Minister Michael Gunner on the
- 9:04Speaker 1: show yesterday. We've now learned in the paper today and
- 9:07Speaker 1: the inter news that businesses is apparently going to face
- 9:10Speaker 1: a twenty five thousand dollars fine if those staff, if
- 9:15Speaker 1: their workforces are not fully vaccinated. We know that that's
- 9:19Speaker 1: the case. Well, sorry, that's actually the case with you know,
- 9:22Speaker 1: with various different businesses around the place. But then when
- 9:26Speaker 1: you're talking about those tenders, I don't think we know
- 9:28Speaker 1: exactly what the fine's going to be at this point, or.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Whether they just won't be able to win a contract.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Well, i'll tell you what.
- 9:34Speaker 4: You've got to give it to Michael Gunner. His commitment
- 9:36Speaker 4: to economic ruin, I think is beyond anyone's expectation. You know,
- 9:43Speaker 4: he's solidly committed to screw in our economy completely. I
- 9:48Speaker 4: wonder whether you're going to start publishing and shaming nurses
- 9:53Speaker 4: and police and teachers.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Who don't get vaxed.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Maybe we can have their pictures in the paper, call
- 10:01Speaker 4: them all sorts of named idiots and that sort of stuff,
- 10:04Speaker 4: and shut down all those businesses too that don't agree
- 10:07Speaker 4: with him. You know, it really is on a path
- 10:09Speaker 4: to economic ruin. You wouldn't think that we've got a
- 10:12Speaker 4: nine billion dollar debt and you're trying to encourage private enterprise,
- 10:16Speaker 4: would you in a climate.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Like this, Haley, what are your thoughts on this?
- 10:20Speaker 6: On this situation, I just marvel at David. I just
- 10:24Speaker 6: sit here and I just marvel at the great man. Look,
- 10:27Speaker 6: the thing is that it's funny how we've had all
- 10:29Speaker 6: this argument about vaccine and the anti vaxes I think,
- 10:36Speaker 6: and getting on ninety six percent of eligible people or something.
- 10:41Speaker 3: So for all the kicking and.
- 10:43Speaker 6: Screaming, Australians generally across the board get vaccinated.
- 10:48Speaker 5: And but we're going to sack them the dart.
- 10:51Speaker 6: And so you can argue that it's a vaccination by
- 10:54Speaker 6: you can argue that it is vaccination by stealth.
- 10:57Speaker 5: Don't give them contract.
- 10:58Speaker 6: At the end of the day, people are going to
- 11:00Speaker 6: end up getting vaccinated anyway. So we have this debate
- 11:03Speaker 6: about all sorts of stuff and then in the end
- 11:05Speaker 6: people conform.
- 11:06Speaker 3: We're a bit of a conformist community.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Well, I think the Chief Minister said yesterday on the
- 11:10Speaker 2: show as well.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Ninety one percent of Darwin, those in the City of
- 11:15Speaker 1: Darwin municipality at the moment have had their first vax.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Still obviously need to get there for the second vax.
- 11:21Speaker 1: But it's all part then of the announcement that he'd
- 11:24Speaker 1: made about home quarantine and moving towards home quarantine. But
- 11:29Speaker 1: we've seen in Queensland, also in Victoria, New South Wales,
- 11:33Speaker 1: obviously Tasmania as well. They are moving towards opening up,
- 11:38Speaker 1: and they've given specific dates. We're certainly taking a much
- 11:41Speaker 1: more cautious approach. How is that going to impact business?
- 11:45Speaker 1: Do you reckon, Dave?
- 11:46Speaker 4: Well, look, business is struggling anyhow. The problem with the
- 11:51Speaker 4: Northern Territory, there's a myriad of problems. You know, at
- 11:53Speaker 4: the moment, we got this thing banging on to end
- 11:55Speaker 4: the zero pay or the you know, no more zero
- 12:01Speaker 4: pay increases in the public so oh yep, and you
- 12:05Speaker 4: sort of sit there and you go like, there's financial
- 12:08Speaker 4: pressures everywhere. And in the middle of all that, you're
- 12:10Speaker 4: going to start sacking teachers, sacking nurses, sacking policemen because
- 12:15Speaker 4: they've got some conscientious objection to being vaxed. You're going
- 12:19Speaker 4: to start winding up businesses that rely on government contracts
- 12:24Speaker 4: because they can't.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Get all of their staff vexed.
- 12:26Speaker 4: As it crossed Michael Gunner's mind that you know in
- 12:29Speaker 4: remote areas, says there's a commitment most business have to
- 12:33Speaker 4: employ twenty percent indigenous labor. You know, people in indigenous
- 12:38Speaker 4: communities are extraordinarily reluctant to get vaccinated. Well, in some
- 12:43Speaker 4: that's right, So how does that impact on those businesses
- 12:46Speaker 4: that are trying to do the right thing employ Indigenous
- 12:50Speaker 4: people when they can't guarantee that all their employees are
- 12:52Speaker 4: going to be vaxed. I mean, it's just wrong. So
- 12:54Speaker 4: those businesses now no longer get government work. You know,
- 12:57Speaker 4: does Michael going to think these things through or is
- 13:00Speaker 4: it just I don't know. I got to say, Katie,
- 13:03Speaker 4: I was really stunned. I saw the pictures. I haven't
- 13:06Speaker 4: seen any of the vision of Cause for the protests,
- 13:09Speaker 4: these people weekends protesting freedom, but I did see the
- 13:12Speaker 4: pictures in the newspaper today. I was blown away, one
- 13:15Speaker 4: at the size of the crowds, and two at the
- 13:17Speaker 4: size of message, at the type of messaging, because most
- 13:20Speaker 4: people in those griefs were saying, look, we've been vaccinated,
- 13:24Speaker 4: you know, we've we've been vaccinated, but we don't believe
- 13:27Speaker 4: it should be mandatory. You know, that is just a
- 13:30Speaker 4: complete encouragement on people's freedoms. And as Damian says, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 4: it's only a small minority of people who are refusing
- 13:37Speaker 4: to get vaccinated, so who cares?
- 13:40Speaker 2: You know, who can?
- 13:41Speaker 1: And this is I guess, is this the point that
- 13:43Speaker 1: we're at where you just you know, we do need
- 13:45Speaker 1: to buy the bullet and open up.
- 13:47Speaker 6: And I think that you know, they're talking about opening
- 13:50Speaker 6: up a bubble to Barley, which I'm very interested in
- 13:54Speaker 6: the quarantine and quarantine and I'm double vaxed anyway.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is where I think a lot of
- 14:01Speaker 2: people are starting.
- 14:02Speaker 4: A You told me something earlier this morning about this
- 14:05Speaker 4: coming in that you know, people be able to travel
- 14:08Speaker 4: and you'll be able to home quarantine, but there's a
- 14:11Speaker 4: requirement for testing priorit.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Yes, so you've got to have seven tests. Sorry, I
- 14:16Speaker 1: was thinking, what did I tell you earlier this morning?
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yest.
- 14:18Speaker 1: So essentially we're obviously moving towards home quarantining, but to
- 14:22Speaker 1: begin with, this trial is now underway for two replication periods,
- 14:26Speaker 1: and within this trial you have to have a test
- 14:30Speaker 1: before you enter the Northern territory and it needs to
- 14:33Speaker 1: come back negative, so seventy two hours before you enter
- 14:35Speaker 1: the Northern territory. You then need to have an additional
- 14:38Speaker 1: six tests over that two week period while you're in
- 14:42Speaker 1: home quarantine. So that is during this trial period we
- 14:46Speaker 1: then move into the fourteen days hopefully for all territories,
- 14:49Speaker 1: where you will still be required to really undergo this
- 14:52Speaker 1: pretty rigorous testing. Even when we get to the seven
- 14:55Speaker 1: days home quarantining, and even the Chief Minister had flagged
- 14:59Speaker 1: yesterday when we have no quarantine period, we're still going
- 15:03Speaker 1: to require this very vigorous testing.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I mean seven like, it's a lot of tests.
- 15:07Speaker 6: That is a lot of Also, if you look at
- 15:11Speaker 6: the delta variants, throwing a curveball at everyone, so in
- 15:15Speaker 6: places say Moscow for instance, I was reading online the
- 15:18Speaker 6: other night they're having twelve hundred deaths a day and
- 15:21Speaker 6: they've gone into a total shutdown again till they're tipping
- 15:24Speaker 6: till about February.
- 15:25Speaker 2: No fly vaccinated.
- 15:27Speaker 6: No, they've got low vaccination rates, but they're still you know,
- 15:31Speaker 6: they're trying to get vaccination rates up. But everyone's now
- 15:35Speaker 6: gone into lockdown until February March.
- 15:38Speaker 5: That one twelve.
- 15:40Speaker 6: Hundred deaths a day and they're going into the middle
- 15:42Speaker 6: of their winter so in the northern hemisphere, so it's
- 15:46Speaker 6: a really danger danger period for them. So the delta variant,
- 15:49Speaker 6: I think nothing's changed in Australia and nothing's changed here
- 15:53Speaker 6: in the territory in regards.
- 15:54Speaker 3: To vulnerable populations.
- 15:56Speaker 6: And as we saw with the two guys that forged
- 15:59Speaker 6: their through here that have ended up in a Western
- 16:02Speaker 6: Australian jail of the Melbourne Demus and demon supporters. They
- 16:07Speaker 6: came out of a hot spot into the Northern Territory
- 16:10Speaker 6: and then went to Way. Now at any time they
- 16:13Speaker 6: could have come in contact, they could have bought the
- 16:15Speaker 6: COVID nine en virus here and coming to contact with
- 16:20Speaker 6: the indigenous population.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Well, so though, what has changed is our vaccination rates,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and that's what we keep being told, you know.
- 16:27Speaker 2: The remote community, No, not in all remote.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Communities, but you know when you talk about those vax rates,
- 16:32Speaker 1: we've been getting told now for such a long period
- 16:34Speaker 1: of time that if you are double dose vaccinated, that
- 16:36Speaker 1: your freedoms are going to be greater, and that you know,
- 16:39Speaker 1: we're going to be able to do more. And I
- 16:41Speaker 1: think that that's where some people are feeling frustrated at
- 16:43Speaker 1: this point. Well they're going, well, hang on a second,
- 16:45Speaker 1: I have been double vaccinated. I want to go home
- 16:48Speaker 1: to see or I want my family to come and
- 16:50Speaker 1: see me at Christmas time.
- 16:51Speaker 2: They're not going to be able to advice.
- 16:54Speaker 4: So in most countries on the face of this planet
- 16:57Speaker 4: have opened up their economies at their countries to international travelers,
- 17:03Speaker 4: none of them have mandatory vaccination policies. You know, the
- 17:08Speaker 4: west of the world is getting on with it. Here
- 17:11Speaker 4: in the Northern Territory, we've got I don't know that
- 17:14Speaker 4: we've ever had well, we've had no deaths at all.
- 17:18Speaker 4: I don't know how many active cases we've ever had.
- 17:21Speaker 4: But it's got to be one of the one of
- 17:22Speaker 4: the least affected places on the face of the earth.
- 17:26Speaker 4: And yet you know we've got to go through all
- 17:29Speaker 4: these weird measures in order to get on a plane
- 17:32Speaker 4: and come back. It's just crazy stuff.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Well it is.
- 17:37Speaker 1: It is certainly going to be interesting to see how
- 17:40Speaker 1: the coming weeks do.
- 17:42Speaker 4: I don't know how winding up businesses and sacking public
- 17:46Speaker 4: servants is going to help the situation somehow, really I don't.
- 17:50Speaker 4: And having thousands and thousands of people marching on the
- 17:53Speaker 4: street because of some sort of power trip that the
- 17:58Speaker 4: Chief Minister's on is just to me completely amazed.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Well, let's move along, because another interesting scenario that the
- 18:04Speaker 1: three of us have spoken about for quite a long
- 18:07Speaker 1: period of time is this when it comes to the
- 18:10Speaker 1: impacts of a twenty fifty net zero emissions target, and
- 18:14Speaker 1: according to the Australian newspaper today. The Productivity Commission is
- 18:18Speaker 1: going to conduct five year reviews assessing the economic impacts
- 18:22Speaker 1: of the twenty fifty net zero emissions target on regional
- 18:25Speaker 1: and rural communities under a climate change safeguard mechanism adopted
- 18:30Speaker 1: by the Cabinet on Monday night. Now, The Australian has
- 18:34Speaker 1: revealed that Scott Morrison and the Nationals agreed on a
- 18:36Speaker 1: permanent review process, with the first assessment to be delivered
- 18:40Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three, under a key plank of the deal,
- 18:44Speaker 1: which was struck by the junior coalition partner on the
- 18:47Speaker 1: government's long term emissions reduction strategy. The Prime Minister's told
- 18:50Speaker 1: The Australian that the five yearly review would provide transparency
- 18:54Speaker 1: and accountability to the net zero plan that he intended
- 18:57Speaker 1: to take to the Glasgow un Climate Change Summit next week,
- 19:01Speaker 1: and provide reassurance to regional and rural communities.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Does it go far enough?
- 19:08Speaker 5: Let me tell you. Harley is all over.
- 19:10Speaker 2: The he's all over.
- 19:12Speaker 3: He's got worked it out.
- 19:13Speaker 1: He looks extra smart because he put his glasses the
- 19:16Speaker 1: work view till the cows come home.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Just let him do it.
- 19:20Speaker 3: No, I've just I'm just absolutely.
- 19:22Speaker 6: I'm absolutely in awe of the right wing of Australian politics,
- 19:26Speaker 6: and I'm in awe of them.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I saw Twiggy Forests this morning.
- 19:31Speaker 5: Talking about you can call Triggy wait.
- 19:34Speaker 3: The same people that campaigned against the ets.
- 19:37Speaker 6: The same people that campaigned against them tax on mining,
- 19:40Speaker 6: the same those same people against the Paris climate change
- 19:47Speaker 6: protocols and the targets in Paris. They're now out there
- 19:52Speaker 6: spooking the need to get to that zero. The Chamber
- 19:55Speaker 6: of Commerce nationally, the Australian Farmers Federation, they're all on board.
- 19:59Speaker 6: Twiggi's on board. I haven't heard much from Gina, but
- 20:01Speaker 6: I'm sure she's on board. And it might have just
- 20:03Speaker 6: coincided with the Murdock papers coming out and announcing that.
- 20:07Speaker 3: They're on board.
- 20:08Speaker 6: And ever since then there's some tree huggers in the
- 20:12Speaker 6: in the right that I reckon. There's a whole heap
- 20:14Speaker 6: of them that are a chance of getting the Bob
- 20:16Speaker 6: Brown Greeny.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Of the year or they're all into it. They're all
- 20:20Speaker 3: on board now, Daves.
- 20:23Speaker 4: He's pretty right. It's Sydney. It's like watching Lemmons go
- 20:27Speaker 4: over Cliff.
- 20:30Speaker 3: I said the day you're the last voice of reason
- 20:33Speaker 3: in the.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Left.
- 20:39Speaker 3: They've deserted the industry.
- 20:42Speaker 4: You know, there's there's something that people have forgotten about,
- 20:45Speaker 4: and that's what they call the silent majority. And this
- 20:48Speaker 4: is the people who put governments in and out of
- 20:51Speaker 4: office and you know, hit Bill Short and Fair in.
- 20:54Speaker 5: The face at the last election.
- 20:58Speaker 4: There's a whole swag of them that the majority has
- 21:01Speaker 4: hurt near crippled, and it seems that they've forgotten who
- 21:04Speaker 4: they are again. You know who I remember Scott Morrison
- 21:08Speaker 4: talking about, oh, you know, I'm here to represent the
- 21:11Speaker 4: syl and Australians. You know the ones that well where
- 21:14Speaker 4: are they now? Like, where is he representing them? You
- 21:17Speaker 4: sort of really wonder. Read today's newspaper in the business section,
- 21:21Speaker 4: Terry mccran's written an article, very good article, summing all
- 21:26Speaker 4: this up adequately. But you know, like I say, it's
- 21:29Speaker 4: like watching Lemmings marching over a cliff.
- 21:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 6: I was stunned when the News limited, Like a lot
- 21:36Speaker 6: of people, we're thinking we're having we're going to have
- 21:38Speaker 6: this war again on climate change and suddenly News have
- 21:41Speaker 6: just did a big lurch to the left, where on
- 21:44Speaker 6: board with zero and then ever since then there's a
- 21:47Speaker 6: heap of traditionally industry groups that would be against dramatic
- 21:54Speaker 6: changes to the energy mix. Or they've always defended the
- 21:57Speaker 6: fossil fuel lobbies and obbed for the fossil fuel companies
- 22:01Speaker 6: and now suddenly they're just deserve trans.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Me But you know, like that's all anybody talks about,
- 22:07Speaker 4: Like climate change, fossil fuels are inextricably linked to the
- 22:11Speaker 4: As far as these people concerned, they can't see any
- 22:13Speaker 4: future with fossil fuel use. You know, it's really quite sad,
- 22:20Speaker 4: and you know we just seem to be heading for poverty.
- 22:25Speaker 4: You know, these policies are going to make Australia energy poor.
- 22:30Speaker 4: They're going to wind up most of our industries. But
- 22:33Speaker 4: like I say, we're marching like lemmings over a cliff.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Well, Twiggy was talking about the brain chief nutcases.
- 22:40Speaker 4: I mean, you can call Twiggy Forest a right winger
- 22:46Speaker 4: for goodness sake, just because he owned a super tax
- 22:48Speaker 4: on mining company. He opposed a super tax on mining companies.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Vigorous in support of climate change, or just was stunned
- 22:56Speaker 6: to see him talking about net zero and the need
- 22:59Speaker 6: to and the way that this will invigorate manufacturing in Australia,
- 23:04Speaker 6: whereas Dave's saying that it will destroyed.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you what.
- 23:09Speaker 1: We've run out of time again heading back to the
- 23:12Speaker 1: footy this weekend to park outside.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, like I said, it's probably the first time
- 23:17Speaker 4: I've done it in a couple of years, first game
- 23:19Speaker 4: I've been down to in a couple of years and
- 23:21Speaker 4: we found it quite relaxing, So it might do it again.
- 23:24Speaker 6: I think that there's something in that, and I reckon
- 23:26Speaker 6: that we might set up a marquee out in the
- 23:28Speaker 6: car park for all those people that want to sit
- 23:30Speaker 6: with Dave and.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Have a casual and you get a strength beer out there.
- 23:38Speaker 6: You can't get a full strength beer in the ground,
- 23:40Speaker 6: but you can get one out at Dave's.
- 23:41Speaker 5: We're talking any we're taking a sky of cold water.
- 23:47Speaker 6: There's binoculars, you don't have to wear a mask and
- 23:49Speaker 6: you don't have to be double vaxed, so you.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Can yell out as much as you like.
- 23:59Speaker 2: It is always had something to turn it up and.
- 24:01Speaker 5: Tapping her on the shoulder.
- 24:04Speaker 3: A third of the game's side actually have to read
- 24:07Speaker 3: the paper. Read the kid.
- 24:10Speaker 5: A mate I turned up at the game. It happened
- 24:14Speaker 5: that's exactly.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I feel really bad.
- 24:16Speaker 6: I actually went into the war Retars on Sunday and
- 24:20Speaker 6: supported my son coaching.
- 24:22Speaker 3: But I was inside the ground. I could see a
- 24:23Speaker 3: hundred percent of the future.
- 24:25Speaker 6: He's coaching the Div one in the for war Retars
- 24:28Speaker 6: and assistant coach in the Premier League.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Excellent, good stuff.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Put it on.
- 24:36Speaker 4: I went to the Eels game Miller in the year
- 24:38Speaker 4: and took a little crew of us out there, and
- 24:42Speaker 4: we get out there. There's got to be a kilometer
- 24:44Speaker 4: long wait at the turnstiles to get through the day,
- 24:48Speaker 4: and we just sort of stuff this and we went
- 24:50Speaker 4: straight into the Saint Mary's Club, sat in the air con,
- 24:53Speaker 4: watched the game on the watched the game on the television,
- 24:57Speaker 4: and I had a few drinks in the Saints Club.
- 24:59Speaker 5: You know, a selection that we know, a selection of.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Drinks, course responsibly.
- 25:04Speaker 4: And then at halftime we thought, oh stuff it. We
- 25:06Speaker 4: got tickets, we might go in the lines. Gone went
- 25:10Speaker 4: in there and we sat there. I mean that you're
- 25:12Speaker 4: so far away from the game in that stadium. Went
- 25:15Speaker 4: with the rugby league game.
- 25:16Speaker 2: It's all about the atmosphere though, the atmosphere.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Then the kids came back with alcoholic iced tea.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Can you believe that the Saints club drinking responsibly? We
- 25:31Speaker 2: are going to have to wrap up. Don't tell her
- 25:33Speaker 2: to thank you both for your time this morning.
- 25:35Speaker 1: That was the Big Issues brought to you by Kolado
- 25:38Speaker 1: Community Association or MIX.
