- 0:00Speaker 1: Week days fweet A seven pm. It's a flash drive
- 0:04Speaker 1: with Carl and we see on KFM ninety four point five.
- 0:08Speaker 2: So I did promise you a chat with one of
- 0:10Speaker 2: my besties. He's come through all the way from his
- 0:13Speaker 2: place is warm place, it's warm home, just to come
- 0:16Speaker 2: and chat to you in Cape Town.
- 0:17Speaker 3: What is up? Jesse Kleig is here? What's up? Brother?
- 0:20Speaker 4: Thank you for having me? And Joeberg is much colder
- 0:22Speaker 4: than Cape Ton. I can tell you now it's not
- 0:24Speaker 4: that warm in my home.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Is it not? OK, it's very cold. Well, there we go.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I'm going to war. Was pleasantly surprised when I landed
- 0:31Speaker 3: in Cape Town. That's good.
- 0:32Speaker 2: You chose a great day for you to bring a song. Well,
- 0:36Speaker 2: not has a song, but I think a project that
- 0:38Speaker 2: is part of the phrase to be coined together. When
- 0:41Speaker 2: one of our first chats, when I said, it's the legacy,
- 0:44Speaker 2: and the legacy lives on with something very very important.
- 0:47Speaker 2: But first, how are you, my friend? I'm good man.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I'm I've been very busy, been traveling a lot, and yeah,
- 0:54Speaker 4: I'm in the middle of multiple robots for some for
- 0:59Speaker 4: a very special project.
- 1:00Speaker 3: So I'm grateful to be here. To to share this.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yes, so the project is the Scatterling's Project, and we
- 1:08Speaker 2: need to go because I already had a conversation with
- 1:10Speaker 2: one of the contributors for a Simbonnanga song, which is
- 1:14Speaker 2: Jay something, and he was I've never ever heard Jay
- 1:19Speaker 2: chat about music that way. He said, he was, he
- 1:22Speaker 2: was taken, he was taken aback by. He was like,
- 1:25Speaker 2: I can't believe I was asked to do this, Like,
- 1:27Speaker 2: I can't believe I was part of this. And and
- 1:28Speaker 2: I think someone like Jay, you expect someone has established
- 1:32Speaker 2: like that to never have the feeling of like a
- 1:35Speaker 2: giddy child who's just got a new toy. But that's
- 1:37Speaker 2: exactly what happened. And it was so great to chat
- 1:40Speaker 2: him about it. But let's go to the beginning. Yeah,
- 1:42Speaker 2: the inception of the Scatterling's Project. I want to know
- 1:45Speaker 2: when it all happened. When you got around a table
- 1:48Speaker 2: and said let's do this thing.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Yeah, it was actually me and Msuki, you know, I mean,
- 1:52Speaker 4: I think after my father passed. You know, it was
- 1:56Speaker 4: something about when someone when you lose someone, you you
- 1:59Speaker 4: have this instant that you want to celebrate them and
- 2:01Speaker 4: you want to you want to resurrect something of their
- 2:03Speaker 4: memory and their their essence. And so the feeling has
- 2:07Speaker 4: been with me for a long time. And me and
- 2:09Speaker 4: Imsuki have been working together for several years now and
- 2:12Speaker 4: she's she's like family to me. And we were literally
- 2:15Speaker 4: having coffee one day and we thought, how can.
- 2:18Speaker 3: We bring this music back?
- 2:22Speaker 4: And and the idea was, let's go and talk to
- 2:25Speaker 4: all our friends, the people that we respect in the industry,
- 2:28Speaker 4: all top level artists in different genres, and let's give
- 2:32Speaker 4: them the opportunity to choose a song of my father's
- 2:35Speaker 4: from his catalog, any song that they want, and the
- 2:37Speaker 4: only criteria is that it has to be a song
- 2:39Speaker 4: that they truly love and that has influenced their art
- 2:43Speaker 4: and their their their truth as an artist.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Wow. So we just started doing that.
- 2:47Speaker 4: We just like went to Zekespontwini, we went to Sonel,
- 2:51Speaker 4: we went to Beetenberg, Semi Sjava, Jabuli La Majola, you
- 2:59Speaker 4: know people that we we loved and that we knew
- 3:01Speaker 4: loved my father. And we just said, choose a song
- 3:05Speaker 4: and we'll give you the original stems. You can have
- 3:07Speaker 4: at it, make it something of your own.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Wow.
- 3:10Speaker 4: And I think the concept was really to have a
- 3:12Speaker 4: celebration of music that was so important to South Africa
- 3:16Speaker 4: a very particular time in history and talks about tells
- 3:19Speaker 4: the story of South Africa means something to us generationally.
- 3:24Speaker 4: And to have artists from today who have created their
- 3:27Speaker 4: own cultural space and you are creating in this moment
- 3:30Speaker 4: in South Africa to try and work out what those
- 3:32Speaker 4: songs mean today for current South Africans. We all know
- 3:35Speaker 4: those songs and they all had a resonance in society
- 3:37Speaker 4: at that moment. But we're in a new moment in
- 3:39Speaker 4: South Africa and there's some amazing artists and creatives and
- 3:42Speaker 4: what does this music mean right now? How do we
- 3:44Speaker 4: bring it to a new generation, let it have a
- 3:47Speaker 4: new resonance with people. So that was the inspiration, man,
- 3:51Speaker 4: and it's been such an incredible journey to just firstly
- 3:56Speaker 4: feel the reverence that the artists have for this music
- 3:59Speaker 4: and all the story that they brought of how this
- 4:01Speaker 4: music has reached their lives. And then to also just hear,
- 4:05Speaker 4: like to hear like Zake's doing, like an afrotech version
- 4:09Speaker 4: of Ossierza the Crossing, you know, to hear all these
- 4:11Speaker 4: new versions of the songs, to hear these new life
- 4:14Speaker 4: being breathed into this music has just been such an
- 4:17Speaker 4: amazing adventure man, And shout out to the artists. I mean,
- 4:20Speaker 4: Jay did such a beautiful job with U Simpnoga right.
- 4:24Speaker 2: You know what I loved about the chat I had
- 4:25Speaker 2: with Jay about it is that he looked at the
- 4:27Speaker 2: song and its meaning and where it was dropped, and
- 4:29Speaker 2: then he said that the other there are certain levels
- 4:31Speaker 2: of oppression that we are still under right now, and
- 4:34Speaker 2: it's still very real. It doesn't mean that the times
- 4:37Speaker 2: are different, that those narratives in those songs are not
- 4:41Speaker 2: applicable to some of these things that we are dealing
- 4:43Speaker 2: with right now.
- 4:44Speaker 3: And what I loved is.
- 4:45Speaker 2: The fact that the impetus behind it, it was just
- 4:49Speaker 2: it was so beautiful, honestly to hear every artist over here,
- 4:53Speaker 2: like like Jay saying, that's how I made it my
- 4:55Speaker 2: own I looked at my own life and I said,
- 4:58Speaker 2: what would this if I was back then?
- 5:00Speaker 3: What would it mean to me? And now what does
- 5:01Speaker 3: it mean to me?
- 5:02Speaker 2: And now let's start, yeah, you know, getting melody and going,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and it was just, oh, it is so beautiful honestly.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think, you know, I think when
- 5:10Speaker 4: you when you realize like, what a creative explosion we're
- 5:14Speaker 4: in at the moment with South African music, Like there's
- 5:16Speaker 4: new genres being invented that only exists in this country,
- 5:20Speaker 4: you know, nowhere else in the world. I think that
- 5:23Speaker 4: my dad would have been so proud that his music
- 5:26Speaker 4: has is still so relevant to these artists and that
- 5:29Speaker 4: they've had a chance to like bring their own artistry
- 5:32Speaker 4: to songs that have made them artists, you know, some
- 5:35Speaker 4: of these artists, you know. I spoke to Trezor, who
- 5:37Speaker 4: did Cool Crazy Beautiful World on this album, and he
- 5:40Speaker 4: told me that he used to play cool Crazy when
- 5:44Speaker 4: he was a teenager in the Congo in his first band,
- 5:47Speaker 4: Like he's he's already He was like, bro, I.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Can do this song. I've been playing it my whole life,
- 5:51Speaker 3: you know.
- 5:52Speaker 4: And it's just so beautiful to hear those stories because
- 5:54Speaker 4: they say, yeah, they've grown up with this music, and I,
- 5:57Speaker 4: you know, I've obviously grown up with it. I'm so
- 5:58Speaker 4: close to it, so much a part of my life.
- 6:01Speaker 4: But to just have this reminder of his impact and
- 6:05Speaker 4: to see how it's filtered into a new generation of
- 6:08Speaker 4: artists and the excitement of taking these songs forward has
- 6:12Speaker 4: just been man, what a blessing.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I know for a fact that you're you're yeah, I
- 6:17Speaker 2: can only imagine what your dad must have like you
- 6:19Speaker 2: would have felt just listened to this project, man, because
- 6:22Speaker 2: it's just that when you make music, you want it
- 6:24Speaker 2: to mean something. And now for you to you and
- 6:26Speaker 2: Masaka to get together and continue the meaning. Yeah, reframe
- 6:31Speaker 2: it for people who can understand it in our context.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Now that isn't that art? Isn't that what's supposed to
- 6:37Speaker 2: art supposed to be that way?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's also like how timeless music can be
- 6:42Speaker 4: and how it can connect us, you know, even in
- 6:44Speaker 4: a new generation. You know, I think there's going to
- 6:46Speaker 4: be people who come to this album who haven't heard
- 6:49Speaker 4: my dad's music and they're going to discover this music
- 6:51Speaker 4: for the first time, and then they're going to go back.
- 6:54Speaker 4: That's so exciting to me because there's there's there's a
- 6:56Speaker 4: there's a generation that grew up with this music. But
- 6:59Speaker 4: I think there's because we've got all these artists that
- 7:01Speaker 4: are appealing to a younger audience, There's going to be
- 7:03Speaker 4: people that discover my dad through this album. And that's
- 7:06Speaker 4: so exciting as well, Like just the a new like
- 7:11Speaker 4: group of people finding out that there was this artist
- 7:13Speaker 4: and he had some pretty good songs.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Every one of them. I thought I'd do something, something crazy.
- 7:20Speaker 2: And the crazy year is that I've got clips of
- 7:23Speaker 2: every track.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Damn, I know, this is this is this is the
- 7:28Speaker 4: first time anyone's ever hearing this.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I know. So I wanted to do this because I
- 7:32Speaker 2: think enough teasing. Only snippets, That's all I want to do,
- 7:35Speaker 2: only snippets because in two weeks we get the album. Right,
- 7:38Speaker 2: it's twenty four July twenty four album drops twenty four July.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Plus there's a festival that be doing around the album,
- 7:44Speaker 2: the Scappings, which is going to.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Be that is coming up. Well.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Next week we are debuting in London Trafalgar Square for
- 7:51Speaker 4: the Mandela Day celebrations. Yes, that's going to be a
- 7:54Speaker 4: huge show, like ten thousand people in London and a
- 7:58Speaker 4: lot of the artists from the album are coming to
- 8:00Speaker 4: sing and perform and do their song from the album.
- 8:03Speaker 4: And then we bring it home to joe Berg on
- 8:04Speaker 4: the first of August, hoping we're going to do cape
- 8:06Speaker 4: Ton as well, but we will, and we will.
- 8:08Speaker 3: I'll be here to announce it if that.
- 8:10Speaker 2: If that happens, please, please, please please, Okay tell you what.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I'm only going to do snippets, Okay, all right, and
- 8:16Speaker 2: we're going to track through this. Here's snippet number one, Monanga.
- 8:29Speaker 2: This is Chase something treatment of us in Monanga.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I mean, when you.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Heard this for the first time, what was your feelings?
- 8:36Speaker 4: I was just like, you know, everyone was terrified to
- 8:39Speaker 4: do a simple nanga.
- 8:40Speaker 3: None of the artists wanted it.
- 8:41Speaker 4: And when we spoke to Jay, he was like, bro,
- 8:44Speaker 4: please tell me no one's taken a simpang. And I
- 8:46Speaker 4: was like, dude, I'm so happy you're taking this because
- 8:48Speaker 4: everyone is terrified of the song. It's such a beautiful
- 8:51Speaker 4: song and he did such an amazing job with it,
- 8:53Speaker 4: and to hear his the emotional journey that he went
- 8:56Speaker 4: on recording it was just so beautiful.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And they've just dropped music video. It's incredible.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Shore Beatenberg doing Scattlings of Africa. I actually have not
- 9:05Speaker 2: heard this one, so and we are scrattlings of.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Africa both une, We're a the Tupela Manka beneath the
- 9:20Speaker 5: cap of sky.
- 9:21Speaker 3: And we are scatterling Zuba. That's so dope.
- 9:29Speaker 2: What and it's so Beatenberg. But then also just so
- 9:32Speaker 2: scattlings all at the same time. What a beautiful, beautiful
- 9:35Speaker 2: tractor is Sami Sami and Kansi. Oh my word. Now
- 9:48Speaker 2: this was the one I was most excited about because
- 9:52Speaker 2: I thought, who would take on this?
- 10:08Speaker 4: This is me Yessaki, Jabble Lili Majela and Sipunu from Juluka.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Yo everyone else.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And then when I when I saw san Al and
- 10:18Speaker 2: this one.
- 10:31Speaker 4: This is an old Jeluca song, very old Jelucas song,
- 10:34Speaker 4: very obscure song, so beautiful, and Sonel just did an
- 10:36Speaker 4: complete reimagining of this.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It's beautiful.
- 10:39Speaker 4: It's me tato Hatzi, Msaki and son now shure.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Okay, the goosebumps are going because third World child, I'm Saki.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Oh that voice. That's how when Entropy came out, I
- 10:56Speaker 2: was I was like, Yore, what are you doing?
- 10:59Speaker 3: Jesse?
- 11:00Speaker 2: Why would you drop this? This is that was so good?
- 11:03Speaker 2: By the way, man another one, then Muzi doing Wally Mama.
- 11:10Speaker 4: It's been so interesting to see what songs some of
- 11:12Speaker 4: the artists have chosen, right, these are some of these
- 11:15Speaker 4: are really obscure Julucas songs, and these are the songs
- 11:18Speaker 4: that they yeah listen to their whole life.
- 11:22Speaker 3: But I like that little trap step in there. It's
- 11:24Speaker 3: like that dark broast. Then our good friends worth what's the.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Solani recorded this with a township choir and they recorded
- 11:48Speaker 4: this in a shack. It just in the townships, in
- 11:51Speaker 4: a shack in the townships. I mean, the footage from
- 11:53Speaker 4: this recording is just so beautiful.
- 11:55Speaker 3: It's an a cappella version. It just gets me. It's crazy.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Tucks and.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Save my Heart Away. That trays awesome, And we love
- 12:18Speaker 2: Tres's story, you know the way the man who was
- 12:20Speaker 2: on the come up. Don't forget he was a car god.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I know it took on the world and even just
- 12:25Speaker 2: and even have he has creds and Drake's album and
- 12:28Speaker 2: all over the world.
- 12:29Speaker 4: This man is so cool and was so so excited
- 12:32Speaker 4: to do this. Was one of the first artists that
- 12:34Speaker 4: jumped in and just shout out, tis a man with
- 12:36Speaker 4: my brother and someone I respect so much.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Yoh, this is so good. Plus must Candy. We had
- 12:46Speaker 3: to have a Musk Candy artist on the album.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Of course, Friday, good Day.
- 12:53Speaker 3: For it, what's that Friday?
- 12:57Speaker 2: And then the one that was dropped today. I'm so
- 13:20Speaker 2: tending to stop before the drops, so you can actually
- 13:22Speaker 2: get that.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Okay, well not give it to you. You started us too late.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Thanks Zakes, weights on the Drops. I love it.
- 13:40Speaker 4: You're going to be but it's it's it's up today,
- 13:43Speaker 4: so check it out, Jakes bon Between you're doing the Crossing,
- 13:45Speaker 4: Oh man, what.
- 13:46Speaker 2: A beautiful song. Honestly, a beautiful take on it as well. Now,
- 13:48Speaker 2: the one song I want to play in its entirety
- 13:51Speaker 2: is a track that I think is very special. It
- 13:53Speaker 2: is special to every South African, the Great Heart Song.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And before we play this, because this project is it's incredible.
- 14:00Speaker 2: As you heard all of those contributors on the Scattling's project.
- 14:03Speaker 2: That's going to be a festivals while London's going to
- 14:06Speaker 2: see it.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Jesse.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I was privileged enough as a radio broadcaster to have
- 14:13Speaker 2: incredible artists and people in my studio. Okay. One of
- 14:18Speaker 2: the best interviews I've ever done in my life was
- 14:21Speaker 2: with your dad, m Thank you man, and he was
- 14:25Speaker 2: so giving. He is a man who speaks like we
- 14:28Speaker 2: are around a fire. I forgot I was doing an interview.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I felt like the fire was going and he was
- 14:33Speaker 2: telling me stories about his life. And one of the
- 14:36Speaker 2: most beautiful things is that he was so generous with
- 14:39Speaker 2: what he was giving to me. It's like, just every
- 14:42Speaker 2: single question I asked him, he gave me four answers,
- 14:45Speaker 2: which which shows how generous you know, he was in
- 14:48Speaker 2: his storytelling and still is with his music today. Yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 2: And I wanted to play you a clip that I
- 14:56Speaker 2: found because I went to go scratch for this and
- 14:57Speaker 2: I'm like, when I found it, I was like, oh
- 14:59Speaker 2: my word.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I asked him about, you know, parts.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Of his career m and I asked him about you,
- 15:09Speaker 2: and for the longest time he was he was always
- 15:12Speaker 2: he was so respectful and he's always been respectful of
- 15:14Speaker 2: fact that, like you always wanted to carve your own past.
- 15:17Speaker 2: That's you, you know, It's it's important. I mean, I
- 15:20Speaker 2: have a son, and I'm sure you don't always want
- 15:23Speaker 2: to live in that sort of Oh you are Carl
- 15:25Speaker 2: Waste's son. You know you are Johnny Clig's son. You
- 15:28Speaker 2: want to call of your path and I get that,
- 15:29Speaker 2: and I felt that in the most real way when
- 15:31Speaker 2: he chatted to me. But he gave me such insight
- 15:34Speaker 2: into you and to your come up in music, and
- 15:37Speaker 2: I want to play you this and forgive me. I
- 15:40Speaker 2: hope I don't cry listening to this, But thank you.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I needed to ask him this and he was so generous.
- 15:44Speaker 2: So please take a listen to This is my chat
- 15:47Speaker 2: with your dad, and I found out so much more
- 15:50Speaker 2: about you.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Take a listen.
- 15:51Speaker 6: Jesse was fifteen when he started learning guitar, and but
- 15:56Speaker 6: he was very, very secretive.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I never knew he kept it away from me.
- 16:00Speaker 6: When he was about sixteen going on seventeen, he said, Dad,
- 16:05Speaker 6: I'd like to go full voice lessons and I said no, fine.
- 16:08Speaker 6: I never heard him sing, I never heard him pay,
- 16:10Speaker 6: I never heard hissing. It was like a silent thing
- 16:12Speaker 6: going on parallel. We lived in the same place. I
- 16:15Speaker 6: think was what he wanted is he wanted to present
- 16:18Speaker 6: something that was finished and accomplished. When he was eighteen,
- 16:20Speaker 6: he came to me and he said, I've got three songs.
- 16:23Speaker 6: I would like a demo. So I said fine, and
- 16:25Speaker 6: I phoned up Ernie, our demo guy, and I said, Vernie,
- 16:29Speaker 6: the Jesse's got some songs. Can you just help him
- 16:31Speaker 6: out here. The next day he phoned me up and
- 16:32Speaker 6: he said, John, are you a co writer in these songs?
- 16:36Speaker 3: And I said no.
- 16:37Speaker 6: He said, these are serious songs.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Dude. He said, you're joking.
- 16:40Speaker 1: He said he are.
- 16:42Speaker 6: I said, wow, Okay. So they did the demos and
- 16:45Speaker 6: he played them to me and he was nervous and
- 16:48Speaker 6: I fell out my chair. I couldn't believe it that
- 16:51Speaker 6: in my own home this had unfolded over the past
- 16:54Speaker 6: three years.
- 16:54Speaker 4: You know, do you remember those songs those three hours?
- 16:59Speaker 4: It was my first album, man, I was writing my
- 17:02Speaker 4: first album had that young Oh it was Heartbreak Street
- 17:06Speaker 4: and Today and you know those songs from my first
- 17:09Speaker 4: old I was.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I was terrified to play those songs.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, you know what, we we had to continue
- 17:15Speaker 2: because I wanted to know about sort of the highlights
- 17:17Speaker 2: of of Johnny's career, you know, and and what really
- 17:21Speaker 2: stood out for him is something that he believes as
- 17:23Speaker 2: part of his clegacy. And then we continued to have
- 17:26Speaker 2: this conversation and I want you to listen to this.
- 17:29Speaker 6: So we went into the studio last year in March.
- 17:31Speaker 6: We started, we finished in August. In the middle of it,
- 17:33Speaker 6: he came to me and he said, Dad, I wrote
- 17:35Speaker 6: a song for you, and I'd love for you to
- 17:37Speaker 6: sing it with me. And it was a really amazing moment.
- 17:43Speaker 6: And well, you know when you hear the lyrics, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 6: you'll you'll it was actually like a song for us.
- 17:49Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:49Speaker 6: We'd been through this whole health issue, you know, for
- 17:53Speaker 6: two years, and and it was it was a very
- 17:57Speaker 6: very pointed and poignant set of lyrics, and I added
- 18:05Speaker 6: in like four lines of my own and then we
- 18:08Speaker 6: sang it and it just worked out. It's just an
- 18:11Speaker 6: amazing father and son duets. It's sister for me. It's
- 18:15Speaker 6: just a one of the crowning moments. And during on
- 18:19Speaker 6: these tours, you know, I tell the story. You know,
- 18:22Speaker 6: he's never performed with me live. We've never been on
- 18:24Speaker 6: stage together, you know. And I said that when I
- 18:27Speaker 6: hang up my boots, my son will come and sing
- 18:30Speaker 6: with me. And so we performed that song and then
- 18:33Speaker 6: he sang A great Heart, and I sang the chorus,
- 18:37Speaker 6: and then he sang the verse, and so we it
- 18:39Speaker 6: was just a it's just a's a it's a it's
- 18:41Speaker 6: a it's a high it's a high point in the show.
- 18:43Speaker 6: It's a wonderful part of my life story which I
- 18:46Speaker 6: lived out in performance on stage.
- 18:50Speaker 3: You know, it's it's it's you know, what what more
- 18:53Speaker 3: can you ask for?
- 18:57Speaker 2: Man?
- 18:59Speaker 1: Man?
- 19:02Speaker 3: Sorry?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Man? So I just wanted to share that with you. Sure, sorry,
- 19:10Speaker 2: I thank you, man.
- 19:11Speaker 3: What did I do to us? Some live radio?
- 19:15Speaker 2: But yeah, I just I just wanted to share it
- 19:17Speaker 2: with you because in that moment, there was just like,
- 19:20Speaker 2: that's that's what a great heart sounds like.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Yeah, she's you know, and it's it's beating in your chest. Jesse.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember that man. You know, he was We
- 19:29Speaker 4: did that tour together and he was not well. Man,
- 19:32Speaker 4: he was you know, he just finished chemo, and I
- 19:35Speaker 4: was We were traveling the world, we did fifty seven
- 19:38Speaker 4: shows together, and and I was just trying to look
- 19:42Speaker 4: after him. You know, I really just wanted to look
- 19:44Speaker 4: after him and make sure he was okay. But we
- 19:46Speaker 4: got to play on stage together every night, and every
- 19:50Speaker 4: single night of that tour around the world was his
- 19:53Speaker 4: last show in that place, you know.
- 19:55Speaker 3: So it was like it was.
- 19:56Speaker 4: This epic combination of celebration and also sadness and a
- 20:01Speaker 4: goodbye but every night, you know, and it was so
- 20:04Speaker 4: beautiful and I could see it gave him life and
- 20:08Speaker 4: he got to see something of what his legacy was
- 20:12Speaker 4: to people, and he got to say goodbye, and you know,
- 20:16Speaker 4: he turned right until the end man right until the end,
- 20:18Speaker 4: like he did not want to go down without a fight,
- 20:22Speaker 4: you know. And I sang great Heart with him on
- 20:25Speaker 4: this tour. And you know, when I sing this song,
- 20:27Speaker 4: I mean the song that he was talking about. Our
- 20:29Speaker 4: duet is I've Been Looking. But great Heart is a
- 20:33Speaker 4: song that we sang at the end of the show
- 20:35Speaker 4: every night, and it was a song that we ended on.
- 20:38Speaker 4: And I just see him when I sing this song,
- 20:40Speaker 4: when I sang it in studio, I see his smile,
- 20:42Speaker 4: I see him on stage next to me, I see
- 20:44Speaker 4: him playing it, I feel his energy, and I'm just
- 20:48Speaker 4: I'm so grateful we got to have that memory together,
- 20:51Speaker 4: you know, because it's you know, when he was diagnosed,
- 20:54Speaker 4: they told us he had six months and he lived
- 20:56Speaker 4: for five years and we got to do all these
- 20:58Speaker 4: beautiful things together.
- 20:59Speaker 3: So I'm grateful we had that time.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Man. Love and music, Yeah, bro, love and music. Man, Sure,
- 21:05Speaker 2: that is the juice of life, right there is love
- 21:08Speaker 2: and its music. And the Scrattling's project is is such
- 21:12Speaker 2: a great I'm not going to caord it a tribute,
- 21:15Speaker 2: but it's a way of of not only legacy continuing,
- 21:19Speaker 2: but it's about reliving memories and reliving life in the
- 21:24Speaker 2: most beautiful way, you know, so, and.
- 21:27Speaker 4: It's beautiful that music gets to carry us, you know,
- 21:29Speaker 4: through these times, like these songs are so ingrained in
- 21:33Speaker 4: me and there's and they carry our memories. You know,
- 21:36Speaker 4: we get to we get to relive those moments together
- 21:38Speaker 4: and you know I feel his presence.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I feel it too, because when I had that interview
- 21:43Speaker 2: with him, you know, I did feel like there was
- 21:45Speaker 2: something of a I feel like he wanted to leave
- 21:48Speaker 2: me with a good record of things, which is why
- 21:53Speaker 2: I got so many more answers. And I'm going to
- 21:55Speaker 2: send you the full interview.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Please. Sounds like it was a proper deep dive, was
- 22:00Speaker 3: a what's a deep?
