- 0:03Speaker 1: up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonnya
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. It
- 0:12Speaker 2: feels as if a lot has happened over the past
- 0:14Speaker 2: weekend here in Singapore, and not to worry, I'll do
- 0:16Speaker 2: my best to summarize for you all those announcements, especially
- 0:21Speaker 2: if you're a big Formula One fan. Something happening across
- 0:24Speaker 2: the causeway very soon. It's Joakim Gomez with you. Singapore's
- 0:27Speaker 2: number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 2: On your Monday, 27th of July, yes, it is indeed
- 0:35Speaker 2: the final week of the 7th month of the year.
- 0:39Speaker 2: We're moving into August very soon. You're gonna see an
- 0:42Speaker 2: increase in National Day celebrations. I believe some of the neighborhoods.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Here in Singapore already setting up for their massive National
- 0:50Speaker 2: Day dinner. There could be neighborhood fireworks, but if you
- 0:53Speaker 2: were there for preview one on Saturday for this year's
- 0:57Speaker 2: National Day Parade at the National Stadium, I say thank
- 1:00Speaker 2: you very much.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I think most of us backstage agreed that the energy
- 1:07Speaker 2: for preview one was amazing because you have a combination
- 1:11Speaker 2: of the adults who successfully balloted for tickets, and on
- 1:14Speaker 2: the other side, you had a few primary 5 kids,
- 1:17Speaker 2: I think close to about what, 10,000 of them in
- 1:20Speaker 2: the stadium singing the songs really out loud. They were
- 1:24Speaker 2: so excited during the Kallang wave. They were.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Letting their voices be heard, and I think the adults
- 1:29Speaker 2: felt compelled to join in. And speaking of National Day,
- 1:35Speaker 2: I don't know if you were tuned in over the weekend,
- 1:37Speaker 2: but if you heard the trailer for the shock circuit play,
- 1:41Speaker 2: we got a pair of actual National Day parade tickets
- 1:46Speaker 2: coming your way for this entire week here on the show. Wow!
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I'm excited. Now, do me a favor. If you win
- 1:57Speaker 2: these tickets and if you're there at the stadium for
- 1:59Speaker 2: our National Day parade, be a part of it. Sing
- 2:03Speaker 2: the songs, do the kalang way, stand up and dance
- 2:06Speaker 2: without blocking anybody's view, of course, if you feel like it,
- 2:09Speaker 2: because it is really a party and I hope you
- 2:11Speaker 2: go there and forget reality for a while.
- 2:13Speaker 2: And allow yourself to be transported to the spirit known
- 2:17Speaker 2: as National Day Parade. And as promised, so much has
- 2:20Speaker 2: happened here in Singapore and around the world, and maybe
- 2:23Speaker 2: even across the causeway over the last two days. I'm
- 2:26Speaker 2: doing my best to make sure I summarize some of
- 2:27Speaker 2: the best action for you. By the way, congratulations to
- 2:31Speaker 2: our boys in red Team Singapore!
- 2:38Speaker 2: Kicking off their AFF championship with a win against Cambodia, 2-1,
- 2:43Speaker 2: Ilhan Fundy, take a bow. What a goal that was.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Definitely up for Puskass award, maybe. And tonight at the
- 2:51Speaker 2: Jalanbasar Stadium, our boys, they take on Timor-Leste. Limited tickets
- 2:57Speaker 2: still available.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So please, if you can buy one. If you have time,
- 3:00Speaker 2: go on down to Jalan Besar Stadium, have some supper
- 3:03Speaker 2: with friends later on at night after the game, and
- 3:05Speaker 2: cheer on our boys as they kick off their AFF
- 3:09Speaker 2: campaign here in Singapore. But just maybe say 45 minutes
- 3:13Speaker 2: away in terms of a flight or a 3-hour drive away.
- 3:17Speaker 2: You would know there's a bit of a situation happening
- 3:20Speaker 2: in the Middle East and the Grand Prix that was
- 3:23Speaker 2: supposed to happen there, the Bahrain Grand Prix, for example, canceled,
- 3:27Speaker 2: but to replace that, the weekend before the Singapore Grand Prix,
- 3:32Speaker 2: so I'm talking.
- 3:33Speaker 2: October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Our friends over at Malaysia,
- 3:38Speaker 2: Selangor to be exact, right next to KLIA. They'll be
- 3:42Speaker 2: hosting the Sepan Grand Prix to replace the Bahrain Grand Prix.
- 3:46Speaker 2: So yes, congrats to Malaysia. Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 2: After 9 years, Formula One action returns to Malaysia, and
- 3:55Speaker 2: here's giving you some history. The final race in the
- 3:58Speaker 2: Sepan Grand Prix was actually won by Max Verstappen back
- 4:02Speaker 2: in the year 2017. Coming in second place, we've got
- 4:05Speaker 2: Hamilton and in third place, Daniel Ricciardo. And look, I
- 4:09Speaker 2: believe loads of people now might be planning to go
- 4:12Speaker 2: to KL for the weekend because the Sepan Grand Prix
- 4:15Speaker 2: is right next to KLIA. I mean, as compared to
- 4:19Speaker 2: going into.
- 4:20Speaker 2: LCD Center itself. So perhaps you could be booking a
- 4:23Speaker 2: hotel near the airport. You might expect to pay a
- 4:26Speaker 2: little bit more now because I'm very sure ever since
- 4:28Speaker 2: the announcement, loads of people are doing plans to have
- 4:32Speaker 2: a quick getaway to Malaysia, then come to Singapore for
- 4:35Speaker 2: the Singapore Grand Prix. It's an exciting weekend for us
- 4:38Speaker 2: here in Southeast Asia. If you just joined us here
- 4:41Speaker 2: on the shock circuit wondering where is our darling Sonia, Thursday, Friday,
- 4:46Speaker 2: and over the weekend, and even now, I, I'm
- 4:49Speaker 2: Very sure she's still partying over in Belgium for Tomorrowland
- 4:53Speaker 2: because they've got like a 7 or 6 hour time difference.
- 4:56Speaker 2: So it could be still midnight over there and she
- 4:58Speaker 2: could be dancing herself into a Monday morning European time.
- 5:01Speaker 2: She's over at Tomorrowland. If you do follow her on Instagram,
- 5:05Speaker 2: you'd have seen all the updates already on her Insta
- 5:08Speaker 2: stories and her profile itself. I'm jealous. The stages look amazing.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Her experience looks amazing as well. I believe she's there
- 5:17Speaker 2: with Isin.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And Saffron for a campaign with JBL to which she
- 5:21Speaker 2: will share with us more when she's back with us
- 5:23Speaker 2: here on the show on Wednesday morning, twenty-ninth of July.
- 5:27Speaker 2: And joining us that Wednesday morning, we got Estelle Fly.
- 5:34Speaker 2: We'll be talking about her brand new single, Bury It,
- 5:37Speaker 2: available for you on all your favorite streaming platforms. When
- 5:40Speaker 2: we come back though, I want you to join me
- 5:42Speaker 2: on the show for maybe one or two minutes, 669-119-87.
- 5:47Speaker 2: The phone lines will be open in just a while.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You can call in and tell us your
- 5:51Speaker 2: Favorite thing about school, what you love about it. You
- 5:55Speaker 2: could be a teacher as well calling in to give
- 5:57Speaker 2: your students some encouragement if there are any exams or
- 6:00Speaker 2: weighted assessments going on. And the biggest takeaway for you,
- 6:04Speaker 2: I always say this, you get to practice your conversational skills,
- 6:07Speaker 2: have a chat with me, and
- 6:10Speaker 2: We play you your favorite song here on 987. So
- 6:14Speaker 2: be on standby 669-11987. Usually we take in phone lines,
- 6:19Speaker 2: but for today, I did receive a WhatsApp message and
- 6:22Speaker 2: I want to say good morning to Gane of Raffles
- 6:25Speaker 2: Girls Primary School. Hey Joakim, my classmates and I were
- 6:29Speaker 2: there for the NDP preview on Saturday. We really had fun.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I am
- 6:34Speaker 2: Having a sore throat, but I'm still going to school today.
- 6:37Speaker 2: So I really just wanna say a big shout out
- 6:39Speaker 2: to my classmates for making the experience extra fun. And
- 6:42Speaker 2: to be honest with you, whenever I scroll through TikTok
- 6:46Speaker 2: and I see someone posting a TikTok video, it could
- 6:48Speaker 2: be a primary 5 kid under the supervision of their parents,
- 6:51Speaker 2: of course. It brings back memories of my NE show
- 6:55Speaker 2: as well from the year 1999. It's a core memory
- 6:58Speaker 2: you'll never ever forget.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Just you and your schoolmates and your classmates and even
- 7:02Speaker 2: good friends singing the songs out loud, cheering, clapping, and
- 7:07Speaker 2: enjoying your KFC. I wonder if they still serve the
- 7:09Speaker 2: P5 kids there. I hope they do. So, Gene, here
- 7:12Speaker 2: is your song from The Seraphim. Hopefully, you're going for
- 7:15Speaker 2: their concert as well. And, OK, where were you over
- 7:18Speaker 2: the weekend when Marvel were doing all their announcements from
- 7:22Speaker 2: all age over at the Comic-Con?
- 7:25Speaker 2: I want to say congratulations to a few people. Firstly,
- 7:28Speaker 2: to Ryan Gosling. Yes, Ken Doh himself will be Ghost Rider,
- 7:34Speaker 2: that movie coming out in 2028. Well done.
- 7:40Speaker 2: And you know how Marvel, right? They love doing a
- 7:43Speaker 2: bit of the cinematic universe timeline clashes and all that.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I wonder whether Nicolas Cage reprise his role as the
- 7:50Speaker 2: OG ghostwriter. That movie was out in 2007. Will we
- 7:56Speaker 2: see him in the MCU aside from being Spider Noir,
- 7:58Speaker 2: we'll see. And also, when it comes to movie releases,
- 8:04Speaker 2: December 18th.
- 8:06Speaker 2: We got Avengers Doomsday of this year and then December
- 8:09Speaker 2: 17th next year, in case you missed it, we have
- 8:13Speaker 2: Avengers Secret Wars and December 15, 2028. It will be
- 8:20Speaker 2: Black Panther 3 and taking on the role as T'Challa's son,
- 8:24Speaker 2: the brand new Black Panther or maybe the king. I
- 8:27Speaker 2: want to say congratulations to David Johnson.
- 8:34Speaker 2: It's almost as if he was handpicked by Ryan Coogler himself,
- 8:37Speaker 2: and if you're not too familiar with David Johnson's work,
- 8:40Speaker 2: I suggest you go watch The Long Walk, or if
- 8:43Speaker 2: you really want to, Alien Romulus. So congratulations. Cannot wait
- 8:47Speaker 2: to see how David Johnson brings the role of T'Challa,
- 8:51Speaker 2: or rather T''Challa's son and the role of Black Panther forward,
- 8:55Speaker 2: and I wonder what happens to Shuri now that we
- 8:57Speaker 2: have a brand new Black Panther who might take on
- 9:00Speaker 2: the mantle. I'm not too sure because
- 9:03Speaker 2: We need to follow the timeline of the MCU. All
- 9:06Speaker 2: will be revealed perhaps maybe in Avengers Doomsday and Avengers
- 9:11Speaker 2: Secret Wars and how we can follow up in the
- 9:13Speaker 2: Marvel Cinematic Universe because to be honest with you, the
- 9:16Speaker 2: events leading up to Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars,
- 9:20Speaker 2: it's been quite messy.
- 9:22Speaker 2: But hopefully with Avengers Encore, they're gonna be releasing it
- 9:26Speaker 2: before Avengers Doomsday. It might tie up some loose ends
- 9:28Speaker 2: or introduce some new segments on how they're gonna bring
- 9:32Speaker 2: back Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. There you go. Now,
- 9:35Speaker 2: as Singapore sees an increase of run clubs in the
- 9:39Speaker 2: running community, firstly, I really hope you do consider signing up.
- 9:44Speaker 2: For the BYD Singapore International Marathon. You don't need to
- 9:47Speaker 2: do the full one. No need. Try the half marathon,
- 9:51Speaker 2: try the 10 km, try the 5 km. It's the
- 9:53Speaker 2: marathon here in Singapore where the roads are closed for
- 9:57Speaker 2: you and it's one of the rare times you get
- 9:59Speaker 2: to run on the roads here in Singapore without cars
- 10:02Speaker 2: interrupting your running journey. So please, if you can, do that.
- 10:05Speaker 2: But
- 10:06Speaker 2: With some of the run clubs, I wanna take you
- 10:09Speaker 2: to Bali right now and I hope that your run
- 10:11Speaker 2: club doesn't behave this way. Again, whatever I know is
- 10:15Speaker 2: whatever I've been seeing on social media. I've went down
- 10:18Speaker 2: this huge rabbit hole, but of course, sharing the news
- 10:21Speaker 2: with you, I'm taking news from both local and regional media.
- 10:25Speaker 2: So I'm pretty sure if you are active in the
- 10:28Speaker 2: running scene, you would have heard of this already. Entourage Bali.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yup, it's a run club over there, mainly focused on
- 10:36Speaker 2: digital nomads and expats. I think uh digital nomads are
- 10:41Speaker 2: It's the new phrase for working overseas. You just need
- 10:45Speaker 2: your laptop. It's almost like a work from home situation,
- 10:49Speaker 2: but you're working from Bali. But I, I don't know why.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I mean, OK, really reflect on yourself on this, OK?
- 10:56Speaker 2: Would you behave the same way you do in places
- 11:00Speaker 2: like Bali and Phuket?
- 11:03Speaker 2: Would you behave the same way in say, Tokyo or London? Yeah, if,
- 11:08Speaker 2: if you felt a bit uncomfortable, I don't know why,
- 11:10Speaker 2: but there are a handful of people when they go
- 11:12Speaker 2: to Bali or Phuket or even maybe other areas in
- 11:14Speaker 2: Indonesia or Thailand, they feel like a king.
- 11:18Speaker 2: They, they behave like they own the entire place. So,
- 11:21Speaker 2: this Entourage Bali was actually founded by two Dutch people
- 11:25Speaker 2: and it has been now shut down after allegations that
- 11:29Speaker 2: it excluded Indonesian locals from joining its events. And if
- 11:33Speaker 2: you are asking, hey, Joakim, are you sure? Where's the proof?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Online itself, on your threads, on TikTok and even Instagram reels,
- 11:42Speaker 2: you see messages, right, and there's the Entourage Bali logo.
- 11:47Speaker 2: They only seem to accept people from certain nationalities and countries,
- 11:52Speaker 2: and they make it extra confusing and hard for people
- 11:55Speaker 2: with the +62 numbers, which is of course from Indonesia.
- 11:58Speaker 2: So for example, I could be a 22 year old
- 12:00Speaker 2: female from Germany, which is part of the leaked screenshot messages, yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 2: They say, yes, you're accepted, come on down to our event.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And then if I'm using a +62 number, they will say, oh,
- 12:10Speaker 2: we realize you're using a +62 number. Can I ask
- 12:13Speaker 2: where are you?
- 12:14Speaker 2: from, and if the person says, oh, I'm from Indonesia,
- 12:17Speaker 2: I'm working here and all that, they will say, oh, OK, uh,
- 12:20Speaker 2: sign-ups are full right now, but we will let you
- 12:22Speaker 2: know if anything frees up. So I think it became
- 12:25Speaker 2: a huge controversy, and I'm not too sure whether the
- 12:28Speaker 2: video of that silent disco that has now gone viral
- 12:32Speaker 2: of them occupying the roads in Bali, and we know
- 12:36Speaker 2: the roads in Bali are very cramped enough lah, OK? We, we,
- 12:39Speaker 2: we don't need a run club.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Blocking traffic flow or your Gojek bikes or even your
- 12:44Speaker 2: vehicles as well. So that's the one that's kind of
- 12:47Speaker 2: gone viral. I don't know whether it was it that
- 12:49Speaker 2: event specifically that caused the controversy to blow up here.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I think some politicians from Bali as well have said, hey, it's,
- 12:57Speaker 2: it's very disgusting the way you treat, uh, our locals.
- 13:00Speaker 2: You do not own the place. So, I think Entourage Bali,
- 13:03Speaker 2: they have paused all events while it is being investigated.
- 13:08Speaker 2: And apparently, according to some of the news websites, the
- 13:12Speaker 2: Dutch founders left Bali for Singapore, so they could be here. Guys,
- 13:16Speaker 2: don't open a run club here, please. It's OK. We've
- 13:17Speaker 2: got more than enough. And most of the run clubs
- 13:20Speaker 2: here in Singapore have very good running etiquette. Yeah. I
- 13:23Speaker 2: wanna give a shout.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Shout out to the more popular ones, I think Fast
- 13:26Speaker 2: and Free running department. We've got the Adidas runners as well,
- 13:30Speaker 2: but some, if you're occupying the track space at the
- 13:34Speaker 2: stadiums here in Singapore, you could be over at MOE
- 13:37Speaker 2: Evans or Bishan Stadium or Serangoon Stadium.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Please check your ticket, can observe. If you're going really slow,
- 13:45Speaker 2: can you all take the outer lanes? And if you're
- 13:47Speaker 2: going at top speed, then do the inner lanes. Yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 2: try not to cut people, keeping you company on this
- 13:51Speaker 2: Monday morning. Thank you for tuning in. Now, look, I
- 13:54Speaker 2: wanna get really up close and personal with you here.
- 13:57Speaker 2: If you don't mind sharing some personal stories.
- 14:00Speaker 2: We love them, especially from now till 9 a.m. It's always,
- 14:04Speaker 2: we call it the call-in golden hour at 669-119-87 if
- 14:08Speaker 2: you want your voice to be heard or you can
- 14:10Speaker 2: WhatsApp us at 90050987. Now, on TikTok, I've been scrolling
- 14:16Speaker 2: through loads of, I think it's uni graduation season.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so loads of people saying I've graduated. Some TikTok
- 14:24Speaker 2: users that I follow as well, very proudly posting up
- 14:27Speaker 2: his or her pictures, and even parents are joining in
- 14:32Speaker 2: the social media trend. I believe you might have read
- 14:35Speaker 2: about actor Chew Choomming's daughter graduating, and I'm very happy
- 14:38Speaker 2: at least the comment section were nice. And it's Chew
- 14:42Speaker 2: Choom Meng, and look, I, I love that guy.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I used to watch him on, what was that show, the, the,
- 14:48Speaker 2: the gambling show on Channel 8 where he called himself
- 14:50Speaker 2: Lucky Boy with Li Nan Singh and Zoe Tay, and
- 14:54Speaker 2: he was Mr. Kiasu. I like, so I'm a fan.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I'm a big Chou Chong Ming fan and Sonia would say, hey,
- 14:59Speaker 2: we are cousins because same surname.
- 15:03Speaker 2: And I, I just wanna ask a question here on 987.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It doesn't just have to be pertaining to your graduation, OK?
- 15:12Speaker 2: The phrase, I'm proud of you, when said to you
- 15:17Speaker 2: by the right person.
- 15:18Speaker 2: It does wonders, man, really. Especially for us in Asian parents.
- 15:23Speaker 2: When your Asian parent says, I'm proud of you, wow,
- 15:27Speaker 2: sometimes you might be even scared like, hey, did I
- 15:29Speaker 2: do something wrong? Why suddenly got a very nice compliment
- 15:32Speaker 2: from you. But whenever my mom tells me I'm proud
- 15:35Speaker 2: of you, I'm happy lah, deep down inside, but cannot show.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Cannot show because if you show you will stop saying it,
- 15:42Speaker 2: so you got to like, OK, yeah, thank you and
- 15:44Speaker 2: walk away but actually inside you are celebrating. So, here
- 15:47Speaker 2: we go. 669-11987 or WhatsApp us at 90050987. When was
- 15:56Speaker 2: the last time the phrase I'm proud of you, when
- 16:00Speaker 2: was it said to you?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Let us know your story. I wanna know. Share it
- 16:04Speaker 2: with us here in Singapore. You never know who's tuned in.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Maybe your story might touch someone here on the airwaves,
- 16:09Speaker 2: courtesy of us on 987. So, 669-11987 or 90050987, inspired
- 16:17Speaker 2: by all the graduation pictures. Here is the question. When
- 16:21Speaker 2: was the last time the phrase, I'm proud of you,
- 16:24Speaker 2: when was it last said to you? Let us know.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Inspired by, I believe, uni graduation season, because I'm seeing
- 16:30Speaker 2: loads of people.
- 16:31Speaker 2: throwing their, what do you call them, mortar boards, yeah,
- 16:35Speaker 2: up in the air, and they're sharing screenshots of their
- 16:38Speaker 2: pictures with their parents and their parents saying, I'm so
- 16:40Speaker 2: proud of you. Well done. And that phrase, I'm so
- 16:43Speaker 2: proud of you, when said to you by the right person,
- 16:46Speaker 2: it does wonders. So, today's question, you can call us
- 16:49Speaker 2: over at 669-11-987 or WhatsApp us at 90050987. When was
- 16:55Speaker 2: it last said to you? And I wanna say good
- 16:58Speaker 2: morning on WhatsApp to username, huh.
- 17:01Speaker 2: H. Morning, Joakim. So my mom isn't a good praiser.
- 17:07Speaker 2: She doesn't really say anything. In secondary school, I was
- 17:10Speaker 2: really mischievous and everywhere, didn't listen and I was very rebellious.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Then I used to play a lot, didn't study, but
- 17:17Speaker 2: for graduation, when it, when it came down to my
- 17:20Speaker 2: O levels, I scored really well. I studied hard for
- 17:23Speaker 2: it and I got good scores. My mom gave me
- 17:26Speaker 2: a mm.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Which was her version of I'm proud of you, but
- 17:30Speaker 2: I never actually got it from her. Mostly from my
- 17:33Speaker 2: secondary school teachers. Trust, I gave them a lot of
- 17:36Speaker 2: headache in secondary school as well. Thank you very much
- 17:39Speaker 2: for your text and username, huh, because you and I,
- 17:41Speaker 2: when it comes to who we were in secondary school,
- 17:44Speaker 2: absolutely similar, just that only one of us did well
- 17:47Speaker 2: for our O Levels.
- 17:48Speaker 2: And that person is you.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Wanna say hello to Jenny. Jenny says, hey, Joakim, to
- 17:54Speaker 2: be honest, I don't think anyone has ever said those
- 17:57Speaker 2: words to me. That's why I make it a point
- 18:00Speaker 2: to tell people around me when I'm proud of them
- 18:03Speaker 2: because I know how much it would have meant to
- 18:05Speaker 2: hear it. Wow! Thank you very much, Jenny. The world
- 18:08Speaker 2: could use more people like you. Keep the calls and
- 18:10Speaker 2: texts coming in over at 669-119-87 or 90050987. On the
- 18:16Speaker 2: topic of the phrase, I'm proud of you.
- 18:20Speaker 2: When was it said to you last? Inspired by what
- 18:23Speaker 2: I've been seeing on social media of parents on TikTok
- 18:26Speaker 2: sometimes sharing about how, oh, my son or daughter just
- 18:29Speaker 2: graduated from university. I'm so proud of them and they'll
- 18:32Speaker 2: do a very nice family shot together. It's nice to see.
- 18:35Speaker 2: It warms my heart. So I'm going to WhatsApp right
- 18:38Speaker 2: now and thank you for being very personal and vulnerable
- 18:40Speaker 2: with me here on the short circuit. One coming
- 18:44Speaker 2: In from Wilfred. Wilfred says, Hey, Joakim, mine came from
- 18:48Speaker 2: my younger brother. We don't really say emotional things to
- 18:51Speaker 2: each other. After I'd spent months helping him through a
- 18:54Speaker 2: difficult period, he hugged me one day and quietly said,
- 18:57Speaker 2: I've never said this before, but I'm really proud of you.
- 19:00Speaker 2: That hit me harder than I expected because it came
- 19:03Speaker 2: from someone who rarely expresses his feelings. Wow!
- 19:07Speaker 2: Bring a tear to my eye, Wilfred. One coming in
- 19:10Speaker 2: from city. City says, hey Joakim, it was after my
- 19:13Speaker 2: first child was born. My mom came over one evening,
- 19:16Speaker 2: saw me trying to calm a crying baby while looking
- 19:20Speaker 2: completely exhausted and tired, and she just said, I'm proud
- 19:23Speaker 2: of the parent you've become. I didn't realize how much
- 19:27Speaker 2: I needed to hear that until she said it. Wow!
- 19:30Speaker 2: You guys are moving me to tears here on 987.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Keep the calls and texts coming in over at 669-11987.
- 19:37Speaker 2: That's to call us or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 19:42Speaker 2: The uni grad season. Loads of very nice pictures on
- 19:45Speaker 2: Instagram and TikToks of not just the students, but the
- 19:48Speaker 2: parents as well saying, I'm so proud of my daughter,
- 19:50Speaker 2: so proud of my son graduating, family group shot and
- 19:53Speaker 2: all that. And I was just thinking the phrase
- 19:56Speaker 2: I'm so proud of you. When said by the right person,
- 19:59Speaker 2: it could do wonders for your mental health and even
- 20:01Speaker 2: your physical health as well it might just lift you up.
- 20:03Speaker 2: So when was the last time that phrase was said
- 20:05Speaker 2: to you? Want to say good morning to Ifah who
- 20:07Speaker 2: just texted us. Hey Joakim, I just recently gave birth
- 20:10Speaker 2: to my 2nd. I came home to my 4 year
- 20:13Speaker 2: old first born and she just smiled and looked at me.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I know my husband told her to say it, but
- 20:18Speaker 2: hearing her say, Mama, I'm proud of you. You did it.
- 20:22Speaker 2: It felt so much more meaningful than any other compliments
- 20:24Speaker 2: I've heard before this. Ayo, Ifa, thank you so much
- 20:27Speaker 2: for sharing. So sweet. And one coming in from Jay.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Jay says, maybe not what someone said to me, but
- 20:34Speaker 2: what I said to my players. For context, I'm a
- 20:37Speaker 2: chook coach, and we just ended a competition yesterday. And
- 20:40Speaker 2: after the games during the debrief, I have praised the
- 20:43Speaker 2: players who gave it their all in their games. I
- 20:46Speaker 2: say things like, Good job, I'm proud of you. Make
- 20:48Speaker 2: them feel recognized and their effort.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Worthwhile. I hope to let the parents coach teachers that never, ah,
- 20:54Speaker 2: to let, to let them know that never be afraid
- 20:56Speaker 2: to give compliments, acknowledging effort, and showing approval. There you go.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Thank you so much. We do have time for one
- 21:03Speaker 2: or two more texts if you want to over at 90050987.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Gonna bring a close to today's really personable and
- 21:12Speaker 2: Might make you a little bit vulnerable if you're sharing
- 21:15Speaker 2: your stories with us here on 987 and I wanna
- 21:17Speaker 2: close it off with one anonymous text and this involves
- 21:20Speaker 2: the phrase, I'm proud of you. Morning Joakim, Happy Monday.
- 21:25Speaker 2: This morning's topic brought me quite a bit of emotion.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Growing up, I've never been told that statement. Well, I
- 21:30Speaker 2: know my parents love and take care of me, but
- 21:32Speaker 2: the statement I'm proud of you never came. Growing up,
- 21:35Speaker 2: I've been told many times, I'm a guy, I must
- 21:37Speaker 2: be strong, give in to my elder sister, so I
- 21:40Speaker 2: never knew I can be better or not. Fast.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Forward to today, I have two teenage girls. I will
- 21:46Speaker 2: take every opportunity to tell them how proud I am
- 21:49Speaker 2: of them individually, not just schoolwork, but whatever they, but
- 21:52Speaker 2: whenever they do the right thing. Now I have my
- 21:55Speaker 2: wife encouraging me when I'm down, saying she's proud of me. Aiyo.
- 21:59Speaker 2: There you go. Thank you so much for all your
- 22:02Speaker 2: calls and texts on this Monday. More to come tomorrow
- 22:04Speaker 2: as well. Keep it here on 987. Hey, I'm Bruno Mars,
- 22:08Speaker 2: Aperture right here on 987, your number one hit music station.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I wonder whether that's the song that's still being played
- 22:14Speaker 2: at all the places selling televisions here in Singapore. A
- 22:18Speaker 2: long time ago it was Hotel California, then it became
- 22:21Speaker 2: Psy's Gangnam Style, and then for a while there was
- 22:24Speaker 2: a 221 and Girls' Generation song.
- 22:26Speaker 2: And then Bruno Mars and Rose selling televisions worldwide, all
- 22:31Speaker 2: thanks to Aperture. But anyway, here in Singapore, we are
- 22:35Speaker 2: going towards a zero-waste master plan, and unfortunately, our recycling
- 22:41Speaker 2: rate has fallen. Our friends at the NEA, they want
- 22:44Speaker 2: to invite you to share your ideas on how Singapore
- 22:48Speaker 2: can reduce waste and encourage more.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Use again as part of the review of the Zero
- 22:54Speaker 2: Waste master plan, and it's also themed, Say Yes to
- 22:59Speaker 2: Wasteless and there's a Price to waste, and got 28
- 23:03Speaker 2: new partners joining the campaign, introducing initiatives such as reducing
- 23:07Speaker 2: single-use plastics, promoting reusable items, and improving food waste management.
- 23:13Speaker 2: There you go. I want to give a personal idea.
- 23:16Speaker 2: It involves the blue recycling bins.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I think more can be done to collect the recycled
- 23:23Speaker 2: waste from there because the one near my block, every
- 23:27Speaker 2: time I go there, it's filled with, I won't just
- 23:30Speaker 2: say recyclable items, no, it's filled with litter as well.
- 23:35Speaker 2: So I think for us Singapore in Singapore, a handful
- 23:38Speaker 2: of us need to be
- 23:41Speaker 2: I don't know what the word to use is now,
- 23:43Speaker 2: better educated on what can go in the recycling bin
- 23:47Speaker 2: and what can't go in the recycling bin, but even
- 23:49Speaker 2: though there are stickers there already, people will still throw
- 23:52Speaker 2: their rubbish inside the recycling bins, which shouldn't be the case.
- 23:55Speaker 2: So maybe we either do without the recycling bins and
- 23:58Speaker 2: find some other way, or somebody needs to monitor it
- 24:02Speaker 2: because
- 24:03Speaker 2: The ones at the Bishan area, especially my block, the
- 24:06Speaker 2: crows are going there to pull out food, lah. I
- 24:08Speaker 2: kid you not. The Formula One Singapore Airlines, the Singapore
- 24:11Speaker 2: Grand Prix, Zara Larson with Lush Life. I dare say
- 24:15Speaker 2: it was that song that broke her out into superstardom,
- 24:19Speaker 2: and I remember a few years ago she actually came
- 24:21Speaker 2: down to 987 for an interview back then with Gerald
- 24:27Speaker 2: and Kimberly Wang.
- 24:28Speaker 2: On their show when they used to do the morning show.
- 24:31Speaker 2: So yes, Sarah Larson, there you go. Hopefully we can
- 24:33Speaker 2: interview her and have a chat with her and catch
- 24:35Speaker 2: up on 987. That's it. How about this? Time to
- 24:38Speaker 2: play for your National Day parade. Actual day tickets, yup.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Everyone is balloting, but very hard to get, and we
- 24:47Speaker 2: here on 987, we have a pair for you. But
- 24:50Speaker 2: if you win these tickets, um, OK, and this one,
- 24:54Speaker 2: let me self-serve a little bit, OK?
- 24:56Speaker 2: As an NDP host, it gives me great joy to
- 25:00Speaker 2: always host for the primary 5s, and even the past Saturday,
- 25:04Speaker 2: we had a bit of the primary 5 kids and
- 25:06Speaker 2: the adults who came for preview 1. The adults were
- 25:09Speaker 2: most of the ones that better for tickets and they
- 25:11Speaker 2: got it, but you can hear the P5 kids overpowering
- 25:15Speaker 2: the adults for everything.
- 25:18Speaker 2: They were singing. They were screaming. They were so enthusiastic.
- 25:23Speaker 2: The adults were happy as well, but they were more
- 25:25Speaker 2: of a chill. Just sit down, enjoy the show, yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 2: kalang wave once or twice, but to sing the song,
- 25:32Speaker 2: I had the kids would do it.
- 25:34Speaker 2: If you win these tickets to the actual day, can
- 25:36Speaker 2: you come scream and shout, cheer, have fun, dance along
- 25:41Speaker 2: to all the songs, and maybe say, uh, memorize some
- 25:44Speaker 2: of the lyrics to Sparkle, Giants, and you'll be OK
- 25:48Speaker 2: and even Singapore Town as well. If you said yes,
- 25:50Speaker 2: then
- 25:51Speaker 2: Here we go. This game is for you. 669-11987. Call
- 25:55Speaker 2: us right now. I'm gonna put you through an NDP
- 25:58Speaker 2: trivia quiz. Three questions. I've done my best to keep
- 26:03Speaker 2: it really easy. And OK. Last week, we gave away
- 26:07Speaker 2: preview 2 tickets. I helped you a little bit.
- 26:09Speaker 2: This week, given the seriousness of it, the actual day tickets,
- 26:14Speaker 2: I'm not allowed to help you. I, I've been told
- 26:16Speaker 2: specifically by boss Janice, I cannot help. I either give
- 26:19Speaker 2: you the A or B answer, you get it wrong,
- 26:22Speaker 2: we'll take the next look, uh, the next caller, and
- 26:24Speaker 2: we are playing for NDP actual day tickets. The phone
- 26:28Speaker 2: lines are open over at 669-119-8.
- 26:31Speaker 2: 7 and I believe on the line right now, I
- 26:35Speaker 2: have Arian. Arian, are you ready to play for your
- 26:40Speaker 2: NDP tickets? Listen very carefully. Here we go. All right, Arian,
- 26:45Speaker 2: your very first question. How many years has it been
- 26:48Speaker 2: since the pledge was written? Is it A, 60 years
- 26:52Speaker 2: or B, 50 years?
- 26:55Speaker 2: Um, 5, 60 years, 60 years is correct. Your next question,
- 27:01Speaker 2: what is the name of the kids' show originally in
- 27:04Speaker 2: Bahasa Malayu that has two cats as the mascots? Is
- 27:08Speaker 2: it A, Kuchinta and Kuching, or B, Mat Yo Yo?
- 27:13Speaker 2: Um, Gucci, Gucing. I'm so sorry, man.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Not the answer we're looking for, Arian. So again, Arian's
- 27:22Speaker 2: stumbling on the second hurdle. It's the same set of
- 27:26Speaker 2: questions I have for you. Phone lines are now open
- 27:28Speaker 2: over at 669-119-87. Will you be able to steal a
- 27:34Speaker 2: pair of actual day NDP tickets? Go for it. Call
- 27:37Speaker 2: us right now. Station, but of course, you're looking on
- 27:39Speaker 2: August 9, 2026. We want you there at the National
- 27:42Speaker 2: Stadium for the actual day of National Day Parade. Hello, Kai.
- 27:47Speaker 2: How are you, man?
- 27:48Speaker 2: Uh, so far so good. Alright, Kai, are you ready
- 27:50Speaker 2: for our NDP quiz? Yes, I'm ready. OK, same set
- 27:54Speaker 2: of questions. Here we go. Kai, your very first one.
- 27:57Speaker 2: How many years has it been since the national pledge
- 28:00Speaker 2: was written? Is it A, 60 or B, 50 years? 60.
- 28:05Speaker 2: 60 is correct. The next question, what is the name
- 28:08Speaker 2: of the kids' show originally in Bahasa Malayu with two
- 28:11Speaker 2: cats as the mascot? Is it A Kuchinta and Kuching,
- 28:15Speaker 2: or B, Matt Yo yo?
- 28:18Speaker 2: Uh, Matt Yo yo. Matt Yo yo is correct. And
- 28:20Speaker 2: here is your final question, buddy. What is the name
- 28:23Speaker 2: of the mascot of the pink elephant that we have?
- 28:27Speaker 2: Is it
- 28:28Speaker 1: A
- 28:28Speaker 1: Charity
- 28:29Speaker 1: or B
- 28:30Speaker 2: Shandy?
- 28:31Speaker 1: Uh, I would say A. A is absolutely correct. Well done.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Hey, thank you.
- 28:41Speaker 2: We will see you at the National Stadium for NDP 2026.
- 28:46Speaker 2: If you're still trying to call us, not to worry,
- 28:48Speaker 2: we have 4 more pairs to give you from Tuesday
- 28:51Speaker 2: all the way till Friday. And just a personal confession,
- 28:54Speaker 2: I've not watched Odyssey yet.
- 28:57Speaker 2: It's not that I don't have time. All the seats
- 28:59Speaker 2: at the IMAX cinemas. How are you all booking it?
- 29:02Speaker 2: I go for 9 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. timings, right?
- 29:05Speaker 2: The cinema is full. Your morning work, is it?
- 29:11Speaker 2: Or are you taking leave to watch Odyssey, to which, uh, yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 2: just gonna make you smile this, uh, Monday morning. I
- 29:18Speaker 2: took leave on November 20th to make sure I enjoy
- 29:20Speaker 2: GTA 6. And now, if you're a gamer, PlayStation just
- 29:24Speaker 2: announced that God of War, Lowe or Laufi, however you
- 29:28Speaker 2: say it.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Will be released 16th of 16th of February next year, 2027.
- 29:34Speaker 2: So to boss Janice, uh, here is my on-air leave application.
- 29:39Speaker 2: 16th of Feb and 17th of Feb, two days to
- 29:42Speaker 2: play the game.
