Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The ski season kicking off this weekend, and joining us
- 0:02Speaker 1: this morning is Paul Anderson. Paul's with NZ Ski, the
- 0:05Speaker 1: chief executive. Paul, Good morning, Paul. Can you hear me?
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hear me?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Oh? There we go, gotcha? So what's happening? How much
- 0:16Speaker 1: snow we got?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Look, we're looking really good down in Queenstown at
- 0:21Speaker 2: the Remarkables and Corny Peaks. We had a storm rolled
- 0:24Speaker 2: through late last week dropped about twenty to thirty centimeters
- 0:29Speaker 2: in our mountains. But more importantly, we've had a good
- 0:32Speaker 2: eight days solid of snowmaking and we've got some pretty
- 0:36Speaker 2: incredible snowmaking systems down here. So we've got up to
- 0:40Speaker 2: a meter of snow now on our main trails and
- 0:42Speaker 2: looking good for openly non Saturday.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Fantastic. And what's the situation like with all of the lifts?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Are they all working and good all that kind of thing.
- 0:51Speaker 1: You're all ready to go from a business both side
- 0:53Speaker 1: of it.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, We've had a busy summer getting everything ready
- 0:59Speaker 2: maintain and doing all our maintenance on our lists and
- 1:02Speaker 2: snowmaking systems and so forth. So we for day one
- 1:07Speaker 2: we're going to be running with top to bottom skiing,
- 1:10Speaker 2: not all lists will be open. That's usual for the
- 1:12Speaker 2: start of the season. But where we're going to have
- 1:14Speaker 2: a current peak, our current Peak Express, which means we
- 1:17Speaker 2: can get our skiing top to the bottom and get
- 1:20Speaker 2: all the way to the top of the mountain and
- 1:21Speaker 2: have some great scheme and similarly over its remarkables Kurvey
- 1:26Speaker 2: based Express and the Alta Chairlift are both going to
- 1:29Speaker 2: be running.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and you've got because there's the expansion happening right.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah, looks that's work we've been doing. We've got aspirations
- 1:39Speaker 2: to push the remarkables over to the next valley in
- 1:42Speaker 2: the coming years. We've got an application and the fast
- 1:46Speaker 2: tracked process and working hard to make sure we can
- 1:48Speaker 2: get all those studies done towards the end of the year.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Fantastic, Paul Goodlick. How is the Is the fast track
- 1:55Speaker 1: process easy? Because it sounds like it should be easy
- 1:58Speaker 1: because it's got fast on the front of it, but as.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Actually it does well. Yeah. Look, the thing with the
- 2:03Speaker 2: part trek process is that brings all the hard yards
- 2:06Speaker 2: up front, so for us it means we have to
- 2:08Speaker 2: do a lot of studies rightfully. So once you've got
- 2:14Speaker 2: the information ready, we expect it to be really efficient
- 2:17Speaker 2: dealing with just that one agency, the Environmental Protection Agency.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So yeah, maybe talk to me this time, Nick Chair
- 2:25Speaker 2: and we'll see how we're going. But I'm hopeful of it.
- 2:29Speaker 2: The signals from the government are that they really want
- 2:32Speaker 2: these projects to get off the ground.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Nice one, Paul. Great to have you on the show.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Paul Anderson, who's with us the indeed SKI chief executive.
