- 2:29Speaker 4: I really like the work that he's been doing here
- 2:32Speaker 4: as of Lady's been doing this series, which I think
- 2:35Speaker 4: is fascinating, just interviewing some random people on the streets
- 2:40Speaker 4: of Charleston. Sometimes everyday people, in my mind, are much
- 2:44Speaker 4: more interesting than any politician, athlete, celebrity whatever. We're talking

- 3:01Speaker 4: the struggles of the Saint Alban's High football team, not
- 3:04Speaker 4: just on the field over the last several years, but
- 3:07Speaker 4: getting to the field. They have a new coach that
- 3:10Speaker 4: hopes to turn the whole thing around. He's Dan Brown,
- 3:12Speaker 4: he joins this morning being the Guarantee Bank Hotline coach.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Good morning, welcome to the show.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Good morning.
- 3:17Speaker 4: How are you. I'm doing fine, Thank you for being here.
- 3:20Speaker 4: So the the numbers have been down as far as
- 3:23Speaker 4: participation goes at Saint Alban's High School over the last
- 3:26Speaker 4: several years. And I know you're the new guy around here,
- 3:28Speaker 4: but what has the issue been over the years?
- 3:33Speaker 1: Really?
- 3:33Speaker 5: I think the biggest issue is, you know the wins
- 3:37Speaker 5: and lost column. You know, kid want to be part
- 3:39Speaker 5: of winning program. They want to be successful. I mean,
- 3:42Speaker 5: everybody wants to be part of something successful. Yeah, so
- 3:44Speaker 5: success is the biggest you know, it's the biggest driver
- 3:49Speaker 5: that I can see.
- 3:50Speaker 4: And it's been a culture. And I mean this with
- 3:52Speaker 4: all due respect coaching to the other coaches that have
- 3:55Speaker 4: been there, some of whom I've known very well, and
- 3:58Speaker 4: on some of the players, it's not been a culture
- 4:01Speaker 4: of winning. There with the football program in Saint albans
- 4:05Speaker 4: uh uh in quite a.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Long time, right, And that's one thing that we're wanting
- 4:10Speaker 5: to change really quickly, is we want to change the
- 4:13Speaker 5: culture of you know, an individuality culture. We want to
- 4:17Speaker 5: change it to you know, we're a family. We want
- 4:20Speaker 5: to be I want my guys to feel like they're
- 4:22Speaker 5: part of something that's bigger than themselves, and we want
- 4:25Speaker 5: them to feel like they're part of my family.
- 4:27Speaker 4: I just wonder, though, what are your plans to go about.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I know you're going to have a meeting tomorrow and
- 4:31Speaker 4: I try to get the community involved. We'll talk about
- 4:33Speaker 4: that a little bit later on, but uh, you know what,
- 4:37Speaker 4: how do you go about imparting that message to the
- 4:40Speaker 4: members of the football team that perspective members of the
- 4:42Speaker 4: football team, coach? And how do you get more people
- 4:43Speaker 4: to want to be a part of the team.
- 4:45Speaker 5: The agny thing is I feel like kids just want
- 4:48Speaker 5: to be treated with respect. We treat every kid with
- 4:51Speaker 5: the same amount of respect that I would expect them
- 4:53Speaker 5: to treat me with. I treat them like they're my family.
- 4:57Speaker 5: I treat them like they're my sons. I've been doing
- 5:00Speaker 5: for a while and I think that's the biggest thing,
- 5:02Speaker 5: is building that relationship with those kids and making them
- 5:05Speaker 5: feel like, you know, I care more about them as
- 5:08Speaker 5: a person than as a football player. And that's true,
- 5:10Speaker 5: I really do. I mean, football is one of the
- 5:12Speaker 5: best things that's ever happened to me. But being able
- 5:15Speaker 5: to really connect with the kid and get to their
- 5:18Speaker 5: level and you know, take an interest in who they
- 5:21Speaker 5: are is one of the biggest things I think for
- 5:24Speaker 5: a kid and showing them, you know, that mutual respect, you.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Know, maybe you try to impart up on them. What
- 5:31Speaker 4: led you to the job because I said, you're this
- 5:35Speaker 4: is your first year as.
- 5:36Speaker 5: A coach, right, that's my first head coaching job, Frive.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Well, your first head coaching job. Here at saying yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 4: And so there was something obviously that you saw coach
- 5:45Speaker 4: with this community. Everybody can look up the records online
- 5:49Speaker 4: or wherever, and you know what the records are. But
- 5:51Speaker 4: there was something about this community, this program that led
- 5:55Speaker 4: you to want to coach.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Here's me.
- 5:57Speaker 4: It's tough, man.
- 5:59Speaker 5: You walk around the streets, you walk through the school,
- 6:02Speaker 5: you walk I mean, you look at the baseball team,
- 6:04Speaker 5: you look at the basketball team, you look at the
- 6:06Speaker 5: lacrosse team, the soccer team. There's tough kids here and
- 6:10Speaker 5: for us to win ball games, we got to have
- 6:12Speaker 5: tough kids. And I really really like when I took
- 6:16Speaker 5: the job and talked to a lot of people, everybody
- 6:18Speaker 5: kept using the word, you know, we're tough. We have
- 6:22Speaker 5: some tough kids, and that's that's what you need to
- 6:24Speaker 5: win football games.
- 6:25Speaker 4: And you're going to have a meeting tomorrow night at
- 6:28Speaker 4: the high school at six o'clock. And this is not
- 6:30Speaker 4: just for you know, players or whatever. You're trying to
- 6:32Speaker 4: get the community of Saint Albans re engaged.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Yes, yes, we're trying to get We're trying to get
- 6:38Speaker 5: the community more involved within the football program. Obviously to
- 6:44Speaker 5: keep you know, keep people in the stands. We would
- 6:46Speaker 5: I would love to have a rambunctious crowd every Friday night.
- 6:49Speaker 5: But uh, more than anything, it's keeping everybody engaged and
- 6:53Speaker 5: you know, supporting our kids and supporting the program, not
- 6:56Speaker 5: just monetarily, but I mean just being there for you know,
- 6:59Speaker 5: a kid and being there for a program.
- 7:02Speaker 4: So again we're talking with coach Dan Brown at Saint Albans.
- 7:05Speaker 4: The Red Dragon's trying to field a team this year
- 7:06Speaker 4: of a Day Island show on five eighty Live, brought
- 7:08Speaker 4: to you in part by Pinnacle Consultants. When environmental questions
- 7:11Speaker 4: come up at a building, Pinnacle provides clear answer, specializing
- 7:14Speaker 4: in as best as led mold into air quality issues
- 7:17Speaker 4: to accredited lab testing based right here in West Virginia.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Learn more at Pinnacle Corp dot net. Helping you understand
- 7:22Speaker 4: your environment because what you don't know can't hurt you.
- 7:24Speaker 4: And I think that's very important coach, because any winning
- 7:27Speaker 4: program has got to win over the community as well,
- 7:31Speaker 4: because nobody, none of these kids want to go out
- 7:34Speaker 4: and play in front of an empty stadium on Friday
- 7:36Speaker 4: night at seven thirty.
- 7:37Speaker 5: As you mentioned, right, like, the biggest thing for me,
- 7:41Speaker 5: you know, being a coach and being a player was
- 7:44Speaker 5: there's nothing like Friday night. I mean, you can't you
- 7:47Speaker 5: can't emulate that with any other sport. You can't emulate
- 7:50Speaker 5: that throughout your life. There's I mean, there's a very
- 7:52Speaker 5: few times in your life where you get that rush
- 7:56Speaker 5: of walking onto a field on Friday knights with your
- 7:59Speaker 5: whole community behind. I mean, there's nothing that can replicate that.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Uh.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I think that it's I think it's that you're exactly
- 8:07Speaker 4: right about that. You know, UH and UH. And it's
- 8:10Speaker 4: an interesting story too, because we hear a lot about
- 8:14Speaker 4: other schools UH not having enough players to field a team.
- 8:19Speaker 3: UH.
- 8:19Speaker 4: I did a story last week, and I'm sure you're
- 8:21Speaker 4: familiar with the program with Van Bulldogs down in Boone County.
- 8:24Speaker 4: They weren't able to field a team. I talked to
- 8:26Speaker 4: their coach, Margaret Goasti on the Midday show last week.
- 8:28Speaker 4: They're hoping to be able to field the team this year.
- 8:30Speaker 4: But this is a totally different situation because you know,
- 8:34Speaker 4: Sat Habits is a big school, this is a Triple
- 8:37Speaker 4: A school. We're talking about Van. I understand this is
- 8:39Speaker 4: I think a seven through twelve school that's you know,
- 8:42Speaker 4: struggling to stay open. To be honest with you, but
- 8:44Speaker 4: this is not the case. It's Saint Albans and you
- 8:46Speaker 4: and you. You pointed to the other successes that they've had,
- 8:50Speaker 4: they little cross team and the in the in the
- 8:52Speaker 4: basketball and softball, They've they've had a lot of successes
- 8:55Speaker 4: in other uh, in other areas, coach, but just not
- 8:57Speaker 4: in football. So this is kind of unique to me.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's it's been a struggle. I mean, obviously
- 9:04Speaker 5: we got the talent, we have the kids. It's just
- 9:07Speaker 5: getting everything put together. I mean, the community's there, the
- 9:10Speaker 5: kids are there, the administration's there, everything's there. Now we
- 9:14Speaker 5: just got to, you know, wrangle everything together and put
- 9:17Speaker 5: it in one direction when we have to. That's one
- 9:20Speaker 5: thing that we're going to try to do is make
- 9:23Speaker 5: sure everybody is going in the same direction.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Well, we certainly wish you well. You know, I've got
- 9:29Speaker 4: a little ties to this program. When I was working
- 9:31Speaker 4: at another company in Charleston, we did the games on
- 9:33Speaker 4: the radio and this was under coach Scott Tinsley, Delate
- 9:36Speaker 4: Scott Tinsley and Nick Watson. There's been some quality folks
- 9:39Speaker 4: to come through there, and I know others have tried
- 9:41Speaker 4: to turn it around. And we certainly wish you, you know,
- 9:44Speaker 4: the best of luck in this. And I hope that
- 9:46Speaker 4: the community buys into this, and I hope the kids
- 9:48Speaker 4: buy into it, and we we can, you know, kind
- 9:51Speaker 4: of kind of return this program to what that school deserves.
- 9:54Speaker 4: This meeting is going to be tomorrow night at six
- 9:56Speaker 4: at the auditorium a say in Alberts High School, and
- 9:58Speaker 4: it's open to the community. This is a community meeting.
- 10:00Speaker 4: We'll give you an opportunity to try to to impart
- 10:04Speaker 4: upon the community this time. Coach, why they should attend
- 10:07Speaker 4: this meeting, why they need to get behind this program.
- 10:11Speaker 5: We really just want our community to be involved. I've
- 10:16Speaker 5: been around football for most of my life, and for
- 10:21Speaker 5: a program or a school to be successful, you've got
- 10:25Speaker 5: to have community support, either monetarily or through actually showing
- 10:29Speaker 5: up to things that the kids are doing, whether it's
- 10:32Speaker 5: the car was are we're playing in a weightlift upon
- 10:37Speaker 5: next year.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Showing up to that.
- 10:40Speaker 5: Just showing up for our kids, that's the big thing.
- 10:42Speaker 5: And showing these kids that they're supported and that we
- 10:45Speaker 5: care about them. If you go to any other football
- 10:47Speaker 5: football community, that's what happens.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, yeah, and I understand that you know
- 10:52Speaker 4: all about that, but I do want to ask you, like, so,
- 10:55Speaker 4: where are we now on the upcoming season. That's a
- 10:57Speaker 4: very important question I think needs to be asked. Where
- 10:59Speaker 4: are we? I mean I heard on the radio report
- 11:01Speaker 4: this morning on Daniel Wood Sports that you've got practice
- 11:04Speaker 4: playing today. Where are what's the status of the team
- 11:06Speaker 4: right now? The numbers and whatnot.
- 11:09Speaker 5: We've had so in the off season, so running January
- 11:13Speaker 5: till in the middle of June, we had thirty eight
- 11:16Speaker 5: kids come through our door. So I gave about thirty
- 11:19Speaker 5: sets thirty eight sets of practice year. Getting kids consistently
- 11:24Speaker 5: to show up is the biggest thing is you know,
- 11:26Speaker 5: consistency is going to.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Win this thing.
- 11:30Speaker 5: But had our last flex practice, we had twenty kids there.
- 11:36Speaker 5: We were seven, we had seven on seven with Poka
- 11:39Speaker 5: and we had twenty kids soup, so it was it
- 11:42Speaker 5: was fun day. Right now, just hoping we have a
- 11:46Speaker 5: good turnout this evening and tomorrow and the rest of
- 11:48Speaker 5: the rest of the July.
- 11:49Speaker 4: All right, well, coach, we wish you the best of luck.
- 11:51Speaker 4: And again I'm kind of even though I'm not really
- 11:54Speaker 4: connected to the school, I still am, you know when
- 11:56Speaker 4: I was a part of the program years ago, and
- 11:59Speaker 4: we wish you the best of luck with everything. We
- 12:01Speaker 4: can do anything to help out. Man, Just let us
- 12:03Speaker 4: know that. Meetings tomorrow and I at six in the
- 12:04Speaker 4: auditory of Saint Albans High schoo appreciated coach, good luck to.
- 12:07Speaker 5: You, appreciates you, Thank you so much.
- 12:09Speaker 1: You all have a great day you as well.
- 12:10Speaker 4: It is nine twenty. Yeah, I just like I said,
- 12:12Speaker 4: I it's just unfathomable to me to have a school
- 12:16Speaker 4: the size of Saint Albans Triple A school. I mean,
- 12:18Speaker 4: you understand some of these smaller schools, but not Saint Albans.
- 12:22Speaker 4: And they've had the you know, it's been a long
- 12:24Speaker 4: time since they've had and they've had some good quality
- 12:27Speaker 4: coaches and good quality players that have come through there.
- 12:29Speaker 4: But for one reason or another. And I don't know
- 12:31Speaker 4: what it is. If I if I knew, I would
- 12:33Speaker 4: be you know, on the on the YouTube coaches circuit
- 12:38Speaker 4: or something. You know, it's instructing other schools on how
- 12:40Speaker 4: to do it. I'm not an expert at this, uh,
- 12:42Speaker 4: but I wish them the best. I mean, I really
- 12:45Speaker 4: really do. I think the high school deserves it, and
- 12:48Speaker 4: I think that the people of Saint Albans deserve it
- 12:50Speaker 4: as well. It is nine twenty. You want to remind
- 12:52Speaker 4: you that this Saturday, all of our stations of ucchs
- 12:56Speaker 4: V one hundred to beat the Mountain Superstar Country KWS

- 17:04Speaker 4: he's been on the show before, and I think I
- 17:06Speaker 4: think what he's been writing about here lately is fascinating.
- 17:09Speaker 4: He's Bill Lynch and he joins us this morning. The
- 17:11Speaker 4: Jay Construction City is Good morning, sir, welcome to the show.
- 17:14Speaker 9: More than Dave'm glad to be here.
- 17:16Speaker 4: So we've spruced up the place a little since you
- 17:18Speaker 4: were here last time. It's pretty I mean wow, I mean, yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 4: we're gonna mess around and have a radio station here
- 17:24Speaker 4: if we're not careful. I mean, that's what I think
- 17:27Speaker 4: is going to happen here. You know, I think I
- 17:30Speaker 4: speak on a half bill of a lot of a
- 17:32Speaker 4: lot of your readers. You know, you're you're you're a
- 17:34Speaker 4: fantastic writer, and you have done all sorts of great
- 17:36Speaker 4: stories over the year. But what you've been doing lately,
- 17:39Speaker 4: this is why I reached out to you, is very
- 17:40Speaker 4: interesting to me. Just randomly interviewing people on the streets
- 17:46Speaker 4: of Charleston. Where did you get this idea? Why did
- 17:49Speaker 4: it appeal to you? Well?
- 17:50Speaker 9: Years ago? The column is very me centric, right. It
- 17:55Speaker 9: starts a lot of things, you know, involving my process
- 17:58Speaker 9: or something I'm interested in you know, and I have
- 18:01Speaker 9: a wide range of things I don't know much about,
- 18:03Speaker 9: so you know, if I was interested in learning how
- 18:04Speaker 9: to bake a pie or learning to to do something
- 18:08Speaker 9: with the symphony or get in shape or whatever. So
- 18:11Speaker 9: it was always very very mean me. But I'm always
- 18:13Speaker 9: curious about other people. But you know, walking up to
- 18:17Speaker 9: just random people and saying, hey, why are you doing this?
- 18:20Speaker 9: Why no one really does that. So I thought about
- 18:23Speaker 9: it and kicked it around for years, and then you know,
- 18:26Speaker 9: last month, as usual, I was like, you know, looking
- 18:29Speaker 9: for something at the last minute, and it was on
- 18:32Speaker 9: my list of things to do, and it had been
- 18:33Speaker 9: on my list a couple of times, and I said, well,
- 18:36Speaker 9: it has to be easier than camping. So I said,
- 18:39Speaker 9: I'll just dive in. And I didn't know what was
- 18:41Speaker 9: going to happen. I wasn't sure whether you know, someone's
- 18:44Speaker 9: going to tell me to you know, get out of here,
- 18:47Speaker 9: or you know, get You never know what you're going
- 18:48Speaker 9: to get. You know, you asked you. I mean, you
- 18:50Speaker 9: walk up to somebody, they could I mean, they could
- 18:52Speaker 9: really kind of go off on you. And I've seen
- 18:54Speaker 9: that happen in weird places. But I just thought we
- 18:56Speaker 9: could just give it a try, and even if if
- 18:58Speaker 9: people tell me no and go away, it's still kind
- 19:01Speaker 9: of a story. But so far, nobody's doing that. So,
- 19:05Speaker 9: you know, I walk up somebody had to see randomly, Really,
- 19:09Speaker 9: this is.
- 19:10Speaker 4: So much somewhere like the streets to Charleston pretty much.
- 19:12Speaker 9: Yeah, I've I've had conversations with people catching out from
- 19:16Speaker 9: you know, getting out from the rain and being under
- 19:18Speaker 9: an awning, and then it's looking over and saying, so
- 19:20Speaker 9: I'm with the newspaper and I'm doing this thing. What's
- 19:23Speaker 9: your name? And then we just talked for ten minutes
- 19:25Speaker 9: while I was raining, or you know, this past weekend,
- 19:28Speaker 9: I was at Capital Market. I just finished running. I've
- 19:31Speaker 9: been training for the Charleston Distance Run again. So I
- 19:34Speaker 9: had run eight miles and was tired and wanted something
- 19:37Speaker 9: to eat, and so I talked to a baker and
- 19:40Speaker 9: sat down and we had like a twenty five minute
- 19:42Speaker 9: conversation about her. So it's been a lot all of
- 19:45Speaker 9: those things just kind of random. You see something that
- 19:47Speaker 9: doesn't that's out of the blue. You know, someone who's
- 19:49Speaker 9: who's working when everyone else is playing, someone who's playing
- 19:52Speaker 9: with someone else everyone else is working. Just random stuff,
- 19:56Speaker 9: and the stories that I've been getting are pretty decent.
- 19:59Speaker 9: People are going to give me a real insight into
- 20:01Speaker 9: their lives.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Tell us the listeners that maybe haven't read these some
- 20:06Speaker 4: of the ones that you've had. I mean, because you've
- 20:07Speaker 4: talked to people that weren't from Charleston but ended up
- 20:10Speaker 4: in Charleston for one reason or another. He talked to
- 20:12Speaker 4: one gentleman who was a little interesting. You know, that
- 20:16Speaker 4: could have been a little threatening to some people, you know,
- 20:19Speaker 4: But I mean, I'm just based on what I read. Sure,
- 20:21Speaker 4: so just tell us some of the stories.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Sure.
- 20:23Speaker 9: I spoke to one man. He was an older guy
- 20:26Speaker 9: who was at the market. He was just sitting there,
- 20:28Speaker 9: had his He was an older guy who had earbuds
- 20:30Speaker 9: on and he was just kind of jamming along. Was
- 20:32Speaker 9: like that seemed kind of odd to see a guy
- 20:34Speaker 9: who seventies eighties and he's like kind of into the music,
- 20:38Speaker 9: and he was listening to Traveling Woolbury's. So he and
- 20:40Speaker 9: I have a talking points for that. By the way,
- 20:42Speaker 9: I love you know, he's like handle with care and
- 20:44Speaker 9: I'm like, I know the song, but you know, he
- 20:47Speaker 9: tells me, you know, about his career and his life
- 20:50Speaker 9: in Charleston, and you know, things are are kind of okay,
- 20:53Speaker 9: so what But then he tells me he's adopted, right,
- 20:56Speaker 9: that he was adopted when he was eight years old,
- 20:58Speaker 9: but he doesn't doesn't remember where he was from, and
- 21:02Speaker 9: I thought, hang on, so, you know, he might have
- 21:05Speaker 9: been from Detroit, he might have been from Ohio. But
- 21:09Speaker 9: you know, I can recall all the places I lived
- 21:11Speaker 9: before before I was eight. I lived in Virginia, I
- 21:14Speaker 9: was in North Carolina, and my dad was in the military,
- 21:16Speaker 9: so we moved around a little bit. But he didn't remember,
- 21:18Speaker 9: which to me indicates there was a big thing that happened.
- 21:22Speaker 4: That's exactly what to play amateur psychology is gonna. I
- 21:25Speaker 4: was my first thought, Bill was there's some kind of
- 21:27Speaker 4: trauma here, just saying but.
- 21:29Speaker 9: You know, but you kind of can piece together bits
- 21:32Speaker 9: and pieces of his life. So you know, at eight
- 21:34Speaker 9: years old, he gets adopted by the principal of an
- 21:37Speaker 9: elementary school, and so his career he was a school psychologist.
- 21:43Speaker 9: He worked in the local school system, so he was
- 21:45Speaker 9: interested in helping children, you know, in a school setting.
- 21:49Speaker 9: So those pieces kind of come together, and I don't
- 21:52Speaker 9: like put those down. So this is why this but
- 21:54Speaker 9: you know, you hear his story and you can kind
- 21:56Speaker 9: of see where those pieces are coming from. You know,
- 22:00Speaker 9: all kinds of people. I haven't posted it, like, not
- 22:04Speaker 9: every person I've talked to so far has made it
- 22:06Speaker 9: in print, and not all stories are necessarily truthful ones,
- 22:11Speaker 9: and some of those are kind of interesting. I met
- 22:13Speaker 9: a man who told me that he was from Saudi Arabia,
- 22:16Speaker 9: and we talked for ten minutes about, you know, his
- 22:18Speaker 9: plans to go back to Saudi Arabia, that he grew
- 22:20Speaker 9: up in Beckley and he was here and he was
- 22:22Speaker 9: kind of waiting for his passport to get kind of
- 22:24Speaker 9: straightened out. But I'm pretty sure he was homeless, right.
- 22:30Speaker 9: You know, There's just been a lot of interesting odd
- 22:33Speaker 9: pieces to it, and I look forward to every person
- 22:36Speaker 9: I keep kind of coming across.
- 22:38Speaker 4: So when you go up to these people, Bill and
- 22:40Speaker 4: like you said, you told the story of the one
- 22:42Speaker 4: who was everybody's trying to take shelter because of a
- 22:44Speaker 4: rainstorm anan under the awning. What you just that's literally
- 22:48Speaker 4: what you say is say, I'm from the newspaper and
- 22:51Speaker 4: I'd like to talk to you a minute. I mean,
- 22:53Speaker 4: what are some of the nah I'm not going to
- 22:55Speaker 4: do this interactions.
- 22:56Speaker 9: Like well, there haven't bet anybody who said no, okay,
- 22:59Speaker 9: nobody said.
- 23:00Speaker 4: People love to talk about themselves.
- 23:01Speaker 7: They do that.
- 23:03Speaker 9: You are your favor most favorite subject, yes, right, yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 9: every every time. Sometimes it takes him a second to
- 23:09Speaker 9: kind of kind of build up to where they want
- 23:11Speaker 9: to talk about something that's that's needy. But you know,
- 23:14Speaker 9: mostly like okay, the guy with the awning, I was
- 23:16Speaker 9: standing out in the rain and he says, come on over,
- 23:18Speaker 9: I don't bite, and I'm like okay. So then we
- 23:22Speaker 9: strike up the conversation and you know, I said, I'm Bill,
- 23:25Speaker 9: and he goes, I'm Jim. And he's sitting there and
- 23:27Speaker 9: where he's in a wheelchair, and you know, we're just
- 23:30Speaker 9: kind of talking for a second, and I say, oh, well,
- 23:32Speaker 9: since i'm here, hi, I'm with, I'm Bill Inch, I'm
- 23:35Speaker 9: with the newspaper. And he said, I we'll hold that
- 23:37Speaker 9: against you. And and that point that's when he starts
- 23:40Speaker 9: telling me about, you know, where he's from, and I'm thinking, okay,
- 23:43Speaker 9: I'm going to be talking to someone who is who's
- 23:45Speaker 9: on the streets. But he never said that, right, He
- 23:49Speaker 9: was always saying that he was from someplace else and
- 23:52Speaker 9: that he was only here for a little while and
- 23:54Speaker 9: he was going back. But then, you know, a couple
- 23:56Speaker 9: of days later, where do I see him, same basic spot,
- 24:00Speaker 9: the same kind of thing. I don't. I mean, could
- 24:02Speaker 9: be that he's from Saudi Arabia. It's always possible, but
- 24:05Speaker 9: I don't think so.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:06Speaker 9: So there's been a couple of cases like that. But
- 24:09Speaker 9: you know, usually it's just walk down the street, someone's
- 24:12Speaker 9: sitting there, or I, you know, happen to be standing
- 24:15Speaker 9: in a in a in a hallway and someone is
- 24:17Speaker 9: standing next to me for more than five minutes and
- 24:20Speaker 9: then there comes a story.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it's I've talked to Bill Lynch again from HD
- 24:24Speaker 4: Media and the Gazette Mail about this series. What do
- 24:27Speaker 4: you call in it? Does it have a name? I mean,
- 24:28Speaker 4: I've read it every week, but have you call it anything?
- 24:30Speaker 9: Yeah, well, it's it's it's all part of my column,
- 24:32Speaker 9: which is called one Month at a Time. So and
- 24:35Speaker 9: the whole thing is just yeah, this month is just
- 24:37Speaker 9: meeting strangers now something or maybe a preview what's coming
- 24:42Speaker 9: interestingly with with the with the column has happened in
- 24:44Speaker 9: the past. Sometimes things kind of fall in my lap
- 24:47Speaker 9: that are related I have my own little teeny tiny
- 24:51Speaker 9: radio show that I do like Saturday nights for public broadcasting.
- 24:54Speaker 9: It's just music show called lost Ayleways. I have some
- 24:57Speaker 9: interesting listeners. I've been on the air for a while
- 25:00Speaker 9: to do Americana, Indie rock and stuff like that. So
- 25:03Speaker 9: I got a letter. Now, you know, in most cases feedback.
- 25:07Speaker 9: You know, I don't know what your feedback is, Like, yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 9: you probably get stuff on Facebook, and probably me not
- 25:13Speaker 9: so much. Right, So I make a joke about it, like,
- 25:15Speaker 9: you know, you can contact me here, you can find
- 25:17Speaker 9: me on Facebook. You can send me a letter, but
- 25:19Speaker 9: you're not gonna send me a letter because nobody sends
- 25:21Speaker 9: anybody letters anymore.
- 25:22Speaker 4: I got a letter.
- 25:24Speaker 9: It's from Keener Mountain Correctional Center.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Okay.
- 25:27Speaker 9: I love getting letters from prisoners. I get one like
- 25:30Speaker 9: every two years or so. So a stranger, but I
- 25:33Speaker 9: get to hear about his life and what happened to him.
- 25:36Speaker 9: And I checked it out because you can find out
- 25:38Speaker 9: what they did. So a stranger, stranger reaching out and
- 25:41Speaker 9: telling me part of his story, which in this case
- 25:44Speaker 9: involved quite a few hallucinogens being sold in about forty
- 25:49Speaker 9: one thousand dollars in cash he's got another sixteen months
- 25:53Speaker 9: to go on his sentence.
- 25:54Speaker 4: But so, how does somebody in this correctional facility find
- 25:57Speaker 4: out about your your radio show? He heard me, okay,
- 26:01Speaker 4: I mean just randomly.
- 26:02Speaker 9: It was just like, I guess, I guess, I guess
- 26:04Speaker 9: I'm I guess, I guess my radio program is approved
- 26:08Speaker 9: on a list or whatever. So he I guess he
- 26:10Speaker 9: has access to a radio at eight o'clock on was
- 26:13Speaker 9: it Friday? I should notice I pre record, so at
- 26:15Speaker 9: eight o'clock on a Friday night. Yeah, wow, that's interesting.
- 26:19Speaker 4: I've I actually have a letter hanging above my desk
- 26:23Speaker 4: upstairs that I got and I'm not going to call
- 26:25Speaker 4: the gentleman out because I appreciate it. He sent me
- 26:29Speaker 4: a letter. I'd been doing the show. I've been doing
- 26:30Speaker 4: the show for six years and a few months here
- 26:33Speaker 4: and and he sent me a letter and talked about
- 26:36Speaker 4: how fast I talk, and I said, for the love
- 26:40Speaker 4: of and it said something to the effective for the
- 26:42Speaker 4: love of God. Dave switched to DCAF. Now, I ain't
- 26:46Speaker 4: in the Dale Cooper realm of talking fast, but maybe
- 26:49Speaker 4: I do talk too fast, And so I thought, okay,
- 26:52Speaker 4: So I took it and I pasted it or taped
- 26:55Speaker 4: it above my desk and I look at it every day.
- 26:57Speaker 9: Well, I guess the inmate, which is interesting. He sent
- 27:00Speaker 9: me some ideas for things I can include on the show.
- 27:03Speaker 9: Top Grateful Dead. Really, I bet that was an interesting mix.
- 27:07Speaker 9: It was the Grateful Dead, Let's see Massive Attack, Let's see.
- 27:12Speaker 9: I did put one on the playlist. Keller Williams. So
- 27:17Speaker 9: it's a song called Freaker at the Speaker or something
- 27:20Speaker 9: like that. So, you know, it's a lot of jam
- 27:22Speaker 9: band stuff, but you know, it kind of makes sense.
- 27:23Speaker 9: And also for the time he's been in he's been
- 27:25Speaker 9: in for fourteen years.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Well, and so that's the kind of stories that you're
- 27:29Speaker 4: not necessarily going to get out on the streets, or
- 27:31Speaker 4: maybe you will.
- 27:32Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 27:33Speaker 1: So far, no one, no one is.
- 27:34Speaker 9: No one else in the streets has copped to being
- 27:36Speaker 9: in prison, but everybody but you know.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Yeah, the gavit said he was from Saudi Arabia, and
- 27:40Speaker 4: maybe he is.
- 27:40Speaker 9: Maybe he is, maybe he I don't know that that
- 27:43Speaker 9: southern Coalfield's accent and give.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Good that I was going to ask about that. So
- 27:48Speaker 4: are you from like the Boone County section of Saudi Arabia,
- 27:52Speaker 4: the Saudi Arabia section of Boone County. You know, there
- 27:54Speaker 4: was a lot of immigrants that came to West Virginia.
- 27:56Speaker 4: I don't usually it was Italian, it was okay, don't know.
- 27:59Speaker 4: It was a lot from not a lot in the
- 28:01Speaker 4: Middle East. No, no, just not a lot, not yet.
- 28:04Speaker 4: So I mean, and you and I were joking off
- 28:06Speaker 4: the air, but this, my wife tells me. He said,
- 28:09Speaker 4: you would watch the documentary of anybody. And that's usually
- 28:13Speaker 4: that's the exciting life that I live. On the weekends,
- 28:15Speaker 4: I'm watching somebody's It all started back in the day
- 28:18Speaker 4: with v H one behind the Music, and then it
- 28:21Speaker 4: went to thirty for thirties on ESPN. I'm a big
- 28:25Speaker 4: Southeastern Conference guy. Sec He's storied. I watch. I watch
- 28:30Speaker 4: all of the any of just about anybody. But to me,
- 28:33Speaker 4: more interesting is getting to know people that are real people,
- 28:38Speaker 4: you know, and just say, what is your story. You
- 28:40Speaker 4: may not have won the Heisman Trophy, you may not
- 28:42Speaker 4: have won a Grammy Award, but damn you've got a
- 28:44Speaker 4: You've got a good story.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 9: Well see, that's the funny thing. So you know, I've
- 28:50Speaker 9: been looking for something to keep as a hobby, right,
- 28:52Speaker 9: a hobby project. So this will as is nature with
- 28:55Speaker 9: you know, with the column one month and that's all
- 28:57Speaker 9: I do. But I've got a thing that I picked
- 29:01Speaker 9: up two years ago. I don't do anything with it.
- 29:04Speaker 9: I'd like to keep doing this, So I'm thinking that,
- 29:06Speaker 9: you know, do a pro bon and I'll just go
- 29:08Speaker 9: out and I until someone like I don't know it
- 29:10Speaker 9: pits me in the head with a hammer or something.
- 29:12Speaker 9: But until then, you know, I think this is like
- 29:15Speaker 9: a project that is an interest. You know, it's just
- 29:16Speaker 9: like kind of like an oral history of people in Charleston.
- 29:19Speaker 9: And we'll just do it for a while.
- 29:20Speaker 4: And Charleston does have some collect I mean, every place
- 29:23Speaker 4: has got to collect the Oh sure, I'm from southern
- 29:25Speaker 4: West Virginia, man, so I can't. I can tell you
- 29:27Speaker 4: stories all the time, but it is there are a
- 29:31Speaker 4: lot of different people in a capital city because people
- 29:34Speaker 4: come here for various reasons governmental work or business, and
- 29:38Speaker 4: some have a tendency to stay and some adult. And
- 29:40Speaker 4: I am used to coming from a small town that
- 29:43Speaker 4: when I talk to somebody, I was like, Okay, where
- 29:45Speaker 4: are you from. Well, in Logan County there's three areas
- 29:48Speaker 4: you're either from logan Man or Chapmanville, right, you know,
- 29:50Speaker 4: in the little communities. But when I moved over here,
- 29:53Speaker 4: you know, I was surprised. Not everybody's from I live
- 29:56Speaker 4: in Tayese Valley. Not everybody's from tays Valley. Actually people
- 29:59Speaker 4: actually nobody from Day's Valley that lives. They're from everywhere else.
- 30:02Speaker 4: And you to me, people's stories are just interesting how
- 30:06Speaker 4: they got there and people watching is one of my
- 30:08Speaker 4: all time favorite things to do.
- 30:10Speaker 9: Mine too. One thing that so far that it's happened
- 30:13Speaker 9: with everyone I've spoken to. I haven't heard anyone really
- 30:16Speaker 9: down on Charleston. I was expecting someone to be complaining
- 30:19Speaker 9: about you know, you can pick your point. You know
- 30:22Speaker 9: the streets are dirty, or you know they're there's homeless people,
- 30:25Speaker 9: or you know, jobs are It's so great you catch.
- 30:28Speaker 4: People from Regatta that nobody wants to see. That's always
- 30:31Speaker 4: my favorite thing.
- 30:31Speaker 9: Well, so far, I mean a whole month, and I've
- 30:34Speaker 9: talked to twenty people so far. I mean just some
- 30:37Speaker 9: of them. You know, I get more out of them
- 30:39Speaker 9: than others. But no one has like said so far
- 30:42Speaker 9: that they hate being here. You know, people who've been
- 30:45Speaker 9: here for forty fifty sixty seventy years. You know, you know,
- 30:49Speaker 9: people who would have seen Charleston when it was maybe
- 30:51Speaker 9: more populous and there's more things downtown.
- 30:54Speaker 1: No so far.
- 30:56Speaker 9: I mean, any minute now someone's gonna, you know, gonna
- 30:59Speaker 9: maybe break that. But the streak so far is that
- 31:01Speaker 9: people like it. And maybe that's because I'm seeing them
- 31:05Speaker 9: in places where they're you know, where they're happy to
- 31:06Speaker 9: shop at, or seeing them like, you know, near a festival.
- 31:10Speaker 9: I caught some folks at the end at the tail
- 31:12Speaker 9: end of at regatta. So but so far, everyone that
- 31:16Speaker 9: I've spoken to is pretty happy to be here, which
- 31:19Speaker 9: surprised me.
- 31:20Speaker 4: I'm just kind of interested when you if you're at
- 31:22Speaker 4: a place like Capital Market or at the regatta or whatever,
- 31:26Speaker 4: and you're standing there and you're looking at in the crowd.
- 31:28Speaker 4: Is there something that you see in that guy to
- 31:31Speaker 4: think he might have an interesting story? But you look
- 31:34Speaker 4: at this lady and say, well, probably not. And I mean,
- 31:38Speaker 4: what what's your thought process that makes you approach these
- 31:41Speaker 4: people to say that guy has got a good story.
- 31:44Speaker 4: This guy doesn't.
- 31:45Speaker 9: First off, they don't look like me, right, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 9: they're not wearing a comic book T shirt or a
- 31:51Speaker 9: you know, a random ball cap. They're not a middle
- 31:54Speaker 9: aged white guy. I have tried to avoid those because
- 31:57Speaker 9: that's me.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:59Speaker 9: Other that, you know, people who seem like they're different
- 32:02Speaker 9: than than where they're at. You know, I spoke to
- 32:05Speaker 9: a woman last weekend. She was African American working on
- 32:09Speaker 9: a laptop while everyone else was shopping, and I was like,
- 32:12Speaker 9: it's a Saturday afternoon, why are you doing that here?
- 32:16Speaker 9: And you know, she gave me a long explanation for
- 32:18Speaker 9: where she was from and who she was and it
- 32:20Speaker 9: and it was unusual. I didn't expect it. So typically
- 32:25Speaker 9: I'm looking for people who don't look like me or
- 32:28Speaker 9: seem like people that I would normally hang out with.
- 32:31Speaker 9: So I'm definitely definitely looking for things outside of you know,
- 32:35Speaker 9: my usual.
- 32:36Speaker 4: You know box right. It's fascinating stuff, man. And I
- 32:40Speaker 4: reached out to you when I because I you know,
- 32:42Speaker 4: I read the I read the first couple one.
- 32:44Speaker 9: I always read your.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Stuff, but I thought, now this is interesting and different
- 32:47Speaker 4: than I've been doing. Yeah, and uh, and I like it.
- 32:49Speaker 4: How long are you going to continue doing this?
- 32:51Speaker 6: Oh?
- 32:51Speaker 9: Like I said, I've got this blog thing that I'm
- 32:53Speaker 9: going to like pick up and keep doing, and I think, yeah,
- 32:56Speaker 9: the newspapers. I have to move on to something next
- 32:59Speaker 9: for you know, for August quickly. But this this one's
- 33:03Speaker 9: been fun, and you know, I feel like I'm getting insight.
- 33:06Speaker 9: I'm learning things. Not everything I'm learning is like, you know,
- 33:09Speaker 9: necessarily useful. You know, I like the folks. I guess
- 33:12Speaker 9: I'm talking true that we're in. I guess the paper
- 33:14Speaker 9: last weekend. You know, the one guy who who went
- 33:17Speaker 9: away from Charleston was dying to get out of here
- 33:19Speaker 9: when he was eighteen. He got his got his you know,
- 33:21Speaker 9: he's got his basketball scholarship, and he spent like fifty
- 33:24Speaker 9: years away from from forty five years away from Charleston.
- 33:27Speaker 9: Never wanted to come back, but that he did. And
- 33:28Speaker 9: he's like, I love being here. My family's here, my
- 33:31Speaker 9: old friends are still here. You know, the you know,
- 33:34Speaker 9: the guy who told me about falling in love with
- 33:36Speaker 9: his wife when he was in high school and they're
- 33:39Speaker 9: still together, and it's and it's the idea of growing together.
- 33:42Speaker 9: And I'm I'm thinking, you know, I've been divorced twice,
- 33:45Speaker 9: so you know, the the option of me like finding
- 33:48Speaker 9: someone when I'm in high school is gone. And you know,
- 33:52Speaker 9: I don't think of myself as moving back to Giles County, Virginia,
- 33:55Speaker 9: where I grew up. But you know, there's still kind
- 33:58Speaker 9: of wisdom in things, even if I don't think that
- 34:00Speaker 9: they are applicable to me. So that's really appealing to me.
- 34:05Speaker 9: I think that there's something that I'd like to pursue
- 34:07Speaker 9: a little while longer in some platform somewhere, so and
- 34:10Speaker 9: blog maybe.
- 34:11Speaker 4: And they break though in the in the actual newspaper
- 34:14Speaker 4: over the weekend editions, right correct. Okay, see, I'm the
- 34:17Speaker 4: guy that actually has a hard copy than is God
- 34:20Speaker 4: bless you, am I the you know you sound like
- 34:22Speaker 4: the late Doug scaff right now. Doug would come into
- 34:24Speaker 4: this studio from time to time and I would have
- 34:26Speaker 4: a copy of the Gazette Mail on the Wall Street
- 34:29Speaker 4: Journal here and he would say, you are single handedly
- 34:32Speaker 4: keeping keeping the the hard copies going, and I just
- 34:37Speaker 4: I like it. So I don't read your stuff until
- 34:40Speaker 4: til Saturday morning when I go out and get my
- 34:42Speaker 4: paper on Saturday morning, I don't read it till then.
- 34:44Speaker 4: So I mean, I'm so I'm probably available like three
- 34:46Speaker 4: days before online.
- 34:48Speaker 9: Well not quite that way, but at the same time,
- 34:50Speaker 9: you know, I do like a physical copy out. I
- 34:53Speaker 9: grew up on them every read the entertainment section every Wednesday,
- 34:57Speaker 9: the Frontoak Times. It was like I wasn't going going anywhere.
- 35:00Speaker 9: I was a fifteen year old care with their driver's license.
- 35:02Speaker 9: But I'd love to hear about what's happening in Rohonak.

- 38:16Speaker 4: zero eight. I just heard that promo for the All
- 38:17Speaker 4: Star Game. I was having this conversation with something somebody earlier.
- 38:20Speaker 4: I have always been a big fan of the All
- 38:22Speaker 4: Star Game in baseball, especially since I grew up in
- 38:25Speaker 4: the nineteen seventies, when you know, basically you didn't have
- 38:28Speaker 4: a whole lot of games to choose from, and you
- 38:30Speaker 4: didn't get to see players unless it was the World
- 38:32Speaker 4: Series or the All Star Game from teams like the
- 38:36Speaker 4: Red Sox or the Yankees or whatever. Here's what I
- 38:39Speaker 4: don't need. I'm talking about the television coverage. Okay, here's
- 38:41Speaker 4: what I don't need to have every player miked up.
- 38:45Speaker 4: You know, It's like, I actually just want to watch
- 38:48Speaker 4: the game. And I know Wilson told me this morning.
- 38:51Speaker 4: We were having this conversation on one of our conference calls.
- 38:54Speaker 4: We have and he said, you early are a Yes,
- 38:56Speaker 4: I'm an old man. I don't need to hear everybody
- 38:58Speaker 4: miked up. Just play the game. But that's just me
- 39:02Speaker 4: being mean speaking of sports. On the Saint Albans football story,
- 39:06Speaker 4: texts why I throw good money after bad money. The
- 39:09Speaker 4: market is spoken on Saint Albans football invested in the
- 39:11Speaker 4: other successful sports sports or other boys are more likely
- 39:15Speaker 4: to go to college to play baseball, that the boys
- 39:17Speaker 4: lift free from CTE and spinal injuries as a text, well,
- 39:21Speaker 4: something to be said for that. And I appreciate the text.
- 39:23Speaker 4: I just the story ever since I first heard about
- 39:26Speaker 4: it has kind of fascinated me because it's just amazing
- 39:29Speaker 4: to me that a school decides that Saint Albans has
- 39:32Speaker 4: the possibility of not having a football team. And and
- 39:36Speaker 4: I agree with what Coach Brown said earlier in the interview. Man,
- 39:39Speaker 4: it's like there is a I love going to high
- 39:43Speaker 4: school basketball games and baseball games, and when I was
- 39:46Speaker 4: in school and then after I love it. But there's
- 39:49Speaker 4: nothing like Friday night football, you know, I mean, there's
- 39:52Speaker 4: just nothing like it, and you know, I just I
- 39:56Speaker 4: hate to see it. I mean, the market will do
- 39:58Speaker 4: what the market will do. And I know we're talkingbout
- 40:00Speaker 4: high school sports. We probably shouldn't say market, but still
- 40:03Speaker 4: I get it, and I get what the text is saying.
- 40:04Speaker 4: But I hope they're able to worked something out to
- 40:07Speaker 4: Dave Islands Show on five any Live brought to you
- 40:08Speaker 4: inmpired by the all New Generations for It of Hurricane
- 40:11Speaker 4: Visit Generations for dot Com. We have a story posted
- 40:14Speaker 4: this morning at the WCHS Network page. And we all
- 40:18Speaker 4: remember the story the shots fired near Ladley Field during
- 40:24Speaker 4: a track meet back in early May. The accused in
- 40:28Speaker 4: the story twenty year old Jakai Harrison from Charleston. Now,
- 40:32Speaker 4: according to what was reported from the courtroom yesterday, Harrison's
- 40:36Speaker 4: going to enter a plea agreement with the prosecutor's office.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Now.
- 40:39Speaker 4: He was in the courtroom with Judge Taras Slango yesterday.
- 40:42Speaker 4: His attorney told the court that there was some sort
- 40:47Speaker 4: of an agreement pending a review of some video evidence
- 40:50Speaker 4: something like that. He was scheduled to stand trial on
- 40:54Speaker 4: charges of wanton endangerment with a firearm and there is
- 40:58Speaker 4: going to be another hearing this afternoon. Course will be
- 41:01Speaker 4: there Convertant, So I want to go back in time
- 41:05Speaker 4: just for a moment and other bear with me here.
- 41:09Speaker 4: Other than just the news aspect of it, this my
- 41:13Speaker 4: story here actually has a point. It was on May second,
- 41:18Speaker 4: around one o'clock or so in that afternoon, on a Saturday,
- 41:22Speaker 4: that this track meet was going on. It lately Charleston
- 41:24Speaker 4: Police Department says shots were fired from a driver that
- 41:28Speaker 4: was traveling on Piedmont Road. Now, they were able to
- 41:32Speaker 4: take video surveillance from a nearby business and they got
- 41:36Speaker 4: their guy or the accused shortly thereafter it. And look,
- 41:40Speaker 4: this was a terrible case. And it appeared that the guy,
- 41:44Speaker 4: the suspect here in Harrison, thought he was being followed
- 41:50Speaker 4: and opened fire. Now, the interesting thing here is this
- 41:57Speaker 4: was not a story about Laidley Fee to per se.
- 42:01Speaker 4: This could have happened in anybody's neighborhood. It could have
- 42:04Speaker 4: happened on Court or g It could have happened on
- 42:05Speaker 4: sixty four, any community here in the Canal Valley or
- 42:08Speaker 4: across the country. It just happened to be that this
- 42:12Speaker 4: guy allegedly was driving by ladley Field, felt he was
- 42:16Speaker 4: being followed and he opened fire. And in the world
- 42:19Speaker 4: we live in today, it's not hard to find out
- 42:21Speaker 4: who somebody is and so they were able to get
- 42:23Speaker 4: videos surveillance. He was taken in shortly there after. You
- 42:25Speaker 4: know the story. He's back in court and I guess
- 42:28Speaker 4: what will be a plea in Judge Silango's court room
- 42:31Speaker 4: one forty five this morning. My point in where I'm
- 42:34Speaker 4: going with this is and this has been the buzzword
- 42:38Speaker 4: with me over the last couple of days social media,
- 42:43Speaker 4: and I remember that day well, it was a Saturday afternoon.
- 42:48Speaker 4: I was not in this area. I was in Putnam County,
- 42:52Speaker 4: but I got an alert on my phone, one of
- 42:54Speaker 4: the news alerts shots fired, you know, near Ladley Field,
- 42:58Speaker 4: and the social media aspect of it, the inaccurate posting
- 43:05Speaker 4: by people who caused a whole lot more panic that
- 43:09Speaker 4: day because they were trying to play reporter saying that
- 43:13Speaker 4: it was inside the stadium, students and others were shot
- 43:19Speaker 4: and absolutely none of it was true, none of it.
- 43:23Speaker 4: But by the time it went too when this is
- 43:25Speaker 4: part of my rant over the last couple of days
- 43:27Speaker 4: on social media. I remember that well because I think
- 43:30Speaker 4: my wife and I were shopping or something. Let me
- 43:32Speaker 4: at Kroger and I got home and you know, started
- 43:36Speaker 4: looking around and was in contact with the news department here,
- 43:39Speaker 4: you know, seeing what I could do to help and whatever,
- 43:41Speaker 4: which was nothing, but you know, always offering. And I
- 43:44Speaker 4: saw these reports, you know, students shot at late and
- 43:48Speaker 4: absolutely none of it was true. Okay by people who
- 43:54Speaker 4: think they are reporters who have not been trained on
- 43:57Speaker 4: how to do this and whatever, and they called cause
- 44:01Speaker 4: they potentially caused what could demand a whole heck of
- 44:04Speaker 4: a lot more panic by just letting the police department
- 44:08Speaker 4: do their thing and letting train news professionals do their thing.
- 44:12Speaker 4: And so you know, again that's the takeaway from this
- 44:16Speaker 4: from me was I remember that day well and remember
- 44:18Speaker 4: thinking absolutely none of this is true what's being reported.
- 44:24Speaker 4: But so that's where I'm kind of That's why I'm
- 44:27Speaker 4: kind of taking a break from social media. One of

- 47:16Speaker 4: somebody for your get together, look them up on Facebook.
- 47:18Speaker 4: They'll do you a great job. It's nine fifty five
- 47:21Speaker 4: Dave Island Show in five Vidieline brownchom parted by Morgan Morgan.
- 47:23Speaker 4: If you're injured, hired Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury
- 47:26Speaker 4: law firm. A couple of texts here texts. So what
- 47:29Speaker 4: his lawyer's saying is, if I think I'm being followed,
- 47:31Speaker 4: I'm allowed to shoot anybody. Well, maybe perhaps I should
- 47:33Speaker 4: just drive my car to the front door of the
- 47:35Speaker 4: local police station. Yeah, I don't. I mean, I remember
- 47:38Speaker 4: the case and I followed a little bit, but I
- 47:41Speaker 4: don't know what his attorney saying sounds like the Carmelo
- 47:46Speaker 4: Anthony killing of Austin metcalfs as a Texter and said
- 47:49Speaker 4: that Metcalf was threatening him, so we stabbed him. At
- 47:52Speaker 4: the video evidence of twenty one eyewitnesses testified that it
- 47:55Speaker 4: never happened, says a texture tex Imagine that folks still
- 47:59Speaker 4: don't understand how properly use their First and Second Amendment
- 48:01Speaker 4: rights in America. Go figure, huh? Which we could all
- 48:04Speaker 4: take a break from guns and now eighteen year olds
- 48:06Speaker 4: can legally carry concealed weapons, but don't let them type
- 48:09Speaker 4: some nonsense on social media might get someone killed with words.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Coming up later today at produced Midday thirteen News and
- 48:16Speaker 4: Tonight Live, anchor Aman to bear an ab on assign
- 48:18Speaker 4: of the day, but she's contributing to the show in
- 48:21Speaker 4: various ways, some interviews that she has done. Now, for
- 48:23Speaker 4: my part, Jeff Jenkins will have the news. Dave Wilson
- 48:26Speaker 4: will stop by the commentary. We are going to talk
- 48:29Speaker 4: to the State Republican Party chair Josh Holstein on the
- 48:32Speaker 4: show today. We're going to talk a little bit about AI.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Did you happen to see this story out of the
- 48:38Speaker 4: Huntington city council meeting last night. This meeting went till
- 48:42Speaker 4: four a m. This morning, seriously, and it all has
- 48:47Speaker 4: to do with these flock cameras. Now, these are all
- 48:53Speaker 4: encompassing cameras that the city of Huntington voted last night
- 48:59Speaker 4: the council to allow these in their city. And they're
- 49:02Speaker 4: in various cities I'm learning in the state of West Virginia,
- 49:07Speaker 4: not just across the country. And if you do a
- 49:09Speaker 4: little deep dive into this company, I did a little
- 49:12Speaker 4: bit of it last night, these cameras, So it depends
- 49:16Speaker 4: on which system that you go with. If you go
- 49:19Speaker 4: with the high end, which I don't know that Huntington did,
- 49:22Speaker 4: I mean they can pretty much when you're driving by
- 49:24Speaker 4: on the streets, they can pretty much tell everything except
- 49:27Speaker 4: for blood type. I mean your vehicle license obviously, your picture,
- 49:32Speaker 4: the people that are in the car with you, the
- 49:33Speaker 4: ven numbers, so on and so forth. And it's been
- 49:36Speaker 4: very controversial in Huntingson. There were protesters outside city hall.
- 49:39Speaker 4: I was talking having a text conversation earlier with the
- 49:42Speaker 4: mayor of huntings and Patrick Ferrell. Hope to get him
- 49:44Speaker 4: on midday to day, but unfortunately he's going to be
- 49:45Speaker 4: out of town. He is going to join us though
- 49:47Speaker 4: on the show either Thursday or Friday on Intro News
- 49:50Speaker 4: Midday about this. They did vote to pass this. This
- 49:52Speaker 4: meeting went on till four a m. This morning about
- 49:57Speaker 4: these cameras. So I am going to talk a little
- 49:59Speaker 4: bit about that on the show. Again, we'll have Mayor
- 50:00Speaker 4: Ferrell on the show probably Thursday or Friday. So that's
- 50:04Speaker 4: just a couple of things we're going to get into
- 50:06Speaker 4: on the show today. On this show tomorrow, we're going
- 50:08Speaker 4: to get a little bit more info about the efforts
- 50:10Speaker 4: to replace Lance Wheeler on the Kadaha County Commission. Of course,
- 50:14Speaker 4: he resigned. He's running for well, I actually opted not
- 50:18Speaker 4: to run for reelection because he was appointed. Well, no,
- 50:21Speaker 4: let me back up, opted not to run for reelection
- 50:23Speaker 4: because he made himself a candidate for state Senate and
- 50:25Speaker 4: he won in the primaries, so he's moving on to
- 50:28Speaker 4: the general election. But he was going to finish out
- 50:30Speaker 4: his term. But he was appointed to be the director
- 50:32Speaker 4: of the Kannah Ambulance Service Authority, so did he resigned
- 50:36Speaker 4: from that position. So basically somebody has got to finish
- 50:39Speaker 4: out his term. Six names will go before sitting commissioners
- 50:44Speaker 4: Selango and Tenant to make a decision on that. We'll
- 50:47Speaker 4: get into that story coming up a little bit later on. Plus,
- 50:49Speaker 4: our good friend Millie Snyder will be on the show
- 50:52Speaker 4: tomorrow as well. Do you want to remind you that
