- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for a new episode of Learn Dutch with Fexingo? Luna: Yeah, I'm ready! Last episode we did the farmers market. I still think about those apples. Lucas: Oh, I know! Today we're going to talk about where things are. Prepositions — small words that show location. Luna: Like 'in', 'on', 'under'? That kind of thing? Lucas: Exactly. We'll start with three: in, op, onder. In Dutch, 'in' means in. Luna: In. Lucas: Yes. For example, 'Het is in de doos.' — It is in the box. Luna: Het is in de doos. Lucas: Good. Now 'op' means on. 'Het boek is op tafel.' — The book is on the table. Luna: Het boek is op tafel. Lucas: Perfect. And 'onder' means under. 'De kat is onder de stoel.' — The cat is under the chair. Luna: De kat is onder de stoel. That's cute. So I imagine a cat hiding under a chair. Lucas: Right. Let's practice just the words: in, op, onder. Luna: In, op, onder. Lucas: Now try a sentence: 'Het is in de doos.' Luna: Het is in de doos. Lucas: Another: 'Het boek is op tafel.' Luna: Het boek is op tafel. Lucas: And 'De kat is onder de stoel.' Luna: De kat is onder de stoel. Lucas: Awesome. Now let's imagine a little scene. There's a box, a table, and a chair. I'll put a pen in the box. 'De pen is in de doos.' Luna: De pen is in de doos. Lucas: Now I put the pen on the table. 'De pen is op tafel.' Luna: De pen is op tafel. Lucas: Now I put the pen under the chair. 'De pen is onder de stoel.' Luna: De pen is onder de stoel. Okay, I think I've got it. Let me try all three in a row. In, op, onder. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: Het is in de doos. Het boek is op tafel. De kat is onder de stoel. Lucas: That's really good! Luna: De hond is onder het bed. I love that image. Lucas: Okay, let's do a quick review. I'll say the English, you say the Dutch. 'In.' Luna: In. Lucas: On. Luna: Op. Lucas: Under. Luna: Onder.
