- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to episode eight of Revellio for December twelfth,
- 0:13Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. I'm Amy, I'm Nicole.
- 0:32Speaker 2: And I'm Tom.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Hey, I'm back.
- 0:36Speaker 2: How are you guys? Hey?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Yeah, lostical for a second.
- 0:41Speaker 3: No, she's reaturing I wasn't losing. I mean I wasn't lost.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I was at C but I was. I was lost
- 0:46Speaker 3: at C. No.
- 0:47Speaker 4: But thanks to Steph for jumping on and filling in
- 0:51Speaker 4: while I was on vacation.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yes, she did agree. Job.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We had some interesting Yeah, we talked a lot about
- 1:00Speaker 2: Greek mythology and animals and theories, crazy theories that were sold.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Can not wait to listen, So yeah, and this episode
- 1:16Speaker 2: will be discussing Christmas in the Wizarding World, but first.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Listening to w W in the Wizarding Wireless Network.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Now for the latest headlines.
- 1:31Speaker 4: So we're going to have a bit of a slower
- 1:34Speaker 4: news this episode. So not too too much has happened
- 1:38Speaker 4: since the last episode, but we did learn that Mina
- 1:41Speaker 4: Lima is going to be opening another shop in Edinburgh, Scotland,
- 1:46Speaker 4: my old home. So if you find yourself in the
- 1:50Speaker 4: gorgeous city of Edinburgh, definitely had to Coburn Street it's
- 1:53Speaker 4: in Old Town and that's where the shop will be
- 1:56Speaker 4: open from ten am to six pm daily. And this
- 2:00Speaker 4: is exciting because, like, Aedinburgh is such a good spot
- 2:03Speaker 4: for the shop, especially because there's so much of Edinburgh
- 2:07Speaker 4: that inspired Harry Potter and being in old Town those
- 2:11Speaker 4: streets are just was Victoria Street that was kind of
- 2:14Speaker 4: the inspiration for diagon Alley, but all of those windy
- 2:18Speaker 4: streets in old Town are just it's just the perfect
- 2:21Speaker 4: setting for the shop. So I'm glad to see that
- 2:23Speaker 4: they're opening a new location.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Nice, and it also makes a lot of sense,
- 2:28Speaker 2: like you said, because a lot of the stories inspired
- 2:31Speaker 2: by Scotland in general, so it only you know, it
- 2:35Speaker 2: only makes sense that they have a store there and
- 2:39Speaker 2: exciting exciting to visit.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Yes, And then the other thing is you know, of
- 2:45Speaker 4: course Wizards of Baking it's still on. And wanted to
- 2:48Speaker 4: point out that in episode two there was a little
- 2:52Speaker 4: nod to Revellio, which is obviously an important thing for us.
- 2:58Speaker 4: And in this episode all of the baked goods were
- 3:02Speaker 4: inspired by gringot so they were on the green Goot
- 3:04Speaker 4: set at the studio tour. Warwick Davis came on as
- 3:07Speaker 4: a guest and this week, part of the requirement for
- 3:12Speaker 4: you know, their challenge of what they had to create
- 3:15Speaker 4: was they had to include an additional enchanting effect. So
- 3:18Speaker 4: if you haven't watched the show, they always have to
- 3:20Speaker 4: incorporate some kind of enchanting magical effect into their show piece,
- 3:26Speaker 4: and so this one they had an additional one that
- 3:28Speaker 4: was inspired by the Rebellio spell. And the teams had
- 3:33Speaker 4: to incorporate at least one concealed component into their show
- 3:37Speaker 4: piece that was going to be revealed, you know when
- 3:40Speaker 4: they do their big here's our here's our show piece.
- 3:45Speaker 4: So yeah, nice, Yeah, it was really cool. And my
- 3:50Speaker 4: favorite team is One and Elizabeth, and they won this
- 3:54Speaker 4: episode with their like you know, they kind of came
- 3:57Speaker 4: out on top and they had this really cool they did,
- 4:00Speaker 4: if I remember right, they did the like teller desk,
- 4:03Speaker 4: like the bank teller desk, and they concealed a dragon
- 4:08Speaker 4: that like breathes like smoke underneath the desk and that
- 4:11Speaker 4: was like what was revealed.
- 4:13Speaker 3: It was really cool.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So is it like revealed like a practical thing or
- 4:18Speaker 2: what do they have to like use a like a
- 4:20Speaker 2: lighter to reveal it? Like different er do.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Some of it because it's like some of it is
- 4:26Speaker 4: like mechanical elements, like all of a sudden, like something
- 4:29Speaker 4: will come out, and I think they don't. The way
- 4:31Speaker 4: the show was edited, you don't always get to see
- 4:35Speaker 4: I think, how they make some of those effects come
- 4:37Speaker 4: to life.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And I can't fully because I'm caught.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Up, and I think they have three or four episodes
- 4:42Speaker 4: out now, so I can't like fully remember how they
- 4:45Speaker 4: they did it. But they had like a part of
- 4:47Speaker 4: the decks desk that just came down. But yeah, I'm
- 4:50Speaker 4: really curious how they make the cakes move and they
- 4:55Speaker 4: make all these like kind of enchanting elements even work
- 4:58Speaker 4: because there is some kind of like mechanical component that's
- 5:02Speaker 4: built in.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really cool intreat.
- 5:09Speaker 3: I wish I could remember what the other what the
- 5:11Speaker 3: other teams.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Did for that up, but now like all the episodes
- 5:17Speaker 4: are like blurring in my mind about like what they
- 5:20Speaker 4: what they did.
- 5:22Speaker 3: But it was like would that would that kind.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Of like effect like an episode, Oh jeez, it's the
- 5:29Speaker 4: last episode that came out. They were on the Diagon
- 5:31Speaker 4: Alley set and one of the teams did had Oli
- 5:35Speaker 4: vanders and they made like like their show piece was
- 5:38Speaker 4: they made like wand boxes out of chocolate or something,
- 5:41Speaker 4: and then wands out of chocolate, and then when you
- 5:44Speaker 4: went up to it, the wand would choose you and
- 5:47Speaker 4: it would it would slide out from like the shelf
- 5:50Speaker 4: and that was it choosing you. So like, yeah, clearly
- 5:53Speaker 4: there's like some kind of like mechanical thing built in.
- 5:58Speaker 4: And then like another one of the teams for that
- 6:00Speaker 4: episode had like the Weasley Shop, and they made a
- 6:04Speaker 4: couple different They made like the chattering teeth and then
- 6:07Speaker 4: the screaming yo yo and it's like they their show
- 6:10Speaker 4: piece was like basically like the hat lifting up and
- 6:13Speaker 4: then the like screaming yo yo would come up from
- 6:15Speaker 4: the bottom and reveal itself. That was a different episode though,
- 6:18Speaker 4: that wasn't the rebellio thing, but it would come up.
- 6:20Speaker 3: So like they definitely incorporate.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Some kind of thing to make things move in their
- 6:27Speaker 4: show pieces.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah, these people are creative, Like I don't know how
- 6:31Speaker 2: they come up with these gimmicks, and you know, it's
- 6:34Speaker 2: pretty amazing what they can produce. So yeah, I'm definitely intrigued.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I need to catch up on the.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Episodes me too. I need to catch up on the
- 6:44Speaker 2: series itself.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Like yeah, because I also, like I am so curious like
- 6:48Speaker 4: your guys' thoughts on like some of the teams, because
- 6:51Speaker 4: like it's interesting because there's like this one team that
- 6:56Speaker 4: I just think they just don't get along. They're still there,
- 6:59Speaker 4: but they just like the one guy it just gets
- 7:02Speaker 4: you could just tell he gets so annoyed by the
- 7:04Speaker 4: other the other guy. They're very different personalities, and I think,
- 7:09Speaker 4: like I'll be very surprised if like one and Elizabeth
- 7:12Speaker 4: don't win the whole thing. Like they just get along
- 7:15Speaker 4: so well, like they compliment so well. Week after week
- 7:18Speaker 4: they've won like the top like they well because like
- 7:23Speaker 4: they now they do like where they duel against the
- 7:26Speaker 4: teams and then there's like a top three in a
- 7:29Speaker 4: bottom three or like a top two and bottom two,
- 7:32Speaker 4: and then a team goes home from that bottom. But
- 7:36Speaker 4: then one team has picked as like the ultimate like
- 7:39Speaker 4: quote unquote winner of that episode and they basically win
- 7:43Speaker 4: like an advantage for the next episode, like for example,
- 7:49Speaker 4: the Wars one week where Elizabeth and Juan when they won,
- 7:52Speaker 4: they they basically were given the next episode where they
- 7:56Speaker 4: could it was like a petrificus totala and they could
- 8:01Speaker 4: call it at any time, and it would freeze one
- 8:04Speaker 4: member of the team for ten minutes, so we would
- 8:07Speaker 4: essentially slow all the teams down because they only had
- 8:09Speaker 4: one member. So like, when they win the episode, they
- 8:13Speaker 4: win a advantage for like the next episode. So Elizabeth
- 8:18Speaker 4: and Watt have like won the last two times they've
- 8:20Speaker 4: done that, so there's really cool.
- 8:23Speaker 3: They were the team.
- 8:24Speaker 4: If you've watched episode one, they were the team that
- 8:27Speaker 4: did the Patronis cake with the I think it was
- 8:33Speaker 4: the Stallion. Yeah, I believe it was them. That that's
- 8:36Speaker 4: the team that I'm referring to.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that'll be my homework for next episode. Let's
- 8:43Speaker 1: catch up on the baking show. I know our graphic designer, Carolyn,
- 8:49Speaker 1: her daughter is super into it, and she's recorded us
- 8:54Speaker 1: a couple of review videos and they're so cute. We're
- 8:57Speaker 1: going to post them to patreons.
- 8:58Speaker 5: So I'm so excited to say them, so excited to
- 9:01Speaker 5: see them, especially because I have so many thoughts and
- 9:04Speaker 5: so like, yeah, I just need to know her thoughts.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I love hearing her talk about it.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, we need to catch up. It's definitely an interesting topic.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah, catch up.
- 9:16Speaker 4: I think the next episode, well, Obviously, we're recording this
- 9:18Speaker 4: on December fourth, so the next episode when this episode
- 9:22Speaker 4: comes out, will be a different episode. But at the
- 9:24Speaker 4: time of recording, the next episode is in the Forbidden Forest,
- 9:30Speaker 4: which is a set that's been added since the last
- 9:32Speaker 4: time I was at the Studio Tour, as well as
- 9:34Speaker 4: the Green Gods, Like I never got to see that either,
- 9:37Speaker 4: because they added that after the fact.
- 9:39Speaker 1: But that's the cool part about this show is it's
- 9:42Speaker 1: not only a baking show, but it's showcasing different parts
- 9:44Speaker 1: of the studio Tour, which I think is very cool.
- 9:48Speaker 4: It's like kind of like a big, nice little ad
- 9:51Speaker 4: for like, this is why you want to come see
- 9:53Speaker 4: the Studio Tour, because it just is showing all the
- 9:57Speaker 4: different areas, and they do a really good job incorporating
- 10:00Speaker 4: those different areas with like what that week's task.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Is going to be.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just really I think they just did a
- 10:09Speaker 4: really good job with the show. It's really well done.
- 10:11Speaker 4: And I read recently a review online that it's been
- 10:14Speaker 4: very well received.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Nice.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Yeah, but that was all that I really kind of
- 10:21Speaker 4: had for the news. I couldn't pass up including that Revellio.
- 10:25Speaker 4: I got was so excited when I was watching the
- 10:28Speaker 4: show and they were like, we're going to do this
- 10:29Speaker 4: inspired by the Rebellio chart, and I was just just like,
- 10:32Speaker 4: oh my goodness.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I think I like texted Amy right away. Did you
- 10:37Speaker 3: if you watched the show? They're doing Revellio So.
- 10:40Speaker 1: They're definitely doing that because of us. Obviously, Yeah, we're famous,
- 10:44Speaker 1: no doubt, all right, and that is everything we have
- 10:50Speaker 1: for the news. So our main discussion on this episode
- 10:57Speaker 1: is Christmas and the Wizarding World, which Christmas we've already
- 11:02Speaker 1: talked about Halloween and Christmas gets a very similar treatment
- 11:07Speaker 1: in regards to a lot of stuff happens on this
- 11:10Speaker 1: holiday in the series. So this will be a fun one.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I'm excited about this. I've got my Ron sweater on.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I'm ready to go.
- 11:21Speaker 4: And obviously very timely, yes, with Christmas being in a
- 11:26Speaker 4: couple of weeks.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, okay, So I figured we should start off
- 11:35Speaker 1: with how the holiday is celebrated in the series and
- 11:39Speaker 1: then dive into what happens on each of the Christmases
- 11:43Speaker 1: we see in the books. Good so Wizards in the
- 11:49Speaker 1: UK seem to celebrate the holiday pretty similarly to Muggles.
- 11:53Speaker 1: There's Christmas trees, decorating the Great Hall. At Hogwarts, there's
- 11:58Speaker 1: school breaks for the holiday, a families gather for dinner,
- 12:03Speaker 1: or for those that stay at Hogwarts, there's a school
- 12:06Speaker 1: gathering for dinner presents are exchanged. There's also different traditions
- 12:14Speaker 1: that are specific to wizards, like wizard crackers, which are
- 12:19Speaker 1: filled with things like hats with their chest sets, mice,
- 12:24Speaker 1: all sorts of stuff, Nichole's favorite mice. So there's a
- 12:30Speaker 1: lot of I mean, I'm telling you ever since actually
- 12:37Speaker 1: the very first time I met Nicole there was a
- 12:40Speaker 1: mouse incident in her car. Oh my god, I forgot
- 12:45Speaker 1: about that was my introduction to you, was you getting
- 12:48Speaker 1: out of my car saying hi to me, panicking because
- 12:52Speaker 1: there was a mouse in your car. And that's it. Wow,
- 12:55Speaker 1: So the mouse flore is real here.
- 12:57Speaker 4: It is Cinderella's so or snow white whichever. Well, so
- 13:05Speaker 4: it would be my luck that I would get the
- 13:06Speaker 4: wizard cracker.
- 13:07Speaker 1: That, yeah, I feel like that's fitting.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Yeah, but I wonder if it's because it's like because
- 13:15Speaker 4: obviously Christmas crackers are a thing that like muggles do
- 13:19Speaker 4: as well, but it seems like for wizards they have
- 13:22Speaker 4: just a little bit of like magical touch to them.
- 13:24Speaker 4: So I'm really curious, like what the like mice and
- 13:27Speaker 4: the Wizard crackers are. I kind of think of like
- 13:29Speaker 4: chocolate frogs almost, you know how they're like obviously not
- 13:33Speaker 4: real frogs, but they're enchanted in a way.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I never thought about that. That would make sense.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Otherwise I have just got a bunch of mice running around.
- 13:45Speaker 3: That's awful.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't want that.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Everybody gets scabbers.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Like so, Wizard Entertainers also have holiday specials such as
- 14:01Speaker 1: Celestina Warback, who we know is Molly's favorite, So that's
- 14:06Speaker 1: kind of fun. That's like a little parallel to Muggle
- 14:10Speaker 1: life with all these holiday specials that happen. We also
- 14:15Speaker 1: know the Great Hall is decorated very specifically with twelve
- 14:20Speaker 1: Christmas trees, which I thought was kind of fun. So
- 14:25Speaker 1: why twelve? Probably to align with the twelve Days of
- 14:30Speaker 1: Christmas and Christian theology. The twelve days start on December
- 14:35Speaker 1: twenty fifth and end on January sixth, marking the time
- 14:39Speaker 1: it takes the Three Wise Men to reach the Manger
- 14:42Speaker 1: after Christ is born. So there's a little added level
- 14:47Speaker 1: of symbolism. We know, we love our symbolism. The twelve
- 14:51Speaker 1: there that would be my guess as to why twelve.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Makes sense.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, so, just like Halloween, which we discussed on episode five,
- 15:04Speaker 1: a lot happens on Christmas in the books, and it
- 15:08Speaker 1: really lays the groundwork for the plot, and it places
- 15:11Speaker 1: a lot of little pieces in there that play a
- 15:14Speaker 1: larger role later on. And actually, while I was putting
- 15:19Speaker 1: this list together, I did start to notice a trend
- 15:22Speaker 1: at least in like the earlier books of things that
- 15:26Speaker 1: happen on Christmas tend to have a little connection to
- 15:31Speaker 1: the end of that book, particularly, which I thought was
- 15:36Speaker 1: kind of interesting. Books six and seven are kind of
- 15:40Speaker 1: hard for me to pinpoint, so when we get there,
- 15:43Speaker 1: maybe you guys have some ideas. But the first five
- 15:46Speaker 1: I was like, oh, yeah, like this makes sense. So
- 15:51Speaker 1: starting with nineteen ninety one, in The Sorcerer's Stone, Harry
- 15:57Speaker 1: and the Weasleys remain at Hogwarts during the Christmas holidays.
- 16:02Speaker 1: This is when we see Harry receive his first real
- 16:05Speaker 1: Christmas gifts, the sweater from Missus Weasley and the wooden
- 16:09Speaker 1: flute from Hagrid. And Harry also receives the invisibility cloak
- 16:14Speaker 1: and discovers the mirror of aerosaid while using it. So
- 16:20Speaker 1: the connection to the end of that particular book here
- 16:24Speaker 1: is the mirror of aerosaid. It's obviously very important in
- 16:29Speaker 1: the end of the book to get the Sorcerer's Stone,
- 16:32Speaker 1: as is the flute because that's what they use in
- 16:35Speaker 1: the book to lull Fluffy to sleep. So we know
- 16:40Speaker 1: the book is the flute, the movie's the harp.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But yeah, so.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Kind of cool a little.
- 16:47Speaker 2: And the video game is a is a flu too.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Yes, it is. The video game goes with the book, Cannon.
- 16:54Speaker 3: You have to see what the TV show does.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Hopefully the TV show will go with the flu No,
- 16:59Speaker 4: that's saying and obviously too. I think the other parallel
- 17:02Speaker 4: to with this one is even just the importance with
- 17:05Speaker 4: the like I mean, just the importance of the invisibility
- 17:09Speaker 4: cloak in general, and the fact that it's like that
- 17:12Speaker 4: first Christmas that he receives it, and obviously when he
- 17:15Speaker 4: receives it, we don't understand the impact that it's going
- 17:18Speaker 4: to have in the future, but really kind of setting
- 17:22Speaker 4: the stage there, and it's very clever that it's he
- 17:26Speaker 4: receives it on this holiday.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and actually thinking about that, which I hadn't really
- 17:32Speaker 1: thought about this much before. He receives the invisibility cloak
- 17:37Speaker 1: on his first Christmas at Hogwarts, and then we get
- 17:42Speaker 1: the scene in Deathly Hallows in the Godrechs Hollow Cemetery
- 17:48Speaker 1: on Christmas Eve, the Peveril gravestone makes an appearance there,
- 17:56Speaker 1: its first appearance. Really, so there's also first book, last
- 18:01Speaker 1: book connection and I'm jumping way ahead, but this is
- 18:07Speaker 1: just triggering in my brain what the connection is to
- 18:10Speaker 1: the end of the Deathly Hallows book, the Peveril Stone,
- 18:15Speaker 1: the end the hollows, right, kind of.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's both Chris Aron Christmas and.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, the first Hollow he receives.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. So then in nineteen ninety two, in the
- 18:38Speaker 1: Chamber of Secrets, Harry, Ron, and Hermione all stay at
- 18:42Speaker 1: Hogwarts for Christmas. Hermione finishes brewing the Polyjuice potion on
- 18:47Speaker 1: Christmas Day and Hermione transforms partially into a cat and
- 18:53Speaker 1: spends the rest of holiday break in the hospital wing.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Harry and Ron transform into Crab and go and sneak
- 19:01Speaker 1: into the Slytherin common room to interrogate Malfoy. They learn
- 19:05Speaker 1: he's not the heir of Slytherin, so the connection to
- 19:10Speaker 1: the end of the book. Here they were right by
- 19:14Speaker 1: the entrance of the Chamber of Secrets the entire time
- 19:16Speaker 1: that they were brewing the polyjuice potion, and they actually
- 19:21Speaker 1: take the polyjuice potion in the presence of Moaning Myrtle,
- 19:25Speaker 1: who was victim of the Basilisk, who had a lot
- 19:28Speaker 1: of answers that they just didn't think to ask yet.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I get it.
- 19:37Speaker 4: If they had asked her, then then the book would
- 19:39Speaker 4: have probably ended way sooner than it did exactly.
- 19:43Speaker 3: But no, that's an interesting connection.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I never really like thought of that, Like, I mean,
- 19:48Speaker 4: obviously it's very clear, like we're going.
- 19:50Speaker 3: To stick them right in this bathroom. And of course it.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Made sense to them because they're like, well, no one
- 19:55Speaker 4: goes in this bathroom because of moaning Myrtle, so this
- 19:58Speaker 4: is a safe place for us to do it. But
- 20:01Speaker 4: it's kind of like all the answers you need are
- 20:04Speaker 4: literally right there in front of you.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yeah, very interesting that. Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 4: I never kind of really put that connection, even with
- 20:13Speaker 4: all of that to Christmas Day too.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, the same time, Harry had to learn that he
- 20:19Speaker 2: could speak parcel tongue because otherwise he would never got
- 20:23Speaker 2: into the Chamber of Secrets in the first place, so
- 20:25Speaker 2: I think a lot of things had to unfold for
- 20:28Speaker 2: this moment to finally arrive. So yeah, yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So then in nineteen ninety three, in The Prisoner of
- 20:40Speaker 1: as Command, Harry Brown and her money I'll stay at
- 20:44Speaker 1: Hogwarts again, we get to see hogsbeade at Christmas time,
- 20:47Speaker 1: which is great. It's described as covered in snow, with
- 20:52Speaker 1: holly wreaths on the doors and enchanted candles on the trees,
- 20:59Speaker 1: very magical. So on this Christmas, Harry receives the firebolt
- 21:06Speaker 1: as an anonymous gift, and Hermione, suspecting correctly that it
- 21:12Speaker 1: was sent by Sirius Black, reports it to McGonagall and
- 21:15Speaker 1: gets it confiscated, and Harry throws a little tantrum even
- 21:21Speaker 1: though Hermione's correct and trying to protect him.
- 21:25Speaker 4: I completely forgot that that's how it happened in the book,
- 21:28Speaker 4: because it's like I just feel like I've seen like
- 21:31Speaker 4: Preserve Azkaban movies so many times, and obviously he doesn't
- 21:34Speaker 4: receive it at Christmas time, and you know it ends
- 21:37Speaker 4: with the whole flying and his face blurring in the
- 21:39Speaker 4: camera at the end. So yeah, I completely forgot about that.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they have this falling out that's kind of funny.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Harry's really mad at her for doing it, so they
- 21:52Speaker 2: don't talk to each other for a while. That was
- 21:56Speaker 2: so interesting to read.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Harry's such an idiot though, Like, seriously, you're gonna accept
- 22:01Speaker 1: these random anonymous gifts just because it's like a fancy,
- 22:05Speaker 1: expensive racing room, like.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Showing people on your doorstep, well, right when he literally
- 22:12Speaker 4: has multiple people out there trying to kill him, well,
- 22:17Speaker 4: or that he thinks, you know, obviously, at this point,
- 22:19Speaker 4: he still thinks that Sirius is out.
- 22:20Speaker 1: To kill him, and he'd already almost then killed during
- 22:25Speaker 1: a quidditch match on the chinst broom, like.
- 22:30Speaker 3: He was just he was so enamored by that shiny
- 22:33Speaker 3: new broom.
- 22:34Speaker 2: M M yeah, oh Harry, but I'll he could think
- 22:38Speaker 2: of was Hermione ratting him out to McGonagall and feeling
- 22:42Speaker 2: betrayed when.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Obviously she was thinking about his best interests and just
- 22:46Speaker 4: wanted to make sure that everything was okay with it
- 22:49Speaker 4: before he got on it.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And then you've got Ron. He was just mad by extension.
- 22:58Speaker 1: He's not involved, but he's like to be mad because
- 23:01Speaker 1: if there's an argument I want to be in.
- 23:02Speaker 4: It, and I mean, of course he's not going to
- 23:07Speaker 4: take hermiony side in it.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Never.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I hope that still comes up like in their marriage,
- 23:14Speaker 3: like to this day.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Just like, do you remember all those years ago when
- 23:17Speaker 4: I was just trying to look out for Harry and
- 23:20Speaker 4: you were mad at me because you just wanted to
- 23:24Speaker 4: turn on the fancy new broom that could have killed you, right,
- 23:31Speaker 4: because it's it's just it is funny because it's like,
- 23:33Speaker 4: right when you compare that whole moment right to like
- 23:36Speaker 4: how it happens in the movie, it's so different because
- 23:39Speaker 4: it's like in the movie, it's at the end they
- 23:42Speaker 4: know it's from Sirius because he puts in the little
- 23:45Speaker 4: you know, feather from Buckbeek, and it's this whole happy,
- 23:47Speaker 4: joyous moment, you know, And it's it's very interesting that
- 23:53Speaker 4: they decided to kind of do it that way, I think,
- 23:55Speaker 4: because visually it was a it was a visually good
- 23:57Speaker 4: way to end the film, but definitely a big change
- 24:02Speaker 4: from how it.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Happened in the book.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, this one is kind of harder to like
- 24:11Speaker 1: connect to the ending of the book itself, but I mean,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I guess the connection is Serious did send the Broom,
- 24:19Speaker 1: but he ends up innocent. I don't know, it's kind
- 24:22Speaker 1: of doesn't really follow the other ones.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I think it.
- 24:25Speaker 4: I mean, I think it does because I think that it, like,
- 24:29Speaker 4: especially when you learn after the fact that it was
- 24:32Speaker 4: from Sirius, it's kind of this.
- 24:36Speaker 3: You know, foreshadowing that.
- 24:40Speaker 4: He's not the person that you think he is, you know,
- 24:43Speaker 4: and it obviously there wasn't any mal intent with the
- 24:48Speaker 4: broom or anything like that, and it's just it's kind
- 24:51Speaker 4: of this, yeah, this foreshadow of his connection and care
- 24:54Speaker 4: for Harry, which obviously comes to light at the end
- 24:57Speaker 4: of the book and you learn all about it, and
- 24:59Speaker 4: you learn all about that past. So I think it
- 25:01Speaker 4: does still have that just that connection because it was
- 25:07Speaker 4: given to Harry by Sirius and again and at the
- 25:12Speaker 4: end of the book you learn why. You learn why
- 25:14Speaker 4: Serious would want to give Harry a gift like that.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Right, that's true because you figure out the James connection.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And yeah. So then moving on to nineteen ninety four
- 25:32Speaker 1: in The Goblet of Fire, obviously we have the Yule
- 25:35Speaker 1: Ball that takes place on Christmas in this book. During
- 25:40Speaker 1: the Yule Ball, Harry overhears the conversation between Snape and
- 25:45Speaker 1: Carcroff about cark Off being afraid and something growing clearer
- 25:50Speaker 1: every day, which we find out later is the dark
- 25:53Speaker 1: mark on his arm. The connection to the end of
- 25:57Speaker 1: the book kind of obvious. Valdemore's return, right, so he's
- 26:02Speaker 1: growing stronger he does come back. Cargoff was afraid with
- 26:08Speaker 1: pretty good reason. Yeah, a lot that one to chapter.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think even like that, Yeah, something growing
- 26:25Speaker 4: clearer every day. It's even just like that, you know,
- 26:28Speaker 4: I think as that book progressed, like those the death
- 26:33Speaker 4: Theaters and the former death Theaters, obviously we're getting the
- 26:38Speaker 4: sense it was becoming clearer every day to them that
- 26:42Speaker 4: Baltimore was coming back.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and even recurring nightmares. Yeah, he also had these
- 26:51Speaker 2: recurring nightmares and he was dreaming about the same thing,
- 26:56Speaker 2: especially on that night also, and yeah, it's kind of like,
- 27:01Speaker 2: like you said, this foreshadowing that he's you know, he's
- 27:05Speaker 2: about to return and things are about to get really dark.
- 27:08Speaker 2: And again going back to how Christmas starts getting darker
- 27:12Speaker 2: and darker as well as each book comes, it starts
- 27:17Speaker 2: getting like a foreshadowing of something darker happening in the future.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I think from book four onwards, so I think that's
- 27:23Speaker 2: also a very interesting point.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah, the first several are very warm and fuzzy, and
- 27:33Speaker 1: then not so much after that.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Like literally for Hermione, she turns into a cat like
- 27:40Speaker 4: she became warm and fuzzy.
- 27:47Speaker 1: So then we get to nineteen ninety five The Order
- 27:51Speaker 1: of the Phoenix. Speaking of getting darker, this is the
- 27:57Speaker 1: first time that Harry spends the holiday away from Hogwarts,
- 28:03Speaker 1: so this obviously Arthur Weasley was attacked by the snake.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Right before Christmas. Harry and the Weasleys stay with Sirius
- 28:13Speaker 1: at Grimmeld Place, and Hermione cancels her skiing trip to
- 28:17Speaker 1: join them, and the holidays acts as like a good
- 28:22Speaker 1: cover to get the Weasleys and Harry out of Hogwarts
- 28:27Speaker 1: under Umbrage's nose to get back to the family during
- 28:31Speaker 1: the emergency. On Christmas Day, they visit mister Weasley at
- 28:38Speaker 1: Saint Mungo's and we get Christmas on the closed ward
- 28:42Speaker 1: such a great chapter. While there, they learn about Neville's parents,
- 28:48Speaker 1: and they also witness a plant being delivered to the
- 28:52Speaker 1: unspeakable Broderick Bode, which the plant turns out to be
- 28:58Speaker 1: devil snare and Bode and kills him, and we find
- 29:03Speaker 1: out it was sent by McNair to keep Bode quiet
- 29:06Speaker 1: about Malfoy attempting to impurias him and get him to
- 29:10Speaker 1: steal the prophecy. But obviously we don't know all that
- 29:15Speaker 1: in that chapter. We just see a nice potted plant
- 29:18Speaker 1: being delivered to someone who's recovering in the hospital. So
- 29:25Speaker 1: our connection to the end of the book in this
- 29:27Speaker 1: one is the prophecy. This is our first hint that
- 29:32Speaker 1: that's kind of what the death Eaters and Valdemort are after,
- 29:36Speaker 1: even though we don't know that here, but we get
- 29:40Speaker 1: the name drop of mister Bode, and that's kind of
- 29:44Speaker 1: the first hint. Also, Neville's parents kind of connect to
- 29:50Speaker 1: what we learn about how he could have just as
- 29:52Speaker 1: easily been the one that Valdemort went after instead of Harry.
- 29:57Speaker 1: But even though Valdemoret didn't go after the long Bottoms
- 30:02Speaker 1: and chose the Potters instead, Neville still did lose his
- 30:07Speaker 1: parents in a way. So all of that kind of
- 30:11Speaker 1: connects to a lot of the revelations that happen in
- 30:15Speaker 1: the closing chapters of Order of the Phoenix.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and I know we talked about in our Halloween episode,
- 30:24Speaker 4: we kind of referenced this event because it's like one
- 30:27Speaker 4: of the ones that you know we talked about could
- 30:30Speaker 4: have seemed like it could have been a Halloween.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Type of event.
- 30:33Speaker 4: But this like really kind of paints the picture of
- 30:37Speaker 4: why it made so much more sense to have this
- 30:39Speaker 4: event be over the Christmas holiday instead of Halloween, when
- 30:43Speaker 4: everybody was still at school, like they needed to be
- 30:45Speaker 4: away from school to kind of learn all these other things.
- 30:48Speaker 4: And like you said, we learned so much with you know,
- 30:51Speaker 4: in that Christmas on the Closed Word chapter, and that
- 30:54Speaker 4: we just wouldn't get if this had taken place, I
- 30:56Speaker 4: think at any other time during the year.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. So then in nineteen ninety six, in
- 31:08Speaker 1: The Half Blood, Prince Harry, Ron and Ginny spend Christmas
- 31:12Speaker 1: at the Borough with the Weasleys and Fleur Delacour. On
- 31:17Speaker 1: Christmas Day, Percy shows up with the Minister of Magic,
- 31:22Speaker 1: Rufus Scrimjoor and Scrimjw's visit was to try and get
- 31:26Speaker 1: Harry to show public support for the Ministry of Magic
- 31:29Speaker 1: after they basically smeared his name everywhere the year before
- 31:33Speaker 1: and called him a liar for saying that Voldemort was back.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Funny thing, this isn't like the first Percy incident that
- 31:44Speaker 1: seems to happen on Christmas, So.
- 31:48Speaker 3: He just likes to ruin the holiday.
- 31:50Speaker 1: He says. The first book, we have Percy refusing to
- 31:53Speaker 1: wear a sweater. The second book don't. Is this just
- 32:01Speaker 1: a movieism? But they run into Percy on their way
- 32:05Speaker 1: to the Slytherin common room right after drinking the poly juice,
- 32:10Speaker 1: and he also almost busts them making the polyjuice potion
- 32:14Speaker 1: when he sees Ron coming out of the bathroom. The
- 32:18Speaker 1: third book, what happens in the third one? Why am
- 32:22Speaker 1: I blinking? I don't think he happens in the third one.
- 32:26Speaker 1: But the fourth one he's at the Ole Ball, and
- 32:31Speaker 1: there's a whole little exchange of Harry kind of wondering
- 32:36Speaker 1: if his boss has actually learned his real name yet,
- 32:43Speaker 1: just filling in for Crouch at the Old Ball. And
- 32:48Speaker 1: then the fifth one, Missus Weasley is all upset because
- 32:53Speaker 1: Percy's not there for Christmas. And then the sixth one
- 32:57Speaker 1: he shows up and she's happy, and then she's mad
- 33:02Speaker 1: because he trouble. Yeah, so this is one that, like
- 33:13Speaker 1: I was struggling to figure out how this fits the
- 33:15Speaker 1: theme of the rest of them.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Hmmm, yeah, this one, I mean, this one definitely doesn't
- 33:33Speaker 4: have as clear of a direct connection as the other
- 33:35Speaker 4: ones do. I mean, right, because that the really the
- 33:44Speaker 4: penultimate of the end of that book is just everything
- 33:48Speaker 4: with Dumbledore's death, learning that snapes the Halfwood Prince, learning
- 33:54Speaker 4: about even before that, the discovery you know, of the
- 33:57Speaker 4: lock in ra a B. Like, that's kind of really
- 34:00Speaker 4: this ending, and obviously it doesn't really necessarily tie directly
- 34:06Speaker 4: to that this whole.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Chapter really in the sixth book where they're at the Borrow,
- 34:16Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe I need to do another reread,
- 34:18Speaker 1: but I feel like it doesn't have like not even
- 34:22Speaker 1: just on Christmas. I feel like around that, just the
- 34:27Speaker 1: stay at the Borough, there's not a ton of like
- 34:28Speaker 1: Easter eggs to the end really because this isn't where
- 34:34Speaker 1: they find the lockeed like you said, Yeah, I don't
- 34:39Speaker 1: really know. It doesn't seem to follow the same pattern.
- 34:42Speaker 4: There's not like that foreshadowing hint kind of thing to
- 34:45Speaker 4: something at the end. Yeah, and I'm trying to think,
- 34:48Speaker 4: I mean, I definitely need to do a reread of
- 34:51Speaker 4: half Times. Yeah, And I can't remember if there's maybe
- 34:54Speaker 4: even like a little thing that maybe happen. Obviously I
- 34:57Speaker 4: mentioned all the like big things that kind of happen
- 34:59Speaker 4: at the end of that book. But if there's even
- 35:01Speaker 4: a little kind of something, but.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I don't only thing I can think, but it doesn't
- 35:07Speaker 1: really tease to the end of this book and more
- 35:10Speaker 1: teases to the next book of like the Fall of
- 35:13Speaker 1: the Ministry.
- 35:15Speaker 4: I was going to say, it seems like it would
- 35:17Speaker 4: be tied to something with the Ministry.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Which we find out about the Fall of the Ministry
- 35:22Speaker 1: also at the Borough.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I yeah, I think that that could
- 35:32Speaker 4: be something you connected to because I think that like
- 35:35Speaker 4: just their whole like non support of Harry and Dumbledore
- 35:43Speaker 4: with the whole situation and their blind eye to the
- 35:46Speaker 4: fact that Valdemore could even return, and like you said, yeah,
- 35:51Speaker 4: they spent the whole year trying to just smear Harry's name,
- 35:55Speaker 4: and you know, even though yeah, and it's like the
- 36:02Speaker 4: start of the fall, Like if it's just I think
- 36:08Speaker 4: their whole just trying to deny that that whole situation
- 36:10Speaker 4: could happen and just playing a blind eye to it
- 36:13Speaker 4: instead of accepting that that could be something that could happen.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Was just the cracks in the ministry. They were never
- 36:20Speaker 4: going to like kind of survive that.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Yeah, So I'm thinking, now this is interesting because this
- 36:32Speaker 1: event doesn't happen on actual Christmas in this book, but
- 36:36Speaker 1: it's around the time the Slug Club Christmas Party. That
- 36:43Speaker 1: seems more in line with these other events to me
- 36:47Speaker 1: than the actual Christmas of Half Blood Prints does because
- 36:51Speaker 1: at the Slug Club Christmas Party there's the overheard conversation
- 36:58Speaker 1: between Snape.
- 36:59Speaker 3: And you Go, and that directly ties to the end.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but it also ties to the deceivingness of Halloween
- 37:10Speaker 2: as well, because you think that Snape is helping Draco,
- 37:15Speaker 2: which he is, by but it's by Dumbledore's orders. So
- 37:20Speaker 2: Harry's just making this whole movie in his head because
- 37:22Speaker 2: of what he overheard and what he thinks is having
- 37:26Speaker 2: when down, you know, down the line, we find out
- 37:29Speaker 2: it's something that is There's so many layers to that,
- 37:32Speaker 2: and I think it's more connected to Halloween than Christmas
- 37:37Speaker 2: in that sense. But it, Yeah, it does obviously tease
- 37:41Speaker 2: that at the end Snape will kill Dumbledore because you know,
- 37:45Speaker 2: Draco's not going to, you know, have the courage to
- 37:47Speaker 2: do it. He's you know, going through a lot of
- 37:50Speaker 2: things that year, and he's vulnerable, and it kind of
- 37:55Speaker 2: you know makes you it's kind of like a foreshadowing
- 37:59Speaker 2: of all that that's about to unfold and how dark
- 38:02Speaker 2: it is too. So yeah, I think I think there's
- 38:07Speaker 2: there's a good point there that you know, could be related,
- 38:11Speaker 2: even though it's not in you know, Christmas, but it's
- 38:14Speaker 2: around Christmas.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's Christmas adjacent.
- 38:20Speaker 4: I think like, you know, those those are still the
- 38:25Speaker 4: time of the year. Like I think we could probably
- 38:27Speaker 4: blanket that. It's like things that happen around this time
- 38:30Speaker 4: of the year. Yeah, having in importance.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Yeah, which I also think they did well in the film,
- 38:38Speaker 2: even though it's a scene that I was very conflicted
- 38:41Speaker 2: with because they literally just you know, slotted it in
- 38:45Speaker 2: and came up with it. The whole Borrow scene where
- 38:48Speaker 2: there you know, where Bellatrix and Gray Back attacked them
- 38:53Speaker 2: is also you know obviously foreshadowing that nowhere is safe
- 38:57Speaker 2: anymore and you know, used to be a safe haven
- 39:01Speaker 2: for all of them is no longer that and it
- 39:06Speaker 2: kind of makes you know, it sort of teases what's
- 39:11Speaker 2: going to happen the next year that they're going to
- 39:13Speaker 2: be on the run and you know they're going to
- 39:15Speaker 2: have to be hiding and just yeah, it's just about
- 39:20Speaker 2: to get very dark. So I think it's something that
- 39:24Speaker 2: they managed to capture it, and they're kind of like
- 39:27Speaker 2: the dark Christmas theme throughout the series. So I think
- 39:30Speaker 2: that's why it was included as well in the film,
- 39:33Speaker 2: not also to give it a little bit more action,
- 39:35Speaker 2: because there wasn't that much going on. So yeah, like
- 39:39Speaker 2: at least in the film, realm it you know, kind
- 39:42Speaker 2: of like connects a little bit more, not necessarily with
- 39:45Speaker 2: the end of the book, even though they are in
- 39:48Speaker 2: the Astronomy Tower when Malfoy kills well Snape, sorry kills Dumbledore.
- 39:55Speaker 2: So yeah, I don't know, something like that.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
- 40:03Speaker 4: I think visually that scene makes sense for the film,
- 40:05Speaker 4: and it conveys something that the book is kind of
- 40:08Speaker 4: able to convey through words that maybe when it translates
- 40:12Speaker 4: so much to film. But giving this very like right,
- 40:16Speaker 4: I kind of am conflicted on that scene as well,
- 40:18Speaker 4: but I mean undeniably, like from a cinematography standpoint, a
- 40:23Speaker 4: visual standpoint, it's such a good scene, like the whole thing,
- 40:29Speaker 4: and so in that regard, I've come to really love
- 40:32Speaker 4: that scene just because of how it looks and just
- 40:35Speaker 4: the feeling that you get in that. And obviously it's
- 40:38Speaker 4: like one of the only scenes I feel like where
- 40:40Speaker 4: we get like Book Ginny in the film, or like
- 40:45Speaker 4: a resemblance of Book Jinny, and so I think it
- 40:50Speaker 4: plays It does play a big part, like you mentioned,
- 40:53Speaker 4: in conveying something that needed to be visually conveyed. They
- 40:59Speaker 4: could siter on the table and say, oh, nowhere safe,
- 41:02Speaker 4: but like this really showed that, like, oh, yeah, here's
- 41:06Speaker 4: this place that's always been kind of like home, and
- 41:08Speaker 4: especially at the holidays, it's just it's such a warm
- 41:11Speaker 4: environment place and it's like here it's just ruined so
- 41:14Speaker 4: quickly by such like dark forces. And yeah, it does
- 41:19Speaker 4: foreshadow kind of what's to come for them, Yeah.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, which leads us into arguably probably the darkest
- 41:31Speaker 1: and most depressing Christmas in the books in nineteen ninety
- 41:36Speaker 1: seven and the Deathly Hallows. So on Christmas Eve, Harry
- 41:41Speaker 1: and Hermione visit Godric's Hollow and they're attacked by Niccghini
- 41:46Speaker 1: pretending to be befilled a bagshot. So this whole scene
- 41:54Speaker 1: really is interesting because it has that whole parallel of
- 42:01Speaker 1: the Wizarding World is at war while the Muggles in
- 42:05Speaker 1: the church on Christmas Eve are singing hymns and it
- 42:08Speaker 1: is very peaceful. So it's a very like juxtaposition kind
- 42:13Speaker 1: of dynamic going on there. As we mentioned earlier, they're
- 42:19Speaker 1: in the graveyard, you know, they see the Peveril tombstone
- 42:25Speaker 1: for the first time, and that's kind of where the
- 42:29Speaker 1: name clicks and they start to piece things together later. Yeah,
- 42:36Speaker 1: then of course the whole snake situation is terrifying. That
- 42:43Speaker 1: scene in the movie is like I jump every time.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Even though you know what's coming. It's such a good
- 42:50Speaker 3: jump scare.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Yeah. And then just in addition to the stuff that
- 42:56Speaker 1: happens in Godric's Hollow, I'm not sure if this is
- 43:01Speaker 1: like the next day on actual Christmas or not, but
- 43:07Speaker 1: very shortly after Godreich's Hollow, Harry follows the dough into
- 43:11Speaker 1: the woods and finds the sword of Gryffindor and Ron
- 43:16Speaker 1: having left Shell Cottage where he spent Christmas because he
- 43:19Speaker 1: was pouting, he follows the illuminator back to where Harry
- 43:26Speaker 1: and Hermione are and rescues Harry and they destroy the locket.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I don't think this is Christmas Day. I think it's
- 43:36Speaker 1: in the days following because Ron explains that he left
- 43:42Speaker 1: shell Cottage and was wandering for a while. So yeah,
- 43:49Speaker 1: but it's still is kind of in that time frame
- 43:52Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 43:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and I think like obviously this you know,
- 43:58Speaker 4: if we're kind of thinking of it being like a
- 44:00Speaker 4: Christmas adjacent kind of thing, this whole thing I think
- 44:04Speaker 4: does have a strong connection to the end of the
- 44:06Speaker 4: book because you just have, you know, especially with the
- 44:11Speaker 4: sort of Gryffindor obviously that plays such a big role
- 44:14Speaker 4: at the end. Just the destroying of the horre cruxes
- 44:18Speaker 4: is still a big It has that big tie to
- 44:20Speaker 4: the end, especially with Nighiney kind of being that last
- 44:25Speaker 4: hor crux that is that is destroyed.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Right and they just got away from Niccghiney.
- 44:33Speaker 3: M hm.
- 44:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like being so close to what, you know,
- 44:37Speaker 4: what your kind of end thing is. And then yeah,
- 44:41Speaker 4: and the fact that at the end of the day
- 44:42Speaker 4: it's the sort of Gryffindor that ends Nacghini.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I don't know what else to say about
- 45:02Speaker 1: this Christmas It's yeah, it's pretty dark, yeah, and kind
- 45:11Speaker 1: of sad. It's like we start out this series with happy, warm,
- 45:16Speaker 1: and fluffy Christmas and friends and family and belonging, and
- 45:21Speaker 1: then we end the series on Christmas where people are
- 45:25Speaker 1: alone and like on the run and hiding. Yeah, it's
- 45:35Speaker 1: but I mean.
- 45:36Speaker 4: Really kind of like in a way, those Christmases and
- 45:39Speaker 4: like the how those Christmases evolve over the years like
- 45:42Speaker 4: directly parallels.
- 45:44Speaker 3: The books, right, I mean, the.
- 45:46Speaker 4: First couple books are still really magical and fluffy and
- 45:50Speaker 4: you know, whimsical, and as we progress through the books,
- 45:53Speaker 4: and like you mentioned earlier, Tom, like lots of times,
- 45:57Speaker 4: you know, I think Prisoner of Azkaban is kind of
- 45:59Speaker 4: where things start to turn, but like arguably Goblet of
- 46:02Speaker 4: Fire is really where it turns into a dark book.
- 46:06Speaker 4: And that's where we really start to see Christmas starting
- 46:09Speaker 4: to take that turn. And they just all seem to
- 46:12Speaker 4: have the right kind of mood to that book, Like
- 46:16Speaker 4: it wouldn't make sense to have like this happy, fun
- 46:19Speaker 4: Christmas in Deathly Hallows with everything that's going on.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and so much about this series is about growing
- 46:29Speaker 1: up and whether or not that's surrounded by the trauma
- 46:33Speaker 1: that this trio goes through or not. I think naturally
- 46:37Speaker 1: it's a natural progression for everybody. The Christmas and the
- 46:42Speaker 1: feeling around it is something totally different when you're younger,
- 46:46Speaker 1: as opposed to then when you get into your adult years.
- 46:51Speaker 2: You think about the people who have gone, who are
- 46:53Speaker 2: no longer here exactly, like Harry visiting his parents graveyard
- 46:57Speaker 2: and also the house that you know they were killed.
- 47:01Speaker 2: So it's a very emotional Christmas for Harry, and even
- 47:05Speaker 2: though he's with Hermione, it also kind of feels like
- 47:08Speaker 2: he feels more alone than ever at the same time
- 47:11Speaker 2: because his parents aren't not there, his other best friend
- 47:14Speaker 2: is not there, he's not at Hogwarts anymore. He's not
- 47:16Speaker 2: even you know, with the closest thing he has to
- 47:19Speaker 2: a family that are the Weasleys, so you know, he's
- 47:22Speaker 2: got no one. And and the fact that you've got
- 47:24Speaker 2: Muggles celebrating Christmas completely oblivious to the fact that there's
- 47:30Speaker 2: a dark wizard who wants to.
- 47:32Speaker 1: And the brink of war like in the world, and
- 47:35Speaker 1: they're literally on the outside of that celebration in that
- 47:40Speaker 1: like warmth of that church there.
- 47:43Speaker 2: You can almost feel it, you can almost reach it,
- 47:45Speaker 2: but not quite yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:49Speaker 3: And it kind of like it kind of like almost foreshadows,
- 47:54Speaker 3: like the fact that like.
- 47:55Speaker 4: They're almost there right, like they're we're in the last book.
- 48:00Speaker 4: They know at this point what they need to do
- 48:03Speaker 4: to like ultimately defeat Baltimore. And the wheels are in motion, right,
- 48:07Speaker 4: They've already destroyed some of the horre cruxes.
- 48:10Speaker 3: They're still There's it's just the wheels are in motion.
- 48:13Speaker 4: They're almost there, and it's like just getting this like
- 48:16Speaker 4: little glimpse of light like through the cracks. And it
- 48:20Speaker 4: might seem very like in that moment hopeless and all
- 48:26Speaker 4: of that, but it is this like foreshadowing of like.
- 48:30Speaker 3: There is light to come.
- 48:33Speaker 4: Yeah, until Kirschild happens, then it's all madness again.
- 48:38Speaker 1: But I mean, I think there's just this thing too,
- 48:42Speaker 1: just like throughout history, Christmas is like one of those
- 48:49Speaker 1: holidays I feel like where no matter what's happening, it
- 48:54Speaker 1: does get celebrated, right, Like Christmas and Hanaka are like
- 48:58Speaker 1: those things that it's like that light in the darkness
- 49:01Speaker 1: that you kind of always see being celebrated no matter
- 49:05Speaker 1: what bad is happening. Like there's always those stories of
- 49:09Speaker 1: like World War two and like the ceasefires that happen
- 49:14Speaker 1: on Christmas even too Christmas and like soldiers in the
- 49:19Speaker 1: trenches in World War One, like stopping and singing Silent
- 49:23Speaker 1: Night or whatever. Like it's one of those things where
- 49:25Speaker 1: it's like, I feel like a lot of the moments
- 49:28Speaker 1: that we're seeing in these later books are kind of
- 49:32Speaker 1: like that, and that it's like the world is terrible,
- 49:38Speaker 1: there's so much happening, but wait, like life still goes
- 49:45Speaker 1: on and there's still these moments that unite humanity and
- 49:50Speaker 1: are like something that is still celebrated even though there's
- 49:55Speaker 1: so much terrible going on in the world, which I think.
- 49:58Speaker 3: Are still the moments of joy.
- 50:00Speaker 4: Yeah, when we see that, I mean especially in like
- 50:03Speaker 4: Order the Phoenix, where you know, Arthur is attacked, but
- 50:07Speaker 4: yet the family still comes together to have this like
- 50:10Speaker 4: moment of joy in this moment of connection, even though
- 50:14Speaker 4: like he almost just like lost his life and has
- 50:17Speaker 4: all these injuries and everything, like they make time to
- 50:20Speaker 4: still experience that joy in that family.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we even get a glimpse of those moments of hope.
- 50:32Speaker 2: It doesn't happen in Christmas, but it does surround Christmas
- 50:34Speaker 2: when we get the scene with Harry and Hermione, who
- 50:36Speaker 2: are you know, hopeless at that point, and they start
- 50:39Speaker 2: dancing and they share this very little, you know, beautiful
- 50:43Speaker 2: sweet moment that could have been a great Christmas Eve
- 50:46Speaker 2: scene to be honest now that I think about it,
- 50:49Speaker 2: because it's kind of like finding light in darkness. So
- 50:54Speaker 2: it's and even though they're about to give up and
- 50:56Speaker 2: they have no idea where to look for the you know,
- 50:58Speaker 2: how to destroy the hoore crocks, where to find the
- 51:00Speaker 2: remaining ones, you know, there are at terrible risk, and
- 51:06Speaker 2: there's a wizard on the loose, there's you know, and
- 51:09Speaker 2: multiple wizards and dark wizards who are looking for them,
- 51:13Speaker 2: and so it's it's such a you know, dark moment
- 51:18Speaker 2: for them at that point. But the fact that they
- 51:20Speaker 2: still find these little like you know, like light through
- 51:24Speaker 2: the cracks, like you said, Akal, Like they find these
- 51:26Speaker 2: little bits of it, and they still find there's something
- 51:29Speaker 2: worth celebrating, whether it's company, whether it's you know, a friend,
- 51:33Speaker 2: a family member, something you're grateful for too, because that's
- 51:38Speaker 2: what holidays are about too, you know, It's about bringing
- 51:42Speaker 2: family together, being thankful for what we have and just
- 51:46Speaker 2: you know, trying to, yeah, trying to give our best
- 51:50Speaker 2: to the world as well. So I think it's it's
- 51:54Speaker 2: also nice how it's not all dark and it's there's
- 51:57Speaker 2: also these hints of lightness and you know, fuzzy moments
- 52:03Speaker 2: that we kind of missed in these last books or
- 52:06Speaker 2: movies that you know, make you say, hey, you know,
- 52:09Speaker 2: there's still hope, there's still something that we can look
- 52:12Speaker 2: forward to. There's a light at the end of the tunnel,
- 52:15Speaker 2: you know.
- 52:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's almost like that little bit of a reminder
- 52:19Speaker 4: of like what they're fighting for. Yeah, you know, and
- 52:23Speaker 4: it kind of reminds me of like, you know, in
- 52:25Speaker 4: Order of the Phoenix, like when Harry gets possessed by Baltimore, Like,
- 52:30Speaker 4: you know, he's able to resist it because he has
- 52:33Speaker 4: like love in him and he has people that he's
- 52:35Speaker 4: fighting for. It's not just about him, you know, or
- 52:38Speaker 4: obviously for Baltimore, like he only cares about himself and
- 52:42Speaker 4: he doesn't have love or you know, anything like that,
- 52:46Speaker 4: and so it's like he's, yeah, Harry is able to
- 52:49Speaker 4: kind of persevere in that moment, and it's like, yeah, just.
- 52:53Speaker 3: Kind of like that.
- 52:53Speaker 4: I think the way that the scene is in the
- 52:55Speaker 4: movie too, you know, when they're at the grave and
- 52:59Speaker 4: you know, Harry just Hermione kind of looks over and
- 53:01Speaker 4: it's reminded that it's Christmas, and it's just even if
- 53:06Speaker 4: they don't realize it, it is kind of just this
- 53:08Speaker 4: reminder of like we're fighting for this, like we're fighting
- 53:12Speaker 4: for these joy in this happy moments because it's like
- 53:14Speaker 4: at the end of the day, the Muggles don't know it,
- 53:17Speaker 4: but Baltimore coming back also affects their life, right, you know,
- 53:21Speaker 4: and we see throughout the series that Muggles do lose
- 53:24Speaker 4: their life because of what's happening in the Wizarding World.
- 53:27Speaker 4: And yeah, it's just I think it's that reminder that
- 53:31Speaker 4: they need that like wouldn't affect Baltimore, right, Like if
- 53:34Speaker 4: Baltimore was sitting right there and saw these Carollers and
- 53:37Speaker 4: where they were all happy or whatever, he'd probably just
- 53:39Speaker 4: go like a vaticate or them.
- 53:41Speaker 1: But like for her, here you go, that's a good
- 53:48Speaker 1: episode title.
- 53:50Speaker 4: Yeah, but yeah, but it obviously won't it obviously has
- 53:55Speaker 4: it will.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Have meaning for you know, for Harry and Hermione.
- 53:59Speaker 4: And it's like and it's it's funny because it's it's
- 54:01Speaker 4: really kind of sad when you really think about it,
- 54:03Speaker 4: because I think of like think back to like Harry's
- 54:05Speaker 4: first Christmas, right, like, yeah, he never really got to
- 54:08Speaker 4: fully experience Christmas being with the Dursleys. Obviously he's not
- 54:12Speaker 4: it's not like he's never experienced Christmas before, but he
- 54:16Speaker 4: just kind of had to sit in the shadows while
- 54:18Speaker 4: you know, Dugley got all the gifts and he just
- 54:21Speaker 4: the joy that he has and that first Christmas to
- 54:24Speaker 4: even receive a gift and just everything about it. And
- 54:28Speaker 4: it's just like it's so sad how his Christmases like
- 54:32Speaker 4: progress over the years. But it's like you mentioned earlier, Amy,
- 54:38Speaker 4: like that, you know, as I think of like you know,
- 54:42Speaker 4: as just regular adults in life, like when you're a kid,
- 54:45Speaker 4: Christmas is so exciting and magical and everything, right, and
- 54:49Speaker 4: then as you get older, like Christmas has just become
- 54:52Speaker 4: sometimes full of family drama and nightmare logistics and stress
- 54:59Speaker 4: in a way that it's not when you're a kid.
- 55:02Speaker 4: And right, we see that as they're growing up, we
- 55:05Speaker 4: see it go from being this very whimsical fun time
- 55:10Speaker 4: to being this.
- 55:13Speaker 3: Just stress.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Moment having to think what you're going to give all
- 55:19Speaker 2: of your family members and not knowing, not having a
- 55:23Speaker 2: clue what to give them. It's it's stressful in that sense,
- 55:27Speaker 2: like when you're an adult and you know, Christmas it
- 55:30Speaker 2: was all about receiving, but now it's about giving as
- 55:33Speaker 2: an adult as well, so it has a different meaning
- 55:36Speaker 2: as well. Yeah, and yeah, absolutely what you said. Like
- 55:41Speaker 2: and for Hermione too, it's a very dark Christmas as well.
- 55:45Speaker 2: She lost her parents, she you know, abbeviated them. They
- 55:49Speaker 2: are somewhere in you know, Australia, I think. So it's
- 55:54Speaker 2: for her it's like she she lost everything and she
- 55:58Speaker 2: lost Ron too, and Harry is going through this horrible
- 56:03Speaker 2: you know, he's got to witness I mean, he wanted
- 56:06Speaker 2: to go there willingly, but he's got to also kind
- 56:10Speaker 2: of like a full circle moment for him to go
- 56:12Speaker 2: back where it all started. But yeah, I feel like
- 56:18Speaker 2: you have to be very i don't know, very mentally
- 56:23Speaker 2: prepared and emotionally emotionally stable or at least ready for
- 56:29Speaker 2: all of that, and especially at that time where all
- 56:32Speaker 2: you need is comfort and family and warmth, and that's
- 56:38Speaker 2: they're getting the complete opposite and they just have each
- 56:40Speaker 2: other at that point.
- 56:42Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, kind of sad.
- 56:51Speaker 3: The joy of Christmas.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Let's just rewind and.
- 56:57Speaker 3: Both back to.
- 56:58Speaker 5: You know when Harry was so excited to receive that sweater,
- 57:03Speaker 5: Easley sweater and the most joy you know, he could
- 57:06Speaker 5: have really taught Percy to be a little bit more
- 57:09Speaker 5: grateful for that sweater.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Nothing will ever beat that first Christmas at Howards for him.
- 57:16Speaker 3: So good, Happy Christmas, Harry, Happy Christmas.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Roun.
- 57:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so great.
- 57:21Speaker 1: It's so and it's just.
- 57:22Speaker 4: Yeah, really kind of thinking about it after just you know,
- 57:26Speaker 4: it's it's one of those things where it's like once
- 57:28Speaker 4: you know the ending and you kind of go back
- 57:30Speaker 4: and reread that or rewatch that, and it's.
- 57:33Speaker 3: Just kind of like the innocence.
- 57:36Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean even before everything that transpired, even
- 57:41Speaker 4: that year, right, Like I feel like Harry had to
- 57:43Speaker 4: like grow up kind of quickly there at the end
- 57:46Speaker 4: with you know, just everything he had to deal with.
- 57:49Speaker 4: At the end of that book, it was like just
- 57:53Speaker 4: that moment of yeah, just innocence really.
- 57:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Wow that Yeah, that is Christmas in the Wistaring World.
- 58:14Speaker 4: If you want to have a joyful Christmas, maybe don't
- 58:16Speaker 4: go to the Wizarding World, at least the real one.
- 58:20Speaker 4: If you do want to have a joyful Christmas, I
- 58:22Speaker 4: do recommend going to the Widow World in Orlando because
- 58:26Speaker 4: it's decorated so beautiful and it's so full of joy,
- 58:29Speaker 4: and you can listen to Celestina sing her Christmas songs
- 58:32Speaker 4: and it is joy there.
- 58:34Speaker 3: They capture the joy there.
- 58:37Speaker 1: It's about to leave grab on to the pork Key.
- 58:44Speaker 4: So for our rotating segment this week, wanted to kind
- 58:49Speaker 4: of keep it in theme with the winter time Christmas
- 58:52Speaker 4: Eve vibes of the Wizarding World, and wanted to do
- 58:56Speaker 4: the port Key where we kind of highlight different experiences
- 58:59Speaker 4: and places that you can go to experience things from
- 59:03Speaker 4: the Wizzening World. And so I wanted to highlight the
- 59:07Speaker 4: Hogwarts in Snow feature at the Studio Tour in London.
- 59:11Speaker 4: So if you happen to find yourself in or near
- 59:14Speaker 4: London this holiday season, it's happening now through the nineteenth
- 59:18Speaker 4: of January, you can head to the Studio Tour to
- 59:21Speaker 4: experience their annual Hogwarts in the Snow event. So I
- 59:25Speaker 4: had a chance to go to this years ago when
- 59:27Speaker 4: I lived in the UK, and it's just really so
- 59:30Speaker 4: awesome to see all the sets decorated for Christmas. And
- 59:34Speaker 4: the real showstopper of this is at the end where
- 59:38Speaker 4: like when you at the Studio Tour, the very kind
- 59:40Speaker 4: of end is the massive giant model of Hogwarts, and
- 59:43Speaker 4: they go and they cover the whole thing in snow
- 59:46Speaker 4: and they do the same process as like what they
- 59:49Speaker 4: used in the films, so like you know, when you're
- 59:51Speaker 4: seeing Hogwarts in winter and they're filming the model, and.
- 59:56Speaker 3: It's just really cool.
- 59:58Speaker 4: And when they do this Hogwarts and Snow event, like
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: the Christmas vibes are kind of throughout the entire studio tour.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: So if you've never been to the Studio Tour before,
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: the first set that you kind of enter is the
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: Great Hall. So when you enter the Great Hall, they
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: have gold decorations from Sorcerer's Stone, the tables they cover
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: them in all the food and the desserts from the
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: holiday feast, and they have all those Christmas trees that
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: we talked about earlier, and all the Christmas trees are
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: decorated and I remember them having like these like flying
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: witch decorations like that just flew around the tree, which
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: was really cool. And then all the fireplaces that are
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: there in the set, they you know, put them put
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: holly and mistletoe and reates and it's just very Christmas like,
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: right when you walk into that that great Hall set.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: As you move through the studio tour the common room
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: sets that are there, they also decorate them for Christmas.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: So I kind of vividly remember the Gryffindor common room
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: set that they have there. They decorate that for Christmas.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: And there's also like Christmas cards that they made, like
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: on the set that they have displayed there as well.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: And then when I was like kind of seeing what
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: they had on offer for this year, they also mentioned
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: that you can have a chance to learn Nevill's.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Dance steps for the ule Ball, and.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Then there's also a chance to see how the illusion
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: of invisibility was created on screen for the Invisibility Cloak,
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: which obviously, as we talked about, Harry receives.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: As a Christmas present.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: So new since I've gone, because obviously I haven't seen
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: the Forbidden Forest set, but they also cover that in snow,
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: so when you're walking through that, it's all snow covered.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: And then also when you go through the diagon Alley set,
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: they have all the shopfronts and the cobblestone kind of
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: around those shop fronts also covered in snow, so they
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: really take the Christmas Eve holiday vibe throughout the entire
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: studio tour, and then they also have a like a
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: demonstration where you can learn how and I feel like
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: they did have this when I went years ago, because
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: I feel like I remember this. The snow that they
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: use doesn't melt, obviously, because when you're filming, you know,
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: filming can take hours, it can take days. You can't
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: just have all the snow that's melting. So the set
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: decorators are there on the studio tour to show you
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: kind of how they made this snow that doesn't melt
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: as well. So it's a really cool experience. I definitely recommend.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: I think it's one of I mean, all the features
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: that they do at the studio tour are awesome, but
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: I think this is one of the bigger ones they
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: do that kind of really.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: Takes over all the sets. So definitely recommend it. Yeah.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's also one thing to see it through
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: a video or through an Instagram post when you see
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: the castle the model, but when you go and see
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: it in person, it just makes you, you know, such
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: ational moment for any fan because it's the closest you'll
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: ever feel to Hogwarts actually, So I can't imagine how
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: beautiful it must be to you it all covered in snow,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: It must be so beautiful. And yeah, I would love.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: To impressed with it.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: It's very impressive, I mean, and like, I mean, I
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: went over like a decade ago and I can still
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: like I still have a very vivid memory of it
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: because the model is so it's a large model, and
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: just the.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: Amount of.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: Snow that has to go there. And I remember them
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: there was like little like snowmen that they kind of
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: built on the grounds as well, And it's like, I
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: can't imagine the process annually of covering that model with
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: snow and then uncovering it with snow and getting every
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: little piece of that snow off. It's such a it's
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: such a feat really, and they do it every year,
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: and they've been doing it every year for years, and
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: and I want.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: To know what the cleanup process is, Like is it
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: a giant vacuum cleaner? That's how my picture as.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: I think, Yeah, it's like, is there a vacuum cleaner
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: that kind of goes in first to get the bulk
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: of it, and then they've got to go in and yeah,
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: like hand detail handbrush while not falling on the model
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: to make sure it's because after it's it's I mean
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: it's spotless. You would never know that it was that
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: that model was covered in whatever they used for the snow.
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: You just would have no idea. I mean, even in
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: like the Diagon Alley set and stuff like that, all
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: the snow they put down there, And like I said,
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: I mean I haven't seen the Forbidden Forest set, but
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: I can imagine like having to cover all the woods
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: that they have there in the snow and having to
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: like pick all that snow up and get it all.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: It just must be such a massive undertaking. Yeah, but
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: I'm glad they do it because it's such a good
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: experience and I hope to be a to go back
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: one day now with all these extra sets that are there,
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: just to see what they've done with that.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: But I just remember it being really cool, and I think,
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: especially like the.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: Gryffindor Common Room set, it's just so nostalgic, like it
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: just makes it like we were just talking about, right, like
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: that warm and fuzzy feeling that you get in that
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: first film, and it's like you just are like reminded
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: of it because you're there, You're standing right there, and
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: you can see and hear the whole scene in your head,
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: and it's just so warm and inviting and you just
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: want to climb over the barrier and cuddle up on
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: that couch in front of the fireplace.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Yes, but risk getting kicked out and we're being able
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: to return.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: If you do it, ban for life in that moment
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: it poster. Yeah, it's going to be worth it.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: So I'm wondering if they're going to I don't I
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: don't think they've done this before. I think they have.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: They dressed the whole Great Hall the way they did
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: the Yueld Ball from the films. I wonder if they
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: will bring this back for the twentieth anniversary next year
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: of Goblet of Fire for Christmas. That would be very
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: interesting too. Yeah, but I think they've done that before,
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: haven't they.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: And I mean I remember I remember going. I know
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: that there. I think we talked about it in like
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: an earlier episode. They're going to be bringing back some
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: Goblet of Fire stuff in honor of the film anniversary.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: I remember going, and.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: They had the Goblet of Fire out, and they don't
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: normally have it out on display the way that they did,
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: and they actually had they did a demonstration of the
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: name pieces like coming out of it, and whoever caught
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: them got to like take it home, and I remember
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: being really mad that I didn't get it. So I
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: think they always have like the guy if I remember right,
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: I feel like the Goblet of Fire is always on
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: display somewhere, but like that instance, they take it out
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: and have it.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: It has its own kind of in the Great Hall.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: They set it up in the Great Hall.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: But I feel like maybe the yeah, they did do
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: something with the yule Ball. I feel like I remember
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: something with like Hermione's dress being on display in a
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: different place. Like I think it's always on display, but
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: they'll what they'll do is they'll bring those certain things
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: out and display them like in the Great Hall. And
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: I know I remember they have the big like found
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: anything that was at the Yule Ball, like the crystally glass.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: I don't know what was in it or something like that.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: They have that They do have a couple of the
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: tables with the with the bottles and the the dishes
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: and everything, and Hermione's Yule Ball is next to next
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: to all of that, and I think the other outfits
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: as well. But I wonder if they're going to kind
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: of like take it up a notch feature, yeah, through
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: the whole set and just dress it and exactly how
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: we see it in Goblet of Fire. That would be
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: very interesting to bring a lot of visitors in as well,
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: because yeah.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think compared to like I guess
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: what they have now is obviously the trees and everything
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: would have to be different than what they normally put out.
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: But other than that, hmm, yeah, I think if they're listening,
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: they should do that.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: I mean, clearly someone's listening if they used Rebellio and
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: the show obviously, I mean it's not like Rebellion is
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: the most well known and they're selling unique wands at
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: the new Wand shop in Wizard Paris and Epic Universe.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: Which I mean we talked about that.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: We're the only people who had here first.
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: Obviously, Yeah, someone's listening, someone's else listening. But yes, I
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: think how Ward's in the Snow is like one of
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: a really great thing to do during the holiday season.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: Christmas season really get you in the spirit. And wish
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: I still lived in that neck of the woods so
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: that I could go again. But one day, one day,
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: I'll be back. But if you are near London, please go.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: Please send us pictures so we can live vicariously through you.
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: You have until the nineteenth of January of this year,
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: but it'll be back next year because they do it annually.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I had for the poor key.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: So nice.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: So last episode we asked our listeners, what animal symbolism
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: have you noticed in the Harry Potter series. So we
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: got a message from Jerry and she says, what about
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: scabbers and rats in general? Heinikol rats mice, and the
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: symbolism seems pretty obvious. Rats are not in general held
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: in high regard, So Peter turning into rats seems like
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: a pretty big clue that he wasn't a very nice person.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: There are other rats in the series. I especially remember
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: the black skipping rats in the Magical Menagerie when the
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: trio was shopping for rat tonic to help Scabbards who
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: was ill or frightened. And this and the fact that
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Krookshanks was purchased from the same shop on that same
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: trip started me thinking of the fates of the pets
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: of the major characters in the series. We all know
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: the fates of Scabbards and poor Hedwig. I remembered Neville's toad,
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Trevor left him to live with other toads near the
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Hogwarts Lake. I had to look up Kirkshanks. Apparently he
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: was last seen at the Burrow before the wedding. Some
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: assume that he stayed with the Weasleys and was reunited
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: with Hermione either after the final battle of Hogwarts or
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: even or when she married Ron. And I like to
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: think that Scabs half Needle traveled to Australia to live
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: with and watch over Hermione's parents. Like kirk Chanks, Pigwagin
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: seems to have stayed at the Borrow during the Camp
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Pink trip events of Deadly Hollows, and I like to
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: think that the separation from their pets by death or
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: other means was one way. Was one way the author
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: used to symbolize these characters growing up.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: That's so true. We always talk about the Hedwig situation,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: but we never talked about the other two in their
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: childhood pets.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: So yeah, I always want Gabbers he was in the
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: family for a while.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, And I always wonder what happened to Kirk
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Shanks as well. Where was he last seen or what
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: happened at the end? Did he renait with Hermione because
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: obviously he wasn't inside Hermione speeded bag. But yeah, it's it. Also,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: it's kind of like them leaving behind their childhood and
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: entering this hard adulthood all of a sudden. It's not
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: just leaving school behind, it's leaving family behind, it's leaving
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: their pets behind and just venturing into this very dangerous world.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Yeah. And also the Peter and Rat symbolism. He literally
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: rats out his friends. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: So for this week, we would like to know do
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: you think the Christmas events and the Harry Potter books
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: follow a pattern? If so, what is it? As always,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: we would love to hear from you. Drop us an

- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Yeah. So that is our last episode before Christmas, but
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: we'll see you guys, after Christmas, the day after Christmas,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: on my birthday.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: Well, we will be recording on my birthday, but it'll
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: come out on my birthday. But yeah, I hope everyone
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: has a happy Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate. Hopefully
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: it's way more joyous than it is for Harry Ron
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: and her mind.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Yes, which probably will be because.
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: You're probably not trying to defeat.
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: A dark wizard, so you already have that going for you.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm Amy, I'm Nicole, and I'm Tom Semished h
