- 1:06Speaker 3: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 1:10Speaker 5: Good afternoon. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. May
- 1:16Speaker 5: I introduce my lawyers, Sir James Clark and Mr. Clark
- 1:19Speaker 5: James from the firm James Clark & Weinstein. Booker always

- 1:26Speaker 5: and sign at the end, please.
- 1:28Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:29Speaker 7: Contracts?
- 1:31Speaker 3: Why two? Separate entities. Why can't we sign as a duo?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Ruling 247E.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Paragraph 17. It's in your own interest.
- 1:42Speaker 8: It's in your own interest.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Mr.
- 1:46Speaker 9: Boogaloo.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Mr.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Boogaloo always protects his clients.
- 1:50Speaker 6: Just trust him.
- 1:51Speaker 3: He's here to represent you.
- 1:53Speaker 1: He's on your side.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Mr.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Boogaloo, do you mind if we read them first?
- 1:59Speaker 1: Fine.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Fine with me. Take your time.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Just keep in mind that you have an appointment with
- 2:04Speaker 5: Ingrid Stockinger.
- 2:05Speaker 3: At 5 o'clock.
- 2:06Speaker 7: Who's she?
- 2:07Speaker 2: What do you mean, who's she? Ingrid Stockinger's the in-fashion designer.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yes, our wonderful boss is kind enough to buy you
- 2:16Speaker 3: some new clothes to fit your new image.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Mr.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Boogaloo, did you say five o'clock? That's in 20 minutes.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Yes, yes, and the press is waiting too, so let's
- 2:25Speaker 5: not waste time.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Where do I have to sign?
- 2:28Speaker 5: Right here.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Here?
- 2:36Speaker 5: Like a puppet on the string, like a monkey on
- 2:40Speaker 5: a swing, man is clinging to the ropes of the
- 2:43Speaker 5: fantasies and hopes we are dangling. He's so eager to
- 2:48Speaker 5: believe and so easily deceived. Like a baby watching magic,
- 2:54Speaker 5: he's so gullible, it's tragic in the words of naivety.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Life is nothing but show business in 1994.
- 3:02Speaker 3: We fight for the spotlight. We deal for the call.
- 3:08Speaker 10: Life is nothing but show business.
- 3:10Speaker 3: The world's a cabaret. We live for the fortune. We
- 3:15Speaker 3: die for the fame.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Welcome to Moving Up Down the Sofa Theater. Once again,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I am Brian.
- 3:22Speaker 3: God, this is Roger. I am Greg.
- 3:25Speaker 6: I'm Helena.
- 3:27Speaker 1: All right and this week's sofa theater feature is the
- 3:30Speaker 1: apple and before we even continue to follow suit with
- 3:33Speaker 1: the way we usually do things around here i you
- 3:36Speaker 1: know i thought i'd have to do it in tradition.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Oh, wow. Candy apples. Candy apples. I love cavities. Thank you, Brian.
- 3:48Speaker 3: How about that?
- 3:49Speaker 6: I can stop eating these wheat things and eat this apple.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yum.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Oh, your stick came out. Brian, would you like nuts
- 3:56Speaker 3: or no nuts? Whichever. I'm going to go with the
- 4:01Speaker 3: nuts if that's fine with you.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yay.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Yay.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Handy.
- 4:07Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Wait, is shit going to happen if I take a bite?
- 4:09Speaker 1: We'll find out. No, we're not watching candy, man. We're
- 4:14Speaker 1: watching the apple. So, yeah, in our usual fashion, I
- 4:17Speaker 1: thought we needed to kick it off with an appropriate
- 4:20Speaker 1: food item. And I thought, well, I could just go buy, like,
- 4:23Speaker 1: apples and have a big bowl of apples. I was like,
- 4:24Speaker 1: that sounds healthy. That does not seem like us at all,
- 4:28Speaker 1: especially food-oriented, which we have a little comment about that
- 4:32Speaker 1: later we'll get to. But, yeah, in the meantime, I figured...
- 4:36Speaker 1: Caramel-coated apples. That seems fitting for us, actually.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 1: So, once again, this week's Sofa Theater feature is The Apple.
- 4:44Speaker 1: The year is 1980. The director is Menachem Golan.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Wow.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It took a little work to make sure I got
- 4:51Speaker 1: that right, but I'm pretty sure the actual pronunciation is
- 4:53Speaker 1: Menachem Golan. The plot, according to our friends at IMDB... I'm.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Ready to hear this.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Well, actually, they stopped pretty early on, so that's almost
- 5:03Speaker 1: why I would argue with it, because it elaborates so
- 5:06Speaker 1: much on the first ten minutes, and that's it.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:09Speaker 1: The plot, according to them, is, Alfie and Bebe, two sweet,
- 5:12Speaker 1: naive youths from Moose Jaw, Canada, have come to America
- 5:15Speaker 1: to compete in the way distant future... I'm adding that part...
- 5:19Speaker 1: of 1994, in the 1994 World Vision Song Festival.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Although the pair have talent, they are beaten out by
- 5:26Speaker 1: the underhanded tactics of the festival favorites. Another duo with
- 5:30Speaker 1: the backing of BIM, Boogaloo International Music. Boogaloo International Music,
- 5:35Speaker 1: which he calls them several times. It seems like it
- 5:37Speaker 1: varies even within the move. And its leader, Mr.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Boogaloo.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Though crestfallen by their loss, Bebe and Alfie are soon
- 5:46Speaker 1: delighted to hear that Mr. Boogaloo has taken an interest
- 5:48Speaker 1: in their music and wants them to sign to his label.
- 5:51Speaker 1: All is looking up for the two until they begin
- 5:53Speaker 1: to discover the dark underside of the rock and roll world.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And discover means him hallucinating.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Once again, that's all like the first 10 to 15
- 6:03Speaker 1: minutes of the movie. We haven't even scratched the surface
- 6:05Speaker 1: of what's really going on. But before we even get
- 6:07Speaker 1: into that, it is time once again for.
- 6:10Speaker 3: One from the folks. So we will.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Swing the door open wide as we kick off this
- 6:15Speaker 1: inaugural session of stories from Miss Catherine Mary Stewart. So,
- 6:19Speaker 1: once again, we discussed many things that day, but one
- 6:22Speaker 1: of which she did sort of go into how she
- 6:25Speaker 1: got into the acting business, and this, her first major
- 6:28Speaker 1: role in The Apple.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Strangely, a lot of people at this convention have seen it,
- 6:34Speaker 4: and I didn't bring any photos from it, and it's like, what?
- 6:37Speaker 1: You didn't bring any photos? And I'm like, oh, no,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I can't believe it.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Because, of course, it would be someplace like this that
- 6:43Speaker 4: they would know The Apple. It's a crazy futuristic rock musical,
- 6:47Speaker 4: and set... We shot it in, like, 1980, and it's
- 6:52Speaker 4: set in the future, 1994. Way into the future of 1994.
- 6:58Speaker 4: But the way I got into that was I auditioned.
- 7:00Speaker 4: It's a rock musical, and there are a lot of
- 7:03Speaker 4: dancers in it. I auditioned as a dancer, and they
- 7:06Speaker 4: decided I was right for the lead female role. And so,
- 7:12Speaker 4: you know, it all happened so quickly, and I was
- 7:15Speaker 4: so sort of young and naive, and I just kind of.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I didn't even think about it.
- 7:20Speaker 4: I just kind of, I went, okay, I'll do that.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And it just kind of.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Happened and happened.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I didn't really have a chance to think of it.
- 7:25Speaker 4: And I didn't have enough life experience, I guess, to
- 7:28Speaker 4: be nervous.
- 7:29Speaker 3: It's a plus, I suppose. Yes, absolutely.
- 7:31Speaker 1: It was a plus, definitely.
- 7:33Speaker 4: And I just enjoyed myself. We shot it in Berlin
- 7:37Speaker 4: before the wall was down, you know. It was crazy there.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It was so much fun.
- 7:44Speaker 4: And just a weird, wild ride.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So thank you once again to Catherine for sharing her
- 7:49Speaker 1: personal take on the apple. And now on to our thoughts.
- 7:54Speaker 1: So first off, before we even begin, a huge spoiler alert.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Because a lot of you may not have seen this movie.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And I think it truly has to be seen to
- 8:05Speaker 1: be appreciated.
- 8:06Speaker 3: To be believed.
- 8:07Speaker 1: To be believed. To be enjoyed. It's something that... Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 1: you really have to see to fully understand or to
- 8:14Speaker 1: comprehend what it is we're going to be discussing here.
- 8:18Speaker 11: Or to truly realize that this is happening.
- 8:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 3: This movie did get made and that you are sitting
- 8:23Speaker 3: through it. I don't know how more people don't know
- 8:28Speaker 3: about it.
- 8:29Speaker 9: Really?
- 8:29Speaker 3: I just stumbled upon it a couple of months ago
- 8:32Speaker 3: late night on TV. And I don't know how until
- 8:35Speaker 3: that point I've never heard of it because... It should
- 8:39Speaker 3: have a huge, you know. It should at least be
- 8:41Speaker 3: a byword or something out there. Right, yeah. When you're
- 8:43Speaker 3: talking about Rocky Horror or Jesus Christ Superstar. Or The Apple.
- 8:48Speaker 12: Yeah, The Apple.
- 8:48Speaker 1: It should be thrown in there. And, yeah, I don't understand. Especially, like,
- 8:52Speaker 1: you know, me, as hardcore into Catherine Murray Stewart as
- 8:54Speaker 1: I was, the first time I heard of it is
- 8:57Speaker 1: when she started telling me that story about it. And
- 8:59Speaker 1: I was like, wait, what is this?
- 9:01Speaker 2: What?
- 9:02Speaker 1: What is this movie and why have i you know
- 9:03Speaker 1: i've tracked down every freaking thing you've seen over the
- 9:06Speaker 1: years i just didn't start that far back i guess
- 9:09Speaker 1: but yeah i'm watching sins with joan collins just because
- 9:13Speaker 1: you're in it and now i somehow miss this futuristic
- 9:17Speaker 1: musical yeah i don't know it's.
- 9:20Speaker 12: Far in the future of 1994 so yeah what i
- 9:25Speaker 12: really don't understand how i mean it it does have
- 9:28Speaker 12: a cult following that's what they were saying on the
- 9:30Speaker 12: site is there really are you know people that are into.
- 9:32Speaker 1: It but i don't understand how it's not more how
- 9:34Speaker 1: it's not more widespread and there aren't Just, you know,
- 9:37Speaker 1: like I said earlier, like, why aren't there parties going on?
- 9:40Speaker 1: You know, they're having Troll 2 parties, like you said, Roger.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Why don't they have the Apple parties? I mean, how
- 9:46Speaker 1: is this not a midnight showing?
- 9:48Speaker 3: Yeah, a Rocky Horror sing-along. I can't see it not.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I mean, how has Rocky Horror had the following heads,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and this hasn't been touched?
- 9:58Speaker 11: As quirky as Rocky Horror is and as catchy as
- 10:03Speaker 11: the tunes are, I think that definitely this.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Ratchets up the quirky past in Fenton.
- 10:11Speaker 11: And the tunes, you know, are just weird enough to
- 10:15Speaker 11: nod your head to, I guess, whatever, you know.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And there's so many freaking costumes. I mean, how could
- 10:20Speaker 1: you not want to go dressed as one of these
- 10:22Speaker 1: crazy people?
- 10:23Speaker 11: Or have a prism sticker and a pyramid cut out and,
- 10:27Speaker 11: you know, on your head or on your face or,
- 10:29Speaker 11: you know, everywhere, which they have on.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And you could be selling those.
- 10:32Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 1: That's marketing right there.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Hot topic. Yeah. This movie is so bizarre.
- 10:37Speaker 1: This movie has taught us anything marketing damn it yeah
- 10:42Speaker 1: so i don't even know how to begin well i
- 10:45Speaker 1: mean i did come up with sort of a real
- 10:48Speaker 1: version of what it is and it gets you know
- 10:50Speaker 1: it does take a little while before you realize it
- 10:52Speaker 1: but i think it was like 20 minutes in or
- 10:54Speaker 1: something or longer and then marlena finally went oh it's
- 10:58Speaker 1: adam and eve.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Yeah yes master Bring the hors d'oeuvre.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Our special hors d'oeuvre.
- 11:05Speaker 3: My special hors d'oeuvre.
- 11:07Speaker 1: The apple.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Bring the master's special hors d'oeuvre. The apple.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Shh.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Don't be afraid.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Taste it. Taste it.
- 11:20Speaker 7: Taste it.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Taste it.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Taste it.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Taste it.
- 11:24Speaker 1: So it's like a musical version of The Temptation of
- 11:26Speaker 1: Adam and Eve in a dystopian future surrounding the music industry. Yeah.
- 11:33Speaker 1: So that's, I mean, that's pretty close to, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 1: what it is, basically.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Bim is, or what's his name again? Bimolo? Bigelow. Bigelow.
- 11:43Speaker 11: He's basically the devil. They meet God later on.
- 11:49Speaker 3: We'll get to that. Yeah. Um.
- 11:51Speaker 11: But yeah, I guess everything in the middle is kind
- 11:54Speaker 11: of like, yeah, the temptation of Eve. And I guess
- 11:56Speaker 11: Adam's just kind of on the outside the whole while
- 11:59Speaker 11: trying to get.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Back to her.
- 12:01Speaker 11: And, you know, I guess you could cut it down
- 12:03Speaker 11: into a shortened version. Yeah, that's all it is.
- 12:05Speaker 1: That's basically what it is. It's just, it's weird that
- 12:09Speaker 1: they chose to do. Like, if you were going to
- 12:12Speaker 1: do some variation on the Adam and Eve story, why
- 12:16Speaker 1: they chose to do it futuristically... And why they chose
- 12:19Speaker 1: to center around the music industry.
- 12:21Speaker 11: Well, I think it's interesting that they're making such a
- 12:24Speaker 11: bold statement about the industry even back then.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I don't know if there have been.
- 12:29Speaker 11: That many movies or anything that had touched on it
- 12:31Speaker 11: back in the 80s, especially early 80s.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I'm not sure. That's what I took from it really
- 12:36Speaker 1: more than the biblical theme, which is pretty heavy-handed, but
- 12:41Speaker 1: at the same time, I think what I took more
- 12:43Speaker 1: from it was what a satire of the music industry,
- 12:47Speaker 1: the entertainment industry as a whole that it is. It
- 12:51Speaker 1: really is just hardcore.
- 12:56Speaker 6: Maybe that's why this movie didn't.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Do so well.
- 13:00Speaker 1: It was shut down from the inside.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Definitely a few reasons why. In this movie, television is
- 13:05Speaker 3: a bad thing. Industry is a bad thing. Consumerism and
- 13:10Speaker 3: even being... Following the status quo are all bad things,
- 13:13Speaker 3: you know? Yeah. And evil things. Not just bad, but
- 13:17Speaker 3: evil things.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Completely, yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Evil. Yeah, it definitely is throwing a few judgments out there.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Quite a few.
- 13:26Speaker 11: Basically, the head of, you know, this super mega corporation
- 13:31Speaker 11: whatever is.
- 13:33Speaker 3: He is the....
- 13:35Speaker 11: I guess, the ruler of the world at this point.
- 13:38Speaker 11: I mean, it's not even he's president or he's just
- 13:41Speaker 11: the ruler. He just, like, whatever he says goes.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Yeah, master.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Yes, exactly. And if somebody speaks out against him, they don't,
- 13:48Speaker 3: he doesn't. kill them or get them out of the way,
- 13:51Speaker 3: he just buys them. That's even scarier.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Which is kind of the way it goes. It's scary
- 13:58Speaker 1: how realistic some of this is. As ridiculous as the
- 14:01Speaker 1: rest is, the themes of this are pretty deep. The
- 14:06Speaker 1: more you look at it, the way it's looking at
- 14:08Speaker 1: this future, and the future is all about the evils
- 14:11Speaker 1: of excess. That's basically what it's using, that Adam and
- 14:14Speaker 1: Eve story, to explain the evils of excess. And It's
- 14:18Speaker 1: doing it in this silly way with the song and dance,
- 14:20Speaker 1: but I was looking down there, and each of these
- 14:22Speaker 1: songs as they go along is kind of hitting on
- 14:25Speaker 1: the big stuff. We get to him especially. In the beginning,
- 14:30Speaker 1: he doesn't drink. They don't use drugs. They're committed to
- 14:34Speaker 1: each other.
- 14:34Speaker 3: They're singing about love.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Yeah, they're singing about love. By the end, he's drinking.
- 14:39Speaker 1: She's signed on with him. She's doing drugs. They're both
- 14:43Speaker 1: having sex with random people, so it... It leads you
- 14:46Speaker 1: down every one of these evils that are, you know, just,
- 14:49Speaker 1: I don't know. And some of the songs fit exactly
- 14:51Speaker 1: with each of these sins, basically.
- 14:53Speaker 6: I like the song about taking drugs.
- 14:56Speaker 3: The speed song.
- 14:58Speaker 1: That was a little of both. That was kind of like,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I mean, it's very, listening to the lyrics, it's very
- 15:02Speaker 1: obviously about drugs. It's basically like boldly calling the entire
- 15:08Speaker 1: country of America like drug addicts.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Right. America, the land of the free, is shooting up
- 15:18Speaker 3: with pure energy.
- 15:19Speaker 12: And every day she has to take more speed.
- 15:26Speaker 1: America, the home of the brave, is popping pills to
- 15:30Speaker 1: keep up the pace. And every day she cries out
- 15:34Speaker 1: for more speed.
- 15:38Speaker 7: From New York out to L.A., Poppin' power by the hour.
- 15:52Speaker 3: We're also addicted to consumerism and the lifestyle of new
- 15:58Speaker 3: and the better and the best. I mean, it definitely
- 16:01Speaker 3: is more than just the top layer. It's a double entendre.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It's also, yeah, it's just that excess.
- 16:05Speaker 3: That speed is excess, and.
- 16:07Speaker 1: It's wanting more and more, faster and better.
- 16:09Speaker 6: It reminded me of the song Life in the Fast Lane.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Surely it makes you lose your mind. That's right. Well,
- 16:14Speaker 3: I'm trying to think.
- 16:15Speaker 11: Did they touch specifically on the seven deadly sins, or
- 16:18Speaker 11: were they just kind of in their.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Or was that even a... Because I'm trying to think.
- 16:22Speaker 3: They kind of mention a lot of it.
- 16:25Speaker 1: There's definitely a whole song about lust. He mentions using
- 16:29Speaker 1: people's greed against them in his song, Midway Through.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that song is about greed.
- 16:35Speaker 1: It's all about using people's greed to his own advantage.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So it probably, in one way or another, ties in
- 16:41Speaker 1: all of the seven deadly sins.
- 16:44Speaker 3: After the earthquake, that whole scene... when they're signing the contracts.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Another thing I thought is it's very much, I was
- 16:51Speaker 3: trying to catch the different groups of people, and it
- 16:54Speaker 3: was very much like Dante's Inferno. The different levels and
- 16:59Speaker 3: everything that they're seeing. I'd love to just sit and
- 17:02Speaker 3: you know, look over some texts and then go back
- 17:05Speaker 3: and compare and contrast. Cause I know it's all, it's,
- 17:07Speaker 3: it's all going to be in there.
- 17:08Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 1: That's, that's the thing. It's like at first glance, when I, when,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know, I first, you, you mentioned it and she'd mentioned,
- 17:13Speaker 1: I was like, okay. And I went and saw part
- 17:15Speaker 1: of it. I was just like, sort of glossing over
- 17:17Speaker 1: it as like, okay, this thing's sort of, you know,
- 17:18Speaker 1: a joke. And it really does. To look at it,
- 17:21Speaker 1: it looks like Can't Stop the Music. It very much
- 17:24Speaker 1: falls into the musicals of that time. You've got the
- 17:27Speaker 1: Xanadus and the Can't Stop the Music. I think it's
- 17:30Speaker 1: one of those that if you go back and watch
- 17:32Speaker 1: it more than once, you're going to catch a lot
- 17:34Speaker 1: more stuff. There really is. On different layers, story-wise, there
- 17:39Speaker 1: are a lot of other layers sort of mixed in
- 17:41Speaker 1: here in ways that you wouldn't expect. But then just
- 17:44Speaker 1: on top of that, the visuals going on, the set
- 17:48Speaker 1: dressing on these things.
- 17:49Speaker 3: It's like an assault on your system. There's a lot
- 17:51Speaker 3: of colors, a lot of flash, a lot of... It'll
- 17:54Speaker 3: give you a, wait, what was that? And you don't
- 17:56Speaker 3: see that again. A character that is dressed up intricately.
- 18:00Speaker 3: that somebody went crazy on in the costume designing, and
- 18:03Speaker 3: you see it for a split second.
- 18:04Speaker 11: I mean, it's like a serious, serious movie that's just
- 18:06Speaker 11: taken so bizarrely. It's not like, you know, it's tongue-in-cheek, really,
- 18:12Speaker 11: kind of, but it is.
- 18:12Speaker 1: In a way, it is. That's what's so weird about it.
- 18:14Speaker 3: That's what's so strange about it.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Is that it's working on both levels. It's like it's
- 18:18Speaker 1: very much... That's the thing, because I was looking at
- 18:21Speaker 1: it going, well, I mean, maybe they weren't in on
- 18:24Speaker 1: the joke. Maybe they're making this movie and they take
- 18:26Speaker 1: it really seriously, but we're laughing at it. But then
- 18:29Speaker 1: I'm looking at the part where they do the, okay,
- 18:32Speaker 1: it's time for the whole country to exercise.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And they have people stopping putting out fires and stopping
- 18:38Speaker 1: doing surgery on this guy to do mandatory dorky dancing. Right.
- 18:44Speaker 1: i'm like okay there's no way yeah there's no way
- 18:47Speaker 1: you can take that seriously that's a joke that's that's
- 18:49Speaker 1: like ridiculous satire so obviously like all of these jokes
- 18:54Speaker 1: they're in on it's not one of those that you
- 18:55Speaker 1: can like sort of blatantly point and laugh at because
- 18:58Speaker 1: they knew they were making the stuff that's ridiculous ridiculous
- 19:01Speaker 1: well you.
- 19:01Speaker 7: Know i didn't even realize that that's almost like a
- 19:03Speaker 7: throwback to 1984 yeah you know uh because that's what
- 19:07Speaker 7: happened in that book everyone had to stop and do
- 19:09Speaker 7: exercise and.
- 19:10Speaker 1: So, I mean, it is one of the... And maybe
- 19:11Speaker 1: that's why it's 94. Maybe it's their updating of the Orwell.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Even more futuristic. Yeah, that makes sense. And you know
- 19:19Speaker 3: he's not taking himself serious because every time Bim does
- 19:22Speaker 3: something over the top... Oh, wow. He'll wink at you.
- 19:25Speaker 3: He'll wink at the camera and you're like, oh, they
- 19:28Speaker 3: know what they're doing.
- 19:29Speaker 5: He knows.
- 19:30Speaker 3: He knows what's going on. Cheeky monkey. And they, by
- 19:35Speaker 3: the way... Brian, do you know who the actor is
- 19:38Speaker 3: that does that? Which one?
- 19:40Speaker 1: Satan, basically?
- 19:41Speaker 3: Yeah. He was fantastic.
- 19:44Speaker 11: I've seen him in maybe one other thing, but I
- 19:47Speaker 11: cannot place it. like i remember his face and his voice.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He kind of reminds me uh the the guy in
- 19:52Speaker 1: your uh frankenstein movie the flesh for frankenstein that he
- 19:55Speaker 1: reminds he doesn't look like him but like his voice
- 19:58Speaker 1: and his his you know his mannerisms kind of remind.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Me when he was singing the song about being a
- 20:02Speaker 7: master i thought he sounded like count dracula.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Well, he does wear the... It's weird their costumes. He
- 20:06Speaker 1: does kind of look like Dracula. They mix the costumes
- 20:08Speaker 1: because his Satan outfit is just Dracula with a horn.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:12Speaker 1: One horn.
- 20:13Speaker 3: One horn.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Because he's sporty, yo.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:15Speaker 7: This movie had the same vibe that The Forbidden Zone
- 20:19Speaker 7: had for me.
- 20:20Speaker 6: Kind of. Maybe just because I love that movie.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It's weird in a different way, though.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Because I don't know that there's any... real specific satire
- 20:29Speaker 1: in in forbidden zone it's just weird for the sake
- 20:31Speaker 1: of being weird this one really like there's so much
- 20:35Speaker 1: tied into it that i think there's a lot of
- 20:38Speaker 1: and again you wouldn't expect i mean to look at
- 20:40Speaker 1: this or we'll be playing some of the music and
- 20:42Speaker 1: you'll be like this is retarded but right it's like
- 20:44Speaker 1: if you stop and think about it there's not only
- 20:46Speaker 1: the biblical stuff there's also the the industry you know
- 20:50Speaker 1: the music industry evils But there's a lot of political stuff, too,
- 20:53Speaker 1: that it's like it really is taking this satirical look
- 20:56Speaker 1: at politics and the future and where the country's going
- 21:00Speaker 1: and where everybody's going and stuff you wouldn't expect from
- 21:03Speaker 1: that at all.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And I think the music is supposed to be bad.
- 21:09Speaker 3: The music that he's putting out is supposed to be bad,
- 21:12Speaker 3: but that people will still buy it. And their first
- 21:16Speaker 3: song is supposed to be over-the-top campy because people buy it.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I think... yeah i it just it's a lot smarter
- 21:25Speaker 3: than it looks than you would expect definitely that it's packaged.
- 21:29Speaker 1: That was like yeah go with your uh description of
- 21:32Speaker 1: the first time you saw it and you were uh
- 21:34Speaker 1: you were putting your comments on facebook yeah i was.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Actually watching this late at night on the this channel
- 21:39Speaker 3: my favorite channel and had basketball diaries on last night
- 21:43Speaker 3: and they had plug plug yeah they had uh I
- 21:48Speaker 3: was like, what is this? In the first two minutes
- 21:51Speaker 3: when the opening song comes on, I was like, what
- 21:53Speaker 3: is this crap that I'm watching? I'm typing into Facebook,
- 21:56Speaker 3: and in about five minutes, I post it again. I
- 22:00Speaker 3: was like, cancel that. This is awesome. Because I could
- 22:04Speaker 3: tell there's something going on here. This is going to
- 22:07Speaker 3: be a good one, and how did I ever miss
- 22:09Speaker 3: this movie?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that would be a lot of people's reaction. Well, again,
- 22:14Speaker 1: anybody who would give it a chance. I think a
- 22:16Speaker 1: lot of people, a lot of regular people especially, would
- 22:19Speaker 1: look at it and go, what the hell is this?
- 22:21Speaker 3: And flip the channel.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And would never make it into it, even like five,
- 22:25Speaker 1: ten minutes where you start going, wait, there's other stuff
- 22:27Speaker 1: going on here.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Well, I hate musicals. I notoriously cannot stand them. I'm
- 22:32Speaker 3: not a fan of Rocky Horror.
- 22:33Speaker 11: I will say that Repo, I didn't like it as
- 22:37Speaker 11: much as everybody, but I did dig it. I think
- 22:39Speaker 11: Jesus Christ Superstar was the only one that I was
- 22:41Speaker 11: because I grew up with that.
- 22:42Speaker 3: I really like that one. But again, that's just a
- 22:45Speaker 3: good musical. Yeah, exactly.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And they work in kind of a cool story along
- 22:49Speaker 1: the way.
- 22:49Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Again, you've got somebody doing amazing music and lyrics, and
- 22:53Speaker 1: that's the thing with this one. It's like, it is bad,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and we'll try to go with, you know, that they were,
- 22:59Speaker 1: especially the stuff that Bim's putting out. It's like, that's,
- 23:02Speaker 1: it would be interesting to see that. they were or
- 23:06Speaker 1: to say that they're putting out something specifically bad because
- 23:09Speaker 1: i feel like that's the way it is like the
- 23:10Speaker 1: stuff that's the most popular that most people buy into
- 23:14Speaker 1: is usually the stuff that i think is terrible yeah
- 23:17Speaker 1: so it is it to me that would be a
- 23:18Speaker 1: commentary that even if they didn't mean it to be
- 23:21Speaker 1: that's kind of how i read it it's like wow
- 23:23Speaker 1: most of the stuff that is big and popular i
- 23:25Speaker 1: think it's horrible so i think you've got that.
- 23:28Speaker 7: And also i think they were like almost putting it
- 23:31Speaker 7: out there that, you know, everything that people listen to,
- 23:33Speaker 7: like most music on the radio, people feel like they
- 23:36Speaker 7: relate to it.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Like love songs and things like that.
- 23:39Speaker 7: It was written by someone to sell yeah yeah it
- 23:42Speaker 7: wasn't it didn't come from anybody's.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Heart but i think those go a little better like
- 23:46Speaker 1: the first couple out of really are kind of rough
- 23:48Speaker 1: to get through because yeah the first one on the
- 23:51Speaker 1: stage you're just blinded by all the glitter and.
- 23:53Speaker 3: You're still wondering what the hell's going.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yeah you're still in shock and then when they get
- 23:57Speaker 1: to their duo hippie song you're just like it really
- 23:59Speaker 1: i mean they are making fun of like folk songs
- 24:02Speaker 1: and it's so over the top like Peace and love,
- 24:05Speaker 1: and we have each other.
- 24:06Speaker 3: And they're just coming out of Christopher Cross at that
- 24:09Speaker 3: point in my day. Well, actually, they're probably still in
- 24:12Speaker 3: the middle of it.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you've still got a couple of years across. So, yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 1: I mean, it really is sort of a little too
- 24:19Speaker 1: close to home probably at that point. But I think
- 24:21Speaker 1: as it goes on, I think some of the other ones,
- 24:23Speaker 1: once you get past the apple, because the apple's pretty bad,
- 24:27Speaker 1: it's awesome. That's probably my favorite scene because the visuals
- 24:29Speaker 1: are amazing.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Oh, it's amazing, yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 1: It just keeps getting you. The lyrics in the song
- 24:34Speaker 1: are pretty rough. But as you get into the sappier songs,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I think they're a little better written. I think the.
- 24:40Speaker 3: If you're thinking of the song that the girl sings
- 24:43Speaker 3: after she tells her to go, what.
- 24:45Speaker 1: That one was pretty good. I was thinking, well, just
- 24:47Speaker 1: from that point on, almost, they get a little better.
- 24:49Speaker 3: It's like the.
- 24:51Speaker 1: No, the one that he writes for her, the Where
- 24:53Speaker 1: Is It Gone.
- 24:53Speaker 13: I've heard that he's treating her well and she's happy
- 24:59Speaker 13: I'll believe it when she tells me so Oh, where.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Has it gone? Where has it gone?
- 25:13Speaker 1: Oh, where has it gone?
- 25:15Speaker 13: Where has love gone?
- 25:22Speaker 1: Is it like, I do not like his vocals on
- 25:24Speaker 1: it at all, but I'm like, if you gave that
- 25:26Speaker 1: to somebody else, it doesn't sound unlike a normal love song.
- 25:30Speaker 1: And then even the big, you know, once again, sappy,
- 25:32Speaker 1: the big sappy one of them singing to each other
- 25:34Speaker 1: in the rain. Yeah. I kind of like that. That
- 25:37Speaker 1: one has a very operatic moment to it where it's
- 25:39Speaker 1: just like, it really is like, heightened, but at the
- 25:42Speaker 1: same time you do start to see, I mean, it
- 25:44Speaker 1: really does represent these two characters and then they, you know,
- 25:47Speaker 1: can't be together. It's, it's, I guess that's more of
- 25:50Speaker 1: the West side story moment, but those, I think that
- 25:53Speaker 1: music gets a little better in that mid port there
- 25:55Speaker 1: that I really like that one in particular, I feel
- 25:57Speaker 1: like done differently. I could very easily picture it being
- 26:01Speaker 1: in the middle of an Andrew Lloyd Webber music right
- 26:03Speaker 1: it really like even the orchestration it felt a lot
- 26:06Speaker 1: more scaled to that level where it really which again
- 26:09Speaker 1: that stuff was all hitting i mean he was becoming
- 26:12Speaker 1: the biggest you know music musical creator you know at
- 26:15Speaker 1: that point he was right in the middle of all
- 26:17Speaker 1: of his hits i mean once again they're probably drawing
- 26:20Speaker 1: a little bit from that or satirizing.
- 26:23Speaker 7: This is way off subject but i just had this
- 26:26Speaker 7: horrible memory flash into my mind and i have to
- 26:28Speaker 7: share it with someone friday night i was having dinner
- 26:31Speaker 7: with some people at uh ramsay's and uh two of
- 26:35Speaker 7: the servers walked by and they just looked at each
- 26:37Speaker 7: other and they started snapping and dancing and we.
- 26:40Speaker 6: All like froze we're like Is West Side Story going
- 26:43Speaker 6: to break out? What's going to happen? It was so weird.
- 26:46Speaker 6: It was the weirdest thing ever.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 26:49Speaker 7: It was so weird I had to block that out
- 26:51Speaker 7: of my mind.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Once again, you know, musicals break out around you all
- 26:54Speaker 1: the time.
- 26:54Speaker 4: I guess.
- 26:55Speaker 3: You never know when you're in a musical.
- 26:56Speaker 9: I know.
- 26:57Speaker 11: But I'll definitely say, I mean, me not being on
- 26:59Speaker 11: board for musicals, and I didn't really fight this as
- 27:02Speaker 11: far as, like, not wanting to like it because it
- 27:04Speaker 11: was just, freaking bizarre enough that I dug it just
- 27:07Speaker 11: for that. Like I dug it just for the wow factor.
- 27:10Speaker 11: Like what is going on? And who's like, whoever thought
- 27:13Speaker 11: of the costumes and the, and the scenery and put
- 27:16Speaker 11: all that together with these characters, seeing these songs, like, What?
- 27:22Speaker 11: Just for that, I'm like, this is pretty awesome.
- 27:24Speaker 3: And you get a huge payoff in the end.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 27:28Speaker 1: We'll save the end.
- 27:29Speaker 3: It's so infinitely awesome.
- 27:31Speaker 1: But, yeah, I'll say that's kind of the same thing.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I went into it kind of like, whoa, this is
- 27:36Speaker 1: crazy and ridiculous, and what the hell is going on?
- 27:38Speaker 1: And then the more ridiculous it gets, it's probably by
- 27:41Speaker 1: the time it hits that scene of the apple. Where
- 27:44Speaker 1: I was just like, okay, I'm sold. I mean, you've
- 27:47Speaker 1: got them basically doing a musical number in hell. You've
- 27:50Speaker 1: got the real vampire.
- 27:56Speaker 3: You get to meet a real vampire.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Bonus!
- 27:59Speaker 3: I did not know that that's what they looked like. Bonus!
- 28:01Speaker 11: There's that prismatic... Stuff on everything, like stickers, clothes, the steps,
- 28:08Speaker 11: the kaleidoscopism. Once again, this was the coming of that
- 28:12Speaker 11: specific thing.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Because remember when it was so impossible to find those
- 28:15Speaker 1: foil stickers? When they first made them, they put it
- 28:19Speaker 1: on the cover of National Geographic.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:21Speaker 1: That's how huge it was. It was like, Oh my God,
- 28:23Speaker 1: look what we made. Everybody look what we made. So
- 28:26Speaker 1: it was like, that really was like the future, which
- 28:28Speaker 1: I guess it was. Cause now it's on everybody's credit card.
- 28:30Speaker 1: You know, everybody's probably got one on them every day
- 28:33Speaker 1: of their life.
- 28:34Speaker 2: So.
- 28:34Speaker 1: It really did worm its way into our everyday lives.
- 28:36Speaker 1: But it's funny that their way was like, it's on everything.
- 28:40Speaker 1: It really covers the walls and the stairwells and hubcaps.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Stickers on your forehead.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Every surface in the future is covered in shiny sticker material.
- 28:49Speaker 6: I really like this scene.
- 28:51Speaker 7: I think my favorite part of the whole movie is
- 28:53Speaker 7: where that guy was like, look what I invented.
- 28:55Speaker 6: It's a, what did he call it?
- 28:56Speaker 3: A BIM mark? A BIM mark.
- 28:58Speaker 6: And they put it on his forehead and then what's
- 29:02Speaker 6: his face?
- 29:03Speaker 1: Boogaloo.
- 29:04Speaker 7: Demanded that everyone wear a bim mark and i'm just
- 29:07Speaker 7: like it's a fucking sticker people really.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And i'm still saying we bring that back yeah because
- 29:12Speaker 1: i just got some transformer stickers i'm thinking of putting
- 29:14Speaker 1: that decepticon.
- 29:15Speaker 3: The kind that you if you put your finger on
- 29:17Speaker 3: that it reveals oh yeah i'll take that i'll take
- 29:21Speaker 3: one of those.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Start wearing one of those around like mood stickers you
- 29:24Speaker 1: have to rub it to find out what side you're
- 29:26Speaker 1: on Dude, I'm like, I know it's a Decepticon.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Look at his paint scheme. Yeah, but all of them
- 29:32Speaker 3: were the Autobot shape, and it only looked like the
- 29:34Speaker 3: Decepticon afterwards. Sneaky bastards.
- 29:36Speaker 1: So, but that actually enters into another, like, to me,
- 29:39Speaker 1: that was... one of the first times when I was like, okay,
- 29:42Speaker 1: that's moving into a bigger territory. When, at first, it
- 29:46Speaker 1: was just about being a silly musical, and then it
- 29:48Speaker 1: moved into being the satire of the music industry. But
- 29:51Speaker 1: by the time he decrees that everyone across the land
- 29:55Speaker 1: must wear this sticker on them... I'm like, okay, this
- 29:59Speaker 1: is now political satire. When this future world and this leader,
- 30:04Speaker 1: as he were, has now decided that everyone.
- 30:08Speaker 3: This is very gold star.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of. But at the same time, it's also
- 30:12Speaker 1: just like, isn't this like fascism? At what point does
- 30:16Speaker 1: it cross over into... Because there's many times where it
- 30:19Speaker 1: sort of feels like Especially when he's like the midway
- 30:23Speaker 1: into the movie, we've got our hero sitting in the
- 30:25Speaker 1: park on the ground and this guy comes up to
- 30:27Speaker 1: him and like hits him with a baton and he's like, basically, well, no,
- 30:31Speaker 1: basically he says papers. He asked him for his ID,
- 30:35Speaker 1: but basically he's wearing this big black outfit. it and
- 30:37Speaker 1: he asked him for his papers i mean it's the
- 30:38Speaker 1: most nazi state yeah ever and especially later when you've
- 30:42Speaker 1: got almost these stormtroopers come running out in like battle
- 30:45Speaker 1: gear it's like there's a lot of like subtle under
- 30:49Speaker 1: not so subtle.
- 30:50Speaker 3: And even the and even the uh the nuns you
- 30:53Speaker 3: can say the religion is part of it too because
- 30:56Speaker 3: the nuns are even doing the exercise so everybody's.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Everybody and once again it works it in that everybody
- 31:01Speaker 1: is sort of under this you know grand rule of
- 31:05Speaker 1: yeah it was one person and i don't know i
- 31:08Speaker 1: think that part was what was really cool was once
- 31:10Speaker 1: you started seeing that that it sort of crosses over
- 31:13Speaker 1: like it was weird i was thinking that in watching
- 31:16Speaker 1: it this time i was like it really is sort
- 31:18Speaker 1: of throwing out there this idea of so we've spent
- 31:21Speaker 1: so much time in this country in particular trying to
- 31:24Speaker 1: keep church and state separate yeah well this poses this
- 31:28Speaker 1: question that what if like state and the entertainment industry
- 31:31Speaker 1: became one right and what if it really was like
- 31:35Speaker 1: like you've got basically the the music industry cutthroat way
- 31:40Speaker 1: of living applied toward politics yeah like towards the way
- 31:44Speaker 1: that you run your company so that you really do
- 31:46Speaker 1: have people just buying other people out when they need
- 31:48Speaker 1: them or i don't know or like using the press
- 31:51Speaker 1: like he just in general like the entire they're doing
- 31:54Speaker 1: an entire song and dance number and the press is
- 31:57Speaker 1: singing along and dancing with them right next to them.
- 32:00Speaker 1: You know? So I was like, this has a lot
- 32:02Speaker 1: to say about like a government that also controls the
- 32:05Speaker 1: press and controls what everybody sees and thinks of the
- 32:09Speaker 1: government that's going on.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Or that you sell the album before you record it.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I love that. And the press is doing an interview
- 32:16Speaker 3: about the album before they record it.
- 32:17Speaker 8: Before it's out.
- 32:18Speaker 3: That's marketing.
- 32:19Speaker 1: That's what he says.
- 32:20Speaker 3: That's marketing.
- 32:21Speaker 7: It's really funny because if you think about it, this
- 32:23Speaker 7: century alone, like, The world is controlled by entertainment.
- 32:28Speaker 6: It is.
- 32:29Speaker 7: And things that were knowledge have become a form of entertainment.
- 32:33Speaker 7: Like news is a form of entertainment.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Oh, it's not news anymore. It's politics and TMZ. That's it.
- 32:41Speaker 1: But it's using that. Like everybody kind of knows at
- 32:44Speaker 1: this point. And I guess it's always been like that
- 32:46Speaker 1: since politics has sort of. moved into having press of
- 32:50Speaker 1: any kind that you sort of had to find ways
- 32:52Speaker 1: to use it to your advantage. But now, I mean,
- 32:54Speaker 1: we've really found a way to.
- 32:57Speaker 7: Yeah, and we've come to an age, and it's been
- 33:00Speaker 7: like this for a long time, where facts are manipulated
- 33:02Speaker 7: to be more entertaining.
- 33:04Speaker 6: More watchable, more readable. You know, things aren't just facts.
- 33:07Speaker 7: They're like played with just so people are interested.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Well, and also like the, much like this movie kind
- 33:14Speaker 1: of overwhelms you. They found a way to like that,
- 33:16Speaker 1: that came about with like the nine 11 coverage went like,
- 33:19Speaker 1: let's put so much information on the screen. It's like,
- 33:22Speaker 1: you've got a screen split into four with two different
- 33:25Speaker 1: people doing this. You've got a tape running at the
- 33:27Speaker 1: bottom with different information. You've got footage of something over
- 33:30Speaker 1: here that, So it's like, if we throw enough information
- 33:33Speaker 1: at you, you'll be so confused, you won't really know
- 33:35Speaker 1: what's going on in any of them.
- 33:36Speaker 3: It defeats the purpose of having information.
- 33:39Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 33:39Speaker 1: So it definitely works that. And I was thinking almost
- 33:41Speaker 1: an example where, you know, another movie where they sort
- 33:44Speaker 1: of play with that a lot more. specifically is like
- 33:47Speaker 1: wag the dog where they start manipulating things and actually
- 33:52Speaker 1: creating situations so that they can publicize them so that
- 33:56Speaker 1: they can get what they want in the end. So
- 33:57Speaker 1: this definitely has a little touch of that, you know,
- 34:00Speaker 1: well before they came up with that idea.
- 34:02Speaker 3: And the last time that I talked about this, um,
- 34:05Speaker 3: when I first brought it up, the two things that
- 34:07Speaker 3: came to mind when I, when I saw it the
- 34:09Speaker 3: first time were, um, Southland tales in the way they share,
- 34:13Speaker 3: they use information and manipulate information. Um, And just American
- 34:18Speaker 3: Idol in general. And the whole thing feels like, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 3: if you could look inside of American Idol, who Fox
- 34:24Speaker 3: that puts it out is also a major news corporation.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Are they really controlling everything? Do they really, you know,
- 34:30Speaker 3: do they really count the votes that everybody, you know, says?
- 34:33Speaker 3: Or does the news tell you which person to vote for?
- 34:38Speaker 3: You know, is all this being manipulated and we don't
- 34:40Speaker 3: see it, you know?
- 34:42Speaker 1: Or, I mean, in the grand scheme of things, like,
- 34:44Speaker 1: when we have a political... When we have, like, a
- 34:48Speaker 1: presidential election, things can go wrong. Who knows who's really
- 34:52Speaker 1: counting all these things?
- 34:53Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:54Speaker 1: As we saw firsthand. So it's like, really, who is
- 34:57Speaker 1: in control of this? And how do we know that
- 34:59Speaker 1: they're in control of this?
- 35:00Speaker 6: It's just so interesting.
- 35:01Speaker 7: And, like, if you watch Mad Men and stuff, or, like...
- 35:04Speaker 7: If you think about it, it's way more subtle now,
- 35:06Speaker 7: which I think is almost worse. But everything that we buy,
- 35:09Speaker 7: everything that we are, like America especially more than any
- 35:13Speaker 7: other country, it's.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Subliminal messages, product placement, things like that.
- 35:19Speaker 3: It's very George Orwell. It's very.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Brave New World.
- 35:27Speaker 3: This segment brought to you by Mountain Dew. Yeah, right?
- 35:31Speaker 1: Probably the scariest part of that, though, is that we're
- 35:33Speaker 1: all aware of it. At least in the old scary stories,
- 35:37Speaker 1: all the people were sort of drones and they were
- 35:39Speaker 1: oblivious to the fact that they were being led down
- 35:41Speaker 1: this path. Very literally in this movie, led down the
- 35:44Speaker 1: wrong path. But now it's like we kind of know it.
- 35:47Speaker 1: We realize it and we just don't really care. We
- 35:50Speaker 1: crave it. I think we crave it. I think we
- 35:52Speaker 1: ask for it. this may be more of the coming
- 35:55Speaker 1: of all these sins. It may be more gluttony that
- 35:57Speaker 1: keeps us from like, well, I could do something about it,
- 36:00Speaker 1: but what else is on TV? So I mean, we
- 36:03Speaker 1: may have fallen right into that trap of we're so
- 36:06Speaker 1: lazy at this point that we sort of go along
- 36:08Speaker 1: with what they say because we don't feel like challenging it.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Because we're consumers. We're consumers. We like to consume.
- 36:16Speaker 1: First and foremost, almost.
- 36:18Speaker 3: And what is it that I want? What is it
- 36:21Speaker 3: that you want? It's like, I don't have TV because
- 36:23Speaker 3: I can't afford it, but I like watching movies. I
- 36:25Speaker 3: like the internet. I like to play games.
- 36:29Speaker 11: These are certain things that I like and want to
- 36:31Speaker 11: do and will always seek out no matter what. Even
- 36:34Speaker 11: if the big evil corporation is finally owning everything and
- 36:39Speaker 11: owns a piece of your.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Ass, everybody's. am I going to fight the system by
- 36:43Speaker 3: not watching movies, by not, you know.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Well, especially once the system realizes what it is that
- 36:50Speaker 1: you want and how to use that against you. Basically,
- 36:53Speaker 1: it's that company store idea. It's like, okay, we've got
- 36:56Speaker 1: them on board. Now we give them just enough to
- 36:58Speaker 1: keep them doing what we want them to do, but
- 37:00Speaker 1: not enough to ever, you know, be free and really
- 37:03Speaker 1: do whatever they want. Just enough to keep them doing
- 37:05Speaker 1: what we want to do, but in docile, yeah, more
- 37:08Speaker 1: than anything else.
- 37:09Speaker 3: After 9-11, which was the most unifying moment in American
- 37:14Speaker 3: history that I've been a part of, the one thing
- 37:18Speaker 3: the president came out and said wasn't go to church,
- 37:21Speaker 3: if that's your thing, or go out and volunteer or
- 37:26Speaker 3: go help out. No, it was go out and buy.
- 37:29Speaker 3: That's what they needed us to do. They don't want
- 37:31Speaker 3: you at home watching the news. They wanted you to
- 37:34Speaker 3: go out and buy something.
- 37:36Speaker 1: And it became a pride thing. It was almost like
- 37:40Speaker 1: if our economy falls apart, they win. The only way
- 37:44Speaker 1: to keep our economy going is for you to be
- 37:46Speaker 1: a better consumer and a better American and go buy
- 37:49Speaker 1: more stuff. So, yeah, we fall right into that trap. But,
- 37:53Speaker 1: I mean, what's the way out of it really?
- 37:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Become a hippie? Yeah, exactly. That's what this movie is
- 38:01Speaker 3: telling you to do. Television is bad. They don't like television.
- 38:05Speaker 1: That was a very specific quote. I think I wrote
- 38:07Speaker 1: it down. Let me see here. As he looks at
- 38:10Speaker 1: the hippies and his line was, oh yeah, he says,
- 38:14Speaker 1: these people don't like television.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Exactly. And that's all he said.
- 38:18Speaker 1: He didn't use anything else to describe who they were,
- 38:21Speaker 1: what they stood for. He just looked at them and said,
- 38:24Speaker 1: these people don't like television. and that said it like
- 38:27Speaker 1: it put them you know it pinpointed exactly what they
- 38:30Speaker 1: were and what they stood for and you know so
- 38:32Speaker 1: you sort of knew where they were and later they
- 38:34Speaker 1: just called them a bunch of hippies which is dirty i.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Think they've used dirty hippies from the 60s.
- 38:39Speaker 1: From the 60s so they've been hanging around they've been
- 38:42Speaker 1: hanging around in those parks for a long time but if.
- 38:44Speaker 3: You want salvation go light fires.
- 38:46Speaker 1: In the park yep hippies love fires that's what we've.
- 38:49Speaker 11: Learned but not too many just a couple yeah several
- 38:53Speaker 11: little fires a bunch of little.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Little fires Oh!
- 38:56Speaker 1: You'd think they'd all want to get together in that
- 38:58Speaker 1: hippie mentality, but no. They want to segregate into little areas. Oh, God.
- 39:05Speaker 3: But they weren't wearing Nikes. Yes, no.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Brand new Nikes.
- 39:08Speaker 3: You got that. They weren't the, what is that, the
- 39:10Speaker 3: Heaven's Gate cult? No. Brand new Nikes, castration, Hale-Bob, you know.
- 39:15Speaker 3: They were pretty close, Roger.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we decided by the end that's why this is
- 39:20Speaker 1: a cult movie.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Especially the climax, yeah. We'll talk about the climax.
- 39:23Speaker 6: It's a cult movie.
- 39:24Speaker 1: This is a cult movie, all right.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Join the cult. I would join a cult.
- 39:28Speaker 6: That'd be cool.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 39:30Speaker 6: I'd go with Mormonism.
- 39:33Speaker 3: You're obsessed with Mormonism. I'm so obsessed with Mormonism. You're terrible.
- 39:38Speaker 3: There's a whole bunch of them right down the street
- 39:39Speaker 3: from me. Cool. We'll give them your number.
- 39:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:43Speaker 3: I mean.
- 39:44Speaker 1: They make you wear a Ben Mark, too.
- 39:45Speaker 8: I hate you to death.
- 39:46Speaker 7: I was pretty upset the other day when I realized
- 39:49Speaker 7: my ex-boyfriend's Mormon mother took me off her Facebook friends list.
- 39:52Speaker 6: I was like, does this mean when the apocalypse comes,
- 39:54Speaker 6: I'm not covered?
- 39:56Speaker 1: You had it by association.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I know her.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I know her.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I'm cool, man. She can come.
- 40:00Speaker 6: She can come.
- 40:03Speaker 9: Oh, Lord.
- 40:03Speaker 1: We'll get back to that later. We're going to have.
- 40:06Speaker 3: To have an intervention with you. That's probably true.
- 40:11Speaker 6: But for so many reasons.
- 40:13Speaker 3: We just pissed off all the Mormons.
- 40:16Speaker 7: Because I'm sure we had so many.
- 40:18Speaker 3: So many Mormons. If we had one, they're gone now.
- 40:21Speaker 7: Last night I was driving, and there were these two
- 40:23Speaker 7: Mormon missionaries on a bicycle, and it was dark, and
- 40:26Speaker 7: we were coming back from Cincinnati, and we were on
- 40:29Speaker 7: this highway getting on an exit, and my friend in
- 40:32Speaker 7: the car beside me, she goes.
- 40:33Speaker 6: Fucking Mormons!
- 40:36Speaker 3: Did you say your friend in the car was Amish? No,
- 40:40Speaker 3: that's next to me. Amish? Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 1: There's so many things wrong with that statement.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Can an Amish person go fucking Mormon? As they're driving
- 40:48Speaker 3: a car. If I'm ever a director, I'm putting that
- 40:52Speaker 3: into a movie. That's awesome.
- 40:56Speaker 6: No, she is very Christian.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 40:58Speaker 6: Or so she says.
- 40:59Speaker 3: No wonder. Damn Christians. Let's call it that. I love how,
- 41:04Speaker 3: how judgmental she was. Fucking mom.
- 41:06Speaker 7: I mean, I guess it's not that funny, but it
- 41:12Speaker 7: was so funny at the time.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Damn Christians.
- 41:14Speaker 9: Damn.
- 41:16Speaker 1: But the, uh, yeah, I was just trying to look
- 41:18Speaker 1: at some of the, the weirder stuff that I, yeah.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Trying to keep track of as we went along here. Um, just,
- 41:24Speaker 1: just in general, the, the makeup, um, The people in general,
- 41:29Speaker 1: you were asking about, let's see, what is, Mr. Boogalow is,
- 41:33Speaker 1: now I have to pronounce this, Vladek Shalbal.
- 41:39Speaker 3: Wow, sounds right. Sal? Yeah, Sal's right.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Sure, sounds right. Who I believe is actually in Red Dawn.
- 41:46Speaker 3: That's him.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 41:47Speaker 3: I remember correctly. You are right. That is him. He's
- 41:50Speaker 3: in Red Dawn. He is the guy with, he's the
- 41:54Speaker 3: Russian representative next to the Cuban guy. Cuban guy. Yeah.
- 41:58Speaker 1: I figured that would be our only reference because he's
- 42:00Speaker 1: in a lot of stuff. He's been in a ton.
- 42:03Speaker 1: But I figured, you know, geeks that we are, Red
- 42:05Speaker 1: Dawn would do it for us. But to me, you know,
- 42:09Speaker 1: Satan wasn't the scary one. To me, his right-hand man
- 42:12Speaker 1: was frightening.
- 42:13Speaker 3: What was his name? The Chris Tucker from Fifth Element?
- 42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the Chris Tucker stand-in, who I believe was Shake.
- 42:19Speaker 3: His teeth were rowdy. Gross.
- 42:22Speaker 1: It was some sort of grill I'm assuming once again
- 42:25Speaker 1: looking into the future he saw grill well before the
- 42:27Speaker 1: rest of the rap community caught on but Flavor Flav
- 42:31Speaker 1: is hype man definitely he was the hype man but
- 42:35Speaker 1: it's one of those yeah I mean his makeup especially
- 42:38Speaker 1: as it goes on it gets more elaborate and more
- 42:41Speaker 1: scary yeah and it is it's just funny that that
- 42:45Speaker 1: was the one like as it went on I was
- 42:47Speaker 1: like that guy's frightening right that.
- 42:49Speaker 3: Reminded me of a male Grace Jones in a way.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Yeah kind of He's freakishly skinny and he's, yeah, he's just,
- 42:55Speaker 1: he's weird looking.
- 42:56Speaker 3: Oh, the big robe with the, with the little tiny speedo.
- 43:00Speaker 3: That look, what?
- 43:01Speaker 1: You're not going to wear that every day. I do
- 43:03Speaker 1: want that robe.
- 43:04Speaker 3: I don't care. That robe was awesome.
- 43:05Speaker 6: It was.
- 43:05Speaker 3: And you were going to sauna with me.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Sauna.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Sauna.
- 43:09Speaker 1: So, yeah, I looked at him and I was like,
- 43:11Speaker 1: where is this guy from? You know, where did he
- 43:14Speaker 1: come from? And I mean, he's he is an actor,
- 43:16Speaker 1: but he hadn't done many movies. I was like, what
- 43:18Speaker 1: the hell? Where did they get him for this? He's
- 43:20Speaker 1: like huge on Broadway, which doesn't surprise watching him perform.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I'm like, he's very broad.
- 43:25Speaker 3: He's very jazz hands.
- 43:26Speaker 1: He's definitely jazz hands. But I mean, he was in
- 43:28Speaker 1: he was like, I think he originated Starlight Express. I mean,
- 43:31Speaker 1: that's fantastic. huge I mean he was in Five Guys
- 43:34Speaker 1: Named Mo he did the musical version of Gone With
- 43:37Speaker 1: The Wind and he actually wrote like a piece about
- 43:39Speaker 1: the closure of it so I mean he's pretty big
- 43:42Speaker 1: in the whole the Broadway area so I mean that's
- 43:45Speaker 1: yeah that's Seems fitting, actually, the more I watched him
- 43:48Speaker 1: perform this time, even as his dancing goes on. He
- 43:51Speaker 1: definitely looks like he's got training and probably knows what
- 43:54Speaker 1: he's doing. Speaking of which, the choreography was actually really good.
- 43:58Speaker 1: As silly as the songs are, the choreography was impressive.
- 44:02Speaker 1: And then check that, too. It's Nigel, and I don't
- 44:06Speaker 1: watch the show, so I'll mess up his last name, Linthgoe.
- 44:09Speaker 1: He was the choreographer. They say today he's best known
- 44:12Speaker 1: as the head judge and producer of So You Think
- 44:14Speaker 1: You Can Dance. So it all comes full circle. Is
- 44:19Speaker 1: that a Fox show? Wait a minute. Maybe we're on
- 44:22Speaker 1: to something here.
- 44:23Speaker 3: I think we're on to something. wow yeah there's so
- 44:26Speaker 3: much of it that really was well i mean was
- 44:28Speaker 3: well done.
- 44:28Speaker 1: As for as bad as it was yeah i mean
- 44:30Speaker 1: it's i mean there's a level where yes it's a
- 44:32Speaker 1: bad movie but again there's there's so much of it
- 44:35Speaker 1: that's impressive at the same time kind of for the
- 44:37Speaker 1: reasons you said roger but but the the choreography wasn't
- 44:40Speaker 1: that to me the choreography was almost like top notch
- 44:43Speaker 1: for that kind of movie.
- 44:45Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say it was a bad movie i
- 44:46Speaker 3: don't i i I don't think I can call it that.
- 44:49Speaker 1: I think most people would watch it casually and categorize
- 44:53Speaker 1: it as that. I think, again, we look at things
- 44:56Speaker 1: much deeper that I think there's way too many levels
- 45:00Speaker 1: to just write it off as a bad movie, though.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I think it's a little smarter than that, and it's
- 45:05Speaker 1: definitely just creative-wise it's worth looking at just for the visuals.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Once again, just going into the sets... yeah are amazing
- 45:15Speaker 1: how much time let's talk about just the the future
- 45:18Speaker 1: world do you want to talk about the vehicles.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Future cars yeah it's decked out.
- 45:23Speaker 11: Just adding shit on top of it that makes it
- 45:26Speaker 11: a future car random shit like grab bars and like
- 45:29Speaker 11: lights and fins and bubbles.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Right like yeah everything different colors yeah it's bizarre they
- 45:36Speaker 3: went all out and you know there were several scenes
- 45:38Speaker 3: where i was like well they didn't have uh CG
- 45:42Speaker 3: to put that backdrop in. So where are they building
- 45:45Speaker 3: this futuristic looking building that's got a dome of a
- 45:49Speaker 3: church in the back and cut that in? It looked really...
- 45:53Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, you can see that it was set pieces,
- 45:56Speaker 3: set over, but the scale of a lot of it
- 45:59Speaker 3: was very big. And the people that, you know, they
- 46:02Speaker 3: had train cars filled with people decked out in these
- 46:05Speaker 3: costume singings. And, like, they spent a lot of money
- 46:08Speaker 3: or at least a lot of time doing this.
- 46:10Speaker 1: I think more than anything, a lot of time because
- 46:12Speaker 1: everything was really elaborate.
- 46:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 46:14Speaker 1: And it wasn't just the stuff right up in the
- 46:16Speaker 1: front of the scene.
- 46:17Speaker 7: Mm-mm.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Even if it was an exterior, in the city they
- 46:20Speaker 1: did it, but even in the huge interior song and
- 46:23Speaker 1: dance numbers, there was all this weird set dressing going
- 46:26Speaker 1: on that really had nothing to do with the singing
- 46:28Speaker 1: and dancing part, but they took that much time to
- 46:32Speaker 1: deck out every room and make sure everything had weird
- 46:35Speaker 1: silver shiny stickers or had some sort of crazy... Like
- 46:38Speaker 1: even like the band at the beginning, the musical instruments
- 46:41Speaker 1: are futuristic musical. They're like shaped funky.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Yeah, they're like made of lucite. Yeah.
- 46:45Speaker 6: Like a lucite keyboard.
- 46:45Speaker 3: The coolest keytar you've ever seen.
- 46:47Speaker 1: That's right. Oh, my God. Or like they go in
- 46:49Speaker 1: the office and the girls are all wearing like little hats,
- 46:52Speaker 1: but they're all clear vinyl hats.
- 46:54Speaker 8: Right.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Somebody had to make those. I mean, nobody wears a
- 46:57Speaker 1: clear vinyl hat.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Because you notice her luggage was clear. Yeah.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Like every piece of any set dressing, anything was just
- 47:04Speaker 1: like a ridiculous amount of work went into making that.
- 47:07Speaker 1: and again most people would just blow this whole thing
- 47:09Speaker 1: off as being silly but i'm just like detail this
- 47:12Speaker 1: is yeah just the attention to detail and this is
- 47:14Speaker 1: amazing and that's almost what makes you need to see
- 47:17Speaker 1: it it's just the the spectacle of this movie.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Is amazing and the like i said before the amount
- 47:24Speaker 3: of like that the scene when they go to his
- 47:28Speaker 3: offices at the very beginning and They just have hundreds
- 47:32Speaker 3: of people in the waiting room. I think it must
- 47:34Speaker 3: be like an airport terminal or something. Yeah. I think
- 47:37Speaker 3: it's where they actually went. But there are hundreds of
- 47:40Speaker 3: people all in full costume, all unique costume. And you
- 47:43Speaker 3: can tell there's a story behind every single person in there.
- 47:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:47Speaker 3: You just want to go, I want to spend more
- 47:49Speaker 3: than one second on that guy. I want to know
- 47:51Speaker 3: what's up with him. Yeah, right. Why is there all
- 47:54Speaker 3: of a sudden a clown?
- 47:55Speaker 1: Yeah, a clown and a magician and some sort of
- 47:59Speaker 1: crazy agent that's representing a ballet group.
- 48:02Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 48:04Speaker 1: It's like this weird conglomeration of characters. And like you said,
- 48:07Speaker 1: they put time into each and every one of those,
- 48:10Speaker 1: and yet they don't even make use of it. It's
- 48:11Speaker 1: like they really did seem like they all were very
- 48:14Speaker 1: individual characters... And some of them don't even have speaking lines.
- 48:17Speaker 1: You just pass by them or they're sitting next to someone.
- 48:20Speaker 3: It's like that scene's almost like the cantina scene in
- 48:24Speaker 3: that this whole world has its own mythology. And I
- 48:29Speaker 3: think that's why in Star Wars that blew people away
- 48:33Speaker 3: because the scale of, oh, my God, what is this world?
- 48:37Speaker 3: And I want to know more about this world. And
- 48:39Speaker 3: that's that same moment, almost... The same distance into the
- 48:43Speaker 3: movie that you see that. It's just like, what is this?
- 48:45Speaker 3: I want to know what's going on here.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Which means we can look forward to action figures of
- 48:49Speaker 1: each and every one of them. You're going to get
- 48:51Speaker 1: the clown.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Don't buy him. I'd buy him. I want the tall
- 48:54Speaker 3: guy that turns into the midget.
- 48:58Speaker 1: That's like a two-pack, actually. It comes with a special
- 49:01Speaker 1: little play set that.
- 49:03Speaker 3: You have to move.
- 49:06Speaker 1: It's got a little lever you pull, and he swings
- 49:08Speaker 1: around the backside, and the other one comes out. Dude,
- 49:11Speaker 1: sign me up for that now.
- 49:13Speaker 12: Oh, man.
- 49:14Speaker 1: So what else? we've got the do we want to
- 49:17Speaker 1: talk about the landlady.
- 49:19Speaker 3: What was that about I just the feeling her up
- 49:24Speaker 3: that's the scariest it shakes you I mean that's the
- 49:27Speaker 3: second time I've seen it I'm still shaking when I see.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Him do that she's just she's so like cliche in
- 49:34Speaker 1: this movie like in a movie that shouldn't have these
- 49:37Speaker 1: cliche characters like she could have come out of like
- 49:40Speaker 1: an actual movie from the 70s that was a complete
- 49:42Speaker 1: and straight movie about some guy living in her, you know,
- 49:45Speaker 1: renting a room in her house.
- 49:46Speaker 3: And she's got to give him shit over it.
- 49:47Speaker 1: She plays it exactly the same, only it's set in
- 49:51Speaker 1: the future.
- 49:51Speaker 7: Yes.
- 49:52Speaker 1: I mean, it's so weird. She was Miriam... Margulies, I guess,
- 49:58Speaker 1: who actually, again, for references.
- 50:00Speaker 3: She's been a witch in some.
- 50:01Speaker 1: She's been in a lot of stuff, but for references
- 50:03Speaker 1: that dorks now will know her, she's one of the
- 50:05Speaker 1: professor teacher witches in Harry the Potter.
- 50:09Speaker 3: She's the... Harry Potter. She's the mandragora on Harry the Potter.
- 50:13Speaker 3: That's a gardening.
- 50:14Speaker 1: It's a special gardening show that comes on late at night.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Don't you worry. That's why I remember her from.
- 50:20Speaker 6: Well, see, I think maybe my take on that was,
- 50:22Speaker 6: you know, like a.
- 50:24Speaker 7: almost like an A lot of movies about controlled society,
- 50:28Speaker 7: the poorest people who aren't consumers, who are below the
- 50:33Speaker 7: level to be able to.
- 50:35Speaker 6: Buy, are untouched by that. They're not affected by.
- 50:41Speaker 7: The fancy stickers and the music and stuff.
- 50:44Speaker 3: The streets she lived on could have been straight out
- 50:47Speaker 3: of 1979. That's what I was going to say.
- 50:49Speaker 1: That whole part of town looked the same. It didn't
- 50:52Speaker 1: get swept up in the futuristic society because they were poor.
- 50:55Speaker 1: So they just left them to be, you know, the
- 50:57Speaker 1: slums that they always were.
- 50:59Speaker 3: And she didn't have a television. She's got to put
- 51:02Speaker 3: that shit on your face. Yeah.
- 51:04Speaker 7: And I think that was very intentional. Of course it
- 51:07Speaker 7: was intentional, but I think, you know, like... most things
- 51:10Speaker 7: in this movie on a deeper level she was just
- 51:13Speaker 7: untouched by that People of a lower class who aren't
- 51:16Speaker 7: able to be consumers are usually not affected by it.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it was one of the... I was thinking that
- 51:21Speaker 1: it's sort of talking about the evils of excess and
- 51:25Speaker 1: the rich and the powerful and what they all do,
- 51:29Speaker 1: but it doesn't tie into the rest of society. It
- 51:32Speaker 1: isn't like calling out the entire future society. It's only
- 51:36Speaker 1: the rich people. It's only the ones that are powerful
- 51:38Speaker 1: and that are the influential people Or the ones that
- 51:41Speaker 1: it's calling out as the evil ones, which, I guess, coincidentally,
- 51:44Speaker 1: are the ones that have all the money.
- 51:45Speaker 7: Her house reminded me of Charlie's house and Willy Wonka.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Kind of.
- 51:50Speaker 1: It's a little bigger, I think.
- 51:52Speaker 3: And he didn't have, like, four people in the same bed.
- 51:56Speaker 6: Unfortunately.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Unfortunately.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Because you wanted to feel her up, too.
- 52:00Speaker 3: I mean, he gets in there.
- 52:02Speaker 1: He doesn't let go.
- 52:03Speaker 3: That's the thing. He gets in there and is like.
- 52:07Speaker 3: You know he obviously i think the actor was enjoying.
- 52:10Speaker 1: I guess so because yeah you've got this what 25
- 52:13Speaker 1: year old main lead character who's involved with our other
- 52:17Speaker 1: lead who is renting a room from this lady and
- 52:20Speaker 1: frumpy frumpy what is she mid 60s or something and
- 52:25Speaker 1: he comes up behind her and he grabs a hold
- 52:29Speaker 1: and He gets two handfuls, and yeah, we're all kind
- 52:34Speaker 1: of uncomfortable at that point.
- 52:35Speaker 3: Multiple squeezes.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's not like it's a quick cop. Yeah,
- 52:40Speaker 1: he's honking at that point.
- 52:41Speaker 3: And she doesn't get upset. No, she doesn't.
- 52:45Speaker 1: She's been yelling at him like their entire relationship of
- 52:47Speaker 1: get up and pay me the rent. But she's okay
- 52:50Speaker 1: with him copying a few.
- 52:52Speaker 6: She didn't look like she got a lot of action.
- 52:54Speaker 3: She's straight up in his room.
- 52:56Speaker 1: That's true. She's constantly in his room. Yeah.
- 52:59Speaker 3: She doesn't charge him ever again after that. And she
- 53:02Speaker 3: feeds him in bed. So I think she really liked it.
- 53:05Speaker 7: I think this guy was just a fucking smart ass player.
- 53:08Speaker 9: That's all.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:10Speaker 3: If I was a single dude and I can't pay
- 53:13Speaker 3: my rent, I'm just going to start feeling my lady up.
- 53:16Speaker 1: That's all it takes.
- 53:16Speaker 6: What if it's a dude?
- 53:18Speaker 3: Either way. Whatever it takes.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Either way. You don't want to pay no rent.
- 53:22Speaker 3: You don't want to pay no rent.
- 53:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 53:26Speaker 6: I'm going to check now.
- 53:26Speaker 3: No, I'm not.
- 53:30Speaker 1: We can do the sexual fantasy dance number.
- 53:35Speaker 6: We can do that.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Thing is i don't think we could do that that
- 53:39Speaker 1: was very well choreographed we would all injure ourselves yeah
- 53:44Speaker 1: um like that no i i don't i don't I
- 53:47Speaker 1: don't think that's even a good idea. Some of the
- 53:49Speaker 1: times that some of the things they were doing, but yeah,
- 53:52Speaker 1: it's basically, you've got like what eight or 10 people
- 53:54Speaker 1: in a room full of beds doing these choreographed gymnastic
- 53:59Speaker 1: simulated sex acts.
- 54:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Right.
- 54:01Speaker 3: And the dudes have on gold speedos, speedos, Rocky gold
- 54:07Speaker 3: speedos basically.
- 54:08Speaker 1: And yeah.
- 54:10Speaker 3: And the women, the women have on nineties and they'll ever,
- 54:13Speaker 3: you know, Which, not that I need to see anything,
- 54:15Speaker 3: but you'd expect at that point for it to just
- 54:17Speaker 3: be all out.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Yeah, for this level that the movie operates at, it's
- 54:21Speaker 1: funny that there's really no nudity at all. There's a
- 54:24Speaker 1: lot of scantily clad, mostly men, but... but you don't
- 54:28Speaker 1: get a whole lot of nudity, which you would think
- 54:31Speaker 1: another thing that they would cash in on, I guess.
- 54:33Speaker 1: But no, they, they kind of steer clear of that.
- 54:35Speaker 3: I'm glad it wasn't. It would have been, it would have.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Been even more creepy. Yeah. But, um, well, creepy enough,
- 54:41Speaker 1: as much as the song got better up to that point,
- 54:43Speaker 1: when you hit the coming for you song, it all
- 54:46Speaker 1: goes right back down.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Wow.
- 54:47Speaker 3: It's pretty explicit.
- 54:50Speaker 1: It's like, and, and, Unsubtle. There's no untundrum there. It's
- 54:57Speaker 1: just blatantly spelling it out for you. She says, I'll
- 54:59Speaker 1: take every inch of your love. Drain you every drop.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Of your love. Drain you every drop of your love.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not really a... veiled in any way, shape,
- 55:10Speaker 1: or form.
- 55:10Speaker 3: It's pretty obvious what's going on here. It's almost like
- 55:12Speaker 3: a 12-year-old boy.
- 55:13Speaker 1: It really is.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Good innuendo.
- 55:17Speaker 1: It's just blatant. It kind of.
- 55:19Speaker 6: Reminds me of the Touch-a-Touch-a-Touch-me song.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Kind of, only that was just sort of... cutesy that's
- 55:27Speaker 1: a lot more catchy that was just yeah it was
- 55:29Speaker 1: catchy and that one was just sort of cute really
- 55:31Speaker 1: it was just like that was really all she was
- 55:32Speaker 1: saying was going on the innuendo was all in the
- 55:35Speaker 1: other lines and then what people are screaming out usually
- 55:38Speaker 1: but but really i mean if you listen to what
- 55:40Speaker 1: she says in that song it's a pretty innocent song
- 55:42Speaker 1: especially compared to this song.
- 55:44Speaker 7: You know i'm glad i mentioned that song because that's
- 55:46Speaker 7: one of my favorite karaoke songs and last time i've
- 55:48Speaker 7: been at a karaoke bar i've like god what am
- 55:51Speaker 7: i gonna sing i can't think of anything and i've
- 55:53Speaker 7: I fucking forgot.
- 55:54Speaker 6: That's one of my favorite ones.
- 55:55Speaker 3: Watch out, Akiko. She's on the ground.
- 55:58Speaker 6: Yeah, it's on.
- 55:59Speaker 3: We're doing it.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Yeah, this one is just, yeah, it's so over the top.
- 56:03Speaker 1: And when you couple that, pun intended, with the synchronized
- 56:08Speaker 1: screwing that's going on, because it really becomes that by
- 56:11Speaker 1: the end of it.
- 56:12Speaker 3: Hormones.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's everybody doing the same motions at the same time.
- 56:17Speaker 1: And again, it gets pretty acrobatic at moments. And I'm
- 56:20Speaker 1: just like, this is a lot to deal with.
- 56:23Speaker 3: You know, after the funny thing is, is up until
- 56:26Speaker 3: that point, she's she's right there with it. She's just
- 56:29Speaker 3: as bad as all of them are. Yeah. The good
- 56:32Speaker 3: guy sleeps with her. And she completely changes her tune.
- 56:36Speaker 3: She's like, he's in love with you. And then she
- 56:38Speaker 3: becomes a good person.
- 56:39Speaker 1: She really does.
- 56:40Speaker 3: Because she gets fucked by him. Isn't that what it takes?
- 56:43Speaker 3: It's really that instant, from that instant on, she's good again.
- 56:47Speaker 3: So he changes.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Isn't that what they're always telling you? You just need
- 56:49Speaker 1: to find yourself a good woman.
- 56:51Speaker 3: I guess so.
- 56:52Speaker 1: Good man. Good man. That's what does it, according to this.
- 56:55Speaker 3: Fuck her straight, I guess. Fuck her straight.
- 56:56Speaker 1: Fuck her straight.
- 56:58Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 57:01Speaker 6: That was the theme of this movie. That's the final
- 57:03Speaker 6: theme of this movie.
- 57:04Speaker 3: Get fucked straight. You can't smoke pot. You have to
- 57:12Speaker 3: smoke pot, actually. You don't want to do speed or...
- 57:16Speaker 3: mushrooms or anything like that. But, Pod, you're cool.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Oh, sure. Well, once again, we're moving into the hippie lifestyle.
- 57:23Speaker 3: Oh, okay. Are we not ready? I'm sorry.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Well, either way, we'll get to that. I was just
- 57:27Speaker 1: trying to think of any other... I did want to
- 57:29Speaker 1: address the thugs. The right-hand men.
- 57:33Speaker 7: Oh.
- 57:33Speaker 1: Bulldog? Bulldog, and then.
- 57:36Speaker 3: Which I've seen him in a few other.
- 57:37Speaker 7: Things, too.
- 57:37Speaker 3: He is in a lot of stuff.
- 57:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I was trying to figure out who he was.
- 57:40Speaker 3: But they've got, like, sharpened pencil teeth?
- 57:42Speaker 1: For God's sake, his name is Derek Deadman.
- 57:44Speaker 3: In real life? Yeah, in real life, that's his name.
- 57:47Speaker 3: That's badass.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Yeah, how much... And he looks like he could be
- 57:51Speaker 1: that badass. He really is hardcore. He's in Robin Hood
- 57:58Speaker 1: Prince of Thieves. Benny Hill Show. See, there you go.
- 58:02Speaker 1: I don't know, but I have seen him in a
- 58:04Speaker 1: ton of stuff. He's in Brazil. European Vacation.
- 58:10Speaker 3: We're in European Vacation. He's the taxi driver. Yeah, I
- 58:15Speaker 3: wouldn't have known that. No, me neither.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Never Say Never Again. Which I'm assuming is probably some
- 58:20Speaker 1: thug there, too.
- 58:21Speaker 3: Right. He plays a thug very well. He does.
- 58:25Speaker 1: But, yeah, Roger was talking about their teeth, and then
- 58:29Speaker 1: as the little thing unfolds, because at first they're just
- 58:31Speaker 1: like your strong men that are there to be the
- 58:34Speaker 1: bouncers of his life, I guess. But then as the
- 58:37Speaker 1: rest of the little plot line unfolds, I guess they're
- 58:41Speaker 1: just demons. They're like his demon protection because we've got,
- 58:45Speaker 1: and this is one, it's like it is funny that
- 58:47Speaker 1: they would do those little flashes of them in their
- 58:49Speaker 1: normal outfits, and then they would go to the, you know,
- 58:52Speaker 1: these subtext outfits oh and he would he would yeah
- 58:56Speaker 1: he was dressed in the the dracula costume with the
- 58:58Speaker 1: horn so he was satan but if you notice the
- 59:01Speaker 1: uh the other guy was dressed is a snake which
- 59:05Speaker 1: is again kind of clever because they never really go
- 59:08Speaker 1: out of their way to show you that they quick
- 59:10Speaker 1: flashes of him in that outfit. And even if you
- 59:13Speaker 1: watch at the end when he's got that really elaborate
- 59:15Speaker 1: makeup on, it's almost like this reptilian pattern.
- 59:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 59:19Speaker 1: So, yeah, it's like they do work that stuff in
- 59:21Speaker 1: along the way. It's kind of clever the way that
- 59:24Speaker 1: they do. And then you've got his two little, you know,
- 59:26Speaker 1: strongmen there that are basically demons, more or less. I mean,
- 59:30Speaker 1: why else would they have... Well, just in general, in
- 59:32Speaker 1: the real world, why would they have these giant, you know,
- 59:34Speaker 1: canine teeth underbites going on? And they both have it
- 59:37Speaker 1: as though they're some sort of other creatures or something. So, yeah,
- 59:42Speaker 1: it's just... I thought that was kind of cool that
- 59:43Speaker 1: they worked that little... flashes of once again working on
- 59:46Speaker 1: the biblical notion that they're going with here on that
- 59:50Speaker 1: i do like that they they also stuck with i
- 59:53Speaker 1: mean the storyline sticks pretty close to that tale because
- 59:56Speaker 1: you bring them both in there and who's the one
- 59:58Speaker 1: that's tempted it's eve who's the one that goes along
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: with it and is you know going right along with
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: satan's little plan and he's fighting it and he doesn't
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: want to do it so they they turn that into
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: the whole plot line but i'm just like yeah they
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: they didn't vary it much it's it's pretty much exactly
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: how the old story goes oh sure and i don't
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: know i guess uh if nothing else we've gone through
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: most of the other cast um once again still catherine's
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: awesome I mean, she's so.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Likable in this.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: How can you have an issue? Even in a movie
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: as silly as this is, she comes off looking pretty good.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: In her scene where it's supposed to be her, the
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: speed song, when she was dancing, I don't know if
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: it was the shoes or the outfit, but she just
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: looked physically uncomfortable. Yeah, kind of. I don't know if
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: that was supposed to be what the character was doing,
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: but she was almost pained in her motions. Like... every
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: step that she took or something, almost like, Either she
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: was acting to make it that way or whatever they
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: put her in was just really uncomfortable.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: Wasn't she a dancer?
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: She was a dancer.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: So, I mean, she really shouldn't have had problems with
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: the maneuvers. I mean, she, I think, started off ballet
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: and everything. So, I mean, she really was schooled in
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: that type of thing. So, yeah.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: I think it was the... I mean, I think it
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: was just... Like I said, she looked physically in pain.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Like something she was doing, like probably the shoes, those
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: boots that were way too tall.
- 1:01:21Speaker 7: So.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: And, yeah, I think, if I remember correctly, she does
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: sort of build them out, her character. So I guess
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: we were like, oh, wow, listen to her singing voice.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that's not her voice.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: Oh, really? Yeah.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I was trying to look and see.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: Voice over.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Yeah, they brought in Mary Hyland, who did the character, yeah,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: did the voices for the singing for Bebe. But then
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: they said she... She's been on a variety of albums
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: as a backup singer and has been doing children's sing-along albums.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: She did have a strong voice, though, so it does
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: make Catherine look good.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: I just assumed it was her. I thought, if you're
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: going to hire somebody for a musical, you're really unknown.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: I kind of did, too.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: Make sure she could sing.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: I am sure she has a lovely singing voice, otherwise.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: But for some reason, they went with this girl. Who knows?
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: But I did almost want to call her out for
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: the hair crimping.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: I loved it. I like the look.
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: I still own a crimper, Judge.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: See, that's what I was going to say. This was
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: the 80s, so I mean, you know, I can't call
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: it out. My sister had a crimper at that point, too.
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: It's 2010, and I still own a crimper.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: That's just because you're weird. We can't call her out
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: for her hair color, though, because one of the crew
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: usually has hair very similar, actually.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: So maybe she was inspired by it.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: She never claimed to have seen this movie but she's
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: just she's yeah i'm.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: Sure she would have if we had.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Said i love that yeah she probably would she'd be
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: like i like that.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Outfit i've got some questions when i get back.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I do like the silver outfit though that's that nice
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: little uh high collar but hot pants album that's awesome
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: the socks from the exercise oh yeah the socks are
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: what made it the right The rest.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: Of your sock fetish. I don't even understand.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: It wasn't.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: No, it's something about because it was almost like at
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: first I looked, I was like, oh, we're bringing in
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: the leg warmer phase. But I was like, no, they're
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: just huge socks. They were just giant striped socks. And
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: for some reason, that was funny. And that's what made
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: the outfit.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: I didn't.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't really take it that way. I just
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: thought it was funny that they were just giant socks.
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: You know, I'm going to I'm going to get some
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: socks like that and go to my gym. Because there's
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: this guy there who wears a stripy tank top, and
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: he's built really like a big muscle man from 1925.
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: And he's covered in sailor tattoos, and he has this
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: big bushy beard. And I'm just like, I want to
- 1:03:42Speaker 7: know that guy. So I'm going to work up next
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: to him.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: You probably like these socks. That or maybe he wouldn't
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: be interested in you regardless.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: I'm not sure which direction he's going.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: He seems very heterosexual.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Okay, it could be either way at that point. Based
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: on the description, he could go either direction.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: He might be heterosexual for guys.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Anyway, I'm sure regardless, all you need are those socks.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: That'll win him over.
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: You have a stripy tank top, I have stripy socks.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: We have so much in common.
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: We have something in common.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: Let's make some lines. Let's make some children. Anyway.
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: That's a good way to woo a man.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: He won't go running at all. So, yeah. Okay, let's
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: go ahead and get into the ending now. We enter
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: into the hippie world. So let's start with the hippies
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: and then we'll move on. We do, I mean, we
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: get into a very, again, there's very little subtle in
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: this movie, but the hippies versus technology.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Message that's thrown out there that it's it's very you
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: know kind of hitting you over the head with the
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: fact that you know the people in the city the
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: people that live these excessive lifestyle are are evil and
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: wrong and the the only people that are good are
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: us that are living in this cave and hanging out
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: from the 60s yeah hanging out in the park and
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: uh making kids i guess they didn't really do anything
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: else but smoke weed and start campfires.
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Completely a white male and female have a completely black child.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: I was wondering about that. It's strange. I don't know
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: what they're trying to say, but I like that they're
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: just fucking it up.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: That it's universal.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: I will give them that, too.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: I was noticing how balanced they really did work a
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: lot of African-American. They don't really get a lot of others.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: You don't get a lot of Asian characters or anybody else,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: but you get a good mixture of black and white
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: in all these song and dance numbers.
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: See, for a second I thought it was kind of
- 1:05:41Speaker 7: racist because he was singing I'm a Master song and
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: then there's three black people in the chorus.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: I'm just like, that's racist. I think that was intentional.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, well, but, I mean, he's Satan.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: He's basically Satan.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, once you're that evil, racism is really
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: pretty low on your totem pole there.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: You know, to throw on top of that, that he
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: can flawlessly speak every language, that is very demon-like. Yeah.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: they did a good job with that.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: And that our future society doesn't have one language that
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: everybody is still like, they, they go to that thing
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: at the beginning and there's all these different flags of
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: all these different countries. And we never really get where
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: like America fits into it. Like they bring them up
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: a couple of times, but we never really realized that
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: like the, the world power situation, but it seems like
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: he's in control of everything, at least within this country.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: So we're assuming the world over.
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: I just realized that, that this isn't, This movie wasn't
- 1:06:39Speaker 7: even a commentary on how evil the world is, but
- 1:06:42Speaker 7: how evil America is.
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: Because these two, the main character, the guy and the girl,
- 1:06:48Speaker 7: they were from Moose Jaw, Canada.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: Canada, this perfect, happy, utopian society. They were sucked up
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: into the evil world of where?
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: America.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: That's kind of funny.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: I kind of feel that way about Canada, though. I mean,
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: I've never been there, but I know someone from there.
- 1:07:03Speaker 7: I actually used to live with a Canadian girl for
- 1:07:07Speaker 7: like five minutes. She was originally from Nova Scotia, but
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: she'd talk about Canada, and I'm always like, Canada sounds
- 1:07:17Speaker 7: like a magical place.
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: Sparkling waters and unicorns and shit.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: If there are any unicorns, they're in British Columbia, I think.
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: I do believe that.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Well, there could be something to... Again, I don't want
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: to make some sort of grand speculation here, but our
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: director is from Israel. And he actually was pretty successful.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: We can go into him for a minute. He was
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: pretty successful in the 60s and 70s making movies in
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: his country. So he actually did... trying to think uh
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: there's like casblan which is like a a large musical
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: about rival jewish sex and a military docudrama that's like
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: operation thunderbolt so he's doing all these like serious movies
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: when he's over there so i could see him having
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: that sort of uh like take on stuff and and
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: maybe some sort of like damning view of the american
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: way of life But then, okay, let's skip forward a
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: few years to what he ends up making.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: He directed episodes of Roseanne.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: That's a fine American show. Because then, yeah, I mean,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: he starts off making that stuff, and then he, as
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: he gets to America, he starts off making this kind
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: of crazy stuff here. But then his most successful period
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: is kind of right after this, in the 80s, and
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: he starts making things like, well, he followed up the
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: Apple with Enter the Ninja.
- 1:08:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: That is a great movie.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: That's an awesome movie. Followed up two movies later by
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: The Delta Force.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: Really?
- 1:08:49Speaker 8: The Delta Force?
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: By Over the Top. So, I mean, he is knee-deep
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: in Americana at this point.
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: Yeah, wow.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: And those are like, yay, pro-America kind of bullshit movies.
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: You can save your child with your arm wrestling.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I'm like, it's weird that it doesn't fit anything else
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: up until that point. It doesn't even fit the messages
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: going on in this movie.
- 1:09:11Speaker 9: No.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: Because then after that.
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: It's almost like he succumbs to that.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: That's funny.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: Maybe he really.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: God, Over the Top was so fucking rad.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: He became.
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: I want to watch that now.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: That was bad.
- 1:09:22Speaker 7: When I was like 13, that was my boyfriend at
- 1:09:25Speaker 7: the time's favorite movie.
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: He'd make me come over and watch it all the time.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: Turn your head around backwards.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: Maybe he really was like overcome by the evils of
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: America because as it goes on, he gets more into
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: producing and his producing credits are things like Death Wish 2.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: and uh the seven magnificent gladiators and uh and uh
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: lady redneck lady chatterly's lover executive producer on that so
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: i mean he straight to show time he completely succumbs
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: to the evils of this country if ever there were
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: some yeah So yeah, I thought that was kind of interesting.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: Ooh, Breaking. He's executive producer on Breaking. No way.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: And Making the Grade. Oh man, see, this guy knows
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: quality film right here.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: We need to do a film study of his.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: I think so.
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: I think we're watching over the top. I'm going to
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: nominate him. Yeah, I'm down.
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: That'll bring back so much memories for me.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Missing in Action 2, the beginning. He's producer on that.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: So I mean, once again, it's weird how Oh, Electric Boogaloo.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: Thank God.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: I was hoping he still had something to do with that.
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: He did have something to do with Electric Boogaloo.
- 1:10:33Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: He's producer on Electric Boogaloo and on the first Missing
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: in Action 2. So it is weird. I mean, all
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: the Exterminator 2 and Ninja 3. Exterminator 2, Roger.
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: Exterminator 2. He's executive producer on that. That movie's excellent.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: So it's funny how much he succumbs to the decadence
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: of what is the bullshit of Americana.
- 1:10:55Speaker 7: Oh, man.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: That's so awesome. He said, fuck it, I'm going balls
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: deep into this. I think he did, actually.
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: Balls deep.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: Probably an exact quote.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I should not have said that. Only with
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: an Israeli accent.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: And he screamed it as he said it.
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: Balls deep.
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: So, yeah, that is a very interesting spin on the
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: hippie way of life that is almost the savior of
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: this society. So, yeah, where... Let me ask you this.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: Did the hippie guy, the leader of the pack, did
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: he go out at the end? I know we haven't
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: really talked about the end.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I think... Let me see if that is the same.
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: Did he walk out? He walked off camera. But he
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: didn't go out the way that everybody else went, did he?
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: no because see i'm thinking his character is moses that's
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: yeah i'm thinking his character is he he he can
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: he can get them ready to go he can bring
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: them to the promised land but he can't actually go.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: Or both because he is listed as hippie leader and
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: mr tops.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: And mr tops i thought it was the.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Same yeah i kind of thought it was but i
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: couldn't it's a pretty drastic change when he comes back
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: at the very end and if.
- 1:12:11Speaker 11: Anybody wants to know who this guy is think of
- 1:12:13Speaker 11: lethal weapon 2 and diplomatic immunity it's that guy.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: That's who this guy is.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Oh, he has been in a lot of different movies
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: over the years. He's a well-established actor. He is Joss Ackland.
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: Thespian!
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Joss Ackland.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: So, yeah, he's our hippie leader, and he takes him
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: down to the cave, and we do have, I don't know,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: like all these weird.
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: Was there a time leap?
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: I mean, were they there a year? It was a
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: little over a year is what he said, but somehow
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: they have a three-year-old child. That kid is way bigger
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: than a one-year-old.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 1:12:48Speaker 7: I don't think that these people actually make children so
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: much as steal them from other people.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Could be, but he said your child as though it
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: were his actual DNA-based child.
- 1:12:59Speaker 7: Maybe it's just one of those weird hippie communities where
- 1:13:01Speaker 7: this child belongs to everybody.
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: Everybody.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Your child. It's all our child.
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: All our children.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: I love how they're, they're passing around joint in like,
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: like here, take the kid and I'm going to pass
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: you this joint and it's like blowing in his face.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: That's awesome. That's, that's hippie parenting.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Oh man. So yeah, we have the cave people that
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: don't like television and.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: Um, And they're holdovers from the 60s. Yeah.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: So, I mean, it really is that excess versus minimalism.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: And they have nothing.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: I mean, they have coffee. Right.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Which is good to know there's still coffee in the
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: hippie future. But that's pretty much all they have. Campfires
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: and coffee.
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: But it's organic.
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure.
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: Fair trade coffee.
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: And again, that cave smelled like BO and patchouli. You
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: know it did.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: That's why she came in. She was like, oh, do
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: I have to stay here?
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: Fine my stupid because it shows more patchouli on you
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: can you don't smell the bo anymore you don't even.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Have it anymore if you put enough on yeah oh
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: so then all right let's cross over into the the
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: final act here the uh the last testament if you
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: will Bim.
- 1:14:10Speaker 11: Whatever his name, comes to reclaim his property, which is
- 1:14:13Speaker 11: the girl that escaped.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: She signed a contract.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: She signed a contract. He's here to make good and
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: to collect. They come out. They're like, yes, baby, whatever.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: Screw you, man.
- 1:14:24Speaker 11: I think the hippie leader walks off of the screen
- 1:14:29Speaker 11: because he's not there when the solid gold Rolls Royce
- 1:14:35Speaker 11: comes out of the sky.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Yes, it does. Flying out of the sky.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: Slowly, just sort of cruising. Just kind of hovering. Cruise control,
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: I'd like to think that God drives a solid gold
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: Rolls Royce.
- 1:14:48Speaker 11: When out of the Rolls Royce comes the hippie dude,
- 1:14:51Speaker 11: but just dressed in white now.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: He's got fancy hair now. He doesn't look like a
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: guy that lives under a bridge like he is in
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: the movie.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: And is basically kind of like, these are my people.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: They're coming with me. And he tells Ben... He's like, oh,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: you're going to take them? He's like, yeah. Yeah, he's like,
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: I'm going to take them. You can't, you know.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: But she has a contract. He's like, I don't care
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: about that.
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: He's like, so?
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: He's like, and?
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Did you not see me come up in a flying car, dude?
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: And they're going to another world where he doesn't have Satan.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: Yeah, he says he's going to try it without you
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: speaking to Bim.
- 1:15:25Speaker 11: He's like, no, you can't have a world without me
- 1:15:29Speaker 11: is what Bim says.
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: Which I agree with, you know. And he says, let's
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: give it a try. Let's give it a try. And
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: he doesn't know where he's going yet. Which I think
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: is even better. It's like, you know what?
- 1:15:41Speaker 11: We're going and we really don't know where we're going.
- 1:15:43Speaker 11: And this whole commune begins to walk into the sky.
- 1:15:45Speaker 11: And I didn't know if they were all going to
- 1:15:46Speaker 11: pile into.
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: The clown car.
- 1:15:48Speaker 11: But I think they all just walk with God's clown car.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: Alongside of the clown car. I wanted to see that.
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: Someday we will all.
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: Been like Volkswagen buses or something?
- 1:16:01Speaker 9: Probably.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: That probably would have been better.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Someday we will all get in God's clown car.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: The most expensive vehicle, you know, anti-consumer, but the most
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: expensive vehicle in the world.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Yeah. What does God drive? A luxury sedan.
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: So weird. So weird. God. So bizarre. Oh man.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: So yeah, it is one of those like It does
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: pose that big question of can you have a world
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: without evil? Like, can you have good without evil?
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: No.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Because this is a very, like, it finishes the story
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: with we've had Satan here the whole time, and in
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: the end, God comes along. You can. So, yeah, it
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: is a weird, like, how can you have this world
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: with no balance to it that is nothing but good? Unless,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: I guess, that hippie world was supposed to be the
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: little utopia down there, and had the evil not come,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: they would have been happy their whole lives down there, but.
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: But it doesn't even, the thing about the movie, it
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: doesn't even give you a hint that that's going to happen.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: Not just out of the blue.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: I mean, you definitely get the Satan reference and the
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Adam and Eve thing.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: But it doesn't go straight up to like.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: But you don't see any sort of.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: manifestation kind of.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Or just any like even a mention of god along
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: the way and maybe that too is its comment maybe
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: that that that civilization has no god like it is
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: gone at that it's on vacation he just has no
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: place in that society like they're all rich and they're
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: doing drugs and they're having sex and they don't really
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: speak of god so we never hear of god in
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: in that civilization.
- 1:17:31Speaker 7: You know, my mom once dated a guy who drove
- 1:17:33Speaker 7: a Rolls Royce, and he took us to Florida in it.
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: So maybe God is that dude.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Maybe God lives in Florida. Maybe God retired to Florida.
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: I hope not. I think he punched her in that interview.
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: Yeah, that was. That's not my God. I'm sorry.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: My God doesn't punch chicks.
- 1:17:51Speaker 6: Maybe she deserved it.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: Just kidding.
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: If she ever starts listening to this, hopefully it's not
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: that episode.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Bitch was mouthing off. God laid into it.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: God bitch slapped my mom. Bitch deserved it.
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: This is why I don't tell my mom what the
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: website address.
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: Is for the show.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: We're all joking, mind you.
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: Sorry, no thanks.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: None of that is actually cool.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Oh, man. But that was my thing. In the end,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: when they all leave... Is it just me, or is
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: that the rapture?
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess. That is all.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: The good people of the earth are being collected, and
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: God comes to take them away, and the leftover evil
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: people stay behind and suffer on this hell that is earth.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Absolutely. God, if I see a Rolls Royce flying out
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: of the sky, I am going to start praying immediately.
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Forgive me.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I totally loved your movie.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: I totally loved your movie. Wow. So weird. So weird.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: It is. Yeah. Oh, man. Now, picture that. I was
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: already tired the first time I saw this. Two o'clock
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: in the morning, this is on. I'm like, what the
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: fuck just happened?
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: Now go to sleep. Deal with that.
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: Yep. Oh, man.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: I don't know. It was kind of interesting because it
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: really is like the rapture. So it's like they work in, again,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: this very biblical idea of... Some religion, many religions, actually,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: they all sort of have this version of what happens.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: But it is funny that it's not like he destroyed
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: the world. He just took the good people away and
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: the rest are left to live in their little decadent,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: you know, hell, basically.
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: In his golden chariot.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: In his, again, God drives a luxury sedan.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Of course.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: I don't know, that was the.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: That could drive like a 1994 Toyota Celica.
- 1:19:50Speaker 9: I mean.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: An 86 Datsun.
- 1:19:54Speaker 7: Well, I guess in 1994, he may have driven a
- 1:19:56Speaker 7: 1994 Toyota Celica.
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: 76 Datsun, actually. I think it changed at that point.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: It went much further past that. Into the Nissan era.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: So, let's... I don't know. I was like, in the beginning,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: I'm like, so your only real message here is that
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: Record producers are the devil. TV is bad. TV is bad,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: and only hippies will be saved.
- 1:20:20Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: That's kind of, you know, there are big sweeping messages here,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: and I don't know how I feel about some of them.
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: So weird.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm screwed. I know that.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, basically.
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: Because I'm not going out smoking anything, so guess what?
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: Yeah. And we're making jokes about smacking people's mamas. We're
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: all going to hell.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: Or staying here in hell, as the case may be.
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: Oh, man. Oh, man.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: So I don't know. My only take in the end
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: was looking at it from, from Catherine's perspective. Can you
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: imagine if this was your first movie?
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: I give you credit for going on and having a
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: whole career because if you're, you know, a young girl, yeah, you've,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: you've just been exposed to like, you know, hardcore dancing
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: and practicing your whole life. And you, you cross over
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: into this world and you're like, all right, I'm going
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: to be in a movie. And it's this, it's like,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: scenes of dance numbers in hell with like people dressed
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: up in like pig makeup and a guy with two
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: faces smashed into one head and.
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Napoleon exactly and Napoleon's in hell and Napoleon.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: In hell so yeah can you imagine being swept up
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: in that all of a sudden.
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: Or maybe she's been chasing that ever since, trying to
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: get back to her first experience. Maybe. I bet it
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: was a good time. I bet it was a blast. Oh, yeah.
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: If you're drinking out of triangle-shaped glasses, you know you're
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: having a good time.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: Those are BM glasses.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: Prismatic stickers on your forehead or face or wherever.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Wherever you are.
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: I love how the clean-cut girl... From Canada. He says, oh, no,
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: this pill won't hurt you. Like, doesn't even flinch. He's like,
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: it won't hurt you. It just takes it right away.
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: I don't think she's that naive.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Like, she didn't even know what it was to be
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: afraid of it, basically.
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: We were all cheering for the date rapes. And we were.
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: Like, date rape, date rape, date rape.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: I don't know if we were cheering for it.
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: I was.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Maybe that was just you.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we were like, go, go, go. That was just
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: the couch that was cheering.
- 1:22:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I guess.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: Right. I was on the other shoulder going, don't do it.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: Be a good girl. We were sitting.
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: On the couch saying, oh, shit, bitch done got roof.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: I think I said that. You were on Satan's couch.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: I was over in the angelic chair going, no, drugs
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: are bad.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: I'm the girl.
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: How am I the one that's all like, ha-ha, punch
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: moms in faces.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: And date rape?
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Why?
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: Why am I the one that's not more sensitive and
- 1:22:43Speaker 7: offended by these subjects?
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: You're not taking up for your gender at all. You're
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: selling them down the road.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: To hell. I'm so.
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: Insensitive.
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: Marlena loves misogyny. I do.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: Seems to be based on these shows anyway. So, yeah.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: Where do we wrap up?
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: I mean, you fly off that golden rule. I guess so.
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: They were sitting around like, how are we going to
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: end this bitch? I don't know.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: What do we do now? Car flies?
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: That's about it.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: Once again, one day we will all get into God's
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: clown car.
- 1:23:27Speaker 11: I'd also suggest that if you like musicals and haven't
- 1:23:30Speaker 11: heard of it, you need a fucking weird-ass movie to
- 1:23:33Speaker 11: satiate your bizarre tastes for.
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: Or if you're tripping on acid.
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: Or if you're on acid.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: I think this will blow your mind if you're on
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: any sort of drugs.
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: If you're on mushrooms, prepare to just laugh from the
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: beginning and not be able to stop until the end.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: Well, we kind of did that anyway, actually.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: You don't need drugs for this movie to fuck you up.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: Yeah, really.
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: This is like its own drug trip.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: You don't need any drugs. And that's sort of a
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: selling point, really. Once again, even if you're not into
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: some of the stuff we've presented here, the spectacle of
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: this movie is so impressive that.
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: I think you need to see it.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: If you're a movie fan on the level of the
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: people who make this show or listen to this show,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: I would say you probably need to see this for
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: the sake of going... oh yeah i saw that yeah
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: yeah and then go and find it because actually i
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: believe it's on dvd i've seen it was out on
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: vhs and then i've seen uh online that there are
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: copies of it on dvd so you can buy a
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: copy of it and then show your friends and make
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: them experience it with you because i think it needs
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: to be experienced definitely most definitely so anything else to
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: round out the uh The apple talk.
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: Take another bite of our caramel apple here.
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: Mine's been gone for like an hour.
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: I just brushed my teeth. I'm still working. There's another
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: one here if you want, though. All right.
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: So with that, we will take a break and be
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: back with the rest of the show.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: Cry for me.
- 1:25:11Speaker 13: Let the heavens rain down with your tears.
- 1:25:16Speaker 10: Where has all the pity gone?
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: I stand alone.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: I stand alone.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: Probably.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: Now, before the next show starts, let's enjoy an intermission.
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: What are the odds on Lincoln Hawks? Twenty to one pounds.
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: Real long shot. Hawks, let's go. The world meets nobody halfway.
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: Remember that.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: I don't have a father, sir.
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: The world has always bet against Lincoln Hawks.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: This guy's nothing.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: Why'd you leave us?
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: It won't happen again.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: I want my grandson found.
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: I don't care how you do it.
- 1:26:16Speaker 13: Do it.
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: But a winner never listens to the odds.
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: Whatever happens, I want you to stay with him.
- 1:26:23Speaker 7: Dad!
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Dad!
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: Come on, little boy!
- 1:26:29Speaker 6: Where did we end up?
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: Together is all I can guarantee.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: You ain't got a prayer in Vegas.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: You never had anything, so you have nothing to lose.
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: All I want to do is hurt him, cripple him,
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: get him off the table.
- 1:26:46Speaker 5: All I care about is you.
- 1:26:48Speaker 10: You're my boy, you understand?
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: There will be nobody halfway.
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: Now is the time to do for yourself.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: I love you.
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: Over the top, Dad, over the top. Sylvester Stallone, over
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: the top. Welcome.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: To a night of total terror. That's Mickey Mouse's penis.
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: I know, isn't that terrible? They don't look to be afraid.
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: They look to be shocked. Here's vagina! Did you see
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: Miley Cyrus' globulous breast? Night of the Living Podcast.
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: I found more syrup on my pants.
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: There's our adventure in fear.
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: There was, however, a guy using... An experience in shock.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: More shattering than your strangest nightmare.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Night of the Living Podcast.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: Fantastic. Holy shit! That just happened.
- 1:27:55Speaker 9: What's that bad man doing to my donkey?
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: A night of total terror. I can't maintain this level
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: of ridiculousness. They made a song.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: Night of the Living Podcast.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: I'm going to do the show! It's part of your problem,
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: You haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: answered in the movies.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: And now, on with the show.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: I'm cool.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: You let me tempt you and tease you and hold
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: you and squeeze you and feel every inch of your
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: love let me.
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: Show you things you never dreamed of.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: All right, we are back. And we've kind of got feedback.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Once again, you guys are slacking on the actual phone-ins
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: and even emails you're kind of slacking on. But again,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: since we wanted to, most of the rest of the
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: gang doesn't get the tweets, if you will. So we
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: got a few key ones this week that I thought
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I would pass on to you guys. And I'm not
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: writing in anymore.
- 1:29:40Speaker 9: Frickin' tweets.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: You're slacking since you're sitting here.
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: You should, like, email. Comment why you're sitting here.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: No, email right before you leave and then come over
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: here and, like, catch it. Yeah.
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: Meet it at the other end. That guy sucks. Man,
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: fuck you, Greg. What the fuck is his problem?
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: That guy's a loser. So, yeah, these are all from
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: Nick at Eskimo. He's, like, one of my favorites now
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: because we actually hear from him. Yeah, right? So screw
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: the rest of you guys.
- 1:30:04Speaker 9: For real.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: And I like it almost as he goes along in
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: the episode, we get like specific events that gets commented on.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: So first of all, I guess he was early on
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: in our little road trip last week and he sent
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: us one that says, Please tell me someone got McGriddles
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: when y'all stopped at Mickey D's. I love that shit.
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: Oh, it's the best thing they have there.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Now, I'm saying if I would have gotten something, I
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: would have gotten a McGriddle because I am on board
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: with y'all.
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: I've never been on board. I've tried to eat one.
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: I'm just, I cannot do it. It's too much. I
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: can't have cheese on it. But other than that, it's
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: McGriddle with cheese. I already loaded up.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: On donuts that morning. Otherwise, I didn't know we were
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: going to stop at McDonald's. That was the whole Roger
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: camp that came up with that plan.
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: Dude, we had to get some breakfast, you know?
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: So, yeah. Otherwise, yes, I would have been on top
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: of that McGriddles. Which is funny that he brought up
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: the food and that he was on board with this,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: what most people think is probably disgusting food item that
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: I was going to eat.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: Yeah, he follows that comment up with, Oh, dear Jiminy.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: The movie Meltdown Food Talk made me throw up in
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: my mouth a little.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: Nice. That's awesome.
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: Which I followed up with, I asked him, so was
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: that when we got to the part about the hamburgers
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: with donuts for buns? Yeah. To which he said back with, yeah.
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: Crispy.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: He said, yeah, that did it.
- 1:31:22Speaker 7: I stood in line at that booth and could only
- 1:31:25Speaker 7: bring myself to get the.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Sweet potato fries.
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: I want to sell out. Okay.
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: They were eight bucks, dude.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: You know, once again, for the ridiculous factor, I would
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: have saved up all week and be like, you know what?
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: I'm going to eat that thing.
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: I can put a damn hamburger on two Krispy Kreme
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: donuts at home.
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: You know, I'll give you that. If you go do
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: that at home, I mean, you can go buy them
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: at Krispy Kreme.
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: Fair drop boxes on that shit. It's a fair choice.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: If they deep fried the whole thing. That's what I said.
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: I was like, why aren't they deep frying this whole thing?
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: Sweet potato fries are really good, though.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: But based on his comment i was thinking maybe this
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: is like a new little you know tagline well the
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: new little tagline we need to have and i was
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: thinking it's all about the timing so wait for it
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: movie meltdown we make you throw up in your mouth
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: a little a little bit i was like you know
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: you need to start working on.
- 1:32:14Speaker 8: That movie meltdown we make people throw up in their
- 1:32:17Speaker 8: mouth a little bit a little bit.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Yes i think that's you know I'll work on getting
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: that out there to the masses.
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: Be proud of, be a part of something.
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: I'm sure that'll win people over that haven't listened or
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: turn away.
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: What is this website?
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: So yeah, he follows that up with also scary crotch
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: talk means I'll never go to a con.
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: Yeah. I think that was your, it's not a reason
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: to stay away, but it's, that's what I said.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I was like, ah, come on.
- 1:32:44Speaker 6: It was fun.
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: As long as you can hear clear of it. What
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: was the quote? The tall guy with the, that was
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: a moonlight level of.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: Junk at face level.
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: That was probably, I might've specifically, you were the one
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: that said, um, seeing guys junk in their, uh, latex
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: spandex or whatever.
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: God.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: Oh man. But, but I like the last one, but
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: the last one sort of rounds it out. And if
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: only Joni were here, cause I'm pretty sure this was
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: her comment. He follows it up with, Oh fuck me.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: I can taste how you smell is the greatest thing ever.
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: Oh, God, just imagining. Oh, God, so gross. I ran.
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: I ran back to the hotel room. I'm like, I
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: can't do this.
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: I can't do this. Help me.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: Oh, so yes, that was our Twitter feedback.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: Thank you, Nick at Eskimo. As always, we love to
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: hear from you.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: Don't make us smile.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: Bringing that up, yeah, we need to hear from everybody.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: And I kind of want to get, because I know
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: where to find him.
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: And Barb. And prizes.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: Well, no, because nobody ever comes through for us, so
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: I'm not even giving prizes anymore.
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: But that's why you have fake prizes.
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: Well, they're fake listeners because they don't come through for us.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: I've put out prizes before and people haven't even claimed them,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: so screw them. I'm keeping the prizes. But, yeah, when
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: they upgraded our system that sort of uploads the stuff
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: onto the interwebs, the new function that it has tells
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: us where the people are like where the downloads are
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: located that's kind of well yeah it is sort of
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: scary and big brother like but at the same time
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: it's kind of cool because now i'm looking at it
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: going do we have all these people where like so
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: yeah i was gonna bring it up and and uh
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: i kind of want to hear from these other locations
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: because it gives us a breakdown of well i just
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: i can just read the uh the the rundown here
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: because there's a huge huge amount of people downloading in
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: texas nice a massive amount like a huge austin uh
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: some of it let me see if i can understand
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: that It's San Antonio.
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: Our show?
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: Our show.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: They have a draft house there as well.
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: A massive amount from San Antonio.
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Dallas-Fort Worth.
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: Is it Pee Wee Herman?
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: You tell me.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: In the basement. In the basement. In the basement of
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: the Alamo.
- 1:35:21Speaker 9: That's it.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: So, yeah, we've got a ton in Texas. Righteous. Actually,
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: when we make fun of Canada, we've got a good
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: little slice in Ontario.
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: I wasn't making fun of Canada.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: Misty loves to make fun of Canada.
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: I fucking love Canada.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Love you, Canada.
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you love them now.
- 1:35:41Speaker 7: Shit.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: No, I was talking earlier.
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: No, it's Misty.
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: Sparkling lakes and unicorns.
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: And unicorns.
- 1:35:45Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: Ketchup potato chips.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: So, yeah, there's a good amount from Ohio. I can
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: see that. We've got our friends in Cincinnati area.
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: Cincinnati.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: And Tennessee, which I didn't see coming. But yeah, the
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: massive amounts in Texas, I didn't see coming.
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: I knew we had a few. Excellent for representing. We've
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: got another show in the UK. We've got a decent
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: amount of people downloading from the UK. There's been some
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: in China, India, Australia I knew about, Philippines, Germany, Singapore, Norway.
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: So my question is, where are you guys? We want
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: to hear from you.
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: I want to hear your accent. and click definitely words
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: letters like misty i'm creepy you know.
- 1:36:28Speaker 13: Cambodia we've got people in cambodia.
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: The czech republic i mean i want.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: To hear from these people yeah japan portugal korea we've
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: got downloads.
- 1:36:38Speaker 11: In all of these places all of you who do
- 1:36:39Speaker 11: listen from all these places and you're awesome you rock
- 1:36:43Speaker 11: but aren't letting.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: Us know your voice yeah it's like Now, I don't
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: know if everybody has, like, super cell phone that they
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: can call for free.
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: If so, if not, Skype us a message. I don't care.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: I mean, there's got to be a.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: But if nothing else, or MP3, you can record.
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: I'll throw that challenge. Tell us we suck.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: Yeah, record an MP3 and attach it to an email.
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: That's free.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: Like, I hate listening to you guys every week. But, yeah,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: if nothing else, emails are free.
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: Come on, man.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: You've all got email if you're downloading shit. So send
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: us an email. Let us know where you're at. I mean, again,
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: I know of a couple that we actually get feedback
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: from pretty regular from Texas. But that's like two of you.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: So everybody else, let's hear it. Because you're out there
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: in every other country in the world.
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: Are these downloads straight from the site or from the iTunes?
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: It does a breakdown of both. I think it's either way. So, yeah, it's...
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: I mean, a good majority of them are from iTunes
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: because iTunes rules the world at this point. But aside
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: from that, yeah, I think it factors in stuff straight
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: off the website as well.
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: Approximately how many listeners do we have?
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: Don't talk about it. A billion. Okay.
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: Yeah, somewhere between one and a billion.
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: One and a billion.
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: Okay, good.
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: All of your friends are listening to movies. Well, you
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: just listed what? different places, so it's at least 15.
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: I'm surprised that two people listen to our show.
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: We have 15 listeners. and we make you throw up 15.
- 1:38:06Speaker 9: Strong we're at least 15 strong 15 strong 15 country
- 1:38:12Speaker 9: strong soon world domination it would be funny if.
- 1:38:17Speaker 7: That was just me like i went from city to city.
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: No that would not be funny marlena she knows how
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: to reroute her ip.
- 1:38:23Speaker 6: Address No, just go from city to city and use
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: people's computers and download them.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: I really want you to run to Indonesia real quick
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: and download it a couple times.
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: Cambodia.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: Cambodia. They have iPods in Cambodia?
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: That just always makes me think of... It's apocalypse now.
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: We're right here in Cambodia.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he was just sort of sitting in
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: a huddle all day. Maybe he's downloading Movie Mountain. And
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: then he sits there going, the horror.
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: The horror of this damn show.
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: God, I should screen what I say.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: That makes me feel good.
- 1:38:55Speaker 7: Because, like, what if I say something offensive and I
- 1:38:58Speaker 7: get punched down the street?
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: Well, that's true.
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: Only when you go to Indonesia.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: If you don't like what Marlena says, come punch her
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: in the face.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: It's a new contest. Hey.
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: Don't live within the shackles of fear. Be what you
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: want to be. Say what you want to say.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Shit. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: People are going to love you for saying fucked up
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: shit more than being like... That's the thing.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: The only feedback we get is usually to something horrible
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: we did or said. So, I mean, the only people
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: that seem to like us are the ones that acknowledge
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: that we're all horrible people.
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: I like making people feel feelings. Whether it's rage, anger,
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: you know, like.
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: Or maybe they all feel dirty.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: That's possibly true.
- 1:39:38Speaker 7: Maybe they lock themselves in their bathroom or their closet
- 1:39:40Speaker 7: and listen to us and don't want anyone to know.
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: While they're in the shower, cowering, crying.
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: I like that we were also on the.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: Snorting.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: Our other feedback this past week attached to one of
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: our little reposts to send the message out to other
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: people that was about the new episode was a follow-back
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: comment that said, Movie Meltdown voted most likely to steal
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: your lunch money.
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: So are we are the cast voted most likely to
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: steal your lunch money so yeah that's that's us you
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: have those kangaroo shoes with a zipper pouch where you
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: put your fucking roughnecks and loved the world around i
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: hate my dollar bills and my roots always got sweaty
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: yeah see i just put quarters in my key and
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: quarters i.
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: Just usually have this bulging pocket full.
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: Of cash This is probably something you don't want to
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: tell me.
- 1:40:33Speaker 11: Punch her in the face and make sure you get
- 1:40:36Speaker 11: the bulging pocket of sweaty money.
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: I mean, stripping leads to that. Come on now.
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: Shut up, I'm not a stripper.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: You're winning people over.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: She has to defend herself and clarify, I am not
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: a stripper. I'm a superhero. I'm an exotic danza. You're
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: a superhero that shakes people down for money. Danza for money.
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: You finance yourself like Big Daddy. Yeah.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: We beat the hell of them and take their money.
- 1:41:03Speaker 6: That's cool.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: Thank you for the feedback. Yes, definitely.
- 1:41:06Speaker 9: Excellent.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: And that's, yeah, that was my thing is I saw
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: all these different places. I was like, where are, and
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: really just like not even complaining, just like curiosity at
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: this point. I was like, where do you live? How
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: did you find us? Yeah. I want to hear more
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: of your story, really.
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: It's one guy that is a business traveler just downloading
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: from different places. That's awesome. If you're George Clooney, you're
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: up in the air, man. That's cool. If he's that cool,
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: I want to hear from him. I want to hear
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: from you, too. He's the most interesting man in the world. So, yeah,
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: it's nothing else. His mom has a tattoo that says son.
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: Son.
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: I want to hear from that guy, too.
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: I do.
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: All of you quit slacking off, especially in these weird locales.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: We want to hear from you. Or even the U.S. locale.
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: We're hearing from about five people in five cities. There's
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: a hell of a lot more cities listed there.
- 1:41:58Speaker 7: We should start a contest where we mail the next
- 1:42:01Speaker 7: five people who call in with feedback a dollar bill.
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: Is that going to win him over?
- 1:42:06Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: Do you want to get a dollar?
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I was going to say, is it a sweaty dollar
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: bill out of your pants? Because you could probably get
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: some guys with that one. In Japan. We will make sure.
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: That in Japan, we don't want to get a sweat.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: If you guys want that contest, let me know, because
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: we might be able to set that up.
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: We might even be able to sell those dollars.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: We could probably get your favorite. You know, if Joanie
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: wants to get in on this action. I'm sure Misty
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: will be up for it, as long as she gets
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: some sort of cut out of this deal. I don't
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: see how we're getting money, but whatever. We'll figure something out.
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: Send us your dollar. We'll make it sweat.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: There you go. Maybe that's the way to do it.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: I'll draw a picture on it, sign it, or something.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: We want feedback with a buck, and then we'll send
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: it back to you.
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: In a special, special way. Special panty pouch.
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: We might have to charge for the panty pouch.
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: Well, not if they're like, we need to get rid
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: of them.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: Maybe we can.
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: Where are you getting these panty pouches?
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: Roger's going through all dirty laundry.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: Yes, this is gold.
- 1:43:12Speaker 6: Baby, this is gold. It's like it's been buckshot.
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: Yeah. You're not going to wear these anymore, sweetheart, are you? No.
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: Did the moths get into this? Yeah, right? We just
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: need to get movie meltdown thongs made up. Classy as ever.
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: Look like somebody melted down in them.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: And then... Then you can pick your favorite person to wear.
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: I'm going to send you one.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: While we're recording the show, you can wear it.
- 1:43:40Speaker 6: It's going to be you, Brian.
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: It's going to be Greg.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: You know it is. That's why I didn't say pick
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: your favorite girl.
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: I'm out of a job.
- 1:43:48Speaker 7: That's true.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: Greg's looking for money, so if you've got ways for
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: him to shake his money maker.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: We'll have Joni wear, like, you know, bra and panties
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: and sing it for you or something.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: According to Roger, that can be arranged. We haven't heard
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: it from her.
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: I mean, I'll ask.
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: But it's for sure.
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: Or not, he'll... You better do what I say.
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: This might get me into trouble later on. I'm doing
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: the laundry for now. I'm going to take some pics.
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: Some pics, babe. Please put these on. Hold up this
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: sign that says, thank you, John.
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: And movie meltdown rocks right across your stomach. Thanks.
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Why is this? Don't ask any questions, honey. Don't you worry.
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: Baby, when you talk, I can't send you a picture.
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: You're messing up the picture.
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: And this video I'm taking.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: Before I get in trouble, yes, let's move on. Now,
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: why'd you turn the air conditioning off? We have to
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: have it hot for you to sweat. Gotta be sweaty
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: in here. Or opposite, turn it on. It's gonna be hard.
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: My glass.
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: That's for the videos. The man paid his dollar.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: Look, you're gonna give him his dollar's worth, damn it.
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Or whatever currency from the country you live in.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: Exactly. Do they still make rubles? I want some rubles. Rubies?
- 1:45:08Speaker 7: Yen?
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: Yes. Send us whatever euro monies. Crazy Asian monies. Whatever
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: country you come from, please. Send us your money and
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: we'll send it back to you. Look how desperate we are.
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: I mean, we're trying to do everything we can for
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: you people.
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: Actually, we're just coming up with more ridiculous things we
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: can do. We're true geeks. We really need some kind
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: of feedback. We really do. We need something to occupy
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: our time. You're not alone.
- 1:45:32Speaker 6: We need to be validated.
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: Yes. Please validate us. Validate us.
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: Please. You love us, right?
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: Because if we found out no one was listening, somebody
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: might kill themselves.
- 1:45:41Speaker 8: Yeah, right?
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying who. But anyway. Alrighty then. So there's
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: your task at hand. Your challenge, if you will.
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: Keep someone out of the hospital. That's what your task is.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: And get sweaty money in return. I mean, what more?
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: There's no downside there.
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: This is so true.
- 1:46:02Speaker 8: So true.
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: Don't be shy.
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: We'd like to hear from you.
- 1:46:12Speaker 8: So give us a call at 502-365-5565. Or you can
- 1:46:17Speaker 8: email us at geeksatmoviemeltdown.com. And just stop by the website
- 1:46:21Speaker 8: for our frequent updates. That's moviemeltdown.com.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: On by, on by.
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: On by, on by.
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: On by.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: Shock the Bus Countdown! On by, on by. I've got
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: a picture called Sharktopus, which comes out September 25th on
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: the Sci-Fi Channel. It is now 26 days, 4 hours,
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: 12 minutes, and 22 seconds until the premiere of Sharktopus. Okay, kids,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: get out your decoder pens. It is time. time for
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: the movie meltdown secret circle where we'll have the next
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: two movies that don't match the last time we told.
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: You cool we're changing it up again on the fly.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: Because we can we love you no not really but
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: i'm trying to well i mean just in general.
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: If you're pissed off at us give us some feedback
- 1:47:21Speaker 3: well we're trying to.
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: Give you heads up so that you can go out
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: and watch the movie basically when we push it back
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: we just give you more time to track down the
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: freaking movies what do you want So, and this one
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: was because I noticed, you know, we haven't been to
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: the theater in a while, and we were like, hey,
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: we need to go see a movie in the theater,
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: as we said earlier in this episode. So I was thinking, hey,
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: we got several movies coming up in the theater that
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: we need to see.
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: Well, the first of which is next week. Next week
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: is Machete.
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: Machete. Holy shit.
- 1:47:51Speaker 11: It came out as just a funny-looking, we would like
- 1:47:54Speaker 11: to see that as a real movie trailer at the
- 1:47:56Speaker 11: beginning of RuneHouse.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: And now it is a real trailer. A real movie
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: that actually makes that trailer look like a joke.
- 1:48:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: That it was.
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: A stupid child's play.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: It's nothing compared to the now real trailer for the
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: actual movie, so.
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: I just hope I'm not disappointed. Yeah. I think it's
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: going to be a train wreck, but an enjoyable one. Yeah,
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: just based on the trailer, I'm like, how?
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: Because at least they did it right. Like, if you
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: watch that one. Red Band trailer, there's no second guessing
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: what kind of movie this is.
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: They did not mess it up like Piranha did. It's like,
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: they at least realized, this is Grindhouse, this is what
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: we're doing, let's make sure people know what we're doing.
- 1:48:33Speaker 7: So.
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you kind of get the idea, especially with the
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: red band trailer.
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: Gatling guns on the front of your motorcycle.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: As it's flying through the air out of an explosion.
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: Subtle?
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: Once again, no.
- 1:48:46Speaker 6: This is my life at least three out of seven
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: days a week.
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: That's true.
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: We had to put her out when she got here.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: She was still slightly on fire as she came in
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: the door.
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: Stop, jack and roll. Stop, jack and roll.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: All right, so the following week, we realize once again,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: is another movie we've been talking about for quite a while.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: I don't know that anybody else cares, but we all
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: seem to be on board for Resident Evil. And what
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: is this one?
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: Afterlife. Afterlife.
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: Mostly it's in 3D.
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: Wesker is going to be in it. Chris Redfield.
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: We need to go see Mila in 3D. Mila.
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: Jovovich.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: Jovovich, according to her.
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: I always thought it was Jovovich.
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: Until she said it. Crazy Jovovich girl.
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: There's silent things going on in there.
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: All right so that's the next two and i promise
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: you we will get to night of the creeps that's
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: the one we've pitched a couple times now and it
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: is already you know in the works we've got the
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: interview lined up so you know we've got the interview
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: already done.
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: Like i said more time for you all to watch.
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: For you to go watch it again re-watch it watch
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: it for the first time it's excellent whatever you need
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: to do it's an awesome movie so this shit out
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: of me first check it out All right. As far
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: as music, I think we should go out with the
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: big namesake of this movie. I don't think there's anything
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: more excess and appropriate than the Apple. Otherwise, that about
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: does it. We will return next week. Same geek time,
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: same geek feed.
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: Thanks for listening.
- 1:50:12Speaker 8: Thanks, guys.

- 1:51:03Speaker 1: On fire, fire, fire.
- 1:51:07Speaker 10: You'll be hypnotized and you'll be demonized, but you'll be paralyzed,
- 1:51:12Speaker 10: so you'll be victimized. You're fascinated, captivated, losing your mind
- 1:51:16Speaker 10: when we cast the apple eye on you.
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: Holy apple, sacred apple.
- 1:51:23Speaker 10: Take a little chance, get into a trance, and join

- 1:52:42Speaker 3: Trust the apple. Yeah, bite the apple.
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: Bite the apple.
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: Take the apple.
- 1:52:49Speaker 7: Whoa!
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: Whoa!
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: Take a bite.
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm going to have to give you a ticket.
- 1:53:08Speaker 11: Why?
