- 0:13Speaker 1: Welcome to Welcome to the show, Chip Boy, and I
- 0:17Speaker 1: see in the place to be my main man on
- 0:19Speaker 1: the ones and twos the Human Sports Almanac, the legend himself,
- 0:23Speaker 1: mister Jason Baum, Crazy Day at the good Rich Household.
- 0:29Speaker 1: To say the least, I will spare you guys the details.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And it's gonna be rapid fire today, as my man
- 0:35Speaker 1: CP the Fanchise likes to say, and we are going
- 0:38Speaker 1: to get right into it, and we are going to
- 0:41Speaker 1: start off with a little bit of Nicks that we're
- 0:43Speaker 1: gonna talk a little bit of World Cup. We're actually
- 0:44Speaker 1: gonna talk a lot of a lot of World Cup.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It's gonna be the closest thing to a soccer podcast
- 0:50Speaker 1: that you're ever gonna see out of me today, probably
- 0:52Speaker 1: because specially since I probably won't care about any of
- 0:54Speaker 1: this for you know, the next three and three quarter years.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But start off with the world champion New York Knicks.
- 1:04Speaker 1: That will never ever get you know, it'll never be
- 1:07Speaker 1: boring to say that. I'll never get tired of saying it.
- 1:10Speaker 1: The world champion New York Knicks. They got their backup center.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I reacted to this live last episode where Andre rumming
- 1:18Speaker 1: Drummond was signed by the New Yek's one New York Knicks,
- 1:21Speaker 1: one year, three point nine million Drummond comes in. You know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: my reaction that I had that day is pretty similar
- 1:30Speaker 1: to how I feel overall, where he is definitely a
- 1:34Speaker 1: guy who is somewhat reliable. He's a prolific rebounder, has
- 1:38Speaker 1: been his entire career. You know what you're gonna get
- 1:40Speaker 1: from him. And when it comes to rebounds, he can't finish,
- 1:44Speaker 1: he can't jump. He's a decent passer. He's a better
- 1:47Speaker 1: three point shoot, three point shooter than I thought. I
- 1:49Speaker 1: said last week, I said absolutely no threes from him.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I don't want to see any of those corner threes
- 1:53Speaker 1: that I saw him taking against the Knicks when we
- 1:55Speaker 1: played them. But honestly, after a little bit more research,
- 1:59Speaker 1: he's got a decent three ball. He shoots it pretty
- 2:01Speaker 1: well from the corners. And so yeah, the Knicks, they
- 2:04Speaker 1: go ahead and they get their guy. And he's not
- 2:08Speaker 1: Mitchell Robinson. He's not gonna be able to defend on
- 2:10Speaker 1: the perimeter like Mitchell Robinson. He's not going to be
- 2:12Speaker 1: able to affect shots at the rim quite like Mitch does,
- 2:15Speaker 1: and he is not quite the offensive rebounder that Mitch is.
- 2:20Speaker 1: But when you look at the numbers, it's surprising how
- 2:22Speaker 1: close they are. Honestly, it's it's I most a lot
- 2:25Speaker 1: of these numbers, you know, everything's you know, per thirty
- 2:28Speaker 1: six or per one hundred possessions a pop. Whatever. Yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 1: when I look at him, I see Mitch at the top,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and I see drumming right behind him. Quite often, he's
- 2:36Speaker 1: a better defensive rebounder or something that I thought definitely
- 2:39Speaker 1: was a fall off for Mitch these last few years
- 2:43Speaker 1: as a nick. But hey, you know, I think that overall,
- 2:46Speaker 1: he's a serviceable backup. I think that when you win
- 2:48Speaker 1: a championship, it's inevitable that you're going to lose some players,
- 2:51Speaker 1: especially with the current second apron how it's set up.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Shout to c J. McCollum, not shouted to actually actually
- 2:56Speaker 1: not shout to him, but I want to point out
- 2:58Speaker 1: c J. McCollum, this current CPA. I'm pretty sure you
- 3:03Speaker 1: were the president of the Players Association when it was signed.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It don't look that good from the player's point of view,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and even owners are getting annoyed by the fact that
- 3:11Speaker 1: they can't resign their guys. I saw if somebody was
- 3:14Speaker 1: just I saw something where, you know, where Brad Stevens
- 3:18Speaker 1: he was explaining some sort of percentages and just saying basically,
- 3:21Speaker 1: it's almost impossible if you have two guys that want
- 3:23Speaker 1: to get all of that money. And that's something that
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'll touch on again here in a little in just
- 3:28Speaker 1: a second, DeMar DeRozan is a free agent. A lot
- 3:30Speaker 1: of people in the knickt Twitter space have been begging
- 3:34Speaker 1: for Damar as like a backup off the bench, like
- 3:37Speaker 1: combo guard. I mean, and not really. It's just a
- 3:39Speaker 1: guy who can handle the ball a little bit and
- 3:40Speaker 1: obviously can score. He's proved to be a capable score
- 3:43Speaker 1: throughout his entire career. You know, I think still average
- 3:46Speaker 1: like eighteen on good percentages last year gives you a
- 3:49Speaker 1: few assists a game too, three four assists. To me, personally,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I don't want DeMar de Rozan. I'd rather bring back
- 3:55Speaker 1: Jordan Clarkson. I have so much respect for Clarkson the
- 3:58Speaker 1: way that he handled himself last year, the fact that
- 4:01Speaker 1: he totally reinvented his game, stopped just chucking up threes,
- 4:06Speaker 1: focused on defense and offensive rebounding, and by doing so,
- 4:10Speaker 1: he helped the Knicks go on and win an NBA championship.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I thought he was huge for us in certain pockets
- 4:15Speaker 1: of the season, fell out of the rotation, got back
- 4:18Speaker 1: into the rotation after a performance against Utah, his former team,
- 4:23Speaker 1: and Rick Brunson is on the sideline telling Mike Brown, hey,
- 4:28Speaker 1: go ahead and throw him in. Well, you know, he
- 4:30Speaker 1: gets his former team. We were looking a little listless
- 4:32Speaker 1: at the time. He comes in and he plays very well,
- 4:35Speaker 1: gets right back into the rotation, and then Clarkson continues
- 4:38Speaker 1: to be, you know, kind of just that guy off
- 4:40Speaker 1: the bench who can come in and just be a
- 4:44Speaker 1: bit of a firecracker, you know. And the fact that
- 4:47Speaker 1: he was willing to stay a professional. He never bitched
- 4:50Speaker 1: and complained. He augmented his game to help win a championship.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'll take that back on my team. And you know, tomorrow,
- 4:57Speaker 1: Rowsan's gonna want a whole lot of shots, and I
- 4:59Speaker 1: don't know if we have those to give to him
- 5:01Speaker 1: truthfully on this team, especially as other guys. You know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I think you're gonna see upticking shots from out of
- 5:06Speaker 1: og this year. I think you're going to see a
- 5:10Speaker 1: lot more just free flowing basketball with Cat at the hub.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And I don't know if tomorrow DeRozan really fits into that,
- 5:16Speaker 1: as he's typically a guy who likes to get the ball,
- 5:19Speaker 1: look his man down, and get a bucket. He's very
- 5:20Speaker 1: good at it. I just don't think it's what we need.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And I'm all about just bringing the whole band back
- 5:24Speaker 1: as much as we possibly can, and if we're able
- 5:26Speaker 1: to bring Clarkson back, we're basically bringing back everybody but Mitch.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Mitchel Robinson had his statement, you know, after leaving the
- 5:34Speaker 1: next he did admit that his hand, he like his
- 5:38Speaker 1: hand collided with the straight he hits. He punched his truck.
- 5:41Speaker 1: He said it hit his hand hit his truck after
- 5:44Speaker 1: finding out that his brother had been in a car accident.
- 5:47Speaker 1: You know, listen, absolutely I feel horrible for Mitch and
- 5:51Speaker 1: having to deal with some of the you know, just
- 5:54Speaker 1: to the drama and some of the struggles that he
- 5:56Speaker 1: has had recently. I also think that when you pay
- 6:01Speaker 1: somebody millions of dollars, you can have certain expectations for
- 6:04Speaker 1: them on how they're going to conduct themselves in all
- 6:07Speaker 1: different types of moments, moments of crisis, moments of joy,
- 6:10Speaker 1: whatever the case may be. If I'm giving a guy
- 6:13Speaker 1: fifteen million. I need you to not punch something and
- 6:16Speaker 1: break your hand on the eve of the finals when
- 6:18Speaker 1: you're upset. I'm sorry, sorry. I know a lot of
- 6:24Speaker 1: people love Mitch. People knix Twitter that they'll kill me
- 6:27Speaker 1: for this because they you know, it seems like you
- 6:30Speaker 1: can't say anything anti Mitch or even bring up, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 1: some some glaring deficiencies that he has without somebody like
- 6:36Speaker 1: you know, acting like you know, you're you're not loyal
- 6:39Speaker 1: or something like that. Look, I wish Mitch all the best.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I need I need you to not break your hand
- 6:44Speaker 1: right before the finals. I need you to you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: accidents happened. Sure, this was not an accident. You're emotional
- 6:51Speaker 1: and this happened, and I need, I need you to
- 6:53Speaker 1: figure out a way not to do that point point period.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Brunson came out today he is getting wrist surgery. It's
- 7:02Speaker 1: the wrist in the forearm of his left hand. He'll
- 7:06Speaker 1: have to sit it down and you know, rehab it
- 7:08Speaker 1: for two months and he should be ready for the
- 7:11Speaker 1: beginning of the season. Nothing to be too alarmed about,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I'm sure for Brunts and you know, he's the type
- 7:16Speaker 1: of guy that him not shooting a ball for a
- 7:18Speaker 1: couple of months is going to be very hard for him.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm sure towards the end of that rehab he'll be
- 7:22Speaker 1: able to shoot and you know, definitely be able to
- 7:24Speaker 1: get into his routine enough. I'm sure he'll still be
- 7:26Speaker 1: continuing to work on the rest of his body. Uh.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And you know what, Honestly, for a guy like him,
- 7:30Speaker 1: it might it might be good for him to just
- 7:32Speaker 1: make him sit down for a second. Just had a
- 7:33Speaker 1: new kid, just want a championship, you know, sit there,
- 7:36Speaker 1: enjoy that. You know, get stay, stay, stay, stay working.
- 7:40Speaker 1: No doubt, we already know, we've already seen videos of
- 7:43Speaker 1: you back in the lab getting it done. But I'm
- 7:45Speaker 1: okay with Brunson. Uh Uh. You know, having to take
- 7:48Speaker 1: a little time and sit down, even if it's forced
- 7:50Speaker 1: upon him. What it does is it just adds another
- 7:53Speaker 1: layer to the fact that he had an injury and
- 7:59Speaker 1: he shooting wrist while he was leading us to the
- 8:04Speaker 1: NBA finals, while he was personally out playing and outdueling
- 8:11Speaker 1: the golden boy that everybody wants to call the best
- 8:14Speaker 1: player in the NBA. When Brunson was crossing him overhaving
- 8:21Speaker 1: him hitting him with the liver shot that liver shot.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It was with a with a broke with some with
- 8:26Speaker 1: some something in his wrist that would need would later
- 8:28Speaker 1: need surgery. All the great jump shots he made with
- 8:31Speaker 1: that left hand were all things that he was doing
- 8:35Speaker 1: with a wrist and or forearm that would later need surgery.
- 8:40Speaker 1: So it just adds another layer, another piece of low
- 8:49Speaker 1: to the King of New York and his championship run.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Shout to JB Man, shot to Brunson, Donovan Mitchell signs
- 8:56Speaker 1: of Max. So Donovan Mitchell signs of Max he could
- 9:00Speaker 1: have he could resign next year for more. So therefore
- 9:04Speaker 1: it's almost it's it's slightly like the Brunson thing where
- 9:07Speaker 1: he left some money on the table, though it doesn't
- 9:09Speaker 1: seem like aav wise he left as much on the table.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure how that works. I wanted Donovan
- 9:16Speaker 1: Mitchell so bad that summer, where many people, including like
- 9:22Speaker 1: Fat Joe, will tell you that the deal was just
- 9:25Speaker 1: absolutely done, and in the last second Danny Inge came
- 9:28Speaker 1: in demanded more and the Knicks backed away. But I
- 9:30Speaker 1: wanted him a few off seasons ago, in addition to
- 9:35Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson, and I wanted him much more than I
- 9:38Speaker 1: wanted Jalen Brunson, so one of those times where it
- 9:43Speaker 1: couldn't be better for me to be wrong, because you know,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you look at those two players, especially their playoff in
- 9:51Speaker 1: fourth quarter performance, their grit, their leadership, and they're not
- 9:54Speaker 1: even on the same planet in my opinion. And I'm
- 9:57Speaker 1: very very happy that the Knicks have JB. Donnah And honestly,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know, it says Max, but he could have signed
- 10:04Speaker 1: for more next year. I don't know exactly how that works,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but if you're not taking a discount, you're gonna have
- 10:10Speaker 1: a tough time if you're a star player and you
- 10:12Speaker 1: want a team around you that could be a team
- 10:15Speaker 1: that can win the NBA Championship and really compete. It's
- 10:22Speaker 1: it's tough at this point, especially with this new CBA
- 10:25Speaker 1: and with the with the second apron, to be able
- 10:27Speaker 1: to feel a team like that if you're not willing
- 10:31Speaker 1: to take some sort of discount, That's just what it is, man,
- 10:34Speaker 1: That's just what it is. You know, whether whether whether
- 10:38Speaker 1: I agree with it or not or whether it's is
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, a narrative that's been created by maybe the
- 10:46Speaker 1: owners so that they can But that's the thing I've
- 10:49Speaker 1: seen multiple owners bitch about the second apron already, so
- 10:52Speaker 1: it doesn't seem like that's what it is. It seems
- 10:54Speaker 1: like the the the owners that are that are cheap,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and you know, the overall Sorry, I got, I got,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I got, I got Columbia and Switzerland. I got it
- 11:05Speaker 1: on the screen. You know, time constraints. We had to
- 11:08Speaker 1: do what we had to do. It was a ball
- 11:10Speaker 1: that was in the air that was bending towards the goal,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and I reacted. But yeah, still nil nil, you like that, right,
- 11:16Speaker 1: nil nil? I said to my wife earlier, I said, yo, my,
- 11:19Speaker 1: my soccer terminology, it's all it's all about. Earlier I called,
- 11:22Speaker 1: I said something about the pitch and she was like
- 11:24Speaker 1: the pitch and she was like, they don't even use
- 11:27Speaker 1: their hands, and I was like, nah, baby, the pitch
- 11:29Speaker 1: is the field in soccer. She's like, why would they
- 11:33Speaker 1: call it that? But yeah, nil nil. We are an
- 11:40Speaker 1: extra time It is one hundred and twelve minutes and
- 11:44Speaker 1: then they get they get two fifteen minute halfs right
- 11:46Speaker 1: on an extra.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Time correct, So there's about a little over seven minutes
- 11:51Speaker 2: plus maybe a little stoppage time remaining in that second
- 11:55Speaker 2: extra time half just to go back to Donovan Mitchell,
- 11:59Speaker 2: really cool four years. Well, I got the exact figures
- 12:02Speaker 2: here of his salary. So once that new contract extension
- 12:05Speaker 2: kicks in, that's a starting salary of sixty point nine
- 12:09Speaker 2: million dollars and goes up by about five mili four
- 12:13Speaker 2: and a half to like or four point nine to
- 12:14Speaker 2: five mil every season. So by the time that deal ends,
- 12:17Speaker 2: he's gonna be making a cool seventy five point five
- 12:20Speaker 2: million dollars in the final year that contract.
- 12:22Speaker 1: That's crazy with the cap.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Aarans of only ten percent every season for the new CBA.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Speaking of CJ.
- 12:28Speaker 1: McCollum, Yeah, that I'm sorry, that's crazy. That that's that's
- 12:33Speaker 1: too much. I know, Like sometimes you look at the
- 12:36Speaker 1: numbers and you gotta be like, oh and look, I
- 12:38Speaker 1: just pulled up his tweet. This is a good one.
- 12:39Speaker 1: This is a good one. Okay. So for comparison, you
- 12:44Speaker 1: got Brunson, deuce Andre, Drummond, Mode War combined. Next year,
- 12:50Speaker 1: we'll make forty six point seven million. Donovan Mitchell will
- 12:53Speaker 1: make fifty point one. In twenty seven twenty eight, those
- 12:58Speaker 1: same players will make it fifty one point four million.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Donofan Minshew will make sixty point nine. It's just it's
- 13:05Speaker 1: harder and harder to understand how you're gonna be. Like, obviously, listen,
- 13:08Speaker 1: they clearly if they think they're getting Lebron, they believe
- 13:11Speaker 1: he's coming for the minimum, right, That's the only thing
- 13:14Speaker 1: that makes sense. So, okay, you got James Harden. He's
- 13:18Speaker 1: not a Max guy anymore. I mean, I don't know.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I just it just seems like it's really really I
- 13:26Speaker 1: see how difficult it is for the Knicks to try
- 13:29Speaker 1: to build this team and now keep it together. And
- 13:32Speaker 1: I can't imagine what it would be if Brunson was
- 13:34Speaker 1: making Max money, which he clearly deserves. But hey, hey,
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know you'll figure it out in Cleveland, man, we
- 13:39Speaker 1: are over here. Last thing I want to talk about
- 13:42Speaker 1: with the next real quick. I you know, I debated
- 13:45Speaker 1: whether or not I was gonna talk about this at
- 13:47Speaker 1: all today. But there's a little bit of a beef
- 13:49Speaker 1: going on right now in the in Knick Twitterland, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: I am oh yo, lot of chances for Columbia and
- 14:03Speaker 1: they cannot bury it another one. Wow. Okay, So I
- 14:12Speaker 1: I debated on whether that's talk about this just because
- 14:15Speaker 1: first and foremost like I am in no way shape
- 14:17Speaker 1: or form a heavyweight in nix Twitter, there is a
- 14:24Speaker 1: lot of people with huge followings, you know, some of
- 14:28Speaker 1: them not even really content creators, just people who talk
- 14:32Speaker 1: Nick's on Twitter. Of the few followers that I do have,
- 14:37Speaker 1: it is mostly nix Twitter. And there are some people
- 14:40Speaker 1: who are the absolute heavyweights of nick Twitter that I
- 14:43Speaker 1: have at least some sort of a friendly relationship, some
- 14:46Speaker 1: of them better than others. I give all those caveats
- 14:50Speaker 1: because I'm not gonna get so basically, I will say
- 14:55Speaker 1: who did this because it's very easy, and it's not
- 14:57Speaker 1: it's not given an opinion, but a Papa left or
- 15:01Speaker 1: you know Lefty. I forget exactly what his handle is,
- 15:03Speaker 1: but if you know nix Twitter, you know who he is.
- 15:06Speaker 1: He is a team ambassador with Fanatics and he I
- 15:13Speaker 1: guess he chose. I don't know exactly what the process was,
- 15:17Speaker 1: but some people that are some of the more prominent
- 15:21Speaker 1: people in nix Twitter got small like Fanatics replicas of
- 15:26Speaker 1: the Larry O'Brien. I actually had already looked at it,
- 15:30Speaker 1: just getting one of these for myself. I want to
- 15:32Speaker 1: get some sort of Larry Obrian. I just want something
- 15:34Speaker 1: a little bit bigger than what that is, but it's
- 15:36Speaker 1: still like one hundred and fifty bucks, like maybe one
- 15:38Speaker 1: hundred and sevent out, so still you know, fairly you know,
- 15:40Speaker 1: fairly highly priced first, you know, something that big and plastic.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So these all get sent out to these people, and
- 15:46Speaker 1: yesterday you see a lot of people unboxing them, taking
- 15:48Speaker 1: pictures with them, and they're very happy about it. Now
- 15:51Speaker 1: there's been some people that have, you know, kind of
- 15:56Speaker 1: been like, hey, like, I guess I missed the memo,
- 15:58Speaker 1: Like I'm me and I and get one. Like I
- 16:01Speaker 1: said before, I have no grounds to be able to
- 16:02Speaker 1: say anything like that, nor do I even really want one,
- 16:05Speaker 1: but I would. I'm not saying that if somehow I
- 16:08Speaker 1: would have got sent one that I wouldn't been like
- 16:10Speaker 1: stoked on it. Okay, so keeping it a buck. Now,
- 16:14Speaker 1: there's been some people who have been like kind of
- 16:16Speaker 1: annoyed that they didn't get one. There's been some other
- 16:19Speaker 1: people who are like, yo, how are you going to
- 16:21Speaker 1: get upset about, you know, them getting one and you
- 16:25Speaker 1: not getting one? Like we just want to championship? What
- 16:27Speaker 1: is going on, Papa, pap? And then there's been some
- 16:29Speaker 1: people that I've seen one person in particular, she knows
- 16:34Speaker 1: who I'm talking about. Again, I'm not trying to bring
- 16:36Speaker 1: more attention to the whole situation, so I'll just I'm
- 16:38Speaker 1: not even We're not gonna do anymore, but basically just said, hey, well,
- 16:41Speaker 1: shout to all the people who don't necessarily have those
- 16:44Speaker 1: big followings and don't go to this particular watch partotery
- 16:47Speaker 1: for every single game. But they are still you know,
- 16:51Speaker 1: real Nick fans and have been in this forever and
- 16:54Speaker 1: you know, got you know, they got love on this
- 16:56Speaker 1: app and whatnot to and I'm just here to say
- 16:59Speaker 1: to all y'all just just just let's just as as
- 17:04Speaker 1: Perk likes to say, let's keep a cool boty and
- 17:06Speaker 1: let's relax and let's realize that, Yo, we just won
- 17:10Speaker 1: the chip. This is the same energy as like the
- 17:13Speaker 1: people who are mad about who we didn't get in
- 17:15Speaker 1: the draft or who Leon didn't sign or yo. Just
- 17:21Speaker 1: just trust, just trust that it means a lot to you,
- 17:27Speaker 1: it means a lot to others. Some people are going
- 17:30Speaker 1: to get recognized by one person and not by another.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Some people are going to get certain access even if
- 17:38Speaker 1: they haven't been in the game. Don't care as yo,
- 17:41Speaker 1: let everybody fan how they want to fan enjoy the
- 17:44Speaker 1: chip and this is the last time, the last time
- 17:47Speaker 1: that we need for us to be going back and forth.
- 17:50Speaker 1: It seems like there's like a quarterly cycle, like once
- 17:52Speaker 1: a quarter nixt Twitter has something happened between two people
- 17:57Speaker 1: and nix Twitter that puts everybody at odds and it's
- 18:00Speaker 1: big thing. I get it, you know, especially a lot
- 18:04Speaker 1: of people that are from the Northeast or just have
- 18:09Speaker 1: that Nick fan energy in general, they're gonna be the
- 18:12Speaker 1: type who get a little bit you know, fired up
- 18:16Speaker 1: and get and are looking to pick sides and willing
- 18:19Speaker 1: to talk shit and all that's cool. Let's let's have
- 18:23Speaker 1: a nice peaceful summer. Or the champs act like champions.
- 18:28Speaker 1: We are the champs. Life is good. Let's just chill,
- 18:31Speaker 1: all right. That's that's all I'm gonna say. Okay, so
- 18:37Speaker 1: let's let's talk a little let's talk a little footy.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I don't know, there's sometimes where I feel like I
- 18:42Speaker 1: should just commit to calling at soccer and just not
- 18:44Speaker 1: and sometimes say football or whatever. I it's you know,
- 18:49Speaker 1: you know, it's something to ask about on a later
- 18:51Speaker 1: show or if you could look it up real quick.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Bomb like how do we why did we start calling Like,
- 18:55Speaker 1: at this point when we decided to call football football
- 18:58Speaker 1: over here, there was already i would think, some people
- 19:04Speaker 1: playing soccer in this country. Obviously, it was already being
- 19:07Speaker 1: called football and being played in other places in the world,
- 19:11Speaker 1: and had been for so many years. It just seems
- 19:13Speaker 1: so unoriginal that we decided to go and call our
- 19:16Speaker 1: sport football, especially when there's only so much kicking. Back
- 19:19Speaker 1: when it first started there with kicking was more prominent.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Though, right, Yeah, for sure, So just looking it up, yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 2: they were basically just trying to distinguish it initially from
- 19:29Speaker 2: rugby football. But I agree. I feel like when we
- 19:32Speaker 2: call football out here, it feels like we're just trying
- 19:34Speaker 2: to sound like culture and trying to sound the age
- 19:38Speaker 2: instead of just like what would just call it soccer?
- 19:40Speaker 1: Right right, It's like when you say, we're trying to
- 19:43Speaker 1: say like crossol instead of just saying like it's a croissant. Bro,
- 19:46Speaker 1: Like you fucking you've fend the States, doc, Like you
- 19:50Speaker 1: know you did one. Fuck you didn't even do a
- 19:52Speaker 1: semester in fucking Paris, bro, you did you did your
- 19:55Speaker 1: ship in Madrid? Stop with the bullshit, But man, I
- 19:59Speaker 1: am Yeah, it's a yeah, we're gonna go soccer. We're
- 20:03Speaker 1: gonna I'm committing to soccer. I'm committing soccer. Moving forward,
- 20:06Speaker 1: so we got to talk about the US First off,
- 20:10Speaker 1: the top most anticipated match in US men's national team history.
- 20:16Speaker 1: A lot of people say, we went into this tournament
- 20:20Speaker 1: feeling like we had the best team maybe ever, that
- 20:24Speaker 1: we've ever had. And we got to the round of sixteen,
- 20:27Speaker 1: which we've been to before. We haven't advanced in a
- 20:32Speaker 1: knockout stage. That's something that's new with they're being thirty two,
- 20:35Speaker 1: but we have gotten to sixteen before. We've never gotten
- 20:38Speaker 1: past sixteen. And we go in and we go in
- 20:45Speaker 1: against Belgium, and there's a lot of conversation about how
- 20:56Speaker 1: exactly our lineup was going to look when that match started.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I want to talk about the match first, and then
- 21:03Speaker 1: I want to talk about the controversy. So from the
- 21:07Speaker 1: very beginning, the US team, they looked very hesitant, hesitant,
- 21:15Speaker 1: unsure of themselves. A little yippie got the yips a
- 21:19Speaker 1: little bit. A lot of these really crisp passes that
- 21:24Speaker 1: you see from one player to another, creating that triangle
- 21:28Speaker 1: bang bang anticipation, one tap, one hit, you saw Belgium
- 21:35Speaker 1: matriculating the ball around the field in just that manner.
- 21:38Speaker 1: You saw the US key possession for a few seconds,
- 21:44Speaker 1: maybe a pass, maybe two, and then immediately giving it up.
- 21:49Speaker 1: It looked like two teams that weren't all the same level.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I'm those soccer expert. I've probably coached more soccer games
- 21:56Speaker 1: than I've watched, just coaching my kids when they were young,
- 22:01Speaker 1: but it was just so clear that one team was
- 22:06Speaker 1: outclassing another, and unfortunately that was the US team that
- 22:11Speaker 1: was being outclassed. I mean, it was just it couldn't
- 22:14Speaker 1: have popped off the screen more from the very beginning,
- 22:16Speaker 1: you know, when they scored. When Belgium scored their first goal,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I was like, this could get ugly real quick. I
- 22:22Speaker 1: you know, I could see US losing big. Now, the
- 22:26Speaker 1: US goes down to nil, and then they're able to
- 22:30Speaker 1: fight back into it. They come out in the second
- 22:32Speaker 1: half and they look like, you know, they got something going.
- 22:36Speaker 1: They look like they're got a renewed energy, they're putting
- 22:39Speaker 1: some pressure, they're getting a couple chances, and then we
- 22:44Speaker 1: give up that third goal, which I mean freeze that.
- 22:53Speaker 1: That was one of the worst plays, one of the
- 22:56Speaker 1: worst plays I've ever seen by a goalie my entire life.
- 23:01Speaker 1: He catches himself out there in no man's land, but
- 23:05Speaker 1: then he gets possession of the ball. Then he goes
- 23:08Speaker 1: to try to kick it, but he kicks the ground
- 23:11Speaker 1: and you know, gives the ball right back. Easy goal.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I just, I just I don't know. That's like something
- 23:17Speaker 1: you just don't even see on a on a on
- 23:20Speaker 1: a college soccer level. I don't watch a lot of
- 23:21Speaker 1: college soccer, but I mean, it just looked so amateur
- 23:26Speaker 1: that particular play. And after that the game was over.
- 23:30Speaker 1: The game was absolutely over. That was a second goal, actually.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Right, bo, No, that was a third goal. So that
- 23:38Speaker 2: was the third goal. Yeah, in the second half of your.
- 23:41Speaker 1: For the fourth goal was the okay, yeah, I'm gonna dagger.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, okay yo. I mean,
- 23:48Speaker 1: come on, man, Like, I just it's very frustrating. Now.
- 23:52Speaker 1: There's a lot of reasons. The whole fourth sport thing
- 23:54Speaker 1: is one thing. The whole way that we treat youth
- 23:57Speaker 1: soccer in this country, and especially our best players, and
- 24:01Speaker 1: how we make them come out of pocket crazy money
- 24:05Speaker 1: and therefore eliminate so many players who possibly could ascend
- 24:10Speaker 1: to greatness, and how even when they go to another
- 24:13Speaker 1: country and they you know, they get a transfer fee
- 24:17Speaker 1: from one club to another club over in Europe, that
- 24:20Speaker 1: money chickles down all the way to the youth teams
- 24:21Speaker 1: that they were playing. They say, you get like one
- 24:23Speaker 1: I've read something earlier. I said, if you get one
- 24:25Speaker 1: kid to the pros from your youth team, it pays
- 24:30Speaker 1: for like another ten twenty thirty years of being able
- 24:35Speaker 1: to run that youth team moving forward. We don't do that.
- 24:39Speaker 1: We try to do that recently, and they couldn't find that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: They couldn't produce the youth records to be able to
- 24:43Speaker 1: even do that. So clearly they're just light years ahead
- 24:47Speaker 1: of how they teach and grow the game in all
- 24:50Speaker 1: these other countries who clearly are much more invested in
- 24:53Speaker 1: it than we are. As somebody who has been involved
- 24:57Speaker 1: with say youth soccer here, which at believe it or not,
- 25:03Speaker 1: the MLS, like your local MLS team or MLS teams,
- 25:06Speaker 1: they do. It all trickles down from them, and they
- 25:08Speaker 1: do like change certain rules. I remember my kids are
- 25:12Speaker 1: in soccer at a time in the US where they
- 25:13Speaker 1: started making the kids play on smaller fields with smaller
- 25:17Speaker 1: goals because they were like, that's the European whether they
- 25:20Speaker 1: do it, it makes them control the ball, pass the
- 25:22Speaker 1: ball more, and understand the game as opposed to just
- 25:24Speaker 1: like one kid who's like bigger and stronger than everybody
- 25:26Speaker 1: just taking the ball and running down the field. That
- 25:29Speaker 1: was like, that makes sense. It annoyed me at the
- 25:32Speaker 1: time because I had a kid. One of my kids
- 25:34Speaker 1: is the one who has taking the ball and runs
- 25:36Speaker 1: straight down the field. But all of a sudden it
- 25:39Speaker 1: changed and I was like, but you know what, that
- 25:40Speaker 1: makes sense. They're trying to develop the game. But if
- 25:42Speaker 1: you look at something like literally here, which I'm very
- 25:44Speaker 1: involved with, it is so dialed in and you could
- 25:48Speaker 1: tell it's clear why we're producing baseball players in this
- 25:51Speaker 1: country because we have a system from the time that
- 25:55Speaker 1: they're little kids that funnels them to eventually hopefully the
- 25:59Speaker 1: major leagues. Now again, we have multiple sports here that
- 26:06Speaker 1: we enjoy. So therefore, you know, a place like Dominican Republic,
- 26:10Speaker 1: where baseball is by far king even though they have
- 26:13Speaker 1: a tiny mini school percentage of the overall population, they
- 26:17Speaker 1: can still produce, you know, the amount of major league
- 26:21Speaker 1: talent that they can. Obviously, Japan very good at it
- 26:24Speaker 1: as well. But the whole soccer thing, it just seems
- 26:28Speaker 1: systematically from the things that I read from people that
- 26:31Speaker 1: are much smarter than me, we are just way behind
- 26:33Speaker 1: the eight ball on that. And that's something that if
- 26:36Speaker 1: we want to be able to catch up and we
- 26:37Speaker 1: want to be able to compete on the national stage,
- 26:39Speaker 1: we're gonna have to change. But we also need our
- 26:43Speaker 1: players that are supposed to be our best players to
- 26:45Speaker 1: step up and be good. Plistic socks, he's not that good.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Everybody keeps telling me how good this is. And there's
- 26:54Speaker 1: times where you watch games and you're like, Okay, I
- 26:55Speaker 1: see you know when he the game that he got
- 26:59Speaker 1: subbed in to, uh, the game that we lost, the
- 27:02Speaker 1: last game in the in the round robin what what
- 27:08Speaker 1: they don't call it round robin whatever?
- 27:09Speaker 2: The group stage, Yeah, last game of the group stage.
- 27:13Speaker 1: You saw that he ticked up the play a little bit.
- 27:16Speaker 1: You know, you can see it. You can see what
- 27:17Speaker 1: he was given. And again, I am a soccer novice.
- 27:20Speaker 1: So if you're looking for like in depth, like great
- 27:22Speaker 1: soccer analysis here with you on the wrong spot, skip
- 27:27Speaker 1: forward to the next segment. But uh, palistic man, he's
- 27:30Speaker 1: just not that good, yo, Like he don't you watch
- 27:34Speaker 1: some of these other players on other teams who are
- 27:36Speaker 1: but the other players that wear number ten on their team,
- 27:39Speaker 1: they control the game. You don't get that number ten lightly.
- 27:44Speaker 1: That's Pele's number, all right. So if you gonna wear
- 27:46Speaker 1: Pele's number, you look around whenever you see the other
- 27:49Speaker 1: guy on the team who wears number ten. That motherfucker
- 27:52Speaker 1: controls the game. He makes an impact on the game,
- 27:56Speaker 1: the impop base, the messies. I know who Belgium's number
- 28:01Speaker 1: ten was, but yesterday he I was like, that's a
- 28:03Speaker 1: number ten right there. The way he's handling this game,
- 28:05Speaker 1: like he forget the fuck his name is, but he's
- 28:07Speaker 1: a number ten. Palistic is not a number ten. That
- 28:13Speaker 1: shit is sacred and he shouldn't wear it for this
- 28:16Speaker 1: team because you know he obviously he's dealt with a
- 28:19Speaker 1: bunch of injuries in his career. But I don't know
- 28:21Speaker 1: if yesterday was an injury. It was a fucking cop out,
- 28:23Speaker 1: to be honest with you, It kind of felt that way.
- 28:25Speaker 1: But I'm not gonna I'm not gonna put that on him.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I'm not gonna put that on it. But he's just
- 28:30Speaker 1: not that good. He's overrated. And you know, when your
- 28:36Speaker 1: best player it plays like that, you're gonna have a
- 28:39Speaker 1: tough time. It's gonna be really tough for you to
- 28:42Speaker 1: be able to perform on this stage. And as the
- 28:45Speaker 1: tournament went on, you know, you saw the US play
- 28:50Speaker 1: different skill levels, and in this particular match, you saw
- 28:55Speaker 1: a team that is one of those one of them
- 28:57Speaker 1: big time European teams. All their dudes play in the
- 29:01Speaker 1: big time European leagues and all of their youth is
- 29:06Speaker 1: being going out and finding those diamonds in the rough
- 29:09Speaker 1: and making the most out of them. We're not doing
- 29:11Speaker 1: that here, and it clearly shows very very it's very
- 29:17Speaker 1: very disappointing man to watch that. I was so topped
- 29:19Speaker 1: up for it, I mean, and it was just I
- 29:21Speaker 1: think I saw a stat where Polistic gave it up
- 29:23Speaker 1: fourteen times fourteen. That's crazy. The defense was a joke.
- 29:31Speaker 1: The defense would be in the right position. They had
- 29:33Speaker 1: two of The commentator broke it down, he said, we
- 29:35Speaker 1: got two on the ball right here. One of you
- 29:37Speaker 1: has to go be aggressive instead, y'all both kind of
- 29:39Speaker 1: just like stay back in no man's land. You're on
- 29:41Speaker 1: the same line, so you allow him to make the
- 29:44Speaker 1: crosser that bends right in front, and then you got
- 29:47Speaker 1: that big blonde kid from Belgium where he's got one
- 29:50Speaker 1: in front and one of the back. He shoves a
- 29:52Speaker 1: ring to the ground and just heads it right in.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I mean again, we had good position on him too,
- 29:57Speaker 1: but everybody was kind of just on their back foot.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Everybody got kind of caught looking and we just weren't
- 30:02Speaker 1: on it, man, And it was very, very disappointing to me. Yeah,
- 30:07Speaker 1: Reem was it was. He was in the middle of
- 30:08Speaker 1: everything that that that went bad. Like I said, freeze
- 30:13Speaker 1: that that that play that from him? You know where
- 30:17Speaker 1: bo Do you think that he was trying to like
- 30:19Speaker 1: check it and then he was going to make another
- 30:21Speaker 1: like little kick or do you think he just got
- 30:22Speaker 1: his cleat stuck on that play.
- 30:24Speaker 2: I think he got his cleet stock to be honest.
- 30:26Speaker 2: But uh as my boy fish Oh it says in
- 30:30Speaker 2: his Golden Rules of Sports, if you're a goalie never
- 30:32Speaker 2: played the ball of the puck also number ten on Belgium,
- 30:37Speaker 2: that is Leandro Trussard. Never heard of him.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Admittedly he was he was he was was controlling, He
- 30:45Speaker 1: was controlling in the middle of the field.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he was, and Polisic's first five pass attempts all
- 30:50Speaker 2: resulted in turnovers.
- 30:52Speaker 1: The fuck that can't start around to sixteen like that, Christian?
- 30:59Speaker 1: Come on man, it's tough on Yo, it's tough one
- 31:04Speaker 1: and uh yeah. So leading up to the game, US
- 31:10Speaker 1: is Best striker Balligan was suspended for the game due
- 31:15Speaker 1: to a red card. You know, I talked about last episode,
- 31:18Speaker 1: thought that was bullshit, but the way it was explained
- 31:21Speaker 1: to me was that we're not able to even appeal that.
- 31:24Speaker 1: So that's what it was. And then on Sunday, the
- 31:28Speaker 1: eve of the game comes out that the red card
- 31:32Speaker 1: has been suspended. So they're basically they're saying, like, we'll
- 31:34Speaker 1: talk about Wow, I just watched it. I just sorry.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I just saw my guy from Switzerland airmail a PK
- 31:43Speaker 1: like many feet over the top of the net. I mean,
- 31:45Speaker 1: come on, bro, you don't even get yourself a chance.
- 31:47Speaker 1: But uh dude, this is like a legit soccer podcast
- 31:51Speaker 1: right now. We might I might have to rebrand. Yo.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I've thought you know what, you know what I've thought about.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I've thought about do I want to like find it
- 32:00Speaker 1: tam and be like, Okay, this is my team and
- 32:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna root for them, and and you know what,
- 32:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna tease it. I'm gonna tease it because I'm good.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I'm a finished talking about the US, but I'm gonna
- 32:07Speaker 1: tease it. I have an idea of who I'm going
- 32:09Speaker 1: to choose and why. But anyway, okay, definitely bring up later, Okay, okay, Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I don't know if I got much time to add
- 32:17Speaker 1: to anything. And also, uh, some of the stuff, some
- 32:19Speaker 1: of the stuff I've seen in this tournament, I don't
- 32:21Speaker 1: know if I could invest into this sport because I
- 32:23Speaker 1: think I would literally fucking break my TV with some
- 32:25Speaker 1: of the ship I've seen. You know pks this year. No, No,
- 32:29Speaker 1: PK is a sure fucking thing. Wow, they're not. What
- 32:31Speaker 1: is it right now? Two? Two? Okay? All right? Two
- 32:35Speaker 1: to two? Two to two? Well we'll see, we'll see.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Yeah, like Switzerland's about the bat in the bottom of
- 32:41Speaker 2: the fourth here.
- 32:41Speaker 1: There you go, there you go. Let's see. That's that's
- 32:43Speaker 1: a good way to explain it for me to understand it.
- 32:47Speaker 1: But yeah, but your boy, uh, your boy, your boy polistic.
- 32:50Speaker 1: He spit the bit for sure. But before he even
- 32:54Speaker 1: got a chance, we get the news the ball again
- 32:57Speaker 1: is playing. It's been suspended. I don't know what that means, means,
- 33:00Speaker 1: we'll deal with it later. I don't know. A few
- 33:04Speaker 1: things to be said here, First and foremost, let's not
- 33:07Speaker 1: act like Phoeba's squeaky clean. Okay, So the fact that
- 33:10Speaker 1: Foeba's involved in something shady is not in the least
- 33:13Speaker 1: bit surprising to anybody who follows sports. But it seems
- 33:19Speaker 1: that the White House and President Trump, which he later confirmed,
- 33:25Speaker 1: they made a plea to Foeba. They went and got
- 33:31Speaker 1: like a whole legal team, and basically what they argue
- 33:37Speaker 1: is that the process of using VAAR and looking at
- 33:42Speaker 1: the play in slow motion is not correct. So therefore
- 33:45Speaker 1: the red card should never ever have been issued. Everything
- 33:50Speaker 1: that I read says that that's bullshit. You cannot argue that.
- 33:53Speaker 1: But they were able to argue it, and our best
- 33:57Speaker 1: striker he's playing. And my first initial reaction to that
- 34:00Speaker 1: was like, all right, fuck it, let's go like you know,
- 34:02Speaker 1: I you know what I even said to my wife
- 34:04Speaker 1: that day, I said, as much as with even with
- 34:09Speaker 1: the way that I feel about our current administration, there's
- 34:12Speaker 1: certain things that he does that if it was like
- 34:14Speaker 1: if he could just keep it somewhat cool and not
- 34:17Speaker 1: just be so inflammatory. In other ways, there would be
- 34:20Speaker 1: stuff like this where it would kind of have you
- 34:22Speaker 1: being on this guy's side. Cause listen, at the end
- 34:24Speaker 1: of the day, I like my team. I want my
- 34:26Speaker 1: team to win. So if you can go out, you
- 34:27Speaker 1: can fucking flex your muscle and you can make it
- 34:29Speaker 1: and give us an advantage, give us, give us even
- 34:32Speaker 1: just the ability to form a full team in this scenario,
- 34:35Speaker 1: in this big of a game. I'm with it, man.
- 34:40Speaker 1: When I started really looking at some of the some
- 34:42Speaker 1: of the backlash from this, the the coach of Belgium
- 34:49Speaker 1: and the all not just that like all the European countries,
- 34:55Speaker 1: you know, talking to people I know saying that they
- 34:57Speaker 1: work with a bunch of European dudes and they're all
- 34:59Speaker 1: pissed off. Even talking to a couple of people I
- 35:02Speaker 1: know who are like big time soccer fans even though
- 35:05Speaker 1: they're from the US, they root for the US and
- 35:06Speaker 1: they're just like, dude, this is this is kind of crazy,
- 35:09Speaker 1: like that this is going down this way. The statement
- 35:11Speaker 1: from Yuefa, it just, you know, it just seems like
- 35:16Speaker 1: there's one another time where you see that everything that
- 35:21Speaker 1: this guy touches goes to ship the only Knicks. The
- 35:25Speaker 1: only game that the Knicks lost in the finals after
- 35:29Speaker 1: the first three games was Game four, when a certain
- 35:36Speaker 1: somebody was in the building and the entire oh we
- 35:44Speaker 1: got Switzerland one.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Okay, switch the one on the final kick.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Good.
- 35:50Speaker 2: You're also talking about Game three is the only game
- 35:52Speaker 2: the next lost in that series, because you you have
- 35:54Speaker 2: the shirt of how game four ended. If I can
- 35:55Speaker 2: remember correctly.
- 35:57Speaker 1: See you see my guy always keeping me in line.
- 36:00Speaker 1: So yes, game three, the only game that we lost
- 36:03Speaker 1: since Game three of the first round was the one
- 36:07Speaker 1: where certain someone was in attendance, and therefore, to quote
- 36:10Speaker 1: Landry Shammitt, it didn't even feel like a home game.
- 36:13Speaker 1: The Nick's entire routine was thrown off. And it's just like,
- 36:18Speaker 1: once again, you give us a reason to be ridiculed
- 36:24Speaker 1: on the national stage. And you see the video of
- 36:31Speaker 1: you know, you see the video of all the Gosh
- 36:33Speaker 1: from Belgium and the the do and the dance. They're
- 36:36Speaker 1: all doing the dance in the in the locker room.
- 36:38Speaker 1: They're mocking him essentially. And you know, our reputation as Americans,
- 36:45Speaker 1: many people will tell you that because of previous leaders.
- 36:49Speaker 1: We come off a week and I would tell you
- 36:53Speaker 1: that we've never ever come off quite like we do
- 36:59Speaker 1: right now. And it's not good. It's not powerful, it's
- 37:01Speaker 1: not strong. People aren't scared, they're they're they're they're laughing
- 37:05Speaker 1: at us, they're ridiculing us. And my thing is that
- 37:10Speaker 1: my initial thought was like, Yo, this works out for us,
- 37:12Speaker 1: So I'm with it. But when I really take a
- 37:13Speaker 1: step back and I look at it, I say to myself,
- 37:16Speaker 1: do I really want like the Commander in chief even
- 37:19Speaker 1: worried about this? For real? Listen, if you're a big
- 37:24Speaker 1: sports fan, you want to make a call. He not
- 37:26Speaker 1: really into soccer. Okay, I'm not either though, but if
- 37:30Speaker 1: you want to make a call, but getting a whole
- 37:32Speaker 1: legal team together, that is resources and tax dollars at work.
- 37:37Speaker 1: And I'm sorry, but vibes matter, they do, especially in sports.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Vibes matter. And at the end of the day, I
- 37:50Speaker 1: see so many people so angry with like a speech
- 37:55Speaker 1: that say, Momdami made where he talked about some of
- 37:58Speaker 1: the different things that you know, he wants to see
- 38:01Speaker 1: continue to improve in this country. And there's so many
- 38:04Speaker 1: people who I you know, see on Facebook or Twitter
- 38:08Speaker 1: or wherever talking about how well, if you all love
- 38:10Speaker 1: this country, then pup uah bah do this, do that that?
- 38:12Speaker 1: Da dah. I know, But Okay, at the end of
- 38:17Speaker 1: the day, when you want to talk about how this
- 38:21Speaker 1: country is perceived, I think we all need to take
- 38:25Speaker 1: a second and get ourselves out of our own patriotic
- 38:29Speaker 1: hubris and stop and look at the rest of the
- 38:31Speaker 1: world and how they perceive us, and how and how
- 38:35Speaker 1: much they think that we're supposedly the great power that
- 38:38Speaker 1: we all believe we are. I love this country. I
- 38:41Speaker 1: got a lot of pride in it. I do think
- 38:43Speaker 1: that it's got its it's got its faults, and I
- 38:47Speaker 1: think it's okay to bring those things up. And I
- 38:50Speaker 1: think that this country is built on the freedom of
- 38:53Speaker 1: speech to be able to do that. And so many
- 38:57Speaker 1: people that will scream freedom of speech when it benefits them,
- 39:04Speaker 1: want to take away somebody else's when it makes them
- 39:07Speaker 1: think about things that they're uncomfortable about. I think it's
- 39:12Speaker 1: got to go both ways. Argentina versus Egypt earlier today, Wow,
- 39:20Speaker 1: what a soccer match. I mean, you know, England versus Mexico.
- 39:24Speaker 1: That was the best match of the tournament. Many people said,
- 39:28Speaker 1: I think this one takes the cake. It was a
- 39:33Speaker 1: little slow to start, but then Egypt struck early. They're
- 39:39Speaker 1: up one to zero. They're packing in the defense, occasionally
- 39:43Speaker 1: taking their runs. Argentina's not really producing any strong chances,
- 39:49Speaker 1: and then Egypt goes the length of the field, multiple
- 39:54Speaker 1: great passes Salah with the last just brilliant touch which
- 39:58Speaker 1: ends up in the goal. I was watching it with
- 40:01Speaker 1: my son. We're both like, wow, I mean, just just
- 40:03Speaker 1: blown away by just how beautiful of a play that
- 40:06Speaker 1: was not so fast. They need to go look at
- 40:14Speaker 1: it on the var and there's a play that happens
- 40:17Speaker 1: in the opposite box with a referee right there in
- 40:21Speaker 1: front of them. That's not called a foul, and so
- 40:25Speaker 1: that goal is now disallowed after all that beautiful shit
- 40:28Speaker 1: that we just saw. That's fucking ridiculous, you know, I mean,
- 40:33Speaker 1: come on, man, like I get it, I get it.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I get so at the end of the day, they say,
- 40:37Speaker 1: when it comes to video, you just want to get
- 40:39Speaker 1: it right fair, And I do feel that way most
- 40:42Speaker 1: of the time. But there has to be like a
- 40:45Speaker 1: statue of limitations on that. We can't go back all
- 40:48Speaker 1: the way down to the other opposite end of the field,
- 40:52Speaker 1: and that play that the ref makes a judgment call
- 40:55Speaker 1: right there, that that doesn't get called, and so all
- 40:58Speaker 1: that after that happens where doesn't exist. That's crazy to me.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I don't agree with that, man. It's just it's just
- 41:07Speaker 1: not the spirit of sport. I don't. I think there
- 41:10Speaker 1: needs to be First of all, I think there needs
- 41:11Speaker 1: to be more officials, more referees on the field in soccer.
- 41:14Speaker 1: That one guy running around and he's supposed to make
- 41:17Speaker 1: every fucking call. You got the guys on the side
- 41:19Speaker 1: that are calling making some calls, and then some other
- 41:22Speaker 1: guys call off sides. I don't know who fucking calls what,
- 41:24Speaker 1: but it seems like there's one guy who's making all
- 41:25Speaker 1: the calls, and it's it's ridiculous. The variance is too much.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Like there's certain things that you see there where, And
- 41:33Speaker 1: I guess obviously there's gonna be levels when it comes
- 41:35Speaker 1: to who fouls who and shit like that, right, and
- 41:37Speaker 1: that's a that's always gonna be a judgment call. But
- 41:40Speaker 1: certain things like Okay, we both think the ball went
- 41:42Speaker 1: out of bound on us, the ref says no, it's
- 41:45Speaker 1: going this way. So the guy who is annoyed the
- 41:48Speaker 1: ball didn't go out of bounds on him. He kicks
- 41:50Speaker 1: the ball away, so the other guy who now who
- 41:52Speaker 1: is about to inbot has to go run and get
- 41:54Speaker 1: it and then throw it in Like no, that's both
- 41:56Speaker 1: like shit like that. There should be no variance on
- 41:58Speaker 1: and other sports. And that's just a straight up fucking
- 42:02Speaker 1: delay a game, Like, no, you can't do that. And
- 42:04Speaker 1: so I get it with the fouls part, but there's
- 42:07Speaker 1: little times within the game where it's like guys can
- 42:09Speaker 1: just decide to be an asshole and do some dirty
- 42:12Speaker 1: shit or do some just like some dumb, grimy shit,
- 42:16Speaker 1: and it's just like the ref has to basically make
- 42:19Speaker 1: a judgment call on not whether or not that's illegal,
- 42:21Speaker 1: but how much did it affect the game or to
- 42:24Speaker 1: what levels of an asshole were you? It's too much,
- 42:26Speaker 1: it's too hard, makes it so hard to watch, honestly, Like, yeah,
- 42:31Speaker 1: like if I was an egypt fan I would have
- 42:32Speaker 1: such a fucking salty taste in my mouth after that
- 42:35Speaker 1: after watching that and how it played out, and the
- 42:38Speaker 1: fact that just like you know, all right, well you know, sorry,
- 42:44Speaker 1: but that was cool. I know, that was like the
- 42:46Speaker 1: most exciting moment in soccer that your country has ever had,
- 42:54Speaker 1: but now run it back didn't exist. It's too much man, Bom,
- 42:58Speaker 1: what did you think of that? Did you think of that?
- 43:00Speaker 1: That that that goal being disallowed horrible?
- 43:03Speaker 2: I mean, you can't It's like you said, you can't
- 43:06Speaker 2: call something like that back and to play that happened
- 43:08Speaker 2: at the other end of the field like that was
- 43:10Speaker 2: just so utterly ridiculous. It was, you know, And it's
- 43:14Speaker 2: like you also said earlier, it's not like FIFA has
- 43:17Speaker 2: never been involved in anything shady and they're a totally
- 43:19Speaker 2: you know, totally full of integrity organization here, so you
- 43:22Speaker 2: can't help but think someone was up and I don't
- 43:25Speaker 2: really like to be that guy, but it felt that way.
- 43:28Speaker 1: And you know, a lot of these controversial calls have
- 43:31Speaker 1: not necessarily gone the African team's way. I don't know,
- 43:36Speaker 1: take from that what you will. I don't know enough
- 43:40Speaker 1: about it to make like, you know, strong claims either way,
- 43:43Speaker 1: but it's it's it's I'm just stating the fact and overall,
- 43:49Speaker 1: just you know, wow, what a game. I mean that
- 43:51Speaker 1: that comeback by Argentina, for them to storm back the
- 43:55Speaker 1: way that they did down to nil, should have been
- 43:59Speaker 1: down three nil, but I'm two nail and like I said,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I'm not pulling for Egypt after that ball gets disallowed
- 44:07Speaker 1: because I'm like, this is bullshit. And I have I
- 44:10Speaker 1: have I I have friends who have parents from each
- 44:13Speaker 1: country that I know fairly well, and I was thinking
- 44:16Speaker 1: about both of them as the game was going on.
- 44:18Speaker 1: I was communicating with my boy Chad, whose dad is Egyptian,
- 44:21Speaker 1: throughout the game, and he was definitely hyped up. And
- 44:23Speaker 1: you know, obviously at the end he was a little
- 44:26Speaker 1: bit crestfallen because Argentina comes and stay storm back and
- 44:31Speaker 1: they score three goals and what feels like the blink
- 44:34Speaker 1: of an eye that right there was Game three of
- 44:38Speaker 1: the Finals twenty eight to three in the Super Bowl.
- 44:43Speaker 1: It was that type of shit where it looked like
- 44:45Speaker 1: you were dead. And I know that there was a
- 44:49Speaker 1: match where you know, the comeback happened in the last
- 44:54Speaker 1: like you know, a few minutes that was against that
- 44:57Speaker 1: was that happened to Ivory Coasts.
- 45:00Speaker 2: No, I was Belgium and Senegal last week, two goals
- 45:04Speaker 2: in the final five.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Minutes, and then what happened with England and and and
- 45:09Speaker 1: Ivory Coast. That was crazy England came back crazy on
- 45:12Speaker 1: him too at the end.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Right, No, England didn't have a comeback. They even't had
- 45:16Speaker 2: they have not had to do that.
- 45:17Speaker 1: You're thinking about Harry. It was it was.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Kane late games, it was a one it was a
- 45:23Speaker 2: one goal deficit and he had to score a late
- 45:24Speaker 2: game time, game time goal.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Okay, okay, yeah, man, It's just it's uh, it's tough,
- 45:33Speaker 1: man I. You know, I feel for the Egyptian fans specifically,
- 45:37Speaker 1: just because you know, it was they were on the
- 45:40Speaker 1: cusp of having such a huge upset and then obviously
- 45:43Speaker 1: it doesn't go their way. Their keeper Mustafa I think
- 45:47Speaker 1: his name is his last name is like Shai or
- 45:49Speaker 1: something like that. He was great, just absolutely fantastic throughout
- 45:52Speaker 1: the entire match. Obviously it wasn't quite enough. And then
- 45:56Speaker 1: Messi man, I mean, come on, he's clearly the goat.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I don't even think that that can be even talked
- 46:04Speaker 1: about at this point. And when you do talk about him,
- 46:08Speaker 1: it's him or Maradonna or it's Pele Ronaldo. I'm sorry
- 46:13Speaker 1: you're on the outside of that conversation now, you know
- 46:17Speaker 1: that it's it's some of it's some of it's him.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Some of it's not his fault. Some of it you
- 46:21Speaker 1: watch his team play. They do not just feature him
- 46:23Speaker 1: and feed him like the Argentine team does Messy. And
- 46:31Speaker 1: I also thought that in this match, an interesting thing was,
- 46:34Speaker 1: you know, because all these guys flop. It's a huge
- 46:36Speaker 1: part of the game. Everybody's falling to the ground, holding
- 46:39Speaker 1: onto their leg forever, trying to get a call or
- 46:41Speaker 1: at least trying to get like some favor for the
- 46:43Speaker 1: next call. I guess maybe because sometimes play continues and
- 46:48Speaker 1: there's no call coming, but they still do that. I
- 46:50Speaker 1: noticed that, you know, that play right after, right after
- 46:54Speaker 1: the the the final goal was scored by Argentina off
- 47:02Speaker 1: the header beautiful setup from Messi. Right after that final
- 47:07Speaker 1: goal was scored, you immediately saw Salah, who is I mean,
- 47:12Speaker 1: he's a top ten player, big name place for Egypt.
- 47:15Speaker 1: You saw him running up to the ref and talking
- 47:18Speaker 1: and the the goalie gun musta. He was doing the
- 47:22Speaker 1: little you know thing, and then when they show the play,
- 47:26Speaker 1: he basically just falls down in the box trying to
- 47:29Speaker 1: get a call and they go running the other way
- 47:32Speaker 1: with the counter and they score. That is a point.
- 47:35Speaker 1: That's a time where the flop costs you. You were
- 47:38Speaker 1: trying to flop, you were trying to get uh p
- 47:40Speaker 1: K and then you're complaining about it afterwards. But when
- 47:43Speaker 1: we go and we look at it and we slow
- 47:44Speaker 1: it down, it's not like the previous call where there's
- 47:48Speaker 1: something there that they can call. This one. You look
- 47:51Speaker 1: at it very clearly. He just falls to the ground.
- 47:53Speaker 1: He doesn't trip, no one trips him. He just falls.
- 47:56Speaker 1: And then we see the counter fly down the other
- 47:58Speaker 1: way and the goal. That flopping shit, that's what it
- 48:01Speaker 1: will get you. But I did notice one thing I
- 48:06Speaker 1: saw today was that, you know, Brunston got a surgical
- 48:09Speaker 1: procedure today on that wrist, but he was tweeting about
- 48:11Speaker 1: the game and everything. So you know, he's good. He's
- 48:14Speaker 1: he's chilling. He's at home. Like I said, rust up JB.
- 48:18Speaker 1: But this this World Cup has been it's been enthralling,
- 48:21Speaker 1: to say the least. It's been great. I wish that
- 48:23Speaker 1: the US was more involved, you know, I mean all
- 48:27Speaker 1: the big big guys are are are showing up. You
- 48:29Speaker 1: have Messi as we've talked about, you have Impape doing
- 48:34Speaker 1: his thing, Harry Kane doing his thing, and then you
- 48:36Speaker 1: have this guy Holland. Who I mean, this dude is
- 48:39Speaker 1: out of Viking Central Casting. The guy's fucking awesome. He
- 48:43Speaker 1: you know, he plays for Norway. You know, I read
- 48:46Speaker 1: today that there's more Norwegian people of Norwegian descent in
- 48:49Speaker 1: the United States than there is in Norway, which I
- 48:52Speaker 1: found that crazy. I've learned a lot about Norway. Here's
- 48:54Speaker 1: last few days. I get like five weeks off. You know,
- 48:56Speaker 1: they have great healthcare and all that shit, all those
- 48:58Speaker 1: uh you know those those all those little countries right
- 49:03Speaker 1: in that area, those Slavic countries are no, that's not Slavic,
- 49:05Speaker 1: I should say Scandinavian countries. I got you, I got there,
- 49:10Speaker 1: I got there. But all those yeah, all those Scandinavian countries,
- 49:14Speaker 1: they seem to just be enjoying life, doing things right.
- 49:19Speaker 1: And this guy Holland, dude, I fucking love watching him play.
- 49:23Speaker 1: He just you know, he just kind of creeps around.
- 49:26Speaker 1: He's in the spot. And then now I don't have
- 49:30Speaker 1: a ton of soccer in my algorithm, but it's it's
- 49:32Speaker 1: creeping in. And I saw in these last couple of
- 49:34Speaker 1: days them talking about I've seen a couple of videos
- 49:38Speaker 1: of like just what a nice guy this guy is
- 49:40Speaker 1: like it seems like Holland is the nicest guy ever.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Like when it comes to dealing with the fans, MESSI too,
- 49:44Speaker 1: very good at dealing with the fan and ship like that.
- 49:46Speaker 1: But Holland, he seems like he's great when it comes
- 49:48Speaker 1: to the fans. Seems like he's a great dude. When
- 49:51Speaker 1: it comes to like the he's helping the equipment manager
- 49:53Speaker 1: and shit, everybody's just throwing their ship. He's like picking
- 49:55Speaker 1: it up and giving it to him nicely. You know,
- 49:58Speaker 1: he's dating like a girl he played youth soccer with.
- 50:00Speaker 1: You know, come on, man, I love this guy. He's
- 50:02Speaker 1: sucking great. You know, brunts and shouted him out. You know,
- 50:06Speaker 1: game recognized game. I love that too. Uh. He was
- 50:08Speaker 1: at that match a couple of days ago and they're
- 50:11Speaker 1: gonna be playing up against England. Uh. Definitely rooting for
- 50:15Speaker 1: this guy Holland, just because he's cool. He's he's like
- 50:19Speaker 1: he's a he's visually somebody that is fun to watch
- 50:23Speaker 1: on the pitch. The way that he moves around and
- 50:25Speaker 1: the way that he sees is the moment and then
- 50:27Speaker 1: I mean that header was awesome and then he parks
- 50:29Speaker 1: the one in the corner. It just I mean, just
- 50:32Speaker 1: come on, man, this guy's the coolest fucking guy in
- 50:33Speaker 1: the world. He looks like he's straight out of like
- 50:35Speaker 1: casting for a villain in an eighties movie. And I'm
- 50:40Speaker 1: looking forward to seeing just you know, how this all
- 50:43Speaker 1: ends up playing out, and especially you know which one
- 50:45Speaker 1: of these great players continues to rise to the top.
- 50:48Speaker 1: And uh yeah, like I was selling saying to you
- 50:51Speaker 1: before bomb, I went and I looked up the uh
- 50:54Speaker 1: I went and looked up the overall, the overall roster.
- 50:59Speaker 1: They got the requisite couple West Africans that I need
- 51:02Speaker 1: to be on the team for me to get really
- 51:03Speaker 1: kipt behind them, and they got my guy, Holland I think,
- 51:06Speaker 1: I I think, uh here moving forward, I'm gonna I'm
- 51:09Speaker 1: a Manchester City fan.
- 51:12Speaker 2: It was I was a pretty epict teaser. I like that.
- 51:14Speaker 2: But yeah, I watched the you Gotta watch the Netflix
- 51:16Speaker 2: dock You series on them for a couple of years
- 51:17Speaker 2: ago with him too, because it was great.
- 51:19Speaker 1: He's in it. Yeah, yeah, they do team. It's pretty okay. Well,
- 51:24Speaker 1: first of all, I mean, I'm gonna watch that. I
- 51:25Speaker 1: didn't I didn't even know this existed. I'm gonna watch
- 51:27Speaker 1: that and I can already tell you that I'm gonna
- 51:29Speaker 1: become a huge fan of the team. I'm gonna watch
- 51:30Speaker 1: it with my son, because that's how, you know, you
- 51:33Speaker 1: one one little documentary, like I always always in the
- 51:36Speaker 1: off season when the Jets do Jet one Jets Drive,
- 51:41Speaker 1: which is basically it's like like it's Hard Knocks level production,
- 51:47Speaker 1: but it's just on the Jets. They do it or
- 51:48Speaker 1: in the off season and during the training camp, and
- 51:50Speaker 1: then they do it during the season too, And then
- 51:53Speaker 1: the Knicks have this thing called Hustled Don't Stop, and
- 51:56Speaker 1: you know, they do some stuff personally about the guys
- 51:59Speaker 1: and you know of them. You know, they learn about
- 52:01Speaker 1: their families and ship and people trying to make the
- 52:02Speaker 1: team and pup up up And I always always always
- 52:05Speaker 1: make sure my my wife watches those things because there's
- 52:08Speaker 1: no easier way to get her invested in the team
- 52:11Speaker 1: than when she sees you know, this dude's wife talking
- 52:13Speaker 1: about dealing with the kids when he's not a rat,
- 52:15Speaker 1: and pup up uh and just like learning about you know,
- 52:18Speaker 1: their stories getting in. Last year they did this thing
- 52:21Speaker 1: where they did like they would take Jets players and
- 52:22Speaker 1: they go like their whole story. The one on Will McDonald.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Ye you know had me in tears, damn there towards
- 52:30Speaker 1: the end. That's the type of ship you ever want
- 52:31Speaker 1: to get your wife into the sport You ever watch
- 52:33Speaker 1: those We're gonna start watching this Manchester City show. You
- 52:37Speaker 1: know this, this little thing about this Uh, there's this
- 52:39Speaker 1: documentary in their season from a couple of years ago,
- 52:41Speaker 1: and we're all in.
- 52:42Speaker 2: Holly when they won the the Digs, when they won
- 52:44Speaker 2: the entire when they won the travel too, so they
- 52:46Speaker 2: won Premier League, Champions League and the Club World Cop
- 52:51Speaker 2: as well as I was pretty sick, but I wanted
- 52:52Speaker 2: to go back to Holland real quick as well. That
- 52:54Speaker 2: second goal, like that celebration where it was basically just
- 52:57Speaker 2: like he was just look at camera Like was that
- 52:59Speaker 2: one of the most like I'm him celebrations ever?
- 53:03Speaker 1: Yes? Man, that she is fire Yoh I fucking love
- 53:05Speaker 1: this guy. Oh man, Yeah, he's great. Man, He's great.
- 53:12Speaker 1: I'll tell you, I'm all in. I'm all in. That's all.
- 53:14Speaker 1: I want to win it all And that's uh, that's
- 53:16Speaker 1: the that's the guy who uh is gonna be my
- 53:20Speaker 1: favorite soccer player moving forward, because Polistic is clearly not
- 53:23Speaker 1: rooting worth not worth rooting for very unfortunate man bom
- 53:28Speaker 1: That's all. I oh the Mets real quick. I want
- 53:29Speaker 1: to real quick note on the Mets. They did win
- 53:34Speaker 1: a game yesterday with which which featured a Juan Soto
- 53:41Speaker 1: clutch late home run, something that has been very hard
- 53:45Speaker 1: to come by thus far for the New York Mets.
- 53:49Speaker 1: And I just want to say that I really appreciate
- 53:53Speaker 1: the fact that even in this down season, that he's
- 53:55Speaker 1: continuing to not just be a professional, but be an
- 53:57Speaker 1: All Star and play really well, you know, really Other
- 54:00Speaker 1: than the outfield ewing Beinge and Soto and McClain and Weaver,
- 54:11Speaker 1: I think everybody is on the block. Weaver, shit, he
- 54:15Speaker 1: might even be on the block even though he's having
- 54:17Speaker 1: a good season, just because he's pitching so well, he
- 54:20Speaker 1: might be able to bring back something of consequence. It's
- 54:23Speaker 1: gonna be, uh, it's gonna be a tough rest of
- 54:25Speaker 1: the season to get through. Listen, if they go out
- 54:28Speaker 1: and they do some silly shit like win eleven games
- 54:30Speaker 1: in a row, all of a sudden, I'll be talking
- 54:32Speaker 1: about you know, you gotta believe. But I appreciate Soto
- 54:36Speaker 1: for continuing to get it done. And David Stearns. I
- 54:41Speaker 1: just I'm more and more I get more and more
- 54:43Speaker 1: disgusted with the idea that he even thought that, like
- 54:45Speaker 1: letting Pete Alnzo go for nothing was made sense. I mean,
- 54:50Speaker 1: talk about not reading the room. Read the fucking room.
- 54:55Speaker 1: He's the best power hitter in the history of the
- 54:59Speaker 1: French he never misses a game. He's got the second
- 55:03Speaker 1: longest active game streak in the entire MLB. And we
- 55:10Speaker 1: it's not like we didn't even make him an offer.
- 55:14Speaker 1: So that's the thing. My thing is, the question is, okay,
- 55:16Speaker 1: you really didn't want to give him a fifth year
- 55:17Speaker 1: Baltimore did if you were to go out and you
- 55:19Speaker 1: were to say, hey, we we can do four at
- 55:25Speaker 1: this number. But we didn't even make him an offer,
- 55:28Speaker 1: which means that you had absolutely no thought of bringing
- 55:33Speaker 1: him back. And the issue was is that you wanted to,
- 55:36Speaker 1: you know, prevent runs. You wanted a better defense. He's
- 55:39Speaker 1: a better defender than any of our first basemen. You
- 55:46Speaker 1: got Mark Ventils over there, who can't he turns routine
- 55:50Speaker 1: ground balls into an entire vaudeville act. And you have
- 55:57Speaker 1: Polanco who's played four games and who's been off injured,
- 56:01Speaker 1: his entire season. So it's not like you should have
- 56:03Speaker 1: been surprised that he was going to be a guy
- 56:05Speaker 1: who was most likely gonna end up doing multiple il stints,
- 56:11Speaker 1: and you gave up Pete Alonzo with that as your plan.
- 56:15Speaker 1: You you did, That's what you gave what. You disrespected him,
- 56:22Speaker 1: and in my opinion, by doing so, you disrespected the
- 56:25Speaker 1: entire fan base. And I am officially at the point
- 56:28Speaker 1: where I feel like Stearns needs to go boun What
- 56:32Speaker 1: else you got, man? What else is going on? Anything
- 56:33Speaker 1: else before we get out of here?
- 56:35Speaker 2: Nothing exciting.
- 56:36Speaker 1: I did just check some weight.
- 56:38Speaker 2: I did just check Twitter to make sure I didn't
- 56:39Speaker 2: miss anything from Shams, just in case a certain certain
- 56:43Speaker 2: forty one year old basketball player decided to sign somewhere.
- 56:46Speaker 1: He is not not yet, you know, Rich Paul. I
- 56:51Speaker 1: see a lot of people hating on Rich Paul. I
- 56:53Speaker 1: don't understand how you fucking hate on this guy. This
- 56:55Speaker 1: guy went from being his homeboy to being a legitimate
- 56:59Speaker 1: part of the entire conglomerate. And he is obviously somebody
- 57:07Speaker 1: that Bron feels is vital. He's a hell of an agent,
- 57:10Speaker 1: not just for Bron but for his other clients and
- 57:14Speaker 1: I just don't understand some of the hate he gets.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Look the guy, he's somewhat glib. He can talk, so
- 57:20Speaker 1: why wouldn't he have a platform. I don't get it.
- 57:23Speaker 2: They literally tried to make a rule precluding him from
- 57:25Speaker 2: being an agent. That's how good of an agent he is.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Word word yeah, shot to Rich Paul Man, but yeah, man, hey,
- 57:32Speaker 1: she boy independent. Nick definitely hit the like, hit the subscribe,
