SPEAKER_00: And we're back with another episode of Unlocking Huntington Beach.
• 0:05
  SPEAKER_00: What's going on?
• 0:05
SPEAKER_00: My name is Lane Stone, and we have another good one for you today.
• 0:09
SPEAKER_00: And today's episode is all about the Pacific Air Show in Huntington Beach.
• 0:14
SPEAKER_00: Everything you need to know.
• 0:16
SPEAKER_00: Whether you're coming for the first time or you're a seasoned vet, we have you covered.
• 0:21
  SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
• 0:22
SPEAKER_00: So there are air shows, and then there is the Pacific Air Show in Huntington Beach.
• 0:27
SPEAKER_00: This is not a small regional event at a local airport.
• 0:30
SPEAKER_00: This is the largest attended air show in the entire United States, drawing millions of spectators over three days right here on the beach in Surf City USA.
• 0:40
SPEAKER_00: Think military jets, world-class aerobatic teams, the U.S.
• 0:43
SPEAKER_00: Air Force Thunderbirds performing over the Pacific Ocean, and all of it happening with the Huntington Beach Pier as the backdrop.
• 0:50
SPEAKER_00: Again, my name is Lane Stone, and I'm with Unlocking Huntington Beach.
• 0:54
SPEAKER_00: I've been in the city for more than 35 years, and this is truly one of the most spectacular events you can attend anywhere in Southern California.
• 1:02
SPEAKER_00: And it is one of my favorite weekends of the entire year.
• 1:06
SPEAKER_00: But there are things you need to know before you show up about parking, viewing spots, tickets, logistics that will completely determine whether you have an incredible day or a frustrating one.
• 1:17
SPEAKER_00: And I want you to have an incredible day because it's an incredible event.
• 1:21
SPEAKER_00: This is the guide I wish I had the first time I saw the show.
• 1:25
SPEAKER_00: Let me start with the basics because a lot of people don't realize how this event actually works.
• 1:30
SPEAKER_00: The Pacific Air Show has been coming to Huntington Beach every fall since 2016.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_00: It runs for three days Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
• 1:38
  SPEAKER_00: And in 2026, that's October 2nd through October 4th.
• 1:42
  SPEAKER_00: Now, showtime runs approximately from 10 30 a.m.
• 1:45
  SPEAKER_00: to 4 30 p.m.
• 1:46
  SPEAKER_00: each day.
• 1:47
  SPEAKER_00: Gates open at 9 a.m.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_00: Show Center is located along Huntington Beach City Beach between Twin Dolphin Street and Beach Boulevard on Pacific Coast Highway.
• 1:55
SPEAKER_00: That's your anchor point for everything.
• 1:57
SPEAKER_00: Here's the most important thing to understand about this event the beach itself is free.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_00: The Pacific Air Show is a free public event.
• 2:05
SPEAKER_00: You do not need a ticket to watch the planes.
• 2:07
SPEAKER_00: You can show up, find a spot on the sand, and watch the entire show without spending a dollar on admission.
• 2:13
SPEAKER_00: However, and this is where it gets nuanced, the best viewing areas are inside a ticketed zone.
• 2:19
SPEAKER_00: More on that in a minute.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: The short version is free is genuinely good.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_00: Paid is better, and the difference is real enough that it's worth knowing about your options before you decide.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about free viewing first because it's what the majority of attendees, including myself, do, and it can be an excellent experience if you position yourself correctly.
• 2:39
SPEAKER_00: The entire stretch of Huntington City Beach is open to the public during the air show.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_00: The planes perform over the water, which means almost any spot along the beach gives you a view of the sky.
• 2:49
SPEAKER_00: The key is getting there early enough to claim good sand before the crowds fill in.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_00: Now, the closer you are to show center between Twin Dolphin and Beach Boulevard, the better your view of the main performance corridor.
• 3:00
SPEAKER_00: This is where the planes are flying closest to shore, where the commentary is the loudest, and where the energy is the highest.
• 3:07
SPEAKER_00: These spots fill up fast.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_00: If you want to be in this zone on Saturday or Sunday, plan to arrive before 8 a.m., ideally earlier.
• 3:15
SPEAKER_00: If you arrive later, you'll naturally drift north or south along the beach.
• 3:19
SPEAKER_00: Now both directions still give you a legitimate air show experience.
• 3:22
SPEAKER_00: The planes cover a wide stretch of coastline, but you'll miss some of the closer passes and the ground level energy of the show.
• 3:28
SPEAKER_00: One thing the official guide mentions that I want to repeat: there is little to no shade on the beach.
• 3:34
SPEAKER_00: October and HB is still warm.
• 3:36
  SPEAKER_00: We're talking 70s and sometimes low 80s.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_00: So bring a beach umbrella if you need cover, sunscreen, and a hat.
• 3:42
SPEAKER_00: A full day in the October sun without shade will wear you down.
• 3:46
SPEAKER_00: There are also two public tunnels through the ticketed areas that connect PCH to the beachfront.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_00: These exist so non-ticketed guests can access the beach with ease.
• 3:54
SPEAKER_00: Know where they are before you go, it'll save you a long walk around the perimeter.
• 3:59
SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about tickets because this is where a lot of people get confused or end up making a last-minute decision they regret.
• 4:05
SPEAKER_00: And I don't want you to have to overpay either.
• 4:07
SPEAKER_00: The ticketed zone is a defined area on the beach inside show center.
• 4:12
SPEAKER_00: When you buy a ticket, you get access to prime beachfront viewing positions, live commentary from world-class announcers, pilot signing sessions where you can actually meet the performers, a kid zone, STEM exhibits, food and beverage vendors, and official merchandise.
• 4:26
SPEAKER_00: It's a fully built-out event experience inside the fence.
• 4:29
  SPEAKER_00: Ticket pricing for 2026 starts around$30 for a single-day general admission and around$60 for a three-day pass.
• 4:36
  SPEAKER_00: Family passes start around$90.
• 4:38
SPEAKER_00: There are discounted tiers for kids aged 4 to 17, students, seniors, veterans, and people with accessibility needs.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_00: Children three and under get in for free as long as there's a ticketed adult with them.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_00: Premium hospitality options are significantly higher.
• 4:51
SPEAKER_00: VIP experiences with beachfront luxury, catered food, and the best ground level views start around$170 per day.
• 4:58
SPEAKER_00: There's also RV camping directly on the beach for the full weekend, starting at around$3,800, which includes general admission tickets for each day.
• 5:06
SPEAKER_00: My honest take on the tickets: if you're coming with kids, buy tickets.
• 5:09
SPEAKER_00: The kids zone, the pilot signing sessions, and the live commentary make a completely different experience for a family compared to just watching from the free beach.
• 5:18
SPEAKER_00: The signing sessions alone, where your kid can actually meet the pilots up close, are something they will always remember.
• 5:23
SPEAKER_00: If you're coming as an adult who just wants to watch the planes, the free beach is perfect.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_00: But if you've been to the free side and want to level up, the general admission ticket at$30 a day is reasonable for what you get.
• 5:34
SPEAKER_00: One critical note tickets sell out, especially for Saturday.
• 5:37
SPEAKER_00: Don't wait until the week of the show to buy.
• 5:39
SPEAKER_00: Get them at PacificAirshow USA.com as soon as you decide you're going.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about parking.
• 5:45
SPEAKER_00: This is the section that will save you the most time and frustration, so pay attention.
• 5:50
SPEAKER_00: The Pacific Air Show draws millions of people over three days.
• 5:53
SPEAKER_00: Parking near Show Center is extremely limited.
• 5:56
SPEAKER_00: The official guidance from the event itself says to expect significant traffic delays throughout the city and to plan accordingly.
• 6:03
  SPEAKER_00: That's not a warning, it's just the facts.
• 6:06
SPEAKER_00: PCH and the surrounding streets get backed up for miles on peak days, especially Saturday.
• 6:11
  SPEAKER_00: Here's the local playbook.
• 6:13
SPEAKER_00: The best move if you live in HB or nearby is to not drive to the beach at all.
• 6:17
SPEAKER_00: Bike in and use the free surf city bike valet at the Strand.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_00: It runs all three days of the air show specifically to help manage traffic.
• 6:24
SPEAKER_00: You park your bike securely, walk to the show, and avoid the parking situation entirely.
• 6:29
SPEAKER_00: If you're within a few miles of the beach, this is honestly the best option.
• 6:32
SPEAKER_00: If you're driving from further away, get in early.
• 6:35
  SPEAKER_00: Gates open at 9 a.m.
• 6:37
SPEAKER_00: and the show starts at 10 30.
• 6:38
SPEAKER_00: If you're driving, aim to be parked by 8 30.
• 6:41
SPEAKER_00: Hourly parking is available at the Pure Plaza parking lot and the main promenade parking structure on 3rd Street, but these fill up quickly.
• 6:48
SPEAKER_00: Rideshare is also a solid option.
• 6:50
SPEAKER_00: Expect to pay a premium price though.
• 6:52
SPEAKER_00: Uber and Lyft both operate during the event.
• 6:54
SPEAKER_00: The drop-off and pickup zones get congested, but it's still faster than hunting for parking on a Saturday afternoon.
• 7:00
SPEAKER_00: If you're coming from LA or further, consider driving to a less congested area, somewhere on the inland side of the 405.
• 7:06
SPEAKER_00: Park there and then rideshare the last stretch in.
• 7:09
SPEAKER_00: One thing worth knowing: if you're a monthly or yearly pass holder in the downtown parking structures, those passes are not valid during the air show weekend.
• 7:18
  SPEAKER_00: Everybody pays.
• 7:19
SPEAKER_00: And then leaving, plan for a gridlock after the show, which ends at 4 30.
• 7:23
SPEAKER_00: The streets around PCH don't clear quickly.
• 7:26
SPEAKER_00: Either leave a bit before the final act ends to beat the rush, or stay on the beach for 45 to 60 minutes after the show wraps and let the worst of it pass.
• 7:34
SPEAKER_00: Given that the beach is a beautiful place to sit in October, the second option is not a bad one at all.
• 7:39
  SPEAKER_00: Here's what to bring.
• 7:41
SPEAKER_00: Let me give you a practical list because people consistently show up underprepared for this one.
• 7:46
  SPEAKER_00: Sunscreen.
• 7:47
  SPEAKER_00: Non-negotiable.
• 7:48
SPEAKER_00: October and HB will still burn you, especially with a full day of exposure on the sand.
• 7:52
SPEAKER_00: A beach umbrella or a pop-up shade if you need it.
• 7:55
SPEAKER_00: There is no shade on the beach.
• 7:57
SPEAKER_00: The event organizers specifically call this out.
• 7:59
SPEAKER_00: Don't assume it'll be overcast just because it's October.
• 8:02
SPEAKER_00: Even though we've had some severely overcast years in the past.
• 8:05
SPEAKER_00: Ear protection, especially if you're bringing kids, the jets are extremely loud, not uncomfortable from a distance loud.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_00: We're just talking fighter jets at full afterburner over the water.
• 8:15
SPEAKER_00: Kids' ears are a little bit more sensitive, so pack foam earplugs or those earmuffs style protection and actually use them.
• 8:22
  SPEAKER_00: A beach chair or a blanket.
• 8:23
SPEAKER_00: You're going to be on the sand for several hours.
• 8:25
SPEAKER_00: The planes are in the air from 10 30 to 4 30, so bring something comfortable to sit on.
• 8:30
SPEAKER_00: There are food and beverage vendors inside the ticketed zones and vendors on the free beach too, but lines get long and prices are event level.
• 8:37
SPEAKER_00: Bring your own water and some snacks.
• 8:39
SPEAKER_00: Small quantities of personal food are permitted.
• 8:42
  SPEAKER_00: Binoculars are optional.
• 8:44
SPEAKER_00: The planes do fly close to shore.
• 8:46
SPEAKER_00: This is one of the best positioned air shows in the world for viewing, but binoculars will let you pick up details on the aircraft that you'd otherwise miss.
• 8:53
SPEAKER_00: You can even get a look of the pilots inside their aircraft.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_00: And if you're coming for the full day, dress in layers.
• 8:58
SPEAKER_00: It'll be warm during the show, but the ocean breeze picks up in the afternoon.
• 9:02
SPEAKER_00: And if you're staying through sunset, it cools down quickly.
• 9:05
SPEAKER_00: A few tips that separate the people who have a great day from the people who don't.
• 9:10
SPEAKER_00: Starting with number one, sign up for the Pacific Air Show newsletter at PacificAirshow USA.com before the event.
• 9:16
SPEAKER_00: They do not release the daily performance schedule publicly in advance.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_00: It's part of their element of surprise philosophy, but they do send the day's schedule to newsletter subscribers each morning of the event.
• 9:27
SPEAKER_00: If you want to know what's flying and when, this is how you find out.
• 9:31
SPEAKER_00: Number two, if you're in the free beach area and you want to watch from the water, you can.
• 9:36
SPEAKER_00: Boats are permitted to view the air show from the ocean.
• 9:39
SPEAKER_00: If you have access to a boat or know someone who does, watching from the water is, in my opinion, a next level experience.
• 9:47
SPEAKER_00: Number three, Friday is the least crowded day.
• 9:50
  SPEAKER_00: Saturday is the peak.
• 9:51
SPEAKER_00: It's when the biggest crowds arrive and when parking and traffic are at their worst.
• 9:55
SPEAKER_00: If your schedule is flexible and you have a choice, Friday gives you a better experience with less friction.
• 10:01
SPEAKER_00: The show is the same quality all three days.
• 10:04
SPEAKER_00: Number four, check the weather.
• 10:07
SPEAKER_00: October and HB is beautiful, but marine layers can roll in from the coast.
• 10:12
SPEAKER_00: A low overcast morning usually burns off by 10 or 11 a.m., but a heavy marine layer can affect visibility for the aircrafts.
• 10:20
SPEAKER_00: The event goes on regardless of weather unless there are safety concerns.
• 10:24
SPEAKER_00: Knowing what to expect helps you plan your arrival time.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_00: Now I'm going to give you a bonus tip.
• 10:29
SPEAKER_00: There are practice performances on Thursday.
• 10:32
SPEAKER_00: So if you want to see some action and truly want to avoid the major crowds, this is the day for you.
• 10:37
SPEAKER_00: Here's what I want to leave you with, and it goes beyond logistics.
• 10:41
SPEAKER_00: The Pacific Air Show is one of those events that reminds you of something.
• 10:44
SPEAKER_00: You're standing on the beach in Huntington Beach, California in October.
• 10:47
  SPEAKER_00: The weather is perfect.
• 10:49
SPEAKER_00: The ocean is right there.
• 10:50
  SPEAKER_00: And then a U.S.
• 10:51
SPEAKER_00: Air Force Thunderbird comes over the water at full speed, and the sound hits your chest before your brain even registers what you really saw and what really happened.
• 10:59
SPEAKER_00: Millions of people make the trip to Huntington Beach for exactly this every fall.
• 11:03
SPEAKER_00: People fly in from other states.
• 11:05
SPEAKER_00: They drive from all over Southern California and they keep coming back because there is nothing else like it.
• 11:10
SPEAKER_00: The combination of this coastline, this community, and that show in the sky.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_00: If you're a local, this is one of the best weekends of the year.
• 11:17
SPEAKER_00: If you're visiting and if it's your first time at Pacific Air Show in Huntington Beach, welcome.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_00: I hope this guide helps to make the most of every minute.
• 11:24
SPEAKER_00: And if you're watching this and thinking this is the kind of city you want to call home, reach out.
• 11:29
SPEAKER_00: My name is Lane Stone.
