- 0:00Hey, y'.
- 0:01All.
- 0:01You were listening to another episode of the spiritual Homegirl podcast.
- 0:04We better self in spirit and make peace with the day through wisdom, education, and practical, easy to follow tips.
- 0:09I am your host, Maria, your spiritual homegirl, who's also a mental professional.
- 0:14And I've been podcasting pretty consistently since coming back from maternity leave.
- 0:19And I love that, and I hope y' all been loving it too.
- 0:21In case you missed it, don't forget, since coming back from maternity leave, we've done quite a few episodes.
- 0:28So we started from 603 why community shouldn't cost you yourself.
- 0:32Then we did 604, which is about desperation being a terrible life partner.
- 0:37Then we did 605, where we give ourselves permission to grow while grieving.
- 0:41Then episode 606 is about mistaking intuition for authority.
- 0:45And then 607 is how Jamel Hills set an awesome boundary in just two sentences.
- 0:51So today, on episode 608, we're going to talk about special days and holidays.
- 0:56And I know that sometimes people are really stringent about following the standard holiday schedule.
- 1:07So, like a Christmas Eve, a Christmas, a Mother's Day, a Father's Day, Grandparents Day, New Year's Day, if you follow the Gregorian calendar, Valentine's Day, St.
- 1:16Patrick's Day, President's Day, all these awesome types of days, right?
- 1:21But in the meantime, we just live regular degular days.
- 1:25And why is that?
- 1:27Why do days have to be regular?
- 1:29They're regular until they aren't.
- 1:30And then I know if you're anything like me, you make your birthday a holiday too, because that's just the way it goes.
- 1:35Or if you're also like me, you might do like an equinox or a.
- 1:40Or a solstice as like, days that are special, but we assign special meaning to specific days.
- 1:46But why not look at all days as special and meaningful and worth celebration or reverence?
- 1:56Sometimes we'll just mosey along throughout the week and say, oh, I can't wait until this day, because then I can celebrate.
- 2:02What's wrong with celebrating on a Monday?
- 2:04Most times, Mondays get a bad rap.
- 2:05For some, you may love the fresh start of the work week and doing your thing.
- 2:09And for some of you, that actually might be the start of your week.
- 2:11If for those that don't qualify Sunday as their start of the week, of the new week.
- 2:16But for sometimes, you know, for some people, excuse me, they'll say, Mondays are terrible.
- 2:19Oh, I gotta go back to work.
- 2:21Oh, I gotta just gotta do that.
- 2:23How come we can't look at Mondays as a day to say, wow, here is an amazing, awesome day to have a fresh start.
- 2:30It is the first Monday of August in 2026.
- 2:34It is the second Monday in August in 2026.
- 2:37It's in this case where the second Thursday in August of 2026.
- 2:45Like, wow, how could I make this amazing?
- 2:49For me, what small thing can I do to just find some joy and say, man, this was a day that was worth celebrating?
- 2:56Or you know what?
- 2:57This day is going to be memorable because I've done xyz.
- 3:00I'm going to remember and make it special because of blank.
- 3:03What is it that you're going to do today moving forward that's going to make every day a day worth celebrating?
- 3:10Do you have to ball out and do a bunch of stuff and make a super cute aesthetic to post on Instagram?
- 3:15No.
- 3:17Could you buy something small?
- 3:19Maybe if you want to buy yourself a little cupcake with a candle and just celebrate and just say, wow, this is a Thursday.
- 3:24Or this is a really good day, or this is going to be the first of many good days.
- 3:30If today wasn't so good, whatever it is, you can do that.
- 3:33You have the right to do that.
- 3:35So for those that might get caught up in the tediousness of just celebrating the days when society tells you to, I challenge you to start celebrating days that are off your calendar and assign special meaning to them.
- 3:48And do you have to do a ritual for them all in terms of.
- 3:51And I know some of y' all gonna try to make it.
- 3:53Woo, woo.
- 3:54Please, please, please.
- 3:57Okay, I couldn't wait to get that out.
- 3:59Please don't get into that.
- 4:01Because a lot of times a lot of people will say, oh, that's witchcraft.
- 4:04Not realizing some of the other things they do could technically be considered witchcraft by other people too.
- 4:08So we're not going to get into that.
- 4:10But you could do your own rituals and things of value and importance that may not always have to be so routine.
- 4:17So, so even if it's just, you know what, I'm going to pick a random day, I'm going to pick September 4th and that's going to be a good day for me to just celebrate and do something kind for
- 4:25myself.
- 4:26Or I'm going to celebrate on August 13th and I'm going to do something kind for myself or I'm.
- 4:33Whatever it is, just make it about you.
- 4:35Make it about being happy, make it about finding joy.
- 4:38Because again, like I'm always say, if you leave it up society to tell you what to do, you're going to be miserable, you're gonna be miserable, you're gonna be fearful, you're gonna be full of hatred, you're gonna be
- 4:48full of judgment.
- 4:49And that's just not a healthy way to live.
- 4:52So again, that's your challenge.
- 4:53If you choose to accept.
- 4:54Let me know how it goes.
- 4:55I'm spiritual Homegirl everywhere.
- 4:57Don't forget to sign up for my email list.
- 4:59It's the second link in my show notes.
- 5:00I didn't want to make this too long because I've been talking for the last month and if you've listened to episode 603 until now, you know I've had a lot to say, so I'm gonna keep this one short.
- 5:12So with that being said, y', all, this has been another episode of Spiritual Homegirl Podcast.
- 5:16My name is Maria, your spiritual homegirl.
- 5:18And remember, boo, friends, trust the journey.
- 5:20Trust yourself, and whatever you do, do it with love.
- 5:23Celebrating included.
- 5:24Love, y'.
- 5:25All.
- 5:25Peace.
