- 0:00What's up, everyone? So I got up today and I just was not feeling it.
- 0:06I don't know about you. Do you ever have those days where you are just not feeling it at all?
- 0:11Man, I think I ate too late last night and I do that.
- 0:15I do that sometimes. I try to get away from that and I'm trying to get,
- 0:18I'm trying to cut out carbs or something.
- 0:20I feel like the more I try to get healthy, the weaker I become because then
- 0:24the littlest things throw me up and I get thrown off so easily.
- 0:28I don't know what it is, but man, I was not feeling it this morning.
- 0:33I'm not feeling it right now.
- 0:35So I don't know, maybe you're going through something like that.
- 0:38We all are going through something. We're waking up, we're getting into our
- 0:41day, you know, and all that. And just the weirdest things are happening lately.
- 0:44I wanted to start it off this morning with what do words mean?
- 0:50Because I try to become greater and better at language, but some of the words
- 0:56that I use all the time, I've never actually looked into what they mean.
- 1:00And this might make you question my intellectual ability that I don't even know certain words.
- 1:08I get the gist of a lot of words.
- 1:11There are a lot of words that I just use, and I could put it in context and try to make sense of it.
- 1:15But the word of the day is solicit.
- 1:21Honestly, I don't know what that means. I don't know what the word solicit means.
- 1:26And I hear it in different contexts. I said, no soliciting.
- 1:30There's the crude word of soliciting sex. I don't, so I don't know what that is.
- 1:35And then soliciting and like selling something. So is that when you're selling
- 1:38that? And I don't know what solicitation is. So we're going to look it up today.
- 1:43I'm going to look it up and I'm going to right before your eyes,
- 1:45I'm going to find out what does the word solicit mean?
- 1:48I'm typing it into good old faithful Google and solicit says,
- 1:53ask for or try to obtain something from someone.
- 1:57So that's what is throwing me off because in the context, I would always think
- 2:00it does mean you're asking for something.
- 2:02But then I always see signs that say no soliciting, but it's like a person come to your door.
- 2:08They're not asking for something. They're trying to sell you something.
- 2:11So that's where I'm getting all thrown off. And I'm like, what does it mean over here?
- 2:14What does it mean over there? You know, maybe you know what that word is,
- 2:17and I guess I know what the gist of it is, but it says solicit means ask for
- 2:21or try to obtain something from someone.
- 2:25So when you see no solicit, I don't know. Anybody ever like this?
- 2:29There's words out there we use, we throw in context, but the word of the day
- 2:31for me is solicit, solicit.
- 2:34So I, because whenever I was thinking about it, I was in my mind,
- 2:39I thought it was because you say
- 2:41someone solicits sex, I would think that they're asking for it, I guess.
- 2:45I don't know. But then I was just completely just flipped because I was thinking
- 2:49you're going to go and sell something.
- 2:50So does that mean somebody is selling it like prostitution?
- 2:53Is that what that means? Either way, it means to ask for or try to obtain something from someone. Whoa.
- 2:59So maybe that's why I am way off today because I but I wanted to I want to maybe
- 3:05try to introduce some word.
- 3:06And maybe people out there that you know these words, you got them in the back
- 3:11of your head. You already know these things easily.
- 3:14But for me today, the word is solicit. And now I know it is to ask for something
- 3:19or try to obtain something from someone.
- 3:21It's not necessarily the sales thing, but you're trying to get something from someone.
- 3:25And then I always think about the movie Airheads, because I always think in
- 3:29that movie, Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, like that movie's awesome.
- 3:34And he's like, no solicitation. He's like, he's wanting to get a record deal
- 3:38and he has to come unsolicited, unsolicited.
- 3:41And I'm like, what does unsolicited mean?
- 3:44Maybe words mean things in different contexts, but it means to ask.
- 3:47Maybe he wants that record deal without asking for it.
- 3:51It needs to come to him like freely from someone else.
- 3:55I think we're there. I think we're there, everyone. I think we're there.
- 3:58All right, today we are talking about, my name is Brandon Fogel.
- 4:00This is Evolution. and we're going to get into this.
- 4:02And I did want to also talk about, I, like I said, the other day,
- 4:05I'm going to start researching and understanding what evolution is because I
- 4:12said, I use the name for my show because I love, I like the word,
- 4:15but I'm also looking into the theory of evolution.
- 4:18And right now, just the, what I've looked at so far, it is to me,
- 4:24it's almost, it would take a very strong faith to believe in that theory,
- 4:28just based on, I've been trying to watch a bunch of videos and try to understand it.
- 4:33And I'm trying to come at it with an open mind of what people are saying.
- 4:38And I just think I got everything right. Cause.
- 4:40And I'm not going to have everything right. Nobody has everything right. We are not anybody.
- 4:45Nobody here is the sole person that has a sole arbiter of truth.
- 4:50In reality, they have it stuck in their head and nobody else has it.
- 4:53People have a lot of people have bits and pieces of truth. But just looking
- 4:57at the theory of evolution so far, it does not seem strong to me.
- 5:01And I will keep you updated as I research it and as I try to study it,
- 5:07because I want to get into I want to see this carbon dating.
- 5:09I want to see these fossils because so far, a lot of times all I see is a little
- 5:13fossil and then they say it's this huge thing.
- 5:17So I want to find out about that. I want to learn more about that as well as
- 5:21right now, I keep seeing that it's the, they use a lot of the whale,
- 5:28whales in the ocean, that they have a bone inside of them that looks like that
- 5:33they used to walk a long time ago.
- 5:35And inside there that we can find in inside
- 5:38of a whale that that's evidence that they have some
- 5:41type of bone inside of them that gives us a hint that
- 5:44they used to walk years and years ago i don't think
- 5:47that's that strong of evidence so far but i mean i i'm still looking into it
- 5:50because they use a lot of words i want to see pictures i want to see pictures
- 5:53i want to see what is what the strongest evidence you have for evolution like
- 5:59the theory of evolution and darwinism i mean and I was going to talk about the
- 6:05hard sayings of Jesus in this,
- 6:07but I also want to talk about just seeing Darwin and him going to the Galapagos,
- 6:11and he saw a finch over in this island, and then there's a finch that's over
- 6:15on this island, and they have similar traits.
- 6:19I need to be educated. I need to be edumacated.
- 6:23Big time. So I'm studying it. I will keep you updated. You know,
- 6:26this is maybe the one of many videos that I bring that up and talk about that.
- 6:30But in this video, we, I know we've talked about solicitation.
- 6:32We've all talked about Darwinism and all that. We're going to talk about the
- 6:36hardest saying, the most difficult saying of Jesus, at least for me.
- 6:43I should have put that in the title, but this one is the strongest one for me
- 6:48of why I have struggled with Jesus at times.
- 6:54I ultimately and completely believe in him, but this is one that has caused me to trip up.
- 7:01And it's regarding this saying, what he talks about, and it says in all the
- 7:05gospels, in all the gospels that he has in his ministry, he's preaching to the
- 7:10people. Let me switch screens just so you have a verse in front of you.
- 7:14You know, all good stuff.
- 7:15All right. So he's preaching his ministry in front of the people.
- 7:19And he gives this impression like he's going to be coming back within that same generation.
- 7:26And over and over, and we're going to look, maybe this first verse right here,
- 7:29it says in Matthew chapter 16, the very bottom of the page right there.
- 7:34Jesus says, 1627, for the son of man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his father.
- 7:42And then he will repay each person according to what he has done.
- 7:46Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until
- 7:52they see the son of man coming in his kingdom.
- 7:55A lot of times, like as a Christian, it's easy to just skate over those passages
- 8:00and just not really fully flesh it out what Jesus is saying,
- 8:04did he really think he was going to be returning within that generation?
- 8:10And as a prophet, because Jesus was a prophet, did he have the flexibility?
- 8:17And he had the credentials of being a prophet, but did he have that?
- 8:20Because a lot of times, even in the Old Testament, there were prophets that
- 8:24they would say something was going to happen, and then it didn't happen.
- 8:28So the prophet Jonah, he goes into Nineveh and he says, in 40 days,
- 8:32Nineveh is going to be destroyed.
- 8:34The people repent and then it's not destroyed.
- 8:37And then in the book of Isaiah, it talks about Isaiah goes to the king and he
- 8:42says, you are going to die.
- 8:44You are going to die. And then the king weeps and cries and cries out to God.
- 8:50And then God extends his life to live longer than he was said he was going to happen.
- 8:57So it's like, can we change God's mind?
- 9:00I would say fundamentally we can't.
- 9:04But there are anthropomorphisms in the Bible that give us kind of a way that we can understand.
- 9:11Ultimately, in God's mind, in his eternal plan, it doesn't change,
- 9:15but it's almost he puts things in place that could give the appearance that his mind changes.
- 9:22So when Jesus is talking about this, truly, I say some of you standing here
- 9:26will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.
- 9:31And I've heard so many different kind of ways to explain what he's saying is,
- 9:37and then I've heard that he's talking about just a few days later that he goes
- 9:41up to the Mount of Transfiguration and then Peter and John and James, they saw him,
- 9:48like they saw the eternal, like the glory that is hidden was concealed in his
- 9:52humanity, like kind of just come through, come through and And just, they saw him in that.
- 9:58Was that the coming that he's talking about?
- 10:00Like, that was like, them seeing him in his glory, was that what he was referring to?
- 10:06And I've heard that from New Testament scholars that I madly respect.
- 10:11I don't think that that really is, that doesn't make sense that much.
- 10:16Because he says some of you standing here will not taste death.
- 10:20So then I, now let's skip forward a little bit. We're going to go to the very
- 10:24end of Matthew when Jesus is given the all of it discourse.
- 10:28Let me throw it on the page for
- 10:30you as well. Find it. Maybe I should have found it before I got on here.
- 10:33Okay. This is another one in chapter 24, right here, like chapter 24,
- 10:3844. Take out the right thing.
- 10:40Two different things. I can't find the verse. It was, it was,
- 10:43one of them is Jesus talks about no one knows the day that he's going to return.
- 10:48He says, the angels don't know and the son doesn't know, but the father alone.
- 10:54That was, that's a tough one as well. But we have to understand that Jesus was a man.
- 10:58He grew up as a child. He grew up, had parents and everything like that.
- 11:03He learned, he didn't immediately come out of the womb, just speaking perfect
- 11:07Aramaic. He had to learn how to speak.
- 11:10So there was a real reality to his humanity.
- 11:14So him not knowing the day he was going to return, was that him,
- 11:19the divine nature was concealing it and kind of hiding that from his human nature.
- 11:25That's the only way I could understand that. But the verse I wanted to find
- 11:28out was, it was, and it's at the very end. It's like, I'm going to find it.
- 11:32I'm going to find it. Might as well just look at this generation. Okay, let me see.
- 11:372434. Okay. It's Matthew 2434. Jesus giving the Olivet Discourse and he's talking
- 11:43about things that are going to happen near term.
- 11:46And then he's talking about things that are going to happen long-term.
- 11:49And it seems like he's kind of conflating in them.
- 11:52You see a little bit of the stars are going to fall from heaven,
- 11:55the moon's going to turn to blood, and the sun's going to turn to sackcloth.
- 11:59But then also, this temple is going to be destroyed.
- 12:02And that was a legit, true prophecy that he declared that within that generation,
- 12:08Rome came in and just completely destroy Jerusalem and the temple.
- 12:14But at the end of the whole verse in the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24,
- 12:19verse 34, he says, truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until
- 12:25all these things take place.
- 12:27Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
- 12:31So for me, this is another one, and it hasn't to do in the same kind of milieu
- 12:36of he's talking about no one knows the day or hour that I'm going to come back.
- 12:42And he says that it's going to happen within this generation.
- 12:46And he's talking to contemporaries.
- 12:48So is the coming of the Lord in that context, is there a difference?
- 12:54And I would say, and just studying the Greek, there is a difference.
- 12:58It's the word parousia, parousia. And that had to do with a judge coming to
- 13:03town, a judge doing his circuit and coming to town and making his determinations
- 13:08and deciding things and judging somewhere.
- 13:11So Jesus, I would say maybe is being a little bit loose and also in his prerogative
- 13:18as a prophet, he can have that near-term fulfillment future that's going to.
- 13:25Out there future. That's going to be the greater reality of what he's prophesying.
- 13:29And I would say that is what's happening because that's the only way I can make sense of it.
- 13:34Because he says within this generation, Rome, the temple is going to be destroyed.
- 13:39It says not one stone is going to be left upon another. This whole thing is going to be coming down.
- 13:43This is 40 years before that temple was destroyed. And it would have seemed
- 13:47ludicrous for anybody at that time, but it happened, but he didn't come back
- 13:53within that generation.
- 13:54So was his coming just that coming in judgment?
- 13:57That's the only way I can make sense of it. And I've thought about the Olivet
- 14:02Discourse when Jesus talks about that.
- 14:04And I put it into three, I don't know why I always touch my face.
- 14:08Okay. I put it into three different perspectives, three different viewpoints.
- 14:13Let me see if I can remember them off the top of my head. One is that immediate
- 14:17generation that was right there that happened, and then they experienced that.
- 14:21They saw it and they witnessed it happen. But then the other one,
- 14:25maybe it's not three, it's three.
- 14:26I hadn't thought through this yet. It's been a little bit before,
- 14:30since I thought about this. There was three.
- 14:33I'll try to remember those, but there was that immediate generation that they
- 14:36experienced it that happened and they saw it happen.
- 14:39But also the coming of the Lord has to do with anyone.
- 14:43Because we always think about Jesus's return when he's physically going to return.
- 14:48Is that going to be, am I going to be here for the ride?
- 14:52Am I going to be front and center in a part of that generation when it happens?
- 14:56Really to me, it doesn't matter because the coming of the Lord for all of us
- 15:01applies to us very personally because the coming of the Lord could be tomorrow for you personally,
- 15:08for me personally, because I could die tomorrow. I could die today.
- 15:13Our coming and appearing before God could happen at any breath.
- 15:17Our final breath could happen at any moment.
- 15:20So it very much matters how we look at Jesus's words, but this one has been
- 15:27one that has tripped me up.
- 15:28I've tried to gymnastically understand it and like what Jesus means.
- 15:32Ultimately, there is so much more that I do understand and I do see clearly
- 15:36about Jesus and trusting in him that this isn't going to cause me to stumble,
- 15:42isn't going to cause me to trip up and throw him out.
- 15:45But it is a tough one and it is one that critics will bring up.
- 15:49And I would say rightfully so, because if you look at it just at plain level,
- 15:54it does look like Jesus said something and didn't happen.
- 15:58But I would argue it has to do with him being a prophet.
- 16:01Like I said, certain prophets said things were going to happen,
- 16:05but then certain events didn't follow.
- 16:08And then God's grace, you could say, overcame.
- 16:12And God allowed more people to repent and come into the kingdom.
- 16:17That's why at this time right now, it's times of repentance.
- 16:20People are given that opportunity to whether they want to choose or reject the
- 16:25gospel, but we want to choose or reject believing in Jesus.
- 16:28So maybe that is what is happening there. So I don't know about you,
- 16:33but this one has been tough for me.
- 16:36And I'm certainly going to talk more about it. And I'm certainly going to talk
- 16:39more about how I'm learning more about evolution. So I'll bring that along the way as well.
- 16:45And if people that say that believe in evolution, the theory and all that,
- 16:49that is real, I will concede.
- 16:54This is a good argument. because like I said in a previous video,
- 16:57that did make Rhett McLaughlin stumble and fall away from the faith.
- 17:02So if it's true, I am interested in what's true. And as far as I can see, Jesus is the truth.
- 17:11So I would say all roads are going to lead to him ultimately.
- 17:14So, all right. Make sure you like this video if you haven't and subscribe,
- 17:20share it with your friends and keep going and keep evolving to that best version of you.
