- 0:39SPEAKER_05: Welcome in everybody to the Talket Tech Podcast, covered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_05: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonigal.
- 0:47SPEAKER_05: Tristan, we're back.
- 0:49SPEAKER_04: We gotta bless the mood.
- 0:52SPEAKER_04: Gotta bless the mood.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: Come on with me now.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: Bless the mood.
- 0:57SPEAKER_05: Bless the mood.
- 0:58SPEAKER_05: Bless the mood.
- 1:01SPEAKER_05: We bless the mood on Saturday to open up conference play.
- 1:05SPEAKER_05: How about ya?
- 1:06SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: And yes, Steven, as as you were alluding to before, apparently we do have a podcast, and it's we are back, baby.
- 1:13SPEAKER_04: New year, new resolution.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: And that is indeed getting back on this microphone, even though it's just a couple weeks off for holidays.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: Three weeks.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: Three weeks we took off because of the holiday festivities, the Christmas, the New Year's.
- 1:27SPEAKER_05: Um sorry about that.
- 1:30SPEAKER_05: Sorry about that.
- 1:31SPEAKER_05: Whatever.
- 1:31SPEAKER_05: We're back, we're here, and we're talking about a Texas Tech dub.
- 1:36SPEAKER_05: And you know what we do when Texas Tech gets a big dub.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: We play the song, Steven.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, we're gonna play the song.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: You play that song, sir.
- 1:45SPEAKER_07: Red Raider coming at you, riding through the night with a fury of Texas win.
- 1:54SPEAKER_07: Red Raider coming at you.
- 1:56SPEAKER_07: What a beautiful sign! The Texas Tech Red Raiders riding right again.
- 2:04SPEAKER_05: Texas Tech defeated Texas at the Moody Center.
- 2:07SPEAKER_05: Bless the mood.
- 2:08SPEAKER_05: Um big big win.
- 2:11SPEAKER_05: Big win to start off conference play, big win to start off the McCasslin era at Texas Tech here.
- 2:16SPEAKER_05: Uh overall thoughts on the game.
- 2:20SPEAKER_04: Steven, it's the last time we're gonna play in Austin as conference foes.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: And it wasn't just a win.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that was a domination.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: I particularly in the second half, I really felt like we dominated UT.
- 2:37SPEAKER_04: Um, wherever we really started establishing our presence and our uh in our game plan in the mood, and when we were blessing the mood, so to speak, I really thought there was no way the horns were gonna catch up.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: Like I felt really good about our chances.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no doubt.
- 2:52SPEAKER_05: Uh now I think people have kind of done a little too much of a turn on Texas, more so than giving Texas Tech credit from what I've seen the last couple days, which is fine.
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: You know, it's one win in conference play.
- 3:04SPEAKER_05: I didn't expect Texas Tech to be ranked or anything, but to in most outlets, most reactions to the Texas Tech win in Austin, it was more so like, oh, yep, we knew it.
- 3:16SPEAKER_05: Texas frauds, which I'm always I'm always fine with calling Texas fraudler, but I Texas is still a good team.
- 3:23SPEAKER_05: That's a that is a talented team with a lot of good players on it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_05: That you're right, Texas Tech outright beat.
- 3:30SPEAKER_05: I mean, there was no doubt in the second half there after we finally got it going.
- 3:35SPEAKER_05: And I mean, Rodney Terry was outcoached, plain and simple, by Grant McCasslin.
- 3:40SPEAKER_05: Uh, everybody on this Texas Tech team, we went down to about an eight-man rotation, which is about expected at this point in the year.
- 3:48SPEAKER_05: Everybody played and contributed.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: There was no real um, you know, low, low point for any player this game.
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: I mean, everybody did something to lead to the win for Texas Tech.
- 4:01SPEAKER_05: So this was just a big one to start conference play.
- 4:05SPEAKER_05: Really, really happy to start off one and oh, especially when you get a road win.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think I think what's really freaking awesome about this is this has to be Grant McCasslin's first big one.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: Like, really first big win.
- 4:19SPEAKER_04: You know, you're while you're walking into conference play, you're going up against a rank opponent, rival opponent, pack moody center.
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: You know, they you know, obviously the fans really wanted to beat us because we've hounded them on the hardwood court these past few years.
- 4:31SPEAKER_04: And he went in there and cool as a cucumber, got it done, man.
- 4:35SPEAKER_04: And I just gotta say, I I am I know it's easy to hop on the new guy, especially whenever he we are winning, but I just love the energy he has brought to this program.
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: The man just feels seems so utterly committed to his players and just being present on the hardwood and not afraid to show his uh excitement and emotions on the sideline.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: And I just think it's a really awesome thing to witness as a fan.
- 5:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, I'm I'm glad you brought that up.
- 5:02SPEAKER_05: I was gonna bring it up later, but we may as well talk about it now.
- 5:05SPEAKER_05: Grant McCaslin, you just trust that guy.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't know what it is about it.
- 5:11SPEAKER_05: He's only been at Texas Tech for a few months at this point, so I'm not, you know, going full on like I did the first you know few months of Mark Adams because of that whole situation.
- 5:22SPEAKER_05: But to have a guy as balanced as he is, and when I say balanced, I mean like, you know, he's measured, he's competitive, he says the right things, he has this sort of love and you know, relationship building factor to him with these players.
- 5:39SPEAKER_05: Um meanwhile, he's extremely fiery and he's getting in guys' grills, he's letting them know what they did wrong, what we need to do differently, he's game planning, you know, particularly for the matchups.
- 5:50SPEAKER_05: He's not just sticking to playing one way or another.
- 5:53SPEAKER_05: It's it's really like all coming together right now in year one, which is rare for a lot of teams.
- 6:00SPEAKER_05: But no, I'm I've been thrilled with what I've seen out of Grandma Castlin.
- 6:04SPEAKER_05: He's handled, and and we'll get to the pop situation here soon, but he's handled that, you know, tremendously well for you know, handed at a really sticky situation that he you know immediately goes and reports to Kirby Hokut and uh does everything the correct way.
- 6:20SPEAKER_05: Um, so yeah, no, to your point, Grandma Castlin has been nothing but a positive for Texas Tech.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: Um, it's it's interesting that you said that UT has kind of been the story of this game in the sense that they're not everything that was promised.
- 6:36SPEAKER_04: I mean, obviously, we've already made that joke, that's just just how UT rolls.
- 6:40SPEAKER_04: But from what I've seen, as we're still on this Grandma Castlin topic, is the reaffirmation of the ball knowers out there of everywhere this guy goes, he wins.
- 6:51SPEAKER_04: And you're already seeing it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: Like I said, I I know it's just game one of conference play, but it's just you it's hard to measure and put uh val as to this so much value uh on going in, beating your biggest rival and do uh in a ranked house, and just like you said, being measured in and and focused, laser focused and doing so, whenever you were expected to lose.
- 7:14SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think everyone pinned this as a win for UT.
- 7:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, but I think uh McCastlett just put the rest of the Big 12 on notice that we are once again back into them the back into the mix of being one of the top at minimum five teams.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: No, I mean you showed that you can compete with basically anybody in this conference.
- 7:34SPEAKER_05: Now we'll see how Houston is when they actually play somebody worth a shit.
- 7:38SPEAKER_05: We'll see, you know, Kansas when they don't get the calls at home.
- 7:41SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, a lot of shade coming from your side right now, sir.
- 7:44SPEAKER_05: I'm just saying Kansas or TCU got absolutely screwed in that Kansas game, and we all know funny.
- 7:50SPEAKER_05: It's funny seeing TCU get screwed, yes, but Kansas basketball continues to keep getting calls at Allen Fieldhouse that nobody else has that home court advantage from the referees.
- 8:01SPEAKER_05: It's absolutely insane what that team does.
- 8:04SPEAKER_05: But regardless, what were you gonna say?
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say I do like the memes that have come of it though.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: I do like the most unstoppable duo in college basketball is a picture of self and the rest.
- 8:15SPEAKER_04: I think it's kind of funny.
- 8:16SPEAKER_05: Those are always good, those are always good.
- 8:18SPEAKER_05: It's always funny.
- 8:18SPEAKER_05: That's my team.
- 8:19SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 8:20SPEAKER_05: It's always funny until it happens to you at Alan Fieldhouse.
- 8:23SPEAKER_05: So um we're we're getting away from it.
- 8:25SPEAKER_05: Let's let's hit on the uh the touchy subject that happened.
- 8:28SPEAKER_05: This team dealt with a lot of adversity going into this Texas game.
- 8:32SPEAKER_05: Um, obviously, on Friday afternoon, uh, article released about Pop Isaacs.
- 8:37SPEAKER_05: Um it involved and named in a civil lawsuit uh filed against him, accused of sexual assault of a minor.
- 8:46SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, obviously a very serious situation.
- 8:49SPEAKER_05: And uh, you know, we don't want to brush it off, uh, but I think you and me both don't want to jump to any conclusions before the matter is absolutely settled outside of the court, which uh well, on the court outside of the basketball court, I'll say.
- 9:03SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, it I it's like one thing after another with Texas Tech basketball.
- 9:10SPEAKER_05: That was my first initial thought was like, okay, here we go again.
- 9:12SPEAKER_05: We just had this whole debacle with Mark Adams.
- 9:15SPEAKER_05: Now, obviously, nothing, you know, criminal with him.
- 9:19SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, Title IX involved, spitting incident, you know, very personal matters.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: And you you just think you get a fresh start with Graham McCassin, and here comes something else uh about one of your best players on the team.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: What was kind of your initial reaction when you saw the news?
- 9:38SPEAKER_04: Um honestly, I thought I thought, oh well, damn it.
- 9:42SPEAKER_04: Um, because you know, pop pop Isaacs is obviously your best player, and you expect a certain level of professionalism whenever it comes to the to to this team.
- 9:54SPEAKER_04: Um and uh sexually assaulting a minor is obviously uh absolute no go to put it lightly.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: And so it it's just it seemed really shady out of the gate, but I I think the reason why I'm just I struggle to talk about it is because I try to stop myself and put myself in the shoes of what if this wasn't about uh if this wasn't if this this had nothing to do with Texas Tech.
- 10:22SPEAKER_04: Like, would I feel differently viewing the situation if I didn't have my inherently very strong bias towards the institution that it's reflecting poorly on?
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: So I'm trying to keep myself in a neutral mindset and not try to jump to any any one way or the other, and but it's just like if let's say he if he's cleared, would I be a go as easy on the guy if he was saying on Baylor or UT?
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: You know, would I feel differently about all this if he wasn't my player?
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: So I'm really struggling to find a fair position to stand on it right now.
- 10:58SPEAKER_04: Um, but it that's not to ignore the fishiness that this reeks of.
- 11:02SPEAKER_04: I mean, we're talking about something that's cropped up months after the incident, and that's that all on automatically puts out a red light of whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, why is this a problem now?
- 11:12SPEAKER_04: You know, kind of thing.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: Um, and obviously it's a civil case, not a criminal case.
- 11:16SPEAKER_04: So it's it's a little more nuanced than say throwing the guy in jail, and obviously I also have it in a foreign country.
- 11:22SPEAKER_04: Not that that uh at all affects the objective morality of it.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: So it's not it's not like killing if so if if if killing was legal in a country and you kill someone that makes it okay, you know what I mean?
- 11:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so um I I know that was kind of a whole lot of nothing, but I'm struggling to find a position on it, and right now I think I'm just kind of waiting on the edges.
- 11:42SPEAKER_05: Well, and I think that's how it should be.
- 11:44SPEAKER_05: I I think jumping to conclusions in a in a you know matter as you know crazy as this is the right move.
- 11:53SPEAKER_05: You want to wait for more information.
- 11:54SPEAKER_05: This is gonna be an ongoing thing.
- 11:56SPEAKER_05: This isn't gonna, you know, settle itself tomorrow.
- 11:59SPEAKER_05: It's not gonna settle itself in a week, it's gonna probably be a multi-month process.
- 12:03SPEAKER_05: We're talking here.
- 12:04SPEAKER_05: Um, the gambling gouch has had an attorney on their show to kind of shed some light on the matter.
- 12:08SPEAKER_05: And I do recommend going back and listening to their episode uh because it was super enlightening.
- 12:14SPEAKER_05: Uh, just kind of how how this case is being perceived and how it should be perceived.
- 12:19SPEAKER_05: Um, basically, to sum it up, there's like two different sides of this.
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: There's the civil lawsuit that was filed against Pop Isaacs, and then there's the Title IX matter that Texas Tech is heavily involved in.
- 12:30SPEAKER_05: Texas Tech, you know, every university has their own uh means and ways that they handle Title IX, you know, cases like this.
- 12:42SPEAKER_05: Um, it's handled directly through the federal government and the university.
- 12:46SPEAKER_05: The university has a board of uh panel members that were appointed by you know each individual university that have been trained in kind of the Title IX, the federal codes and the conduct and all that kind of stuff.
- 12:58SPEAKER_05: Um, Pop's situation is kind of especially tricky because it took place outside of the United States.
- 13:06SPEAKER_05: Allegedly, you know, the the um matter occurred in the Bahamas during the Battle for Atlantis tournament when Texas Tech was participating in it.
- 13:16SPEAKER_05: Um, so really the jurisdiction is not, you know, it's it's a tricky situation because you're dealing outside of your jurisdiction of what Title IX usually does.
- 13:25SPEAKER_05: So um right now there's an ongoing investigation that's happening.
- 13:32SPEAKER_05: There's by no means a reason to I because I think a lot of people are asking why is Pop not suspended in the meantime?
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: Why is you know why is he still playing when this is going?
- 13:45SPEAKER_05: Because it would honestly be a legal matter in the opposite way if McCasslin or Kirby Hokud were to step in and suspend Pop Isaacs before there anything was decided, before anything came of this case.
- 13:59SPEAKER_05: So it and not to say that Graham McCassin wants you know Pop Isaacs suspended right now, but to the fact that there's no real crime until something comes of this case.
- 14:11SPEAKER_04: Well, uh just so just to slide in before you continue your spiel.
- 14:14SPEAKER_04: I mean, the entire uh ethos of the American justice system is you're not trying to prove someone's innocence, you're trying to prove someone's guilt.
- 14:27SPEAKER_04: So that's that's the entire basis of the American system, and that's why it would be an issue to punish the person before they're proven guilty.
- 14:34SPEAKER_05: So yeah, no, exactly.
- 14:37SPEAKER_05: Um I just it's it's obviously very tricky right now.
- 14:42SPEAKER_05: Uh it was involving uh uh as we all kind of concluded from Drew Steffi entering the transfer portal, it involved his family.
- 14:51SPEAKER_05: Um I you know, they weren't named in the civil lawsuit, but from you know the rumors swirling around, um, that's what kind of this is leading towards.
- 15:02SPEAKER_05: Um we you know, this is just a it's just a really tricky situation that I can't quite come to a conclusion on, and you shouldn't come to a conclusion on.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: I think all the people that are making assumptions and making um you know attacking certain people via social media.
- 15:22SPEAKER_05: Um you just shouldn't.
- 15:24SPEAKER_05: You just shouldn't at this point in time.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I I'm I'm with you.
- 15:28SPEAKER_04: I I think it's we're just kind of both on the uh the the wait and see, let the system play out as it should.
- 15:34SPEAKER_04: Um and it's just I I hate stuff like this because it's just it's so tricky, and there's a lot of gray area here as to the case.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: I mean if we're to believe it at face value, there's a lot of you know, you're making that you're kind of making that sound as you listen to it.
- 15:48SPEAKER_04: We're like, yeah, it's it's not great, but is it this kind of thing?
- 15:53SPEAKER_04: You're kind of doing this and that.
- 15:55SPEAKER_04: Um, but dude, just a crappy situation.
- 15:58SPEAKER_04: And honestly, if we could sit here and pause on it real quick, I if the rumors are to be believed, I honestly don't uh behove Drew Steffi for transferring.
- 16:10SPEAKER_04: I can see why that locker room would be like completely inhabitable at that point, you know.
- 16:16SPEAKER_04: It's if if the accusations are true, um, and then the way that uh Pop was allegedly going about it, you know, young men, young, young boys will be young boys, young men I should say, uh, about what they do with that kind of stuff sometimes.
- 16:29SPEAKER_04: And I can see why that'd be unbearable.
- 16:31SPEAKER_04: And so I I don't I don't blame the young man at all.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: And it's really sucks because the kid was um really all in on Texas Tech.
- 16:39SPEAKER_04: And it sucks to lose a kid that seemed to have so much promise, at least as a a a peace player, um, and a cheerleader, so to speak, and it just so like a like a glue guy in in a not Cunningham way, and so it just it's it's it's sad to see him go, but I get it, is what I'm saying.
- 16:56SPEAKER_05: No, yeah, I mean I completely understand if if and uh it regardless if this you know the allegations are true or not, just dealing with that environment every day and uh coming off of that, yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_05: We completely get it, we understand, we wish him best in the future, no ill will towards Drew Steffi and his basketball career.
- 17:15SPEAKER_05: Um, just me personally, I would uh continue to just not attack the Steffi family for you know, whatever.
- 17:24SPEAKER_05: Just kind of keep it to yourself.
- 17:26SPEAKER_05: If you have feelings one way or another, I'm not telling you not to have those feelings, but um, I just tend to let things play out the way they should.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, all this is right now is hearsaying gossip.
- 17:37SPEAKER_04: And you don't really don't want to be launching horrible allegations at people off of hearsaying gossip.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: Like that's that's completely unethical in its own way.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: So um, yeah, dude, uh it's a crappy situation all the way through.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh my brother Austin made a good point about it that Grant McCasslin, a father of two daughters, uh wouldn't risk his entire career on one player like this if he didn't have faith that it might play out in a favorable way.
- 18:03SPEAKER_04: So um I I I I also have faith, the faith in in Grant.
- 18:07SPEAKER_04: It sucks they have to deal with this immediately.
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's and it's kind of like a real test as to what you have to deal with as a head coach at a high-profile job.
- 18:15SPEAKER_04: So it'll be uh interesting to see how it plays out.
- 18:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
- 18:18SPEAKER_05: And I mean, Texas Tech put out a statement saying that you know Pop Isaacs is in good standing with the Title IX investigation right now, and there's no need to suspend him, which you know, you stand by it.
- 18:28SPEAKER_05: So uh Grant stood by that statement as well.
- 18:31SPEAKER_05: Um, and you know, we just keep going and let matters play out off of the basketball court.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: So interesting, man.
- 18:37SPEAKER_04: So can we get back to happy stuff?
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, back to it.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: Back to it.
- 18:42SPEAKER_05: We did, we kicked their butt.
- 18:43SPEAKER_05: The second half was uh just a complete just fun.
- 18:47SPEAKER_05: It was just fun, it was just fun watching this team put together those runs and you know play some good, you know, classic Texas Tech defense while also being really effective on the offensive end.
- 18:59SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, I'll go kind of player by player.
- 19:02SPEAKER_05: You know, Pop dealt with a lot this game.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: He was getting booed every time he touched the ball, um, for obvious reasons, and then goes out, put 21 points, led the team, uh, six points in the final three minutes.
- 19:16SPEAKER_05: Uh, just dealing with that environment of getting booed every time you're dealing with off court off the court stuff, and you still put up 21 points and really lead your team there.
- 19:25SPEAKER_05: Um, it was just a really nice game for him.
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:29SPEAKER_04: Clearly, the leader in the game.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: Uh, it watching him deal with all that was really awesome because it obviously didn't phase him.
- 19:36SPEAKER_04: If anything, it added feel to his fire, and he just went out there and started kicking some ass.
- 19:40SPEAKER_04: So, no, dude, watching Pop go crazy out there was awesome to see.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's so can I just say it's so freaking fun having a point guard like this, you know, like having a guy that can out there get out there and just ball rather than just feed and facilitate.
- 19:55SPEAKER_04: Like, this is such a fun kind of player to watch.
- 19:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it's a fun team, man.
- 20:00SPEAKER_05: Like, all these different guys have their own set of skills.
- 20:02SPEAKER_05: I mean, you have multiple shot creators, which is different from what we've normally had.
- 20:07SPEAKER_05: I mean, we went through years and they were successful years, you know, the uh the Sweet 16 and um, you know, Final Four runs and everything like that.
- 20:14SPEAKER_05: Final four is a little different, but like I'm talking particularly about the Mark Adams Sweet 16 team.
- 20:19SPEAKER_05: I mean, you didn't have creators there, you just happened to play really, really good defense, and you know, you scored when you could, and you won a lot of games doing that, which is great.
- 20:28SPEAKER_05: But it's it's crazy having players that can just go out and get a bucket when you need them to.
- 20:33SPEAKER_05: And Pop's one of those guys, and he was one of those guys today or um the other day when we played.
- 20:38SPEAKER_05: And uh Joe Tucson, another one of those guys, dribbling Joe, dribbling Joe, according to the Mountaineer fans.
- 20:45SPEAKER_05: Um, he had he had a run from the 1109 mark in the first half to the 730 mark where he scored 11 points.
- 20:52SPEAKER_05: I mean, dude was unconscious, he made like four or five difficult jump shots, and he's not a big dude.
- 20:59SPEAKER_05: I mean, he's 5'9, 5'10 on a good day, and that dude short king, short king was absolutely dealing against the longhorns in that first half.
- 21:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, he was truly the spark plug, like he really got us going.
- 21:13SPEAKER_04: I think he was the guy that really sucked the fans into their TV, or if you're there, you're like, Oh my god, this is happening.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: Let's freaking go.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: Um, because you know, it eased all the uh the anxiety, just turned fun immediately with dribble and Joe.
- 21:25SPEAKER_04: So your memes were on point with that, by the way.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, I only want to take a little bit of credit, but it was it was good stuff.
- 21:31SPEAKER_05: Yes, the the the meme to end uh end the game.
- 21:34SPEAKER_05: Uh that was all you, but yes, I I love my memes because it's the pop pop.
- 21:40SPEAKER_05: Where's the the pop rocks?
- 21:41SPEAKER_05: You know, with everything considering, I I kind of I kind of held out for that one, but you know, as we go on, we'll see.
- 21:47SPEAKER_05: But uh, but no, plenty of memes to go around, especially President Washington, who my man, the big man down low, had himself a night five for five from the field, played tremendous defense.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Defense.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Um, absolutely ate Kaden Shedrick's lunch this game.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: Uh President Washington.
- 22:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, with your superimposed face with his powdered wig and all.
- 22:12SPEAKER_05: He's got the earring in.
- 22:13SPEAKER_05: It's great.
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: Fantastic work.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: With the white, you can see the white guy neck behind it and everything.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: Um he had the picture of the night, dude.
- 22:24SPEAKER_04: I did you see that photo of him silencing the crowd with the horns down?
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: That is a top 10 horns down moment in Texas Tech history, I must say.
- 22:32SPEAKER_05: It was.
- 22:33SPEAKER_05: It probably top five.
- 22:34SPEAKER_05: I mean, yeah, it was really cool.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: There was there was somebody on Twitter, and I can't remember who it was at this point, but uh they made a good point where it was like, Hey, these guys are first-year Texas Tech players in a lot of these cases.
- 22:48SPEAKER_05: These guys are at Texas Tech for one single season, and they're embracing what the rivalry is with Texas and throw the horns down, you know, compete at the highest level because you know this fan base wants to beat that team, yeah, and you're really feeding into it, and they fed into it.
- 23:06SPEAKER_05: I mean, you saw it with Chance McMillan, you saw it with Warren, you saw it with Joe Tucson.
- 23:10SPEAKER_05: I mean, those guys wanted to beat Texas because they are Texas Tech, even if it's for a year, even if if it's for multiple.
- 23:19SPEAKER_05: I like I was really happy with the effort that these guys showed.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, man.
- 23:24SPEAKER_04: Uh, you you could definitely feel with the way they played and the way they they went out there and really dominated this game, is that a lot of that was definitely for the fans.
- 23:32SPEAKER_04: Like they really it really felt like that was for the fans.
- 23:34SPEAKER_04: I know that's selfish to say, you know, they're obviously trying to win for their team, but that really felt like it was for the fans with the with the show they put on, you know, and throwing the horns down and everything and beating the team that we despise the most.
- 23:45SPEAKER_04: Um, and it it's not to go off too uh too off topic with it, but we if you want a jolt to get the USA popping again, go beat UT.
- 23:55SPEAKER_04: And now we're gonna have our our student section rock in again, man.
- 23:58SPEAKER_04: It's gonna, it's gonna look good.
- 23:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's gonna be fun.
- 24:01SPEAKER_05: I think this game kind of ignited that.
- 24:03SPEAKER_05: Hasn't been the best of crowds uh for the early non-conference games for Texas Tech Basketball.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: That's uh that's uh you know not uncommon for a first year head coach starting over at a program that was pretty bad last year.
- 24:17SPEAKER_05: So, you know, it's it's gonna happen.
- 24:19SPEAKER_05: You gotta build it up, you gotta build that confidence with the fan base back.
- 24:22SPEAKER_05: And if you're in Lubbock, Texas on Tuesday, show up to that game.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, it also it's it's not like the non-conference games.
- 24:30SPEAKER_05: No, you didn't you didn't have a yeah, you didn't have a killer opponent, you know, you're not playing the SEC Big 12 game anymore, so it's not like you had that.
- 24:39SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, you went to the Bahamas this year for a lot of the non-conference, so yeah, it's it was gonna happen.
- 24:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the amount of ranked teams you're gonna be hosting alone will just really it won't be an issue, yeah, for sure.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: And then you know, you start scheduling opponents like Grant McCastlin already has with the renewed Texas AM basketball.
- 24:58SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 24:59SPEAKER_04: Thank you for bringing that up.
- 25:00SPEAKER_04: Uh I I I I'm really excited about that.
- 25:03SPEAKER_04: I think you and I should make it to College Station for that game, um definitely if possible.
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: Um, and uh it's just it's so good to see Grant McCastlin opening the book like that.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was the first time we played AM in basketball, probably any major sport in a very long time.
- 25:19SPEAKER_04: And it was Grant McCastlin and Scrimmage and winning that game.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: Um, and it's so fun to see him, you know, booking our biggest rivals in in the games, you know, and uh yeah, it gives me hope that perhaps, especially in a sport like basketball, maybe this opens the door for us, you know, maintaining something with UT as well, you know, dropping in every once in a while to get a game going.
- 25:41SPEAKER_04: Um, because I I want those games to happen.
- 25:43SPEAKER_04: I want to play UT and AM in every sport, anytime we can.
- 25:46SPEAKER_04: So I I really hope that's kind of like a signal that Grant McCasslin really wants to do that.
- 25:51SPEAKER_04: He really wants to get these big matchups that fans will really care about.
- 25:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_05: And time heals all wounds.
- 25:57SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think we all recognize that.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's pretty heated right now between tech and UT, uh, especially because of everything that's developed over the last couple years.
- 26:07SPEAKER_05: But um, you know, eventually they'll get to playing each other again.
- 26:10SPEAKER_05: I'm not too worried about it.
- 26:11SPEAKER_05: Uh I don't think this is the last time we're playing UT in Austin in basketball or anything like that.
- 26:16SPEAKER_05: So um, but yeah, that big big time, uh, big time for them for scheduling that home and home with AM.
- 26:23SPEAKER_05: Um, back to the game.
- 26:25SPEAKER_05: Darien Williams.
- 26:26SPEAKER_05: I just got to talk about it for a second.
- 26:28SPEAKER_05: He had the game defining play, 445 left in the game.
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: It's 6661 tech.
- 26:34SPEAKER_05: Um, this is where McCasslin, this is where I really like to see him because immediately he recognizes what's going on on the offensive end.
- 26:42SPEAKER_05: Tech has the ball.
- 26:43SPEAKER_05: He sees Brock Cunningham on Darien Williams alone in the paint, and he points directly to him.
- 26:49SPEAKER_05: He's like, get the ball to that right there.
- 26:53SPEAKER_05: He's gonna make it work.
- 26:54SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 26:55SPEAKER_05: And he he sees and he points directly to him.
- 26:58SPEAKER_05: Uh, ball makes his way over to the left side to Kerwin, entry pass inside to Darien.
- 27:03SPEAKER_05: Um, Warren, Pop, and McMillan are all outside of the paint.
- 27:07SPEAKER_05: They're all they recognize it.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: They're like, we don't want our man, our defender, to go help side to go help Brock play Darien Williams.
- 27:15SPEAKER_05: And then everybody recognize it.
- 27:17SPEAKER_05: It's Darien versus Brock, 1v1.
- 27:20SPEAKER_05: There ain't no chance in hell that Brock Cunningham is gonna guard and out muscle Darien Williams down in the paint, gets an and one, Cunningham fouls out, zero points, bum.
- 27:31SPEAKER_05: We're out here.
- 27:32SPEAKER_05: Darien Williams.
- 27:34SPEAKER_05: We go up uh 69-61 after the free throw, and that was just it from there.
- 27:38SPEAKER_05: That was the game defining play for me.
- 27:40SPEAKER_04: The uh the relationship Brock Cunningham and Texas Tech have has to be like one of the funniest things in rivalry history.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: It's he he's he's so buns, Steven Buns.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: Stephen, I didn't realize it until I was looking at the stat sheet.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: He was in there for 32 minutes.
- 27:58SPEAKER_05: He what I Ryan Mainville Rodney, Ryan Mainville had uh had a good tweet, and I mean this guy's this guy's a basketball mind, he knows what he's talking about, and when he's saying Brock Cunningham plays entirely way too many minutes, he does, he plays way too many minutes.
- 28:18SPEAKER_05: Listen, I get the culture thing, I you know, whatever, but the dude is not great at basketball, like he's a fine defender at times, he does hustle, he does those, you know, tries to save the ball on the inbound when there's no chance and falls on the ground real hard.
- 28:34SPEAKER_05: And everybody's like, Oh, cool, Brock Cunningham, he's the culture guy, and Frank Shilla won't shut up about it.
- 28:40SPEAKER_05: And it's like, oh my, he's not good, like he's not a good basketball player, and I love that he played 32 minutes against Texas Tech because I want him on the floor because he is an absolute matchup nightmare when you get somebody that's even halfway competent down there in the paint and just realizes, hey, I can outmuscle this dude, he's not very big, he's not very strong, and I'm gonna get it, I'm gonna get him to make a mistake because he's not very basketball savvy.
- 29:08SPEAKER_04: Do you do you think that he is this an I I'm obviously I don't watch UT basketball?
- 29:14SPEAKER_04: Was he in longer because it was against us?
- 29:18SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 29:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, UT's pulled that stuff.
- 29:20SPEAKER_05: I don't think Terry's that type of guy.
- 29:21SPEAKER_05: I thought I think Beard was that type of guy to throw in Avery Benson there at the beginning of the game when you know it's funny and he sucked.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we cool.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: We won, by the way.
- 29:31SPEAKER_05: You got us.
- 29:32SPEAKER_05: You played you played the 12th man on the team.
- 29:35SPEAKER_05: Congratulations.
- 29:36SPEAKER_05: No, I I think sadly, and this is more of a testament to UT's roster, he kind of has to play at times because they don't really have another at times, Steven.
- 29:46SPEAKER_05: 32 minutes is at times.
- 29:48SPEAKER_05: He plays a lot, he plays a lot.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: Uh, because they don't really have another option out there, and you know, he does hustle every time he's in there, he gets some rebounds, but uh you can't really trust some of the other guys to not make you know some of the defensive lapses and mistakes that he makes, I guess.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: But no, he plays entirely way too much uh on this UT team.
- 30:08SPEAKER_05: If they want to get anywhere, they can't be playing Brock Cunningham 32 minutes a night.
- 30:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, absolutely, man.
- 30:14SPEAKER_04: Dude, can I talk about my favorite part about this game?
- 30:17SPEAKER_05: Go ahead.
- 30:18SPEAKER_04: My favorite part about this game was the amount of turnovers we forced.
- 30:23SPEAKER_04: We forced 14, but it's not just forcing the turnovers, which is obviously a win in itself.
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: You know, you're keeping them off the the scoreboard that way, but we scored 23 points off of turnovers.
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: That is a chunk of change, my man.
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: That is nearly that is more than a quarter of your points.
- 30:41SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: That that rules.
- 30:43SPEAKER_04: That's that's awesome basketball.
- 30:45SPEAKER_04: That's awesome defense and offense combination right there.
- 30:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's just taking advantage of mistakes, and that's how you win basketball games.
- 30:51SPEAKER_05: I mean, when when a team is going to turn the ball over 13, 14, whatever times, you have to take advantage of those and score on the other end and make them feel it.
- 30:59SPEAKER_05: And tech did they did a great job of that.
- 31:02SPEAKER_05: Um, Joe Tucson was a big part of that.
- 31:05SPEAKER_05: You know, just I'm I'm just I'm really happy.
- 31:09SPEAKER_05: I'm really happy with how this team is performing.
- 31:11SPEAKER_05: I like I don't know if it's because I didn't have a lot of expectations going into this year or what, but I'm just I'm thrilled with it, man.
- 31:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, me too, dude.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: Uh it just a blast of a game.
- 31:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I thought I thought the bench played really well too, just to kind of end it off here.
- 31:26SPEAKER_05: I chance McMillan off the bench had 11 points at two really heat check threes, one from like four feet beyond the three-point line.
- 31:34SPEAKER_05: Um, threes when it mattered.
- 31:35SPEAKER_05: I mean, they hit a big three.
- 31:36SPEAKER_05: We went right back at him with a big three.
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: He obviously, Chance McMillan had the big dunk at the end of the game to put us up 10 with about four minutes left.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: Uh, Bob Jennings, Bob freaking Jennings played some good minutes off the bench, and that's what he's gonna have to do with Devin Cambridge being out for the year.
- 31:54SPEAKER_05: He came in there and it mattered.
- 31:56SPEAKER_05: Like, he got two big blocks in there.
- 31:58SPEAKER_05: He got some rebounds, he uh got a tip in.
- 32:02SPEAKER_05: I like played good in the minutes that he was on the floor.
- 32:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, it's it's always good to see the bench come off and and really get it done.
- 32:11SPEAKER_04: Um, because they really, like you said, they really helped put it away, man.
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: And your boy Bob Jennings went 100% at the field, by the way.
- 32:16SPEAKER_04: Okay, nails two for two.
- 32:19SPEAKER_05: Bob Jennings.
- 32:20SPEAKER_05: That that's just how he do.
- 32:22SPEAKER_05: That's just what he do, Bob Jennings.
- 32:24SPEAKER_05: He's fine, but uh in all honesty, he's getting some confidence in him, and that's great.
- 32:28SPEAKER_05: It's a great sign because you really need him here in the future, especially faith in your boy Bob.
- 32:33SPEAKER_05: No, I was I was losing a little faith.
- 32:35SPEAKER_05: I was losing a little faith.
- 32:37SPEAKER_05: Um it didn't look good to start, it didn't look good, but he's back, he's here if he's playing 12-15 minutes a night.
- 32:45SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, he's gonna play some bigger minutes if Warren gets in foul trouble.
- 32:49SPEAKER_05: Um, down low.
- 32:51SPEAKER_05: I thought he handled uh Kaden Shedrick and Dylan Disu really well on the defensive end.
- 32:56SPEAKER_05: So uh shout out, Bob.
- 32:58SPEAKER_05: Lamar also played good in minimal minutes off the bench.
- 33:01SPEAKER_05: So shout out to the bench.
- 33:03SPEAKER_04: Shout out to the boys.
- 33:05SPEAKER_04: Immaculate win for the last time in the moody for a good long while.
- 33:09SPEAKER_04: Bless the mood.
- 33:11SPEAKER_04: Bless the mood, kinda.
- 33:14SPEAKER_04: Bless the mood.
- 33:16SPEAKER_05: Bless the moody.
- 33:16SPEAKER_05: It's been great.
- 33:17SPEAKER_04: Um we can't leave basketball without discussing our feelings about the future opponents.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: Okay, go ahead.
- 33:26SPEAKER_04: Oklahoma City, Kansas State.
- 33:28SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 33:28SPEAKER_04: Two home games.
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: We are we are gonna host both of those boys.
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: How do we feel?
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, neither are ranked, but they are a Big 12 talent that we're hosting in here.
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm happy about is that Pop Isaacs isn't gonna get booed as hard as he got booed against Texas.
- 33:45SPEAKER_05: He's got two straight home games, and by the time we play another away game, it's gonna be kind of out of the news, which is a good thing.
- 33:52SPEAKER_05: Uh, with the news coming out Friday and then playing on Saturday, that wasn't great for that atmosphere.
- 33:58SPEAKER_05: I am glad that these next two games are at home.
- 34:02SPEAKER_05: Oklahoma State, uh, tight one against Baylor uh in Stillwater, which was, you know, it was a good showing.
- 34:09SPEAKER_05: It Baylor's a good team, a little fraudulent, if you're talking to me.
- 34:13SPEAKER_05: But you can't take Oklahoma State lightly.
- 34:17SPEAKER_05: I don't think Graham McCassin's gonna have his team take Oklahoma State lightly, or lightly.
- 34:21SPEAKER_05: He's already said it in the press conference that he just had.
- 34:26SPEAKER_05: You can't get too high after one Big 12 win.
- 34:29SPEAKER_05: You got 18 or you're 17 more of these coming up.
- 34:33SPEAKER_05: Um, and Oklahoma State, despite being the number, I think, 97 team from Ken Pom, you know, they still got some dudes and they can still hit you in the mouth.
- 34:44SPEAKER_05: They're they got some good shooters.
- 34:45SPEAKER_05: Um, they have a nice young big guy, so you can't take this team lightly.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, any night in this in this in this conference is going to be a dog fight, but it's we're lying if we say that they don't have some rough looking wins here, losses here.
- 35:01SPEAKER_04: I mean, opening loss to Avalon Christian.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, ACU go go Wildcats.
- 35:07SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh and no the Notre Dame Irish suck.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: This is I I I don't know if Southern Illinois is anything, but I'm sure they're buttons, it generally, like relatively speaking.
- 35:17SPEAKER_05: They're not horrible.
- 35:18SPEAKER_05: Southern Illinois, I think, was the 95 team, which isn't fantastic, but there's also 300 and whatever teams in college basketball.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: So all right, so top third team.
- 35:27SPEAKER_04: All right, and I couldn't tell you their mascot, but I'm sure you know the go go fight in southern Illinois.
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: But um, and like you said, the a tough loss down to the wire against Baylor, but still, yeah.
- 35:37SPEAKER_04: I mean, just I just hope we're ready, but I feel pretty good about this.
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: I think it's a great game to have after a tough road game.
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: Um, if you're really breaking it down.
- 35:44SPEAKER_04: So hopefully our crowds rock it and we we just get over with the uh Oklahoma State guys.
- 35:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think it's gonna come down to coaching.
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: Uh, I think Ray McCasslin is a much better coach than Mike Boyden is.
- 35:54SPEAKER_05: Uh Mike Boyden has heavily disappointed at Oklahoma State.
- 35:57SPEAKER_05: He's dealt with some stuff at Oklahoma State that's out of his control, but uh he's had some talent on those teams and he has not done much with it.
- 36:05SPEAKER_05: So I don't believe in Mike Boyden, the head coach.
- 36:07SPEAKER_05: Um, so you know, I I just think this should be a pretty easy win for Texas Tech.
- 36:13SPEAKER_05: So that's just my prediction.
- 36:15SPEAKER_04: You're a Boyden hater.
- 36:16SPEAKER_05: I am.
- 36:17SPEAKER_05: I'm a Boyden hater.
- 36:18SPEAKER_04: You've been a Boyden hater for a while.
- 36:20SPEAKER_05: I like the guy, like as a person.
- 36:22SPEAKER_05: I don't think anybody dislikes Mike Boyden as the person, but he is so like people want him to succeed so much, they falsely, you know, they look at him in a light that he doesn't deserve.
- 36:33SPEAKER_05: He's not a good head coach, he hasn't been a good head coach at Oklahoma State, and I'm not a bad person for stating the obvious.
- 36:40SPEAKER_05: Well, you're a bad person.
- 36:42SPEAKER_05: That's me.
- 36:42SPEAKER_05: Everyone likes him but you.
- 36:44SPEAKER_05: That's me.
- 36:45SPEAKER_05: The worst.
- 36:45SPEAKER_05: I hate Mike Boynton.
- 36:46SPEAKER_05: No, I like I like Mike Boynton, the dude.
- 36:49SPEAKER_05: I don't, I don't like Mike Boynton, the basketball coach.
- 36:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: All right, what about K State?
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: Well, obviously a better team than Oklahoma State, you know, and with with Tang's obviously, you know, had a pretty good success so far at Kansas State, but they look shaky.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: I mean, they don't they don't look quite as strong this year, no?
- 37:04SPEAKER_05: They do.
- 37:04SPEAKER_05: I mean, they opened up against UCF.
- 37:06SPEAKER_05: You can't really take much from that game.
- 37:08SPEAKER_05: UCF is horrible.
- 37:09SPEAKER_04: UCF is the Big 12's chew toy now, like in basketball.
- 37:13SPEAKER_04: You know, they are everyone's like, oh, thank God, it's just UCF.
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: UCF is in for a rude, rude awakening.
- 37:20SPEAKER_05: Um, can't state 11 and 3.
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: It's not like they're garbage, you know.
- 37:24SPEAKER_05: They've they've blown one to USC, and USC is not very good this year.
- 37:28SPEAKER_05: Uh, they but that was first game of the season.
- 37:30SPEAKER_05: They lost pretty good to them.
- 37:32SPEAKER_05: They also lost to Miami, they lost to Nebraska, who is not pretty bad.
- 37:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, 62-46.
- 37:39SPEAKER_05: I mean, that was that's bad.
- 37:40SPEAKER_05: This team looks like it has hard time scoring.
- 37:42SPEAKER_05: This Kansas State team.
- 37:44SPEAKER_05: Yes, this can't, and they had to replace a lot.
- 37:46SPEAKER_05: I mean, they they replaced, I think, four of their five starters, if not three of their five.
- 37:50SPEAKER_05: Um, they've dealt with some off-the-court stuff.
- 37:52SPEAKER_05: The Naquan Tomlin situation was uh was sticky.
- 37:56SPEAKER_05: Uh, I don't know if you remember that, but going through Kansas State Twitter during that whole situation, there was like the university president was basically kicked the guy who kicked them off the team instead of the head coach, instead of the AD, you know.
- 38:08SPEAKER_05: So uh very, very weird uh vibes going on with Kansas State right now.
- 38:13SPEAKER_05: I think they're a fine team.
- 38:15SPEAKER_05: Uh, they have some talent and they can outshoot you on a good night, but uh, you know, it they're gonna have to put up some consistency before I really give Kansas State the nod that they had last year.
- 38:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's probably the problem is consistency when we're looking at these scores.
- 38:30SPEAKER_04: It looks like one night they'll score a score 100 and the other they'll score score 46.
- 38:34SPEAKER_04: Like yeesh.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: Um, the only thing that kind of worries me is they have West Virginia decks, and West Virginia is kind of showing to be a little buns.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: Um, and not it's been kind of a tough situation over there in Morgantown.
- 38:46SPEAKER_04: So I don't I don't blame them.
- 38:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, we do have uh dribbling Joe because of it.
- 38:50SPEAKER_04: Um, so they're gonna be feeling good about themselves.
- 38:52SPEAKER_04: So they're all they're probably gonna beat West Virginia, so they're gonna be coming in pretty high on a what would be a four-win uh streak.
- 38:59SPEAKER_04: So they'd be feeling themselves.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: I can either go good or bad, but obviously it's gonna be a tougher opponent than uh Oglova State.
- 39:05SPEAKER_05: West Virginia lost by 34 to Houston.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Good lord! Uh then again, Houston is what officially the number one team in the country or no?
- 39:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Noel, no, they're number two.
- 39:15SPEAKER_05: I think they got up to two, they got up to two.
- 39:18SPEAKER_05: Um, West Virginia five and nine on the year.
- 39:22SPEAKER_05: Yikes! Worse team than Big 12, I'm assuming.
- 39:25SPEAKER_05: Again, no, UCF.
- 39:27SPEAKER_05: No, UCF, of course that game.
- 39:29SPEAKER_05: West Virginia versus UCF is gonna be a barn burner.
- 39:32SPEAKER_05: I'm excited about that one.
- 39:34SPEAKER_05: Uh no, but uh I think the last point on here is is a little bit of a reunion.
- 39:41SPEAKER_05: Grant McCastlin uh playing against Kansas State.
- 39:44SPEAKER_05: Kansas State now, of course, has Tyler Perry, who was on North Texas last year, part of that NIT run for the mean green.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: Um, so that'll be fun.
- 39:52SPEAKER_05: It'll be good to see uh if if he made the right choice.
- 39:55SPEAKER_05: Obviously, there was some talk in the offseason.
- 39:57SPEAKER_05: Why didn't Texas Tech get Tyler Perry?
- 39:59SPEAKER_05: You know, that Grant McCastlin should have got his guy from that he just coached at North Texas.
- 40:04SPEAKER_05: And I think there was a little bit of, hey, we have Pop Isaacs, we're okay, you know, type of thing from Grant McCastlin, which so far it's kind of working out that way.
- 40:12SPEAKER_05: Tyler Perry did have a good game against UCF, but otherwise has kind of struggled this year.
- 40:17SPEAKER_05: So, you know, I I think uh I think he made the right call.
- 40:20SPEAKER_04: Is this the same Tyler Perry of the African American comedy phenom?
- 40:24SPEAKER_05: Yes, this is the same Tyler Perry from Medea Goes to Jail.
- 40:33SPEAKER_05: I think I made that joke last year when the rumors were swirling that McCasslin was going to be the new head coach at Texas Tech.
- 40:40SPEAKER_05: I was just like, can't wait for Tyler Perry comes to Lubbock.
- 40:43SPEAKER_05: Tyler Perry goes to bun bumass Kansas State.
- 40:47SPEAKER_05: Goes to Manhattan, Kansas.
- 40:51SPEAKER_05: Oh in our ivory tower of Lubbock.
- 40:55SPEAKER_05: Oh, we love it.
- 40:56SPEAKER_05: We love it so much.
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: Um, anything else, basketball-wise, sir?
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: I think we can hop off the hardcourt.
- 41:03SPEAKER_05: Very nice.
- 41:04SPEAKER_05: Joey McGuire won his third straight bowl game against the mighty Cal Golden Bears in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl in Treeport, Louisiana.
- 41:12SPEAKER_05: Can you suck it nerds?
- 41:14SPEAKER_05: Suck it nerds.
- 41:16SPEAKER_05: Texas Tech won football this year.
- 41:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, dude.
- 41:20SPEAKER_05: Everybody wants to be in Treeport at the end of the year, and Texas Tech was in Treeport and won.
- 41:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we won.
- 41:25SPEAKER_05: Put it, put it on the stadium.
- 41:27SPEAKER_05: Put the head on the banner.
- 41:29SPEAKER_04: Literally, everybody wants to be the independence bull because it's celebrating the independence of the United States of America, the oldest and greatest country on the planet.
- 41:38SPEAKER_04: So that's where literally everybody wants to be come the end of the year.
- 41:43SPEAKER_04: Somehow the nerds got in there, probably through some Astro Business Kicks bullshit, the catalog crap.
- 41:50SPEAKER_04: But we did it, buddy.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: And Aaron Rodgers is still crying over Texas Tech to this day.
- 41:56SPEAKER_05: He is, he's crying over Aaron Rodgers.
- 41:58SPEAKER_05: Uh or he's Aaron Rodgers over himself.
- 42:01SPEAKER_05: He's crying over himself.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: He wants to be in the media, he's gotta make it about himself.
- 42:06SPEAKER_05: Aaron Rodgers was so upset after Texas Tech throttled the Cal Golden Bears.
- 42:11SPEAKER_05: Um, they didn't even get his comment on it.
- 42:13SPEAKER_05: It was surprising, you know.
- 42:14SPEAKER_04: They knew not to.
- 42:16SPEAKER_05: He had nothing to say because he would have just said, like, uh, you know, Joey McGuire belongs on the Epstein list or something like that.
- 42:23SPEAKER_05: That but no, I I mean, all honesty, you won a bowl game for the third straight year.
- 42:30SPEAKER_05: It's something to build upon.
- 42:32SPEAKER_05: Yes, it's not the bowl game that you wanted to be in.
- 42:34SPEAKER_05: Yes, you won seven games.
- 42:36SPEAKER_05: Uh, you know, everybody was expecting a little more this year, but hey, you're ending on a high note, and uh, you know, you just take that into next year.
- 42:43SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, dude.
- 42:44SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's well, you you're one of four teams that have won a bowl game three years in a row.
- 42:49SPEAKER_04: And I mean, that sounds kind of crazy, but are we we end the season with a winning record, and you love that.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: I mean, with the way the football program has been, obviously, this football season was a bit of a disappointment, but all considered over the decade here, you're you're very happy with saying that out loud that it's another year of a winning record, it's a th it's a uh third year in a row of winning a bowl game.
- 43:12SPEAKER_04: Um, you're heading into the postseason with a lot of energy.
- 43:15SPEAKER_04: I mean, you land a whole bunch of transfers, your recruiting classes looking fabulous.
- 43:19SPEAKER_04: So the vibes are back high on football.
- 43:22SPEAKER_04: And buddy, there's no higher time to be on Texas Tech football than the offseason.
- 43:26SPEAKER_04: So bring it on.
- 43:27SPEAKER_04: Let's go.
- 43:29SPEAKER_05: Bring it on, let's go.
- 43:30SPEAKER_05: We do have a top 25 class this year.
- 43:33SPEAKER_05: That is big time for what we have been in recruiting for football.
- 43:38SPEAKER_05: We landed our first true five star ever at Texas Tech coming in with Micah Hudson.
- 43:43SPEAKER_04: Steven, the number one recruit in the entire state of Texas.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: Number one recruit in the entire state of Texas.
- 43:49SPEAKER_05: Will Hammond, quarterback of the future, Ellis Davis, a four star lineman, Cheeto Feely, the edge rush guy.
- 43:57SPEAKER_05: We got like three six foot four and up.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: Edge rush guys.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: I mean, you have a lot to look forward to with this class.
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: It's it's really exciting.
- 44:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:06SPEAKER_04: I mean, one one five star, and that's four four stars on according to rivals here on a quick glimpse.
- 44:12SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: Buddy, I am so excited for football to come back around.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: And I mean, with the basketball's adding to these good feels along with that bowl game, but gosh, man, I I I'm just I'm I'm elated with it right now.
- 44:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no doubt.
- 44:26SPEAKER_05: I mean, it always starts in the offseason.
- 44:28SPEAKER_05: You're drinking the Kool-Aid.
- 44:29SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 44:30SPEAKER_05: Off season's my game time, dude.
- 44:31SPEAKER_05: Oh, the off-season, I mean, in two weeks, you're gonna say we're natty, you know, we're gonna continue.
- 44:36SPEAKER_05: Oh, we're natty bounds.
- 44:37SPEAKER_05: We're you're maybe you're already saying it.
- 44:41SPEAKER_05: But yes, I mean, mix between the freshman class, which a lot of these guys are not gonna play, maybe besides Micah Hudson, he's he's probably gonna get some good snaps immediately.
- 44:51SPEAKER_05: But you know, these other guys you're not gonna see for a couple years, and that's just fine.
- 44:55SPEAKER_05: Uh, you got some good portal ads, man.
- 44:57SPEAKER_05: You added 15 players from the transfer portal from all sorts of different areas.
- 45:01SPEAKER_05: Um, I think the most notable, we'll just hit on those few.
- 45:04SPEAKER_05: Josh Kelly, uh, the wide receiver out of Washington State, had a really good season last year, 900 plus receiving yards um over there for the Cougars.
- 45:13SPEAKER_05: Vinny Scurry, um, and Davion Carter there at the offensive line.
- 45:17SPEAKER_05: Maurice Rodriguez at the offensive line.
- 45:19SPEAKER_05: These are all guys that are gonna compete for immediate starting spots here at Texas Tech for next season.
- 45:25SPEAKER_05: Jalen Conyers, the tight end from Arizona State, he's gonna be a guy who's gonna get some snaps.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, it's just a lot to be excited about.
- 45:33SPEAKER_05: A lot of guys that have a lot of talent, have the measurables that Joey McGuire and staff are looking for and to compete in a power conference.
- 45:44SPEAKER_05: So uh just just a lot of excitement going around football.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, with this is obviously an area where Joe Maguire has proven he's a winner, and that is recruiting both high school and transfer portal now.
- 45:56SPEAKER_04: So I'm really excited to see what we can do with this on the gridiron come come uh next August.
- 46:02SPEAKER_04: But dude, it's just the vibes are high, the feelings are good.
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: Um, but and I think that's really all to say about this.
- 46:08SPEAKER_04: I mean, you really couldn't ask for a better end for the football season.
- 46:11SPEAKER_05: No, yeah, exactly.
- 46:12SPEAKER_05: I mean, we'll obviously get into the off-season football content um as we get into the dog days of summer when it comes to sports favorite time, baby.
- 46:21SPEAKER_05: Your favorite time, baby.
- 46:22SPEAKER_05: We're gonna break down people.
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: Texas Tech is gonna be number one in the country.
- 46:27SPEAKER_05: Uh, come the second week of college football season 2024.
- 46:31SPEAKER_05: We're very excited about everything.
- 46:33SPEAKER_05: But um, anything else you want to touch on on football?
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh, just I hope when we come back to that point that we're not nearly as hot takey with our record predictions and such.
- 46:42SPEAKER_04: Yes, but we'll be more measured anyway.
- 46:45SPEAKER_04: This um, yeah.
- 46:48SPEAKER_04: But hey, one last thing with football before we leave here.
- 46:51SPEAKER_04: Um Matt Wells is staying with us, he's remaining in our atmosphere.
- 46:59SPEAKER_05: The meme is dead, sort of I can't yeah.
- 47:03SPEAKER_05: When once he starts getting those uh those head coaching opportunities again, that's when the meme will come back.
- 47:09SPEAKER_04: Was it just kind of a for all intents of what purposes, an unemployed meme?
- 47:14SPEAKER_04: Because I mean, I know he was an analyst for OU, but like was it like because he was unemployed, or does it get the carry-on over more uh jobs open up?
- 47:22SPEAKER_05: It was more like the meme started when you know he started getting head coaching like buzz because it always happens when one guy sucks at a power five program or something, eventually, like you know, a uh Sunbelt team or whoever is gonna be like, Oh, you know, former Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells getting attention over here, and it just started like lol, good luck, you know, sort of thing from me.
- 47:47SPEAKER_05: But then as it came on, every time he was mentioned in any headline for any position, it was like put put that logo on the Matt Wells template and let's ride.
- 47:56SPEAKER_05: But uh, but no, I mean, all things considered, he's a good dude.
- 48:00SPEAKER_05: I think we all we we all don't, you know, hate Matt Wells the person.
- 48:04SPEAKER_05: We really disliked Matt Wells, the head coach, which is very fair.
- 48:09SPEAKER_05: Um, how will he do in a coordinator role?
- 48:12SPEAKER_05: I have no idea.
- 48:13SPEAKER_05: We had some pretty terrible offenses at Texas Tech while he was uh you know the head coach.
- 48:19SPEAKER_05: So he's gonna be the new offensive coordinator at Kansas State.
- 48:22SPEAKER_05: Um, we'll see.
- 48:24SPEAKER_05: Kansas State fans are really, I think, grasping at straws a little bit when they're trying to look at uh when they're trying to look at the success of Matt Wells and oh Jordan Love, how about you?
- 48:34SPEAKER_05: Utah State.
- 48:35SPEAKER_05: It's like, well, pay attention to anything he did at Texas Tech, and you might not be as thrilled.
- 48:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, no.
- 48:41SPEAKER_04: And it kind of adds up that he went to Kansas State.
- 48:44SPEAKER_04: Apparently, um and Kleiman are actually really good friends.
- 48:47SPEAKER_04: Apparently, they're they're really actually they were constant in constant communication over he's the head coach at Texas Tech.
- 48:51SPEAKER_04: I remember explicitly it was asked, like, who's who's your favorite coach in the Big 12?
- 48:56SPEAKER_04: And they said each other.
- 48:57SPEAKER_04: So apparently they're actually good friends.
- 48:59SPEAKER_04: So this does not seem like a huge surprise.
- 49:02SPEAKER_05: No, it's not a huge surprise, and he's got a lot to work with.
- 49:04SPEAKER_05: I mean, they have a young stud in Avery Johnson over there at that quarterback position.
- 49:09SPEAKER_05: So he's got uh, you know, a really nice weapon to work with there.
- 49:13SPEAKER_05: Do we play K 8 next year?
- 49:15SPEAKER_05: We uh I I want to say we do in Manhattan.
- 49:23SPEAKER_05: We don't play he won't come back to Lubbock until 2027.
- 49:26SPEAKER_05: I remember looking up that, but I think I think we play Kansas could wait.
- 49:32SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 49:33SPEAKER_05: We're taking a we're taking a year off of Kansas State next year, and then the following year we will play them in Manhattan.
- 49:39SPEAKER_05: Gotcha.
- 49:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but they were one of the only few that we got like twice in the next four years.
- 49:46SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 49:46SPEAKER_05: So that's okay with me, dude.
- 49:48SPEAKER_05: That's good.
- 49:49SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm tired of seeing K-State, to be honest.
- 49:52SPEAKER_05: Yes, I it's always an L.
- 49:53SPEAKER_05: I'm so sick of losing to that.
- 49:55SPEAKER_05: Always an L team.
- 49:57SPEAKER_05: And if we lose to that team while Matt Wells is on the opposite sideline, I will be upset.
- 50:02SPEAKER_05: Um, we are gonna get a reunion though next year with Dr.
- 50:10SPEAKER_05: Alan Bowman coming or no, I'm sorry, we are going to Stillwater next year.
- 50:16SPEAKER_05: Alan Bowman was granted his seventh year of eligibility.
- 50:19SPEAKER_04: That's Dr.
- 50:19SPEAKER_04: Bowman to use.
- 50:21SPEAKER_05: Dr.
- 50:21SPEAKER_05: Bowman is going to be slinging the rock against Texas Tech in Stillwater next year.
- 50:26SPEAKER_05: Uh, we I thought we were gonna avoid him, but the football gods wanted it to happen.
- 50:32SPEAKER_04: It's pretty funny watching Oklahoma State fans react to this.
- 50:35SPEAKER_04: They're like, what are we doing?
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: Like, we're this this man's in a retirement home and we're making our young guys transfer away.
- 50:45SPEAKER_04: Like, it's I I get it.
- 50:46SPEAKER_04: Like, I can get how that'd be frustrating.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: Like, what are we doing, like wasting our time on a seventh-year quarterback?
- 50:51SPEAKER_05: Well, look though, Bowman brought them to the Big 12 championship this year.
- 50:55SPEAKER_05: Like, there's no ifs, ands, or buts around it.
- 50:57SPEAKER_05: There was not a better quarterback on Oklahoma State's team than Alan Bowman.
- 51:01SPEAKER_05: And Alan Bowman is a talented quarterback.
- 51:03SPEAKER_05: I mean, we saw the glimpses win healthy at Texas Tech.
- 51:07SPEAKER_05: We didn't get to see it at Michigan because he transferred and was like the fourth string there for two years.
- 51:12SPEAKER_05: But you know, he ended up being pretty good for Oklahoma State last year.
- 51:16SPEAKER_05: And in that system with that coaching staff.
- 51:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, I I if I'm an Oklahoma State fan, I'm happy to get Alan Bowman back, especially getting a quarterback as experienced as my man is.
- 51:26SPEAKER_05: Seven years of college football is straight up ridiculous.
- 51:30SPEAKER_04: Can you believe saying that out loud?
- 51:32SPEAKER_04: Just how ludicrous that is.
- 51:34SPEAKER_04: Seven years.
- 51:35SPEAKER_05: He was in the same quarterback class as Trevor Lawrence.
- 51:38SPEAKER_05: Oh my god, dude.
- 51:40SPEAKER_05: I think Trevor Lawrence just went to his third or fourth year in Jacksonville.
- 51:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so that's all you know.
- 51:46SPEAKER_04: Homie better be getting his PhD.
- 51:49SPEAKER_04: You are wasting your years if you aren't.
- 51:53SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm curious how he got that extra year.
- 51:56SPEAKER_05: Because, like, I I was it a medical?
- 51:59SPEAKER_05: Because his lungs they're made of paper because of his lungs.
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: Duh.
- 52:06SPEAKER_04: Uh they're like, they they got the paper at the NCAA offense and said, Is that the lung guy?
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Go ahead and let him have it.
- 52:13SPEAKER_04: That's what they said.
- 52:15SPEAKER_05: Let him have it.
- 52:17SPEAKER_05: He ruptured his lung 15 times while he was at Texas Tech.
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: He just make a wish kid.
- 52:22SPEAKER_05: Let him have it.
- 52:25SPEAKER_05: He must have gotten something in Michigan.
- 52:27SPEAKER_05: He must have gotten hurt or something, like some injury.
- 52:31SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 52:33SPEAKER_05: No, okay.
- 52:34SPEAKER_05: So he played as a true freshman at Texas Tech when McClane Carter got hurt, and then he played basically, you know, four or five games of that year, and then eventually his lung collapsed, and then he had something else wrong with him, and then he broke something else.
- 52:49SPEAKER_05: And then he played again, you know, in the COVID year, the weird COVID year with him and Colombi switching back and forth.
- 52:57SPEAKER_04: Matt quarterback system of Matt Wells.
- 52:59SPEAKER_05: We need to make a 30 for 30 about the 2020 Texas Tech football team because that was just a mess.
- 53:07SPEAKER_05: Everything about it was a mess.
- 53:10SPEAKER_05: And we went to the game against Baylor in Lubbock, where freaking Garabay went and hit the game winner, and for some reason, like that whole thing was just a nightmare.
- 53:21SPEAKER_05: And that whole team looking back at it was just a mess.
- 53:23SPEAKER_05: But I honestly think Colin School is a god though.
- 53:27SPEAKER_05: Colin Schooler, big boom on Charlie Brewer.
- 53:29SPEAKER_05: He ended that man.
- 53:31SPEAKER_05: Um I know, I don't know.
- 53:33SPEAKER_05: I don't know how Alan Bowman is continuing to play, but he is cheating the system.
- 53:38SPEAKER_04: It's like I said, he's a make-a-wish kid, and they're they're they're granting him his his his wish.
- 53:43SPEAKER_05: The CAA is just like, let him have it.
- 53:46SPEAKER_05: You want an eighth year?
- 53:48SPEAKER_05: Come on down.
- 53:50SPEAKER_05: Oh man, I love it.
- 53:52SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 53:54SPEAKER_05: But I guess that's it, man.
- 53:56SPEAKER_05: You have anything else?
- 53:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think that's it, dude.
- 53:58SPEAKER_04: I mean, we've been going on an hour of nonsense.
- 54:01SPEAKER_05: Nonsense, nonsense.
- 54:02SPEAKER_05: Big win for Texas Tech basketball.
- 54:04SPEAKER_05: Show up if you can for the Oklahoma State game.
- 54:07SPEAKER_05: Show up if you can for the Kansas State game on Saturday.
- 54:10SPEAKER_05: Really excited for this team moving forward.
- 54:12SPEAKER_05: Um, all right, man.
- 54:13SPEAKER_05: Song of the week, quit.
- 54:14SPEAKER_04: All right, dude.
- 54:15SPEAKER_04: Song of the week, man.
- 54:16SPEAKER_04: I'm doing a uh Talking Tech Hall of Fame, meaning that it's you know, it's it's a band I really turned you on to, and I think it's just a spectacular music group, and that's gonna be uh The Wilder Blue off their new album, Supernatural, and featuring the literal biggest star in country music right now, Luke Combs.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: And it's called Seven Bridges Road.
- 54:43SPEAKER_04: Extended.
- 54:45SPEAKER_04: But Seven Bridges Road.
- 54:47SPEAKER_04: But I I it's just one of those awesome songs where it's one of those campfire, all the boys are around, or at like in a kind of like that pubby where all the boys are singing along with it, you know, and the harmonics, all that.
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: And you have freaking Luke Combs who's just on there because he likes the wilder blue.
- 55:02SPEAKER_04: You're the biggest thing in country music, and you go into this nobody banning comparison just because you want to be with them.
- 55:07SPEAKER_04: I think that's so rad.
- 55:08SPEAKER_04: I think that's such I think Luke, Luke's such a cool dude.
- 55:11SPEAKER_04: So Seven Bridges Road, Wilder Blue plus Luke Combs.
- 55:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I did I listened to that one.
- 55:28SPEAKER_05: It's a good song.
- 55:29SPEAKER_05: Uh the story was funny.
- 55:31SPEAKER_05: I I don't know where I saw it, it was on Twitter or something like that, where they were like, I don't know if Luke Combs DM'd them or if something of that came up and they were just like, I really like your stuff, and he's like, Let's record something together.
- 55:43SPEAKER_05: And then it took like multiple months for it to actually come true because obviously he's a busy dude.
- 55:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and uh yeah, no, it is cool.
- 55:51SPEAKER_05: It's it's cool when artists as big as him, yeah, you know, go and and and and record something with a band that he likes and that is actually good.
- 55:59SPEAKER_05: They're just not quite, you know, the limelight and the spotlight that uh other bands are getting right now.
- 56:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they don't have the sound for mainstream Nashville.
- 56:07SPEAKER_04: Um and it's uh Luke has proven to just be really cool at that, and I think it shows that he's a lover of the game, not the fame.
- 56:15SPEAKER_04: Like he he he just loves country music because he brings flat rant flatland around to open for him, and he could absolutely get bigger national names than Flatland Calvary, and I just think that's really awesome of him.
- 56:26SPEAKER_04: So, yeah, dude, I'm rolling with that one.
- 56:28SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 56:28SPEAKER_05: It's funny that you mentioned Flatland.
- 56:31SPEAKER_05: No way! Because I have chosen a Flatland Calvary song of all things.
- 56:38SPEAKER_05: Let's go okay.
- 56:40SPEAKER_05: So we went and saw the new Hunger Games movie not too long ago, and it was very good, by the way.
- 56:45SPEAKER_05: Not like I the Hunger Games, I like the first couple.
- 56:48SPEAKER_05: I didn't really watch the last two, you know, with Jennifer Lawrence and everything like that.
- 56:53SPEAKER_05: Uh, and so randomly my wife was just like, Hey, let's go see the new Hunger Games.
- 56:57SPEAKER_05: I was like, Great.
- 56:58SPEAKER_05: It ended up being awesome, like it really did.
- 57:00SPEAKER_05: It was a great, it's like a prequel to the you know already existing story.
- 57:05SPEAKER_05: It's about the like come-up of uh the president and everything like that.
- 57:09SPEAKER_05: It was it was really good.
- 57:10SPEAKER_05: And flatland Calvary is featured on the new Hunger Games like soundtrack, and I was I I don't remember hearing this song in the actual movie, but I was just going through that entire you know, disguise the the track list of every single song on that soundtrack, and flatland Calvary has a song called Wool on there, and it's just like it's so good.
- 57:36SPEAKER_05: I I am not a regular listener to Flatland Calvary.
- 57:40SPEAKER_05: I don't like I know Cleto Cordero, I know his sound, um, and everything, but I just don't listen to them very often.
- 57:46SPEAKER_05: But when I was going down the track list and I I clicked on it, I was like, oh man, this song kind of hits like it's it's very mellow, it's very like you're by the campfire, honestly.
- 57:57SPEAKER_05: And it's so good, and that's uh wool flatland cavalry monster.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: Take it out behind good choice, dude.
- 58:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, dude.
- 58:19SPEAKER_04: That if you look at that soundtrack, it's chock full of Americana country artists, like Flatland, Charles, uh Charles Wesley Godwin, and um uh Sarah Farrell.
- 58:29SPEAKER_04: Like it's it's full of just Americana artists.
- 58:31SPEAKER_04: It's it's it's cool to see on a movie like that where you just wouldn't expect that.
- 58:35SPEAKER_04: You you expect like tween pop music and all that.
- 58:38SPEAKER_04: Definitely and um that's cool, dude.
- 58:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, good choice, man.
- 58:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, I mean the the main girl in the Hunger Games movie is like she's a singer and she sings that kind of music.
- 58:48SPEAKER_05: It's like a super folky type of band, and she's actually a really good singer.
- 58:53SPEAKER_05: That's cool.
- 58:53SPEAKER_05: Um, no, it's I would definitely recommend both the song and the movie, but uh yeah, definitely a good one.
- 59:00SPEAKER_05: I think that was a banger of a song of the week, dog.
