- 0:00A strong mental consciousness and will may aid the individual
- 0:04in determining a way forward, but they are not the powers that
- 0:09can eventually succeed in the yogic process.
- 0:13If we view the yoga of nature, we find that as a new power
- 0:18emerges, it brings with it unique new ways of dealing with
- 0:23the need of the time and the evolutionary process as it takes
- 0:28shape at that moment. In his thoughts and glimpses,
- 0:33Sri Aurobindo states the case succinctly.
- 0:37Quote When we have passed beyond knowings, then we shall have
- 0:41knowledge. Reason was the helper.
- 0:44Reason is the bar. When we have passed beyond
- 0:48willings, then we shall have power.
- 0:52Effort was the helper. Effort is the bar.
- 0:56When we have passed beyond enjoyings, then we shall have
- 1:00bliss. Desire was the helper.
- 1:04Desire is the bar. When we have passed beyond
- 1:08individualizing, then we shall be real persons.
- 1:13Ego was the helper. Ego is the bar.
- 1:18When we have passed beyond humanity, then we shall be the
- 1:22man. The animal was the helper.
- 1:27The animal is the bar. End Quote.
- 1:32Spiritual development is not a mental process and eventually
- 1:37the mental understanding and will must agree to give way to a
- 1:41different form and way of knowing and being a way more
- 1:46aligned with the nature of the spiritual consciousness.
- 1:50This is most easily accomplished if the seeker can develop the
- 1:54power of aspiration and receptivity to the higher force
- 1:59and find a way to remain focused there rather than on the
- 2:03individual effort. In his Uttarpara speech, Sri
- 2:09Robindo relates an anecdote about the sedition trial he was
- 2:12undergoing before a judge representing the British Empire.
- 2:17He began to write out detailed points for his attorney, but
- 2:21then he received an inner command to remain calm and
- 2:26observe and that everything would be worked out by a
- 2:29different force that was at work.
- 2:33He saw each player in the drama of his trial as an expression of
- 2:38Vasudev and understood that everything was being done for
- 2:42him as a means to a greater end. Sri Aurobindo notes quote There
- 2:51has always been too much reliance on the action of your
- 2:53own mind and will. That is why you cannot progress.
- 2:58If you could once get the habit of silent reliance on the power
- 3:02of the Mother, not merely calling it in to support your
- 3:06own effort, the obstacle would diminish and eventually
- 3:11disappear. End Quote Reference Srioro Bindo
