- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from my studio.
- 0:30It's very, very early this morning, pitch dark.
- 0:32No girls this morning, they're still sleeping.
- 0:35I couldn't sleep. I got up and started working on
- 0:39a bunch of stuff that I knew I wanted to do and it was just
- 0:43ruminating in my head. So creative juices are flowing.
- 0:47So this led me to the conversation that we're about to
- 0:50have about act in spite of. So when you can't sleep,
- 0:55sometimes you just lay there and you get more and more aggravated
- 0:58that you can't sleep and you start thinking about the fact
- 1:01that you can't sleep. And because you can't sleep, you
- 1:02can't sleep. And it just grows and grows and
- 1:04grows and it gets more and more aggravating as it goes on
- 1:08because you're looking at it as I can't sleep.
- 1:11That means the day is going to be ruined.
- 1:13And you're focused on a lot of things that can cause you to get
- 1:16very, very wrapped up into the moment and spiraling.
- 1:20Well, my belief is you have to act in spite of the fact that
- 1:24you can't sleep. You have to act in spite of the
- 1:26fact that you're aggravated. You have to act in spite of the
- 1:29fact that your boss may suck or your kids are driving you crazy
- 1:33or your partner's driving you crazy.
- 1:35And you have to act in spite of the fact that all this has
- 1:38happened. You still have to do it and you
- 1:41have choices. You don't you, you could just
- 1:43spiral and you could become miserable, but that's not going
- 1:46to get you where you want to go. So you have to think in terms
- 1:50of, OK, well, in spite of the fact that this is all happening,
- 1:53I'm still going to do what I need to do because that's how I
- 1:57am going to progress. I'm not going to progress if I
- 1:59sit here and just focus on it. So I knew part of the reason
- 2:03that I couldn't sleep last night was that I had all these
- 2:06creative thoughts that I wanted to work on and ideas and my
- 2:11brain was just running. And, you know, we all have those
- 2:14moments when our brains run and usually I can shut them off.
- 2:18And I had the first time I woke up, it was like 1230 and I was
- 2:22like, Oh, that's not a problem. I'm going back to sleep.
- 2:25But when you wake up and it's like an hour before you would
- 2:28normally get up. So sometimes I, I tend to get up
- 2:31very early, often around 4:30. And I knew I was like, oh boy, I
- 2:37knew last night I was having all these thoughts and I did not do
- 2:42a normal brain dump before. I laid down where I just sat
- 2:45with a piece of paper, got all my thoughts out so that I could
- 2:48essentially sleep. I just didn't do it.
- 2:51And lo and behold, because I didn't do that, then my brain
- 2:55kept going and going and going. And when I woke up the second
- 2:58time and it was like 3 AMI was like, OK, you know what?
- 3:02I'm just going to get up and I'm going to do this.
- 3:05And, and the first thought was, well, then you might be tired.
- 3:08You're going to be coaching all day, which may be true.
- 3:10And I'm going to act in spite of that because there is no reason
- 3:14to not do what I need to do. No reason at all to not do what
- 3:18I need to do. I could get up and I could just
- 3:21go and I could do it. So I did.
- 3:23And I have to say that out here in the studio, when it's really
- 3:26quiet and it's before anything else is happening, I, I feel
- 3:30completely empowered getting a bunch of stuff done because
- 3:34guess what, it puts me, I feel like I'm ahead.
- 3:36I feel like I'm the first in line.
- 3:38I love to go places and get there and be early.
- 3:41I want to be the first person in line.
- 3:43I like that it's just part of my dynamic.
- 3:45It's part of my wiring. So doing it this way for me
- 3:48really makes me feel as though I am ahead of the game.
- 3:52I'm way ahead of everybody else. I've got a bunch of videos
- 3:56already organized. I've written down a bunch of
- 3:58ideas, I've worked on blog for this month, I've written out a
- 4:03bunch of stuff answering clients emails and here we are.
- 4:07As I'm recording this, it's like 5 O 2:00 AM after I've already
- 4:13done all of that. So it gives you a sense of
- 4:16empowerment. And so I took a moment where I
- 4:20acted in spite of the fact that I couldn't sleep.
- 4:22I continued to act and I didn't focus on the fact that that was
- 4:25what was happening. I focused on what I wanted as an
- 4:28outcome, which was to get up and be productive, allow the
- 4:33creativity to come through and not spiral and into this, oh,
- 4:37woe is me, I didn't sleep moment.
- 4:40And the power of doing that just fuels you and it fuels your
- 4:44entire day. So the lesson, Act in spite of
- 4:48what's going on. Act in spite of it.
- 4:51Doesn't matter. I'm just going to do it anyway.
- 4:53Doesn't matter. I'm going to get up.
- 4:55I'm going to work. Doesn't matter what the person
- 4:57says. Doesn't matter what they think
- 4:58of you. Act in spite of it and watch how
- 5:02much better you feel. All right, my friends.
- 5:04I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:07Bye.
