- 0:00When the spiritual seeker begins to recognize all of the
- 0:04difficulties and obstacles in his own external being and
- 0:08understands the need to reduce and remove these obstacles if
- 0:13there is to be any permanent and major progress, he may begin by
- 0:18struggling with the desires, the movements that arise, the
- 0:22thoughts that harass his mind. There is no end to these
- 0:26difficulties, so if he becomes fixated on them, he can distract
- 0:31himself from the transformational work of
- 0:34shifting his focus to the spiritual realms and the energy
- 0:38that they make available. At some point he comes to
- 0:43recognize that this is a thankless task that does not
- 0:47bring any finality to the process.
- 0:50It is something like the 5th labor of Hercules when he was
- 0:54required to clean out the Augean stables.
- 0:58The story goes, the King Ogios had a stable that had housed
- 1:033000 oxen for a period of 30 years and it had never been
- 1:08cleaned out. Reminds us of our vital nature.
- 1:12Having picked up many bad habitual practices over the
- 1:15course of millennia, he said Hercules the task of cleaning
- 1:20out this stable. Of course, if he started at one
- 1:24end and worked at it systematically, by the time he
- 1:28completed one round the 30,000 oxen would have recreated the
- 1:33mess and he would have to start over again.
- 1:37We see here the issue of trying to clean up the vital nature
- 1:41through detailed attention and action, as it never actually
- 1:46gets clean. Hercules had another approach to
- 1:50what was deemed to be an impossible task.
- 1:53He redirected the flow of a couple of rivers through the
- 1:56stables and quickly cleaned out the entire stables.
- 2:02This is a reminder to the spiritual seeker that it is the
- 2:05higher spiritual force that has the true purifying power and
- 2:10that reliance on our own mental, vital physical being and its
- 2:14limited capabilities does not work.
- 2:17Rather, if we turn our focus to the spiritual force and become
- 2:23receptive to its action, it alone has the power to cleanse
- 2:27and purify the vital nature, whereas the focus on the
- 2:33physical, vital and mental obstacles can cause considerable
- 2:36disruption and consternation. The opening to the spiritual
- 2:41force brings with it the inner peace, which becomes the true
- 2:45foundation of the yogic practice, Srioro Bindo writes.
- 2:50Quote The Spire, concentrate in the right spirit, and whatever
- 2:56the difficulties you are sure to attain, the aim you have put
- 3:00before you. It is in the peace behind that
- 3:05you must learn to live and feel it, to be yourself.
- 3:08You must regard the rest as not your real self, but only a flux
- 3:12of changing or recurring movements on the surface which
- 3:17are sure to go as the true self emerges.
- 3:20Peace is the true remedy. Distraction by hard work is only
- 3:26a temporary relief, although a certain amount of work is
- 3:29necessary for the proper balance of the different parts of the
- 3:32being. If you get peace, then to clean
- 3:37the vital becomes easy. If you simply clean and clean
- 3:41and do nothing else, you go very slowly, for the vital gets dirty
- 3:46again and has to be cleaned 100 times.
- 3:50The peace is something that is clean in itself, so to get it is
- 3:55a positive way of securing your object to look for dirt only and
- 4:00clean is the negative way. End Quote Reference Shriya
