Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for most things Kenobi.
- 0:04I prefer all things Kenobi, but I suppose that's not the Jedi
- 0:08way, as long as it's not all things Anakin.
- 0:25Hi everyone, Welcome to another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a
- 0:29podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:32I'm your host, Leanne. And I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:35And this week is Part 2, kind of of what we began last week,
- 0:41which was talking about the Obi Wan and Anakin.
- 0:44Or in this week's episodes case, Vader versus Anakin.
- 0:48We're looking at the duels from Revenge of the Sith and
- 0:51comparing and contrasting it to. What we witnessed, the greatness
- 0:56that we witnessed, the pain that we witnessed in the Kenobi show
- 1:01where they met again for the first time since Revenge of the
- 1:05Sith. And there's some real big
- 1:08similarities, there's some differences, but they're
- 1:11purposeful and they mean something.
- 1:13There's a lot of parallels or opposites that I've noticed and
- 1:18it's it's so cool. I love I I I really have
- 1:23enjoyed. This because I it forced me to
- 1:26look at this in a different way instead of just, oh, this is my
- 1:31heart, oh God no, you know, there's still that, but.
- 1:38Yeah, that never goes away. No, random noises always occur.
- 1:43But you know from the cinematography aspect to an
- 1:47emotional aspect to a. Where are these two individuals
- 1:51at in their life at the moment that these duels are happening?
- 1:54It's so fascinating. I mean like right from the get
- 1:58go. It's the very first scene,
- 2:01right? Evader ship lands and Obi ones
- 2:04there already. That's already the opposite of
- 2:08Revenge of the Sith. Yeah.
- 2:10Because Anakin was already a Musa fart.
- 2:12Obiwan lands. Obiwan walks down the ramp.
- 2:15Now it's the opposite. Vader walks.
- 2:16Down the ramp. No, you forgot.
- 2:18You forgot. Cloak drop.
- 2:21And then he walked down the ramp.
- 2:22No. He's at the bottom of the ramp
- 2:24when he and. Then he's caught.
- 2:26Shit. OK, well, we have to include the
- 2:29cloak drop because it wouldn't be his descent, be it cloak drop
- 2:34before or after the descent. The descent happens with a cloak
- 2:38drop. I can't.
- 2:39We can't leave it out. It's such a shame there isn't
- 2:42one in the Canova. He takes it off in the ship
- 2:44before he gets out. And of course it's cute because
- 2:47he finds the Droid from Leia and it's all very sweet and precious
- 2:50to give him courage. But like we missed out on a Cape
- 2:54drop, it's pretty sad. Opportunity missed.
- 2:57His fucking Cape drop came with at the end of this duel like the
- 3:03rocks. That was mic.
- 3:05Drop that on that. Oh my.
- 3:07God, yeah, seriously. There are like, there are so
- 3:10many moments where, honestly, this is like the sexiest Obi one
- 3:14has ever been. Concur.
- 3:21Yep. Can concur.
- 3:24There are. I don't even know.
- 3:25Countless epic moments in it. And I can't.
- 3:28I can't handle it. It was the Obi one I've always
- 3:31wanted, yes. Yeah.
- 3:32Oh, but the pain. You know, I I'm really
- 3:35interested to talk about the planet choice because it is such
- 3:39a stark contrast to the fiery, bubbling, explosive Mustafar and
- 3:47we have this cold, barren. What it represents is kind of
- 3:53the coldness between them, the the the dead friendship, the
- 3:58lack of between them, you know? Yes, the environment, even apart
- 4:04from just the the physical formations.
- 4:06But the smudgy, Gray, smoky look?
- 4:10It's like the aftermath of fire. Totally.
- 4:13It's been charred over almost. And yes, it's like a dead fire,
- 4:17like a fire pit, the remains. Yes, Mustafa was the burning,
- 4:22the passion. And this is like the aftermath
- 4:25of that destruction. It's.
- 4:26So I love it. It's so smart.
- 4:29It's it's really the more I like.
- 4:31I always liked this. I've heard some people say they
- 4:34they didn't like the environment.
- 4:36But the more I went through this sequence and looked at the
- 4:39cinematography of it, the more I realized that the moon is is it
- 4:42a moon or a planet? I'm not really sure.
- 4:44Well. There's no like official name
- 4:46for it, right? They just called it Barren Moon.
- 4:49Yeah, yeah, there's no clear answer that we could find.
- 4:52If someone out there knows or heard, please let us know
- 4:54because we tried to research. And we saw a few answers but
- 4:59nothing definitive so. Yeah, there's even a little bit
- 5:02of contrasting information out there, but yeah, it's so good.
- 5:06So at the beginning of the duel, they're kind of been like this
- 5:09open plane, which is, it's actually really reminiscent to
- 5:12prevented the Sith, how they're like kind of out in the open.
- 5:14And then they go inside and go into the like the tighter
- 5:17environment. That's more dangerous and
- 5:20dynamic, I guess. But there are these.
- 5:22Cones. They're kind of like
- 5:25stalagmites. Or they could be cinder cones.
- 5:28Yeah. And the thing I like about
- 5:31either of those symbols is stalagmites are caused by
- 5:35mineral water, you know, like dripping over an extended period
- 5:39of time and building, building, building until they they have
- 5:41this Spire. I like where this is going,
- 5:44What? I'm getting chills.
- 5:45OK, keep going. Keep going.
- 5:47So that already ties into OB one and and it can just.
- 5:51Overtime percolating until it becomes this giant rock that you
- 5:55can't get around. Yes.
- 5:57Or if it's a cinder cone, that's usually like a dormant volcano.
- 6:02True. So it's like this sleeping power
- 6:06that could become very dangerous if it wakes up.
- 6:09So either one of those would. Like Opie wants powers.
- 6:14Exactly. Or like even Anakin, because
- 6:17he's unpredictable, but he's not really.
- 6:19He's actually kind of predictable.
- 6:21And I think that's part of why Obi Wan wins.
- 6:23But. He's predictable to Obi Wan.
- 6:25Yes, exactly. Riva.
- 6:27Riva did not. Riva did not anticipate that
- 6:30shit show. And Anakin or Vader uses moves
- 6:34on Obi Wan that he used on Riva and Obi Wan manages like no
- 6:40problem. Like like nothing has changed.
- 6:44He still knows you. You're not going to stop
- 6:47fighting. I mean all be 1 learns from
- 6:50things. We we have discussed this ad
- 6:52nauseam and I think he would have easily picked up the
- 6:56limitations that Vader now has because of the suit and the
- 6:59mechanics. We've all talked about how he
- 7:01can't really swing high or very high because of the suit and the
- 7:05arms and the thing he has kind of a low.
- 7:09You know, twirl to I'm doing it, but no one can see it.
- 7:13Podcast. But I think Obiwan would learn
- 7:16right away, like what his new style is.
- 7:19But he's not going to change that much because Anakin's still
- 7:23in there and he knows what works or what has worked.
- 7:25And it worked with Reva, right? And he tries it on Obiwan, but
- 7:28Obiwan's always one step ahead. Always.
- 7:30Never. You're never going to top him.
- 7:32He was one step ahead all the way up until A New Hope, right?
- 7:36Even then. He knew what the hell was going
- 7:38on, what he was going to do. He planned it all out.
- 7:41That's so true. That's such a good point because
- 7:43revenge of the OR, I'm sorry, not revenge.
- 7:45It's A New Hope. Seems really anti climactic
- 7:49compared to these other things. But now looking at it, we
- 7:52realize Obiwan was in control the whole time.
- 7:55It was his game and Vader didn't even know he was playing right
- 7:59into the exact thing. Obiwen had always kind of like
- 8:02had in mind. Just.
- 8:04Sacrifice himself. Protect Luke.
- 8:06You know it's so good. Some.
- 8:08Of the deadliest bad guys, quote, UN quote, always study
- 8:13and are one step ahead. And Obiwan is a good guy and
- 8:17studies and is always one step ahead.
- 8:20Yeah, and he tricks him. Yeah, and that has to piss him
- 8:23off bad. That would great.
- 8:26My last fucking mechanical nerve, you know?
- 8:32No wonder he's so damn angry. You know, amongst other reasons,
- 8:35but. That's that's kind of what I
- 8:37love about it is they play into why Vader gets so annoyed,
- 8:42right? And it's those the flashbacks,
- 8:45they use the same moves from the flashbacks in this duel at the
- 8:49end where Obi Wan, they're back-to-back and Obi Wan is
- 8:52blocking Anakin. So Anakin is thinking same Obi
- 8:56Wan. It's going to go the same way.
- 8:58I know what I'm doing. And like what you just said,
- 9:01what have we said so many times? Obi Wan learns he knows Anakin
- 9:05expects him to be that way, and Anakin's probably been planning
- 9:09this whole time to defeat Surrey Su.
- 9:12And so when Obi Wan doesn't use Surrey Su, Anakin doesn't know
- 9:15what to do or Vader doesn't know what to do.
- 9:18Like it's it's so awesome and so sad at the same time.
- 9:23I actually kind of love that you keep saying Anakin and then
- 9:26correcting with Vader because. It's so appropriate for this
- 9:29battle because he like there is that moment right where he has
- 9:33the red, fades to blue, fades back to red, and it's, it's
- 9:37Hayden's voice, then it's James Earl Jones's voice and then back
- 9:41to it, you know, and it's this struggle.
- 9:44I mean, we see it externally, but obviously it's an internal
- 9:47struggle that Vader is going through because he's faced for
- 9:50the first time, literally face to face.
- 9:53You can count the the fire glass.
- 9:55But that was him just being a bitch, right.
- 9:57And there was no, yeah, there was no emotional exchange.
- 10:01There was no apology. There was no I am not your
- 10:05failure, you know, that sort of thing.
- 10:08They had to face what happened. And it's so funny because Obi
- 10:13Wan uses that moment in this duel to apologize.
- 10:18Anakin. And I also, I say Anakin uses
- 10:21that moment to, I don't want to say.
- 10:24Go on the defensive. But he kind of does.
- 10:26He uses that moment to like exude some sort of control.
- 10:31And I know the reason he has to because if he acknowledges
- 10:36anything that happened that he made a choice that day, every
- 10:40decision he did from Palpatine and and Mace Windu forward was
- 10:45his choice, right? If he had to face that, that
- 10:48would be the probably the biggest pain besides losing
- 10:51Padme. He's not going to do it.
- 10:53But Obiwan faces that pain and apologizes to him.
- 10:57I'm sorry for all of it, for leaving him there, for the the
- 11:00collapse of their friendship, the collapse of everything they
- 11:04believed in the order. I think when Obiwan says I'm
- 11:07sorry for all of it, he's actually saying I'm sorry that
- 11:11all of it was for nothing. That you were drugged into this
- 11:15the way I'm sorry that you ended up like this and ended up in
- 11:19this position. Almost as if he's saying I'm
- 11:21sorry I didn't do more. To prevent this, which in the
- 11:27Revenge of the Sith duel, Anakin is in control the entire he and
- 11:31he incites it. He challenges him, he pushes for
- 11:35pushes on on, always on the offensive.
- 11:38And I just love the vulnerability that Obi Wan shows
- 11:42in the Kenobi show duel. He's a hell of a fucking
- 11:46fighter, right? There is no question he comes
- 11:48out. Fuck it, swing it and it
- 11:51awesome. The rocks.
- 11:53The slice across the head, the final punch to the breathing
- 11:56apparatus. He went for all of the weak
- 11:58points. But in that moment he still
- 12:02apologized. He saw his friend and it like,
- 12:07broke him. It's so fucking wonderful.
- 12:09So we have this like, climactic. I'll wrap this up real fast,
- 12:13people. Just a passionate about this.
- 12:17Lauren has good things to talk about, and I'm over here waxing
- 12:20poetic but like. No, it's good.
- 12:21I like. It's just the it's the
- 12:24emotional. It's like Obi Wan comes full
- 12:28circle and accepts it and Anakin doesn't.
- 12:32That's the difference between a hero and a villain.
- 12:35Yes, and wow, it's amazing. OK, that's the end of my.
- 12:42The end of my platform speech here.
- 12:45No, I just there are there's so much that I I have written down
- 12:49the dovetails into all that you were.
- 12:52Just let's hear it. I'm going to stop talking.
- 12:54No, no, it's good. It's like the lighting keeps
- 12:57switching right and and on both of their faces there's more red
- 13:01and then there's more blue, but there's always like a little bit
- 13:04of both. Until Anakin says you didn't
- 13:07kill Anakin Skywalker, his face turns all blue.
- 13:11And then he says I did and it starts to turn red again.
- 13:15And then after that it's pure red.
- 13:17And then only one has neither color.
- 13:20He becomes neutral. He's not red or blue anymore,
- 13:24he's just free. Yeah, it's such.
- 13:28Such a deliberate choice and it ties into everything you're just
- 13:32saying of the acceptance and letting the burden go.
- 13:35And also the this ties into it too when Anakin breaks the
- 13:40ground and. Yes, balls.
- 13:41And he throws all the rocks on him and how we've talked about
- 13:44in the past how that's just in like representative of the
- 13:47burdens that he's. Waiting carries.
- 13:50Yes, crushing him. And then it kind of occurs to me
- 13:54this time that he throws all that back at Anakin.
- 13:57I love it. Yes.
- 13:59Yes. It's not only does he throw it
- 14:01off of himself and like blows the shit out of it and gets up
- 14:05out of the the hole, but then he picks everything up and just
- 14:08throws it all back at Anakin and it's like you've put all these
- 14:11burdens on me. What about you?
- 14:13Can you face it? And like you said, he can't?
- 14:16No. He cannot.
- 14:19It's so, Oh my God, it's just so good.
- 14:21The sequence is just very deliberate, and the more I
- 14:24analyzed it, the more I realized, like every decision is
- 14:27so purposeful. It's really to me that is like
- 14:31the most rewarding kind of stuff to watch.
- 14:32It's registering subconsciously with us.
- 14:36But then when you dive, when you dive in and you see, oh, this is
- 14:39so meaningful, it's. Well, I was thinking about how
- 14:43you mentioned. On Mustafa, there's all this
- 14:46fire, and it's so red and orange and black, and the two little
- 14:49glimmers of blue from their lightsabers.
- 14:52And then this. Everything is dark and Gray and
- 14:55black, and it's the two glimmers of lightsabers, but it's the one
- 15:00is now red. And it's.
- 15:02It's quite sad, but there is that like dominant color as the
- 15:07base and then the emphasis is the two, those two and I like, I
- 15:12like that. It's sad.
- 15:15It's it's so good. And even there's that shot.
- 15:18There's like a long shot of after Anakin's down on his
- 15:22knees. Obiwan is kind of standing in
- 15:24his defensive pose, and behind them are pillars that are the
- 15:30like similar representation. There's a tall one behind Obiwan
- 15:33and a short half, like cut in half.
- 15:35One version behind Anakin, and it's just even the environment.
- 15:41You know it's representative of their positions.
- 15:43It's. Well, it Harkins back a little
- 15:46bit to the mortise arc where they're in that arena.
- 15:49Yes, I. Mean minus Asoka and a couple of
- 15:52birds you know they're and one very distraught father I guess.
- 15:58But like in an arena of sorts where the force is being
- 16:04manipulated in in a good and bad way.
- 16:07It's. Anakin, you saw this.
- 16:15If I could turn back to what you didn't see.
- 16:21Behind one of the pillars was Cher poking her head out, like
- 16:25is now my moment. Star Wars would be very
- 16:30different. Be more like a burlesque movie.
- 16:36Is that a Cher movie? I kind of want someone to make
- 16:40the edit. What?
- 16:41What is it? The Empire strips back, you
- 16:44know. Hey, I'm going to that next
- 16:46week, everybody. Are you going next week?
- 16:48We talk about going to. We have tickets my boyfriend and
- 16:51I are going to Empire Strips Back and I will let everyone
- 16:54know how fucking ridiculous it is.
- 16:56I. Can't wait.
- 16:58Report back. I shall.
- 17:02So what else do you have? Because I know you got notes
- 17:04upon notes upon notes. I do.
- 17:06I have a lot. I have a lot.
- 17:08There's just there's so many things.
- 17:10One of the things I really love is when everyone falls down in
- 17:13that pit that Anakin creates. It is almost identical framing
- 17:20to The Phantom Menace. Oh, oh, oh.
- 17:25I never thought of that. So it's He falls down, you know,
- 17:28into the pit and looks up. And there's mall standing right
- 17:33where Vader is standing. Oh.
- 17:35Shit, he's probably thinking himself.
- 17:36I've been here before. Right.
- 17:39And I was thinking like Vader should be a little more nervous.
- 17:42He shouldn't stand there. Well, you know, you had to get
- 17:46the high ground. Shit, he just had to.
- 17:48He had to. Well.
- 17:50Speaking. Of the high ground.
- 17:53Yes. So.
- 17:55Obiwan's final blow, like across the helmet, comes from the high
- 17:59ground. I know it does.
- 18:01Off a rock and has to get some high ground, but I like that.
- 18:04It's like the opposite of what happens in Revenge of the Sin.
- 18:07He's the one jumping. Yes, and still has the
- 18:11advantages. Doesn't matter.
- 18:15He's one of the smartest dualists out of any of the Jedi,
- 18:20I have to say it, and I'm trying not to be biased, but.
- 18:24He just is. We see it over 2 Siths.
- 18:27Everybody too. I would.
- 18:30I would love a what if seeing him do old Palpatine?
- 18:34I would really enjoy that. I think it'd be cool.
- 18:37He would probably not win, but I would still like to see it
- 18:39because he probably get some good blows in there before.
- 18:42I think that's an interesting question slash comment slash
- 18:47scenario because we should examine that because I'm torn.
- 18:51I don't think he would win because if there's anyone who's
- 18:542 steps ahead of someone, it's pelps.
- 18:56Yes, yeah. And Yoda was pretty fucking
- 18:59strong in and of himself. He handled that man pretty well
- 19:03for for his age, for his stature.
- 19:06You know all the things that you would normally think of as being
- 19:09hindrances in a fight of that manner.
- 19:12No, he didn't let it hinder him it he used it to his advantage,
- 19:15which is also a smart fighter. True, but also.
- 19:20Yoda hasn't fought that many cysts in recent years, at least
- 19:24compared to Obiwan, who has fought mall multiple times.
- 19:29Savajo Press and Akin Vader. Yeah yeah, Ventris if you Yeah,
- 19:37Grievous. I saw a sticker with Grievous
- 19:42and all it said underneath was asthma and I kind of loved it.
- 19:49It's like, if you know, you know, if anyone else saw that
- 19:51who isn't a Star Wars fan, I would be like, what is that and
- 19:54who is that? But I loved.
- 19:55It it's accurate. It's.
- 19:57Very. It is accurate.
- 20:00OK, some other fun stuff I noticed in the cinematography.
- 20:04After Obiwan breaks Anakin's helmet and he's on his knees,
- 20:08the angle they film him at is identical to Revenge of the
- 20:11Sith. So Anakin's down, He's like
- 20:15looking up at Obi Wan and it's yeah.
- 20:18Yeah, so it's like Obiwan is seeing him again down at the
- 20:21parallels. The worlds are repeating
- 20:23themselves. The thing I really like though
- 20:25is there's a huge difference in the way they're filmed.
- 20:29After that point, when they start speaking to each other,
- 20:32they're in these closeups where it's really close on both of the
- 20:35the characters faces, and that indicates a more personal,
- 20:40emotional thing going on, where even though it was very personal
- 20:44and Revenge of the Sith, the Galaxy was at stake.
- 20:47You know the Jedi, we're at stake.
- 20:49And now this is just between these two men.
- 20:53And so we're getting much more of a close up.
- 20:55And then there's the cinematography technique that
- 20:57they're using where they never are in the frame together, and
- 21:01the only ones on the right looking left, Anakins on the
- 21:05left looking right, but they're never together.
- 21:08And when a scene is filmed that way.
- 21:10It means the characters could never agree.
- 21:14They can never get on the same page and come to terms.
- 21:18Yeah, makes sense. Right up-to-the-minute they walk
- 21:21away, they're not framed together.
- 21:22They cannot. They're just like, never gonna
- 21:25be there again. It brings me back to the quote I
- 21:28said I would reread from the last episode, which is the
- 21:33Revenge of the Sith novelization, and I said I was
- 21:36going to reread this because it works right now in this
- 21:39instance. From what you're describing, and
- 21:41the quote is this, this was not Sith against Jedi.
- 21:46This was not light against dark or good against evil.
- 21:49It had nothing to do with duty or philosophy, religion or
- 21:52morals. It was Anakin against Obi Wan
- 21:54personally. Just the two of them and the
- 21:56damage they had done to each other.
- 21:59And just like the stalagmite stalactite stalagmite, One's up
- 22:03and one down, OK? Stalagmite goes up, I believe.
- 22:07So the drip, drip, drip piling on over the years, there was
- 22:10still harm done and probably more so on Anakin side.
- 22:14Since Obi Wan was kind of out of the loop of whether or not he
- 22:16lived or died, it was still there.
- 22:19Not only was this scene, this dual closure for every fan out
- 22:24there, but it was closure for these two characters.
- 22:26Just like this quote says, Obi Wan knew there was in the end
- 22:29only one answer for the attachment and he had to let it
- 22:32go. Same thing here, he had to let
- 22:35it go and this time he had to let go of.
- 22:37A new set of past, past hurts, wrongdoings, things that have
- 22:42changed, things that were no longer.
- 22:44I mean, that was all part of the Revenge of the Sith.
- 22:47This was brand new. Now we're talking like this is
- 22:50sat for a while. Yeah.
- 22:52And for Obi Wan to do his duty to Luke and lay at this point,
- 22:56he had to let this this whole thing go as well.
- 23:00And at this point, he's got no one to answer to but himself.
- 23:04That's right. And that's freeing.
- 23:07Yeah, I mean, like he obviously, like you said, he's got his
- 23:09responsibilities to Luke and Leia, but he's not answering to
- 23:12a Jedi council anymore. So he he doesn't have to let it
- 23:16go. It's his personal choice because
- 23:20he is a Jedi, like he counsellor, not whether or not
- 23:23the Jedi exists anymore, he can't not be who he is.
- 23:27Like Obi Wan Kenobi and Jedi are just one and the same, you know?
- 23:32And even though he cut himself off from the Force, look how
- 23:35powerful he is coming. Back after years of not using
- 23:38it, he's more powerful than ever.
- 23:40A crack and a dam. Yeah.
- 23:42Oh my God, yes. And like the way he anticipates
- 23:45Anakin and uses Anakin's moves against him, moves that he
- 23:49hasn't done in what? How long has it been?
- 23:5210 years? Yeah.
- 23:55It's crazy. It's awesome.
- 23:57It's one more reason why he's my favorite fucking character.
- 24:01The whole thing with the rocks on top of him and thinking about
- 24:04Leia and Luke and his purpose. Shedding all of that, letting it
- 24:07go, like you said, literally flinging the weight off of him,
- 24:11allowed him to really tap into his true strength in the Force.
- 24:16He you have to face this stuff in life.
- 24:20You have to face this tough, difficult shit head on for you
- 24:26to get through it. And it's, I'll tell you from
- 24:29experience, it sucks. It hurts, but it will.
- 24:33You come out the other end. You're even more powerful than
- 24:37ever. And Obi Wan in shedding that all
- 24:41of this hurt, all of this connection to the past.
- 24:44Even though he cut himself off from the Force, he came back
- 24:47stronger than ever and with a clear mind.
- 24:49Going forward to help Luke. You know, it's so beautiful.
- 24:53It's it's actually beautiful. It is.
- 24:55I'm very passionate about this. It goes beyond Star Wars.
- 25:00That's why this is such an example and.
- 25:03All of the stories we've heard from our our listeners who have
- 25:06told us that they've moved through pain, that they've moved
- 25:09through challenges and shed the rocks, so to speak, and came out
- 25:13the other side brand new. I mean, it's it, This is this.
- 25:16It goes well beyond Obi Wan and Anakin's relationship.
- 25:19It's a beautiful metaphor for life.
- 25:23I agree. I think it's why it resonates so
- 25:25much with so many people all over the world.
- 25:28It's a universal truth. Yeah, we've all got a little bit
- 25:32of. Oh God, I have to tread
- 25:35carefully. We all have a little bit of
- 25:37Anakin in us, and we all have a little bit, and we all got a
- 25:44little bit of Obi Wan in us. What I'm trying to say is we
- 25:47have a little bit of darkness in us, and we have a little bit of
- 25:49lightness in us. We got a little bit of Sith, we
- 25:50got a little bit of Jedi, but we got to move in the way of the
- 25:54light. Even though there's that
- 25:57darkness, I mean, you can't have one without the other.
- 25:59We've talked about it, you know. Why?
- 26:02Why would you want to live, you know, in that, that dark,
- 26:05burdened place? What did you say you said
- 26:07something like? Being angry and seeking revenge
- 26:10never hurts the person that is directed towards.
- 26:13It hurts the the person carrying it and holding on to it far
- 26:17more. It's the it's the Rose example.
- 26:20If you you hold on to a rose and the tighter you clutch.
- 26:25The stem, the harder that thorn is going to go into your hand.
- 26:29But the moment you release your grip and let it go and and
- 26:32release, it no longer hurts. So let go of that pain.
- 26:36Let go of whatever it is that you're clinging to so tightly
- 26:40because you're afraid to lose it.
- 26:42Does she love that It's Palpatine has to tell Vader to
- 26:45loosen his grip. He's like, I feel like you're a
- 26:47bit distracted. Everyone needs reminded.
- 26:51Even, even. I mean, he's still one track
- 26:55minded. He's still one track minded
- 26:57after he goes after every Jedi. He's just so goddamn focused.
- 27:02And that's the way Anakin was. He was so like he couldn't
- 27:06compartmentalize anything. It was just one, one thing, one
- 27:10goal, one. You gotta expand, bro.
- 27:16Obiwan was the opposite. He was always better at seeing
- 27:18the bigger picture, and this is I think, why he's so successful
- 27:23when he Revenge of the Sith was a struggle for sure.
- 27:26And I know the Kenobi duel was probably a bit of a struggle,
- 27:30but he seemed to be managing it and controlling it almost from
- 27:34the very beginning when he says I will do what I must.
- 27:38Oh yeah. Well, that whole thing there.
- 27:41That was hot as hell. But also, I believed him in that
- 27:45moment. It wasn't like in Revenge of the
- 27:47Sith where he he says it, but you're like this.
- 27:49This could end badly for either one of them in the Kenobi
- 27:53series. When he said that, I was like,
- 27:54he's going to handle this just fine, It's going to suck.
- 27:59It's going to be hard to watch, but it just felt like Obi Wan
- 28:03was in control the whole time. Except for a few moments where
- 28:06Vader thought he had the upper hand.
- 28:08But the way that Obi Wan conquered that fear and that the
- 28:12burdens made him more, even more powerful.
- 28:16It was just so fucking fun, honestly.
- 28:18Yeah, and people have asked why didn't Obi Wan kill Vader then?
- 28:23He wasn't an unarmed man at this point.
- 28:26He wasn't even his best friend. That was.
- 28:28We're well, well past that. I don't think it would have
- 28:32mattered. Palpatine would have found
- 28:33someone else and things would have gone on just the way they
- 28:37always did. When everything happens in its
- 28:40right time, right? Like if Obi Wan had killed
- 28:44Bader, then how would Luke's path have been different in the
- 28:47original trilogy? You know it would have changed a
- 28:50lot of things. Do you think that?
- 28:53There was a glimmer of hope even still in Obi Wan, thinking that
- 28:57maybe, just maybe, Anakin could still fulfill the destiny of the
- 29:03the Chosen one, bring balance, etcetera.
- 29:05Do you ever, do you ever think he considered that?
- 29:07Or do you think it was just a done deal and that the that qui
- 29:10gone and the prophecy and the whole thing was just a was just
- 29:13a forget it. I don't think he did have a
- 29:17glimmer of hope. I think that what he says in A
- 29:20New Hope when he's talking about he's more machine now the man he
- 29:23really doesn't have much compassion for Henneken inside
- 29:27that suit quote UN quote AM Air. Corps.
- 29:29Really. Nor should he.
- 29:31Right. I mean, he said he's he's dead,
- 29:34basically. My friend is dead and I think
- 29:37that when mall even finds him on tattooing, Mall asks.
- 29:42Is he the chosen one, meaning Luke, and right one says he is.
- 29:47So I I think he's given up on Anakin being alive or
- 29:51salvageable and has moved his hopes on to just protecting Luke
- 29:57and giving Luke the best chance of bringing balance again to the
- 30:01Force quote. I agree.
- 30:02I I agree with all of that, yeah.
- 30:04I don't think he had a glimmer because the minute he saw that
- 30:07Anakin was. Well, you're my friend is dead
- 30:09then when he says that, you know he believed that.
- 30:12Yeah. And then the, you know, the
- 30:13cinematic language indicates that he had let go of the idea
- 30:17completely. When he, his coloring becomes
- 30:20neutral, basically. As my mother said, my God, why
- 30:28is this so sad? Because, mom, it's Star Wars.
- 30:36But it's beautiful. It's beautiful too.
- 30:38You got to. Through all of this, we have
- 30:42individuals like Obi Wan who give us the strength to remember
- 30:47that you can still go on, do good and move forward.
- 30:54What's better than that, right? Yeah, everyone.
- 30:56I mean, shit. Vader gets his chance, turns,
- 31:00turns into the Papa of the year, and.
- 31:03Dumps Palpatine down a trash chute, essentially a electric
- 31:07chute, and saves his son. I mean, it's everyone is
- 31:11afforded the ability to change, but some are just exemplary, Oh
- 31:17no exemplary examples. They're they're just perfect
- 31:25examples of what we aspire to be every day.
- 31:30And that is Obi Wan with his hair.
- 31:32Dig it right there. All right.
- 31:40Our question is, which of the two duels, the Revenge of the
- 31:44Sith or the Kenobi series duel is your favorite and why?

- 32:09them all in one episode. So we're going to go back and
