Transcript
- 0:00Good morning and welcome to Spy Trader .
- 0:03I am your host , Barnaby Brightside , and I am so glad you could join me this morning .
- 0:08It is 6 am on Saturday , October 10th , 2026 , here on the Pacific coast .
- 0:14We have had quite a week in the markets , so grab your coffee and let's dive into what is moving your money .
- 0:20We are seeing a period of cautious consolidation right now .
- 0:25After that big rally we enjoyed in September , the S&P 500 — which many of us track through the SPY — slipped about zero point eight percent over the last few days .
- 0:35The techheavy Nasdaq100 , or QQQ , took an even bigger hit , dropping one point four percent as folks started taking some profits from those big AI winners .
- 0:47Looking at the sectors , Technology , represented by the XLK , is feeling some valuation fatigue .
- 0:54Even though Nvidia is still seeing huge demand for its new Rubin chips , investors are watching software spending very closely .
- 1:02On the flip side , Financials are the stars right now .
- 1:05Big banks like JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs are benefiting from a steeper yield curve , which helps their interest margins .
- 1:13We also saw the Real Estate and Utilities sectors stabilize as the longterm treasury bond ETF , TLT , finally found a floor .
- 1:24In the news , Apple made waves with its 6G modem plans for the upcoming iPhone 18 , though some antitrust concerns in Europe slowed that momentum .
- 1:34Tesla fell about three percent due to slower CyberTruck growth in Asia , leading some investors to look toward the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF , or VTI , to keep their exposure while smoothing out the ride .
- 1:49Meanwhile , Microsoft is looking toward nuclear energy to power its new Stargate data centers , which is a fascinating intersection of tech and utilities .
- 1:59On the macro front , the October 2nd employment report showed a labor market that is cooling but still resilient .
- 2:06However , Fed Chair Jerome Powell suggested on October 8th that the neutral interest rate might be higher than we expected .
- 2:13This has kept the aggregate bond ETF , AGG , trading mostly sideways .
- 2:20We also saw some tension in the Straits of Malacca , which pushed crude oil up and gave a two percent boost to the Energy sector , XLE .
- 2:28This also helped SPDR Gold Shares , or GLD , hit a new monthly high .
- 2:33So , what is the game plan ?
- 2:35First , we recommend a tactical shift toward value and income .
- 2:39Banks are entering earnings season with strong balance sheets .
- 2:43Consider the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLF , or individual holdings like JPMorgan .
- 2:51Second , think about diversifying internationally .
- 2:54The Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF , or VEA , is trading at a discount compared to the US market and offers a nice buffer if tech continues to correct .
- 3:05Third , fixed income is back for stability .
- 3:08The Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF , BND , offers attractive yields right now .
- 3:14If you want to bet on rates falling eventually , keep an eye on TLT .
- 3:20Finally , a small hedge in gold is a smart move given the geopolitical news .
- 3:25SPDR Gold Shares , or GLD , is a great noncorrelated asset for your portfolio .
- 3:32In summary , it is a waitandsee environment .
- 3:35We recommend holding your SPY positions and maybe trimming a little of your QQQ growth exposure .
- 3:41It is a great time to accumulate some VEA for international value and buy into XLF for the financial boost .
- 3:49We will be watching the big bank earnings closely over the next fortyeight hours .
- 3:53Stay balanced , stay informed , and I will see you in a few hours for our next update .
