- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, this is Anny and Samantha. I'm not good stuff.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Never told you, production by heard you, And for today's classic,
- 0:20Speaker 2: we are bringing back a happy hour that was surprisingly popular.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I got a lot of response for this.
- 0:25Speaker 2: One, which was my review of the Super Mario Brothers movie.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So I was surprised.
- 0:36Speaker 2: At how many people interacted with this and wrote in
- 0:39Speaker 2: about this. I recently have watched the new one, Super
- 0:44Speaker 2: Mario Brothers Galaxy, which is now streaming. Yes, so I'm
- 0:50Speaker 2: not gotta spoil it. I think outside of like the trailers,
- 0:54Speaker 2: but I'll give you, like my quick here's what I
- 0:57Speaker 2: think about it. So in this episode about the first one,
- 1:02Speaker 2: I was talking about how.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I was a.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Little concerned about how it was so Bowser wants to
- 1:12Speaker 2: marry Peaches and it doesn't matter what she wants, and
- 1:16Speaker 2: he doesn't know her, and he doesn't care about her
- 1:17Speaker 2: and all of this stuff, which is you know, on
- 1:21Speaker 2: course with the game. It's not like it came out
- 1:23Speaker 2: of nowhere. And I'll talk about this more in a second.
- 1:25Speaker 2: But I also felt like they were trying to make
- 1:28Speaker 2: her super badass because they knew they had this reputation
- 1:34Speaker 2: of the women always being the damsel in distress. The
- 1:37Speaker 2: princess is always in your castle and another castle, that
- 1:39Speaker 2: whole thing, and so they're trying to make her stronger,
- 1:42Speaker 2: but she's still kind of ended up being like seen
- 1:45Speaker 2: as a bride. But anyway, this one is much more
- 1:50Speaker 2: princess kidnappy. It's less marriage y, so more kidnappy. So Rosalina,
- 2:00Speaker 2: who is like presented as one of the most powerful,
- 2:04Speaker 2: if not the most powerful being in the galaxy, is
- 2:09Speaker 2: kidnapped in the beginning and pretty much spends most of
- 2:13Speaker 2: her time being kidnapped and captured. Yeah she does have
- 2:18Speaker 2: a like cool fight in the beginning, but yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 1: She mostly.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Is not not really there, kind of caged away. And
- 2:33Speaker 2: one of the things that's got to me too is
- 2:35Speaker 2: that there was this element of motherhood I wasn't quite
- 2:41Speaker 2: expecting with Rosalina having all of her little star babies,
- 2:48Speaker 2: and in the first one, you know, Peach kind of
- 2:51Speaker 2: have all of her mushroom children, I guess, but they
- 2:55Speaker 2: weren't presented as children so much. This was with Rosealina
- 2:59Speaker 2: was very much like mother child.
- 3:01Speaker 1: She has this hold on.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Like no one hurts my goods, all right, that's okay,
- 3:06Speaker 2: that's legit. But I just wasn't necessarily expecting that element.
- 3:12Speaker 2: There's a whole stealing women's power thing that's going on
- 3:16Speaker 2: here because they're essentially trying to drain Rosalina. Bowser and
- 3:21Speaker 2: his son are trying to drain Rosaline's power. But there's
- 3:27Speaker 2: also this dichotomy of absent fathers because in the first one,
- 3:34Speaker 2: it's made clear that Mario's father does not approve of
- 3:37Speaker 2: him and thinks he's a failure. And so Mario and
- 3:42Speaker 2: Bowser of like this bonding moment over that, and so
- 3:46Speaker 2: did him and DK in the first one. I guess wait,
- 3:50Speaker 2: they called Donkey Kong d K d K Donkey Ye.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Yes, I knew that was coming.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah's going to try to trigger me.
- 3:58Speaker 4: You knew, because I was I was just asking.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, right.
- 4:07Speaker 2: So there's this element of like absent fathers because Bowser
- 4:11Speaker 2: wasn't there during the childhood of his son, Bowser Junior,
- 4:14Speaker 2: who is kind of the main villain of this one,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and Bowser Junior is trying to do anything to prove, uh,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you know, I'm worthy of your attention and we can
- 4:27Speaker 2: have all of these things that we used to talk
- 4:30Speaker 2: about back when he was around. So it was very
- 4:33Speaker 2: much passing on Bowser passing on this idea let's just
- 4:36Speaker 2: destroy everybody and roll the galaxy together, which his son internalized,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and now Bowser has the moment of like, oh, I
- 4:46Speaker 2: shouldn't have taught him that. Now I don't know what
- 4:50Speaker 2: to do. So there's that going on. There's still these
- 4:56Speaker 2: elements of rejection, lingering, rejection Bowser. I feel that Peaches,
- 5:01Speaker 2: in his words, humiliated him at his wedding, which again
- 5:07Speaker 2: she did not want to be there.
- 5:08Speaker 1: He knew she didn't want to be there, and he
- 5:11Speaker 1: called it my wedding, not there anyway. So there's.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Going back to the point I was talking about earlier.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I kind of feel like, and this isn't unique to
- 5:26Speaker 2: this property, because a lot of these big franchises do
- 5:30Speaker 2: have a history of damsel in distress. Women are only
- 5:35Speaker 2: there for serving the plot of the men. So I
- 5:40Speaker 2: feel like what a lot of people are doing a
- 5:42Speaker 2: lot of these franchises aren't doing, is they're trying to
- 5:45Speaker 2: pivot and sort of overcorrect wherein it's a female character
- 5:51Speaker 2: like Peach who you never see how she got so
- 5:54Speaker 2: strong or so tough or whatever she just is, but
- 5:59Speaker 2: then she still ends up being sidelined. So it feels
- 6:03Speaker 2: kind of like you're trying to have your cake and
- 6:04Speaker 2: eat it too. Like they're still not like the main characters.
- 6:09Speaker 2: They don't necessarily have the best story or like flesh
- 6:12Speaker 2: out story, but they're not like weak in quotes, like
- 6:18Speaker 2: they do know how to fight and do all that stuff.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Like Rosalina, as I said, most powerful person in the galaxy,
- 6:25Speaker 2: and it's in theory, but what I mean, most of
- 6:29Speaker 2: the movie is her not captured, So I don't know,
- 6:34Speaker 2: there's just I feel like there's a tension there of
- 6:39Speaker 2: they're trying to get away from that history and maybe
- 6:43Speaker 2: also honor the history, but also they still want to
- 6:46Speaker 2: give the main storylines to the dudes, and yeah, this
- 6:51Speaker 2: is Rosalina is kind of treated as like a reward
- 6:55Speaker 2: to be used, which is very much what happens in
- 6:57Speaker 2: the games. You can see our episode on we did
- 7:00Speaker 2: one on Princess Peach, which is when I learned that
- 7:05Speaker 2: you thought it was princesstoad Stool.
- 7:08Speaker 4: She was okay, she thing was You're right, early early
- 7:14Speaker 4: millennials know.
- 7:15Speaker 1: She was Princess.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Told school, who the hell is Princess Peach.
- 7:20Speaker 2: You can hear our confusion in the episode. It's quite
- 7:22Speaker 2: hilarious because I was like, you don't know who Princess Peaches.
- 7:25Speaker 1: We played Mario.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Gart together, Princess tod Stool.
- 7:30Speaker 2: We figured it out in the end, we figured it out.
- 7:34Speaker 2: But yeahspect you can go check that episode out. I
- 7:41Speaker 2: will say I kind of these movies are very nostalgic.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Like I wouldn't say that they're good. There's a part
- 7:48Speaker 2: of me that's like kind of mad at a lot
- 7:51Speaker 2: of them. But I watched it and I enjoyed it,
- 7:54Speaker 2: Like I don't know how to square that within myself,
- 7:57Speaker 2: but it did make me kind of sad that this
- 8:00Speaker 2: is some people's first introduction to Roselna. So if you've
- 8:03Speaker 2: never played the games, this is how you'll see her.
- 8:07Speaker 2: But then I was thinking about it more and I
- 8:08Speaker 2: was like, she's kind of a non person in the
- 8:10Speaker 2: games too, So I don't know, I don't know what
- 8:15Speaker 2: to make of it. Voice by Bree Larson by the way, Uh, Yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 2: they're very nostalgic. I think for people either that music
- 8:24Speaker 2: kicks in you saw somebody, you heard Samantha just says
- 8:27Speaker 2: DK and that song is there.
- 8:31Speaker 1: The music.
- 8:32Speaker 2: One of the characters they introduced in this one, besides you,
- 8:35Speaker 2: she is Starfux and I have very fond memories of
- 8:39Speaker 2: star Fox because it's from of the few games that
- 8:41Speaker 2: my best friend Katie growing up, she would play you normally,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I was the one that would play and she would watch,
- 8:51Speaker 2: but she was the one. I've never played at star Fox,
- 8:54Speaker 2: but I watched her play it, and I knew about
- 8:56Speaker 2: her hatred of the character Slippy in it, and they
- 9:01Speaker 2: have a joke in there about how Slippy is the worst,
- 9:03Speaker 2: so it kind of made me laugh.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So yeah, that's I'm kind of.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Embarrassed about how much more I could say about this,
- 9:12Speaker 2: but that's what I'll say for now.
- 9:17Speaker 4: You should have a lot of thoughts on.
- 9:18Speaker 2: This, yes, yeah, and I had a lot of thoughts
- 9:22Speaker 2: about the first one too, so we're dead. If you
- 9:25Speaker 2: missed this one the first time around, please enjoy this
- 9:29Speaker 2: classic episode. Hey, this is Sanny and Samantha and a
- 9:39Speaker 2: come to Steffan never told you protection of iHeartRadio, and
- 9:51Speaker 2: welcome to another edition of Happy Hour. As always, if
- 9:57Speaker 2: you choose to drink or whatever, you're doing it responsibly.
- 10:02Speaker 2: What are you sitting on, Samantha.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I'm drinking tap? Well, I guess what is it? Room
- 10:08Speaker 4: temperature water, not tap water than that. Oh, we did
- 10:13Speaker 4: have a sponsor that gave us a lovely picture that
- 10:15Speaker 4: we use, and so, of course, so I got a
- 10:18Speaker 4: fancy filtered room temperature water because my teeth.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Is oh always those issues, y'all.
- 10:26Speaker 4: I have baits and so teeth.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that filters fun because it takes forever.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's a timely endeavor, but it's worth it.
- 10:35Speaker 4: It is worth it. I bought new filters, and I
- 10:37Speaker 4: will say the filter is actually made it faster, the
- 10:40Speaker 4: new filters, just so.
- 10:42Speaker 2: We'll have to catch up on that afterwards. Yes, all right,
- 10:46Speaker 2: I'm sitting on a hot toddy. I basically just oh
- 10:51Speaker 2: my well. I won't go into it, but I've been
- 10:54Speaker 2: worried about my voice, especially because it is my job.
- 10:58Speaker 1: It is, and.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I've been having some panic moments about it if you
- 11:03Speaker 2: can hear it a little bit, I think. But because
- 11:05Speaker 2: of that, I made hot toddy, which is essentially I
- 11:08Speaker 2: just put water.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I heated it up. It's like lukewarm.
- 11:11Speaker 2: It's really good, which is a pun for my my
- 11:14Speaker 2: mug which has a picture of Luke Skywalker on it.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Loved some one of my favorite gifts ever.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I love it.
- 11:25Speaker 2: And then I put some cinnamon and ginger and lemon
- 11:29Speaker 2: and a splash of whiskey in it. It's very nice.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Actually, my partner and I whole conversation. We go to
- 11:35Speaker 4: Costco to get our not a sponsor, huh, to get
- 11:38Speaker 4: our liquors because it's cheaper and they have like their
- 11:41Speaker 4: off frands. And we had a debate about getting whiskey
- 11:43Speaker 4: of like Annie's whiskey. We need to have whiskey.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I love that I've included and you are you are?
- 11:52Speaker 1: Makes you really happy? Yes? I love it.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Okay, So this episode, I know there's a lot going on.
- 11:59Speaker 2: There's a what we need to talk about. We are
- 12:01Speaker 2: going to talk about it, I promise. But I actually
- 12:03Speaker 2: wanted to talk about this. I mentioned it a month
- 12:06Speaker 2: ago that I watched I gave in and watched the
- 12:10Speaker 2: new Super Mario Brothers movie. I already had this written
- 12:15Speaker 2: because I think I wrote it like while I was
- 12:17Speaker 2: watching it. But I didn't want to release it during
- 12:19Speaker 2: Pride month because Chris Pratt. Oh yeah yeah, So I
- 12:24Speaker 2: was like, that doesn't feel right, So I will wait.
- 12:28Speaker 1: It's a bit dated, but we are there.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I don't I wouldn't say there's even spoilers, but if
- 12:33Speaker 2: you care, we are going to be talking about it.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But it is funny because.
- 12:38Speaker 4: What I thought you were talking about doing the old
- 12:40Speaker 4: Super Marios.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Okay, yes, so it is funny though, because your partner
- 12:46Speaker 2: and I I had never seen it, or if I had,
- 12:49Speaker 2: I was a kid and did not remember it at all,
- 12:52Speaker 2: and we tried to stay up watching it, and it
- 12:55Speaker 2: was more bizarre than I could even. I knew it
- 13:00Speaker 2: was going to be strange, but it was stranger, and
- 13:04Speaker 2: I didn't make it to the end. I need, I
- 13:06Speaker 2: need to go back and watch it.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I think need is a very strong word.
- 13:11Speaker 2: No, I for me, it's in need. For other people
- 13:15Speaker 2: avoid rightfully so, but for me, it's in need. It
- 13:19Speaker 2: actually came up my mom came to visit me in
- 13:23Speaker 2: Atlanta with my little brother and we had lunch, and
- 13:27Speaker 2: somehow it came up. Me and my little brother talked
- 13:30Speaker 2: about video games a lot, so I imagine that's what happened.
- 13:33Speaker 1: But my mom had.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Seen the old one and was like, didn't I have
- 13:37Speaker 2: like Bob Hoskins.
- 13:38Speaker 4: It was like, yep, sure, we all talk about him.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Oh it's listeners described.
- 13:48Speaker 4: I think I hope there's nothing bad about him.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Me too, Me too. Oh gosh, it's it's so strange.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's this, but so is this one. Okay, So.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I was trying to avoid more because of the Chris
- 14:02Speaker 2: Pratt thing, but also just like I wasn't really excited
- 14:06Speaker 2: about it.
- 14:06Speaker 1: But then.
- 14:08Speaker 2: The writers strike happens, and a lot of the entertainment
- 14:11Speaker 2: I usually enjoyed kind of went away. And I'm not
- 14:13Speaker 2: super Samantha and I were just talking about this. I
- 14:16Speaker 2: don't like TV shows give me anxiety. They give me anxiety.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I like something that's like one and done, and so
- 14:23Speaker 2: I eventually I gave in and I watched this movie.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I've seen it several times now. I will admit the
- 14:30Speaker 2: thing that it has going for it is nostalgia. It
- 14:34Speaker 2: is very, very nostalgic as a kid who grew up
- 14:38Speaker 2: playing like Donkey Kong, that whole scene, all the music.
- 14:42Speaker 2: It made me remember when I made you listen to
- 14:44Speaker 2: that theme song and I was quoting it incessantly for
- 14:49Speaker 2: a while, and it made me laugh because I used
- 14:52Speaker 2: to say with relative ease a.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Lot, yes, And I believe you and my partner still
- 14:58Speaker 4: do this, and I just there's obvious, like I am
- 15:01Speaker 4: the parent and you two are the children, having a
- 15:04Speaker 4: moment together and I am very lost and never come back.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah, are you like you just kind of wander away?
- 15:10Speaker 4: I just like it's literally one of those like are
- 15:13Speaker 4: they hurting anyone?
- 15:14Speaker 5: No?
- 15:14Speaker 4: Okay, moving on.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Yes, but I looked back at our the last time
- 15:20Speaker 2: you and I ran the Peachey Road Race, which happens
- 15:23Speaker 2: every July fourth in person, your partner had texted me
- 15:27Speaker 2: did you finish with relative ease?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Yes?
- 15:33Speaker 3: Yes?
- 15:33Speaker 4: And if he had sometimes to me, I'd be like, what.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I still say? I love it? If you don't know
- 15:40Speaker 2: what I'm talking about. The theme song for the N
- 15:42Speaker 2: sixty four Donkey Kong is horrible and hilarious, but it
- 15:48Speaker 2: is in the movie that was a fun like so
- 15:50Speaker 2: the music is really fun. There's like a Mario Kart
- 15:52Speaker 2: scene and yeah, that's really what it ads going for.
- 15:55Speaker 2: It is sort of the like, oh these were the
- 15:58Speaker 2: games I played or grew up with, or what have you?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Rainbow Road sing. This isn't really a review. I mean
- 16:03Speaker 2: I am reviewing it, but what I more wanted to
- 16:05Speaker 2: talk about is because we had are very hilarious in
- 16:09Speaker 2: my opinion, Princess Peach slash Toadstool episode in which it
- 16:16Speaker 2: was hilarious in that you kept saying you didn't know
- 16:18Speaker 2: who Princess Peach was, and I was like, I've seen
- 16:22Speaker 2: you play and.
- 16:23Speaker 4: I had no idea that's what she was called in
- 16:25Speaker 4: my head. Her name is Princess Toadstool.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it took us name change.
- 16:31Speaker 4: By the way, it didn't make sense to me.
- 16:34Speaker 1: But you got your Jack Black theme song that I
- 16:37Speaker 1: sing to your dog, now you do?
- 16:40Speaker 4: You don't sing to my dog?
- 16:41Speaker 1: I once.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Well, well, anyway, so you should go check out that
- 16:48Speaker 2: episode if you haven't, because we kind of talked about
- 16:52Speaker 2: sort of the sexism in these games, especially when it
- 16:56Speaker 2: comes to Peach is sort of your prize. The princess
- 16:59Speaker 2: is not a castle, which they have a joke about
- 17:01Speaker 2: in this movie. It was interesting because they try to
- 17:17Speaker 2: make a Peach more bad and I would say she
- 17:20Speaker 2: is she is, uh, But ultimately it does all come
- 17:28Speaker 2: down to Bowser is in love with her and wants
- 17:32Speaker 2: to marry her and is going to destroy her whole kingdom,
- 17:38Speaker 2: the Mushroom Kingdom if she doesn't agree, And so it's
- 17:46Speaker 2: weird because it's like they try to make her a
- 17:50Speaker 2: stronger character, like more of a character, and she definitely
- 17:54Speaker 2: has like she has, she's really proficient with weapons.
- 17:57Speaker 1: She's really to show up Mario a lot.
- 18:02Speaker 2: But ultimately it does boil down to He's trying to
- 18:06Speaker 2: Bowser's trying to marry her. And I was watching this
- 18:10Speaker 2: and it's not like that's new at all, because that
- 18:13Speaker 2: is like the game, that is exactly the plot we
- 18:16Speaker 2: talked about it in that episode we did on Princess
- 18:18Speaker 2: Peach lashto Tool that is the plot of one of
- 18:20Speaker 2: the games, is that he like tries to not only
- 18:23Speaker 2: kidnap her, which he does in almost everyone, but he.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Tries to marry her.
- 18:28Speaker 2: And it was weird because I was watching this as
- 18:30Speaker 2: an adult and I was like, I can't believe it's
- 18:33Speaker 2: twenty twenty three and I'm watching a movie where marriage
- 18:37Speaker 2: is kind of being used as a weapon, where it's
- 18:39Speaker 2: very much like he's going to control her via marriage
- 18:45Speaker 2: and if she doesn't agree, he's going to kill everyone
- 18:49Speaker 2: she cares about. Obviously, yes, And and it's framed is
- 18:56Speaker 2: very funny and Jack Black is amazing, Like the song
- 18:58Speaker 2: is really good. He's really great actor. He's really funny
- 19:01Speaker 2: in it. But it's like kind of the funny aspect
- 19:07Speaker 2: of Toxic masculinity because he has so many lines that
- 19:10Speaker 2: are funny, but when you think about them, you're like, oh,
- 19:14Speaker 2: this is real messed up. Like he's essentially we're supposed
- 19:21Speaker 2: to laugh because he's this.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Big villain and he's like, oh, I want to have.
- 19:25Speaker 3: The happy fairy tale wedding, and you're like aha, but
- 19:29Speaker 3: then like, oh no, he's actually like trying to manipulate
- 19:33Speaker 3: this person, who he says is like beautiful and smart
- 19:37Speaker 3: and straw all this stuff into marrying him, and he
- 19:40Speaker 3: thinks that will make him very, very happy.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And he has a.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Line where he's yelling at Mario where he's like I
- 19:48Speaker 2: was finally gonna be happy, which I feel is like
- 19:52Speaker 2: very in cell kind of language when you're like talking
- 19:55Speaker 2: about what you're you know, if only this woman would
- 20:00Speaker 2: give me what I want, I would be happy and
- 20:03Speaker 2: then it would be fine.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But instance she didn't, and now he's resorting to all
- 20:07Speaker 1: this violence.
- 20:07Speaker 2: And I bet a lot of you listening are like, Eddie,
- 20:09Speaker 2: this was like a cartoon movie for kids, but I
- 20:14Speaker 2: can't turn off my feminist brain. And I was watching
- 20:17Speaker 2: this and I just thought, you know, kids are probably
- 20:22Speaker 2: watching it, loving it, and we're not it's strange to me.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I guess that it's still that was the plot line,
- 20:30Speaker 2: or maybe not strange, but not something I'm comforted by, right.
- 20:35Speaker 4: I mean, essentially we were. It does feel like a
- 20:38Speaker 4: step back when for so long we've been like, oh, yay,
- 20:41Speaker 4: we finally have a superhero or heroes that are women
- 20:44Speaker 4: who can do their own thing. But then we talked
- 20:45Speaker 4: about Marvel like yay women, Oh no, women are bad.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Apparently Still it gets the push back and forth of
- 20:52Speaker 4: like you're kind of doing it, but you're doing the
- 20:54Speaker 4: minimal and doing it and then you're doing it in
- 20:56Speaker 4: a way that's just not really well done. So is
- 20:59Speaker 4: it more now?
- 21:01Speaker 5: Right?
- 21:02Speaker 2: I saw an article today we need to come back
- 21:04Speaker 2: to but it was like Marvel, you got to stop
- 21:06Speaker 2: fridging your women. But yeah, I mean essentially because like
- 21:09Speaker 2: they they did, like I said, they made her stronger,
- 21:13Speaker 2: they made her more bad, but it felt very much
- 21:17Speaker 2: like they knew people were gonna be like mad about it,
- 21:21Speaker 2: so like no, no, no, no, she's strong. See, can
- 21:24Speaker 2: she can hold her own she can do all this
- 21:25Speaker 2: stuff with weapons all and whatever.
- 21:28Speaker 1: But then they were like still.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Again, I kind of go back to the mad Max,
- 21:34Speaker 4: the new version with Charlie's their own, but like everybody
- 21:38Speaker 4: was so mad because it was like feminist because she
- 21:41Speaker 4: was the one that was driving the truck and there's
- 21:43Speaker 4: was women and all these things. But I'm like, but
- 21:44Speaker 4: still in the end, it was the Max dude who
- 21:47Speaker 4: had to sacrifice himself to save them all. He was
- 21:51Speaker 4: still the lead with this Charlie's character just staring in
- 21:56Speaker 4: anguish half the time. Like that was and I'm like,
- 22:02Speaker 4: it was a good movie. I wanted to support it
- 22:04Speaker 4: just because everybody, all the men were mad. I'm like,
- 22:05Speaker 4: this is the movie that you're mad at? Like this
- 22:08Speaker 4: is this one? Like if all the movies should be
- 22:11Speaker 4: mad at, it's say something like kill Bill, which the
- 22:13Speaker 4: antagonist is a woman that's killing everyone, including the teacher,
- 22:17Speaker 4: the main hero guy, and somehow y'all are okay with this,
- 22:20Speaker 4: like because it was made by a dude who kind
- 22:23Speaker 4: of actively hates women. I don't know, Like I'm not sure,
- 22:26Speaker 4: but the whole stance is like it's not as feminist
- 22:29Speaker 4: as you think it is, but you're mad because it's
- 22:32Speaker 4: implying they could be.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the interesting thing because we've talked about that
- 22:38Speaker 2: a lot, because I feel like there's this thing especially
- 22:42Speaker 2: in like traditionally perceived as masculine spieces, so video games
- 22:48Speaker 2: is a huge one. And in fact, there was an
- 22:51Speaker 2: article did you see this Smith that there's an article
- 22:53Speaker 2: that came out the other day that said more women
- 22:56Speaker 2: play video games? And it got like raaks with the
- 22:58Speaker 2: cools by men who are like, that's some pop that's impossible.
- 23:01Speaker 2: It was just like a It was just a straight
- 23:04Speaker 2: up like this is the survey found and they were.
- 23:07Speaker 6: Like, oh, yes, yes, So this is still like a
- 23:15Speaker 6: huge deal in the video game world.
- 23:18Speaker 2: And I feel like in a lot of those cases
- 23:21Speaker 2: and a lot of those spaces, it's you can have
- 23:26Speaker 2: your women, you can have your like female character be
- 23:31Speaker 2: a little bit stronger, but only to a point, only
- 23:34Speaker 2: until she's still sexualized, only like she still has to
- 23:38Speaker 2: fit in our like masculine gaze.
- 23:41Speaker 1: And the fact that this was like.
- 23:45Speaker 2: A wedding storyline used to entrap her as even though
- 23:50Speaker 2: she's like quote, you know, more bad, it feels very
- 23:54Speaker 2: much like she's still being seen.
- 23:58Speaker 4: The Maria honestly gay because I played it for a
- 24:01Speaker 4: split second and then my partner enjoyed it way more
- 24:04Speaker 4: because I got to a point I'm like, I'm gonna
- 24:05Speaker 4: die all the time, so I quit now. Is the
- 24:09Speaker 4: plot point to rescue the princess?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know.
- 24:14Speaker 4: I think it is.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Is that the one?
- 24:18Speaker 2: So there is one game where the exact plot point
- 24:21Speaker 2: is that Bowser's in like a white wedding suit.
- 24:24Speaker 1: He's got a top.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's I think I remember, Like, this
- 24:27Speaker 4: sounds really familiar. And I've never watched this movie. I've
- 24:31Speaker 4: never watched the previews. I know nothing about it. I
- 24:33Speaker 4: knew that Chris Pratt was gonna be the voice. I
- 24:35Speaker 4: was like, why, it doesn't even make sense. It's not sense.
- 24:40Speaker 4: So also to say that I have no interest, but
- 24:43Speaker 4: I feel like I think the Odyssey is the one
- 24:47Speaker 4: where the dude's like, I got I'm gonna marry her
- 24:49Speaker 4: and keeps kidnapping her and then he sends a Tinchman
- 24:52Speaker 4: to fight Mario in different scenarios, which I always die.
- 24:56Speaker 4: I always die. This is why I hate these games.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Been on the switch, still angry, It's okay, I'm okay.
- 25:04Speaker 4: But the plum point is that he has to get her,
- 25:07Speaker 4: him and Hattie whatever the name of the hat is. Yes,
- 25:10Speaker 4: that's how you can be a co op and I'm
- 25:13Speaker 4: still bad at it, but I'm trying to remember I
- 25:17Speaker 4: think that's the whole plot point. And I'm like, that's
- 25:19Speaker 4: a newer game and it's one of the most popular
- 25:21Speaker 4: games out there. The fact that it is a newer game,
- 25:25Speaker 4: I guess you have to have some kind of ultimate goal,
- 25:29Speaker 4: but it seems odd that this is the ultimate goal,
- 25:32Speaker 4: the marriage line, because I don't feel like the Super
- 25:33Speaker 4: Mario three that was the intent. It was just to
- 25:36Speaker 4: help her to find her right right.
- 25:38Speaker 2: A lot of them are just She's like, not in
- 25:40Speaker 2: your castle, you have to find her.
- 25:43Speaker 1: And I will say.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Maybe not in defensive but to clarify in the movie,
- 25:49Speaker 2: she does she agrees to the marriage because she's trying
- 25:55Speaker 2: to protect her people, but she does have a plan
- 26:00Speaker 2: to get out of it, and does she does attack
- 26:04Speaker 2: Bowser and he was like, well, then we're wreaking up
- 26:07Speaker 2: right now. So yeah, I'm working on my voices of
- 26:16Speaker 2: good yeah, thank you.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Again.
- 26:28Speaker 2: One of those things where I feel like they did.
- 26:31Speaker 2: They knew that our conversation has changed since the games
- 26:35Speaker 2: came out. People wouldn't be happy if that was the
- 26:38Speaker 2: whole plot point, so they kept trying to give you
- 26:40Speaker 2: like no seapeaches really strong and she was, but it
- 26:43Speaker 2: still felt like just a little bit and she still
- 26:46Speaker 2: ended up. Yeah, Mario had to save her and Bowser,
- 26:52Speaker 2: perhaps not surprisingly, did not take rejection really well. And
- 26:57Speaker 2: so there's like this whole scene that I was just
- 26:59Speaker 2: a iagining kids watching of this guy being like, you've
- 27:02Speaker 2: ruined everything, you made me so sell like all this stuff.
- 27:07Speaker 2: And then yeah, Mario and Luigi's ate the day it
- 27:11Speaker 2: really you know, like I said, it was nostalgic. I
- 27:15Speaker 2: liked that part of it that I just thought, I
- 27:19Speaker 2: just because it's really really popular. That movie has been
- 27:23Speaker 2: the number one on like all renting platforms since it
- 27:27Speaker 2: became available to rent.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Really yeah, he was the only person that I know
- 27:33Speaker 4: that's watched that movie.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Wow.
- 27:35Speaker 4: I don't know a lot of people though.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Well, but I mean I imagine a lot of its kids,
- 27:42Speaker 2: a lot of its kids watching it, and it it just.
- 27:48Speaker 1: It is a step forward in some ways, but in
- 27:50Speaker 1: so many ways.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I was like, but you're still you still want this
- 27:54Speaker 2: way Mario, she doesn't. It's definitely gonna be a sequel
- 28:01Speaker 2: because at the end, like Yoshi, who wasn't in it,
- 28:05Speaker 2: comes out of his like egg, So it kind of
- 28:09Speaker 2: been down a like eighties like whoo oh wait, yo,
- 28:12Speaker 2: she's coming on and the next one. Yeah, I would
- 28:14Speaker 2: assume they made enough money. I'm sure they're gonna make
- 28:17Speaker 2: another one. But yeah, I just you know what if
- 28:21Speaker 2: you if you listeners haven't watched it, you want to.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I just I would love to hear your thoughts about it,
- 28:26Speaker 2: because literally I was watching it, I was like, am I.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Being too much about this? Like I don't think I am.
- 28:32Speaker 1: It's not it is odd, it is very strange. I will.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I am also going to Universal, as I've said, not
- 28:39Speaker 2: a sponsor because the Last of Us is going to
- 28:42Speaker 2: be there.
- 28:43Speaker 4: But they have over the whole thing or is it
- 28:47Speaker 4: just one little area?
- 28:50Speaker 1: Have you ever been during Halloween handed nights? No?
- 28:53Speaker 4: I think we went to the Disney World and it
- 28:55Speaker 4: was way.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah that was different. Yeah. So basically they there's
- 29:00Speaker 2: ten haunted houses and they just pop up. It's every
- 29:04Speaker 2: the whole park, the Universal studios, but they're not they
- 29:08Speaker 2: don't take over like a ride or anything.
- 29:09Speaker 1: All the rides are still open.
- 29:11Speaker 2: But there is a Mario Land in Universal now, so
- 29:17Speaker 2: I will be going.
- 29:18Speaker 1: It has a Mario Kart ride.
- 29:19Speaker 2: I've heard interesting things about it, mostly that it's just
- 29:23Speaker 2: like not complete, nothing bad.
- 29:25Speaker 4: But it's finished, like you're not going to die on it,
- 29:27Speaker 4: are you?
- 29:28Speaker 1: No?
- 29:28Speaker 4: No, okay, I mean it is not complete.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Sorry, sorry to clarify. I meant the part that part
- 29:37Speaker 2: of the park. The ride is complete. Okay, okay, okay, yes,
- 29:43Speaker 2: but I will be taking pictures and I will I'll
- 29:45Speaker 2: report back. It's a it's I think it's going to
- 29:50Speaker 2: be strange because it's got like the ride has like
- 29:52Speaker 2: three D it's like three D glasses where you're I
- 29:56Speaker 2: don't know, shooting off red shells and stuff.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Oh, I.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Know, I'm a little concerned. I think I'll be fine,
- 30:04Speaker 2: but I don't know about.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Some of my friends that would be so sick. I'll
- 30:09Speaker 4: report back, yeah, let me know.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yes, yes, but in the meantime, cheers, cheers.
- 30:16Speaker 2: That's I could have gone on and on, but that's
- 30:18Speaker 2: what I'll say about the new super Maris Brothers movie.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Although also one more thing. The age difference between the
- 30:27Speaker 2: actors kind of weves me out.
- 30:28Speaker 5: But all right, that being said, if you have any thoughts,
- 30:36Speaker 5: please please please on this one or the old one.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, please write in.
