- 0:05Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:07Speaker 1: The plays get broken down, Ben Science gets denied this.
- 0:10Speaker 3: I got to come off the Bench.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from the Mercedes Bend.
- 0:15Speaker 1: So Baton Rouge Studio starts now.
- 0:27Speaker 4: One O four to five ESPN bet Rouge. You heard
- 0:30Speaker 4: Taylor there.
- 0:30Speaker 2: All right, we're.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Excited and we're gonna continue to try to do this
- 0:33Speaker 3: throughout the football season. Maybe at some point we had
- 0:36Speaker 3: this on video and it is the Meathead quad Box.
- 0:39Speaker 3: But we're gonna welcome on our meathead brethren here. Now
- 0:43Speaker 3: bear with us. Right, you got four meatheads trying to
- 0:45Speaker 3: figure out a three way call. I didn't know that
- 0:47Speaker 3: that was still something that you could actually do.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Haven't tried one of those since middle school.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Look, one of us meatheads is a professor of finance,
- 0:54Speaker 3: but he's not here. He's in Ohio, so we're gonna
- 0:56Speaker 3: pot him up. Let's see if we have our guys,
- 0:58Speaker 3: AJ Hawk and Bobby Carpenter fellas.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Did we got you?
- 1:03Speaker 5: Yea, sir, you got me?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Oh, we got Bobby.
- 1:05Speaker 5: I'm here.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Look at us. Uh, you put four meathead brains together,
- 1:11Speaker 3: you get half a brain. Sell and here we are, fellas.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I am glad to have you on the show. How
- 1:16Speaker 3: fired up for college football? Bobby?
- 1:19Speaker 4: I gotta start with you.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I mean your boots on the ground like you've got
- 1:22Speaker 3: the game of the week in your backyard. You're gonna
- 1:24Speaker 3: be riding the bikes down to Ohio Stadium to check
- 1:28Speaker 3: out the Buckeyes and the Longhorns.
- 1:30Speaker 4: How fired up are we for the game of the week.
- 1:33Speaker 5: Oh, this is a game you've been waiting all off season.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Four guys, you've been talking about transfer portals, nil house
- 1:38Speaker 5: settlement court cases, all that nonsense. How you finally get
- 1:41Speaker 5: a chance to see some actual football? Started last night
- 1:44Speaker 5: with some great games on there. I know Hess and
- 1:45Speaker 5: I were talking about the South Florida Bowls and Alex
- 1:48Speaker 5: you'las gett't have done. But tomorrow you get the main
- 1:51Speaker 5: entree right off the bat, full slated games Saturday, full Sunday,
- 1:55Speaker 5: and then a little lunch you on Monday night as well.
- 1:57Speaker 5: But a noonkick. It is beautiful, came so highlight. You know,
- 2:01Speaker 5: we call it the San Diego the Midwest because of
- 2:03Speaker 5: the weather. You get about like eighteen good days a year,
- 2:06Speaker 5: and thankfully we're in that sweet spot right now where
- 2:08Speaker 5: we're in one of those nice little San Diego days
- 2:10Speaker 5: where I'm sitting outside. It's about sixty five degrees, no humidity,
- 2:14Speaker 5: and this is what it's supposed to be like all
- 2:16Speaker 5: through the weekend. So a beautiful day to watch some football.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Take it in and there should be no elements of
- 2:22Speaker 5: weather that are impacting what should be a phenomenal game. Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I think Columbus and San Diego they pretty pretty equal
- 2:29Speaker 2: climates over there, so that's a good Yeah. So hey,
- 2:33Speaker 2: J So you're on the road right now, so you're
- 2:35Speaker 2: you're head I'm assuming you're headed to the McAfee show.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Where are y'all headed right now? So what's the plan
- 2:40Speaker 2: for the Friday for this season? On game day day?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Before game days?
- 2:46Speaker 6: Yeah, Pat would just get into town and he has
- 2:49Speaker 6: game day stuff, but we're going to do a show
- 2:51Speaker 6: from inside the stadium. Actually, it's not like an outside
- 2:54Speaker 6: full like show with people there and all that. It
- 2:56Speaker 6: will be just Pat and I actually.
- 2:58Speaker 7: At the desk. I think it.
- 2:59Speaker 6: Somewhere inside Ohio Stadium and have a few guests stop by.
- 3:04Speaker 6: I think maybe benj Young is in town. I think
- 3:06Speaker 6: he might hopefully stop by and we'll see who else
- 3:09Speaker 6: we can wringle up. But yeah, like obvious said, just
- 3:12Speaker 6: a beautiful day, great time for football. I don't know
- 3:14Speaker 6: what it's like down where you guys, probably one hundred,
- 3:17Speaker 6: super humid yere in Ohio and we're excited. We're excited
- 3:21Speaker 6: about football starting.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, well we gotta high in ninety one today, so
- 3:24Speaker 2: it's actually starting to cool down. But so y'all are
- 3:26Speaker 2: going to be in the stadium, not the crowd, so
- 3:28Speaker 2: you don't have to, like live and national television miss
- 3:31Speaker 2: a bunch of basketball shots anymore from the desk.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Well, flinter, that's the great thing.
- 3:37Speaker 5: That's a tough shot.
- 3:38Speaker 6: I'm not gonna lie from an elevated position shooting down
- 3:40Speaker 6: in a windy conditions. I think I've made more almost
- 3:43Speaker 6: everywhere where God will actually have had to shoot it.
- 3:45Speaker 6: Sometimes it's taken me three, four or five six shots
- 3:48Speaker 6: to get there. But uh, yeah, I've made a few
- 3:51Speaker 6: of them.
- 3:51Speaker 5: But today I doubt.
- 3:52Speaker 6: You never know, actually, who knows, well, if we find
- 3:54Speaker 6: a hoop, I might be shooting on it.
- 3:55Speaker 5: You never know.
- 3:56Speaker 6: I can miss ten or twelve today, Bob.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I would also know. I mean, since I mean both
- 4:02Speaker 3: of you are going to be there. I mean, if
- 4:04Speaker 3: you know a certain Michigan fan that you know is
- 4:07Speaker 3: the owner of a pretty big sports company. I didn't
- 4:09Speaker 3: know if you were going to be maybe the tour
- 4:11Speaker 3: guide there, Bob, and kind of show him around Columbus
- 4:13Speaker 3: and just let him know.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Well. The best part is the guy that played between us,
- 4:18Speaker 5: mister Anthony Schlegel. He used to be a strength CORITERI
- 4:20Speaker 5: at Ohio State. You know, he's in charge of security
- 4:24Speaker 5: for the weekend. They tapped him and he is a
- 4:26Speaker 5: big proponent of no trespassing. You know, you saw what
- 4:29Speaker 5: happened about a decade ago when one of the students
- 4:32Speaker 5: got a little out of pocket schlags. I mean, he's
- 4:34Speaker 5: about ten years older, but I've been training him, We've
- 4:36Speaker 5: been doing some of the h and still think of
- 4:41Speaker 5: hip and spread guys up. I think he feels pretty
- 4:44Speaker 5: good about the fact that someone owners the stadium. That's
- 4:47Speaker 5: you know, I permitted to be there. Maybe not really
- 4:50Speaker 5: all that welcome, but he'll be able to shut that
- 4:52Speaker 5: down in a hurry.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Huh, Bobby, are you gonna be walking around the tailgate
- 4:57Speaker 2: in the pregame tomorrow you can be walking around with
- 4:58Speaker 2: the medaglasses kind of recorded and everything. Uh, just kind
- 5:02Speaker 2: of just a live feed of Bobby walking around with
- 5:04Speaker 2: his medaglasses.
- 5:06Speaker 5: You know what's amazing, I've got him on right now.
- 5:08Speaker 5: I mean, I didn't realize it was going to be driving.
- 5:10Speaker 5: I was fully anticipating that the Stallions out there, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 5: to be cruising. That's that's the new name of them.
- 5:15Speaker 5: By the way, there's only one name in the Medicasses,
- 5:18Speaker 5: there's the Stallions. So I've gone them on and that's
- 5:20Speaker 5: you know, I did not think about that. That's a
- 5:22Speaker 5: great way. It's I've always kind of wanted to go
- 5:25Speaker 5: pro myself when I've been, you know, hydrating before a game,
- 5:29Speaker 5: because there's there's little parts to become omitted, and you know,
- 5:31Speaker 5: you get you get to where the tape gets cut.
- 5:33Speaker 5: And so maybe I just put these bad boys on
- 5:35Speaker 5: and cruise on around. It'll it'll be like me watching
- 5:38Speaker 5: myself and get into experience it all one more time.
- 5:40Speaker 5: The next day.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Oh, I can't wait to hear the stories about that.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I'm sure AJ will have some as well.
- 5:46Speaker 5: A J.
- 5:47Speaker 3: How you feeling about the game. I've asked Bobby about
- 5:49Speaker 3: it over all Meadhead Radio. But how you feeling? I mean,
- 5:52Speaker 3: Buck guys, national champ, welcoming Texas the number one team
- 5:55Speaker 3: the first time AJ the number one team in the
- 5:57Speaker 3: preseason eight people has ever been under in the opening
- 6:01Speaker 3: game and it's against the Buck guys.
- 6:02Speaker 4: How you feeling about the matchup?
- 6:05Speaker 5: Man?
- 6:05Speaker 6: I feel pretty good. I mean, that's the thing right now,
- 6:07Speaker 6: we don't really know. We don't really know what either
- 6:09Speaker 6: team is gonna be. There's there's so many guys that
- 6:12Speaker 6: are gonna be playing that don't have a ton of experience,
- 6:14Speaker 6: but they're super talented. But no, I feel good. I
- 6:17Speaker 6: know State we had to basically get a couple of
- 6:20Speaker 6: new coordinators, Matt Patricia. I'm excited to see what the
- 6:23Speaker 6: defense looks like under the helmets of him and r
- 6:26Speaker 6: and Brian Hartline on the offensive side. But Arch Manning like,
- 6:29Speaker 6: I'm sure you guys are intrigued by that, and the
- 6:31Speaker 6: guys awesome. I love how he cares himself, how he plays,
- 6:35Speaker 6: so I'm I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles
- 6:38Speaker 6: everything with Ohio Stateum, it'll be left for sure, but
- 6:40Speaker 6: nothing arts can't can't figure out or it can't or
- 6:43Speaker 6: hasn't been in front of the guy's been in some
- 6:46Speaker 6: games in his life, but it'll be I mean, talk
- 6:48Speaker 6: about a test thrown in there as first time really
- 6:51Speaker 6: as you're like the the main starter of the Texas
- 6:55Speaker 6: Longhorns and you come into Ohio State and it's gonna
- 6:58Speaker 6: be awesome. I think it's fat frying game. I don't
- 7:01Speaker 6: know what it's gonna be.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:03Speaker 6: You have think it's gonna be a high scoring game
- 7:05Speaker 6: and one of those leaders low scoring like early season games.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah. So I know if a J Hawk and Bobby
- 7:11Speaker 2: Carpenter were taking the field for a hut of state
- 7:14Speaker 2: with a guy like Arch Manning coming to the town,
- 7:16Speaker 2: I know y'all would probably like to get together and
- 7:19Speaker 2: talk about sending a little bit bit of a message
- 7:21Speaker 2: to him early on. Do you guys have is Ohio
- 7:24Speaker 2: State have some linebackers right now that kind of fit
- 7:27Speaker 2: the mold of what you're you know, of what y'all
- 7:29Speaker 2: were for so long at Ohio State. Y'all, you have
- 7:32Speaker 2: some guys that y'all have kind of you would take
- 7:34Speaker 2: under your wing if you could, and say this is
- 7:36Speaker 2: one of our brothers.
- 7:38Speaker 5: Yeah, they've they've got some great guys up there front.
- 7:41Speaker 5: I mean Sonny Styles, rbl Reeves six three six, four guys,
- 7:45Speaker 5: two hundred and forty pounds to run. They check all
- 7:48Speaker 5: the boxes and then a third guy is gonna be
- 7:50Speaker 5: rotating in with them, little Short Payton, Piercell six one
- 7:53Speaker 5: and a half. But all those guys they get to
- 7:55Speaker 5: the ball, they got bad intentions. The biggest thing is
- 7:58Speaker 5: they can run well and they can do a lot
- 7:59Speaker 5: of things. And so if you have versatile linebackers, which
- 8:02Speaker 5: I'd like to think that we have some position versatility,
- 8:05Speaker 5: you can get those guys up on the edge. You
- 8:07Speaker 5: can change up your front, you can change up your
- 8:09Speaker 5: coverages and to really try to keep the quarterbacks guessing.
- 8:12Speaker 5: And then above all else, the guys have great personality.
- 8:15Speaker 5: They've got a great sense of humor because because they
- 8:17Speaker 5: can tell you for whatever, and you're in the locker
- 8:19Speaker 5: room with him, I mean, you've got to be able
- 8:21Speaker 5: to have some fun on the field. Things got to
- 8:22Speaker 5: get a little weird. You got to try to psych
- 8:24Speaker 5: your opponents out by doing some things, you know what
- 8:26Speaker 5: may make them ask some deep questions about themselves and
- 8:29Speaker 5: really what they're into in their life.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I'd like to get really take some deep dives.
- 8:36Speaker 7: I am nervous.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I am nervous for what Bobby said. Ajay, oh no,
- 8:41Speaker 3: don't be see Bob.
- 8:43Speaker 6: What I realized early on in my freshman year is Bob.
- 8:46Speaker 6: I think I've told you guys like Bob was the
- 8:48Speaker 6: best ever at pumping the crowd. Like, no matter what,
- 8:50Speaker 6: Bob's going to be doing the hall cove and putting
- 8:52Speaker 6: his hand to the ear, one hand of the ear
- 8:54Speaker 6: to the other one, pumping them up. He all likes
- 8:57Speaker 6: all game long. But most people their shoulders will get
- 9:00Speaker 6: pumping the crowd up, and Bob would like I would
- 9:02Speaker 6: love I would love talking to Bob in between plays
- 9:05Speaker 6: when he would he'd be like, hey, hey watch.
- 9:07Speaker 3: This, hold on, here we go.
- 9:08Speaker 6: You go and get him going, coach, and he's look
- 9:09Speaker 6: at me and just start pumping the crowd. And he
- 9:12Speaker 6: would just at random times.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Like the dude would be like a QB could be
- 9:16Speaker 5: in the middle of.
- 9:17Speaker 6: His cadence and Bob didn't care. He's gonna stand up.
- 9:20Speaker 6: He's playing like a stand up d n outside Sambacker.
- 9:23Speaker 6: He's gonna stand up. He's going to point out individual
- 9:25Speaker 6: people that he's tied in the crowd. And start getting
- 9:28Speaker 6: them going so they feel really like weird, like, hey,
- 9:31Speaker 6: this number forty two stoo up, but actually looked at me.
- 9:33Speaker 6: I'm up and see deck a mile away. He pointed
- 9:36Speaker 6: at me and told me to get up and start cheering,
- 9:37Speaker 6: so I will guilt people into cheering.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Is he just like is he just like waving his
- 9:42Speaker 2: hands up to the side like pumping it up that way,
- 9:44Speaker 2: or is he holding this like hands like prolonged like
- 9:46Speaker 2: a waiter carries a tray and pushing straight up like
- 9:49Speaker 2: which one does?
- 9:49Speaker 6: He do both both. He's kind of raising the roof
- 9:52Speaker 6: every once in a while. Sometimes he'll raise the roof
- 9:54Speaker 6: with it. Sometimes he does the old school pump the crowd.
- 9:57Speaker 5: But I tell you what, like he plays that crowd
- 9:59Speaker 5: like a fiddle.
- 10:00Speaker 6: One hundred and five thousand people he's got eating out
- 10:02Speaker 6: his hands.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Now, Bobby, were you a like a twel helicopter guy
- 10:05Speaker 2: on the sideline too when the offense was out there?
- 10:08Speaker 5: No, listen all my pumping the crowds front. It was
- 10:12Speaker 5: reserved for on the field, Like you don't want to
- 10:14Speaker 5: be pumping the crowd on your offenses out there, like
- 10:16Speaker 5: they're just cheered for the big place I tell these
- 10:18Speaker 5: guys here defensively, you want them to cheer, You've got
- 10:21Speaker 5: to let them know, like they're coachable, but you've got
- 10:23Speaker 5: to really instruct them and kind of bring them there
- 10:25Speaker 5: with you. It's a symbiotic relationship. I do feed off them,
- 10:29Speaker 5: they feed off you, and you get so damn excited
- 10:31Speaker 5: just being out there being a part of that. I mean,
- 10:33Speaker 5: where else can you be down in the arena in
- 10:35Speaker 5: front of one hundred thousand people and when you throw
- 10:38Speaker 5: your hands up in the air, they're coming off of
- 10:40Speaker 5: their seats and gonna get going. Like that's a very
- 10:43Speaker 5: brief moment of your life. So once that's done, man, like, no,
- 10:45Speaker 5: it cares now. I keept going. He can walk into
- 10:48Speaker 5: a stadium, Dude, I kept walking to an airport and
- 10:50Speaker 5: start pumping the crowds. You will start cheering, but they're
- 10:52Speaker 5: probably put me in a straight jacket.
- 10:55Speaker 2: You gotta win the crowd, like Maximus, you gotta win
- 10:58Speaker 2: the crowd.
- 10:59Speaker 3: AJ four Bobby this weekend. If I was to set
- 11:02Speaker 3: the line on number of times, he's randomly gonna take
- 11:05Speaker 3: his shirt off. And if I set the line at three,
- 11:07Speaker 3: are you taking the over or the under.
- 11:11Speaker 7: Cool?
- 11:11Speaker 6: I mean It depends how the weekend is. But if
- 11:14Speaker 6: it's I'm always taking the over if you're giving me.
- 11:17Speaker 6: Bob taking a shirt off, I mean, but that's something
- 11:19Speaker 6: he could do to take a shirt off and whip
- 11:22Speaker 6: the shirt around two to pump the crowds. And maybe
- 11:24Speaker 6: he'll do it inside it. I don't know if he's
- 11:25Speaker 6: ever done that in the crowd in the stadium. That'd
- 11:27Speaker 6: be impressive, Bob. If you could do that, you could
- 11:29Speaker 6: run around the run around the perimeter of the stand
- 11:32Speaker 6: and get people going.
- 11:33Speaker 5: See, this is why my wife doesn't go to games
- 11:36Speaker 5: with me anymore. Guys. She doesn't like that. I was
- 11:39Speaker 5: trying to entice her. I've got four tickets plus I
- 11:42Speaker 5: media passed. I was like, dear, why don't we take
- 11:44Speaker 5: the three oldest kids and you can be my date?
- 11:46Speaker 5: And she's like, no, just let one of the kids
- 11:48Speaker 5: bring a friend. And I'm like lobbying her. She doesn't
- 11:51Speaker 5: like to go to games with me, and I'm like,
- 11:53Speaker 5: I'm the same dude, really married, you know, twenty years ago.
- 11:56Speaker 5: So I don't know what we're complaining about.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Bob.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Is the car under HVAC company still got the flexing
- 12:02Speaker 3: Bobby carpenter on the scoreboard. It's a real question.
- 12:05Speaker 5: Yeah, he's still hanging out there trying to work on
- 12:08Speaker 5: his guns. The best part is when it's a caricature,
- 12:10Speaker 5: you always stay the same size and you never lose
- 12:12Speaker 5: your hair. So I love looking at that guy. It's
- 12:16Speaker 5: aspiracial goals, you know.
- 12:19Speaker 2: All Right? So hey, Jay, I'm watching the game, last
- 12:21Speaker 2: time watching Nebraska play, and I'm watching I'm watching Dylan
- 12:26Speaker 2: Raola play quarterback for the Chiefs, looking exactly like Patrick Mahons.
- 12:30Speaker 2: But it got me thinking about his dad, and it
- 12:31Speaker 2: got me thinking about like the battles that you had
- 12:34Speaker 2: with the center for the Lions, Dominic Royola and somebody
- 12:37Speaker 2: an LSU tiger that has beloved here Steven Peterman playing
- 12:40Speaker 2: guard right next to them, and I wanted to see, like,
- 12:42Speaker 2: do you have any like specific stories of how nasty
- 12:46Speaker 2: of a duo that Rayola and Peterman were. I never
- 12:50Speaker 2: just watch them from the sideline. I know you played
- 12:51Speaker 2: them twice a year, but I had never seen a
- 12:54Speaker 2: do on offensive line. Now, offensive linemen are nasty people,
- 12:56Speaker 2: but these guys were nasty and played dirty like within
- 12:59Speaker 2: the whistle.
- 13:01Speaker 6: Yeah, you're right, their next level, I'll tell you what.
- 13:04Speaker 5: I grew to have so much respect for those guys.
- 13:05Speaker 6: I love how they played, like even like Rea. One
- 13:09Speaker 6: of my favorite things was walking down the tunnel in
- 13:11Speaker 6: Detroit and I have to fight a way to break
- 13:14Speaker 6: up Reola and I'll go buddy, Nick Barnett are getting
- 13:17Speaker 6: each other's face, trying to get in a fight pregame
- 13:19Speaker 6: while they're walking through the into the tunnel just to
- 13:21Speaker 6: get to the field. Uh man, those guys like Rayola.
- 13:25Speaker 7: Is never stopping like he every once in a while.
- 13:27Speaker 6: I know he was just like your legs like as
- 13:31Speaker 6: the whistles blowner later like I always I appreciate it,
- 13:38Speaker 6: Like if you don't want to tell me on my head,
- 13:40Speaker 6: like trying to take my temple and knock me out
- 13:43Speaker 6: of because I can. I don't want you to take
- 13:45Speaker 6: out playing those students twice a year, you have to.
- 13:49Speaker 6: You know, they always say, you know you never stand
- 13:51Speaker 6: around the pile. I learned. I knew that young, but
- 13:53Speaker 6: I definitely at reinforcement when I played against Detroit with
- 13:56Speaker 6: those guys there. But like you gotta you love those dudes.
- 14:00Speaker 6: He've been trying to like end my career like I
- 14:02Speaker 6: would respect like I respected how they played, because like, man.
- 14:06Speaker 8: It's always good to have those guys on your side,
- 14:08Speaker 8: Like when they're on your team, you love them. And
- 14:10Speaker 8: luckily we had some of those dudes with like we
- 14:12Speaker 8: had TJ City. We had all kind of players that
- 14:15Speaker 8: love to, uh to get nasty and weren't scared about it.
- 14:18Speaker 8: So it's you know, old school throwback NFL type stuff.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I just remember, I remember the stories for those guys. Man,
- 14:24Speaker 2: they were they were definitely a next level of just, uh,
- 14:28Speaker 2: you know, let's see how far we can push these rules.
- 14:32Speaker 6: Oh yeah, through the whistle.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Probably probably probably a little bit like y'all probably back
- 14:36Speaker 2: in Ohio State the three meat Heads playing back Flinter.
- 14:40Speaker 5: We played against his younger brother, Donovan. I was trusting
- 14:44Speaker 5: for two years and he's like the same version of Dom,
- 14:47Speaker 5: Like they're like the same dude, and so yeah, it
- 14:49Speaker 5: was brutal. And then like I was in Detroit with
- 14:51Speaker 5: those two guys out there, and I'll tell you this,
- 14:53Speaker 5: those are the guys that you much rather be on
- 14:55Speaker 5: their team than not. Because I watched them, I just
- 14:58Speaker 5: cut agent at.
- 14:59Speaker 6: End of every play, I'm like Jesus, there's times your
- 15:02Speaker 6: what's gonna stick in?
- 15:03Speaker 5: The ground and you're not gonna be coming up for air.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Hey, all right, before we let y'all go, like, I
- 15:09Speaker 3: could ask you about, you know, prediction for Ohio State
- 15:11Speaker 3: in Texas, but I would assume both the y'all favor
- 15:13Speaker 3: the buck.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Guys.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna flip it on you a little bit since
- 15:16Speaker 3: we're on here in Louisiana, Bob, you can go first
- 15:19Speaker 3: your prediction on Clemson and LSU in Memorial Stadium. We're
- 15:25Speaker 3: not calling a death Valley and Memorial Stadium there coming
- 15:27Speaker 3: up on Saturday night.
- 15:29Speaker 4: How do you think it plays out?
- 15:31Speaker 5: Gosh, this is gonna be a big one. It's gonna
- 15:33Speaker 5: be a really good one. And has you know about
- 15:34Speaker 5: you know, talking about my brother coaching and playing for
- 15:37Speaker 5: DK Cincinnati and Notre Dame. He's a heck of a coach.
- 15:42Speaker 5: They need this win. He needs an opening day win
- 15:45Speaker 5: against a good team. I think they get it done.
- 15:48Speaker 5: I mean, it's gonna be a hostile environment, but when
- 15:50Speaker 5: you have a veteran quarterback that makes it a little better.
- 15:53Speaker 5: I think this might be a little more of a
- 15:54Speaker 5: high scoring affair. Actually different than the highest State Texas game.
- 15:58Speaker 5: I would probably to take LSU let's say like thirty
- 16:02Speaker 5: one twenty four in this one.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah we like that. We got buttons, Yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 3: we got buttons and everything up here?
- 16:07Speaker 4: All right, aj what you got.
- 16:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll be here like this is Brian Kelly needs
- 16:13Speaker 6: this one. Either team, whatever happens, like, you're gonna be okay.
- 16:17Speaker 6: Hopefully you don't want to trust one early and Brian
- 16:20Speaker 6: Kelly needs a big, big win early.
- 16:22Speaker 5: I think that's my say.
- 16:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll take ls. Y'all take LSU. I don't know
- 16:26Speaker 6: if you ask for a score perditioner, Now give me
- 16:28Speaker 6: l SU twenty eight twenty one? Yeah what you there?
- 16:32Speaker 5: We go? There, we go.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Hey, hey, fellas man, this is a lot of fun.
- 16:38Speaker 3: We've been talking about trying to get this done for
- 16:40Speaker 3: a long time, so we appreciate it. Hey, y'all enjoyed
- 16:42Speaker 3: the scenes there Ohio Stadium in Columbia or Columbus, Ohio. Man,
- 16:47Speaker 3: it's gonna be incredible scenes. We're gonna be paying attention
- 16:50Speaker 3: to it, so we appreciate you hopping on with us.
- 16:52Speaker 5: Thanks, it's a ways, big dog.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Oh come on, great camera angles not great double check.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Boys? All right?
- 17:06Speaker 5: That was.
- 17:08Speaker 4: A j Hawk and Bobby carpenter. It's the camera.
- 17:12Speaker 2: That's the camera. It's the lighting too, Hm, can we
- 17:15Speaker 2: get some like yellow lights? Some warm lighting?
- 17:18Speaker 3: At leak? It's Bow's fault. I think he set us
- 17:20Speaker 3: up for.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Failure here out look at this.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I'll work out once a week and every day in
- 17:26Speaker 3: the studio.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Oh, we do a lot of push ups.
- 17:27Speaker 5: I do.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I can't do it. I guess I could do it here. Yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 2: but we get at least one hundred and fifty push
- 17:32Speaker 2: ups in every day, every morning.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I wonder if Bob's watching and said hit the weights though,
- 17:38Speaker 3: how does that make you feel?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Hey, there's the way. Why does he would he be watching?
- 17:42Speaker 3: He's got metaglasses.
- 17:43Speaker 2: That's a good point, watching with one eye, then the
- 17:46Speaker 2: other eyes watching where he's going? Smart?
- 17:49Speaker 3: Smart all right?
- 17:52Speaker 5: Man?
- 17:52Speaker 3: We, like I said, we we've been trying to get
- 17:54Speaker 3: that done life. We're gonna have that. Hopefully we'll figure
- 17:57Speaker 3: it out and AJ's not gonna be We were ready
- 18:00Speaker 3: to kind of test it today, but AJ on the
- 18:02Speaker 3: road there. But hopefully we can have the.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I I don't know if I explained AJ that we're
- 18:08Speaker 2: doing this every week, but I'll have to explain that
- 18:11Speaker 2: to him later.
- 18:11Speaker 4: I mean, if he's driving, what's it matter?
- 18:15Speaker 2: That's true?
- 18:16Speaker 3: I mean you you know you're gonna be listening to
- 18:19Speaker 3: some funk music like Flint on a Friday's.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Right, What do you want to come join the quad?
- 18:24Speaker 2: Sure you're not like busy on Friday. You don't have
- 18:26Speaker 2: like a huge national show to do or anything. Give
- 18:29Speaker 2: a shot, I mean, give him a Make sure to
- 18:31Speaker 2: watch him watching a day on the Pet Magavan Show
- 18:33Speaker 2: and every day on the Pet Making Show.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Hey, you know what, I've got one of those national
- 18:37Speaker 3: shows that two ookl like every day as well. Nom
- 18:38Speaker 3: I here every morning, dang humble bragg am I here
- 18:41Speaker 3: every morning?
- 18:43Speaker 2: You are?
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so fifty eight every single day, AJ can
- 18:46Speaker 3: do the same thing.
- 18:49Speaker 2: You're right, You're right, absolutely all right? Yeah, for sure,
- 18:52Speaker 2: thank you. It's kind of one of your jobs. That's
- 18:54Speaker 2: not his think you get. Yeah, you got to do
- 18:58Speaker 2: your boys favors.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I think. I gotta tell you Foxhil you're in the Fox.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I gotta tell you they're just they're lucky to get
- 19:03Speaker 2: the invite for sure, because that was fun out a blast.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it was fun. Bobby's going to be a total
- 19:09Speaker 3: liability this weekend in Columbus.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Did anybody have on their bingo card that on Baton
- 19:14Speaker 2: Rus Louisiana Local Sports Radio that we'd have a weekly
- 19:19Speaker 2: segment with just two meathead Ohio state linebackers.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Nope, nope, We keep you guessing, very random, keep you
- 19:24Speaker 4: on your toes.
- 19:26Speaker 3: And look, they both cover college football nationally totally, so
- 19:29Speaker 3: I mean they can talk LSU, they can talk about whoever.
- 19:32Speaker 3: And they got great stories like Bob playing hul Colgan
- 19:35Speaker 3: trying to get the crowd ready to go raising the
- 19:37Speaker 3: roof like this. I guarantee you he was playing Sam
- 19:41Speaker 3: linebacker on the line in their room, no doubt, trying
- 19:44Speaker 3: to get the people what they want and get them
- 19:46Speaker 3: out of their seat.
- 19:47Speaker 2: He said, those people's arms would fall off or as
- 19:49Speaker 2: much as they pumped pumped up the crowd.
- 19:53Speaker 3: All right, we are going to step away. We do
- 19:56Speaker 3: have a new Orleans Saints hey, coach Kellen Moore in
- 19:58Speaker 3: about ten minutes from now. Stay locked in here. It

- 21:39Speaker 4: I'm trying to catch you up right now in the
- 21:41Speaker 4: buy you for chat. A lot going on, a lot
- 21:42Speaker 4: of action, a lot of excited.
- 21:44Speaker 2: About the game. We're not really talking about the game
- 21:48Speaker 2: in the chat, but people are excited. That's why they're chatting.
- 21:52Speaker 2: There's a lot of energy. Hey, we walked in here
- 21:54Speaker 2: at Rouses, right, We're right here at Rowse's and right
- 21:59Speaker 2: off Burb. And I got here, like I said, about
- 22:01Speaker 2: six thirty, and this place was staffed up. Staff was
- 22:05Speaker 2: here getting all the the deli, the cafe ready, getting
- 22:09Speaker 2: the food. I was like, man, I thought I was
- 22:10Speaker 2: gonna be one of the first people here at the
- 22:12Speaker 2: grocery store. Now, they were completely staffed up, getting ready
- 22:15Speaker 2: for the weekend, getting ready for a slew of people
- 22:19Speaker 2: coming in and stocking up on groceries for the weekend,
- 22:22Speaker 2: for their home parties, their tailgating, whatever it is. So
- 22:28Speaker 2: if y'all need something this weekend, come up, come by,
- 22:30Speaker 2: rouns and stop by, Come say hi to us, come
- 22:32Speaker 2: wave at us. So how to us during the break
- 22:33Speaker 2: whatever it is, Get your groceries, get ready for the weekend.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It's a good one.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 22:40Speaker 4: I am. I am fired up to be here.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Like football Fridays, we can say that we're gonna have
- 22:45Speaker 3: a great line up here on one o four five
- 22:48Speaker 3: ESPN all day long, and yeah, come say what's up
- 22:50Speaker 3: to us. We've had a couple of people already stopped by.
- 22:52Speaker 4: I come hang out.
- 22:53Speaker 3: We had some people you know, sitting down eat their
- 22:55Speaker 3: breakfast while they listen to the show. So if you
- 22:57Speaker 3: want to come hang out, we'll be here all the
- 22:59Speaker 3: way to ten o'clock normal showtime. So coming out, come
- 23:05Speaker 3: see us, Come get your tailgating packages. Just because you're
- 23:09Speaker 3: not gonna be in Clemson, South Carolina, I mean you're.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Not gonna tell all right, you can go to any
- 23:13Speaker 2: parking lot. You can go to your driveway, go park.
- 23:16Speaker 2: We talked about parking yesterday. You talked about park Go
- 23:20Speaker 2: to your driveway outside, hit the old tailgate down, whatever
- 23:23Speaker 2: it is, or just go inside in the ac and
- 23:26Speaker 2: do it.
- 23:27Speaker 3: On beautiful weather yesterday.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Scoons your fall. Some would say.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Games your fall. So tell me about your game day schedule.
- 23:33Speaker 2: So you travel with the team today, So do you
- 23:37Speaker 2: have any shows tomorrow, like leading up to the game, like,
- 23:43Speaker 2: how's how's your schedule lay out tomorrow? What are you
- 23:45Speaker 2: gonna do? What kind of festivities you get into?
- 23:47Speaker 4: You know, that's a great question.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Typically, so I have to take off my afternoon show
- 23:51Speaker 3: because I'll be in the air. I don't do my
- 23:54Speaker 3: serious XM show today. But now we get there and
- 23:58Speaker 3: I'm actually scheduled to have dinner tonight with one Jimbo Fisher.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Yeah, he's gonna be jealous.
- 24:06Speaker 3: He's going to be there doing his acc show and
- 24:08Speaker 3: so going to link up with Jimbo.
- 24:10Speaker 4: So excited about that, And you know, typically like on Saturday.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Wait, we'll go back to that. How many if you are,
- 24:18Speaker 2: what percentage of the word count do you think you'll
- 24:20Speaker 2: get in during dinner?
- 24:22Speaker 5: Right?
- 24:22Speaker 2: Do you think Jimbo will get it?
- 24:23Speaker 4: I would say eighty six fourteen Jimbo, Jeni fourteen.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Generous And if that's it doesn't matter if that's just
- 24:31Speaker 2: y'all two or if there's eight people, it's still gonna
- 24:33Speaker 2: be eighty six Jimbo, yes, and then the fourteen will
- 24:36Speaker 2: just kind of get split up between.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Everybody else cause I think it's with the Eric McClaine
- 24:41Speaker 3: who played at Clemson. He's on the ACC Show with Jimbo.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Good friend of mine as well. He comes on my
- 24:46Speaker 3: show every single Monday. So yeah, you're right eighty six
- 24:48Speaker 3: percent Jimbo. However, many people are there outside of Jimbo
- 24:52Speaker 3: fourteen percent. So I am looking forward to catching up
- 24:54Speaker 3: with coaching. He's with me every Tuesday on off campus.
- 24:58Speaker 3: He's a co host with us, and so you know,
- 24:59Speaker 3: we started that this week and catch that every single week.
- 25:02Speaker 3: But then on Saturdays, like typically we're in an SEC
- 25:07Speaker 3: city that I know the lay of the lamp, sure, right.
- 25:09Speaker 4: I kind of know where to go.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I kind of know where, uh you know you can
- 25:13Speaker 3: go sit down and have lunch and watch some games
- 25:16Speaker 3: and you know, do whatever. A lot of times, like
- 25:19Speaker 3: we know people across the SEC too. So like if
- 25:21Speaker 3: we go to Tennessee, like my guy Thrill is going
- 25:23Speaker 3: to like set us up and we're going to go
- 25:25Speaker 3: like to like the coach's locker room and we're going
- 25:27Speaker 3: to watch football.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Don't have that at Clemson. Never been.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Don't know where anything is, don't know what's cool what's
- 25:34Speaker 3: not cool, don't know what's good what's not good.
- 25:36Speaker 4: So I have no idea what Saturday is going to
- 25:39Speaker 4: look like.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Typically on the road, Gordy and I wake up and
- 25:43Speaker 3: we go down and watch Premier League soccer around six thirty.
- 25:47Speaker 3: That's fun, am competing on where we're at. So probably
- 25:50Speaker 3: get that done and then you know, I don't know, man,
- 25:54Speaker 3: I have no idea, no plan.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Where the wind blows, I'm gonna try to figure it out.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Oh are you going to try to be a man
- 25:58Speaker 2: of the people and walk around Oh yeah, tailgating scening.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I mean, I'm assuming you can only have eight to
- 26:03Speaker 2: nine pops because you're doing your job during that once. Yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 2: keep it light. Yeah, no's And that's tough to do.
- 26:10Speaker 2: You got to you got a job to do. It's
- 26:11Speaker 2: a very important job during the game. You do it
- 26:13Speaker 2: a great job with it. But I'm sure it does
- 26:16Speaker 2: take some mental fortitude to go into situations like that
- 26:21Speaker 2: and not be able to enjoy a libation or two
- 26:25Speaker 2: just as a socially socially just kind of get into
- 26:27Speaker 2: the flow.
- 26:29Speaker 3: I had a couple of people that listen to off
- 26:31Speaker 3: campus every day that are Clemson fans that I did
- 26:34Speaker 3: get invited to three or four tailgates. Yep, I don't
- 26:37Speaker 3: know if that's a trap. I don't know if that's
- 26:39Speaker 3: a setup. They're gonna hold you, hold you, yeah, President
- 26:42Speaker 3: for a.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Little bit, are just tar and feather me, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 4: just as soon as I get there.
- 26:47Speaker 3: I don't know. It seemed like good people, but I
- 26:52Speaker 3: don't know. Now we're finding out there's snitches.
- 26:54Speaker 2: They are snitches, so they indeed need to get stitches tomorrow.
- 27:00Speaker 2: They might start with Dabo running down that hill probably
- 27:03Speaker 2: the last night he's going to sleep without crutches.
- 27:05Speaker 5: For a while.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Hey, what's gonna be the better turnover chain? If Jerry
- 27:09Speaker 3: Jones passes away and a Launder gets it the next day, boy,
- 27:12Speaker 3: and we celebrate that, Or if Dabo falls down the
- 27:16Speaker 3: hill and tears his acl and Flynn gets the turnover
- 27:19Speaker 3: chain and that's what we're celebrating.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I'd feel much better celebrating that, for sure. I wouldn't
- 27:23Speaker 2: feel great about either one.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Yeah, But if you're passing out this chain because of this.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Bold prediction, yep, that's gonna happen. The Dabo thing, I
- 27:33Speaker 2: don't know. People are talking, people are talking, so he
- 27:37Speaker 2: better be getting treatment today, getting some hippo Matt, that
- 27:45Speaker 2: big dummy. Oh man, what about you?
- 27:48Speaker 3: How are you taking I know you are getting a
- 27:50Speaker 3: little quick getaway, but like, are you gonna be able
- 27:53Speaker 3: to really hone in and watch the full slate of
- 27:56Speaker 3: games or is it like you got to do family
- 27:58Speaker 3: stuff and then once the yellish game comes, then that's
- 28:01Speaker 3: when you kind of separate yourself.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a combination of both. We're
- 28:04Speaker 2: going to do a little weekend as labor weight, so
- 28:06Speaker 2: the kids have offer off school on Monday, so you know,
- 28:10Speaker 2: you gotta you have to take advantage of the kids
- 28:12Speaker 2: are at this age where it's like they don'tt they
- 28:14Speaker 2: want to go stay at a hotel, they want to
- 28:16Speaker 2: go do something, right, you take them. You try to
- 28:18Speaker 2: You try to give your kids experiences. So just so
- 28:21Speaker 2: happens that it falls on too week one, it's fine,
- 28:23Speaker 2: It's fine, totally fine. So we're gonna go, and it's
- 28:28Speaker 2: gonna be tricky juggling the situation, certainly because I don't
- 28:32Speaker 2: want to be I don't want to be in a
- 28:35Speaker 2: place a large, largely crowded area to watch the LSU game. Certainly,
- 28:39Speaker 2: if that happens, I'll just go watch it in my room,
- 28:40Speaker 2: I guess but the rest of the day is gonna
- 28:43Speaker 2: be true because of course I want to be locked
- 28:44Speaker 2: in a game day at eight. I want to be
- 28:46Speaker 2: locked into the Ohio State game. I don't need to
- 28:49Speaker 2: be as locked in as I can just watch that.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I don't necessarily have to hear that one. I can
- 28:53Speaker 2: just watch it. But yeah, I can know. I got
- 28:55Speaker 2: to hear every second, every single word of the L
- 28:57Speaker 2: s U game, certainly, So it's gonna be tricky. It's
- 28:59Speaker 2: gonna be a a little bit of a juggling act to,
- 29:02Speaker 2: you know, be Father of the Year and also watch
- 29:05Speaker 2: every single second of every single game.
- 29:08Speaker 3: It's gonna be It's gonna be impressive, is what it's
- 29:10Speaker 3: gonna be. I'm gonna be very excited to hear the
- 29:12Speaker 3: tales of hell that win. I did just get some
- 29:15Speaker 3: very very clutch information. Okay, guess what they have in Clemson,
- 29:20Speaker 3: South Carolina crutches walk ons. Okay, I've got my spot,
- 29:28Speaker 3: got your spot.
- 29:28Speaker 2: All right.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I know the food, I know the menu, I know
- 29:32Speaker 3: the vibe. That's where I'm going. I'm gonna go hang
- 29:34Speaker 3: out there post up and watch all these games.
- 29:37Speaker 2: There you go.
- 29:40Speaker 3: I don't have I don't have anybody around me, so
- 29:43Speaker 3: I can act foolish. I can yell at the TV now,
- 29:46Speaker 3: not during the LSU game, like I literally can't do
- 29:48Speaker 3: it during that. With the other games, I can.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yell at it. You can laugh at people. I can
- 29:53Speaker 2: mm hm. So that's good. It's gonna be good. So
- 29:56Speaker 2: I hope I hope everybody listen out there. I hope
- 29:57Speaker 2: you'll have a great date planned. Hope it's a blast.
- 30:00Speaker 2: If you're not in Cleinson, South Carolina, I hope you
- 30:03Speaker 2: got a party. I hope you get to take in
- 30:05Speaker 2: the game however you want to. So whatever you're gonna do,
- 30:09Speaker 2: make sure you stop a boy rouses and stock up
- 30:11Speaker 2: on the groceries, stock up on the dos sekis all.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Right, So we will step away now, and when we
- 30:18Speaker 3: come back, you'll hear from the head coach of your
- 30:22Speaker 3: New Orleans Saints, Keller Moore, and we'll do it right here.

- 31:51Speaker 1: You're listening to off the bench.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Coach of your New Orleans Saints Kellen Moore Jones the show, coach,
- 32:06Speaker 3: We appreciate your time, thanks for hopping on with us,
- 32:09Speaker 3: Thanks for having me all right, coach. So I caught
- 32:11Speaker 3: up with you during training camp there on NFL Radio
- 32:15Speaker 3: and obviously a lot of different things going on during camp.
- 32:18Speaker 3: But now that camp is over, you're getting ready for
- 32:20Speaker 3: that first regular season game. How is like the entire
- 32:23Speaker 3: transition of becoming the Saints head coach, going through a
- 32:26Speaker 3: training camp now getting ready for week one been for
- 32:28Speaker 3: you and your family?
- 32:30Speaker 7: Yeah, it's been great.
- 32:32Speaker 10: You know, it's a long journey through the whole off
- 32:34Speaker 10: season process. Going through training camp. We I thought we
- 32:36Speaker 10: did an awesome job. We had a couple weeks here
- 32:38Speaker 10: in Metai, which was really fun to be down here
- 32:40Speaker 10: in Louisiana, be with the fans all the interaction that
- 32:44Speaker 10: came with that.
- 32:44Speaker 7: And then we had a little California trip which was
- 32:46Speaker 7: really good.
- 32:46Speaker 10: As you guys know, there's a point in training camp
- 32:49Speaker 10: that's about bonding and connecting as a team. I felt
- 32:51Speaker 10: like our guys were able to do that out there,
- 32:53Speaker 10: which is a ton of fun. And so you know,
- 32:55Speaker 10: through these preseason games, we've had to make some tough
- 32:57Speaker 10: decisions get this roster set.
- 32:59Speaker 7: I feel like we're in a great play for a
- 33:00Speaker 7: great role.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Yeah, coach, I know, it's a it's a huge transition
- 33:04Speaker 2: for you, h stepping into a head coaching rolla And
- 33:07Speaker 2: I know, and I wanted U wanted the opportunity for
- 33:09Speaker 2: you to just kind of introduce yourself to Louisiana outside
- 33:12Speaker 2: of the New Orleans because I know since you've you've
- 33:15Speaker 2: gotten to Louisiana, it's kind of as soon as the
- 33:17Speaker 2: boots on the ground, you were rolling, you got a
- 33:19Speaker 2: lot of things to do, and we really kind of
- 33:21Speaker 2: wanted to see, like, how's the transition been for you
- 33:24Speaker 2: your family? It can be kind of a culture shock
- 33:26Speaker 2: getting down here in South Louisiana, But how has how
- 33:28Speaker 2: do you feel like you've been received and just the
- 33:30Speaker 2: culture in general, and how has that moved to New
- 33:33Speaker 2: Orleans been for you?
- 33:35Speaker 7: Yeah, it's been great.
- 33:36Speaker 10: You know our journey we spent eight years in Dallas,
- 33:38Speaker 10: had a ton of fun there between playing and coaching,
- 33:41Speaker 10: and we're fortunate to be there for a while, which
- 33:43Speaker 10: you know in the NFL is sometimes a little bit unique,
- 33:45Speaker 10: just going from the plane the coaching aspect, and then uh,
- 33:48Speaker 10: we did the Chargers for one year and then we
- 33:50Speaker 10: did Philadelphia and so our kids have you know, moved
- 33:52Speaker 10: a little bit the last couple of years, uh, and
- 33:54Speaker 10: they were so excited to come down here. I think
- 33:56Speaker 10: one of the cool and unique experiences for for us
- 33:58Speaker 10: for so many was, you know, the super Bowl's down here,
- 34:01Speaker 10: and so our first really experience of New Orleans and
- 34:05Speaker 10: Louisiana was the Super Bowl and so you know, the
- 34:07Speaker 10: show that they put on was awesome. It was such
- 34:09Speaker 10: a fun week, and obviously we were able to win
- 34:11Speaker 10: the game, which was you know, the cherry on top,
- 34:12Speaker 10: and so you know, really quickly after that, we got
- 34:16Speaker 10: our kids down here.
- 34:16Speaker 7: And they just had a ton of fun.
- 34:18Speaker 10: I think what's what I really enjoyed about this is
- 34:21Speaker 10: how connected this state, this community is.
- 34:24Speaker 7: You know, it's great people, it's great, great experience, and
- 34:27Speaker 7: it's much more of a small town, college connected vibe
- 34:31Speaker 7: than maybe some of the big metros that the NFL has.
- 34:33Speaker 7: So it's been awesome.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Coach. Before we move on to this year's roster and
- 34:38Speaker 3: getting ready for the season, I know you're going to
- 34:40Speaker 3: be getting ready tonight for the Cardinals obviously in Week
- 34:42Speaker 3: number one, but the Boise State Broncos got a game
- 34:45Speaker 3: coming up here in a couple of hours. I mean,
- 34:48Speaker 3: how are we taking in that game? Are we going
- 34:50Speaker 3: to have it like on a side TV? Maybe we
- 34:52Speaker 3: I hustle every once in a while between getting ready
- 34:54Speaker 3: for the Cardinals.
- 34:56Speaker 7: Oh yeah, oh yeah, definitely.
- 34:58Speaker 10: We turned into college football fans very quickly, still in
- 35:01Speaker 10: our house, and so we got Broncos.
- 35:03Speaker 7: You know, my wife went to b YU. We got
- 35:05Speaker 7: Garrett Nesmyer at LSU.
- 35:06Speaker 10: My brother coaches at Missouri, He's the offense coordinator there,
- 35:09Speaker 10: and so we got we got a lot of screens
- 35:11Speaker 10: on on Saturday, certainly throughout the.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Ball I think I think people kind of tend to
- 35:15Speaker 2: forget because now Saints fans here in Louisiana, we think
- 35:18Speaker 2: of you as coach Kellen Moore, but we forget the
- 35:21Speaker 2: recent past. Uh you know, hint finishing fourth in the
- 35:24Speaker 2: Heisman voting list in twenty ten. You were quite the
- 35:27Speaker 2: stud yourself, and I know I played with I played
- 35:30Speaker 2: with a couple of Boise State proud alumni. I played
- 35:33Speaker 2: with Darren College, Corey, Corey Hall. Some of my best
- 35:36Speaker 2: friends Corey Hall up there, and he used to wax
- 35:39Speaker 2: poetically about mister Kellen Moore. So I know we're excited,
- 35:43Speaker 2: but we're going to be cheering on Boise State as well.
- 35:46Speaker 7: Absolutely, No, I love it.
- 35:48Speaker 10: It's a it's a fun place I was meet you know,
- 35:49Speaker 10: it's unique atmosphere to be able to play there for
- 35:52Speaker 10: four years.
- 35:52Speaker 7: It's a really cool place. And yeah, I have great
- 35:55Speaker 7: memories there all right.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Coach, One of the things that I want to start
- 35:59Speaker 3: off asking you about is everywhere that you've been and
- 36:01Speaker 3: you listed it off in Dallas, in Philadelphia, in Los Angeles,
- 36:05Speaker 3: the quarterbacks that you've worked with, and Dak Prescott and
- 36:08Speaker 3: Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts, and they all had success,
- 36:10Speaker 3: but they're all different quarterbacks, Like all three of those
- 36:13Speaker 3: quarterbacks have a different skill set, but y'all were successful together.
- 36:16Speaker 3: So you've chosen Spencer Ratler to be your starting quarterback,
- 36:19Speaker 3: But I want to go kind of before that. When
- 36:21Speaker 3: you're creating your quarterback for your offense, is it a, hey,
- 36:24Speaker 3: we got a blank space here, I'm going to see
- 36:26Speaker 3: what the talent looks like around this quarterback will make
- 36:28Speaker 3: a decision off of that, or is there maybe like
- 36:30Speaker 3: a checklist that you kind of go over and you
- 36:33Speaker 3: try to implement your checklist with those quarterbacks.
- 36:37Speaker 10: Yeah, I think that's a really really good question. I
- 36:39Speaker 10: think there's the answer, which is in between. As far
- 36:41Speaker 10: as you know, certainly there's things that you have that
- 36:44Speaker 10: are your core values you believe in. As far as
- 36:46Speaker 10: the quarterback positions, the leadership position is a toughness position,
- 36:49Speaker 10: both mentally and physically. I think at the end of day,
- 36:52Speaker 10: you got to be able to make really good decisions
- 36:54Speaker 10: with the football and you got to be an accurate quarterback. Now,
- 36:57Speaker 10: you know, from there, there's a lot of different tools
- 36:59Speaker 10: and things that you can utilize to be really successful
- 37:01Speaker 10: in this league. And whether it's you know, arm talent, uh,
- 37:04Speaker 10: you know, whether it's you know, ability to play out
- 37:07Speaker 10: in space, whether the scramble drill is a big component
- 37:10Speaker 10: of yours, whether your ability to run the quarterback like
- 37:13Speaker 10: Jalen was able to last year. And so, you know,
- 37:16Speaker 10: we certainly have a foundation that we believe in as
- 37:18Speaker 10: an offense, but you got to have the flexibility to
- 37:21Speaker 10: be able to play different styles based off these quarterbacks.
- 37:23Speaker 10: And so we're really excited about Spencer. He's been a
- 37:26Speaker 10: really consistent player throughout this whole offseason. I think that's
- 37:29Speaker 10: the thing that showed up. You saw the highlights last year.
- 37:31Speaker 10: As far as you know, he makes some big time plays,
- 37:33Speaker 10: he makes some stuff, and the consistency as a rook
- 37:36Speaker 10: he just you know, he's growing in that aspect. And
- 37:38Speaker 10: so this offseason we've seen the consistency show up each
- 37:41Speaker 10: and every day. And he's he's an aggressive, confident football player,
- 37:44Speaker 10: and that's you don't want to ever lose that.
- 37:46Speaker 7: But I think as he's grown, his decision making has increased.
- 37:49Speaker 10: This offseason, he's made really good decisions football, and so
- 37:52Speaker 10: he's put the offense in a really, really, really good position.
- 37:55Speaker 10: And so it's fun to build these systems around these quarters.
- 37:57Speaker 10: Think that's the ultimate thing. I really don't care we
- 38:00Speaker 10: throw fifty times, run at fifty times, whatever we need
- 38:03Speaker 10: to do to win, we'll utilize something between those.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Coach when when you look back at your playing days
- 38:10Speaker 2: and your coaching and your coaching stint from quarterback coach,
- 38:13Speaker 2: offensive coordinator with a couple of different head coaches, like
- 38:17Speaker 2: when you are when you were designing what kind of
- 38:20Speaker 2: offenses Kellen Moore want to install, what is my what
- 38:23Speaker 2: is my base core offense? At which one of your
- 38:27Speaker 2: offensive coach offensive coaches that you worked under had the
- 38:31Speaker 2: biggest influence on kind of who you are today as
- 38:34Speaker 2: an offensive coach.
- 38:35Speaker 10: Yeah, that's a that's a really good question. I think,
- 38:37Speaker 10: you know, philosophically, I think it really goes back to
- 38:40Speaker 10: Boise State. Just our approach and you know style in
- 38:43Speaker 10: which we played with. Uh, you know, we're really creative,
- 38:46Speaker 10: really innovative. We certainly were very multiple in what we did.
- 38:49Speaker 10: I think, you know, a lot of the mindset is
- 38:51Speaker 10: how to stress the defense in as many different ways
- 38:54Speaker 10: as possible while keeping it simple and confident.
- 38:56Speaker 7: For us, there's a lot of different ways of running
- 38:58Speaker 7: the same places.
- 38:59Speaker 10: That's all was our goal as we go through a
- 39:01Speaker 10: season and then as I've been able to go through
- 39:04Speaker 10: our journey, just like you know, a lot of us
- 39:05Speaker 10: have been be fortunate to be in the NFL, you
- 39:07Speaker 10: get to add pieces from all these awesome coaches.
- 39:09Speaker 7: That you either played under or coached with.
- 39:11Speaker 10: And so you know, in Detroit with Scott Lenihan, uh,
- 39:15Speaker 10: you know where then Joe Lombardi came in as the
- 39:17Speaker 10: offensive corner. You learn, you know, two different systems. They're awesome.
- 39:20Speaker 10: Scott's backled be here and so that's been I've been
- 39:22Speaker 10: very fortunate for that. In Dallas you get Jason Garrett,
- 39:25Speaker 10: which kind of from the North Turner kind of the
- 39:27Speaker 10: digit system and more of a vertical passing game. And
- 39:30Speaker 10: then it was a cool transition because then to team
- 39:32Speaker 10: up with Mike McCarthy and he comes from a West
- 39:34Speaker 10: coast approach, and you're able to kind of implement some
- 39:36Speaker 10: of those pieces. And certainly when we went to Philadelphia,
- 39:38Speaker 10: that was probably a little bit of a style or
- 39:41Speaker 10: a system that I hadn't been as exposed to as much,
- 39:44Speaker 10: just with all the QB run game and kind of
- 39:46Speaker 10: the r P O RPR type world. And so it's
- 39:49Speaker 10: really fun just kind of, you know, grab all those
- 39:51Speaker 10: different pieces and keep it as clean as you can
- 39:53Speaker 10: for the players. Can't you know, be a master of everything,
- 39:55Speaker 10: But how can we utilize a few of these different
- 39:57Speaker 10: tools to stress the defense?
- 39:59Speaker 3: CA you have no idea? How yeah, how happy you're
- 40:03Speaker 3: about to make it.
- 40:04Speaker 7: We can keep going, you can go back to playbooks
- 40:06Speaker 7: from there's no doubt.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Hey, you know what you're about to You're about to
- 40:08Speaker 3: do this for me, okay, And I hope you have
- 40:10Speaker 3: an answer. I hope you answered this question because Flynn
- 40:12Speaker 3: and I have been going back and forth for a decade.
- 40:15Speaker 3: I played for North Turner most of my career in
- 40:17Speaker 3: the number system. I loved it. It told everybody what
- 40:20Speaker 3: to do. You could go really fast, and I used
- 40:22Speaker 3: to love Even with Philip Rivers, uh, you know, country accident,
- 40:25Speaker 3: we still understood exactly what was going on there.
- 40:28Speaker 2: All right.
- 40:28Speaker 3: So Flynn, like for Mike McCarthy most of his career,
- 40:31Speaker 3: he is a concept guy. He's not a numbers guy.
- 40:33Speaker 3: You know both, which one do you like?
- 40:36Speaker 2: Oh my god?
- 40:38Speaker 10: Okay, So so here here's my honest explanation. I love
- 40:42Speaker 10: calling plays in more of a West Coast approach, but
- 40:46Speaker 10: I love talking football in the digital system. Okay, all right,
- 40:52Speaker 10: on the field, like long play calls, I was just like, hey,
- 40:56Speaker 10: this word means the X, Y and Z. Let's let's
- 40:59Speaker 10: just all understand that. We're all good to go. We
- 41:01Speaker 10: can be big picture viewers. But it's so funny even
- 41:04Speaker 10: today because a lot of the coaches I've I've worked with,
- 41:07Speaker 10: the different places. Still you're sitting in the meeting room,
- 41:10Speaker 10: you're watching film and you're talking. You know, let's run
- 41:13Speaker 10: a seven route over there, and let's run a.
- 41:14Speaker 7: Four over there.
- 41:15Speaker 10: You're still using them to kind of describe maybe routes
- 41:18Speaker 10: and different specific things, and so it's kind of funny.
- 41:21Speaker 10: It's it's hanging on by a thread and our leadership
- 41:23Speaker 10: for not much of the digitous system left, if any,
- 41:26Speaker 10: but you know, some of us are old enough to
- 41:29Speaker 10: have gone through it.
- 41:30Speaker 7: You know, I think it's still a way of talking.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a very nice way of saying because my position,
- 41:34Speaker 3: the fullback position, is already extinct. It's a nice way
- 41:37Speaker 3: to say I'm getting really old, Kellen, So I appreciate it.
- 41:41Speaker 7: Well, the fullback got tagged all the time, so you
- 41:43Speaker 7: didn't even have to loved it.
- 41:46Speaker 3: Hey f angle f m f cross.
- 41:48Speaker 7: Yet you really like that system. I see why.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Now, all right, guys, let's let's circle back to the
- 41:57Speaker 2: Saints and getting ready for Week one. So you start
- 42:01Speaker 2: the season, I want to know, going into the season,
- 42:05Speaker 2: what do you think for coach Kellen Moore, what is
- 42:08Speaker 2: going to be the grading metric that you're going to
- 42:12Speaker 2: use to what a successful season is going to be
- 42:14Speaker 2: for the Saints.
- 42:16Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, there's a lot of different ways of
- 42:18Speaker 10: doing that. I think we you know, when you focus
- 42:21Speaker 10: on the process and let the results take care of
- 42:23Speaker 10: their self. You really hammer in. You know, our place
- 42:26Speaker 10: hour we play in the right way that we want
- 42:28Speaker 10: to play is following our identity. You know, are we
- 42:31Speaker 10: cleaning all three phases? And really are we situational masters?
- 42:35Speaker 10: I think so much of this league comes down the
- 42:36Speaker 10: situational football.
- 42:37Speaker 7: Uh.
- 42:38Speaker 10: You know, there's so much ebbs and flows through a game,
- 42:40Speaker 10: and then there's just these critical moments and we spend
- 42:42Speaker 10: so much time invested on those and you know that's
- 42:44Speaker 10: ultimately the thing. Put yourself in a really good position
- 42:47Speaker 10: to be successful, win these games, and then when you
- 42:50Speaker 10: get those chances, we got to be able to convert.
- 42:52Speaker 10: And so you know, ultimately we want to go to
- 42:54Speaker 10: the playoffs. I'm going to win the super Bowl and
- 42:56Speaker 10: certainly you know that's our goal that that's always our goal.
- 42:59Speaker 10: You know, the NFC South as attainable for us. We're
- 43:01Speaker 10: really really excited to go go get after it. You know,
- 43:04Speaker 10: it's a long journey in the NFL season. We know
- 43:06Speaker 10: there's highs and lows throughout a season. I think that's
- 43:08Speaker 10: part of what you know, these guys have to understand
- 43:11Speaker 10: is you know that you're going to go through some
- 43:13Speaker 10: really high moments, and you're gonna go through a couple
- 43:14Speaker 10: of moments where you've got to gotta fight through, you know,
- 43:17Speaker 10: a couple of down games, and you just got to
- 43:18Speaker 10: keep fighting through it, keep navigating that all these great
- 43:20Speaker 10: teams this league do. Last year we're at Philly, you
- 43:23Speaker 10: start off too and two, uh, you know, only lost
- 43:25Speaker 10: one after that the rest of the year. Uh, you know,
- 43:27Speaker 10: and there's other years where hey, maybe you started really
- 43:29Speaker 10: fast and we kind of you know, didn't finish the
- 43:31Speaker 10: way we wanted. And so you understand how these NFL
- 43:34Speaker 10: seasons go, and you just got to keep keep moving forward.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Coach, I do want to ask you about the receiver
- 43:39Speaker 3: room right now, because I like the additions that you've
- 43:41Speaker 3: made there. You go out your aggressive, you make a
- 43:43Speaker 3: trade and you you know, have a waiver claim as
- 43:45Speaker 3: well for a player that we all know here from
- 43:48Speaker 3: his LSU days and Trey Palmer. So you've been aggressive
- 43:50Speaker 3: adding to the roster. One, what does that room kind
- 43:53Speaker 3: of look like to you now? And two? Like, what's
- 43:55Speaker 3: that process to make sure that the pieces that you've
- 43:57Speaker 3: added can kind of get up to speed and help
- 43:59Speaker 3: you as soon as possible.
- 44:01Speaker 10: It's been a really cool example of what player acquisition
- 44:05Speaker 10: looks like when you'd take it over the course of
- 44:06Speaker 10: the entire year. I mean, Mickey and his crew have
- 44:08Speaker 10: done an awesome job, but just continued to add different
- 44:10Speaker 10: tools into that group. And so certainly feel like we
- 44:13Speaker 10: got some really premier players. We've got Coo, we got Shee.
- 44:15Speaker 10: You know, to bring Cooks back and been awesome. You know,
- 44:18Speaker 10: his leadership and his experience and he can still run
- 44:20Speaker 10: and run past people and so he's got great value there.
- 44:24Speaker 10: But then to be able to make some moves that
- 44:25Speaker 10: provide us with a ton of depth. We know, the
- 44:27Speaker 10: NFL season is a long season. You know, you gotta
- 44:30Speaker 10: be able to navigate some things. You gotta play different
- 44:32Speaker 10: matchups and maybe a guy's down for a week or two.
- 44:34Speaker 10: And so to get Vele from Denver, which was awesome.
- 44:37Speaker 10: You know, his size, his high football IQ, his contestants
- 44:40Speaker 10: and catch showed up. Trey, you know, he's just been
- 44:43Speaker 10: like on the tip of the iceberg in Tampa, ready
- 44:45Speaker 10: to like take off. It just feels like, you know,
- 44:46Speaker 10: he's made a bunch of really good plays down there.
- 44:49Speaker 10: Obviously familiarity with the area, which has been awesome. And
- 44:51Speaker 10: then to still have Cedric Wilson, to still have Kevin
- 44:54Speaker 10: Austin on practice squad, and we're gonna.
- 44:55Speaker 7: Call up on these guys. They're gonna play, you know,
- 44:57Speaker 7: meaningful snatch for us this year.
- 45:01Speaker 9: Off the bench.
- 45:06Speaker 3: All right, Very excited to have that sound for you, Kellermore,
