- 0:00Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:01Speaker 2: Stu Gatz. Woo!
- 0:02Speaker 3: I got to be honest with you, Bruce, there's a
- 0:03Speaker 3: good chance I'd be high anyway.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Woo!
- 0:05Speaker 3: And I'm wondering how the football weekend was. Were you
- 0:07Speaker 3: able to watch it? Wow, what happened? Oh, I'm tired
- 0:12Speaker 3: of him. I'm serious. How about that? In company.
- 0:15Speaker 4: We are mother shuckers, baby.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:17Speaker 5: Bruce, does Faison Brandon's name sound like it's on backwards?
- 0:20Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 0:21Speaker 5: It's time to get your.
- 0:23Speaker 5: It's time to get your financials. To get the all boat.
- 0:27Speaker 3: You got nothing right there.
- 0:29Speaker 5: This is not going well.
- 0:31Speaker 2: This is Stu Gatz and company.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Stu, back to you. I miss this man. He makes
- 0:36Speaker 3: me smile every time I see him.
- 0:38Speaker 6: I haven't seen him since the American Century Championship out
- 0:42Speaker 6: in Lake Tahoe.
- 0:43Speaker 3: It's the Joe Theismann Show with Stu Gatz.
- 0:45Speaker 6: Joe, nice enough to join us here on the show.
- 0:48Speaker 3: We appreciate it, Joe. Joe, what the hell happened to
- 0:50Speaker 3: the Redskins?
- 0:51Speaker 4: So glad I have you on my show.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Somehow you always get here before I do. It's unbelievable.
- 1:00Speaker 6: Joe, what the hell happened to the Redskins, to the Redskins,
- 1:03Speaker 6: to the commanders last Sunday with Jaden Daniels against the
- 1:06Speaker 6: Giants there?
- 1:08Speaker 1: I think, I think it's, you know, obviously there was
- 1:10Speaker 1: a lack of communication is what people say, but nobody
- 1:14Speaker 1: really knows. I mean, there's three people that actually know
- 1:16Speaker 1: what happened. Dan, Of course, Dave Blau, our offensive coordinator,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and Jayden, they're the three people that would know what
- 1:23Speaker 1: went on in that particular 12-second period of time.
- 1:27Speaker 4: I've always believed this, that, you.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Know, the clock, the communication from the coach to the
- 1:33Speaker 1: quarterback gets shut off with 15 seconds to go.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:36Speaker 1: You know, we got the ball with 55 seconds, then
- 1:38Speaker 1: it was 42 seconds, and then now all of a sudden,
- 1:41Speaker 1: you know, there's sort of this disarray where everything is.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I think when you're on the field, you're in charge.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And when they turn the headsets off and coaches can't
- 1:50Speaker 1: communicate with you, it's your show.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And so something happened in that period of time. But
- 1:56Speaker 1: we've all made mistakes. We've all made things during the
- 2:00Speaker 1: course of a game that people look at and scratch
- 2:02Speaker 1: their head with. And this is a great opportunity for
- 2:05Speaker 1: the commanders as a whole, coaching staff, players, everybody, to
- 2:09Speaker 1: bounce back against a really, really good football team.
- 2:13Speaker 7: Joe, no matter what happened in the headsets, That's got
- 2:16Speaker 7: to be on Jaden to understand the situation and to
- 2:18Speaker 7: clock the ball, right?
- 2:19Speaker 4: I don't disagree with that.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I don't agree.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I think, like I said, is, you know, obviously, I
- 2:24Speaker 1: never had communicators in my helmets, thank God. Because coaches
- 2:28Speaker 1: just feed you with information. Just let me go play football.
- 2:31Speaker 1: We spend all week putting together a game plan, and now,
- 2:34Speaker 1: you know, I shouldn't need a reminder that, okay, clock
- 2:38Speaker 1: the ball. All right, keep it on the clock. All right,
- 2:40Speaker 1: keep the guys in bounds. All right, make sure they
- 2:42Speaker 1: get out of bounds.
- 2:43Speaker 4: All those little reminders.
- 2:44Speaker 1: There's this myriad of list of things from a quarterback
- 2:47Speaker 1: position that you sort of have to run through in
- 2:50Speaker 1: certain situations. What do you do when you're coming out
- 2:53Speaker 1: of your own goal line? What do you do when
- 2:56Speaker 1: you're going in? What's happening in the red zone? What's
- 2:58Speaker 1: happening in goal line and short yardage? Are we going to,
- 3:01Speaker 1: are we going to go for it on fourth down,
- 3:02Speaker 1: which we never really went for it a lot today.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Everybody goes for it on fourth down.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yes.
- 3:06Speaker 4: They ought to add a fifth down just to see
- 3:07Speaker 4: people pun every now and then.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I mean, you had an MVP as a kicker. Why
- 3:12Speaker 3: would you go for it? You know, we did.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I mean, you know, Mo and I went back to
- 3:15Speaker 4: back 82 and 83.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It was, we were, and, and so to me, I
- 3:20Speaker 1: do believe that the game belongs to the guys on
- 3:23Speaker 1: the field. You know, coaches can do things and they
- 3:25Speaker 1: can remind you and suggest things, but it's really important
- 3:28Speaker 1: that you understand the scope of everything that's going on.
- 3:31Speaker 4: And, you know, in Jaden's case, it, it didn't work
- 3:34Speaker 4: out that way. He's a heck of a football player.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I think he's going to be a terrific quarterback for us,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know, but I've always said this and you've heard
- 3:41Speaker 1: me say many times, the quarterback position is the single
- 3:44Speaker 1: most dependent position on the field.
- 3:46Speaker 4: You rely on everybody to do their job so that
- 3:48Speaker 4: you can do yours, you know, the way you need
- 3:51Speaker 4: to do it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: But there's the mental part of it that really nobody
- 3:55Speaker 1: delves into too much. It's that, It's the preparation for
- 3:59Speaker 1: what the what ifs. Here's the what if scenarios. And
- 4:02Speaker 1: there's like I said, there's a list of those. And,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know, and sometimes, you know, it just goes.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Haywire for you. So I don't know what the answer is,
- 4:11Speaker 4: what the what was going on. All I know is
- 4:13Speaker 4: we had a game. We had an opportunity because you
- 4:16Speaker 4: don't know if you're going to make the kick or not.
- 4:17Speaker 4: But we had an opportunity to be able to win
- 4:19Speaker 4: a football game, two and three in this division. would
- 4:22Speaker 4: look a lot better than 1-3-1.
- 4:23Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 4:25Speaker 6: It was weird because you had one team who was
- 4:27Speaker 6: running off like they had won the game and another
- 4:28Speaker 6: team that was acting like they had lost the game,
- 4:30Speaker 6: but they had tied the game, Joe.
- 4:31Speaker 4: You know? Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Well, maybe if the Giants got a tie, they'd feel good.
- 4:39Speaker 5: Joe, the last six quarters of Drake May playing football
- 4:43Speaker 5: looks a lot like the Drake May that we saw
- 4:45Speaker 5: last year during the regular season. How important is that
- 4:48Speaker 5: level of confidence for a quarterback that allows you to
- 4:51Speaker 5: just play more freely, I guess?
- 4:54Speaker 1: I think it's really important. I think his knowledge of
- 4:56Speaker 1: the system continues to go. Josh McDaniels does a tremendous job.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Nobody talks about him as a coordinator. Obviously, as a
- 5:03Speaker 1: head coach, it didn't work out. But from a coordination standpoint...
- 5:06Speaker 1: He knows exactly what he wants to do, and he
- 5:08Speaker 1: has the guy that he wants to execute those plays.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I thought Drake in the early part of the season
- 5:14Speaker 1: played scared. I thought he played tentative, not scared, but tentative.
- 5:17Speaker 1: He didn't cut the ball loose. He wasn't the kid
- 5:20Speaker 1: we saw a year ago. And I sort of blame
- 5:23Speaker 1: the league for this because there's no preparation for quarterbacks.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You don't play any preseason games. So the first couple
- 5:30Speaker 1: games of the regular season are really preseason games. to
- 5:34Speaker 1: get you acclimated, to get your teammates acclimated, to sort
- 5:37Speaker 1: of get a feel for football again. But I think
- 5:40Speaker 1: he certainly has found his way one more time. You know,
- 5:42Speaker 1: this is the Drake May we expected to see. You
- 5:45Speaker 1: don't necessarily see it out of the gate.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Look at Justin Herbert. You know, there's a question. What's
- 5:51Speaker 4: going on out with the Chargers?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 4: I think it's a coordinator change. I think it's a
- 5:57Speaker 4: new system. If there's an ounce of uncertainty... When.
- 6:01Speaker 1: You take a snap, if you're just that little ounce
- 6:04Speaker 1: of uncertainty, it makes.
- 6:06Speaker 4: A world of difference.
- 6:08Speaker 6: Joe, you mentioned earlier when we were discussing Jaden that
- 6:11Speaker 6: every quarterback, every athlete has made mistakes. I'm wondering, is
- 6:14Speaker 6: there a mistake that you made that you still think
- 6:16Speaker 6: about every single day?
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yeah, Super Bowl XVIII.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 6:21Speaker 4: The interception that Jack Squire, I made Jack Squire famous.
- 6:24Speaker 4: I put him on the cover.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Yes, you did.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:28Speaker 4: And you know, it's really funny. He's on the cover
- 6:30Speaker 4: of sports illustrated. So am I way down in the
- 6:32Speaker 4: corner going, Oh my God.
- 6:36Speaker 3: That's unfortunate, Joe.
- 6:38Speaker 4: No, it was, it was super bowl 18.
- 6:41Speaker 1: We had, we'd run what was called rocket screen against
- 6:44Speaker 1: the Raiders earlier that year. And Joe Washington went for
- 6:46Speaker 1: 90 yards. Wow.
- 6:47Speaker 4: And we won that game 33-31, something like that. Right.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And I know there's 12 seconds left in the half.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Got two timeouts and went on the 12-yard line. Now,
- 6:58Speaker 1: Joe always and I debate about this.
- 7:01Speaker 4: So anyway, I walked to the sidelines and I said,
- 7:04Speaker 4: what do you want to run? He said, I want
- 7:06Speaker 4: to run rocket screen.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I said, I just don't feel comfortable putting the ball
- 7:09Speaker 1: in the air backed up this far.
- 7:11Speaker 4: He said, we got two timeouts. We can use them.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It worked against them last time. And the first thing
- 7:17Speaker 1: that went through my mind was, you don't think they
- 7:19Speaker 1: know that? So I'm walking away from the sidelines. He
- 7:24Speaker 1: points his finger at me and he goes, run it. Okay,
- 7:28Speaker 1: Coach Gibbs, you got it. We didn't have debates or conversations.
- 7:32Speaker 4: So I called the play. I tried to execute it.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:36Speaker 4: I got it there. I took the snap. We expected zone.
- 7:39Speaker 4: We did. They took Matt Milne out of the game.
- 7:42Speaker 4: They put Jack in.
- 7:43Speaker 1: They went zone every place else, except Jack had Joe
- 7:46Speaker 1: man to man. As soon as I released that ball, remember,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you know, any given Sunday where the ball gets Bruce
- 7:53Speaker 1: Dern shoots.
- 7:53Speaker 4: The ball out of the air and it falls to
- 7:55Speaker 4: the ground.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:56Speaker 4: That's what I was hoping would happen.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Someone ripped out a gun.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So as it turns out, uh, you know, that was,
- 8:07Speaker 1: that was one that, you know, I, uh, We thought
- 8:10Speaker 1: it was going to go, but that would be one
- 8:12Speaker 1: you'd love to.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Have back, let's say.
- 8:13Speaker 3: So what do you say to Gibbs when you get
- 8:15Speaker 3: back to the sidelines there? Anything?
- 8:17Speaker 4: Oh, you'll love this.
- 8:18Speaker 3: You'll love this.
- 8:19Speaker 4: I say nothing. I say nothing.
- 8:21Speaker 1: All I'm thinking about is how the heck am I
- 8:22Speaker 1: going to explain this? Because they're going to come after
- 8:24Speaker 1: me questions, right? Yes. I'm going to get the questions,
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know, why did you do this?
- 8:27Speaker 4: Why did you put it on? So I saw Joe.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Has a great, great youth camp, Youth for Tomorrow in
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Washington metropolitan area. Raises a lot of funds for it.
- 8:36Speaker 1: So we're at a fundraiser. Four years after this, I
- 8:39Speaker 1: walk up to Coach Gibbs. I said, Coach, I got
- 8:41Speaker 1: a bone to pick with.
- 8:41Speaker 4: What's that, Joe? I love the man to death.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Anyway, and so I said, you know that, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 1: that rocket screen you called in Super Bowl 18 before
- 8:49Speaker 1: they have, that's one of the worst calls.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I think I've ever seen you make. He said, Joe,
- 8:53Speaker 4: I gotta be honest with you.
- 8:54Speaker 1: That passed you through the absolute worst.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Not taking any sort of accountability.
- 9:01Speaker 4: I love it. I love that. That man is unbelievable.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I still think today he's, I, you know, you, you
- 9:12Speaker 1: throw the term around genius in our game, but people
- 9:15Speaker 1: like Bill Walsh and, you know, Joe Gibbs, I'll tell
- 9:18Speaker 1: you who's, I think, you know, probably top one or
- 9:20Speaker 1: two coaches in the national football is Kyle Shanahan.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I think Kyle's done an incredible job.
- 9:26Speaker 1: People don't realize how many players they lose almost on
- 9:31Speaker 1: a weekly basis in San Francisco.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Crazy.
- 9:34Speaker 4: And they still function very.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Well, which only speaks to the volume of having a
- 9:39Speaker 1: quarterback who can play this position both mentally and physically.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Yeah. That's what Brock is. I believe he's an MVP candidate.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Of course, Josh Allen's You know, you can't talk about
- 9:50Speaker 1: the National Football League without considering Josh Allen as an
- 9:52Speaker 1: MVP candidate. But I think Brock Purdy's playing tremendous football
- 9:57Speaker 1: under dire circumstances at times, offensively.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Issues. You know, Trent goes down. Kittle's back. I mean,
- 10:03Speaker 4: you look at Kittle. You look at McCaffrey. The addition
- 10:06Speaker 4: of Mike Evans has made them much more difficult in
- 10:09Speaker 4: the red zone to deal with.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yes.
- 10:10Speaker 4: So it's a very weak football team.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Joe, is that the coach?
- 10:14Speaker 6: If you could choose any coach to coach your team,
- 10:16Speaker 6: if you were starting an organization, would it be Kyle Shanahan?
- 10:19Speaker 3: Is he the best coach in the game right now?
- 10:21Speaker 4: It would be an offensive coach.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I think he's one of the best. I think Andy
- 10:24Speaker 1: Reid still is one of the best in the league.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Sean McVay is another one.
- 10:29Speaker 4: These guys, they're all young.
- 10:31Speaker 1: They have a creative mind. Andy, of all of them,
- 10:36Speaker 1: Andy's probably the most creative. The things we see out
- 10:39Speaker 1: of Kansas City, I think Andy's the one that's most creative.
- 10:41Speaker 4: He just is. You know, it was funny one day
- 10:45Speaker 4: when he was coaching the Eagles, I was in broadcasting.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I walked in his office and sat down.
- 10:49Speaker 1: He had a treadmill over on one side, you know,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and Andy was a little bit larger then than he
- 10:54Speaker 1: is now.
- 10:55Speaker 4: And I said, coach, you ever use that treadmill? He says, yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 4: I hang my coat on it.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I love that. Go ahead, Taylor.
- 11:09Speaker 5: Joe, when Trevor Lawrence was coming out of Clemson, he
- 11:12Speaker 5: had such great expectations on him when he gets to Jacksonville.
- 11:16Speaker 5: And it feels like now when he's paired with Liam Coney,
- 11:18Speaker 5: he's finally meeting those expectations. What do you make of
- 11:21Speaker 5: Trevor Lawrence's play this season?
- 11:23Speaker 1: I think he's playing really solid football. It started last year.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I think he really found himself with Liam as a coach.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Look at Ben Johnson in Chicago with Caleb Williams. I
- 11:33Speaker 1: think the coach, and they're both offensive coaches, but it's
- 11:37Speaker 1: so dependent on what they're able to create, what they're
- 11:40Speaker 1: able to do as far as the growth of the
- 11:43Speaker 1: quarterback goes. Caleb was a terrific athlete, run around a lot,
- 11:46Speaker 1: made him more disciplined. Trevor's getting the ball out of
- 11:49Speaker 1: his hands a lot more. Quicker reads, get the ball
- 11:52Speaker 1: out of your hands. Why do you think Case Keenum
- 11:55Speaker 1: had so much success in Chicago for the one game
- 11:57Speaker 1: he played because he was very decisive with the football.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Didn't hold on to it.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Got it out of his hands. Legs good enough to
- 12:05Speaker 1: be able to escape and make plays. I watch young
- 12:08Speaker 1: guys today.
- 12:09Speaker 4: They look a little too long. You've got about.
- 12:11Speaker 1: 2.3 seconds to get the ball, make a decision, get
- 12:15Speaker 1: it out of your hands. You start getting into that
- 12:17Speaker 1: three second area, which doesn't sound like, it doesn't sound
- 12:19Speaker 1: like much and it really isn't, but you start getting there.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Now you start to create problems for the offensive line.
- 12:25Speaker 1: for yourself, for receivers to get open. But I really
- 12:28Speaker 1: think Trevor's stepped up. I played in the American Century
- 12:32Speaker 1: Championship with him.
- 12:33Speaker 4: I didn't play with him. I saw him on the
- 12:34Speaker 4: putting green with my family.
- 12:35Speaker 3: What a family, too, by the way.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And every time I'm around this guy, I look at him,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and all I do is look at his chest because
- 12:44Speaker 1: I have to look up to see the.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Rest of him.
- 12:46Speaker 4: He is one big kid. I'm telling you.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Giant.
- 12:51Speaker 4: A giant.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yep. I love the American Century Championship. You know that.
- 13:05Speaker 3: I see you out there every single summer. It's great.
- 13:07Speaker 6: We had Gary Sheffield. You'll love this job because you
- 13:09Speaker 6: love that tournament. You love the people who play in
- 13:11Speaker 6: that tournament. It's a beautiful bond that all of you have.
- 13:14Speaker 6: But Gary Sheffield, who met Larry David for the first time,
- 13:18Speaker 6: I think a lot of us did. this past year.
- 13:20Speaker 6: They have a round scheduled together in L.A. Sheffield was
- 13:23Speaker 6: on the show with us. He said, I don't think
- 13:25Speaker 6: Larry would play with me, Stu. And I said, Larry's
- 13:27Speaker 6: a big Yankee fan. You were just talking to him
- 13:30Speaker 6: on the driving range. I guarantee you he will get
- 13:32Speaker 6: it set up. So now the two of them are
- 13:35Speaker 6: playing very soon coming up in L.A.
- 13:37Speaker 3: So I thought you would like that story. Yes.
- 13:39Speaker 4: I made sure I got a picture taken with Larry.
- 13:41Speaker 1: You know, you talk about creative coaches.
- 13:47Speaker 4: There's a creative man.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:48Speaker 4: In the world of entertainment. That is incredibly creative individual.
- 13:52Speaker 1: And, you know, his humor, his nature and everything is just,
- 13:57Speaker 1: it was so much fun being around him.
- 13:59Speaker 3: It really was.
- 14:00Speaker 7: Joe, we have a, we have a. an idea on
- 14:02Speaker 7: this show to create a stat for interceptions that aren't
- 14:06Speaker 7: on the quarterback, but are on the wide receiver.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I agree.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I'm curious.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Well, no, because all of Joe's interceptions were on the
- 14:15Speaker 3: wide receiver. Every single one of them.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Maybe some, maybe some good defensive plays, but absolutely.
- 14:22Speaker 4: It wasn't my fault. Even the one in Super Bowl
- 14:27Speaker 4: XVIII wasn't my fault.
- 14:28Speaker 3: That was Gibbs' fault.
- 14:29Speaker 4: That's all Gibbs' fault.
- 14:32Speaker 3: We got your back, Joe. Go ahead, Mikey. I'm sorry.
- 14:36Speaker 7: I'm curious if there's a stat or a rule you
- 14:38Speaker 7: wish you could implement into the NFL.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Actually, there's two.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And I've thought about this, and I've pounded the table
- 14:45Speaker 1: on it. Number one, on a reception, if it's an
- 14:48Speaker 1: interception or a catch, if the ball touches the.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Ground in any way, shape, or form, it is incomplete.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Enough of this baloney.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Take the time to examine it, to see if it moved,
- 15:01Speaker 1: to see if he had a say.
- 15:02Speaker 4: If the ball, make it, let's go with the kiss theory, okay?
- 15:06Speaker 4: Keep it simple. If the ball touches the ground, it's incomplete. Period.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Right. Second, every play should be challengeable in the National
- 15:17Speaker 1: Football League. Now people say, well, you know, it's going
- 15:18Speaker 1: to slow the game down.
- 15:19Speaker 5: No, it's not.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I'm not giving you any more challenges. You got two challenges.
- 15:25Speaker 1: And you should be able to challenge these erroneous calls
- 15:29Speaker 1: that we're seeing on pass interference. Receivers have gotten so
- 15:33Speaker 1: smart and I give them so much credit. They're grabbing
- 15:35Speaker 1: the arm of the defender because most of the time
- 15:39Speaker 1: the position of the official is not able, they're really
- 15:42Speaker 1: not able to see everything.
- 15:44Speaker 4: And that's a tough job.
- 15:45Speaker 1: But if we have the technology, why not use it?
- 15:49Speaker 1: Look what baseball did with that square, whether it's the
- 15:52Speaker 1: challenges with strikes and ball. Why are they so inventive
- 15:56Speaker 1: and creative and inventive? And we're like refusing to use
- 16:01Speaker 1: the technology that's available to us.
- 16:04Speaker 4: And the ball touches the ground. Did it move? Did
- 16:06Speaker 4: it rotate a little bit? We don't need those conversations.
- 16:09Speaker 4: It hit the ground. It's incomplete. That's it.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Yep. I love it. Joe, I know you have to rumble.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Those two to me. I just think they make the
- 16:17Speaker 4: game better.
- 16:19Speaker 6: You've been waiting for that question. I was surprised that
- 16:21Speaker 6: you had not one but two rule changes. That was fantastic.
- 16:24Speaker 6: We'll get you out of here in a second. We
- 16:25Speaker 6: love having you on. Quick game for you. It's called
- 16:28Speaker 6: One Table. Give me the imaging. I'll explain it to
- 16:30Speaker 6: you in just a second here, Jeff.
- 16:32Speaker 2: There's one table left at the hottest spot in town,
- 16:35Speaker 2: and everybody wants it. Who's getting it, and who's getting
- 16:40Speaker 2: left outside? Greatness gets seated. Everyone else waits. This is
- 16:47Speaker 2: One Table.
- 16:49Speaker 6: All right, so it's Theismann's Steakhouse in Washington, D.C., and
- 16:53Speaker 6: in South Bend, Indiana, okay? Taylor and Mikey are going
- 16:57Speaker 6: to ask you a series of, you know, two people
- 16:59Speaker 6: are walking in. Joe, you control who gets the table,
- 17:01Speaker 6: who gets the seat. You make that decision. They're going
- 17:04Speaker 6: to give you two options, okay? There should be a
- 17:06Speaker 6: Theismann's Steakhouse in Washington, D.C. I'm not certain why there's one.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Really? There is one. Look at that. Humble brag. It's
- 17:13Speaker 3: in Alexandria, Virginia.
- 17:14Speaker 4: I've been in the restaurant business for 50 years.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:17Speaker 4: It's located on Diagonal Road in Alexandria, Virginia. It's called Theismann's.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Love it.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Lots of TVs. What's good there?
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yes. What do I get? Everything. Yes.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Everything.
- 17:29Speaker 3: All right.
- 17:30Speaker 4: My favorite is Sparelli pasta.
- 17:32Speaker 1: It's Sparelli pasta, sun-dried tomatoes, chunks of chicken that are about.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Almost three-quarters of an inch thick.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And it's been that way since we created that on
- 17:41Speaker 1: the menu for 30-plus years.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Um, and, uh, like I said, with an Alfredo sauce.
- 17:46Speaker 6: All right. So you're experienced here. Uh, Taylor, kick it
- 17:49Speaker 6: off here. Uh, you want Mikey to go first? You
- 17:51Speaker 6: want to go first?
- 17:52Speaker 5: I'll go first.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Cause I have the one in South Bend.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:55Speaker 6: So South Bend, Joe, we have moved to South Bend.
- 17:57Speaker 6: We'll come back to DC here in just a second.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Tim Brown walks in. Jerome Bettis walks in. Who gets
- 18:05Speaker 5: the table?
- 18:06Speaker 1: I put two tables together.
- 18:10Speaker 3: You can't do that, Joe. Joe, this is my game.
- 18:14Speaker 3: You can't make rule changes.
- 18:15Speaker 4: I own the restaurant. I can put two tables together
- 18:18Speaker 4: if I want.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Actually, probably Timmy because Jerome tends to eat a lot.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Right, yes, yes, yes. And Timmy, he's a Heisman Trophy winner.
- 18:28Speaker 3: That's not fair. it's not supposed to be fair, Joe.
- 18:32Speaker 3: All right, Mikey, go ahead. We're moving over to DC.
- 18:35Speaker 3: We're going back to DC. Go ahead, Mike. Okay.
- 18:38Speaker 7: John Riggins walks in.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Russ Grimm walks in.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Oh, wow. Wow. Wow.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Wow.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Russ was such a great protector.
- 18:47Speaker 1: And we, you know, I'm fortunate enough to wear a
- 18:50Speaker 1: Superbowl ring because of John's ability to run the football,
- 18:53Speaker 1: but it wouldn't be without the offensive line. Uh, I
- 18:56Speaker 1: can tell you a story about that too. I'll, um,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I'll go with, uh, I'll go with Russ cause they
- 19:01Speaker 1: were my protectors.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:02Speaker 1: But I used to, if the guys didn't give up
- 19:05Speaker 1: a sack, I would take them down. I would invite
- 19:06Speaker 1: them down to my restaurant. And John was actually part
- 19:09Speaker 1: of that because, you know, we used to have the
- 19:11Speaker 1: five o'clock club at, uh, at our practice facility where
- 19:14Speaker 1: after practice, all the offensive linemen went in to drink beer.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Uh, and Jr was part of it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: John used to sit in the offensive linemen's meeting room
- 19:23Speaker 1: as opposed to our passing meeting room.
- 19:25Speaker 4: So, but I, Rusty took care of me, so I'll
- 19:28Speaker 4: go Rusty.
- 19:28Speaker 3: All right.
- 19:29Speaker 1: John's getting his number retired on November 8th against Seattle
- 19:32Speaker 1: in Washington.
- 19:33Speaker 3: That's awesome. Riggins would feel more at home in the
- 19:36Speaker 3: offensive line room. You're right about that. Go ahead, Taylor.
- 19:38Speaker 5: So, Joe, we're back at South Bend, Indiana.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yep.
- 19:41Speaker 5: Brady Quinn walks in. Mike Golick walks in. Who gets
- 19:45Speaker 5: the table?
- 19:46Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Oh, gosh.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Mike Golick because he would beat me up if I
- 19:50Speaker 1: gave it to Brady. You know, I think Brady, I
- 19:55Speaker 1: think here's another little not so known fact. I think
- 19:58Speaker 1: Brady Quinn was the first quarterback to wear a double
- 20:01Speaker 1: digit because prior to Brady, I believe it was him,
- 20:05Speaker 1: he wore number 10. When we played, Terry Hanratty was five.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I was seven.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Coley O'Brien was three, and Bob Belden was nine. We
- 20:13Speaker 1: were all single digits at the quarterback position. Now, the
- 20:16Speaker 1: irony of that is I'm going to be at the
- 20:18Speaker 1: Miami game this.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Year in a few weeks, Notre Dame-Miami.
- 20:21Speaker 1: But when I look at our defensive line, three, five, seven,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and nine are all defensive linemen.
- 20:28Speaker 3: That's so funny.
- 20:28Speaker 6: All right, we have one more for you. By the way,
- 20:30Speaker 6: that Miami-Notre Dame game, we're invited? Yes, we can come
- 20:33Speaker 6: sit with you?
- 20:33Speaker 3: What do you think? Because Golik said no to us.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Is that part of this question and answer period?
- 20:42Speaker 3: We've been rejected twice. Mikey A, final one here for
- 20:45Speaker 3: Joe Theismann.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Third time's a charm.
- 20:49Speaker 3: I'll ask Brady Quinn. Go ahead, Mikey A. Oh, we
- 20:54Speaker 3: can't hear you.
- 20:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:55Speaker 3: All right.
- 20:56Speaker 7: Doug Williams walks in.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Oh.
- 20:58Speaker 7: Jaden Daniels walks in.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Oh, Doug.
- 21:02Speaker 1: See? See? You know, gosh, these are tough.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Yes.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I would go, you know, Doug and I have had
- 21:09Speaker 1: dinner before. We've spent time together. I haven't spent that
- 21:12Speaker 1: much time with Jaden. I would give it to Jaden
- 21:15Speaker 1: at this point. All right.
- 21:16Speaker 4: I really would. And you know what?
- 21:18Speaker 1: They'd probably walk in together and both sit down together. But,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you know, I'd like to get to know the young
- 21:23Speaker 1: man a lot more. He's got a ton of talent.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Certainly we've seen his abilities. Now the big thing is
- 21:29Speaker 4: he has to.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It's imperative that he figures out a way to stay
- 21:33Speaker 1: healthy and be able to continue to grow in the game.
- 21:36Speaker 1: You can do all the practicing you want, but it
- 21:38Speaker 1: doesn't help you grow in the game. And so, you know,
- 21:42Speaker 1: Doug would forgive me for saying this.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Joe, we always appreciate the time.
- 21:46Speaker 6: It's always great seeing you. Neither of us will be
- 21:49Speaker 6: on that video they show every year because we both
- 21:51Speaker 6: nailed it, the American Century Championships. We both nailed it
- 21:54Speaker 6: multiple times. I'm proud of us, Joe Theismann.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Thank you for doing this.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Thanks for having me, guys.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Take care. We'll see you in a couple of weeks,
- 22:00Speaker 3: Notre Dame.
