- 0:00Speaker 1: That's a real compliment, sandwich. I hate dummies, is what
- 0:03Speaker 1: those sandwich said. Hey, everybody, welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:24Speaker 1: a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a lifelong
- 0:28Speaker 1: Homemark movie fan. I'm Wendy and I know I'm just
- 0:30Speaker 1: gonna say it now. I'm going to be the outlier
- 0:32Speaker 1: in this movie review. So guys, send your emails to
- 0:35Speaker 1: Megan at Meghan and Wendy dot com. That's not our email,
- 0:38Speaker 1: it's not I know it's not. Today we're discussing Sweeter
- 0:42Speaker 1: Than Chocolate, the first movie in Hallmark's Love Youary lineup.
- 0:47Speaker 1: If you would like to connect with us outside of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the podcast, we would love for you to follow us
- 0:50Speaker 1: on Instagram. We are both at Girls Gone Hallmark, which
- 0:53Speaker 1: is obviously our Hallmark specific account, and we are at
- 0:57Speaker 1: Megan and Wendy, which is all things Megan and Yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I was thinking the other day, I was like, we
- 1:03Speaker 1: need we need like something else says like, because there's
- 1:05Speaker 1: a lot of crossover between the two shows. Yeah, times
- 1:09Speaker 1: we talk about like things that happen on Megan and
- 1:11Speaker 1: Wendy and Yeah and on Girls Gone Homework, And I
- 1:14Speaker 1: was like, we need something that says like you gotta
- 1:16Speaker 1: listen to both shows. You know right what I was
- 1:20Speaker 1: just gonna say. If you are a Girl's Gone Hamewark
- 1:22Speaker 1: listener that doesn't listen to Long Story Short with Megan
- 1:25Speaker 1: and Wendy. That is another weekly women's lifestyle podcasts. We
- 1:29Speaker 1: talk midlife, we talk parenting, we talk pop culture, we
- 1:32Speaker 1: talk beauty. We talk about how inconsistent we are in
- 1:36Speaker 1: many areas of our life. We keep it real over there,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Long Story Short with Megan and Wendy every Thursday. Find
- 1:43Speaker 1: it wherever you get podcasts back to Hallmark. If you
- 1:46Speaker 1: want to jump into our Hallmark Facebook group, come join
- 1:51Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark on Facebook. Just look it up. I'll
- 1:54Speaker 1: leave a link in the show notes too, speaking of
- 1:56Speaker 1: all the places you can find us outside of the podcast.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Also regularly, at the end of every episode, we ask
- 2:05Speaker 1: for your ratings and your reviews. But if you listen carefully,
- 2:10Speaker 1: what do we ask for? Your five star ratings and
- 2:14Speaker 1: written reviews? Everything else? Keep it to yourself, guy, Now,
- 2:18Speaker 1: everyone's entitled to their opinion. If you don't like something,
- 2:21Speaker 1: you're welcome to give it the review that you feel
- 2:24Speaker 1: that it deserves, and I feel free to take it
- 2:27Speaker 1: personally when it's about me. You guys and I can
- 2:30Speaker 1: texted me this weekend, very upset. As I read the
- 2:35Speaker 1: tone through the text. I don't actually know how upset
- 2:38Speaker 1: she was. But we received a review that was kind
- 2:43Speaker 1: of critical. Megan thinks it's about her. I listened to
- 2:46Speaker 1: the episode, which I think the reviewer was referring to.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I didn't think it was not bad the episode itself. Yes,
- 2:55Speaker 1: let's read. Let's read the review. It's titled so much screaming.
- 2:58Speaker 1: At least this doesn't say so cackling. I mean, I
- 3:02Speaker 1: enjoy the conversation, but not the screaming. They scream that
- 3:05Speaker 1: an actor is hot. They scream that a wedding veil
- 3:07Speaker 1: should be protected in earphones. It's painful to listen to them. Worse,
- 3:11Speaker 1: it sounds like faking enthusiasm and engagement by shouting. Too
- 3:14Speaker 1: bad because the analysis is interesting. That's a real compliment, Sandwich.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I enjoy the conversation, it's the first line, and the
- 3:20Speaker 1: analysis is interesting is the last line. And I hate
- 3:22Speaker 1: those two dummies, is what this shit Sandwich said. Here's
- 3:26Speaker 1: where I take issue. I, first of all, have listened
- 3:29Speaker 1: to podcasts where I have found the hosts to be
- 3:32Speaker 1: off putting for one reason or another. Sure, fair enough,
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, However it sounds like faking enthusiasm and engagement.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Let me tell you this is how I it's not
- 3:42Speaker 1: put on. You'll notice one day sometimes calls me on
- 3:45Speaker 1: my podcast voice, and that's when I try and keep
- 3:47Speaker 1: it real, nice and mellow and enjoyable for the listeners.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I can maintain that for about thirty seconds and then
- 3:52Speaker 1: the real me comes through. Well, the thing that's funny
- 3:55Speaker 1: too is that, like, did she think that we're actually
- 3:58Speaker 1: not passionate about them movie we were talking about or
- 4:01Speaker 1: the subject matter. I'm not an actress. I can't fake
- 4:04Speaker 1: me neither, like we were fired up about that stupid
- 4:07Speaker 1: veil and brite a webster back of a donkey with
- 4:12Speaker 1: your hundred year old veil. Anyway, it was quite funny.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So thanks to everybody who heard our call to action
- 4:21Speaker 1: I said, please help us. And if you're wondering where
- 4:24Speaker 1: this review is, it is only in Apple Podcasts Canada.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So if you happen to be a Canadian listener, this
- 4:31Speaker 1: is your opportunity to do your good deed for the
- 4:34Speaker 1: day and leave us a review so that that two
- 4:37Speaker 1: star review doesn't pull us down too far. Two stars
- 4:42Speaker 1: rough ouch ou ouch, but thanks for leaving one. And
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm the dummy because I am consistently looking for reviews
- 4:49Speaker 1: in other countries. This is when we've made it. You're like,
- 4:52Speaker 1: we're gonna be huge in Singapore. I'm gonna find my
- 4:54Speaker 1: reviews there too, bad. It's okay. Moving on Hallmark News
- 5:00Speaker 1: and Notes. Yes, this is some speculation, Okay, some speculation
- 5:06Speaker 1: with a little bit of weight behind it. So we
- 5:08Speaker 1: mentioned last week that Ali Sweeney had teased that she
- 5:11Speaker 1: was working on a mystery movie, but she couldn't say
- 5:14Speaker 1: anything else about it. Then Sleepy Kitty Paw on February second,
- 5:17Speaker 1: tweeted a photo of Ali Sweeney and a cute little
- 5:20Speaker 1: apron Ali Sweeney prepping to film Carrot Cake Murder, a
- 5:24Speaker 1: Hanna Swinson mystery based on the book series by Juanna Fluke.
- 5:27Speaker 1: But I looked, and I looked, and there's no actual
- 5:29Speaker 1: confirmation of that. However, Eagle Eye fan account at make
- 5:34Speaker 1: More MSB, which stands for Make More Murder She Baked
- 5:38Speaker 1: Twitter account tweeted while there is no official confirmation from Hallmark,
- 5:42Speaker 1: the homemark Wikipedia page says that a carrot Cake murder
- 5:46Speaker 1: is in pre production, so whomever is running that account
- 5:50Speaker 1: also believes, well, I know that's that's user generated content there,
- 5:55Speaker 1: but someone else believes now who knows. Perhaps it was
- 5:58Speaker 1: Sleepy Kitty Pause that led to the up of the wikipediaph.
- 6:02Speaker 1: But all things seem to be pointing to a new
- 6:05Speaker 1: Murder She Baked Wow movie, all found on the Hallmark
- 6:09Speaker 1: Dark Web. Right, I just don't understand, Like, why don't
- 6:14Speaker 1: stop teasing it? Just give us the information and let
- 6:16Speaker 1: us get hyped for it. Right the last Murder she
- 6:19Speaker 1: Baked Mystery movie? There are currently five aired in twenty seventeen.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And that's not an old photo of her. That's like
- 6:26Speaker 1: an actual current Ali Sweeney photo in an apron. You're
- 6:30Speaker 1: asking questions, so I don't have the answer. I don't know, somebody.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Five new movies were announced from March. Can I get
- 6:36Speaker 1: a first? Yeah? Okay? These five new movies announce from
- 6:40Speaker 1: March include homework favorites like Kimberly Sustad, Christopher pau Laha,
- 6:47Speaker 1: Tyler Hines, and Paul Campbell in a mystery. There's some
- 6:51Speaker 1: big names in this month. First impression, I'm excited. Well,
- 6:56Speaker 1: that makes sense to me, because I feel like free,
- 6:59Speaker 1: very kind of fight your tongue. Sorry, we have a
- 7:04Speaker 1: post in on our website with all the details for
- 7:08Speaker 1: these movies. I'm gonna leave a link in our show notes.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You can find our website at Meganewindy dot com. Okay,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I have something else to share. Yeah, and this is
- 7:18Speaker 1: new news to me while I was putting together notes
- 7:21Speaker 1: for our review here. But Hallmark Publishing closed operations unexpectedly
- 7:26Speaker 1: in October twenty twenty two. And this is relevant because
- 7:31Speaker 1: Sweeter than Chocolate by Lizzie Shane, who this was a
- 7:36Speaker 1: book this movie is based on, was published through Hallmark
- 7:41Speaker 1: Publishing and now they have like shuddered, so no more
- 7:47Speaker 1: like books from Hallmark Publishing company. I wonder if that
- 7:51Speaker 1: was at all driven by the huge rise in self
- 7:54Speaker 1: publishing by authors and the availability of those books through
- 7:58Speaker 1: platforms like Kindle and Limited. I don't know. I don't know.
- 8:02Speaker 1: The article I did read just said it was like
- 8:05Speaker 1: best business decision. It was, you know, maybe they weren't
- 8:08Speaker 1: making any money. Yeah, so that's kind of sad. We
- 8:12Speaker 1: have some viewership from last week's Love in Glacier National,
- 8:15Speaker 1: a national park romance. Speaking of Instagram by the way,
- 8:19Speaker 1: if you're not following us on Instagram, you can see
- 8:21Speaker 1: our fake mock up movie posters, which I took so
- 8:24Speaker 1: much delight in creating from last week's episode. I gotta
- 8:27Speaker 1: tell you, yesterday was in the mall and I saw
- 8:30Speaker 1: a calendar, you know, that cute store paper source, and
- 8:33Speaker 1: they had this relational parks calendar in there, and I
- 8:35Speaker 1: got a good chuckle out of it. I was actually
- 8:39Speaker 1: saw it in the window, and I wanted to go
- 8:40Speaker 1: in and see if, like a Katie A National Park
- 8:44Speaker 1: was in there or whatever. I didn't, but yeah, you know, mind,
- 8:48Speaker 1: it brought me a lot of joy to create those
- 8:50Speaker 1: so girls con homark on Instagram. But Love and Glacier
- 8:54Speaker 1: ranked thirteen out of fifty in cable telecasts for Saturday
- 8:57Speaker 1: and pulled in two million lives viewers. No, definitely in
- 9:02Speaker 1: disappointed live viewers. That's I think a lot of people
- 9:05Speaker 1: were drawn in. It looked like a good movie. Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I think a lot of people were super disappointed. Hey,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I still kind of liked it. I liked it more
- 9:13Speaker 1: than this week's movie. Oh no, oh no, buckle up friends. Wow. Okay, alrighty,
- 9:19Speaker 1: let's hear a synopsis for sweeter than chocolate. Sure Thing,
- 9:22Speaker 1: a local chocolate tear is rumored to have a secret
- 9:26Speaker 1: recipe to finding true love. On February fourteenth, drawing in
- 9:30Speaker 1: a TV reporter to investigate, starring Eloise Mumford, Dan Janote,
- 9:37Speaker 1: I think it's Janot whatever and Brenda Strong and I'm
- 9:40Speaker 1: not whatevering. Guys, don't send me your emails. I just
- 9:43Speaker 1: always mess up his name and others. Appropriate for a
- 9:47Speaker 1: movie about chocolate, this movie has a chocolate company collaboration,
- 9:51Speaker 1: Bissinger's Chocolate, which is known for their hallmark collapse in
- 9:53Speaker 1: the past, including their countdown to Christmas. Advent Calendar has
- 9:58Speaker 1: created Cupid chocolates tie in with this movie, and they
- 10:01Speaker 1: are the chocolates that were in fact featured on screen
- 10:04Speaker 1: in this movie. You can get your own. They're fifteen
- 10:07Speaker 1: dollars for a box of five milk chocolates with a
- 10:10Speaker 1: chocolate raspberry filling. Now this is super non sponsored, but
- 10:14Speaker 1: I did buy some candies from them over the Christmas holiday, Drake,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and they were delicious. I agree. We received some chocolate
- 10:23Speaker 1: from them and it was quite good. It was a
- 10:25Speaker 1: good you know, usually the chocolate and a chocolate Advent
- 10:28Speaker 1: Calendar is garbage. Yeah right, it was good chocolate. Now
- 10:32Speaker 1: I got like chocolate covered marshmallows and then they got
- 10:34Speaker 1: these like chocolate caramel lolly pop things. It was good stuff,
- 10:38Speaker 1: yummy stuff. Cool. Yeah. This film, like I said earlier,
- 10:43Speaker 1: is based on the book by the same name by
- 10:45Speaker 1: Lizzie Shane, and it is available on Amazon. Guys and
- 10:49Speaker 1: listener and friend of the Show Michelle read the book
- 10:53Speaker 1: movie and had very high reviews for it. So if
- 10:58Speaker 1: you liked the movie, she said, the book was even better.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Good to know. This movie was directed by David Weaver,
- 11:04Speaker 1: who has thirty eight directing credits, including Girls Gone, Hallmark Favorite,
- 11:08Speaker 1: Lights Camera Christmas, as well as Merry Go Round recently.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Oh I didn't like Marry Go Round. Neither did I,
- 11:15Speaker 1: but I love Lights Camera Christmas. Filming took place in
- 11:19Speaker 1: and around the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. One
- 11:24Speaker 1: specific location per Pinstripe was the Picturess Fort Langley Community Hall,
- 11:30Speaker 1: which doesn't have like a great name, and so I
- 11:33Speaker 1: looked it up. It's beautiful and I was like, oh, yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 1: I remember seeing that in the movie. It's like very pretty, yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 1: very pretty, Like get some better. Pr Fort Langley Community Home. Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I get a better name, yo. While speaking of Pinstripe
- 11:46Speaker 1: Dan Jannotte, who plays Dean Chase in this movie, although
- 11:49Speaker 1: he will always be Pinstripe in US due to his
- 11:51Speaker 1: role on The Bold Type. He was also in twenty
- 11:55Speaker 1: five episodes of The Good Witch, a Hallmark Channel home series.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I'm glad to see him getting starring Hallmark movie roles.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I quite enjoy him me too. I like him a
- 12:05Speaker 1: lot to Brenda Strong plays Lucy's mom, and I'm sorry
- 12:10Speaker 1: I could not find her name. It was not listed
- 12:12Speaker 1: on IMDb and I could not remember from the movie.
- 12:15Speaker 1: She's probably best known for playing Mary Alice Young in
- 12:17Speaker 1: Desperate Housewives, as well as Anne Ewing in the reboot
- 12:21Speaker 1: of Dallas from twenty twelve to twenty fourteen, and also
- 12:25Speaker 1: twenty two episodes as Norah Walker in the Netflix show
- 12:29Speaker 1: Thirteen Reasons Why, which is real hard watch for parents
- 12:33Speaker 1: of teenagers. Brenda Strong's character in this movie is named Helen, Helen,
- 12:38Speaker 1: Helen Sweet, Lucy and Helen Sweet. This movie has two
- 12:41Speaker 1: writer credits, Kim Byer Johnson and Tracy and Dreen. Kim
- 12:44Speaker 1: Buyer Johnson recently wrote Inventing the Christmas Press and Snow Kissed,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and Tracy Andreene wrote The Holiday Sitter and Two Tickets
- 12:51Speaker 1: to Paradise. Both are accomplished writers and have quite a
- 12:54Speaker 1: few writing credits to their names. Yay Now Eloise Mumford.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I know she has a real big fan following. I'm
- 13:03Speaker 1: not familiar with her though we've seen her and quite
- 13:06Speaker 1: a few things guys, I know, but I've seen a
- 13:08Speaker 1: million Hallmark nies over the last two and a half years.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So she made an impression on me in this movie
- 13:14Speaker 1: in a way she hadn't necessarily done. So oh really
- 13:17Speaker 1: in past Oh really real cute haircut in this movie.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I was thinking, like, do I want to do that
- 13:22Speaker 1: with my hair? Maybe I do? Yeah, curl it like that? Yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: cute right. She has twenty film credits, including Hallmark Movies
- 13:29Speaker 1: and mysteries Presence of Love in twenty twenty two, one
- 13:33Speaker 1: December Night from twenty twenty one, and also The Baker
- 13:37Speaker 1: Son from the same year. She also started in three
- 13:41Speaker 1: fifty Shades movie see I saw the first one. I
- 13:44Speaker 1: don't remember. I didn't see any of them, but I
- 13:46Speaker 1: did read all of them, so don't worry. I'm not
- 13:49Speaker 1: too good for fifty shades. All right, are you ready
- 13:52Speaker 1: for a potentially controversial clash of the first impression? I am.
- 13:56Speaker 1: You can go for sure. Mine is Lovyerry is offt
- 13:59Speaker 1: to a surprising starts. Oh god, Mine is No more
- 14:03Speaker 1: magic things, no magic veil, no magic chocolates. Can we
- 14:06Speaker 1: just have good old chemistry between people. I'm so over this,
- 14:10Speaker 1: like outside influence to make people fall on love, over it,
- 14:14Speaker 1: over it, over it. To your point, the magic chocolate
- 14:18Speaker 1: is not the quote magic in this movie for me,
- 14:21Speaker 1: all right, tell me what is now. I have a
- 14:24Speaker 1: very long list of things that I like, So I'm
- 14:25Speaker 1: gonna go ahead and start. Because your list is going
- 14:27Speaker 1: to be shorter than mine. I'm just gonna say, like,
- 14:29Speaker 1: check if you if you come across it. I found
- 14:32Speaker 1: the directing in this movie to be fantastic, And let
- 14:34Speaker 1: me give you some examples of moments that I love. Please.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Early in the movie, Dean is walking with his boss
- 14:41Speaker 1: Nora and they have a walk and talk. Now, I've
- 14:46Speaker 1: mentioned on another podcast I Am deep into a rewatch
- 14:50Speaker 1: of The West Wing, a show that I've seen many times.
- 14:51Speaker 1: In West Wing, I think is well known for their
- 14:54Speaker 1: walk and talk scenes because they're hard to produce. This
- 14:58Speaker 1: is a one shot sequence, okay, where they're walking through
- 15:01Speaker 1: the halls, and I will say, there's a lot of people.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It's like a busy airport in those halls. But I
- 15:05Speaker 1: thought it was a really nice from a cinematography directorial perspective.
- 15:12Speaker 1: There's another moment there when Lucy's friends drew up to
- 15:16Speaker 1: help her when they're overwhelmed with their number of chocolate orders. Yes,
- 15:21Speaker 1: and there's a cute choreographed scene of the chocolate being boxed,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and it's again a one shot as the chocolate moves
- 15:28Speaker 1: through the shop. That's attention to detail that wasn't necessary
- 15:32Speaker 1: in that moment, and I feel like it added something
- 15:34Speaker 1: to that scene. You don't know this right now, but
- 15:36Speaker 1: Wendy's rolling her eyes. You know, I don't even know
- 15:39Speaker 1: I know what scenes you're talking about, but like I
- 15:41Speaker 1: didn't even like I wasn't that invested while cheeing it
- 15:45Speaker 1: to let me just tell you, I was home alone
- 15:49Speaker 1: on Saturday night, teed up the movie when it came on,
- 15:52Speaker 1: was very excited, and then found myself on my phone
- 15:55Speaker 1: and they had to rewind the movie to see what
- 15:57Speaker 1: I had missed. So that's where I'm coming from. Tell
- 16:02Speaker 1: me what else you liked. I really liked the inclusion
- 16:07Speaker 1: of the love stories chick. Yes, I agree. I have
- 16:10Speaker 1: that on my list too, And I like that they
- 16:12Speaker 1: weren't just clips of we met here and then they
- 16:16Speaker 1: fade out of that conversation. We hear their full love
- 16:19Speaker 1: story in each of these cases. And again that's another
- 16:22Speaker 1: attention to detail that wasn't perhaps necessary for the story,
- 16:26Speaker 1: but I think makes the story feel more full. Okay.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I loved the on the street interviews, oh did you?
- 16:33Speaker 1: And I really liked when we have the two ladies
- 16:36Speaker 1: and they say, in those days, two ladies dancing caused
- 16:38Speaker 1: quite the stir, and we didn't care. I just thought
- 16:40Speaker 1: that I loved those two little ladies together. My it's lovely.
- 16:44Speaker 1: The banter in this movie is quite enjoyable writing. There's
- 16:48Speaker 1: so many funny, little like throwaway lines that just really
- 16:51Speaker 1: did it for me. One line that I know Wendy
- 16:54Speaker 1: noticed is Lucy calls Dina Sinek and he goes, I'm
- 16:58Speaker 1: not a cynic, and she goes, oh, right, you're a realist.
- 17:00Speaker 1: This is because we've had this conversation between you and
- 17:03Speaker 1: I am a million times. Yes, Because Wendy is an optimist,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and she has called me a pessimist, and I will
- 17:09Speaker 1: tell you no, ma'am. She is a realist. I am.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I mean, somebody could have just took the words right
- 17:16Speaker 1: out of my mouth for that scene. We've got real
- 17:20Speaker 1: music alert in this movie as long as Until I
- 17:23Speaker 1: Found You by Steven Sanchez, Huge TikTok song, Huge TikTok song.
- 17:28Speaker 1: My daughter was a huge fan of that song before
- 17:30Speaker 1: it became like, yeah, radio famous, you know, when she's
- 17:33Speaker 1: cueing up her in the car playlists. And then not
- 17:37Speaker 1: only did I like that they had real music in
- 17:40Speaker 1: that dancing scene, the lyrics of that song are perfect
- 17:44Speaker 1: for the moment. Yeah, in that scene, I liked it
- 17:46Speaker 1: because it did like a little fast forward, yes to
- 17:50Speaker 1: the end of the night they're still dancing. That actually
- 17:52Speaker 1: is one of my favorite scenes in the entire pace.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm not a full hater, guys, And they told me
- 17:59Speaker 1: on Instagram that I was incapable of true love or
- 18:03Speaker 1: something like that. Yeah, like I'm not into it, which
- 18:06Speaker 1: is not true. Like I don't have a full black heart.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I am here for romance. So like, I really enjoyed
- 18:15Speaker 1: that scene and she's holding her shoes as she's like
- 18:17Speaker 1: still dancing with them. Yeah, and I love that song.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I thought it was appropriate in that moment. Do you
- 18:22Speaker 1: want to hop in here with anything else? I think
- 18:24Speaker 1: you pretty much covered it a dialogue. I love the
- 18:28Speaker 1: two leads. I thought they were great together. Yes, yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 1: you covered it all, and I have more go for it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I wanted to give you an opportunity to go for it.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I there were a lot of really touching moments for me.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Name Lucy talks about losing her dad and how through
- 18:43Speaker 1: her mom's grief it felt like she had lost both parents,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and I like how in the beginning of the movie,
- 18:51Speaker 1: we see Lucy's mom, Helen, house hunting, but we don't
- 18:54Speaker 1: really get any details about that. We just have a
- 18:56Speaker 1: shot of her looking and she says, I'm not really
- 18:58Speaker 1: sure that I'm ready. And then now we find out,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know, her mom's kind of been in the weeds
- 19:03Speaker 1: of grief, right, and she's maybe ready to move on.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I loved the conversation that these two people have. This
- 19:10Speaker 1: is an adult conversation between Lucy and Dean when he
- 19:13Speaker 1: comes to her he's gotten the interview for the job
- 19:15Speaker 1: that he really wants. Oh go causet was kind of heartbreaking.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I thought so too, And they don't leave it open
- 19:21Speaker 1: for misunderstandings. They talk it out. Yeah. I enjoy that
- 19:25Speaker 1: she knows this is a job he wants. He's clear
- 19:27Speaker 1: that this is a job he wants. But he also says,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I think we might have something here. They have a conversation.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I think they make the right decision in that moment.
- 19:34Speaker 1: This is new. He needs to pursue this big career move,
- 19:38Speaker 1: something you've been working for for your entire life, like
- 19:40Speaker 1: you have to see it through. And of course it's
- 19:42Speaker 1: a little heartbreaking because they are starting to fall for
- 19:44Speaker 1: each other. In this moment, Lucy's mom saying that the
- 19:48Speaker 1: grief was worth the love. She would do it all
- 19:50Speaker 1: over again, knowing what she knows. I loved that little interview.
- 19:54Speaker 1: And finally Lucy has his conversation with Dean. He's gonna
- 19:59Speaker 1: go have this inner you. She supports him, but she's
- 20:01Speaker 1: heartbroken and she goes back to the shop and it's
- 20:03Speaker 1: overrun with people, and she melts down and kicks everybody out,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and then she has this overwhelmed crying moment. And I
- 20:10Speaker 1: could absolutely relate to those feelings. I can see that. However,
- 20:15Speaker 1: are you truly going to kick out a line of
- 20:18Speaker 1: people out of your shop when you need the money
- 20:21Speaker 1: so badly? Because rent has now increased to sixty two
- 20:25Speaker 1: percent per month, which is a real thing here in
- 20:27Speaker 1: like southern California. I mean it may be all over
- 20:29Speaker 1: the place too, like this is this is a little
- 20:33Speaker 1: tirade part month. No, that would be illegal, right somebody
- 20:37Speaker 1: I read that somewhere? Is that illegal to raise You
- 20:40Speaker 1: need a certain amount of time before a rent rais
- 20:42Speaker 1: and I think there may have been some miscommunication. Okay,
- 20:46Speaker 1: well fine, but this is where like small shops cannot
- 20:50Speaker 1: survive because people are raising rent so high. Yes, I
- 20:55Speaker 1: don't necessarily think it was a great idea to kick
- 20:57Speaker 1: out paying customers, but I could understand her feeling of
- 21:00Speaker 1: kind of like sensory overload, like I cannot take this path,
- 21:06Speaker 1: and so she needed to go in the back and
- 21:08Speaker 1: like go about the moment somewhere else. Yes. Agree, Now
- 21:12Speaker 1: I'm ready to move on. Okay, all right, let's talk
- 21:15Speaker 1: about what we wished for. I'm gonna start here. Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I please don't come for me. I thought the story
- 21:23Speaker 1: was really slow moving, like I needed them to pick
- 21:27Speaker 1: up the pace. I found the beginning very enjoyable, and
- 21:31Speaker 1: then the middle was just and then the end. Okay,
- 21:34Speaker 1: I just thought it was so slow and there was
- 21:37Speaker 1: nothing else, like there was nothing to me, Like I
- 21:41Speaker 1: don't care about these magic chocolates. Yeah, and I know
- 21:44Speaker 1: the story, like I know it wasn't about the magic chocolates. Yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 1: they're They're relatively meaningless to me, right, So maybe if
- 21:54Speaker 1: I went back and watched it in that kind of
- 21:56Speaker 1: like through that lens, and maybe I would enjoy it more.
- 21:59Speaker 1: But I think kind of went into it with this
- 22:01Speaker 1: expectation of something like the magic veil, you know what
- 22:06Speaker 1: I mean, Like there was this like what's really wasn't
- 22:09Speaker 1: magic chocolates. It was just it was not It was
- 22:11Speaker 1: just right, Am I wrong? Here is my interpretation wrong?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Like the movie the chocolates were not truly magical. Well,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I think they believe that they are. I don't. I
- 22:23Speaker 1: don't think the veil's magical either. Okay, did you watch
- 22:25Speaker 1: a Kisnet Christmas? Yeah? It was like magical. Yeah, I
- 22:30Speaker 1: don't need any of those. I don't, but you need
- 22:32Speaker 1: magic chocolate. No, I'm saying the chocolate is irrelevant to
- 22:36Speaker 1: me in this movie there's nothing about the chocolate storyline
- 22:40Speaker 1: that has any meaning to me in this is the
- 22:42Speaker 1: storyline that you like so much. I liked their their
- 22:46Speaker 1: budding relationship. Yes, I liked their connection. I liked her
- 22:50Speaker 1: relationship with her mom. I liked their banter together. The
- 22:55Speaker 1: chocolates really you could lift them out of the movie.
- 22:59Speaker 1: For me, didn't changed my experience. Okay, all right. That
- 23:02Speaker 1: being said, I liked it when they were making chocolate.
- 23:04Speaker 1: They actually were making chocolate, like they had chocolate to
- 23:07Speaker 1: work with. Yeah, that's see was kind of sexy. They
- 23:11Speaker 1: like piping chocolate and pouring. Eh, they didn't have to
- 23:14Speaker 1: do that. She's like, go get an apron. It was.
- 23:17Speaker 1: That was a cute scene. I liked it too. Something
- 23:20Speaker 1: I really wished for Brenda Strong, who plays the mom
- 23:25Speaker 1: in this movie. I wanted her to have her own
- 23:28Speaker 1: love story, and it was all expecting it. I thought
- 23:31Speaker 1: it was she was going to like meet the camera man, right.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I did think that Dean's co worker and her were
- 23:39Speaker 1: making a little bit of a connection, but that is
- 23:41Speaker 1: that's so tue. But it had never panned out. No,
- 23:43Speaker 1: But I was hoping for something. And now I can't
- 23:47Speaker 1: remember how long they said, like her husband had. I
- 23:50Speaker 1: think it's been eight years. Oh, so maybe she's ready
- 23:55Speaker 1: for to meet somebody new. Yes, but keep in mind
- 23:58Speaker 1: she was still living with Lucy. She was just ready
- 24:02Speaker 1: to move out on her own. So I don't think
- 24:05Speaker 1: she was quite ready for a new relationship yet. I
- 24:08Speaker 1: just think this was a misuse of an actor who
- 24:13Speaker 1: could have had more of a storyline, who could have
- 24:15Speaker 1: handled more of a storyline. Yeah, you're not wrong. Brenda
- 24:18Speaker 1: Strong is striking to me. I want to see her
- 24:21Speaker 1: in a lead Hallmark role in a movie a later
- 24:24Speaker 1: in life divorcee widowers something, Yes, give me some she'd
- 24:31Speaker 1: be a widow. I suppose I wish that Lucy would
- 24:34Speaker 1: buy bigger bags of coco beans. You run a chocolate
- 24:36Speaker 1: shop and you buy a one pound bag of cocoa
- 24:39Speaker 1: beans the farmer's market. No buy in bulk. You buy
- 24:42Speaker 1: in bulk. And now I understand you want to buy
- 24:44Speaker 1: fair trade chocolate. I am sure you can find a
- 24:46Speaker 1: fair trade chocolate company, cocoa bean company that will send
- 24:51Speaker 1: you a giant bag of their cocoa beans. You buy
- 24:55Speaker 1: from the farmer's market. When you are in a pinch,
- 24:58Speaker 1: you accidentally run out right as your business plan. Right,
- 25:02Speaker 1: what did you think about the secret ingredient? Bravery? Sorry
- 25:08Speaker 1: just again, chocolate storyline you could lift out of this
- 25:12Speaker 1: movie for me. Didn't need it. That's all I wished for.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I wish that their online ordering system had an order
- 25:17Speaker 1: limit so they wouldn't over commit themselves. You are a
- 25:20Speaker 1: small business. You just have an unlimited number of And
- 25:23Speaker 1: it happened more than once. Right, They got this influx
- 25:27Speaker 1: of orders when the ordering system was put in place,
- 25:30Speaker 1: and you'd think at that point they would say to Georgie, hey,
- 25:34Speaker 1: nice job on the website, but could you put a
- 25:36Speaker 1: limit so that we sell out, so that we are
- 25:39Speaker 1: not in a position that we cannot fulfill these orders? Yeah?
- 25:42Speaker 1: Think it the our ladies. Yeah, I just had something
- 25:45Speaker 1: else I wished for. Dam Chase is an investigative reporter.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Why is he not investigating the rent? The rent increase?
- 25:54Speaker 1: I thought it was a missed opportunity here, not this look.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I get that he was trying to give a fluffier
- 26:01Speaker 1: image that he could get the morning show like Spot,
- 26:04Speaker 1: But yeah, just an idea. It's time for Did you
- 26:09Speaker 1: see that we have some legitimate did you see that moment?
- 26:13Speaker 1: So there is a moment where Helen is looking at
- 26:17Speaker 1: home listings online. Yes, and we just they just flashed
- 26:21Speaker 1: to it very briefly, and I flashed on the fact
- 26:25Speaker 1: that the prices were very low, and then I just
- 26:28Speaker 1: let it go. And I remember my brain thinking, is
- 26:30Speaker 1: that rent. Surely you can't buy a house for six
- 26:33Speaker 1: thousand dollars. But Girls Go on Hallmark Facebook member Mike
- 26:37Speaker 1: comes in hot with the screenshots and more than the price,
- 26:41Speaker 1: which are for beautiful single family homes, they're listed at
- 26:46Speaker 1: sixty seven hundred dollars. Fifty three hundred dollars is the
- 26:49Speaker 1: size of these homes right? For example, one is listed
- 26:52Speaker 1: as six bedrooms, four bathrooms, two hundred and thirty square feet,
- 26:55Speaker 1: which is smaller than the dining room that we're sitting
- 26:57Speaker 1: in right now. It's so weird, right, I mean, I
- 27:00Speaker 1: know it's all fake numbers and whatever, but I'm sure
- 27:03Speaker 1: I wonder if, like the props department was like, let's
- 27:07Speaker 1: just put these fake numbers in here because nobody's gonna
- 27:10Speaker 1: see it anywhere anyway. But then like they didn't know,
- 27:12Speaker 1: like Mike from Girls Gone Homemark was going to screenshot,
- 27:18Speaker 1: pause the TV and screenshot the flyer for these for
- 27:21Speaker 1: these houses. And what's funny to me is there's some
- 27:24Speaker 1: homes listed along the side and they says like home
- 27:26Speaker 1: facts status three hours, which what does not happen? Has that?
- 27:30Speaker 1: How long it's been on the side. I don't know,
- 27:31Speaker 1: Harberdy type townhouse. You're looking clearly at a single family
- 27:34Speaker 1: home in this photo. Homeownerdues two hundred and twenty dollars
- 27:37Speaker 1: a month, but it's eight thousand dollars, five bedrooms, woor bathrooms,
- 27:40Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty square feet. It was just a fun, little,
- 27:43Speaker 1: fun little grab. It's like one of those small houses.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Are is that what they're called? House? That's funny. I
- 27:52Speaker 1: saw this one, this one scene where Tracy is going
- 27:57Speaker 1: to give Bean a piece of chocolate and she it
- 28:00Speaker 1: out of the case bare fingers. It's there's no gloves,
- 28:06Speaker 1: it's not sitting in a cute little candy wrapper. It's
- 28:09Speaker 1: just a piece of chocolate from the case and she
- 28:11Speaker 1: hands it home, which I mean, like at this point
- 28:13Speaker 1: they haven't kissed her anything, but maybe you have a friendship.
- 28:17Speaker 1: But like, isn't there some sort of sanitary you grab
- 28:19Speaker 1: a little one of those tissues at the doughnuts? I mean,
- 28:23Speaker 1: I go to our local chocolate tear here. Quite often
- 28:27Speaker 1: you're talking about seas candy. Hey, I'm talking about Sea's candy,
- 28:30Speaker 1: and it's always in a little paper cup. Yes, And
- 28:33Speaker 1: they do not grab their chocolates, They do not bare
- 28:37Speaker 1: finger their chocolates their fingers. They I think they wear
- 28:40Speaker 1: gloves there, which, by the way, gloves are not actually
- 28:43Speaker 1: more sanitary than your skin. But I do think they
- 28:45Speaker 1: picked them up, wo says every food Safety Why say ever,
- 28:50Speaker 1: because you're still transferring, transferring, transfering transfer me, Yes, because
- 28:54Speaker 1: people assume like, oh, I have gloves, it's cleaner, but
- 28:57Speaker 1: you're still touching things like yeah, I understand that process
- 28:59Speaker 1: should be washing anyway. Yeah, I think they use like
- 29:01Speaker 1: a little bakery tissue to pull their chocolates out on.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to look next time. I get it's
- 29:07Speaker 1: a good point. I have a digit to that question.
- 29:10Speaker 1: They talk about we have to do well for Valentine's
- 29:13Speaker 1: Day because that's our biggest chocolate day of the year. Yeah,
- 29:16Speaker 1: I think so. So I thought, do you not tell
- 29:19Speaker 1: at Easter and Christmas and Mother's Day? And I looked
- 29:22Speaker 1: it up and research from the Nielsen Company suggests that
- 29:24Speaker 1: Easter is a bigger chocolate holiday than Valentine Day. I
- 29:28Speaker 1: will tell you we spend a lot more money and
- 29:29Speaker 1: seas candy during Easter than we do in Valentine's Day. Yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 1: I can see that because you buy for more people,
- 29:36Speaker 1: like for Valentine if you're truly borrying for one single person,
- 29:41Speaker 1: not like a family situation. Right Easter, you're doing baskets
- 29:45Speaker 1: for kids and whatever. And I buy it way more
- 29:49Speaker 1: at Christmas too than Valentine's Day for gifts. I just
- 29:53Speaker 1: thought it was this is not going to be. They've
- 29:55Speaker 1: got another holiday rolling around the corner. You don't need
- 29:57Speaker 1: to make all your money in February because that was
- 29:59Speaker 1: their thing. You gotta make this money to cover it
- 30:01Speaker 1: for the year, right, stressful man? Anything else? No? Are
- 30:06Speaker 1: you ready to rate this movie? I am? I gave
- 30:08Speaker 1: it four stars. Wow, I gave it two and a half. Yea,
- 30:12Speaker 1: actually originally gave it four and a half just so
- 30:14Speaker 1: you know what I am. Sorry, it is mompa good
- 30:18Speaker 1: of a movie. I really liked it. You're I know.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I'm in the minority here. Our Facebook group love this movie.
