- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. My name is Tracie.
- 0:03And if you are new to Fostering Faith, we are
- 0:06here to talk real talk about Jesus and what we
- 0:10are walking through in our own kind of personal
- 0:13lives. And so we are in a season of new beginnings,
- 0:17new projects and all the things. And so we are
- 0:23looking at new seasons as far as being unshaken.
- 0:28and so in this episode we're going to be talking
- 0:31about how we are going to be unshaken and it
- 0:36is all about new seasons and trusting God and
- 0:41it is kind of scary sometimes but we have a conference
- 0:45that's coming up in our community um and we are
- 0:51going with the theme of unshaken for our junior
- 0:53high and high school. And so as we are walking
- 0:56in this unshakable season, we have to just trust
- 0:59and know that God has a plan. And so we are just
- 1:05gonna be talking about. Unshaken in new beginnings
- 1:08trusting God's plan in every new season and so
- 1:12hey friends welcome back to fostering faith I
- 1:13don't know about you, but I love the feeling
- 1:16of new beginnings So much it makes me a little
- 1:20like I'm gonna puke but so excited the smell
- 1:23of fresh notebooks the First day on a job a clean
- 1:27slate moving into a new place. There's nothing
- 1:31that Like the new car smell There's something
- 1:37about that. It makes you just feel like anything's
- 1:41impossible. But you know what else? A new beginning
- 1:43can also feel unpredictable. Like you're standing
- 1:47on a dock and the boat just pushed away and you
- 1:51didn't get on it. And maybe you're starting a
- 1:53new school this year, joining a new team this
- 1:55year, heading to college, starting new relationships,
- 1:58or even stepping into a leadership role for the
- 2:00first time. And it's exciting, but also a little
- 2:03scary. And that's where we're at. We don't have
- 2:06to have all the answers. God's not asking us
- 2:09to predict the future. He's asking us to trust
- 2:12that He already has a plan. And so today we're
- 2:15going to walk and talk through what it means
- 2:17to step into new beginnings, new relationships,
- 2:21new seasons, unshaken. And we're going to have
- 2:24some fun with it. We're going to dive into some
- 2:26words and we're going to remind ourselves that
- 2:29even when life feels unpredictable, God promises
- 2:33our rock solid. And so we have Hebrews 12, 26
- 2:37through 29, and I'm going to be reading it out
- 2:39of the NASB version as I am starting my own new
- 2:44journey going back to college for a master's
- 2:48in theology and Bible study. They are. saying
- 2:53that we need to be in an NASB version of scripture.
- 2:57And I will be real honest. I had never heard
- 2:59of it. I've never read it. And so I ordered me
- 3:01my first NASB Bible. And so that's what we are
- 3:06gonna be talking about today. And so it says
- 3:09in Hebrews 12, 26 through 29, it says, and his
- 3:12voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised
- 3:16saying, yet once more I will shake not only the
- 3:19earth, but also the heavens. This expression,
- 3:22yet once more, denotes the removing of those
- 3:25things which can be shaken as created things,
- 3:28so that those things which cannot be shaken will
- 3:31remain. Therefore, since we have received a kingdom
- 3:35such cannot be shaken, let's show gratitude by
- 3:38which we may offer God an acceptable service
- 3:42of reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming
- 3:45fire." And that's going to be our anchor today.
- 3:48God's shaking isn't meant to scare us. It's meant
- 3:52to settle us. He shakes whenever what's temporary.
- 3:57So our eternal stand can be taller. And so like
- 4:01whenever you're like you're shifting flour, whenever
- 4:06you are potentially like baking a cake and like
- 4:08whenever I used to whenever I lived at home,
- 4:10my mom would whenever she would bake a cake like
- 4:12she would drop it a couple times she would shake
- 4:14it up and so all the bubbles would get out of
- 4:15it. And so These are kind of what I think of
- 4:20in my own life about shaky grounds, what's happening
- 4:24whenever we're sifting through things, is to
- 4:27get all the stuff away if you're ever gonna sift
- 4:31through sand to find seashells, or you think
- 4:35of old time miners sifting through the water
- 4:38to get the gold. And so you also have Jeremiah
- 4:4229 and 11. So four, I know the plans that I have
- 4:45for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper
- 4:47and not for disaster, but to give you hope in
- 4:50the future. And we have Proverbs three, five
- 4:52through six, and it says, trust in the Lord with
- 4:54all your heart and do not lean into your own
- 4:56understanding and all your ways acknowledge him
- 4:59and he will make your path straight. Hebrews
- 5:026, 19 says, this hope we have as an anchor of
- 5:05our soul, a hope both sure and reliable. And
- 5:10so God knows the plan whenever we don't. And
- 5:14so here's the tension and new beginnings. You
- 5:17want to know what's going on. You want a roadmap.
- 5:20You want a GPS. You want to know how long it's
- 5:21going to take to get there. You want to know
- 5:23all the things. You want to know if the new school
- 5:26feels like home. You want to know if the new
- 5:28relationship will work out. You want to know
- 5:30if this is the right career path. But God doesn't
- 5:33promise us a roadmap. He promises us Himself.
- 5:39And when the Israelites were about to enter the
- 5:42promised land, they didn't get a blueprint for
- 5:44the journey. They got God's presence. And that's
- 5:49better than a map because the map can get outdated,
- 5:53but God's presence is living and active every
- 5:57day. And so if you knew every detail of the new
- 6:00season before you started it, would you lean
- 6:03on to God in the same way? Or we'd be like, oh,
- 6:07nope, I got this. And so, and then just walk
- 6:09away from him. Or would you rely on him, his
- 6:13plan? Or would you rely on your own? Like, well,
- 6:17I already know what I'm gonna do. And so I'm
- 6:18just gonna skip, you know, A and B, and I'm gonna
- 6:21go directly to C, or I know this shortcut over
- 6:23here, and so I'm gonna do this. And so he's like,
- 6:26just walk with me. Don't get ahead of me. Don't
- 6:29get behind me. Just walk in the plan that I have
- 6:32created for you. And I think that we, as I've
- 6:36done other podcasts about my fast -paced through
- 6:39life and even just through, just. a lot of things
- 6:45and I was signing up for classes for school and
- 6:48they were like, no, we don't want you to take
- 6:50that many hours right out of the gate. We want
- 6:52you to simmer and really just bask in what God
- 6:55has for you and just really just deeply root
- 6:59yourself in these classes. And so we don't want
- 7:01you to hurry through them and just get them done.
- 7:04We want you to like really just lean into his
- 7:06presence and see what he is going to do in your
- 7:10life. And so point number two, Being unshaken
- 7:14means letting go of control, and that is so,
- 7:18so hard for, I would assume, the most of us.
- 7:24And so, Hebrews says, God removes what can be
- 7:27shaken. So, that what cannot be shaken will remain.
- 7:32Sometimes that means that He shakes loose our
- 7:35need to control every outcome. New beginnings
- 7:39are unpredictable because they are not meant
- 7:42For us to know they're meant to grow our faith.
- 7:45So think about it a tree grows its deepest roots
- 7:48during storms Not during sunny afternoons when
- 7:52it's 75 degrees and a slight wind out of out
- 7:55of five God never lets the wind blow our roots
- 7:59if God never let our roots Let me repeat that
- 8:05God will never let the wind blow our roots it
- 8:09wouldn't grow us to any deeper and so if it's
- 8:12like whenever I think it's called heathering
- 8:14whenever you have like you're growing like whenever
- 8:17we first started to like be a family we had a
- 8:20huge huge garden and there was a Plant that we
- 8:26would take from seed, but you had to blow like
- 8:29air on them And I think it's quite called heathering
- 8:32Maybe fact check me on that. I don't know but
- 8:35that would make it's stronger. And so as we are
- 8:38growing and as we are maturing in Christ, I mean,
- 8:41the storms are going to be there, the winds are
- 8:42going to be there, tornadoes, hurricanes, like
- 8:44whatever, literally and, you know, metaphorically.
- 8:48But those are to make us stronger. And I think
- 8:51we talked about it in another podcast how, you
- 8:53know, bamboo, you know, grows down and has roots
- 8:57deeper. And we've done, you know, episodes on
- 9:00being rooted in Christ too. And so, you know,
- 9:02during those storms, you know, those are meant
- 9:04to shake off the dead leaves and to make sure
- 9:07that we are, you know, producing good fruit.
- 9:10And so what's one thing that I can release control
- 9:16of in this season? What are the new things that
- 9:22I'm trying to control? What can I let go in this
- 9:25season? What is holding me back? What is my hand
- 9:28so full of that I can't grasp the new thing that
- 9:31God has for me? And so these are the questions
- 9:33that I try to ask myself. Am I living with my
- 9:36hands wide open? Am I living with my hands to
- 9:39a posture of, hey. I don't want to grip onto
- 9:43anything that I'm not supposed to, you know,
- 9:45give the doors that I'm not supposed to walk
- 9:47through hot handles. I don't want to keep going
- 9:49through things that was never meant for me to
- 9:52go. This is the way that I want to go. But if
- 9:54I'm not meant to go there, make the doors have
- 9:56hot handles, you know, and thanking him in advance
- 9:59for the open doors that he has. And so we have
- 10:03all these issues that we want to control because
- 10:05we want to know this and we want to know this
- 10:07and we want to do this and more information and
- 10:08more information and more information. He was
- 10:10like, no. No, you don't need to know that. Why
- 10:14don't you trust me? Why don't you know that I
- 10:17am your Redeemer? I am your father. I love you.
- 10:22I'm not gonna give you things that I did not
- 10:26put inside of you. Like I've created you for
- 10:29this specific purpose. I want you to walk into
- 10:32this new season trusting me because I've never
- 10:35left you. I've never forsaken you. You've made
- 10:37it this far. And he never promised it was gonna
- 10:41be easy, but he promised that he was always gonna
- 10:43be there for us. And so you have new seasons
- 10:47means new people. And here's something that's
- 10:50both exciting and scary about new seasons. They
- 10:53almost always mean new people, new classmates,
- 10:57new teammates, new coworkers, new neighbors,
- 11:00and sometimes even new leaders or mentors. And
- 11:05here's what I've learned. The people that God
- 11:07brings into your life in a new season are not
- 11:10on accident. They're assignments. And some will
- 11:13sharpen you, some will stretch you, and some
- 11:16might even frustrate you. And yes, some will
- 11:19surprise you the way that they point you back
- 11:22to Christ. And although I think it's great to
- 11:26also mention about new relationships ending,
- 11:29And so reasons is seasons and lifetimes. And
- 11:31so we were not meant to be in community forever.
- 11:35And so it's about being so thankful that friendships
- 11:38end, that new relationships can start and not
- 11:42just staying where God doesn't want you to be.
- 11:44And so he's given you every sign and you don't
- 11:46know how to end that relationship or walk away
- 11:48from that friendship. And he's like, I will push
- 11:50you out. No, like stop going there and you know
- 11:55that you're supposed to do that and you're just
- 11:57like, but you know, like we've been together
- 11:59for so long and you know, we've had a friendship
- 12:02for, you know, 20 years or whatever. And he's
- 12:04like, no, that season's done. I need you to move
- 12:07on. And so I think that him pushing us outdoors,
- 12:12again, not turning back, let's not be like a
- 12:15lot's wife and turn back into a situation that
- 12:17we were meant to just walk through. Let's not
- 12:19get stuck in relationships that we don't need
- 12:22to be in any longer and saying goodbye. Because
- 12:25we have Proverbs 27, 17 that says, iron sharpens
- 12:29iron. So no one person sharpens another and sharpening
- 12:32isn't smooth, it's friction. That means that
- 12:36some people in your new season might rub you
- 12:38the wrong way at first But they may also be a
- 12:42part of how God is shaping your character And
- 12:45so that person that you don't see eye -to -eye
- 12:47on that person that you is completely different
- 12:50than you How is God going to use this relationship
- 12:54to fine -tune? Your irritations, how is he going
- 12:58to fine -tune your speech your communication?
- 13:01How you look at other people? How is He sharpening
- 13:05you in every relationship that you're in? And
- 13:09so instead of asking, do I like this person?
- 13:13Try asking, what is God trying to teach me through
- 13:16this person? And so I just think it's so exciting.
- 13:20And again, yet scary whenever relationships end,
- 13:24when new relationships begin, and how relationships
- 13:27that can last the test of time just continue
- 13:30and continue to continue. And just putting God
- 13:33in every aspect of our lives, every friendship,
- 13:37every relationship, every business meeting, every
- 13:40encounter. He really needs to be our focus. And
- 13:44how is this relationship glorifying God? Is it
- 13:47not glorifying God? Am I in this relationship
- 13:49and I'm doing, am I hearing things that I'm not
- 13:52supposed to be hearing? Am I settling for talk
- 13:56that is not glorifying to God? And so just looking
- 13:59at every relationship and saying, hey, is this
- 14:03where I'm meant to be? Is this not where I'm
- 14:04meant to be? And just growing and maturing and
- 14:06knowing that He is pushing you outdoors and out
- 14:09of relationships, pushing you into new ones.
- 14:11And we have to know and to trust. that he is
- 14:15up to something. And that should just make you
- 14:17smile and be excited for new beginnings. And
- 14:21so point four, predictability in God and unpredictable
- 14:27paths. And so we have a predictable God, but
- 14:29we have unpredictable paths. And so God's character
- 14:32is steady, but his methods will really keep you
- 14:35on our toes. And so we have Hebrews 13, eight
- 14:37that says, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday
- 14:40and today and forever. But if you look at the
- 14:43scripture, the way that he leads people's change
- 14:47from story to story. And so Noah got instructions
- 14:50for the ark. Abraham got told, go to the land
- 14:54and I will show you. Moses got a burning bush.
- 14:59Joshua got marching orders around Jericho. And
- 15:02they were all different, but they all pointed
- 15:05to the same faithful God. And so in our new start,
- 15:09don't be surprised if God's leading feels a little
- 15:13different than it has before. Don't allow your
- 15:16expectations of what he did in your old season
- 15:18to be in your new season. And so he leads differently
- 15:22for different people in different ways. And so
- 15:25in your new start, don't be surprised if God
- 15:27leads feels a little different than it has before.
- 15:30The method may change, but the mission knowing
- 15:32him and making him known never does. And so that's
- 15:38the exciting part is that as we change, as we
- 15:40mature, what used to get our attention before
- 15:43may not get our attention now. And so he knows
- 15:46us, he formed us, he knows exactly what we need,
- 15:50exactly whenever we need it, whether we want
- 15:51to admit it to her or not. But in that same respect,
- 15:54he is saying, okay, so I know that she's not
- 15:57gonna learn this way again. And so I'm gonna
- 15:58do it this way. She's really hard -headed or
- 16:01he's really hard -headed. He's not getting the
- 16:03point. I'm gonna change my method. And so always
- 16:06being aware that he is guiding us. He is teaching
- 16:08us. He is doing all the things necessary to get
- 16:11our attention and to mold us. And so point five,
- 16:16anchored in hope. And so Hebrews 6 19 says, this
- 16:20hope we have as an anchor on our soul, a hope
- 16:24both sure and reliable. The anchor doesn't stop
- 16:27with waves from coming. It just keeps the boat
- 16:30from drifting when they do. In the same way,
- 16:33God doesn't promise us a storm -free life, especially
- 16:37in a season of change, but He does promise to
- 16:39hold on to us, hold us steady. And so when things
- 16:43feel unpredictable, that's when the anchor matters
- 16:47the most. If your anchor is in people, grades,
- 16:51money, approval, you'll drift when the moment
- 16:55that water gets rough. But if our anchor's in
- 16:58Christ, you're steady even when the waves get
- 17:01taller than you. And just like the song oceans,
- 17:04my head is above water. The waves came over me,
- 17:09but I never drowned because you were there. You
- 17:12were keeping me afloat. And so we want to encourage
- 17:18you to grab your phone, to grab a notebook, or
- 17:21even grab your notes app. And I'm gonna give
- 17:23you some quick three prompts that I want you
- 17:25to answer honestly. One, one thing I'm excited
- 17:30about in this new season is what? What are you
- 17:32excited for? What is it? And leave those things,
- 17:36these are between you and God and just for you
- 17:38to reflect on. But if you wanna leave it in the
- 17:40comment section, leave it in the comments. Number
- 17:43two, what's one thing that makes you nervous
- 17:46about your new start? What is it? Is it like
- 17:51I don't know the plan. I don't know the GPS I
- 17:53don't know where he's heading. I don't know where
- 17:55I don't know where I'm going Three one thing
- 17:59I'm trusting God for is And so write those down
- 18:06Listen for what God is saying write down what's
- 18:09on your heart and take those to God And like
- 18:12I said, you know leave those in the comments.
- 18:14Let's start a conversation. Let's start a community
- 18:16and let's see what people are thinking And if
- 18:19you're bold enough, post the answers and with
- 18:21the hashtag unshaken beginnings. And we'll be
- 18:25checking on you. We'll be cheering you on. And
- 18:27so we are meant for community. And so we hope
- 18:29that this message inspires you to be unshaken
- 18:34in the new episode that God has you in, the new
- 18:37season that he has you in. And so we are all
- 18:39walking through this faith journey together and
- 18:41we are better. together then separated and so
- 18:45we are hoping and just praying for our listeners
- 18:49that They are looking up whenever they are in
- 18:53doubt and so You know whenever I was younger
- 18:57I remember starting a new school feeling like
- 18:59I was stepping into a roller coaster and please
- 19:01know that I do not like roller coasters that
- 19:04I That I didn't want to go on the first hill
- 19:07was exciting and then you drop and then you twist
- 19:09and you turn and you're and you're not in control.
- 19:13And that's the crazy part. Once the ride was
- 19:15over, you realize that holding on tight and trusting
- 19:18the safety of the track is what got you through.
- 19:22And life with God in a new season is a little
- 19:25like that. The track is His plan, the safety
- 19:28bar is His word, and the job is to hold on even
- 19:32when you can't see the next turn. And please
- 19:35know that A lot of times my knuckles are so white
- 19:39that we are just walking and just smiling and
- 19:42just knowing that He has a way whenever we do
- 19:45not see a way. And so this week I want to do
- 19:49one small thing that shows that you're trusting
- 19:51God in your new start. Maybe it's joining a Bible
- 19:54study. Maybe it's introducing yourself to the
- 19:56person that you've been too nervous to talk to.
- 19:58Maybe it's finally letting go of something that
- 20:01you've been trying to control. And so let's pray
- 20:04for this upcoming week. And so dear Lord, thank
- 20:06you so much for these listeners. Thank you so
- 20:07much for the ability to spread your word. Thank
- 20:10you for every listener stepping into something
- 20:12new. Give them encourage whenever they feel shaky,
- 20:16gratitude whenever they feel blessed and trust
- 20:19when they feel unsure. Help them remember that
- 20:23you are our anchor, their guide, their consuming
- 20:26fire and make them unshaken in this season. Thank
- 20:29you for all that you do. In Jesus' name we pray.
- 20:32Amen. And so if you can go back through and add
- 20:37all your personal stories or comments, we really
- 20:41appreciate it. And so we hope that you are enjoying
- 20:44these podcasts. Please like, subscribe, share
- 20:48these to help. We are not going to be fishers
- 20:51of men. We want to be fishers of men and not
- 20:53watchers of the aquarium. And so it's about growing
- 20:55people that don't know Jesus and just sharing
- 20:57with someone that is going through a new experience.
- 21:00We hope that this message encouraged you and
- 21:02that we will see you guys back here next week.
- 21:04Have a great week. We love you guys. Bye.
