- 1:33SPEAKER_09: Hey, how you doing?
- 1:34SPEAKER_09: And with Lexi.
- 1:35SPEAKER_07: Hello.
- 1:37SPEAKER_09: Well, hi, Lexi.
- 1:38SPEAKER_09: Good to see you.
- 1:39SPEAKER_09: How you doing?
- 1:39SPEAKER_09: How you been?
- 1:40SPEAKER_07: I've been good.
- 1:42SPEAKER_07: You know, we just had a little time where life happened, and I had to step away to get a handle on life.
- 1:50SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 1:51SPEAKER_09: Well, that happens sometimes.
- 1:53SPEAKER_09: Good to see you this week.
- 1:54SPEAKER_11: And then, Bob, the craziest thing happened.
- 1:57SPEAKER_11: I bumped into Lexi on a cruise ship.
- 2:00SPEAKER_11: Can you can you believe this one?
- 2:02SPEAKER_11: No.
- 2:02SPEAKER_11: Just just walking walking around the deck with an ice cream cone in my hand, and there's Lexi.
- 2:08SPEAKER_09: What are you doing bumping into people on cruise ships, Greg?
- 2:11SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 2:11SPEAKER_07: I think it's the best place to bump into somebody.
- 2:14SPEAKER_09: And as big as those daggum ships are, you gotta that's cool.
- 2:18SPEAKER_09: Sure, you had a good time.
- 2:19SPEAKER_11: We did.
- 2:19SPEAKER_11: We absolutely did.
- 2:20SPEAKER_09: Hey, in this week's episode, our friend Amanda joins us to do an in-depth recap of D23 highlights in the race report spotlight.

- 3:38SPEAKER_08: We went to Hong Kong and we did a Hong Kong Patreon prize.
- 3:43SPEAKER_08: And I know we didn't announce in the last episode, and I've already been in contact, but Ashley M, Lauren P, and Holly M are our three winners for those uh Mickey Hong Kong Disneyland exclusive ears pins.
- 3:59SPEAKER_08: And um, another person is getting a uh world of frozen that says Hong Kong Disneyland mug, which will be um shipped out later this week.
- 4:09SPEAKER_08: I will message you guys and let you know.
- 4:12SPEAKER_08: But congratulations and thank you so much for being a part of our family.

- 4:18SPEAKER_11: The Rise Around Podcast is sponsored by our wonderful friends over at Magic Bound Travel.
- 4:23SPEAKER_11: And you know, Bob, you mentioned it.
- 4:24SPEAKER_11: We're gonna have Amanda on here in just a little bit to chat all things D23.
- 4:29SPEAKER_11: And if you were watching anything from the parks panel on Saturday night and you got excited about, I guess, the updates or lack of updates uh that are coming to coming attractions at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and you want to be able to experience them once they do finally open.
- 4:48SPEAKER_11: Magic Bound is your place to get all of those travel arrangements made.
- 4:52SPEAKER_11: So head over to MagicBoundTravel.com to get your free no obligation quote.
- 4:59SPEAKER_09: All right, thank you very much.
- 5:01SPEAKER_09: Let us do as we always do, take a look at the training schedule.
- 5:05SPEAKER_09: Wine and dine nine weeks away.
- 5:08SPEAKER_09: We're down to single digits.
- 5:10SPEAKER_09: I I will always remember the excitement of my first wine and dine and how as it started getting closer, I hope some of our friends are experiencing that.
- 5:20SPEAKER_09: You only get to do it once.
- 5:22SPEAKER_09: We are in training week number nine, being nine weeks away, and the distance this weekend is three miles with a magic mile.
- 5:33SPEAKER_09: So total of three, magic mile is one of them.
- 5:37SPEAKER_09: Important note advanced dining reservations are coming up if you are heading to wine and dine.
- 5:44SPEAKER_09: You will be 60 days out from expo day on August 23rd.
- 5:52SPEAKER_09: So you can kind of back yourself up if you're coming in a day early, if you're coming in on the Friday.
- 5:57SPEAKER_09: But if you're going in on Thursday of Expo Day, then August 23rd begins your advanced dining reservation window.
- 6:09SPEAKER_09: Marathon weekend, 20 weeks away.
- 6:13SPEAKER_09: Training week number eight.
- 6:16SPEAKER_09: We're getting there.
- 6:17SPEAKER_09: The long run this weekend.
- 6:20SPEAKER_09: If you're doing goofy, dopey, or the marathon, is nine miles.
- 6:28SPEAKER_09: If you're new to this, if this is your first time through, you're going, oh, nine miles.
- 6:34SPEAKER_09: That's long.
- 6:37SPEAKER_09: But in about six or eight weeks, you're going to look back and go, oh, nine miles, that's nothing.
- 6:45SPEAKER_09: So that's where we are.
- 6:46SPEAKER_09: Hey, I want to talk about a couple of other non-run Disney events, several several of them local to the Florida area, but let's start with Bird in Hand.
- 6:58SPEAKER_09: Bird in Hand now, just three weeks away, 22 days.
- 7:02SPEAKER_09: Uh, our dinner is going very well.
- 7:05SPEAKER_09: The last I looked, we had 12 spots left.
- 7:11SPEAKER_09: But uh, Greg, John, any updates on reservations for the dinner at uh where's that, Hershey Farms, I believe?
- 7:19SPEAKER_11: Yes, uh Hershey Farms.
- 7:20SPEAKER_11: It is a Schmorgesborg that is actually a lot closer to all of the race festivities.
- 7:26SPEAKER_11: So while we're not going to Shady Maple this time around, it will be very close.
- 7:31SPEAKER_11: Uh I already Google mapped it.
- 7:32SPEAKER_11: It is a less than 10-minute drive from the uh the festival or the picnic area of the race and from the uh the hotel block that we have at the uh True by Hilton uh in Lancaster, it's like a seven or eight-minute drive or something like that.
- 7:49SPEAKER_11: So very, very close to the city.
- 7:50SPEAKER_11: Oh, so it's west, okay.
- 7:51SPEAKER_11: Yeah, uh to all of the um to all the hotels and Dutch Wonderland and the outlet shopping.
- 7:58SPEAKER_11: So um you'll have plenty of time to uh you know have other activities while you wait for the dinner post-race.
- 8:05SPEAKER_11: Um, but I mean the thing is, I I I think, you know, Bob, I know you said 12 more spots, but in theory, I think we can let the restaurant know up until a little bit beforehand what our final count is.
- 8:16SPEAKER_11: So if you are still interested in that, please let us know and we will let we will let the restaurant know.
- 8:23SPEAKER_11: So what we are just asking is please submit your payment for that dinner no later than Friday, September 4th.
- 8:32SPEAKER_11: We have it pinned uh to the features section in the Facebook group.
- 8:36SPEAKER_11: Uh, I'm sure we can post it a few more times uh if needed.
- 8:40SPEAKER_11: I it's also posted in the Galloway customized uh training group as well too.
- 8:45SPEAKER_11: So you can always search for it in there as well.
- 8:47SPEAKER_11: But yeah, uh if you can get that submitted to us by the fourth, and then that way, right beforehand, we can let the restaurant know.
- 8:53SPEAKER_11: And um, we'll be able to all be seated together, which is gonna be great.
- 8:57SPEAKER_11: So looking forward to a nice cap off to a wonderful Run Disney adjacent weekend in Burdenham, Pennsylvania.
- 9:05SPEAKER_14: Just a quick one.
- 9:06SPEAKER_14: Uh the price you have up there is for adults we have, but if you are bringing a child, let us know.
- 9:12SPEAKER_14: I will send you the link for the child.
- 9:16SPEAKER_14: I think it's I think I I think it was$23 for a child.
- 9:20SPEAKER_14: So if you're bringing a child, just send us a link.
- 9:23SPEAKER_14: What's a child, John?
- 9:24SPEAKER_09: 12 and under or what?
- 9:26SPEAKER_14: I'm I'm guessing.
- 9:27SPEAKER_11: I believe uh I I want to say I think it was 14.
- 9:30SPEAKER_11: Oh wow.
- 9:31SPEAKER_11: I I I think I think it was three three to fourteen or or three to twelve.
- 9:35SPEAKER_11: Um but hey, but hey John, can you do me a favor?
- 9:38SPEAKER_11: Can can you send me that child link so I can uh so I can pay for Riley?
- 9:41SPEAKER_11: All right, I appreciate that.
- 9:42SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 9:43SPEAKER_09: I'm thinking back many, many years.
- 9:45SPEAKER_09: I could have made him regret that 14-year-old thing when he was a 14-year-old.
- 9:50SPEAKER_11: I mean, at least it's better than Disney when Disney considers you adult at what is it, 10 years old.
- 9:54SPEAKER_11: Oh gosh, it's crazy.
- 9:56SPEAKER_09: But yeah, it is.
- 9:58SPEAKER_09: But I know there's a there's probably a little disappointment of not getting to Shady Maples, but I gotta tell you, this place uh at Hershey Farms looks really nice.
- 10:07SPEAKER_09: And it wouldn't surprise me if a year from now we're going, oh boy, we're going back to Hershey Farms.
- 10:14SPEAKER_09: So let's see how it goes.
- 10:15SPEAKER_09: I'm excited about it.
- 10:16SPEAKER_09: Looking forward to seeing a whole lot of friends that weekend.
- 10:18SPEAKER_09: Let me go over a couple other races now.
- 10:20SPEAKER_09: Some of these are uh like they're all in Florida, as a matter of fact.
- 10:25SPEAKER_09: There's one coming up in 30 days, that's the Miles to Go 5K in Orlando.
- 10:33SPEAKER_09: That's coming up on the 19th of September.
- 10:37SPEAKER_09: If you recall back in episode 248, we talked about this charity, the Miles to Go charity, where they provide necessary and helpful items for folks who are down on their lock, homeless, uh having a hard time, instead of just donating cash.
- 10:55SPEAKER_09: It was Miles who came up with the idea of giving something.
- 11:00SPEAKER_09: Now, there is a team rise and run being organized for this event.
- 11:06SPEAKER_09: There is a discount code.
- 11:09SPEAKER_09: If you're in the Orlando area, the discount code is Rise and Run, all one word.
- 11:14SPEAKER_09: If we can get 10 team members by the 20th of August, which I realize is today.
- 11:23SPEAKER_09: Okay, but if we can get 10 team members by today, then it's the last day to get a logo on the team race shirt.
- 11:31SPEAKER_09: So that would be neat.
- 11:32SPEAKER_09: Now I'm not going out there, but it I think it's fun.
- 11:35SPEAKER_09: And if you can do that, that'd be cool.
- 11:37SPEAKER_09: Space Coast is coming up, 95 days till Space Coast.
- 11:41SPEAKER_09: We will have a meetup.
- 11:42SPEAKER_09: Uh, I'm going to suggest, this is not final yet.
- 11:45SPEAKER_09: I'll put it on the Facebook page when it is, but I'm going to suggest 3 p.m.
- 11:50SPEAKER_09: Saturday at the Village Idiot.
- 11:52SPEAKER_09: That's right.
- 11:52SPEAKER_09: They named a bar and grill for me in the Cocoa area.
- 11:57SPEAKER_09: I think that's very nice.
- 11:58SPEAKER_09: It's actually right across the street from where they have the expo.
- 12:02SPEAKER_09: Donna Weekend still quite a ways off.
- 12:05SPEAKER_09: The team moving for Jeff Galloway.
- 12:07SPEAKER_09: I saw that team had 30 some odd members, not including the 10 members of Team Rise and Run who are still listed as Team Rise and Run.
- 12:15SPEAKER_09: And I'm hoping they're going to move us to Team Moving for Jeff Galloway.
- 12:20SPEAKER_09: That'll put the Jeff team right up there towards the top in total number of runners.
- 12:29SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 12:30SPEAKER_09: So that's that's the Run Disney schedule and the non-run Disney schedule.
- 12:35SPEAKER_09: Of course, all of that takes training.
- 12:37SPEAKER_09: Any updates, my friends.
- 12:39SPEAKER_09: Updates on training we want to talk about.
- 12:41SPEAKER_07: I'll go, because you know, I haven't talked in a long time.
- 12:45SPEAKER_07: Um so I signed up for the 5k and the half at marathon weekend.
- 12:53SPEAKER_07: So I am just starting to get into that mindset of doing races again because I haven't run a half marathon in four years, three years.
- 13:09SPEAKER_07: Um, it's been a minute.
- 13:11SPEAKER_07: And um yeah, so that's what I've been working on.
- 13:16SPEAKER_07: I've been going to the gym and seeing a personal trainer.
- 13:21SPEAKER_07: And Scooby and I have been going on hikes because um part of the reason why I had to step away is is because Scooby had to have surgery and then he had to have an additional surgery.
- 13:31SPEAKER_07: So um we have been doing rehab and going on hikes.
- 13:35SPEAKER_07: We'd actually did two miles today.
- 13:39SPEAKER_07: So yeah, that's my little training update.
- 13:43SPEAKER_14: I was training for bird in hand this weekend.
- 13:46SPEAKER_14: Big advice when you get to mile 10, don't chow down Doritas ice.
- 13:53SPEAKER_14: Don't scarf it down, John.
- 13:55SPEAKER_14: Brain freeze is a killer.
- 13:58SPEAKER_14: Go easy, pace yourself.
- 14:00SPEAKER_14: Paste yourself.
- 14:02SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 14:02SPEAKER_14: I know it's gonna be hot, just don't, because that that stopped me in my tracks this weekend.
- 14:07SPEAKER_14: I was like, oh my god, my eyes are burning, my head is gonna explode.
- 14:11SPEAKER_14: Like someone like hit me across the head with a baseball bat.
- 14:15SPEAKER_11: Oh no.
- 14:15SPEAKER_11: You know, John, I did have a question about your readers experience.
- 14:20SPEAKER_11: What flavor did you get again?
- 14:22SPEAKER_14: I said, give me a mango pineapple.
- 14:25SPEAKER_14: So I asked them to do a half half cup, half and half.
- 14:29SPEAKER_14: So they they'll mix anything you want, any flavors you want.
- 14:33SPEAKER_11: Got it.
- 14:33SPEAKER_11: Okay, because I got confused because I all I saw was pineapple, and then when I saw it, I was like, oh, it looked like the mango color.
- 14:40SPEAKER_11: So I got very confused, but but I like that.
- 14:42SPEAKER_11: It's almost like a pog juice situation but with with with Rita's.
- 14:47SPEAKER_11: All right, that's a good call by you.
- 14:48SPEAKER_11: Wait, wait to go.
- 14:49SPEAKER_11: But yeah, I mean, I I I don't know if you and I are gonna run together during Burden Hand, John, but uh if we do end up next to each other, I will make sure.
- 14:57SPEAKER_11: Now, thankfully the cup is a lot smaller.
- 14:59SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 14:59SPEAKER_11: Um, at Burden Hand, but I'll make sure that you don't have a repeat performance of that.
- 15:03SPEAKER_14: You'll be carrying me back.
- 15:07SPEAKER_09: The last three miles.
- 15:08SPEAKER_09: I'll pick you up when I come by.
- 15:12SPEAKER_09: Um I'm happy with training.
- 15:14SPEAKER_09: Uh I have stayed consistent.
- 15:17SPEAKER_09: I've talked about this a bunch, my friends.
- 15:19SPEAKER_09: I'm I don't have to tell you it's hot down here.
- 15:21SPEAKER_09: You know that it's hot in Florida.
- 15:23SPEAKER_09: I mean, you've been here before.
- 15:25SPEAKER_09: Uh and it's this is not the only place that it's hot.
- 15:28SPEAKER_09: It's it's steamy hot through most of the Gulf Coast around the USA.
- 15:34SPEAKER_09: And it's hot in other places.
- 15:36SPEAKER_09: There are some dew points outside of Florida that are getting up there.
- 15:40SPEAKER_09: Uh consistency is the key right now.
- 15:45SPEAKER_09: Stay with your training.
- 15:46SPEAKER_09: Do not worry about your times.
- 15:48SPEAKER_09: Just get out there.
- 15:49SPEAKER_09: You are building strength, you are building endurance.
- 15:53SPEAKER_09: And when we do get back to cooler temperatures, which in our case December, maybe, I don't know.
- 16:00SPEAKER_09: But uh it's going to it's going to pay off.
- 16:04SPEAKER_09: If you've done it before, you know what I'm talking about.
- 16:07SPEAKER_09: If you haven't done it before, wait and see.
- 16:11SPEAKER_09: It will work.
- 16:12SPEAKER_09: Now, I made a post on Facebook.
- 16:14SPEAKER_09: John has been in contact with the folks who make this item called a hydra patch.
- 16:21SPEAKER_09: And he was able to secure a couple of them, sent me one.
- 16:25SPEAKER_09: I used it this weekend.
- 16:27SPEAKER_09: I had a 12-mile run when I began the feels like temperature, I don't remember exactly, was probably around 85, 87, something like that.
- 16:38SPEAKER_09: And to be honest, the first couple miles weren't bad because I was in a shaded area, it felt okay.
- 16:43SPEAKER_09: But before too long, it got very warm, then the sun comes up.
- 16:48SPEAKER_09: I am the world's worst when it comes to taking in proper nutrition and hydration.
- 16:56SPEAKER_09: I know what to do, I read about it, I talk about what to do.
- 17:03SPEAKER_09: I'm bad about it.
- 17:05SPEAKER_09: So I went out, I put this hydration patch on before I left, and I took for a 12-mile run, I took a pack of run gum, and I took a couple of those uh Stroopwaffle type things that we get in the uh blue box at the end of the Disney runs, you know, those waffle things.
- 17:26SPEAKER_14: Oh, this probably stale now, right?
- 17:28SPEAKER_09: Uh you know, whatever.
- 17:31SPEAKER_09: And then I dip them in the cheese while I'm running.
- 17:33SPEAKER_09: No, I don't.
- 17:35SPEAKER_09: No, I don't do that.
- 17:37SPEAKER_09: Um I took those with me, but I'll tell you what, I didn't use, I didn't eat either one because I don't feel like it.
- 17:43SPEAKER_09: I don't feel like eating those things when I'm running.
- 17:46SPEAKER_09: I'm not a fan of gels.
- 17:48SPEAKER_09: I'm pretty stubborn.
- 17:49SPEAKER_09: Um nevertheless, I did not, I I did go into an area, I have a it's a six-mile loop, and there are two water fountains on the well, it's kind of an out and back, but there are two water fountains.
- 18:03SPEAKER_09: So in the six-mile journey, I passed the water fountains four times.
- 18:07SPEAKER_09: So I was able to get water there.
- 18:10SPEAKER_09: 12 miles, do it twice.
- 18:13SPEAKER_09: I go by the water a total of eight times.
- 18:16SPEAKER_09: So I had I had my hydration was okay, but it was only water.
- 18:21SPEAKER_09: I didn't have any electrolyte solution or anything with me, just the hydropatch, which is supposed to provide electrolytes, vitamins, and other nutrients.
- 18:34SPEAKER_09: I felt pretty good on this run.
- 18:36SPEAKER_09: Here's an observation, friends, if you're getting into the long runs.
- 18:39SPEAKER_09: I find that as the distance of my runs go up, I feel great at last week's distance.
- 18:49SPEAKER_09: Like, for instance, this week's distance was 12.
- 18:52SPEAKER_09: Two weeks ago it was 10.
- 18:53SPEAKER_09: I hit 10, I felt fine.
- 18:55SPEAKER_09: Two weeks ago, I hit eight, I felt fine.
- 18:57SPEAKER_09: I kind of build that way.
- 18:59SPEAKER_09: 10 to 12, I kind of slowed down.
- 19:02SPEAKER_09: Um, I didn't expect to feel any effects from the hydro patch during the running, and I don't think I did.
- 19:10SPEAKER_09: It's so hard.
- 19:11SPEAKER_09: You can't do a study because you you you have no control group when you're the only person doing it.
- 19:20SPEAKER_09: I can't run with it and not run with it at the same time.
- 19:24SPEAKER_09: But I I did feel better than I usually do, but that just could be because I've been consistent in my training.
- 19:32SPEAKER_09: The big plus for me came when I got back home.
- 19:36SPEAKER_09: In previous years, when my training mile starts to get into double digits in this heat, I can finish them, but there have been times during the training and especially afterwards where I just feel terrible.
- 19:52SPEAKER_09: Uh I would get home and I would feel previously I would feel awful for the rest of the day.
- 19:59SPEAKER_09: I remember on the 10 miler two weeks ago, I got home.
- 20:02SPEAKER_09: I didn't feel too too horribly bad, but I spent the next day, I spent the rest of the day grabbing a Coca-Cola, an electrolyte drink, uh, some orange juice, lots of I kept chasing something I needed.
- 20:17SPEAKER_09: I finished this 12 miles, I felt great.
- 20:20SPEAKER_09: I I really I felt really good.
- 20:23SPEAKER_09: Uh I I was tired, of course, but my it's a it's a this is a small study.
- 20:32SPEAKER_09: One person, one training event, one day, but I'm gonna get more of these things.
- 20:38SPEAKER_09: Now the downside, they're not cheap.
- 20:41SPEAKER_09: Okay, they are they are relatively expensive.
- 20:45SPEAKER_09: A box of three costs$39.
- 20:49SPEAKER_09: I've been talking with my buddy John after and and the rest of my friends here.
- 20:54SPEAKER_09: After you have an opportunity to try them, if you decide they're for you also, maybe we can order one of the bigger boxes.
- 21:00SPEAKER_09: You can get them down to eight or ten dollars a piece if you order in sufficient quantity.
- 21:06SPEAKER_09: Uh but I'm definitely going to try them again.
- 21:10SPEAKER_09: Now, John approached the folks and asked them if they wanted to join us, and they got all excited and said, Yeah, we really do.
- 21:16SPEAKER_09: We want to join you in 2027.
- 21:21SPEAKER_14: Maybe they got new stuff coming out.
- 21:23SPEAKER_09: They want to I think no, I think what it is, it's I think they're a little nervous about getting on this uh you know uh this legendary high-end pro uh podcast, and they yeah, they probably want to rehearse and be ready next.
- 21:36SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 21:37SPEAKER_09: When did they talk?
- 21:38SPEAKER_14: They didn't even give you a time, but no, they they say give us give us give us some dates.
- 21:43SPEAKER_14: I'm like, yeah, I we're we're not even scheduled out for the rest of 2026.
- 21:48SPEAKER_09: And yeah.
- 21:49SPEAKER_09: Oh heck, we feel we're we're pretty excited when we're scheduled three weeks out, and they want us to push the 27.
- 21:55SPEAKER_09: So so here, look, let me go to the bottom line again.
- 21:58SPEAKER_09: It's called Hydro Patch.
- 22:00SPEAKER_09: H Y D R A P A T C H you can find them online, do a Google.
- 22:03SPEAKER_09: They have their own site.
- 22:06SPEAKER_09: Like I said, they're not cheap.
- 22:09SPEAKER_09: But uh after one try, I'm going to I'm going to do them again.
- 22:15SPEAKER_09: I I'm going to get them.
- 22:16SPEAKER_09: I got a 14 miler coming up, not this Saturday, but next Saturday.
- 22:20SPEAKER_09: I got bird in hand.
- 22:22SPEAKER_09: I would like to have a patch for each one of those.
- 22:24SPEAKER_09: And then we'll see what we do from there.
- 22:26SPEAKER_14: I'll be trying my I was going to use it last week too, Bob, but uh it was cool.
- 22:30SPEAKER_14: So they let me not use it for a cool run.
- 22:33SPEAKER_14: I mean, when it's when you're starting in the 70s, I figured let me just, you know, don't want to get a false positive out of it, let's say.
- 22:41SPEAKER_14: So hopefully, well, not I not hopefully that the weather's warmer, but when the weather's warmer, I'm gonna give mine a mine a try.
- 22:47SPEAKER_09: Hopefully it's 103.
- 22:48SPEAKER_14: I can give them a real test, John.
- 22:50SPEAKER_14: 103?
- 22:51SPEAKER_14: I don't know about that, Bob.
- 22:52SPEAKER_09: But even yeah, but I even think uh heading to bird in hand, if the weather is as nice as it has been the last couple years I've been up there.
- 23:03SPEAKER_14: Oh, it's been warm.
- 23:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:05SPEAKER_09: Well, see, it's all relative, Jim.
- 23:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, all relative, exactly.
- 23:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_09: Uh well, for us it was Greg, right?
- 23:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 23:12SPEAKER_11: No, I mean, I remember I think it was two years ago they said it was like the third hottest bird in hand on record or something like that.
- 23:18SPEAKER_11: But again, no, you're absolutely right, Bob.
- 23:19SPEAKER_11: It's very relative that you know you're gonna be you're gonna be breezing through it.
- 23:22SPEAKER_11: You're not even gonna need those sprinklers at the end.
- 23:26SPEAKER_09: But yeah, I'm I'm optimistic enough about it to give it a shot.
- 23:31SPEAKER_09: Uh no uh no affiliation here, no, we're not making any money on anything.
- 23:36SPEAKER_09: I just got a product, I like it, I think it works, it is expensive.
- 23:42SPEAKER_09: And I'm still that's my that's my review at this point.
- 23:47SPEAKER_09: Got more to I think I got more to check on.
- 23:49SPEAKER_09: But one one training event, one very hot day, and I think it was a success.
- 23:55SPEAKER_11: Speaking of products that you like, uh there's two products I want to talk about real quick.
- 23:59SPEAKER_11: And the first is uh I'm gonna direct this one to my buddy Jack.
- 24:05SPEAKER_11: You know, Bobby, you were talking about the uh honey stinger waffles and such.
- 24:09SPEAKER_11: I tried a new flavor on my run this weekend, and I gotta admit, it was probably the best honey stinger waffle I've ever had.
- 24:18SPEAKER_11: Jack, are you ready for this?
- 24:20SPEAKER_08: I already know where it's going now.
- 24:22SPEAKER_09: Peanut butter and jelly.
- 24:23SPEAKER_11: Peanut butter and jelly.
- 24:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, baby.
- 24:26SPEAKER_11: And I bought a box of them in uh for loopy looper, never had to touch it because there was so much other good stuff, and I bit into this thing, and I was pleasantly surprised.
- 24:37SPEAKER_11: Like, I got really excited for the cookies and cream one, and I was really disappointed in that.
- 24:41SPEAKER_11: Like, I it was a little too chocolatey for me, but this chef's kiss, it was it was great.
- 24:48SPEAKER_11: So, Jack, this could be your foray into enjoying a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in your adult life here.
- 24:56SPEAKER_08: I would consider it if it was like a box for free at Run Disney.
- 25:01SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 25:02SPEAKER_11: Well, when I see you next at Marathon Weekend, I will I will hold on to one for you.
- 25:06SPEAKER_11: Just you know, you know, may maybe try that the meetup or something like that.
- 25:10SPEAKER_11: Obviously, nothing nothing new on race days.
- 25:12SPEAKER_14: It could be a Patreon exclusive uh video.
- 25:14SPEAKER_11: There we I love that idea, John.
- 25:16SPEAKER_11: There we go.
- 25:16SPEAKER_11: Jack, write that one down.
- 25:18SPEAKER_05: Oh for sure.
- 25:19SPEAKER_11: But the other one, uh the other product that I want to talk about, again, no sponsorships or affiliates or anything like that.
- 25:25SPEAKER_11: Um, I have been looking for something in terms of liquid fueling because uh, you know, I was telling Coach Twiggs about this, you know, when I started with him a couple of years ago, you know, all the rage was talking about tailwind.
- 25:38SPEAKER_11: And it's how you like you know you're getting your hydration and you're getting your carb intake, and that thing just wrecked my stomach.
- 25:46SPEAKER_11: Every long run that I came back from after, you know, pretty decent mileage, it just never set well with me, and I felt terrible afterwards.
- 25:55SPEAKER_11: So I was asking Coach you know for some new potential alternatives, and he recommended, and then I remember this product because I know our friend Kristen, uh Runfit Mama, she's also talked about this product as well, and that is Scratch High Carp.
- 26:12SPEAKER_11: And they do it in two different flavors.
- 26:16SPEAKER_11: I think it's lemon lime and strawberry.
- 26:19SPEAKER_11: And you I think you only need like a minimum of like eight ounces of water, but I used a couple of those during uh during loopy looper, and then I also used one right before my speed work this weekend, and my legs have felt fantastic during said runs and then in terms of recovery, so it it really has helped me.
- 26:42SPEAKER_11: So if you are you know trying to you know kill bird two birds with one stone in terms of hydration and carb, and you've had trouble in the past, definitely give scratch high carb a try.
- 26:53SPEAKER_11: Now, again, I know it might not be the best thing for everybody, but if you're again you're in the market for something, maybe give that a try.
- 26:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's scratch is spelled with a K, right?
- 27:02SPEAKER_09: That's correct.
- 27:02SPEAKER_09: Yes, yes.
- 27:03SPEAKER_09: And uh I see that Jack wants to say something.
- 27:06SPEAKER_09: She probably wants to ask you if they have a pickle flavor.
- 27:09SPEAKER_08: Oh gosh, no.
- 27:10SPEAKER_08: That sounds worse than Keith.
- 27:12SPEAKER_09: That was Alicia.
- 27:13SPEAKER_11: That was Alicia, yeah.
- 27:15SPEAKER_09: I know, I know.
- 27:15SPEAKER_09: I'm messing with Jack, though.
- 27:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah, go go check out her her reel that she posted the other week of her review of the Grillos uh pickled flavored IV.
- 27:24SPEAKER_11: Uh, I I need to get my hands on that too.
- 27:25SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I tell you, side note, Grillo's is like the hottest thing out right now.
- 27:32SPEAKER_14: My son works at the shop, right?
- 27:33SPEAKER_14: He goes, he can't keep them on the shelf.
- 27:35SPEAKER_14: They're going off the shelf.
- 27:36SPEAKER_14: Like Grillos is really promoting themselves.
- 27:39SPEAKER_09: It's not like they're brand new.
- 27:40SPEAKER_09: I'm I'm I don't know.
- 27:41SPEAKER_14: They're just like hot now, he said.
- 27:43SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 27:45SPEAKER_09: They've done something right in the marketing world.
- 27:47SPEAKER_09: Good for them.
- 27:48SPEAKER_09: It's a good pickle.
- 27:49SPEAKER_09: It's a good pickle.
- 27:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:51SPEAKER_08: Well, I just want to put this out there.
- 27:53SPEAKER_08: I know our runs are getting a lot longer, and um, and soon for a lot of people, it's gonna be in those double double digits in the heat.
- 28:01SPEAKER_08: And it's not, it's hard, it's it's not fun for the most part.
- 28:06SPEAKER_08: But I will say, so I did my first 15 miler or my longest run since Marathon weekend.
- 28:14SPEAKER_08: I did it with Adam.
- 28:15SPEAKER_08: And I I know I haven't downloaded it yet, and I know I still gotta get it.
- 28:20SPEAKER_08: But if you guys are going on your long runs and you just need some encouragement, get holler hype because he had all holler hype, and we had so many fun messages that people had sent to us during our run.
- 28:32SPEAKER_08: And we were running at like 5:15 in the morning.
- 28:35SPEAKER_08: We had a blast, but we also sent out messages to people that were also doing their long runs that were having a hard time, or we're just going, you know, just you know, out there doing their thing.
- 28:47SPEAKER_08: And it was just so much fun sending out messages as much as it was receiving them too.
- 28:52SPEAKER_08: So it's kind of like cool, like, ooh, how's their run going?
- 28:55SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 28:56SPEAKER_08: So uh we got one response after we had sent one out to them because they had sent to us one to us for a sorry, we're to harm.
- 29:03SPEAKER_08: But, anyways, it was so much fun.
- 29:05SPEAKER_08: It made the miles go by so much faster.
- 29:08SPEAKER_08: And I know I'm gonna download it and everything soon, but just as a reminder, if you're just trying to get through these runs, you have so many people that are behind you that will encourage you.
- 29:21SPEAKER_08: What I mean behind you, I mean like encourage you to keep going.
- 29:24SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 29:24SPEAKER_08: Supporting you, yeah.
- 29:26SPEAKER_08: Supporting.
- 29:26SPEAKER_14: So here's the question, Jack.
- 29:28SPEAKER_14: Who hyped you first, Debbie or Troy?
- 29:30SPEAKER_08: You know, I honestly don't remember.
- 29:32SPEAKER_08: It was Troy.
- 29:33SPEAKER_08: It was it was you.
- 29:35SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 29:36SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 29:37SPEAKER_08: Actually, I think Debbie might have been one of them.
- 29:39SPEAKER_14: Oh, I bet she was.
- 29:40SPEAKER_14: They're like the top two hypers out there.
- 29:44SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_08: But it was through Adam's holler hype.
- 29:47SPEAKER_08: So I didn't see who it was, but I do remember him saying it might have been Debbie.
- 29:52SPEAKER_09: I am going to invite our friend Emily to get back on the podcast with us.
- 29:56SPEAKER_09: Uh holler hype's become a big part of the Rise and Run uh experience, if you will.
- 30:02SPEAKER_09: And uh I want to get her back because again, I have to remember that we're getting new friends all the time.
- 30:09SPEAKER_09: And many, many of our friends know exactly what holler hype is, but it's new to some others.
- 30:14SPEAKER_09: So let's get Emily back here.
- 30:16SPEAKER_09: Tell us what's new, maybe maybe see if she's got new ideas for things.
- 30:20SPEAKER_09: Uh we'll try and do that in the next couple of weeks.
- 30:22SPEAKER_10: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 30:27SPEAKER_09: Before we get to our features section, a couple of announcements.
- 30:32SPEAKER_09: Fantasy football, that's going along pretty well.
- 30:35SPEAKER_09: Uh, we have 41 people total signed up right now.
- 30:40SPEAKER_09: Eight players for the free league, so that can go, although I have no commissioner yet.
- 30:46SPEAKER_09: Uh, eight is the very minimum I would do for a league.
- 30:50SPEAKER_09: But for the free league, we can do that.
- 30:53SPEAKER_09: There are nine who want to pay$50 or more.
- 30:58SPEAKER_09: Nine's a bad number.
- 31:00SPEAKER_09: Pretty much have to have an even number.
- 31:03SPEAKER_09: Uh and then there are 24 who want to play for$25 for the season.
- 31:10SPEAKER_09: That's great.
- 31:11SPEAKER_09: That's two 12 team leaks.
- 31:13SPEAKER_09: But I want to encourage you, the sign-up sheet is still in the featured section on the Facebook group page, and it will be there.
- 31:23SPEAKER_09: I'm going to cut this off on I wrote a date down and don't know.
- 31:28SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 31:29SPEAKER_09: 824, Bob.
- 31:30SPEAKER_09: 824.
- 31:30SPEAKER_09: So there it is.
- 31:31SPEAKER_09: Last look at that.
- 31:32SPEAKER_09: All capital letters, John.
- 31:33SPEAKER_09: You'd think I'd be able to see that, wouldn't you?
- 31:35SPEAKER_09: August 24th.
- 31:37SPEAKER_09: August 24th will be the last day to sign up for fantasy football.
- 31:41SPEAKER_09: We had a lot of fun last year.
- 31:42SPEAKER_09: We had four leagues last year.
- 31:45SPEAKER_09: I think we'll probably get that again.
- 31:47SPEAKER_09: I could use one or two more commissioners at each level, but we'll we'll cross that bridge when we come to it when everybody's signed in.
- 31:56SPEAKER_09: Uh the last thing I want to mention coming up next, coming up this Sunday, is our fundraising trivia challenge.
- 32:05SPEAKER_11: John, Greg, you want to talk about that?
- 32:08SPEAKER_11: Uh, we're we're real excited about it.
- 32:10SPEAKER_11: We were working on the questions in the last couple of days.
- 32:13SPEAKER_11: Uh, we're gonna shake it down into three rounds of trivia.
- 32:18SPEAKER_11: Uh so round one is going to be general Disney slash Disney Parks trivia.
- 32:26SPEAKER_11: Uh, then round two, uh, thanks to our buddy Alan.
- 32:31SPEAKER_11: Uh, he sent me a bunch of trivia questions.
- 32:33SPEAKER_11: So thank you so much, Alan.
- 32:34SPEAKER_11: Oh, cool.
- 32:35SPEAKER_11: All about Run Disney.
- 32:37SPEAKER_11: Oh, good.
- 32:38SPEAKER_11: That will be round two.
- 32:40SPEAKER_11: Won't be as long as the other rounds, but we at least have that on the docket.
- 32:44SPEAKER_11: And then round three will be all questions related to the Rise and Run podcast, very similar to what we did on the Rise and Run cruise uh a couple of months back.
- 32:57SPEAKER_11: So, and then we will have fabulous prizes for the top three winners over the course of the three rounds.
- 33:05SPEAKER_11: We're really excited about that.
- 33:07SPEAKER_11: Uh, if you uh did sign up um in the next uh day or two, you will be receiving an email from us with the uh specific Zoom link that will get you into uh the Zoom call.
- 33:22SPEAKER_11: And again, that is happening this Sunday, August 23rd at 8 p.m.
- 33:27SPEAKER_11: Eastern.
- 33:28SPEAKER_11: Um, and if you're hearing this day of release or day after, we're gonna try to we're gonna shut it down, the signups Friday evening.
- 33:37SPEAKER_11: So try to get in uh so that way we can have as many teams there as possible.
- 33:41SPEAKER_11: And we're just looking forward to seeing you all having a lot of fun, but in turn also supporting special forces, multiple sclerosis, and give kids the world.
- 33:50SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be a blast.
- 33:51SPEAKER_11: Can't wait for it.
- 33:53SPEAKER_10: Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
- 33:58SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 33:59SPEAKER_11: Well, this past weekend uh was a uh a big weekend for Disney nerds like all of us.
- 34:06SPEAKER_11: You know, a lot of people like to say that D23 is like the Super Bowl of the uh of the Disney community.
- 34:15SPEAKER_11: And obviously, you know, there's all sorts of panels, but I think the one that a lot of you know Run Disney fans probably tune into is the Parks panel, or let me use the corporate lingo here, the the experience Disney experiences panel uh that occurred on uh Saturday evening.
- 34:36SPEAKER_11: And uh God bless Disney for finally getting smart and broadcast or live streaming this thing on Disney Plus as opposed to two years ago when uh myself and Lexi and our guest for this week had to find some like weird live stream on like Instagram or YouTube and then try to cast it to our televisions.
- 34:57SPEAKER_11: But this week on the Riseron podcast, we are going to break down all of the major announcements from the D23 parks panel and then give a little twist and how that could affect Run Disney.
- 35:13SPEAKER_11: I know we try not to speculate too much here on the podcast, but for one week, we're gonna break that rule.
- 35:19SPEAKER_11: Uh, because I know the last time we did this two years ago, we had a ton of fun with it, and we're happy to do it again.
- 35:25SPEAKER_11: And just like two years ago, we are so happy to bring back our friend Amanda from Once Upon a Marathon, the deep dive queen herself, to help give her insight into all of this as well.
- 35:37SPEAKER_11: Amanda, welcome back to the show.
- 35:39SPEAKER_15: I am so excited to be back and what an introduction.
- 35:42SPEAKER_15: Thank you.
- 35:43SPEAKER_11: Well, you deserve it.
- 35:44SPEAKER_11: And you know, just like our introduction, we're gonna start with the introduction of the panel because uh this year's panel was hosted by the one, the only, the ultimate Disney adult himself, Neil Patrick Harris.
- 36:02SPEAKER_11: They started it off with what I think, in my mind, was a Tony Awards, a level opening number, all themed around animatronics, and there were so many amazing jokes.
- 36:17SPEAKER_11: There were Broadway stars.
- 36:19SPEAKER_11: You had Megan Hilty and Darren Chris and Skylar Aston.
- 36:24SPEAKER_11: It it was phenomenal.
- 36:26SPEAKER_11: So, uh Amanda, ladies first and guests first, just give me your overall impression of that opening number.
- 36:32SPEAKER_16: Oh, it was incredible.
- 36:33SPEAKER_16: And I loved that it was the kind of number that a Disney fan is gonna really appreciate because there were so many deep cuts and jokes.
- 36:41SPEAKER_16: Like at one point, they um they made a crack about how the Hatbot ghost in Walt Disney World is before Leota.
- 36:48SPEAKER_16: And it's like Leota.
- 36:51SPEAKER_16: And it's like just you this is for like the D23 fan.
- 36:55SPEAKER_16: Like you're in it deep and you appreciate all of the very clever um turns of phrase, words, kind of what they were touching on.
- 37:02SPEAKER_16: So loved it.
- 37:04SPEAKER_11: All right, Jack, give give us uh give us your thoughts on the uh opening number.
- 37:08SPEAKER_11: What did you think?
- 37:09SPEAKER_08: I don't want to say overall.
- 37:11SPEAKER_08: I mean, they you could tell that they put money into the production to really entertain.
- 37:16SPEAKER_08: I mean, yeah, I'll put it out that way.
- 37:19SPEAKER_08: I think it was great.
- 37:20SPEAKER_08: I I liked the introduction.
- 37:21SPEAKER_08: I mean Neil Patrick Harris.
- 37:23SPEAKER_08: Come on.
- 37:24SPEAKER_11: It was legend.
- 37:26SPEAKER_11: Mob hit me with it.
- 37:27SPEAKER_11: Gary.
- 37:28SPEAKER_11: Thank you.
- 37:29SPEAKER_08: There we go.
- 37:32SPEAKER_08: But yeah, I I really appreciate him.
- 37:35SPEAKER_08: I think there was a lot of great guests, and I think there's a lot of really good jokes.
- 37:39SPEAKER_08: They already made a joke at the right at the beginning about the Yeti and stuff, and it was just it was good humor.
- 37:44SPEAKER_08: If you're a parks person, you got a lot of the jokes.
- 37:47SPEAKER_11: I mean, I I appreciated Uncle Jesse himself, John Stamos, uh, got to take over uh hosting duties there for a little bit.
- 37:54SPEAKER_11: So that was that was quite a lot of fun.
- 37:56SPEAKER_11: And I I especially appreciated because apparently, like there's lore out there that Stamos and MPH go head to head all the time on bidding on Disney memorabilia.
- 38:11SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 38:12SPEAKER_11: And it gets super, super competitive.
- 38:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, apparently, Steamos owns the original Disneyland D of like the original sign out in front of Disneyland, and apparently the two of them have went monoe mano for it.
- 38:28SPEAKER_11: And I think a lot of Haunted Mansion stuff because both of them love Haunted Mansion so much.
- 38:33SPEAKER_11: So yeah, it was cool to see that that that banter with them uh during that.
- 38:37SPEAKER_16: So during the opening number, they had the person who was the Yeti animatronic, and she's just, oh, I'll stand here and not move.
- 38:44SPEAKER_16: And later on, Joe Rhody comes out, and I'm texting my friend, like, missed opportunity.
- 38:47SPEAKER_16: They should have had Joe fix the Yeti, like, come on, you know, like that was a layup.
- 38:51SPEAKER_16: And then lo and behold, later on in the production, they announced they're actually fixing the Yeti.
- 38:57SPEAKER_16: So perfect segue there.
- 38:59SPEAKER_11: That that's what we like to call foreshadowing in in in the business.
- 39:03SPEAKER_11: But but before we move on to the announcements, Lexi, you you're my girl in terms of Broadway and musicals.
- 39:08SPEAKER_11: What what were your thoughts on the opening number?
- 39:11SPEAKER_07: You know, I thought it was fantastic.
- 39:13SPEAKER_07: And right whenever he came out, he had been talking for maybe like two minutes.
- 39:18SPEAKER_07: I text some of my friends and I was like, you know, it would be really great if he started singing right now.
- 39:24SPEAKER_07: I feel like that's what's missing.
- 39:26SPEAKER_07: And then the song started.
- 39:28SPEAKER_07: I was like, oh my goodness.
- 39:30SPEAKER_07: Um, so I loved it.
- 39:32SPEAKER_07: I thought it was fantastic.
- 39:34SPEAKER_07: Um, it, you know, live theater, he missed his count a little bit and got off, but it was fine.
- 39:40SPEAKER_07: He covered so well.
- 39:42SPEAKER_11: No, I I think at one point both him and Stamos ripped their earpieces out.
- 39:47SPEAKER_11: I noticed.
- 39:48SPEAKER_11: So clearly, clearly something was going on there.
- 39:51SPEAKER_11: But um, yeah, I mean, overall, you know, the whole talk show vibe thing, you know, I I thought it was a clever thing, you know, especially with with such star power.
- 40:00SPEAKER_11: But, you know, Amanda, you and I were texting back and forth late Saturday night.
- 40:04SPEAKER_11: I think in theory it was a good idea, but the fact that, you know, Disney PR was making everybody read off of a teleprompter, the pacing felt off at times and and and kind of was a little flat.
- 40:19SPEAKER_11: What would you say to that?
- 40:21SPEAKER_16: Yeah, I it it seemed like there was something off with the pacing.
- 40:24SPEAKER_16: Um, and I I don't have the theater experience.
- 40:28SPEAKER_16: I'm very new to the theater world, enthusiastic about it, but like baby theater person right now.
- 40:33SPEAKER_16: Um, but it did seem like there was either something wrong with the audio.
- 40:36SPEAKER_16: Like you said, John Stamos took his earpieces out.
- 40:39SPEAKER_16: And like, when does Neil Patrick Harris miss a cue?
- 40:41SPEAKER_16: Much less multiple.
- 40:42SPEAKER_16: Like, you know what I mean?
- 40:44SPEAKER_16: Um, and there was definitely some times where like lines would be repeated, like they were waiting for something to come in, and it just seemed like maybe something technical was happening that undermined the overall production, which is unfortunate because I felt like there was never going to be a lot of big, big announcements because we got all of that last time.
- 41:08SPEAKER_16: So I feel like they were trying to compensate and make it worth your time to watch the live stream or be here with production value, having like all not just the stars, but like the songs, the numbers, the fact that there was a whole format around carousel of progress and like a storyline.
- 41:24SPEAKER_16: And unfortunately, because of the pacing and what I'm gonna call technical issues, it felt like it undermined it and it didn't land quite like it could have had it been really like pulled off, which is it's unfortunate because the next night at the Disney Legends, they pull off a Lynn Manuel Miranda or like melody of all his songs, like flawlessly.
- 41:46SPEAKER_16: So yeah.
- 41:47SPEAKER_11: I mean, and then the other thing I I did pick up on is Thomas Maslin, God bless him.
- 41:54SPEAKER_11: He's got big shoes to fill, but boys, he knows Josh tomorrow.
- 41:58SPEAKER_11: And you know, and you know, and it was funny because I even said to my wife, I'm like, I mean, obviously, you know, this guy's not as well known as Josh, you know, and obviously with him moving up to CEO, but like, how does it make him feel to be like, hey, we don't trust you enough to host the whole thing?
- 42:15SPEAKER_11: We're gonna bring in Neil Patrick Harris, but I'm sure he'll grow into it and you know, and and as long as he makes good decisions for the Disney fan, uh I think maybe he might get that that notoriety that that Josh had in the role.
- 42:28SPEAKER_16: I I had the same thought, but I I Googled because I was like, why isn't Josh out here speaking?
- 42:34SPEAKER_16: Why isn't Josh talking to me right now?
- 42:36SPEAKER_16: So like I went back and it apparently historically, traditionally, it is the head of the parks that hosts and runs it.
- 42:44SPEAKER_16: Like it's kind of more of a rare exception that the CEO comes out.
- 42:47SPEAKER_16: Um Iger notably did when announcing Galaxy's Edge, um, which I went back and looked at those photos and the production value.
- 42:55SPEAKER_16: Like he's just in a room.
- 42:56SPEAKER_16: He's like in a hotel on a stage, like the level of production difference between that announcement um and this go round.
- 43:06SPEAKER_08: And I don't know about you guys.
- 43:08SPEAKER_08: Uh, when you were watching this, you were talking about pacing just a minute ago, but it did it feel like there was some pauses that they thought there would be applause, and then there just wasn't.
- 43:23SPEAKER_08: There is some awkward moments.
- 43:24SPEAKER_08: I mean, I'm an awkward person, so I just feel like I catch it on, like catch on to it a little bit more.
- 43:30SPEAKER_16: But did they not use like clap tracks?
- 43:32SPEAKER_16: Like I think that's that was like I mean, I'm just saying, I I was not applausing because I was falling asleep on my couch in South Carolina, that's fair.
- 43:42SPEAKER_08: But I don't know.
- 43:43SPEAKER_08: I just found it very, very interesting.
- 43:45SPEAKER_08: Like they're like, this should get a good applause, but then it was just silence, or you get like a a golf clap, yeah.
- 43:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah, like but like honestly, I feel like most people knew coming in everything was gonna be mostly like a follow up of some kind.
- 44:00SPEAKER_08: You but I thought there would be a little bit more information provided.
- 44:03SPEAKER_08: I know we're gonna get into the good nitty-gritty details in a little bit, but overall it's just like I feel like they try to put a lot into production to make it seem at all so much more exciting, but then not a whole lot of information was actually given.
- 44:20SPEAKER_08: But I just thought the awkward like pauses where they thought there would be clapping.
- 44:24SPEAKER_08: I kind of wonder if the teleprompter says, wait for clapping.
- 44:30SPEAKER_08: And they're like, nothing's happening.
- 44:34SPEAKER_08: But, anyways.
- 44:35SPEAKER_07: I thought it was also really interesting that they had the Imagineers in there.
- 44:39SPEAKER_07: I don't remember them having having the Imagineers last um DT23.
- 44:47SPEAKER_07: And some of them are maybe not used to being out in front of an audience.
- 44:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, like outside of Bruce Vaughan, yeah, not you know, you don't see them like on screen much or anything.
- 45:01SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 45:01SPEAKER_07: And so I think part of the awkward pauses and some of the maybe hold for applause type thing, it could have been they were literally reading off a teleprompter that said hold for applause, and they didn't know what that meant.
- 45:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but I mean, you know, all awkwardness aside, you know, that they did fill almost two hours with with various announcements, even though maybe it wasn't to the nitty-gritty details of all of our liking.
- 45:28SPEAKER_11: But again, you know, for the purpose of of this podcast recording, we're just gonna focus on mostly Walt Disney World and again the impact potentially to Run Disney.
- 45:37SPEAKER_11: So the first attraction that they talked about that is going to affect uh us in Florida is the redo of Spaceship Earth.
- 45:48SPEAKER_11: Uh, as you will hear a lot uh during the course of this podcast recording, is no timetable was given in terms of when it will close and then when it will reopen.
- 46:00SPEAKER_11: But you know, a little, you know, since you know Spaceship Earth is based on history, a little history lesson, if you can remember, all the way back many, many moons ago, prior to COVID, this was a project that was announced that was going to happen, but then obviously COVID delayed that.
- 46:16SPEAKER_11: It was part of you know Bob Chapek's famous comments of you know, we're cutting what was it, 800 or 900 million dollars of you know capital expend uh expenditures and and such.
- 46:28SPEAKER_11: Jack, I'll start with you.
- 46:29SPEAKER_11: You know, do any thoughts uh on a spaceship earth redo and and do you think it will have any impact on us runners?
- 46:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean, honestly, they said they were gonna do a spaceship uh uh earth refurb before COVID and obviously get cut before COVID.
- 46:48SPEAKER_08: So I was expecting it to come around at sometime soon.
- 46:51SPEAKER_08: Probably right obviously after um the Americas opens.
- 46:56SPEAKER_08: But I think if you think from a running standpoint, I I I genuinely think they're probably gonna cut out the part of the race that lets us run underneath the spaceship ball.
- 47:10SPEAKER_08: Because if you think about oh well, I don't know.
- 47:13SPEAKER_08: Because I think they're gonna make a wall around it in some way, at least near the front uh entrance of it.
- 47:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that's what they did the last time.
- 47:21SPEAKER_14: They just walled off that front section where you enter and did it that way.
- 47:26SPEAKER_14: So there wasn't much of a uh disturbance because that's the main entrance to the park, so you really can't disturb that.
- 47:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 47:33SPEAKER_08: I don't I mean it shouldn't really affect too much, but I think it's a I mean, it's one of those rides that does need to be updated every decade or something.
- 47:42SPEAKER_08: I just hope Judy Dench comes back.
- 47:45SPEAKER_07: I think too, you know, because Spaceship Earth is all inside the Spaceship Earth ball, um, it I don't know if it would really affect us as runners too much.
- 48:00SPEAKER_07: Um kind of like you said, I they can't wall it off because that's the main entrance to the park.
- 48:08SPEAKER_07: And we've had runs before where we go on, you know, either side or around it in some way and not actually go under it.
- 48:16SPEAKER_07: Um, but I I'm so glad they're doing a refurb of it.
- 48:20SPEAKER_07: Especially, I mean, the future part, and I I say this, I'll say this about Tomorrowland too.
- 48:26SPEAKER_07: 20 years ago, they thought the future would be now is a little different from how the future is and how we think the future is gonna be.
- 48:35SPEAKER_16: I feel like the the reason to more human connection is a good pivot in general for the upgrade.
- 48:42SPEAKER_16: Um, I just in terms of running in the parks, it can't be worse than like the five years of walls.
- 48:48SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 48:48SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 48:49SPEAKER_16: Right?
- 48:50SPEAKER_16: I do wonder if the parking lot or backstage area, if they'll dedicate space to like staging and equipment or things like that, because so much of it is inside of the ball.
- 49:03SPEAKER_16: So, like any you know what I mean?
- 49:05SPEAKER_16: Like either out of the back of test track or a section of the parking lot in the back corner, and if that might handle more of the staging type stuff, or if we would just run past it when we do the service roads.
- 49:17SPEAKER_11: That's a great point.
- 49:18SPEAKER_11: I never thought about the whole staging concept because again, you know, it's not like you can have you know big trailers just you know sitting right there in front of the fountain and such.
- 49:26SPEAKER_11: So that that yeah, that's a great point.
- 49:28SPEAKER_11: Bob, I don't know about you.
- 49:30SPEAKER_11: I'm just hoping that at one point the little newsboy gets justice that if he survives, that they actually turn him back around and he faces us as opposed to just being shoved in the in the back corner and just uh selling papers to uh to a wall.
- 49:44SPEAKER_11: Poor kid.
- 49:47SPEAKER_14: He'll be all right.
- 49:48SPEAKER_14: Only thing that I hope that still stays is that they keep it lit up throughout the whole process because you know that's everyone stops in when they're coming in, get their photo in front of the ball when they get off the bus, and especially seeing that icon, especially during the five case, you know, because it's most of us aren't running uh in the dark for the uh marathon at the way well in the beginning now.
- 50:12SPEAKER_16: I was gonna say in the beginning, yeah.
- 50:13SPEAKER_16: I I agree.
- 50:14SPEAKER_16: Like that that's how you know you're gonna run Disney race, is like that ball is lit up while you're walking to the parking lot.
- 50:19SPEAKER_16: That's part of the the welcome.
- 50:22SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 50:23SPEAKER_11: I it still boggles my mind that after the 50th anniversary celebration, that the lights on Spaceship Earth are the thing that people will remember the most from it because you know so much got cut from that.
- 50:36SPEAKER_11: So that still blows my mind.
- 50:38SPEAKER_11: But all right, so enough about um well, I think we've thanked the Phoenicians enough, which by the way, I love that they called the the band that was on stage the Phoenicians.
- 50:47SPEAKER_11: I thought that was a great touch.
- 50:49SPEAKER_11: I thought it was wonderful.
- 50:50SPEAKER_11: But let's hop over to Animal Kingdom.
- 50:54SPEAKER_11: Amanda, you already brought it up, but Disco Yeti is no more.
- 51:00SPEAKER_11: They are finally gonna fix it.
- 51:01SPEAKER_11: They even uh brought out Gloria Gaynor, uh, you know, to bring in the uh the celebration, but you know, we have again no timetable for this.
- 51:13SPEAKER_11: My perspective on it, and Amanda, I'll be interested to see if you agree or disagree with me here.
- 51:19SPEAKER_11: I don't think this is happening until Tropical Americas is open because I I think we all know that Animal Kingdom needs as much capacity in the park right now.
- 51:30SPEAKER_11: So clearly, I think we're still a couple of years away, but what is your advice to runners who want to get the famous ride on Everest as part of their marathon experience?
- 51:41SPEAKER_16: I I think you're right.
- 51:42SPEAKER_16: Like it just comes down to when they make the decision to bring it down for refurb.
- 51:47SPEAKER_16: Um the first time I did Dopey, it was down, by the way.
- 51:50SPEAKER_16: So I didn't get to it was that was when they were doing the giant refurb and it started the week before marathon weekend, and I was like, come on.
- 51:58SPEAKER_16: Um heartbreaking.
- 52:00SPEAKER_16: Um I think it depends also, like I just I don't know enough about engineering because that Yeti, just the motors and the actuator, that has to be so much lighter now.
- 52:13SPEAKER_16: Like we have to have so much tech that we could do.
- 52:17SPEAKER_16: And it might not be this massive, huge thing that we're thinking of.
- 52:22SPEAKER_16: Um, like it may still be very expensive, you know, to get in there, but it might not be like, oh, they need to take down the entire mountain, you know?
- 52:30SPEAKER_16: Um, and I just don't know enough about like that type of engineering to know because if they could do it in a couple months, okay, you know.
- 52:39SPEAKER_08: So talking about the Yeti, so well, actually her name's Betty, Betty the Yeti.
- 52:46SPEAKER_08: Technically, from what I was told was that Betty the Yeti, one of the reasons why it technically went down was because it was actually taking down a little bit of the structure.
- 53:00SPEAKER_08: Its movements were a bit too much for the structure to actually withhold.
- 53:06SPEAKER_08: So that I don't even think it was really Betty the Yeti itself that's breaking down.
- 53:11SPEAKER_08: It's literally the structure that they just couldn't build something strong enough for something like that.
- 53:17SPEAKER_14: Yeah, so supposedly the yeti's on a separate structure built inside the mountain on a tower, and that tower with the yeti moving and jerking around was cracking parts of the concrete and area around it.
- 53:30SPEAKER_14: So for them to get that structure fixed, they said they'd have to cut open the mountain to to get the crane in there, I guess, to fix everything.
- 53:39SPEAKER_07: So they literally have to take the ride down from the inside to reach the yeti.
- 53:47SPEAKER_16: That's how like Joe Room talked about it at one point in time.
- 53:51SPEAKER_16: He was like, they put the Yeti on a pillar and they built a mountain around that, and then they put a roller coaster on that mountain.
- 53:57SPEAKER_16: And the whole thing is like you have to like peel back those layers.
- 54:00SPEAKER_16: But if it is a weight thing, like the yeti is moving around and that's what's causing it, it may be that with modern technology, as long as they can get to the pillar, they can now structurally reinforce it and then take down the weight of the yeti so that it's no longer an issue.
- 54:16SPEAKER_16: And if that's possible, then they don't necessarily have to potentially take off the whole mountain.
- 54:22SPEAKER_16: I don't know.
- 54:22SPEAKER_16: I'm just like, I feel like engineering has changed as much as animatronics have in the last 20 years, and there might be all kinds of possibilities.
- 54:32SPEAKER_16: And it's hard for me to imagine that they would have greenlit taking down the entire mountain to fix the yield.
- 54:37SPEAKER_16: Oh I feel like there's gotta be some sort of newer innovation or technology.
- 54:42SPEAKER_16: It's still gonna be expensive, but something that makes it a little bit more palatable to do.
- 54:47SPEAKER_07: Um and I can't imagine the animal kingdom landscape without the mountain.
- 54:53SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 54:55SPEAKER_14: Well, I I would say probably a hole in the mountain, not a full decommission of the mountain.
- 55:02SPEAKER_08: Or it's gonna have like the what is it called, the scaffolding, and it's gonna have basically a prince of the that part of the mountain.
- 55:14SPEAKER_08: But in all seriousness, I really don't think it's gonna affect the next two marathon weekends because this marathon weekend is like less than half a year away, and then the following one, you may have had just had the Americas opening.
- 55:26SPEAKER_08: I don't think they're gonna take down that ride until the Americas is opened in its fullest.
- 55:32SPEAKER_08: And I don't think because Disney they do it every time they do a land opening now, is they open up part of the land.
- 55:39SPEAKER_08: Like they'll the oopsor, they'll open up the land, but they won't open up all the attractions until all the attractions are open.
- 55:46SPEAKER_08: Then I'm gonna be like, okay, yeah, they're gonna put down Expedition Everest.
- 55:50SPEAKER_08: So if you guys are planning on doing Marathon Weekend 2028, you're probably still good if you want to do Expedition Everest.
- 55:59SPEAKER_08: But if you're trying to do it for 2029, sign up for 2028.
- 56:04SPEAKER_11: Smart question.
- 56:05SPEAKER_11: Well, Bob, isn't this a goal of yours?
- 56:06SPEAKER_11: I I remember you were considering it the one year, and then you decided against it.
- 56:11SPEAKER_11: Uh is that going to be a goal of yours uh for uh for for 2027?
- 56:15SPEAKER_09: I'd like to do it, but I I I keep getting slower and slower, Greg.
- 56:21SPEAKER_09: And I don't I don't see it happening.
- 56:23SPEAKER_14: And the other thing I've heard, and I have not experienced it yet, they've changed the single rider queue.
- 56:30SPEAKER_14: Yeah, yeah, apparently that has gone down.
- 56:33SPEAKER_14: It's actually slower than it was before.
- 56:36SPEAKER_14: So are they gonna let runners that extra turkey get in there quicker, or are they just gonna fill the queue like they're supposed to do now?
- 56:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 56:46SPEAKER_11: Either that or you uh you you get smart and strategic, you buy uh lightning lane that day and you try to time it up with your paces, and uh you'll be good to go.
- 56:57SPEAKER_11: But be very fast.
- 56:58SPEAKER_11: Yes, or or that too.
- 57:00SPEAKER_16: One of my most like popular posts is when I calculated the paces and like when you hit everything.
- 57:06SPEAKER_11: Yes, I remember you doing that, yes.
- 57:08SPEAKER_16: Like it's my corral.
- 57:09SPEAKER_16: Like, all right, if you're in this corral, this is when you'll hit it.
- 57:11SPEAKER_16: This you know, like on the course.
- 57:13SPEAKER_16: Um, because there's some people in A that are too fast, they actually hit Animal Kingdom before the park or before.
- 57:20SPEAKER_08: It was me one time.
- 57:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah, see?
- 57:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 57:23SPEAKER_08: I'm not as fast as I used to be, but I do remember that once.
- 57:26SPEAKER_05: You could have waited, Jack.
- 57:28SPEAKER_08: You know, I considered it, but I was just like, nah.
- 57:32SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 57:33SPEAKER_11: Well, again, I I think we're we're beyond thrilled that this is happening.
- 57:37SPEAKER_11: Uh, I saw on social media um our our buddy Taryn uh upon the news uh of this getting announced, she posted a picture the year that she ran the marathon or or one of the races as the Yeti herself.
- 57:52SPEAKER_11: And the amount of fur on her uh in that costume.
- 57:56SPEAKER_11: I mean, talk about commitment, but I mean, obviously Taryn's awesome with her costume game, as are you know many people in the community.
- 58:03SPEAKER_11: So so excited to see Betty the Yeti will hopefully no longer be in disco version uh in the near future.
- 58:11SPEAKER_16: I will say the very first springtime surprise, the 5K was Expedition Everest.
- 58:17SPEAKER_11: I remember that, yeah.
- 58:18SPEAKER_16: Animal Kingdom.
- 58:19SPEAKER_16: They had to shorten the course because of storms, but um, so many people were dressed as the Yeti.
- 58:24SPEAKER_16: So many people were dressed as Joe Roadie.
- 58:29SPEAKER_16: And one of the things was like Carissa and all the announcers on stage, you know how they do the video.
- 58:33SPEAKER_16: And there was this guy, and he was Joe Rhode in a hard hat, and he's like, I'm here to fix the yeti.
- 58:38SPEAKER_16: That is what I'm here for.
- 58:39SPEAKER_16: And it was like the loudest cheer I'd heard from corrals.
- 58:44SPEAKER_11: So I hope when they do the refurb that they pay homage to Joe, like maybe the Yeti could get like a big dangly earring or something like that.
- 58:53SPEAKER_11: You know, that I think that would be a lot of fun.
- 58:55SPEAKER_11: But we've been chatting a lot uh about Betty the Yeti, but we're just gonna move a little bit further down the pathway into uh in Animal Kingdom, and we're gonna talk about all the attractions that we got, I guess, a couple of details for for Tropical Americas.
- 59:12SPEAKER_11: And the uh the first attraction that we're gonna talk about is Dinosaur.
- 59:15SPEAKER_11: I mean Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent.
- 59:21SPEAKER_11: Jack, I was really hoping for you, Alicia, and John, that they were gonna be like, psych, we're we're just gonna make it dinosaur themed.
- 59:29SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be girl.
- 59:30SPEAKER_11: That's not gonna be the case, so I apologize.
- 59:32SPEAKER_11: We've got a serpent, Craig.
- 59:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 59:34SPEAKER_11: Okay, so serpents like dinosaur-esque.
- 59:37SPEAKER_11: I mean, you know, maybe it's like just the evil version of the serpent slide over at Port Orleans French Quarter, and it's just you know, it's got you know more sinister look to it or something like that.
- 59:48SPEAKER_11: But I mean, it I I've seen photos, they have the scaffolding up of you know, for the facade of the you know, the the Mayan temple that we're gonna be going into.
- 59:59SPEAKER_11: On that one video that they shared, it looks like the whole thing is gutted already.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_11: So I'll be interested to see how quickly this uh this comes about.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_11: But again, no timetable for anything.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_11: Um the second attraction that they talked about is we got a small update on Antonio's Fiesta Day in Canto.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_11: Uh, I remember one of the big debates that we had two years ago was was this going to be a boat ride or something else?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_11: We definitely know now that it's not a boat ride, but now the the debate is is it a trackless ride or is it an omni-mover?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_11: Based on the ride vehicles, it's it's kind of hard to tell, but I think it's cool that it's like mixed-up furniture that's gonna be the ride vehicles, so that's pretty cool.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_11: And then the last attraction is the family carousel.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_11: So El Carousel de los uh anomalitos.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_11: I apologize for my terrible Spanish.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_11: Amanda, I I know you're a huge sidekicks person, and I thought of you immediately when they showed all the characters that are that can be featured on this carousel, and it was like two things I thought of one sidekicks, and two, my god, this thing is gonna sell a lot of merch.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_16: I want an ornament of every single one, I want a plushie of every single one, I want like paintings with all of them in their happy little spots together.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_16: Like, give it all, give it all to me.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_11: Now, in terms of a run Disney connection, I mean, in years past, typically, you know, Dino Land right by the the bathrooms that are there, and what was um version of the wild mouse?
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_11: I I don't know why it primeval world, I think.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_11: Yes, primeval world.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_11: Um, you know, obviously that was the way that we exited out the last, what was it, two years now?
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_11: We've exited out near the bathrooms near Finding Nemo.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_11: I would have to imagine that for this year's marathon and probably next year's, I feel like that's still gonna be the case, but can anybody think of any other Run Disney connections in terms of Tropical Americas and Animal Kingdom?
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_08: So here's my thing.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_08: I think that so remember when Pandora opened and you had that one wine and dine where you actually got to run through it.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_08: It was back in 2018.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_08: I don't know if they did it more than one year.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_08: I think was it just the one year?
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_08: I could be wrong.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_11: I think there might have been one or one or two years.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_11: I think I think it was more than one, but it wasn't a lot.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_08: But as a reminder to I guess everybody for Marathon weekend or for wine and dine, if you really think about it, Animal Kingdom opens up so early.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_08: I think it's gonna be highly unlikely that we're gonna be running through that those lands anytime soon.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_08: Because like Pandora, if the park is opening up at what, 7:30 or whatever the extra magic hours for all hotel guests, we wouldn't have been able to a chance to run through what will end up being such a popular area, especially for the first coming few years.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_08: I really think we probably will be running past um finding Nemo for at least the next three to five years.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_08: And I and as much as I would love to run through the Americas, and maybe there might be a chance that we will, I just think it's gonna be such a popular area, they don't want to adhere, like prevent people from not being able to see it first thing in the morning when the when the park opens up.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_11: That's a really good point, Jack.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_11: I mean, now the one thing that they could do, and as I think we just saw this this past week, um, you know, in relation to wine and dine, you know, coming up here in a couple of weeks, the calendar came out, and Epcot has a delayed opening on both the 5k day and the half marathon day.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_08: True.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_11: So in theory, they could probably delay it, but no, your your point is very well taken.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_11: Earliest part to open, and obviously, I mean, sure, there's still gonna be plenty of people that are gonna hightail it over the flight of passage and such, but clearly this is going to be the new it thing.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_11: So that no, that that does make a ton of sense.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_08: Maybe we might get lucky and get at added Pandora.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_08: That would be pretty cool.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_08: Bring it back.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_11: That would be nice.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_08: But um it's it's less unlikely for that to happen, like how unlikely it will be that dinosaur will ever reopen again.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_08: She's open a dream.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_14: It's when they open that fifth park with the like expired rides, the uh extinct rides.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_08: Dude, you you know what though?
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_08: Like, wouldn't it be so funny?
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_08: You get through all of Indiana Jones, maybe they might leave in the left, right, left, right thing in, and then it's still Indiana Jones at the very end, and then all of a sudden you go do do do, and like the dinosaur still pops out at the end before you go back into like real time.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_08: I think that would be freaking hilarious and so confusing to so many people.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_08: I would keep that photo of everybody on that ride.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_14: I just think that Indiana Jones should be like waking up in carbonite.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_08: Really clean.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_08: That's a different franchise, John.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_14: That's not Indiana Jones.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_08: Hey, you know what?
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_14: That was the that was the that was the whole theory.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_14: You know, that Indiana Jones is Han Solo's dream when he was frozen in Carbonite.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_11: Interesting.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_11: Interesting.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_14: I never heard that before.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_14: That's clever.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_14: I like that, John.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_14: Because you have the in the in the if you look at the Indiana Jones movies, there are some like Club Obi-Wan, uh R2, D2, and C3 PR are highlighters on the wall.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_14: Oh, okay.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_11: I I I I thought you were just gonna say something like Indy was gonna have an assistant that was named Dr.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_11: Seeker or something like that.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_11: That's that would be a cool homage.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_16: Yes, it's gonna be super popular.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_16: But like it would just be the marathon.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_16: Like Wine and Dine goes through Galaxy's Edge now, springtime surprise doesn't touch it, it's not part of Princess Weekend.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_16: Like the only disruptive day would be one day out of the year in a low season on a day in which all of Park.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_16: Corporations are disrupted and they're already deep in this and doing this.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_16: I know it's like wishful thinking because like I selfishly want it.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_16: Um, but if they were going to make an exception, I feel like that would be the race to make the exception for.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_16: Um, and I would, I just the real thing is like the entertainment.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_16: Can you imagine having indie hanging out as you run on the course?
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_16: Or, you know, like a meet and greet.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_16: Oh, how be epic.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_16: There'd be so many good character stops and photo ops.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_16: Like, and if they don't give us that, they should give us Pandora.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_16: It needs to be one or the other.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_08: But also on that point, I I want that to happen so bad, Amanda.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_08: Trust me.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_08: I would love to freaking run through the Americas.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_08: I think it would be so immersive and so fun.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_08: But to also put this in, and I know we're going on to the next topic in just a second, but if you look at like the models, the pathways don't really seem as big as what the pathways were in Dino Land.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_08: Like they had it like literally as a road that had a good bit of you know coverage.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_08: It's kind of, I feel like parking lot.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_08: It's a themed parking lot.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_08: If you look in this, you're going through the tropical America, so you're gonna feel more enclosed with the foliage.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_08: And I mean, if you look at all of the stuff, I mean it does look like the pathways are gonna be a little bit smaller.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_08: There's gonna be more of them, but could be smaller.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_08: So maybe they're like, ah, that might be like a pinching point, and they might not do it.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_08: That's the other thought.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_08: I could be wrong.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_08: I'm probably wrong.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_11: Well, again, we got no timetable on it, so we're just gonna have to wait and see.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_11: But um, you know, what I that was all the announcements that we had for Animal Kingdom.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_11: So let's head over to the other kingdom, and that is Magic Kingdom, and we got a ton of updates in terms of Piston Peak National Park.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_11: Try saying that five times fast.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_11: Uh, we got the names for the two attractions that will be part of this land.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_11: The first, the e-ticket attraction, is going to be Cars Ridge Run Rally.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_11: And it's so it looks like you know it's gonna be like an off-roading type thing.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_11: Based on the model that was out at D23, I think this is gonna be a brand new ride system.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_11: This is not gonna be like Test Track or Radiator Springs Racers over in DCA.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_11: So I'll be interested to see if this is a type of system that will because a lot of it looks to be outdoors, and we all know it rains in Florida a lot.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_11: So, you know, the fact that hopefully they can keep it open for a while.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_11: Uh, and then the uh the second attraction is a family, it looks like a like a spinner attraction, kind of like a Luigi's or Alien Swirling Raiders uh type uh ride, and that is Miss Fritter's Daredevil spinalong.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_11: No timetable.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_11: Obviously, we know there are plenty of construction walls, the rivers of America is drained, but the Run Disney connection that I wanted to chat about here is I don't think this is really going to affect obviously the half in January and for Princess, and then obviously uh Marathon itself.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_11: What I'm interested with, and uh Amanda, you and I were chatting about this a little bit earlier today, is we've been coming in on the Grand Floridian side of Magic Kingdom the last couple of years because of construction with Big Thunder Mountain and the way that we used because we used to exit by Big Thunder.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_11: Now that Big Thunder is done, do we think there's enough construction still going on back there that will continue to come in the Grand Floridian way, or we didn't come back in on the contemporary side?
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_16: So like I Larry was pulling up maps because they announced that the Floridian Way project was gonna go live.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_16: Like the double roundabouts were gonna be in use, and then they were decommissioning the service road and all this other stuff.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_16: And I think that that's gonna go in effect before this marathon weekend.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_16: And I don't think it'll have a massive effect on this upcoming marathon weekend because we were already running through the construction and and shifting in from the other angle, going in through Grand Floridian with electric parade.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_16: Um, I just don't know.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_16: It seems like Villains Lane is gonna go on forever.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_16: Like I feel like that's gonna be the last thing that's done.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_16: And that on the back end does cross over to where Grand Floridian service roads were and are for the new ones.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_16: And what I have to imagine is a lot of staging.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_16: You guys are probably more familiar with like those operations and logistics behind the scenes.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_16: So yeah, I I I even though Big Thunder's opening back up, I still think it's probably gonna come in and what I consider the reversed course, but kind of what's been the the last few years.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_16: There is a bottleneck going on that pathway.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_16: But the electric parade is pretty cool.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that would be really cool to run past.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_14: I like to get that parking lot out of the way before you get to Magic Kingdom.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_14: Coming out of Magic Kingdom and running that parking lot for what, a mile and a half, two miles kind of doesn't make it for me.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_14: But hopefully they maybe change the course back to going underneath uh the water bridge at the contemporary first.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I will say that there's a lot of give and take in terms of which way you come in because I I I think if I had my druthers, I would prefer to go back to the old course because then you know, similar to you know, old, you know, old courses, that allowed you to go underneath the uh the Magic Kingdom parking sign.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_11: And I know that's a huge photo opportunity for people that we haven't had in a couple of years.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_11: So that's always nice.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_11: And I prefer getting the the water tunnel out of the way earlier in the race as opposed to as opposed to later.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_11: I'd be interested to actually have someone measure the grade.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_11: Like what is the steeper climb?
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_11: Is it going up to the contemporary or is it going up to the the TTC?
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_11: I I'd be really interested to look at that data.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_11: But at the same time, though, to your point, Amanda, that touch of being able to see the electric water pageant out on the Seven Seas Lagoon is a really nice touch.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_11: But again, the trade-off there is you've got that huge pinch point on that new walkway between the Grand Floridian and uh and the Magic Kingdom.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_11: And I know for our friends in AWD, that's been a struggle for times, especially with the Walt Disney community and um, you know, getting over those humps and such.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_11: But yeah, so I I think it's gonna be very, very interesting to see how they tackle it.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_11: You know, again, I I think I do subscribe to what you're saying, Amanda.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_11: I think this year it might be the same, but I I feel like in the next two to three years, though, we we could see we could see a potential change there.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_16: Yeah, a shift.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_16: I sent you an email with some of the construction plans I had found, like the permitting planning.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_16: Um, and so the reason I reference that is just because in the new pathway, the service road looks like it's gonna go right where Villains Land construction is.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_16: So if they were gonna use that for runners, I'm like, we would be in the middle of it.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_16: Um, from what I can tell.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_16: But they're older plans, and who knows like if that's actually still relevant or has been changed, right?
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_16: Like there's a lot of shifting.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_16: I think I read that it's already been delayed like 15 months in true Disney style.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_16: So wait, Villains Land itself?
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_16: No, not Villains Land, the service road construction, like all of the rerouting of Grand Floridian Way.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_16: My understanding is the front half of that where the roundabouts are that we run, that's like a massive change in a traffic pattern.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_16: But on the other side of that, Grand Floridian Way, which you used to drive to go to Grand Floridian, um, like once you passed Polly or even to parts of Polly, that's no longer gonna be accessible to the public.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_16: And it's there's gonna be a service road back there, but it will no longer like the traffic will deaden into a roundabout and bring you back out again.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_16: Now, if we were gonna run on that, they would have to then put us on a service road and then, which they do, we run on service roads, but if they're doing that, that service road, from what I can tell on the maps, goes right through all of the villain's construction.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_16: Like it doesn't go into um where the parade staging was, which is how we used to come out.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_16: But this is like reading tea leaves, like it doesn't seem to come out of that spot when I'm looking at the permitting maps.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_16: It could be that's exactly where it comes out of.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_16: And that's just, you know, um, me not really reading the permits, right?
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_16: So I think I think no matter what, coming out of the back of Magic Kingdom while villains land is under construction is a no-go, just because of how much is going on there.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_16: That's my best guessed.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_11: Now, just going to the land itself for a real brief conversation here.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_11: Obviously, out of all the announcements from two years ago, this was the most contentious because you had a lot of hardcore Disney fanboys that got really, really upset that the Rivers of America was going away and Walt's frozen head was rolling over in his grave and all that jazz.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_11: Now, seeing the model and what they're going to do with it, how do we feel about the addition of cars in the Magic Kingdom?
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_16: I feel like this is gonna get me kicked out of the cup club, but like it never bothered me that they were gonna take out Rivers of America.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_16: I never even I'm right there with you.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_11: I'm right there with you, island.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_16: Like, I had a little bit of frustration because in my mind it was Mama Odie's Island, and we were gonna take a boat into the swamp and it was gonna be a whole trip.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_16: And I thought it was perfect, right there with Tiana's bayou.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_16: Like I was locked in when they announced cars.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_16: I was like, all right, it's not Mama Odie's, but you know, um, I'll take it, I guess.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_16: Um, my biggest concern was just like I liked having water and more greenery, but I think because it's gonna be a natural park with natural national park themed with like the lagoons and the geysers and the different things, like I think it's gonna look fine.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it'll still have nature.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_07: Again, yeah, and they probably all have the um all of the plumbing and like water fixtures available even with the construction to be able to put all of the radiator spring stuff in it.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_07: Well, it's not radiator springs, but you know, like yeah thing.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_16: And they did say um I saw it confirmed somewhere at a D23 that the whatever the system is for the cars, it'll be able to handle the rain because the geysers themselves are gonna be water and go off and the cars in water anyway.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_11: So nothing being like in a Florida afternoon monsoon uh while while riding that attraction.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_11: Everyone's definitely gonna get their uh lightning lane money's worth out of that one.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_11: That's for sure.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_16: I'm sure there'll still always be technical issues in the lightning.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_16: That's the real problem.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_16: That's true.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_08: Like I think it's gonna be a very, very beautiful place for everybody to stop during the race to take pictures of because you're gonna have such an all-around view of it that you can get a lot of good different pictures.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_08: Do I think cars should have been in Magic Kingdom theme park specifically?
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_08: I just think it's an odd movie choice to put into Magic Kingdom itself.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_08: But National Park sounds more like a Disney's California adventure kind of feel.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_08: But again, honestly, I would be more sad of Rivers of America going away in Disneyland than I would Disney World.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_11: Yes, that would be a much different issue.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_08: I agree.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_11: Now I will say, here's my hot take is that what my hope is is that once Piston Peak is done and cars is operational and everyone enjoys it, that will spell the end of the Tomorrowland speedway.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_11: Because if there is one attraction that needs to be removed in Magic Kingdom, it is that for not only just uh sound ambiance and such, but just you know, we don't need gas fumes anymore going all throughout Tomorrowland.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_16: So but like a massive footprint, like a huge amount of space, like premium space with your expansions.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_14: It's interesting though, because it would have to be an interesting uh a ride.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_14: Like most of those rides face backstage somewhere, and the only other ride in Magic Kingdom is uh Snow White, that where it's a 360 immersion.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_14: So it'd be kind of uh tough to design something where it's 360 in that area, besides this thing.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_16: I'm curious about, I mean, I know this was a Disneyland announcement that they kind of threw in there at the end, like, oh, and we're gonna reimagine Tomorrowland.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_16: Just yeah, well, you know, but only in Disneyland, and then they like walked out.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_16: Um, I'm very curious to see what they do in Tomorrowland there and if that will inform the Tomorrowland in Walt Disney World, or if they'll take diverging paths.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_16: Because I think Marvel's Fantastic Four, like that retro vibe, works very well in California, less so in Florida.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_16: And I'm curious if they'll like try and mimic them and do the same for both, or and if so, can they like the whole Marvel rights and all of that?
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_16: So curious to see.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_08: I think they're gonna try and mimic Tokyo, they're gonna see how Tokyo does with how their whole new setup is, because they have um Space Mountain Earthrise.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_08: And I mean, I from the last few visits that I did in Tokyo, I I kind of saw it being built from like different phases.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_08: That's gonna be an epic ride.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_08: And I really think that honestly, if they replace the Space Mountain at Disney World with what they're getting, I think it's gonna be just probably honestly what Magic Kingdom needs.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_08: But Spaceship, sorry, not Spaceship Earth, but Space Mountain, I that was the first Space Mountain, so I feel like a lot of people will get mad if they took out the original.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_08: But at least the theming and aesthetic of it is exactly what uh Magic Kingdom needs.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_16: Now that you say that, I'm just realizing how many Tomorrowland announcements there were.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_16: I know it's not really Tomorrowland, but aren't they reverting back to like the Jules Verne Space Mountain?
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_05: Oh my gosh, I'm so excited for that.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_16: So maybe maybe they're testing all their options.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_16: Like we're gonna we have a steampunk, like this version, we've got the hyper future version, we've got put to whatever's going on in California.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_16: So maybe they're just like testing the waters in all of them.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_16: That's true, that's a fair point.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_07: Okay for sure.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_07: Tomorrow can be anything because it's tomorrow.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_08: But also, it's kind of a good thing, like Disney's learning to kind of go back to the classics because that's what hit.
- 1:21:09SPEAKER_08: You don't have to put IP into every single little nook and creani.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_08: Going back to the original is not there's nothing wrong with it.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_08: If you want to give it a little update, that's fine.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_08: But I mean, that's the one thing that I actually am thankful for for those D23s.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_08: It sounds like they're like trying to bring back what people actually liked versus trying to change something that never needed to be changed in the first place.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_07: They're listening to the people.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_16: That was one of the big themes I got out.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_16: And Thomas, um, the new head of the party, he kept saying, like, this is a commitment to the fans.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_16: We're doing this for the fans.
- 1:21:44SPEAKER_16: I hope you realize we're listening to you, and that's what a lot of these are for.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_16: Um I just I'm still thinking of the Tomorrowland thing, because isn't there um a 20,000 leagues under the sea non in Tokyo?
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_16: Yes, in Tokyo.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_16: Who you see, and then they just put that on the treasure as well.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_08: Yes, they did.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_16: The the beer club.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_16: Okay.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_08: Maybe they're making a comeback.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_08: It could be.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_08: That'll be pretty epic, though.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_11: Well, before we leave Magic Kingdom, we're gonna head over to Lexi's territory, and that is just real briefly, we'll talk about Villains Land because I and I think this was one of my favorite moments of the panel where essentially Bruce Vaughn took a took a shot at the at the Disney community, at and maybe Lentesta himself, because he he was the one that started the rumor mill that apparently all the plans for Villains Land got scrapped and they were told to start over.
- 1:22:44SPEAKER_11: And you know, he he just you know he made this side comment about well, here's what we're actually doing.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_11: Um again, not a ton of details, but uh it will feature two major attractions.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_11: The first being a roller coaster themed after Lexi's favorite villain, Maleficent.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_11: And then also there will be a dark ride that is themed to going into the magic mirror, which I think is gonna be really cool by the time this thing actually comes online.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_11: I would love to see the ride technology that they come up with.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_11: I mean, I would have to think that this is gonna be a uh trackless attraction um at some point.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_11: But uh the and then really the only other piece of news that we got outside of like the whole story is that there's like a wicked wishing well, and that's what's like summoning up you know the joy for all the villains, is that they said that the the scale and the scope of this land is going to be on par with that of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_11: That's like what 14 to 15 acres.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_11: So, I mean, again, it's a pretty sizable chunk of land as of this point.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_11: I don't think we're even sniffing this thing until the 2030s.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_11: I'm right there with you, Amanda.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_11: This is gonna be the last thing that's gonna be done.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_11: The only Run Disney connection that I can think of is that eventually in the next decade, it will give us some more miles in Magic Kingdom.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_11: But does anybody have thoughts on Villains Land?
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_16: First thing, I was a little frustrated that they give so little details in the panel.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_16: But then on social media, they're like an entire model of the roller coaster and all of the theming, and we're gonna walk through it and there's dots all over it.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_16: I'm like, are those projection dots?
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_16: Like, tell me more about this.
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_16: Um, so it was kind of weird that more details were given on these like various official social media channels.
- 1:24:45SPEAKER_16: It kind of felt like a fragment, fragmented drizzle of information.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_16: Um the park itself, like I agree.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_16: I think it's gonna be the last one done, but I can see it.
- 1:24:56SPEAKER_16: Like, we're gonna run into the haunted forest and the curse is taking over, and they're gonna bring in the fog machines, and there's gonna be lights, and it is going to be the best like mile and a half of Magic Kingdom whenever it gets there with the uplighting and all of that.
- 1:25:11SPEAKER_16: Um, and I think once that is done, we might actually exit out of the back of the park, especially if tomorrow lands getting getting some work done.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_16: Like I think we'll pick us up in a balance land, and then then we'll be able to exit on the service road and come back that direction.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_16: Um, but I think it's gonna be really, really cool.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_16: And for the the going into the catacombs, like the the underground for the mirror, somebody was saying it looks like the Shanghai Pirates ride.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_11: Yes, that would be fun.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_16: Yeah, which would be really cool because I I think the only place that technology is is in Shanghai for that ride.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_16: Like it, they haven't replicated it yet anywhere.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_08: The the only fear is that I hope they don't cut back on budget and then make it I hate saying this, Pandora's water ride where it's like so short, you knew they cut the budget because they couldn't extend it.
- 1:26:04SPEAKER_08: The Nabi River, yeah.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_11: I mean, the part that I'm looking forward to the most is that once we do get to run through Villains Land is the dual character stop that will be Gaston and Gaston's grandfather.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_11: Because Bob, you're gonna generate such a long line with him.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_11: I it's gonna be brilliant.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_11: And I would wait a half an hour just for that.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, one of my favorite costumes ever.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_16: I love it.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_16: I love it.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_16: Actually, just the character stops are gonna be incredible.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_16: The villains are always popular, but if they do the villain sidekicks too, oh my god.
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_16: You rarely even get the hero sidekicks, but there's a whole category of villain sidekicks.
- 1:26:46SPEAKER_07: Y'all know have thoughts.
- 1:26:49SPEAKER_07: Um love Maleficent Coaster.
- 1:26:52SPEAKER_07: And Amanda, I agree with you on social media.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_07: They had the model and the way, and you you'll have to go on and look and see it, but the way that the cliffs come over the the coaster track is amazing, and I'm so excited.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_07: Um, I think like theming typewise, it's probably gonna be very similar to how Dark Universe is, where like it's a little smoky in the daytime, but really you want to go at night, and all the lights and the different types of lighting.
- 1:27:30SPEAKER_07: I love the haunted wishing well angle, but I think it is a massive missed opportunity.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_07: Whenever he said, going down into the catacombs, where's Hades?
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_07: He is down underneath the things.
- 1:27:50SPEAKER_07: I think that's what that's Hades' spot.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_07: I got yeah, like I I'm excited about the evil queen and the the concept and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_07: But Hades is down.
- 1:28:03SPEAKER_07: I didn't see him on any of the pictures of the villains.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_07: I didn't see him on any of like who they could possibly like because they had Dr.
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_07: Facilier and they had Cruella, which Greg, you forgot to mention Cruella is getting a ride.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_07: We just don't know anything about it.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_11: Uh that that got that got debunked.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_11: Uh Scott Guston has already reported on that.
- 1:28:25SPEAKER_11: That yeah, that whole and again, that goes back to the whole theme that there of the pacing and confusing.
- 1:28:32SPEAKER_11: That I mean, great, it was awesome to see Glenn Close come out as Cruella, but nobody knew was it a bit or was it an announcement?
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_11: And it created a lot of confusion.
- 1:28:44SPEAKER_11: But no, Scott Gustin already cleared that up.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_11: There is no Cruella ride, it is just the roller coaster and the magic mirror attraction.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_07: Then why did the head do say there were gonna be three attractions?
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_07: It's it's a lair, is what I had read.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_08: That it's a lair.
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_07: Okay, interesting.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_16: In our defense, the time before last, there was a lot of it could be this, it could be that.
- 1:29:12SPEAKER_16: So I mean, they kind of trained us to read into things on where this is coming.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_16: Um I always assumed that they would have like Corilla own a fashion shop.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_07: Like obviously, like a like a store.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean, that's where Bob can buy his next costume.
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be fabulous.
- 1:29:30SPEAKER_07: There we go.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_07: I think there, I mean, realistically, there's probably gonna be a restaurant of some sort and a quick service of some sort.
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_07: I would love to see Pain and Panic have a like merchandise shop.
- 1:29:45SPEAKER_07: I think that would be really cool.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_07: And we know they have the costumes because they were just at Disneyland and you can meet them.
- 1:29:53SPEAKER_07: So come on, Disney.
- 1:29:55SPEAKER_07: This is what the people want.
- 1:29:57SPEAKER_11: I will say, when it comes to Villains Land, I think my the most disappointing thing, yet most hysterical thing, though, was when all the permits start or like the the like architecture plans started coming out, everyone kept talking about this little building that was gonna be going next to the haunted mansion.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_11: And everyone's like, oh, this is like gonna be part of like a pathway that's gonna go from Liberty Square into uh into Villains Land, and maybe it could be a restaurant, or or maybe they're gonna bring the Haunted Mansion parlor from Disney Cruise Line, and they're gonna put that on land, and then all of a sudden the model was out for Piston Peak, and it's bathrooms.
- 1:30:39SPEAKER_11: And the sheer disappointment that was in people on social media just made me chuckle so hard.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_08: You know what though?
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_08: I don't even think they're gonna call be called bathrooms because in Villa's Land in the olden days, wasn't it called chamber pots?
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_11: I like where your head's out there.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_08: We don't want chamber pots.
- 1:30:58SPEAKER_11: I know it'd be like tangled toilets, hold my beer.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna go into chamber pots.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_16: I just hope they make them like a high-volume bathroom for all the runners on race day because Magic Kingdom kind of has the worst bathrooms because they're all older and built from forever ago.
- 1:31:16SPEAKER_16: So I'm like, give us lots of stalls, pump in that AC.
- 1:31:20SPEAKER_11: Like Yeah, it could it could usurp the tangled toilets as best run Disney bathroom.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_16: I'm just saying, well, right now, like Norway takes the spot for me.
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_16: But Epcot's usually so close to the beginningslash end that you know it's not always the most useful to use.
- 1:31:39SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 1:31:39SPEAKER_11: Well, we've spent a ton of time in Magic Kingdom.
- 1:31:43SPEAKER_11: Let's move over to the last park in uh Walt Disney World, and that is Hollywood Studios.
- 1:31:50SPEAKER_11: We got some updates on Monstropolis.
- 1:31:54SPEAKER_11: Uh, the first piece of news that we got is the show that is going to be replacing my beloved Muppet Vision 3D, is a show called Welcome to Monstropolis.
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_11: It's gonna feature a uh theme song written by Randy Newman, who wrote uh You Got a Friend and Me.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_11: I think they said it's the first time he's ever written a song for an attraction.
- 1:32:17SPEAKER_11: Uh so that'd be fun.
- 1:32:19SPEAKER_11: Uh, the part I don't understand is I don't know why they're still trying to make puffy pizza happen in Hollywood Studios.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_11: Uh, because first you had Pizza Planet, then you had Pizza Rizzo, and now we're getting Archie's Scare Pig Pizza.
- 1:32:33SPEAKER_11: Uh, so can't wait to see what that's all about.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_11: I think the part I'm most excited for outside of the coaster is we are getting Harry Hausens.
- 1:32:43SPEAKER_11: So we're getting sushi in Hollywood Studios.
- 1:32:47SPEAKER_11: That's gonna be a ton of fun.
- 1:32:49SPEAKER_11: They're gonna have uh apparently an animatronic of I I don't know what his name is, but the octopus um sushi chef.
- 1:32:59SPEAKER_11: But I think, in my opinion, this was the most surprising announcement to me of the entire evening, and that was with the exception of the door coaster, which again we got no details about.
- 1:33:16SPEAKER_11: This land is going to be opening sometime next year in 2027.
- 1:33:23SPEAKER_11: Now, my Run Disney take here is because of the layout of Hollywood Studios and the fact that outside of like springtime surprise, 10 miler, we only get to be in Hollywood Studios for like 30 seconds on Marathon Day.
- 1:33:40SPEAKER_11: I don't see us running through this land, but I feel like it could lead to some pretty cool character stomps with Mike and Sully, or maybe the uh the the what was the character that got 2319 that had the sock on him?
- 1:33:55SPEAKER_11: I know I've seen him out on the course a couple of times, but um, you know, what are everyone's thoughts when it comes to Monstropolis celebrating human day?
- 1:34:06SPEAKER_14: You don't think we're gonna run by it for the not for the marathon, but for the because we kind of run by it anyway for uh springtime.
- 1:34:14SPEAKER_11: Well, yes, we'll run by it.
- 1:34:15SPEAKER_11: We just won't I don't think we're gonna run in it.
- 1:34:17SPEAKER_11: No, I I guess that that's I should have rephrased it that way.
- 1:34:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:34:21SPEAKER_16: So my thing is the same.
- 1:34:23SPEAKER_16: I think we'll run by it.
- 1:34:24SPEAKER_16: Um, I think 2028 is interesting because that's gonna line up with the anniversary year for marathon weekend, right?
- 1:34:33SPEAKER_16: Like the full marathon and all of that.
- 1:34:35SPEAKER_16: And I wonder if they'll try and purposely pull that through so that people can see it along the course um for that anniversary race or not.
- 1:34:46SPEAKER_16: Um I don't think it's currently on the that particular course.
- 1:34:50SPEAKER_16: Uh, you would do it for the 10 Milear Springtime surprise because that goes through Galaxy's Edge.
- 1:34:55SPEAKER_16: I also think it would be interesting.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_16: Like, I just want to see a bunch of like monsters on a stage cracking jokes, like doing stand-up comedy, like as everybody's running by.
- 1:35:04SPEAKER_16: Like, I think that would be very like on theme and immersive and perfect.
- 1:35:08SPEAKER_16: Um, so I think it'd be more like characters theming than so much like running through the land.
- 1:35:14SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they could do it for a half, also, I think, because uh there's enough time there.
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_14: But like I said, for marathon weekend, you know, the park most of us are getting there, the parks are way open, and that current little entrance and exit is the least what do you call it?
- 1:35:31SPEAKER_14: Uh a destructive uh disruptive disruptive for the uh the park.
- 1:35:38SPEAKER_11: I will say I was kind of shocked, but not shocked.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_11: I thought for sure, because you know, going back to our conversation about Tomorrowland, obviously we we'll dip into Disneyland real quick here at the end, but I thought that maybe they would potentially move Monsters Inc.
- 1:35:55SPEAKER_11: laugh floor from Magic Kingdom over into Hollywood Studios, but then I understand that's taking away capacity from Magic Kingdom, but at the same time, like I I mean I know you can filter a lot of people through there, and then Bob wouldn't have the ability to get his that guy sticker and and and the whole nine yards.
- 1:36:13SPEAKER_11: Um, but you know, uh I'm excited to see a new show.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_11: Apparently it's gonna feature an animatronic.
- 1:36:18SPEAKER_11: Um, you know, how much of it is, you know, will it be 3D?
- 1:36:21SPEAKER_11: You know, will there be any nods to to Muppa Vision?
- 1:36:24SPEAKER_11: Uh I'll be interested to see.
- 1:36:26SPEAKER_11: But it would be wonderful though, like once the door coaster is open, if that could be like another roller coaster that would be available.
- 1:36:33SPEAKER_11: Obviously, not during Marathon weekend.
- 1:36:35SPEAKER_11: Um, but you know, I there are or there have been a couple of wine and dine halves that you know have you know touched that, you know, pretty well.
- 1:36:43SPEAKER_11: So, you know, what one will have to keep their fingers crossed, that that's for sure.
- 1:36:47SPEAKER_11: So yeah.
- 1:36:48SPEAKER_16: I had this the thought of the coaster too for the courses that go through the galaxy's edge and thus kind of go by that sort of region, if it would be possible to do that as a coaster.
- 1:36:58SPEAKER_16: Um, but it would definitely be a fun achievement for those that like to collect the rides.
- 1:37:04SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 1:37:05SPEAKER_11: All right, now we have one more Disney World announcement, and we're gonna head back over to Epcot.
- 1:37:14SPEAKER_11: Ladies and gentlemen, our national nightmare is over.
- 1:37:18SPEAKER_11: Our boy Figment is finally getting some love.
- 1:37:22SPEAKER_11: It was this year's version of you know the part where Lexi lost her collective mind when they announced when they announced Villains Land two years ago.
- 1:37:33SPEAKER_11: You know, all of a sudden Thomas Maslin's back out on stage.
- 1:37:36SPEAKER_11: You think he's closing down the show, and then all of a sudden, sounds start happening and smoke's going off, and then you see this masked or this cloaked man behind the screen.
- 1:37:48SPEAKER_11: Now, the problem was the coat wasn't long enough.
- 1:37:50SPEAKER_11: You could see the purple pants, uh, but all of a sudden they rip off the jacket, and then lo and behold, Neil Patrick Harris is dressed as Dreamfinder, holding Figment, and they have you know, they have said now that the attraction is going to get a reimagining, and Dreamfinder is coming back.
- 1:38:12SPEAKER_11: That's all very, very exciting.
- 1:38:15SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm hoping it's a full-scale attraction and not and they don't cheap out like you were saying, Jack.
- 1:38:20SPEAKER_11: I hope this isn't just a cheap out where, oh, we're just gonna add Dreamfinder to the Figment meet and greet at you know at the end of the ride.
- 1:38:27SPEAKER_11: But I mean they did talk the attraction.
- 1:38:29SPEAKER_11: So that gives me hope.
- 1:38:31SPEAKER_11: The only Run Disney connection that I can see here is don't take away some of our favorite bathrooms in the world.
- 1:38:37SPEAKER_11: Um, you know, the the the Figment toilets right there.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_11: But again, you know, similar to how we talked about with Spaceship Earth, I think it's gonna be all dependent on positioning of construction walls.
- 1:38:48SPEAKER_11: So I don't think there's gonna be too much of an impact there.
- 1:38:52SPEAKER_11: But uh, Amanda, thoughts on Figment, you know, the the the one character that generates so much revenue for this company finally getting this due, what say you?
- 1:39:02SPEAKER_16: I'm not too worried about the bathrooms.
- 1:39:04SPEAKER_16: Like even if they were to take those bathrooms due to construction, there's so many other bathrooms in Epcot.
- 1:39:10SPEAKER_16: That's like the one park that has tons and tons of bathrooms.
- 1:39:13SPEAKER_16: Um, my question is because they've already announced Dreamfinder, they've already committed to this.
- 1:39:20SPEAKER_16: If they'll just pull an Easter egg and put him as a character on the course.
- 1:39:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
- 1:39:25SPEAKER_16: You know, even if he's not like one you can get in line for, they like put him up on um, you know, like a stage or something somewhere.
- 1:39:33SPEAKER_16: So you kind of just stand in front of.
- 1:39:35SPEAKER_16: But if that because that would be a really fun character Easter egg, and they do do that sometimes, where they'll take either a super rare character or something that you hardly ever see and put it on the course.
- 1:39:47SPEAKER_16: And now that they've kind of blessed Dreamfinder as being Disney Canon again, like seems like it could open the door to that.
- 1:39:55SPEAKER_11: No, that makes sense.
- 1:39:56SPEAKER_11: It almost similar to I forget what race it was, but I remember losing my mind when I saw Swedums out on the course.
- 1:40:03SPEAKER_11: And but of course, it you know, there was no line, it was just one of those like selfie station kind of situations.
- 1:40:09SPEAKER_11: So, but that that would be great, uh, a great homage once they uh, you know, once they figure out the costuming for that.
- 1:40:15SPEAKER_16: Yeah, because they brought out like the um Society of Explorers Adventures, the C people.
- 1:40:21SPEAKER_16: They've had um it was a few years ago, but the Citizens of Hollywood.
- 1:40:26SPEAKER_16: Yeah, I miss them.
- 1:40:28SPEAKER_16: And so even like when they're not in the parks, they have characters that no longer exist at the parks and they'll still bring them out on the course is kind of like, you know.
- 1:40:35SPEAKER_16: We know you still love them.
- 1:40:38SPEAKER_16: So I don't know.
- 1:40:40SPEAKER_16: My my fingers are crossed that we get to see Dreamfinder sooner rather than later if you were a runner.
- 1:40:46SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 1:40:46SPEAKER_11: Last topic that we're gonna just hit here, real, real quick.
- 1:40:50SPEAKER_11: And that is uh obviously, over the course of the evening, we got updates about Disneyland.
- 1:40:57SPEAKER_11: Obviously, lots of people are still very, very bummed that Run Disney West Coast is on hiatus, and I think the reason why it is on hiatus right now is because of what is being labeled as the Disneyland Forward Project.
- 1:41:14SPEAKER_11: I know our buddy Kelly that we had on uh a few months ago with our podcast listen to segment, he talked a lot about that project, about how essentially the entrance area, there's gonna be new parking garages and everything, is gonna be a massive undertaking at the resort.
- 1:41:29SPEAKER_11: But just a quick rundown of what happened uh in the parks panel.
- 1:41:34SPEAKER_11: We got a model of Avatar, but they really didn't talk a whole heck of a lot about it, which Jack, I remember on last week's episode, you and I chatted about is Avatar still gonna happen?
- 1:41:48SPEAKER_11: Because then there was a rumor about Avatar is dead and maybe Zootopia was gonna come in.
- 1:41:53SPEAKER_11: They were gonna bring that over uh from Shanghai.
- 1:41:56SPEAKER_11: So, again, enough of a model, but nothing really outside of that.
- 1:42:02SPEAKER_11: Uh, we got confirmation that the Coco attraction uh is a boat ride uh in Avengers Campus, got a few more updates in terms of both um the e-ticket attraction that features King Thanos and then the um Stark Flight Lab.
- 1:42:20SPEAKER_11: I was kind of shocked that with how quickly they put shovels into the ground with this project.
- 1:42:27SPEAKER_11: That was the only other timeline that we got that this is gonna be that the edition of the land will open sometime in 2028.
- 1:42:35SPEAKER_11: I thought for sure we were gonna get that next year.
- 1:42:38SPEAKER_11: And then, you know, as we alluded to before, Tomorrowland finally getting updated.
- 1:42:44SPEAKER_11: Probably for as much as Disney World people have complained about wanting Dreamfinder back or fixing the Yeti, the Disneyland people have just wanted something to happen with Tomorrowland.
- 1:42:55SPEAKER_11: So I'm glad to see that they will be getting that.
- 1:42:58SPEAKER_11: You know, the quote that was set on stage was new attractions, more open spaces, and new places for Disneyland guests to dream about the future.
- 1:43:08SPEAKER_11: Uh, we mentioned him earlier.
- 1:43:10SPEAKER_11: Uh theme park reporter Scott Guston reported that evening that the Tomorrowland transformation will begin once Avengers and Coco are complete, but it is being prioritized above Avatar, which again makes me think that maybe this project is dead.
- 1:43:30SPEAKER_11: They just don't want to say it yet.
- 1:43:33SPEAKER_11: The question is, will all this be done?
- 1:43:36SPEAKER_11: Because they already taught, even though they're like wrapping up Disneyland's 70th anniversary right now, they made a tie to Disneyland's 75th.
- 1:43:45SPEAKER_11: So my question is, will all this be done by the 75th?
- 1:43:49SPEAKER_11: And once it's all done, and this is the billion-dollar question does Run Disney come back to Anaheim?
- 1:43:57SPEAKER_16: I just at this point I feel like Paris is coming back before Disneyland.
- 1:44:03SPEAKER_16: That we'll see Coast uh or Castle de Chateau before we get coast to coast again.
- 1:44:08SPEAKER_16: Um but I'm trying not to be pessimistic about it because the Disneyland 5K was my all-time favorite.
- 1:44:14SPEAKER_08: Same! That is my favorite 5k and 10k I have ever ran.
- 1:44:19SPEAKER_16: They're both great, but just starting on Main Street and ending at Pixar Pier in the park was I'm like, okay, well, this is Disney Magic.
- 1:44:27SPEAKER_16: I'm I'm good.
- 1:44:28SPEAKER_08: Just here's the thing though.
- 1:44:32SPEAKER_08: If this is a big if, I still think that Pandora, they used one sentence during the entire D23 experience where they basically glazed over the fact that, oh, in our expansion for Pandora, I genuinely think they've had so many blue sky things until I see actual dirt and walls, you know, I don't think it's actually gonna happen personally.
- 1:44:56SPEAKER_08: I think they got too much going on, and I think it's gonna be something like how like they had all these wonderful ideas for you know, the parks in Epcot, and then COVID happened and things got scrapped.
- 1:45:06SPEAKER_08: I think budgets are gonna are gonna change a lot and it's gonna fluctuate with whatever the time is gonna be.
- 1:45:11SPEAKER_08: But even if they started building Pandora, in theory, and I know this is probably gonna negate what I said in 22 years ago, Greg, is the fact that if Avengers opens up, you still probably have that um pathway where you came up from behind where Guardians is at.
- 1:45:33SPEAKER_08: You don't have to go into the Hollywood area.
- 1:45:35SPEAKER_08: If that area is closed off, now we could potentially go into the new Avengers area and circle back around and come back through.
- 1:45:43SPEAKER_08: Because they're actually opening up that pathway between Avengers and um Carsland uh soon, too, is what I've heard as well.
- 1:45:51SPEAKER_08: So I I genuinely think that if like the ride cocoa isn't gonna make a difference if it's still being built or not, because it was never in the pathway for us to run it.
- 1:46:02SPEAKER_08: I genuinely think that if they wanted to open stuff up it's possible, and I think that's me just hoping on a hope.
- 1:46:13SPEAKER_08: Because I genuinely love those races so much, and people were in such high anticipation for it.
- 1:46:23SPEAKER_08: I do think that when it opened back up, I think people I think were there's a little bit a little bit more negative reviews because they were expecting, I don't know what it was like the expectation was.
- 1:46:36SPEAKER_16: The very first race back at Disneyland, it was a lot of negative um feedback.
- 1:46:41SPEAKER_16: Um at least that I had heard like people describing it to me.
- 1:46:45SPEAKER_16: Having done it myself, I didn't feel that way.
- 1:46:49SPEAKER_16: I actually really loved it.
- 1:46:50SPEAKER_16: Um, but I also went the last Halloween race, and I think the Halloween leaving leaned in because Disneyland is so good at Halloween.
- 1:46:58SPEAKER_16: It was unique race weekend, and they had a few under their belt to duck the knock the rest off and kind of get back into it.
- 1:47:04SPEAKER_16: Um, and I had the like expectation going in that the half course is going to be half in Anaheim, and that is not the bubble experience you get at Walt Disney World.
- 1:47:16SPEAKER_16: Um, so I think it was a little bit better expectations.
- 1:47:19SPEAKER_16: Um, but I I get what you're saying.
- 1:47:21SPEAKER_16: I wonder how Disney's calculating the the Run Disney aspect of it, given the feedback for the few years that it was returned.
- 1:47:28SPEAKER_08: I mean, in theory, they don't even have to do that much.
- 1:47:31SPEAKER_08: If they really wanted to put uh more money towards the stuff that they're building, all uh Disney, Run Disney is a great way to just bring in money for an entire weekend just to be able to put funds towards building something.
- 1:47:42SPEAKER_08: I mean, even Disneyland Paris, I mean, you can have a race out there easily.
- 1:47:47SPEAKER_08: Now with Adventure World out, like it is, you know how much mileage you can get out of that sucker?
- 1:47:52SPEAKER_08: I think that would be amazing.
- 1:47:54SPEAKER_08: You don't even need to go outside Disneyland Paris for very long.
- 1:47:57SPEAKER_08: I genuinely agree with you.
- 1:47:58SPEAKER_08: I think they should bring back that.
- 1:48:00SPEAKER_08: I do see that coming before Disneyland.
- 1:48:03SPEAKER_08: I think Disneyland will probably not see until like 2035.
- 1:48:08SPEAKER_16: I just I think it would be fine if they would do Disneyland and just dump the half.
- 1:48:13SPEAKER_16: Just be like, we're gonna do a special week.
- 1:48:15SPEAKER_16: It's a 5K, 10K, double, double header, and um, they don't have to deal as much with the permitting and closing roads in Anaheim.
- 1:48:23SPEAKER_16: They really can just keep it more to the bubble, um, much more minimal impact.
- 1:48:27SPEAKER_16: And those are the races everyone wants to do, anyways.
- 1:48:29SPEAKER_16: Exactly.
- 1:48:30SPEAKER_16: And the better courses.
- 1:48:31SPEAKER_16: So I I I hope when they do come back, they kind of reimagine or rethink what does racing in Disneyland look like?
- 1:48:38SPEAKER_16: Because Disneyland is a very different place, location, physical, everything from Walt Disney World.
- 1:48:45SPEAKER_16: So um I would love for them to make it their own thing.
- 1:48:50SPEAKER_16: And then I also want.
- 1:48:52SPEAKER_07: On that front, you could even do a 10K two different days.
- 1:48:55SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:48:56SPEAKER_07: And like not even have a half at all.
- 1:48:59SPEAKER_08: I I would literally fly from where I'm at here in Florida to California just to do a 5K and 10K at Disney.
- 1:49:05SPEAKER_08: I already did it once.
- 1:49:06SPEAKER_08: I do it again.
- 1:49:08SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:49:08SPEAKER_16: I think they could do something really, really cool that's unique.
- 1:49:12SPEAKER_16: And I'd like I love that they did the Halloween because they have the oogie boogie and all of that theming.
- 1:49:17SPEAKER_16: So just lean it to do the Avengers race because that's what's another unique thing from that coast.
- 1:49:22SPEAKER_16: Going back to the Avatar thing really quick.
- 1:49:24SPEAKER_16: I feel like they're in a little bit of a bind with that because isn't it like three movies?
- 1:49:29SPEAKER_16: And the last one, I don't know, because it was like it was gonna be five originally.
- 1:49:34SPEAKER_16: And they're like, the story could end at three, but we need to have enough demand in order to go do the other two.
- 1:49:40SPEAKER_16: And I just don't feel like that demand was there.
- 1:49:42SPEAKER_16: And the franchise as a whole is petering out.
- 1:49:45SPEAKER_16: And maybe this is just my the vibes I'm getting, and I'm totally wrong.
- 1:49:49SPEAKER_16: But Zootopia is now on this massive upswing, right?
- 1:49:53SPEAKER_16: Like a third movie.
- 1:49:55SPEAKER_16: Right.
- 1:49:55SPEAKER_16: Knocked out of the park for two, three is coming.
- 1:49:57SPEAKER_16: There's a lot more interest in it.
- 1:50:00SPEAKER_16: And then like physically, I think it fits in Hollywood Studios better because you have a bunch of warehouses and buildings and it's urban.
- 1:50:06SPEAKER_16: And I think that that urban nature of it works.
- 1:50:09SPEAKER_16: And then they've done it.
- 1:50:10SPEAKER_16: Like they've done one over in Shanghai.
- 1:50:12SPEAKER_16: So they can bring in all the learnings from that, but make it like the Zootopia 3 themed.
- 1:50:17SPEAKER_16: Um and it kind of gives it more, it almost feels like more longevity than Avatar would.
- 1:50:24SPEAKER_16: Um, and Avatar at least had the theming with Animal Kingdom for being conservation and all of that.
- 1:50:30SPEAKER_08: Putting it in DCA is just kind of like in theory, wouldn't it be crazy if they put they're like, oh yeah, and Pandora is coming, but that's another topic for later.
- 1:50:41SPEAKER_08: What if that topic, technically speaking, was oh, we decided to put it in Animal Kingdom instead?
- 1:50:46SPEAKER_08: Because duh, it makes more sense there.
- 1:50:49SPEAKER_11: And apparently there is an expansion pad for Pandora.
- 1:50:53SPEAKER_11: For both Pandora, and I think there's another one too, because I remember years ago hearing a rumor about them wanting to put some type of Lion King attraction in Hollywood, or yeah, in Hollywood studios, in Animal Kingdom.
- 1:51:06SPEAKER_11: So maybe if the ride that they're putting in in uh Disney's adventure world is successful, maybe that can make its way over.
- 1:51:14SPEAKER_11: But here we are, we're talking blue sky, just like the imagineering.
- 1:51:19SPEAKER_11: So, but that pretty much wraps up all of the announcements from D23.
- 1:51:24SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be very interesting to see how many of our predictions in terms of just the parks and the Run Disney Impact uh will come to fruition over the course of this next couple of years.
- 1:51:35SPEAKER_11: Amanda, we want to thank you so much again for uh joining us here.
- 1:51:39SPEAKER_11: Folks, make sure you are following Amanda at once upon a marathon on Instagram.
- 1:51:44SPEAKER_11: Check out her website, she's got amazing tools.
- 1:51:47SPEAKER_11: I reference her POT calculations all the time.
- 1:51:50SPEAKER_11: So make sure you go over and check it out.
- 1:51:52SPEAKER_11: Amanda, I do me a favor, already pencil in April 2028, so we can do this for the third time in two years.
- 1:52:00SPEAKER_11: But I'm hoping that we're talking to you well before then.
- 1:52:03SPEAKER_11: Thanks so much again for joining us.
- 1:52:04SPEAKER_16: Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:52:06SPEAKER_16: I love it.
- 1:52:07SPEAKER_10: Caution runner, change of topic ahead.
- 1:52:11SPEAKER_09: Great discussion, gang.
- 1:52:13SPEAKER_09: Uh a little over.
- 1:52:15SPEAKER_09: I mean, I love all of this, but as you can tell, I didn't have much to contribute.
- 1:52:19SPEAKER_09: You're out of my league.
- 1:52:20SPEAKER_09: I mean, I'm out of your league.
- 1:52:21SPEAKER_09: I mean, I'm not in your league.
- 1:52:23SPEAKER_09: I mean, different leagues.
- 1:52:25SPEAKER_09: I mean leagues colliding, uh, cats and dogs living together.
- 1:52:29SPEAKER_09: No, I'm sorry.
- 1:52:30SPEAKER_09: Mass hysteria.
- 1:52:31SPEAKER_11: Thank you for that, Bob.
- 1:52:32SPEAKER_11: The Ghostbusters harder than me really appreciate uh you saying that.
- 1:52:36SPEAKER_09: But I enjoyed, I enjoyed listening.
- 1:52:38SPEAKER_09: Thanks for all that.
- 1:52:39SPEAKER_09: Uh next Zoom, my friends, is tonight, August 20th.
- 1:52:45SPEAKER_09: Hope to see you there.
- 1:52:48SPEAKER_09: Our next EuroZoom, as I'm calling it.
- 1:52:52SPEAKER_09: Wednesday, September 2nd, 3 p.m.
- 1:52:56SPEAKER_09: Eastern Time.
- 1:52:57SPEAKER_09: The idea is to make it available to our friends in England and on the continent, and anywhere else in the world, that that's an uh more amenable time to.
- 1:53:10SPEAKER_09: Our 8 p.m.
- 1:53:12SPEAKER_09: Eastern time zooms on Thursday or wee dark early hours of the morning in most of Europe.
- 1:53:20SPEAKER_09: Upcoming episodes next week.
- 1:53:22SPEAKER_09: We have an interview.
- 1:53:23SPEAKER_09: We've recorded it already.
- 1:53:25SPEAKER_09: Dean Carnassus visited us for the Jeff Galloway tribute, but we had him back to talk about his unbelievable career.
- 1:53:34SPEAKER_09: It was a great experience, a lot of fun.
- 1:53:38SPEAKER_09: I hope you're going to enjoy that.
- 1:53:40SPEAKER_09: We'll have that for you next week.
- 1:53:43SPEAKER_09: And now please stand clear of the door.
- 1:53:50SPEAKER_09: It's time for a race report.
- 1:53:58SPEAKER_09: The race report is sponsored by our friend Thomas Stokes, Stokes Metabolic Training, Stokes.fit slash rise and run coaching is the site.
- 1:54:08SPEAKER_09: Tom's got those two great programs going right now.
- 1:54:11SPEAKER_09: And I'm sure given a little time, we'll get another challenge coming up here in the not too distant future.
- 1:54:18SPEAKER_09: We'll be sure to let you know when that happens.
- 1:54:20SPEAKER_09: Now, as you know, last week we were not live.
- 1:54:24SPEAKER_09: And it is important to us that we recognize everybody who takes the time to tell us that they were running or to tell us that they did run.
- 1:54:34SPEAKER_09: So I'm going to do the best I can to cover the last two weeks.
- 1:54:39SPEAKER_09: If I've missed you, it's because there were an awful lot of them in the last two weeks.
- 1:54:44SPEAKER_09: I did my best.
- 1:54:45SPEAKER_09: I'm also going to try to make these as brief as possible.
- 1:54:50SPEAKER_09: So here we go.
- 1:54:52SPEAKER_09: Let's start Wednesday, two weeks ago, in Rochester, New York.
- 1:54:58SPEAKER_09: Race three of three of the Run 585 Summer Series.
- 1:55:01SPEAKER_09: Matt ran the Hot Summer Nights 5K.
- 1:55:04SPEAKER_09: On Thursday, Jake and Steven were in Boston for the BAA Shoreline 5K.
- 1:55:13SPEAKER_09: Jake said it was hot.
- 1:55:14SPEAKER_09: It felt like 100 at race time.
- 1:55:16SPEAKER_09: Hot night in Boston.
- 1:55:17SPEAKER_09: Jake still finished in 28 minutes and 40 seconds.
- 1:55:21SPEAKER_09: Stephen left us this report.
- 1:55:24SPEAKER_00: Today I ran the BAA Shoreline 5K in South Boston.
- 1:55:32SPEAKER_00: I set a PR of 4424 despite like temperatures in the mid to high 80s.
- 1:55:43SPEAKER_00: And we were advised not to try for a PR, but I said PR anyway.
- 1:55:47SPEAKER_00: Anyway, thank you.
- 1:55:49SPEAKER_00: I'll be at the uh wine and dine uh doing the 10K, and uh hopefully I'll see you then.
- 1:55:55SPEAKER_00: Take care.
- 1:55:55SPEAKER_09: Also on Thursday in Lake Placid, the Thursday Night Hustle Five 5K, Rob was there.
- 1:56:01SPEAKER_09: Mount Von Hovenburg, the home of so many amazing summer and winter activities in Lake Placid.
- 1:56:08SPEAKER_09: He was pleased with his sub-32-minute finish time.
- 1:56:11SPEAKER_09: On Friday, Robert did that Williamsburg Bridge Marathon, which I was hoping we would hear about.
- 1:56:18SPEAKER_09: That was the one with the you didn't know what distance it was going to be till it started, but I didn't see a report.
- 1:56:24SPEAKER_11: I think I think he put something in the Discord.
- 1:56:27SPEAKER_11: My memory is probably off on this, but I want to say the distance was 21 miles.
- 1:56:35SPEAKER_09: Wow, wow, wow.
- 1:56:36SPEAKER_09: Because the way the distribution was set up, it was most likely to be around 10, but that's that's interesting.
- 1:56:41SPEAKER_09: Uh hope Robert, hope you had fun.
- 1:56:43SPEAKER_09: Hope you did well.
- 1:56:44SPEAKER_09: Uh Lola was in Tallahassee for the Beer Fest Beer Mile, an afternoon race in Tallahassee on a Friday.
- 1:56:53SPEAKER_09: Ugh.
- 1:56:54SPEAKER_09: I was only a one miler, though.
- 1:56:56SPEAKER_09: But to make it interesting, one beer every quarter mile.
- 1:57:00SPEAKER_09: Their group won three awards: best costume, best group costume, and best cookies tossed after a beer every quarter.
- 1:57:10SPEAKER_09: Who's the judge of that one?
- 1:57:10SPEAKER_09: That's what I want to know.
- 1:57:12SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:57:13SPEAKER_09: That's a great question, John.
- 1:57:15SPEAKER_09: She did not say.
- 1:57:17SPEAKER_09: Uh, Saturday last week, the New York Roadrunners Percy Sutton Harlem 5K, Divya and Caitlin ran that.
- 1:57:24SPEAKER_09: Madison, Wisconsin had the Madison Mini Marathon.
- 1:57:28SPEAKER_09: Tara and Carlos said the course takes you to some of Madison, Madison's best sites.
- 1:57:35SPEAKER_09: Nice way to spend a summer morning.
- 1:57:37SPEAKER_09: Ben was there.
- 1:57:39SPEAKER_09: Ben's first ever sub-three hour half marathon and a 14-minute PR.
- 1:57:49SPEAKER_09: There was a Taco Bell run.
- 1:57:51SPEAKER_09: I don't have where.
- 1:57:53SPEAKER_09: At a 12, a 24 and a 50k.
- 1:57:55SPEAKER_09: Melody did it.
- 1:57:56SPEAKER_09: She ran a new distance PR of 27 miles.
- 1:58:01SPEAKER_09: Ran the first eight-mile loop in a pinata suit for the Taco Bell run.
- 1:58:07SPEAKER_09: In Houston, Jennifer did the Watermelon Dash 5K series.
- 1:58:12SPEAKER_09: 38 minute, 55 seconds, not a PR, but pretty happy getting that under 40 minutes.
- 1:58:17SPEAKER_09: Her husband, Steve, also ran the 5K.
- 1:58:20SPEAKER_09: He didn't think it went well.
- 1:58:22SPEAKER_09: And yet he came in third in his age group.
- 1:58:27SPEAKER_09: Good job, Steve and Jennifer.
- 1:58:30SPEAKER_09: In Seattle, they had the obliterated 5K.
- 1:58:34SPEAKER_09: Jenny was there.
- 1:58:35SPEAKER_09: She walked it with her fellow University of Washington cancer researchers and some patient partners.
- 1:58:43SPEAKER_09: It was a great two-day celebration there in Seattle.
- 1:58:46SPEAKER_09: And in Elkhart, Indiana, they had the Grand Prix 5K.
- 1:58:50SPEAKER_09: Marnie and her father Gus ran this pretty course in downtown Elkhart.
- 1:58:56SPEAKER_09: They had the street cart races afterward.
- 1:58:59SPEAKER_09: They did well, felt really good after the race.
- 1:59:02SPEAKER_09: There was a race series 10K in Akron, Ohio, the Akron Marathon Race Series.
- 1:59:09SPEAKER_09: Michael did it.
- 1:59:10SPEAKER_09: His first 10K, that's a PR.
- 1:59:14SPEAKER_09: And Lori, who's been telling us about her post-knee replacement PRs, set a lifetime 10K PR.
- 1:59:24SPEAKER_09: Great job, Lori.
- 1:59:25SPEAKER_09: And Michael, congratulations to both of you.
- 1:59:29SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 1:59:30SPEAKER_09: In DeWriter, New York, the Tromptown Half Marathon.
- 1:59:35SPEAKER_09: Zach did it finished in about two hours 13 minutes.
- 1:59:39SPEAKER_09: Also came with a nice pancake breakfast afterwards.
- 1:59:44SPEAKER_09: Let's go to Sunday from last week now.
- 1:59:46SPEAKER_09: Virginia Beach, the Surf and Sand 5K, Rick and Beth Andrews.
- 1:59:50SPEAKER_09: They sent us this race report.
- 1:59:53SPEAKER_12: Hi there, Rise and Run crew.
- 1:59:55SPEAKER_12: This is Rick calling from Virginia Beach, Virginia.
- 1:59:58SPEAKER_12: We had five family runners.
- 2:00:01SPEAKER_12: My wife, Beth, and her sister Tracy ran their, they've run 5Ks before, but not together.
- 2:00:08SPEAKER_12: They are preparing for the Princess Half Marathon this coming winter.
- 2:00:13SPEAKER_12: And this is the first time they would practice their run walk pacing together.
- 2:00:17SPEAKER_12: It went really well.
- 2:00:19SPEAKER_12: They finished in uh 4136, 1322 per mile pace.
- 2:00:26SPEAKER_12: They were super excited.
- 2:00:27SPEAKER_12: Henry, the 14-year-old nephew, had never run a 5K.
- 2:00:31SPEAKER_12: He decided to jump in, and he had to finish a minute ahead of his mom and his aunt.
- 2:00:37SPEAKER_12: And then my daughter decided to join me at the last minute.
- 2:00:41SPEAKER_12: We took a nice leisure stroll.
- 2:00:43SPEAKER_12: She was fighting a head cold, but we did a 3350 for the 5K.
- 2:00:47SPEAKER_12: It was a beautiful morning.
- 2:00:49SPEAKER_12: There was lots of heat, lots of humidity, but also plenty of shade and a breeze and a really enjoyable event.
- 2:00:55SPEAKER_12: And we may have had one other rise and run uh disciple there because there was a lady in front of us at the start who had on stitch running shoes.
- 2:01:04SPEAKER_12: So she at least knows something about Run Disney.
- 2:01:06SPEAKER_12: Anyway, there's that's the report for now, and I will talk to you later.
- 2:01:10SPEAKER_09: Moving on to Colchester, Connecticut, where Nancy did the Run the Vineyards 5K.
- 2:01:15SPEAKER_09: 61 towns out of 169.
- 2:01:20SPEAKER_09: Ran with her oldest daughter, who was visiting from South Carolina.
- 2:01:24SPEAKER_09: Always nice to hear that.
- 2:01:25SPEAKER_09: The uh race series in Claremont, Florida, the Cool Summer Mornings Series.
- 2:01:31SPEAKER_09: This is race number three.
- 2:01:32SPEAKER_09: 5K, Mary Joe took a minute off of last month's time.
- 2:01:37SPEAKER_09: Jody was there.
- 2:01:38SPEAKER_09: Carrie finished smack dab in the middle of the pack.
- 2:01:42SPEAKER_09: So great medal for this one.
- 2:01:43SPEAKER_09: And Heather was there.
- 2:01:45SPEAKER_09: Now, somehow, these races get great themes.
- 2:01:49SPEAKER_09: This one had a dragon theme.
- 2:01:50SPEAKER_09: Somehow, Heather failed to come up with a dragon costume, but her dad, Stuart, pulled off another PR.
- 2:01:59SPEAKER_09: That's two in two weeks for Stuart.
- 2:02:02SPEAKER_09: Outstanding.
- 2:02:04SPEAKER_09: In Cincinnati, they held the inaugural Cincinnati Open 5K.
- 2:02:08SPEAKER_09: I think this is in conjunction with a tennis tournament.
- 2:02:12SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 2:02:12SPEAKER_09: Carol was there 500 participants, and she notes that, in fact, it was this 5K added to this major tennis tournament that's going on in Ohio.
- 2:02:25SPEAKER_09: In the city of Preston in the northwest of England, Ian ran a 10-mile there.
- 2:02:32SPEAKER_09: And Vanessa did the Tunnel Vision Marathon in Hayek, Washington.
- 2:02:38SPEAKER_09: She tripped at mile 20, banged herself up pretty good, but she still finished.
- 2:02:44SPEAKER_09: She does recommend the race.
- 2:02:47SPEAKER_09: She just doesn't recommend tripping.
- 2:02:49SPEAKER_09: Good job, Vanessa.
- 2:02:51SPEAKER_09: Monday last week, uh, that five-miler at Jones Beach, New York, Eileen, did that.
- 2:02:57SPEAKER_09: And we turned the corner because on Wednesday in London, Jessica ran a Chase the Sun Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 5K.
- 2:03:08SPEAKER_09: Jessica's on vacation, found this 5K, ran it very warm morning, but finished with a 17-second PR.
- 2:03:17SPEAKER_09: Oh, wait, wait, wait.
- 2:03:18SPEAKER_09: This is in London.
- 2:03:19SPEAKER_09: A 17-second PB.
- 2:03:22SPEAKER_09: All right, now let's go to this week's events, and we'll start on Saturday in Orlando, the Track Shack Fanatic Series race one, celebration of running 5K.
- 2:03:34SPEAKER_09: This is the sixth race series that goes through the fall and even into the springtime there in Orlando.
- 2:03:42SPEAKER_09: Tracy, Tracy's an ambassador, a Track Shack ambassador for this one.
- 2:03:46SPEAKER_09: If you want to run one of these events, Alan 10.
- 2:03:51SPEAKER_09: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 2:03:53SPEAKER_09: Tracy5, Tracy5, T-R-A-C-Y, Tracy 5, will save you$5 off of most registrations.
- 2:04:02SPEAKER_09: Uh Heather was there for this one, rolling, not the easiest course for wheels, but really enjoyed seeing a lot of her friends.
- 2:04:08SPEAKER_09: And Holly was there.
- 2:04:10SPEAKER_09: Holly's one of the friends that Heather saw at the finish line.
- 2:04:14SPEAKER_09: Out in Seattle, they had a one step closer, three, six, twelve, or eighteen-hour looped run event.
- 2:04:24SPEAKER_09: Lace Hera and Sarah ran the 12-hour option.
- 2:04:31SPEAKER_09: The course ran along Puget Sound.
- 2:04:34SPEAKER_09: Stunning views.
- 2:04:34SPEAKER_09: Won an easy course.
- 2:04:36SPEAKER_09: They did get to eat, and I quote, tons of food.
- 2:04:40SPEAKER_09: Lace and Hera ran 15 loops.
- 2:04:42SPEAKER_09: That's 50 kilometers.
- 2:04:44SPEAKER_09: Very impressive.
- 2:04:45SPEAKER_09: They'll do this one again.
- 2:04:46SPEAKER_09: Vanessa was supposed to run this one, but I mentioned earlier, Vanessa fell on her marathon the week before, and she was still too banged up to participate.
- 2:04:54SPEAKER_09: Hope you're doing better, Vanessa.
- 2:04:56SPEAKER_11: I still love that that West Coast crew continues to get together for all those races.
- 2:05:02SPEAKER_11: Uh I think it's special that again, you know, these people would have never met if it weren't for this community.
- 2:05:08SPEAKER_11: And I think that's why we continue to sit behind these microphones every single week because we just love seeing the bonds that are created.
- 2:05:15SPEAKER_11: So excellent job, ladies.
- 2:05:16SPEAKER_09: 100%.
- 2:05:17SPEAKER_09: 100%.
- 2:05:18SPEAKER_09: I it it does my heart good.
- 2:05:22SPEAKER_09: Also at this event now, Kim, Kimberly and Josh were there.
- 2:05:26SPEAKER_09: Kim ran 23 laps, just a little over 50 miles.
- 2:05:30SPEAKER_09: Uh Josh did the three out, three-hour option, finished three laps.
- 2:05:34SPEAKER_09: I think at one point on this loop, there were actually stairs that had to be climbed.
- 2:05:39SPEAKER_09: So a little bit of a challenge in this, the loop on this course.
- 2:05:42SPEAKER_09: Let's see, Brennan and Nikhil ran the TCS New York City Marathon Training Series 12 Miler in Central Park.
- 2:05:50SPEAKER_09: Carrie was in West Virginia for the Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon, her most challenging half yet, but she knocked it out.
- 2:06:01SPEAKER_09: In Springville, Alabama, Holly ran the Run for the Parks 5K.
- 2:06:07SPEAKER_09: Course ran right past her dad and sister's neighborhood, and Holly set a 5K PR.
- 2:06:16SPEAKER_09: Bryce did an ultra, the black copperhead sting 50K in Belmont, North Carolina.
- 2:06:23SPEAKER_09: First Ultra.
- 2:06:25SPEAKER_09: Well, there's a PR.
- 2:06:28SPEAKER_09: Tough day with the heat and humidity.
- 2:06:30SPEAKER_09: I'm trying to imagine doing a 50K in North Carolina this time of year.
- 2:06:35SPEAKER_09: But Bryce is beyond proud of himself, and he should be.
- 2:06:42SPEAKER_09: And finally, let's head to Sunday and go way up north.
- 2:06:48SPEAKER_09: Let's start in Anchorage, Alaska.
- 2:06:52SPEAKER_09: It was Anchorage Run Fest weekend.
- 2:06:55SPEAKER_09: We had a couple people there, amongst them our friend Brooke.
- 2:06:59SPEAKER_09: And Brooke is doing us a favor and stopping off mid-mid-trip as she returns from Anchorage to Nashville.
- 2:07:09SPEAKER_09: She's in the airport in Seattle and she's stopped by to join us on the spotlight.
- 2:07:13SPEAKER_09: Brooke, thanks for doing that.
- 2:07:15SPEAKER_09: How are you doing?
- 2:07:16SPEAKER_06: Doing pretty good.
- 2:07:17SPEAKER_06: Just a long day of travel.
- 2:07:18SPEAKER_06: How are y'all doing?
- 2:07:20SPEAKER_09: We're fine, thanks.
- 2:07:21SPEAKER_09: We're we're probably, I'll speak for myself, a little warmer than you are, but that's okay.
- 2:07:28SPEAKER_09: Uh gosh, Anchorage, great race.
- 2:07:32SPEAKER_09: We'll get to it in a minute, but you know we have a standard opening question for our spotlight friends.
- 2:07:39SPEAKER_09: And that is, Brooke, how did you get started running?
- 2:07:43SPEAKER_06: Well, I did one and dine 5K, not this past year, but the year before.
- 2:07:49SPEAKER_06: And one of my work friends had actually messaged me that I ended up working on the same unit at um at our hospital.
- 2:07:58SPEAKER_06: And she's done a lot of them.
- 2:08:01SPEAKER_06: And so she was uh we talked about it.
- 2:08:03SPEAKER_06: So then I was just asking a bunch of questions and ended up signing up for springtime surprise challenge before we even left that weekend because I just had a good time of my life.
- 2:08:15SPEAKER_09: That's great.
- 2:08:16SPEAKER_09: But let me back up a little.
- 2:08:18SPEAKER_09: That's how you got started.
- 2:08:19SPEAKER_09: You got started by saying, I'm gonna do one and nine 5K.
- 2:08:22SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 2:08:23SPEAKER_06: I just went on a whim because I had tried to get into Princess because that's the only one I'd really heard about before.
- 2:08:29SPEAKER_06: And then once I got down there, I just loved it, loved the atmosphere and love the community.
- 2:08:34SPEAKER_09: And oh, absolutely.
- 2:08:36SPEAKER_06: Now I'm addicted.
- 2:08:38SPEAKER_09: Well, that's great.
- 2:08:39SPEAKER_09: And we're glad you're part of the family.
- 2:08:40SPEAKER_09: That's awesome.
- 2:08:41SPEAKER_09: But no, no running in uh college or high school or just boom, I'm doing this.
- 2:08:47SPEAKER_06: I'm in high school, I danced very competitively, but I graduated high school in 2011.
- 2:08:53SPEAKER_06: So I hadn't run since then.
- 2:08:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I I know you think that's a long I know you think that's a long time ago.
- 2:09:01SPEAKER_14: Oh, good for you.
- 2:09:02SPEAKER_14: This is the Anchorage Half.
- 2:09:04SPEAKER_14: Uh I mean, this is a little far for you to go.
- 2:09:08SPEAKER_14: What made you think about doing the Anchorage Half Marathon?
- 2:09:11SPEAKER_06: So anyone that knows me knows I love a good reason to travel and travel to a new state.
- 2:09:16SPEAKER_06: And most everyone I know, friend-wise, and most of my family's military.
- 2:09:21SPEAKER_06: So my cousin is stationed in Anchorage, and she texted me while I was running the Indy Mini, so just in May, and was like, Hey, I just signed up for my first half in Anchorage, and I said, Hey, I'll come run it with you.
- 2:09:35SPEAKER_06: So I went and ran it with her.
- 2:09:38SPEAKER_09: Great.
- 2:09:38SPEAKER_09: Army or Air Force?
- 2:09:40SPEAKER_06: Um, she's actually in the Coast Guard.
- 2:09:42SPEAKER_09: Coast Guard.
- 2:09:43SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's even I'm not gonna say it's even better, but that is that's awesome.
- 2:09:47SPEAKER_09: Some great Coast Guard assignments.
- 2:09:48SPEAKER_09: I imagine Anchorage is an exciting Coast Guard assignment.
- 2:09:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but they stay busy.
- 2:09:53SPEAKER_09: You headed up there, that's terrific.
- 2:09:56SPEAKER_09: Well, what was traveling like besides long?
- 2:09:59SPEAKER_06: Um, it was it was just long.
- 2:10:02SPEAKER_06: Um you can't get a direct flight to Nashville, and so I'm used to direct flights and that was different, but it wasn't too bad.
- 2:10:11SPEAKER_09: What's the time change this time of year?
- 2:10:14SPEAKER_09: Five hours?
- 2:10:15SPEAKER_09: Right now in Nashville, I think it's Nashville's in central time, right?
- 2:10:19SPEAKER_06: It's three hours behind Nashville.
- 2:10:21SPEAKER_09: Oh, that Anchorage is only three hours behind.
- 2:10:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:10:24SPEAKER_06: So four behind y'all.
- 2:10:26SPEAKER_09: Oh wow.
- 2:10:27SPEAKER_09: I didn't know that.
- 2:10:29SPEAKER_09: I thought, well, regardless.
- 2:10:31SPEAKER_09: Um what was the weather like up there this time of year?
- 2:10:35SPEAKER_06: It was perfect.
- 2:10:36SPEAKER_06: So before I left, it was supposed to rain every day, and she warned me they're like ending the raining season.
- 2:10:42SPEAKER_06: Um, the only day it rained, it rained the morning of the half, and then it rained that night, but it was anywhere between mid-50s to low 70s, but it was perfect.
- 2:10:53SPEAKER_06: Couldn't have asked for better weather.
- 2:10:55SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's exciting.
- 2:10:56SPEAKER_09: I think people who have never been there visualize Alaska as being cold all the time.
- 2:11:02SPEAKER_09: And they have summer.
- 2:11:04SPEAKER_06: Yes, it they do.
- 2:11:06SPEAKER_06: I that was me.
- 2:11:07SPEAKER_06: I imagine snow on the ground, and we actually went paddleboarding and I've never been paddleboarding.
- 2:11:12SPEAKER_06: So to do it in Anchorage, Alaska for the very first time is kind of weird.
- 2:11:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, now the water stays pretty cold.
- 2:11:18SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 2:11:20SPEAKER_06: Water was very cold, but it felt good with the sun.
- 2:11:24SPEAKER_14: Let's tell us about this race.
- 2:11:25SPEAKER_14: What do you guys run by?
- 2:11:26SPEAKER_14: Is there any cool sights that you go see?
- 2:11:30SPEAKER_06: So you start in downtown Anchorage and you really don't even run a mile and you run towards the coast.
- 2:11:36SPEAKER_06: Um, and where we started on the coast, it's like a coastal trail.
- 2:11:41SPEAKER_06: Um, it was by the train station.
- 2:11:44SPEAKER_06: And so then you run down and you run through a very pretty park and you have the mountains as the backdrop.
- 2:11:51SPEAKER_06: Um, it's a very small trail.
- 2:11:53SPEAKER_06: There's a half marathon, um, a 49K ultra going on.
- 2:12:00SPEAKER_06: And a marathon all squished into this little trail.
- 2:12:04SPEAKER_06: So and it was an out and back.
- 2:12:07SPEAKER_06: So that was a little tough.
- 2:12:08SPEAKER_06: They also did not close it off.
- 2:12:10SPEAKER_06: So there was a ton of bicyclers.
- 2:12:13SPEAKER_06: And yeah, and people do this race to qualify for Boston.
- 2:12:17SPEAKER_06: And so a lot of them were upset because the bikes, like there was a ton of bites, so they were all on the way.
- 2:12:24SPEAKER_06: But yeah, it was very pretty.
- 2:12:26SPEAKER_06: Um they only had three water stops.
- 2:12:29SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, so that was interesting.
- 2:12:32SPEAKER_06: And then the other interesting thing was at the end of the race, uh, we're all spoiled running for Run Disney.
- 2:12:38SPEAKER_06: Um, we got a like four-ounce solo cup of water, and you got a fourth of banana, and that was it.
- 2:12:46SPEAKER_14: A fourth of a banana?
- 2:12:48SPEAKER_06: Yes, not even a full banana.
- 2:12:50SPEAKER_06: There's some other fruit like snacks.
- 2:12:52SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, so that was interesting.
- 2:12:56SPEAKER_09: I think it's neat that they have a 49k there because they're very proud of being the 49th state.
- 2:13:01SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 2:13:02SPEAKER_09: That's unique.
- 2:13:03SPEAKER_09: Uh a lot of a lot of PRs set at that 49k race.
- 2:13:07SPEAKER_09: That's a good one.
- 2:13:08SPEAKER_14: Speaking of PRs, did you get a PR this week?
- 2:13:11SPEAKER_06: No, I actually haven't been able to run the past three weeks, and I wasn't supposed to be clear till tomorrow, but my doctor told me it was okay to go ahead and run it.
- 2:13:20SPEAKER_06: So I just PR'd in fun.
- 2:13:23SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's perfect.
- 2:13:24SPEAKER_09: But you you did mention a PR in scenery.
- 2:13:28SPEAKER_09: What were some of the sites?
- 2:13:29SPEAKER_09: You talked about the mountains a little bit.
- 2:13:31SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 2:13:33SPEAKER_06: Coastal trail itself, just like looking over the ocean with the mountains was beautiful.
- 2:13:38SPEAKER_06: Um, and then you got the train going in.
- 2:13:40SPEAKER_06: Um, some people saw a moose.
- 2:13:42SPEAKER_06: I did not see a moose.
- 2:13:44SPEAKER_06: Um they said this was actually the least amount of wildlife seen on the um trail this year.
- 2:13:52SPEAKER_09: That might that might be good.
- 2:13:54SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 2:13:55SPEAKER_09: If we go back about four years, we we were talking before we pressed the record button.
- 2:14:00SPEAKER_09: Um our friend, no, we I we think it's our friend Shalen.
- 2:14:04SPEAKER_09: She saw a bear kind of up close.
- 2:14:08SPEAKER_09: I'm not sure.
- 2:14:09SPEAKER_09: I'm not sure I that would have been that exciting.
- 2:14:12SPEAKER_06: No, I would have not been excited if that happened.
- 2:14:15SPEAKER_14: You would had that PR.
- 2:14:17SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:14:19SPEAKER_06: Very much so.
- 2:14:21SPEAKER_01: Did you spend any time?
- 2:14:23SPEAKER_01: Did you spend any time in Anchorage?
- 2:14:24SPEAKER_01: Get to see the city at all?
- 2:14:26SPEAKER_06: Um, we did a lot more in Eagle River.
- 2:14:28SPEAKER_06: Um, so we went and did paddleboarding at two different glaciers.
- 2:14:32SPEAKER_06: I can't pronounce the names of them.
- 2:14:35SPEAKER_06: Um that in itself was worth it.
- 2:14:38SPEAKER_06: Downtown Anchorage is actually not the best place to be.
- 2:14:41SPEAKER_06: I didn't know that till I traveled there.
- 2:14:44SPEAKER_06: Um, and there's not a lot to do.
- 2:14:46SPEAKER_06: But once you go outside, there's we did hikes.
- 2:14:50SPEAKER_06: Um, and then I went on a glacier excursion type thing.
- 2:14:56SPEAKER_06: Um, but we spent a lot of time outside and it was just pretty going around and doing all the hikes and entrails and stuff.
- 2:15:03SPEAKER_09: Sounds like fun.
- 2:15:03SPEAKER_09: It is a a fabulously beautiful place.
- 2:15:08SPEAKER_09: Uh it's been many, many years since I've been there, but I'll never forget that.
- 2:15:12SPEAKER_14: What's up next?
- 2:15:13SPEAKER_14: And when are we going to see you at Disney next?
- 2:15:15SPEAKER_06: So the next race will be Dollywood because I'm doing a half every month.
- 2:15:21SPEAKER_06: Um, Dollywood will be, yeah.
- 2:15:23SPEAKER_06: So Dollywood is the next one, and then I'll be at Wine and Dine, and then I'm running my first dopey.
- 2:15:28SPEAKER_09: Ah a girl, good for you.
- 2:15:30SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 2:15:31SPEAKER_09: Keep keep doing the trick keep doing the training.
- 2:15:33SPEAKER_09: I know you will.
- 2:15:34SPEAKER_09: I can I can tell you what you're trained up now.
- 2:15:36SPEAKER_14: So uh quick quickly, you say you're doing half a month.
- 2:15:40SPEAKER_14: So how long has this been going on?
- 2:15:41SPEAKER_06: So I ran my first half last year at Disneyland Halloween.
- 2:15:47SPEAKER_06: So it started I ran that one and then I just finished my ninth one.
- 2:15:51SPEAKER_06: I skipped June this year, um, just because it was too hot.
- 2:15:55SPEAKER_06: So I did miss one month, but I started really in January of like this actual year.
- 2:16:01SPEAKER_09: So any kind of a 50 state goal for you?
- 2:16:06SPEAKER_06: So one of my friends um has mentioned that.
- 2:16:10SPEAKER_06: And so I kind of was like, well, I've already gotten some of them, so why not try to reach it?
- 2:16:15SPEAKER_01: You got the tough one.
- 2:16:17SPEAKER_06: Yep, and that's what everyone kept saying.
- 2:16:18SPEAKER_06: Alaska of all places, that's the one you're gonna check off first.
- 2:16:21SPEAKER_06: That's the first, but invention.
- 2:16:24SPEAKER_09: But that's uh that's the tough one in terms of distance and expense, I think.
- 2:16:28SPEAKER_09: Hawaii obviously is next.
- 2:16:30SPEAKER_06: Yes, Brooke.
- 2:16:31SPEAKER_09: Hey, safe travels for the rest of your trip back to Nashville.
- 2:16:36SPEAKER_09: Thank you so much for finding some time to sit down and chat with you.
- 2:16:41SPEAKER_09: It's been a lot of fun, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
- 2:16:45SPEAKER_06: All right, look forward to seeing y'all too.
- 2:16:48SPEAKER_09: Thanks, Brooke.
- 2:16:48SPEAKER_09: Uh Sam and Emily also ran the half there.
- 2:16:52SPEAKER_09: They, as Brooke said, commented the weather was perfect.
- 2:16:55SPEAKER_09: Definitely recommend this one.
- 2:16:57SPEAKER_09: Now, Emily has knocked out state 36.
- 2:17:00SPEAKER_09: Looks like she's chasing a race in all 50 states.
- 2:17:04SPEAKER_09: Uh Teresa's in San Diego for the Americans Finest City San Diego half marathon.
- 2:17:10SPEAKER_09: Rachel ran the Shark Week Showdown 5K in Fort Worth.
- 2:17:16SPEAKER_09: Kara did the Summer Sensation 5K in Long Beach, California.
- 2:17:20SPEAKER_09: She was headed to Disneyland for her daughter Ellen's first trip and found this race, took the whole family on the race, had a great time.
- 2:17:30SPEAKER_09: We wrap up two weeks of race reports in Falmouth, Massachusetts for the Falmouth Road Race 7 Miler.
- 2:17:38SPEAKER_09: Once again, our buddy Jake's back at it.
- 2:17:40SPEAKER_09: 52nd running of this race that goes along the Cape Cod Coast.
- 2:17:44SPEAKER_09: Entire weekend's a party.
- 2:17:46SPEAKER_09: Uh, Jake didn't have the race he wanted, knowing Jake it probably was pretty darn good anyway.
- 2:17:52SPEAKER_09: But uh he highly recommends this event.
- 2:17:54SPEAKER_09: And there we have it, friends, the race report for episodes 255 and 256 of the Rise and Run podcast.
- 2:18:02SPEAKER_09: Friends, and if you run, you know you are our friend.
- 2:18:05SPEAKER_09: And if you're still with us, you are a friend who has great endurance.
- 2:18:09SPEAKER_09: Thank you for joining us.
- 2:18:10SPEAKER_09: Hope you enjoyed this.
- 2:18:11SPEAKER_09: Hope you enjoyed the look at what's going along at Disney with uh all the news out of D23.
- 2:18:18SPEAKER_09: Stick with it.
- 2:18:19SPEAKER_09: We know the training's getting tough.
- 2:18:21SPEAKER_09: More to come.
- 2:18:22SPEAKER_09: You can do it till we see you again, which hopefully will be fairly soon.
