- 0:07On Monday, October 15, 1962, the New York Yankees faced the San Francisco Giants at Candlestick Park for Game 6 of the 1962 World Series.
- 0:16The Yankees led the series three games to two after a tom trash at a three-run home on the bottom of the eighth to break a tie in Game 5.
- 0:23This audio recording is from the NBC Radio broadcast featuring announcers George Kell and Joe Gargiola.
- 0:30This is Joe Gargiola, along with George Kell welcoming you to the sixth game of the 1962 World Series.
- 0:37This afternoon, the sixth game of the 1962 World Series, and it'll be Whitey Ford against Billy Pierce.
- 0:45And I'm sure that that comes as no news to anybody because you talk about stories being filed out of San Francisco during the rain we had here.
- 0:52Everybody kept wondering whether there would be a psychological edge, whether the pitching changes would stay the same, would they change.
- 1:00But here they are this afternoon, and just as both managers stated, Whitey Ford for the Yankees and Billy Pierce for the San Francisco Giants on a beautiful afternoon here in San Francisco.
- 1:12The sun is very bright here. The temperature, around 65.
- 1:16I expect it to go into the middle 70s as the afternoon goes on, and it should be a beautiful day for baseball here at Candlestick Park.
- 1:24Neither ball club took batting practice. Both ball clubs took infield practice, and those outfielders really pay attention to the skip of the ball off the infield and the outfield grass.
- 1:33Bear in mind that the infield grass has been cut, but it is slow.
- 1:37Still a bit damp. The dirt part of the infield is in great shape. The outfield is still a bit soggy, and behind home plate and near both dugouts is still a bit wet.
- 1:47But the field is in good condition.
- 1:49And this broadcast is authorized under broadcasting rights granted by the Commissioner of Baseball solely for the entertainment of our listening audience.
- 1:56In any publication, rebroadcasts are of the use of the descriptions and accounts of this game without the express consent of the Commissioner is prohibited.
- 2:03At any rate, it is the sixth game, something that we were beginning to doubt.
- 2:07And George, when I look at Whitey Ford warming up and Billy Pierce warming up, I golly it is the sixth game.
- 2:14And I know yesterday you were wondering whether we'd ever get it off the ground.
- 2:17It looked that way at one time out here in San Francisco, but we're ready to go today.
- 2:22Billy Pierce continues to warm up with this Whitey Ford, and both pitchers have faced each other all during their careers.
- 2:29In this series, this will be the third start for Whitey Ford.
- 2:33And when you talk to Whitey about Scott and report, he said all he wants to know is whether a high ball or low ball hitters.
- 2:37And he certainly has his own book on each giant because he's pitched against them twice already in this series.
- 2:42For Billy Pierce, this is the second game in the series for him.
- 2:45Billy is pitched against the Yankees many, many times, and he mixes them up, moves the ball around.
- 2:50If he's got good control, he'll be pitching down.
- 2:52And here are the lineups.
- 2:53For the New York Yankees, leading off it'll be Tony Kubeck at shortstop, Kubeck shortstop.
- 2:59Batting second, it'll be the second baseman, Bobby Richardson.

- 3:22And batting eighth, it's the third baseman, Pete Boyer.

- 3:30Ford is the pitcher.
- 3:32There goes the Giants on the field.
- 3:34And lining up for the Giants, it'll be Marvie Keane to lead it off in left field.
- 3:38Batting second, it's Cuckillar at second base.
- 3:41Batting third, the right fielder, Philippe Ballot.
- 3:44Batting fourth, the center fielder, Willie Mays.

- 3:56Bailey, the catcher.
- 3:57Batting eighth, Jose Pagan, the shortstop.
- 4:00And batting ninth, it's Billy Pierce, the pitcher.
- 4:03Billy Pierce against Whitey Ford.
- 4:06Billy Pierce just making his way from the Giants dugout
- 4:10and stopped midway by his catcher, Ed Bailey.
- 4:13And they go over some last-minute signs.
- 4:15Whitey Ford continues to warm up to the left of home plate
- 4:19as we look out on the field.
- 4:21Ford continues to throw.
- 4:23Pierce will be warming up from the mound.
- 4:25Two left-handers.
- 4:26And this is the sixth game.
- 4:27Yankees leading the series, three to two.
- 4:29Could be all over if the Yankees win it.
- 4:31The Giants have to win the tie and force
- 4:34the all-important seventh game tomorrow.
- 4:36High sky, it's a beautiful sun shining.
- 4:39And George, you'd never believe it, after the rain we had here
- 4:42to get a day like today.
- 4:43But here it is.
- 4:44And two fine left-handers, Billy Pierce and Whitey Ford.
- 4:48It's a beautiful baseball afternoon, as you said.
- 4:51And now we're ready to go.
- 4:52Tony Kubeck will step in to lead off for the Yankees.
- 4:56He'll be followed by Bobby Richardson
- 4:58and Tommy Trash, the left-fielder.
- 5:01Whitey Ford against Billy Pierce here today,
- 5:03a couple of veteran left-handers in the sixth ball game.
- 5:07Pierce gets ready and here's the first pitch of the game.
- 5:10A high fly ball down the left-field line.
- 5:12It's curving foul, Pagone going over,
- 5:14but it's going to be out of play.
- 5:15This one back in the crowd.
- 5:19Kubeck has a 286 batting average.
- 5:21Tony's been to the plate 21 times.
- 5:23He has six hits.
- 5:24No home runs, no runs batted in.
- 5:27Left-hander against a left-hander.
- 5:30Jimmy Davenport, the third baseman,
- 5:32is right in on the edge of the infield grass.
- 5:35So Pater's in a couple of steps at first base.
- 5:40Giant's play Kubeck a little bit to left field.
- 5:43Keen over near the line.
- 5:45Billy Pierce looking in.
- 5:49Here's the pitch to Tony.
- 5:51Curve ball, it's inside.
- 5:53One ball, one strike.
- 6:01Tony Kubeck, the lead-off man for the Yankees,
- 6:03waiting on Pierce.
- 6:05Here's the 1-1 pitch.
- 6:06He swings and hits a bouncing ball slowly to second.
- 6:09Heal her hazard, here's the flip to first.
- 6:10He's out.
- 6:11Kubeck goes out, second to first.
- 6:15That's one away.
- 6:16And the batter will be the second baseman, Bobby Richardson.
- 6:21Bobby's a right-handed batter.
- 6:23He has a 190 batting average.
- 6:25Four hits and 21 trips in this series.
- 6:29A lot of people predicting a high-scoring ball game here today
- 6:33seems to be the trend after a lot of off days.
- 6:37Here's the pitch to Bobby.
- 6:38Ball, it's outside, a slow curve off the corner.
- 6:41One ball and a strike.
- 6:46Pierce into the wind-up.
- 6:48Here's the 1-1 in Opage.
- 6:49He swings and pops it up.
- 6:50It's going to be out of play.
- 6:51This one coming back into the crowd.
- 6:54One ball, one strike.
- 6:56Another capacity house here in Candlestick Park.
- 6:59Boy, tickets were just not available here in San Francisco.
- 7:02Everybody looking for tickets.
- 7:04You might have thought with a delay,
- 7:06there would be some tickets available.
- 7:08But no, sir, not in San Francisco.
- 7:11Here's the pitch.
- 7:12Bobby swings and hits a fly ball into shallow center field.
- 7:15Willie May is racing in.
- 7:16Pagan going out and Pagan makes the catch.
- 7:21George Pagan and Ernie Bowman, a utility infielder,
- 7:25collided in the workout at Modesto yesterday.
- 7:28And Pagan has a bit of a bad wrist.
- 7:30He couldn't follow through.
- 7:31And he's kind of limping as he comes back now
- 7:33and Ernie Bowman had a couple teeth loose in the collision.
- 7:37I notice he has a bandage on his left forearm.
- 7:41Down around the wrist.
- 7:44Tommy trashed the batter,
- 7:45switched batter batting right-handed against Pierce.
- 7:48Tommy has a 400 batting average.
- 7:50Takes a curve down low.
- 7:52One ball and no strikes.
- 7:54Tommy has eight hits and 20 trips to the plate.
- 7:58We're in the first inning in case you joined us late.
- 8:00Two outs with no one on.
- 8:04Pierce into the windup.
- 8:06Here's the one and no pitch.
- 8:07Strike, he got a fast ball over.
- 8:09One and one to Tresh.
- 8:13It was a dramatic three-run homer by Tresh
- 8:15in Yankee Stadium last Wednesday.
- 8:18I gave the Yankees the three to two edge in this series.
- 8:21Here's a curve outside.
- 8:23Ball two and strike one.
- 8:25So far Pierce's pattern has certainly changed
- 8:28and has thrown a lot of big wide-breaking curveballs
- 8:30contrary to what he has said all along
- 8:32and the way he pitched out here in his first game.
- 8:34Here's the two-one pitch.
- 8:35Down low he got the fast ball below the knees.
- 8:38He has not thrown many fast balls here today.
- 8:40In the first game he pitched against the Yankees,
- 8:42he threw a lot of fast balls.
- 8:44But Billy here in the first inning,
- 8:46as Joe Toge has been throwing a lot of big wide curves.
- 8:51It's a three-one count to Tommy Tresh.
- 8:54Pierce into the windup.
- 8:57Here's the pitch.
- 8:59Strike, he got the fast ball over.
- 9:01Three and two to Tommy.
- 9:04Mickey Mantle is waiting in the on-deck circle.
- 9:08Yankee's trying to get something going here in the first inning.
- 9:13A three-two pitch.
- 9:15He swings and hits a bouncing ball to deep short.
- 9:17For gone with a long throw he is out by a step in the first inning.
- 9:21Close play but he makes it.
- 9:23The right-to-hand scorer is no one left
- 9:25but the first time in the first inning,
- 9:27the Yankee's nothing with the Giants coming to bat.
- 9:32Well, no scorer is going to the bottom of the first inning.
- 9:35The Yankees going out in order.
- 9:37Cubak bounced the second Bobby Richardson pop to the shortstop
- 9:40and Tom Tresh grounded to the shortstop.
- 9:44For the Giants it will be Harvey Keen leading off.
- 9:47It will be followed by Chuck Hiller and then Philippe Alloux.
- 9:51Keen is looking for his first hit in the World Series.
- 9:54He's hit eight times.
- 9:56George in the background, I can hear the Giants fight song.
- 9:59It looks like all ball clubs are coming up with one.
- 10:01The Pittsburgh club with the Bucks going all the way
- 10:04and now the Giants have one by by birdie.
- 10:06I don't know, it's getting to me where you're going to need a music
- 10:09construction along with a hitting coach.
- 10:11There's the first pitch to Keen.
- 10:12He hits a ground ball.
- 10:13It's speared by a boy here.
- 10:15Here's the throw to first. He's out.
- 10:17Keen hit that one like a bullet.
- 10:19A low-liner that hit in front of Boyer to the left of him.
- 10:22Had a nice pickup, flipped it over to Bill Scowen in time to get his man.
- 10:26He's one away and the batter will be the second baseman, Chuck Hiller.
- 10:31He's got the left-handed batter with a 278 batting average.
- 10:36He has five hits in the series and 18 trips.
- 10:40One was a grand slam homer.
- 10:42Ford delivers a fastball outside.
- 10:45One ball to strikes.
- 10:48Left-hander against a left-hander here in the bottom of the first inning.
- 10:53Whitey gets ready.
- 10:55Here's the one in no pitch.
- 10:56Ground ball hit to the wide.
- 10:58A boy here. Keen back will have a long throw to first base.
- 11:00He is safe on a close play.
- 11:05Keen back went into the hole and got the ground ball.
- 11:08Made the quick throw to Scowen but not in time.
- 11:11It will be an infield single for Hiller.
- 11:14It's a runner at first base with one up and the batter will be Fully Pallou.
- 11:20Pallou's the right-handed batter.
- 11:22He has a 278 batting average.
- 11:24Five hits and 18 trips.
- 11:27Same as Chuck Hiller.
- 11:30Whitey checks his runner.
- 11:32Here's the pitch.
- 11:34Bowel ball.
- 11:35This one's coming back in the crowd.
- 11:37One strike to Pallou.
- 11:39A pretty good tip-off on the respect that the Giants have for Whitey Ford's control is that nobody is waiting for anything.
- 11:45Keen jumped on the first one.
- 11:47So did Hiller and now here's the Lowe's swinging at it.
- 11:51Pallou's standing in.
- 11:53A one strike.
- 11:57Whitey checks his runner.
- 11:59Here's the pitch.
- 12:01A swing and a miss.
- 12:02He got a low fastball by two strikes to Pallou.
- 12:06We're in the first inning in case you join us late. There's no score in the ballgame.
- 12:10The Giants have a runner at first base with one out.
- 12:13Chuck Hiller beating out an infield single to deep shot.
- 12:18Pallou is taking a little time.
- 12:20He lost his helmet as he swung and missed at the last bit.
- 12:23Puts it back on and gets in.
- 12:28The Yankees deep and around to the left for the big fella.
- 12:32Whitey gets set.
- 12:34Here's the pitch.
- 12:35A ground ball.
- 12:36The Boyer gets off his glove.
- 12:38Rolls over to Cuback.
- 12:39Everybody's going to be safe.
- 12:42A ground ball to the left of Boyer that skipped off his glove.
- 12:46Rolled over to the shortstop.
- 12:48Cuback too late to make a play at second.
- 12:50He'll be on error charged against Boyer.
- 12:55So the Giants are threatening here in the first inning.
- 12:57They have runners at first and second.
- 13:00One out and the batter is Willie Mays.
- 13:04Willie has a 2-38 batting average in his series.
- 13:09Five hits and 21 trips.
- 13:14Here's the first pitch.
- 13:15A ground ball hit to the shortstop.
- 13:17Might be a double play over to second.
- 13:19Back to first.
- 13:20They get the double play.
- 13:21Willie Mays hits into a fast double play.
- 13:24Short to second to first.
- 13:26No runs.
- 13:27One hit.
- 13:28One error.
- 13:29One man left.
- 13:30And the score at the end of one full inning of play.
- 13:32The Giants nothing in the Yankees nothing.
- 13:37Well Willie Mays ending a threat for the Giants here in the first inning
- 13:41as he slammed a hard ground ball straight to Cuback.
- 13:44George Mays as we've talked about during the series really hits Whitey Ford.
- 13:48In fact of the five hits that he has in his series four of them have come against Whitey
- 13:52but in the jam Ford was up to it and gotten to hit the breaking ball
- 13:55on a perfect room service ground ball
- 13:58where they could turn it over for the double play.
- 14:00And as you pointed out Joe with the rest of the batters Willie jumping on the first pitch
- 14:04the Giants coming right off of that bench swinging here in the first inning.
- 14:08There might be a reason for it.
- 14:10We'll wait and see.
- 14:11You know that Ford is not going to walk too many.
- 14:13They're going to have to go out and get him and Alvin Dockies turn on that green light
- 14:16I guess from the time they got up this morning.
- 14:18Well Mickey Mantle will lead off for the Yankees in the second inning.
- 14:22Here's Billy Pierce first pitch ball.
- 14:24He got the fast ball up high.
- 14:26One ball and no strikes.
- 14:28Mickey's batting average one eleven he has two hits and 18 trips in this series.
- 14:36Pierce into the wind up.
- 14:38Here's the one in O pitch strike.
- 14:40He got the fast ball over this one around the knees one in one to Mickey.
- 14:44You'll be followed by Roger Maris and then Elston Howard.
- 14:48No score in the second inning.
- 14:51The pitch to Mantle outside fastball just off the corner.
- 14:55Ball two in strike one.
- 14:58Pierce through a lot of curves in the first inning.
- 15:00He has thrown nothing but fastballs here to Mickey Mantle.
- 15:06Here's the two one pitch.
- 15:07He swings and hits a liner to center.
- 15:09May's going back back and he's there and makes the catch.
- 15:12In the center field.
- 15:13Mickey Mantle hit that one nearly 400 feet away into deep center.
- 15:18A lion drive.
- 15:19May's moving back to make the catch.
- 15:23George both that maze and Mantle have made some pretty good big leg outs.
- 15:26They've hit that ball hard in straight center field.
- 15:28May's hit a couple of Yankee Stadium and that ball at Mantle just hit was hit right on the nose
- 15:32but in the big part of the ballpark.
- 15:34Here's four tenons on a field a long ways from home play.
- 15:37Here's Roger Maris a left handed batter against Billy Pierce.
- 15:41A curve ball that's in there one strike.
- 15:44Billy coming in with a big roundhouse curve to Roger Maris.
- 15:48Roger's batting average posted at 188 he has three hits and 16 trips.
- 15:54Pierce gets ready.
- 15:56Here's the pitch.
- 15:57Another curve he hits it on the ground of the second baseman Hiller.
- 16:00He's thrown a first and plenty of time to get Maris.
- 16:03That's two down and the batter will be the catcher.
- 16:06Elston Howard.
- 16:12L is a right handed batter.
- 16:14He has three hits in the series and 14 trips or a 214 batting average.
- 16:22We're in the top of the second inning there's two outs with no one on there's no score in the ballgame.
- 16:28Pierce into the wind up the pitch to Howard strike he got a fast ball over.
- 16:35The Giants play Elston deep and around to the left.
- 16:39He has a lot of power in the right center field but he'll pull nearly everything.
- 16:45Here's the one strike pitch down low at the fast ball over with two low one ball one strike.
- 16:55Pierce against Whitey Ford here today in the sixth ballgame.
- 16:59The one one pitch outside just off the corner with a fast ball ball to in strike one.
- 17:08The sixth ballgame as everybody knows by now delayed three days because of rain Friday Saturday and Sunday trying to get it underway but
- 17:17we're ready to go here today on a beautiful baseball afternoon.
- 17:23Pierce gets ready.
- 17:25Here's the two one pitch.
- 17:26Elston pops it up on the infield so paid at first base is waiting on it makes the captain fair territory.
- 17:35No runs no hits no errors no one left and the score at the end of the first half of second inning.
- 17:40The Yankees nothing the Giants nothing.
- 17:48Orlando's the pay to be the lead off man for the Giants in the second inning.
- 17:53He'll be followed by Jim Davenport and then Ed Bailey.
- 17:56It's a scoreless ballgame as we go into the bottom of the second.
- 18:00So pay does a big right hander he's looking for his first hit in the series for delivers a fastball he swings and misses one strike.
- 18:13Orlando has been to the plate twelve times.
- 18:18Here's the one strike pitch slow curve hit on the ground to the shot stop it bounces in the left field.
- 18:25The big turn but he's got to hold on at first place a low liner that Quebec was all set to feel it took a band hop and bounce high over his head in the left field and so pay to get his first world series hit.
- 18:41The Giants with the runner at first place and no one out the batter will be Jim Davenport.
- 18:48Jimmy's a right handed batter he has a one thirty three batting average board delivers a curve down low.
- 18:54One ball or no strike.
- 18:57Davenport has been to the plate fifteen official times with two hits.
- 19:03A runner at first base with no one out here in the second inning.
- 19:07Board delivers outside a fastball off the corner ball to an O strike.
- 19:17Quebec was all set to feel the ground ball off the bat of the plate on the first half and it skipped high into the air he had no chance to feel it.
- 19:26Here's a quick throw to first base.
- 19:28Orlando back in town.
- 19:32Jimmy Davenport choking the bat waiting on Whitey Ford.
- 19:36Here's the two and O pitch outside.
- 19:40Three and out at Davenport.
- 19:43Jimmy's out of the box right now checking with Whitey Lachman at third base.
- 19:49More than likely the take sign will be on for this three and O pitch but we'll have to wait and see.
- 19:55Whitey gets set.
- 19:56Here's the pitch.
- 19:58Striked he got the fastball right down the middle.
- 20:01Davenport was taking all the way.
- 20:04It's a ball three and a strike one count.
- 20:11Sopeta appears to be confused at first base George.
- 20:15Here's the pitch.
- 20:17Striked he threw the curve ball on the three one pitch.
- 20:22Sopeta at first base was checking with the first base coach Larry Jansen on a three one and he's talking to him now as he just didn't get the sign from Lachman on the three one.
- 20:31A lot of time dark likes to run him.
- 20:33Ford gets set.
- 20:34Here's a three two pitch a ground ball that is fouled on the third base line.
- 20:38Lachman knocks it down.
- 20:40Sopeta was on his way on the three two pitch.
- 20:43It's a simple thing as far as the sign is concerned to get it from your third base coach.
- 20:47If you're not sure many times the first base coach will simply give you a wink which means go ahead and right now Sopeta is checking with Jansen.
- 20:54He wants to make sure he was running on the last pitch.
- 20:56You can see a key situation is already arisen where it could be a strikeout and throw him out.
- 21:01Whitey gets set again.
- 21:03The pitch to Davenport.
- 21:04A high pop fly.
- 21:05This may be out of play.
- 21:07Aaron is chasing it over near the seats. He can't get it.
- 21:10He's been back in the crowd.
- 21:13Still three and two to Davenport.
- 21:15Sopeta once again moving on the pitch.
- 21:17Jimmy has good bat control.
- 21:19Gets a piece of the ball.
- 21:20He doesn't strike out much.
- 21:21So Al Dark playing a little hit and run baseball here on the three two pitch.
- 21:26Of course that Whitey Ford moved George.
- 21:28It's not too much of a lead as far as Sopeta is concerned because Whitey has a real good move the first base and Orlando has to make sure he's coming towards the plate before he breaks.
- 21:36So he's not getting a very good jump at all.
- 21:38They could still make the double play on a hard hit ground ball.
- 21:42Ford ready again.
- 21:43Here's the pitch.
- 21:44Here's a liner down the left field line.
- 21:46It is a foul ball into the giant bullpen.
- 21:50Davenport lined the ball hard down the left field line.
- 21:53It curves into the bullpen.
- 22:01Still three and two to Davenport as he's making Whitey Ford pitch here in the second inning.
- 22:05There's no score in the ballgame.
- 22:07The Giants have a runner at first base with no one out.
- 22:15Whitey taking a little time rubbing up a new baseball right now.
- 22:18Texas sign.
- 22:20Here's the pitch.
- 22:21A swing and a miss.
- 22:22Now the second Sopeta is going back to first.
- 22:25He's safe at first base.
- 22:26It worked as the pay his advantage not to have a good jump because he was only about a step and a half off first base.
- 22:33And when he saw Davenport miss Howard of course couldn't take any chances.
- 22:37He threw the second base and Orlando only being about four steps.
- 22:40First base got back easily.
- 22:42Whitey defeated himself as you say Joe by holding him so close that Sopeta seeing he had no chance when Davenport swung and missed.
- 22:50Race back to first.
- 22:51Now Howard of course could not take a chance.
- 22:53He didn't know what he was going down or going to stop and he fired the second to hit him off.
- 22:57Here's Ed Bailey the catcher.
- 22:59He had a left handed batter.
- 23:02The pitch is in there a curve ball.
- 23:04One strike to Bailey.
- 23:06Ed's been to the plate nine times.
- 23:08He has one hit.
- 23:09111 batting average.
- 23:16Whitey forward looking in.
- 23:18Checked his runner at first base.
- 23:20Here's the pitch.
- 23:21A swing and a miss.
- 23:22Another curve ball.
- 23:23Strike two to Bailey.
- 23:27Orlando Sopeta opened the sending with a bad hop single to left and Davenport then struck out.
- 23:32With a two strike count on Bailey and Scarring has dropped behind the runner because Bailey a big pull hitter.
- 23:38They don't want to give him that big gap although Richardson is really protecting that hole but Scarring has dropped back with a two strike count on Bailey.
- 23:45Board gets set again.
- 23:46Here's the pitch.
- 23:47A curve outside.
- 23:48He tried to get Bailey to swing at a bad pitch.
- 23:51A curve breaking down and away.
- 23:53One ball two strikes.
- 23:56A scoreless ball game.
- 23:58We're in the bottom of the second inning.
- 24:00Giants have two hits.
- 24:02The Yankees have none.
- 24:07Board taking a little time as he looks in.
- 24:13Checked his runner at first.
- 24:14Here's the pitch.
- 24:15A ground ball foul down the first baseline.
- 24:18Still one ball.
- 24:19Two strikes to Ed Bailey.
- 24:20Jose Pagan the shortstop.
- 24:22Waiting in the on-deck circle.
- 24:25A Yankees deep and pulled around to the right for the pull hitting Ed Bailey.
- 24:37Tom Howard was listed as the catcher a couple of days ago but Dark said he wanted to go with Bailey because he had caught Pierce more this season than anybody else.
- 24:46Here's the one two pitch.
- 24:48Fastball it's high and inside.
- 24:50I believe in the count at two and two.
- 24:53A lot of advantages to that.
- 24:56Dark really believes in it.
- 24:57Sanford and Haller are the perfect battery on this ball because Haller always is catching Sanford.
- 25:04Here's Bailey and Pierce.
- 25:06Whitey Ford ready again.
- 25:08There goes the runner a swing and a miss.
- 25:10Here's the throw to second base.
- 25:11He is out.
- 25:12It's a double play.
- 25:13Bailey struck out and Sepreta is thrown out.
- 25:16Howard to the shortstop.
- 25:18No runs on one hit.
- 25:19There were no errors.
- 25:20No one left and the score at the end of two.
- 25:22A giant's nothing.
- 25:23The Yankees nothing.
- 25:25You know talking about giving signs at first base.
- 25:28There are many ways.
- 25:29One of them as I said was to wink another way and of course a lot of things can backfire on you.
- 25:34Another way is to use the last name of the ball player.
- 25:36We had a kid over Pittsburgh.
- 25:38We used the last name for the sake of simplification.
- 25:41Use the name Jones.
- 25:42Whenever he heard his last name he was to take off.
- 25:44Got on first and the coach says come on Jones be ready which of course was assigned.
- 25:48The kid called time walked over to the coach and said oh come on.
- 25:51We've been together all year.
- 25:52You know me well enough to call me by my first name.
- 25:55There's Bill Scowron to lead off for the Yankees.
- 25:57He takes the fastball outside.
- 25:59One ball and no strikes.
- 26:01Bill's a right handed batter with a 273 batting average in this series.
- 26:05He's had three hits and 11 trips.
- 26:09The moose right down on the end of the bat waiting on Billy Pierce.
- 26:13Billy taking a little time right now.
- 26:15Takes his cap off.
- 26:16Mops his brow.
- 26:19Boy it's beautiful weather.
- 26:21You're in San Francisco this afternoon.
- 26:23Not a cloud in the sky.
- 26:25The pitch scouring hits a ground at a third it is foul just outside the line.
- 26:30Davenport racing across the line lets it roll into the giant bullpen.
- 26:34George I don't know if it's just me but I never saw so much tape in the World Series there.
- 26:38You watch that man when scouring get ready look like a mummy act and Howard and for gone.
- 26:43Everybody all taped up for this series.
- 26:45Here's the one one pitch foul ball scouring.
- 26:48Check to swing the ball hit his bat and comes back.
- 26:51I tell you if they delayed this game about three more days you might have to tape me up.
- 26:55I'm going to jump out that window.
- 27:01Those four walls were getting a little confining.
- 27:04Here's the pitch to scouring.
- 27:05He swings and hits a drive into deep center maze going back back.
- 27:08He's deep near the fence.
- 27:10He's got it right against the fence.

- 27:58There's the catcher Ed Bailey coming back behind the plate he has the room on it makes the catch.
- 28:03Plate is for your out to the catcher.
- 28:07That's two down and the batter will be the pitcher Whitey Ford.

- 28:19There's Whitey coming on a left handed batter.
- 28:26Davenport moving in close to third base.

- 28:43One ball one strike to Ford.
- 28:47Giants threatened in the first inning they had two on with one out but failed to score.
- 28:52Strike two he caught the outside corner with this one.
- 28:55One ball and two strikes.
- 28:57Billy Pierce is throwing much harder now than he did in the first couple of innings.
- 29:03Here's the pitch.
- 29:05Three call.
- 29:07He gets the fast ball over and Ford is called out on strikes.
- 29:10No hits no errors no one left and the score at the end of the first half of the third inning.
- 29:14The Giants nothing in the Yankees nothing.

- 29:30Fagan a right handed batter.
- 29:32Into the plate 14 times he has seven hits for a 500 batting average.
- 29:38Here's the first pitch strike he caught the inside corner with a curve.
- 29:44Boyer is in close at third base.
- 29:46This fellow likes to bun.
- 29:47He's a fast base runner.
- 29:50All the infield in a step or so.
- 29:54Whitey into the wind up.
- 29:55Here's the pitch inside he broke the curve in tight.

- 30:46A ground ball at third.
- 30:47Boyer has it.
- 30:48Here's the throat of first base.
- 30:49He's out.
- 30:50Good play by Boyer who went to his right.
- 30:52Made a backhand pick up.
- 30:56So Fagan is out five to three.
- 30:58If you're keeping score in the batter will be Billy Pierce.
- 31:03Here's Billy coming on.
- 31:04Nice round of applause.
- 31:07This fella has never lost a ball game in Candlestick Park.
- 31:10He had a record this year of 12 wins and no defeats.
- 31:14Dark answer to one of the questions was a good one.
- 31:16He used exactly what you just said.
- 31:18George asked him about making the change.
- 31:20He said I got to see Billy Pierce lose before I make a change.
- 31:23Here's the first pitch.
- 31:24He swings and bounces it foul down the first baseline.
- 31:27Larry Chanson picks it up.
- 31:30A one strike count.
- 31:32Pierce hits pretty much like Ford.
- 31:34They're both pretty good hitters.
- 31:35They slap the ball around a lot up the middle and into left field.
- 31:42Billy batting with one out and no one on in the third inning.
- 31:45Here's the one strike pitch.
- 31:46A ground ball hits slowly to the second baseman.
- 31:49Richardson has it.
- 31:50The throat of first he's out.
- 31:51Billy Pierce goes out second to first.
- 31:55Well it's two down and the batter will be Harvey Keane.
- 32:00Harvey's looking for his first world series hit.
- 32:03He almost got it leading off in the first inning for the Giants
- 32:06as he slammed one to the left of Boyer who made a good play on him.
- 32:11Harvey's a right handed batter.
- 32:16Practically no win at all here today.
- 32:19The pitch to Keane.
- 32:21Strike.
- 32:22He got a fastball in around the letters.
- 32:24One strike to Harvey.
- 32:28Yankees play him straight away not too deep.
- 32:33Ford ready.
- 32:35The pitch.
- 32:36Her ball.
- 32:37It's too low.
- 32:38Why'd he pull the string on that when he got Keane out in front
- 32:41but Harvey held up.
- 32:43One ball, one strike.
- 32:45Two outs with no one on and the bottom of the third.
- 32:48There's no score in the ballgame.

- 33:01before he throws it back to Whitey.
- 33:06No runs on two hits.
- 33:08While the Giants no runs, no hits for the Yankees.
- 33:11Yankees have one error in the game.
- 33:14Here's the two one pitch.
- 33:15Down low at the fastball low and in.
- 33:19Three and one to Keane.
- 33:21Right now he's checking with Whitey Lockman at third base.
- 33:30Whitey Ford looking in.
- 33:33Goes into the wind up.
- 33:35Here's the pitch.
- 33:36Strike two.
- 33:37He cut the inside corner with a fastball.
- 33:39Keane had started the first base.
- 33:41Charlie Berry went up with the right hand.
- 33:45So it's a full counter-harve.
- 33:47Three two with two outs.
- 33:50Ford ready.
- 33:51Here's the pitch.
- 33:53A ground foul.
- 33:54This one rolling over to the Yankee dugout.
- 33:56Still three and two.
- 34:00Another capacity house here in Candlestick Park.
- 34:04A lot of standees beyond the fence and right field.
- 34:11Ford with a new baseball taking a little time as he rubs it up.
- 34:15Checks his sign with Elston Howard.
- 34:21Here's the three two pitch.
- 34:22Keane hits a high fly ball behind short.
- 34:25Cubak is drifting back waiting on it.

- 34:30Cubak was having a little trouble with the sun for a moment.
- 34:33Now runs no hits no errors no unlapsed.
- 34:35And the score at the end of three.
- 34:36A Giants nothing the Yankees nothing.
- 34:38Aim six of the World Series of 1962.
- 34:42At the end of three on the scoreboard no runs no hits one error.
- 34:46Or the Yankees no runs two hits and no errors for the Giants.
- 34:51George Kell and Joe Gargiola back at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
- 34:56The sixth game of the 1962 World Series.
- 35:00Here's Tony Cubak to lead off.
- 35:02He'll be followed by Bobby Richardson then Tommy Trash.
- 35:06Billy Pierce gets ready and here's the first pitch.
- 35:08Fastball he bounces it foul behind the plate.
- 35:11One strike.
- 35:13Tony's 0 for a 1 he bounced to the shortstop back in the first inning.
- 35:21Tony right down on the end of the bat waiting.
- 35:24Here's the pitch outside.
- 35:27This pitch low and away one ball one strike.
- 35:33Giants still shading Cubak a little bit to left field.
- 35:37Here's the 1-1 pitch.
- 35:39He swings and fouls it back.
- 35:41It's going to be in the crowd.
- 35:43One ball two strikes.
- 35:48Billy Pierce and Whitey Ford were announced as the starting pitchers in game number six last Friday.
- 35:54The reins moved in and they are still the pitchers here today.
- 35:59No change at all.
- 36:01There had been a lot of speculation there might be but no change by the two managers.
- 36:08Pierce gets ready.
- 36:10Here's the 1-2 pitch.
- 36:11Curve it's inside this one pushed him back.

- 36:22Pierce into the wind up the pitch outside a curve breaking down and away.
- 36:273 and 2 to Cubak.
- 36:33A scoreless ball game we're in the top of the fourth inning.

- 36:39Here's the 3-2 pitch.
- 36:41He swings and bounces it foul.
- 36:43This one off to the right.
- 36:44Still 3 and 2 to Tony.
- 36:47Both teams left this area yesterday.
- 36:50Travels some 90 miles away.
- 36:52Took infield practice batting practice.
- 36:54Each team working out about an hour.
- 36:59Cubak waiting.
- 37:01Here's the 3-2 pitch.

- 37:09Good play by Jimmy Davenport.
- 37:11Who went wide a third base.
- 37:13Came up with a ground ball.
- 37:15Had to throw off balance to Sepeta.
- 37:17And he got his man by a step.
- 37:19George I think the accuracy of the throws by the infielders has really been amazing because that infield although it's pretty dry is not completely dry.
- 37:26You can bet that there is a wet spot or two on a baseball when they pick it up after the ground ball.
- 37:30Bobby Joe after it leaves that wet grass on the infield but we've had some great throws today.
- 37:35Bobby Richardson the batter takes a fastball down low.
- 37:38One ball and a strike.
- 37:40The Yankees are looking for their first base runner against Billy Pierce.
- 37:45Veteran left hander gets ready.

- 37:52One ball one strike.
- 37:54Bobby popped the shortstop his first time.
- 37:57In case you're wondering the background here at Candlestick is real good.
- 38:01Yankees and some of the Giants complained about the background in Yankee stadium because it were people in center field but here there's a big high green wall or background.
- 38:09Real good.
- 38:10Here's the one one pitch.
- 38:11A ground ball to third.
- 38:13Davenport has it on the big hop.
- 38:15The throw to first.
- 38:17Bobby Richardson goes out.
- 38:19Third to first.
- 38:21Two down and the batter will be Tommy Trash.
- 38:26Tommy's over one.
- 38:28He bounced up a gun his first time.
- 38:33Tommy's a switch hitter.
- 38:35He's batting right handed against Billy Pierce.
- 38:39Billy into the windup.
- 38:41The first pitch.
- 38:42Strike he got a fastball over.
- 38:44A one strike count.
- 38:46We're in the top of the fourth inning.

- 38:54Here's the pitch to Trash.
- 38:55He swings and hits a fly ball into shallow center.
- 38:58Heller going out calling part.
- 39:00He's got it.

- 39:15We move along into the bottom of the fourth inning.
- 39:17There's no score in the ballgame.
- 39:19No runs on two hits for the Giants.
- 39:21No runs on no hits for the Yankees.
- 39:24There's no score in the ballgame.
- 39:25That was made by a boy at third base.
- 39:29Chuck Heller the second baseman will lead off to the Giants.
- 39:32He'll be followed by Philippe Alou and then Willie Mays.
- 39:36Chuck had an infield single his first time at bat.
- 39:40Left handed batter facing Whitey Ford.
- 39:43Here's the pitch.
- 39:45Curve ball.
- 39:46It's two half.
- 39:47One ball and a strike.
- 39:53He's getting in to get the sign.
- 39:56Here's the one at O-pitch.
- 39:57There's a drive in the left field.
- 39:59Trash coming in.
- 40:00He's there.
- 40:01Makes the catch.
- 40:02Heller sliced one down the left field line.
- 40:04Tom was playing over that way.
- 40:06Moved in quickly and near the line to make the catch.
- 40:09That's one up and the batter will be Philippe Alou.
- 40:14Alou was safe on an area his first time.
- 40:17He slammed the ground ball to the left of Boyer
- 40:19and he got away from him.
- 40:20He's standing.
- 40:24Philippe right down on the end of the bat.
- 40:26Ford delivers.
- 40:27Here's a fly ball foul down the left field line.
- 40:30This one's going back in the crowd.
- 40:32One strike to Alou.
- 40:35And a letter from a fan wanting to know the relation of Philippe
- 40:38and Maddie Alou with their brothers.
- 40:42Two mighty fine ball players playing on the same ball club.
- 40:48One strike count to Philippe.
- 40:51He's batting with one out and no one on here in the fourth inning.
- 40:54There's another one too, George,
- 40:55if these giants are counting on very heavily.
- 40:57Quite possible there'll be three Alou brothers
- 40:59in the major leagues next year.
- 41:01Here's the one strike, bitch.
- 41:03Fastball is down low.
- 41:05One ball, one strike.
- 41:06Is he an outfielder too?
- 41:08His name is Hazoo.
- 41:10How about that for an outfiel?
- 41:12Alou, Alou and Alou.
- 41:15Sound like three lawyers just went broke.
- 41:18Here's the one, one, bitch.
- 41:19A ground ball hit wide.
- 41:20A third boy again, get it.
- 41:22Alou hit one to the left of Boyer who died for the ball.
- 41:28He got his glove on it and couldn't hold it.
- 41:30It'll be an infield single for Philippe Alou.
- 41:34So the giants pick up their third hit.
- 41:37They have a runner in first place with one out.
- 41:40And the batter will be Willie Mays.
- 41:45Willie's 0-for-1.
- 41:46He slammed into a double play his first time at bat.
- 41:55This crowd coming alive as Mays moves into the batter's box.
- 41:58Here's the pitch.
- 41:59A ground ball that's fouled on the third baseline.
- 42:02One strike to Willie.
- 42:08All three giant hits have been of the scratch variety.
- 42:12Heller beat out an infield single, a deep shot.
- 42:14Sepeta's single took a bad hop over the head of Quebec.
- 42:18And this ground ball, skipping off the glove of Boyer at third base.
- 42:24Willie Mays the batter.
- 42:26Ford delivers.
- 42:28Ball, it's down low.
- 42:30Her breaking down an in.
- 42:32One ball, one strike.
- 42:36Alou at first base with one out.
- 42:38We're in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- 42:40There's no score.
- 42:44Boyer Mays right down on the end of the bat, waiting on Whitey Ford.
- 42:48He has a phenomenal record hitting against Ford.
- 42:53Here's the 1-1 pitch.
- 42:55Ball, he checked his swing on a low curve.
- 42:57Ball two and strike one.
- 43:01Whitey trying to get Willie to go for the low inside curve ball and beat it into the dirt as he did in the first inning.
- 43:08And he got him to bounce into a double play with two on and one out.
- 43:11Willie checking his swing this time.
- 43:14He's waiting for that good pitch.
- 43:16Whitey checks his runner.
- 43:18Here it is.
- 43:19Down low, another curve, breaking down an in.
- 43:22Three and one to Mays.
- 43:25Trying to hit him right on the fifth, but Willie won't go for it all. Breaking balls down an in.
- 43:32Willie's been laying off.
- 43:34Whitey taking a little time right now, rubbing up the baseball.
- 43:39He'll check his runner very closely at first base to see if Alou is moving on this 3-1 pitch.
- 43:45A leap taking a lead.
- 43:47Here's the pitch.
- 43:48Outside, he walked in.
- 43:50Willie Mays, how's the walk?
- 43:53So the Giants are threatening here in the fourth inning.
- 43:56They have runners at first and second with one out and the batter will be Orlando Sabrera.
- 44:04Orlando had a single his first time at bat.
- 44:07He slammed a hard grounder straight at Quebec.
- 44:11The curve breaking in.
- 44:13One ball and a strike.
- 44:20Ford got the first batter here in the fourth inning.
- 44:23Hiller on a flat left gave up a single to Alou on a walk to Willie Mays.
- 44:29The pitch to Sabrera.
- 44:31He swings and hits a foul down the third baseline.
- 44:34One ball, one strike.
- 44:37Whitey is throwing a lot of curves here today, especially with men on bases.
- 44:41He's trying to get the Giants to beat it into the dirt.
- 44:47Sabrera a big strong right-handed batter.
- 44:53Whitey Ford checks his runners.
- 44:55Thanks a quick throw, it's in the center field.
- 44:58It'll be a wild throw, he's going to get a run in.
- 45:01Alou is coming in the score.
- 45:03Willie Mays goes to third base.
- 45:18Well, the Yankees' favorite pick-off play is just backfired as Ford whirled at Prada's second.
- 45:23He evidently did not pick up Robbie Richardson.
- 45:26He tried to stop his throw, it slipped out of his hand and went in the right center field.
- 45:30Alou scored all the way from second and Willie Mays moved to third base.
- 45:35So the Giants are out in front, one to nothing.
- 45:37They have a runner at third base, one out.
- 45:41The infield moving in close now for a play at the plate.
- 45:44Here's the pitch to Sabrera.
- 45:46Wall, it's in tight.
- 45:48Wall two and strike one.
- 45:55Whitey Ford is that great success throughout his career with the pick-off plays with this one backfired.
- 46:02He's checking the runner at third base.
- 46:04Here's the pitch.
- 46:05A swing in a miss.
- 46:06The low curve ball, a quick throw down to third by Elston Howard.
- 46:10He missed his target by a good 20 feet and it's kind of surprising George that he tried with less than two outs
- 46:15because what just happened, Willie picking up the big base to fly a ball will pick up another run.
- 46:20With two outs it will still take a base hit, but less than two outs to fly a ball, a big play for these Giants if they can get it.
- 46:28Whitey gets ready.
- 46:30Here's the two-two pitch.
- 46:31There's a drive in the deep right center field, a miss going way back in.
- 46:35He can't get it.
- 46:36All the way to the fifth.
- 46:38The plate on him will go in the second with a double.
- 46:40We'll get another run in.
- 46:42The ball goes in the second.
- 46:51Orlando Sopeta getting his second hit, a drive up the middle in the right center between Merris and Mantle all the way to the fence.
- 46:59Willie May is coming in to score and the Giants lead it by a score of two to nothing.
- 47:05He'll have a runner in second base with one out and the batter will be Jim Davenport.
- 47:12Jim was a strikeout pick from his first time at that.
- 47:16Here's the pitch.
- 47:18A drive through the middle in the center field and he'll run in.
- 47:21Here's Sopeta around third coming in to score and Davenport has real one through the middle of center field.
- 47:33The Giants now lead it by a score of three to nothing.
- 47:41Starting some action in the bullpen for the Yankees, Jim coats the right-hander, but daily a left-hander throw.
- 47:50Davenport picking up his first run battered into the series.
- 47:53The Giants leading three to nothing.
- 47:55A runner at first base, still one out and the batter is Ed Bailey.
- 48:02Whitey ready. Here's the pitch.
- 48:04A swing and a miss on a slow curve ball. One strike to Bailey.
- 48:17Whitey forward looking in.
- 48:24Here's the pitch.
- 48:26A high fly ball down the third base line.
- 48:28I believe it's going to be out of play back in the crowd.
- 48:31Boy, you're chasing it. There's no chance to get it.
- 48:44Now the Giants have picked up three runs here in the bottom of the fourth to take a three to nothing lead over the Yankees.
- 48:52Three hits a walk in an error.
- 48:54Getting the runs in.
- 48:55The pitch to Bailey.
- 48:56Did he know that Jolly Berry checked it and gone. A curve ball breaking down and away.
- 49:02Bailey checked this swing just in time.
- 49:05One ball, two strikes.
- 49:13Whitey looking in to get the sign.
- 49:18Here's the one two pitch.
- 49:19Strike three called.
- 49:20He got the slider over the outside corner and Bailey is called out on strikes.
- 49:25Two down and the batter will be Jose Pagan.
- 49:31This crowd has really come alive here at Candlestick Park.
- 49:35The Giants have broken this scoreless deadlock, picking up three big runs here in the fourth inning.
- 49:41They still have a runner at first base with two outs.
- 49:48Pagan bounced the third base his first time.
- 49:51That's one hard to the shortstop. Fillback up with it. Throws the second he's out.
- 49:58The Giants pick up three runs in the inning. Three runs on three hits. One error. One man left.
- 50:03And the score at the end of four full innings of play. The Giants three in the Yankees nothing.
- 50:10At the end of four, the Giants have three runs on five hits and no errors.
- 50:15The Yankees have no runs, no hits and they've committed two big errors.
- 50:24Mickey Mantle will be the leadoff man.
- 50:27In case you're wondering whether Billy Pierce knows he's got a no hitter going,
- 50:30I'm sure that somebody on that Yankee bench is provided evidence service
- 50:33because they don't let those things get by. Anything to rattle them.
- 50:38Mickey fly deep to center field his first time.
- 50:41Mickey fly ball into center field. May is moving back a few steps now he's coming in.
- 50:46He's got it this one away. That one was hit a mile high in the straightaway center field.
- 50:54One down and the batter will be Roger Maris.
- 50:59Roger bounced to the second base in his first time.
- 51:07In the fifth inning there's one out with no one on the Giants lead three to nothing.
- 51:13All the scoring coming in the fourth inning. A pitch to Maris. Curve ball it's in there.
- 51:18Once again the Giants have gone into the shift. They have three infielders on the right side.
- 51:27Here's the pitch. Ball in tight. One and one to Roger.
- 51:35Maris out of the box for just a moment.
- 51:39Billy Pierce quickly gets ready. Here's the pitch. Strike two he blazes the fast ball over.
- 51:45One ball and two strikes.
- 51:49Roger might have been looking for the curve as Billy slipped the fast one right down the middle.
- 51:53Here's the pitch. A curve ball he fouls it back in the crowd. One ball two strikes.
- 52:06Billy with a new baseball getting ready. The one two pitch. A curve it's hit deep in the right field.
- 52:12This ball is well hit. It is going. Going. It is gone. A home run for Roger Maris.
- 52:18A towering fly ball in the deep right field. A low took one look at it.
- 52:24And turned back to the infield. The first home run in this series for Roger Maris.
- 52:31It is his fifth run battered in.
- 52:37Now a three to one ball game. The Giants leading. And the batter will be Elston Howard.
- 52:43Ellie popped to the first baseman his first time.
- 52:50Big right handed batter. Now Pierce wants to start all over again with the signs.
- 52:56Just ready. Here's the pitch. A swing and a miss. He got the fast ball by him.
- 53:01One strike to Howard.
- 53:06The Giants picked up three in the fourth inning. The Yankees have picked up one here in the top of the fifth.
- 53:11The pitch to Howard is inside. One ball and strike.
- 53:18One out with no one on in the fifth inning.
- 53:23This is the one one pitch down low. Ball two and strike one.
- 53:28One of the problems that a catcher has with Billy Pierce is to slow him down.
- 53:32He has a tendency to really work fast and you can see Bailey trying to slow him down a bit.
- 53:36Although Billy is intent on getting that ball and firing.
- 53:40He might be giving the slow signs Joe and we're going to get some action.
- 53:44It looks like in the giant bullpen right now Billy O'Dell for one getting up and I believe Don Larson is the other one.
- 53:49Now Don getting up.
- 53:52Pierce gets ready. Here's the two one pitch. A ground ball hit the third Davenport.
- 53:57Back of the bag with a long throw to first. It's a wild throw.
- 54:01This pass to Betta and Howard will go all the way down to second.
- 54:05Davenport had a long throw to make. He was back of the bag near the line at third base.
- 54:11Made a wild throw to first. It got past the pay to win all the way to the stands and Elston Howard moves down to second base.
- 54:18It'll be an error charged against Jimmy Davenport.
- 54:21It's a runner at third at second base with one out and the batter will be Bill Scarran.
- 54:27Bill's all for one. He played the center field his first time in bat.
- 54:37Action in the giant bullpen. A left-hander Billy O'Dell and a right-hander Don Larson throwing.
- 54:49Billy Pierce looking in. Chucks his sign with Bailey. A pitch to Scarran. Here's a pop fly in the shallow left center.
- 54:57Mays racing in fast. Keen coming in and Mays makes the catch.
- 55:01Scarran hit that one down on the handle of the bat.
- 55:04Wild wall in the shallow left center. Willie Mays racing in to take care of it.
- 55:09That's two down and the batter will be Cleep Boyer.
- 55:14Billy going out to talk to Pierce. He was looking over towards his bench to see just exactly how they want to play.
- 55:19The giants are leading by two. This is the time when they wanted to play it for Boyer but first base is open.
- 55:24And it'll be one of those cases of making him hit your ball. You're not going to put him on but you're not going to give him a real good ball hit either with the pitcher coming up next.
- 55:33And with the pitcher coming up next Joe we're getting some action in the bullpen for the Yankees so it could be if Boyer gets on we'll have a bench batter for Whitey Ford.
- 55:41Jim Coates beginning to throw. Pierce gets set. Here's the pitch to Boyer.
- 55:48He swings and hits a bouncer foul on the third baseline. One strike.
- 55:52If nothing else Coates getting up that bullpen is a quick counter move by Hal because it'll force the Giants to pitch to Boyer whereas with nobody up there more lines kind of pitch around him.
- 56:04Pierce ready again.
- 56:06One strike pitch outside. Fastball down and away. One ball one strike. The Giants are leading three to one. We're in the top of the fifth inning.
- 56:14Elston Howard is down his second base with two outs.
- 56:21Now Pierce steps off just as he was ready to go. Looking back at second base he doesn't want Howard to get that big lead on him.
- 56:33Billy gets back on the rubber. Here's the one one pitch. Curve ball it's outside. 12-2 and strike one.
- 56:45The man will open the inning with a fly ball to center field. Roger Marist then hit a home run over the right field fence. Howard was safe on an air by Davenport.
- 56:53Scour and fly to center. Here's the pitch to Boyer. Down low. Three and one to Clee.
- 57:02Billy Pierce being mighty careful. Looks like they're going to put him on George Bailey is putting out four fingers in the first base so Alvin Dark is not going to let him hit a cripple three one.
- 57:13He's going to put him on. It'll force the move by Al. Here's the pitch. It's outside and Boyer goes to first base and that means that Whitey Ford will be the batter.
- 57:24And he's coming out of the dugout. He tried to force the move by Coates. We mentioned it when Coates got up there that they would let Boyer hit. Dark didn't go for it and Alke stayed with his starting pitcher Whitey Ford.
- 57:38As you said Joe he was trying to bluff Dark into pitching to Boyer hoping he'd think he was coming out for a pinch batter but Dark didn't go for it.
- 57:46Looks like holding a pair of deuces in a poker game George. Here's the pitch to Whitey. Ball it's down low. One ball and no strikes.
- 57:58Two on with two outs here in the fifth inning. The Giants lead three to one. Whitey Ford the batter chokes the bat.
- 58:07Here's the one and no pitch. He swings and bounces it foul over to the Giants dugout. One ball one strike.
- 58:16I doubt if Howard will be able to score on the base hit the left or left center because Keen, Leedy, Gardner, Lyons, Shallow and Willie Mays looks like an extra infielder out there.
- 58:25Very Shallow and center field. Here's the one one pitch. A high pop fly on the infiel. Hiller at second base is calling for it.
- 58:33He's got it to side return. Whitey Ford pops to the second baseman. The Yankees pick up one run on one hit. One air on the inning. Two men left and the score at the end of the first half of the fifth inning.
- 58:43The Giants three and the Yankees one. Kelly Pierce will lead off for the Giants in the bottom of the fifth followed by Harvey Keen and then Chuck Heller.
- 58:55A three to one ball game. The Giants in front. Here's the pitch. A crown ball hits slowly to the shark stop. You'll have to hurry to throw the first ease out on a close play.
- 59:05Kelly Pierce goes out. Shark to first. One away and the batter will be Harvey Keen. Harvey has bounced the third and popped to the shark stop in two trips.
- 59:22The serve still looking for his first hit in this World Series.
- 59:31Ford into the wind up. Here's the pitch. Strike. He got a fastball over. Harvey bluffed a bunch towards third. He's trying to get Boyer in closer.
- 59:40The plate is in a step or two from his normal position. Here's the one strike pitch. Change of pace. It's outside. One ball, one strike.
- 59:53The Giants have out-hipped the Yankees five to one. They've outscored them three to one.
- 1:00:02Here's the one one pitch. Inside a fastball that pushed him back. Ball two and strike one.
- 1:00:11The sixth game of the 1962 World Series. A must ball game for the Giants. Here's the two one pitch.
- 1:00:19The line and a left. Harvey Keen gets his first hit. And he slammed a low liner between third and short in the left field.
- 1:00:27Number six off Whitey Ford. The Giants with a runner in first base. One up and the batter will be Chuck Hiller.
- 1:00:39Chuck got an infield single in the first inning. In the fourth inning he applied to left field.
- 1:00:49Ford gets ready. The pitch. Ball is down low. Hops out of the mid of Howard. No chance for Keen to move up. One ball and no strikes.
- 1:01:00The Giants lead by two. We're in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:01:08Ford checks his runner. Here's the one and no pitch. There's a liner in the shallow center field. It starts off in. Harvey Keen around second.
- 1:01:17He'll go in standing up. Chuck Hiller. Drops a soft line drive in the shallow center field.
- 1:01:27Keen racing all the way to third base. The Giants have runners at first and third. Only one out and the batter will be Philippe Malou.
- 1:01:41Malou safe on an error his first time in bat. Not an infield single in the fourth inning. At least one for two.
- 1:01:48Once again the Yankee bullpen comes alive. Coltson daily starting to throw.
- 1:01:55Malou. Ball that's in the dirt. Nice pickup by Elston Howard. One ball no strikes.
- 1:02:04The Yankees on the infield are playing Boyer in close at third base. Scowen holding against the runner. Richardson and Cubak are playing back for the double play ball.
- 1:02:15Here's the one and no pitch. A ground ball hit deep inside the left field. Malou hit a ground ball just out of the reach of Cubak.
- 1:02:25Harvey Keen coming in to score. Hiller stops at second base.
- 1:02:35Oh three straight hits here in the fifth inning. The Giants have picked up another run and now lead four to one. The batter is Willie Mays.
- 1:02:46Willie bounced into a double play in the first inning and he walked in the fourth.
- 1:02:54Here's the pitch. A high pop fly outside of first base. Bill Scowen coming over. He has plenty of room. Makes the catch.
- 1:03:02Willie Mays fouls to the first baseman. Let's do down and the batter will be Sepeta.
- 1:03:12Orlando's had a single and a double here in two trips.
- 1:03:21The Giants have runners at first and second with two outs. They've picked up a run here in the fifth. They now lead the Yankees four to one.
- 1:03:32Sepeta right down on the end of the bat waiting on Whitey Ford. Here's the pitch. Ball. It's down low. One ball and a strike.
- 1:03:43The Giants started the scoring in this ball game in the fourth inning when they picked up three. Yankees got one in the top of the inning on a home run by Maris.
- 1:03:51And the Giants have picked up one run here in the bottom half. Here's another curve down low. It's two and oh to Sepeta.
- 1:04:03Action in the Yankee ball panel. Left-hander Bud Daley on a right-hander Jim Coates doing the throwing.
- 1:04:12The court gets set. Here's the two and oh pitch. Ball inside. Three and oh to Orlando.
- 1:04:20He might have been a little careful in his three nothing pitch. Lachman going through some signs. Sepeta really looking at him and Dark has had him hitting an awful lot.
- 1:04:28Three and nothing throughout the whole series. And Sepeta can certainly reach those fences.
- 1:04:32We'll see. Here it is. Stike. He threw the curve ball three and oh Whitey Ford taking no chances on Sepeta jumping on a fastball.
- 1:04:42A ball three and a strike one count. Whitey gets set. Here's the pitch. He swings and lands in the center field.
- 1:04:54And the run in Orlando. Sepeta lined one up the middle in the center field. Killer coming in the score. A low moves around the third base.
- 1:05:04The Giants now lead five to one. As Sepeta has broken out here today he has not had a hit in this series until today he now has three.
- 1:05:15Well Ralph Hough is moving out to the mound right now.
- 1:05:19Here's the ball.
- 1:05:24Ralph Hough has made the call to the bullpen Joe and I believe it's going to be the right hander Jim Cotes. Art throwing Jim Cotes is coming in to base Jim Devamport.
- 1:05:37Big difference in this ball game today so far has been a bad of Orlando. Sepeta the Yankees have been able to stop him up until today but the big guy has broken loose.
- 1:05:46He's got a single left field in a second and ain't nothing happened when he was out there trying to steal.
- 1:05:51Then he had a double and scored in the fourth inning. He has just driven in his second on a double open run. He has just driven in his second run here.
- 1:05:59That's a big RBI for Orlando. Sepeta.
- 1:06:05Actually the two out RBI which is what he has just gotten here. Whitey Ford leads got a nice hand and he's a Giants lead by the store of five to one.
- 1:06:18You all can wonder we talked about it yesterday about what effect it's going to have the off days. Now here's Orlando.
- 1:06:25Now here's Sepeta with a couple days off and he is really roaring back in. That has to be a tremendous lip of these Giants because they've been doing it with a little Pagani leading the pack.
- 1:06:35Two hitters as far as base hits and leading in the World Series. Tresh with eight and Pagani with seven and now Sepeta has come up with three base hits and it has to be a real shot in the arm.
- 1:06:45This is a giant ball club. Right Joe and he had to be breaking out of it. A ball like Sepeta that's been a great hitter since he's been in the major league.
- 1:06:53You just can't hold him in shackles forever. And finally here today he broke out against Whitey Ford as you say he's been the big man.
- 1:07:01A double and two singles. He's driven in two runs. The Giants have five runs on nine hits. They've made one error.
- 1:07:09Yankees one run on one hit. That was a home run by Roger Mers and they've committed two errors.
- 1:07:15So Jim Cote's a big tall right hander. We'll come on to do the pitching here in the fifth inning.
- 1:07:22Cote relies heavily on a fastball. He has a kind of a herky jerky delivery and it's to his advantage. You can't pick up that ball and he too soon on him.
- 1:07:32He does a slider but when he gets in the jam he usually wears back and fires.
- 1:07:37He'll be facing Jimmy Davenport. Jimmy struck out his first time at bat and he's single and drove in a run in the fourth inning when the Giants scored three times.
- 1:07:47Runners at first and third with two outs. The Giants lead five to one. Here's the pitch. Ball outside a curve breaking down and away.
- 1:07:56One ball and no strikes. Davenport a right handed batter. Yankees play him straight away and not too deep.
- 1:08:09Cote's getting sent. There's the one and no pitch. Way up high with this one. Houston Howard has to reach up to flag it down.
- 1:08:18A ball two and a no strike count. Milley Pierce open this inning with a ground ball to short. Harvey Keene single. Chuck Hiller single.
- 1:08:29A loose single for one run. Mays foul to the first baseman and Sepeta single to center field driving in the second run of the inning.
- 1:08:38Now it's a ball to and a no strike count to Davenport. Coats delivers. He swings and fouls it off.
- 1:08:45He'll be out of play back into the crowd. A ball to and a strike one count.
- 1:08:54Whitey Ford fits the first four and two third innings here today. Jim Coats now pitching in relief.
- 1:09:01But daily a left hander continues to throw in the bullpen for the Yankees.
- 1:09:09It's a ball to and a strike one count at Davenport. Here's the pitch. Way up high with another fast ball above the bill of escape.
- 1:09:17Three and one. With a daily is warming up in a bullpen. George and Ed Bailey a good left handed hitting fastball hitter coming up next.
- 1:09:27Now certainly wants coats to get this Davenport because coach may not have a shot at Bailey because you'll have to be matching strength against strength.
- 1:09:35Jim gets up. Here's the three one pitch. He swings and pops it up on the infield.
- 1:09:42Quebec and Richardson are both there and Quebec made the catch after a collision behind the back at second base. Jim Davenport pops to the shortstop.
- 1:09:52Two runs in the inning. Two runs on four hits. There were no errors. Two men left and the score at the end of five pull innings of play.
- 1:09:58The Giants five and the Yankees one.
- 1:10:04Well at the end of five pull innings of play the Giants five runs on nine hits. They've made one error. The Yankees have one run on one hit and they've committed two errors.
- 1:10:14Billy Pierce all the way for the Giants. Whitey Ford started for the Yankees. Jim Coates relieves him with two outs in the fifth inning.
- 1:10:23Leading off in the sixth for the Yankees will be Tony Quebec. He'll be followed by Bobby Richardson then Tom Trash.
- 1:10:30Tony has bounced a second and bounced a third in two trips. Here's ready and here's the first pitch. Ball outside. One ball and a strike.
- 1:10:43Tony was out on a good play by Davenport his last time. Jimmy went far to his left to come up with his ground ball.
- 1:10:50Here's the one in no pitch. A bouncing ball wide at first. Sepeta has it. Here's the throw to Pierce. He is out on a good play by Billy Pierce.
- 1:10:58Sepeta made a high throw to Pierce. The reached up on the dead run made the catch and stepped on the bag in front of Quebec. So there's one off and the batter will be Bobby Richardson.
- 1:11:14Bobby has popped to the shortstop and bounced a third in two trips.
- 1:11:21Little right handed hitting second baseman waiting on Billy Pierce. Billy went into the wind up and then stopped. Now he's ready. The pitch strike. He got a fast ball over.
- 1:11:34One strike to Richardson. Billy into the wind up. The pitch down low. One ball one strike.
- 1:11:47Boy you couldn't ask for a finer baseball afternoon and we're having right here in San Francisco.
- 1:11:57Here's the one one pitch. A ground ball to third. Davenport has it on the big hop to throw the first piece out. Bobby Richardson slowned one. One hop straight to Davenport at third base.
- 1:12:08The pitch down and the batter will be Tom Thresh. Tommy has bounced the short and popped the second in two trips.
- 1:12:21Tommy leads all the players in this series and number of hits he has eight. Pagan has seven for the Giants. Here's a pot attempt he missed the ball. One strike.
- 1:12:33We might see a lot more bunning today with a wet infield a wet dress but very little so far.
- 1:12:43Pierce into the wind up. Here's the pitch. Curve down low. One ball one strike.
- 1:12:51The Yankees batting in the sixth inning. There's two outs with no one on the Giants lead five to one. The pitch to Thresh. A ground ball hit to the second baseman.
- 1:13:00The killer has it to throw the first piece out. Tommy Thresh does out second to first. There are no hits no errors no one left and the score at the end of the first half to sixth inning. The Giants five and the Yankees one.
- 1:13:15Now we go into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Giants in front by score a five to one. Ed Bailey will lead off. He'll be followed by Jose Pagan and then Billy Pierce.
- 1:13:27Jim Coates taking his warm up crosses. Jim pitching in relief of Whitey Ford who started the small game for the Yankees.
- 1:13:36Bailey's offer too. He's been to the plate in the second inning and again in the fourth inning both times a strikeout picked him against Ford.
- 1:13:49They had a big left handed batter. Coates looking in to get the sign. Here's the first pitch. Wall it's in tight. One ball and a strike. The Giants picked up three in the fourth two in the fifth.
- 1:14:08The Yankees got their lone run in the fifth inning. Coming on a home run by Roger Maris. It's been the only hit off Billy Pierce. Jim didn't like the baseball. He tossed it in the Charlie Berry getting a new one.
- 1:14:27Ed Bailey the lead off man. One ball and no strikes. Jim ready. Here's the one and no pitch. Ball. Oh strike says Barry. The delayed call on that one. And Bailey didn't like the call. One ball one strike.
- 1:14:46And Bailey can come up with those good ones to remember that day Burkard was working behind the plate. The first pitch of the game Bailey was catching and all he said was well I see you're not going to have a perfect day today.
- 1:14:57One ball one strike. Coates ready. The pitch. Strike two. The fastball over the outside corner. One ball two strikes.
- 1:15:12The ball is in the mid right down on the end of the bat waiting. Here's the one two pitch. Turn ball he struck him out. Bailey goes down swinging. One away. And the batter will be the shortstop. Jose Pagan.
- 1:15:28The shortstop and the third baseman in two shifts today. Little fellow leads the Giants in number of hits. He has seven. Seven for 16 right now.
- 1:15:47The coach for the first time today. The pitch is popped up outside of first base. Scouring is chasing it. He can't get it. This one about a step from the fence. Moves chasing it down the right field line and over near the stand.
- 1:16:02One strike to Pagan. I thought he was going to have a little help from one of the customers there for a moment Joe. He was about to step out of the seats and make the play on it.
- 1:16:14The ball pours ready to make the play. That's a little tough around at the box seats because it's still a bit soggy and you're kind of tiptoeing through the tulips when you go after those pop balls.
- 1:16:25Coates into the wind up. Here's the one strike pitch. Ball it's up high. Check this swing. One ball one strike. Moose was sort of walking along there like he was walking on eggs and as you said that turf is really wet under the grass.
- 1:16:43One ball one strike to Jose Pagan. We're in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Giants lead five to one. Here's the pitch. A swing in a miss. He fouled tiptoes from right into the myth of Elston Howard.
- 1:16:54Moose was going to have that ball like Willie Jones. Remember Willie Jones and the Phillies?
- 1:16:58I sure do.
- 1:16:59Willie always says feet hurt only when they touch the ground. One ball and two strikes to Pagan. Coats ready. Here's the pitch. Foul ball. This one back on the screen. Still one ball. Two strikes.
- 1:17:14One out with no one on here in the sixth inning. Charlie Berry tossing a new one out to Coats.
- 1:17:28I'm taking a little time. Whitey Ford who started this ball game working very fast for the Yankees but Coats has slowed the pitching pace.
- 1:17:38Here's the one two pitch. He swings and pops it up behind the plate. He's coming back just above our radio booth.
- 1:17:48Gary Giova was all poised and ready to make it. How are you on this pop flat? That's very good. He's always hollered. Come on. Third baseman. Lot of room.
- 1:18:00Still one and two to Jose Pagan. Coats looking in to Elston Howard. Here's the one two pitch. He swings and misses.
- 1:18:17The first ball by him around the letters. Pagan goes down swinging. That's two down and the batter will be Billy Pierce.
- 1:18:24Well a nice round of applause as he comes on.
- 1:18:29Listen Billy and listen to the applause. It's been quite a picture here this afternoon.
- 1:18:36Billy has a perfect record here in Candlestick Park. He's won twelve and lost none. And today he leads the Yankees five to one.
- 1:18:46Billy batting now with two outs and no one on. It's a ground ball slowly to the shot stop. Gubak picks it up. Goes to first. He's out. Billy broke his bat on that one.
- 1:18:56The Giants go out in order. No runs. No hits. No errors. No one left. And the score at the end of sixth San Francisco five. New York one.
- 1:19:15George Kell and Joe Gargiola back at Candlestick Park in San Francisco where the Giants are leading the Yankees by a score of five to one at the end of sixth.
- 1:19:25Here's the paid attendance here today. Forty three thousand nine hundred and forty eight. Forty three thousand nine forty eight. Another capacity house here in Candlestick.
- 1:19:37Well it'll be Mickey Mantle to lead off for the Yankees. He'll be followed by Roger Mearris and then Elston Howard.
- 1:19:45Mickey has fly to center field. Both trips to the plate. Here's the first pitch. Ball it's down low. One ball and no strikes.
- 1:19:55Mantle a switch hitter batting right handed against the left hander Billy Pierce. Billy into the wind up. Here's the one and no pitch.
- 1:20:04He swings and pops it up in the shallow center field. Heller is going back on the grass calling for it. He's got it. There's one away.
- 1:20:13Mickey Mantle pops to the second baseman in shallow center field. Mickey just a bit disgusted when he popped it up. He just stayed at home plate down on one knee and cracked his favorite bat by pounding it into the ground and you can hardly blame him.
- 1:20:27It's been a tough series for Mickey. Roger Mearris the batter. Roger's one for two. He slammed a home run back in the fifth inning to account for the only Yankee run.
- 1:20:40Pierce delivers a curve outside. One ball and no strikes. Mearris hit a curve ball for a home run back in the fifth but it was an inside curve.
- 1:20:51The pitch foul ball. Almost into our radio booth. We've got a couple of near misses here today. One ball one strike. Don Larson a big right hander is throwing the bullpen for the Giants.
- 1:21:08The pitch to Mearris outside. Ball two and strike one. Then the seventh inning there's one out with no one on the Giants lead five to one.
- 1:21:22Pierce gets ready. The pitch. Down low curve ball breaking in the dirt. Three and one to Roger Mearris. Elston Howard waiting in the on deck circle.
- 1:21:35The Giants scored three times in the fourth inning. Two more in the fifth. The Yankees picked up their run in the fifth inning.
- 1:21:46Here starts his wind up and then he stops. Now he's ready. Here's the pitch. Inside he walked in. Roger Mearris draws a walk.
- 1:21:55It's a second walk given up by Pierce. It's a runner at first base with one out and the batter will be the catcher Elston Howard.
- 1:22:06Now he popped to the first baseman back in the second inning. In the fifth inning he was safe on an air about Jimmy Davenport.
- 1:22:17Pierce taking a little time as he looks in. Here's the pitch in the dirt blocked by Bailey. No chance for Mearris to go down.
- 1:22:26One ball and a strike. With Larson warming up at the beginning of the setting George apparently Billy Pierce said something to his manager to kind of watch me.
- 1:22:36Maybe his arm get a little tight. The good pitcher will do that. He'll give his manager a little bit of lead way.
- 1:22:42Here's the one and oh pitch. Ground ball hit the third might be a double play down the second back to first.
- 1:22:51Elston Howard hit into a fast double play. Third to second to first. No runs no hits no errors no one left.
- 1:22:58And the score at the end of the first half of seventh inning. The Giants five and the Yankees one.
- 1:23:08We move along into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Giants out in front of the Yankees by score a five to one.
- 1:23:14We'll be the top of the batting order for San Francisco here in the seventh. Harvey Keane will lead off followed by Chuck Hiller and then Fully Pallew.
- 1:23:27Harvey had a single his last time at bat. That was back in the fifth inning. His first hit in this World Series is one for three today.
- 1:23:38Jim coach into the wind up. Here's the pitch to Keane strike. He got a fast ball over.
- 1:23:45Marshall Bridge is a left hander and throwing in the bullpen for the Yankees.
- 1:23:50What daily was throwing a little earlier. A pitch to Keane. There's a drive the first base.
- 1:23:57Karen picks it up on the first hop steps on the bag and Keane is out. Harvey reached out on a fast ball and slammed it hard.
- 1:24:04A low liner one hop right straight to Bill Scowran. One away and the batter will be Chuck Hiller.
- 1:24:14Chuck said two hits today in three trips. There's a total of seven hits in this World Series.
- 1:24:25The first pitch. He swings and misses. Fast ball around the knees. A one strike count.
- 1:24:34The Giants have out hit the Yankees here today nine to one. The only hit off Billy Pierce has been a home run by Roger Maris.
- 1:24:43There's a one strike pitch. Ground ball gets the second base. Bobby Richardson has it. The throw to first he's out.
- 1:24:49Hiller goes out second to first. That's two down and the batter will be Philippe Ballou.
- 1:24:56Philippe has been on all three times today. Safe on an error in the first inning.
- 1:25:01Singled and scored a run in the fourth and he singled again in the fifth inning.
- 1:25:08The single in the fifth inning drove in a run.
- 1:25:15Coats into the wind up in the pitch. He swings it at the long drive at his serving foul down the left field line.
- 1:25:22Ballou had the distance on that one but he got out and tried.
- 1:25:28A one strike count. Giants batting in the bottom of the seventh. There's two outs with no one on.
- 1:25:34The Yankees five to one.
- 1:25:41Game number seven if necessary will be played right here tomorrow afternoon.
- 1:25:45Here's the pitch. Inside a high inside fastball. Allu has to go down. One ball one strike.
- 1:25:55And if we wanted to ask for our favorite top weather we'd ask for the same day that we're having right here today.
- 1:26:02There's no miss on a curve. One ball two strikes. This is just a perfect baseball afternoon.
- 1:26:10The sky is clear here about 10 o'clock on Saturday night. Bright sunshiney day yesterday but the field was in no condition to play.
- 1:26:19And another fine afternoon. One and two to Philippe Ballou.
- 1:26:26The pitch. Ball. It's a pass. Leaving the count at two and two.
- 1:26:34Yankees playing deep and around to the left. Allu taking a little time out of the box for a moment.
- 1:26:45Coach gets ready. Here's the two to pitch. A ground ball hits with the second baseman Richardson has it.
- 1:26:52First he's up. Philippe Ballou goes out second to first. No runs. No hits. No errors. No one left.
- 1:26:58And the score at the end of seven pull innings of play. A Giants five and the Yankees one.
- 1:27:07Now we move along into the top of the eighth inning. The Giants leading five to one.
- 1:27:11Marshall Bridges is throwing in the bullpen for the Yankees. Jim Coats has left the bench and gone to the clubhouse in deep right field.
- 1:27:20So it looks like we'll have a pinch batter or Coats here in the eighth inning.
- 1:27:24Bill Scowern will lead it off. Followed by Boyer and then Coats scheduled to be the third batter.
- 1:27:29But Coats has gone to the clubhouse in deep right field. Scowern has fly to center field both drips to the plate.
- 1:27:40Yankees have but one hit off Billy Pierce. There's a fastball inside. One ball and no strikes.
- 1:27:48The five to one ball game. Five runs on nine hits for San Francisco. One run one hit for the Yankees.
- 1:27:55Pierce delivers. Here's a fly ball hit deep to left. Keene is drifting back. He's got the room on this one.
- 1:28:01Now he's coming in a few steps. Makes the gap. That one was hit a mile high in the left field.
- 1:28:06Harvey was having a lot of trouble not only with his son but with his high sky Joe.
- 1:28:12Not a cloud in that sky. Not those little angels that help the ball players and on every pop fly and every fly ball.
- 1:28:18They not only flip the glasses. They've been shading with the glove with their meat hand getting all the help they can possibly muster.
- 1:28:24It's a tough play. There's play to Spoyer. Howl to the catcher in the third inning. Walked in the fifth.
- 1:28:32Pierce delivers a liner down the left field line. It's in there. That's when rolling into the bullpen.
- 1:28:37There you are. Blackfield the batter for Jim Coast.
- 1:28:44Oh there's out a couple of steps and then he was called back by manager Ralph out but now he's coming on.
- 1:28:52And John bullpen jumps in action too George.
- 1:28:56Larson and Odell at the first to a loud foul. They're up in Adam.
- 1:29:02The Yankees have a runner at second base with one out. That was hit number two off Billy Pierce.
- 1:29:08And Hector Lopez a right handed batter will come on to bat for Jim Coast.
- 1:29:15We're in the top of the eighth inning. The Giants are leading five to one.
- 1:29:21Odell and Larson throwing in the bullpen for the Giants.
- 1:29:26Here's a pitch to Lopez. It's in the dirt. Nice pickup by Bailey.
- 1:29:31One ball and a strike.
- 1:29:35Willie May has asked Philippe Ballou the right field to move closer towards the right field line although Lopez is the right handed hitter.
- 1:29:41He hit that ball from center field over towards the right field line.
- 1:29:45Pierce checks his runner. Here's the pitch. Strike he got a curve ball over.
- 1:29:50One and one to Lopez.
- 1:29:56Jim Coast pitched a seven batters here today pitching in relief and he retired all seven batters.
- 1:30:03Here's the one one pitch. High fly ball hit the right center field.
- 1:30:08A Lou calling for it. May's over there. A Lou makes the catch.
- 1:30:12Four years going to hold on at second base.
- 1:30:15Lopez drilling one in the deep right center but a Lou of a lot of time to go back and get under.
- 1:30:21Saw those two outs and the batter will be Tony Cuback.
- 1:30:31They were playing him just about right and May's was over in right center and a Lou playing deep and over near the line for Lopez as they were playing him to hit the right and right center field.
- 1:30:43Cuback's 0-3 today. Here's the first pitch. Strike. High fly ball in at the meeting.
- 1:30:51Plate Boyer is down at second base with two outs. The Giants lead the Yankees five to one here in the eighth inning.
- 1:30:58Billy Pierce delivers down low. High fly ball over the plate but two low. One ball one strike.
- 1:31:11The Giants switch to left field for Cuback. Shading him much as he did Lopez. Just the opposite.
- 1:31:18Here's the one one pitch. Here's a fly ball in the left center.
- 1:31:22Keen racing in fast. Did he get it? No it got away from him.
- 1:31:26Cuback is going to hold on at first base. Boyer comes in to score. Harvey Keen died for the ball.
- 1:31:32He had it in his glove and it popped out. Rolled away from him.
- 1:31:36It'll be a single-file Cuback. Boyer coming in to score.
- 1:31:42Jim Honichick, the umpire at second base, raced out in the left center to see if Keen still had the ball.
- 1:31:48Cuback had some ideas. George had gone on over to second base but Willie May, hustling back and up to play, came up with that ball.
- 1:31:55And once Willie had it in his hands, Cuback scooted back to first base.
- 1:32:00And then he makes it a five to two ball game. Cuback at first base with two outs in the batter. Bobby Richardson.
- 1:32:11Bobby's over three today. He's popped to the shortstop and twice he has bounced to third base.
- 1:32:18Pierce delivers. Outside. Fast ball off the corner. One ball and no strike.
- 1:32:25Chance five in the Yankees two here in the eighth inning.
- 1:32:31Here's the one and no pitch. A swing in him in. One ball, one strike.
- 1:32:37Now Larson has taken his seat in the bullpen for the Giants.
- 1:32:43And Stu Miller getting up to throw along with Billy O'Dell, the left-hander.
- 1:32:49Here's the one-one pitch. High fly ball in the left field.
- 1:32:53Keen coming in. Faghan going out. Keen shading his eyes. He's got it.
- 1:32:58Florida is giving him a lot of trouble out there today but he's played with it.
- 1:33:02The Yankees pick up one run in the inning on two hits. There's one man left in the store at the end of the first half of the eighth inning.
- 1:33:09The Giants five in the Yankees two.
- 1:33:14We're getting a new pitcher for the Yankees here in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- 1:33:17It'll be a left-hander, Marshall Bridges. It'll be pitcher number three for Ralph Hough today.
- 1:33:22Whitey Ford started. Jim Coats relieved in the fifth inning.
- 1:33:25And now Bridges here in the eighth inning.
- 1:33:29The Giants have five runs on nine hits. They've made one error.
- 1:33:33The Yankees have two runs on three hits and they've committed two errors.

- 1:33:52Stomps into a double play. Walk and foul to the first baseman. Over two officially.
- 1:33:57The first pitch. Brown ball hits the third. Boyer knocks it down. Not going to be able to make a play.
- 1:34:04The ball took a little bit of a bad hop to Boyer.
- 1:34:08Hops out of his glove and he scored as a single for Willie Mays.
- 1:34:14At the last moment, the ball seemed to come up one Boyer, though, as he was set to field it.
- 1:34:19Hops out of his glove and Mays is given an in-field single.
- 1:34:24The 10th hit for the Giants. The runner at first base with no one out. Here's Sopeta.
- 1:34:30He swings and fouls it back. One strike to Orlando.
- 1:34:34Sopeta's had a double and two singles today. He scored one run and driven in two.
- 1:34:44Luis Arroyo throwing in the bullpen for the Yankees. Arroyo left-hander. Here's the pitch.
- 1:34:51Ball outside. One ball, one strike.
- 1:34:58Five to two. The Giants leading. We're in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- 1:35:02Willie Mays at first base with no one out. Here's the pitch.
- 1:35:06High fly ball behind Sharks Stop. Kubeck is calling for this one.
- 1:35:11Shades his eyes and he makes the catch. Sopeta pops to the Sharks Stop.

- 1:35:39Why show bridges looking in? Here's the pitch.
- 1:35:43Curve ball. He swings and misses. One strike to Davenport.
- 1:35:49Yankees back on the infield with the exception of Scouron who holds against the runner at first base.
- 1:35:54Willie's getting a big lead. The pitch is outside.
- 1:35:58One ball, one strike.
- 1:36:02Willie has that green light to go anytime he gets a good jump and he's been building up that lead.
- 1:36:06He didn't want to take the bat out of Sopeta's hands but with Davenport up there you can look for anything.
- 1:36:12Bridges checks his runner. Here's the one-one pitch. Bow ball.
- 1:36:17This one off to the right. Willie gave a bluff as if he were going and Davenport swung trying to hit the ball in the right field.
- 1:36:23A lot of batters can see the runner going and then they make a hit-and-run play out of it.
- 1:36:28Just push the ball behind him and it looked like that's what Jimmy was trying to do.
- 1:36:31He thought Willie was on his way but may he stop.
- 1:36:36One ball, two strikes.
- 1:36:42Aroya throwing in the bullpen for the Yankees. All quiet in the giant bullpen.
- 1:36:47There goes the runner. Here's the throw down to second base. He is safe.
- 1:36:51The ball got away from Bobby Bridges. He's in the top for a high throw.
- 1:36:57Ready to put the tag on Willie and it pops out of his glove.
- 1:37:02So May is at second base with one out. It's a ball two and a strike two counter Davenport.
- 1:37:14There's no error on the play. It'll be a stolen base for Willie.
- 1:37:21Jimmy Davenport waiting on Marshall Bridges. There's a two-two pitch.
- 1:37:26Bow ball. This will be out of play back into the upper deck. Still two and two.
- 1:37:35The wind is picking up a little bit. It's blowing from the left field corner into right field.
- 1:37:40With the right hand hitter Davenport up there, Kubeck is playing near the hole and Willie only has to watch Bobby Richardson.
- 1:37:46He's able to get a big, big jump off second base.
- 1:37:50Bridges steps off. He pluss Willie back at second. May is taking a big lead.
- 1:37:55The two-two pitch. High pop fly behind second.
- 1:37:59Richardson drifting back on the edge of the outfield grass waiting. He's got it.
- 1:38:04Davenport pops to second base. Two down and the batter will be Ed Bailey.
- 1:38:14Here it has struck out three times today.
- 1:38:18Fights against Whitey Ford and once against Jim Coates. Facing Marshall Bridges for the first time.
- 1:38:26The Giants lead five to two. We're in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- 1:38:31Here's the pitch. Swing and a miss. He got the curve by him. One strike.
- 1:38:37Giants have out hit the Yankees. Tim the three.

- 1:38:49Spike to the Bailey.
- 1:38:53Willie Mays is on its second base with two outs here in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- 1:38:59Bailey taking a little time steps out of the box.
- 1:39:04Ed right down on the end of the bat.
- 1:39:09Bridges checks his runner. The pitch. There's a long belt that is curving foul down the right field line.
- 1:39:17Bailey getting out in front on the fastball pulling it foul. Still strike two.
- 1:39:26Well if there's a seventh game here tomorrow the pitchers more than likely will be Bill Stafford for the Yankees
- 1:39:31and Jack Sanford for the Giants.
- 1:39:37Here's the two strike pitch. A ground ball hit to the second baseman. Richardson moves in.
- 1:39:41Clips the first. He's out. Bailey goes out second to first. No runs on one hit.
- 1:39:47There went away as one man left and the score at the end of eight. The Giants five and the Yankees two.
- 1:39:54The lineup changed for the Giants here in the ninth inning. Maddie Allure has gone in to play left field in place of Harvey Key.
- 1:40:01And we've just been notified that the starting pitchers tomorrow will be Ralph Terry for the Yankees and Jack Sanford
- 1:40:08for the Giants in case of a seventh ball game.
- 1:40:14Maddie Allure has gone in to play left field in place of Keyne here in the ninth inning.
- 1:40:20The first pitch will be the lead off man followed by Mickey Mantle and then Roger Maris.
- 1:40:25The Giants are leading five to two here in the top of the ninth inning.
- 1:40:31Tres is looking for his first hit today. He's bounced the short pop to second and bounced to the second baseman.
- 1:40:38Here's ready and here's the first pitch. He swings and fouls it back.
- 1:40:42Bailey on the foot. Rows off to the right. A one strike count.
- 1:40:51So if there is a seventh game tomorrow it'll be Terry against Sanford. A couple of right handers.
- 1:40:59Here's a one strike pitch. Foul ball. It's back in the crowd. Strike two to try.
- 1:41:11Let me take a little time before he gets back into the box.
- 1:41:15A switch hitter batting right handed against Billy Pierce.
- 1:41:21Billy into the wind up. Here's the two strike pitch. Ball it's a pass. One and two.
- 1:41:30The Giants five the Yankees two. We're in the ninth inning.
- 1:41:37Here's ready. Here's the one two pitch. Here's a foul ball hit in the left center field.
- 1:41:42Mays and Alu moving over and Alu makes the catch. Really sliding down to get out of the way of Matty Alu as he raced in the left center.
- 1:41:51He gets the foul ball off the bat of Tommy Trace. That's one out and the batter will be Mickey Mantle.
- 1:42:00Twice Mickey has flied the center field and in the seventh inning he popped to the second baseman.
