Latest / Predictable with Stu Burguiere / Ep 1107 | Americans Are Drinking LESS BOOZE! But What Gives?? | Guest: Dave Landau
Transcript
- 0:01Stu does America.
- 0:06Welcome to the program.
- 0:07We've got Dave Landau coming up here in a
- 0:08minute with his very impressive knowledge of Snoop Dogg,
- 0:11uh,
- 0:11but we're gonna start though by doing
- 0:13the United States.
- 0:15Of booze,
- 0:16mm,
- 0:16you know,
- 0:17and one of the things we try to do on the show is,
- 0:19uh,
- 0:20we try to get less distracted
- 0:23by sort of the nonsense out there,
- 0:25you know,
- 0:25whatever the big outrage of the day is,
- 0:27and try to bring you,
- 0:28you know,
- 0:29things that actually matter that are
- 0:31interesting about our
- 0:33society,
- 0:33our culture.
- 0:35It's sort of try to move it along on that,
- 0:37uh,
- 0:37that front.
- 0:38It's not always easy because I think,
- 0:39you know,
- 0:40there's a lot of splashy stuff that does really well on social media.
- 0:42But like sometimes things happen and we don't even notice
- 0:44them because of all that craziness that's out there.
- 0:47And this is,
- 0:48I think,
- 0:49a case.
- 0:49This is sort of an amazing development.
- 0:52US drinking
- 0:53has dropped to
- 0:54a new low,
- 0:56according to a brand new Gallup poll.
- 0:59This is consistent with other research suggesting young people are drinking less.
- 1:02The annual Monitoring the Future survey,
- 1:04a national poll of substance use,
- 1:06has shown a significant decline in young people's drinking over the last
- 1:09decade,
- 1:09and
- 1:10it's sort of a societal trend that's been going on.
- 1:13You know,
- 1:13under the current kind of,
- 1:14like
- 1:16not being affected by our day to day politics.
- 1:18It's just
- 1:18happening
- 1:19and it is a,
- 1:21uh,
- 1:21I think a move in really the right direction.
- 1:23Let me give you some
- 1:24of the charts that go through this.
- 1:26It's Chartapalooza time.
- 1:27Conserv nerds
- 1:29unite.
- 1:30Americans' use of alcoholic beverages from 1939
- 1:33to 2025.
- 1:35What you see is it
- 1:37really,
- 1:37really consistent.
- 1:38Honestly,
- 1:39like there's,
- 1:39there's
- 1:40bits and pieces in the 70s,
- 1:41certainly it was a high time for drinking
- 1:43uh through World War Two,
- 1:44kind of went up there as well.
- 1:46Uh,
- 1:46pretty flat,
- 1:47um,
- 1:47for the most part between
- 1:491985 and 2015 or so,
- 1:52we did see a bit of a bump in the COVID era,
- 1:54you see that little point.
- 1:55But since then,
- 1:57It has been almost a straight line down
- 1:59to the lowest level ever measured since 1939.
- 2:02Now it's not that far below previous lows to say for sure
- 2:08this is a lasting trend.
- 2:09It's something I want to make sure
- 2:11I point out to you because,
- 2:13you know,
- 2:14we're we're stat nerds and I don't want to oversell this.
- 2:17It's,
- 2:17it's the beginning of what appears to be
- 2:19a trend,
- 2:20but not necessarily one that is definitely going to last for a long time,
- 2:24but it is the lowest it's been since 1939.
- 2:26Where they say 54%,
- 2:29this is down from the highs of about 72%,
- 2:32using alcohol down to about 54%,
- 2:35and you know,
- 2:36I would say.
- 2:372/3 to 3/4 of that
- 2:39has happened
- 2:40since COVID,
- 2:41so pretty significant.
- 2:43It seems significant.
- 2:44Now
- 2:45where this has changed is really interesting,
- 2:47and I wonder
- 2:48if this is maybe related to like an embrace
- 2:52of the maha type of movement a little bit because
- 2:55here's the breakdown by trend in subcategory.
- 2:59How many times on podcasts today have you heard trends and subcategories?
- 3:03This is the,
- 3:04how do you guys even watch this?
- 3:05It's just the nerdiest show of all time.
- 3:07Uh,
- 3:07US adults,
- 3:08uh,
- 3:08from 62 in 2023 to 58% using alcohol in 2024,
- 3:132025 down to 54%.
- 3:16Uh,
- 3:16Men and women,
- 3:16you saw a 5 point drop among men,
- 3:19an 11 point drop
- 3:20among women,
- 3:22white adults,
- 3:23an 11 point drop,
- 3:24only a 2 point drop of people of color,
- 3:26which was their breakout there.
- 3:28So a little bit of a change here,
- 3:30but not nearly the biggest one.
- 3:32The ages,
- 3:32you know,
- 3:33it was between 5 and 10 points,
- 3:34but not that much variety.
- 3:36Income was interesting because a huge drop between
- 3:38people who are under 40,000 and over 100,000.
- 3:42Big drops,
- 3:42double digit drops,
- 3:4313 and 14 points.
- 3:44Only a slight drop in the middle class there between 400,000 and 100,000.
- 3:48If you want to define that,
- 3:49that's how they define the middle class in this particular chart.
- 3:52But the one I really want to draw your attention to is the one at the bottom.
- 3:54This is fascinating.
- 3:56Party ID.
- 3:58Who's stopping their drinking more than anybody else?
- 4:00Well,
- 4:00uh,
- 4:01Republicans.
- 4:01Um,
- 4:02if you look at,
- 4:03uh,
- 4:03back in 2023,
- 4:05again,
- 4:05this is just before the election,
- 4:07you know,
- 4:07Joe Biden's in there,
- 4:08we had a lot of reason to drink.
- 4:10You know,
- 4:10you can pound them all day
- 4:11when Joe Biden's president of the United States.
- 4:13It was 65% of Republicans drank,
- 4:1661% of independents,
- 4:17and 64% of Democrats.
- 4:19So basically the same.
- 4:22Update us now to 2025,
- 4:24these new numbers that have just come out.
- 4:25It's 61% for Democrats,
- 4:27so a 3 point drop
- 4:29among Democrats in two years.
- 4:30Independents,
- 4:31it went from 65,
- 4:3361 to 55%,
- 4:34so a 6 point drop.
- 4:36The real difference
- 4:37though here.
- 4:38Republicans went from 65
- 4:41to 46%,
- 4:43a 19 point drop in two
- 4:46years
- 4:47among Republicans,
- 4:49and when it comes to percentage of people who actually consume alcohol,
- 4:52that is.
- 4:54Massive.
- 4:55I can't believe that has been replicated in any previous year.
- 4:58That is an incredible drop now.
- 5:01You know,
- 5:01it's funny because if you think of Maha from the political standpoint,
- 5:06right,
- 5:07really didn't kick in until
- 5:09late 2024
- 5:11because if you think about 2024,
- 5:14um,
- 5:14you know,
- 5:15RFK Junior is running for president.
- 5:16He is bashing Donald Trump on a day to day basis,
- 5:18right?
- 5:19He is.
- 5:19Saying how bad Donald Trump is,
- 5:21he's a fascist and all these other things,
- 5:23um,
- 5:23and then he
- 5:25first calls Kamala Harris and then
- 5:27calls Donald Trump and says,
- 5:28hey,
- 5:29what if I endorse you?
- 5:30Trump,
- 5:30uh,
- 5:31very intelligently,
- 5:32uh,
- 5:33for,
- 5:33for politics,
- 5:33embraces him and
- 5:35has obviously now made him HHS secretary.
- 5:37And the prominence of these views has really risen.
- 5:40Part of this,
- 5:41I think too,
- 5:41is
- 5:42oddly related to the COVID-19
- 5:45vaccine,
- 5:46which,
- 5:47um,
- 5:47you know,
- 5:47a lot of conservatives,
- 5:49one of the big arguments on the right was,
- 5:51hey,
- 5:51you know,
- 5:52you,
- 5:52you,
- 5:52you don't need to take this if you're healthy.
- 5:54Because
- 5:55it's not,
- 5:56you know,
- 5:56COVID obviously is not really affecting people who are,
- 5:59you know,
- 6:00a healthy size and and without major health
- 6:03concerns.
- 6:04Part of that is is dropping alcohol,
- 6:05at least in excess,
- 6:07and then,
- 6:08in effect,
- 6:09wound up kind of embracing,
- 6:10rolling into that maybe that maha thing and
- 6:13it seems like that could be part of it.
- 6:15That's just a theory though,
- 6:16frankly.
- 6:16I,
- 6:16I don't know honestly what what is really causing that.
- 6:18Let me give you a couple of other stats and we'll get to this,
- 6:21um,
- 6:22you know,
- 6:22a little bit more on why in a second.
- 6:25The perceived health effects,
- 6:26I think,
- 6:26is definitely part of it.
- 6:27This is not just maha,
- 6:28but it's also studies that have come out
- 6:30and said,
- 6:30hey,
- 6:31alcohol is actually not
- 6:32good for you.
- 6:33Remember,
- 6:33for years and years and years and years we were told,
- 6:35like a couple of glasses of red wine every day is really good for your heart.
- 6:39There's a lot of that out there.
- 6:41More recent research has been
- 6:42pretty negative on that,
- 6:44um,
- 6:44you know,
- 6:45again,
- 6:46uh,
- 6:47I,
- 6:47I,
- 6:47you know,
- 6:47I will occasionally indulge in in an alcoholic drink,
- 6:52an adult beverage from time to time.
- 6:54Not particularly regularly,
- 6:55but from time to time I will.
- 6:58You know,
- 6:59I don't think
- 7:00the new research shows a devastatingly terrible effect,
- 7:04frankly,
- 7:04from a moderate to
- 7:06Light alcohol
- 7:07use,
- 7:08but
- 7:09this idea that it was good for you for a long time also does not seem to be accurate.
- 7:14And so
- 7:15people have kind of learned that.
- 7:16Let me show you that chart again,
- 7:17sorry,
- 7:17I talked over it.
- 7:19So is it bad for your health?
- 7:20Well,
- 7:21in 2001,
- 7:22only about
- 7:2327,
- 7:2428% thought it was bad for your health.
- 7:25That's doubled
- 7:26since then and really doubled mostly since
- 7:302018.
- 7:32It went from about 29% to 53%,
- 7:35so almost a double.
- 7:37Do you think it makes no difference at all?
- 7:39It was always around half of people believed that.
- 7:41Now it's down to 37%,
- 7:43and people who think it's good for your health.
- 7:45It used to be,
- 7:46I mean in 2005,
- 7:47it was
- 7:48about 26% of people
- 7:50believed it was good for your health,
- 7:52which is
- 7:53No,
- 7:53it's hard to know.
- 7:53I mean,
- 7:54obviously heavy drinking,
- 7:55everyone kind of knew,
- 7:56but the light drinking was at least talked about at that time as
- 7:59maybe positive for your heart and other things.
- 8:02That's dropped now from 26% to only 6% currently
- 8:06believe that.
- 8:07By age,
- 8:08it kind of is
- 8:09shaking out in an interesting way as well.
- 8:11Older people,
- 8:12I mean every age group has risen,
- 8:14but the younger people seem to have a more
- 8:18Strongly held belief that it is bad for you.
- 8:20It's gone 2015
- 8:22from 30% all the way up to 66%
- 8:25among younger people
- 8:27who believe it's bad for them.
- 8:29That type of increase has happened as well in other groups.
- 8:32Older people from 20% to 48%,
- 8:36middle age from,
- 8:38let's say 28% to 50%.
- 8:42So again,
- 8:42doubling,
- 8:43tripling in some cases.
- 8:44The
- 8:45number of drinks consumed in the past week that is dropping as well.
- 8:48It's always been around 4.
- 8:51You know,
- 8:51give or take,
- 8:52on average,
- 8:53uh,
- 8:53that has dropped now to under 3,
- 8:55down to 2.8.
- 8:57And,
- 8:58uh,
- 8:58what,
- 8:58what do they like to drink?
- 8:59This is just an interesting stat really outside of the point of this,
- 9:02but,
- 9:02uh,
- 9:03uh,
- 9:03you know,
- 9:03liquor is rising a little bit.
- 9:04Everything else,
- 9:05uh,
- 9:05down
- 9:06from the old days.
- 9:07Liquor is up a little bit,
- 9:08maybe the fancy drinks people like.
- 9:09A lot of the mocktails out there now too.
- 9:11I mean,
- 9:11a lot of this stuff is,
- 9:12is interesting.
- 9:12And what does this mean?
- 9:13First of all,
- 9:14I just want to point it out,
- 9:15because we get wrapped up in the terrible news all the time.
- 9:18You know,
- 9:18all the stuff that's going on with woke and
- 9:20DEI and what's happening with kids in schools and,
- 9:23uh,
- 9:24you know,
- 9:24violence and uh you know,
- 9:26in the,
- 9:26in the streets of our cities and
- 9:28crazy leftists doing what they do.
- 9:31This is just happening.
- 9:33Like we're not covering it on a day to day basis.
- 9:35It's a generational tilt,
- 9:37it seems like,
- 9:38and
- 9:39we all know there's a lot of bad effects to alcohol and
- 9:41a lot of good things can come out of people drinking less.
- 9:44Obviously health is part of it,
- 9:45but it's not just,
- 9:46it's not all.
- 9:47I mean,
- 9:48fewer car accidents,
- 9:49for example,
- 9:50that also should come from,
- 9:51you know,
- 9:52the automated driving type stuff that's around the corner,
- 9:54but like
- 9:55really positive change,
- 9:57right?
- 9:57For people not maybe drinking and driving,
- 9:59and that's all
- 10:00coming down pretty quickly.
- 10:02Uh,
- 10:02you know,
- 10:02the less,
- 10:03uh,
- 10:04maybe fewer random hookups,
- 10:05and I know a lot of you might be saying,
- 10:06if some of you say,
- 10:07wait a minute,
- 10:08uh,
- 10:08you know,
- 10:08I,
- 10:09I,
- 10:09I,
- 10:09I,
- 10:10fewer random hookups,
- 10:11if it wasn't for that,
- 10:12I wouldn't have a family.
- 10:13I understand.
- 10:14OK,
- 10:14I get it,
- 10:15uh,
- 10:15but
- 10:16probably a good thing,
- 10:17um,
- 10:17that,
- 10:17that people are,
- 10:18at least when they're doing their random hookups,
- 10:20they're making the decision sober-minded.
- 10:22Uh,
- 10:22so that's what we have looking for is fewer pregnancies out of wedlock,
- 10:26and,
- 10:27and,
- 10:27and that could be around the corner as well.
- 10:29Um,
- 10:30and I don't know,
- 10:30I was trying to think of what the cause of this is.
- 10:32I think the main cause of it
- 10:34is probably
- 10:35people starting to realize that more clearly,
- 10:38the data is starting to back it up,
- 10:39it's been promoted a lot more that alcohol isn't the best thing for you,
- 10:42particularly in large
- 10:43amounts.
- 10:44In addition to that,
- 10:45I think there is.
- 10:46a,
- 10:46you know,
- 10:46a movement in the maha world,
- 10:48because again,
- 10:48the biggest drop was among
- 10:50right-leaning,
- 10:51um,
- 10:52former
- 10:53drinkers.
- 10:53That's where that really has happened.
- 10:55It hasn't happened as much on the left.
- 10:57So,
- 10:57and you gotta think with Donald Trump in office,
- 10:59they're gonna start drinking probably much more very soon.
- 11:01Uh,
- 11:02but,
- 11:02you know,
- 11:02you,
- 11:03you get the point there.
- 11:04It,
- 11:04it is,
- 11:04it's a little conflicting.
- 11:06Another part of that I thought was interesting,
- 11:07particularly younger generations,
- 11:08I was talking to somebody this morning and they were saying,
- 11:10uh,
- 11:10you know,
- 11:11I don't know,
- 11:11what could it be?
- 11:12We were kind of tossing ideas back and forth,
- 11:13and he made the uh the observation.
- 11:15Maybe it's one of the very few upsides of social media,
- 11:20because kids are constantly,
- 11:22uh,
- 11:22you know,
- 11:23posting pictures of themselves,
- 11:24then they grow up,
- 11:25they go to college.
- 11:26You know,
- 11:26college used to be,
- 11:27you'd go away,
- 11:28you'd put on the freshman 15,
- 11:29right?
- 11:29You'd pound a bunch of drinks,
- 11:30you'd gain a bunch of weight,
- 11:32you'd look terrible,
- 11:33but at least only your new college friends would know it.
- 11:35You'd be out on your own.
- 11:36Now they're posting pictures of themselves on a day to day basis.
- 11:39You know,
- 11:40and I,
- 11:40you know,
- 11:41everyone in their Instagram photos has to look perfect,
- 11:43as we all know.
- 11:44You can't,
- 11:44God forbid you have a flaw in there.
- 11:47So everyone wants to look their best all the time.
- 11:48You want to look hungover in the morning?
- 11:50Probably not.
- 11:50Everyone wants to look their best.
- 11:52So it's possible
- 11:53the fact that we've created such a vain
- 11:55generation of children
- 11:57is leading to positive
- 11:58effects when it comes to drinking.
- 11:59That doesn't seem like a positive thing,
- 12:01uh,
- 12:02necessarily,
- 12:02but.
- 12:03Uh,
- 12:03it is more positive than,
- 12:05uh,
- 12:05than the other arguments I could come up with.
- 12:07Actually,
- 12:07I think that maybe just health
- 12:09is part of it,
- 12:09and maybe this is a really good effect of,
- 12:11uh,
- 12:12the Maha movement or at least some sort of
- 12:14movement away
- 12:16from things that are perceived as unhealthy.
- 12:17That's a good,
- 12:18a good change,
- 12:20you know,
- 12:20I mean,
- 12:20I,
- 12:20look,
- 12:21there are a lot of things,
- 12:22you know,
- 12:22look,
- 12:22there's stuff to like about alcohol,
- 12:23as you know,
- 12:24I have done,
- 12:25uh,
- 12:25Power Hour here on the program,
- 12:26very egregiously,
- 12:28uh,
- 12:28excessive drinking,
- 12:29uh,
- 12:29on this show from time to time back in the day.
- 12:31It's been a while since we've done one.
- 12:33Um,
- 12:33but
- 12:35You know,
- 12:35there's some,
- 12:36it can add some fun to a weekend,
- 12:37it can be positive,
- 12:38but generally speaking,
- 12:39not a,
- 12:39not a positive
- 12:41societal benefit
- 12:42to it.
- 12:43And the fact that kids
- 12:44and young adults
- 12:46are choosing to drink less,
- 12:48having fewer drinks,
- 12:49is a real positive thing that we don't
- 12:51ever even notice.
- 12:52And that is one of the things I want to draw your attention to from time to time.
- 12:55Things that are really going in the right direction.
- 12:57You know,

- 14:55That's a big,
- 14:56uh,
- 14:56big show.
- 14:56That's the Rogan Place,
- 14:57right?
- 14:58Yes,
- 14:58it is.
- 14:58Yeah,
- 14:58it's his club.
- 14:59I'll be there every night.
- 15:003 shows are already sold out.
- 15:02There's 2 left that aren't,
- 15:03so
- 15:04come to the show.
- 15:05Yes,
- 15:05do that.
- 15:06If you're in Texas,
- 15:07anywhere,
- 15:07go to Austin and check it out.
- 15:09I've heard it's amazing there.
- 15:10It's really great.
- 15:10Yeah,
- 15:11it's really,
- 15:11really great.
- 15:12And it's,
- 15:12it's when a holiday weekend pays off,
- 15:14kind of,
- 15:15because people want to be out on a Sunday night,
- 15:17so it's,
- 15:17it's good,
- 15:18right?
- 15:18God,
- 15:19it's a holiday weekend this weekend.
- 15:20Um,
- 15:21I wanted to,
- 15:22before we get into,
- 15:22I have a couple of stories I want to hit with you,
- 15:24but we just did a monologue on,
- 15:26uh,
- 15:26alcohol,
- 15:27and
- 15:28we weren't actually drinking,
- 15:29I'm saying it was about alcohol,
- 15:30and we were,
- 15:32sure,
- 15:32um,
- 15:33but what
- 15:34I thought was fascinating is a new study that came out,
- 15:36um,
- 15:37over the past couple of weeks
- 15:38that shows that
- 15:39every generation,
- 15:40every age,
- 15:42drinking less alcohol,
- 15:43um,
- 15:44and I,
- 15:45you know,
- 15:45it's an interesting thing because I felt like in the
- 15:48COVID era.
- 15:49It like skyrocketed.
- 15:51Everyone was just like pounding drinks all the time,
- 15:53and that has now fallen off and the fact
- 15:55that especially younger generations are really like saying.
- 15:59You know what?
- 15:59No thanks.
- 16:00I,
- 16:00I,
- 16:01I mean,
- 16:01that's a
- 16:01really positive thing,
- 16:02right?
- 16:02I feel like I always bring negative news,
- 16:04but that's a really positive development.
- 16:06No,
- 16:06I think it is positive.
- 16:07I mean,
- 16:07when I was young,
- 16:08that was part of growing up was you had to get drunk,
- 16:10you had to hang out with your friends.
- 16:11Well,
- 16:11you didn't have to,
- 16:11but I mean,
- 16:12it was what everybody did.
- 16:13It's common.
- 16:14Well,
- 16:14I mean,
- 16:14Dazed and Confused was in the 70s.
- 16:16We watched in the 90s and.
- 16:18Behaved as such it was the exact same thing like
- 16:20everybody continued doing it and I think
- 16:23the the younger generation is strange to me.
- 16:25They're not crazy about cars.
- 16:27They don't like to drink.
- 16:28It's probably a good thing that's a combo,
- 16:30um,
- 16:31but yeah,
- 16:31it's,
- 16:31they just,
- 16:32they're more interested in everything else.
- 16:35Why?
- 16:36They probably saw us.
- 16:38They're like,
- 16:39I read Dave Landau's book and so I'm off.
- 16:41No way.
- 16:41I'm my uncle Dave,
- 16:42I don't know,
- 16:43he's,
- 16:43he always seems,
- 16:45he always seems like something's off and it's like a little bit,
- 16:47yeah,
- 16:48from years of bad choices.
- 16:50I think that's what it is,
- 16:50is they realize that their brain has a function and if they don't destroy it,
- 16:54they can go further.
- 16:56But like,
- 16:56to me that was shenanigans.
- 16:58Right,
- 16:58right,
- 16:58it was.
- 16:59I,
- 16:59I will say
- 17:00every generation had that possibility to uh to observe,
- 17:04right?
- 17:04Why,
- 17:05you know,
- 17:05someone brought this theory up to me,
- 17:07let me,
- 17:07I'm better drugs.
- 17:09Right,
- 17:09yes.
- 17:10Let's be honest,
- 17:10that's helped.
- 17:11That's helped,
- 17:11yeah.
- 17:12Um,
- 17:13someone brought up to me that I thought this was an interesting theory in that
- 17:16the,
- 17:17all the negatives that come along with social media.
- 17:20The other side of that is you're constantly posting photos of yourself.
- 17:24And it's like when you go to college and you put on the freshman 15,
- 17:27you know,
- 17:27your,
- 17:28your new friends see it,
- 17:30maybe your parents see it when they come and visit,
- 17:31but like,
- 17:32it wasn't on display to everybody,
- 17:34right?
- 17:34And like you getting up hungover in the morning and you're just like,
- 17:38look like a wreck.
- 17:39Now they're posting pictures of themselves.
- 17:40Maybe the fact that they're so vain is actually helping their alcoholism.
- 17:43I think that's what it is,
- 17:44yeah,
- 17:45it's the fact.
- 17:45That they are being tracked and monitored at every second,
- 17:48they can't get away with it.
- 17:49Yeah,
- 17:49that's sad though.
- 17:50It's terrible,
- 17:51but it's also in some ways good,
- 17:53I guess.
- 17:53No,
- 17:53it's good because I have a kid,
- 17:54but I mean,
- 17:55I feel sad he can't get away with anything,
- 17:57right?
- 17:57There's no getting away with it.
- 17:58That's a good point.
- 17:59If,
- 17:59yeah,
- 18:00because if anything that I did was actually filmed
- 18:02and recorded and everything we did was a snapshot,
- 18:05I'd be in prison,
- 18:06and I'm not kidding.
- 18:06I mean like multiple life sentences.
- 18:08I've read your book,
- 18:09Dave.
- 18:09I know,
- 18:10I know.
- 18:11In fact,
- 18:12you should know that if you don't want these things to be monitored,
- 18:14writing a,
- 18:15a big book is not necessarily the best approach.
- 18:17Well,
- 18:17you just have to look at the statute of limitations,
- 18:20and then once you get past that,
- 18:22you can,
- 18:22you can
- 18:23then write out what you did.
- 18:24Did you have a lawyer look at your book before it was released?
- 18:30We only had to remove one thing.
- 18:33It was an attempted murder.
- 18:34Go on.
- 18:35Wow,
- 18:35OK,
- 18:36good.
- 18:37Uh,
- 18:37let's move on to Cracker Barrel.
- 18:39Uh,
- 18:40no,
- 18:40I assume that.
- 18:41Um,
- 18:41Cracker Barrel is redesigning their logo.
- 18:44Um,
- 18:45first of all,
- 18:45let me just get your vibe on it.
- 18:46Uh,
- 18:4750,000 ft view.
- 18:48Everyone knows the story.
- 18:49Like,
- 18:50I don't know if you would say they were going woke necessarily,
- 18:52but they're certainly going minimalist with it.
- 18:54What's your vibe on it?
- 18:55I didn't care at first and I thought it was an overreaction,
- 18:58but then I saw the woman who came up with the idea,
- 19:00and it's like nobody wants Cracker Barrel redesign
- 19:04in the same way you don't wanna see like
- 19:06the Andy Griffith Show get rebooted or like,
- 19:08you know,
- 19:09like Leave It to Beaver with Elliott Page,
- 19:11you know,
- 19:12like nobody wants to see their grandma transition.
- 19:14Like it's just one of those places that
- 19:17you like the fact that it's.
- 19:19An old
- 19:20rickety whatever it's supposed to be old Cracker Barrel,
- 19:23old country store,
- 19:25and that's all it's supposed to be.
- 19:26And then when you bring on a woman who's wearing fake Jiminy Glick glasses
- 19:31where she just talks down to America,
- 19:34that's the worst spokesperson you can have was
- 19:36like we're just trying to reach for something better
- 19:38like she clearly.
- 19:40Has,
- 19:40uh,
- 19:41herself,
- 19:42but she hates white people in general
- 19:44and everyone true though?
- 19:45Like,
- 19:45I mean she comes up and I'm not saying it's anti-white because if somebody asked me,
- 19:49he goes,
- 19:49it was called Honky Barrel,
- 19:50would you go?
- 19:51I'm like,
- 19:51yeah,
- 19:51I'd go every day
- 19:52because Honky Barrel is a good name.
- 19:54It's a good name.
- 19:55Yeah,
- 19:55I'd put it next to Cracker Barrel.
- 19:57I'd be like,
- 19:57Honky bucket
- 19:59over here and get some.
- 20:02It is
- 20:03that is a that's a trough.
- 20:04Like you're going into that restaurant,
- 20:05it's a big trough of food and it's like you're going down like a horse and eating it.
- 20:08That's,
- 20:08that's what's happening in that,
- 20:10uh,
- 20:10particular establishment which I would totally frequent.
- 20:12Yeah,
- 20:12like she,
- 20:13she just seems like a woman who
- 20:15would tell you how to be an anti-racist
- 20:17but would order DoorDash and then forget it and then
- 20:21call and try to.
- 20:22Figure out why a black robber was leaving something on her porch.
- 20:25Like she just seems like an awful person.
- 20:28Is this it?
- 20:28Wait,
- 20:29is this just your vibe on her?
- 20:30Is this at all true?
- 20:31It's just all appearance.
- 20:32You've seen a side by side of her.
- 20:34There's a picture of her that they use on the site,
- 20:36which is clearly made up,
- 20:38and then there's a picture of her in real life,
- 20:40really?
- 20:40Yeah,
- 20:40it's like 30 years apart.
- 20:43And she's,
- 20:43is she,
- 20:44is she super liberal or is she,
- 20:46she kinda,
- 20:47she has that vibe when I heard her speak.
- 20:49But like I will say,
- 20:50I kind of landed on,
- 20:52you know,
- 20:52there's a line of things I have to care about,
- 20:55and there has to be something below it.
- 20:57I,
- 20:58I,
- 20:58I understand I'm supposed to react
- 20:59hugely to everything,
- 21:01but like,
- 21:01at some level,
- 21:02a restaurant that maybe I hit once or twice a year.
- 21:06Maybe,
- 21:07you know,
- 21:07for breakfast with the kids or something.
- 21:08It's,
- 21:09and I don't mind Cracker Barrel,
- 21:10it's fine.
- 21:10I like walking through the store,
- 21:12but am I really gonna get that fired up about their logo redesign?
- 21:15I just couldn't,
- 21:16I couldn't muster it.
- 21:17I don't care.
- 21:18Like that's the part,
- 21:18like it's a restaurant.
- 21:20I don't care.
- 21:21And I don't really go to Cracker Barrel.
- 21:23But the funny part is,
- 21:24remember when they made the furniture gay?
- 21:26Like the only.
- 21:27The only like trans furniture is a sofa bed.
- 21:30I mean we all know that,
- 21:31but that's a different story altogether.
- 21:33But if you like,
- 21:33remember when they painted the furniture rainbow and that upset people
- 21:37and these are people,
- 21:38if you've been in a Cracker Barrel,
- 21:40they enjoy sitting.
- 21:41Yes,
- 21:42yes,
- 21:42it looks like it's like their favorite hobby is sitting,
- 21:45and what happens when you put cheese and gravy on most of the items,
- 21:48usually,
- 21:49yeah,
- 21:49when you actually have a dish that's 22,000 calories and it's not family style,
- 21:54yeah,
- 21:55so they wouldn't sit on that because it was like a rainbow trans flag color.
- 22:00Do you remember that?
- 22:00Yeah,
- 22:01loosely,
- 22:02yeah,
- 22:02you don't wanna just jump in and go,
- 22:04OK,
- 22:04here's what we've done,
- 22:05and then kind of scold the people that have been coming there.
- 22:08Yeah,
- 22:09because let's face it,
- 22:09they're not,
- 22:10who are you appealing to?
- 22:12Right,
- 22:12because,
- 22:13look,
- 22:13no one on the left is drinking Bud Light or going to Cracker Barrel.
- 22:17No,
- 22:17you know,
- 22:18it's,
- 22:18it is.
- 22:19Uh,
- 22:19it seems to always be the worst examples of this
- 22:22are when
- 22:23there are companies that are,
- 22:25are specifically going after maybe a more conservative,
- 22:28patriotic audience,
- 22:30middle of the country audience,
- 22:31and they try to do this.
- 22:32It's like,
- 22:33you know,
- 22:33uh,
- 22:34uh,
- 22:34what's the stupid,
- 22:35you know,
- 22:35I don't know,
- 22:36some really super woke bread.
- 22:37Ben and Jerry's does something like this.
- 22:38We just all shrug it off because that's who they are.
- 22:40Like we,
- 22:41we,
- 22:41and then you secretly eat it and you don't tell your friends.
- 22:45Just every now and then you're like,
- 22:46look,
- 22:46I'll have some American Dream,
- 22:47but don't tell anybody I'm eating this.
- 22:49It's delicious,
- 22:49and I,
- 22:50I,
- 22:50I don't like either of them.
- 22:52But sometimes,
- 22:54some,
- 22:55sometimes it's good ice cream.
- 22:56It's good ice cream.
- 22:57Exactly.
- 22:57And
- 22:58you know,
- 22:58it's,
- 22:58it's OK.
- 22:59It's,
- 22:59it's,
- 23:00it's ice cream.
- 23:00It's ice cream.
- 23:01I'm not turning it down is all I'm exac exactly.
- 23:03Someone's going,
- 23:04you want some Ben and Jerry's for free.
- 23:05I'm not like,
- 23:06I don't like their policies.
- 23:07I'm like,
- 23:08yeah.
- 23:08It's fine.
- 23:09Who cares?
- 23:10Is their policy chocolate chips still in the ice cream?
- 23:12Like,
- 23:12we agree on something.
- 23:14What are we supposed to do here,
- 23:15Dave?
- 23:15Is it OK?
- 23:16Am I allowed,
- 23:17as a conservative
- 23:19who likes to talk about the issues,
- 23:21can I have something below the caring line?
- 23:24I'm with you.
- 23:25That's where I was because I sat online just by
- 23:27the dip because I knew it was going to plummet,
- 23:30and people were like,
- 23:30oh yeah,
- 23:31like it's gonna go back.
- 23:32Up.
- 23:32Well,
- 23:32it'll go back up a little.
- 23:34I mean,
- 23:34it can't,
- 23:34yes,
- 23:35like go that.
- 23:36I don't know,
- 23:37I'm not saying invest forever.
- 23:38I'm saying invest for 2 days,
- 23:41you know what I mean?
- 23:41It does feel like that.
- 23:42I didn't watch the stock price after the dip,
- 23:44but it does feel like it's gonna come back up.
- 23:45When I was on the Anthony Cumia show,
- 23:46that's what we did.
- 23:47We just,
- 23:48we bought stock based on outrage.
- 23:50We,
- 23:50we got 100% of it accurate,
- 23:53100% of it.
- 23:56Because I,
- 23:56I've noticed that's,
- 23:57and that's a trend I can definitely identify in the conservative media.
- 24:01I'm sure the left does it as well,
- 24:02but like
- 24:03whenever a company does something that we don't like,
- 24:08anything that happens to the company for the next six months is because of us.
- 24:11We're like,
- 24:12oh,
- 24:13they went woke and their stock price went down
- 24:150.34% after lower earnings from a previous quarter.
- 24:19They're like we're like that was us,
- 24:20we swear.
- 24:22I think,
- 24:23I feel like there's a bunch of people in a room too doing that where they're like,
- 24:26how can we make Bud Light stock crash so we
- 24:28can buy it and just get rich and they're like,
- 24:30meet Dylan Mulvaney,
- 24:32one of the most unappealing people on earth.
- 24:34It doesn't even matter what.
- 24:37What
- 24:38she is.
- 24:38Well,
- 24:39that's that,
- 24:39that's kind of,
- 24:40it's funny you bring up Dylan Mulvaney because my first impression of the,
- 24:43I didn't see the Cracker Barrel rebrand and I was like,
- 24:45did they
- 24:45change the logo to Dylan Mulvaney's Spread Eagle?
- 24:48Like what,
- 24:49what,
- 24:50what did they do?
- 24:51People were so outraged.
- 24:52I saw it.
- 24:52I was like,
- 24:53it's just the,
- 24:54it's like a pretty similar font.
- 24:56Like,
- 24:56yes,
- 24:56there's a,
- 24:56and the,
- 24:57and the guy's not sitting there anymore.
- 24:58There's no Cracker or barrel.
- 25:00Yeah,
- 25:00I mean that's what's been removed.
- 25:02And why do I care?
- 25:03Because I don't know.
- 25:04Whenever I see Cracker Barrel.
- 25:05I always go,
- 25:06let's see what else is up the road a bit.
- 25:09That's,
- 25:10that could be the new passion I have for that restaurant.
- 25:12I mean,
- 25:13I,
- 25:13yeah,
- 25:13it's,
- 25:14it's fine,
- 25:14but like I,
- 25:15I,
- 25:15I,
- 25:16I,
- 25:16I,
- 25:16I,
- 25:16I,
- 25:17part of it might also be,
- 25:18you're from Detroit.
- 25:19I'm,
- 25:19I'm from,
- 25:20you know,
- 25:20Connecticut.
- 25:21You know,
- 25:22Cracker Barrel was not part of my
- 25:23everyday,
- 25:24it was like I,
- 25:25there's maybe one in the state,
- 25:26you know,
- 25:27it wasn't one of those things,
- 25:28so maybe I'm just not that locked into it.
- 25:30No,
- 25:30we were like,
- 25:30you know,
- 25:31the one that we had was really kind of far away and we wouldn't go to it.
- 25:37It was just like way out of the city,
- 25:38you know,
- 25:39like it was to and it was really towards nowhere,
- 25:42so there's no reason to,
- 25:43you know,
- 25:43like it was between
- 25:44like a,
- 25:45a faraway bridge to Canada on the other side of the state.
- 25:49It there's no reason.
- 25:49After reading about your childhood,
- 25:51perhaps getting out of the city would have been a,
- 25:52a good idea.
- 25:54That's true,
- 25:54but I'm pretty sure you can still buy drugs behind a Cracker Barrel.
- 25:57Yes,
- 25:57that's,
- 25:57yeah,
- 25:58probably true.
- 25:59Um,
- 25:59let me go one more woke story before we go,
- 26:01um,
- 26:01Snoop.
- 26:03DOG G.
- 26:04DOGG.
- 26:05Uh,
- 26:05I'm sure,
- 26:06and I know you're a huge fan.
- 26:08Um,
- 26:08he,
- 26:09uh,
- 26:10went to a movie
- 26:11with his granddaughter,
- 26:13which is just bizarre to think of him as a grandfather.
- 26:15It does not seem possible.
- 26:17Uh,
- 26:17and it was 2022's Lightyear,
- 26:20the movie.
- 26:21And this is,
- 26:22uh,
- 26:22you know,
- 26:22here's the poster in case you wanted to know what Lightyear's post.
- 26:24Buzz Lightyear,
- 26:25right?
- 26:25Buzz Lightyear.
- 26:26Yeah,
- 26:26it was based off Toy Story,
- 26:27right?
- 26:28So apparently,
- 26:28I don't even remember this,
- 26:29again,
- 26:30another controversy I don't remember,
- 26:31but
- 26:32apparently in there there is a uh a lesbian couple,
- 26:34and they have a child,
- 26:36OK.
- 26:36Um,
- 26:37so Snoop says on a podcast,
- 26:38he's talking about this,
- 26:39he says,
- 26:40Uh,
- 26:40what you see,
- 26:41uh,
- 26:41what you see is what you see.
- 26:42They're putting it everywhere.
- 26:43They're like,
- 26:43she had a baby with another woman.
- 26:45Well,
- 26:45my grandson in the middle of the movie is like Papa Snoop.
- 26:48How,
- 26:49how she have a baby with a woman?
- 26:51She's a woman.
- 26:52OK.
- 26:53Uh,
- 26:53Snoop recalled thinking,
- 26:55oh,
- 26:55I'm gonna do some light editing here for you,
- 26:56Dave.
- 26:57Oh crap,
- 26:58uh,
- 26:58I didn't come in for this crap.
- 27:00I just came in to watch the GD movie.
- 27:02Uh,
- 27:03the voice,
- 27:04uh,
- 27:04coach said the moment effed him up,
- 27:06adding,
- 27:07I'm like,
- 27:07I'm scared to go to the movies.
- 27:09Y'all throwing me in the middle of this crap I don't have an answer for.
- 27:12It threw me for a loop.
- 27:13Like,
- 27:13what part of the movie was this?
- 27:14These are kids.
- 27:15We don't have to show,
- 27:16do we really have to show that at this age?
- 27:18They're going to ask questions.
- 27:19I don't have the answer.
- 27:21But doesn't Snoop have bitches in the living room getting it on?
- 27:24You would
- 27:25think they ain't leaving till 6 in the morning.
- 27:27That's what I've heard.
- 27:28He's got a pocket full of rubbers and his homeboys do too.
- 27:30Really?
- 27:31Yeah.
- 27:32How far,
- 27:32how far could this go on?
- 27:33If I were just to keep saying I could go forever.
- 27:37I could say
- 27:38Dre's the one that discovered him and he grabs the mic and flips his tongue like a
- 27:42see what I'm saying?
- 27:43Wow,
- 27:43there you go,
- 27:44wow.
- 27:45And that's,
- 27:45uh,
- 27:46but that's your,
- 27:47is that your lightly edited version as well,
- 27:49or is that,
- 27:49uh,
- 27:49no,
- 27:49that's for real.
- 27:50I kind of thought you just went right up there out of California,
- 27:52uh,
- 27:54but,
- 27:54uh,
- 27:54if you look at
- 27:55like his house,
- 27:56he's probably got a,
- 27:57an album of doggy style,
- 27:59right?
- 27:59framed.
- 28:00Do they ever just ask,
- 28:01Hey,
- 28:02hey,
- 28:03Papa Snoop,
- 28:04what's this?
- 28:04What's this big golden chalice that says pimp on it?
- 28:07Because you have like 300 of them.
- 28:09It's gotta be a lot of questions.
- 28:10This is a guy who attended the Players Ball.
- 28:12I'm not kidding,
- 28:13the actual
- 28:15Players Ball with Don Magic Wand and real life pimps.
- 28:19Now I.
- 28:20I,
- 28:20I'm 100% of our audience knows
- 28:23all about the Players Ball.
- 28:24It's very familiar with it.
- 28:25We could,
- 28:26for the very random people who might just be tuning in for the first time,
- 28:29how would you explain this event?
- 28:30The Players' Ball is an award show,
- 28:33an award,
- 28:33I shouldn't say a show because it's just done in-house,
- 28:36but it's an award for the best pimping.
- 28:38Best pimping.
- 28:39So you might have best pimp hand,
- 28:41which is how hard you smack a bitch.
- 28:44Stuff like that.
- 28:45So you can actually watch,
- 28:46there's a great documentary called American Pimp,
- 28:49uh,
- 28:49made by the Hughes brothers who did like Book of Eli and Menace to Society.
- 28:53And you can see.
- 28:55at the Players' Bowl with Don Magic Wand,
- 28:57one of his good friends who is like the pimp of all pimps,
- 29:01real pimp,
- 29:02not like,
- 29:02oh,
- 29:03that guy,
- 29:03that guy,
- 29:04a character.
- 29:04No,
- 29:05not he was really doing these things.
- 29:06This is a guy who pimps out women for money
- 29:09and everybody's fine with it.
- 29:11Yeah,
- 29:11that's a strange part of our culture.
- 29:13I,
- 29:13I will say.
- 29:14Yeah,
- 29:14it shouldn't really be a respected profession.
- 29:16Not only respected,
- 29:17it's a,
- 29:17it's a res,
- 29:18it's uh,
- 29:19it's a word that I think is a compliment.
- 29:22You're like,
- 29:23man,
- 29:23that's I like your car,
- 29:24it's pimp.
- 29:25And you're like,
- 29:25thank you.
- 29:25Thank you.
- 29:26It does.
- 29:26It traffics women and hits them
- 29:28in a Toyota Corolla.
- 29:32Uh,
- 29:32I remember I find there's something fascinating that I think we do in culture,
- 29:36and we just like certain people are just,
- 29:39they can just get away with it.
- 29:40You know,
- 29:41Mike Tyson is my go to example on this.
- 29:43The man was not accused,
- 29:45but
- 29:45convicted of rape.
- 29:47And he's like on every show.
- 29:49He's just like normal part,
- 29:50we're totally welcomed him back into.
- 29:52Uh,
- 29:53Snoop has not gone that far by any means,
- 29:55but
- 29:56I do remember a period.
- 29:57I don't know.
- 29:58Well,
- 29:59go on,
- 29:59sorry.
- 29:59You know what,
- 29:59that's,
- 30:00I don't murder was the case.
- 30:02He was on a murder trial.
- 30:03Yes,
- 30:03he was in a murder trial.
- 30:04Um,
- 30:04he also was
- 30:07in porns.
- 30:08Like he was literally like,
- 30:10I don't know,
- 30:10hosting them.
- 30:11Or something.
- 30:11He was like,
- 30:12I remember him advertising,
- 30:13it was like a big story at the time.
- 30:14It was Girls Gone
- 30:15Wild and he was forcing women to do stuff to
- 30:17each other on a bed who were like probably underage.
- 30:20Correct.
- 30:21Well,
- 30:21that's and we're all like,
- 30:22come on in.
- 30:24Well,
- 30:24that's why the,
- 30:25the founder went to prison.
- 30:26Yeah,
- 30:27the founder went to prison and he was in these movies.
- 30:31And we're like,
- 30:32hey,
- 30:32now he's like the conservative
- 30:34grandpa
- 30:36where he's like there's just too much here,
- 30:38too,
- 30:38too much conversation about.
- 30:39Can you imagine
- 30:40being Snoop Dogg where you've like,
- 30:42you've just attended so many drive-by shootings,
- 30:45you're,
- 30:46you've you've basically.
- 30:47You've tried to be a gangster when you weren't.
- 30:49You've,
- 30:50you've created gangster rap with,
- 30:52I mean,
- 30:52you,
- 30:52you subpar,
- 30:54but I mean,
- 30:54he was still,
- 30:55I,
- 30:55I love,
- 30:56I love Snoop,
- 30:56don't get me wrong,
- 30:57but I mean it was already there with NWA,
- 30:59but he came along in central part of the story,
- 31:02exactly.
- 31:02So it's like you have a guy who created an entire image that brought forth,
- 31:07uh,
- 31:07how can I put it,
- 31:08uh,
- 31:09the.
- 31:11Sexualization,
- 31:13there you go,
- 31:13those women on each other.
- 31:15That was really good.
- 31:16Thank you.
- 31:16I really tried.
- 31:17You really did,
- 31:18and it took a while.
- 31:19You got,
- 31:19it was like a four syllable word that seemed like it was 8,
- 31:22right?
- 31:23Yeah,
- 31:23but if people go,
- 31:24look,
- 31:24this movie's for kids,
- 31:25I get that.
- 31:26But at the same time,
- 31:28uh.
- 31:29Doggy Style came out when I was 11.
- 31:30I think Snoop was 12,
- 31:32you know,
- 31:33so it's like it's been around and I went to the store
- 31:36and bought Doggy Style.
- 31:38I was just like,
- 31:38here,
- 31:38they didn't look at the parental advisory.
- 31:40Nobody gave a crap what Tipper Gore
- 31:43thought until they started actually enforcing it.
- 31:45And so I was able to get the album,
- 31:47I think.
- 31:48I mean you don't need it in there obviously the same as you don't need,
- 31:52I don't need a husband and wife kissing in it or anything,
- 31:54but
- 31:55I just find it weird that you're gonna take that person
- 31:59and be like,
- 32:00OK,
- 32:00so you were,
- 32:01were you really,
- 32:01how could you be offended?
- 32:03It's true.
- 32:03I just feel like there's,
- 32:05there's a time and place,
- 32:06right,
- 32:07for,
- 32:07for,
- 32:08for pimping,
- 32:08uh,
- 32:09as they say,
- 32:09and.
- 32:10Sometimes it's not a Toy Story sequel,
- 32:12right?
- 32:13Like I just feel like I want some separation with my kids to be
- 32:15able to go in and watch a movie and not have to think about
- 32:18life's biggest questions.
- 32:19Can I get that?
- 32:20Which I totally understand.
- 32:22I just would imagine though,
- 32:23if you heard the words Papa Snoop,
- 32:26well,
- 32:26I don't know why that would be the first time this ever came up.
- 32:29Probably true,
- 32:30probably true.
- 32:30Uh,
- 32:31yes,
- 32:31OK,
- 32:31that's a good point.
- 32:32That's a good point.
- 32:32I have more with,
- 32:33uh,
- 32:33Dave Landau coming up here in just a second.
- 32:43I
- 32:44love this.
- 32:45OK,
- 32:46people,
- 32:46the countdown is on to an all new season of The View,
- 32:50the most watched Emmy nominated number one daytime talk show.
- 32:54It's The View.
- 32:55Oh yes,
- 32:56the countdown is on.
- 32:57See you soon,
- 32:58America.
- 32:59New season,
- 32:59new View.
- 33:00Be there.
- 33:00Let's do this.
- 33:02The View.
- 33:04This is why you should always keep coming back to
- 33:06The View because you never know what's gonna happen.
- 33:08Oh,
- 33:09that's right,
- 33:10you never know what's gonna happen on The View.
- 33:12Monday,
- 33:12September 8th.
- 33:13Are you counting down the days to The View premiere?
- 33:15I gotta be honest,
- 33:15I didn't know that they were seasons.
- 33:17I thought it was just on every day,
- 33:19like just playing in hell on a loop.
- 33:22It's,
- 33:23I didn't know they were,
- 33:24did you?
- 33:24No,
- 33:24I,
- 33:25I,
- 33:25I almost wonder,
- 33:27and again,
- 33:28like I am not,
- 33:28I'm not a you,
- 33:30um,
- 33:30uh,
- 33:30a regular viewer of this particular program,
- 33:33but like I almost feel like they just created it so they didn't have to do it with the,
- 33:36like they were so sick of dealing with it on a day to day basis.
- 33:38They're like,
- 33:38now you're doing seasons.
- 33:40You guys are off for 4 months.
- 33:43I don't wanna talk.
- 33:44Yeah,
- 33:44we don't wanna hear it.
- 33:45We can play the reruns.
- 33:46Nobody will know that it's not today.
- 33:47Nobody will say the same thing over and over again,
- 33:50the same yapping every single day.
- 33:52Nobody's like,
- 33:53you know,
- 33:53I really love season one and two of The View,
- 33:55but they really lost me around season 11.
- 33:59Never happened.
- 34:00Nobody,
- 34:01no,
- 34:01I,
- 34:02I,
- 34:02I.
- 34:03I give them some credit for staying on the air all this time.
- 34:05I don't know how.
- 34:06I mean,
- 34:07it's been terrible since it started.
- 34:08Oh yeah,
- 34:09it's only getting worse.
- 34:10I mean,
- 34:10the only draw that you could really have if people were
- 34:13being fair would be Whoopi Goldberg because of her movie stardom.
- 34:16I mean,
- 34:17at,
- 34:17at some point in history that was accurate.
- 34:20Now,
- 34:21I mean,
- 34:21Ghost,
- 34:22Sister Act,
- 34:22Jumping Jack Flash.
- 34:24Yeah,
- 34:24what's that,
- 34:241988?
- 34:25Yeah.
- 34:26I mean this is Rex.
- 34:29It's one of your faves.
- 34:30We learned,
- 34:30we learned about Theodore Rex.
- 34:31The finest movies ever.
- 34:32I know.
- 34:33Maybe I,
- 34:34maybe that's why she needed the time off.
- 34:35She was doing a sequel.
- 34:36Exactly.
- 34:37Is it possible?
- 34:37There could be a Theodore Rex too in the making.
- 34:39Oh wow.
- 34:40She's got,
- 34:40she's got the hair back.
- 34:42Yeah,
- 34:42she does.
- 34:43I,
- 34:43I will say,
- 34:44um,
- 34:44I'm not gonna be tuning in.
- 34:45That was,
- 34:45that's not,
- 34:46I mean,
- 34:46I can't think of anything I,
- 34:48I would like to do less than,
- 34:49than tune into the season premiere.
- 34:50Oh,
- 34:50I'd rather listen to a loved one's death rattle.
- 34:54Watch two seconds of that.
- 34:56It's the,
- 34:57it's unwatchable.
- 34:58I hate when they play it in car dealerships.
- 35:00Do you ever go there or like when you're at a mechanic
- 35:02and it's like,
- 35:03are you doing this just in case a woman drops her car off because
- 35:06it's messing with my head and there's like no remote around.
- 35:09It's like,
- 35:10you want me to leave,
- 35:10so I don't know what you're really doing to my car.
- 35:13Yeah,
- 35:13it does feel,
- 35:14yeah,
- 35:14that maybe they're trying to chase you out.
- 35:15Yeah,
- 35:16it's the only,
- 35:16where else is it on?
- 35:17That and like the dentist.
- 35:19I know no one who's ever watched it.
- 35:21Like it's not something that people
- 35:23enjoy,
- 35:24but it's still on.
- 35:25There's gotta be somebody watching it.
- 35:26Nobody's ever said like,
- 35:27who are your comedic influences?
- 35:28And they're like,
- 35:29oh,
- 35:29Joy Behar.
- 35:30Oh my God.
- 35:31No one has ever said that to anyone.
- 35:33No one has ever said it.
- 35:34No,
- 35:34no.
- 35:35Um,
- 35:35uh,
- 35:36let me give you,
- 35:37this might also irritate you.
- 35:38I don't know.
- 35:39Uh,
- 35:39Taylor Swift,
- 35:40Travis Kelsey.
- 35:42Getting engaged,
- 35:43yes,
- 35:44they've decided,
- 35:45yay,
- 35:46they've made the announcement
- 35:47and like,
- 35:49you know,
- 35:49I was just telling you how.
- 35:51I often have these situations where I'm like,
- 35:53you know,
- 35:53I'm,
- 35:53I don't know,
- 35:53I feel like almost like too skeptical about everything.
- 35:56Like I'm just like,
- 35:57oh everything annoys me,
- 35:58and I kind of come that way with the Travis Kelsey.
- 36:00Like,
- 36:01why do I hate them?
- 36:02Why am I annoyed by it?
- 36:03They,
- 36:03they're in love,
- 36:04it's,
- 36:04it's nice.
- 36:05I should,
- 36:05I should be happy for them,
- 36:06and then that should be the end of it.
- 36:07I think it's,
- 36:08it's not even their fault.
- 36:09They're just jammed down everybody's throat by the public and publicists.
- 36:13That's the problem.
- 36:14I don't think they like it.
- 36:17She might like it.
- 36:17They do like the attention.
- 36:18I mean,
- 36:19yeah,
- 36:19well,
- 36:19I feel like he was,
- 36:20you know,
- 36:21an excellent athlete,
- 36:22and she,
- 36:24you know,
- 36:24sold her soul to Satan,
- 36:26possibly.
- 36:27I don't know how you get that far in the music business
- 36:30and so long.
- 36:31I mean,
- 36:31like
- 36:31to the point where you're having like.
- 36:33You know,
- 36:34kids,
- 36:35kids who grow up and have kids who grow up and have kids,
- 36:37and they all three generations are going to the concerts together and it's,
- 36:40it's brilliant,
- 36:41it's legitimately impressive as a,
- 36:43as an uninterested observer business wise.
- 36:45Like it's incredible.
- 36:46It's like a different level too.
- 36:48It's arenas upon arena I've never seen.
- 36:51Anybody's so famous.
- 36:53And she dresses like a figure skater and every song is about a breakup.
- 36:56Yes,
- 36:57which again,
- 36:57I don't think she's had that many breakups.
- 36:59She just,
- 36:59she couldn't possibly by the,
- 37:00she wasn't she famous at like 16?
- 37:03Yeah,
- 37:03she was really,
- 37:03yeah.
- 37:04She came,
- 37:04she came up in,
- 37:05uh,
- 37:05in Pennsylvania.
- 37:06So I was living in Philly at the time and like she was like,
- 37:09you know,
- 37:09doing,
- 37:09you know,
- 37:10uh,
- 37:10like little customizations for the radio stations in Philly,
- 37:13like trying to come up and she's like a,
- 37:14you know,
- 37:15a little kid.
- 37:15Yeah,
- 37:16so she's never really experienced heartbreak
- 37:19ever.
- 37:20I don't know.
- 37:21I mean,
- 37:21I'm not saying she doesn't have feelings,
- 37:23but I mean,
- 37:24probably not like you and I do.
- 37:25Oh really?
- 37:26Do you think it's just a totally different like what a serial killer would have.
- 37:29OK,
- 37:30that makes it much somebody who will crush anyone to get what they want.
- 37:33Yeah,
- 37:33I,
- 37:34I will,
- 37:34I will say the way they've rolled out the.
- 37:36You know,
- 37:37they roll out the,
- 37:38uh,
- 37:38the new album
- 37:39on his podcast,
- 37:41right?
- 37:41I didn't even know that.
- 37:42Then they make the,
- 37:43uh,
- 37:43the news a deep dive,
- 37:44Stu.
- 37:45Well,
- 37:46my daughter's quite the Swifty,
- 37:47I will say.
- 37:48But that was,
- 37:48I,
- 37:48anyway,
- 37:49Dave,
- 37:49it did make some news.
- 37:50This was not,
- 37:51it had like 40 million views in a day.
- 37:53A second generation Swifty.
- 37:55Uh,
- 37:56I mean,
- 37:56I think
- 37:57her mom would go to the shows.
- 37:58There's no doubt.
- 37:59I was talking about you.
- 38:00OK,
- 38:00no,
- 38:01I'd rather,
- 38:01can we move on to one more story before we've been forced to a show by your daughter?
- 38:04Yeah,
- 38:05I have not.
- 38:06OK.
- 38:06Uh,
- 38:07and honestly they're so expensive.
- 38:08I'm going to find a way to make sure she doesn't.
- 38:10I would not go in there.
- 38:12No,
- 38:13no,
- 38:13I feel like everybody's periods would sink.
- 38:15I don't know,
- 38:15it'd just be a whole mess.
- 38:17I will say it should be one man in the place,
- 38:20the target.
- 38:21I feel like if you walked into a Taylor Swift concert,
- 38:23security would be alerted.
- 38:24I,
- 38:25I just feel like,
- 38:25I think they'd be like,
- 38:26who's like,
- 38:27wait a minute,
- 38:28just stay with that guy a guy here.
- 38:29Like,
- 38:30clearly he's just here to grab,
- 38:33grab people.
- 38:33There's no reason to be,
- 38:34yeah,
- 38:34because you're gonna be either gay or there to do something terrible.
- 38:38If there's a straight guy there,
- 38:39you're just there to be a pervert.
- 38:41There's no other reason you're showing.
- 38:43You're not showing up for the music.
- 38:46Well,
- 38:46you could be just a huge fan of Trouble,
- 38:48possible.
- 38:48Well,
- 38:49one song.
- 38:49I really do.
- 38:50You're just waiting for the happy song.
- 38:52Sorry,
- 38:52I know you gotta move on,
- 38:54but Trouble's fantastic,
- 38:55by the way.
- 38:55I stand by it.

- 41:12Judge has ruled that Utah's congressional map
- 41:15must be redrawn for the 2026 election,
- 41:17which is coming up really fast.
- 41:18Now.
- 41:18I don't know why it took so long because they passed this thing in 2021,
- 41:21but now we're here in 2025.
- 41:23They have to get this fixed.
- 41:25One of the,
- 41:25basically what they're complaining about on the left
- 41:27is they have rules there that it can't be a partisan,
- 41:30uh realignment.
- 41:31What the districts do is basically
- 41:33cut up the big Democratic stronghold in Salt Lake and divide it up to the other 4,
- 41:38uh,
- 41:38to 4 different regions,
- 41:39all of which wind up voting Republican.
- 41:42That's,
- 41:42I'm sure,
- 41:43not a coincidence.
- 41:44That being said,
- 41:45I'm glad that it's that way.
- 41:47We'll see what happens with the new map.
- 41:48You might wind up having one seat there
- 41:50that does go to a Democrat.
- 41:51We will see how that plays out.
- 41:54And of course California is in the middle of their redistricting nonsense,
- 41:57this sort of
- 41:58half-hearted response to Texas,
- 42:01even though
- 42:02California has blatantly already done a lot
- 42:05of redistricting and a lot of gerrymandering.
- 42:08Um,
- 42:09and Gavin Newsom,
- 42:10of course,
- 42:10the governor there,
- 42:11is still trying to get attention for himself.
- 42:12He's really excited about,
- 42:14uh,
- 42:14himself,
- 42:15uh,
- 42:15really thrilled.
- 42:16I mean,
- 42:17there's nobody who loves Gavin Newsom quite like Gavin Newsom does.
- 42:20Um,
- 42:21and also there's no one who really loves Gavin Newsom.
- 42:23Uh,
- 42:23but anyway,
- 42:24well,
- 42:24I guess his best friend's wife at one point.
- 42:26Uh,
- 42:27that was a situation.
- 42:28Anyway,
- 42:28uh,
- 42:28Newsom trolling Trump
- 42:29with online patriotho because he's got a shtick
- 42:32now and he's sticking to that shtick.
- 42:34What a funny guy.
- 42:35The Patriot Shop is now open.
- 42:37I'm Gavin Newsom and I'm a comedian now.
- 42:40Wait until next week where I'm super serious.
- 42:43I'll be hosting,
- 42:43uh,
- 42:44uh,
- 42:44first I'll do a comedy show at Knick Knacks,
- 42:46and then I'll be over at the Holocaust Museum with very serious commentary
- 42:50on the Jewish,
- 42:51uh,
- 42:51the Final Solution.
- 42:52Uh,
- 42:53so that's all coming up from Gavin Newsom,
- 42:54uh,
- 42:54just,
- 42:55uh,
- 42:55flailing around.
- 42:56But again,
- 42:56flailing around to the point where the only goal here,
- 42:59remember,
- 42:59not to please you,
- 43:00not to please sane people,
- 43:01to please hardcore leftists so he can win a presidential nomination.
- 43:05So he'll switch 3 or 4 more times to try to win the election.
- 43:08That's a totally different Gavin.
- 43:09You'll get to know him in a year or so.
- 43:11Anyway,
- 43:11uh,
- 43:12get to,
