- Lucas: Ciao, Luna! Ready for another episode of Learn Italian with Fexingo? Luna: Ciao, Lucas! Absolutely. I've been practicing the park vocabulary from last time. Now I want to actually navigate the park without getting lost. Lucas: That's perfect, because today we're learning how to ask for and give directions in Italian. Super useful for any trip to Italy. Luna: Oh, I love that. Okay, let's start. What's the first phrase I need? Lucas: First up: 'Scusi, dov'è il bagno?' — that means 'Excuse me, where is the bathroom?' Say it with me: Scusi, dov'è il bagno? Luna: Scusi, dov'è il bagno? Lucas: Perfect. 'Scusi' is a polite way to get someone's attention. Now, imagine you're at a park and you really need to find the restroom. Luna: Yeah, that's a life-saving phrase. Let me try it again: Scusi, dov'è il bagno? Lucas: Exactly. Now, someone might respond with directions. Let's learn a few. 'Gira a destra' — turn right. Luna: Gira a destra. Lucas: And 'Gira a sinistra' — turn left. Luna: Gira a sinistra. That sounds like 'left' in English, but it's a bit different. Lucas: Yes, 'sinistra' is left. And then 'Sempre dritto' — straight ahead. Luna: Sempre dritto. That one's easy to remember. Lucas: Great! And finally, 'Alla fine della strada' — at the end of the street. Luna: Alla fine della strada. That's a mouthful, but I'll practice. Lucas: Let's put it together. Imagine you ask: Scusi, dov'è il bagno? And someone says: Gira a destra, sempre dritto, alla fine della strada. Luna: Okay, so that's: turn right, go straight, and it's at the end of the street. Got it. Lucas: Now you try giving me directions. I'll ask: Scusi, dov'è l'uscita? Where is the exit? Luna: Umm... Gira a sinistra, sempre dritto, alla fine della strada. Lucas: That works! Perfect. You just gave directions in Italian. Luna: Wow, that feels good. I can totally see myself using this in a real park in Italy. Lucas: And speaking of real parks, let's do a quick scene. Luna, you're at a park in Rome and you need the bathroom. Ask me. Luna: Scusi, dov'è il bagno? Lucas: Gira a destra, sempre dritto, e alla fine della strada. Luna: Grazie! That was smooth. Lucas: Now, you know what? If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Italian, and today's phrases felt useful, honestly, if it was worth a coffee to you, that's the link: buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, totally. It helps us keep making these episodes ad-free. Lucas: Alright, back to directions. Let's practice one more time: Scusi, dov'è il bagno? Luna: Scusi, dov'è il bagno? Lucas: And the response: Gira a sinistra, sempre dritto. Luna: Gira a sinistra, sempre dritto. I think I've got it. Lucas: Awesome. Practice these with a friend, and next time you're in Italy, you'll never be lost. Ciao for now, Luna! Luna: Ciao, Lucas! And ciao to all our listeners. See you next time!
