- 0:52Speaker 1: with us, and Peyton, I want to thank you and
- 0:54Speaker 1: Chip Maxwell the Chipster, for filling in on Thursday and Monday.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Chip always does a great job. I told you this before,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but he has a great radio voice, doesn't he.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Chip is so awesome. Yes, he is very informed and
- 1:06Speaker 2: his bumper music is always really nice too.
- 1:09Speaker 1: He's a he's a good guy. In one of these days,
- 1:11Speaker 1: we're going to talk about Chip's family because his mother,
- 1:13Speaker 1: Mary Maxwell, was a very well known comedian in Omaha
- 1:18Speaker 1: and just a great, great person. But I'm back. So
- 1:22Speaker 1: I was on just a little fourth of July vacation
- 1:25Speaker 1: Thursday through Monday. I was back last night, but we
- 1:28Speaker 1: drove and I spent a lot of time in Illinois,
- 1:31Speaker 1: in Ault, Illinois where I was born, in Ault Illinois
- 1:35Speaker 1: at Saint Joseph's Hospital, but my brother was Gary was
- 1:38Speaker 1: here from Minnesota and his family, and then I got
- 1:42Speaker 1: to be with my sister and her family, and then
- 1:44Speaker 1: my husband's family is in my real home of Saint Louis.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So we got to say, you know what, We're going
- 1:51Speaker 1: to just start going with it. Okay, since everybody insists
- 1:55Speaker 1: that I live in Saint Louis, We're just going to
- 1:57Speaker 1: go with it from now on and say, yep, I
- 1:59Speaker 1: live there. In fact, I leave really early every morning
- 2:02Speaker 1: to get here by ten, and then as soon as
- 2:05Speaker 1: the show's over, I drive back.
- 2:06Speaker 2: That's why you're only on the radio for an hour,
- 2:08Speaker 2: so you have time to get back and forth each day.
- 2:10Speaker 1: That six hour drive each way, does it. But you
- 2:12Speaker 1: know what, we're going to go with it from now on,
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm going to say it's my home in Saint Louis.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But speaking of being in Saint Louis, which I was,
- 2:19Speaker 1: folks and all of you who have been in Saint
- 2:22Speaker 1: Louis or go there to watch the Cardinals or whatever.
- 2:25Speaker 1: They are known for, Emo's pizza, ted Drew's ice cream,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and of course the world famous toasted ravioli, and I
- 2:32Speaker 1: had all three of them while I was there, so
- 2:35Speaker 1: that made my trip right there. Scott Vorhees asked me
- 2:38Speaker 1: a minute ago, what was your favorite part of the trip,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and I said, eating that is about it. So it
- 2:43Speaker 1: was fun. We had a good time.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Is it toasted ravioli any different than a fried ravioli
- 2:47Speaker 2: or is it just the name of it?
- 2:49Speaker 1: I think no. I think it's different and it's crunchier
- 2:52Speaker 1: and it's delicious. It's but ted Drew's is the one
- 2:56Speaker 1: that everybody goes there for, and it's ice cream. It's
- 3:00Speaker 1: only in Saint Louis. Man, if I could open up
- 3:02Speaker 1: a ted Drews in Omaha, I could retire, We could retire,
- 3:06Speaker 1: we could all retire. You can do whatever you.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Want in Omaha.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Je.
- 3:09Speaker 2: No, I don't something going.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Drews doesn't want to come here. But we had such
- 3:14Speaker 1: a good time, so I hope everybody here had a
- 3:16Speaker 1: good time too and enjoyed the holiday. We're gonna we
- 3:20Speaker 1: have a lot to talk about today, but we're not
- 3:23Speaker 1: gonna talk about Taylor Swift's wedding. Okay, that's okay with me. Yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 1: I'm not a swifty are you?
- 3:29Speaker 2: My fiance is a swifty and my association I'm a swifty.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So, and for all of you who have never been
- 3:34Speaker 1: in this studio, there's an unusual amount of Taylor Swift
- 3:38Speaker 1: pictures on the wall.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Yeah, there's quite a few. When I walked in here,
- 3:43Speaker 5: I'm like, what's going on here? There's swifty pictures everywhere.
- 3:47Speaker 5: We're gonna leave this to Chris Baker. He maybe he's
- 3:49Speaker 5: a swiftye. Maybe he can talk about Chris or talk
- 3:53Speaker 5: about Taylor's wedding. Yeah, he could talk about Chris a lot,
- 3:56Speaker 5: but he's going to talk about Taylor's wedding.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 3:58Speaker 1: No, I'm not that interesting in that.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Can I tease you with one thing real quick. Somebody
- 4:02Speaker 2: said Rich and Charlie's.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where I believe Rich and Charlie's. I believe
- 4:08Speaker 1: that's where the toasted Dravioli was first. I don't know
- 4:12Speaker 1: if you want to call it invented but famous in
- 4:14Speaker 1: Saint Louis. But they made it famous in Saint Louis.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And you know there is still some Rich and Charlie's
- 4:20Speaker 1: in Saint Louis. So yeah, it's great, very interesting. Although
- 4:23Speaker 1: I've got to tell you this. I drove through North
- 4:28Speaker 1: Saint Louis and North Saint Louis. I used to live
- 4:31Speaker 1: there in an area called Florescent, which is right next
- 4:33Speaker 1: to Ferguson. But boy, oh boy, there are areas of
- 4:37Speaker 1: Saint Louis that are really really run down right now.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I said, it's it's disappointing to see boarded up buildings vacated,
- 4:45Speaker 1: you know, old shopping malls and strip malls and things
- 4:48Speaker 1: like that. It's it's not looking good in certain areas
- 4:50Speaker 1: of Saint Louis. But anyway, it's going to be my
- 4:53Speaker 1: home from now on since people insist I live there.
- 4:56Speaker 1: But I want to bring up first of all, I
- 4:58Speaker 1: got to bring up and have you talk a little
- 5:01Speaker 1: bit about soccer. You know, I was talking to you
- 5:04Speaker 1: while I was in Saint Louis. I think we were
- 5:06Speaker 1: both watching the game on Sunday night, which was one
- 5:09Speaker 1: of the most amazing soccer games I think I've ever seen.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I mean, it was excellent, beyond excellent. And then what
- 5:16Speaker 1: the heck happened to the USA last night? I don't
- 5:19Speaker 1: like cow It was hard to watch.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I don't know, Gene, it was really disappointing. You know,
- 5:23Speaker 2: you get so excited. I was juiced up ready to
- 5:26Speaker 2: watch the game, and I was just immediately let down,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and it's like it's like watching the corn Huskers play
- 5:33Speaker 2: and they just you want them to win so bad,
- 5:36Speaker 2: so bad, but everything that happens on the field during
- 5:40Speaker 2: the game is going against them, and I was so disappointed.
- 5:43Speaker 1: S's a disappointment. And mistakes the goalkeeper, some mistakes were
- 5:48Speaker 1: just I mean it made you cringe to walk them
- 5:50Speaker 1: watch them. So USA one, Belgium four. That's the USA's done.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and Belgium's good? Are they that much better than US?
- 6:00Speaker 2: United States just shot themselves in the foot. It was
- 6:03Speaker 2: it was very disappointing, and especially with all of that
- 6:06Speaker 2: red car drama in the news. Yes, that filled the
- 6:08Speaker 2: headlines yesterday. To then have that happen exactly, No, man,
- 6:12Speaker 2: it was not It was not good. And of course
- 6:14Speaker 2: they're still talking about it, and they'll be talking about
- 6:16Speaker 2: it from now on.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You know what I did. My my grandkids play soccer,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and so I went online to buy one of those
- 6:27Speaker 1: cool soccer balls, the the World Cup ball, and they
- 6:31Speaker 1: had one called training balls, which I don't know the difference.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I don't know if their kids they could use a
- 6:36Speaker 1: training ball, but they But yesterday the official at Dick's
- 6:41Speaker 1: Sporting Goods USA, our World Cup soccer ball was one
- 6:45Speaker 1: hundred and thirty dollars. I looked again today and it
- 6:47Speaker 1: was one hundred and seventy. Wow, the same ball at Dick's.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah. And when you're taking one hundred and thirty, one
- 6:54Speaker 2: hundred and seventy dollars for a soccer.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Soccer ball, but it's pretty cool, I guess, Yes, a
- 7:00Speaker 1: lifetime chance to get it. So that's what you might
- 7:03Speaker 1: get for a wedding press.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Oh and I would love it.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I bet you would.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I would love it.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Okay, while we're here, just and we'll get off the
- 7:11Speaker 1: subject of soccer but it's I'm going to ask your
- 7:14Speaker 1: opinion on two things. Number one, one thing that is
- 7:17Speaker 1: really hard to understand, and I've been with my son
- 7:20Speaker 1: playing soccer from kindergarten through college. Off sides. Explain it
- 7:24Speaker 1: in thirty seconds. It's when they say you're off sides.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Explain what that means. It's hard to sit there and
- 7:31Speaker 1: watch it and go, oh, yeah, that was off side.
- 7:33Speaker 2: It's really difficult to explain. The goalie is the first defender,
- 7:36Speaker 2: he's the farthest one back, and then the next defender
- 7:40Speaker 2: on the field. He's wearing the same jerseys as everybody else.
- 7:43Speaker 2: You can't just run past them and get the ball.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You have to be in line with them when the
- 7:48Speaker 2: ball is kicked. It's kind of tricky. It's similar to
- 7:52Speaker 2: icing in hockey. If anybody can connect the dots there.
- 7:56Speaker 2: It's a very very difficult rule. And the biggest use
- 8:00Speaker 2: of the video assistance in soccer is on off side sides.
- 8:06Speaker 1: It's so hard, I agree, and when they call it,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I sit there and think, hmm, what just happened here?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Excuse me? Cough button again. So the other thing I
- 8:17Speaker 1: want to ask just your opinion of is do you
- 8:20Speaker 1: think it is I mean, it's standard, but is it
- 8:23Speaker 1: fair to win a game on a penalty kick? That
- 8:27Speaker 1: always drove me crazy. Of course, my son was a goalkeeper,
- 8:31Speaker 1: so it even drove me more crazy. But boy, to
- 8:34Speaker 1: win the entire game could be based on a penalty kick.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Are you talking about the shootouts at the end of
- 8:40Speaker 2: the game. Yes, I think that after playing a game
- 8:44Speaker 2: for two hours and you can't come to find a winner,
- 8:49Speaker 2: going to penalty kicks is the best solution to find
- 8:52Speaker 2: a winner. Okay, but but the thing about a penalty
- 8:57Speaker 2: shootout is you can go find a high school, so
- 9:00Speaker 2: Her team here in Omaha, Omaha, South, Creighton Prep, you
- 9:03Speaker 2: name it, and they could line up against the United
- 9:05Speaker 2: States men's soccer team and they could do a penalty
- 9:08Speaker 2: shootout and both sides could win. It doesn't matter. Yeah,
- 9:12Speaker 2: it doesn't matter.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's all it's so risky to do it
- 9:16Speaker 1: that way.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But it's really a test of composure. Can you deal
- 9:21Speaker 2: with the pressure? Can you be composed? It's kind of
- 9:24Speaker 2: like a game winning field goal. Oh, you got a
- 9:26Speaker 2: forty five yard field goal. You make it every single
- 9:28Speaker 2: day in practice, but the pressure's on, and then when
- 9:32Speaker 2: you look at a goal, a soccer goal. I mean
- 9:34Speaker 2: you could goodness, you could drive a mac truck in
- 9:38Speaker 2: But like, you know, your son is a really tall kid. Yeah,
- 9:41Speaker 2: what six' five is almost six to, six so it's
- 9:44Speaker 2: almost sixty. Six and when he's standing in the goal
- 9:46Speaker 2: stretching his arms in a big, wingspan that is pretty.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Tough it looks real.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Small, Yeah and he actually lost a state champion on
- 9:56Speaker 1: a shootout. One and then you're just, like, oh good.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Lord But i'll keep on. Watch AND i think today
- 10:02Speaker 1: we've Got we've Got argentina In egypt at, eleven and
- 10:06Speaker 1: then we Have switzerland And columbia at, three so it
- 10:10Speaker 1: will continue. On And mexico's out, Too so that's what's
- 10:14Speaker 1: going on with The World. Cup, now you know WHAT
- 10:17Speaker 1: i really want to get to. Today and THEN i
- 10:20Speaker 1: want to talk about parks In omaha, too BECAUSE i
- 10:23Speaker 1: read this article in The World herald that made my
- 10:25Speaker 1: blood pressure go up about. Parks but let's get to
- 10:28Speaker 1: the fourth Of. July ON i get The Omaha World herald,
- 10:34Speaker 1: online the online edition as well as the paper. Copy
- 10:39Speaker 1: and we all know On monday they don't come out
- 10:42Speaker 1: with a paper copy, anymore and on holidays they don't have,
- 10:46Speaker 1: one so they did not have a paper copy of
- 10:49Speaker 1: The World herald on the fourth Of. July but WHEN
- 10:54Speaker 1: i got my online, edition which comes out at about five,
- 10:58Speaker 1: am the headline and The Omaha World herald was funeral
- 11:03Speaker 1: begins for Slain Iran Supreme leader and a big picture
- 11:08Speaker 1: Of iranians wailing and crying about this funeral for the slain.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Leader that was on the online, edition the e. Edition
- 11:18Speaker 1: that was the headline on the fourth Of, july AND
- 11:24Speaker 1: i was fuming as well as many other people In
- 11:30Speaker 1: omaha were. FUMING i, thought how in the world could this?
- 11:36Speaker 1: Happen could this be our? Headline when it, WAS i,
- 11:39Speaker 1: thought this is the biggest. Miss The World herald is
- 11:43Speaker 1: made on one of the if not the most important
- 11:46Speaker 1: anniversary of our, lifetimes the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary
- 11:50Speaker 1: of our, independence and that was the. HEADLINE i want
- 11:55Speaker 1: to hear what you have to say about, that all
- 11:57Speaker 1: of you, today because people would write. ME i put
- 12:02Speaker 1: it on My facebook and people would write me and, say,
- 12:05Speaker 1: well my online edition didn't say. That So i'm going
- 12:09Speaker 1: to tell you exactly what happened IS i did Call
- 12:12Speaker 1: Aaron sanderford and we All we've talked About aaron. Before
- 12:16Speaker 1: aaron was with The World herald was a really really
- 12:19Speaker 1: good reporter covered. Politics then he went to The, Examiner Nebraska,
- 12:26Speaker 1: examiner where he was editor in. Chief now he is
- 12:29Speaker 1: coming back to the Old Omaha World herald as the managing.
- 12:33Speaker 1: EDITOR i Like aaron a, lot BUT i talked to
- 12:35Speaker 1: him about it on the fourth AND i, said what
- 12:39Speaker 1: in the world is going through you guys to do
- 12:43Speaker 1: this on the fourth Of july to make this our
- 12:45Speaker 1: headline in Our Omaha World, herald our local. Newspaper the
- 12:49Speaker 1: way he explained it to me was That Lee, enterprises
- 12:53Speaker 1: which owns The Omaha World herald and many other newspapers
- 12:57Speaker 1: including The Saint Louis Post, dispatch they did the headline
- 13:02Speaker 1: and the front page story on the fourth Of, july
- 13:05Speaker 1: and this was their. Choice and he explained that this
- 13:09Speaker 1: was the headline and the front page ON i guess,
- 13:13Speaker 1: ALL i assume all Of Lee enterprise owned newspapers on
- 13:18Speaker 1: the fourth Of. July that's what he explained to. Me
- 13:22Speaker 1: now here's my. Opinion he, said when he saw, it
- 13:27Speaker 1: it was out of their. Control but here's my. Opinion
- 13:30Speaker 1: The Omaha World, herald if it is our local newspaper
- 13:33Speaker 1: or The Saint Louis Post dispatch In Saint louis or
- 13:35Speaker 1: whatever should have control over that headline and that front
- 13:39Speaker 1: page going. Out AND i, MEAN i know that they
- 13:43Speaker 1: started getting a lot of emails and a lot of
- 13:45Speaker 1: comments about. IT i think people were quite upset about,
- 13:48Speaker 1: it and then they changed. It so when people, say, oh,
- 13:53Speaker 1: well WHEN i looked at my online my, addition it
- 13:56Speaker 1: didn't say. That it said something about the two hundred and.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Fiftieth they changed it later on in the. Day the
- 14:03Speaker 1: local newspaper, did but that one did come out and
- 14:07Speaker 1: that was the, headline and that was the e edition
- 14:09Speaker 1: that first came out in the, morning and it wasn't
- 14:11Speaker 1: changed my, understanding until they got a lot of complaints about.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It so it is my, strong strong. Opinion i'd love
- 14:19Speaker 1: to hear your opinion, too that The Omaha World herald
- 14:23Speaker 1: should have control over what goes out for their front,
- 14:27Speaker 1: page whether they're owned By Lee enterprises or.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Not we want to hear from you four zero two
- 14:33Speaker 2: five five eight eleven, ten or you can send an
- 14:36Speaker 2: email to comment at kfab dot. Com, GENE i looked
- 14:40Speaker 2: at this online article in The World herald that front.
- 14:43Speaker 2: PAGE i had a tea time early morning On saturday
- 14:48Speaker 2: on the fourth Of, july AND i got. UP i
- 14:50Speaker 2: like to scroll through The World harold for a few
- 14:52Speaker 2: minutes to just kind of get a gauge of the.
- 14:54Speaker 2: News this was probably seven forty five THAT i glanced
- 14:58Speaker 2: at it for the first, time AND i was. STUNNED
- 15:01Speaker 2: i was, Too and LIKE i, said we want to
- 15:04Speaker 2: hear from, You Like jean, says we want to hear from.
- 15:06Speaker 2: You this is an opinion based. Show comments are always.
- 15:09Speaker 2: WELCOMED i just have it a hard time believing that
- 15:13Speaker 2: that was The pinnacle news story of the. Day and
- 15:17Speaker 2: you brought this up last, week Maybe, wednesday About Brinker
- 15:21Speaker 2: harding And Denise powell on the front page The World
- 15:24Speaker 2: herald right above.
- 15:25Speaker 1: The, break above the above the. Fold denise was above the,
- 15:29Speaker 1: Fold brinker was below the. Fold AND i brought up
- 15:32Speaker 1: THAT i think that they are becoming more and more left.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Leaning now we have heard and we have read that
- 15:39Speaker 1: The Omaha World, herald well not The Omaha World herald,
- 15:42Speaker 1: alone But Lee enterprises is being. Purchased and you, know
- 15:47Speaker 1: there was a story in The World herald about. It
- 15:49Speaker 1: there was a story in The Saint Louis Post dispatch about,
- 15:52Speaker 1: it and WHEN i read that and thought that they
- 15:55Speaker 1: are being purchased by by another, person that seems like
- 16:02Speaker 1: that their goal is to become a lot more central
- 16:07Speaker 1: are The Lee enterprises and all of their. Newspapers the
- 16:10Speaker 1: man's name Is David, hoffman and he said he is
- 16:13Speaker 1: investing in, newspapers including. Yours he is a, billionaire and he,
- 16:19Speaker 1: SAYS i believe in, newspapers AND i believe in this,
- 16:22Speaker 1: community AND i believe in this country and in the.
- 16:25Speaker 1: World and it's never been more. Important this billionaire has
- 16:29Speaker 1: got very very humble, beginnings and it's his. Story if
- 16:34Speaker 1: you haven't read, it it's very very. Interesting but one
- 16:37Speaker 1: could only hope That David, hoffman if he is Buying
- 16:41Speaker 1: Lee enterprises and controlling the newspaper and liking newspapers and
- 16:46Speaker 1: newspapers in, print that we never see this kind of headline.
- 16:51Speaker 1: AGAIN i just posted the headline in the front page
- 16:55Speaker 1: on My, facebook and you, know the comments immediately were
- 17:00Speaker 1: very very negative about the, coverage the local. Coverage just
- 17:07Speaker 1: one person said My sunrise edition was, different but that's
- 17:11Speaker 1: because they did change it after some. Time most of
- 17:14Speaker 1: the people say, shocked, disappointed, pathetic all sorts of negative
- 17:20Speaker 1: comments about this. Headline And i'd sure like to hear
- 17:24Speaker 1: what you all think about this, too BECAUSE i think
- 17:28Speaker 1: they they seem like they have become more and more.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Biased now is This Lee enterprises or is this The?
- 17:34Speaker 2: World?
- 17:34Speaker 1: Harold you know it's it's hard to. Tell Aaron, sanderford
- 17:39Speaker 1: you Know i've said this. BEFORE i Like aaron a.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Lot he is one of the most thorough REPORTERS i
- 17:46Speaker 1: ever worked with the whole TIME i was down At City.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Hall he will be The Omaha World. Herald he is
- 17:52Speaker 1: the managing. Editor Ben dooley is the executive editor of The, World.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Harold let him know how you, feel you, know don't
- 17:59Speaker 1: let me, know let them know how you. Feel you
- 18:02Speaker 1: can Email Ben dooley At ben Dot dooley AT owh
- 18:07Speaker 1: dot com And Aaron sanderford to let them know how
- 18:10Speaker 1: you feel about this and what you think should be
- 18:13Speaker 1: done about. This because this is something that bugged me
- 18:16Speaker 1: like crazy all of the fourth Of. July AND i
- 18:20Speaker 1: know it did you, Too, peyton because we talked about
- 18:23Speaker 1: it on the.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Fourth we're going to head to the phone lines now
- 18:26Speaker 2: four zero, two five to, five eight, eleven, Ten lyle joins.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Us you're on news radio eleven TEN kfab With Jean. Stouth, Welcome, Lyle,
- 18:36Speaker 2: hey how you guys doing good?
- 18:38Speaker 1: Good what's on your?
- 18:39Speaker 2: Mind?
- 18:40Speaker 4: Well my comment WAS i was an avid supporter Of
- 18:44Speaker 4: Omaha Old. HAROLD i put subscribing years ago. Already and
- 18:49Speaker 4: the problem, IS i think all the advertisers that are
- 18:53Speaker 4: are With World herald be able to stop advertiser and
- 18:57Speaker 4: all their monetary fund to come to an end.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Because of this, headline are because of just how they have.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Become, yes, well of the liberal tactics of The iranian. Headline, yes,
- 19:12Speaker 4: well then.
- 19:12Speaker 1: You agree with. Me you think that headline was pretty
- 19:16Speaker 1: pathetic for the fourth.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Of july negativists and then always should have been about
- 19:22Speaker 4: Our United states Of america being lovely and willing to live,
- 19:26Speaker 4: here rather than advertisement for a foreign.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Country absolutely couldn't agree with you. More thank you so
- 19:32Speaker 1: much for the.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Call thank, You, lyle AND i just did a quick
- 19:36Speaker 2: search Here gene for a little bit of context before
- 19:38Speaker 2: we had to. Break Lee enterprises major local newspaper. Company
- 19:43Speaker 2: they own more than seventy newspapers across twenty five. States
- 19:48Speaker 2: some of their largest and most widely circulated publications. Daily
- 19:53Speaker 2: these are publications they send out. Daily Saint Louis Post
- 19:56Speaker 2: dispatch That's, Missouri Omaha World, herald The Buffalo news That's New,
- 20:02Speaker 2: York Richmond Times dispatch In, Virginia Tulsa world In, oklahoma
- 20:08Speaker 2: and then Also Arizona Daily. Star those are some of
- 20:11Speaker 2: their biggest daily. Publications and it's in, yeah and those
- 20:14Speaker 2: are big. Newspapers they have a lot of.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Reading but the Caller lyle was absolutely correct though that
- 20:21Speaker 1: they depend on the supporters and they depend on their
- 20:25Speaker 1: sponsors and their advertisers to make it. Work and you,
- 20:29Speaker 1: know when they went, ONLINE i know The World herold
- 20:31Speaker 1: thought that they would get a lot more online, subscribers
- 20:35Speaker 1: AND i don't think they. Got they could correct me
- 20:37Speaker 1: If i'm, wrong BUT i don't think they got the
- 20:39Speaker 1: online subscribers that they were anticipating that they were going to.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Get and, so you, know it's going to be really.
- 20:48Speaker 1: INTERESTING i think it's very to, me it's very exciting
- 20:52Speaker 1: That David hoffman is investing in the local newspapers and
- 20:56Speaker 1: he believes so much in, newspapers but he believes in
- 20:59Speaker 1: factual porting to and, fairness AND i think that's what's
- 21:04Speaker 1: really really important. NOW i think that you, know WHEN
- 21:08Speaker 1: i was mayor AND i didn't agree with what The
- 21:11Speaker 1: World herald would put, OUT i would always have the
- 21:13Speaker 1: ability to contact them and to SAY i don't agree
- 21:17Speaker 1: with the, HEADLINE i don't agree with the. Story and you,
- 21:20Speaker 1: know even the, REPORTERS i would, say the headline is
- 21:22Speaker 1: what kills you half the, time and they, would you,
- 21:25Speaker 1: know the reporters that write the story don't write the.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Headline that usually the editor writes the, headline and they would, say,
- 21:31Speaker 1: well we didn't write the, headline And i'm, thinking, well
- 21:34Speaker 1: but the headline sometimes can kill you because a lot
- 21:37Speaker 1: of times people just skim and scan through the newspaper
- 21:41Speaker 1: and read the headlines and maybe just the first. Paragraph
- 21:44Speaker 1: and so the headlines are very. Important and SOMETIMES i
- 21:47Speaker 1: would find that a really important information would be in
- 21:50Speaker 1: the last paragraph of a big, article and a lot
- 21:53Speaker 1: of times people that don't even get down to that last. Paragraph,
- 21:56Speaker 1: so you, KNOW i hope that we see a huge
- 22:01Speaker 1: improvement And i'll be really really interested to see what
- 22:05Speaker 1: happens as a result of this.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Headline On july, fourth your host of the, Show jean St,
- 22:10Speaker 2: auth my Name Peyton, Hilock this is the kfab comment.

- 22:44Speaker 1: he suggested BECAUSE i told HIM i was listening on
- 22:48Speaker 1: my phone to the two you guys live On. Thursday
- 22:52Speaker 1: it was, no, Yeah, thursday and he, said why don't
- 22:55Speaker 1: you call? In AND i, said oh, gosh next time

- 23:04Speaker 1: It's jean starth put me on the air right. Now
- 23:07Speaker 1: SO i love. IT i love.
- 23:08Speaker 2: It, Well speaking Of, collins let's get to one more phone. Call.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Here we Have.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Teresa we appreciate you for calling In teresa for zero
- 23:15Speaker 2: two five, five eight eleven. Ten you are live With
- 23:17Speaker 2: jean stauth here on Kfab good, Morning, Jean, hi good.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Morning. Hey I'm i'm just giving some opinions on the
- 23:25Speaker 3: World harold as of the. PAST i don't know it's
- 23:28Speaker 3: been the past several years, now but we still subscribe
- 23:32Speaker 3: and have since the nineteen. Eighties and you, know my
- 23:35Speaker 3: parents used to live In, missouri AND i would cut
- 23:37Speaker 3: out articles and send them to my mother because she
- 23:41Speaker 3: missed The World harold so. Much And i'd send columns
- 23:46Speaker 3: that were in the editorial page and the editorial cartoons
- 23:49Speaker 3: and things like. That and they were very conservative leaning
- 23:52Speaker 3: at that, time and they had, MANY i, mean they
- 23:56Speaker 3: had so many good columnists at that. Time it was just.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Fabulous Had Thomas, soul they Had Kathleen, parker and just
- 24:03Speaker 3: a bunch of very conservative. Columnists and that has changed
- 24:07Speaker 3: so drastically in the past few years THAT i hardly
- 24:12Speaker 3: recognized the. Paper and just the fact that they would
- 24:15Speaker 3: have that is the headliner on the fourth Of, JULY
- 24:20Speaker 3: i think speaks volumes as to the changes that have
- 24:24Speaker 3: taken place. There and it's just very sad to see
- 24:27Speaker 3: it go down so.
- 24:27Speaker 1: FAR i, agree AND i, said you, KNOW i tried
- 24:30Speaker 1: to explain their point of view as they did not
- 24:33Speaker 1: have any control over the, headline but holy, cow they,
- 24:36Speaker 1: should you, know they should know what's going out on
- 24:40Speaker 1: their e addition in the morning if that is the.
- 24:43Speaker 1: HEADLINE i, MEAN i don't know how that works With Lee,
- 24:47Speaker 1: enterprises but they were able to change it later on
- 24:50Speaker 1: that day and change the front page online to something.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Else it seems like to me they should absolutely have
- 24:57Speaker 1: control over what is put as their. Headlines SO i
- 25:00Speaker 1: don't know if that's if that's just you, know pretty
- 25:04Speaker 1: normal within the newspaper, business BUT i sure think that
- 25:08Speaker 1: they should have some control over it and that should
- 25:10Speaker 1: not happen. Again i'm, sure like you and, me it
- 25:14Speaker 1: really turned off.
- 25:15Speaker 2: A lot of.
- 25:15Speaker 3: People, YEAH i, agree AND i.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Agree they used to be, really really. GOOD i, Mean
- 25:21Speaker 1: i've taken The World herold since nineteen ninety three WHEN
- 25:25Speaker 1: i first moved, here And i've taken it every, since
- 25:28Speaker 1: AND i take. NOW i get the paper copy and
- 25:31Speaker 1: the edition both in Case i'm traveling or, SOMETHING i
- 25:34Speaker 1: could still read, it AND i read it every, day
- 25:36Speaker 1: and THEN i get mad every day and, Go i'm
- 25:38Speaker 1: not going to read this ever, again and THEN i
- 25:39Speaker 1: pick it up the next day and read it. AGAIN
- 25:42Speaker 1: i used to do that with the you, know the public.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Pulse it used to make me so mad because you,
- 25:47Speaker 1: know during, it during a, campaign campaigns have they write
- 25:52Speaker 1: their own public pulse letters and have somebody send it,
- 25:55Speaker 1: in you, know somebody who's, name and sometimes it's not
- 25:58Speaker 1: even a real, person and they don't even check him
- 26:01Speaker 1: anymore to make sure that these are real. People but
- 26:04Speaker 1: they will always, BE i think. Anymore they're, very very
- 26:08Speaker 1: leaning against the, governor against the, senators against the. President
- 26:13Speaker 1: if you read, them it seems like there are more
- 26:15Speaker 1: that are Anti republican and Anti republican elected officials than anything.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Else, RIGHT i, agree BECAUSE i know that we also
- 26:26Speaker 3: we still have plenty Of republican or conservative leaning editorial
- 26:31Speaker 3: cartoonists and things like, that but that is extremely. Rare
- 26:35Speaker 3: it is something like that in, There.
- 26:37Speaker 1: AND i LOVE i Loved Jeff katurba when he was
- 26:40Speaker 1: the cartoonist. There you, KNOW i thought he was so
- 26:44Speaker 1: brilliant THAT i would he would do a lot of
- 26:47Speaker 1: cartoons making fun of. Me and the first TIME i met,
- 26:51Speaker 1: him he kind of ran from. Me he, was AND
- 26:55Speaker 1: i went up to him AND i, go, NO i
- 26:56Speaker 1: think you're brilliant because something would happen one day and
- 27:00Speaker 1: the next morning there would be this cartoon and it
- 27:02Speaker 1: was really, hilarious AND i thought they were so. Good
- 27:06Speaker 1: in my office At City, HALL i probably had twenty
- 27:10Speaker 1: of his cartoons THAT i purchased from The World harold
- 27:13Speaker 1: and had them framed of making fun of me because
- 27:15Speaker 1: they were so funny and. WITTY i, mean he was
- 27:19Speaker 1: so good and then they let him go, too and
- 27:21Speaker 1: they're using something national in. There so but thank you
- 27:25Speaker 1: so much for your. CALL i appreciate it and couldn't
- 27:27Speaker 1: agree with you.
- 27:27Speaker 3: More thank, You thanks so, Much.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Jane thank, You. Teresa it's always good to hear from.
- 27:32Speaker 4: You.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Now one, Thing, jeane that we got into last week
- 27:35Speaker 2: that was pretty. Interesting i'm just going to tee you
- 27:39Speaker 2: up for. This we didn't get to talk about it
- 27:41Speaker 2: because some news broke On thursday and you decided to
- 27:45Speaker 2: abandon the. Show but there were some big news with
- 27:50Speaker 2: the city Of omaha On. Thursday would you like to
- 27:52Speaker 2: get into.
- 27:53Speaker 1: That the parks director, Issue, YES i, would because there
- 27:57Speaker 1: was an article in The World harold On, Sunday july,
- 28:01Speaker 1: fifth about That ewing appoints an interim parks. Director Now
- 28:05Speaker 1: i've told this audience And i've told everybody AT kfab
- 28:08Speaker 1: my job here is not to sit and Criticize mayor
- 28:11Speaker 1: youwing every. Show BUT i promised YOU i would tell
- 28:14Speaker 1: you the, truth And i'm going to tell you the
- 28:16Speaker 1: truth with this. Article so this article is about mayor
- 28:20Speaker 1: appointing another in terms parks, director and it talks about
- 28:26Speaker 1: earlier this. Year they did not own. Late well they
- 28:31Speaker 1: have now within the past year done two failed searches
- 28:35Speaker 1: for a new parks. Director now let's go back and
- 28:38Speaker 1: just lay this out for. Everybody SO i want to
- 28:40Speaker 1: make sure you understand because WHEN i was mayor back
- 28:45Speaker 1: in twenty, TWENTY i did a national search with a
- 28:51Speaker 1: company that was CALLED i have to look it up,
- 28:56Speaker 1: here it was called Search Wide, global and that was
- 29:00Speaker 1: for a new parks. Director WHEN i became, mayor the
- 29:03Speaker 1: parks director that was Under Mayor subtle, resigned which a
- 29:07Speaker 1: lot due when a new mayor comes. In SO i
- 29:10Speaker 1: Promoted Brooke bench from within to be the parks. DIRECTOR
- 29:14Speaker 1: i did not do a national, search and he was.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Fantastic and then when in twenty, twenty he accepted a
- 29:20Speaker 1: job At Lake, cunningham which is still An Omaha city public,
- 29:24Speaker 1: park but he accepted the job to kind of oversee
- 29:28Speaker 1: all the philanthropic work that was being done At. Cunningham
- 29:31Speaker 1: SO i did one national search back in twenty, twenty
- 29:35Speaker 1: and at that TIME i knew exactly what we were looking.
- 29:39Speaker 1: For we were looking for a parks director that had
- 29:42Speaker 1: a lot of experience with day to day, maintenance with,
- 29:46Speaker 1: budgeting a lot of experience with, programming and we knew
- 29:51Speaker 1: exactly what we were looking for and we put that
- 29:54Speaker 1: in the criteria to do the. Search we had multiple
- 30:00Speaker 1: candidates that were referred to us for, interview multiple, candidates
- 30:08Speaker 1: and there were multiple that we could have picked up
- 30:10Speaker 1: from really really good park. Directors the city at that
- 30:14Speaker 1: time paid fifty three thousand dollars to search Wide, global
- 30:18Speaker 1: and that's WHEN i Chose Matt. Kalsovich chose him in twenty,
- 30:22Speaker 1: twenty so he was the parks director for five. Years.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Now it does say in this article once again That
- 30:30Speaker 1: Matt kalsovich resigned in twenty, twenty AND i will tell you,
- 30:34Speaker 1: honestly he did not want to. Resign he was forced to.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Resign he was told you either resign or you will be.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Terminated he at that time had been working on the
- 30:46Speaker 1: park's master. Plan that is something THAT i started in
- 30:50Speaker 1: twenty twenty, four a parks master, plan BECAUSE i recognized
- 30:55Speaker 1: that the parks were Not they did not have enough
- 30:58Speaker 1: in their budget as they. Needed they needed more capital
- 31:01Speaker 1: equipment in THE cip The Capital Improvement, plan they needed
- 31:05Speaker 1: a bigger. BUDGET i routinely increased their. Budget if you
- 31:09Speaker 1: recall in twenty twenty are twenty twenty, one it was
- 31:12Speaker 1: when we got the government, money THE covid. Money the
- 31:15Speaker 1: number one issue That omaha identified was to put more
- 31:19Speaker 1: money in our. PARKS i gave the parks that year
- 31:21Speaker 1: an additional twelve million dollars to put in the. Parks
- 31:24Speaker 1: but WHAT i said IS i know that The Parks
- 31:27Speaker 1: department has been under budget for, years and Mak kalsovich
- 31:32Speaker 1: had some of the best ideas for our parks In,
- 31:35Speaker 1: omaha AND i, said but what we need is a master.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Plan and we needed to have get this master plan
- 31:42Speaker 1: done because we have two hundred and fifty six parks In,
- 31:45Speaker 1: omaha so that we can prioritize where we're going to
- 31:48Speaker 1: be spending the, money and we need a twenty year
- 31:50Speaker 1: plan and then we need to know for our budget
- 31:53Speaker 1: how much we need to increase The Parks department budget
- 31:56Speaker 1: based on that master, plan and they hired a consultant
- 32:00Speaker 1: at that. Time in twenty twenty, four When Matt kalsovich
- 32:04Speaker 1: was told you either resign or be, terminated he, said
- 32:08Speaker 1: but the master plan is essentially. Done let me show
- 32:11Speaker 1: it to. You let me show you what we have.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Here didn't really want to see, it AND i know
- 32:16Speaker 1: it Was Mary ewing And Tom warren in that conversation
- 32:21Speaker 1: didn't really want to see, it but it was essentially.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Done so in this article that came out On, sunday
- 32:27Speaker 1: it basically says that they were Appointing Jacqueline morrison to
- 32:30Speaker 1: Replace linder as the Interim Parks Director Jake. Linder this
- 32:37Speaker 1: was something that drew a big red flag to. Me,
- 32:39Speaker 1: ANYWAY i Hired Jacqueline morrison And Marco floriani at the
- 32:43Speaker 1: same time in my office As Deputy chief his staff
- 32:47Speaker 1: For Economic. Development they both had the same, title got
- 32:50Speaker 1: the same, salary had the same value of the projects
- 32:52Speaker 1: that they were working. On as soon As ewing became,
- 32:56Speaker 1: mayor he promoted her to the Executive Economic. Developer there
- 33:01Speaker 1: was only two of, them so now there's one executive In,
- 33:04Speaker 1: marco which they both did a very good. Job then
- 33:09Speaker 1: he promoted her to The director Of transformation And Strategic,
- 33:13Speaker 1: partnerships whatever that. Is it was supposed to be to
- 33:16Speaker 1: lead a major donor involved initiative with city. Parks my, opinion,
- 33:21Speaker 1: folks that should be the. Mayor the mayor should be
- 33:24Speaker 1: dealing with philanthropy and not another person under him to
- 33:29Speaker 1: be dealing with from. Philanthropy but keep in, mind we
- 33:33Speaker 1: had such good public private partnerships that we, developed and
- 33:37Speaker 1: a good example is four hundred million towards The riverfront, parks,
- 33:40Speaker 1: downtown the new stadium At North HIGH i could just
- 33:46Speaker 1: name the parks all Over omaha that we've had good
- 33:50Speaker 1: philanthropic support with in good public private. Relationships it does
- 33:55Speaker 1: say In march That Mayor ewing announced that An omaha
- 33:59Speaker 1: donor our, donors offered to contribute five million towards the
- 34:03Speaker 1: park if the city can find an additional five million
- 34:05Speaker 1: to match. It where are they going to get the five?
- 34:07Speaker 1: Million nobody has ever asked that, question nor do they
- 34:11Speaker 1: ask in this article to, say, okay five Million, okay
- 34:15Speaker 1: that's five million. More that's pretty. Good remember WITH covid
- 34:18Speaker 1: we put in another twelve. Million we've been increasing their
- 34:21Speaker 1: budget every. Year but where are they going to get
- 34:23Speaker 1: the match. From that's a question that should be. Asked
- 34:27Speaker 1: and they talk about how many parks we, have et.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Cetera but we knew that. Already you, know they're trying
- 34:33Speaker 1: to explain this to. Me this article is nothing but,
- 34:36Speaker 1: excuses is What i'm trying to get. To they talk
- 34:38Speaker 1: about that the consultant said we are five million short.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Annually we already knew. That it says about how we
- 34:45Speaker 1: have two hundred and fifty plus. Parks we al know.
- 34:48Speaker 1: That it talks about the acres of land and the
- 34:51Speaker 1: miles of. Trails we already knew all of.
- 34:54Speaker 2: That you can probably just look it up On google
- 34:56Speaker 2: and find all that stuff.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Happened and the, consultant LIKE i, said was hired in
- 35:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty four and the master plan was essentially. Done
- 35:05Speaker 1: and now it talks about that this is the right
- 35:08Speaker 1: time now because now that the master plan is really,
- 35:13Speaker 1: done WHICH i don't know what that, means now they
- 35:15Speaker 1: really know what they need in a new parks director
- 35:20Speaker 1: And jacqueline is saying the city you would needs somebody
- 35:23Speaker 1: that has expertise in budgeting and fundraising and then the
- 35:28Speaker 1: ability to identify deficiencies and solve. Them we knew that.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Too that's WHAT i used the criteria WHEN i Hired
- 35:34Speaker 1: Matt kalsovich five years, ago and then again For Jacqueline,
- 35:39Speaker 1: morrison who was an. Attorney she used to work in
- 35:42Speaker 1: The prosecutor's. OFFICE i hired her because she was working
- 35:46Speaker 1: with the State department Of Economic development and she knew
- 35:49Speaker 1: a lot about. Incentives but to go to a parks,
- 35:52Speaker 1: DIRECTOR i don't understand the qualifications there at. All but
- 35:57Speaker 1: all of this that they're, saying, well we had two
- 35:59Speaker 1: failed searches, now but now we have this master plan
- 36:05Speaker 1: and now we really know what we. Need, folks they
- 36:08Speaker 1: knew this years ago what they really needed in a parks,
- 36:11Speaker 1: director and this master plan was essentially done over a year.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Ago so two failed searches and now they're going to
- 36:20Speaker 1: do a third. Search. Now this is the part of
- 36:23Speaker 1: the article that bothered me the, most is it Said
- 36:27Speaker 1: Jacqueline morrison said that a couple decisions drove the decision
- 36:31Speaker 1: to change interim, directors but she said one being that
- 36:37Speaker 1: The Parks department is facing budget issues and the city
- 36:41Speaker 1: is going into its budget process for twenty twenty. Seven
- 36:46Speaker 1: they're going into the budget process for twenty twenty. Seven
- 36:50Speaker 1: she's quoted in saying, this the budget is being presented
- 36:54Speaker 1: in the end Of. July the budget is done or
- 36:57Speaker 1: it should be. Done and if the budget is not, done,
- 37:00Speaker 1: folks we're in. Trouble because WHEN i left office In
- 37:04Speaker 1: june of twenty twenty, five the twenty twenty six budget
- 37:08Speaker 1: was done In, june BECAUSE i did it with my
- 37:11Speaker 1: team and with all the. Directors it was. Done the
- 37:14Speaker 1: budget that we are operating under, now twenty twenty, six
- 37:17Speaker 1: it was done When Mary ewing became. Mayor it was
- 37:20Speaker 1: done In, june and it was. Balanced so if she
- 37:24Speaker 1: is quoted in saying that they're going into the budget
- 37:27Speaker 1: process for twenty twenty, seven we're in. Trouble if they're
- 37:30Speaker 1: just going into that budget process right, now this should
- 37:33Speaker 1: all be done by. Now, so LIKE i, said the
- 37:39Speaker 1: definition of what a parks director should be and the
- 37:42Speaker 1: criteria and the qualifications have really already been. Established that
- 37:47Speaker 1: master plan was already done about a year, ago essentially,
- 37:50Speaker 1: done and we knew what we needed and we. KNEW
- 37:54Speaker 1: i knew that the parks had been under budget for,
- 37:57Speaker 1: years and we knew we needed to increase that. Budget
- 38:00Speaker 1: but we needed to know what the plan was for
- 38:02Speaker 1: the next twenty years so that we could carefully budget
- 38:05Speaker 1: year after year after.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Year, GENE i know you're on a. Role we're going
- 38:08Speaker 2: to take a quick. Break when we come, BACK i
- 38:10Speaker 2: want to ask why is it so difficult to find
- 38:13Speaker 2: a parks? Director kfabe comment line with your Host jeene.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Stoutht my name Is Peyton, hylock And, GENE i want
- 38:19Speaker 2: to get into why is it so hard to find
- 38:22Speaker 2: a parks director for The city Of? Omaha real. Quick
- 38:25Speaker 2: i'm just going to let you. Know these are the
- 38:26Speaker 2: requirements on the job. Application this executive level role requires
- 38:32Speaker 2: ten years of administrative, experience a bachelor's degree in public,
- 38:37Speaker 2: administration parks and recreation, management landscape. ARCHITECTURE a master's degree is,
- 38:44Speaker 2: preferred and this position reports to The mayor and offers
- 38:48Speaker 2: a salary between one hundred and sixty thousand dollars and
- 38:51Speaker 2: two hundred thousand. Dollars why is it so difficult to
- 38:54Speaker 2: find a parks?
- 38:55Speaker 1: Director, see that's the big question here because LIKE i,
- 38:58Speaker 1: SAID i did one, search one national. SEARCH i knew
- 39:01Speaker 1: what we were looking, for we established that. Criteria we
- 39:05Speaker 1: did one, search and we had multiple great, candidates and
- 39:09Speaker 1: that's WHEN i Chose Matt. KALSEVICH i do not know
- 39:12Speaker 1: why there has been two failed, attempts and to, me
- 39:18Speaker 1: this article and WHAT i am hearing so far just.
- 39:20Speaker 1: EXCUSES i don't know. Why it doesn't make sense to
- 39:24Speaker 1: me at. All now you know there's an expense to.
- 39:27Speaker 1: This LIKE i said in twenty, twenty the search THAT
- 39:29Speaker 1: i did was fifty three thousand. Dollars but we hired
- 39:32Speaker 1: a director on the first try and he served very
- 39:36Speaker 1: very well for five. YEARS i know that they are
- 39:39Speaker 1: saying that THAT i guess part of their search has
- 39:43Speaker 1: been paid for by grants from a FOUNDATION i. KNOW
- 39:48Speaker 1: i Think Peter Keatwood foundation approved a grant for up
- 39:52Speaker 1: to seventy five thousand to assist with the cost of the,
- 39:55Speaker 1: SEARCH i, guess AND i worked a lot with foundations,
- 39:58Speaker 1: Too BUT i kind of question even that if there's
- 40:01Speaker 1: a bit of a conflict, THERE i bet the city
- 40:03Speaker 1: will say there. Isn't but for philanthropy giving money towards
- 40:08Speaker 1: a park or towards a development to me is, fantastic
- 40:11Speaker 1: like they did with The Riverfront parks and a lot
- 40:13Speaker 1: of other. Parks but to actually be involved in who
- 40:16Speaker 1: that parks, director which is a public, employee IS i
- 40:19Speaker 1: kind of scratch my head a little bit on. That
- 40:21Speaker 1: but the criteria should have been already established what they
- 40:25Speaker 1: needed before they did the first and second. Search and to,
- 40:29Speaker 1: say now we have the report from the, consultant now
- 40:32Speaker 1: we have the master, plan now we know is an
- 40:35Speaker 1: excuse in my, opinion because, again that was all done
- 40:39Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty, four is when we started that master,
- 40:42Speaker 1: plan and when we hire that, Consultant.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Why do you have to be so? Qualified it's just
- 40:48Speaker 2: a parks, director, RIGHT i, mean is it really that
- 40:52Speaker 2: extensive of? Requirements?
- 40:53Speaker 1: YEAH i think, WELL i think number, one we have
- 40:56Speaker 1: a lot of. Parks it's a, big big, job and
- 40:59Speaker 1: they have a big, budget AND i do think they
- 41:01Speaker 1: have been underfunded in the. Years but you need. Somebody you,
- 41:06Speaker 1: know the directors of a department are in charge of that,
- 41:08Speaker 1: budget and so you need somebody that understands, budgeting but
- 41:11Speaker 1: you need somebody that understands. Parks they understand, programming they
- 41:16Speaker 1: understand the, maintenance the ongoing. Maintenance they understand what equipment they,
- 41:21Speaker 1: need they understand there's all sorts of criteria that goes into. It,
- 41:25Speaker 1: NOW i don't think ten years of administrative. Experience what
- 41:28Speaker 1: kind of administrative? EXPERIENCE i, mean that's that's WHAT i would.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Question jacquelin does not have ten years of administrative experience
- 41:36Speaker 1: with city. Government you know she does, Not so obviously
- 41:40Speaker 1: she's INTROM i don't. KNOW i, MEAN i don't even
- 41:43Speaker 1: know if she's a candidate for the full time sparks.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Director but when my first one THAT i said THAT
- 41:48Speaker 1: i promoted from, within AND i Know Chris baker's talked
- 41:51Speaker 1: about this in the, afternoon is are there people within
- 41:55Speaker 1: that that have been there for years the.
- 41:57Speaker 2: City that are In omaha right now.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And that that budgeting is very very important, too because
- 42:03Speaker 1: they have to manage that. Budget and you, KNOW i
- 42:06Speaker 1: worked with all the department directors to develop their, budget
- 42:10Speaker 1: but THEN i put it on them to manage it
- 42:12Speaker 1: throughout the. Year but when they really need more things
- 42:17Speaker 1: like like they need a new, lawnmower they need a new,
- 42:19Speaker 1: mulcher they need more chemicals to treat the, weeds they
- 42:22Speaker 1: got to have. It you don't Say, oh, sorry you're
- 42:24Speaker 1: running out of. Money SO i felt all along we
- 42:27Speaker 1: already knew that they were short about five million dollars a.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Year thirty seconds left here in the, Show, Gene who
- 42:33Speaker 2: do we have on the show? Tomorrow and what can
- 42:35Speaker 2: the listeners?
- 42:35Speaker 1: Expect, oh AND i want you to all tune in
- 42:37Speaker 1: because we the next three days we have really good.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Guests Jill, shudeck who is the mayor Of Council, bluffs
- 42:44Speaker 1: will be here. TOMORROW i can't wait to talk to
- 42:46Speaker 1: her BECAUSE i kind of get the mayor, thing you.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Know Mary Ellen, trumper who is the STATE gop, chair
- 42:53Speaker 1: is going to be in the studio On. Thursday and
- 42:55Speaker 1: Then Lauren, sensek who is THE ceo Of Metro. Transit
- 42:59Speaker 1: we're going to talk about the buses and the bus
- 43:01Speaker 1: systems On. Friday so that is it for us, today
