- 1:30which is available at autismhacks.net right now.
- 1:33So as bridges are shyness, you know, when I was a little kid
- 1:36growing up, a lot of people say I was overly shy.
- 1:37I was so shy, in fact, that there was that was the main
- 1:40thing which are we Daniel's too shy.
- 1:42He used too many things going on, but that's not necessarily
- 1:44the case. Actually was diagnosed as
- 1:46bridges syndrome, which is now called autism spectrum disorder.
- 1:48That kind of accounts for most of the issues.
- 1:51So I want just want to talk of some of the key differences
- 1:53between asperges and shyness, right?
- 1:55So asperges often involves lack of social skills, whereas
- 1:58shyness doesn't necessarily have this issue.
- 2:01You can be or have shyness but still be able to understand
- 2:03social protocol, right? Which is what people with
- 2:06Asperges lack. Aspergers can also involve
- 2:08repetitive behaviour, you know, doing the same thing over over
- 2:11again. But again, you know, shyness
- 2:12won't have this, this just shyness at the end of the day,
- 2:15people with Aspergers will struggle to understand, read
- 2:17social cues from social conventions, how close to stand
- 2:20to somebody, how much of the conversation you have to put
- 2:23input before it's somebody else's turn.
- 2:25And all those kind of key areas which I think are so important
- 2:28for social cues. Asperger syndrome.
- 2:29People with that condition won't know that those those inherent
- 2:32issues with socializing. However, people with shyness
- 2:35definitely will. It's something that people who
- 2:37suffer from shiners will still understand the social protocol,
- 2:40which may be shy, and it's more important really to understand
- 2:43some of the key actual elements on with the table.
- 2:46Asperger syndrome, which is now just called ASD for autism
- 2:49spectrum disorder. They would have difficulty with
- 2:51social interactions. They'll have limited interest in
- 2:54anything. We want to have routines to have
- 2:56like very scheduled. Their days will be very much the
- 3:00same and even their food will be quite restricted and they will
- 3:03have repetitive behavior that they get enjoyment out of.
- 3:06That's what someone was an awesome special sort of enjoy
- 3:08it. They'll have sensory processing
- 3:09issues. I mean maybe lights, sound,
- 3:12smell. These may be quite overwhelmed
- 3:14somebody with Aspergers and then it'll be a difficulty with
- 3:17communication and it could be written communication, it could
- 3:20be non verbal communication, it could be any type of
- 3:22communication that that person may find difficult.
- 3:25Now, if you if somebody else knows that these are something
- 3:27that impacts your life and you haven't already, this is worth
- 3:29getting kind of like checked out and assessed because then there
- 3:31may be help and support available for you.
