Latest / Normally / Normally Podcast: A Normal Inauguration Day Recap
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hey guys, we were back on Normally the show with
- 0:05Speaker 1: normalish takes for when the news gets weird and it
- 0:09Speaker 1: is a very cold Inauguration Day edition of Normally. I'm
- 0:14Speaker 1: here with as always.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Carol Marko. It's nice to talk to you, MK. Can't
- 0:19Speaker 2: wait to hear your impressions of Inauguration Day.
- 0:22Speaker 1: First of all, I was a little skeptical of moving
- 0:24Speaker 1: in inside, even though I know there's precedent for that
- 0:27Speaker 1: when it's very cold, and I'm a woosen the cold,
- 0:30Speaker 1: so you'd think I would support it, But I was
- 0:32Speaker 1: worried about sort.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Of the same girl name.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I was worried about the sort of majesty. I was
- 0:38Speaker 1: worried about people not getting to see what they had
- 0:41Speaker 1: traveled to see, many from very far away, and many
- 0:44Speaker 1: people who had spent a long time supporting the president. However,
- 0:48Speaker 1: it was bone chilling outside. It was really nasty, definitely.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It actually snowed yesterday while we were on air at
- 0:57Speaker 1: various times in sleated, and it was icy, and it
- 1:00Speaker 1: was like a wind chill of twelve and so I
- 1:02Speaker 1: think everybody had had a fun time inside restaurants and
- 1:06Speaker 1: parties and made the best of the weekend and the
- 1:09Speaker 1: Rotunda experience was really beautiful. I of course was not
- 1:14Speaker 1: among the six hundred invited inside the rotunda, but it
- 1:17Speaker 1: was beautiful watching it on TV and covering it.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Love it. But I saw you were at some parties.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I saw you met. Who did you meet?
- 1:25Speaker 1: I met Connor McGregor.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yes, Connor McGregor was great celebrity spotting. I would get
- 1:33Speaker 2: my picture taken with him. I know who he is.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yes, well, that's you know, he's really famous because he's
- 1:38Speaker 1: a he's the fighter that everyone knows, right. He's like
- 1:41Speaker 1: our he's our generations Mike Tyson level, well known. And
- 1:46Speaker 1: it was funny. I was talking to at It was
- 1:48Speaker 1: at the Free Press party the night before the inauguration,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and I was talking to an Atlantic reporter who was like,
- 1:53Speaker 1: my husband says, there's some famous fighter around here. And
- 1:57Speaker 1: so my husband and I, who are both UFC fans,
- 1:59Speaker 1: are looking around trying to see, like, oh, there's probably
- 2:02Speaker 1: a medium famous UFC fighter here. It's like, oh my god,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but with more cusswords. Is that kind of Regrettiger? And
- 2:11Speaker 1: here's the fun part, Carol, someone who works in his team,
- 2:18Speaker 1: This is a great lesson about like being nice to
- 2:21Speaker 1: folks throughout your career, no matter which job they have. YEA,
- 2:26Speaker 1: someone on his team says Connor, I want you to
- 2:30Speaker 1: meet Mary Catherine Ham. Amazing, And I go what because
- 2:34Speaker 1: we were just trying to sneak over and get a selfie, right,
- 2:37Speaker 1: And it turns out it was a young man who
- 2:40Speaker 1: interreed at the Hugh Hewitt Show for several years and
- 2:43Speaker 1: we used to work with each other over the phone
- 2:45Speaker 1: doing radio in like twenty eleven, and so we did
- 2:50Speaker 1: need to meet him and it was fantastic. So I
- 2:54Speaker 1: was excited about that. I was excited about the other
- 2:56Speaker 1: celebrity siding I had, which was Jillian Michaels and I
- 2:59Speaker 1: love to talk.
- 3:00Speaker 2: She's amazing, she was a blast. I knew you guys
- 3:04Speaker 2: would be friends. When I met her, I was like,
- 3:06Speaker 2: you have to meet my co host Mary Catherine Ham,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and I just I knew that would be a loved connection.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. I could definitely hang out with her
- 3:15Speaker 1: in the gym or not, and she would definitely beat
- 3:19Speaker 1: me in the gym, but I could do my best.
- 3:22Speaker 1: But anyway, so a little a couple of celebrity sightings
- 3:25Speaker 1: and then mostly work other than that one party.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Right, well, it sounds like a really good time. The
- 3:32Speaker 2: only thing I remember about Connor McGregor I feel like
- 3:34Speaker 2: we were watching this together, but it must have been
- 3:36Speaker 2: like via like the Internet together when he broke someone's
- 3:41Speaker 2: nose with his shoulder. Do you remember that fight? I
- 3:45Speaker 2: just remember talking about it to you.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Well, that's funny. I'm sure I'm at the end of
- 3:49Speaker 1: this weekend blanking on something that I definitely should remember.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Something. Yeah, he like just knocked his shoulder into someone's nose.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Is impressive, really.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Well, and there is something that's actually a good segue
- 4:04Speaker 1: to the like the differentiation between the Trump celebrations and
- 4:11Speaker 1: the actual Rotunda inauguration, because man, like the the rally
- 4:18Speaker 1: before the day before the inauguration, uh, you got it
- 4:23Speaker 1: swerves from Girls Gone Bible giving a prayer to Kid
- 4:27Speaker 1: Rock doing bah with Deba to uh to the Hulkster
- 4:31Speaker 1: and two first time Puerto Rican Pennsylvania voters. I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's just like and then of course ends with the
- 4:39Speaker 1: village people dancing with Trump and then you know the
- 4:43Speaker 1: Connor mcgregors of the world and this like very interesting
- 4:47Speaker 1: new coalition. It's kind of wild. And then you get
- 4:51Speaker 1: to the Rotunda where it's just like this really beautiful
- 4:55Speaker 1: traditional ceremony.
- 4:58Speaker 2: It's actually amazing how really normal and traditional and stayed.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Trump's speech was. I thought it was calm, collected. You know,
- 5:13Speaker 2: look during in twenty sixteen when he gave his speech
- 5:16Speaker 2: and George W. Bush said, that's some weird shipman, like
- 5:19Speaker 2: that was some weird shipman.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It was, it was, and this was not.
- 5:24Speaker 2: This was not weird shit. This was really really normal
- 5:29Speaker 2: and I appreciated that.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I thought that his speech had sort of two halves.
- 5:36Speaker 1: One was that it was a pretty explicit indictment of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the current administration and the complaints that Americans have with
- 5:47Speaker 1: the problems that leftists have given them. Yeah, and I
- 5:52Speaker 1: think it was deserved. Right. There are some I'm sure
- 5:55Speaker 1: who are like, oh, he shouldn't have done that to
- 5:57Speaker 1: his face or what have you, but they the discontent
- 6:01Speaker 1: with what the Biden administration gave Americans is what created
- 6:06Speaker 1: this moment, and it was exemplified by Biden. Will get
- 6:12Speaker 1: into this the details of it, but it was exemplified
- 6:14Speaker 1: by Biden pardoning his entire family as he was arriving
- 6:18Speaker 1: for this August ceremony. That's right, just disgraceful. Ignominious behavior
- 6:26Speaker 1: to the end, and I don't even know if he
- 6:28Speaker 1: knows that he's signing it, have.
- 6:30Speaker 2: No ideas, and so we'll seg into the you know,
- 6:35Speaker 2: into more about the pardons in Biden's last day. But
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mentioned to my fourteen year old daughter that Biden
- 6:42Speaker 2: pardoned his family and she was like, maybe he thinks
- 6:45Speaker 2: it did something wrong and he just doesn't know, because
- 6:47Speaker 2: you know, it's Biden, Like, who knows what do he knows?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Fourteen years old knows this.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess. So then you did the first half
- 6:56Speaker 1: of the speech and it's all about, like, you know,
- 6:59Speaker 1: people feeling like they can't get basic services. I deeply
- 7:02Speaker 1: appreciated his mentioning of North Carolina. He's just done it
- 7:04Speaker 1: twice in two days, so I am very happy that
- 7:08Speaker 1: North Carolina will not be forgotten. La has mentioned repeatedly
- 7:11Speaker 1: as well that this lack of trust in institutions has
- 7:17Speaker 1: been driven by those who wanted to take him out.
- 7:21Speaker 1: These are all fair things to point out. I think
- 7:24Speaker 1: one of my favorite lines of the speech was when
- 7:25Speaker 1: he was like he made a promise not to politicize
- 7:28Speaker 1: the Justice Department and go after enemies, and he said
- 7:31Speaker 1: it's something I know a little bit about that was
- 7:34Speaker 1: in mind. Yeah, like a fairly subtle way to do that.
- 7:38Speaker 1: And then there was the like we're America impossible is
- 7:42Speaker 1: what we do best half of the speech and I enjoyed, loveday.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was just great. I look, it's
- 7:50Speaker 2: an optimistic moment. It's a moment that we really need
- 7:55Speaker 2: someone to bring us a little bit closer together. That
- 7:59Speaker 2: that person is Donenald Trump is a surprise to me
- 8:02Speaker 2: as much as it is to anyone, but it is.
- 8:05Speaker 2: It is Donald Trump, but somehow it's Donald Trump yanking
- 8:08Speaker 2: the country together.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Well, and he's explicitly thanked the new minority voters that
- 8:14Speaker 1: he earned during this time. I thought it was interesting
- 8:18Speaker 1: on that front and the sort of the cultural vibe
- 8:20Speaker 1: shift that Soldier boy. A couple people went after him
- 8:24Speaker 1: for performing at the Crypto Ball before the inauguration, and
- 8:28Speaker 1: he did a video and just said, look, made it
- 8:31Speaker 1: very simple. Obama didn't put money in my pocket. Kamala
- 8:36Speaker 1: didn't put money in my pocket. Biden didn't. Trump did.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's important.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The idea that people will say that out loud. Who
- 8:45Speaker 1: are prominent people who are getting flack from their Peers.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Is a real difference.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah, some might call it a vibe shift.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Did we talk about that. Oscar de la Renta is
- 9:00Speaker 1: is advertising that they have dressed Usha Vance and Evanka
- 9:06Speaker 1: Trump this time around. It's amazing the fashion houses are
- 9:10Speaker 1: definitely having a change of heart.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that. I think that that's a really
- 9:17Speaker 2: good sign. And look, I mean obviously these you know,
- 9:21Speaker 2: last time around there were people who were dressing Milania,
- 9:24Speaker 2: but they would get such a barrage of hate and
- 9:27Speaker 2: attempted cancelation that they would tone it down and not
- 9:30Speaker 2: talk about it. He's not doing that. And he's my
- 9:34Speaker 2: favorite designer honestly, him and Carolina Herrera. If I could
- 9:37Speaker 2: just wear two designers, and if I had a zillion dollars,
- 9:41Speaker 2: that's who I would wear all the time.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I also love Oscar de la Rena and by the way,
- 9:45Speaker 1: Usha off the charts. Look I empathize with or I sympathize.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I can't empathize because I can never dress this well,
- 9:55Speaker 1: but I sympathize with Usha having to be next to
- 9:59Speaker 1: mala Ania and Evanka. Right, these are two women who
- 10:03Speaker 1: have a lot of experience dressing in this way frequently
- 10:08Speaker 1: over many years. Defining their own style, all that kind
- 10:12Speaker 1: of stuff, and Usha just knocked it out of the part.
- 10:16Speaker 2: She was breathtaking.
- 10:18Speaker 1: She really was incredible.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Wow, yeah, I thought one of my I was surprised,
- 10:25Speaker 3: you know, even even me, the old cynic I got
- 10:29Speaker 3: a little teary watching jd Vance get sworn in because
- 10:34Speaker 3: it is a generational change, yep.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It is something that frankly, we've been hoping for that
- 10:40Speaker 1: there would be a new generation of leaders. We've been
- 10:43Speaker 1: watching the boomers fight each other for a while. Yeah.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And to see and to see Usha, who I really admire,
- 10:51Speaker 1: with her two year old, which is a real high
- 10:55Speaker 1: difficulty mom moved two year old at a formal, like bold,
- 10:59Speaker 1: high stakes event like that. Mine would not stay quiet
- 11:02Speaker 1: during that swearing in.
- 11:04Speaker 4: But if you get the band aids, she had three
- 11:08Speaker 4: band aids on her hand, which of course we all
- 11:11Speaker 4: know if you're a parent, every parent is because she
- 11:14Speaker 4: just wanted band aids and someone was like, we got
- 11:17Speaker 4: to give her the band aids she needs.
- 11:20Speaker 1: She needs her Barbie band aids or whatever it is.
- 11:23Speaker 1: But to see her carrying her kiddo up there and
- 11:26Speaker 1: proud of her husband and watch him after having come
- 11:29Speaker 1: from his upbringing, which just a really it's a really
- 11:32Speaker 1: nice moment.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It really was, and it was so relatable. They're just
- 11:37Speaker 2: a very relatable couple. I saw you tweet about whether
- 11:41Speaker 2: or not he was getting to watch the football game
- 11:44Speaker 2: he went to Notre Dame or he went to Ohio.
- 11:47Speaker 1: He went to it. He went, let me help you,
- 11:49Speaker 1: he went to.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Help me, help me please. The thing is the fact
- 11:52Speaker 2: that I even know who's playing. You really just yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 2: because I have friends who are into Notre Dame and
- 11:58Speaker 2: they were talking about it, and that's the only reason
- 12:00Speaker 2: Night was playing tonight.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You knew that there was a football game, and you
- 12:03Speaker 1: knew at least part of the name of each school.
- 12:06Speaker 2: It's amazing, so tried, Yeah, that makes sense. He went
- 12:12Speaker 2: to Ohio because I was from.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Style, right, he went to They actually referred to it
- 12:17Speaker 1: as the Ohio State University. And yes, I do hope
- 12:21Speaker 1: that he's I don't when you hear this will know
- 12:23Speaker 1: who won. But I do hope that he's able to
- 12:25Speaker 1: watch that football game because as the most normal dude
- 12:30Speaker 1: who's run for president may or run for vice president
- 12:34Speaker 1: in my lifetime. George W. Bush being the other most
- 12:37Speaker 1: normal dude of recent memory. He should he should be
- 12:40Speaker 1: able to watch his game. Really, I hope so. Right.
- 12:44Speaker 2: You know what's really funny when you think back to
- 12:46Speaker 2: they tried to pin that he was weird. I know
- 12:50Speaker 2: that was how they ran against him, Like, I know
- 12:53Speaker 2: what a terrible campaign message that did not resonate at all.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Jd Vance is weird, that's weird.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I mean he's actually just a He's a lethal combination
- 13:03Speaker 1: of normal seeming and exceptionally smart, brilliant. Right, that's a
- 13:10Speaker 1: killer combo.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yep, personable, all of it.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I also wanted to applaud Carrie Underwood, who you know,
- 13:22Speaker 1: the music dropped out. It was clear that they couldn't
- 13:25Speaker 1: cue the music backing and it wasn't unclear to me
- 13:28Speaker 1: whether it was a track or it was a band
- 13:30Speaker 1: that was playing or what have you. But I loved
- 13:32Speaker 1: when she she's very calm. Obviously she's a total pro,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and it's just getting to the point where people are
- 13:38Speaker 1: awkward enough, and you know, the TV people are like,
- 13:40Speaker 1: are we going to have to stall for time? And
- 13:42Speaker 1: she says she looks at the guy trying to troubleshoot
- 13:45Speaker 1: and she just says, I can just sing it, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: like of course she can. It's the clean version of
- 13:52Speaker 1: our Riley's effort. Let's do it live and and she
- 13:57Speaker 1: then says, if you know, the words helped me out,
- 14:00Speaker 1: And it was a really it turned into a much
- 14:02Speaker 1: more beautiful probably moment because everybody was singing with her,
- 14:06Speaker 1: so that was cool.
- 14:07Speaker 2: It was cool, and Biden was right next to her,
- 14:09Speaker 2: And when she said that, I was like, oh, no,
- 14:11Speaker 2: he does not know the words, and then he kind
- 14:12Speaker 2: of knew the words, so there you go.
- 14:15Speaker 1: It all worked out. No, So it was it was
- 14:19Speaker 1: It's always interesting to watch to witness history. I remember
- 14:24Speaker 1: covering the being on set for the first Trump inauguration
- 14:30Speaker 1: and people already sort of losing their minds a little
- 14:33Speaker 1: bit on set, and my sort of saying like, hey, hey,
- 14:38Speaker 1: some of these are just normal personnel changes that every
- 14:41Speaker 1: administration makes. I don't think we need to make such
- 14:43Speaker 1: huge deal about each of them. And there's an interesting
- 14:46Speaker 1: to me Counterhi history about had they treated him normally, Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: in his first term, he probably would have been a
- 14:57Speaker 1: moderate ish Republican who made some deals with Democrats. He's
- 15:01Speaker 1: very ideologically flexible. They wouldn't have created a situation where
- 15:05Speaker 1: Biden ends up becoming president and just thrashing the brand
- 15:10Speaker 1: and the party for four years, and they probably wouldn't
- 15:13Speaker 1: have ended up. They might not have ended up with
- 15:15Speaker 1: at least this type of second term for Donald Trump right.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Right where everybody's super excited to see him.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Right, they would have if there was a second term,
- 15:25Speaker 1: it would have been it would have been mid mid
- 15:28Speaker 1: COVID and people would have been like, like kind of
- 15:30Speaker 1: bumming out.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I treated him normally, very realistic, alternative history.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I really could see it happening. We'll be right back
- 15:41Speaker 2: on normally. So Biden went out with a bank A
- 15:48Speaker 2: lot of it was expected and still super gross. Like
- 15:56Speaker 2: earlier in the day, John Pittortz tweeted, like, is he
- 16:00Speaker 2: going to wait to give his brother the pardon till
- 16:03Speaker 2: like eleven forty five, And at like eleven thirty five,
- 16:07Speaker 2: he was like, Okay, now's the time, and he did.
- 16:11Speaker 2: He pardoned his brother and other members of his family.
- 16:15Speaker 2: He also pardoned Anthony Fauci. That is one that particularly
- 16:19Speaker 2: I feel kind of strongly about. I also don't think
- 16:24Speaker 2: that that one matches the other pardons really and it's
- 16:29Speaker 2: very curious to me, and it makes me want to
- 16:31Speaker 2: know what exactly he thought he was stardening Fauci for
- 16:35Speaker 2: or whatever.
- 16:36Speaker 1: It is, no stacking interesting. I feel like each of
- 16:39Speaker 1: these pardons gives you a window and to when someone
- 16:42Speaker 1: started committing crimes. It's like, it's like we're first two,
- 16:47Speaker 1: thy fourteen.
- 16:49Speaker 2: And you for letting us know when to start that search.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I do think it's I'm also upset about the Fauci pardon,
- 16:56Speaker 1: And of course the Biden administration wants to have it
- 16:59Speaker 1: both ways, so they they say that, you know, these
- 17:01Speaker 1: guys accepting these pardons, by no way is an admission
- 17:05Speaker 1: of guilt on their behalf. But they also had their
- 17:07Speaker 1: DOJ announce and assert to J six folks that if
- 17:14Speaker 1: they accept pardons, that would be an admission of repence.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So they're really they really want to have it both
- 17:21Speaker 1: ways here and and you really can't. But yeah, and
- 17:26Speaker 1: these guys, you know, Milli and Fauci are like happily
- 17:29Speaker 1: accepting the pardons. I feel like if it was me,
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'd be like, oh, man, thing wrong right right? But yeah,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I mean, I'm curious when he's curious when he started
- 17:41Speaker 1: his crimes. I do I do think all of the
- 17:46Speaker 1: things that lefties overreach on and that Biden does end
- 17:49Speaker 1: up coming back to haunt them. And I don't mean
- 17:52Speaker 1: that just in the precedent for Trump doing things. What
- 17:56Speaker 1: I mean is that, although yes, we can get into that,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I don't just mean that. What I mean is that
- 18:02Speaker 1: when you've pardoned Fauci, he can't play the fifth anymore
- 18:06Speaker 1: because he's immune from anything, and people still want to
- 18:09Speaker 1: get to the bottom of this. So you might actually
- 18:11Speaker 1: be able to question him without Trump, without the risk
- 18:15Speaker 1: of Trump leaning into the temptation to go to vengeful
- 18:18Speaker 1: on him.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yes, And look, you know, the thing is, I have
- 18:23Speaker 2: a very strong opinion on Bauci. I think he did
- 18:25Speaker 2: a lot wrong. I think he was a political agent
- 18:28Speaker 2: in a time where we really really needed a scientist
- 18:31Speaker 2: to explain things to us and to be factual and
- 18:34Speaker 2: truthful and not affected by like Randy Weingarten's wants and needs,
- 18:39Speaker 2: et cetera. But none of that is a crime. So
- 18:42Speaker 2: what is he being pardoned for here? And the thing is,
- 18:46Speaker 2: of course, what is his connection to the Wuhan research Lab?
- 18:50Speaker 2: What is the idea here behind what the bidendministration was
- 18:56Speaker 2: thinking when they pardoned him. They didn't pardon him for
- 18:59Speaker 2: going on TV and saying that you don't need a mask,
- 19:02Speaker 2: and then saying you need two masks, and then saying
- 19:04Speaker 2: you need a mask outside, and then saying you don't
- 19:06Speaker 2: need a mask outside. Right, none of that's none of
- 19:08Speaker 2: that's criminal. So it really does make you think, what
- 19:12Speaker 2: did this man do? What do they know? And how
- 19:15Speaker 2: do we find out? I'm fine with us finding out,
- 19:19Speaker 2: and fine he doesn't get criminally charged for it because
- 19:22Speaker 2: of this pardon, but I want to know what he did.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I hope we get to the bottom of this.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I agree with you. He mentioned, also in classic Fauci fashion,
- 19:34Speaker 1: as he's accepting this pardon, that he has to accept
- 19:38Speaker 1: it because you know, the hypothetical things that Trump could
- 19:41Speaker 1: do that he's not doing. It's always a hypothetical risk.
- 19:46Speaker 1: The hypothetical risk is so great that it could it
- 19:48Speaker 1: would cause intolerable distress to him and his family. And
- 19:51Speaker 1: I'm like, sure, you know, for sure everyone who waved
- 19:55Speaker 1: goodbye to their dying gramdma from the street and couldn't
- 19:58Speaker 1: hold a funeral or go to church or school, they'd
- 20:02Speaker 1: like a word about distress. Anthony Fauci, yep.
- 20:06Speaker 2: And none of that is criminal, right, It's all all
- 20:10Speaker 2: kind of the wrong thing to do and incompetent and
- 20:14Speaker 2: his job and a jerk face. Sure, but none of
- 20:17Speaker 2: that's none of that is criminal. So I really do
- 20:20Speaker 2: think that, and you know, I have just the Rand
- 20:23Speaker 2: Paul to get to the bottom of this. I hope
- 20:26Speaker 2: that Rand Paul runs with this.
- 20:28Speaker 4: You know.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I also looked up kind of the history of Trump
- 20:32Speaker 2: and Fauci, and for a long time they actually had
- 20:34Speaker 2: a very good working relationship and they complimented each other
- 20:37Speaker 2: and all of that. Their real main point of disagreement
- 20:42Speaker 2: and animosity is who gets the credit for getting the
- 20:48Speaker 2: vaccine rolled out quickly. That's not what Fauci haters don't
- 20:54Speaker 2: like about him.
- 20:55Speaker 1: They're not like, you're not.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Giving the appropriate credit to Trump for the vaccine rollout.
- 21:00Speaker 2: It's so, again, what is this really about?
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yes, perhaps we shall find out. Did you see also
- 21:09Speaker 1: that he pardoned he pardoned someone who killed murdered two
- 21:14Speaker 1: FBI agents. Yeah, I mean, and didn't at one point
- 21:18Speaker 1: all the things he said he wasn't going to do,
- 21:21Speaker 1: he's done. He said he wasn't going to do violent offenders.
- 21:25Speaker 1: He said he wasn't going to pardon his son. He
- 21:27Speaker 1: said it wasn't going to part of his partner, his family.
- 21:30Speaker 1: He said he wasn't going to do a blanket preemptive pardons.
- 21:33Speaker 1: In fact, when the hypothetical threat that one Donald Trump
- 21:39Speaker 1: would pardon his family came about in twenty twenty, is
- 21:44Speaker 1: that right? Yet in twenty twenty that when they made
- 21:46Speaker 1: a big deal over that, they asked Biden about this prospect,
- 21:51Speaker 1: this very scary prospect of the norms being destroyed by
- 21:54Speaker 1: Donald Trump, which were later destroyed by Biden, and Biden said,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know, that would really make me worry. I'm paraphrasing,
- 22:00Speaker 1: that would really make me worried about what the nation
- 22:03Speaker 1: and what the world would see about how justice works
- 22:06Speaker 1: in this country. And I'd be very concerned about that.
- 22:08Speaker 1: And you would not see that kind of thing in
- 22:10Speaker 1: my administration. Every single promise he made about this, that's right, and.
- 22:16Speaker 2: All the people who defended him as this is a
- 22:19Speaker 2: good man, this is a man who would never do
- 22:21Speaker 2: these kind of kinds of things, and then, of course,
- 22:24Speaker 2: you know, then he did. The guy he released is
- 22:27Speaker 2: Leonard Peltier from federal prison. He killed two FBI agents,
- 22:32Speaker 2: Jack Kohler and Ronald Williams at the Pine Ridge, Indian
- 22:35Speaker 2: reservation in South Dakota in nineteen seventy five. He was
- 22:39Speaker 2: serving two life sentences and now will be on home confinement.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So a cop killer goes free.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Amazing stuff.
- 22:49Speaker 2: KEUI agents not like being called cops, am I I
- 22:52Speaker 2: think their law enforcement.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I just think over and over again, the left and
- 22:59Speaker 1: by himself end up being the threat. They say that
- 23:06Speaker 1: Trump will be right, and it just happens over and
- 23:09Speaker 1: over and over again. And although I think some of
- 23:11Speaker 1: Trump's behavior oversteps or is bad, even occasionally egregious, the
- 23:18Speaker 1: constitutional threat posed by the cover up of Biden's mental
- 23:25Speaker 1: state is something that goes beyond I think anything I've
- 23:29Speaker 1: ever seen in my lifetime as a as a scandal
- 23:36Speaker 1: of epic proportions in a presidency. Not that it's covered
- 23:39Speaker 1: that way, but it's just right.
- 23:42Speaker 2: And the fact you know that all of this follows
- 23:45Speaker 2: that that he is handing out pardons to who knows
- 23:50Speaker 2: who and who knows why, He's making policies who knows why,
- 23:54Speaker 2: and who knows who's putting it in front of him.
- 23:57Speaker 2: All of that is just the scan to end all scandals.
- 24:01Speaker 2: We're going to take a short break and come right
- 24:03Speaker 2: back with.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Normally, should we go into a little bit of Trump's
- 24:10Speaker 1: actions today. Yeah, because stuff started right away. The CBP
- 24:15Speaker 1: one app disappeared today. It got tiktoked, it got bricked.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:19Speaker 1: This is the app that allowed illegal immigrants to claim
- 24:22Speaker 1: asylum just automatically, and hundreds of thousands of people did
- 24:26Speaker 1: it through an app. We gave them an app for
- 24:28Speaker 1: this with no sort of vetting of the actual claims,
- 24:33Speaker 1: and so that went dark. Like second one, a bunch
- 24:38Speaker 1: of other immigration executive actions are on the list. He's
- 24:43Speaker 1: really flooding the zone. And I a thing they've got
- 24:47Speaker 1: going for them is that they have much better prepped
- 24:49Speaker 1: than they were last time he came in the house.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Different administration, I mean in every way.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Yeah, And so they have these vetted executive orders that
- 24:58Speaker 1: they're trying to get through. I think the Birthright CITIZENSHI
- 25:00Speaker 1: one is going to have some trouble. There's certainly going
- 25:02Speaker 1: to be ones that go to court, but a lot
- 25:04Speaker 1: of them are just very common sense, getting the Biden
- 25:06Speaker 1: administration's nonsense off the books, getting the federal government out
- 25:10Speaker 1: of things that shouldn't be doing and into the things
- 25:12Speaker 1: it should be. And so it's been an active day
- 25:17Speaker 1: and it ended with some pardons.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yes, he pardoned almost all of the January sixth participants,
- 25:25Speaker 2: and he commuted is it three sentences.
- 25:28Speaker 1: It's a handful. It's like between three and six. I've
- 25:31Speaker 1: been seeing different numbers. But he shortened the prison terms
- 25:34Speaker 1: for rioters convicted of violence against police and issued sweeping
- 25:37Speaker 1: pardons for scores of other defendants who participated in the
- 25:41Speaker 1: January sixth siege on the Capitol. Is what NPR calls it.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I do think not the violent ones, right, Like, I'm
- 25:52Speaker 1: fine with reassessing these cases. I think a lot of
- 25:56Speaker 1: people's civil liberties were abused. I think that even Enrique Tario,
- 26:03Speaker 1: who's the Proud Boys chairman, got twenty two years because
- 26:06Speaker 1: he wouldn't take a plea deal that was like six
- 26:09Speaker 1: years or something, right, So he was punished for going
- 26:11Speaker 1: to trial, which I don't think should happen. A bunch
- 26:14Speaker 1: of people's info was dragneted so that they could find
- 26:18Speaker 1: the thousands of people who were within the vicinity of
- 26:22Speaker 1: the Capitol. They did a bunch of stuff they shouldn't
- 26:24Speaker 1: have done to get these people, and they've put insane
- 26:28Speaker 1: amounts of resources in time that would have been otherwise
- 26:31Speaker 1: used by the way for like actual violent criminals elsewhere.
- 26:35Speaker 1: So I think, like I would have been very comfortable
- 26:37Speaker 1: with reassessing the nonviolent ones and not the violent ones, right,
- 26:44Speaker 1: you know.
- 26:44Speaker 2: And the thing is is that this conversation would have
- 26:47Speaker 2: been a very different conversation if Joe Biden didn't exit,
- 26:52Speaker 2: you know, pardoning everybody who's ever met for crimes that
- 26:56Speaker 2: they may or may not have done over the course
- 26:58Speaker 2: of decades. So I think that the left really did
- 27:02Speaker 2: shoot themselves in the foot with this, because it's very
- 27:05Speaker 2: hard for them to make this argument that oh, this
- 27:08Speaker 2: is wrong and that, you know, he shouldn't have blanket pardened.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I don't know, I feel like much the same like you.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I'm obviously, you know, very much pro law enforcement and
- 27:19Speaker 2: anti violence, and I think that a lot of these
- 27:22Speaker 2: people's rights got trampled on. And I'm largely okay with
- 27:27Speaker 2: the blanket parden except for the violent ones.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah, so I think he misssteps there, and like, look,
- 27:33Speaker 1: we're going to disagree with the moves he makes sometimes frankly,
- 27:39Speaker 1: today I'll like it like it's on the margins right
- 27:42Speaker 1: where I'm like, okay, I like some of this and
- 27:44Speaker 1: not other parts of it. Like today he does the
- 27:46Speaker 1: inaugural speech, and I'm like, oh, that was that was good.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And then he refuses to stick the landing and goes
- 27:51Speaker 1: next door and does this like rambling long speech to
- 27:55Speaker 1: his to his homers, to his you know, his fans.
- 27:59Speaker 1: It's fan service. It never seems to hurt him very
- 28:02Speaker 1: badly though, So but yeah, in this case, I think
- 28:06Speaker 1: I think that's that's the wrong use of this power.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Right. And Enrique Tario, just as a side note, was
- 28:14Speaker 2: not in the capitol that day. He had, you know,
- 28:18Speaker 2: put together a group to march to the capitol, but
- 28:20Speaker 2: he himself wasn't even there.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, if you start looking into the details
- 28:25Speaker 1: of these cases, you go, wait, wait, wait, wait, this
- 28:29Speaker 1: doesn't seem like what I was told. Like Mema was
- 28:32Speaker 1: Mema was parading inside, and there were That's the thing
- 28:35Speaker 1: about January sixth. There were very violent and scary moments,
- 28:39Speaker 1: and then there were other moments that really were just
- 28:41Speaker 1: people walking through an open door.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and they should differently, they should have been treated differently.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess we're just doing We're just trading pardons
- 28:51Speaker 1: all the way down now.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Right right, who even I don't even know what Congress
- 28:55Speaker 2: is doing anymore, is just going to be executive orders, right.
- 28:58Speaker 2: I think that's what what what the Democrats have signed
- 29:01Speaker 2: up for after the last few years.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Well, on a bright note, I will say that the
- 29:05Speaker 1: Senate joined together on the day of inauguration in the evening,
- 29:09Speaker 1: maybe doing some of that drunk voting that Mark Mark
- 29:12Speaker 1: Queen Mullendog's about to approve Senator Market Radio as Secretary
- 29:17Speaker 1: of State ninety nine zero. So look at that.
- 29:21Speaker 2: We did. The unity. Incredible. I've never seen anything like it.
- 29:26Speaker 1: We did the unity. It's so good. Oh man. By
- 29:30Speaker 1: the way, if I have decided that, yes, you shouldn't
- 29:34Speaker 1: wear shorts and a hoodie to inauguration, obviously, Senator John Fetterman. However,
- 29:41Speaker 1: I am on a sliding scale with this now because
- 29:43Speaker 1: if I have to trade his the decorum of his
- 29:48Speaker 1: outfit for his common sense stances, I think that's a
- 29:52Speaker 1: trade I'm willing to make.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yeah, And he just you know, there's a group, some
- 29:58Speaker 2: class of man that always wear shorts, and he's just
- 30:01Speaker 2: in that class, and there's nothing we could do about it.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I think that I think that he should take a
- 30:06Speaker 1: page out of Malania's book, go to Carhart and ask
- 30:09Speaker 1: them to custom design him some formal wear.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I love Carhart. If Carhart wants to designed me some
- 30:16Speaker 2: formal wear, I'm.
- 30:18Speaker 1: In, well you needed it the in DC today, My goodness.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Yes, So wrapping this up okay, so you know we
- 30:27Speaker 2: have our yes I'm still mad bro segment and we
- 30:29Speaker 2: have the in case you missed it segment. I think
- 30:31Speaker 2: we could easily have a Nazi scandal segment.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 30:36Speaker 2: And if we drank every time someone in the Trump
- 30:39Speaker 2: administration is going to be accused of being a Nazi
- 30:42Speaker 2: in the next four years, I think we will be
- 30:44Speaker 2: drunk for many of these episodes. But the winner of
- 30:47Speaker 2: today's episode is Elon Musk and he gave a speech.
- 30:52Speaker 2: He was very excitable, bouncing around the stage, which I
- 30:56Speaker 2: actually love to see. I love when he acts like
- 30:59Speaker 2: a little kid. It's super excited to be there. And
- 31:02Speaker 2: he put his hand on his heart and I don't
- 31:05Speaker 2: remember the exact words. He said something like my heart
- 31:08Speaker 2: goes out to you or yeah yeah, and he moved
- 31:12Speaker 2: his hand up towards the crowd in what people decided
- 31:16Speaker 2: was a Nazi salute and it's bananas. It's so crazy.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I mean you know, and I hate, I actually hate
- 31:26Speaker 2: all the arguments of like, he's not a Nazi, like
- 31:29Speaker 2: he went to Israel, he's pro Jewish, I mean whatever,
- 31:32Speaker 2: Like that's not the point. The point is you can
- 31:35Speaker 2: move your hand in a certain way and not be
- 31:37Speaker 2: a Nazi, and like stop being crazy about it and
- 31:41Speaker 2: the really impressive thing. Sorry, go ahead, yeah, no, no,
- 31:43Speaker 2: you go. Well, I was going to say that there's
- 31:46Speaker 2: the Anti Defamation League, which is a Jewish organization that
- 31:50Speaker 2: is extremely touchy and often gets really crazy about Oh
- 31:57Speaker 2: this is anti semitic, this is antismitic, which I really
- 31:59Speaker 2: think is a bad thing because plenty of things are
- 32:02Speaker 2: antismitic and we don't need to make things up. Yes,
- 32:05Speaker 2: and they tweeted this is a delicate moment. It's a
- 32:09Speaker 2: new day, and yet so many are on edge. Our
- 32:11Speaker 2: politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety.
- 32:15Speaker 2: It seems that Elon Musk made an awkward gesture in
- 32:18Speaker 2: a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute. But again,
- 32:21Speaker 2: we appreciate that people are on edge. In this moment,
- 32:23Speaker 2: all sides should give one another a bit of grace,
- 32:27Speaker 2: perhaps even the benefit of doubt, and take a breath.
- 32:29Speaker 2: This is a new beginning. That's hope. We're healing and
- 32:31Speaker 2: work towards unity in the months and years ahead. This
- 32:34Speaker 2: is such a shocker. This is like the most shocking
- 32:37Speaker 2: thing the ADL's ever done. They took a breath and
- 32:41Speaker 2: weren't crazy.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I love it. No, it's the right thing. They said
- 32:46Speaker 1: it eloquently. Many made eloquent arguments on Elon's behalf. I
- 32:50Speaker 1: just tweeted, I shouldn't cuss, but F you were not
- 32:52Speaker 1: doing this anymore. We're not doing this anymore.
- 32:56Speaker 2: You don't and you don't curse, you really don't.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I try not to do the the really bad words
- 33:01Speaker 1: on the X, but I did tonight because that really
- 33:03Speaker 1: it ticked me off. And we have to just draw
- 33:06Speaker 1: a hardline with these people now, Like it's just like
- 33:08Speaker 1: we're not that's it and doing this. We all know
- 33:11Speaker 1: that that's not what he was doing. We all know
- 33:14Speaker 1: you're pretending. And I'm done pretending exactly whether it's on
- 33:19Speaker 1: men and women and not non binary, whatever it is.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I'm done pretending, whether the president's non compassments, We're done pretending.
- 33:28Speaker 1: By the way, a few adds and ends before we
- 33:30Speaker 1: finish the pardons also included some of these pro life,
- 33:33Speaker 1: nonviolent pro life protesters who have been thrown in prison
- 33:39Speaker 1: first up to three years, one of these women for
- 33:41Speaker 1: being outside an abortion clinic and having conflict with other
- 33:45Speaker 1: counter protesters. So that's nice to see. And then lastly,
- 33:49Speaker 1: the reason that Fox News will continue to soar in
- 33:51Speaker 1: the ratings. Trump does a Q and A from the
- 33:55Speaker 1: Resolute desk in his Oval office. Oh yeah, this is
- 33:58Speaker 1: so good, with a gaggle, and Doucy yells out a question.
- 34:04Speaker 1: He says, do you have a letter from Biden in
- 34:08Speaker 1: your desk? Because you know they get the transition letter? Yeah,
- 34:11Speaker 1: for each other, right, And Trump goes, oh, I haven't
- 34:13Speaker 1: checked yet, should we check? And I was like, this
- 34:16Speaker 1: is the most amazing TV, Like, this is the Trump superpower.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And so he pulls it out and he's like, I
- 34:23Speaker 1: bet you'd like to read it together. Let me read
- 34:25Speaker 1: it first, and I'll fit. It's it's this insane back
- 34:27Speaker 1: and forth that is history playing out before your eyes.
- 34:32Speaker 1: And that's that's why both Trump and Peter Deucy will
- 34:37Speaker 1: continue to succeed.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Yes, they're just so natural, and I love it. I
- 34:42Speaker 2: love that Trump isn't you know a lifelong politician who
- 34:47Speaker 2: always watched everything he said and doesn't know how to
- 34:51Speaker 2: be normal in front of other people. I really enjoy
- 34:54Speaker 2: that about him. I think we're also going to enjoy
- 34:56Speaker 2: the transparency he kind of says what's on his mind. Yes,
- 35:00Speaker 2: he's fantastic, but we'll take it after who knows what
- 35:03Speaker 2: was going on in the last four years did we
- 35:05Speaker 2: even have.
- 35:05Speaker 1: A president exactly? That's one thing you can always say
- 35:09Speaker 1: for Trump is that he's doing the things pretty much
- 35:12Speaker 1: out in the open, and he's telling you what he's
- 35:14Speaker 1: going to do.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Yep, Well here we are. You know, this is the
- 35:19Speaker 2: first episode of the new Trump administration. Looking forward to
- 35:23Speaker 2: four years of talking about this.
- 35:26Speaker 1: There's gonna be as if today is any example, there's
- 35:29Speaker 1: going to be a lot of news broken a lot
- 35:31Speaker 1: of the time, all day long.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, yeah, and we'll be there for all of it.
