- 0:19Speaker 1: I know I look a slight different because I cut off all my hair y'all.
- 0:23Speaker 1: So if you're listening to the podcast, you're missing, you're missing out and missing out.
- 0:28Speaker 1: So let me just get us set up here for those of you who are new to our Thursday prayers I'm Shelly.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I come on every Thursday and this is running on multiple platforms.
- 0:40Speaker 1: So good morning to everybody.
- 0:41Speaker 1: On Facebook, I think there's three Facebook groups now, and LinkedIn and YouTube and Twitter, and a special shout out to those of us, those of you all, who are watching us on the parade deck live TV on the faith channel.
- 0:56Speaker 1: God is so good, he's in the business of getting his word out.
- 1:02Speaker 1: And so, for those of you who are maybe new, I'm on every Thursday kind of kicking off our day with some teaching and some encouragement, and I'm glad you're here.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Please don't forget to like the video and share it if you can, so that other people can get it.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So today we're going to talk about the topic of the theme is what's in a name, and so, as I was preparing this initially, I was going to be talking about, and I am still going to touch on the name of Jesus.
- 1:33Speaker 1: But I was also thinking about names being so powerful names what we, that's what we respond to, right and as, as mom or parents who might be watching at some point.
- 1:45Speaker 1: If you have a child some of y'all, even if you have pets you would have come up with a name, and the name that you use means something.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Some names are tied to legacy.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Some names are just tied to aspiration.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Y'all, back in the 90s, we were all naming.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We were seeing people named their kids aspirational things like Mercedes and champagne, okay.
- 2:07Speaker 1: But but now, as I'm thinking about the names that we carry and the names that we respond to and the name that we call, we call on Jesus.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So, before we go further, I just want to say thank you, lord, for giving us another day, another beautiful Thursday.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Lord, I pray that every single person, under the sound of my voice, has the eyes to see and the ears to hear you, lord, god, and let them hear you and not me, and let them see you and not me, and that you'll be glorified and that they'll be touched and we see whatever it is that they need.
- 2:40Speaker 1: You'll speak to their hearts in the way that you need to, lord.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Amen.
- 2:43Speaker 1: So name, so.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So my name before I was married was pretty long and I think it's part of a the nature of my culture.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'm Jamaican, so my name before I got married was Shelley Ann, angela, raquel Wilson, that was all of my names.
- 3:01Speaker 1: That was my government name and after I got married I shortened it, I removed my middle names and I'm now Shelley Wilson, jeff Cook, okay, and one of the things that I learned from my parents when they named me was my name.
- 3:16Speaker 1: At that time, when they named me, I was named from actresses, so Shelley Winters and Angela Lansbury and Raquel.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Well, I was named because of the love of the arts and those actresses, so I was named back after actresses.
- 3:35Speaker 1: As I got older, I wanted to like our older meaning, as I started to try to figure out my own identity myself.
- 3:42Speaker 1: What am I supposed to do on this earth and you know one of my gifts, and how do I serve God in a different way?
- 3:49Speaker 1: What is my name and what do I respond to when people call me?
- 3:52Speaker 1: Because I don't turn this head for just any name, okay, any name that you call me.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So I started to even study that from a biblical and spiritual perspective and ask in the Lord, what is the name, what's in my name?
- 4:06Speaker 1: And he started to show me different things about my name.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Shelley and Raquel were actually tied to Hebrew names of Rachel, and it means the first time you meet Rachel in the Bible, she's a shepherdess.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So I and that is true for my nature and a blessing on me is that I'm able to shepherd people together, build communities that's what I do and an angel and meaning messenger of God, which is also something that is just comes natural for me to share what the Lord says I'm.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I can't wait to tell everybody and anybody what God has done, what God has said.
- 4:42Speaker 1: That is just a part of me, so my name carries that kind of meaning.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Why, so?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Why it's so important for you to understand the name that you're responding to is because some of us are responding to names that other people gave us that was never ours.
- 4:57Speaker 1: So some of y'all are responding and turning your head to names of shame, names of rejection, names that are gossip, right, names that are at your past, like people calling you stuff that you don't respond to, and you're turning your head to that.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So so, being mindful, that's a spiritual thing, what you're responding to when people call your your name, okay, so that those are just a couple of things that I wanted to share in terms of some of the things that floated up in the name, and so now let's talk about the name.
- 5:28Speaker 1: We're talking about the name of Jesus, okay, so I've got a couple of verses, that kind of shorts.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I probably won't share my screen, but I'm going to start with the first one being second chronicles seven, verse 14, and this is this is about the humility and transformation.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Y'all, maybe I should have shared my screen, but I'm gonna drop it in the chat because I like to give full context and again, I always tell people go back and read this for yourself.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Y'all, don't just take my, my humble, uh, you know approach.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Go back and read it, study for yourself.
- 6:06Speaker 1: But second chronicles, uh, for second chronicles seven, 14, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their, their land.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And so, um, one talks about if my people who are called by my name, so this is the name of Jesus.
- 6:35Speaker 1: There are so many, I don't even know if they're, I don't know what to call ultra christians like.
- 6:40Speaker 1: There's like christian and there's like believers in this.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Oh, y'all, stop the madness.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Okay, there are some folks who are revising the name of Jesus, as if it makes them more christ, more a better believer, because they say yeshwa, why are we making this so complicated?
- 6:59Speaker 1: Why are we making this so complicated?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Why are we making this so complicated?
- 7:05Speaker 1: The Lord says if my people who are called by my name, so a lot of folks who are not called by his name, calling on the name of Jesus, but what this is, what this verse is talking about, the power that, that that people who are believing on the name of Jesus, believing in who he is, believing in who he says he is right, not guessing, not doubting the power of Jesus, that right People who are called by His name, jesus, then he will hear and forgive our sin and heal the land.
- 7:52Speaker 1: But there's an action.
- 7:54Speaker 1: It's not magic.
- 7:55Speaker 1: It's not magic.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Like you know, you call on Jesus, like you call on Santa Claus, and you know you say the name, you know there's folks, you know y'all.
- 8:02Speaker 1: If you're praying the name of Jesus in a prayer and then you think that magically, that's going to get you what you want.
- 8:08Speaker 1: He knows your heart, he understands, he knows that you're just doing it because you're trying to.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You know piggy bank, right?
- 8:15Speaker 1: You know, lord, I said the name of Jesus over this situation.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So therefore you're going to deliver me.
- 8:19Speaker 1: No, because there are things and conditions that need to happen.
- 8:23Speaker 1: As well as right Believing in the name, believing that that that the Lord will do XYZ, it takes something.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So in this second Chronicles, 7, verse 14 is talking about people who are called.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You still have to humble yourselves and still pray and have to seek His face and you have to turn away from wicked ways.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Then he will hear from heaven and forgive your sin and heal our land.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Okay, so there's a condition around the name.
- 8:53Speaker 1: So the next verse I wanted to share with you comes from John.
- 8:57Speaker 1: John 14, verses 13 through 14.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And this one is you know we hear this one a lot, y'all.
- 9:05Speaker 1: This one is around asking in His name, and so the verse goes you know, whatever you ask, I'm going to pop it on the screen.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do that.
- 9:19Speaker 1: The Father may be glorified in the sun.
- 9:21Speaker 1: If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it again, it's not a piggy bank.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Okay, when it says whatever you ask in my name, you have to have a relationship with Jesus to even know who he is To call on that name because, like us, he's responding.
- 9:38Speaker 1: He's responding to the name.
- 9:40Speaker 1: But we'll put you this way I'm in the supermarket and a lost child could call out mom, right, and I might not hear that child, but if my daughter in a crowded room calls out mom, I will know her voice and I will respond to her.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That is an example of when I say you have to have a relationship with the Lord for Him to respond to you, so that when you call and you ask in His name, because he knows you, because he knows your voice, because he's met you through constant praise and worship, because he's seen your heart, he will respond to you.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And then if you ask anything in His name in His name, meaning, like Lord, I'm putting your responses above my responses he will do it.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Alright, all right.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So the third verse.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I thought and this is kind of a long one, I'm just gonna drop where you can find this here, because this is kind of a long one for me to drop in the chat and this is Matthew 18, verse 20.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna drop it.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna put it up on the screen so y'all can go back and reference this one later.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But Matthew 18, verse 20, and actually 18, I'm sorry, matthew 18, I'm gonna do 18 through 20 for you all.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven, right?
- 11:22Speaker 1: Again, I say to you if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my father in heaven.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Y'all things happen spiritually before it happens naturally, happens spiritually, then it's natural.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Spiritual, then natural, okay.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So anything you're crying out, lord, lord, deliver my children, right, it happens in the spiritual and then it happens in the natural, okay.
- 11:50Speaker 1: So again I say to you this is verse 19,.
- 11:54Speaker 1: If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my father in heaven.
- 12:00Speaker 1: For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.
- 12:06Speaker 1: What does it mean to be gathered in my name?
- 12:09Speaker 1: It means that even in the way that we are communing y'all together when we come before the Lord, together, right, we are.
- 12:17Speaker 1: It's Jesus first.
- 12:19Speaker 1: It's Jesus first.
- 12:21Speaker 1: We're there to worship and we're praising you and lifting him because we are seeking his face and situations and we agree, we agree, we agree right, that Jesus is Lord over everything.
- 12:34Speaker 1: What's in a name?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's not just saying again, it's not just saying the name of Jesus every time you get into trouble and waiting for him to help you and then get disappointed and you know, getting disappointed and getting mad at God because he didn't pull you out of the situation and you pulled yourself into.
- 12:53Speaker 1: We're just calling on the name of Jesus like his candy corn or changing up his name to be more superior as a Christian and yet having a horrible, horrible, horrible heart, being judgmental and hateful and saying that you follow Yeshua as if that makes you better than the believers around you.
- 13:11Speaker 1: It doesn't.
- 13:12Speaker 1: You still have to walk in the principles where you're humble and you're kind and you're loving and you're forgiving, because otherwise, when you call that name, he will not respond because he doesn't know you.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Like the example I gave, as, being a mom in a crowded space, I can hear my daughter from across the room because I know her name and I will respond.
- 13:32Speaker 1: The father is very similar to that.
- 13:37Speaker 1: In the nineties there was this movie.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna share this with you and then I'm gonna say prayer and close out.
- 13:41Speaker 1: In the nineties there was this movie called Candyman and it scared the daylights out of me, okay, but the movie, the premise of this movie, was people would go in front of the mirror, they'd say this name, I think seven times, and then this horrible thing comes and basically devours them, basically devours them, and it was the power of the name, it was the power of the name that created these things, that made these things happen.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And so I was thinking about even if in our basic, in our basic idea, the way we apply, basic understanding, the level of fear and reverence that people would give to a Hollywood figure of Candyman, yet you have no respect for the name of Jesus, just throw it out like it's nothing If you had that same level of reverence, you would limit the number of times and the ways that you say the name.
- 14:47Speaker 1: You would understand that that name carries power, that name shifts and changes things in your environment.
- 14:54Speaker 1: That name does some things and you would respect it and honor it more, so that when you go before God and you call on that name and you ask for something in the name of Jesus, you would understand what doors you are opening, what power that carry, what that means in your life.
- 15:17Speaker 1: If you can be afraid of candy man and respect a Hollywood figure, you surely should have some righteousness about you.
- 15:27Speaker 1: When you say the name of Jesus, you cannot drop it like it's just nothing.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I want to leave you with this thing.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Verse 20, verse, I'm sorry.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Psalm 29.
- 15:40Speaker 1: You know, I was thinking about this, what happens after you call a name.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And Psalm 29,.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I, you know, go back and read this.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I was thinking about when the Lord responds after you call this name and what it sounds like, what it feels like in the spirit.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And first and some again, psalm 29, verse three, talks about the voice of the Lord is over the waters.
- 16:02Speaker 1: The God of glory thunders the Lord over many waters.
- 16:06Speaker 1: The voice of the Lord is powerful.
- 16:08Speaker 1: The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
- 16:11Speaker 1: The voice of the Lord I'm just coming down and I'm going to cut through some of these for the interest of time.
- 16:16Speaker 1: The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars.
- 16:18Speaker 1: The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
- 16:21Speaker 1: The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.
- 16:24Speaker 1: The voice of the Lord makes the dear give birth Right.
- 16:30Speaker 1: So when he's responding, that's the level of power that he's responding in, when he's responding after you call, truly call from your heart the name of Jesus.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So, father, thank you so much for this day, thank you for your teaching.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I pray, lord God, that it will reach the men and women that need to hear this word, so that we Understand the power that is truly in the name of Jesus.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Thank you, lord Jesus, for saving us and for Giving us the power of your Holy Spirit.
- 17:00Speaker 1: And now, as this day goes forward, I ask that you will Show yourself to them in a way that they will understand, and understand the power that your name carries, that we don't take it lightly, that we reverence you, to understand that you are holy.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And so, when we ask for the power of the name, we ask for your, we ask for your help, that we're coming to you humbly, with pure hearts and Asking things that that you would want for us, not what we want for ourselves.
- 17:29Speaker 1: But thank you, lord God, that you have blessed us to come through another storm and pray over every family that may have been impacted by this hurricane as passing through our cities and towns or God, and praying that they are Getting all the help that they need, that you provided the resources already.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I got you already answered these prayers.
- 17:48Speaker 1: A prayer for everyone who is in a season of time where they are seeking you out and they are Calling on the name of Jesus to deliver them from health.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Calling on the name of Jesus to deliver them from lack of resources and jobs.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Calling on the name of Jesus to deliver them from depression and loneliness and mental health issues and Suicide and everything, our God, everything that is Swarming and surrounding us, anything that is taking us away from you.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I pray a special blessing over those who work together as colleagues that even today, lord, god, they will see you as they come into agreement, as they ask for things for their organizations, that they will put you in the center of that.
- 18:34Speaker 1: What would Jesus do truly is a question that we shouldn't forget.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So we thank you, lord, that you're bringing to remembrance all of these things, but, lord, that we reverence your name.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Thank you, lord, for blessing us and we ask for your help today.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Amen, y'all.
- 18:51Speaker 1: That's what I had.
- 18:53Speaker 1: What's in a name?
- 18:54Speaker 1: I hope that blesses you.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Definitely bless me, I was having a whole Sermon with the Holy Spirit before we got started, but I think this is really gonna help y'all Y'all.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Thank you so much for watching.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Don't forget to like the video so that other people can get a chance to see it and for those of y'all who are watching on our Parade, deck TV live, thank you.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Thank you everybody, on all of our channels, and I will see you next week.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Take care.
