- 0:00Speaker 1: This week, we are taking a look back at some
- 0:02Speaker 1: of our favorite episodes from the past five years in
- 0:05Speaker 1: honor of our five year anniversary. Here on Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:08Speaker 1: and for Year two twenty twenty one, we chose taking
- 0:13Speaker 1: a shot at Love. I remember this one being a
- 0:17Speaker 1: real standout for me. It's when we reference all the time.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I have not watched this movie since that review five
- 0:25Speaker 1: years ago. It would be interesting to take another look
- 0:27Speaker 1: at it. But the fun thing about this movie is
- 0:30Speaker 1: this movie is also the movie that launched our relationship
- 0:32Speaker 1: with Julie Sherman Wolf, our relationship. I like to think
- 0:36Speaker 1: of us as friends. She then came on the podcast.
- 0:39Speaker 1: She was our very first interview. She answered some of
- 0:42Speaker 1: our did you see that? And our questions about this episode,
- 0:46Speaker 1: So you can give that episode a listen after you
- 0:48Speaker 1: listen to this, but listen in once again a quick
- 0:51Speaker 1: reminder that this was way back when we were a
- 0:55Speaker 1: bonus episode. Our format was a little bit different, but
- 0:59Speaker 1: we did have a lot of love for this. I
- 1:01Speaker 1: don't even think it was called Winterfest at the time.
- 1:04Speaker 1: What it was it called? I think He's Movies, yep,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I think that's it. Give it a listen. This is
- 1:13Speaker 1: a Bramble Jam podcast. Hey everybody, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 1:37Speaker 1: a bonus episode from Long Story Short. The podcast I'm Megan,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm Wendy, and Girls Gone Hallmark was born out of
- 1:47Speaker 1: a project we did in November and December twenty twenty
- 1:50Speaker 1: where Wendy, who had never seen a single Hallmark movie,
- 1:55Speaker 1: decided she wanted to not only watch them but review them,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and we had so much fun that we are continuing that.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So now we are in January, and the January movie
- 2:06Speaker 1: grouping is New Year New Movies, which is the stupidest
- 2:11Speaker 1: name for a collection of movies I've heard, I'll be honest,
- 2:15Speaker 1: we're gonna have to talk about that.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Last year was Winterfest, much better name.
- 2:20Speaker 1: But we have five movies that we'll be discussing this month,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and our first up is Taking a Shot at Love.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I'm so excited to be back with this series in
- 2:30Speaker 1: January and to be continuing it throughout the year. Me too,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'm very excited. Oh good? Who am I?
- 2:38Speaker 2: I truly don't know?
- 2:40Speaker 3: All right?
- 2:41Speaker 1: Ms Wendy, do you have a synopsis for us? I
- 2:43Speaker 1: share do?
- 2:44Speaker 2: This comes from theofficial Hallmark channel dot com website. Taking
- 2:50Speaker 2: a Shot at Love. Jenna, a former professional dancer, uses
- 2:54Speaker 2: ballet to help a hockey player get back on the ice.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Stars Alexa Penna Vega and Luke McFarlane. Did I say
- 3:01Speaker 2: his last name right? McFarlane? Yes, you got it.
- 3:05Speaker 1: You gotta trust in yourself. You always doubt your pronunciation.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I do. That's like a super hang up of mine. Now,
- 3:13Speaker 1: this movie is set in Hartford, Connecticut, but it was
- 3:17Speaker 1: filmed in Canada.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It's actually set in the town of Avon, Connecticut. Megan, Well,
- 3:27Speaker 2: the article I read said Hartford. You don't remember like
- 3:32Speaker 2: this she it's the Avon Winterfest Ballet Show or whatever
- 3:38Speaker 2: it's called. Yeah, it's it's in the town of Avon,
- 3:42Speaker 2: because what I read, writer Julie Wolf actually lives in
- 3:47Speaker 2: the town Avon, Connecticut and wanted to get the town's
- 3:51Speaker 2: small name.
- 3:53Speaker 1: To be heard in the public or whatever. I heard
- 3:55Speaker 1: that too, and I apologize. It's the county is Hartford,
- 4:00Speaker 1: Avon is the town. So we're both correct there. You know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I believed that this movie was filmed.
- 4:07Speaker 2: In the winter. Well, I have a little bit of
- 4:09Speaker 2: news on that. Actually, all right, it was filmed during Thanksgiving,
- 4:14Speaker 2: so during the week before and the week of Thanksgiving, So.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It was definitely cold in Canada that week. I believed
- 4:20Speaker 1: that it was cold. The skies were gray. Her jackets
- 4:24Speaker 1: were more puffy than fashion.
- 4:28Speaker 2: They weren't the beautiful coats that Candice Cameron wore.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, they were function over form. Two notes here.
- 4:36Speaker 2: One, The fact that this movie was filmed in November
- 4:40Speaker 2: and is now on the screen in January is blowing
- 4:44Speaker 2: my mind. What is the turnaround time typically on these
- 4:47Speaker 2: Hallmark movies?
- 4:48Speaker 1: Is it that short? Well, a lot of the movies
- 4:51Speaker 1: we were watching in December were filmed in August and September,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and they're just churning those out, which is why you'll
- 4:58Speaker 1: notice if you use the Hallmark Movie checklist app when
- 5:03Speaker 1: they first launched their countdown to Christmas movie listing. You know,
- 5:07Speaker 1: if you look right now at the New Year New
- 5:10Speaker 1: Movies lineup, only three of the five have actual images
- 5:17Speaker 1: of the actors oh and two have like stock photos.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Oh one is like a really blown out image of
- 5:25Speaker 1: a candle, and one is a mug in front of
- 5:27Speaker 1: snow like they have not even added in the official
- 5:31Speaker 1: movie photos. So I do think these are what's the
- 5:34Speaker 1: word I'm looking for? I think these are just constantly
- 5:37Speaker 1: in production. I think the turnaround time is quick, and
- 5:40Speaker 1: it's so fast that they don't even have time to
- 5:43Speaker 1: get the actual images up on the app.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Wow, that is crazy.
- 5:46Speaker 1: The same was true of Countdown to Christmas. If you
- 5:48Speaker 1: opened the listing of Countdown to Christmas, there were many
- 5:52Speaker 1: stock photos when they first launched, and throughout the season
- 5:57Speaker 1: the images of the actors in the movies. The official
- 5:59Speaker 1: images were at it. So I think they're just flying
- 6:01Speaker 1: by the seat of their pants.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Wow, that's not to okay. Now listen to this note.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I also found this morning, so actress Alexa Pennavega was
- 6:12Speaker 2: pregnant while shooting this movie.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Ah, that makes so much sense because they gave her
- 6:17Speaker 1: that big puffy jacket. But what doesn't make sense is
- 6:22Speaker 1: she's always in dance clothes.
- 6:24Speaker 2: She must not have been very pregnant. No, not very pregnant.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Apparently she's due sometime this summer.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So I thought she was okay, So she was not
- 6:31Speaker 1: showing be She was in like leggings and leotards.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yes, but she had like a sweater wrap on in
- 6:38Speaker 2: one of them. I mean, I don't think she was
- 6:42Speaker 2: very pregnant, but still I don't think she was like
- 6:45Speaker 2: she wasn't running around in like barely there leotards. You know.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah, perhaps they filmed some of those dance scenes earlier
- 6:54Speaker 1: on and then that like opening scene where she's in
- 6:56Speaker 1: like the big flowy sweater is one of the later
- 6:59Speaker 1: filmed scenes. Interesting. Well, yeah, fun fact about Luke McFarlane.
- 7:04Speaker 1: He is a new United States citizen and voted in
- 7:07Speaker 1: his first election last year.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I saw on his Instagram this morning. Is he a Canadian? Yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I believe so.
- 7:13Speaker 1: He's also a twin Oh and he has a twin sister.
- 7:18Speaker 1: And he is well known for his appearance in many,
- 7:23Speaker 1: many Hallmark movies. He's definitely a Hallmark movie dude.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Well, I know he was also in the show Brothers
- 7:30Speaker 2: and Sisters, though I don't remember who he played in
- 7:34Speaker 2: that show. I looked at his acting credits. He has
- 7:37Speaker 2: like some shows outside of the Hallmark universe, but I
- 7:41Speaker 2: can't nothing that Like. I was like, oh, yeah, I
- 7:45Speaker 2: remember him. But he's nice on the eyes and I
- 7:48Speaker 2: think he's a good actor.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I thought both of the actors, the lead actors in
- 7:53Speaker 1: this movie were very pretty, very nice to look at.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Alexa Penevega is I wouldn't say best known for her
- 7:59Speaker 1: spik Kids appearances.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Oh I saw that she was in that, But who
- 8:04Speaker 2: did she play in Spy Kids? A child?
- 8:08Speaker 1: Oh, I did not know that.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to go back and look. That's hilarious.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Now I do know that she is married to some
- 8:17Speaker 2: musician from a band called Big Time Rush, which I
- 8:21Speaker 2: don't know anything.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Oh so, Big Time Rush is a Disney Channel band.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I think, hold on, Big Time Rush is a Nickelodeon band.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Excuse me.
- 8:33Speaker 1: So they were formed in two thousand and nine and
- 8:35Speaker 1: they starred in the television series. Big Time Rush signed
- 8:39Speaker 1: a record deal with Nick Records simultaneously with the TV series,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and then they were eventually signed to Columbia Records, so
- 8:47Speaker 1: they kind of have that child star going on.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Okay, hold on, I am looking up images from Oh
- 8:55Speaker 2: my god, she was that kid spy.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Right, I mean it it was two thousand and one,
- 9:01Speaker 1: the first Spy Kids, which is twenty years ago, so
- 9:03Speaker 1: you know she was ten or twelve at the time.
- 9:06Speaker 2: But yes, Spy Kids feels like it was like three
- 9:08Speaker 2: years ago. To me. That's blowing my mind. I actually
- 9:11Speaker 2: thought she looks a little bit like Alyssa Milano.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think that's a fair comparison, and she's
- 9:18Speaker 1: in several Hallmarks style movies, but I do think she
- 9:23Speaker 1: is perhaps best known for spy Kids. All Right, Now, overall,
- 9:28Speaker 1: first impression of this movie, did you enjoy it? Yes?
- 9:30Speaker 2: I enjoyed it quite a bit, as did I.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I found it very pleasant to watch, and in fact,
- 9:37Speaker 1: normally I'm writing multiple notes about my problems with the movie,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and I don't have a lot of those. I have
- 9:44Speaker 1: a couple of things to say, but I just found
- 9:46Speaker 1: it really enjoyable to watch, and I think it was also.
- 9:49Speaker 2: A really nice break from Christmas content. I think so too.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So here's my question. When we talked about the Christmas
- 9:57Speaker 2: movies and the first movie that came out in the
- 10:00Speaker 2: Countdown to Christmas series, you said was kind of a
- 10:03Speaker 2: dud that they don't put like the big name, big
- 10:06Speaker 2: movies until closer to the Christmas holiday. Now does the
- 10:10Speaker 2: same apply for this kind of content, the New Year,
- 10:14Speaker 2: New movie content?
- 10:16Speaker 1: I would say no, because at this point they're just
- 10:19Speaker 1: trying to hold on to their Christmas viewership. They get
- 10:23Speaker 1: a huge surge of viewers for the holidays, and I
- 10:25Speaker 1: think it peters out. So I think at this point
- 10:28Speaker 1: they're trying to do whatever they can. I think a
- 10:30Speaker 1: lot of their non Christmas movies are great, and I
- 10:34Speaker 1: don't think placement. I don't think it matters so much.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Now that we're into January.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I'll tell you it was appointment TV for us.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Again.
- 10:41Speaker 2: My husband and I sat and watched.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It on the couch together. I really enjoyed it. I
- 10:49Speaker 1: really really enjoyed it.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I would stop and watch it again if I saw
- 10:52Speaker 2: it on the guide, Yeah, I would do.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I would have it on in the background. I enjoyed
- 10:57Speaker 1: it that it was very visually pay to watch. Her
- 11:01Speaker 1: house was beautiful, obviously, the people in it were beautiful.
- 11:06Speaker 1: One thing I really liked is that the dancers in
- 11:09Speaker 1: her dance studio were actually dancing, and they were enjoyable
- 11:14Speaker 1: to watch. I liked that they showed, you know, all
- 11:18Speaker 1: the way through the dance. It wasn't like they were
- 11:19Speaker 1: just doing real close ups on a dancer's face to
- 11:22Speaker 1: give you the impression that they were dancing, which I
- 11:25Speaker 1: have something to say about the hockey.
- 11:26Speaker 2: But.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I really enjoyed that. And they showed their final dance performance,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and sometimes that's the kind of thing that you'll just
- 11:34Speaker 1: maybe see them like standing off stage, or you'll see
- 11:37Speaker 1: a couple little bits of it. But I really thought
- 11:39Speaker 1: that they did a good job showing the dance and
- 11:42Speaker 1: making it a part of the show. And if she's
- 11:44Speaker 1: a dance teacher and the central part of the plot
- 11:47Speaker 1: is this big dance performance, I thought it was great
- 11:50Speaker 1: that they had them actually dancing in the movie.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Okay, So with that said, let's talk about what we
- 11:55Speaker 2: liked with a shot Taking a shot at Love. So
- 11:58Speaker 2: you liked that the dances were actually dancing. I really
- 12:03Speaker 2: really enjoyed that boy, Felix.
- 12:05Speaker 1: He was a dancer.
- 12:07Speaker 2: I thought he was a great dancer. I thought he
- 12:10Speaker 2: was a good actor. And what I liked best is
- 12:13Speaker 2: that he was passionate about dancing but also really wanted
- 12:18Speaker 2: to learn how to play almost says soccer. He almost
- 12:21Speaker 2: he really wanted to learn how to play hockey, and
- 12:24Speaker 2: that these adults rallied around him to, you know, show
- 12:27Speaker 2: him he could do both. I loved it, loved it,
- 12:30Speaker 2: loved it.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I loved when Felix shows up for the first time
- 12:34Speaker 1: and he recognizes Coop and Ryan walks over to do
- 12:38Speaker 1: and he's like, don't tell anybody who saw and Felix
- 12:40Speaker 1: is like, why what's wrong with dance? And I really
- 12:42Speaker 1: like that he, you know, owned the fact that he
- 12:45Speaker 1: liked dance in addition to liking hockey. And one thing
- 12:50Speaker 1: I was watching the Instagram review of a fellow Hallmark fan.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Her account is Hallmarks the Spot, and one thing she
- 12:59Speaker 1: said was that there were points in the movie where
- 13:03Speaker 1: I think we were supposed to believe that Luke McFarlane's character,
- 13:06Speaker 1: Ryan Cooper was a bit of a bad guy, right, Like,
- 13:08Speaker 1: there were multiple scenes and he couldn't commit to it, Like,
- 13:12Speaker 1: he was just such a good guy. There was no
- 13:14Speaker 1: point at which you felt annoyed with him, because even
- 13:17Speaker 1: in the moments where.
- 13:18Speaker 2: He was kind of supposed.
- 13:19Speaker 1: To be annoying, he turned it around so quickly that
- 13:23Speaker 1: you just couldn't help but like him.
- 13:24Speaker 2: So I enjoyed that scene, right So, like when he
- 13:28Speaker 2: gets to Jenna's house and he mistakenly thinks that's his accommodations.
- 13:34Speaker 2: You know, he did come off as a little put
- 13:36Speaker 2: out when he had to go to like the guest
- 13:38Speaker 2: house or whatever, but he was still likable and that's
- 13:42Speaker 2: what I enjoyed about his character. I agree talking about
- 13:46Speaker 2: Ryan and his like bad boy persona, he was so
- 13:50Speaker 2: nice to the kids, Like he was nice to the
- 13:53Speaker 2: kids that were waiting for him outside the hockey rink
- 13:55Speaker 2: signing autographs. He was nice to the ballet kids I
- 13:59Speaker 2: just studied. Was a super nice guy.
- 14:01Speaker 1: In general.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I thought that they had a decent amount of chemistry
- 14:08Speaker 2: between the two. What did you think about the chemistry
- 14:10Speaker 2: between the two of them. I believed their chemistry. I
- 14:13Speaker 2: enjoyed them. I was rooting for them as a couple.
- 14:16Speaker 1: And what I liked is that they clearly had a
- 14:20Speaker 1: connection throughout. And it wasn't the sort of movie where
- 14:25Speaker 1: their enemies throughout the movie and then they come together
- 14:27Speaker 1: in the last five minutes. They clearly liked each other.
- 14:29Speaker 1: They clearly enjoyed each other's company. And I like when
- 14:32Speaker 1: the movies give us that glimpse because I don't believe
- 14:35Speaker 1: it when you've got enemy, enemy, enemy enemy, Oh we've
- 14:38Speaker 1: got to wrap it up, all of a sudden, we're
- 14:39Speaker 1: in love. I liked that they showed us their chemistry,
- 14:42Speaker 1: and they showed us their connection. And of course, you know,
- 14:45Speaker 1: they had roadblocks in their way, which I don't actually
- 14:48Speaker 1: think we're roadblocks at all, But we can talk about
- 14:50Speaker 1: that later. But I feel like they built up their
- 14:53Speaker 1: connection throughout the movie.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yeah. I was a little bit worried in the kind
- 14:57Speaker 2: of beginning scenes when she was like annoyed with him
- 14:59Speaker 2: or what, and I thought, Oh, no, are we doing this?
- 15:02Speaker 2: But I agreed they kind of like put that to
- 15:05Speaker 2: the side and they had some cute banter. They really
- 15:07Speaker 2: liked each other's company. They started hanging out together more.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I believed it, which then leads me to at the
- 15:16Speaker 2: very end when he comes out to spoiler alert to
- 15:20Speaker 2: Jenna's showcase and he comes out to like introduce her
- 15:24Speaker 2: or the dance or whatever, and I thought, I really
- 15:28Speaker 2: like this guy. He's like humbled and charismatic. I just
- 15:32Speaker 2: loved him. I loved him so much.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Well, my favorite line is when he shows up and
- 15:37Speaker 1: before he goes on stage and he said, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I need to talk to you, and she says, I
- 15:42Speaker 1: thought we said everything that needed to be said, and
- 15:44Speaker 1: he said, we didn't say anything that needed to be said,
- 15:47Speaker 1: And I thought that was such a perfect call out
- 15:50Speaker 1: of the fact that they never had a conversation about
- 15:53Speaker 1: how easy it would have been for them to continue
- 15:55Speaker 1: this relationship. You know, she just assumes that him going
- 15:58Speaker 1: back to his hockey team means that everything is over,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and he points out a hockey's not year round, and
- 16:04Speaker 1: be you know I can travel, I can. You know
- 16:07Speaker 1: you don't. Connecticut and New York are not that far apart,
- 16:10Speaker 1: so we can still continue this relationship. I loved that line. Yeah,
- 16:15Speaker 1: me too. Okay.
- 16:16Speaker 2: I have a couple few little scenes. They probably didn't
- 16:19Speaker 2: mean anything to you, but they were so cute to me.
- 16:23Speaker 2: One was when they went to ice skating together. It
- 16:26Speaker 2: was just the two of them, and I thought, oh,
- 16:28Speaker 2: we're gonna do a little ice dancing. In my favorite
- 16:33Speaker 2: episode of Beverly Hills nine o two and zero, when
- 16:36Speaker 2: Brandon meets the she an ice skater I don't remember.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I think she's an ice skater and he plays hockey
- 16:41Speaker 2: and they go and do a little time of your
- 16:43Speaker 2: life out on them oh, on the ice rink, and
- 16:46Speaker 2: I was like, this is it, this is what's happening.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And it wasn't.
- 16:50Speaker 2: They didn't do any ice dancing. They actually did a
- 16:52Speaker 2: cute little like playing around and shooting pucks and stuff
- 16:55Speaker 2: like that. Totally loved it, Totally thought that it was
- 16:58Speaker 2: an adorable date. Also really liked that they talked about
- 17:02Speaker 2: getting coffee in like their little town center or whatever,
- 17:05Speaker 2: that there was coffee carts all over town center, and
- 17:08Speaker 2: I was like, man, I really wish we had something
- 17:10Speaker 2: like that, a little coffee cart action, Like I could
- 17:13Speaker 2: just walk down to my local center and grab a
- 17:16Speaker 2: coffee at a coffee cart and make me want to
- 17:19Speaker 2: hang out.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Do you remember that part at all? I do. I
- 17:23Speaker 1: didn't feel that.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I mean, there's coffee on every corner. I guess the
- 17:26Speaker 2: cart part is it's so much more charming.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It is charming.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, I know, But how much time do you
- 17:35Speaker 2: spend just walking around enjoying, like seeing what there is
- 17:40Speaker 2: to see?
- 17:41Speaker 1: Which is to say that we shouldn't. I just I
- 17:43Speaker 1: just don't.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Well, you and I don't live in small towns. And
- 17:47Speaker 2: I think if we lived in a small town that
- 17:48Speaker 2: had like a one main street with no chain coffee places,
- 17:53Speaker 2: that sure, if we lived in Stars Hollow or.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Eggs, Connecticut exactly, we would.
- 17:59Speaker 2: My husband even say, you want to start a coffee
- 18:01Speaker 2: cart business, and I was like, yes, I.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Do, let's do. A husband, once we moved to a
- 18:05Speaker 1: small town, started an ice cream shop. So you guys
- 18:06Speaker 1: can learn the coffee card. We'll run the ice cream
- 18:08Speaker 1: shop and.
- 18:09Speaker 2: We'll just have our own Hallmark movie. I freaking love it.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Let's do it. Okay.
- 18:14Speaker 2: One final scene that I thought was so adorable is
- 18:18Speaker 2: when she took him to task on the air hockey game.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Yes, it's cute. I liked that. I loved it.
- 18:27Speaker 2: It just that that stuff just supported like the fun, hangout,
- 18:32Speaker 2: banter relationship that they were building.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Agree, agreed it loved it.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Is there anything else that you liked about this movie?
- 18:40Speaker 2: I think that covers it.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Okay, I have one last thing. Tell me.
- 18:45Speaker 2: The thing I don't love about the Christmas movies is
- 18:49Speaker 2: like the holiday hijiinks. This right, there's no hijinks. No,
- 18:54Speaker 2: there were no hyjikes.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I love it. I loved it. Yeah. It felt like
- 18:58Speaker 1: real life. Yes, like that opening scene where she's just
- 19:01Speaker 1: like making coffee and it's not a hot chocolate with
- 19:04Speaker 1: ninety seven marshmallows, and it's not right. It's just her
- 19:07Speaker 1: life obviously her life was So you saw that Hooga
- 19:11Speaker 1: Farms sign? Did you care it?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah? Yes, I have something that I'm going to put
- 19:16Speaker 2: in the digital moment.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Okay. Well it's I bumped on it right in the
- 19:21Speaker 1: very beginning, and my in my brain. I thought, Oh,
- 19:24Speaker 1: it's like a home goods Like that's the kind of
- 19:26Speaker 1: thing you would find at home goods. And I honestly
- 19:28Speaker 1: bet that that's where they found it in, like a
- 19:30Speaker 1: home decor. Like that's cute, right, And then she ties
- 19:34Speaker 1: it back in. She's like, oh, it's actually my family's
- 19:36Speaker 1: farm day and I was like, no, it's not. But
- 19:39Speaker 1: I did like that, you know, it was just a
- 19:42Speaker 1: very shot of real life. Even though her friend comes in.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It's like, your life is like a coffee commercial. That
- 19:49Speaker 1: was funny, daring out the window in your cozy clothes.
- 19:53Speaker 1: But yes, I appreciate that the holidays have been wiped
- 19:57Speaker 1: from the movies.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yes, that's funny you say that. I can appreciate that
- 20:02Speaker 2: the holidays have been wiped from the movies.
- 20:04Speaker 1: You know, I am so done twenty twenty holidays. Bye,
- 20:07Speaker 1: I just okay.
- 20:10Speaker 2: So let's move on to a news segment for us.
- 20:15Speaker 2: It's called uh oh.
- 20:18Speaker 3: So.
- 20:18Speaker 2: In this segment, we are just looking at the potential
- 20:23Speaker 2: roadblocks to move the story forward, and the first one
- 20:28Speaker 2: that I came up with was we got Jenna, who
- 20:31Speaker 2: lives in Connecticut, and Ryan, who is currently playing for
- 20:34Speaker 2: the New York Rangers. They live in different states, but
- 20:39Speaker 2: uh oh, can they not be in a relationship?
- 20:42Speaker 1: Can they not be in a long distance relationship? There
- 20:44Speaker 1: are roads. I am rereading the Babysitters Club series with
- 20:49Speaker 1: my daughter, and for those in the know, the Baby
- 20:52Speaker 1: Sitters Club takes place in the fictional town of Stonybrook, Connecticut,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and Stacy is from New York and often goes back
- 21:00Speaker 1: to New York for her doctor appointments and they drive
- 21:03Speaker 1: there for the weekend. So even the casual Babysitters Club
- 21:08Speaker 1: reader knows that it is a quick drive. Yeah, is it?
- 21:11Speaker 2: I just And here's the other thing too, is like,
- 21:14Speaker 2: he plays for this professional team, fine, but he doesn't
- 21:17Speaker 2: have to live in New York in the off season.
- 21:20Speaker 2: He can come back to Avon, Connecticut and live with
- 21:22Speaker 2: her there. He's traveling most of the time.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Yeah. They don't even point out that he doesn't have
- 21:28Speaker 1: to live there until the final scene of them maybe.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Oh, that was a little bit frustrated to me. Okay,
- 21:33Speaker 2: I have another uh oh, Okay, there's a mysterious person
- 21:37Speaker 2: taking video of Ryan as he's out on the ice.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Uh oh. He gets called back to the team before
- 21:43Speaker 2: Jenna's big dance finale.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I feel like they built that up to
- 21:49Speaker 1: be this big nefarious thing, right, Like they show the
- 21:52Speaker 1: guy filming and I was like, what's gonna happen here?
- 21:54Speaker 2: Because what's wrong with what he's doing? Right?
- 21:56Speaker 1: And then he gets called up and they can't even
- 21:59Speaker 1: have a conversation where she says like, hey, I'll call you.
- 22:02Speaker 1: It's just over, like she's done, like the chemistry's gone,
- 22:06Speaker 1: it's over there. I don't This is my biggest complain
- 22:09Speaker 1: about movies like this is when they don't have the
- 22:12Speaker 1: conversation that needs to be had, you know. Okay, so
- 22:16Speaker 1: we don't have it all figured out. I'll call you tomorrow, like, hey,
- 22:19Speaker 1: maybe we can get together this weekend. Like to her,
- 22:21Speaker 1: she's like it's over. And that's why I do appreciate
- 22:25Speaker 1: he was like, we didn't say anything that needed to
- 22:27Speaker 1: be said. Yeah, totally. Okay. Next, let's talk about things
- 22:31Speaker 1: we wished were different about this movie. And I know
- 22:34Speaker 1: you have a big list, So why don't you go first, Wendy.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Okay, it's a big list, but it mostly has to
- 22:39Speaker 2: do with Jenna's storyline. Yes, it was a little all
- 22:43Speaker 2: over the place without much explanation. So first, that the
- 22:47Speaker 2: studio competition. She's losing students to a companion studio. There's
- 22:54Speaker 2: like some shady moms happening, But like that doesn't pan
- 22:58Speaker 2: out to be like anything.
- 23:00Speaker 1: What the thing I didn't like about that was just
- 23:03Speaker 1: as she was a bad business woman in that sense.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I don't know a single dance studio that doesn't have
- 23:07Speaker 1: a competitive team aspect to it. That's where they make
- 23:10Speaker 1: their big money. And you can still be the competitive
- 23:15Speaker 1: dance teacher who teaches for the love of dance. You know,
- 23:19Speaker 1: they did their performance in the end, and those kids
- 23:21Speaker 1: still enjoyed dance. You can still instill the love of
- 23:25Speaker 1: dance while also having the competition aspect. And also, if
- 23:29Speaker 1: that's the one thing that's going to keep you in business,
- 23:31Speaker 1: sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 23:34Speaker 2: You need to pivot if that's what's going to keep
- 23:37Speaker 2: you in business.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Absolutely, And I think she gets lucky here because she
- 23:42Speaker 1: gets saved because she doesn't end up having to do
- 23:45Speaker 1: that because she becomes like, oh, I'm going to be
- 23:47Speaker 1: a sports rehabber but is or she's going to you know,
- 23:51Speaker 1: teach these classes for athletes, which okay, fine, but really,
- 23:55Speaker 1: if you think realistically, I'm going to teach a agility
- 23:59Speaker 1: for ass athletes class.
- 24:00Speaker 2: At my dance studio. What one a week?
- 24:02Speaker 1: I mean, what's the demand for that really going to be?
- 24:05Speaker 1: He's not going to be the one thing that saves
- 24:08Speaker 1: your studio. Obviously, you can't be rehabbing athletes across the
- 24:12Speaker 1: country who don't live anywhere near you. You still got
- 24:14Speaker 1: to pivot. Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Well, I think she thought, oh, I got this connection
- 24:18Speaker 2: with my cousin who's a sports manager, and now I
- 24:21Speaker 2: can get all the athletes to come my way to
- 24:24Speaker 2: be a cash cow for her. I don't know, it
- 24:26Speaker 2: was just thought well thought out. I don't run a
- 24:30Speaker 2: competitive studio, lady, right, get the money where the money is.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Here's my other problem. She was having problems paying the
- 24:38Speaker 2: rent at her studio. And big and beautiful, right, and
- 24:43Speaker 2: she's got this gorgeous barn out in the back where
- 24:46Speaker 2: he COO does tell her at one point, why don't
- 24:49Speaker 2: you convert this to a studio back here? And she
- 24:52Speaker 2: then goes off to talk about how they tried at
- 24:55Speaker 2: one time to make it a cider tasting room, but
- 24:59Speaker 2: it's too old and historic and blah blah blah blah, blah, whatever, Look,
- 25:03Speaker 2: there are ways around this. She could have converted that
- 25:06Speaker 2: barn into a studio. But my point is she went
- 25:10Speaker 2: on talking forever about her dad's dream to make this
- 25:14Speaker 2: cider tasting area and the barn, which made me kind
- 25:18Speaker 2: of believe, like, is she moving that way? Is she
- 25:21Speaker 2: going to do that in the future, And then that
- 25:23Speaker 2: just was like nothing.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I did feel like the farm storyline was one that
- 25:27Speaker 1: we didn't get enough information about. They kind of like
- 25:31Speaker 1: threw it in every once in a while to give
- 25:33Speaker 1: her a little bit of backstory, but I didn't fully understand.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I was like, oh, wait, this is on farmland, but
- 25:38Speaker 1: you live in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I
- 25:40Speaker 1: didn't fully understand what was going on there.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Okay, And my final missed opportunity in the Jenna storyline,
- 25:47Speaker 2: she never fully really tells the story about why she
- 25:53Speaker 2: left the ballet company. It has something to do with
- 25:56Speaker 2: like a relationship gone wrong with her boss what.
- 26:00Speaker 1: So she was right in a relationship with the lead
- 26:04Speaker 1: guy who was in charge. She gets injured and while
- 26:07Speaker 1: she's out rehabbing, they replace her, and then he ends
- 26:11Speaker 1: up in a relationship with a new prima ballerina. So
- 26:15Speaker 1: I mean, that's kind of the whole story, like that
- 26:17Speaker 1: she was no longer of service to him. He was
- 26:20Speaker 1: over her, is the way I understood it. When she's
- 26:23Speaker 1: out of the spotlight, don't care anymore?
- 26:27Speaker 2: Why is she hanging her hat on some dude? Aren't
- 26:30Speaker 2: there a bunch of other ballet companies that you can
- 26:32Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know anything about ballet, but isn't
- 26:35Speaker 2: there another company you can go work for?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:38Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe she felt disillusioned by the fact
- 26:40Speaker 1: that they dropped her like a bad habit when she
- 26:43Speaker 1: was injured. And the interesting thing was her cousin in
- 26:46Speaker 1: the very beginning, He's like, this is the same injury
- 26:48Speaker 1: that you came back from. You made a comeback. But
- 26:51Speaker 1: did she really actually ever make the comeback? She rehabbed
- 26:55Speaker 1: and then opens a dance studio, which is fine. She's
- 26:59Speaker 1: clearly good at her job and enjoys it very much.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So everything else on my list falls into the category
- 27:04Speaker 1: of did you see that?
- 27:06Speaker 2: And I have some things to talk about? This is
- 27:09Speaker 2: my most fun category that we do here on the recaps.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I have quite a few. So let's see if we
- 27:17Speaker 2: have some overlappers, go ahead.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Okay. My first is there's no way that's him in
- 27:22Speaker 1: the opening hockey scene, because there's this guy is beautifully
- 27:27Speaker 1: skating down the ice and then the up close shots
- 27:29Speaker 1: are like right in his face. They found some bearded
- 27:34Speaker 1: hockey player who resembled Luke McFarland to do all of
- 27:38Speaker 1: the hockey shots, and then they got real tie on
- 27:40Speaker 1: his face when it was time for him to speak.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I do like believe that was him. They're like, Luke,
- 27:46Speaker 2: sell it with your face that you're playing here out
- 27:48Speaker 2: on nice.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And then later in the movie, when he takes Felix skating,
- 27:53Speaker 1: he has the friend, who's clearly a very good skater,
- 27:57Speaker 1: get out there and teach him, and then he.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Kind of like hops on the ice for a quick
- 28:00Speaker 2: little lap. When Jene gism the all clear.
- 28:03Speaker 1: You're all clear for it. I didn't believe.
- 28:08Speaker 2: I didn't believe that.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Also, I was like, oh, how convenient that he has
- 28:11Speaker 1: to stay off the ice right now because he's not
- 28:15Speaker 1: a good skater.
- 28:17Speaker 2: But he says, speaking of his character, so he plays
- 28:22Speaker 2: for the New York Rangers, which is a real hockey team,
- 28:26Speaker 2: and did you notice how much merch he wore throughout
- 28:31Speaker 2: the entire movie. Now, listen, you know that we have
- 28:36Speaker 2: a professional sports athlete in my family. Yes, never have
- 28:40Speaker 2: I seen this man wear anything from his team in
- 28:45Speaker 2: thirty years.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Well was he being paid for it to be in
- 28:49Speaker 1: a movie? Because I could imagine that if the Rangers
- 28:52Speaker 1: sponsored this movie, there must have been some sponsorship, otherwise
- 28:57Speaker 1: they would have done link. You know it's the Polar
- 28:59Speaker 1: Bears because there's so much New York Rangers placement. Constantly,
- 29:06Speaker 1: he constantly has a sweatshirt on or a jacket on,
- 29:09Speaker 1: and obviously the jersey. They mentioned the team name over
- 29:13Speaker 1: and over again. I fully believe there was an exchange
- 29:16Speaker 1: of funds.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Yeah, there had to have been, because in my experience
- 29:19Speaker 2: with professional athletes, they want to keep everything on the
- 29:22Speaker 2: down low.
- 29:23Speaker 1: They don't want to be.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Going to pick up a hot sider where in their
- 29:28Speaker 2: New York has app whatever.
- 29:31Speaker 1: So next for me is, look, I know he's like
- 29:34Speaker 1: a big fancy hockey player, used to fancy accommodations. But
- 29:37Speaker 1: I didn't believe when he showed up at Jenna's house
- 29:42Speaker 1: that he assumed that the house was where he was staying.
- 29:44Speaker 1: He had been told he was staying in a guest house.
- 29:47Speaker 1: There's clearly He's like, oh, that's a garage. When she
- 29:50Speaker 1: points out his mistake, it doesn't look like a garage.
- 29:52Speaker 1: It looks like a guest house. Yeah, it's beautifully painted
- 29:58Speaker 1: to match the house. The key is in the wrong place.
- 30:00Speaker 1: He walks in. He's clearly in someone's home. I did
- 30:04Speaker 1: not buy that for a second. And then she comes
- 30:07Speaker 1: home and he's shocked that she's walked into his home.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Didn't buy it.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I have so many problems with that scene because, first
- 30:14Speaker 2: of all, she tells him the key is under the pot, right,
- 30:17Speaker 2: So when he gets to her home, he lifts up
- 30:21Speaker 2: the mat and there's a key under the mat. Who
- 30:24Speaker 2: on God's green Earth leaves a key to your home
- 30:28Speaker 2: under the mat at all times? Maybe in Avon, Connecticut
- 30:33Speaker 2: you do, Yeah, if you guys are familiar with Avon Connecticut.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I want to know what the safety is there, or like,
- 30:38Speaker 2: what's the crime there? Because if I can just leave
- 30:40Speaker 2: your key under the mat for any old Joe to
- 30:43Speaker 2: walk on in, okay? But why wouldn't he have stayed
- 30:46Speaker 2: in a hotel?
- 30:47Speaker 1: That's what I didn't understand the very beginning, In all caps,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I wrote, why is he staying in her guest house.
- 30:52Speaker 1: And why does she even have a guest house because
- 30:54Speaker 1: all of these people we saw the same thing and
- 30:56Speaker 1: never kiss a man in a Christmas letter. She has
- 30:58Speaker 1: a guest house that she doesn't rent out like she
- 31:01Speaker 1: uses for her own studio. But you're telling me there's
- 31:04Speaker 1: not a hotel in this town. There's not an airbnb.
- 31:07Speaker 1: He has to stay in the home of the beautiful
- 31:10Speaker 1: ballet dancer.
- 31:12Speaker 2: They did say that she rents it out during the
- 31:14Speaker 2: summer or whatever, so it's like a perfect place for
- 31:17Speaker 2: him to stay. But still, like a professional athlete is
- 31:20Speaker 2: going to stay in a hotel with very nice accommodations.
- 31:24Speaker 2: He's not staying in some ladies, right.
- 31:26Speaker 1: This is acrasal relationship. They're not gonna even though you
- 31:31Speaker 1: know the cousin, they're still not going to have you
- 31:33Speaker 1: stay in her home. She's an employee. She's rehabbing the photo.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Talk to me, I don't remember a photo when they're
- 31:42Speaker 1: in the barn. Oh, he sees the photos of her
- 31:46Speaker 1: and he goes, wait a minute, as if all of
- 31:49Speaker 1: a sudden he's just realizing that she was a ballotin
- 31:51Speaker 1: at which he knew. Whips out this photo he has
- 31:53Speaker 1: on his phone, which there's like six people in it.
- 31:55Speaker 1: It's not a giant group, and they just happen to
- 31:57Speaker 1: be in a photo together. It didn't occur to him
- 32:00Speaker 1: going to work with this ballerina, he's staying in her home.
- 32:05Speaker 1: It's not until he sees a photo of her that
- 32:07Speaker 1: it occurs to him. By the way, we've already met
- 32:10Speaker 1: and we have a photo together that I'm carrying around
- 32:12Speaker 1: on my phone with my ex girlfriend.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And I said to my husband, I go, oh, he
- 32:18Speaker 2: just so happens to pull that up on his phone,
- 32:20Speaker 2: like how old is this photo? And how is it
- 32:23Speaker 2: still on your phone?
- 32:25Speaker 1: He would have a had to scroll forever to find
- 32:28Speaker 1: that photo was right at the beginning of his relationship
- 32:31Speaker 1: with his ex. That was one of the most beautiful
- 32:34Speaker 1: dances I've ever seen. Give me a break. I mean, no,
- 32:37Speaker 1: it was not necessary to the story at all. Nope,
- 32:39Speaker 1: didn't believe it.
- 32:41Speaker 2: I agree, Okay. The other thing I didn't believe is
- 32:44Speaker 2: that Jenna's ballet shoes were perfectly pristine pink. Every ballet
- 32:51Speaker 2: dancer that I've ever seen in one of my best
- 32:53Speaker 2: friends growing up was a ballet dancer.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Her shoes are a wreck. They are worn in.
- 32:59Speaker 2: And so I was annoyed by like there was no
- 33:02Speaker 2: reality in the condition.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Of her ballet shoes. Yes, how about the ice storm?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Okay, so many thoughts on this ice storm. First of all,
- 33:14Speaker 2: if you don't know, we live in southern California, we
- 33:16Speaker 2: have very few rainstorms, let alone ice storms.
- 33:20Speaker 1: You might hail for thirty seconds.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but the power goes out, and she calls her
- 33:25Speaker 2: friend in this dangerous ice storm to come on over
- 33:30Speaker 2: because it's game night, Like, do they live next door? Like,
- 33:33Speaker 2: don't send your friends out to come over during this
- 33:37Speaker 2: dangerous ice storm. But then they do come over and
- 33:40Speaker 2: they're dry as a bone, they're not wet at all.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Well, and they wear She says, are you okay to
- 33:50Speaker 1: walk home? And they go, oh, yeah, we have our crampons.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Oh, thank you for bringing that up, because I said
- 34:00Speaker 3: to my husband, I said, what a What is a crampon?
- 34:04Speaker 1: The exact definition is a metal plate with spikes fixed
- 34:08Speaker 1: to a boot for walking on ice or rock climbing. Now,
- 34:12Speaker 1: I do not think Please listeners from states where you
- 34:16Speaker 1: have weather correct me if I am wrong, But I
- 34:18Speaker 1: do not think these are meant for walking down the
- 34:22Speaker 1: street in an ice storm. They're for like rock climbing
- 34:25Speaker 1: or mountain climbing, not like go into your friend's house
- 34:28Speaker 1: for a game night. Did you know what a crampon
- 34:32Speaker 1: was before they said it? I knew it was for
- 34:34Speaker 1: mountain climbing. I couldn't I but I could not have
- 34:37Speaker 1: given you the exact definition. But oh my god, that's
- 34:40Speaker 1: it's funny in a nutshell. A crampon is a type
- 34:43Speaker 1: of spiky traction device that attaches to your footwear to
- 34:47Speaker 1: help provide grip and stability while walking or climbing on
- 34:50Speaker 1: ice and snow. Ice climbing, glacier crossing, and snow hiking,
- 34:55Speaker 1: they all require crampons. I mean these images, they're like
- 35:00Speaker 1: the dooty spikes. Just not for one second. It's like
- 35:03Speaker 1: snow tires for your feet. Not for one second do
- 35:07Speaker 1: I believe that people wear them just to walk from
- 35:11Speaker 1: house to house on an ice storm. I think you
- 35:13Speaker 1: stay your ass home and then it's okay for them
- 35:17Speaker 1: to walk home. But she's like, you couldn't possibly walk
- 35:19Speaker 1: across ther here's.
- 35:22Speaker 2: The okay, let us take this one step further. Would
- 35:24Speaker 2: they have the crampons on their feet in her home?
- 35:28Speaker 2: Are they putting them on out on the porch in
- 35:32Speaker 2: the weather, like it makes no sense to me.
- 35:35Speaker 1: No, you had mentioned.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Earlier houga, the Danish word for cozy, so you know
- 35:43Speaker 2: that I am married to a Dane. And we had
- 35:47Speaker 2: a good laugh about it because she went on talking
- 35:50Speaker 2: about how it's like a Danish No no, no, no no no,
- 35:52Speaker 2: no no no. Her name is Jenna Wagner. Wagner is
- 35:56Speaker 2: not a Danish name. Now, sure, the Danes could been
- 36:00Speaker 2: like on her mom's side, and then she married a Wagner,
- 36:04Speaker 2: but like, why not just make her a Nielsen or
- 36:07Speaker 2: an Oulsen or a whatever, not Jenna Wagner.
- 36:10Speaker 1: There is a great constinuity question that I cannot answer
- 36:13Speaker 1: for you.
- 36:14Speaker 2: I don't think they thought that all the way through,
- 36:16Speaker 2: and they didn't they need to hire someone like me
- 36:18Speaker 2: to I'm telling.
- 36:20Speaker 1: You what happened was they found the sign in the
- 36:23Speaker 1: home goods. They thought this is perfect for one of
- 36:27Speaker 1: our sets, and then they wrote the story backwards from that.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I guarantee, if the writers are listening, confirm my suspicion.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I mean, their sign could.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Have said live, laugh, love or whatever you know, go
- 36:39Speaker 2: after your passion, or it is my mission to find
- 36:43Speaker 2: this sign now all.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Right, My last comment, and you may have more, is
- 36:48Speaker 1: about the diversity in this movie, or perhaps the lack thereof. Okay,
- 36:53Speaker 1: we discussed it in the Countdown to Christmas movies and
- 36:55Speaker 1: some movies did a better job than others, and we
- 36:58Speaker 1: have said that Hamewark appears to be trying, although they
- 37:02Speaker 1: are not there yet. And I would say this movie
- 37:04Speaker 1: fails the diversity test. There's one friend of color. She
- 37:08Speaker 1: has her best friend who is black, whose husband is
- 37:11Speaker 1: even white and super duper white. Like I would say,
- 37:16Speaker 1: this is a fail on the diversity scade.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I was a little disappointed that we didn't see
- 37:21Speaker 2: any other people of color.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Dancers are all white, the kids in the movie all
- 37:27Speaker 1: of his hockey teammates, although hockey is a real white sport.
- 37:30Speaker 1: So yeah, that's true, but that's a fail for me.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully we see a little bit more diversity going forward.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Not in the lead actors.
- 37:41Speaker 2: I'll tell you that, not in the next five movies, correct,
- 37:45Speaker 2: that's for sure. I'm just going to end this one
- 37:48Speaker 2: little note here in this section of did you see that?
- 37:52Speaker 2: And it has to do with her friend's husband, the
- 37:56Speaker 2: real white guy, Matt, that we were talking about At
- 38:00Speaker 2: one point, he says that he almost was drafted to
- 38:04Speaker 2: the NHL, but he decided not to go that route
- 38:07Speaker 2: because his dad died and he needed to help save
- 38:10Speaker 2: the family business. Why are you not going then to
- 38:13Speaker 2: the NHL and getting that NHL money to save your
- 38:17Speaker 2: dad's business.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Right, This is not his dad was a real he's
- 38:21Speaker 1: a real estate attorney. This is not a store that
- 38:23Speaker 1: needs to be run. If the father passes away, he
- 38:27Speaker 1: just stops being a real estate There's no assets. I mean,
- 38:31Speaker 1: perhaps he needs the income, but you're right, if it's
- 38:34Speaker 1: the income that they.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Need, go to the NHL.
- 38:37Speaker 1: That is a storyline that did not hold up for me.
- 38:39Speaker 1: And I feel like if they wanted it to be
- 38:41Speaker 1: I had to go into the family business. They needed
- 38:44Speaker 1: a better storyline than real estate attorney.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:48Speaker 2: But then, on top of it, his wife was not
- 38:50Speaker 2: aware of this because she said early on in the
- 38:54Speaker 2: movie like how she was really trying to get her
- 38:56Speaker 2: husband to get to watch some hockey with her and
- 38:59Speaker 2: this and that whatever, And then it turns out that
- 39:02Speaker 2: he was once almost a professional hockey player, and this
- 39:06Speaker 2: is the reason why he can't watch hockey anymore because
- 39:09Speaker 2: it's too hard for him.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Like she like what she doesn't make it sound like
- 39:13Speaker 1: he has this history with hockey and that's why he
- 39:16Speaker 1: doesn't watch it.
- 39:16Speaker 2: It's just like he doesn't like it. I'm the hockey
- 39:19Speaker 2: fan in the house, and it turns out he has
- 39:21Speaker 2: quite the history.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And yes, wait, I got one. There, I got one.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Okay, okay, I'm sorry, And I know this one is
- 39:30Speaker 2: why you didn't even bring it up.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Blows my mind.
- 39:32Speaker 2: But when the power went out and they were falling
- 39:35Speaker 2: asleep on the couch and they had a million candles burning,
- 39:39Speaker 2: You're falling asleep with a million candles. Yes, romantic looking.
- 39:43Speaker 1: But not real.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Yeah, not safe at all. So I was apparently bothered
- 39:50Speaker 2: more by.
- 39:51Speaker 3: That than you.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Well, all of that being said, let's rank this movie.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Are we doing four stars? We're sticking with our four stars.
- 39:57Speaker 2: We're sticking to four stars. This best Hallmark movie we've
- 40:01Speaker 2: ever seen is a four star. For me, I have
- 40:04Speaker 2: a really hard time rating this because I've only seen
- 40:07Speaker 2: Christmas movies, so I don't know how to like place this,
- 40:11Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? Right?
- 40:13Speaker 1: So I'll go first, just to give you something to
- 40:16Speaker 1: think about. So, okay, I think the only four star
- 40:19Speaker 1: movie we had was the twelve dates of Christmas? Am
- 40:22Speaker 1: I correct? And I am like you, hesitant to give
- 40:28Speaker 1: a movie four stars because I haven't seen the rest
- 40:31Speaker 1: of the New Year New movies. But for me, this
- 40:34Speaker 1: is a solid three and a half stars. Great movie.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Would absolutely watch again in spite of all of our complaints.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Really enjoyed it. I didn't find those things distracting while
- 40:43Speaker 1: I was watching. They were just fun to note and discuss.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Three and a half stars. I'm gonna agree with you,
- 40:49Speaker 1: oh right, a half stars? Yeah, yeah. Thank you so

- 41:18Speaker 1: She's as cute as can be. I'm very much looking
- 41:20Speaker 1: forward to that. And Michael Rady is the actor in
