- 0:00How do you attract authentic relationships?
- 0:03And obviously I'm talking about relationships in general.
- 0:06And of course, around this time of the year, because of Valentine's Day, people might be more focused on intimate relationships.
- 0:14But I think this will apply in various different forms of relationships.
- 0:21So for any relationship, relatedness to happen, for a relationship to exist, it has to be built on certain values like trust, for example.
- 0:33And trust, meaning you are putting your trust in another person or people based on what you have learned about them, what you understand of them.
- 0:45and the learning and understanding of them perhaps comes from what you've been able to glean,
- 0:52what you've been able to learn from them, right? What they have said, what they have done,
- 0:57what they have shown of themselves, which comes to the topic of authenticity. To build,
- 1:05you know, levels of authenticity or relationships which are built on authenticity,
- 1:12it really just has to come from, I say just, but it has to come from
- 1:18authenticity from yourself first. So I was actually talking to someone else today around
- 1:24this topic of authenticity and being authentic, underneath being authentic, right? If we start to
- 1:31look on, let's say, inner work, right? Perspective on this, which is my area of speciality, on the
- 1:39level of story, let's say, what causes us to be authentic or not authentic? And there's obviously
- 1:49many books written on this. There's ones that are very direct about it, right? Like the fuck it
- 1:56theory. And I think it's quite a deeply spiritual topic, but just the topic itself of fuck it
- 2:04doesn't mean screw them, I don't care about them.
- 2:07It's because I care about them that I'm going to risk showing the truth of who I am.
- 2:18Therefore, authenticity.
- 2:20Because I care about them, because I love them, because I'm more invested in the long term,
- 2:25that I'm going to express the truth of what I feel and who I am.
- 2:30so that they can see me without the filters.
- 2:35And therefore, the relationship, the relatedness that is built on what they get to learn about me
- 2:43and hopefully what I get to learn about them is built on a certain level of honesty and truth,
- 2:50like authenticity.
- 2:52So to attract relationships that are real or authentic,
- 3:00as I always come back to,
- 3:02it comes back to us, right?
- 3:04Like comes back to the self.
- 3:06And if you want someone to be real,
- 3:09you have to go first.
- 3:11Take the lead, be the leader in your life.
- 3:14And you can also lead in the relationship,
- 3:16whether it's masculine or feminine,
- 3:18doesn't matter.
- 3:19It's a dance of masculine, feminine.
- 3:21One can lead.
- 3:22It's like a tango, right?
- 3:23You just, one can lead the other.
- 3:25And as you take the lead,
- 3:28with honesty, with authenticity. And a relationship that is built on authenticity, on truth,
- 3:36right? Or truth of what you feel, what you think, what you understand, opens up for a conversation,
- 3:45right? Opens up for a dialogue. Just because you're being authentic doesn't mean they need
- 3:50to like it or accept it. Sometimes they may not, right? It might actually, certain things might
- 3:58And it's not about pleasing them, which is the opposite of being real and authentic. By being authentic, you are saying, I care about you, I love you enough that I'm going to tell the truth or show the truth of who I am so that you can respond. Your ability to respond then is based on the truth that I'm showing you, the honesty that I'm bringing to the table, the authenticity that I'm bringing to the table.
- 4:23Therefore, that relatedness that is built over time, that forms into a relationship,
- 4:30intimate or non-intimate, is based on, is built on the foundation of being authentic.
- 4:37And hopefully both parties are doing that.
- 4:40Therefore, if you are bringing authenticity, most likely you would demand that back or
- 4:45require that back from the other person or people.
- 4:49Therefore, there's a certain level of authenticity in your relationships.
- 4:52when your relationships around you are authentic,
- 4:56perhaps it's a reflection of you being real with yourself first.
- 5:01So one of the deepest,
- 5:03probably the second deepest relationship we would have in our lives
- 5:07is relationship to self.
- 5:09Probably the most,
- 5:10like the deepest relationship we'll have in ourselves,
- 5:13in our life, I would say,
- 5:15in my opinion, is our connection to source,
- 5:18the divine universe, love, life, God,
- 5:20whatever word works for you.
- 5:22I would say that comes first.
- 5:24And then it's like relatedness to ourself.
- 5:26When we bring a level of authenticity or a complete level of authenticity to all our
- 5:33relationships, the relationship magnifies whatever is going on within.
- 5:40If there's love, it magnifies love.
- 5:43If there's honesty, it magnifies that.
- 5:45If there's camaraderie, it magnifies that.
- 5:48If there's support, it magnifies that.
- 5:50The reason we get in relationship is because by sharing with someone or some people, we get to magnify what we feel and experience.
- 5:59And by sharing it, we get to relive it and therefore they get to live it with us as well.
- 6:04So the relationship then is built on the foundation and one of the foundations is realness, is authenticity.
- 6:13It comes from actually embracing your own qualities.
- 6:17So who are you?
- 6:19Comes back to that question.
- 6:21It's a big question.
- 6:23And who do you believe yourself to be?
- 6:25What are your values?
- 6:26What's important to you?
- 6:29Your thoughts, your opinions, and your feelings.
- 6:32And what is the standard you take for in this life?
- 6:36Like all the aspects that form, who are you?
- 6:39And actually embracing that first.
- 6:43Sometimes we want others to accept us before we've accepted ourselves.
- 6:50And a lot of times that doesn't go so well.
- 6:52It works better if we start by embracing ourselves first, like loving ourselves first,
- 6:58before expecting others to accept or love or embrace what we present them.
- 7:05The opposite of authentic is pleasing or being in the pleaser.
- 7:09So the next part, the second part to that would be to look at where the pleaser is showing up in your life, right?
- 7:17Like the pleaser within.
- 7:21And I don't agree for some time in my life, part of my journey was like fight everything, like fighting myself.
- 7:28That's what the fight outside reflects.
- 7:30I don't agree with fighting it.
- 7:32You don't need to go and fight it or destroy it.
- 7:34There's enough fight in the world.
- 7:35We don't need more of that.
- 7:36And the fight outside starts with the fight inside anyway.
- 7:39I think by getting rid of the fight inside, we get a more peaceful world.
- 7:43But the pleaser doesn't need to be destroyed.
- 7:45It doesn't need to be killed.
- 7:46It doesn't need to be gotten rid of.
- 7:49If anything, the pleaser wants love.
- 7:53That's why the pleaser is doing the pleasing.
- 7:56Right?
- 7:57So go in and love your pleaser.
- 8:01Give them so much love that they're outpouring in abundance of love
- 8:09more. Therefore, you love and accept that pleaser within. And therefore then, wherever you find
- 8:19you are doing the pleasing, the pleaser kind of shows up in your life, start to pay attention to
- 8:25each of these areas, these relationships in your life and how the pleaser kind of shows up. Because
- 8:31where the pleaser is, you cannot be authentic and the pleaser at the same time. That's what I've
- 8:39You're either being real or you're pleasing.
- 8:43And pleasing wasn't so pleasant for me to learn this about my own inner pleaser
- 8:49some time ago and a mentor of mine said to this,
- 8:52pleasing someone is manipulating them to like me.
- 8:57Right?
- 8:58So it's the opposite of the intention of the pleaser.
- 9:00When I first heard that, I was like, what?
- 9:02But that's the opposite of what I'm trying to do.
- 9:05And yeah, but that's what you're doing.
- 9:09someone else. You don't say you, but I'm talking about the pattern of the pleaser.
- 9:13It's manipulating someone else to like them, to give them the love, to give them the acceptance,
- 9:19to give them the thing that they're hoping to get. So pretty sure we all have a degree of
- 9:24pleaser within us. Therefore, we've got some work to do. So love the pleaser within. And
- 9:30if anything heals better than anything else is the energy of love. So why not just give the
- 9:37please the love and heal it, right?
- 9:39So it doesn't run your life anymore in any area.
- 9:44And then get really clear on the kinds of relationships that you want to attract.
- 9:49So if you're being real within yourself and you're being real with others, you're being
- 9:53authentic, and perhaps one of the things that's important to you is authenticity, is realness,
- 9:59right?
- 9:59So you would also require that back or maybe demand that back from everyone that you have
- 10:05around you.
- 10:07And it could mean that over time, don't go and fire your friends right now, but over time, it might mean that you would choose perhaps how close you have different people.
- 10:16And some people you want to or should or could have really close to you.
- 10:23So more in your inner circles.
- 10:26And some people need to be demoted, right?
- 10:30Like to outer circles.
- 10:32And some people need to not even be in your outer circles.
- 10:37to be not in any circle. It doesn't mean you hate them. They may or may not be horrible people,
- 10:43but it's just that it's boundaries. And it comes from self-love, which can sound to some people
- 10:52like arrogance, but arrogance is very different to self-love. From place of self-love and self-worth,
- 10:59you get to choose who you have in which kind of imaginary circle around you. The ones that are
- 11:07in your innermost circles
- 11:08might be the ones that you know
- 11:10you can be completely real with
- 11:12and completely trust.
- 11:13And for me,
- 11:15the innermost circle in my life
- 11:16is just me and source, right?
- 11:19Divine God, whatever works for you.
- 11:21And then there's like the humans
- 11:23because human love is conditional.
- 11:25But that's just me.
- 11:26I'm not saying you need to follow that.
- 11:27Embracing who is you,
- 11:28what's important to you and who you are.
- 11:31Healing, the pleaser, number two.
- 11:33And number three,
- 11:34getting really clear on your intentions.
- 11:37Your intentions for the kind of relationships,
- 11:40intimate and non-intimate,
- 11:42that you want to have in your life.
- 11:43And what is it based on?
- 11:45Is it based on authenticity?
- 11:46Is it based on truth?
- 11:48What is it based on?
- 11:50And then deciding which of the circles
- 11:53you would have them in, in your life.
- 11:55So that's my message around
- 11:57attracting authentic relationships.
- 11:59There's being true, being a true self,
- 12:02and being courageous enough to show that.
- 12:05One of the ways to heal the pleaser
- 12:07is to actually start showing the truth of who you are,
- 12:12your thoughts, your opinions,
- 12:15the things that you're feeling
- 12:16and starting to bring that and share that
- 12:18in your relationships
- 12:19and risking not being liked short-term
- 12:24because you're not,
- 12:26you'd rather than settle for the short-term connection,
- 12:30you'd rather go for the long-term depth of love that is available or possible in the relationship
- 12:36it's a longer deeper commitment so therefore there's a third part that i shared which is like
- 12:41what is your intention what do you want in your relationship what's the kind of the quality the
- 12:46frequency of relationships that you want in your life
