- 0:09Speaker 1: rigid Welcome to patri Get's Unfiltered. She wanted to we
- 0:18Speaker 1: we're gonna play some Sarah McLaughlin music for but we
- 0:21Speaker 1: couldn't get the rights to it in time. So yeah, yeah,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I'm annoyed about Adam chapter Just what was how many
- 0:29Speaker 1: times is he gonna do that? Not the trade? He
- 0:32Speaker 1: thought it was the time that I can start making
- 0:34Speaker 1: fun of Fred. It looks like he has important people
- 0:36Speaker 1: with him, so we want do we know the show
- 0:38Speaker 1: shows doing a lot better today without Fred dragging us downs.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Mike is like a little frazzle tailor. We're gonna, we're gonna,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we're gonna look at this email and we're gonna go inside.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We're gonna go outside. But why don't we do that
- 0:48Speaker 1: In a few minutes, we'll give away a T shirt
- 0:50Speaker 1: with some kind of peu trivia. About five minutes, we'll
- 0:52Speaker 1: get some calls and some emails. Done. Well, my apologize
- 0:55Speaker 1: to Rage because he was actually just calling in to
- 0:57Speaker 1: get a jump on Catch twenty two. He don't want
- 0:59Speaker 1: to talk to us Paul. Hopefully you guys can get
- 1:03Speaker 1: this is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome
- 1:10Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Gilette Stadium,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and uh, locally, we're waiting for some snow right. Yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 1: it's weird. Yeah, the middle of the state is getting
- 1:21Speaker 1: bombed and we're just raining here. Yeah, but supposed to
- 1:24Speaker 1: turn at some point, so that's what we're waiting for. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: getting ready for that. Um, but we're also waiting for good.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Oh no, we're waiting for the Patriots Day moves here
- 1:35Speaker 1: and now. As is usually the case except for a
- 1:39Speaker 1: couple of years ago, it's Patriots fans saying, what are
- 1:42Speaker 1: they doing? We're getting passed by uh. And that's what
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'm hearing from a lot of Patriots fans today. The
- 1:49Speaker 1: latest um shoot a fall was Mobby Meyers going to
- 1:54Speaker 1: the Raiders for I think a lot less than we thought,
- 1:58Speaker 1: right that he would get. But I thought twelve, Yeah,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I got think eleven. Yeah that sounds funny. I had
- 2:04Speaker 1: to knock, I had to hit my headphones. Um. Yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 1: it's like the Millennium Falcon. I thought I thought a
- 2:11Speaker 1: little less. Yeah, I agree with you, Freddie, Mike Reese
- 2:13Speaker 1: was throwing out fifteen sixteen. I didn't see that. I mean,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I saw Mike Reese's report. I didn't see him getting that,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I should say, but he ended up getting around eleven
- 2:22Speaker 1: a year, and boy, I think that's reasonable. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: it's a it's a complicated one. And I think we
- 2:29Speaker 1: all knew going into this offseason that this would be
- 2:31Speaker 1: a hard decision because, on one hand, you have an
- 2:34Speaker 1: internally developed player who's done all the right stuff in
- 2:37Speaker 1: the locker room, who has produced no matter who he's
- 2:41Speaker 1: played with, and you know, we all love him, and
- 2:44Speaker 1: that's hard to resign yourself for Why can't we sign
- 2:47Speaker 1: a player like that and retain a player like that?
- 2:49Speaker 1: That's what we're looking for, guys that are leaders that
- 2:52Speaker 1: you know, have proven to do it no matter who
- 2:55Speaker 1: they're playing with. Um, but I think we all kind
- 2:57Speaker 1: of acknowledge that if they really want to get to
- 3:00Speaker 1: where they want to go, I'm not sure that, you know,
- 3:03Speaker 1: re upping Jacoby for three more years is gonna is
- 3:07Speaker 1: gonna do it? You know? And but wait, how's it
- 3:09Speaker 1: going to hurt them? Though? What do you mean? Like,
- 3:11Speaker 1: how would it hurt to have Jacoby Myers, right, No, No,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I know, and you can't. You can't say it'll hurt.
- 3:16Speaker 1: But I also think that is they can't all be
- 3:19Speaker 1: Jamar Chases. You gotta have some Jacoby Myers is on it.
- 3:22Speaker 1: If you just flip Nelson Agalore for another receiver and
- 3:25Speaker 1: bring back the same four starters and one new guy,
- 3:28Speaker 1: maybe it's a rookie. Is that moving the needle enough
- 3:31Speaker 1: for anybody? So? I mean, I just feel like, are
- 3:33Speaker 1: we taking a half step back right now? And it's
- 3:35Speaker 1: really hard within this moment because they haven't done anything externally.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And I feel great about getting rid of Jonah Smith's contract,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and I feel great about retaining Jonathan Jones. But I
- 3:43Speaker 1: think right now we're in this little in between period
- 3:45Speaker 1: where you don't know what the plan is, and in
- 3:47Speaker 1: ways it feels like they're maybe setting the stage to
- 3:50Speaker 1: do something significant, or they are setting the stage to
- 3:53Speaker 1: do more of what they usually do, which is kind
- 3:55Speaker 1: of wait till the second week of free agency. Inside
- 3:57Speaker 1: a right, it's Tamara, it's Evan, it's Paul me, it's
- 4:00Speaker 1: a full house, it's Matt in the booth um, and
- 4:03Speaker 1: we're here for the next two hours. Does anyone have
- 4:06Speaker 1: the rundown and who we've signed so far and who
- 4:10Speaker 1: was left? Yep, we have that. So who they've signed resigned, resigned?
- 4:18Speaker 1: We've reportedly resigned, reportedly Matthew Slayter, Conor McDermott, James Fern's,
- 4:23Speaker 1: Ray Kwa McMillan, Jonathan Jones, and Carl Davis. Okay, they
- 4:26Speaker 1: have relinquished, Jake Bailey, Devin obviously retired, Johnny Smith in
- 4:31Speaker 1: the trade and then this morning with Jacoby okay, then
- 4:34Speaker 1: the others left over, Joe Cardona, Cody Davis, Damien Harris,
- 4:37Speaker 1: mac Wilson, Aghalore, Win, Jewan Williams, Miles Bryant, RFA. We'll
- 4:41Speaker 1: find out about him tomorrow if they tag him, if
- 4:43Speaker 1: they do nothing. Again, he's an undrafted guy, so it's
- 4:46Speaker 1: a little bit complicated. You don't want to probably give
- 4:48Speaker 1: him a second round tender and pay him that much money.
- 4:50Speaker 1: So I'm not sure what's going to happen there. Yep.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So how are we feeling sad? You're sad because of Jacoby. Yeah,
- 4:59Speaker 1: it it's like kind of like what you said Fred
- 5:02Speaker 1: earlier when Mike was talking. It's like, I don't think
- 5:05Speaker 1: that keeping him would have hurt anything Like, I still
- 5:08Speaker 1: would have gone out and got another wide receiver for sure.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean because hoping that you know, they do something
- 5:13Speaker 1: with Agare. But I think keeping him would be great.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I think Mac needs that familiarity because that's his go
- 5:19Speaker 1: to guy. But I do think you could have gone
- 5:22Speaker 1: out and got you know, another great wide receiver as well. Yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: you could have kind of had your cake and eat
- 5:26Speaker 1: it too. I don't say signing Myers at eleven or
- 5:29Speaker 1: even twelve precludes you from getting somebody else, you know. Yeah,
- 5:33Speaker 1: And that's why I'm with these guys in terms of
- 5:35Speaker 1: I'm willing to be patient to wait and see what
- 5:37Speaker 1: they do because I feel like you, I don't want
- 5:41Speaker 1: Jacobe Myers to be my number one receiver, yeah, for
- 5:44Speaker 1: a fourth year in a row, but I would have
- 5:47Speaker 1: liked to have him be my number three if I
- 5:49Speaker 1: can get guys that are ye, that are on top.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But I don't really have a lot of faith in that. Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 1: that's that's where I am. It's like, if you let
- 5:57Speaker 1: Kobe grow and then go sign someone like Braxton Burrios,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I might flip table. So yeah, it's it's just I
- 6:03Speaker 1: guess we'll have to wait and see. Yeah. I mean,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and there's there's not a lot out there and free
- 6:06Speaker 1: agency that you can legitimately say this guy would be
- 6:10Speaker 1: an upgrade on Jacoby Myers. I mean it says, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: you're you're looking at let's go to trade like Hopkins trade,
- 6:18Speaker 1: Let's go Jerry Judy and then Evans crush on on
- 6:22Speaker 1: Jackson Smith and Jigba in the draft. At least I
- 6:25Speaker 1: could see that, Yeah, I could see a plan there.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You know. It doesn't mean it's gonna work. Like that's
- 6:30Speaker 1: the thing. Everybody's like, oh, oh, that that's gonna fix.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, that's that's a young guy
- 6:36Speaker 1: from Denver who's kind of been okay, nothing more, nothing
- 6:40Speaker 1: less in a rookie. But at least I say, okay,
- 6:44Speaker 1: so you have a guy out of the draft with
- 6:46Speaker 1: a high pick, a guy out of the draft last
- 6:49Speaker 1: year with a high pick, a guy in his fourth
- 6:52Speaker 1: year who was a first round pick and very highly
- 6:54Speaker 1: thought of. I'm hoping that that's the nucleus of my
- 6:58Speaker 1: wide receiver corps for the short and I can I
- 7:01Speaker 1: can grow with with those guys in my young quarterback
- 7:04Speaker 1: with Bill O'Brien, who we all agree has an idea
- 7:07Speaker 1: of what he's doing. So here we go that I
- 7:10Speaker 1: could be sold on that. Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 7:12Speaker 1: speak out of both sides of my mouth, as I
- 7:14Speaker 1: tend you often do with Jacoby perfectly finally letting Jacoby walk.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm perfectly fine with it, because I think the definition
- 7:23Speaker 1: of insanity is trying to do the same thing over
- 7:25Speaker 1: and over again and expecting different results. So with Jacobe,
- 7:29Speaker 1: with Bill O'Brien backs, well, but I'm gonna push back
- 7:32Speaker 1: on that, that's fine. What's what's what's wrong with getting
- 7:36Speaker 1: eight hundred yards out of him? Again? Because I want
- 7:40Speaker 1: twelve hundred yards out of the guy that's playing that
- 7:42Speaker 1: spot in the offense. Well, but you can have somebody
- 7:45Speaker 1: else and that. See all this stuff, it's always like, well,
- 7:49Speaker 1: it's it's that or nothing, But why can't it be
- 7:53Speaker 1: that and something else? Because I know how Bill O'Brien
- 7:55Speaker 1: wants to build his offense, and he wants to build
- 7:57Speaker 1: it through the middle of the field. So now you're
- 7:59Speaker 1: looking at he's gonna have overlap with guys that you're
- 8:03Speaker 1: going to bring into upgrade that position. Like look, I understand,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and I agree with Paul that you shouldn't pigeonhole yourself
- 8:10Speaker 1: to only doing it one way and that maybe it's
- 8:13Speaker 1: an outside guy, maybe it's a tight end, maybe it's
- 8:15Speaker 1: a slot, maybe it's whatever. But with Bill Brian back
- 8:18Speaker 1: in the mix, I know that he's gonna want to
- 8:20Speaker 1: run the offense through the middle of the field. And
- 8:22Speaker 1: if Jacoby Myers comes back at eleven million per and
- 8:26Speaker 1: he's already has the institutional knowledge, he's already mac Jones's guy,
- 8:30Speaker 1: he's gonna get one hundred and twenty targets again, and
- 8:32Speaker 1: that the wealth is not going to be spread around
- 8:35Speaker 1: the way that you want. I don't. I think that's
- 8:37Speaker 1: a big assumption. I don't how is that a big
- 8:40Speaker 1: assumption like that if he comes back, he's gonna be
- 8:42Speaker 1: in the same role and he's gonna play a high
- 8:44Speaker 1: volume role in your offense. Right, I'm hoping he comes back,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and like Paul said, he's like our number three receiver.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I think that that's easy to say in practice, but
- 8:54Speaker 1: this is about roles in the offense, right, So he's
- 8:57Speaker 1: your Z receiver, your Z slot receiver, which we know
- 9:01Speaker 1: in the system that Bill O'Brien's going to come in
- 9:03Speaker 1: here and run because he's ran it. They've ran in
- 9:05Speaker 1: here for twenty five years. Who's the guy that's going
- 9:07Speaker 1: to get the most targets. It's Troy Brown, It's Dion Branch,
- 9:10Speaker 1: It's Wes Welker, It's Julian Edelman, it's Jacobe Myers, and
- 9:14Speaker 1: we just continue to pass that torch, which is fine.
- 9:18Speaker 1: But to me, a guy like you mentioned Jerry Judy,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you mentioned Jackson Smith and Jigba. I would even put
- 9:25Speaker 1: Zay Flowers his name in the conversation. Those guys have
- 9:29Speaker 1: higher upside. They have higher ability to not just go
- 9:33Speaker 1: for eighty for eight hundred, but maybe we're going eighty
- 9:36Speaker 1: for fourteen hundred, right, maybe we're going eighty for twelve
- 9:40Speaker 1: hundred and ten touchdowns and have some upside there to
- 9:44Speaker 1: get this offense to the next level. I think bringing
- 9:47Speaker 1: back Jacoby is asking for it to be more of
- 9:50Speaker 1: the same, especially with what Mike said. You're you have
- 9:54Speaker 1: four guys now coming back from the offense last year,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and so maybe you add a rookie or you add
- 10:00Speaker 1: somebody else into that mix. But that's a lot of
- 10:02Speaker 1: snaps that you're already kind of committed to guys are
- 10:05Speaker 1: just bringing everybody back. And I think the part that
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna contradict myself a little bit with is we
- 10:11Speaker 1: did the mock draft last week, and the bottom line
- 10:15Speaker 1: is is they have a ton of needs and to
- 10:18Speaker 1: push all of those needs into I think this is
- 10:19Speaker 1: where people's frustration is, is that through the veteran market
- 10:23Speaker 1: they have to address some holes. They have to fill
- 10:26Speaker 1: some holes because you can't fill them all with draft picks.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Like they have eleven picks, but five of them are
- 10:31Speaker 1: after the sixth round, right, They have four in the
- 10:33Speaker 1: sixth round and they have the one in the seventh round.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So this is not a premium pick that that's an
- 10:38Speaker 1: end of the draft type of picks. So eventually in
- 10:40Speaker 1: the veteran market, you have to add some people that
- 10:42Speaker 1: are going to be immediate starters for you because you
- 10:44Speaker 1: can't draft them all. Yeah. Yeah, that's one reason why
- 10:48Speaker 1: I was a little surprised, you said, like, how do
- 10:50Speaker 1: we feel, you know, so far with the start of things.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I was a little surprised that they weren't a little
- 10:55Speaker 1: bit more active in the tackle the market, and I
- 10:58Speaker 1: know they were. They were reportedly involved with one of
- 11:02Speaker 1: the guys you signed, Andre Dillard, who because that didn't
- 11:05Speaker 1: go through Honestly, by the way, was a disaster in Philadelphia.
- 11:10Speaker 1: But there were a lot of There was sort of
- 11:12Speaker 1: a ground swell over the last week of people thinking
- 11:15Speaker 1: that this is a guy who's going to attract some
- 11:16Speaker 1: attention because they felt like he was making some progress,
- 11:20Speaker 1: you know, at the end of his Eagles tenure, and
- 11:22Speaker 1: that he would be a guy that someone could you know,
- 11:26Speaker 1: wasn't going to be Mike McGlinchey Orlando Brown. Money you
- 11:29Speaker 1: could get him from much cheaper, and he did go
- 11:31Speaker 1: for much cheaper, and the Patriots were evidently interested. I
- 11:34Speaker 1: was surprised they didn't jump on a guy like that,
- 11:36Speaker 1: or Calvin Beecham or you know, who knows. Maybe they'll
- 11:39Speaker 1: still get a Caleb McGarry, who I think could be
- 11:42Speaker 1: higher end in terms of money than those guys. But
- 11:45Speaker 1: to Evans point, I can't draft a tackle to step
- 11:48Speaker 1: in on day one, and draft a wide receiver to
- 11:50Speaker 1: step in on day one, and draft a cornerback to
- 11:53Speaker 1: step in. I'm not gonna be able to get all
- 11:55Speaker 1: of those things in the draft now. So it would
- 11:58Speaker 1: be the greatest draft ever, right, I mean, you're not
- 12:01Speaker 1: going to get the seventy four Steelers draft and get
- 12:03Speaker 1: four Hall of Famers, So you know, based on what
- 12:07Speaker 1: they ended with right now, this is March fourteenth, long
- 12:10Speaker 1: way to go, no panning. Okay, we've been on these
- 12:12Speaker 1: show as a million times, Fred, you and I. Oh, right,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but they lost the best, you know, one of the
- 12:17Speaker 1: best members of the secondary and they lost the best
- 12:20Speaker 1: wide receiver. They haven't replaced it with any anything so far.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Like they've resigned a bunch of their own guys that
- 12:27Speaker 1: went Eat nine, right, so you're not any better. So
- 12:30Speaker 1: right now, it's not good. But it's March fourteenth, the
- 12:34Speaker 1: league you didn't even start yet. I'm not like, I'm
- 12:37Speaker 1: not worried about it. There's a lot of things that
- 12:38Speaker 1: are going to happen, ye too. Yeah, And that's and
- 12:41Speaker 1: that was like part of what I was laughing at
- 12:42Speaker 1: yesterday was like, on one hand, you're unloading the guy
- 12:45Speaker 1: that just two years ago, everybody who's doing black flips
- 12:48Speaker 1: to give them a four year, fifty million dollar deal,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and now you're so excited to get rid of them.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But in the same breath, people are like do something,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and it's like, don't you see like this is risky,
- 12:56Speaker 1: Like you got to manage this. You can't just throw money.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I mean here we are shipping John Smith. Amazed me.
- 13:01Speaker 1: The reaction to the Jar Smith thing like they had
- 13:03Speaker 1: done something. They trade. They traded the guy that was
- 13:06Speaker 1: a disaster and people are like, oh, I can't believe
- 13:09Speaker 1: they found a trade partner. I can. They gave him away.
- 13:13Speaker 1: They're eating the money. He got a seventh throw pick.
- 13:15Speaker 1: That's a disaster. The last two years were a disaster
- 13:17Speaker 1: for that pick. Yeah, that's nothing to be like sort
- 13:23Speaker 1: of trumpeting. But it can be two separate things, right,
- 13:25Speaker 1: Like it's two separate conversations. Last the last the signing
- 13:29Speaker 1: was a bust of a signing. But also to get
- 13:32Speaker 1: out of that contract is a good thing for the
- 13:35Speaker 1: team because recognizing that you are that it wasn't it
- 13:40Speaker 1: working out and walking away from it is better than
- 13:43Speaker 1: bringing him back next year and trying again. So wipe
- 13:47Speaker 1: your hands of it and move on. I agree with
- 13:49Speaker 1: you that it was a terrible signing, but that doesn't
- 13:52Speaker 1: mean that it was a terrible trade. Oh and I
- 13:55Speaker 1: don't think it was a terrible trade. It was a
- 13:56Speaker 1: nothing trade, Like you gave up nothing, and got nothing. Well,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I think people were just okay, you know, they were
- 14:02Speaker 1: just happy with you know, recognizing the failure and and
- 14:08Speaker 1: happy that they moved on from it, you know. Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: And I mean and smaller part of it is just
- 14:14Speaker 1: taking that energy away from everybody fitching and moaning about him,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you know. But it opens up another need. Now now
- 14:20Speaker 1: you talk about type, Well, apparently the pipeline is open
- 14:23Speaker 1: with the Raiders. What about a trade for Waller? What
- 14:26Speaker 1: would you give for him? Oh? Yeah, I mean, pauls
- 14:31Speaker 1: looking at me like, I'm nuts. I heard he's being shopped. Okay,
- 14:35Speaker 1: so you're gonna give the first round pick? What I said? Second,
- 14:39Speaker 1: what would you give for him? I don't know what
- 14:41Speaker 1: would you give for Yeah? It is well like if
- 14:45Speaker 1: you wanted to say, like, if he's being shopped, somebody's
- 14:47Speaker 1: gonna give something for him, I would look at it
- 14:50Speaker 1: and say, Hunter Renfro has got a roster bonus due
- 14:53Speaker 1: on March seventeenth. They just signed a slot receiver. Do
- 14:56Speaker 1: they need two slot receivers. Maybe they're gonna let him go.
- 15:00Speaker 1: They're gonna shop him for a sixth round pick and
- 15:03Speaker 1: you take him. Now, I have no interest, as you know,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and how much are you gonna give Hunter Renfro, Well,
- 15:08Speaker 1: he's he's under contract, but how much is he gonna earn?
- 15:12Speaker 1: About the same as Jacoby? Is he better for what
- 15:16Speaker 1: they want? I think they're very much the same. I
- 15:18Speaker 1: think he's quicker. You think he's quick, Yeah, I think
- 15:22Speaker 1: a little bigger. That's probably like they're definitely more durable.
- 15:25Speaker 1: They're different, but I think the end result is probably similar.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I probably would lean. Is it fair to say that
- 15:31Speaker 1: for what they need, the Raiders like Myers better? I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I think it's interesting. I don't know, I don't know what.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Having having watched these guys last summer at Vegas, I
- 15:40Speaker 1: thought I thought Renfro was perfect compliment to that. He
- 15:43Speaker 1: was also he was also the other place. I mean,
- 15:45Speaker 1: this isn't Raiders unfiltered. But the other piece of the
- 15:48Speaker 1: pie there is that they just signed Garoppolo, right, so
- 15:52Speaker 1: they're gonna you know, Garoppolo to me is good at
- 15:54Speaker 1: that quick offense. So maybe you keep step drop get
- 15:57Speaker 1: rid of the bus, like, yeah, is he to replace
- 16:00Speaker 1: Renfro or do they look at it like Edelman Amndola? Right?
- 16:03Speaker 1: I think that's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking more of that. Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Plus it's it's because I think Renfres a nice Amandola
- 16:10Speaker 1: is like a nice solid comfert Renfroe I think, and
- 16:14Speaker 1: those two players were so similar. I like the fact
- 16:16Speaker 1: that you maybe have some options to play with Jacoby's
- 16:18Speaker 1: a little bit bigger. Renfro is a little bit quicker.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You could you know, experiment with that a little bit.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I could see it. I mean, Josh Jacobs Waller and
- 16:26Speaker 1: obviously the big dog in Adams. Yeah, and that you've
- 16:28Speaker 1: got the making of a good offer. And that's what
- 16:30Speaker 1: Evan pointed out upstairs, which is so true. It's like
- 16:32Speaker 1: it's a good move for Jacoby. He knows he's gonna
- 16:34Speaker 1: draw way down on the coverage depth chart when when
- 16:37Speaker 1: they go you know, when they line up, So it's
- 16:39Speaker 1: he's gonna have some opportunities against some lower rent cornerbacks
- 16:42Speaker 1: to to to produce I just you know, I just
- 16:44Speaker 1: wonder if they're seeing him as that every down slot,
- 16:47Speaker 1: is it gonna go with rent? Right? You know, that's
- 16:48Speaker 1: that's what I would take him. I mean I think
- 16:52Speaker 1: he's Nope, weapon them, No, no, not in this draft.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I can I can draft a Yeah, I'll take Waller
- 16:59Speaker 1: and draft end, and then I've upgraded my two tights.
- 17:02Speaker 1: That's what. That's the reason why I'm excited about the
- 17:05Speaker 1: Johnny Smith Traders because I hope it means they're gonna
- 17:07Speaker 1: draft one of these tight ends. Yeah. Yeah, I mean
- 17:09Speaker 1: this draft is just crazy a tight end. And I
- 17:12Speaker 1: know that all of them are going to work out,
- 17:13Speaker 1: because that's just the way the nature of the beast.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But scare me, a lot of them I think are
- 17:17Speaker 1: going to work out. I mean, we got the one
- 17:21Speaker 1: he's up upstairs. You take one in the first round, No,
- 17:25Speaker 1: because it's so deep that I would take one on
- 17:27Speaker 1: day two. Just saying a lot. Because Evan was way
- 17:29Speaker 1: into Michael Mayer when he was he was I always, uh,
- 17:33Speaker 1: look at Barth will tell you I have recency bias.
- 17:36Speaker 1: So if I watched if I watched your film yesterday,
- 17:38Speaker 1: you're my favorite player. So that that's another unreliable we
- 17:43Speaker 1: should listen to you. You say, that's funny, Michael Mayer.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I I was one of the first tight ends I
- 17:48Speaker 1: I watched on film, So that was like a month ago.
- 17:51Speaker 1: So now now now I'm onto Laporta because I just
- 17:54Speaker 1: watched him, you know, last week is there is there
- 17:58Speaker 1: any worry that the Patriots won't be able to develop
- 18:02Speaker 1: a first round wide receiver like what happened with Nikil
- 18:04Speaker 1: Harry or was that just a flip. You have to
- 18:06Speaker 1: worry about what happened when Nikki Harry was that he
- 18:09Speaker 1: was not good at football. Yeah, so you have to
- 18:11Speaker 1: worry about that. But I can't get I can't let
- 18:13Speaker 1: that feet in the way. The reason for that in
- 18:16Speaker 1: the past, who knows, you know, was it Brady? Was
- 18:19Speaker 1: it the offense itself. You gotta figure if they draft
- 18:23Speaker 1: the right guy, if the guy has talent, he'll be fine,
- 18:26Speaker 1: He'll be fine. Yeah, you know I worry about it, Yeah,
- 18:29Speaker 1: just because they haven't done it right. I mean, Jakoby
- 18:32Speaker 1: Myers might be one of the most one of the
- 18:34Speaker 1: biggest success stories in that regard. Yeah, And so I've
- 18:37Speaker 1: gotten to the point where the Edelman's and the Myers
- 18:39Speaker 1: I give those guys the credit for developing themselves. Yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 1: because there's too many guys that didn't develop for me
- 18:44Speaker 1: to give the program the credit. Aaron Rodgers, according to
- 18:50Speaker 1: Trey Wingo, anyway, it's a done deal. But he's the
- 18:53Speaker 1: only one that said that. Um, is he going now
- 18:56Speaker 1: I heard he's going on mac uh, what's pa McAfee
- 19:00Speaker 1: McAfee show, and he's going to announce it on that shot?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Is that I think that's the assumption because that's Guy McAfee.
- 19:07Speaker 1: But it certainly seems like it's happening now. I think
- 19:10Speaker 1: the Jets are starting to like load up on his
- 19:12Speaker 1: body's Lazard and Randall Cobb they're expressing interest in, so
- 19:17Speaker 1: I already have his OC. Certainly seems like that that's
- 19:20Speaker 1: where it's going. How do we feel about technical we are?
- 19:25Speaker 1: We have scared? Yes, definitely, considering the last two games
- 19:29Speaker 1: like that they played against them, where a good quarterback
- 19:31Speaker 1: might have probably would have been the difference in those
- 19:33Speaker 1: games and not in a favorable way to the Patriots.
- 19:35Speaker 1: A little scared. But I'm also like, could this be
- 19:37Speaker 1: a bust? Like kind of like Russell Wilson going to Denver?
- 19:40Speaker 1: Like That's why I'm like, and it's also the Jet
- 19:42Speaker 1: It's like you've seen what they've done with the worst
- 19:46Speaker 1: case for the Jets is last year with Brady, where
- 19:50Speaker 1: they're in every game because of their defense and when
- 19:53Speaker 1: they need it, they've got the quarterback who can make
- 19:56Speaker 1: the play. But that's worst case. I think best cases,
- 20:00Speaker 1: he decides who wants to play. They're challenging the bills. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 1: I don't know if they're that good. But but if
- 20:06Speaker 1: if he decides that he wants to play, all comes
- 20:08Speaker 1: back healthy. Yeah, you know, I do think it's it's
- 20:12Speaker 1: worried about the jets. I have never heard about about
- 20:14Speaker 1: I am, and I'm more worried. This is legitimately a
- 20:17Speaker 1: first in the history of program. Yeah, I'm more worried
- 20:20Speaker 1: than this. But the other part of this for me
- 20:23Speaker 1: that I can't ignourish is that he's nuts and the
- 20:24Speaker 1: New York media is what it is, and like, that's
- 20:26Speaker 1: just that's gonna be fun to watch. How when they
- 20:29Speaker 1: get on him about stuff like how's that all gonna be? He?
- 20:31Speaker 1: Iagine him telling everybody to have a glass of scotch
- 20:33Speaker 1: and relax. Yeah, but he is nut. I don't tell
- 20:36Speaker 1: me want to do No, he is nuts, and then
- 20:40Speaker 1: and you know they'll get on him. But I think
- 20:42Speaker 1: he kind of likes that. I don't know. I think
- 20:44Speaker 1: he kind of likes maying with the media's probably you know, right,
- 20:48Speaker 1: I think he kind of revels in that. So I'm
- 20:50Speaker 1: not sure it'll it'd be that much of a I
- 20:52Speaker 1: think they're a playoff team with Aaron Rodgers. I don't
- 20:54Speaker 1: think it's very proba that brief allback. I don't think
- 20:57Speaker 1: you can understate that too. With that, you didn't the
- 20:59Speaker 1: Patriots didn't. That Jets team last year with that guy
- 21:01Speaker 1: right ball too. So I think you could make an
- 21:03Speaker 1: argument that if Mike White played the two games, the
- 21:05Speaker 1: Jets would have won at least one. Miami Dolphin's own
- 21:07Speaker 1: like White. That's how you know to Fred's point. Now,
- 21:12Speaker 1: defense to me is very fickle. They had a great
- 21:15Speaker 1: defense last year. It doesn't mean they're gonna have a
- 21:17Speaker 1: great win this year. Sometimes those things, it's true, those
- 21:20Speaker 1: things can switch in a hurry and you could lose pieces.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I think quinnin Williams is still a big ticket item, right,
- 21:26Speaker 1: that's a big part of their defense. Oh yeah he's
- 21:28Speaker 1: not signed, Right, Yeah he's signed. Oh he did sign.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Yeah Quinn and Williams. I thought he wasn't. Yeah, no
- 21:33Speaker 1: he's not free agent. Oh is that two years out? Yeah?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Never mind, then now that's a big never mind. Yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 1: The Patriots have they have such a clear way to
- 21:44Speaker 1: achieve what they need to achieve. But what is our
- 21:47Speaker 1: confidence level that they're actually gonna do it? I think
- 21:49Speaker 1: that's like the biggest thing that just listening to everybody
- 21:51Speaker 1: else and like and just trying to rack my head
- 21:55Speaker 1: around what could the plan be? Is you have thirty
- 21:58Speaker 1: million dollars in cap space, which means you have plenty
- 22:00Speaker 1: of cap space to do whatever you want. You have
- 22:03Speaker 1: the fourteenth pick, you have some assets in the draft,
- 22:06Speaker 1: you have needs, But do you have confidence in that
- 22:10Speaker 1: they are actually going to pull off a big move
- 22:11Speaker 1: to to fill it? Like, and I'm talking mostly about
- 22:15Speaker 1: a wide receiver or a playmaker of some sort, But
- 22:18Speaker 1: do you have any faith whatsoever in this team that
- 22:21Speaker 1: they would make that trade, that they would trade for
- 22:23Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins, that they would trade for Jerry Judy, that
- 22:26Speaker 1: they'd give up real assets and real draft capital slash
- 22:30Speaker 1: cap space to actually go out there and fix this
- 22:34Speaker 1: once and for all. And I just I have zero
- 22:38Speaker 1: confidence in that. I can't like convince myself that they're
- 22:41Speaker 1: going to do something like that. Real talk, you look
- 22:43Speaker 1: at how the last two years went, the decisions that
- 22:45Speaker 1: were made. I don't I mean, I I'm with you,
- 22:47Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of confidence I still have
- 22:48Speaker 1: a part of me that says, I think that they
- 22:50Speaker 1: have something in the works, because you can't just go
- 22:52Speaker 1: into the season without doing anything, So don't do really,
- 22:56Speaker 1: but I just don't think it. Is it gonna be
- 22:58Speaker 1: big enough something. You also just look at the situation
- 23:02Speaker 1: with the quarterback, and the one thing that you can
- 23:05Speaker 1: say about Mac Jones, it's a fact, is that he's
- 23:07Speaker 1: on a rookie contract. That's the one fact that you
- 23:09Speaker 1: have about Mac Jones that he's on a rookie contract
- 23:11Speaker 1: two years, two more years. And everybody around the league
- 23:14Speaker 1: when they have a quarterback on a rookie contract, they spend, spend, spend, spend, spend,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and they maximize that window of having a cheap starting quarterback.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Right what are we doing. We're not doing that. We're
- 23:25Speaker 1: not making the A. J. Brown trade right now. We're
- 23:28Speaker 1: not making the Tyree Killed trade or the Stefon Diggs trade,
- 23:31Speaker 1: or I can just go right down the line. It's
- 23:32Speaker 1: the problem though, not the money, and it's the assets.
- 23:36Speaker 1: It's not willing to give up those draft picks. I
- 23:40Speaker 1: don't know if it's that or like I feel like
- 23:42Speaker 1: they feel like they're coaching is so superb that they
- 23:47Speaker 1: don't need to go out there and get that type
- 23:49Speaker 1: of guy. But, like I've said all offseason long, I
- 23:51Speaker 1: don't want you to get an off brand wide receiver
- 23:54Speaker 1: and think you can coach him up to be great.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I want you to go out and get one that's
- 23:57Speaker 1: already great, that can learn the system and it really helps.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I saw somebody on Twitter saying they're still running this
- 24:03Speaker 1: team like they have Tom Brady? Yeah, is there any
- 24:07Speaker 1: validity to that thought? I don't know. I think they're
- 24:10Speaker 1: still running the team like the way they run the team,
- 24:12Speaker 1: whether or not that is, you know that, like they
- 24:14Speaker 1: think they have Tom Brady or not. I mean, I
- 24:16Speaker 1: think that's the better way to put it, because I
- 24:17Speaker 1: don't think they ran it like that because of Tom Brady.
- 24:20Speaker 1: That's the way they want to run it. It worked
- 24:22Speaker 1: because of Tom Brady, and I don't know if they
- 24:24Speaker 1: know that, Okay, And I think to Evans point, as
- 24:28Speaker 1: he keeps saying, if you keep doing the same thing
- 24:29Speaker 1: over and over again, expecting the same expecting like better results,
- 24:32Speaker 1: that's insane. And I think that just because it worked
- 24:35Speaker 1: with Tom Brady, it's not working now. Therefore you need
- 24:37Speaker 1: to change it. And that starts by going on and
- 24:40Speaker 1: getting someone big at the wide receiver position. Yes, I
- 24:46Speaker 1: just they got the top available free agents right now.
- 24:48Speaker 1: And I mean, I gotta be honest, coming into this
- 24:50Speaker 1: free agency period, I was not blown away with free agency.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I didn't think that the team was going to close
- 24:55Speaker 1: the gap on the bills in free agency. You know
- 24:58Speaker 1: that said, it's just it's it's it's definitely a little
- 25:00Speaker 1: disappointing at this point. But I just still see it
- 25:03Speaker 1: as the draft and I see that as the only
- 25:04Speaker 1: real way back to what it was. And they certainly
- 25:07Speaker 1: need to fill some pieces in free agency right now.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But you know, it's just and that's the other aspects
- 25:12Speaker 1: of is letting Jacobe leave. And you know, I saw
- 25:14Speaker 1: a thing that if they only have at their last
- 25:17Speaker 1: year's draft class, that's the only guys that are signed
- 25:19Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five. So this is you know, the
- 25:21Speaker 1: next two years are basically your team and then it's
- 25:23Speaker 1: it's just kind of a blank slap beyond that. And
- 25:25Speaker 1: I think I'm feeling that right now, especially when a
- 25:27Speaker 1: player that you internally develop, you know, got leaves again.
- 25:31Speaker 1: It's just it's just hard, you wonder, what are we
- 25:32Speaker 1: what are we doing. Are we building towards something long term?
- 25:34Speaker 1: I mean, now Devin's gone, we have to, you know,
- 25:36Speaker 1: find some new leadership in that regard as well. So
- 25:39Speaker 1: I think as we sit here on Tuesday, a free
- 25:41Speaker 1: agency just kind of I just kind of feel like
- 25:43Speaker 1: we're floating with no real direction, and I'm waiting for
- 25:45Speaker 1: a move to happen that says this is where we're going,
- 25:47Speaker 1: this is what we're going to do, you know, and
- 25:49Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be this humongous, you know, a
- 25:51Speaker 1: life altering thing. But I think that there are still
- 25:54Speaker 1: players out there, even in the mid range of that
- 25:57Speaker 1: that will at least signal to you, hey, we get it,
- 25:59Speaker 1: we know where we need to get better, and you know,
- 26:00Speaker 1: we do have a plan to do it. And it's
- 26:02Speaker 1: just hard here day two of the tampering period that
- 26:05Speaker 1: you know, they haven't really they haven't done any things.
- 26:08Speaker 1: You know how I like to worry about things all
- 26:09Speaker 1: the time. What you worried me last week, Fred, when
- 26:12Speaker 1: we had a conversation on Tuesday about wide receivers and
- 26:15Speaker 1: what kind of wide receivers? You think Bill doesn't like
- 26:18Speaker 1: the whole Diva thing. I think there's something philosophically about that.
- 26:21Speaker 1: So that is like I can be, I'm lockstep with
- 26:25Speaker 1: the panel here on Jacoby Myers. I think they need
- 26:28Speaker 1: bet needed better. As much as I love Jacoby Myers,
- 26:31Speaker 1: I think they needed better. I don't have any faith
- 26:35Speaker 1: that they're going to get better because better is the diva.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah, because A J. Brown. You know, they play hard,
- 26:44Speaker 1: Davante Adams, but they're the kind of wide receivers a lot. Yeah,
- 26:49Speaker 1: they're mercurial Juju. Even looking at Juju, I mean he's
- 26:53Speaker 1: he's a different he's Jacoby Myers. I take Juju in
- 26:56Speaker 1: a heartbea because I think he plays hard too, but
- 26:58Speaker 1: that's not that's a lot of real move He's the
- 27:00Speaker 1: same as Jacoby Myers. But if you can get one
- 27:03Speaker 1: of those studs, I'm all for it. I just don't
- 27:07Speaker 1: think they will because I think they You worry me
- 27:09Speaker 1: about that like that, that whole mentality. I think that
- 27:12Speaker 1: Bill don't at it that way. I don't. I don't
- 27:14Speaker 1: want to get this guy because you know, he don't
- 27:17Speaker 1: look at it. He's not worth the resources, as you said, right,
- 27:19Speaker 1: he's not worth the first round pick. Yeah they are,
- 27:22Speaker 1: they are worth that, but you don't like it because
- 27:26Speaker 1: that's not the style that you like. That Like you
- 27:29Speaker 1: worried me, you got me a whole new can of worry. Now,
- 27:32Speaker 1: what are your thoughts ahead, Tamara? Well, I guess what is?
- 27:35Speaker 1: What are everyone's thoughts on ob J? I understanding that
- 27:38Speaker 1: he had to work out where he invited fifteen or
- 27:40Speaker 1: so teams to go watch. What are your thoughts? I'm
- 27:43Speaker 1: gonna play the role of you know, um the old
- 27:46Speaker 1: fart and say, you know, he just I just I
- 27:49Speaker 1: just can't depend on him mentally, you know, like what
- 27:53Speaker 1: you're gonna wake up today? What's what's gonna be your
- 27:56Speaker 1: attitude today? Ob J? You know, I worry about his
- 27:58Speaker 1: physical I'm not as Yeah, and like why is he
- 28:02Speaker 1: you know, like he hasn't really done anything for years?
- 28:05Speaker 1: You know, I think everybody forgets the Rams. He wasn't.
- 28:09Speaker 1: He came on the Rams and he was great and
- 28:11Speaker 1: he and he helped them that year absolutely, but then
- 28:14Speaker 1: he was hurt for the town Al and the super Bowl. Now,
- 28:17Speaker 1: but I just gonna kill him for that. That's a mentality.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I'm not gonna kill him, but I just I don't
- 28:21Speaker 1: know what I'm getting with him. I think at one time.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I don't know what bel Yeah, that's why I don't
- 28:27Speaker 1: know what. I mean. He was probably one of the
- 28:29Speaker 1: most talented receivers in the league at one time. And
- 28:32Speaker 1: I also worry that he didn't sign last year, like
- 28:34Speaker 1: about his knee. He's been out. I think that's because
- 28:37Speaker 1: of his knee. Yeah, that no one signed him. The
- 28:39Speaker 1: Patriots did tender Miles Bryant, So Miles Bryant got first
- 28:44Speaker 1: right at first refusal tender. That's the right two point
- 28:47Speaker 1: six million for one year, yeah from Reese. That to me,
- 28:51Speaker 1: I mean, I don't mean to sound like that. That
- 28:54Speaker 1: to me is the right move. Yeah, I hate I mean,
- 28:58Speaker 1: I I don't mean to sound like that. One. I
- 29:00Speaker 1: mean I feel like the right move would have tried
- 29:01Speaker 1: to get that down it maybe assigned him like a
- 29:03Speaker 1: two year for like half that month, you know, like
- 29:05Speaker 1: I don't want any of that kind of like that
- 29:08Speaker 1: still seems like a lot. But I mean, you got
- 29:10Speaker 1: Marcus Jones, like we were talking about upstairs, Like, I mean,
- 29:13Speaker 1: you've got a guy that you seem like you drafted
- 29:14Speaker 1: for that role. I mean, I know safeties now a
- 29:16Speaker 1: little bit like all right, what are we gonna do?
- 29:18Speaker 1: But I just think that the difference between a guy
- 29:21Speaker 1: who's played safety like Mills or him, you know, it's
- 29:25Speaker 1: not the same as being the full time back end
- 29:28Speaker 1: free safety guy. I just I don't know. I mean,
- 29:30Speaker 1: I know, you know we were talking about Jesse Bates
- 29:32Speaker 1: and he went to Atlanta. I want to talk about
- 29:34Speaker 1: that a little bit because I think there's that's the
- 29:36Speaker 1: one contract I would have done. So let's let's Jesse Bates, right,
- 29:43Speaker 1: so we can say. I'm not really upset, it's just
- 29:46Speaker 1: the tampering period. Like the Patriots did a lot of bookkeeping.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Why why do we spend the beginning part of the
- 29:59Speaker 1: legal tampering period resigning our guys that we could have
- 30:02Speaker 1: resigned two weeks ago. So just so fans know, all
- 30:05Speaker 1: of the Patriots moves thus far could have been made
- 30:07Speaker 1: whenever they wanted. Yeah, they didn't need to wait till
- 30:10Speaker 1: now to sign these guys. They were their own free agents.
- 30:13Speaker 1: They had exclusive negotiating wretch. They hadn't become free agency yet.
- 30:18Speaker 1: They would they wouldn't have until tomorrow, so they could
- 30:22Speaker 1: have gotten the deal done with James Ferns. They could
- 30:25Speaker 1: have gotten the deal done with Jonathan Jones, whenever is
- 30:28Speaker 1: there any advantage to wait? Okay, So here's what I'm saying,
- 30:31Speaker 1: what the player wants to see, what's out there. Here's
- 30:33Speaker 1: what I worry about it. Do I know that this
- 30:35Speaker 1: has happened. I don't, But this is what I worry about,
- 30:38Speaker 1: is Jesse Bates. Mike Reece on Sunday had an item
- 30:43Speaker 1: on Jesse Bates. I tell you all the time that
- 30:46Speaker 1: I do not take lightly when Mike rees writes things,
- 30:49Speaker 1: because I don't think he's in the rumor mongering business.
- 30:52Speaker 1: He's as professional as they come. So I think for
- 30:55Speaker 1: him to write that either meant he on his own
- 31:00Speaker 1: was coming up with a really plausible scenario, or more likely,
- 31:05Speaker 1: he was doing that and running that by somebody. Yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I think there was a legitimate interest in Jesse Bates
- 31:12Speaker 1: to replace Devin mccordy, which I think we all would
- 31:14Speaker 1: have been happy with younger version. Right, you are resigning
- 31:21Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones and Carl Davis, Ray Kwan McMillan. You know,
- 31:27Speaker 1: on Monday now or over the weekend when when I
- 31:32Speaker 1: think Atlanta was it was Atlanta, right, is talking to
- 31:37Speaker 1: Jesse Bates now. It could very possibly be that Bill
- 31:41Speaker 1: is talking to Jesse Bates. So whoever is talking to
- 31:44Speaker 1: Jesse Bates mac grow and they come to the realization,
- 31:48Speaker 1: you know what Evan looks like, looks like the Falcons
- 31:52Speaker 1: are going to go to a place that we're not
- 31:53Speaker 1: going to be able to go. We gotta make sure
- 31:54Speaker 1: we talk. We gotta make sure we got to get
- 31:56Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones resigned, because I think Jones's versatility it puts
- 32:01Speaker 1: him and Jalen Mills in a small handful of guys
- 32:06Speaker 1: that might be able to replace Devin mccordy. So they
- 32:09Speaker 1: may have looked at Jonathan Jones last minute and said,
- 32:13Speaker 1: we're not gonna be able to get Bates. We gotta
- 32:15Speaker 1: make sure we get John Jones back. Maybe I don't know,
- 32:18Speaker 1: but I don't like I hate the whole I don't
- 32:20Speaker 1: like that if that's the way to move Jalen Mills
- 32:22Speaker 1: to see, like, can we just get a safety way?
- 32:24Speaker 1: Can we just we just set Yeah, And he's but
- 32:29Speaker 1: he's not a center fielder. He's not a free safety.
- 32:32Speaker 1: And if you're going to run the system the same
- 32:33Speaker 1: way that you run the system with a lot of
- 32:36Speaker 1: single high a lot of man coverage, you need a
- 32:38Speaker 1: center fielder and Jesse Bates is a guy that was
- 32:41Speaker 1: franchise tagged initially by Cincinnati, and now they're coming the
- 32:45Speaker 1: bills coming due on their on their top guys, Burrow
- 32:48Speaker 1: Chase te Higgins, so they're about to shell out a
- 32:51Speaker 1: ton of money to retain the top of their roster,
- 32:54Speaker 1: and he was a collateral damage of basically them prioritizing
- 32:59Speaker 1: other guys over him. So that's a player that has
- 33:02Speaker 1: as a Pro Bowl, all Pro caliber talent, you know,
- 33:05Speaker 1: he's somebody that's an impact player in the back end,
- 33:08Speaker 1: and four for sixty four with thirty million in cap space,
- 33:11Speaker 1: he couldn't do that. Now, he was out to dinner
- 33:14Speaker 1: with like all of Atlanta like a couple of weeks ago.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Aj Terrell and all those guys took him out. So
- 33:20Speaker 1: maybe he had his eyes on the Falcons the whole way.
- 33:23Speaker 1: And it was Peter Lyders had written that something along
- 33:26Speaker 1: the lines of Jesse Bates in Atlanta, you know, in
- 33:29Speaker 1: his Monday Morning Football in America whatever it's called. And yeah,
- 33:34Speaker 1: that's why I say, like maybe maybe the Patriots looked
- 33:37Speaker 1: at and said, you know what, we're not going to
- 33:39Speaker 1: get this guy Shrine Bowl. Screwed us up. That took
- 33:41Speaker 1: all our time. But that's just the one guy that
- 33:44Speaker 1: I would look at in the you have a future
- 33:46Speaker 1: A block that signed yesterday that I really feel like
- 33:50Speaker 1: I would have done that contract in a heartbeat, like
- 33:52Speaker 1: Jeremaine Edmonds for four for seventy two, Mike McGlinchey for
- 33:55Speaker 1: five for ninety, Like, I'm totally fine that they they
- 33:59Speaker 1: passed on guys like that, But Jesse Bates was right
- 34:02Speaker 1: there no scheme fit. Yeah, oh, I would have loved
- 34:06Speaker 1: tremade Edmunds just a lot. I wasn't making fun of
- 34:08Speaker 1: you that I've read that. I read that in a
- 34:10Speaker 1: lot of places. Yes, wait, someone said he's on a
- 34:12Speaker 1: scheme fit to talent. That's ridiculous, But I would have
- 34:17Speaker 1: four for seventy two for a middle linebacker. Is a
- 34:19Speaker 1: lot of money. But that's like, I agree, it is
- 34:22Speaker 1: a lot of money. But that's where it's going. Like
- 34:25Speaker 1: what did Roquan Smith just resigned for eighteen million a year? Yeah,
- 34:28Speaker 1: it's about the same money. Like that's what these like.
- 34:30Speaker 1: You can sit there and say that's too rich for
- 34:32Speaker 1: my blood, and maybe you're not wrong. That's great, that's
- 34:36Speaker 1: a difference maker. That's great. You're right, those guys can
- 34:40Speaker 1: make it too much money, but you don't have the players.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I want to go back though, something um Evan kind
- 34:45Speaker 1: of threw out there. We were talking about the wide
- 34:47Speaker 1: receiver diva and all that stuff, and Evan, you said,
- 34:50Speaker 1: that's not how they're thinking. Yeah, why do you say that,
- 34:54Speaker 1: because that's not how they operate. They the only time
- 34:56Speaker 1: that they've ever operated like that is with Randy Moss.
- 35:00Speaker 1: The only time other than that, I truly believe that
- 35:03Speaker 1: they feel like they would rather build out depth and
- 35:07Speaker 1: have a strong one through five like they've had over
- 35:10Speaker 1: the last couple of years, distribute to football all that
- 35:12Speaker 1: kind of stuff, and they don't see the value in
- 35:17Speaker 1: that number one. I agree, though I thought you were
- 35:20Speaker 1: going in another direction. Yeah, I agree with that that
- 35:23Speaker 1: I don't think that they see the value the way
- 35:25Speaker 1: that other teams do. But I would push back on
- 35:28Speaker 1: that strongly just because of the way that the league
- 35:29Speaker 1: has gone. The league has has trended so far towards
- 35:34Speaker 1: those guys being I mean, there's a lot of well
- 35:37Speaker 1: I have stuff out there, and I also think it
- 35:39Speaker 1: sounds like a broken record, but I think everything changes
- 35:42Speaker 1: once Tom Brady left. You know I think that, but
- 35:45Speaker 1: even with Tom Brady, what was the best offense. But
- 35:48Speaker 1: I think when Brady was here, I'm not sure, I'm
- 35:51Speaker 1: and I have no knowledge of this, but I wouldn't
- 35:53Speaker 1: be surprised if there was something in Brady's contract that said,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I have to be the highest paid player on the team,
- 36:00Speaker 1: you know, and at any moment, if you bring in
- 36:03Speaker 1: a top tier receiver at that moment, for a period
- 36:07Speaker 1: of time, he could be making more than Brady. I
- 36:11Speaker 1: think the pecking order of who makes what on the
- 36:14Speaker 1: team was always important to Belichick, you know that, that
- 36:17Speaker 1: type of you know, order in the locker room. I
- 36:21Speaker 1: think he was very cognizant of that and like certain
- 36:24Speaker 1: players can't make more than other players. Well, but it's
- 36:26Speaker 1: interesting now because you don't really have a pecking order,
- 36:28Speaker 1: like you don't really know. I think it all everybody's
- 36:31Speaker 1: just kind of like a free for all, and you
- 36:32Speaker 1: know they're and without by without Brady and with a
- 36:36Speaker 1: quarterback who's on a rookie contract. I think anything goes
- 36:40Speaker 1: in my opinion, and I just I think a lot
- 36:42Speaker 1: of what we're talking about here is like the theme
- 36:44Speaker 1: of same old Patriots doing things the way they want
- 36:47Speaker 1: to do it, and it's like, at what point, you've
- 36:49Speaker 1: missed the playoffs two out of the last three years,
- 36:51Speaker 1: you can't really beat any good teams anymore. At what
- 36:53Speaker 1: point do you realize, like, hey, maybe we should change
- 36:55Speaker 1: things up a little bit. I mean, in twenty twenty
- 36:57Speaker 1: one the free agency class, I think that's what we
- 36:59Speaker 1: all kind of took the signal and it was absolutely necessary.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Well because of the draft, they missed it him, But
- 37:03Speaker 1: what are we doing now? I find comfort in mac
- 37:05Speaker 1: Roe's words where he says these top receivers coming a premium,
- 37:11Speaker 1: there's no more does his boss saying yeah, but at
- 37:14Speaker 1: least there's someone in the room with that mindset, there's
- 37:16Speaker 1: no more. Well, you know, value is the third round
- 37:19Speaker 1: and you know, Bob, you know there's no There was
- 37:23Speaker 1: no talk of value there. You know, value means let's
- 37:26Speaker 1: get guys on a deal, you know. But he came
- 37:29Speaker 1: right out and said, if you want a top receiver,
- 37:31Speaker 1: it comes at a premium. I think those were his
- 37:34Speaker 1: exact where it was. And that's why I think what
- 37:36Speaker 1: where I get frustrated is because so you have the
- 37:39Speaker 1: director of player person Alex sees it, the rest of
- 37:41Speaker 1: the league sees it, but does the boss see it right? Like,
- 37:44Speaker 1: because at the end of the day that he's the
- 37:46Speaker 1: most important one. And if have you noticed there's a
- 37:50Speaker 1: trend developing with Evan. Yeah, but over the last month
- 37:52Speaker 1: or so, he's nudging but head coach. But I will
- 37:56Speaker 1: say that in the past on this team, I don't
- 37:59Speaker 1: care if Nick Assario or you know, Scott Pioli, they
- 38:04Speaker 1: wouldn't say that unless they knew that the boss agreed
- 38:09Speaker 1: with that. I'm sorry, I just I'm not nudging him
- 38:11Speaker 1: to the retirement home. I'm just teasing. But I do
- 38:14Speaker 1: think a lot of if this is what we're doing,
- 38:17Speaker 1: I think that a lot of the ways that he
- 38:19Speaker 1: thinks his archaic, I do. I think I think it's
- 38:23Speaker 1: I think they're trying to sell them. I think mac
- 38:25Speaker 1: I write with Evan on this. I think mac Row
- 38:28Speaker 1: was trying to sell Bill Belichick on that notion last
- 38:31Speaker 1: year with a lot of those comments. And I don't
- 38:33Speaker 1: think he's necessarily I think he did it. I think
- 38:35Speaker 1: he said, Okay, yeah, we'll try so you're right, we
- 38:38Speaker 1: need to get faster, And I would think he looks
- 38:40Speaker 1: at and said, yeah, what what what what that? What?
- 38:43Speaker 1: That speed? Do for Samara, what what do do you have?
- 38:47Speaker 1: My responses because I think it would what Macro and
- 38:50Speaker 1: Wolves response would be, how did you use the speed?
- 38:54Speaker 1: I know when we can go back and because but
- 38:57Speaker 1: I with Evan's premise, I think that there has been
- 39:00Speaker 1: a reluctance on Bill to sort of venture away from
- 39:06Speaker 1: the nineteen ninety one draft profile in Cleveland that Daniel
- 39:11Speaker 1: Jeremiah Is it Danny Jeremiah or one of those guys
- 39:14Speaker 1: always always puts on Twitter like players have changed, players, styles,
- 39:20Speaker 1: players sizes, players ability has changed over the So let
- 39:24Speaker 1: me ask you a question. I know this is a
- 39:26Speaker 1: little sensitive, but you know there was that famous quote
- 39:29Speaker 1: from Bill when asked about from Karen Garigi and how
- 39:33Speaker 1: he felt about all the free agency free and how
- 39:35Speaker 1: that worked out and all that money that they spent.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Bill was very quick to point out that over the
- 39:41Speaker 1: last three years the Patriots were number twenty seven or
- 39:44Speaker 1: eight in cash spending. Did he do that to say, wow,
- 39:48Speaker 1: we did that without spending a lot of money, or
- 39:51Speaker 1: did he do that to say, no, we need to
- 39:52Speaker 1: spend more money. I think the former, I think to
- 39:56Speaker 1: tell you how they've been able to do it without
- 39:58Speaker 1: doing all that that's why we do it. I disagree.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I don't think he's they have the pushing. I don't
- 40:04Speaker 1: think he's pushing to spend more money. If they wanted
- 40:06Speaker 1: to spend money this offseason, they could have spent money.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Like they have the cap space, they have the wiggle
- 40:10Speaker 1: room to figure it out with the books. It's not
- 40:13Speaker 1: about that, Like it's not about the cap. No, I'm
- 40:16Speaker 1: not saying it is about the cap. I just think
- 40:18Speaker 1: that it's about how they want to build a team.
- 40:21Speaker 1: I think it's how they want to builds, how build
- 40:23Speaker 1: caves that you do it? Can we you know? And
- 40:25Speaker 1: I know we have a lot of people holding on
- 40:26Speaker 1: and I want to get to you in a minute,
- 40:28Speaker 1: but I just want to stop the conversation right here
- 40:30Speaker 1: and clear up something because you know, I listened to
- 40:32Speaker 1: a lot of Paul shows and I get I hear
- 40:35Speaker 1: the question ask from callers, and none of the hosts
- 40:38Speaker 1: really give a good answer. What's the difference between the
- 40:42Speaker 1: cap and cash spending? What do you mean there's there's
- 40:48Speaker 1: there's a difference between what your cap is in your
- 40:50Speaker 1: cash outlay. You like you're asking, but I like someone
- 40:55Speaker 1: can give a fifty million dollars signing bonus. But if
- 40:58Speaker 1: it's over a six year contract, you could spread out
- 41:00Speaker 1: on the cap. But it's still fifty million, and you're
- 41:02Speaker 1: still you're spending. And every dollar that much on the cap,
- 41:05Speaker 1: that's every dollar eventually comes due. Every every dollar that's
- 41:08Speaker 1: the cap every you're right, and that's why the cap
- 41:11Speaker 1: is not crap. Every dollar crap, but every dollar eventually,
- 41:14Speaker 1: every eventually what cap record exists, it exists. It's not crap.
- 41:20Speaker 1: It can be manipulated. It does force you to make decisions. However,
- 41:24Speaker 1: cash spending is different than oh, we have thirty million
- 41:28Speaker 1: dollars under the cap or whatever. Cash spending is the
- 41:32Speaker 1: money that an owner actually has to take out of
- 41:35Speaker 1: a bank account and give a guy on a day,
- 41:38Speaker 1: and not the cap. That's why that's the cap is meaningless.
- 41:43Speaker 1: That's right. And that's the difference when people say, well,
- 41:46Speaker 1: they got all this money into the cap or they're
- 41:49Speaker 1: they're spending to the cap, which could be true. But
- 41:52Speaker 1: cash outlay is different than what the cap is. It's different.
- 41:57Speaker 1: You can you can literally spend three times as much
- 42:01Speaker 1: as the cap in a given year, like cash given out,
- 42:04Speaker 1: but then that cash is spread out amortize over the
- 42:08Speaker 1: life of many UH contracts. But for for a lot
- 42:12Speaker 1: of owners, you know, for a lot of owners, that's
- 42:15Speaker 1: like a you know, you know, hundreds of millions of
- 42:18Speaker 1: dollars of cash that has to be taken out of
- 42:22Speaker 1: a bank account and given to players on a day.
- 42:25Speaker 1: I mean, it was last week, Like last week is
- 42:27Speaker 1: the official cap is crap week? Like every other second
- 42:30Speaker 1: it's they just restructured these three guys like that, like
- 42:35Speaker 1: and I mean, I think that the problem with the
- 42:37Speaker 1: cap is crap saying is that just implying like it's
- 42:39Speaker 1: completely meaningless, which it kind of is, but like, but
- 42:42Speaker 1: there still are like you gotta do some things. Now,
- 42:44Speaker 1: you gotta move some guys. You got some more money.
- 42:47Speaker 1: And when you do those things, it does friends, right,
- 42:50Speaker 1: it does put it off, and at some point you
- 42:52Speaker 1: have to do it. It's just so easy to get around.
- 42:56Speaker 1: It was every other tweet last week. It's every other
- 42:58Speaker 1: that's why, just like Devin mccordy, like we just years
- 43:03Speaker 1: and how those void years are gonna be on the cap?
- 43:05Speaker 1: That's okay, And that was the advantage of having Tom Brady.
- 43:08Speaker 1: It's not that Tom Brady took much less than other quarterbacks.
- 43:12Speaker 1: It's he was always willing to allow them to use
- 43:15Speaker 1: his contract a sort of like a mortgage and refinance it.
- 43:20Speaker 1: And whenever they did that, he got a big lump
- 43:22Speaker 1: payment at that time. That was but it didn't hurt
- 43:26Speaker 1: that year's cap, you know, it was spread out over.
- 43:29Speaker 1: I also just think that, and he was a willing
- 43:31Speaker 1: partner and all that. I also just think with the cap.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I think the part where I come in with the
- 43:35Speaker 1: caps crap is because the bill never actually comes due.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Like there's never a time where the NFL says to
- 43:42Speaker 1: a team, hey, like you you gotta put all like
- 43:46Speaker 1: over the cap, can't play the year. If you don't
- 43:48Speaker 1: pay us tomorrow, then we're gonna send you to collection.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Right like that That doesn't actually ever happen. So you
- 43:54Speaker 1: can just keep pushing money into into But there is
- 43:59Speaker 1: a day every year where every team has to be
- 44:02Speaker 1: under the camp, right, But you can be under the
- 44:03Speaker 1: cap seventeen different ways, that's right, that's right. But but
- 44:06Speaker 1: and and when that you know, prior to that day,
- 44:09Speaker 1: you just make decisions to make sure that you're under
- 44:11Speaker 1: the cap. And like you said, Evan pushing money ahead,
- 44:14Speaker 1: but you've got to have the players that are willing
- 44:16Speaker 1: to do that, and you know there's no player not
- 44:18Speaker 1: willing to do that because you get it all upset
- 44:20Speaker 1: benefit the players, right, you get that money right then
- 44:23Speaker 1: and there. I'm not saying that you should run things
- 44:25Speaker 1: like the Saints do, because I I know that the
- 44:28Speaker 1: Saints have a method to their madness. But that is
- 44:32Speaker 1: not a sustainable model in my mind. But there's a
- 44:35Speaker 1: difference between all right, let's not get silly about the
- 44:38Speaker 1: cap like the Saints have, and we can push the
- 44:41Speaker 1: envelope like the Eagles do, for example, or the Rams. Yeah,
- 44:44Speaker 1: the Eagles and the Rams. You know, those two teams
- 44:46Speaker 1: are always in the top five in real cash spending
- 44:48Speaker 1: because they their owners just pay their way out of
- 44:52Speaker 1: cap chill. Every single offseason. They just say they kind
- 44:55Speaker 1: of check to the you know, the guys that would
- 44:58Speaker 1: the front office says, oh, these are the three guys
- 45:00Speaker 1: that we'd like to restructure because we can curle hear
- 45:02Speaker 1: the most space this way, or we trust it this way,
- 45:05Speaker 1: and you do that and you can just keep doing
- 45:07Speaker 1: that every single year and it never comes due. It
- 45:09Speaker 1: never hits a point where you're like tomorrow, the league
- 45:13Speaker 1: is like, oh, you owe us two hundred million dollars
- 45:15Speaker 1: or else like that that never happened. Les COVID hits
- 45:19Speaker 1: Washington and Dallas. No, no, it's an uncapped here. Oh
- 45:23Speaker 1: but you guys exceeded the cap. But it's an uncapp here. No. No,
- 45:25Speaker 1: you're gonna still pay us some some draft picks. All right,
- 45:28Speaker 1: five five pass five hundred is the ACE ticket. Hut
- 45:30Speaker 1: Line web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Let's get to the phones. See what you have to say.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Patty's an agaham, what's up? Patty? Hey everyone? How are
- 45:40Speaker 1: you today? Good? All right, Well, I'm hoping to offer
- 45:44Speaker 1: up a little bit of levity on just a couple
- 45:47Speaker 1: things on John hu Smith. At some point last year,
- 45:50Speaker 1: when I was watching The Guy play, I felt like
- 45:53Speaker 1: Susan and Seinfeld telling George about Um Cramer not going
- 45:57Speaker 1: to the wedding, like he'll he'll follow or something do
- 46:00Speaker 1: something wrong, It'll he'll ruin everything, you know, Um, And
- 46:04Speaker 1: I'm a I'm in a chat with t Christian Melbourne
- 46:08Speaker 1: and Chester right, And at some point yesterday I wrote,
- 46:11Speaker 1: I really hope that this isn't isn't their big splash
- 46:15Speaker 1: of the off season. And Christian had the best response
- 46:18Speaker 1: three words response, please God No. I got a good
- 46:21Speaker 1: laugh out of it. Um And just as far as
- 46:25Speaker 1: like the receivers go, I know, like the the big
- 46:28Speaker 1: splash names are guys like O'Dell's and DeAndre Hopkins, and
- 46:33Speaker 1: I'm hoping they don't go that route. I do want
- 46:36Speaker 1: to see a younger guy. I want to see them
- 46:38Speaker 1: trying to get a guy like Judy or possibly even
- 46:40Speaker 1: Bateman in here, because to me, I mean, you never
- 46:43Speaker 1: know what Like you sent Paul with Odell, you don't
- 46:46Speaker 1: know if he's gonna fall in and twist his knee
- 46:50Speaker 1: and and that's it. And DeAndre you don't know if
- 46:53Speaker 1: he gets popped again that he's done for the year
- 46:57Speaker 1: square one. You know, Yeah, I mean I could be
- 47:00Speaker 1: persuaded with a guy like Bateman. Not as my plan.
- 47:03Speaker 1: I don't want that to be the plan as a
- 47:05Speaker 1: flyer like first round talent hasn't completely worked out in Baltimore,
- 47:10Speaker 1: suffered through some injuries. But maybe you're buying low. That's
- 47:13Speaker 1: like an old school Belichick move, buying low on a guy,
- 47:16Speaker 1: and you know, some of those work out. But I
- 47:18Speaker 1: don't want to say, hey, I don't have to Worrybou anything.
- 47:21Speaker 1: I got Rashod Bateman to be my number one. Here
- 47:23Speaker 1: we go, Max, here you go. It's younger, right, Like
- 47:26Speaker 1: everybody would would rather trade for the younger player. It's
- 47:30Speaker 1: just what's available and what's feasible. I it'd all rather
- 47:33Speaker 1: Jerry Judy and T. Higgins over DeAndre Hopkins. But that
- 47:36Speaker 1: doesn't mean that Jerry Judy and T. Higgins are available.
- 47:38Speaker 1: So even it seems like Judy's available based on the repeat,
- 47:41Speaker 1: it's like, even with any of those guys, I still
- 47:43Speaker 1: want one of those day one, day two receivers in
- 47:46Speaker 1: this group, you know, I mean probably Day two. But like,
- 47:48Speaker 1: don't you remember so many years ago when they traded
- 47:52Speaker 1: they drafted Nikiel then they traded the two forsw and
- 47:54Speaker 1: he came out after the draft and said, well, we
- 47:56Speaker 1: already invested the first in the second round picking receivers,
- 47:58Speaker 1: so that's why we didn't draft other other moves. I
- 48:02Speaker 1: had forgot about the Mohammed Sinou for a second rounder,
- 48:05Speaker 1: thank you. That was the twenty twenty draft. That was desperation.
- 48:07Speaker 1: She always telling me a little bit of one of
- 48:09Speaker 1: your old year old friends, Philip to a set oh
- 48:13Speaker 1: I know, some people have been telling me Patriots have
- 48:15Speaker 1: been talking to philter Set that that was the twenty
- 48:17Speaker 1: twenty draft when they didn't draft a receiver at all.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I don't think, or maybe it was it. Trey Nixon
- 48:23Speaker 1: was the the seventh round pick. Was at the Ernie
- 48:26Speaker 1: year and they drafted Trey Nixon in the seventh round,
- 48:29Speaker 1: and everybody's looking around, like, how do you not draft
- 48:32Speaker 1: a receiver before the seventh round? And he said, well,
- 48:34Speaker 1: you know, last year we used a first on the
- 48:36Speaker 1: Keel and we used a second in a trade for Sino,
- 48:38Speaker 1: so we did Todd's in North Carolina. What's up Todd?
- 48:43Speaker 1: So I'm a little sad that we lost to Kobe,
- 48:46Speaker 1: but I realized that, you know, we need a better
- 48:49Speaker 1: slot than I think. It didn't when Bill O'Brien was here.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Didn't we have Welker. Wasn't that Welker's prime time when
- 48:55Speaker 1: Phil Bill O'Brien was her coach? Yes, so maybe we
- 48:59Speaker 1: need tobody that's in that slot. They can you know,
- 49:02Speaker 1: get open, sneak and have that sneaky quickness, maybe break
- 49:06Speaker 1: a play here and there, and then that'll make our
- 49:08Speaker 1: outside guys a little bit better because from the pressure
- 49:11Speaker 1: off of them. So maybe that's kind of what we
- 49:13Speaker 1: should be looking for. But I think your conversation has
- 49:16Speaker 1: been seriously interesting because I can't tell if it's okay
- 49:20Speaker 1: the owner won't spend the cash or Bill doesn't want
- 49:23Speaker 1: to invest in player. It's very It's hard because you
- 49:27Speaker 1: guys seem to be arguing almost both points. You're bringing
- 49:30Speaker 1: up this this like they've only spent cash like this
- 49:32Speaker 1: they've only been we're bringing up all the angles, I mean,
- 49:34Speaker 1: because we don't know either, you know. Yeah, Yeah, it's
- 49:38Speaker 1: it's a tough one because you know, if it's if
- 49:41Speaker 1: it goes all the way, if it's just the coach,
- 49:43Speaker 1: well then maybe he's maybe he's done. But what if
- 49:46Speaker 1: it goes if it's right up to the craft and
- 49:48Speaker 1: they say, like, look, we're not out laying cash for this,
- 49:51Speaker 1: then what do you do as Bill? Then you can't
- 49:53Speaker 1: I kind of find that accountable. Yeah, I kind of
- 49:56Speaker 1: find that surprising. I mean, even if listen, even if
- 49:59Speaker 1: it requires taken bank loan, what's more important not spending
- 50:02Speaker 1: the cash for getting the Patriots back to relevancy. I
- 50:05Speaker 1: think the crash would say we've got to do the
- 50:08Speaker 1: latter because that's eventually how you make your money is
- 50:13Speaker 1: you have a team that's annually competitive and the fans
- 50:17Speaker 1: are excited about and the media talks about, and you're
- 50:21Speaker 1: in the playoffs, and you know that's that's your investment,
- 50:25Speaker 1: that's your payoff. They built it goes back to what
- 50:29Speaker 1: Paul said. They built an entire dynasty off of value
- 50:35Speaker 1: and not overpaying their own guys. And they had and
- 50:41Speaker 1: then it felt like it worked for twenty years, because oh,
- 50:44Speaker 1: what a great system. What if it turns out that
- 50:46Speaker 1: it only worked because you had Tom Brady, right, And
- 50:49Speaker 1: now you have to come at it from a different
- 50:52Speaker 1: mentality and recognize that we are going to have to
- 50:55Speaker 1: pay a premium. And we go back to the free
- 50:57Speaker 1: agency a couple of years ago. I'm not asked to
- 51:00Speaker 1: spend two hundred million dollars in free agency again, but
- 51:02Speaker 1: it felt like they recognize that a little bit, that Okay,
- 51:05Speaker 1: we're gonna have to pay Matthew jude On and we're
- 51:07Speaker 1: gonna have to pay Hunter Henry, and we're gonna have
- 51:10Speaker 1: to pay these guys to come here and to get
- 51:13Speaker 1: some some talented players on the roster. And now it
- 51:16Speaker 1: feels like we're the last two offseasons, we've gone completely
- 51:19Speaker 1: back to looking for value and not prioritizing those types
- 51:24Speaker 1: of things, and that system falls apart. I mean, the
- 51:26Speaker 1: quarterback is a whole separate issue, but that system generally,
- 51:29Speaker 1: if you don't draft well, it falls apart because you can't.
- 51:32Speaker 1: You must dig your way out. You must draft well.
- 51:34Speaker 1: You must yeah, you must draft well, but you also
- 51:37Speaker 1: must have exceptional play at the quarterback spot because the
- 51:39Speaker 1: quarterback lifts all also around. Now, like I said, there
- 51:44Speaker 1: are slight examples of teams that are completely stacked with
- 51:48Speaker 1: no quarterback, like the Niners. That's a hell of a
- 51:51Speaker 1: lot harder to do than finding a good quarterback because
- 51:54Speaker 1: they have literally a great player at like twelve different spots.
- 51:58Speaker 1: That's a lot harder than five a good player at one,
- 52:01Speaker 1: because you don't have to have the best quarterback. You
- 52:04Speaker 1: just have to have a good one, right if you have,
- 52:07Speaker 1: like you said, good drafting, and yeah, you know, he
- 52:10Speaker 1: can help everybody else to do what San Francisco did. Yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 1: you can do it. But I mean, literally, they have
- 52:18Speaker 1: an exceptional player at a lot of different spots. Let's
- 52:21Speaker 1: see Marks in Connecticut and he says he's all fired up.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Good for today. Okay, let's go. Let's go. One of
- 52:29Speaker 1: the talks to Evan and Paul, I wanted to get
- 52:32Speaker 1: their opinion. I believe Gronk is correct. I think you
- 52:36Speaker 1: need to trade for DeAndre Hopkins for that second round pick,
- 52:40Speaker 1: you sign Orlando Brown, who's still a free agent, to tackle,
- 52:44Speaker 1: and then you use that first round pick on a
- 52:46Speaker 1: talented either wide receiver or my favorite, Michael Mayer to
- 52:51Speaker 1: do it all tight end that Evan loves. What did
- 52:54Speaker 1: you guys think of that? You're dreaming, That's what I'm thinking.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I'm dreaming with you, Mark, I'm dreaming with you. The
- 53:00Speaker 1: fact the odds of them paying DeAndre Hopkins in Orlando
- 53:03Speaker 1: Brown and Combine forty million dollars and giving up a
- 53:06Speaker 1: second round pick for DeAndre Hopkins zero. Do you think
- 53:10Speaker 1: it would only row beyond the beyond the money. Do
- 53:12Speaker 1: you think they could get him for a second round pick? Yeah?
- 53:15Speaker 1: I do Hopkins, Yeah yeah, but they won't the problem.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I'm right there with you. I'm not arguing with the
- 53:22Speaker 1: best that really doesn't like adding Adding Dejandre Hopkins and
- 53:26Speaker 1: losing Jakobe Myers doesn't solve your offense problem. I think
- 53:29Speaker 1: you needed both. Yeah, why doesn't that solve your offense problem?
- 53:32Speaker 1: It helps you. You're you're a little better, but you
- 53:34Speaker 1: had a terrible offense last year. Like, that doesn't solve
- 53:38Speaker 1: your offense problem. O'Brien helps solve it too, right, I think?
- 53:43Speaker 1: I think between Hopkins and Billy, Oh, that would make
- 53:46Speaker 1: your because you can find they can find if Hopkins
- 53:50Speaker 1: is your number one guy and you're just looking to
- 53:51Speaker 1: replace Jacobe Myers eight hundred yards, that they can find that. Okay,
- 53:55Speaker 1: so you're adding more pieces, Okay, oh yeah, but those
- 53:59Speaker 1: are the big pieces, Hopkins, Hopkins, Orlando Brown. Oh, I
- 54:03Speaker 1: didn't drafting the talking about Hopkins Now, I'm with Evan.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I mean no, no, I'm not Hopkins and Orlando. I'm
- 54:12Speaker 1: not talking about Orlando Brown even. I'm talking about Hopkins
- 54:14Speaker 1: and Bob. Like Hopkins and O'Brien being back, and then
- 54:18Speaker 1: I'll find the eight hundred yard slot receiver in the
- 54:21Speaker 1: in the in the sixth round, like okay, yeah, let
- 54:25Speaker 1: me know when they do it. Oh, they won't do it, Mark,
- 54:28Speaker 1: that's not that's Ray Nixon, t J Mo, Jeremy Ebert,
- 54:33Speaker 1: Who else am I missing? Jeremy Gallen about a six
- 54:36Speaker 1: seventh round slot receivers. Julian Edeman worked uh Eldred's in
- 54:42Speaker 1: North Carolina. Heyl he was a quarterback. What's up Eldred ladies?
- 54:47Speaker 1: How are you doing good? Hey, Evan? I agree with you. Oh,
- 54:52Speaker 1: time to do it at nineteen ninety giants people, because
- 54:57Speaker 1: I can't understand with this GM I've been having for
- 55:01Speaker 1: fifteen years. Replaced it. But but you will pay Jonathan
- 55:06Speaker 1: Jones twenty million. But you could have got Rammed for
- 55:09Speaker 1: a third and pay him to pay him twenty million too,
- 55:12Speaker 1: like the Dolphins did. And I just can't understand those moves.
- 55:17Speaker 1: They could have done both. They could have resigned Jonathan
- 55:21Speaker 1: Jones and traded for Jail and Ramsey thank you, Yeah,
- 55:25Speaker 1: round a third round, but he'll give a second round
- 55:27Speaker 1: to a drive up wide receivers the new you know
- 55:29Speaker 1: death would death gets my blood up and delude you
- 55:34Speaker 1: on one thing. Two things den I appreciate from two
- 55:38Speaker 1: thousand nineteen. Della Harry could have got McCartin of Decalvil
- 55:43Speaker 1: like I want. He can't make Cavin like I won't,
- 55:45Speaker 1: or even one of the other guys like I told Paul,
- 55:47Speaker 1: which he ridiqued him. Out dinner date. I told him
- 55:52Speaker 1: he's been yelling at me for years, two years. You
- 55:54Speaker 1: want to get rid of Harry, and after the first year,
- 55:57Speaker 1: everybody draft before Harry and after Harry's better than Harry,
- 56:00Speaker 1: and he he can't blame the guy. I'm just mad.
- 56:05Speaker 1: I'm still last year's out of the league. You had,
- 56:09Speaker 1: you had got strain, but a Lobla was sitting there.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Pickens was sitting there. The guy from North North Oregon State, Watson,
- 56:18Speaker 1: was sitting there. You have some corners, get some linebackers
- 56:21Speaker 1: he picked up. You pick a comfound guard, you get
- 56:23Speaker 1: a guy in the fourth round. Like I said, his
- 56:25Speaker 1: GM days is I don't understand him. I just can't
- 56:28Speaker 1: understand how you build a team with high IQ less
- 56:32Speaker 1: talent because you could get the same team you got now.
- 56:35Speaker 1: And I just can't understand that. Yeah, it to me, Frank,
- 56:38Speaker 1: I just can't. All right. Other than that, I guess
- 56:42Speaker 1: I just don't look for it. No, I look where
- 56:45Speaker 1: my guys go and I come back and say, well,
- 56:47Speaker 1: they kicked out. But when when we played him, that's
- 56:49Speaker 1: all I keep saying. All right, but we're playing all right.
- 56:52Speaker 1: As how I feel, Yeah, how I feel he's got
- 56:57Speaker 1: that twenty nineteen draft on lockdown. He knows everybody draft
- 57:04Speaker 1: the ships sailed of what I'm talking about with like
- 57:06Speaker 1: the antiquated views of what a player is because the
- 57:11Speaker 1: last five years, the amount of wide receivers that have
- 57:13Speaker 1: stepped into the league and had a lot of success
- 57:15Speaker 1: blows away. Like twenty years ago, they used to be
- 57:20Speaker 1: a transition at that spot. I don't think that exists anymore.
- 57:23Speaker 1: It's just the kind of player too. Like you consider
- 57:25Speaker 1: the direction the league is going, like what about and
- 57:27Speaker 1: the kill Harry's body type tells you that, like this
- 57:30Speaker 1: is what we need. But they're all different too. Like
- 57:32Speaker 1: there's big, strong, physical receivers like Metcalf, There's there's speed
- 57:36Speaker 1: burners like DeVante Smith. There's slot guys that have come
- 57:39Speaker 1: in and done it. You know, there's guys that are
- 57:41Speaker 1: well rounded, like Terry McLaurin. It's not even just like, well,
- 57:45Speaker 1: there's one kind of guy that you know, it's really
- 57:47Speaker 1: suited that college RPO system is really benefited and they're
- 57:51Speaker 1: just college teams throw the ball so much more. They're
- 57:55Speaker 1: much more polished now when they get into the league
- 57:58Speaker 1: and they have seven on seven camps, grow up. But then,
- 58:00Speaker 1: oh yeah, these kids know how to catch the football.
- 58:02Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna take up Breakpaulse Foods here. We'll
- 58:05Speaker 1: be right back after this. Verizon, the network America relies

- 1:07:30Speaker 1: to help out. Dave here, he's from Lancaster, California, says
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: years ago in the show, there was a conversation you
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: had about washing machines and how you had to buy
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: a new one. I need your help. I can't remember
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: what brand you said was the best. Speed Queen is
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: where you want to go? Now? I remember this now
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: that you know the problem with Speed Queen is you
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: don't get all the bells and whistles. It's not like
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Samsung ERLG where you get this and that. The other
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Steam clean. But if you if you want just if
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: you want aventeen years, if you want an American made
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: wash or with a steel drum, that's just gonna last.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Speed Queen is where you want to go now you
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: haven't if you have today, If you have a huge family, though,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: you might want to go with one of the bigger,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: you know, brands that you can do bigger loads, not
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: a fantom Maytag. Maytag is good, durable, Yeah, but I
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: like Speed Queen. The problem with all appliances nowadays is
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: they're not built to last. But that's why you go
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: with Speed Queen. What's the different Speed Queens are the
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: ones used in the laundry mats? They just go, but
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: they're built to give you five to ten years, not
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: to Speed Queen. Okay, all the guys, all the guys
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: that sell all of these different things are French lights,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: right Queen. Like I said, I if you're looking for
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: just a basic Speed Queen washer, dryer, American made steel drum,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: no plastic, you go. You go with the Speed Queen. Now,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: some people say they're a little it's a little tough
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: on the clothes, little off on him, but I'm going
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: to fight out it doesn't clean the clothes, steal drum
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: with sharp edges. I just I just wanted to help
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: out date there. I'm sure. I'm sure he feels right.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: You could be standing in the store and its right,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: you're right, you know. Let me and tell me about
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: this the guys you're calling a radio show. What I am?
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: I'm standing in the middle of the store and I
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: forgot with friends. Let me check in with friends. That's
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: another great moment from all right back, Karon, Patriots unfil
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: to date five five paths. I forgot about a hot line. Yeah,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I forgot about like, well into the conversation, you're going
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: some people say they're a little hot on the clothes, right,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: what does that mean? You can't you can't wash you
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: jeans three times? That actually kills one of our trivia
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: questions that we were gonna do giving away a T shirt.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: But sorry, we could bury that and yeah, use that
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: in a couple of weeks. Why don't we do one
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: now that you want to give away, let's do it. Okay,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: you're ready, Matt. Okay. Matt is the keeper of the answers,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: So the first person who emails a correct answer to
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: web radio at Patriots dot Com wins a Patriots Unfiltered
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: T shirt. So the question is, what was the subject
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: of Eric's book that was never published? Written but never published.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: You know what's funny is I think in my like
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: audition episode when I just came in randomly that that
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: topic came up and we started talking about it um
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: right off the bat, and he was very very close
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: to the vest about his project where it was headed
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: in the rose Bok. We gotta get a publisher, you
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: gotta get an agent. I know, Fred, I'm trying to
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: get an agent. It's really hard. But I was trying
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: to convince it to self published. You can do that now,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: you should. I don't know. I mean there are people
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: out there like writing. They probably have chat GPT write
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: a kid's book and then they have like some other
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: AI thing animated and then they're selling like a children's
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: book before you know what, and you know, making money
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: on the side. So I hit, I mean, I don't
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: want to give anything away. Winter. We have a photo,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: all right, Stop with your stop with your answers, because
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: I see the emails are going nuts. What was who's
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: had the first one? Our friend Dan in Virginia and
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Michigan and the answer is Africa. Africa. It was an
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: ode to Africa with a little romance. I think my
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: line was I was like, oh, what's the book about,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: and I was like Africa, and I'm like, it's very broad,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: generally Africa. He went to Africa for two weeks and
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: so we decided he knew one enough to write a
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: book looking for n That was not what I was expecting,
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: very very arrogant. What Paul is like in Tears. I
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: don't know how upon the Serengetti, a young bald Rhode
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Island makes his way writing an elephant, but you know
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: how like, um, you know, we shouldn't say because he's
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: not here, but you know how, like a good story
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: has layers, like there's the main story and then there's
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: sub stories, like the sub story. The substory in this
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: because Exerts had been published to the web. Um was
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: this woman who he was in love with that wouldn't
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: answer his phone call? That was the should probably pull back.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: Wait a minute, so you read the story, you're somehow
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: somebody got their hands on exerpts and got to the
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: cheese exerpts. Exerts. Yeah, you so you read you read them? Yeah,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: on the web. Oh, the Peu fans were relentless on Eric.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Like he used to photo. He would water mark, watermarks photos.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: It's like photos that he would put online his personal
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: photography's going to lift his So every week for the
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: pregame show, you take a picture of the studio, right,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: did you ever think to watermarket? No, Eric would. My
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: My watermark was Hardy photo bombing every single one of
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: my pictures. That's right. Yes. Tomaro would take a picture
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: with Mike in the background and Hardy would sneak over
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: literally and someone commented like I posted like, someone was like,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: is that Hardy in the back? I'm like, yes, it
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: is every single photo, the one and only guy. I'm
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: just that was apparently an easy one because we had
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: a ton of emails and yeah, we're looking to give
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: away the merch. Yeah, it's tough with those common themes
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: that we would hammer Eric every now and then they
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: come up every show. That was classic though, Fragles, you
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: went to Africa for two weeks and you're an expert,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: so a lot of harrumping. It's true, though, isn't it. Yes,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Fred Okay's wondering Heaven is still here. He just doesn't
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: like we veer our away from the stay front target,
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: stay on target. One person, so he would have hated
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: the talk we had about soap for like three episodes
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: in a row. Oh, don't get us started on that.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: One person's answer about what the topic was was cheese. No,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: that wasn't corrected about cheese. But I like when we
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: do this because it shows me how many people are
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: listening to the show, Because like there's a ton of
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: emails that now just came in and like within moments,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: moments moments all right, eight five five passive taken a
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: hotline web radio atpages dot com is the email address.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: We'll do another one, uh to give away another T
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: shirt later in the show, But let's go back to
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: the phones. Scott Chris is in Scottsdale. Scott Chris, you guys, okay,
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: So the rejoint that we have right and bear with me.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: We're in the off season, so give me just a
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: little bit of time here, Fred. But the rejoint, okay, um,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: the best one ever and you guys don't do it anymore?
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Is the ben Are you hung? That was good? You
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: can do that again? I okay, Fred, Yeah, I'm with
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: my girl. The other day and I'm listening to like
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: an old episode and that that rejoint comes on and
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: it caught me unawares that we're talking. I'm drinking, I'm
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: taking a sip of my water and the Benner you
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: home comes on and I literally crishy does it to me?
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Once a show? Oh my god? We were both dying.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Uh yeah, when you were like oh god at the
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: end of it. Yeah, So that that rejoint And then
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: and then here's the other one, Fred where you and
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Andy were arguing about the pipe that goes in it
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: goes in hard but comes out wet. Yeah, that was
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: the turf. That's the turf. And Arizona. Yeah yeah, the turf.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: There we go. So anyways, and I'm keeping it clean.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: That's I just you know, so marine corps and feel
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: like you've got to hit the atom bomb on me.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Someone needs to add that Twitter account that's like Patriots unfiltered,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: no context. That would be very interesting. There is a
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Twitter I don't know, you haven't seen it. It's so funny. Okay,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: there's classic fread both of those. But anyways, okay, so
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: then Evan, I wanted to say this to you, man,
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: I'm really, really, really happy that you're that you've joined
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: the show. I really, honestly, this is my my honest take,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: because I feel like you've you've really added a lot
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: that I think, and this is going to be kind
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: of controversial or funny, uh that when Big had left
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: the show and not that he's you, I find you
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: a little bit more informative and you know, closer to
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: a lot of the things that interest me on players
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: and development and all that. But I'm just really really
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: pleased with the fact that you're part of the show, man.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I think you really thank you. Yeah, Man, after any left,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: how you didn't like what happened after left the show
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: went down. That's how I took that, dude, all right?
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: Football wise, guys, Um, so it's Paul, you know, man,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: I message you and everything like that, And you know
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: you're you're big on when when people have take, you're
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: big on like, hey, you know, don't just tell me now,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: like you know, tell me before it happened. I like
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: to know your thoughts on people before they become patriots
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: or ex patriots. As I was joking around with my
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: my colleagues on the way, it'd be nice to talk
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: openly about John ou Smith now that he's no longer
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: a Patriot. I don't thin people helped back while he
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: was here either anyway, not used right. I just remember
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: I just remember writing you at draft time when DK Metcalf,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: you know, like to you know, Eldred his his whole thing,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: which he's hilarious. I love him, but um, you know
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: when when when we had that draft that basically was
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: you know, wanting DK Metcalf to be our selection, we
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: had two cracks at it. And that just leads me
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: to this this whole offseason, you know talk, I think
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: you guys are finally, finally, finally starting to kind of voice.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: I think you probably all privately felt the frustration of
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: what we do in the draft, what we don't do
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: in the draft, what we do in preg what we
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: don't do in free agency. Where I've been, you know,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: beating this drum, even when we had Brady talking about
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: how we didn't have star wide receiver. Ever, what could
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: he have done with a r Moss kind of guy
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: all the time, And I realize he's extra extra level
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Randy Moss, but I'm just saying, like a Hopkins where
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: he just Bill just refuses to invest the draft capital
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: or invest in the free agency to grab a guy
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: like that. And I think you know, Fred finally said
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: you know what, which really pleased me. I think it
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: was Fred who said it today where you know we're
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: learning now that it or no, it was Paul where
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: I think when you guys said that we're learning now
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: that a lot of this was bread. You know how
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: this system of the way Bill does things works because
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: of Brady. But guys, this is a borning product. I
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: mean just from a fan's perspective, and I think you
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: know that mister Kraft needs to understand that. I'm sure
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: he does, but like as a fan, it's boring to
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: watch this brand of football, and when you don't have
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Brady out there, there's nothing to even captivate me man,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: other than my love and leads to the team. But
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I wanted to hear your thoughts on that, guys, And
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: thanks for hearing me out on everything today, Thanks Chris. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I mean offensively, certainly. I mean, it was just not
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: an NFL our offense. Last year, We've said it, we
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: said it many times. No, I feel like I was
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: constantly repeating myself on Patriots Unfiltered on TV saying the
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: offense was so unesthetically pleasing. And it's like when I
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: think about when we go into the locker room and
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: we talked to the defensive guys and we're like, you
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: know what um stands out to you about the posing
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: team's offense. They would have so much to say either
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: about oh Jamar Chase or oh Burrow. When you think
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: about playing our offense, like what is the other team saying? Right, like,
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: oh Mac Jones Probably there's just nothing. Yeah, yeah, like
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: there's just no there's no it's factor, there's nothing scary.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: There's nothing that's scary, that's nothing that's challenging. Yeah. You
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: weren't allowed to talk about our relationship on the don't
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: public ms, So yeah, I think it's boring. It's not
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: fun to watch for us, it's not fun to watch
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: for the fans. We were talking about this yesterday about
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: training camp and when you go out to training camp
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: last year, even there was just no buzz, like there's there.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: The only buzz was the fights. There was no buzz.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: The attendance wasn't great. It just felt dead. And from
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: that standpoint, and it's not all about this, but from
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: that standpoint, a trade for DeAndre Hopkins, a big swing
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: in the draft for a Jackson Smith and jigbad fourteen,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: Like if they traded for DeAndre Hopkins and we come
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: out here on July twenty sixth or whenever training camp opens,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: the Hopkins jerseys and the chance and not like it
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: would bring some some much juice to the whole thing.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: And I don't think you can underrate that stuff. And
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: like we I think try to get into like well
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: would you take player X and how do you see
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: player X fitting in? And like there's a macro level
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: of this that just doesn't really matter. It's more about
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: does this guy have some name brand? Is this gonna
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: bring some excitement? Is this gonna put some butts in
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: the seats at training camp? In the game? And I
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: agree somebody Hopkins, there needs to be a big swing,
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: and not a big swing on a mediocre like mid player.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: It needs to be a big swing on a big
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: player Like that's what needs to happen. Yeah. On the
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: AH ticket hotline, what's up, William? What's going on? Fred?
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: How you doing all right? Uh? To the last caller
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: that you had and to what Tamara was saying, Yeah,
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: it is born. I mean it's it's horrible. It's damn
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: they are disgusting basic you know, just no, you don't
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: have no premium, no talent, no, just no excitement, no nothing.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: And it seemed like we're going in that same direction
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: for another season again. And I'm wondering, like, what is
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: mister Kraft is doing. I mean, when he stepped in
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: and whatnot in terms of the offensive coordinere, I just
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: maybe thought he might step a little bit more in
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: terms of free agen see in the draft. Not saying
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Netland though, but like, you know, lighting a little fire.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: I need to feel, you know what. Basically just to
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: you know, good things jumping, like, look, bring some talent
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: in here. You know you've got you have the money
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: and spent it's not builds money, so spend no, spend
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: some money whatnot. And also to the Jacobe thing, Samarin, look,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: I know you are big Jakobe fan. I take that
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: from from me. I mean, he's he's okay, he has
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: a hell of a story. He has worked his tail
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: off and everything. No, I salute to the man in
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: the morning a little bit too him. All right. So
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: but um, the thing is, I'm not burnt by him
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: leaving though, But I see that you are. How do
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: I say you are subtracting? You're not addie players, you know?
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: And why Nelson Aguilar even is even still on the
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: teams though he's not on the tissue with that. And
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Jakobe Myers is productive, way more productive than Nelson. Yeah,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: Ago is going to Yeah Goo is a free agent.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: He's a free agent. He's not on the team. Okay,
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: is Jabrill Peppers coming back? Is there? He's a free
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: agent coming back? Wow? I mean guys like Jabrill Peppers.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: We have a very loud, thanksfull fan base for Jabriel Peppers,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Like everybody really likes Jabrill Peppers. I like Dreill Peppers too.
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: But I mean he's gonna get one year, three and
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: a half million dollars to come back to the Patriots
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: at some point over the next couple of weeks. If
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: they had um, if he was a different kind of safety,
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: if he was more of a center field type safety,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: I would say by all means, I just feel like
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Dugger is much better than that in that style. And Phillips.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: I'm a little worried about Phillips. I thought tailed off
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: at the end of last year. So if you want
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: to bring back Phillips as like I mean Peppers as
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: Phillips Insurance. Yeah, like, like Evan said, for a one
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: year deal. Sure, but I don't think he's better than
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: either one of those two guys. Now, he's smaller, but
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I think I just like how he plays because he
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: just is kind of like a wild card and is
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: willing to stick his nose in there. And I had
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: a fifteen yard penalty every other game. No, I like too,
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: but I just he's not a needle mover, like you're
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: gonna pay him, especially manimal money, and he's gonna come
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: back and do what he did last year, which is fine.
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: I'm just not super all right, Josh, You're next on
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Patriots untalented, I mean Patriots unfiltered? What Wow? What's up? Good? Hey,
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: I'd love to play. It's kind of a game, but
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I think it'll it'll lead to, uh, a little bit
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: more of a discussion. I don't I don't know if
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you guys remember the Great Jersey debate a couple of
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: years ago with Megan. Yeah, yeah, with Megan. Yeah, I'm
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: not personally a Jersey owner, but first take of the
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: game and the discussion, let's just say everyone is if
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: you had to buy a jersey of a of a
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: player on the team, Now, who would it be. I
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: think it's just leading to the conversation of who you
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: think the core of the team is. And in light
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: of free agency and even someone like Jacobe who felt
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: like a Patriot through and through of sorts, we know
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: that they just end up leaving to a different team
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: at some point. And so I'd love to hear what
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: you guys think is is the core? Who you hope
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: to be here? It's a hard one three to five years.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: Maybe a Marcus Challenge jersey Kyle Dugger. Yeah, just to answer,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: I got a Judean shirt from my son at the
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: start of last season, knowing that he was going to
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: be on the team that you know last year and
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: this year. I think that's all the Like Dougger, I
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: think it's a great candidate. He could be gone next year,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: but he'll be a free agent, so I don't know
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: what they're gonna do. Yeah, no, they won't pay him.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: I was gonna pick jude on Judean, I is. I
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: got one for TJ last year. Um at the beginning
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: of the season, Vermandre Stevenson. But I think same kind
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: of thing with Dougger. I think he could be here
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: for two more years and go. But I think you
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: get you had a couple of years out of it
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: to shirt. I think that's worthwhile investment. But the caller's
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: point is is valid. Yeah, what did you say, Mike?
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: This the only only the twenty twenty five, the only
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: people in a contract on this team twenty one draft class.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: So you can end up having twenty one guys under
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: contract for twenty twenty five after the draft because they're
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: gonna draft eleven guys. Well, like they am I crazy
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: for harpering on this so much? Like I feel like
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: I'm like saying it, and everyone's like, yeah, that's just
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: kind of how it is. Like I it just feels
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: to me like you draft guys, you develop them, they walk.
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: He signed some free agents, they walk. I'm gonna go,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: fred I just like, does it matter. I'm not telling
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: you you're you're crazy for harping on it, but I
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: need more information. I need to know what everybody else
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: has under contract in twenty twenty. It's common, I would say,
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: across the league to not have guys signed for that
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: far out out of the books. But the problem is
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: is who do you even want to bring back past
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: twenty twenty, Like Who's I think that's the bigger part
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: of the question, right, right, that's who I say, I
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: need to know who, like if if so? The Patriots
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: have ten guys from that twenty one class eleven okay,
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: so eleven guys. So maybe the other team's you know,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: high end is fifteen guys. Low end is eight guys.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: But of those eight guys, you know, six pillars of
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: your team as opposed to right, you know, I don't
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: even know who twenty one draft class off the time,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: I mean the last the last time that they gave
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: a second contract to a draft pick was I think
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Shack Mason, which is who got traded again by the way, yeah,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: a couple of years ago. And then before that it
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: was High Tower was the last Patriot draft pick to
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: get a second contract with the Patriots. So that's that's
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: the part. That's the bigger point, Evan. And like, you know,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: as much as I could say, oh, I'd like to
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: resign Kyle Dugger, I'd like to somebody sign Michaelman. You
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: I'd even like to resign Josh Ucha or any one
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: of those guys, Like, do I pound the table and
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: say these guys are part of the culture here and
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: are going to be the playmakers over the next five years.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: And they're like, I don't know. I replaced those guys,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Like I don't. But if not, then it's a bigger problem,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: you know. Yeah. The only person I can see them
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: doing that too, is like keeping is like if Marcus
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: Jones has if he has the same production every year,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: then I would keep it. They'd keep a Marcus Jones
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: because it's cost effective. Like Marcus Jones is gonna get
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: like a Jonathan Jones type contract extension ADS not a
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: number one receiver, right returner, slot corner right, and so
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: they'll pay him ten million a year and that will
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: be a value extension. But it's like if even what
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: you're saying, like it's just hard as a fan to
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: get attached to players and to be like, you know, oh,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: I love this guy. I love him. You know. It's like, well, yeah,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: you love Kyle Dugger. He might be gone next year,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: so I know, I just as a fan, I find
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: I find we're very defositive. Today. David's in New York.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: What's up, David? You can blame the weather for that, Hey,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: guys doesn't go he's good. Uh So to that point
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: with the jersey thing, I I have one jersey foul
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: in my collection right now and it's Malcolm Butler number four, Jervey.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: That's funny. That's actually a deep dive though, Like youah
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: to get that made? Right? Oh? Yeah, yeah, I got
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: accustom made. It was a decision. I haven't worn it since.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Do you like number four? Right? I do like the
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: number four? And that was the fourth the fourth Super Bowl.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: You got the interception. I think you can still wear.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna allow it. I'll allow it. Wow
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: you are? You are? And allow the point question more like,
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: is there a is there a free agent out there
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: that you know you'd still be interested in? Like I don't.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: I don't. I feel like my top two guys were
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Omans and Bates, but you know, obviously gone and I
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: don't really know really many people I'm interested in right now,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: So I'll take it up here. I think, Evan, I
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: think I don't remember the names that you had, but
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: didn't you put something out of guys and I got
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: trashed on despite the fact that that's who's available everybody,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: Like there's guess what. They just proved that you'll get
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: trashed for whatever. They sat out the first wave of
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: a free agency. So the Jesse Bates, I can't put
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: him on a wish list anymore because he's an Atlanta Falcon.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: Is Bibert Murphy still available? He is. I feel like
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: I'm at my fantasy football draft. I'll take Bibert Murphy.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: I actually liked the idea of Paris Campbell too. I
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: liked him coming out and he finally was healthy last
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: year and put up some numbers. He's kind of, you know,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: a gadgety speed slot type of player, around a four three,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: you know, give him some speed. Kayla McGarry still out there.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: I mean, I know Orlando Brown still out there, but
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: I mean that's gonna be twenty million dollars a year
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: that they won't spend. So Caleb McGarry, I think is
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: one of the names. He's not a good pass blocker,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: but he's an elite run blocker, and they're going to
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: play him at right tackle, where they usually put the
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: bigger run blockers on that side of the line. So
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I think that he's somebody that's like an immediate plugin
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: played right tackle. But in terms of the rest of it.
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: I mean you're I think there's some interesting value guys
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: at tight end, Like if they want to add another
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: veteran tight end just right, those guys are going to
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: be expensive. But like some guys like Austin Hooper or
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Foster Moreau from the Raiders, or just as another veteran
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: to keep an eye, just another veteran player, just so
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: that when you draft somebody at tight end, you're not
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: putting it all on their plate to immediately contribute. That's
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: a position that through the draft. As good as this
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: draft class is, that position still does take a couple
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: of years sometimes for guys to really stick out at
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: tight end. So maybe you add somebody like that can
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: cost you five six million on a contract, so not
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: much money, but at least gives you some Hunter Henry
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: insurance and allows you to ease in whichever rookie take
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: in the draft. Island of Foster Moreau, remember that movie? Yeah?
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Was that a god? What's his face? Island of Doctor Moreau? Yeah,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: Michael York, I think some of these movies from like
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I just remember the video case from them, from going
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: to like our local video store before even Blockbuster, and
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: like just the movie poster of it. God, that was
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: a while ago. Didn't even a monkey in it. Well,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: it was all about this Island South. They were becoming
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: good human Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, Caleb and Knoxville says,
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: I think the team is too far away from winning
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: anything more than a few regular season games to spend
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: good chunks of money to guys who aren't going to
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: be meaningful impact players in terms of winning the division
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: or conference. We need to be all right with being
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: irrelevant for a couple of years while the rest of
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: the league gets a little older, and hopefully we can
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: draft a few key pieces in this draft and next.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: See that's I can't agree with that way. If thinking
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: he's assuming the rest of the league's gonna stay put,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: nothing stands still. You also like, actually in that league, Yeah,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: I think it's just not even try. I think you
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: wave the white flag. But I think it's the easiest
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: league to go from bad or mediocre to go to good.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: Like you see it every year. There's how many playoff
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: teams change from one year to the next. Yeah, Like,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: did anybody have Philadelphia as a Super Bowl contender coming
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: into the season. They were? They were. It's not like
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: they were a fluke. They were like a sleeper super
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: Bowl contender no one knew was going to be who
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: didn't miss pick him up stairs. And I think the
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: other issue that you have is just we were also
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: talking about this. I think Bill's too good of a coach.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: If you want to go full rebuild, youre trying to
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: make up for everything that he said the first hour. No,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: because I separate build a coach and build a GM
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: there are two different people. Build a coach. I think
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: it's going to coach you to the fourteenth in the draft,
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: assuming that the roster is what the roster has been
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: in the last couple of years, and you're not rebuilding.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: The fourteenth pick isn't getting you anywhere. It's not it's
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: not getting you a quarterback, and it's not getting you
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: a top five premium Will Anderson type of talent. I
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: got you a quarterback. I don't you know quarterback quarterback?
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: Thank you. I agree every single look at the COVID year,
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: fifteenth pick in the draft, fourteen pick in the draft
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: when they missed the playoffs. Now, so you're not even
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: picking in the top ten because Bill's coaching you to
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: seven eight nine wins, get a crappy coach in a
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: top pick. I saw that I was interesting. I always
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: here to reach an agreement on an extension. I think
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: that might be good for them. That's like one of
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: those where the two rely on him and like what
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: he does when he's healthy, and like just get playing
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: every game? Last year? Did he? I had him? Finally,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: I had him in Fantasy carried my team. It's a
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: productive guy. No no running backs. Let's go to rashot
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: in Baltimore. What's up, rashot Hey? What's up? Every Hey? Um? First,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: before I saw, I gotta say, Mike U. I heard.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: I heard everything he said, and I mean pretty much.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: That's That's pretty much what everybody who doesn't want Lamar,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: that's what they say. You know, he gets injured, and
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: you know he's inaccurate. But my thing is, would you
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: rather that? Or would you rather have Mac Jones? Would
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: you rather Mac Jones making forty million a year or
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: whatever it is, which would rather have Lamar? You know?
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: But I understand that. But that's that's the that's the
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: argument that I've been getting all weekend. I don't want
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: him because he's going to be hurt. But yeah, there's
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: a chance anybody can get hurt. No, I understand it.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: But my but my question is have the Patriots ever
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: paid anybody over one hundred millions? Like I know they've
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: given out like five years for sixty five millions something
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: like that, but like when is the last time they
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: paid somebody like you know, a contract that's over in
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: the contract Fred, thank you, and and that then drew
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: that that and I see all these contracts going out,
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: like you know, the the right tackle to the Broncos
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: and even like the like the the the defensive tackle
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: to the to the forty nine. Is like I'm like
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: the Patriots are not giving out these type of numbers,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: Like it's no way like we're going to pay somebody
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: four years ninety millions, you know stuff like that. So
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: all like all these breeds and stuff is like it's
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: type dreams. So I really don't know what to expect,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: like like I'm still dreaming, like I don't I really
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: don't know where they should go because it's it's a lot.
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: It's a lot of places they need to go. And
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: if they go the wrong place and take the wrong player,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: like you know, it's it's it's a whole lot. So
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: just sending them contracts and knowing the history of the Patriots, like,
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: they're not going to change who they are, right, Well,
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: you've got to adapt, adapt or die, is what they say,
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: adapt or die. Thanks for shod I think Rashad shares
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: the sentiment from a lot of Patriots fans that I'm
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: seeing emailing into the show right now. Yeah, that's probably
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: where my concern lies. Is not that I think it's
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: too late to do anything. It's just I don't really
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: have a lot of confidence that those kinds of impact
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: moves will be made. And I'm not saying they need
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: to do what they did in twenty one, you know,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: and signed five, six seven guys to significant contracts, but
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: I'd like to get a piece or two. So, as
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: Evan said earlier in the show, you don't have to
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: get it all in the draft because you can't get
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: it all in the draft, which is usually what they do. Like,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: I always feel like they will fill out their roster.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: So if they have to play a game on April fifteenth,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: like they could do it. It wouldn't be great, but
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: they've got it. Was really about that. I was thinking
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: I did the mail bag this week, right, No, I didn't.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: I mean last week, and oh no, it was my
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: it was it was my notes in the free agent thing,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: and of all the needs. Um, yeah, I knew because
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: I knew. It was like Monday, so you know, you
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: have tackle, wide, receiver, corner, all of you know, play
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: the hits. And I was like, I put punter on
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: the list too. But I think we can all assume
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: they're gonna have a punter on the roster, Like that's
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: not necessarily like a need that needs to be filled.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: That's a good point, you know what I mean, Like
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: they're gonna have a punter. Someone's gonna get signed and
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: be the punter. I'm not sure they're going to have
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: an athletic rangee linebacker that can go sideline to sideline.
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: You could play a game without one of those. And
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: I'm not sure that Tremaine Edmonds, who I was making
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: a case for in my notes, I'm not sure they're
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: going to do that, and they didn't. You know, Like,
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: I'm not sure they're going to have a number one
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: corner that you know, every team in the league will
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: consider their best corner. But they're gonna have a punch,
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: So I'm not putting punter on needs. That's right. That
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: was why we did the free agency previous and I
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: was like, do I do a special teams like it's specialist? Yes,
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: you should. They need all three man have a full
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: turner over there like tar Get putters the target. Free
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: agent putters the target and no, I wouldn't necessarily waste
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: much time doing that. Here's a great long I know,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: but there you go. I'll have him write it. Scott
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: writes in from Virginia. I know everyone is focused on
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: trading for a wide out and drafting one, but no
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: matter what they do, I feel the X factor for
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: this offense will be what Billy Oh draws up with
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: Tai Kwon. What do you think Bill's plan will be
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: to get Tai Kwon more touches? And can you see
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: him becoming the next slot receiver? Absolutely not, No, no,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: I can't. And I just I want to figure out
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: how they how they break up? You know, Parker, but
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: I miss you ruin my train of thought there, Paul.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: But I think my question is is you know you
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: have I think you have two outside guys in Parker
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: and Thornton. I think Thornton is kind of a speed
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: guy and I'd love to have him run more than
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: goes and comebacks. Uh, we know what we have with Parker.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: I mean I think that he's a piece. I don't
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: say that he's the number one guy, but I think
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: he's a piece. I think we saw that towards the end.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: He can have good games. He can be an effective
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: contested catch guy down the sidelines, just in the middle.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: How do you Kenrick Bourne, that's all you got to
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: work with right now? How do you, you know, play
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: find more guys to play with? Give Billy O'More things
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: because I just think between Thornton and Parker, you don't
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: have a lot of options. Like you're basically chucking the
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: ball down the field or you're throwing a comeback. It's
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: the same thing with the two guys on the outside.
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: I don't know how they fill in the middle. They've
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: got to KNOWLEDG Jacobe Gone, They've got to find a
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: way to build out that kind of Like, So can
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: I play way over the top? Positive Paul for a change,
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: kind of a break? I we need some positivity and
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: kind of a break from character. Is there a chance
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: with all of this excitement that I seem to be
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: missing on which matter? What do I miss reading. There's
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: a report that Rogers gave the Jets wish list of
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: guys that I knew it. I knew it. I was like,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: he's gonna come with it, like really too, Yeah, I
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: knew it. I was like, if they get him, he's
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: gonna come in asking for a wide receiver. He's gonna
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: ask for his own office. He's gonna so Evan, you know,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: would be one of these guys. And I've certainly heard
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: this from like Tom Curran and a lot you know,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: the whole Bill O'Brien factor, right, and that's gonna, you know,
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: increase the productivity across the board. Um, well, you said
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: he's gonna be positive. Is that this is positive? Is
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: there a chance that because of that in in you know,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: such a high level uh of competent increase over last
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: year with Billy O'Brien, that Kendrick Bourne becomes a really
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: productive guy, like not just a you know, every couple
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: of games he makes a bunch of plays and everybody's
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: like he goes out and catches eighty five balls for
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: twelve hundred yards. I don't think twelve hundred, but I
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: think he could replace Jacobe, Like I think that that
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: that's not good enough. But but I but if you're
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: if you're replacing him, having him or play Kobe as
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: let's just call it wide receiver three, and then you're
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: adding a one yards good enough because it's the best
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: you had. No, But but again add if Evan the
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: rest of what Evan said. Sure, if you have two
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: guys better than that, yeah, yeah. But what I'm wondering
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: is ken Kendrick Bourne. Can Bill O'Brien unlock whatever the
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: enigma is that is Kendrick Bourne, right, I think so
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: that's positive. Paul could I'm gonna say no, because we've
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: seen him play with Kyle Shanahan Josh McDaniels. I mean,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: he's played for very good offensive coordinators before and they
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: had really even him the unlock the last time. I'm
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: going to be positive he was good at He was
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: good in twenty one with McDaniels. Yeah, I thought he good.
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: I thought he was But I'm not saying in twenty one,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: down the last half of the season, he was arguably
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: the best receipt. I thought, I thought that he was good,
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: and I was hoping for him to build on that
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: last season. However he was However, I think his his
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: off the field stuff I think derailed what he could
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: have been and so I think that hopefully it wasn't
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: is off the field stuffed it well. It didn't help though.
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: I mean, I know where you're getting out with with
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: the offense overall, but I mean, but he didn't do
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: himself any favors with his whole transition. I can't blame
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I will not blame a single one of those guys
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: for the way that they responded to that whole situation. No,
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: I mean it started before that. It was before the
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: season even got going. Yeah, because they knew who their
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: coach was on the side of the ball and fighting
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: during camp like it was he because he knew who
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: the coach was, like the coach he attacked the Panthers.
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: Because because I want to add, you know, my list
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: of guys that I want to anybody that was on
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: the Patriots offense in twenty I am not going to
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: fall for any of those guys for speaking out or
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: being frustrated about the coach trouble, for telling everybody they
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: would change in the offense. Yes, I don't blame him.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: I would have done the same thing. Look like, it
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: doesn't matter whatever they did. It's right because they had
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: a guy that was going to be But what was
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: one of the guys that liked the change? True? No, right, No,
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: I think he said he thought they weren't doing it.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: He said they were running it wrong, said Ning that
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: that's exactly what that remind But who was the receiver
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: that early on set, I love what we're doing. I
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: mean it's probably him. Yes, that's because they went to
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: the podium in there in front of all of us, like,
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: of course they're gonna say the right thing. They talked
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: about it was allowed. I think Myers might have been
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: one of them, you know, allowed us to play faster. Yes,
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: in theory, but they hated it. No, not not the
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: fact that they changed it. They hated to Evans point,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: who was implementing the change, uh, Franklin at Baltimore. Not
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: resigning Myers will go down as a mistake. And it's
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: not because I believe he's a number one or that
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: he's as physically gifted as other wide receivers. It's because
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: for the money he signed for, you had a player
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: who worked well in your system, worked well with your quarterback,
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: and is the type of wide receiver who would thrive
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: with an actual number one garnering coverage. It's a bad move.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: We just cannot strive for more in this place. But
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: why I think he's driving for more? He would thrive
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: with a number one in place. How about we get
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: a better version of Jacobe Myers and a good wide
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: receiver to play off of them, Like, why does it
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: have to just be the same? I need to know
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: who that is then, because I think he's a rock solid,
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: complimentary piece. I don't think there were just a lot
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: of third receivers that are better than eighty five catches. Right.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: That's why I don't understand why everyone's like so quick
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: to say, oh, you know, it's okay, nice guy, But
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: it's okay because because there was always There's two things
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: with him that I just I couldn't get over. One
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: of the most important thing is that he gives you
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: nothing after the catch. And if you're going to play
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: that inside role and you're gonna catch the ball on
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: those underneath routes, if you can't add after the catch,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: it just limits your ceiling so much. And the other
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: thing I would say is I just never really looked
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: at him as like a dynamic player, like I do
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: you think that anybody I don't look at him as
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: a dynamic player. You're not as one, is he? Yes,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: eight hundred yards is now productive as a complimentary piece.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: I agree with you. You need better than that, But
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: you want to get better than him as that complimentary piece.
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: I don't think those grow on trees. I'm with Fred.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Why can't you have that and two guys better than him? Right?
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: You want two guys better than him and a guy
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: better than him for the third guy? Right, Yeah, because
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: everybody else has it. No they don't, Yeah, they do.
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: I'm sorry the teams that are playing in the playoffs
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: killed that they did not have a third guy like
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers. Okay, the guys that are the teams that
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: are playing in the playoffs last year, if we do
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: a draft of those of those receivers that were on
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: those teams outside of maybe Jacksonville, which I think is
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: the one caveat that I'll give you, although I actually
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: like Christian Kirk a lot outside if we had Jamar
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: Chase and Tee Higgins, Jacoby Myers would be even better.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: He'd beat Yeah, he would be. But you're not get
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: That's that's the one example of a team that actually
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: does have three really good receivers. Yeah, most of them don't.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: The Chiefs certainly didn't, right Chiefs, the Bills didn't. Yeah, right,
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: Like yeah, I mean, I mean, uh, what's what I'm
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: gonna say, Um, forty nine ers did they had Well,
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: they had a lot of weapons, yeah, you know, I mean,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: but not not just in the wide. And they had
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: the tight end it's as you can deeple but they
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: didn't have a third guy like I mean, yeah, he's
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: comparable to that. It's hard to have any three deep
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: that are, like, you know, the best at their position
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: at wide receiver. Well, I mean, I'm not asking for
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: the best at their position, but I just think you
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: can do. I think you can do worst than Jacobe
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Myers as yours your third Well, that's that's what I'm saying.
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: If you're better, if you're better than eighty eight hundred
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: and fifty yards at the number three, you're probably one
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: of the best number three wide receivers in the league.
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: But he wasn't gonna be in number three here, and
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: he wasn't gonna get eight hundred and fifty yards. If
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: you got I understand this, Like his production goes down
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: if you get two guys that are better than him. Yeah,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: but he is very reliable and very durable, right, and
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: just I think he worked well with Mac Jones. I don't.
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: I'm not going to lose sleep that they've lost him.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: I'm not. And but it isn't there something that's beset
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: about a guy who, if you agree that last year
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: was an absolute S show, could still produce. Don't We
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: always talk about the good players rise up even in
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: bad conditions too. He was a guy that rose up
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: even in a bad condition. Ye, I listen, I wish
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: we had him. I wish we kept him at eleven
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: million dollars. I do. Yeah, and let's get other guys
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: that are even better, guys better. And I'm with you, Yeah,
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: Like I understand wherever it's coming from. I'm not. This
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: is not one of my friend Paul arguments. This is like,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: I think Evan has a fear that if you bring
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: him back, you're not going to do the things that
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: we think that well, that would be a mistake. I'm
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: And on top of this, lessens the chances of that
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: now now they kind of happened. And on top of that,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: I still like we can go through all the great offenses.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: But in Patriots history, okay, you know the Oh seven offense,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: the eleven offense, like any offense you want to pick
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: it had Moss, right would be your number one guy.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: Gronk would be your number one guy. Welker and Edelman
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: were still a huge part of the offense, right, and
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: that would have been Jacobe Myers. He would have been
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: the number two receiver here, and his skill set as
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: a number two receiver is limited. It's capped. You don't
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: have any yak out of him. He's not somebody that's
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: twelve yards a catch, and that's that's fine, career high
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: and like yards pretty catch, six hippy. Much more than that.
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: It's Edelman's career high and yards yards after catch, yards
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: after catch, yards per catch. Okay. I don't care if
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: it comes before, during, or after the player resulted in
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: a game of something. If you're having somebody Myers's plays
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: resulted in an average of twelve yards pretty catch, okay.
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: But if you're having somebody in the inside of your
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: offense running out of the slot, and you're running these
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: quick hit routes that that Bill O'Brien has in his offense,
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: and every single one of them is nine. You're capped
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: at nine ten yards. I need somebody that's going to
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: take that eight yard duke er out and then go
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: twenty five yards with it because he breaks that wasn't
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: Welker and Edelman they weren't. I disagree they weren't doing that.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: I disagree they weren't doing that a lot. Did they
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: do it more often than Myers? Yes? Yeah. I think
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Welker was a sneaky guy to take down. He was
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: very sleep and Edlman was great breaking tackles. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: But the bottom line is the average per catch was
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: the same. Yeah. I don't care if he has to
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: break three tackles to get twelve yards. He got twelve
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: yards on average. And with Myers, I agree with Evan.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: He gave you a no yak. He caught it at
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: twelve yards, And like, what if like the play calling
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: or whatever was better and you had a little bit
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: more room to maneuver once you caught the ball. My
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: thing is, what if you actually had other receivers so
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: every third down it wasn't just make sure we stopped
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: because that's all they got to have, right, Edelman didn't
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: have to do that all the time. He did it sometimes, Yeah,
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: but he didn't spend his whole career doing that, right
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: like Myers has the last three years. Yeah. All. My
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: whole bottom line is I just did not watch Kobe
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: Myers back here in a high volume roll. That's it.
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: And I can understand. I didn't want to targets. And
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: I think that even if you go and you get
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins, that number two guy in today's NFL is
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: still getting one hundred targets. And you're thinking that if
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: you give any guy eleven million dollars, you're gonna expect
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: him to be high volume. Yeah. Yeah. And just the role,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: the nature of the role that he plays in the offense. Yeah,
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: because I know that that Zer role is gonna eat
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: up targets because it always has and it always will.
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: Brady in Winnipeg says, I have the sneaking suspicion now
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: after the last couple of days of an inactivity that
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: Bill and management thought the real problem of last season
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: offensively was not weapons and talent, but just the coaching
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: of staff. Billy o coming in for Patricia was the
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: real big change that needed to happen in their mind,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: and all the talk we've had about getting a true
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: wide receiver one is not a priority to them, it
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: is to us fans. I'm willing to hold out for
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: a bit here to have them prove me wrong with
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: some aggressive signings. But I think I'm of the opinion
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: now that it was really just an OC change that
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: Bill thought was necessary. But do you move backwards like
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: I I'm I'm okay with them letting go Jacoby Myers,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: but you still got to replace Jacoby Myers, and you
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: gotta give Bill O'Brien something to work with, Like I mean,
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: this is that that you're you're talking like that used
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: took a step back from last year's offense, Like you know,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: what does he want? What does he need to run
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: his offense? That's that's how I'm silver lining. The silver
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: lining that I have about all of this is that
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: Billy O's in there and he's saying, I like, Jacoby's
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: a great guy, but for my offense, I need something
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: a little bit different than what he brings to the table.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: And if I had to guess, it's that that jitterbug
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: quickness in the accability, Right, Jacoby's quick, but he's not
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: like in a foam booth quick that I'm not gonna
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: argue there, he's not. He's not that quick guy in
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: in small space to catches. Yeah. Also, wait, do we
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: really think that they think it was just bad coaching.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: I mean, the coaching situation was different, but um, I
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: think it was a mixture of everything, between the lack
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: of talent, the lack of discipline, and also the la
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: lack of experience coaching. I don't think it's just coaching. Like,
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: just hiring Bill O'Brien isn't going to fix everything. It's
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: hard to untangle at all. Their ceiling was capped by
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: the talent, but their floor was their floor because of
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: the coaching. Oh, that was good writing the I like that.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: That's that was good. That was that was that's actually
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: that's a Belichick isn't. But I players win games coaches,
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: I would agree with you, But I would say that
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: they didn't. They didn't get to their ceiling because of
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: the coaching. I think the players they had on the
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: team last year were better than what we saw. Yeah,
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: but they were always going to be Like maybe if
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: their coach, if they had Josh back, they would have
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: been the twelfth best scoring offense in the league or
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: something like that okay, So they were never going to
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: be a top five, top ten offense with the talent
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: that they had. The dirty secret is it wasn't a
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: great offense the year before either. It just wasn't a
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: train wreck like it was, right, That's that's true, Nicholas
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: in Oslo, Norway. Does Myers leaving make it more likely
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: the Patriots go wide receiver in round one? And if so,
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: would the most likely pick b JSN. He could probably
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: step right into Myers role in immediately immediately perform at
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: a higher level. I mean maybe, but it still seems
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: like fourteen is a bit of a reach there on
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: him even but I don't know at this point. I
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: just would take cornerback, wide receiver. I think those are
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: the priorities to get. So I'll give you another concern because,
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: as you guys know, I tried to be positive earlier
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: in the show, when you guys who proved I'm gonna
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: get back to being my New England self and just
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: being concerned about everything. So everything is starting around the
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: middle of the field. Everything is Billy O'Brien is always dominant.
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: So does anybody have any worry about a new guy
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: coming in and not necessarily transitioning to the offense very quickly.
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: I mean, my hope is that Bill O'Brien has been
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: to hoh Houston, he's been to Penn State, he's been
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: to Alabama, that he's had enough experienced outside of this system.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: I won't be blaming Billy O'Brien for it. Well, and
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: then you're just but then I blame the receivers who
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: haven't been able to pick it up very quickly. I
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: mean that's the same thing we go back to. Are
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: you worried about them drafting a receiver in the first round?
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's my point. I think anytime
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: you spend a first round pick on anybody, I'm going
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: to be worried about it, because at this point, if
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: you miss on those picks, it's like I lined Jackson
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: Smith and Jigburry and Jacobe Myers and had them do
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: a bunch of things athletically. I think we'd all agree
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: who the more athletic guy is. Yeah, I know that
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: Myers knew what he was doing. I don't know that
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: the other guy does. But in the same offense. No,
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: but their offense is pretty complex for a college offense,
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: all right, Quickly I hope you're right. And the one
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: thing that he would have going for them is Ohio
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: state wide receivers have been very good quickly. Another chance
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: to win a T shirt would close out the show again.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: First person with the correct answer to web radio at
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: Patriots dot Com wins. Matt, You're ready. Uh. The question
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: is what did Fred say to Ronald Robinson in the
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: sixth grade that caused Ronald Robinson to punch him in
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: the jaw? What did Fred say to Ronald Robinson in
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: the sixth grade that caused Ronald Robinson to punch him
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: in the jaw? Do you think Ronald Robinson's listening right
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: now and is going to call him? I don't hash
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: this out every once in a while. I don't know
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: if you guys do deep dives into like some of
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: the emails that come in every once in a while,
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: people from Fred's past reach out and connect to you.
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: Don't read any of those you just had that happened
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: like a month ago? Fred, Did you read that? No
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: a winner? What is the winner? Who is it? Cody?
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: But he doesn't say where he's from. Cody doesn't say yeah,
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: he got it. The answer is, who's the pussy? Now
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: you said that to him and then he punched ye,
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: well it's a lie, he said, it's to me. Yeah,
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: he called me that a couple weeks earlier, and then
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: I called him back and he said, say it again.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: I said it again, and he punched me a little offended. Mike,
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: that's a rejointless and learned. Yeah, yeah, yeah, don't made
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: it last week. Cody wins that one. Good job, Cody.
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: Good listeners right on top of it. Today. Oh my goodness,
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: the emails that come in man that people are listening. Uh.
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: Roman from Salzburg, Austria, that's a new emailer. Yeah. First
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: of all, I want to say I'm a long time
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: listener and I love your show. Thank you for everything
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: you do. You're all awesome. Question, do you have any
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: confidence that this team can be competitive when you see
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: our opponents this year? And can you say tell me
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: why New England is living in the past. Belichick did
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: awesome in the past, without question. But he has to
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: be fired a long time ago. I guess everywhere else
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: he would be gone a long time ago. I don't
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: get it. I don't believe anymore in Bill. Wow, that's
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: Roman in Salzburg Austria. I'm going to respectfully disagree that
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: the guy who won six super Bowl titles would have
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: been long gone a long time, right right, well in
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: a bubble. I don't agree with that, like just outside
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: of Patriots, Like a guy who was there for an
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: organization twenty years won a bunch of championships. How many
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: years do you get, like, you know, I mean just
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: not even Bill, like you know, like that he should
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: be above reproach and we should not question anything he does.
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: But I'm saying other organizations would have fired their guy
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: who won six titles by no after three bats which
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: one and really two bad seasons out of the three
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: because ten and seven playoffs is fine. It seemed like
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: you're on the up. Let's do a quick phone call
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: to close out the show. Bruce is in Maine, what's
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: out there? So I guess we can't close out the
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: show with Bruce. But anyway, I just want to say
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: that we had a ton of emails and they're all panic.
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: They're all panicky. Yeah, um, this isn't the first season
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: off season that we've had this situation, you know, But
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: I would just to that, I would say, like we
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: do have to relax it's this is just the tampering
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: period allowed, tampering period, right, Real free agency opens up tomorrow, right, Yeah,
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: but these guys that I know are signed, you're not
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: going to become available tomorrow, and those are all valid.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: I just think, like I underte him. Yeah, but there's
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: a lot of time. Yeah, and you got to do
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: the show within the moment. And this is what we're feeling.
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: Makes it good? Yeah, well in free agency, but I
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: haven't had his list this trade there was you know,
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: if we were at this point and already and you know,
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins got has already been moved to another team,
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: and maybe the Broncos, you know, Jerry Judy's moved to
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: another team, and the Patriots weren't those teams. And that's
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: one thing. But we're yeah, there's still players available, and
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: there still moves to be me still shows to be had,
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: and we're gonna have another one on Thursday. We're not done, please,
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: We're not. Hunter redfro for Myers. Is that like to me?
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: Six one a half dozen the other to you? Was
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: it a massive upgrade? Mass downgrade? What same thing? Yeah,
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: that Spider Man meme, I think six one a half dozen.
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: They all right, So that's it. Paul got the last word.
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: We'll see We'll see you Thursday at noon. Uh. Stay
