- 0:01Speaker 1: Well, hello and good afternoon everyone.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I do hope we're not too late for Tea.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Natasha.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Is it true just had any money for a good lawyer?
- 0:13Speaker 4: Harold Peabody. There is nothing more mysterious.
- 0:17Speaker 5: Than love, I miss Jean. Join me on a trip
- 0:28Speaker 5: to Discovery Mountain, where the air is clear, clear enough
- 0:32Speaker 5: to hear your imagination, and where every day is an
- 0:36Speaker 5: exercise in faith. Join me for today's expedition. Yesterday had
- 0:53Speaker 5: its share of ups and downs for both the staff
- 0:56Speaker 5: at Discovery Mountain Camp and some of the kids as well.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Joyce Holt decided to work on being a better, more
- 1:03Speaker 5: hands on camp director, which is good, but she's increasingly
- 1:07Speaker 5: worried that her brother James wants her job and that
- 1:11Speaker 5: mister Simon wants to give it to him. The campers
- 1:15Speaker 5: love the new costumes mister Garcia god for this year's
- 1:18Speaker 5: drama production, and they were especially impressed with the camel,
- 1:23Speaker 5: but they weren't so impressed with.
- 1:25Speaker 6: The Bible story.
- 1:26Speaker 5: They weren't convinced that the story of Eliezar the Servant
- 1:30Speaker 5: is worth doing. But perhaps no one had a better
- 1:34Speaker 5: or worse day than Hattie. Most of the kids seemed
- 1:38Speaker 5: bored by making clay teacups. At the end of the day,
- 1:42Speaker 5: she was in tears, but that's exactly when James showed
- 1:46Speaker 5: up and told her he wanted to court her. News
- 1:49Speaker 5: like that is hard to keep secret in a place
- 1:52Speaker 5: like Discovery Mountain Camp. This morning, people in the cafeteria
- 1:57Speaker 5: are already beginning to talk. Let's join up. Everyone in
- 2:00Speaker 5: today's episode called the extra mile.
- 2:05Speaker 7: Chaplain Jake, I'm going back for another cinnamon rule.
- 2:09Speaker 3: No, you're not logan.
- 2:10Speaker 8: You mean we can't have seconds.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean you.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Can't get another cinnamon roll unless you've got one for
- 2:16Speaker 3: me too.
- 2:16Speaker 8: Chapelain, Jake, have you heard heard one? Harold James is
- 2:20Speaker 8: taking Miss Hattie to court? What why would he do that?
- 2:24Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 2:24Speaker 1: I thought James liked Hattie.
- 2:26Speaker 10: Go ask Miss Natasha if you don't believe me. I
- 2:28Speaker 10: just heard her talking to her cabin about it.
- 2:30Speaker 5: I will meanwhile, over at Miss Natasha's cabin's table.
- 2:36Speaker 2: But doesn't it seem kind of, you know, weird?
- 2:41Speaker 11: I was thinking more old fashioned.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Brianna Hayley's right, it's definitely old fashioned.
- 2:46Speaker 12: But it does confirm my suspicion that they liked each other.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I think it's all weird, Natasha, is it true?
- 2:53Speaker 6: What can we do?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Does?
- 2:55Speaker 3: How do you need money for a good lawyer?
- 2:57Speaker 6: What are you talking about? Jake James is taking her
- 3:02Speaker 6: to court? This is a disaster, Jake, deep breass. No
- 3:07Speaker 6: one's going to court.
- 3:11Speaker 12: James is Wait, James is the one.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Going to court.
- 3:15Speaker 6: No, Jake James is going to court Hattie.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But why what did she do?
- 3:21Speaker 8: This is a wait? Could you just see that again?
- 3:25Speaker 6: James is going to court Hattie.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Huh, Courter, Well that's different.
- 3:32Speaker 8: This is not a disaster after all.
- 3:34Speaker 6: Huh, it's a it's some weird yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 3: I mean no, No, it's been fatal.
- 3:42Speaker 13: It's old fashioned, old fashioned, it's positively Victorian.
- 3:48Speaker 6: Let's finish up breakfast everyone. We need to finish straightening
- 3:51Speaker 6: up our cabin before you're all due in the drama tent?
- 3:56Speaker 5: And what does everyone think? Over at Cyrus and Addison's table.
- 4:01Speaker 7: It reminds me of a Victorian novel you'd find on
- 4:03Speaker 7: a dusty backshelf from the library.
- 4:05Speaker 8: I guess, aren't you interested?
- 4:07Speaker 7: Cyrus?
- 4:08Speaker 8: This is a big deal, Addison. They're just dating.
- 4:12Speaker 7: This is a way bigger deal than dating.
- 4:13Speaker 8: They're courting courting dating. It's the same thing.
- 4:18Speaker 7: No, no, it isn't. James and Hattie are serious. They
- 4:21Speaker 7: might get married.
- 4:23Speaker 12: Addison, can you please talk about something else?
- 4:27Speaker 7: Sorry, Lily, I forgot you don't like anything romantic. Just
- 4:32Speaker 7: wait a few years.
- 4:33Speaker 11: You might change your.
- 4:34Speaker 12: Mind, Madison. How could you say such a thing?
- 4:39Speaker 2: How's are Cyrus? We're going to the lake today, right?
- 4:42Speaker 14: That's right, Jackson, James's organizing. Can you races? This is
- 4:45Speaker 14: gonna be awesome?
- 4:47Speaker 15: The lake comes later, guys, First we have drama, then
- 4:50Speaker 15: the activities tent with miss Hattie.
- 4:52Speaker 14: H great, play about some servant dude, and then play
- 4:58Speaker 14: time with Clay.
- 4:59Speaker 2: This day from awesome to awful?
- 5:03Speaker 1: M maybe not?
- 5:07Speaker 2: What do you mean.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Jackson?
- 5:10Speaker 14: My men. Between the two of us, I'm sure we
- 5:14Speaker 14: can find ways to make our own fun.
- 5:19Speaker 6: Oh there's Joyce. Go on ahead, everyone, follow Addison to
- 5:23Speaker 6: the cabin. Hey, Joyce over here?
- 5:27Speaker 9: What can I do for you? Natasha? Do you need
- 5:29Speaker 9: a schedule?
- 5:30Speaker 13: Change?
- 5:31Speaker 9: More blankets in your cabin? Do you have a problem
- 5:33Speaker 9: to report?
- 5:34Speaker 6: I don't need anything, Joyce, but thanks for asking.
- 5:37Speaker 9: Are you sure it's my job to meet the needs
- 5:40Speaker 9: of all staff?
- 5:41Speaker 6: Wow, you're really in camp director mode, aren't you.
- 5:45Speaker 9: I followed the plan step by step. After all, I'm
- 5:48Speaker 9: the camp director, and that means staying on top of
- 5:51Speaker 9: any problems.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I suppose.
- 5:54Speaker 9: So that's why I was just in the kitchen going
- 5:56Speaker 9: through menus and a supplies list with Cook.
- 5:58Speaker 6: We shouldn't be running out of it anything yet. Camp
- 6:01Speaker 6: just started.
- 6:02Speaker 9: As I said, I need to stay on top of
- 6:05Speaker 9: things so I can prevent problems before they occur.
- 6:08Speaker 6: Well, I hope you got one of Cook's delicious cinnamon
- 6:11Speaker 6: rolls while you were in the kitchen.
- 6:14Speaker 9: No, actually, I guess I was too busy to think
- 6:17Speaker 9: about eating.
- 6:18Speaker 6: Too busy to eat a freshly baked cinnamon roll. Are
- 6:21Speaker 6: you okay?
- 6:22Speaker 11: Yes?
- 6:23Speaker 9: Of course. Why what have you heard? Who thinks I'm
- 6:25Speaker 9: not okay?
- 6:27Speaker 6: No one, I haven't heard anything.
- 6:30Speaker 9: Oh good. In that case, what did you call me
- 6:34Speaker 9: over for?
- 6:35Speaker 6: I wondered what you thought about James and Hattie.
- 6:37Speaker 9: About them courting. It's fine.
- 6:39Speaker 6: I admire how thoughtfully they're going about this. Not very modern,
- 6:44Speaker 6: but very wise, I suppose. So you don't sound very excited.
- 6:50Speaker 9: I don't. Well, no one was really surprised by this,
- 6:53Speaker 9: were they not?
- 6:54Speaker 6: Really? I think we all could tell that your brother
- 6:57Speaker 6: and Hattie liked each other.
- 6:58Speaker 9: There you have it. Now, if you don't mind, I
- 7:01Speaker 9: better get going. I plan to visit each area of
- 7:04Speaker 9: camp today.
- 7:05Speaker 6: Are you still worried about James replacing you as camp director?
- 7:09Speaker 2: Maybe?
- 7:10Speaker 6: I honestly don't think there's any reason to be. You're
- 7:13Speaker 6: doing a great job.
- 7:15Speaker 9: It's nice of you to say so.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I mean it.
- 7:19Speaker 6: After all, who else would be so serious about checking
- 7:22Speaker 6: supplies that they forget to eat one of Cook's cinnamon rolls.
- 7:26Speaker 9: Excuse me, Missus Donovan, but I must get back to
- 7:29Speaker 9: camp business.
- 7:33Speaker 6: Missus Donovan Toyce never calls me that. What is going
- 7:37Speaker 6: on this week?
- 7:41Speaker 4: Hey, Harold, hang on a minute.
- 7:43Speaker 10: What's up, Jennet? We're headed to drama class and I
- 7:46Speaker 10: don't want to be late.
- 7:47Speaker 4: I know what we can make our podcast about mountain mysteries.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Of course, mountain mysteries. What other podcasts would I be
- 7:54Speaker 4: talking about?
- 7:55Speaker 8: That's not what I meant. I know what our podcast
- 7:57Speaker 8: is called.
- 7:58Speaker 9: Good for a moment, I wasn't too sure about you.
- 8:02Speaker 10: What I meant was what mystery are we going to investigate?
- 8:06Speaker 12: What are the two topics that are sure to grab
- 8:08Speaker 12: people's attention?
- 8:09Speaker 9: Uh?
- 8:10Speaker 8: Video games in soccer?
- 8:11Speaker 12: No Harold, that's what you're interested in.
- 8:14Speaker 9: I'm talking about the listeners out there.
- 8:17Speaker 10: Okay, what two topics grab listeners' attention?
- 8:21Speaker 4: According to Brianna, his mom, and she should know because
- 8:24Speaker 4: she's a journalist, the answer is current events and human
- 8:29Speaker 4: interest stories.
- 8:30Speaker 8: Okay, do we have any of those?
- 8:32Speaker 16: Harold?
- 8:33Speaker 12: Weren't you listening in there?
- 8:36Speaker 4: Everyone in the cafeteria was talking about James and Hattie?
- 8:40Speaker 10: Oh yeah, I talked about them too.
- 8:43Speaker 8: I'm sure glad James isn't suing.
- 8:45Speaker 16: Hattie suing her?
- 8:47Speaker 9: Why would he do that?
- 8:49Speaker 17: He's not.
- 8:50Speaker 10: I just thought, well, you know the whole courting thing.
- 8:55Speaker 4: That's what I'm talking about. You are the whole courting thing.
- 9:00Speaker 4: We could do a whole podcast about it. In fact,
- 9:03Speaker 4: we could possibly do a whole series.
- 9:05Speaker 8: Of podcasts about James and Hattie.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Not just them.
- 9:09Speaker 12: We could interview other people.
- 9:10Speaker 10: Too, Uh, Jennet, As you reminded me yourself, our podcast
- 9:15Speaker 10: is called Mountain Mysteries.
- 9:17Speaker 8: Where's the mystery? Here?
- 9:18Speaker 12: Where's the mystery?
- 9:21Speaker 4: Harold Peabody, There is nothing more mysterious than love.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Hmm?
- 9:28Speaker 5: Is Jenet right? Think about it and we'll be back
- 9:31Speaker 5: after this sharp break. Let's join the campers in the
- 9:36Speaker 5: drama tend.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Hugo rehearsals about a start.
- 9:42Speaker 18: So tell me what you meant about making your own fun.
- 9:46Speaker 18: You're gonna stick inside the fake rock again.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Just watch Jackson. You'll see.
- 9:51Speaker 17: All right, campers, you all have your parts. So let's
- 9:54Speaker 17: get started, Uncle Ethan. Yes, Hugo, who's going to work
- 9:59Speaker 17: the camel? Oh? I forgot about that. It'll be a
- 10:04Speaker 17: tight fit, but I guess I'll have to do it.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I'll do it.
- 10:07Speaker 8: You're one of the camel drivers.
- 10:09Speaker 14: You have enough camel drivers. You need a camel, and
- 10:14Speaker 14: I can easily fit inside it.
- 10:16Speaker 8: Okay, thanks, Hugo.
- 10:18Speaker 18: Hugo, what are you doing? Why would you want to
- 10:21Speaker 18: be a camel? The camel doesn't even have any lines?
- 10:24Speaker 1: Of course, it doesn't have any lines. It's a camel,
- 10:28Speaker 1: So why do you want to be stuck inside it?
- 10:31Speaker 1: Because this camel is going to have a lot of fun.
- 10:35Speaker 17: Cyrus, you're Abraham, and I believe you have the first line.
- 10:40Speaker 8: Yes, but I have a question.
- 10:41Speaker 15: First, why did Abraham ask Eliezer to go so far
- 10:45Speaker 15: away to find a wife for Isaac?
- 10:47Speaker 8: There were people a whole lot closer.
- 10:49Speaker 13: My question is why couldn't Isaac find his own wife.
- 10:53Speaker 7: Yeah right, Haley. Look at James and Hattie. They're recording,
- 10:58Speaker 7: which means they're the ones deciding why that they should
- 11:00Speaker 7: get married.
- 11:01Speaker 6: Are you sure? One of the differences between courting and
- 11:04Speaker 6: dating is that families are usually involved.
- 11:07Speaker 11: They are.
- 11:08Speaker 7: That's so weird.
- 11:10Speaker 6: Not really. Our idea of dating is relatively new.
- 11:14Speaker 7: Dating isn't new.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Actually it is.
- 11:17Speaker 3: In Abraham's time, the families always arranged the marriages. Why chaplain, Jake,
- 11:22Speaker 3: Because marriage isn't just between two people.
- 11:24Speaker 12: Of course it is.
- 11:26Speaker 6: You have a bride and a groom. That's two people.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Yeah, but marriage is also joining two families.
- 11:32Speaker 6: When Jake and I got married, the Simon and Donovan
- 11:35Speaker 6: families became intertwined.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Our wedding didn't turn out at all like we'd expected.
- 11:40Speaker 6: No, thanks to have fire. But you know what els
- 11:43Speaker 6: didn't turnout is expected? What's that our marriage?
- 11:48Speaker 8: Natasha?
- 11:49Speaker 1: Jake?
- 11:50Speaker 3: Jake?
- 11:51Speaker 6: Because it turned out even better than expected?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Oh first I was mad at you, and no, no,
- 11:57Speaker 3: I see you were being sweet.
- 12:00Speaker 7: So let's get back to this family's being involved thing.
- 12:03Speaker 7: What's that about?
- 12:05Speaker 3: Well, for most of history, parents chose partners for their children.
- 12:08Speaker 3: That would you know, strengthen the family. Usually someone with
- 12:12Speaker 3: a similar background shared values.
- 12:14Speaker 13: But couldn't Isaac have done that himself?
- 12:17Speaker 3: Well, not necessarily. Men and women didn't usually mix in
- 12:20Speaker 3: those societies, and Isaac may not have known many of women.
- 12:25Speaker 13: I still can't believe they actually trusted their families to
- 12:28Speaker 13: find someone for them.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Isaac trusted that his father loved him and wanted the
- 12:32Speaker 3: best for him.
- 12:33Speaker 17: Hayley, You've got to remember that back then, these arrangements
- 12:36Speaker 17: were based on duty and respect for the family's decision.
- 12:39Speaker 17: It's just the way things were done.
- 12:41Speaker 9: Duty in respect, that's all.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So Isaac didn't love Rebecca.
- 12:47Speaker 17: Well, the idea was that love would grow after marriage.
- 12:50Speaker 6: Oh wonder, No one does that anymore.
- 12:52Speaker 9: Actually they do.
- 12:53Speaker 7: What are you talking about, Jennett?
- 12:55Speaker 4: They still do arranged marriages in Ethiopia, where I was born.
- 12:59Speaker 12: It's pretty cold in my tribe, Yampara.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Now that's definitely don't say weird.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I wasn't going to I was gonna say interesting.
- 13:10Speaker 13: That's why it's so hard to understand the story because
- 13:13Speaker 13: almost no one in America does arrange marriages.
- 13:17Speaker 6: My granddad has always that his marriage was arranged.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Why why, mister Tasha that sounds like a great story.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Harold and I have to interview mister Simon for our
- 13:28Speaker 4: podcast so we can ask him about it.
- 13:30Speaker 12: Can you call him for us?
- 13:31Speaker 6: Share it, Janet?
- 13:33Speaker 17: But first we need to get this practice going.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Ugh.
- 13:37Speaker 12: Finally, I thought we'd never finished talking about icky romantic stuff.
- 13:42Speaker 2: And get used to it. Kid, that's what the whole
- 13:44Speaker 2: play is about.
- 13:45Speaker 12: Stop calling me, kid.
- 13:49Speaker 8: Can we focus? Please?
- 13:52Speaker 12: Yes, mister Garcia.
- 13:55Speaker 5: For the next hour, the campers did just that. They
- 13:59Speaker 5: focused on their scripts and learning their lines. But part
- 14:02Speaker 5: of acting is understanding the story that you're telling, and
- 14:06Speaker 5: it's especially important to understand the stories in the Bible.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Every one of them has valuable lessons for us, even
- 14:13Speaker 5: if the lessons may not seem clear at first. Soon
- 14:17Speaker 5: the campers had more questions.
- 14:21Speaker 17: Okay, let's go over that part again, Logan, But my
- 14:24Speaker 17: Lord Abraham, what if the woman I choose is unwilling
- 14:26Speaker 17: to come back to this land with me?
- 14:28Speaker 16: It is so far and the journey is hard and dangerous.
- 14:31Speaker 8: Mister Garcia, that reminds me, reminds you of what cyrus?
- 14:35Speaker 15: The question I asked at the beginning of rehearsal, Why
- 14:38Speaker 15: did Abraham ask Eliezer to go so far away to
- 14:41Speaker 15: find a wife for Isaac.
- 14:43Speaker 17: How far was it Canaan to Mesopotamia is about five
- 14:46Speaker 17: hundred miles.
- 14:47Speaker 11: How long did that take.
- 14:49Speaker 17: Well, Italia, probably three weeks based on the average speed
- 14:53Speaker 17: of a camel.
- 14:53Speaker 8: Caravan, such a long trip.
- 14:56Speaker 17: Families tried to keep marriages within their own clan and
- 14:59Speaker 17: within their own on social status. They wanted to keep
- 15:02Speaker 17: their property in their own clan too.
- 15:04Speaker 8: I guess I can understand that.
- 15:06Speaker 17: And Abraham had an even more important reason. What reason
- 15:10Speaker 17: God had forbidden inner marriage with the surrounding Canaanites? What
- 15:14Speaker 17: was wrong with the Canaanites, Lena? Remember that they worshiped
- 15:18Speaker 17: idols gods who were nothing like Yahweh, the True God.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Abraham knew from personal experience how dangerous it was to
- 15:25Speaker 3: get too close to people who don't share your God
- 15:28Speaker 3: and your same beliefs.
- 15:30Speaker 9: What personal experience, well, all.
- 15:32Speaker 3: The experiences he had with Hagar and Ishmael and his
- 15:35Speaker 3: nephew Lott.
- 15:36Speaker 15: Oh, yeah, those didn't turn out too well, did they.
- 15:40Speaker 17: Abraham's family had some of their own issues with idle worship,
- 15:43Speaker 17: but they had mostly preserved the knowledge and worship of
- 15:46Speaker 17: the One True God.
- 15:47Speaker 3: So finding a daughter in law from amongst his own
- 15:50Speaker 3: family was the best choice.
- 15:51Speaker 12: Are we done talking about marriage yet?
- 15:54Speaker 8: I think so, Lily.
- 15:56Speaker 12: Then can we talk about why that camel's tail is
- 15:58Speaker 12: whirling around?
- 16:00Speaker 17: Whirling, Hugo. The tail is supposed to twitch, not whirl, Hugo.
- 16:07Speaker 17: Get back down here, oh counselor Cyrus.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'm just having a little fun.
- 16:13Speaker 15: Fun time is over time for our next activity at
- 16:16Speaker 15: the craft tent crafts.
- 16:19Speaker 2: That means fun time is definitely over.
- 16:22Speaker 14: Not necessarily, Jackson, I have a plan for crafts too.
- 16:29Speaker 5: Oh no, what sort of plan does Hugo have? We'll
- 16:33Speaker 5: find out right after this. Let's join the campers in
- 16:39Speaker 5: the Arts and Crafts tent.
- 16:42Speaker 9: Okay, it's the cup I'm made. It's all dry, mine too.
- 16:45Speaker 12: Everybody's teecups are done, But miss Hattie, you said they
- 16:49Speaker 12: won't be done till tomorrow.
- 16:51Speaker 19: Well that was the original plan, Lily, But I knew
- 16:53Speaker 19: you guys would be anxious to start painting and glazing,
- 16:55Speaker 19: so I decided to surprise you. I stayed up way
- 16:59Speaker 19: too getting them all baked.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Thanks miss Hattie, you show wo going the extra mile,
- 17:05Speaker 7: Miss Hattie, Hey, campers, who does Miss Hattie remind you
- 17:09Speaker 7: of my mom, cause she bakes things for me. Nice answer, Natalia,
- 17:16Speaker 7: But I was thinking of Eliezer.
- 17:18Speaker 11: What do you mean, Addison? How do I remind you
- 17:21Speaker 11: of Eliezer?
- 17:22Speaker 7: You were taking your job seriously and being a faithful servant.
- 17:25Speaker 8: Wait a second, something's wrong.
- 17:28Speaker 11: Ah, did you get the wrong teacups?
- 17:30Speaker 2: Cyrus?
- 17:31Speaker 19: I did not get enough sleep last night. It's possible
- 17:33Speaker 19: I mixed a few up.
- 17:35Speaker 8: No, the teacup is fine. Just has anyone seen Hugo
- 17:39Speaker 8: and Jackson?
- 17:41Speaker 12: Hugo Jackson craft class without Hugo and Jackson complaining sounds
- 17:47Speaker 12: good to me.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Well, hello and good afternoon everyone.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I do hope we're not too light for TEA. They're
- 17:56Speaker 2: wearing gloves and funny hats.
- 17:58Speaker 11: My great Grimo has like that.
- 18:01Speaker 8: Hugo Jackson, what are you doing? And where'd you get
- 18:04Speaker 8: those ridiculous.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Hats from mister Garcia?
- 18:08Speaker 8: Mister Garcia, let you have those.
- 18:11Speaker 1: WHOA, they were in his costume stuff.
- 18:15Speaker 8: Take those back right now.
- 18:18Speaker 14: A counselor, Cyrus, he just wanted to be properly dressed
- 18:21Speaker 14: for team.
- 18:22Speaker 15: Take them back and apologize to mister Garcia, and I
- 18:27Speaker 15: want you back here in five minutes.
- 18:30Speaker 8: Or else.
- 18:32Speaker 6: Come on, Hugo.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I don't want to know what or else means.
- 18:36Speaker 8: I'm timing you. I'm so sorry, Hattie.
- 18:41Speaker 11: It's okay, Cyrus. Now everyone hold up your clay teacups.
- 18:46Speaker 16: They're tall, just like mugs.
- 18:48Speaker 11: They're perfect for the lemonade challenge.
- 18:50Speaker 9: The taller the better, and the fancier the better.
- 18:53Speaker 11: That's right, Natalia.
- 18:55Speaker 19: Your mammy Amanda started this whole tradition in Discovery Mountain.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Yep, you share dead.
- 19:02Speaker 19: And for the lemonade challenge, you're supposed to choose the
- 19:04Speaker 19: fanciest glass or cup.
- 19:06Speaker 11: So let's get decorating now.
- 19:09Speaker 19: I have a whole selection of brushes, paints, and glazes
- 19:12Speaker 19: on the table.
- 19:13Speaker 11: Now come on up and choose your colors.
- 19:15Speaker 12: Miss Hattie, do you have red? I'll need it for
- 19:18Speaker 12: the lava lava. If I can't make a volcano, i'll
- 19:22Speaker 12: paint one.
- 19:23Speaker 6: Oh that's very creative, Lily.
- 19:25Speaker 11: I'm going to paint pink roses. It'll be lovely, Piper.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I don't want to paint flowers.
- 19:32Speaker 19: You can make any design you want, Luke, or even
- 19:35Speaker 19: paint in one color.
- 19:36Speaker 12: Luke.
- 19:37Speaker 7: You could put a different color stripe on the rim
- 19:39Speaker 7: to make it look professional.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, maybe I'll try that.
- 19:43Speaker 11: Spoken like a true artist.
- 19:45Speaker 19: All right, if anyone needs help, raise your hand and
- 19:47Speaker 19: I'll come right over.
- 19:49Speaker 7: Spoken like a true faithful servant.
- 19:51Speaker 9: Hattie, we're back.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Do we make it on?
- 19:58Speaker 12: Where you're going?
- 19:59Speaker 2: Kid?
- 20:02Speaker 12: Not a kid who just broke my teacup?
- 20:05Speaker 11: Jackson, Lily, Let's take a pause, Lily, are you okay?
- 20:10Speaker 12: No, Jackson broke my teacup.
- 20:12Speaker 9: And look he spilled red paint all over.
- 20:16Speaker 19: Well, I'm sure we can fix it, Lily, after I
- 20:19Speaker 19: get this mess cleaned up.
- 20:21Speaker 7: Oh, come on, campers, let's get out of Hattie's way.
- 20:24Speaker 9: Jackson, you should.
- 20:25Speaker 12: Be more careful.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Sorry, Lily.
- 20:30Speaker 11: I might be able to fix this, Lily.
- 20:33Speaker 7: Hattie. I'd offer to help, but it's time for the
- 20:35Speaker 7: campers next activity. It's okay, I've got this.
- 20:40Speaker 15: Come on, campers, it's almost time for the water balloon battle.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Well, let's all go to the field.
- 20:50Speaker 11: Hattie.
- 20:50Speaker 20: I just passed Lily and she was crying.
- 20:53Speaker 6: Was that blood on her leg?
- 20:55Speaker 11: Is she hurt?
- 20:56Speaker 5: No?
- 20:57Speaker 19: The red is paint and she's upset. A boy I
- 21:00Speaker 19: bumped into her and broke her pottery.
- 21:02Speaker 5: We heard a bit of commotion.
- 21:04Speaker 20: It looks like something exploded in here. Let us help
- 21:07Speaker 20: you clean it up.
- 21:08Speaker 7: Okay, I mean I should do it, Hattie, Sit for
- 21:11Speaker 7: a minute.
- 21:11Speaker 16: We can clean up paint.
- 21:14Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 21:15Speaker 19: It's just Jackson and Hugo showed up dressed like they
- 21:18Speaker 19: were dropping in at Buckingham Pallas and Lily's cup got smashed,
- 21:24Speaker 19: and I haven't finished my reading reading.
- 21:27Speaker 6: You're taking classes this summer?
- 21:29Speaker 7: No, No, James and I are reading a book together.
- 21:32Speaker 7: Oh go on, And we're going.
- 21:34Speaker 19: To go for a walk after supper so that we
- 21:37Speaker 19: can have our own little worship together to see if
- 21:40Speaker 19: we have the same values and stuff.
- 21:42Speaker 7: Great idea, Hattie, I sure wish i'd put in that
- 21:45Speaker 7: kind of care like you and James are doing.
- 21:47Speaker 20: Examining and comparing your priorities is what courtship is about, right.
- 21:51Speaker 19: Yeah, but I don't know what my priorities are. And
- 21:55Speaker 19: now I need to make Lily a new cup and
- 21:57Speaker 19: get it in the kiln.
- 21:59Speaker 6: You don't have to make Lily new teacup.
- 22:01Speaker 19: Well, yes I do, otherwise she's gonna be too far
- 22:04Speaker 19: behind now.
- 22:04Speaker 20: The kids, Hattie, a broken cup? Is there a lesson
- 22:08Speaker 20: here that you could share with the campers?
- 22:11Speaker 2: A lesson?
- 22:12Speaker 11: Well, Michelle, of course you're a lifesaver. I'm so relieved.
- 22:19Speaker 11: Or maybe not?
- 22:20Speaker 19: What do you mean, Well, look at that tree over there,
- 22:23Speaker 19: see anything suspicious?
- 22:25Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 22:26Speaker 20: Oh, Hugo and Jackson.
- 22:29Speaker 7: Are they the ones who decided to be ultra fashionable today?
- 22:33Speaker 19: Yes, and they're definitely up to something again.
- 22:36Speaker 6: I'll go talk to them.
- 22:38Speaker 7: No thanks, Michelle, but I have my eye on them.
- 22:41Speaker 19: They won't get away with any mischief in my craft
- 22:43Speaker 19: ten again, at.
- 22:44Speaker 11: Least, let's hope not.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Director Doug I had such high hopes for Hattie's camp activity.
- 22:52Speaker 5: When the kids found out their teacups were ready to
- 22:55Speaker 5: decorate a full day earlier than they expected, they were excited,
- 22:59Speaker 5: weren't they.
- 23:00Speaker 16: Well, they sure were.
- 23:01Speaker 21: And it was all because Hattie worked so hard to
- 23:03Speaker 21: have those cups ready for them.
- 23:05Speaker 16: She even gave up some sleep to get the job done.
- 23:08Speaker 5: She didn't have to do that, did she, No?
- 23:10Speaker 21: But she did it anyway because she cares about her
- 23:13Speaker 21: job and about the campers.
- 23:15Speaker 5: You know who else cared?
- 23:17Speaker 8: Who?
- 23:18Speaker 5: Abraham's servant, Eliezar Well, of course, and that's why Abraham
- 23:22Speaker 5: knew he could trust him with such an important task.
- 23:26Speaker 16: The most important What did.
- 23:28Speaker 5: You think of Addison's comment that Hattie reminded her of eliezar.
- 23:32Speaker 21: Well, I think Addison was right. I can't say I
- 23:35Speaker 21: think that Hattie staying up.
- 23:36Speaker 16: Very late was a good idea.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Though right, sleep is very important.
- 23:41Speaker 21: But Hattie was doing it because she knew the campers
- 23:43Speaker 21: would be eager to paint and.
- 23:44Speaker 16: Glaze her cups. She didn't want them to have to wait.
- 23:47Speaker 5: She wasn't satisfied with just doing a good enough job.
- 23:51Speaker 5: She did the best job that she could.
- 23:54Speaker 16: She certainly has a servant's heart, just as God wants
- 23:57Speaker 16: us to have.
- 23:58Speaker 5: Do you remember what it says in Galatians fourteen?
- 24:01Speaker 21: Oh, great text, I've got it right here. It says
- 24:04Speaker 21: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Oh oh, and
- 24:06Speaker 21: another version says serve one another humbly in love.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Serve one another humbly in love. I like that. That's
- 24:14Speaker 5: exactly what Hattie did when she stayed up late to
- 24:16Speaker 5: get the pottery ready for decorating.
- 24:19Speaker 16: And why do you suppose she did that?
- 24:21Speaker 5: Because it's not just a job for Hattie, it's a
- 24:24Speaker 5: mission that God gave her, and she's made the choice
- 24:27Speaker 5: to be a faithful servant in that mission.
- 24:29Speaker 21: Ellie Hazer accepted his mission because he was a faithful
- 24:32Speaker 21: servant of Abraham and of God.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Jane seems to have a real mission this summer too,
- 24:38Speaker 5: two missions, in fact, to be the best sports director
- 24:42Speaker 5: he can be and for he and Hattie to have
- 24:44Speaker 5: the kind of relationship that God wants them to have.
- 24:48Speaker 21: Unfortunately, I don't think Hattie and James are the only
- 24:50Speaker 21: ones with a mission at Discovery Mountain Camp. Unfortunately, well,
- 24:54Speaker 21: Hugo appears to be on a mission to have as
- 24:57Speaker 21: much fun as possible, no matter how inappropriate read it
- 25:00Speaker 21: might be.
- 25:01Speaker 5: He and Jackson seem determined to be the camp clowns,
- 25:04Speaker 5: don't they.
- 25:05Speaker 21: You think they'll stop fooling around long enough to learn
- 25:08Speaker 21: something from James and Pattie's examples.
- 25:10Speaker 5: Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. In
- 25:13Speaker 5: the meantime, listeners, we can all exercise our faith by
- 25:17Speaker 5: memorizing Galatians five fourteen and asking God to show us
- 25:22Speaker 5: how we can serve others humbly and with love.
- 25:25Speaker 21: Great idea, look up the verse and we'll see you
- 25:27Speaker 21: here next time.
