- 0:00Speaker 1: And we're joined by Jeff Lagwall the VESPN dot com.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hi, Jeff, come on, man, come on more than fella.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Jeff, I yelled an hour ago because I am ruk assault.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I am impatient, and I don't know what the plan is.
- 0:25Speaker 1: It feels like you head into this offseason with George
- 0:29Speaker 1: Peyton saying we're going to be aggressive and then no
- 0:32Speaker 1: external signings for the first three days a free agency.
- 0:37Speaker 1: What's going on?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Well, I think they they said they would be very
- 0:42Speaker 3: like I don't remember the exact words, but I think
- 0:46Speaker 3: they said selectively aggressive and that in that vein. I
- 0:51Speaker 3: also think the Broncos believe being aggressive is signing your
- 0:55Speaker 3: own guys.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And I mean that's ah.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I know people are just like shrugging their shoulders and
- 1:04Speaker 3: screaming and raising their hands about it. But they obviously
- 1:08Speaker 3: decided they like their own guys better than what they
- 1:14Speaker 3: thought the price points were for some of these other players.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I mean, they were in on negotiating with some of
- 1:21Speaker 3: these other guys. I think, you know, I heard, you know,
- 1:26Speaker 3: I've heard they were taking a look at Romeo Dowds.
- 1:30Speaker 2: They took a look at atn you.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Know, they took a look at some of these guys,
- 1:35Speaker 3: but decided the price point was too much. I will say,
- 1:39Speaker 3: and I said this on the afternoon guys too. I
- 1:42Speaker 3: find it intriguing that three teams have sat out free
- 1:47Speaker 3: agency so far in terms of external guys, Seattle, Denver
- 1:53Speaker 3: and Jacksonville. And all three of those teams won thirteen
- 1:57Speaker 3: or fourteen games last year. It is interesting that the
- 2:01Speaker 3: sort of the big three sat it out, and you know,
- 2:07Speaker 3: of the the big win teams, New England has been
- 2:11Speaker 3: the most active.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Here's the difference of the three who set it out.
- 2:15Speaker 4: I can argue that the three of those teams, one
- 2:18Speaker 4: of them offensively was not very good at times, and
- 2:22Speaker 4: Denver needed some offensive help. And Seattle they've got plenty
- 2:28Speaker 4: of offense. Jacksonville we saw firsthand here they've got offense.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Denver needs an offensive playmaker to add to this squad.
- 2:35Speaker 4: So why no offense? Why didn't they go there with anybody?
- 2:41Speaker 3: I'm not sure they thought much of the tight end
- 2:45Speaker 3: in free agency, and to me, that's the glaring spot
- 2:49Speaker 3: right now. I think at the other spots, you can
- 2:53Speaker 3: sort of make the devil's advocate argument of standing pat.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I mean, it may not make people happy, but I
- 2:59Speaker 3: think you could.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Making an argument of sorts there.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I mean, Dobbins was fifth in the league in rushing
- 3:05Speaker 3: last year when he got hurt.
- 3:07Speaker 2: He was like sixth.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Among all players in rushing plays of at least ten.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yards when he got hurt.
- 3:17Speaker 3: So he was a top five running back in the
- 3:20Speaker 3: league when he got hurt. But the question with him
- 3:24Speaker 3: is he's only played more than thirteen games in a
- 3:28Speaker 3: season once in his career, and that's when he was
- 3:31Speaker 3: a rookie.
- 3:32Speaker 2: So that's the question with JK. Dobbins.
- 3:36Speaker 3: But you can make the argument when he plays he's
- 3:39Speaker 3: a playmaker. Tight End is the spot where I have
- 3:44Speaker 3: the big question mark for the Broncos. I mean, they
- 3:47Speaker 3: had three touchdowns from the group last year and none
- 3:50Speaker 3: of them averaged more than nine point two yards a catch.
- 3:54Speaker 3: So to me, that's the missing, big, missing piece in
- 3:59Speaker 3: free agency. But you know, they still have the draft,
- 4:03Speaker 3: and I think we've seen by their actions that they're
- 4:08Speaker 3: leaning hard into the draft right now with nine picks
- 4:13Speaker 3: and five of them in the first four rounds. So
- 4:16Speaker 3: but it's I got to say, it has been a
- 4:19Speaker 3: long time. I mean, they had twenty five free agents
- 4:22Speaker 3: at the three levels of free agency, exclusive rights, restricted, unrestricted.
- 4:29Speaker 3: They had twenty five guys at those three levels.
- 4:33Speaker 2: They have re signed nineteen of them.
- 4:36Speaker 3: And that that when he Sean Payton said he likes
- 4:41Speaker 3: this team.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Uh, he wasn't kidding.
- 4:44Speaker 5: When you say, though, he kept saying. But when he
- 4:48Speaker 5: got hurt, when he got hurt. Yeah, when he got hurt.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's a fact.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Yeah, you're the one who always said that you can't
- 4:55Speaker 5: make the club in the tub, but you need to
- 4:58Speaker 5: shore up a little bit. Some of my questions you
- 4:59Speaker 5: was what about trade, I mean, or are we are
- 5:02Speaker 5: we past that yet? Is there any possibilities of throwing
- 5:06Speaker 5: some stuff out there to bring a guy in that way?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I think most the trade market will really pick
- 5:13Speaker 3: up steam again right before the draft, sort of the
- 5:16Speaker 3: draft weekend, So if they're gonna make a deal.
- 5:21Speaker 2: It most you know, stuff can be.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Happening now for sure, but the hot trade moments are
- 5:28Speaker 3: sort of right before the deadline, right before free agency opens,
- 5:34Speaker 3: and then right before the draft weekend and during the
- 5:36Speaker 3: draft weekend. I mean, they got John Franklin Myers originally
- 5:39Speaker 3: during the draft weekend. They got Troutman originally during the
- 5:42Speaker 3: draft weekend, so there is the potential for that activity,
- 5:47Speaker 3: you know, But I'm not sure you know. Again, they
- 5:51Speaker 3: can be doing stuff stealthily, for sure. I never want
- 5:55Speaker 3: to tell people. You know, none of us, including everybody
- 5:59Speaker 3: I work with at ESPN, none of us know exactly
- 6:03Speaker 3: everything going on. But I have not heard the Denver
- 6:06Speaker 3: Broncos much when I talk to people about who's interested
- 6:10Speaker 3: in trades right now?
- 6:11Speaker 2: So that could pick up again during the draft weekend.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Jeff Lakewell, joining is in the ramos Law hot line
- 6:17Speaker 1: car accident. You need ramos Law medical doctrine attorney ramas
- 6:20Speaker 1: Law dot com. You brought up a name, So I'm
- 6:24Speaker 1: impatient with no external players coming in. Fine. The moves
- 6:28Speaker 1: that they've made to retain their players and the ones
- 6:31Speaker 1: that they've decided to let go, I almost agree with
- 6:34Speaker 1: all of them except for one. Explain to me, you
- 6:40Speaker 1: said maybe the price was too much for some of
- 6:42Speaker 1: these guys in free agency. Why is Adam Troutman worth
- 6:46Speaker 1: almost six million dollars a year? Then explain that one to.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Me, Well, I mean, that's that's the value the head
- 6:53Speaker 3: coach has put on that player for you know, a
- 6:57Speaker 3: variety of reasons. I again, and that's the position where
- 7:01Speaker 3: I looking at it from the outside, would say.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Running it back.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Davis Webb, you know, better have a really cool plan
- 7:11Speaker 3: as a play caller, and bo Nicks better be looking
- 7:15Speaker 3: to areas of the field. He hasn't looked to as
- 7:18Speaker 3: much thus far in his career. But you cannot beat
- 7:25Speaker 3: two deep safeties in nickel defenses, you know, as much
- 7:29Speaker 3: as you need to as an offense these days without
- 7:32Speaker 3: somebody in that tight end position. Whether it's a big
- 7:36Speaker 3: receiver or a tight end, a traditional tight end or whatever,
- 7:40Speaker 3: but you need somebody in those parts of the field,
- 7:44Speaker 3: and the Broncos haven't had it for quite some time now.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Ingram had fifty catches, but again no tight ends. Over
- 7:52Speaker 3: nine point two a catch and three touchdowns from the
- 7:55Speaker 3: entire group. You know, to me, that's the hole in
- 8:00Speaker 3: the offense. I mean, everybody's asking me about Aten.
- 8:03Speaker 2: You know. RJ.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Harvey had as many touchdowns as atn did. So that's
- 8:07Speaker 3: how the Broncos looked at it. You know, they they
- 8:10Speaker 3: got seven touchdowns from a guy in a rookie contract.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Why would they spend you know, forty million dollars to
- 8:18Speaker 3: get seven touchdowns?
- 8:19Speaker 2: They already got that. You know they they.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Need somebody at tight end in that spot. You know
- 8:26Speaker 3: they want to I think you can lean I'm a
- 8:29Speaker 3: draft guy, I make no secret of that. I think
- 8:32Speaker 3: they could lean on young receivers and hope for growth.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But tight end is the spot where you don't see
- 8:39Speaker 3: anything on the depth chart where progression could come. Unless
- 8:44Speaker 3: you know, Caleb Blowner was scoring touchdowns you know, every
- 8:48Speaker 3: practice and none of us saw it. But uh, you
- 8:51Speaker 3: know they didn't deem that worthy of a look coming
- 8:54Speaker 3: down the stretch, you know, coming off the practice squad.
- 8:57Speaker 3: So that to me that you know, we can all
- 9:01Speaker 3: discuss everything about free agency because that's fun and it's cool.
- 9:04Speaker 3: But to me, tight end is the glaring spot on
- 9:07Speaker 3: the depth chart. But if that's your first round pick,
- 9:11Speaker 3: suddenly that's not a glaring spot on the depth chart anymore.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Well, it's the kind of tight end I heard you
- 9:16Speaker 4: on one of the other shows earlier this week. It's
- 9:18Speaker 4: it's the predictable nature of the Broncos offense. When you
- 9:22Speaker 4: know a certain tight end is in the game, you
- 9:24Speaker 4: know exactly what they're gonna do, run or pass. They
- 9:26Speaker 4: need a tight end where the question isn't already answered
- 9:31Speaker 4: by the personnel on the field, in my humble opinion,
- 9:34Speaker 4: and I'm not sure they have one of those.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yeah, or the guy is so good at getting open
- 9:39Speaker 3: it doesn't matter. Yeah, you know that those are the two.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You know, athletically, I don't think they're where other teams
- 9:47Speaker 3: are at the position because again, everybody the defense is
- 9:52Speaker 3: winning league wide now, I mean, scoring is down. Everything's
- 9:56Speaker 3: harder for on offense right now, especially if you don't
- 10:00Speaker 3: run the ball because everybody's playing nickel and dime, two
- 10:04Speaker 3: deep safeties, combo coverages, you know, simulated rushes. Defense has
- 10:11Speaker 3: swung the pendulum, and the teams that are succeeding the
- 10:14Speaker 3: most aren't the ones were sort of we glamorize, you know,
- 10:19Speaker 3: with the two.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Great wide receiver.
- 10:21Speaker 3: It's the teams with the tight ends who can punish
- 10:24Speaker 3: in the middle of the field, and the Broncos have
- 10:27Speaker 3: not shown that ability and this group hasn't shown that.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:32Speaker 3: When the season was over, Evan Ingram said out loud,
- 10:37Speaker 3: you know, the tight ends could have done more, but
- 10:39Speaker 3: we we did what we were asked to do. So
- 10:42Speaker 3: you wonder if all of that was part of the reason.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Sean Payton also did the the most unexpected thing of
- 10:51Speaker 3: the of the the offseason and and surrender play calls.
- 10:56Speaker 3: But uh, you know, I added this up the other
- 10:59Speaker 3: day because I was curious about it. The Broncos have
- 11:03Speaker 3: spent money almost more than anybody in the league over
- 11:07Speaker 3: the last year and a half, three hundred and twenty
- 11:11Speaker 3: million guaranteed dollars at signing three hundred and twenty million
- 11:17Speaker 3: dollars in the last year and a half. But they
- 11:21Speaker 3: just did it for guys in their own jersey. And
- 11:26Speaker 3: some of that may be unprecedented in the in the
- 11:28Speaker 3: free agency era, but they have spent the money.
- 11:32Speaker 2: They've just spent it on their own guys.
- 11:34Speaker 3: And you know, whether that's right or wrong is will
- 11:38Speaker 3: be determined in bo Nix's rookie contract because a lot
- 11:43Speaker 3: of this is they've got a position for a nine
- 11:47Speaker 3: digit contract that's coming down the pipe within the next
- 11:51Speaker 3: year and a half.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Probably yep, that's bow Knicks freight trains coming down the tracks.
- 11:57Speaker 5: You better make hay while you can. Jeff helped me
- 12:00Speaker 5: out here because I guess I'm dumb. What's the fallout
- 12:03Speaker 5: from the Max Crosby Nicked trade? What he says, I'm
- 12:07Speaker 5: a raider now and I don't know how you repair
- 12:09Speaker 5: that and patch it up. But what's the scuttle butt
- 12:11Speaker 5: around the league because it feels like dirty pool from
- 12:14Speaker 5: Baltimore even though it was well within their rights.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Well, and it's not unprecedented.
- 12:19Speaker 3: It's happened plenty of times before where teams have failed
- 12:23Speaker 3: guys on physicals magnitude.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Right away, come on, man.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Well, you know they were negotiating with they wanted them both.
- 12:34Speaker 3: In fact, they told, uh, My understanding is they told Hendrickson,
- 12:39Speaker 3: We're going to get you both as they were negotiating
- 12:42Speaker 3: with them. But uh, just from talking to people while
- 12:46Speaker 3: I've been making my draft rounds the last couple of days,
- 12:49Speaker 3: the consensus, you know, uh is the Ravens basically sort
- 12:54Speaker 3: of got cold feet about it all. You know, they
- 12:57Speaker 3: looked at the knee, and I think even Crosby's own
- 13:01Speaker 3: surgeon gave a hint at what the Ravens were looking
- 13:06Speaker 3: at when he said even Crosby's own surgeon said future
- 13:11Speaker 3: risk assessment in the statement about his coming back. So
- 13:16Speaker 3: I think the concern is arthritis and cartilage damage because
- 13:21Speaker 3: he played on a torn meniscus. And when you again,
- 13:25Speaker 3: I always say I wasn't at medical school the day
- 13:29Speaker 3: they taught medicine. But I've always heard from every team doctor,
- 13:34Speaker 3: I know that if you play on a torn meniscus,
- 13:39Speaker 3: there is risk in the future of degenerative cartilage, arthritis,
- 13:45Speaker 3: all of those things that end careers in the NFL.
- 13:49Speaker 3: But you don't know when that's coming two years, five years,
- 13:52Speaker 3: and that's I think they got nervous looking at that
- 13:56Speaker 3: knee and having surrendered a team that Perrish is draft
- 14:00Speaker 3: picks almost more than any other.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Uh.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Looking at that knee and knowing they had surrendered to
- 14:06Speaker 3: first round picks, I think that My opinion is they
- 14:09Speaker 3: just got cold feet and and failed him on the physical.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Yeah, but if you play play on the torn achilles,
- 14:16Speaker 5: doesn't that make you tough? I mean us, who are us?
- 14:18Speaker 5: Guys who played on torn achilles? I think it makes
- 14:21Speaker 5: us more desirable.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I think the toughest thing I've ever seen is a
- 14:27Speaker 3: guy taking a big swig of coffee creamer.
- 14:30Speaker 5: For reason, I'm trying to shut him up.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Let it.
- 14:36Speaker 3: You let a guy goad you into sucking coffee streamer down.
- 14:41Speaker 2: You gotta be stronger than that. Most you can't get
- 14:44Speaker 2: coded into.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Look you got you got doted into a fight by
- 14:48Speaker 3: the fourth line.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Thing he's eaten in months, trust.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Me, No, there's no questions.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Hey, Jeff, that ain't that ain't on the sign menu
- 14:59Speaker 3: over the cash REGISTERY tell you that.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Exactly, Jeff, just real quick, thirty seconds. A man can dream.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I love it when you give me a time like
- 15:09Speaker 3: shut up, leg, well, just get this out.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It's my fault because we should I should just say bye.
- 15:14Speaker 1: But I'm I'm selfish.
- 15:17Speaker 5: I have a dream.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Is Miami's done like offloading contracts or is there a
- 15:24Speaker 1: chance that waddles in a chains could still be available?
- 15:29Speaker 3: I knowing coaches on that staff, A Chain is like
- 15:34Speaker 3: the favorite player in the building, on the roster in
- 15:38Speaker 3: the offense. There's no way they love that guy. And
- 15:42Speaker 3: I and I tell you because I know I know
- 15:45Speaker 3: some folks on that coaching staff, and he's beloved. So
- 15:48Speaker 3: it'd be hard for me to believe that he would
- 15:50Speaker 3: be out there. But yeah, he'd look pretty good in
- 15:54Speaker 3: a in a Sean Payton Davis web offense.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Wattle students Field still a coach there?
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yeah No, sic was with the Bears now, Oh yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 3: he's with the Bears now. But uh yeah, no, I
- 16:08Speaker 3: don't get that sense. But it doesn't mean it can't happen.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Usually you would have done it by now to use
- 16:14Speaker 3: the cap space to do other stuff. So as you
- 16:17Speaker 3: can see already. But I mean even yesterday, the first
- 16:21Speaker 3: official day of free we were already in the one
- 16:24Speaker 3: year contract zones. You know, the big business has already
- 16:28Speaker 3: been done.
- 16:29Speaker 1: CHEFLAKEWELDESPN dot com. All conversations with Leggy brought you by

- 16:38Speaker 1: go get yourself from creamer.
- 16:39Speaker 2: You deserve it.
- 16:42Speaker 3: I'm gonna have my first, my first career cup of coffee,
- 16:45Speaker 3: Believe it or not.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Once you go creamer, you never go back. Yeah, I'm
- 16:50Speaker 5: just telling you, I'm gonna go part take right now.
- 16:53Speaker 3: My dad could never wrap his head around that I've
- 16:56Speaker 3: never had a cup of coffee. He just could not Uh,

- 17:06Speaker 3: back in the day with you have a cup yet?
- 17:11Speaker 1: No, I haven't had coffee. I've just had the creamer, Dad.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I just I just slug back some coffee mate and
- 17:18Speaker 3: called it a day.
- 17:19Speaker 4: This is my third cup and I've been at it
- 17:22Speaker 4: for an hour.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I consider it a public service. Imagine me with a
- 17:27Speaker 3: lot of coffee. I'd be That'd be a bad scene.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Thevet
