SPEAKER_06: Uh yeah, it's been a while since we had Jen on the podcast.
• 1:31
  SPEAKER_06: Um years, actually.
• 1:33
SPEAKER_06: And uh I think it all it can all be boiled down to like you started teaching in a public school system uh public school system, and you are kind of it's it's a no-no to have like an online presence, at least for the first couple years of teaching.
• 1:48
  SPEAKER_06: Is that correct?
• 1:50
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, pretty much.
• 1:51
SPEAKER_04: I just like wanted to play it safe.
• 1:54
SPEAKER_04: So I I didn't want to do anything like super public.
• 1:57
SPEAKER_04: But um one of my favorite shows of all time, Twin Peaks.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_04: When I found out you guys were doing this, I couldn't resist.
• 2:04
SPEAKER_04: I'm breaking the rules, I'm coming on the podcast, and uh I just want to talk about it.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_04: I love Twin Peaks, there's a lot to say.
• 2:12
  SPEAKER_06: There is.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_06: We're only covering the first eight episodes, so no spoilers, Jen.
• 2:16
SPEAKER_06: Um, but that's what we watched recently, so you shouldn't be inclined to give spoilers out.
• 2:21
SPEAKER_06: But yeah, this is gonna be fun.
• 2:24
SPEAKER_06: We I'm so excited to hear these two that their reactions.
• 2:28
SPEAKER_06: Rich is already like shaking his head in like silent fury over there.
• 2:33
SPEAKER_06: He just he's so con he's confused, Rich, today.
• 2:36
SPEAKER_06: Um, and that's that's one of the best riches we can uh get on the show.
• 2:40
SPEAKER_06: But yeah, um before we begin, well let's let's do our a little bit.
• 2:45
SPEAKER_06: What what have we been up to, guys, since the last time that we spoke?
• 2:49
  SPEAKER_06: I'll I'll go first.
• 2:50
  SPEAKER_06: I don't have a whole lot to say.
• 2:52
SPEAKER_06: I completed or I I platinumed Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, the uh the base game, and then I started playing the the first DLC pack, uh story pack after that.
• 3:07
SPEAKER_06: But I was I was very happy to have uh not only come like platinumed the game, but completed all the side quests that weren't even part of that platinum.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_06: Um I it it felt good.
• 3:20
  SPEAKER_06: It felt really good.
• 3:21
SPEAKER_06: It's been it's been really uh uh it's been a long time since I platinumed the game.
• 3:27
SPEAKER_06: I think it was like Uncharted 3 was the last game I platinumed.
• 3:31
SPEAKER_06: So uh it's been like over a decade.
• 3:33
SPEAKER_06: But um, yeah, that was that was fun, and I'm I'm excited to jump into the story mode because it just the story just continues past that point, and it's it's uh it's a great game.
• 3:42
  SPEAKER_06: I'm really enjoying it.
• 3:43
SPEAKER_06: Jen, we'll we'll send it over to you.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_06: What have you been up to since the last time we spoke to you?
• 3:48
SPEAKER_04: I've been waking up to random avatar noises, or they're like either shooting or like yep, yep, or like the they're like little chants and things.
• 3:58
SPEAKER_04: I I like randomly on the weekends wake up to that noise.
• 4:01
SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, I get I don't know what I've been up to.
• 4:04
  SPEAKER_04: I became a teacher.
• 4:05
  SPEAKER_04: I like my job.
• 4:07
  SPEAKER_04: I got a cat.
• 4:08
SPEAKER_04: He's cool, he's walking around here somewhere.
• 4:11
  SPEAKER_04: That's that's pretty much it.
• 4:12
  SPEAKER_04: That's what I've been up to.
• 4:14
  SPEAKER_06: Excellent.
• 4:15
SPEAKER_06: Let's roll it over to Anthony.
• 4:17
SPEAKER_06: What are you up to this week?
• 4:18
SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, just coming, you know, climbing back out of the the rabbit hole just for us to jump right back in for this episode.
• 4:27
SPEAKER_01: But actually, I started watching this limited series that has James Franco in it.
• 4:33
  SPEAKER_01: It's uh 112263.
• 4:36
SPEAKER_01: That's um Oh yeah, that was fun.
• 4:38
SPEAKER_06: That was a good one.
• 4:39
SPEAKER_01: So so I actually had never seen it.
• 4:41
SPEAKER_01: They brought it over to Netflix.
• 4:42
SPEAKER_01: I think it was a Hulu original, and then like Hulu is just like it just it, you know, they got rid of it.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_01: Kind of like uh HBO with Westw Westworld.
• 4:52
SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I started I started that it's it's interesting so far.
• 4:57
SPEAKER_01: Um pretty much the the premise, and it's based on a Stephen King book of the same name, and the the premise is that you know uh James Franco James James Franco's character has to go back in time to stop the Kennedy assassination, you know, through a yeah, he sent closet to the the day he sent to the day before the Kennedy assassination or the day of the the Kennedy assassination, I forget.
• 5:23
SPEAKER_01: No, dude, he it's like three years before.
• 5:26
SPEAKER_01: So he has to like sit like chill in uh in the past for like three years, pretty much.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_01: And does he run into magneto?
• 5:34
SPEAKER_01: Weapon does he run into Magneto?
• 5:39
  SPEAKER_01: Um I don't I don't think that timeline crossed over.
• 5:42
  SPEAKER_01: So alright.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_03: I I thought because I thought he bent the bullet, so it's no that's wanted, you know.
• 5:49
SPEAKER_01: He was curving the bullet.
• 5:51
SPEAKER_01: No, but um no, no, but yeah, I I remember that also.
• 5:55
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so I I kind of been watching that.
• 5:58
SPEAKER_01: I've I've also been on a another like, you know, kind of World of Warcraft kind of splurge, or not splurge, but just been playing on it.
• 6:09
SPEAKER_01: Um they uh I'm trying to like level up a little bit now.
• 6:14
SPEAKER_01: They they've finally released the the housing for the game now.
• 6:18
SPEAKER_01: So I kind of want to get to that part and start like messing around that like you know they Oh you can see.
• 6:23
SPEAKER_01: Yes, World of Warcraft is now the Sims, so you know that that you know be interesting, you know, and and then having friends um and creating like a little neighborhood where you guys guys can go to each other's like homes and stuff that that'd be interesting.
• 6:37
SPEAKER_06: Can you cross realms at this point for stuff like that?
• 6:40
SPEAKER_01: I don't know about that, but I know cross they've do they do like cross realm stuff for they do that for dungeons.
• 6:47
SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure for raids.
• 6:50
SPEAKER_01: I think with raids you you need like a kind of like solid group, but I mean I haven't it's been a long time since I've raided, like I haven't oof it's very, very long.
• 7:01
SPEAKER_01: I mostly just stick with like d dungeons and whatnot, but but yeah, that that's uh that's really like what I've been up to.
• 7:09
  SPEAKER_01: How about you, Rich?
• 7:11
  SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
• 7:12
SPEAKER_03: Well, I uh recently enjoyed episode nine of uh Stranger Things, uh season five.
• 7:19
  SPEAKER_03: It's really good.
• 7:20
SPEAKER_03: So you know, I hope that we get to talk about it in the future.
• 7:24
SPEAKER_03: Um really excited about that.
• 7:26
SPEAKER_03: Uh still been kind of jumping around from game to game.
• 7:29
SPEAKER_03: I think I thought I was almost done with outer worlds and it out of worlds two, and it did the same thing to me that outer worlds one did.
• 7:36
SPEAKER_03: It just kind of got me.
• 7:38
SPEAKER_03: I was like, I remember I like looking at Lauren and she was asking, like, are you almost done?
• 7:41
SPEAKER_03: And I was like, This is the end.
• 7:42
SPEAKER_03: And then it wasn't the end, and I was like, Oh yeah, I should probably press pause.
• 7:46
SPEAKER_03: Sorry for the last hour and a half of gaming.
• 7:48
SPEAKER_03: Uh so and then I just started playing um Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom on the uh on the Switch.
• 7:56
SPEAKER_03: And uh I like it.
• 7:57
  SPEAKER_03: Uh it's it's really nice.
• 7:58
SPEAKER_03: I mean it's a little cheap that like they're like, yeah, you're not gonna play as Link, but there's gonna be a ghost link that you get to access whenever you want.
• 8:06
SPEAKER_03: Uh as long as you have some power.
• 8:09
SPEAKER_03: So that's kind of a weird workaround, but uh I'm enjoying it.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_03: I love Hyrule, I like uh the graphics, I think it really runs well.
• 8:17
SPEAKER_03: Uh they have warp points, which for me in a Zelda game is something that I don't ever remember really being able to do.
• 8:23
SPEAKER_03: Uh so I'm kind of enjoying that there.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_03: Uh and uh it's just kind of like a really fun game.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_03: And then I I guess uh that's really I mean yeah, I think that's it for me for the week, other than well, we'll save it for I guess the discussion of the episode because I think that's where things get interesting.
• 8:42
SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, let's let's actually do that because well, you know what?
• 8:46
SPEAKER_06: You you you mentioned something that I think is is worth discussing because it's just been such a funny time on the internet.
• 8:52
SPEAKER_06: Um, Anthony, I don't know if you have like been caught up.
• 8:55
SPEAKER_06: I don't know, you're not you're not on social media that often, so have you seen that?
• 8:59
  SPEAKER_01: I did catch that.
• 9:00
SPEAKER_01: I I catch some of the stuff that you share.
• 9:02
  SPEAKER_06: Okay, alright.
• 9:04
SPEAKER_06: So the the Stranger Things fandom has basically imploded um massively.
• 9:10
SPEAKER_06: I've never seen mass psychosis of a fandom to this degree, where basically the Duffer Brothers, the creators of Stranger Things, produced a season that was so I don't want to say it's bad, because I don't think the whole of it was bad, but it was disappointing.
• 9:29
  SPEAKER_06: It was disappointing.
• 9:30
SPEAKER_06: It was so disappointing that the fans thought that can't be that can't be the case because the previous seasons were good.
• 9:37
SPEAKER_06: So there must be a secret ninth episode that's coming out, and they they arbitrarily put it as January 7th.
• 9:44
SPEAKER_06: Um and there was like a whole there's it's funny because like there was a lot of circumstantial evidence that kind of maybe pointed to there being a ninth episode, but that's crazy, you know.
• 9:58
SPEAKER_06: It's it's crazy that they would just film a whole other feature-length finale in secret.
• 10:04
SPEAKER_06: Um, so yeah, it's it it didn't happen, unfortunately.
• 10:08
  SPEAKER_03: And um man, look, I don't I don't think it's crazy.
• 10:12
  SPEAKER_03: Listen, all right.
• 10:14
SPEAKER_03: In wrestling, when they want to do like a secret like guys returning, all right, they like that dude'll fly into like Rochester to go to a show in Pittsburgh, drive in a rental car, they like cover him in a shroud and put him in a room, and nobody in the building knows that he's there except for like his two drivers until he comes out and the big reveal happens.
• 10:36
SPEAKER_03: Like, and also I'm not sure if you saw the new evidence, Dakota.
• 10:39
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, there's new evidence?
• 10:39
SPEAKER_02: Oh, tell me, tell me on the ninth, yeah.
• 10:42
SPEAKER_04: No time on the ninth, all right?
• 10:44
SPEAKER_02: On the ninth, that's that's the new I saw something about the ninth.
• 10:48
SPEAKER_02: They're just pushing back the goalpost, my dude.
• 10:52
SPEAKER_03: Right, dude, you could himself, he zoomed in on a picture of them like posing by a BMW the BMW, and in the background it has a nine.
• 11:06
SPEAKER_03: And Dakota himself zoomed it and and tweeted it.
• 11:09
  SPEAKER_03: All right.
• 11:10
SPEAKER_06: But I also said that they're trolling the fans at this point.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_03: Like you it's almost like it's almost like you're everybody else in Hawkins, and I'm Joyce when Will was taken away.
• 11:24
SPEAKER_03: Oh, you have I know he's there.
• 11:26
  SPEAKER_06: You're Ron.
• 11:27
  SPEAKER_06: Okay, alright.
• 11:28
SPEAKER_06: So we're we're getting uh we're getting a season or an episode nine of season five of Stranger Things.
• 11:33
SPEAKER_01: I do like that you're a fan of the flame, though, and you're like, they haven't disputed it.
• 11:38
  SPEAKER_06: No, no, it's true.
• 11:40
SPEAKER_06: I I I was fanning the flames because it's funny, first of all.
• 11:44
SPEAKER_06: Um and if you look at all the evidence, it's not nothing.
• 11:49
SPEAKER_06: You know, there there's definitely something seriously wrong with the finale that we got and the season as a whole that we got to the point where it would make sense story-wise, to do that, you know, and and Stranger Things is one of those shows that actually would lend itself to a secret finale because you have characters who can create scenarios in people's minds, like the the main villain Vecna.
• 12:17
SPEAKER_06: So the the theory is that the the season finale that we got, the epilogue is pretty much all in Vecna's mind, and he's basically placating them while he's destroying the world or something.
• 12:28
SPEAKER_06: So I don't know, but you know, I I want it to be true.
• 12:32
  SPEAKER_06: I do.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_06: I I definitely do because I I would love another episode of Stranger Things.
• 12:37
SPEAKER_06: I would love them for them to make a better finale, a more satisfying finale.
• 12:41
SPEAKER_06: But on an emotional level, the the epilogue of Stranger Things episode eight was good enough for me, you know.
• 12:50
SPEAKER_06: Um, so I'm I'm I don't personally believe currently that there is going to be a ninth episode.
• 12:56
  SPEAKER_06: Rich still does.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_04: You're saying that now, Dakota.
• 13:00
SPEAKER_04: You were definitely trying to convert me to this idea.
• 13:05
SPEAKER_04: I was like, I literally I was like playing on my phone on the couch, and he kept like showing me stuff, sending me stuff, and I had to turn, look him in the eye, and say, You are you will not convince me that there's going to be another ending on top of the two-hour-long movie that they made.
• 13:19
  SPEAKER_04: And he converted Rich.
• 13:21
SPEAKER_04: I think it was Dakota that got to Rich.
• 13:22
SPEAKER_04: And poor Rich was probably sitting there yesterday, or was that news this the 7th at 9 o'clock?
• 13:28
SPEAKER_04: Were he were he rich?
• 13:30
SPEAKER_04: Were you sitting in front of me?
• 13:31
SPEAKER_03: I was sitting, I was sitting at Rockland Community College at a track meet, refreshing my phone over and over again, asking uh kids.
• 13:39
SPEAKER_03: I was like, is your internet weird?
• 13:41
  SPEAKER_03: Because I I can't find any information.
• 13:46
SPEAKER_06: Because everyone was everyone kept refreshing their Stranger Things season five.
• 13:50
SPEAKER_06: So Netflix literally crashed last night.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_06: Wait, it was that so it wasn't just it wasn't just you, no, like it literally crashed.
• 13:55
SPEAKER_04: It was you and the people like you.
• 13:57
SPEAKER_06: You know what is like Stranger Things?
• 14:00
  SPEAKER_04: But stranger?
• 14:01
SPEAKER_06: But stranger and somehow more like wholesome in a weird way, um, but not really.
• 14:08
  SPEAKER_06: Twin Peaks.
• 14:09
SPEAKER_06: Uh it's not actually more wholesome.
• 14:11
  SPEAKER_06: I I don't it's uh it's it's it's not wholesome.
• 14:14
SPEAKER_03: That in that there is there is some wholesome moments.
• 14:19
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, but the there there are like some pretty dark themes.
• 14:23
SPEAKER_06: So um yeah, so Twin Peaks is the show that everyone kind of like talks about when they mention you know the start of prestige television.
• 14:34
SPEAKER_06: Uh creators, uh the the creator who uh made sopranos has gone on record saying that sopranos would not exist had Twin Peaks not paved the way.
• 14:43
SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, David Chaser did actually say that he didn't?
• 14:47
SPEAKER_04: No, he he said that he was a huge fan of Twin Peaks, and he says that some some of David Lynch's work has like inspired him.
• 14:57
SPEAKER_04: Like David Lynch and Mark Frost, he felt like they were a great combination team, and he felt like they some of them had like inspired him to create better television, but he's never said like Sopranos wouldn't exist without Twin Peaks.
• 15:09
  SPEAKER_06: Alright, alright, that's that's fair.
• 15:11
SPEAKER_06: It's it's good to have someone fact check me out.
• 15:13
SPEAKER_03: That one season, that one terrible season that everybody hates, even though I do a rewatch every year.
• 15:19
SPEAKER_03: That one Tony dream season was probably inspired by this, by this, this dreaming in here.
• 15:25
  SPEAKER_03: I alright.
• 15:26
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that is a brutal time.
• 15:28
  SPEAKER_04: That's a rough time.
• 15:29
SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh, but I think the scenes, Rich, were like where Tony's standing in front of that White House at his cousin's there and keeps trying to grab his suitcase.
• 15:38
SPEAKER_04: But like those scenes, and then he like there's like another scene where he like looks up into a dark hallway.
• 15:42
SPEAKER_04: You can see how that would mirror the there's like the famous Laura Palmer hallway.
• 15:47
SPEAKER_04: Like her mom keeps like looking up where her room is, and then there's like a fan spinning around the fan.
• 15:51
SPEAKER_04: It's like it's very unsettling spaces that I think that like I think Sopranos definitely got a bit of that from Twin Peaks.
• 16:00
SPEAKER_04: But I like David Link, or I mean I'm but David Chase like never said never okay.
• 16:05
SPEAKER_03: So he he didn't actually Imagine Cooper said So wait, no F and coffee now.
• 16:11
SPEAKER_01: Um Do you think that this show would be even more unhinged if it was completely helmed by Lynch?
• 16:21
  SPEAKER_04: Yes.
• 16:22
SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, it wouldn't even be comprehensible.
• 16:24
SPEAKER_06: It would not even be comprehensible.
• 16:26
SPEAKER_06: I'm not I'm gonna be 100% with you right now.
• 16:28
SPEAKER_04: We have to do Mahone Drive after this.
• 16:30
SPEAKER_04: No, we don't really see that five things.
• 16:36
  SPEAKER_06: The Lost Highway.
• 16:38
SPEAKER_06: Imagine imagine uh Rich watching the telephone scene of Lost Highway.
• 16:42
  SPEAKER_06: Oh man.
• 16:44
SPEAKER_03: Guys, just so you know, I have no freaking clue what they're talking about.
• 16:50
  SPEAKER_06: Okay.
• 16:51
  SPEAKER_06: Twin Peaks.
• 16:53
SPEAKER_06: We begin um with uh on on the February 24th, we have the body of Laura Palmer being found.
• 17:01
SPEAKER_03: Um No, that's not how it begins.
• 17:03
  SPEAKER_03: You're wrong, Dakota.
• 17:04
  SPEAKER_03: I'm calling you out.
• 17:05
SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm taking this podcast off the goddamn rails because you know what happened?
• 17:09
  SPEAKER_03: Tell me.
• 17:10
SPEAKER_03: That's not how it happened for me.
• 17:11
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay, yeah.
• 17:12
SPEAKER_03: I may have had to do something a little bit a little bit maybe not honest, okay?
• 17:17
  SPEAKER_03: I don't have Paramount.
• 17:19
  SPEAKER_03: That's all I'll say.
• 17:19
SPEAKER_03: All right, and I may have had all the episodes what I thought were in order, and I clicked on episode eight.
• 17:28
SPEAKER_06: As the first episode, yeah.
• 17:29
SPEAKER_06: He watched uh the finale of the first season as the first episode, and then had to start over from the beginning.
• 17:38
SPEAKER_06: Plot twist, that was the right order.
• 17:42
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, as I described to everybody here, what was unbelievable was there were very few things that I was able to actually uh process in my cerebral cortex because it was so unhinged to what each like little like say uh you know, the A plot, the B plot, the C plot, the D plot, whatever, right?
• 18:04
SPEAKER_03: All those things were flashing with these people that I wasn't introduced to, right?
• 18:10
SPEAKER_03: And then something set me over the edge.
• 18:14
SPEAKER_03: Nadine and her freaking eye patch, right?
• 18:18
SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, I think that there's lots of mystery in eye patches.
• 18:21
SPEAKER_03: How often do you run into people with eye patches, right?
• 18:24
  SPEAKER_03: And you don't, right?
• 18:25
SPEAKER_03: So, like, I feel like there needs to be a reason for that.
• 18:29
SPEAKER_03: So she gets on the screen, and I'm so confused that as I described earlier, it was akin to those videos that make you as English speakers understand what non-English speakers hear when we're speaking, because none of it made any darn sense to me at all.
• 18:50
SPEAKER_03: And then the episode ends with to be continued, and I yelled, No F and crap, Sherlock.
• 18:59
  SPEAKER_03: This is episode one.
• 19:01
  SPEAKER_03: I need more.
• 19:02
SPEAKER_03: And then my wife, Lauren, says, you know, that usually happens at the end of a season, and I go to look at my file listing, and that's when I discover the error of my ways, ladies and gentlemen.
• 19:13
SPEAKER_00: What would you have done without your wife, man?
• 19:15
SPEAKER_00: You would have been like, what's going on here?
• 19:18
SPEAKER_03: Okay, I won't lie, it was almost like the time that you guys had me watch Bird movie, Birdman.
• 19:23
SPEAKER_06: Uh The Boy and the Heron.
• 19:25
  SPEAKER_06: He Birdman.
• 19:26
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 19:28
  SPEAKER_04: Like that superhero movie.
• 19:30
  SPEAKER_03: No, I know it's not.
• 19:31
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Boy and the Heron.
• 19:32
SPEAKER_03: I remember like watching it, and I stopped it after 35 minutes, and I said, I may have maybe it's the wrong thing.
• 19:42
  SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know what's happening.
• 19:45
  SPEAKER_03: What is going on?
• 19:46
SPEAKER_03: Why is Batista in this?
• 19:48
SPEAKER_03: Like, I had all questions, all right.
• 19:51
SPEAKER_03: And actually, I felt the same way.
• 19:53
SPEAKER_03: Like, it almost was like, Oh, maybe Dakota and Anthony set me up again.
• 19:58
  SPEAKER_03: You guys got me.
• 20:00
  SPEAKER_03: I'm confused.
• 20:01
  SPEAKER_03: All right.
• 20:01
SPEAKER_04: When I said to Dakota, I was like, I can't believe that you got that you got this on the show, first of all.
• 20:07
SPEAKER_04: And since Rich hated Boy and the Heron, he's going to hate Twin Peaks.
• 20:12
SPEAKER_04: Just because it's the like the Boy and the Heron's so abstract.
• 20:15
SPEAKER_04: And I feel like you're not you're not super abstract.
• 20:18
  SPEAKER_04: You're a very concrete thinker.
• 20:20
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 20:21
SPEAKER_01: The Boy and the Heron is like a tamer dream logic, although it still like goes off the rails.
• 20:28
SPEAKER_01: Um that's why I said like Mi Miyazaki is like the anime version of David Lynch, because like his stuff gets a bit weird too.
• 20:35
SPEAKER_01: But it it's just yeah, man.
• 20:37
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, there's no but Miyazaki, I don't think he would have done something like the the uh was it at the end of episode three, the like dream sequence.
• 20:49
  SPEAKER_01: So yes, yeah.
• 20:51
SPEAKER_03: All right, so why do you have to sit that way?
• 20:54
SPEAKER_03: He's sitting in a way, guys, with his background, of course, is Coop's dream.
• 20:59
SPEAKER_03: All right, and when Anthony speaks, he leans in, so just over his shoulders, all I see is the creepy stare of the little person in the red ghetto, right?
• 21:11
SPEAKER_03: And it just it's haunting.
• 21:13
SPEAKER_03: It's haunting in his little dance.
• 21:15
SPEAKER_04: When Dakota and I first watched this, I couldn't stop dancing around the house like that.
• 21:22
SPEAKER_01: It was backwards but like frontwards at the same time.
• 21:25
SPEAKER_06: Like they they they basically the words were backwards, but it was still in order.
• 21:32
  SPEAKER_06: Correct, yeah.
• 21:33
SPEAKER_06: Oh imagine learning lines backwards, like that, and and then having to like dance, because that's pretty much all shot in like one one go.
• 21:44
SPEAKER_06: Uh and and Laura Palmer did it too.
• 21:47
SPEAKER_04: Uh wait, so they were saying the lines backwards, and then they just reverse the whole take?
• 21:55
  SPEAKER_06: Correct, yeah.
• 21:56
SPEAKER_06: So the the lines are spoken instead of saying Cooper, you would say repook, you know, and then when you reverse that, it sounds like Cooper.
• 22:07
SPEAKER_06: Um so they would actually say all of their lines backwards, like phonetically, to the point where when when this when it's flipped uh in reverse, the words play in a way that we can uh auditorily understand them.
• 22:25
SPEAKER_06: Um they still add like dialogue and everything, but we're getting way ahead of ourselves.
• 22:30
SPEAKER_06: We're we're talking about like the craziest.
• 22:32
SPEAKER_06: I I knew we were gonna do this.
• 22:33
SPEAKER_06: We were just gonna jump straight into like the craziest scene of the show.
• 22:37
SPEAKER_06: Um of the first season, I should say, because there are other there are definitely crazier scenes in the show.
• 22:45
SPEAKER_06: Um this is not the first time we visit this location with the the red curtains and like the the black and white flooring.
• 22:54
SPEAKER_06: It it does eventually get a name, and we'll there's no real spoiler in saying the name here.
• 22:59
SPEAKER_06: It's called the Black Lodge.
• 23:02
SPEAKER_06: Don't know why it wouldn't wasn't called the Red Lodge, because everything's red in there, but it's called the Black Lodge, and I think it's more like like evil, you know, like Black Lodge.
• 23:11
SPEAKER_04: No, I there is a reason for the name, but I don't want to say that.
• 23:13
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, is there?
• 23:13
  SPEAKER_04: Okay, I it's a lot of people.
• 23:14
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like something to do with the town.
• 23:16
SPEAKER_06: Okay, so then we'll we'll talk about that when we get to it.
• 23:19
  SPEAKER_00: But buckle up, rich.
• 23:22
  SPEAKER_06: Buckle up, buttercup.
• 23:24
SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, so Laura Palmer is uh killed in the early morning of February 24th, and it washes ashore, and basically the whole town kind of goes into uh a bit of a freakout, you know, because it's a small town.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_06: Murder is not something that happens there.
• 23:46
SPEAKER_06: Laura is, by all intents and purposes, um, outwardly a very giving person.
• 23:53
SPEAKER_06: Um, she's tutoring several people, she's doing like meals on wheels for people, she's doing after school programs, she's literally doing everything possible.
• 24:04
  SPEAKER_04: She's a prom queen?
• 24:05
  SPEAKER_04: And everyone.
• 24:06
  SPEAKER_06: She's prom queen.
• 24:08
SPEAKER_06: Um and yeah, so outwardly she she seems to be like the you know, the the star of the town, the up-and-coming person in the town, and then that all comes crashing down the night that she's killed.
• 24:20
SPEAKER_06: And the rest of the show, or at least this first season, follows the mystery unfolding.
• 24:26
SPEAKER_06: Um, and that is uh brought to the fore by Dale Cooper, uh, agent Dale Cooper from the FBI who uh shows up on scene because the murder in question uh is similar-ish enough to a murder that happened a year prior.
• 24:44
SPEAKER_06: And he's he's thinking that this is a repeat offense.
• 24:47
SPEAKER_06: We don't know too much about what happened uh at this point in the story with uh the prior murder, but there are clues attached to Laura Palmer that basically bring it uh full circle for Dale Cooper, and and that kind of sets the whole story um up.
• 25:05
SPEAKER_06: Uh so let's let's start with uh Anthony.
• 25:09
SPEAKER_06: Like what are your thoughts overall?
• 25:12
SPEAKER_06: Um, at least with like the beginning of this, if not like this whole first season, because this is uh this is new for you.
• 25:18
SPEAKER_01: I feel I mean the like when when you get to the beginning, or like at the beginning it's still like fairly tame.
• 25:27
SPEAKER_01: You know, you get maybe a little bit of like you know, but well, because of you know what you've said and and you know, and you know, um well and I've heard you and Jen talk about it before, you know, I I was kind of like bracing for like okay, when is this thing going to start like getting weird?
• 25:45
SPEAKER_01: You know, so I was trying to, you know, I had my my like you know sensitivity.
• 25:51
  SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
• 25:52
SPEAKER_01: Every like little thing, but it was you know pretty tame.
• 25:56
SPEAKER_01: But like, yeah, man, the the the further you just like the more you watch, it's like one of those things that you're just like like you just you can't look away.
• 26:06
SPEAKER_01: It's like what it what's going on?
• 26:08
  SPEAKER_01: Like, huh?
• 26:09
SPEAKER_01: And like and and you're right, like they'll bring something up and then like you'll never hear about it again.
• 26:15
SPEAKER_06: Do you have any do you have like uh um an example of of that that like that they haven't brought up again or um that you could think of?
• 26:27
SPEAKER_01: Like I don't know, they they had like that J that was under her nail, they like never really like talked about that again.
• 26:34
SPEAKER_01: Okay um and like they were so fixated on like a bunch of J's.
• 26:39
SPEAKER_01: Bro, like he and then his um his like process of like trying to narrow down all the J's, like throwing the throwing balls at a glass and he's like he's like note that it hit the bottle but it didn't break.
• 26:58
SPEAKER_03: That was demo I don't I don't I had a really hard time I forgot you're you're I just say it say it what I just I I was so confused like it took me a while like uh so it's an older show and you know like some of the actors are are are really not on a lot of things.
• 27:22
SPEAKER_03: The uh the sheriff, right?
• 27:24
  SPEAKER_03: I think he's a sheriff, right?
• 27:25
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, not a constable or something like that.
• 27:27
SPEAKER_03: The sheriff is is actually from this movie Slapshot.
• 27:30
SPEAKER_03: He's like uh one of like the big time like uh kind of actors in that movie with uh Paul Newman as well.
• 27:37
SPEAKER_03: It's a very famous hockey movie that I'm a huge fan of because I'm old.
• 27:40
SPEAKER_03: Uh and so I it took me a while to like see him in this in in a different light, but I just it's they're all so weird.
• 27:51
SPEAKER_03: Like him dating what's her name?
• 27:53
  SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
• 27:54
SPEAKER_03: Josie, yeah, like he's like seeing her on the side.
• 27:58
SPEAKER_03: There's no cultural impact here.
• 28:00
SPEAKER_03: So uh with Josie, like and then he's just like, Well, I don't care because I love her, like I what like uh there was one line where they were like, Well, what do you think?
• 28:09
SPEAKER_03: Do you think she might be involved?
• 28:10
SPEAKER_03: And he's like, I love her and I'm gonna protect her no matter what.
• 28:13
SPEAKER_03: And he just like completely threw away like his cop life.
• 28:17
SPEAKER_03: Like there's so many just random.
• 28:20
  SPEAKER_03: Also, like, who's Diane?
• 28:22
SPEAKER_03: And and and the eye patch, like, did I miss something?
• 28:25
SPEAKER_03: No, no, we missed absolutely nothing.
• 28:27
SPEAKER_04: No, that's just I I know that it's just like when your coworker is on a Zoom call near you and you don't know who they're talking to, but you know they're having a conversation.
• 28:38
SPEAKER_04: Like, you don't need to know who they're talking to.
• 28:39
SPEAKER_04: You know that there's somebody named Diane on the other line.
• 28:42
SPEAKER_03: Why can't you guys just let me watch forward so I can answer these questions?
• 28:46
SPEAKER_04: Like, because then you would like you would be answering all the questions in this episode completely differently.
• 28:51
  SPEAKER_04: Yes.
• 28:52
SPEAKER_03: I've never can you give me one example, one-eyed Tony, of me ever doing Rings of Power.
• 29:00
SPEAKER_01: Um several times uh the Smallville episode.
• 29:05
SPEAKER_03: I did not watch all of Smallville just because we did one season, guys.
• 29:10
SPEAKER_01: Okay, but yeah, no, the the like voice recorder thing is like hilarious.
• 29:16
SPEAKER_01: Like he's like talking on the thing, like he's talking on a phone to Diane, and he's just like telling her, and he's like recording just a whole bunch of like irrelevant information.
• 29:26
SPEAKER_01: Like when the the Icelandic people like showed up and he's like, Do you hear this?
• 29:31
  SPEAKER_00: Um he's like, I can't sleep.
• 29:34
  SPEAKER_00: He's like recording it.
• 29:37
SPEAKER_01: But um it's he needed his earplugged, yes, yes.
• 29:42
SPEAKER_01: Honestly, though, I I I really do like Dale Cooper, he's very odd.
• 29:46
SPEAKER_01: I like Harry too because Harry just goes along with like Cooper's like crazy antics, and it's almost like he he like gets a kick out of it like the rest of us do.
• 29:57
SPEAKER_06: Uh you want to know uh one of my favorite scenes that um is just so David Lynch and it has no bearing on the story whatsoever, and it kind of like almost like makes you second guess like what whatever the heck you're watching.
• 30:13
SPEAKER_06: It's a scene where um Audrey Horne's family is eating dinner in silence, and uh I think it's Barry, uh Ben.
• 30:24
SPEAKER_06: Ben he shows up with baguettes, uh like sandwiches from France, and he's they they all just start like just sumptuously eating these like sandwiches.
• 30:35
SPEAKER_06: There's no reason for that entire scene.
• 30:37
SPEAKER_06: It's the most amazing thing.
• 30:40
SPEAKER_04: But I like you could argue like the reason for that scene is to show like their animalistic gluttony.
• 30:46
SPEAKER_04: Okay, like they're super gluttonous, and the way that they're handling the sandwiches like like items, like obviously the sandwiches aren't real, but I feel like like obviously they're not like people, but I think it's kind of indicative of how they treat women as well.
• 31:00
SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's a really good way to look at it, actually.
• 31:02
  SPEAKER_04: Like it's I'm happy that they're they're very gluttonous, they're very greedy, they're gross, like they're they're just like gross.
• 31:08
SPEAKER_06: Also, did we notice that their their names are Ben and Jerry, the brothers, and then they have a scene where they're sharing a bowl of ice cream or a cup of ice cream.
• 31:19
SPEAKER_01: You know the actor was it that that that plays the the brother?
• 31:24
SPEAKER_01: He was actually like the main antagonist in that movie, The Warriors.
• 31:28
SPEAKER_06: Oh, it's been a minute since I've seen that.
• 31:30
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 31:31
SPEAKER_01: I was like, when I saw him, I was like, wait a second, he looks familiar.
• 31:34
SPEAKER_01: And I looked it up and I was like, yep, that's him.
• 31:36
SPEAKER_01: Like he he's got like a I don't know, he's got a really strong face, so it kind of stuck, you know, it sticks out.
• 31:44
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 31:45
SPEAKER_06: Um he's well he's well traveled, too.
• 31:48
  SPEAKER_03: Strong actress.
• 31:50
  SPEAKER_03: What?
• 31:51
SPEAKER_03: I thought Audrey was a good character, a strong actress, uh reasons, just uh just really believable.
• 31:57
SPEAKER_06: Uh rich Rich has uh confused Rich had a crush on Audrey, clearly.
• 32:03
  SPEAKER_02: Who doesn't?
• 32:04
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a very, very honestly very pretty actress, yeah.
• 32:07
SPEAKER_03: Although I did see Laura Flynn Boyle, and all I could think was there was like uh a scene in Family Guy where apparently Peter was being paid to warm Laura Flynn Boyle by having her like stay in the fat the folds of his fat.
• 32:23
SPEAKER_03: And he's like, Oh yeah, it's like the time I got I got paid to like warm Laura Flynn Boyle and he's like sitting in bed and he just like she like rolls out and just like folds so like that's all I could think about when I saw her in the show.
• 32:35
SPEAKER_03: Um okay, I just also why is everybody cheating on every I was I just is Josie sleeping with Catherine's husband?
• 32:47
SPEAKER_03: Like, I actually can't, I feel like that meme of Charlie Day from you know it's always sunny in Philadelphia, trying to figure out who's banging who.
• 32:59
  SPEAKER_03: Like, I I don't even know if I can so Josie's also banging Audrey's dad?
• 33:04
SPEAKER_04: Well, they imply that there's like a weird they're in cahoots, they didn't show that they're hooking up necessarily, but I think he's sexual with every woman that he meets, and so he's being very sexual towards her, like his his like weird communication, and like I don't know, you could see he's like leering at her, um, but they haven't like in this season gone farther than that.
• 33:28
SPEAKER_06: But there's also uh a potential that she's hooking up with Hank, uh Norma's Norma's husband, who just got out of prison.
• 33:37
SPEAKER_06: What she's she I she is one of those characters that will like use uh her body for power and you know influence, you know.
• 33:47
SPEAKER_03: So and and Hank was in prison because he got pulled over by the cops after an accident that with So Josie's husband died in a boating accident.
• 33:59
SPEAKER_04: So she's a widow and she's like playing it off as she's like the lonely innocent widow.
• 34:04
SPEAKER_04: But Hank gets out of prison and is talking with her about how he's taken the fall for some crime.
• 34:11
  SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
• 34:12
SPEAKER_04: It's that we're not expecting showing you that it's like very suspicious circumstances, and like that whole scene is to show you like you really shouldn't trust Josie the same way uh Truman does.
• 34:24
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 34:25
SPEAKER_01: So something else that like I liked, and it was like you know, they're showing like parallels.
• 34:31
SPEAKER_01: So there's always this like soap opera playing in the background, and like they were like showing parallels, and and I was thinking that there were a lot of moments where this show was very soapy, it got really, really like soapy, and it's but like especially with the placement of the music.
• 34:49
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, yeah, I feel like I'm watching a soap opera right now.
• 34:52
SPEAKER_01: And the um overacting in those moments sometimes too.
• 34:58
  SPEAKER_01: I'm like, there's I don't think it's for from the times.
• 35:01
  SPEAKER_01: I think that's just on purpose.
• 35:02
SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, they were definitely going for a feel.
• 35:05
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
• 35:05
SPEAKER_06: I was like they were definitely going for a feel.
• 35:07
SPEAKER_01: I was like, I yeah, I don't think that that they're doing this like just because you know it was like the 80s, 90s.
• 35:15
SPEAKER_01: The yeah, um the this is just yeah, the the vibe of the show.
• 35:18
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, like they always had and like that was like the only show that was ever on was that show.
• 35:24
SPEAKER_01: It was like I forgot, was it like Love Something?
• 35:28
  SPEAKER_01: Invitation to Love.
• 35:29
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes, that.
• 35:32
SPEAKER_01: And yeah, yeah, no, there's just a lot that was just going on in the show.
• 35:39
SPEAKER_01: Laura Palmer's dad like lost it.
• 35:42
  SPEAKER_01: Lost it.
• 35:43
SPEAKER_01: That man was just he just wanted somebody to dance with.
• 35:47
  SPEAKER_01: Leland Palmer.
• 35:48
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Leland, yeah.
• 35:50
SPEAKER_01: It's crazy because I've seen Ray Wise and some stuff like later on.
• 35:54
SPEAKER_01: So seeing him in this show, I'm like, dang, he's so much younger.
• 35:58
SPEAKER_01: I'm used to seeing him like really old.
• 36:00
SPEAKER_06: It's the same for uh it's the same for like Kyle McLaughlin.
• 36:03
SPEAKER_06: You know, he's a he's a huge character actor, he's been in a whole bunch of stuff.
• 36:07
SPEAKER_06: Agents of Shield, he's in Fallout now.
• 36:08
SPEAKER_06: Um Sax in the City, yeah, yeah.
• 36:11
  SPEAKER_06: Sax in the City.
• 36:11
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he's been in a he's been in quite a lot over the years, and um very accomplished.
• 36:16
SPEAKER_06: He was in Dune, 1984, Anthony.
• 36:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, he played Paul Traides.
• 36:21
SPEAKER_01: Another day another David Lynch weird thing.
• 36:25
SPEAKER_03: Don't even try it, guys.
• 36:27
  SPEAKER_01: Watch it, Rich.
• 36:28
SPEAKER_01: We already covered it, but watch it.
• 36:30
SPEAKER_06: So yeah, it's it's really cool seeing a younger Kyle McLachlan because he's just so uh gregarious and happy all the time.
• 36:41
SPEAKER_06: Until like he's very serious, he goes from like very serious to like very like um childlike wonder.
• 36:47
SPEAKER_06: Like there's a scene where he sees ducks in the pond and he's just like ducks in the water.
• 36:52
  SPEAKER_03: Yes, ducks?
• 36:53
SPEAKER_03: Oh my god and the trees.
• 36:54
  SPEAKER_03: Imagine this idea.
• 36:56
SPEAKER_03: Like I think that David Lynch, for me, the ducks definitely like if there's like he may not have said that everything influenced Sopranos, but Tony's obsession with the ducks like I feel like has to be a reference to Twin Peaks.
• 37:11
  SPEAKER_03: I I don't doubt it.
• 37:12
  SPEAKER_03: I don't doubt it.
• 37:13
SPEAKER_01: David Chase said, like and I I love it when he says this stuff, and like Harry's always there when he's saying this stuff, and he just like the way he is.
• 37:23
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Harry Truman.
• 37:24
SPEAKER_03: He's he's always can I ask you guys like clarifying questions about the characters?
• 37:28
  SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
• 37:28
SPEAKER_03: All right, Norma and Shelly work together at the diner.
• 37:34
  SPEAKER_03: Correct.
• 37:34
  SPEAKER_03: Shelly is with Leo.
• 37:36
  SPEAKER_06: Leo Leo Johnson, yeah.
• 37:38
SPEAKER_06: She's married to Leo Johnson.
• 37:39
SPEAKER_03: Who's comic, he's like a comically like terrible husband.
• 37:43
SPEAKER_03: Like his abusiveness is uh I don't want to make light of it of of of offering.
• 37:48
  SPEAKER_03: Where's my shirt, Shelly?
• 37:52
SPEAKER_03: All right, I will make fun of abuse.
• 37:54
SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you, when he gets home, like I just tried, like I kind of like re-like imagined that as like me coming home, right?
• 38:00
SPEAKER_03: Like, Lauren, where's my best jersey?
• 38:04
SPEAKER_03: Like, I told you my like the Lacone jersey had to be washed by now.
• 38:09
SPEAKER_03: Like the ridiculousness of it, the fact, like, I know, I know that in relationships women don't run, but like what?
• 38:16
SPEAKER_03: Like, so there's one point where I can't even remember that like Norma and Shelly say like there's a guy that they're both that's both into both of them.
• 38:25
  SPEAKER_03: What?
• 38:27
  SPEAKER_06: I'm trying to remember.
• 38:28
SPEAKER_03: Like there's a guy who's like flirting, like flirts with both of them and is like seems to be like into both of them.
• 38:33
  SPEAKER_03: That's not Leo.
• 38:34
  SPEAKER_03: Is it Hank?
• 38:35
SPEAKER_04: I'm so Oh, are you thinking of um Bobby?
• 38:39
  SPEAKER_03: Yes.
• 38:40
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, Bobby.
• 38:41
SPEAKER_04: Because Bobby, like, he Bobby like just flirts with Norma to try to keep him off the fact that he's hooking up with Shelly.
• 38:48
SPEAKER_04: And then they get into the car and and he's like, I think she knows about us, and she's like, No, not Norma.
• 38:54
SPEAKER_04: And then they like make out right in front of the window.
• 38:56
SPEAKER_03: So it's like, you guys, if Norma knows, see, like those are the things that confused me because I'm like, if you're trying to hide, why don't you just like leave?
• 39:03
SPEAKER_03: Like go 10 paces away from the freaking clear window.
• 39:08
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they were like right in front of the window, making actually like Norma doesn't know anything.
• 39:12
SPEAKER_04: Let's make out right here in front of her.
• 39:16
SPEAKER_01: Um, but then like Norma has her own thing going on with uh everyone's cheating on big Eddie.
• 39:21
SPEAKER_03: Why is Big Ed Big Ed seems to love Nadine so much?
• 39:24
SPEAKER_03: Why does he cheat on her?
• 39:26
SPEAKER_03: Is it because she isn't?
• 39:27
SPEAKER_04: You don't find out until next season.
• 39:28
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, there's more info.
• 39:30
SPEAKER_03: Did he when he married Nadine is bonkers?
• 39:33
SPEAKER_01: And I feel like she doesn't need that eyebatch.
• 39:38
SPEAKER_04: I feel like you don't need those glasses, one-eyed Tony.
• 39:42
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what was that?
• 39:43
SPEAKER_03: That she put cotton on the on the curtain rods to make it quieter.
• 39:48
  SPEAKER_03: She wanted silent curve.
• 39:49
SPEAKER_06: She wanted perfect like 100% silent curtains.
• 39:54
SPEAKER_04: She thought like she was creating a really good invention, and when she finally cracks it, she's like, I'm gonna make us so.
• 40:00
SPEAKER_04: Much money, and she's talking about all the stuff that they're gonna do with their money because she thinks her invention is really good.
• 40:05
SPEAKER_04: She was trying to support her family.
• 40:07
SPEAKER_03: But our curtain, I don't maybe I don't like open curtains enough.
• 40:10
SPEAKER_03: Like, is there a sound of the sound?
• 40:12
SPEAKER_03: It's like a it's like a shh sh, you know, like oh, so so she's just she's eliminating that, yeah.
• 40:21
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she's even weirder than I thought.
• 40:26
SPEAKER_03: But then why does Ed just not leave her?
• 40:29
SPEAKER_06: I think because she's kind of hopeless, you know.
• 40:31
SPEAKER_06: I I think that's ultimately um, at least from what we see in this first season, he clearly does love her, but more as like um a sister at this point in in their relationship.
• 40:44
SPEAKER_06: Like he clearly cares for her um on a familial level, but he doesn't have a romantic attachment to her anymore.
• 40:50
SPEAKER_03: Um which very games of throny.
• 40:52
SPEAKER_03: Like stay stay with her stay with your you know, someone because you love them like a sister.
• 40:57
  SPEAKER_03: I guess so.
• 40:58
  SPEAKER_06: I guess so.
• 40:59
SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, there's there's a lot of um a lot of cheating going on in this show.
• 41:04
SPEAKER_03: Is there anybody who doesn't so does Josie live with Catherine and who's his name?
• 41:09
SPEAKER_03: Catherine and uh who's her husband?
• 41:14
  SPEAKER_06: Uh Pete.
• 41:15
  SPEAKER_06: Pete Martell.
• 41:16
  SPEAKER_06: Pete.
• 41:17
SPEAKER_06: Does Pete does does she live with them?
• 41:20
  SPEAKER_06: I think she rents a place.
• 41:24
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think I think, yeah, yes.
• 41:26
SPEAKER_04: They have like a really big house, and I think it's like there's like a bunch of different areas in it, and I think she lived there, I'm assuming she lived there with her husband before he died, and she's just kind of and then like the the whole mill went to her in the will, and the sister Catherine got written out, so that's why there's like a lot of animosity between them because Catherine, like it's her family's business, so she knows the ins and outs of it.
• 41:51
  SPEAKER_06: That's that's right.
• 41:52
SPEAKER_06: Josie was married to Catherine's blood brother, so they all kind of live together in a big house.
• 41:59
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's it's a messy situation for sure.
• 42:02
SPEAKER_01: The house on the hill.
• 42:03
  SPEAKER_06: Right.
• 42:04
SPEAKER_06: What did we think of some of like the police officer, like you know, the the the whole officer situation?
• 42:10
SPEAKER_06: Because there's there's um Deputy Hawk, the the Native American guy.
• 42:15
SPEAKER_06: I actually really like Hawk.
• 42:16
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I like he has like a more prominent role in the next season.
• 42:21
  SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
• 42:22
SPEAKER_06: Um there's Andy, of course.
• 42:24
SPEAKER_01: Uh I liked Andy too.
• 42:26
SPEAKER_01: He you know, he was kind of oaf like Andy, you know, some comedic relief.
• 42:31
SPEAKER_01: You know, until until you know he had his moment that uh that impressed um what's it what's her name?
• 42:38
SPEAKER_01: The the one that runs the dispatch.
• 42:40
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 42:42
  SPEAKER_03: What a character.
• 42:44
SPEAKER_04: I I feel like Lucy could work at our school.
• 42:47
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I know.
• 42:48
SPEAKER_03: She seemed oddly to me the most real person in that police department.
• 42:54
SPEAKER_03: Like the most like that.
• 42:56
SPEAKER_03: I'm like, yeah, that's a human that I know that I could probably interact with, you know, like consistently just I love like how there were times.
• 43:03
  SPEAKER_03: Sheriff Truman.
• 43:05
SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm sorry, I have to follow my responsibility.
• 43:07
SPEAKER_03: Like, I have to go do my responsibility, you know, like and she like would just run off and like she I I I thought like she was I I I I don't know.
• 43:18
SPEAKER_03: I I thought we were all supposed to understand that she was like really crazy, and then everybody just seems to be like, oh yeah, no, it's kind of the normal.
• 43:25
  SPEAKER_04: I think she's just quirky.
• 43:26
SPEAKER_04: I think that's like a town of quirky people.
• 43:27
SPEAKER_06: I think, yeah, I think it's a town full of quirky people, so they all just kind of get along.
• 43:32
SPEAKER_06: I think they have to.
• 43:33
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 43:34
SPEAKER_01: I like that there was always a ton of donuts.
• 43:39
SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, did you not get hungry watching this show?
• 43:42
SPEAKER_06: Like like there, I'd be watching it, but it's like, I want a black coffee now.
• 43:46
  SPEAKER_06: I want some pie.
• 43:47
SPEAKER_01: But like some donuts moments, and I'm like, oh my gosh.
• 43:50
SPEAKER_01: That's way too many donuts.
• 43:52
SPEAKER_01: She got like the town's worth of donuts here.
• 43:56
SPEAKER_04: That one scene where they like shoot the bird and the blood goes all over the donuts.
• 44:00
SPEAKER_04: I was like, oh man, those looked so good too.
• 44:03
  SPEAKER_04: So disappointing.
• 44:06
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
• 44:07
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 44:08
SPEAKER_01: And they they had um they went to like they went into like that one uh what was it, um, Jox apartment and just had like donuts there too.
• 44:16
  SPEAKER_04: Donuts everywhere.
• 44:18
SPEAKER_04: One of the famous Steven Lynch quote is keep your eye on the donut, not the hole.
• 44:23
SPEAKER_04: Donuts are like a big metaphor for uh life.
• 44:26
SPEAKER_01: They put it in your face.
• 44:28
  SPEAKER_01: Donuts everywhere.
• 44:30
SPEAKER_04: And then when he died, I think like people were leaving like donuts on his grave.
• 44:34
SPEAKER_04: Like people were leaving a bunch of stuff in memorial.
• 44:36
SPEAKER_04: And there was also like a diner that he used to go to.
• 44:38
SPEAKER_04: Um, like he famously went, I think it was called Big Boy Diner or Good Boy?
• 44:42
SPEAKER_06: Uh Big Boy Burger or something.
• 44:44
  SPEAKER_04: Big Boy Burger.
• 44:45
SPEAKER_04: And like people were leaving like cigarettes and donuts and cups of coffee, like all the things that he loved what they were leaving for him.
• 44:52
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 44:52
SPEAKER_01: Well, is it when when it when it gets to the point, like, you know, and hopefully it's not until way down the road, but when it when uh Kyle McLaughlin passes away, somebody should leave a voice recorder like just on his own.
• 45:07
SPEAKER_06: My question is, when is he sending Diane these voice recordings?
• 45:10
SPEAKER_06: Because like she does interact with it, you know, like she she sends him earplugs.
• 45:16
  SPEAKER_06: What?
• 45:17
SPEAKER_04: It's very quick too, because he records it.
• 45:19
SPEAKER_04: Is it like he's snail mailing the recording to her?
• 45:22
SPEAKER_04: And then she like how quickly could she be getting these things from where he is, you know?
• 45:27
SPEAKER_01: It'd be snail mail for sure.
• 45:29
SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, there's like did they have expressions?
• 45:31
SPEAKER_01: You can't upload the files.
• 45:32
  SPEAKER_04: What was the question?
• 45:33
SPEAKER_06: We didn't have internet like that back then.
• 45:35
SPEAKER_06: Like this was 1989, yeah.
• 45:38
  SPEAKER_06: So that's what I was thinking.
• 45:40
SPEAKER_04: I was like, this isn't like that's the that that that's something I considered.
• 45:43
SPEAKER_04: Like, this isn't really super practical in 89 of all the crazy things that happened.
• 45:47
SPEAKER_03: Maybe you could have used uh it was a company called Federal Express.
• 45:52
SPEAKER_03: Uh never heard of it was changed to Fed X, but uh yeah, no, Federal Express.
• 45:58
SPEAKER_03: Uh that was probably your only option.
• 46:00
SPEAKER_03: Uh were they overnight and stuff?
• 46:02
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, actually.
• 46:02
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 46:03
  SPEAKER_03: Yes.
• 46:04
SPEAKER_03: My uh my uncle worked for them and I got a jacket for free, so I knew a lot about them.
• 46:09
SPEAKER_01: Are you telling me my packages just don't appear on my porch one day?
• 46:12
SPEAKER_01: Somebody actually drops them off.
• 46:14
  SPEAKER_03: It's crazy.
• 46:15
  SPEAKER_03: It's it's not a drone, it's a real human.
• 46:19
SPEAKER_03: Have you guys have you guys?
• 46:20
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that would freak me out.
• 46:22
SPEAKER_01: You hear like the the the like the um propellers just like because they they're loud.
• 46:27
SPEAKER_01: They'd be loud because it'd be giant.
• 46:30
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 46:31
SPEAKER_06: But yeah, no, it's yeah, I Oh wait, speaking of FedEx, have you guys uh ever noticed that there's a there's a hidden um arrow in the logo?
• 46:41
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
• 46:42
SPEAKER_06: Between the between the E and the X.
• 46:43
SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 46:44
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 46:45
SPEAKER_06: I always thought that was cool.
• 46:46
SPEAKER_06: Anyway, um what is your opinion on Dale Cooper?
• 46:53
SPEAKER_06: Because he's kind of an eccentric figure.
• 46:55
SPEAKER_06: He is the main character of the show, and we follow a lot of his logic as as he you know kind of sometimes literally dreams it, you know.
• 47:06
SPEAKER_06: Um, but it it does propel the show forward.
• 47:08
SPEAKER_06: Like what are what are our thoughts on Dale Cooper?
• 47:11
SPEAKER_06: Uh I'll go I'll start with imaging, because uh I wanna I want to hear your opinion on Dale.
• 47:16
SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think Dale Cruper is just like such uh I love how much she accepts the town of Beacon, uh of Beacon.
• 47:23
  SPEAKER_04: Of Twin Peaks.
• 47:24
  SPEAKER_04: I don't know why I said Beacon.
• 47:26
SPEAKER_04: Um I love how wait, I'm gonna start over.
• 47:28
SPEAKER_04: I love how much she accepts the town of Twin Peaks and accepts the people in it.
• 47:33
SPEAKER_04: Um you can see like that huge difference when what's the what's the FBI agent that comes into the town?
• 47:40
SPEAKER_04: He brings that guy in.
• 47:42
SPEAKER_06: Oh, um I forget off topic.
• 47:44
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, for fun.
• 47:45
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the forensics guy.
• 47:46
SPEAKER_03: That guy's a jerk in a lot of movies.
• 47:48
SPEAKER_04: He brings him in and it shows like the the difference between like the type of people he's used to working with and why he loves the people of Twin Peaks as much as he does.
• 47:59
SPEAKER_04: He loves like their innocence, their gen their genuine like love of good.
• 48:03
SPEAKER_04: And it's soon after that that he says to Diane, like, I think I want to buy property here, like very cheap property, because he realizes like this is the type of place I would want to retire.
• 48:13
SPEAKER_04: He sees like overall the people there are good and trying, and he just he really loves like the nature, the goodness of the people, the good food.
• 48:22
SPEAKER_04: It's really the simple things in life.
• 48:24
  unknown: Yeah.
• 48:24
SPEAKER_04: I also one thing that I love about Dale Cooper is like they have all of that romantic tension with Audrey, and like obviously she's kind of throwing herself at him, and she's she is 18 years old, so technically it is legal, right?
• 48:40
SPEAKER_04: That he could technically date her, but he knows like what she needs right now is a friend, and that she's young and impressionable, and that that would be morally wrong, if not.
• 48:51
SPEAKER_06: And he actually even mentions that there's a power dynamic that um he doesn't that that would be wrong, which I feel like is a is a much more new concept in terms of how we think of uh relationships with varying ages.
• 49:07
  SPEAKER_04: Especially for Bad Men.
• 49:09
  SPEAKER_03: Padme didn't care.
• 49:10
  SPEAKER_04: Padme didn't care.
• 49:11
  SPEAKER_06: Badmate did not care.
• 49:12
SPEAKER_06: No, she used her influence.
• 49:14
  SPEAKER_03: Uh she's like, I'm I'm a I'm a literal queen.
• 49:16
SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna date this young guy, like whatever.
• 49:19
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this is like at a time where like like teen magazines or like magazines, like those, you know, celebrity magazines were putting countdowns for when women turned 18.
• 49:27
SPEAKER_04: You know, like think about that.
• 49:29
SPEAKER_04: And then here's this guy who's like, yeah, you're 18, but that would be morally wrong.
• 49:33
SPEAKER_04: And you compare that to characters like Augery's own father, who clearly treat women like meat, who just want the new girl of the week.
• 49:41
  SPEAKER_04: You know, it's like he's just a stand-up guy.
• 49:44
SPEAKER_04: He's not perfect, but he's genuinely good and accepts people for who they are.
• 49:48
SPEAKER_06: And I do like the fact that he is the voice of reason in the town, in a town that like everyone's sleeping with everyone, you know, like he's the one who's just like, actually, this is wrong.
• 49:59
SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna do that.
• 50:00
SPEAKER_06: But he's not judging anyone at the same time, which I also like.
• 50:04
SPEAKER_06: You know, he's just he's just kind of like uh he's got his own bro code that he sticks to.
• 50:08
  SPEAKER_04: He's got integrity, yeah.
• 50:10
  SPEAKER_04: Integrity.
• 50:11
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 50:11
SPEAKER_06: What are your thoughts on him?
• 50:12
SPEAKER_01: And when somebody does good, he hits him with a thumbs up.
• 50:14
SPEAKER_06: A lot of thumbs up from Dale Cooper in the show.
• 50:17
SPEAKER_06: I've seen like montages of like thumbs up with him.
• 50:20
SPEAKER_06: Um, what are your what are your thoughts on Dale Cooper, Anthony?
• 50:23
  SPEAKER_01: Oh man, yeah.
• 50:23
  SPEAKER_01: No, I I I like him.
• 50:25
SPEAKER_01: He he definitely he's a good uh lead for the show.
• 50:30
SPEAKER_01: I think that the casting was really good.
• 50:34
SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I I just I do I like that he's somebody that does he has like this childlike wonderment in this area.
• 50:43
SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean we've caught it a couple times where like he was wondering about the trees and you know about the ducks in the pond and you know just and then like you know, coffee, like loving coffee and all that stuff.
• 50:56
SPEAKER_01: It's it you know, it it it it's really like I love that he has that other side that when when it's time to get serious, like he's really good at like you know deducing things and you know I it it's crazy how like his dream logic is like lighting things up in in the real world, so it's it's cool, like it's but I don't know how how much of it's gonna actually mean anything, yeah.
• 51:25
SPEAKER_01: You know, of course what's it what it's gonna mean in the why is there a fish in the percolator?
• 51:30
SPEAKER_04: One thing that I do really like about the show is it takes like they're looking for hard evidence, they're you know, looking at the little pieces of paper under people's fingernails or like the clear evidence, but they also take stock in the idea of intuition and like going with your gut and going with a feeling that you have, or believing in this idea of like prevailing good and trying to like let fate guide you to that.
• 51:55
SPEAKER_04: You know, it's very like again, David Lynch is super abstract, and he blends the idea of being like an FBI agent with understanding the fantastical and understanding that there are things that happen in the world that you might not be able to explain in a factual way.
• 52:11
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I like that.
• 52:12
SPEAKER_06: Uh Rich, thoughts on Dale Cooper?
• 52:14
SPEAKER_06: Why do you why do you hate him so much?
• 52:16
  SPEAKER_03: No, I don't actually hate him.
• 52:18
  SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't I think that I'm just kidding.
• 52:21
SPEAKER_03: I actually think that he's I mean Audrey, no.
• 52:26
SPEAKER_03: Um but um the uh I I actually think he's my favorite character.
• 52:33
SPEAKER_03: Like he oddly enough, he makes the most sense to me.
• 52:37
  SPEAKER_03: Right?
• 52:38
SPEAKER_03: Everybody else with their infidelity and their lying and their duplicitousness, I don't know, I don't understand any where anyone's coming from, where any what anyone wants, why they're doing what they're doing, again, why do you have the eye patch?
• 52:50
  SPEAKER_03: Like so many things.
• 52:52
SPEAKER_03: But he like other than like who the heck is Diane, right?
• 52:55
  SPEAKER_03: That's I obvious I'm a burning question, you know.
• 52:58
  SPEAKER_03: It's like I I want to know.
• 53:00
SPEAKER_03: Um just wait till he gets that.
• 53:03
SPEAKER_03: Like other than that, like it's it, it's it's it's it's weird to me.
• 53:07
SPEAKER_03: Like, by the way, if Diane is like some sort of code name for like like the department of the interior against new environments, uh I'm gonna be really annoyed.
• 53:20
SPEAKER_03: Like if that's just new environments is I was just trying to think of a Diane would come out too.
• 53:29
SPEAKER_03: Uh but yeah, no, I I actually so yeah, I mean, okay.
• 53:34
SPEAKER_03: I go so confused, like the bottle thing, right?
• 53:37
SPEAKER_03: Like, like Harry Tay what it's the other people just watching it happen that just confused me more than anything, right?
• 53:44
SPEAKER_03: Like I can deal with weird people, but usually you see people react to the weird people in a way that makes you know, oh, that's a weird person, right?
• 53:53
SPEAKER_03: Whereas he's doing these weird things and they're like totally cool, you know.
• 53:57
SPEAKER_03: And then like his uh what did he say to Harry one time?
• 54:01
SPEAKER_03: Like, they had to leave.
• 54:03
SPEAKER_03: And uh I think Shelly asked, like, do you want a coffee?
• 54:06
SPEAKER_03: And he's like, you know, sometimes, sometimes you need to stop and give yourself a gift.
• 54:11
  SPEAKER_03: Every single day.
• 54:12
SPEAKER_03: I just don't know when that gift's gonna come, you know, and and when it comes, you just gotta accept it.
• 54:17
SPEAKER_03: And it's just like he's just like explaining away like another reason to just have another cup of Joe.
• 54:23
SPEAKER_03: Uh, I I do love his explanation of coffee.
• 54:26
SPEAKER_03: Uh, it reminds me of my uh junior year English teacher where he asked him, How do you like your coffee?
• 54:30
SPEAKER_03: And he said, uh just like I like my my women.
• 54:32
SPEAKER_03: Uh and he's a 65-year-old, uh, quite uh Caucasian man, and he said, uh, black he's like black piping hot and uh full of sugar.
• 54:44
SPEAKER_03: And we just and he left.
• 54:46
SPEAKER_03: He left the room, and the three 17-year-olds just sat there going, did Mr.
• 54:51
  SPEAKER_03: Velucci just say that?
• 54:54
SPEAKER_03: And his the way this guy just very passionately describes his coffee, I I respect it, you know, I I do.
• 55:02
SPEAKER_03: As a man who as a man who just recently was able to eat a hundred hot dogs in one calendar year and documented it in my notes app, all right, with different nuances for every hot dog I had over the entire year of 2025, ending in my Hispanic mom boiling it and putting it in a wonderbred low piece, just like when I grew up.
• 55:26
SPEAKER_03: I respect Coop and I honestly grew a deep affinity for him because he makes the most sense.
• 55:33
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 55:33
SPEAKER_01: He just has a passion for You know you don't like your coffee black as midnight on a moonless night?
• 55:39
  SPEAKER_01: I do, actually.
• 55:40
SPEAKER_06: That's that's that is how to do it.
• 55:42
SPEAKER_06: When I when I started watching this show, I was so happy to see that everybody drinks their coffee black.
• 55:48
SPEAKER_06: I was just like, this is my kind of town.
• 55:50
  SPEAKER_06: Um, yeah.
• 55:52
SPEAKER_06: But uh I actually really like that quote from Cooper about giving yourself a present once a day.
• 55:59
SPEAKER_06: You know, you never know where it's gonna show up, but you know, it just it do something nice for yourself.
• 56:04
SPEAKER_06: Oh, you got a Red Bull at 845 in the Oh, I thought my friends Red Bull.
• 56:14
SPEAKER_06: Um But yeah, I I I I really appreciate that logic because it's so it's not telling you to be like greedy, or it's not telling you to be um, you know, only look out for yourself or anything like that.
• 56:29
SPEAKER_06: But it's just like you know, you have to look out for yourself too.
• 56:32
SPEAKER_06: You have to be nice to yourself, and without that, what are you living for?
• 56:35
SPEAKER_06: You know, and I I really I really appreciate that uh little nugget of wisdom that is undoubtedly uh David Lynch idea.
• 56:44
  SPEAKER_06: That's not a Mark Frost idea, that's a David Lynch idea.
• 56:47
SPEAKER_04: The thing about David Lynch is like he he genuinely believed in goodness, and like his like he spent a lot of his life actively working towards world peace and like publicly stating that he thinks world peace is a real and attainable thing that we can all achieve.
• 57:05
SPEAKER_04: So he wrote a book on transcendental meditation that I've read twice, and it's like really weird and like spiritual, and it's all about like him meditating, and he set up in different schools programs where they like all of the kids could go and meditate meditate and be taught how to meditate.
• 57:22
SPEAKER_04: And he like that whole it's like a lifestyle, right?
• 57:26
SPEAKER_04: Of being good to others, being good also to yourself.
• 57:30
SPEAKER_04: And you can see Dale Cooper has a lot of those mentalities of just like believing in your dreams, finding weird ways to think about things and break information down, and just overall having a good nature and like happiness in your heart is the most important thing in life.
• 57:45
SPEAKER_06: But when it comes to Dale's dreams, it gets pretty wild.
• 57:49
SPEAKER_06: Actually, you know, before we even jump into that, uh, because I do want to save that for the end, but there there are a lot of weird things that happen in this town, um, in terms of like the there's a whole secret organization to fight against some of the weird stuff that happens, this like inherent evil that that exists on the Canadian border for some reason.
• 58:12
SPEAKER_06: Um and it's called the Bookhouse Boys, like they're it's been around for generations.
• 58:17
SPEAKER_06: Pretty much all of our male lead characters, maybe not all of them, but uh a good portion of them, including the the police chief, are part of this secret organization called the Bookhouse Boys, and they have like that, you know, that this is they they they touch their eye like the side of their eye uh as like a a sign of like this means something, or like, you know, what's up, dude?
• 58:38
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
• 58:39
  SPEAKER_06: It's a secret like handshake basically.
• 58:42
SPEAKER_06: And I thought that that was cool.
• 58:43
SPEAKER_06: And then they also kind of touch on so what's interesting is that nobody questions the log lady and her logic, the whole town just seems to just be this is her, her log has seen things, um, something about the birds, you know, like the the owls or whatever that might become important later on in the show, who knows?
• 59:06
SPEAKER_06: But um it's I love the scene where they finally like get to speak with the log lady because there's something so bizarre and almost um reverential about that scene where we are privy to the unfolding of a mystery from such a unique perspective.
• 59:29
  SPEAKER_06: Again, it's it's a very David Lynch idea.
• 59:33
SPEAKER_06: Um, but I I really I I just I love that scene because nobody questions her.
• 59:38
SPEAKER_06: You know, like you just like that like everyone in the room in reference to Dale Cooper is like, no, no, ask ask it, you know.
• 59:47
SPEAKER_06: This is it's it's time you should ask the log.
• 59:49
SPEAKER_06: And the log has answers.
• 59:52
  SPEAKER_06: It's really cool.
• 59:53
SPEAKER_04: Like one of the only times that Dale Cooper showed trepidation towards not just kind of like blindly accepting the quirky.
• 1:00:00
  SPEAKER_04: Of the town.
• 1:00:01
SPEAKER_04: He was a little bit like, you know, we we need to move on and do more important things.
• 1:00:06
SPEAKER_04: Um, but everybody's like, no, no, no, you don't understand how big of a deal this is.
• 1:00:09
SPEAKER_06: Um, Anthony, what are your thoughts on Log Lady?
• 1:00:12
SPEAKER_06: I know that you mentioned that he or sorry, he uh that she might have been the influence for uh Johnny in Ed Ed and Netty.
• 1:00:25
SPEAKER_06: Like that was your first inclination.
• 1:00:26
SPEAKER_01: Johnny from Ed Ed and Netty with Planks.
• 1:00:28
SPEAKER_04: That was a really good theory, actually.
• 1:00:29
SPEAKER_04: Dakota told me you said that.
• 1:00:30
  SPEAKER_04: I was like, that's good.
• 1:00:31
SPEAKER_06: Because he's a character that talks to a piece of wood.
• 1:00:33
SPEAKER_06: Like, why like that is very clearly uh if it's not like intentional, like it was very like subconsciously driven, you know.
• 1:00:42
SPEAKER_01: I I I do like that, yeah, like even Dale just like goes with that.
• 1:00:48
SPEAKER_01: You know, like he's just like, okay, yeah, she she talks to her log and like even like listens to her when they when they do talk.
• 1:00:56
SPEAKER_01: So he's like, what what what did your log see?
• 1:01:00
SPEAKER_06: Uh Rich, what did you think of Log Lady?
• 1:01:06
SPEAKER_03: Again Okay, it's like little person dancing, log lady, obviously eyepatch.
• 1:01:16
SPEAKER_03: Uh those were like this like I understand that you thought like some of you guys like thought that like her acceptance in the town, like and like how everyone was like okay with it, like is is nice.
• 1:01:29
SPEAKER_03: Um man, like I think that is a level of enabling, all right, that is effed up, okay?
• 1:01:41
  SPEAKER_03: Listen to me.
• 1:01:42
SPEAKER_03: Okay, Imogen is a teacher, all right.
• 1:01:45
SPEAKER_03: If a student started bringing a log to school every day, okay, and nobody questioned why the student was carrying a log, we would be held in contempt of court by a parent or guardian.
• 1:02:02
SPEAKER_03: Like, my son or daughter was carrying a log.
• 1:02:06
SPEAKER_03: Aren't you questioning why this is a thing?
• 1:02:10
  SPEAKER_03: You know, and and I don't like I I don't think it's sweet.
• 1:02:14
  SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's sweet.
• 1:02:15
SPEAKER_01: I think Well, I think I I think nowadays if somebody did that and they were like, oh, the the you know, this person thinks that they're talking to a log, they would let them do it.
• 1:02:25
SPEAKER_04: Think about like the green lady in in New York City.
• 1:02:28
SPEAKER_04: Like everybody just accepts her and loves her.
• 1:02:31
SPEAKER_04: We all love the green lady, you know.
• 1:02:33
SPEAKER_06: Wait, I don't know who the green lady is.
• 1:02:34
SPEAKER_06: What are we talking about?
• 1:02:35
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't know who the green green is.
• 1:02:37
SPEAKER_04: There's like a lady in New York City.
• 1:02:39
SPEAKER_04: I don't know her name, but she wears like all I'm actually wearing lime green.
• 1:02:43
SPEAKER_04: Like she would wear this sweater.
• 1:02:44
SPEAKER_04: She wears like all lime green.
• 1:02:46
SPEAKER_04: I'm pretty sure her hair is green.
• 1:02:48
SPEAKER_04: And they've like done videos of her apartment, and everything in her apartment is lime green.
• 1:02:52
SPEAKER_04: You know how New York City has like weird celebrities that are just like if you're quirky enough to really stand out, you become like a New York City celebrity.
• 1:03:00
SPEAKER_04: Like, remember The Naked Cowboy?
• 1:03:02
  SPEAKER_02: Yes.
• 1:03:02
  SPEAKER_06: Okay, yes.
• 1:03:03
SPEAKER_04: Why can't why can't Twin Peaks have Log Lady?
• 1:03:06
SPEAKER_04: There's also like a spiritual element like I think that Log Lady, yeah.
• 1:03:10
SPEAKER_04: Twin Peaks has its own kind of religion that nobody in the town talks about, but everybody kind of accepts.
• 1:03:17
  SPEAKER_06: Right.
• 1:03:17
SPEAKER_06: There's like a hidden mythology beneath the town or like within the town that um is just like ancient and mysterious, you know?
• 1:03:27
SPEAKER_04: I'm sure kind of like Stonehenge, like when you get there you can feel something weird and you don't really know what it is.
• 1:03:33
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, if you guys ever make it to Stonehenge, it's a it's a really bizarre thing because ostensibly it's just a couple rocks that you know people back in the day stacked and put like stood up.
• 1:03:46
SPEAKER_06: But it feels weird being there.
• 1:03:49
SPEAKER_06: Like there's there's a a a weird energy in that area that I I could not describe and I've never felt any like anywhere else.
• 1:03:58
SPEAKER_06: But anyway, maybe that's what Twin Peaks is basically.
• 1:04:00
SPEAKER_03: I I I one time went to a a playoff game, which is something they haven't done in um 30 years.
• 1:04:08
SPEAKER_03: So that felt very strange.
• 1:04:10
SPEAKER_03: Like it didn't make sense for the Jets uh to to be in a game that was meaningful and that had stakes.
• 1:04:19
SPEAKER_04: Uh so you know the feeling.
• 1:04:20
SPEAKER_03: You know the feeling, yeah.
• 1:04:21
SPEAKER_03: You went to Stonehenge, basically.
• 1:04:23
SPEAKER_03: I think Johnny probably knows the feeling too.
• 1:04:24
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
• 1:04:25
  SPEAKER_03: Johnny knows the feeling.
• 1:04:26
  SPEAKER_03: Very surreal, you know.
• 1:04:27
SPEAKER_06: Uh not Johnny uh with with plank uh from edit and eddy Johnny uh Imogen's brother.
• 1:04:34
SPEAKER_06: Does he have a plank?
• 1:04:35
SPEAKER_04: Not that I know of.
• 1:04:36
SPEAKER_04: You think he knows he would hide it from my family.
• 1:04:39
SPEAKER_04: We wouldn't enable that, actually.
• 1:04:41
  SPEAKER_01: No.
• 1:04:42
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 1:04:42
SPEAKER_01: I think we should Dakota, your your your family definitely wouldn't.
• 1:04:46
  SPEAKER_01: Especially my dad.
• 1:04:47
  SPEAKER_01: Your dad.
• 1:04:48
  SPEAKER_01: They enabled nothing.
• 1:04:49
SPEAKER_04: You do like one thing off.
• 1:04:51
SPEAKER_06: I would get beat with that plank.
• 1:04:53
SPEAKER_01: Um I would just exist, and your dad would roast me.
• 1:04:57
  SPEAKER_04: He's just a savage, he's just a monster.
• 1:05:00
SPEAKER_06: Um so now we come to uh James's huge forehead.
• 1:05:06
SPEAKER_04: Oh, sorry, I misread how this was going.
• 1:05:09
  SPEAKER_06: You misread.
• 1:05:10
SPEAKER_06: We haven't talked about James Hurley at all.
• 1:05:11
SPEAKER_06: I don't think there's really that much to say um about that subplot.
• 1:05:15
SPEAKER_06: Donna, James, um they talked about Bobby or like why he's the guy with the huge forehead.
• 1:05:22
SPEAKER_04: He's he's the They like always show him and he's like this I love He's the James Dean of the show, yeah.
• 1:05:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:05:32
  SPEAKER_06: I guess.
• 1:05:32
SPEAKER_04: More like James forehead screen of the show.
• 1:05:35
  SPEAKER_04: Like, my god.
• 1:05:38
SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, all right, so the the Black Lodge, which is like the this the location with the the large red cur red curtains and the black and white flooring?
• 1:05:50
SPEAKER_06: We will see it more later on in the series.
• 1:05:53
SPEAKER_06: Um it's it's not currently clear whether it's a physical location or a mental or spiritual or uh any whatever it is.
• 1:06:04
SPEAKER_06: We don't really know at this stage in the series.
• 1:06:08
SPEAKER_06: But what what were our thoughts when Dale Cooper showed up super wrinkly, and then uh that that little fella started dancing backwards into a chair um and saying stuff like Hello Dale Cooper It's a good impression.
• 1:06:32
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 1:06:33
SPEAKER_03: You guys know that I do two things at once all the time, right?
• 1:06:36
SPEAKER_03: Like I'm constantly like playing video games and watching things.
• 1:06:41
SPEAKER_03: And generally speaking, it works out fine, right?
• 1:06:45
SPEAKER_03: That I watched that scene, I had to rewind four times, right?
• 1:06:50
SPEAKER_03: Like I and then I gave then I literally gave up.
• 1:06:55
SPEAKER_03: Like I okay, the first time goes by and I'm like, what just what just happened?
• 1:07:02
  SPEAKER_03: Who are these people?
• 1:07:03
SPEAKER_03: So I go back, right?
• 1:07:05
SPEAKER_03: I play it again, still don't understand what's happening.
• 1:07:08
  SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I missed it, I missed it.
• 1:07:09
SPEAKER_03: So now I put my controller down, I put it back, I'm I'm on pause three times through.
• 1:07:15
  SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I don't know what happened.
• 1:07:17
SPEAKER_03: I played it a fourth time, and I just said, you know what?
• 1:07:20
SPEAKER_03: F this, I'm playing the next episode.
• 1:07:22
SPEAKER_03: And then that's when Coop's like, I had this dream, and I'm like, oh, because I'm like, Laura's alive?
• 1:07:28
  SPEAKER_03: Who's this short man?
• 1:07:29
SPEAKER_03: Is he some sort of like extra devious guy, like involved in the Black Lounge?
• 1:07:34
SPEAKER_03: Like, uh, is he the real owner?
• 1:07:36
  SPEAKER_03: Like, I I I had so many questions.
• 1:07:40
SPEAKER_01: No, I knew it was a dream because it like he he had gone to sleep, and I was like, bro, this is just so out of out of pocket.
• 1:07:47
SPEAKER_01: It has to be a dream.
• 1:07:48
SPEAKER_01: This is stuff that only happens in a dream.
• 1:07:51
SPEAKER_01: And you know, yeah, sure enough, it it was a a dream, but like, you know, for a dream sequence, like, what was your boy on?
• 1:07:59
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 1:07:59
SPEAKER_06: Like, I mean, he I loved your commentary when when you when you started watching that scene.
• 1:08:05
SPEAKER_06: Like, that wasn't dream logic, that was like high in the sky logic.
• 1:08:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I'm telling you, like, he was smoking some when he did that scene because that he was he was gone.
• 1:08:18
SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, that like you you have to like go somewhere different to be able to like to be able to come up with this scene.
• 1:08:28
  SPEAKER_01: Come on, right, Rich.
• 1:08:30
SPEAKER_01: You have to be somewhere, your mind has to be somewhere else to be coming up with this scene.
• 1:08:35
SPEAKER_01: You rewinded it four times.
• 1:08:38
SPEAKER_01: So I just went through it once.
• 1:08:39
  SPEAKER_01: I'm just like, uh, I no, I no, I rewinded it.
• 1:08:42
SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna put it this way.
• 1:08:43
SPEAKER_03: I went to college seven I went to college for seven years.
• 1:08:46
SPEAKER_03: Infer what you will from that, and still I my brain was not open enough to understand that scene until it was explained to me the next the next episode.
• 1:08:56
SPEAKER_03: So, like honestly, like this series has stretched my brain in a way that just beat me into submission.
• 1:09:08
  SPEAKER_03: I j I just I can't that's why I'm asking you guys questions.
• 1:09:12
  SPEAKER_03: I watched it twice.
• 1:09:14
  SPEAKER_03: I s there are things I still can't grasp.
• 1:09:17
SPEAKER_03: I don't understand all the relationships, but I want to see it to the end.
• 1:09:22
  SPEAKER_02: That's the spirit.
• 1:09:24
  SPEAKER_03: That's the spirit.
• 1:09:25
SPEAKER_03: I want to see what happens to Riley because you know how much I care about Riley.
• 1:09:31
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 1:09:32
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, sorry, Ripley.
• 1:09:33
  SPEAKER_03: Sorry, wrong series.
• 1:09:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was gonna be like, Sigourney is not even in this.
• 1:09:38
SPEAKER_03: I sorry guys, it's it keeps happening.
• 1:09:41
SPEAKER_04: So I wanted to add one thing really quick.
• 1:09:43
SPEAKER_04: Um I pulled up uh like a very famous like David Lynch quote where he basically said that he views cinema like filming general as a language.
• 1:09:52
SPEAKER_04: He started off as a painter and then he switched to film when he realized that he could like really capture feelings and like abstract concepts in film.
• 1:10:03
SPEAKER_04: And he basically says that like film is a place where you can explain things without the use of words, like you can use the visuals, the movement, the colors, the sounds, like obviously the actors and dialogue, but like dialogue's very limited in his approach to just convey feelings and almost to create a dream.
• 1:10:24
SPEAKER_04: Like he he wants people to feel like they are dreaming when they watch his work.
• 1:10:28
SPEAKER_04: And you know, when you wake up from a dream and you have this like you you take away this feeling of this concept, like you know it's either a good dream or a bad dream, and you have like a general idea of like how it made you feel, but you don't remember how you got to certain places or how certain concepts connected.
• 1:10:44
  SPEAKER_04: It's like that.
• 1:10:45
SPEAKER_04: Like that's the idea that he's going for, where you're like in this in this place that's like a dream, and not everything has to make sense and not everything has to be explained, but by the end you get a general grasp of what happened.
• 1:10:58
SPEAKER_04: When Dakota and I started watching the show, it was um there's an episode of Parks and Wreck where one of the characters explains like it's just like Twin Peaks, everything really comes together in the end, like perfectly, you know?
• 1:11:09
SPEAKER_04: And to be honest, that's the that was a joke because that's so not how this show works.
• 1:11:13
SPEAKER_04: Like, not everything's gonna fold together super neatly and come together.
• 1:11:17
SPEAKER_04: I remember when Dakota and I first watched the show, I was like really fixated on the fish in the percolator.
• 1:11:23
SPEAKER_04: I thought that was a big key.
• 1:11:24
SPEAKER_04: I thought that was gonna really like become a moment.
• 1:11:27
SPEAKER_04: And it was literally just that David Lynch one time got served coffee that had a little bit like of soap in it from his friend.
• 1:11:34
SPEAKER_04: Like that, like there was soap in the in the percolator still, and so he had like soapy coffee and he just changed it to a fish.
• 1:11:40
SPEAKER_04: That's the only reason why that scene's in there.
• 1:11:41
SPEAKER_04: It was just like he liked that moment in his life and he decided I'm gonna put that in there.
• 1:11:45
SPEAKER_01: And it's like how like how, like how a fish.
• 1:11:49
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:11:50
SPEAKER_04: He like later, it like later that character, uh, what's his name?
• 1:11:54
  SPEAKER_04: Pete?
• 1:11:54
  SPEAKER_06: Pete Martel, yeah.
• 1:11:55
SPEAKER_04: Pete goes up to his wife and is like, funniest thing, I found a fish in the percolator, and he was kind of accusing her of doing it, and she doesn't really say anything.
• 1:12:03
SPEAKER_04: So like they kind of imply that she did it to be spiteful.
• 1:12:07
SPEAKER_06: There's still so much to discuss.
• 1:12:09
SPEAKER_06: Uh One Eyed Jacks, the the brothel on the other side of uh like on on the Canada border.
• 1:12:17
SPEAKER_06: We have a really interesting and ultimately very dark um turn of events uh thematically, where we learn that Laura Palmer uh wasn't a very good person, you know, or at least the way some people knew her wasn't very good.
• 1:12:35
  SPEAKER_03: Whoa, I don't understand.
• 1:12:36
SPEAKER_03: So you're telling me that just because you're a sex worker, you're doing meals on wheels, you're not a good person.
• 1:12:42
  SPEAKER_04: I didn't say that.
• 1:12:44
SPEAKER_04: But she also she brought out the darkness, like her goal was to bring out the darkness in others.
• 1:12:49
SPEAKER_06: Like she she made Bobby a uh drug dealer so that she can get drugs and everything.
• 1:12:54
  SPEAKER_06: She wasn't she wasn't great.
• 1:12:56
SPEAKER_01: Oh she even complained about like the the sweetness and um James.
• 1:13:02
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I feel bad for James in that scene because like he clearly loved her.
• 1:13:06
SPEAKER_03: You know what I feel who I feel bad for?
• 1:13:08
SPEAKER_03: 118 minutes into this episode, and poor Jacques with his accurate Canadian, like like everyman, because that's the Canadian everyman like accent.
• 1:13:22
SPEAKER_03: Like he's like, uh it was I can't even do it.
• 1:13:24
SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna do that.
• 1:13:27
SPEAKER_03: Like he had the Canadian everyman accent.
• 1:13:31
SPEAKER_03: Like that, you know, like I'm not like super educated, and I just loved it.
• 1:13:34
SPEAKER_03: And also, like, who's partying with him?
• 1:13:36
SPEAKER_03: Like he's does he have that much money?
• 1:13:38
  SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't understand.
• 1:13:39
  SPEAKER_04: He has drugs.
• 1:13:40
SPEAKER_06: He has he has good times and good vibes, clearly.
• 1:13:43
SPEAKER_04: And he has he has like a like a like a cabin.
• 1:13:45
SPEAKER_04: He has like a cabin extra.
• 1:13:47
SPEAKER_06: And a parrot that likes to do things at the wrong moment.
• 1:13:52
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he's that's it's a brutal scene.
• 1:13:56
  SPEAKER_05: Laura! Laura!
• 1:14:00
  SPEAKER_06: Oh man.
• 1:14:01
SPEAKER_06: Uh, the show is extremely dark.
• 1:14:03
SPEAKER_06: Um, and I it is absolutely probably it is it is the darkest thing that like we've ever talked about here on the podcast.
• 1:14:12
SPEAKER_06: And um, I think it's worth talking about just because of its cultural impact, uh, Twin Peaks in general, but also um it doesn't glorify anything that's super dark, which I appreciate.
• 1:14:27
SPEAKER_06: It's not like this is cool, this is fun, it's good to be bad, or anything like that.
• 1:14:33
SPEAKER_06: Um, they don't really glorify any of like the cheating or anything, it's just it happens in this show, um, and that's very human.
• 1:14:41
SPEAKER_06: But but yeah, the show does it does get darker, so I want to warn you guys.
• 1:14:46
SPEAKER_06: But it and it almost uh David Lynch likes the idea of like good and evil and like what that means um in this town, you know, and we we start to see more about like how that comes out in people, and um, so it it will be interesting to to find out what happens next.
• 1:15:06
SPEAKER_01: Do the do the bookhouse boys um you know really tap into the reason why they're together in the second season?
• 1:15:15
SPEAKER_01: Because they said that there's like some sort of like evil in the woods.
• 1:15:19
SPEAKER_06: You will learn more about this evil, yes.
• 1:15:21
SPEAKER_06: Um and you've got a mythology in the town.
• 1:15:24
SPEAKER_06: You've you've met a couple of the characters that um exist in this alternate plane already.
• 1:15:31
SPEAKER_03: So so since like you guys know maybe Anthony has an answer to this, I don't know.
• 1:15:35
SPEAKER_03: Uh so like if you got uh a steak at the diner, uh like how would you want that steak served?
• 1:15:43
SPEAKER_03: Like when you cut into that steak, Anthony, what would you want to see from from your first cut of that steak?
• 1:15:52
  SPEAKER_04: What is happening?
• 1:15:56
SPEAKER_01: You know you know, when we cut into to steaks, you know, we don't want it to be a hockey puck, you know?
• 1:16:04
SPEAKER_01: We don't want to cut into it and it's dry or brittle.
• 1:16:10
SPEAKER_01: We want it to be juicy.
• 1:16:14
SPEAKER_01: You know, sizzling, you know, I I I can I my mind always goes back to the fajitas at Chili's, you know, that kind of sizzling, you know, just fresh.
• 1:16:26
SPEAKER_06: But juicy, you know, it was still juicy.
• 1:16:29
SPEAKER_01: You know, so so you know, with that in mind about the steak Dakota, you know, doesn't that doesn't that make you think of something, you know, think juicy steaks, five stars, kind of rhymes, but not really.
• 1:16:44
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
• 1:16:44
SPEAKER_06: So uh what it what it reminds me of personally is that scene where we're looking out at the table full of donuts in Twin Peaks, and then there's just like red jelly splattered all over it.
• 1:16:55
SPEAKER_06: Juicy, um extremely juicy, just like you guys and your reviews of our podcast.
• 1:17:01
  SPEAKER_06: We need a five-star juicy review.
• 1:17:04
SPEAKER_06: Um, we really uh we we we really gotta uh hit that bird on the head.
• 1:17:09
SPEAKER_06: Um and uh we need to get more reviews out there, whatever your podcast uh listening application is.
• 1:17:16
SPEAKER_06: Uh please be sure to give us a five-star review here.
• 1:17:18
SPEAKER_06: Um and make sure it's juicy so that other people can check out the podcast as well.
• 1:17:23
SPEAKER_06: The more five-star reviews we get, the better our odds are at uh the game that is podcast SEO.
• 1:17:30
SPEAKER_03: And uh yeah, so and thank you guys also to Juicy Food, our the sponsor of this podcast.
• 1:17:38
  SPEAKER_06: We are not sponsored.
• 1:17:39
  SPEAKER_06: Legally, we're not sponsored.
• 1:17:42
SPEAKER_04: Can I just say, like one time I was downstairs and Dakota was recording the podcast upstairs, and I just kept hearing the word juicy, and I was like, what is going on up there?
• 1:17:51
SPEAKER_04: What are they talking about?
• 1:17:54
SPEAKER_01: And it and it's been it's been a recurring thing.
• 1:17:58
SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, we've used like you know the juiciness from the xenomorphs and aliens.
• 1:18:05
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we had like a juice, we basically had like a like a juice meter, like every getting nauseous.
• 1:18:12
SPEAKER_01: We did have a crunchies one time.
• 1:18:14
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:18:14
SPEAKER_06: When we covered uh the tales from like Tales of the Bounty Hunters or something like that.
• 1:18:21
SPEAKER_06: I forget what the name of that Star Wars series was, but there's there's another one.
• 1:18:27
SPEAKER_06: Oh, Tales of the Underworld.
• 1:18:28
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Tales of the Underworld.
• 1:18:29
SPEAKER_06: Um, there's a scene where they they eat like crunchies, which is like candies, I guess.
• 1:18:35
  SPEAKER_06: They call them crunchies.
• 1:18:37
SPEAKER_06: So for a little bit we call we it was crunchy reviews, but now now we're back to juicy.
• 1:18:42
  SPEAKER_02: Nice.
• 1:18:43
  SPEAKER_06: Succulent.
• 1:18:44
SPEAKER_06: Thank you guys for listening to us here for our 147th episode.
• 1:18:49
SPEAKER_06: We're gonna be jumping right back into Twin Peaks uh season two.
• 1:18:54
SPEAKER_06: We're gonna be covering the first nine episodes, which should finish out the Laura Palmer arc.
• 1:19:00
SPEAKER_04: Um I'll have a lot more to say about the complexities of Laura Palmer's character then.
• 1:19:04
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we we can't really get too deep into it with uh just these first eight episodes, but um with nine more, that's a different story.
• 1:19:13
SPEAKER_06: And uh I hope you guys are here for it uh when we cover that next week.
• 1:19:18
  SPEAKER_06: And what else?
• 1:19:20
SPEAKER_06: Oh, and Dale Cooper shot at the end of uh season one, so we're gonna have to figure out what happens.
• 1:19:25
  SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah.
• 1:19:26
SPEAKER_01: Who shot him and what what I mean?
• 1:19:29
SPEAKER_01: Obviously he's alive because there's a season two, so something happened.
• 1:19:33
  SPEAKER_06: Alright, guys.
• 1:19:34
SPEAKER_06: We'll see you next week.
• 1:19:36
  SPEAKER_06: Bye.
• 1:19:37
  SPEAKER_03: Bye.
• 1:19:40
  SPEAKER_06: It is happening again.
