Latest / Podcast - Big 98.7 / Most Hated Christmas Songs
Transcript
- 0:00Soliday season. So I know Christmas songs are polarizing right when it is too
- 0:07early to be playing them. Some people are playing year round because they just
- 0:09love them. But there are the songs, the Christmas songs that people love
- 0:12to hate. Okay, and Dana has been collected, so I have the
- 0:14most hated Christmas songs, Amanda, I'm gonna I'm gonna play number four here.
- 0:19This is like my number one and then some A complete stinker. And
- 0:23I know that's gonna be controversial because it's Paul McCartney, you know, one
- 0:32of the greatest musicians of all time with the Beatles, of course, but
- 0:35it's it's a complete stinker. It doesn't even sound like a Christmas song.
- 0:40That's my problem with it. It doesn't do anything for me. I'm like,
- 0:43okay, it's on. It doesn't make me turn it up, but
- 0:45it's just kind of like, oh bit with Lauren and I, my wife,
- 0:48we were driving around at Christmas shopping or something, and it came on
- 0:50and it was like, what is this even it's not a Christmas song.
- 0:53There's like a melody that belongs to it's like a jingle, you know,
- 0:56and not a jingle bells you're not jingling like a commercial jingle. All right,
- 1:00all right, So number three of the Christmas songs we love to hate
- 1:03the most shoes, Well, the Christmas Shoes. This is a tear jerkers.
- 1:14Really, okay. First of all, any song that contains the line,
- 1:18sir, I want to buy these shoes, it's like that's an uphill
- 1:22battle from there a lyric from a lyrical standpoint. You know you're not you're
- 1:25not a big shoe guy. Well, it's just like a little on the
- 1:26nose, and it's you're right. It's so sad. It's a song about
- 1:30this guy or this kid. His mom is dying and he wants to buy
- 1:34her a pair of shoes to make her look nice for when she meets Jesus,
- 1:37which is so so unbelievably sad. But that's the point, you know,
- 1:42it's it's fake. He just rout this guy. I don't know who
- 1:45sings the Christmas Shoes. I will never forget. I do not remember.
- 1:48I want to say it was a Hallmark movie called Christmas Shoes. I know
- 1:52they made a little movie out of it, and this song was on and
- 1:56it I mean, this is gonna be one if I'm in the right moment,
- 1:59I'm gonna start crying talking to you about it. It's hilarious because I
- 2:02mean, right, it's the lyrics of it. It's just and there's a
- 2:06lot of country music songs that do this' They just sit down and they go,
- 2:08all right, what's the saddest thing we can think of it? Like,
- 2:12if this was a real story, I'd be like, Okay, well
- 2:14that's how do you know it's not. Did you do your research on the
- 2:16Christmas shoes? Yeah? Actually I have in the last ten seconds. It
- 2:20was performed in the year two thousand by the group New Song, which is
- 2:23a Christian vocal group, and it's did a Mother Die and didn't get the
- 2:30right shoes? It says that the mother is terminally ill, her son wants
- 2:32her to look pretty when she meets Jesus or in parentheses dies. The jaded
- 2:38singer is moved to purchase the shoes, and the true meaning of Christmas is
- 2:42restored. See a jaded singer? What's so jaded about him? I don't
- 2:46know anyway, it's too sad. Number two of the most hated Christmas songs.
- 2:53It's controversial, to say the least. What is it you'll hear it's
- 3:00cool. I love it. But did you ever get in on the people
- 3:05tried to cancel this song because yeah, you slip something in or drink?
- 3:07Is that rights full on Cosby's are? Yeah? I still like it.
- 3:15It's a classic. It's one of those I get cancel. Culture came along
- 3:19and there's certain things I'm not assaultingmoting people slipping things into drinks, but it's
- 3:25like, this is still just a classic song. Yeah, it's just it's
- 3:28art. I like some movies that bad stuff happens in. You're not wrong,
- 3:31by the way. We did post this on Facebook for the what what's
- 3:34the worst Christmas song? And uh, Heather Kirsten, there's quite a few
- 3:38people on here talking about Christmas shoes. They're they're not really not bands of
- 3:44it, buy shoes. Genie chiming in, Well, first get to number
- 3:53one, because maybe this is it. I don't know what of course it
- 3:54is. I mean, everyone hates us except for my wife. This is
- 3:57a favorite Christmas song. It'd be bad if it was a minute, but
- 4:00unfortunately it's six minutes long. Oh, this is the one aff of love?
- 4:04Actually, Oh it is? What is that a show? You have
- 4:10yet? To watch this with your wife love. Actually, no, I'm
- 4:13pretty sure this is it. Uh No, Genie Chiming insaying I want to
- 4:16Hippopotamus for Christmas. That'spid Christmas. Yeah, wham last Christmas. Good?
- 4:26Of course it is, but it's I don't know if it's the worst song
- 4:29Tracy coming in hot here on our Facebook page. It's atrocious and it's a
- 4:33gift of Mariah Carey for her Christmas song. That's just one of those things
- 4:38that's just overplayed. I understand when people want to hate things because they just
- 4:42are overexposed to it. But it's a great song. It's an original Christmas
- 4:45song, which is hard to do, you know what I mean. You
- 4:46have people out here writing about Christmas shoes. That one got bumped for me
- 4:49because that used to be my number one favorite Christmas song. But now this
- 4:54insane. Oh yeah, I mean this is so soulful. I mean when
- 5:00you can start clapping and you're sweating after a Christmas And this is an original
- 5:05too, I believe right. I don't quote me on it, but I'm
- 5:09pretty sure I mean else has done it. Yeah, Swedish producer to Studio
- 5:14wrote it, which is cool. My favorite Christmas song. I know you
- 5:15were dying to know, Amanda. Yeah, I was going back and forth
- 5:17on this one, but I think I got to settle on It's. Oh
- 5:24no, you just don't like anything sappy. Gosh yesterday, it's my favorite.
- 5:30Oh sorry, sorry, I apologize. I was still on the worst.
- 5:33Silent Night is it's hopeful. I wouldn't say sappy, you know what
- 5:36I mean? I know it's good. It got picturing yesterday at my kid's
- 5:40Christmas program when they did Silent Night. Yes, she was doing it in
- 5:43sign language and stuff. Yeah, started crying. I know how many other
- 5:46songs did you cry during? Well, well there was one other one.
- 5:49They didn't do, Christmas Shoes did they like in the morning? Big Nay
- 5:55eight point seven, Taylor Swift, a little Betty Crocker. According to a
- 5:58former NFL Playererneyekzar, he was actually over at Travis Kelsey's house for a little
- 6:01pregame meal. Bernie Kozar. Isn't that that guy that stole a bunch of
- 6:05money from people? Bernie mac He's the entertainer who died. But yeah,
- 6:11get cast a lot of Bernie's out there. Yeah, Bernie, not to
- 6:15be confused. This Bernie was hanging with Taylor and Travis and Taylor, I
- 6:21guess Rodden, I'm just trying to think of other Bernie. I know you
- 6:28are. Bernie Sanders obviously got it go ahead though Taylor was so nice.
- 6:32She walked in bringing Travis homemade cinnamon rolls. So why did I just without
- 6:39knowing that she bakes? I just you just assume she's a good baker or
- 6:43just enjoys it. Either that or she just bought him and brought him over.
- 6:46I don't know if they were homemade or not. Oh yeah, it's
- 6:48I think you said. You said she made him? So which is it?
- 6:56Maybe spend less time on the forecast, more time searching your stories.
- 7:01I mean, oh man, it could be yeah. Oh, I mean
- 7:05somebody made him at home, not hurt. The guy at the Hornbocker's Bakery
- 7:13made him. I apologize. It's been a rough one today and got a
- 7:19good case of the giggles. Who George Clooney, reflecting on his ears,
- 7:25being a longtime friend of Matthew Perry and he was really close with them.
- 7:29I guess they were both on this same like lot. That's where he was
- 7:31with er and then friends. It was all being filmed in the same area,
- 7:34so they became friends. They used to play paddle tennis together. Is
- 7:40that like a sport only rich people are aware of paddle tennis? Was it
- 7:44pickleball before? It's similar to pickleball, but it's different. Yeah, I
- 7:48am not sure. I've never played a round of thought the match of paddle
- 7:51tennis. I thought they were just calling a fancy word for ping pong.
- 7:56I don't know either way, he says. At one point he had confided
- 8:00in him and said, I just want to be on a sitcom, man,
- 8:03I just want to be on a regular sitcom and I'd be the happiest
- 8:05man on earth. And he still just wasn't happy. Just so sad,
- 8:09that is. It's always sad to hear that people you think are the happiest
- 8:13and who knew what they were going through? Of course, very sad.
- 8:16On a lighter note, I think we got every Bernie that's famous. I
- 8:20literally google Bernie like Boom boom boom, We got Sanders made off Cozar mac
- 8:24good. The only one left is Bernie's Wines and liquors. Every dias.
- 8:37She wants to normalize married couples sleeping in separate bedrooms or different spaces. Didn't
- 8:43Is it Gwyneth Pearl Trow that lives away from her man. I think so.
- 8:46I think they have a whole separate residences. He also kind of feels
- 8:48like, well, yeah, I wouldn't want to live with going either.
- 8:52I don't know, come on, he just doesn't feel like a friendly person
- 8:54like spending time with her. I don't think i'd enjoy it. But the
- 8:56one thing, I know what you're gonna say. Just I get what you're
- 9:01saying. But the one thing that would be positive would be the bed part.
- 9:07Right, No, So this is what I gotta live with her all
- 9:09day and then when it comes down to go to bed, I gotta sleep
- 9:13in a separate rooms. Just go and just go away. She goes on
- 9:16to say that she would love in a perfect world even though her and Benji
- 9:18don't do this, she would have a house, he would have a house,
- 9:22and then they'd have a family house, and then they would just convene
- 9:24when they wanted to have relations, Like I get it, especially if somebody
- 9:28snores. A lot of people are they call it being sleep divorced. You
- 9:31know, you sleep in separate rooms, and then you got people who snore.
- 9:35I can't imagine that. No, there's a lot of factors to it.
- 9:39I just I like to be in the same room. Right, Well,
- 9:41you got because you and your bad You have you, your husband,
- 9:45two kids, a dog. Am I missing anyone house? Yeah? My
- 9:48wife always said when I'm not home, she says she doesn't sleep very well.
- 9:52Well, yeah, and I am the same way. I'd like to
- 9:54have somebody my husband next to me. Yeah, there's any warm b But
- 10:00I feel like this because I do struggle to sleep so much. Part of
- 10:03me thinks that this might help. Because if I can't sleep and I'm like
- 10:07kind of tossing and turning, it kind of gives me anxiety knowing that I'm
- 10:09probably my wife. No, I I totally understand that. And to each
- 10:15their own. I don't know if it is the way our beds are so
- 10:16this sounds kind of crazy, but the way our bed is set up,
- 10:20we each have a twin sized bed. Oh yeah, you know what I
- 10:22mean. So it's like if he moves, unless he's grabbing the covers,
- 10:26I don't feel it or vice versa. You know what I mean. So
- 10:30I feel like that kind of helps where it's not like a shared mattress.
- 10:33You're maneuvering a little bit. You gotta get one of those ones where I
- 10:35and the commercials where you can jump up and down on it with a glass
- 10:37of wine and it doesn't spill. That's that's the one. That's the one
- 10:41that's way. Of course. The wine sold me. Yeah, it's a
- 10:46it's a repedic because you're like, hey, I drink wine in bed.
- 10:48This will be perfect. Take in a minute in the morning. I want
- 10:54to tell you about these single worst bank robber ever. I mean this guy.
- 10:58This guy sucks. Okay, I mean they all do, don't They
- 11:03well, generally, but if you're gonna do it, and this goes for
- 11:07anything, if you're gonna do it, at least put some effort in.
- 11:09Guy's name is Richard Hampton. Now, his first mistake before he robbed this
- 11:15bank is that he admitted to smoking some crack. Oh geez, right out
- 11:20of the gate. You're just not in the correct state of mind right for
- 11:22a bank robbery. So he walks into a bank unmasked, not wearing any
- 11:28sort of you know, we all know what a bank robber looks like,
- 11:31right exactly, I mean, not concealing his identity whatsoever. He walks in
- 11:35up to the teller and hands him a note. Now, what do you
- 11:39think the note might say, hand me some money, give me some money,
- 11:43right, I mean that would be uh toss it on over. I
- 11:46mean, was there a dollar figure anything? Or was it just like give
- 11:48me all the money. And I'm thinking it might have something to do with
- 11:50the crack. But he said, on the note it says give me the
- 11:54gun. No, oh no, not I have a gun. No not
- 12:00give me the money. Oh boy, give me the gun. So the
- 12:07teller doesn't have a gun, So what do you do? I mean,
- 12:13I think they would be because they have something under there, don't they it
- 12:16nowadays? Or is it just the button that says like I need a gun.
- 12:20I don't think it's like the in TV shows where you know the gas
- 12:24station attendants got a big shotgun underneath the k I don't know if it's like
- 12:28that. So the teller's like, well, I don't have a gun,
- 12:31but I do have money. I'll give that a try anyway. So he
- 12:33handed Hampton a big stack of money, seven and twenty three dollars in US
- 12:39cash. Now here's what they do have, Amanda, Thank you for clarifying
- 12:41it was US cash, just dollars, not a handful of pay sos in
- 12:46the money. Apparently they have like a dummy roll of money that has a
- 12:50GPS tracker hidden inside of it. Yeah, okay, that's awesome, right,
- 12:54So the teller hands over not a big stack of money, not a
- 12:58gun, but a stack of cats with the tracking device. So then this
- 13:03guy gets in the getaway car. By the way, he paid somebody fifty
- 13:05dollars to be the getaway. Oh. Man gets in the car. In
- 13:09the car peels away without actually driving recklessly at all. It followed all the
- 13:13traffic lights signs. Yeah, you gotta play it cool. Well, they
- 13:18were arrested after of course tracking him via the tracking device. He's now facing
- 13:22charges. Now. Funny thing about this guy is just a short six years
- 13:28ago he robbed the same bank oh and served one hundred months in prison.
- 13:31Now, I would also take you back to two thousand and five when for
- 13:35a third time, he robbed the exact same bank location. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:41I gotta stay off the crack. You just got us stay off the
- 13:45crack and rob banks. You just got just be a good wholesome person,
- 13:50and it rarely works. Now I do share the story when we talk about
- 13:54bank robberies, but in I believe in when I was in high school,
- 13:56the bank in Dilworth got robbed, and I don't think they ever got the
- 14:00guy, No way, I don't think so. Really yeah, so,
- 14:03but that's rare. Don't rob bangs asterisks. I'm pretty sure they caught the
- 14:07guy trending. Now here's what you need to know. Well, it's been
- 14:13a wild year and I think a lot of people, you know, simply
- 14:16to remember exactly what happened in our community on July fourteenth, the officers who
- 14:22were shot and I'm so thankful that the Fargo PD released this hour long interview
- 14:26with Officer Hawes and his wife just to kind of reflect on what did happen
- 14:30in our community. And we can never forget listen to him, you know.
- 14:31It's just it's one of those things that being calm and the chaos is
- 14:35kind of in the job description where we have to like we deal with it
- 14:39all the time, We're comfortable in it. It's what we know. I
- 14:41couldn't freak out. If I was going to freak out, things would get
- 14:45worse. So I had to be calm for everyone. Else, I had
- 14:46to be calm to make sure that they could do their jobs, and they
- 14:50did. And I am forever thankful that I had the people around me that
- 14:54I did that day admirable. It doesn't even feel like enough to describe what
- 14:58they did that day as glad he's doing all right, though it looks like
- 15:01he's you know, recovered and doing better and at ninety years old. Most
- 15:07people, when they're telling you, like, I'm ninety and that got this
- 15:09far because of whiskey wine, or you know, i'm working out, I'm
- 15:13having a good time, But not Mini Pain. That's me. Now,
- 15:18I don't know Mini Pain. Who's this? She's from Texas, a lovely
- 15:22ninety year old woman who just graduated with a master's degree. I mean,
- 15:26most people, you're like, the last thing I want to do is go
- 15:28back to school. But when she was seventy six, she started her education.
- 15:33That's crazy. You know, they say you got to keep the mar
- 15:35mine, the march, shipe, the mind sharp. That's why a lot
- 15:39of ladies do cross red puzzles, yes, or any of those things as
- 15:43you're getting older or retiring. But listen to this. Not only did she
- 15:46get her undergraduate degree, For the past sixteen years, she's been a writer
- 15:48and editor for the Houston Style magazine. Dying to know what she's writing about.
- 15:54But now she's got her master's, she says, I quote, I
- 15:56plan to drop over at the computer. I would love to know what kind
- 15:58of life style stuff she's writing about. I think that's so cool. I'm
- 16:02surprised she's riding on a computer. Figured it would be incursive with a pen
- 16:06on a napkin. And then maybe somebody else is doing some of that.
- 16:10Maybe either way, any pain, that's great, so true and home alone.
- 16:15Fans think that Kevin mc Kevin McAllister deserves maybe another shot at revenge against
- 16:22the uh Wet Bandits. I think that this would be good. The sticky
- 16:26Bandits. They're not what the Wet bandits now, they're the sticky Bandits.
- 16:30Oh that's right, because I'm alone. Two, if we do a sequel,
- 16:33they might have a new name, which I'm afraid to find would you
- 16:34have them be? What would be if they were to revamp the Gez.
- 16:38First they were wet, then they were sticky. I'm afraid to find out.
- 16:45That's good. Every house they leave a big turd in there, just
- 16:48a big old Stinky or the Stanky class it up a little. But do
- 16:53you think Kevin McAllister much like they did with the Christmas Story. Because this
- 16:57is a viral parody, You're going to see it. Some people going to
- 17:00share it and think it's real, it's not. When they brought Ralphie back
- 17:03last year as the Dad, it wasn't the best, but it was still
- 17:07good. It got your attention. You watched it. Yeah, exactly.
- 17:10It doesn't need to be stellar. I'd be good if they brought back the
- 17:14Stinky bandits, you know, which is what Daniel Stern great actor. And
- 17:18then of course Joe Peschi, who I think is still alive. Right,
- 17:22he's gotta be very old at this point. Go ahead and look up Joe
- 17:23Pasche for me while I play you this viral Home Alone three trailer. That's
- 17:29fake. If it's changed, you filthy animal. This holiday season, it's
- 17:34time to rediscover a classic. Kevin McAllister is bad, except this family is
- 17:44a little weird around Christmas. The day you left, I had to defend
- 17:48her. I don't want to cut you off, but Joe Peschi's eighty.
- 17:52It's gonna be like the Nursing Home Band bands, so like they're gonna be
- 17:56I think it would be great if they turned it into like sort of a
- 17:57like a rated R kind of John Wick redemption story where Kevin McAllister I think
- 18:03he should kill him because at this point, gosh, but Joe Pesse was
- 18:07in Goodfellas, like talk about a guy who can get at you. Yeah,
- 18:11but that's an actor. That's not the character. I need to explain
- 18:14how movies work. But don't you think he kind of plays that like here's
- 18:17here's a tough guy. After all this conversation, how about we just leave
- 18:19it alone, but just watch Home alone one and two. Oh, I've
- 18:22already watched it. I'm a couple then, already all right? Today gonna
- 18:26be sunny Hia thirty seven. Everybody's kind of wondering, are we gonna have
- 18:29a wintery kind of mix over what you mean? We're wondering there would be
- 18:36a white Christmas. Everyone's wondering if we're gonna get our usual wintery mix.
- 18:41I'm dreaming of a wintry mix, like in a minute in the morning on
- 18:52Big Nuddy eight point seven. I have the list of the most misspelled words
- 18:55of twenty twenty three. Okay, according to Google data. Okay, I

- 19:15you ever win spell in Mississippi? You know what I mean? You ever
- 19:18win a spelling bee? You? I don't want to talk about it.

- 19:49A t io N congratulations. That is incorrect? Is I never forget you
- 19:55in there? You added like just a ridiculous s in the middle of the
- 19:59word congrats, Oh congrats you later, because I'm used to writing congrats.
- 20:03Yeah, well most people misspelled it with a D. You know what I
- 20:07mean. And you know why, because like, yeah, you would see
- 20:08all those balloons when it comes graduation season and they all say congrat elations.
- 20:14All right, give this one a whack. Most spelled words Misspelled words a
