- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that Uh, Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 2: The rex was not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there.
- 0:10Speaker 2: You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go to uh eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 3: It was bo.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Wow that prime time. Maybe I had a crush on
- 0:18Speaker 2: Betty Rubbell.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 1: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 2: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 2: the game. You're listening to Stu gottson Company.
- 0:31Speaker 1: It is ste Gootson Company, presented by Fandel and the
- 0:34Speaker 1: Fandel's sportsbook.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Alex today sitting in with us. We appreciate.
- 0:37Speaker 1: He's a host on the Yes Network, also host Heat
- 0:40Speaker 1: Checked Trivia, and he's been described and only by Taylor Alex.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He's been described as Stu Gotts when Stu Gotts cared.
- 0:47Speaker 2: About sports, I am fucking offended by that. I mean,
- 0:50Speaker 2: I gotta be honest with you.
- 0:51Speaker 4: I'll completely take that. I'll sign up for that any
- 0:54Speaker 4: day of the week. And I've heard Taylor say this before,
- 0:57Speaker 4: but it always leads me to more questions. You know,
- 0:59Speaker 4: when did you stop caring about sports? Is it when
- 1:02Speaker 4: you started your sports show.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Uh, that's certainly well.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It certainly coincided with that, because when you host a show,
- 1:09Speaker 1: it kind of kind of blurs you as a sports fan,
- 1:12Speaker 1: right because you're you're just constantly watching stuff. You're not
- 1:15Speaker 1: enjoying it, You're just thinking about the take you're going
- 1:17Speaker 1: to have the next day. But there's a direct correlation
- 1:20Speaker 1: between when I stopped caring about sports and when my
- 1:23Speaker 1: kids were born.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You know, I mean, cared.
- 1:26Speaker 1: About them less. I don't care about them as much.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I don't want to say I don't care about him.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I just don't want to stay up till late fifty
- 1:32Speaker 1: to watch an NCAA championship game that I don't really
- 1:34Speaker 1: fucking care about.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I prioritize.
- 1:36Speaker 4: How about that they need to move the start of
- 1:39Speaker 4: these games up a little bit, and I know they'll
- 1:41Speaker 4: have the West Coast audience who's happy about it. Find
- 1:44Speaker 4: me West Coast fans who as a collective care as
- 1:47Speaker 4: much about.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Their sports as East Coast fans. I know that's East
- 1:50Speaker 2: Coast bias, yes, but you know what, look at the numbers.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I have a feeling.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Numbers.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I have a feeling if you were sitting in rush
- 1:56Speaker 1: hour traffic at five point fifty in the afternoon at LA.
- 1:59Speaker 2: You would have to that being a sports fan. You
- 2:01Speaker 2: know what I'm saying.
- 2:02Speaker 4: One hundred I lived in LA for a couple months.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I loved it out there.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I would wake up at nine thirty in the morning
- 2:09Speaker 4: to go to the bar and watch the Giants at
- 2:11Speaker 4: ten am, and I was the only one in there.
- 2:13Speaker 4: That's all I'm gonna say. If your heart's in it,
- 2:16Speaker 4: you'll make your work right.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Do you fancy yourself a younger Stu Gotts that cares
- 2:20Speaker 1: about sports?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Is that? I mean absolutely?
- 2:22Speaker 4: I'm about to change my Instagram biot today.
- 2:26Speaker 2: What do you get to change it too?
- 2:29Speaker 4: My younger Sue Gotts when he cared about sports except
- 2:32Speaker 4: a Yankees fan of the Giants fan.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yes, so important. Disclaimer, so lucky.
- 2:37Speaker 5: I think it's I think it is a bit unfair
- 2:40Speaker 5: to characterize Stu gottsas not caring about sports. He just
- 2:44Speaker 5: kind of shifted where his priorities are. Like Masters week,
- 2:47Speaker 5: He's always going to get up for this week Master.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yes, yes, what he what?
- 2:51Speaker 3: I was shocked yesterday.
- 2:53Speaker 5: It seemed like he didn't know who Mark Viento's was,
- 2:56Speaker 5: and Mark Vento's has been on his favorite baseball team
- 2:59Speaker 5: for about the past three four seasons.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I had no clue.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Games go to the NLCUS and twenty twenty four without
- 3:06Speaker 4: Mark Fiantos, we don't. Okay, he faced last year, but
- 3:13Speaker 4: when quit a minute playoffs, we're talking about playoffs.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I mean, all I do is get mad because of
- 3:19Speaker 1: the radio show. I get mad at the World Baseball
- 3:22Speaker 1: Classic because Soda.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Was out with a hammy or something like that.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and these guys got to stop playing in the
- 3:27Speaker 1: in the WBC because I'm telling you, they're getting hurt
- 3:29Speaker 1: left and right.
- 3:30Speaker 4: I mean, you know this is a classic Mets fan
- 3:33Speaker 4: talk here, because you're still sour about Daz getting hurt
- 3:37Speaker 4: the WBC. I was down in Miami for both semi
- 3:41Speaker 4: finals games. In the finals, that was some of the
- 3:44Speaker 4: most fun baseball I've ever watched. And they need to
- 3:47Speaker 4: do that every single year, not just have the MLB
- 3:50Speaker 4: players in it.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Let's double down and triple down.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I mean every two years, three years is fine? You
- 3:55Speaker 1: still care about sports, Mikey, go ahead, Alex.
- 3:58Speaker 3: You seem you seem so much happier.
- 3:59Speaker 6: That's why I'm having a trouble picturing you as a
- 4:03Speaker 6: younger Stutts, and then it hit me, you're a Giants
- 4:05Speaker 6: and Yankees fan, Like, there's a closing doors moment in
- 4:08Speaker 6: your life, stew Gots where you could have taken that
- 4:11Speaker 6: path and you could have been so happy in your life.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yes, see super Bowls and worlds.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yes, like, yeah, that's that's the difference.
- 4:19Speaker 2: He's a younger me who chose wisely. Yes he is.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yes, thirty years as the Mets and Jets fans in
- 4:25Speaker 4: dog years is a lot more than that.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It will do to you, man, It will just suck
- 4:29Speaker 1: the fun out of this shit very quickly, especially the Jets. Like,
- 4:32Speaker 1: the Mets gave me a little bit of winning, all right,
- 4:35Speaker 1: they gave me eighty six. I think we had an
- 4:37Speaker 1: NLCS in nineteen ninety with a Subway series against the Yankees.
- 4:42Speaker 1: You just informed me that we made an NLCS with
- 4:45Speaker 1: the Inos, I mean. And so it's the Jets. It
- 4:49Speaker 1: is the fucking Jets. They make me miserable. They do,
- 4:53Speaker 1: even when they control the draft, and they do, they
- 4:56Speaker 1: control the next two I know they're gonna fuck it up.
- 4:58Speaker 2: So who cares?
- 5:00Speaker 4: I mean, do you think that there's any opposing fan
- 5:03Speaker 4: base in the NFL who dislikes the Jets as much
- 5:06Speaker 4: as Jets fans like Patriots fans don't care about the Jets.
- 5:10Speaker 4: The Jets Dolphins fan Bill's fans like, yes, they just
- 5:14Speaker 4: beat up on you, guys.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Jets fans hate the Jets.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yes, the Jets make those other organizations which aren't great,
- 5:20Speaker 1: by the way, but they make them look great.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Now there is a weird thing about Jets fans where
- 5:26Speaker 6: we will sit around and we will motherfuck our team
- 5:29Speaker 6: to no end.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But if you do it, it gets so mad at you.
- 5:35Speaker 3: You don't get to do it.
- 5:36Speaker 2: You haven't earned the right to motherfuck the Jets fan.
- 5:40Speaker 2: We know she's ugly, but she's beautiful to me.
- 5:43Speaker 3: But she's my ugly.
- 5:45Speaker 4: She's my ugly for her personality, like her personality.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Stay away. It's it's all we have. I mean, why
- 5:56Speaker 2: would you?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Why did you get to enjoy the only thing that's
- 5:59Speaker 1: enjoyable to us, which is bashing that team. What did
- 6:03Speaker 1: you make of the of the championship game last night?
- 6:06Speaker 1: I think it was it kind of held form right
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yukon had to muck it up, play the game slowly,
- 6:11Speaker 1: Try to play that game in the sixties both teams
- 6:14Speaker 1: had injuries. Michigan was just too overwhelming and too talented.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I do find this part of it funny. If you
- 6:21Speaker 1: asked a Michigan fan today, Hey, you could spend a
- 6:24Speaker 1: day with last night starting five that won the National Championship,
- 6:29Speaker 1: or you could spend the day with the Fab Five,
- 6:31Speaker 1: a team that never won the National Championship. They were
- 6:34Speaker 1: the runners up two years in a row, back to
- 6:37Speaker 1: back second place. Every Michigan fan would choose the Fab five.
- 6:42Speaker 2: It's unbelievable, totally.
- 6:44Speaker 4: And I watched last night's game with three Michigan fans,
- 6:48Speaker 4: so they were having a great time. They also wanted
- 6:50Speaker 4: me to tell you that they were in the same
- 6:52Speaker 4: suite as you for Dead and Company at MSG when
- 6:54Speaker 4: Maggie Rogers came out.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I remember, yeah it is yeah, so you know, talking
- 7:00Speaker 1: about Yeah, we went.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Down to the floor.
- 7:01Speaker 1: We were hanging out with Bill Walton. I had my
- 7:03Speaker 1: best friend with me, Robert Hazen, he was there. It
- 7:06Speaker 1: was right after I did the way in for the
- 7:08Speaker 1: Moscvodol fight, which was right across the street. Yes, and
- 7:11Speaker 1: so I just mosied across the street from that I
- 7:14Speaker 1: did the way It. I was on stage for Nate
- 7:16Speaker 1: Diaz and Massadal because I'm Stig Gott's and the Rock
- 7:21Speaker 1: was there, the whole deal. Then we went across the street. Yes,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I was in a suite. I don't remember seeing them.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I was fucked up, but I do remember the show.
- 7:29Speaker 1: How about that, Taylor, that's a hell of a day.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a great day.
- 7:33Speaker 6: Yes, Taylor, he can't remember if we have a guest
- 7:36Speaker 6: booked for ten o'clock or eleven o'clock. But you ask
- 7:39Speaker 6: him about one of the thousands of dead shows he's
- 7:42Speaker 6: been to, and he'll give you a play by play
- 7:44Speaker 6: of the set list. Who was there, what the what
- 7:47Speaker 6: the arena smelt like, what kind of not shows he had?
- 7:50Speaker 3: Jesus Christ, dude.
- 7:52Speaker 2: They brought suite.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Oh, no doubt. They brought Matthew Rodgers out for Friend
- 7:57Speaker 1: of the Devil.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Then she went away. They brought her back for the encore,
- 7:59Speaker 2: the wait.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It was a double encore, broken palace as well, broke
- 8:03Speaker 1: down palace as well. It was a hell of a show. Listen,
- 8:06Speaker 1: when you do a day where you participate in a weighing, right,
- 8:10Speaker 1: and Dana White's on stage and the Rocks on stage,
- 8:12Speaker 1: and I introduced myself to the rock and he's like, Stu,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I know who you are. I've been on your show
- 8:17Speaker 1: fifteen times and you have one of those days and
- 8:20Speaker 1: then you top it off with the Dead show.
- 8:21Speaker 2: That's a day that you you never forget.
- 8:24Speaker 4: You know, that's some serious versatility right there. You know
- 8:27Speaker 4: you're You're going from being with the Rocket away and
- 8:30Speaker 4: in Ny Diaz to singing covers of the band with Maggie.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Rodgers on stage. Yes, the Duality of Man.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yes, standing next to Bill Walton, my friend, Yes, I
- 8:42Speaker 1: missed it.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Are you that that's the biggest flex out of anything
- 8:47Speaker 4: you just said there? That that is Walt Bill Walton?
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yes? Are you into the Dead? I am?
- 8:52Speaker 4: Big time time? Yeah, more so through my friends. I
- 8:56Speaker 4: feel like most people get into the Dead through their parents.
- 8:59Speaker 4: My parents more of like Stone's Billy Joel, more classic
- 9:03Speaker 4: rock than jam band. My friends got me into. In
- 9:05Speaker 4: the last couple of years, I've been to a couple
- 9:09Speaker 4: Dead and Co Shows at City Field, and.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I would love to go to the Sphere.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But yes, well Bobby passed away, so that's going to
- 9:15Speaker 1: be problematic.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yes, that's going to be a little tough. Although I
- 9:18Speaker 2: am told that Mayor will.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So the business arrangement is is that Mayor owns fifty
- 9:24Speaker 1: one percent of debt in company. Bobby has entrusted him
- 9:29Speaker 1: to carry this forward, and so we'll see what.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Incarnation they come back in.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But whatever it is, if you're interested, I will invite
- 9:37Speaker 1: you to a show at the Sphere me and you.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Taylor can't come, okay.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Now, whatever happens in the rest of the show, this
- 9:43Speaker 4: is the highlight of the show right here. Thank you
- 9:45Speaker 4: for that. That's a peak invite, right Yes, yes.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Taylor, I'm excluding you because I don't want you to
- 9:50Speaker 1: see me that fucked up. I mean, that's otherwise, you're
- 9:54Speaker 1: more than welcome to gum if you'd like.
- 9:56Speaker 5: I've tried to get into the music a couple of times.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Just don't think I'm in the right headspace.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but the win Sphere Vegas Golf. Yeah, it's a
- 10:06Speaker 1: great time. They really fucked the concert. You don't think.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Let me just got to the sports book. That's where
- 10:11Speaker 1: you want to be. So anyway, what were your thoughts
- 10:13Speaker 1: of the game last night? Michigan wins the National Championship.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yukon was going for three and four years. I'm glad.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Danny Hurley in his suit lost.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Yeah, starting with that last point, if Danny Hurley won
- 10:24Speaker 4: last night, we were about to have some uncomfortable conversations
- 10:27Speaker 4: about Danny Hurley. Yes, we were an all times coach,
- 10:31Speaker 4: and I think he's already in that conversation. But you
- 10:33Speaker 4: won three and four years, Yeah, it would have gotten
- 10:37Speaker 4: uncomfortable very quickly. Yukon played an unbelievable first half, almost
- 10:42Speaker 4: the perfect first half, and then you look up and
- 10:44Speaker 4: they're down by four. So you know, I feel like
- 10:49Speaker 4: it gave Michigan enough time to make the adjustments. You know,
- 10:53Speaker 4: they were playing at Yukon pace the first half of
- 10:55Speaker 4: the game, slow and methodical, and you could tell Michigan
- 10:58Speaker 4: in the second half said all right, we're gonna speed
- 11:00Speaker 4: set up, and at first a lot of bad shots
- 11:03Speaker 4: early in the second half when they tried to adjust.
- 11:07Speaker 4: But just because you want to take shots early in
- 11:09Speaker 4: the shot clock and speed it up doesn't mean you're
- 11:11Speaker 4: getting good looks around.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Halfway through that second half, it felt like they were
- 11:16Speaker 4: just gonna pull away and I'll come back. Also, shout
- 11:19Speaker 4: out to Michigan for hitting what twenty five out of
- 11:21Speaker 4: twenty seven free throws right. That is championship DNA and
- 11:26Speaker 4: without your star player being healthy. Mike, I want your
- 11:29Speaker 4: thoughts on his on Yaxell's press conferences. By the way,
- 11:32Speaker 4: I can't decide how I feel about them. It is
- 11:35Speaker 4: I appreciate the honesty, but it feels a little.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Off to me.
- 11:39Speaker 4: But incredible way, and they were great the whole year.
- 11:44Speaker 4: I'm actually a Duke fan, which I very much have
- 11:48Speaker 4: my tail between my legs right now. I got a
- 11:51Speaker 4: first hand look at how good Michigan is all year.
- 11:55Speaker 4: That Michigan Duke game was one of the most fun
- 11:57Speaker 4: games I watched all year. I think they were deserving
- 12:01Speaker 4: and the fact that Yukon kept it close testament to them,
- 12:04Speaker 4: but Michigan was definitely the better team.
- 12:05Speaker 5: Yeah, if the Axel Lendenberg is one hundred percent, I
- 12:08Speaker 5: think Michigan probably wins that game by fifteen Plulus points
- 12:12Speaker 5: pretty easily. But suone, Michigan became the first team to
- 12:15Speaker 5: start five transfers in the National Championship game. You look
- 12:19Speaker 5: at where their starting five was playing last year. You
- 12:22Speaker 5: win be North Carolina, Illinois, UCLA, and Alabama, and I
- 12:27Speaker 5: think it's a perfect representation for this transfer portal error
- 12:31Speaker 5: where they perfectly constructed their roster to where they can
- 12:37Speaker 5: shoot two of fifteen from three and still win a
- 12:40Speaker 5: game convincingly against a great Yukon offense.
- 12:43Speaker 1: The other modern day Fab five. I mean, seriously, they
- 12:47Speaker 1: don't come in as freshmen. They come in at all
- 12:48Speaker 1: different times, but they come in the same season they
- 12:51Speaker 1: go win a national championship.
- 12:52Speaker 2: That's it.
- 12:53Speaker 4: I feel like in ten to fifteen years, the one
- 12:56Speaker 4: name other than Yaxl that will come to mind for
- 12:58Speaker 4: Michigan fans most is does because in this era of
- 13:01Speaker 4: college basketball, if your coach can get your guys to
- 13:04Speaker 4: gel that quickly, Yeah, five new starters coming from other schools,
- 13:08Speaker 4: I think coaching matters more now more than ever.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I'll take it one step further.
- 13:12Speaker 1: If you could take FAU to a Final four, you're
- 13:17Speaker 1: a great coach, period, and a discussion like now he's.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Got a national championship.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I'm assuming he's going to with more national champion hips.
- 13:24Speaker 1: He's a great coach. He's a great guy. I've gotten
- 13:26Speaker 1: to know him a little bit. He was on the
- 13:28Speaker 1: show with us a couple of times last year when
- 13:30Speaker 1: he was the head coach at FAU.
- 13:32Speaker 2: But he is a good coach, and you're right.
- 13:34Speaker 1: To get those five guys to come together that quickly,
- 13:37Speaker 1: that is difficult to do.
- 13:39Speaker 5: So I'm trying to figure out why the Fab five
- 13:42Speaker 5: had such staying power.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Yes, they were really cool.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Yes, they were kind of transcendent for where they were
- 13:48Speaker 5: in the college basketball landscape. Stu, I think the staying
- 13:52Speaker 5: power is the nickname Fab Five. It's a great nickname.
- 13:56Speaker 5: This Michigan team needs a nickname, like the Terrific Transfer
- 14:00Speaker 5: or something.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Yes, and it was a it was a nickname they
- 14:03Speaker 1: didn't give themselves.
- 14:04Speaker 2: That's a terrible nickname. By the way.
- 14:07Speaker 1: It's a nickname they didn't give themselves. We gave it
- 14:09Speaker 1: to them, which is the best kind of nickname. The
- 14:12Speaker 1: Fab Five.
- 14:13Speaker 2: They were cultural icons. Man. They were five eighteen year
- 14:16Speaker 2: olds who came in.
- 14:17Speaker 1: They wore their shorts longer than everyone else, They made
- 14:20Speaker 1: fashion statements, they didn't give a bleep about the NCAA,
- 14:24Speaker 1: and they almost pulled it off as five eighteen year
- 14:26Speaker 1: old freshmen.
- 14:27Speaker 2: They were a walk away by Chris Weber, a time
- 14:30Speaker 2: away from winning a national championship.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And then they went back to the national championship game,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but they never won. So I think if you told
- 14:39Speaker 1: Danny Hurley sixty nine sixty three, that's gonna be the score,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I think he would have.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Said, hey, we won the game, right, he would have
- 14:45Speaker 2: taken it's.
- 14:46Speaker 4: For sure, right, absolutely, absolutely, And if they could have
- 14:50Speaker 4: played a little bit like how they did in the
- 14:53Speaker 4: first half and the second half, it would have been, Yes,
- 14:56Speaker 4: it would have It would have come down a little
- 14:58Speaker 4: bit more to the wire. It just felt like Michigan
- 15:00Speaker 4: kept them at an arm's length, and even when it
- 15:03Speaker 4: got down to four or five points. I'm not a
- 15:06Speaker 4: Michigan fan, so you know, maybe I wasn't sweating like
- 15:10Speaker 4: they were, but I don't know, it felt like they
- 15:12Speaker 4: had it the whole time.
- 15:13Speaker 1: You felt like Duke should have been playing, right, you did?
- 15:15Speaker 1: You felt like Duke should have been in that game
- 15:17Speaker 1: last Yeah?
- 15:17Speaker 2: Absolutely, honest. Yeah, you no business being there. Just hold
- 15:20Speaker 2: onto the ball. Just hold on to the ball. That's it.
- 15:23Speaker 2: That's it.
- 15:25Speaker 4: And not just Caden Boozer. Three guys passed the ball. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 4: just hold onto the ball. Yeah, it's good to figure
- 15:32Speaker 4: it out better definitely, not better. And I definitely wasn't
- 15:35Speaker 4: at the Final four last year when they lost to Houston.
- 15:37Speaker 2: He definitely wasn't there. How do you and Taylor get along?
- 15:40Speaker 2: And I'll get it well?
- 15:42Speaker 4: For me, Duke is by far my fifth. Like I'm
- 15:45Speaker 4: a New York sports fan, right. I worked at Duke
- 15:48Speaker 4: for a year. I was kind of a free agent.
- 15:50Speaker 4: I didn't go to a huge sports school, so I
- 15:53Speaker 4: became a Duke fan. But Duke is, you know, definitely
- 15:55Speaker 4: below the Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Rangers, So you know, heartbroken.
- 16:01Speaker 4: That might be a stretch, but yeah, Duke should have
- 16:04Speaker 4: been there last time.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I mean, who's your college football team, Indiana? No, you
- 16:07Speaker 2: know what, I'll stick with Duke.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I'll stick with You can't become a Duke basketball fan,
- 16:13Speaker 4: not route for Duke football.
- 16:14Speaker 2: You could do whatever the fuck you want. Man, sports
- 16:20Speaker 2: gotta tell it.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Definitely definitely Alex's worst trade about him being a Duke fan.
- 16:26Speaker 5: But Alex, I had I had Michigan in uh my
- 16:30Speaker 5: bracket pool yesterday where if Michigan won, I was gonna
- 16:33Speaker 5: win a lot of money on my bracketpool.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I was considering hedging.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Ultimately, to Stu Gotts's disapproval, I decided to go down
- 16:40Speaker 5: with my bracket. If Michigan did lose, I was counting
- 16:44Speaker 5: the money already. What what I didn't account for. When
- 16:49Speaker 5: you think Yukon is dead, you have to kill them
- 16:53Speaker 5: about four more times?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yes, you do. Yes. When they started pressing at the end,
- 17:00Speaker 2: it got interesting.
- 17:01Speaker 3: It was like a can end like this.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Yes, it might have been Danny Hurley's best coaching job.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I'm not even joking that.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Team Michigan was so much more talented than Connecticut.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Connecticut had guys injured.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I know Michigan did as well, but to keep that
- 17:17Speaker 1: game close to me, Danny Hurley did an exceptional job,
- 17:20Speaker 1: even while losing the national championship.
- 17:22Speaker 4: I think this was by far the least talented of
- 17:26Speaker 4: his championship teams in the last couple of years. Like
- 17:30Speaker 4: if this team somehow played the team from two years
- 17:34Speaker 4: ago and three years ago, I think those teams would
- 17:35Speaker 4: have killed this year's team.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yes, yep, do you like Danny Hurley? I do.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I think college basketball thrives on these coaches who are
- 17:46Speaker 4: bigger than the school. And we've seen a lot of
- 17:48Speaker 4: these coaches step down. You know, they're in different places
- 17:52Speaker 4: than they were when they made names for themselves. When
- 17:56Speaker 4: you have Danny Hurley's Rick Bettino's Calipar. He's that's when
- 18:01Speaker 4: college basketball is thriving. And you know, I think what's
- 18:05Speaker 4: interesting about the Fab five is that is one of
- 18:08Speaker 4: the few teams where you can talk about the players first.
- 18:11Speaker 4: A lot of other times you're talking about the coaches first.
- 18:13Speaker 4: It's the resumes of the coaches. And you know, yes,
- 18:18Speaker 4: these guys could be hatable sometimes, even looking the women's game,
- 18:22Speaker 4: how Geno acted the other night, it's ridiculous, right, But
- 18:25Speaker 4: I'm also kind of here for that, Like that's what
- 18:28Speaker 4: you sign up for with college basketball. These coaches who
- 18:31Speaker 4: are think they're bigger than the school and they rule
- 18:34Speaker 4: their little kingdom.
- 18:35Speaker 2: So I'm here for it.
- 18:36Speaker 1: He's a throwback, right you want Gino and Don Stalely
- 18:39Speaker 1: to never get along. It's yes, for us, it's it's
- 18:42Speaker 1: andy and they never will get along. But Hurley's kind
- 18:46Speaker 1: of a throwback to like, as you pointed out, Tom
- 18:48Speaker 1: Izzo and coach K Bob Huggins, guys like that. It's
- 18:52Speaker 1: gonna be interesting to see if that continues with guys
- 18:54Speaker 1: like Mike Malone at North Carolina. Like that's like he
- 18:58Speaker 1: doesn't exactly embrace the tradition of college basketball and the
- 19:02Speaker 1: University of North Carolina.
- 19:03Speaker 4: You know, I actually love that higher for them because
- 19:06Speaker 4: it's so easy to see his recruiting pitch. Hey, I
- 19:10Speaker 4: am a national I am a championship winning coach in
- 19:14Speaker 4: the NBA, and I coached NICOLEA Jokic. Right, Yes, Hey,
- 19:18Speaker 4: you're seventeen years old, we'll want to come play for me.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Oh you're twenty one years old and you played at
- 19:23Speaker 4: Tulsa and you want.
- 19:24Speaker 2: To come chansfer here. That's a pretty good reason to
- 19:26Speaker 2: work for Belichick.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I was just going to say that sounds awful. I
- 19:30Speaker 3: won Super Bowls and I coached Tom Brady.
- 19:34Speaker 2: What Carolina?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Carolina has clearly decided college sports has turned more and
- 19:42Speaker 1: more professional, and he continues to do so with each
- 19:44Speaker 1: passing day. Right, And so it seems like Carolina has
- 19:48Speaker 1: gone away from Carolina guys and more and more to
- 19:51Speaker 1: professional guys who have run organizations and teams before at
- 19:55Speaker 1: a professional level. And I guess I'm okay with that.
- 19:57Speaker 1: When you consider the changes going on in college.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I think the bigger question is why is Carolina getting
- 20:03Speaker 4: their like tenth choice.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the bigger question because it's hard.
- 20:09Speaker 4: It's hard to criticize the decision when a lot of
- 20:12Speaker 4: other guys passed up on it and they're kind of
- 20:14Speaker 4: left with not many other options.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Yeah, the moment that stunned me was when it came
- 20:20Speaker 5: out that Iowa's coach Ben McCullum turned down and interviewed.
- 20:24Speaker 2: And I'm like, that's amazing.
- 20:25Speaker 3: First off, Ben.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Mccollumb, you might have been towards the top of my board,
- 20:30Speaker 5: But who the hell do you think you are that
- 20:33Speaker 5: you're better than North Carolina.
- 20:36Speaker 4: He's from Iowa, he's coaching in Iowa, he's getting nil money.
- 20:40Speaker 1: What does he need the blue addresses of being the
- 20:44Speaker 1: head coach at North Carolina where Ubug Davis takes you
- 20:46Speaker 1: to a final four, beats Duke, beats coach k in
- 20:49Speaker 1: his final game and gets fired by you.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I mean you want that job?
- 20:54Speaker 5: Is it?
- 20:54Speaker 1: Staten Iola for your flight? Look at Kirk Ferrance, He's
- 20:57Speaker 1: been there forever. He goes five hundred every year and
- 21:00Speaker 1: continues to get paid millions of dollars. Alex, You're right,
- 21:03Speaker 1: you are ste Gods.
- 21:07Speaker 4: I'll take the crown now they got the Young Stu
- 21:10Speaker 4: Gotts Award.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Taylor is so accustomed to people just wanting that Carolina job.
- 21:14Speaker 1: But I understand why you're saying that and why.
- 21:16Speaker 2: You would be frustrated. But college sports has changed.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Like Tommy Lloyd is happy at Arizona, he doesn't need
- 21:23Speaker 1: to deal with the headaches of the University of North Carolina.
- 21:26Speaker 1: It's just it's just a different time. And Mike Malone
- 21:29Speaker 1: was just preferred job. So he's like, yeah, I'm in,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I'm good with Carolina, Let's go Taylor.
- 21:34Speaker 4: I know the feeling, and you know the feeling as
- 21:36Speaker 4: Yankees fans. These free agents they're Yankees until they're not.
- 21:41Speaker 4: And these coaches they're the next coach of Carolina until
- 21:45Speaker 4: they would rather stay in Iowa. I get the feeling,
- 21:48Speaker 4: you know, I do. I do, Stu.
- 21:53Speaker 2: How I'm spinning it today is.
- 21:56Speaker 1: That you're gonna talk yourself into liking Mike Maloney.
- 21:58Speaker 5: I've already done it. He's a New Yorker first, first,
- 22:01Speaker 5: and foremost, he's a New Yorker. I'm going to back
- 22:03Speaker 5: a New Yorker.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I wanted him to be coach of the Knicks when
- 22:06Speaker 2: they fired TIBs, So did I. Yes.
- 22:09Speaker 5: So at the very least, you know, oh, I didn't
- 22:14Speaker 5: know that. Well, at the very least he's still a
- 22:19Speaker 5: tremendous upgrade over Hubert Davis. There's no buyout, so we
- 22:24Speaker 5: could reinvest some of that money. He wanted to be here,
- 22:28Speaker 5: unlike Ben McCullum and leaves, that's the guy.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yep, go ahead.
- 22:34Speaker 5: And if he leaves for the NBA in a couple
- 22:37Speaker 5: of years, because he has his pickup job at the
- 22:40Speaker 5: very least, that most likely means that whatever happened at
- 22:44Speaker 5: Carolina went pretty well.
- 22:46Speaker 3: So I do think it's fair.
- 22:48Speaker 5: To say that Carolina's athletic department has has earned a
- 22:52Speaker 5: bit of skepticism from the fan base after how bad
- 22:55Speaker 5: the Bill Belichick hire went after that first year. But
- 22:59Speaker 5: this does feel like a high risk, high reward type
- 23:03Speaker 5: situation bringing in somebody like Mike Malone.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Michael Malone, Sorry.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Does it make you feel better that Michael Jordan lobbied
- 23:09Speaker 1: for him?
- 23:11Speaker 2: How?
- 23:11Speaker 3: How sure are we that?
- 23:14Speaker 5: Because every time anything comes out around Carolina, it's Michael
- 23:17Speaker 5: Jordan did this, Michael Jordan did that, And then.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Well you're saying, that's Carolina saying that Michael Jordan supported
- 23:23Speaker 1: Mike Malone.
- 23:23Speaker 2: To make you happier about the signing of Mike Malone.
- 23:27Speaker 5: Yeah, because when when it was rumored that we were
- 23:30Speaker 5: talking to Tommy Lloyd. It was Michael Jordan called Tommy Lloyd,
- 23:33Speaker 5: and then Tommy Lloyd was asked about it in his
- 23:35Speaker 5: press conference, He's like, no, Michael Jordan never called me.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Steve Caer did, yes, Steve is mj like a main
- 23:44Speaker 4: UNC NIL donor.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I don't know too much about it.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So the report that I read was that Roy Williams
- 23:51Speaker 1: and Michael Jordan, amongst others, really got behind Mike Malone and.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Really pitched it to the University of North Carolina.
- 23:59Speaker 5: So I could see that being the case for Roy
- 24:01Speaker 5: Williams for sure, because Roy Williams is still very heavily involved,
- 24:05Speaker 5: and when you talk about Carolina wanting to kind of
- 24:08Speaker 5: bridge together the Carolina family with whatever this next head
- 24:12Speaker 5: coach is, you would need almost Roy Williams blessing for
- 24:17Speaker 5: whoever it is. Michael Jordan, there's been some conflicted reports
- 24:21Speaker 5: on how involved he is with carolina Is NIL programs,
- 24:24Speaker 5: and there's some thought there that he doesn't want to
- 24:27Speaker 5: get too involved with Carolina's NIL programs because he still
- 24:31Speaker 5: does have, you know, the Michigan Jordan brand, the Florida
- 24:34Speaker 5: Jordan brand, Oklahoma Jordan brand. He has other Jordan schools
- 24:38Speaker 5: that aren't just exclusive to North Carolina.
- 24:40Speaker 4: So it sounds like Taylor that MJ is putting UNC
- 24:44Speaker 4: in his rankings below jump Man and below NASCAR.
- 24:50Speaker 2: So that's where UNC is sitting. They're sitting in the
- 24:52Speaker 2: three hole right now. You're ahead of the bulls, but
- 24:55Speaker 2: you're below race car driving here.
- 25:00Speaker 5: It seems like he's doing the Uh. Other schools are
- 25:03Speaker 5: Republicans or other schools by Jordan's too, where he did
- 25:07Speaker 5: the Republicans and the Democrat not really wanting to.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Take a side.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Michigan does.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Michigan buys Jordan's too.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Yeah, where Taylor, you got an NBA champion and his
- 25:23Speaker 1: coach man, I mean, and you're right. I think that's
- 25:27Speaker 1: a great point by Taylor, Alex. If Mike Malone is
- 25:30Speaker 1: no longer the head coach at Carolina in five years,
- 25:32Speaker 1: it means he did something spectacular at Carolina. Otherwise he's
- 25:35Speaker 1: gonna sit there like Belichick is sitting there right now.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Uh.
- 25:38Speaker 1: So, like Taylor should be excited if that does indeed
- 25:42Speaker 1: happen within the next five years, because it means he's
- 25:44Speaker 1: done well at Carolina and then other people are gonna
- 25:47Speaker 1: want that job.
- 25:47Speaker 4: So Taylor, what are the odds that Malone is the
- 25:50Speaker 4: coach of UNC five years from now?
- 25:52Speaker 2: Oh, it's a great question.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Do you want him to be the coach at UNC
- 25:55Speaker 1: four years? Also a great question? Wow, because Taylor, if
- 25:59Speaker 1: he's not, that means he's done great things already there,
- 26:02Speaker 1: you know, orban unlows he thinks that he's got himself highed.
- 26:05Speaker 5: So my hope is that Michael Malone took this job
- 26:09Speaker 5: thinking I'm gonna be the Carolina coach for until I
- 26:14Speaker 5: want to retire from basketball. So if he goes in
- 26:17Speaker 5: with that thinking, yes, I would like him to still
- 26:20Speaker 5: be here in five years. If his thought process was
- 26:24Speaker 5: I'm gonna kind of rehab my career to get back
- 26:27Speaker 5: to the NBA, then I don't think he's gonna be.
- 26:32Speaker 2: There is no way he's about to be at U
- 26:34Speaker 2: n C for the rest of his life and the
- 26:36Speaker 2: rest of his career.
- 26:37Speaker 4: There's no way, by the way, I think, if he
- 26:40Speaker 4: wins at UNC, I don't think his value then goes
- 26:43Speaker 4: back up and he goes back to the NBA. I
- 26:45Speaker 4: think if he wins at U n C, then he's
- 26:48Speaker 4: immortalized at you n see and then he stays at
- 26:50Speaker 4: u n see right.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Oh okay, so if he wins the title, who wins
- 26:53Speaker 1: the title first?
- 26:54Speaker 2: Him or John Shire? It better be John Shire. I
- 26:59Speaker 2: had better be John I'm Shire. I'm so rooty for Carolina.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Oh it's feeling snake bitten, but it better be John Shire.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I mean they're closer, but we know that could turn
- 27:11Speaker 1: it a year. Like it's right, you're not concerned about
- 27:14Speaker 1: Shire or at all, just his inability to you know,
- 27:17Speaker 1: win the big game.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I'm yeah, of course I'm concerned, but I don't think
- 27:21Speaker 4: the seat at is sizzling hot.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I don't think that. But I am concerned. But a
- 27:26Speaker 2: couple more years of this, I mean yeah.
- 27:29Speaker 4: If they lose next year in a way that they
- 27:31Speaker 4: lost the past two years, you.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Can't do that, then we'll be having some some some
- 27:36Speaker 2: serious talks. Alex.
- 27:38Speaker 5: For for some reason, if Ucon's ad comes up to
- 27:42Speaker 5: you today, it was like, hey, we'll trade you Shire
- 27:46Speaker 5: for Dan Hurley.
- 27:48Speaker 2: You don't take it as a Duke fan, of course
- 27:50Speaker 2: you did. Wait, the coacher just went to three national
- 27:52Speaker 2: championships in four years. Yes, yes, yes, yes, I mean yes.
- 27:56Speaker 3: You have to stab one of your own in the back.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Well no, so here's the thing. He can go to Doke.
- 28:00Speaker 1: He didn't attend the university, so he could say these
- 28:03Speaker 1: things with no ramifications.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Are correct?
- 28:05Speaker 1: Careful about what it is he says. I mean he
- 28:07Speaker 1: has to go back there.
- 28:08Speaker 4: I don't think that's a crazy I mean, is it?
- 28:12Speaker 4: Is there a coach better than Dan Hurley right now? No? No,
- 28:16Speaker 4: he's the best coach in college. Well, yeah, I thought right.
- 28:20Speaker 2: How about Dusty?
- 28:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought you were going to throw a name
- 28:23Speaker 4: out that's on a similar tier list if we're talking
- 28:26Speaker 4: tierless here.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Uh, well we'll.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Get to uh Taylor's baseball tiers after ten games at
- 28:31Speaker 1: a second, because he still cares about sports.
- 28:34Speaker 2: How about Dusty May?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Nope, you would keep John Shy or Dusty May just
- 28:41Speaker 1: proved to you that he could win the big game.
- 28:43Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's uncomfortable. Yeah, I would do it. I
- 28:50Speaker 4: would do it. There, I said it.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I would do it.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Of course you would you that three months ago, I
- 28:58Speaker 4: would have said, you're for that. But a lot can
- 29:01Speaker 4: change in two months. Three months, Yes, Alex.
- 29:05Speaker 5: To segue to baseball, we were doing a hypothetical trade.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Yet last week that Stugotts was laughing at me. Ad
- 29:11Speaker 5: nan Birk was laughing at me. Where I said, Cam Schlitzler,
- 29:16Speaker 5: I love Cam Schlittler me, Mikey, ever.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Get Cam Schlitller today today? By the way. Yeah, well,
- 29:22Speaker 2: spoiler alert, you're about to laugh at him. Go ahead.
- 29:25Speaker 5: I said, if the Pirates called and offered a one
- 29:28Speaker 5: for one trade Cam Schlitzler for Paul Schins, Hello, I'm
- 29:32Speaker 5: hanging up that phone.
- 29:36Speaker 4: A one for one yeah, straight up? Yep, laugh at him.
- 29:41Speaker 4: I'm like the biggest Cam Schliller fan. So I'm what
- 29:44Speaker 4: am I missing here? Not Taylor being a dope? Tell me,
- 29:47Speaker 4: tell me Taylor go on socer of the moment.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I mean this is a case of Cashman has struggled
- 29:54Speaker 5: to have homegrown pitching guys that when you do have
- 29:58Speaker 5: a homegrown pitching guy that feels like he could be
- 30:00Speaker 5: an ace, it's better to keep that guy and see
- 30:04Speaker 5: what he could become. You're looking at the Mets, The
- 30:07Speaker 5: Mets had the Gram, the Mets at Harvey. Guys like
- 30:10Speaker 5: that would feel a lot better than having to go
- 30:13Speaker 5: out and get an ace.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I mean, Mikey is a Yankee fan.
- 30:18Speaker 1: When you respond to Mikey is a Yankee fan, and
- 30:20Speaker 1: he doesn't believe the words that are coming out of
- 30:22Speaker 1: Taylor's mouth right now.
- 30:23Speaker 6: You know what this this is, This is yesterday, This
- 30:25Speaker 6: is you not hedging your bet.
- 30:27Speaker 3: This is I would rather stand on my morals and
- 30:31Speaker 3: lose money than actually win.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Like, no, no, no, you know what this is the
- 30:36Speaker 2: one you take it. This would be.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Me saying I don't want to trade John Shire for
- 30:41Speaker 4: Bobby Curly.
- 30:42Speaker 2: That's what this is. Is one of our own. That's
- 30:45Speaker 2: what this is.
- 30:47Speaker 5: I think mikey A is right though, because a part
- 30:49Speaker 5: of me is like I would rather lose with Cam
- 30:52Speaker 5: Schlitzler than win with Paul Skins.
- 30:55Speaker 2: No, you wouldn't. I understand what you're win. No, I
- 31:00Speaker 2: understand what he's saying. The homegrown talent, especially pitchers, it's great.
- 31:03Speaker 2: They come through the farm system.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I had it in the eighties with the Mets, with
- 31:06Speaker 1: Dwight Gooden and Ron Darling and those guys.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I get it. I understand it.
- 31:10Speaker 1: You had it with the Yankees before Jeter came through
- 31:12Speaker 1: the farm system. Other Yankee graats have come through that
- 31:15Speaker 1: farm system. But Paul Skeens is the best picture in baseball. Taylor,
- 31:19Speaker 1: I mean you want your team to get better, don't you?
- 31:24Speaker 2: Taylor Sitler right now? Right, I called him Shitler.
- 31:28Speaker 4: I said it a couple of last week, two weeks ago.
- 31:31Speaker 4: I think he'll be the best Yankee starter by the
- 31:33Speaker 4: end of the year. Would I treat him for Paul
- 31:35Speaker 4: Skeans one for one?
- 31:37Speaker 1: Yeah, if if Skeens and Schlittler were on the same team,
- 31:40Speaker 1: who would have the better year?
- 31:43Speaker 2: Right? Right?
- 31:44Speaker 4: But I will say since since Cam entered the league,
- 31:48Speaker 4: he has been the best starting pitcher in baseball. So
- 31:51Speaker 4: I'm not gonna say Taylor is is that great?
- 31:53Speaker 2: But Paul Skeen's I mean, I mean Skeens.
- 31:56Speaker 1: You know what Skeens is, right, and you know what
- 31:59Speaker 1: he's he's going to be how many starts as Schlitler
- 32:03Speaker 1: made It's it's not a lot, right.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Uh, He's he's pitched.
- 32:07Speaker 4: I saw one hundred innings, so call that I don't know,
- 32:11Speaker 4: twelve fifteen starts.
- 32:12Speaker 1: So there's like you could still envision a scenario where
- 32:16Speaker 1: he's not nearly.
- 32:17Speaker 2: As good as Paul Skiings, Right, But.
- 32:19Speaker 4: You've also seen Cam Schlitller in a big game spot. Yes,
- 32:23Speaker 4: he absolutely against Boston. And if you can do that
- 32:26Speaker 4: against Boston in a winner, go home playoff game.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I guess we don't know what Paul Skeens is like
- 32:32Speaker 2: in that kind of game yet, so.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I'm not saying into it. Yeah, well no, that's what
- 32:37Speaker 1: he wanted to kind of talk it. Well, no, because
- 32:40Speaker 1: that's it. He saw of him play, he saw him
- 32:43Speaker 1: in a big spot, he saw him in the playoffs.
- 32:45Speaker 1: It was against the Red Sox. Taylor couldn't bring himself
- 32:48Speaker 1: to root for Roman Anthony during the World Baseball Classic
- 32:50Speaker 1: game because he is right, you can do it, Red.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I understand him. I couldn't cheer for Jack Hughes throwing
- 32:56Speaker 2: out the first pitch. I think you stadium either, But
- 33:00Speaker 2: how about in the actual hockey game though? Were you
- 33:02Speaker 2: rooting for him? Uh?
- 33:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 33:04Speaker 4: And then by the next day I was. I was
- 33:07Speaker 4: back to being a Rangers fan. A guy's danced on
- 33:10Speaker 4: my grave every chance he could over the last couple
- 33:13Speaker 4: of years.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It takes a special kind of person to do it
- 33:16Speaker 1: in the Bronx in the postseason against the Red Sox.
- 33:20Speaker 1: And you don't know if Skeins is wired that way,
- 33:22Speaker 1: I understand, but he's still the best fucking picture in baseball.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm doing that trade.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, do you wanna before we get him out
- 33:32Speaker 1: of here, do you want to give us your your
- 33:35Speaker 1: baseball tiers through ten games.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I want to ask him about Dexter Lawrence in the second.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Yep.
- 33:39Speaker 5: So this is Taylor's tears, and this is the Taylor's
- 33:43Speaker 5: tears today on Tuesday.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Who Else's tears? Taylor's tears on a Tuesday?
- 33:48Speaker 1: My tears, I mean Taylor's tears on a Tuesday.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Showdown here, our national show. We counter programs it to
- 33:59Speaker 2: the locals know. Tier Tuesday is a good thing to
- 34:02Speaker 2: bust out today.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Okay, well we'll start doing Tier Tuesdays.
- 34:05Speaker 5: But today's topic is baseball teams and I have nine
- 34:09Speaker 5: tiers Alex through Tinnish games.
- 34:12Speaker 2: I love this.
- 34:13Speaker 5: So I'm gonna give you the tier and the teams
- 34:16Speaker 5: in that tier and then just get your opinion on him.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Yep, first tier bad for baseball.
- 34:22Speaker 2: The Dodgers bad for baseball. Yep, bad for baseball. I
- 34:27Speaker 2: mean this time next year, hopefully we're watching baseball.
- 34:30Speaker 6: As long as that's Tier one, I'm okay with it anyway,
- 34:33Speaker 6: whatever you want to call it, as long as it's.
- 34:35Speaker 3: The top tier.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Since I said a few days ago on the radio
- 34:38Speaker 1: show that Otani is overrated.
- 34:39Speaker 2: He's hit seventeen home runs. Anyway, go ahead, tell you.
- 34:42Speaker 5: You really got to be careful with Otani because when
- 34:45Speaker 5: he gets hot, he gets.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Really yeah, stambling person.
- 34:51Speaker 2: He can happen quickly with.
- 34:54Speaker 4: He can carry a team like a few guys, and
- 34:56Speaker 4: in a sport where you cannot carry teams.
- 35:00Speaker 2: The next thank you.
- 35:02Speaker 5: The next tier I have, Alex, it's the contenders tier.
- 35:08Speaker 5: I only have two contenders right now?
- 35:10Speaker 2: Wow? Did I guess them?
- 35:12Speaker 3: Guess?
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yes? I like it.
- 35:14Speaker 4: I'm going to say the Yanks, of course. And then
- 35:17Speaker 4: I'm going to say the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Oh, come on, he went to for two. Really you believe.
- 35:24Speaker 3: In that brew crew?
- 35:25Speaker 2: Get out of here. I mean, same season every season.
- 35:28Speaker 4: I bet their they're season over, They're they're team total over.
- 35:32Speaker 2: This year. I have a future on them. What was
- 35:34Speaker 2: it eighty four? Oh god, you're right. They had him
- 35:37Speaker 2: dropping from ninety seven to eighty four wins. That's crazy,
- 35:41Speaker 2: you're eight already.
- 35:42Speaker 3: That that Brewers team.
- 35:45Speaker 5: They could lose whoever they wanted free agency, they can
- 35:48Speaker 5: trade away their ace. They are still going to be
- 35:51Speaker 5: a ninety plus win team. Seemingly almost every year that is.
- 35:54Speaker 2: In the first round of the playoffs.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my problem with the Brewers. I got regular seasons.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Do it in the postseason. They're not a condemment.
- 36:06Speaker 3: My next tier Elx is I don't really love the vibes.
- 36:09Speaker 3: There just one team there.
- 36:12Speaker 2: That has to be the Boston Red Sox.
- 36:15Speaker 3: No, Wow, the Red Sox aren't a different tier.
- 36:18Speaker 2: It has to be the sell the team tier.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Wow, he's guessing my tears.
- 36:22Speaker 2: This is amazing.
- 36:24Speaker 3: The Red Sox are in the cell sell the team tier.
- 36:27Speaker 4: Taylor, we haven't texted about this as much to not
- 36:30Speaker 4: call it to sell.
- 36:30Speaker 2: The teams here.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Yes, Taylor and I have been sending this back and
- 36:33Speaker 4: forth with the fans at Fenway channing sell the team.
- 36:36Speaker 4: And for the first time in my life, of my
- 36:38Speaker 4: whole life of hating Red the Red Sox and Red
- 36:40Speaker 4: Sox fans, I actually agree with Red Sox fans because
- 36:43Speaker 4: I would be pissed if I for them.
- 36:45Speaker 2: This warms my heart.
- 36:46Speaker 1: These are kindred spirits here, These are these are great friends.
- 36:49Speaker 2: These this is this is too Listen, Duke and Carolina
- 36:53Speaker 2: guys getting along.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Man, in this day and age, it is fresh eating
- 36:57Speaker 1: to see no one gets along. And here you have
- 37:00Speaker 1: a guy who didn't go to Carolina, who went to
- 37:03Speaker 1: Carolina loves Carolina, and a guy who didn't go to
- 37:06Speaker 1: Duke but still loves Duke anyway because he's a front
- 37:08Speaker 1: runner and they're getting.
- 37:10Speaker 6: Out necessary shot.
- 37:16Speaker 2: But yeah, your body, who's the bad vibes team?
- 37:22Speaker 3: So my bad vibes team? It's the New York Mets.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yeah, terror bad vibes. Well these are Mets vibes, Yes exactly.
- 37:32Speaker 3: SOO goes on the il.
- 37:34Speaker 5: It seems like Francisco Lindor just hates everybody on that team,
- 37:38Speaker 5: which kind of seems like a problem their first place.
- 37:42Speaker 4: I mean, there's something weird with that locker that is
- 37:47Speaker 4: one hundred certain. I mean, even last year, we know
- 37:52Speaker 4: for a fact there was I saw that opening day
- 37:54Speaker 4: video where Lindor and Soto didn't shake hands in the
- 37:59Speaker 4: in the in the introductions.
- 38:01Speaker 2: That's weird. You're not gonna make too big of a
- 38:03Speaker 2: deal of it, but that's weird. Taylor put it on
- 38:05Speaker 2: the pole. Can you say a team.
- 38:06Speaker 1: That's won three straight and that's in first place, can
- 38:08Speaker 1: you say they have bad vibes? Can I just wait
- 38:13Speaker 1: for a losing streak.
- 38:14Speaker 5: I mean, my next tier is good question mark, and
- 38:21Speaker 5: there's only one team there.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Okay, want to guess it, the Angels.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Now the Angels are in a different tier.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Can I take a guess? Yep, all right, give me
- 38:31Speaker 1: the tier again. The name of it good question mark,
- 38:36Speaker 1: Cincinnati Reds No, right, the Vision, Pirates, the Pirates, Skians, Skians.
- 38:47Speaker 4: Just think about if O'Neil Kruz could catch a pop fly,
- 38:49Speaker 4: they would be in the great tier.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Now they're in a good question mark tier.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Just to be clear, Taylor saying there's a chance that
- 38:55Speaker 1: the Pirates are good.
- 38:56Speaker 2: He's just not certain yet, right, So he's asking the question.
- 39:00Speaker 2: This is on the question mark.
- 39:01Speaker 5: Yes, there's a chance that Ryan O'Hearn might be the
- 39:05Speaker 5: best player in baseball this season. Through ten games, he's
- 39:08Speaker 5: their first baseman's betting three to sixty four.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Those are Ben Rice numbers.
- 39:13Speaker 3: And that's why it's good question mark.
- 39:16Speaker 2: We got it.
- 39:18Speaker 5: The next one, the next tier, it's you guys gotta
- 39:22Speaker 5: figure it out.
- 39:24Speaker 3: And there's three teams and you guys, we.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Have to figure out the tier. Okay, So okay, these
- 39:29Speaker 2: teams need to figure it out.
- 39:31Speaker 3: You guys gotta figure it out.
- 39:32Speaker 2: There's three many teams, all right, three, all right, Alex,
- 39:35Speaker 2: go ahead, I'm gonna throw the Giants in there.
- 39:37Speaker 5: Nope, So the Giants are in my panic. The panic
- 39:40Speaker 5: button has already been pressed. Here the Padres, Mike, you
- 39:45Speaker 5: got it. The Blue Jays are one of the teams,
- 39:46Speaker 5: and that you gotta figure it out here.
- 39:48Speaker 3: They kind of stink this year.
- 39:51Speaker 2: I like that, Padres.
- 39:52Speaker 5: Guess yes, Padres, we're not in it there.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Four and six. It's one hundred and two fucking games.
- 40:01Speaker 4: The Mariners, the Mariners, the Mariners. Yeah, the Yankees dismantled them.
- 40:09Speaker 4: And the fact that we're having this conversation ten games
- 40:11Speaker 4: end of the season is insane.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Yes, and I'm also so proud of them. But can
- 40:15Speaker 1: we just pumped the brakes for a second. They're four
- 40:18Speaker 1: and six And he said they were a mess this year.
- 40:20Speaker 2: I didn't say.
- 40:21Speaker 3: I didn't say they were a mess.
- 40:23Speaker 5: I said, you guys gotta figure it out, Okay.
- 40:26Speaker 4: I mean, by the way, they could have been the
- 40:28Speaker 4: bad Vibes team.
- 40:30Speaker 5: Oh, Mikey, the Tigers are in a different tier for me.
- 40:33Speaker 5: The Tigers at four and six, I've moved them into
- 40:35Speaker 5: the pretenders.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Yeah, oh wow, there is.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Still one more team and that you guys got to
- 40:41Speaker 3: figure it out here.
- 40:41Speaker 2: It wasn't the Padres, right and now Central and l.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Central Okay, uh, Cardinals, it's the Cupubbies, the Cubbies. Yeah, counsel.
- 40:54Speaker 2: At six. You gotta figure it out. Listen, there we're back.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I might be.
- 41:04Speaker 5: So. Then there's one more tier, and it's the feisty tier.
- 41:12Speaker 2: I know it. I know over the weekend.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Yeah, there's three teams in the feisty Tier.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Well, I know one of them, Alex knows. One of
- 41:21Speaker 2: them might be the Marlins.
- 41:23Speaker 3: The Marlins lead the leader.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they lead the league in feist They do
- 41:28Speaker 1: first place at the.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Game on Saturday, sitting in forty degree weather for the
- 41:33Speaker 4: longest game in pitchclock history, as the Marlins fouled one
- 41:38Speaker 4: ball off after another and walked twelve guys.
- 41:42Speaker 2: It was you know, I'm sick of the Martins, sick
- 41:45Speaker 2: of you know.
- 41:45Speaker 3: You know why.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Welcome to Taylor's Tears.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I mean they are four and oh and one running games.
- 41:53Speaker 2: That's feisty. That's what feisty is all about.
- 41:55Speaker 5: And the other key to being a feisty team is
- 41:59Speaker 5: you can never look at a team and get confused
- 42:01Speaker 5: if they're good or not. Like everybody could look at
- 42:04Speaker 5: the Marlins and be like, we're pretty sure that's not
- 42:06Speaker 5: a good team.
- 42:07Speaker 3: But man, they are feisty.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I think having players. I think having players you can't name,
- 42:13Speaker 1: they're feisty. The White Sox are first.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Yes, they went from a White safe in one year.
- 42:17Speaker 5: White Sox are the second team in the feisty category.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Yes, it has to be a team that's not really
- 42:22Speaker 1: that talented, that had very low expectations coming because it
- 42:25Speaker 1: can't be a great team. A great team cannot be feisty.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Taylor put that on the pul Can the Yankees ever
- 42:29Speaker 1: be feisty.
- 42:30Speaker 2: No, that goes that goes against everything.
- 42:33Speaker 3: I stam, you mentioned them earlier. The final team in
- 42:40Speaker 3: the feisty tier it's Angels.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Yeah, really, why are you so excited about that?
- 42:47Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:47Speaker 4: I thought that Joe Adell catch, actually not just the catch,
- 42:51Speaker 4: the picture from the catch of him in right field
- 42:55Speaker 4: holding the ball up.
- 42:56Speaker 2: From the sands was one of the coolest pictures. And
- 42:58Speaker 2: I've seen a recent memory.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but we're within twenty five games of Trout getting hurt.
- 43:03Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, I'll take the under two respectfully.
- 43:07Speaker 2: You would, really, yeah, I would. Actually he got hit
- 43:11Speaker 2: in the hand.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Yeah, two days ago.
- 43:14Speaker 2: He's already on the I l yea for the guy.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I think we were robbed. We were robbed of Mike Trout.
- 43:22Speaker 2: He's won three m vps though, man, I mean he's
- 43:25Speaker 2: never won a playoff game. Well that's on him.
- 43:27Speaker 4: I mean right, it is on him. But we were
- 43:30Speaker 4: robbed because of his stupidity.
- 43:31Speaker 2: If only he had I mean, imagine that team.
- 43:35Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's the that's the a Rod.
- 43:39Speaker 2: On the Rangers tier. You are a great player on
- 43:42Speaker 2: a bad team.
- 43:43Speaker 5: Yes, Alex, there's an unpopular opinion. You mentioned the the
- 43:46Speaker 5: Joe Adell catch the three robberies from this past weekend,
- 43:51Speaker 5: the third robbery. He leaves his feet, jumps, robs the
- 43:57Speaker 5: home run and lands in the crowd, and he gets up,
- 44:02Speaker 5: he holds the ball up, called it out. There's some
- 44:05Speaker 5: people on baseball Twitter that are kind of against fun,
- 44:09Speaker 5: kind of against cool, and said losers, if you catch
- 44:13Speaker 5: a ball that carries you into the crowd, it should
- 44:15Speaker 5: be a home run.
- 44:17Speaker 4: And you have to catch a football with two hands too.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Come on, come on, we want more fun, more cool.
- 44:24Speaker 4: Like I'm an unbelievable catch. It wasn't like I think
- 44:29Speaker 4: if you go in the hands and establish you know,
- 44:33Speaker 4: two feet on the ground, established possession. And I have
- 44:38Speaker 4: a problem with it if you make an unbelievable catch
- 44:40Speaker 4: and in the process fallover. I mean, what happens in
- 44:43Speaker 4: Fenway when you catch a ball and right field and
- 44:45Speaker 4: flip over there?
- 44:46Speaker 2: That's a catch. Yes, it's a catch. Yes, But you
- 44:51Speaker 2: want more fun in baseball?
- 44:52Speaker 1: Listen, I'm sorry lobby for ponds in the outfield and
- 44:55Speaker 1: a trampoline.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I mean so.
- 44:58Speaker 4: And if we were doing fun, rank of every team
- 45:02Speaker 4: of every league right now, I think baseball is close
- 45:04Speaker 4: to the top.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I love that Billy had onto the outfield that you
- 45:11Speaker 1: can dive.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Into to make a diving catch.
- 45:13Speaker 1: It's one idea trampoline you jump, you jump on it,
- 45:16Speaker 1: it takes you over the fence. You make catches over
- 45:18Speaker 1: the fence. Fantastic. Manford hated all of them. We pitched
- 45:21Speaker 1: them to him. He's done a good job, Manford, has
- 45:25Speaker 1: he not? Would you agree with that? And like he's not,
- 45:28Speaker 1: I don't think he's terribly liked. Okay, but under his
- 45:32Speaker 1: watch baseball has had a resurger it so and you
- 45:34Speaker 1: have to give them credit for it, right.
- 45:36Speaker 4: One hundred per I would love to know what theo
- 45:39Speaker 4: Epstein's role is in this, because things got a lot
- 45:42Speaker 4: better when he brought theo Epstein to really change up
- 45:46Speaker 4: the game, and theo Epstein fixed the Red Sox. He
- 45:49Speaker 4: fixed the Cubs, and I kind of feel like he's
- 45:50Speaker 4: fixing major League Baseball right now too. I think the
- 45:55Speaker 4: biggest test for Manfred hasn't even come up yet. There's
- 45:58Speaker 4: still remnants of how he handled the Astros scandal that
- 46:02Speaker 4: pissed me off. But when he's done for the actual game,
- 46:05Speaker 4: night in and night out, basis and games are under
- 46:08Speaker 4: two hours forty minutes, ABS is a hit, there's more
- 46:11Speaker 4: stolen bases, there's more balls in play. I think that
- 46:16Speaker 4: coupled with teams I don't want to say going away
- 46:19Speaker 4: from analytics, but less three outcome baseball. Yes, I think
- 46:24Speaker 4: that's great for the game we saw in the World
- 46:25Speaker 4: Series last year.
- 46:27Speaker 1: All I'm going to skip over Dexter Lawrence here in
- 46:29Speaker 1: the Giants.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Okay, he's not going anywhere a Giant good. I like that.
- 46:34Speaker 2: That's it, you covered it. That's good. If they trade him,
- 46:37Speaker 2: then the good vibes perfect are no more. Yes, but
- 46:40Speaker 2: I amfore to trade.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Him as a youngsterigats who still cares about sports. How
- 46:44Speaker 1: do you treat this week? Because for me, this is
- 46:46Speaker 1: the greatest week on the sports calendar. It's the only
- 46:49Speaker 1: thing I've been consistent about over twenty years of doing
- 46:51Speaker 1: this is that this week Masters week is the greatest
- 46:55Speaker 1: sports week on the calendar.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Will you be glued to it Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Well, look, I don't want to lose my young Stu
- 47:03Speaker 4: Gott's throne within forty five minutes.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I'm a weekend Master, Scott.
- 47:08Speaker 4: I'm not one of those guys who will put it
- 47:10Speaker 4: on on Wednesday during the practice round to just stare
- 47:13Speaker 4: at the greens and I can't.
- 47:15Speaker 2: There are a lot of people that that do. But yeah,
- 47:19Speaker 2: I'll be I'll be locked in this weekend. Okay, moving
- 47:22Speaker 2: day and final round?
- 47:24Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, But like let's say it's the final round
- 47:28Speaker 1: and the Yankees are you know not in at five
- 47:30Speaker 1: apiece at the bottom of the eighth inning? Like where
- 47:36Speaker 1: both on the Yankees?
- 47:37Speaker 4: Well the question is which one the sound is on.
- 47:39Speaker 4: But I'll be locked in this weekend, right. Have you
- 47:43Speaker 4: been to Augusta yeah, I went a couple of years ago, Okay,
- 47:47Speaker 4: and I assume it's everything it's.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Made out to me and more. Yes, Yeah, incredible. Yeah.
- 47:54Speaker 4: Look, I don't think there's any sporting event that has
- 47:57Speaker 4: the branding and the pageant of Masters like it's it's
- 48:03Speaker 4: Masters Week. People are watching it on Tuesday and it
- 48:07Speaker 4: goes all week, and you can't say that about really
- 48:09Speaker 4: any other golfing tournament. I'll be locked in this weekend.
- 48:13Speaker 4: But do you have any locks? Do you have any
- 48:15Speaker 4: good picks for me?
- 48:16Speaker 1: Stu Well, I mean, Scheffler is the obvious pick. He
- 48:19Speaker 1: has played well this year, but he's wanted a bunch
- 48:21Speaker 1: and he's the best golfer in the world and his
- 48:23Speaker 1: best is better than everyone else's best.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Of course, I would take a flyer.
- 48:27Speaker 1: On Jordan's Speith. I would put a flyer on Tommy Fleetwood.
- 48:32Speaker 1: I think he's he's.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Playing pretty well.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Trying that Jason Day is a guy I would take
- 48:37Speaker 1: a flyer on.
- 48:38Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of it. I bet Jason Day
- 48:40Speaker 2: for every major.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Robert McIntyre has played, uh has played really well. Yeah,
- 48:46Speaker 1: I know that's what the Masters is all about. It's
- 48:48Speaker 1: just flyers. That's all. But for the first time in
- 48:52Speaker 1: a long time, there is no you know, it was
- 48:54Speaker 1: Phil and Tiger all the time. And I know Rory
- 48:57Speaker 1: won it last year. I don't I can't. I can
- 48:59Speaker 1: imagine gonna win it again this year. He's not playing
- 49:01Speaker 1: that well. Uh, Scheffler is the obvious pick, but that's
- 49:05Speaker 1: you know, it's the odds great.
- 49:06Speaker 2: There.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I would go Tommy Fleetwood. He is due, like he's
- 49:10Speaker 1: bound to win that tournament. He's always in contention. He's
- 49:13Speaker 1: never won it, he's never won a major. Tommy Fleetwood,
- 49:16Speaker 1: and you'll probably get good value on So all right,
- 49:18Speaker 1: I'll sprinkle, all right, a little sprinkle, Yeah, like that?
- 49:21Speaker 1: You are, mate, Jesus Christ, two of you. I mean, seriously,
- 49:24Speaker 1: I don't know. They're sprouting up everywhere. I should be proud,
- 49:28Speaker 1: but I'm not. I'm concerned.
- 49:30Speaker 4: I enjoy watching golf a lot more when I have
- 49:33Speaker 4: money on it.
- 49:33Speaker 2: I'll just be honest. When you have money on a
- 49:36Speaker 2: guy coming back nine, like yeah, time for that. Yeah,
- 49:39Speaker 2: but you'll still take a nap. I mean, if you're
- 49:43Speaker 2: not taking a naptor in the Masters, you're doing it wrong.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Put it on the poletael or if you're not taking
- 49:47Speaker 1: a naptor and the masters.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Are you doing it wrong?
- 49:49Speaker 4: Alex, I think to fully enjoy the Masters, you sneak
- 49:53Speaker 4: in a twenty five minute power in that.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Right, unless the Yankees are not it at five in
- 49:57Speaker 1: the bottom of the eighth, yes before the seventh inning.
