- 1:03Speaker 3: How you doing, I'm good. Are you guys doing good?
- 1:07Speaker 4: First question out of the gates. If this is a
- 1:10Speaker 4: purely football question, and it meant the Broncos have a
- 1:13Speaker 4: better or worse chance to win, If Russell Wilson was
- 1:16Speaker 4: starting ahead of Justin Fields with the Broncos have a
- 1:19Speaker 4: worse or better chance to win.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I think worse, but that's I know I'm in the
- 1:27Speaker 3: Russell plays better than most people think camp I get that,
- 1:31Speaker 3: I admit that, but I think Fields is still really
- 1:35Speaker 3: raw and he's still one of those quarterbacks. And Josh
- 1:40Speaker 3: Allen was like this earlier in his career. It's just
- 1:43Speaker 3: part of the progression when when guys have that kind
- 1:46Speaker 3: of mobility, they tend to lean on it too much.
- 1:50Speaker 3: They tend to use it when they shouldn't. And he's
- 1:54Speaker 3: still in that stage. He's still finding that good balance
- 1:58Speaker 3: between water play as I could make from the pocket
- 2:02Speaker 3: and when should I take off with this fabulous running ability.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And I know Russ strays a little too often too,
- 2:10Speaker 3: but I think the big play potential is still there
- 2:14Speaker 3: with Russ, and if he was playing, I think it
- 2:15Speaker 3: would be a tougher deal.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I'm sure that Sean Payton and the Broncos are happy
- 2:19Speaker 2: the Russell Wilson returns to Denver. Theme is not a
- 2:22Speaker 2: big play this week since he may not play. I
- 2:25Speaker 2: want to ask you about Odric Estimate, who turns out
- 2:28Speaker 2: estimated to miss four weeks minimum with the injured reserve.
- 2:32Speaker 2: What happened to his ankle when did he injure it?
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I went back through the game video twice and
- 2:40Speaker 3: I really couldn't see it. But you know, sometimes I've
- 2:45Speaker 3: seen many occasions where guys leave the game and are
- 2:47Speaker 3: on the plane or even the next morning, they show
- 2:51Speaker 3: up and you know, a knee or an ankle or
- 2:53Speaker 3: an elbow is just swollen beyond belief, and they don't
- 2:57Speaker 3: even know sort of when they did it, but because
- 3:00Speaker 3: he was still moving around when I saw him late
- 3:05Speaker 3: in the game and then after after the game. So
- 3:09Speaker 3: that's just one of those deals. But I knew, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 3: yesterday afternoon, you knew somebody was going to i R.
- 3:16Speaker 3: When they immediately signed Davis after the workout to the
- 3:20Speaker 3: practice squad. You just knew there were things in motion,
- 3:25Speaker 3: and you know, there were too many guys not practicing
- 3:28Speaker 3: yesterday for one of them not to go to the
- 3:30Speaker 3: short term.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I arf my only guess when he fumbled the ball.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Do you remember he tried to hurdle the guy and
- 3:36Speaker 2: perhaps when he raised his leg up it got knocked around.
- 3:40Speaker 2: That would be my only guess if it happening game.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, again, I looked at it a couple of times
- 3:47Speaker 3: and slowed everything down. I even looked at you know,
- 3:51Speaker 3: some of the views. I had some end zone views
- 3:54Speaker 3: that somebody from another team helped me with and you
- 3:59Speaker 3: could sort of see him on the sideline a little
- 4:01Speaker 3: bit too, and some of those that I didn't see
- 4:03Speaker 3: anything in those either. But again, you know that's that's
- 4:06Speaker 3: football craziness sometimes.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Well, Jeff, we know that Estimate is gone for a month,
- 4:11Speaker 1: but the other guys who are banged up, and again
- 4:15Speaker 1: Week one did not spare the Denver Broncos and a
- 4:17Speaker 1: lot of teams, but Garrett Bowles. You talked about Reynolds
- 4:20Speaker 1: and Devon Valley Wattenberg, and I think Jonah Ellis is
- 4:25Speaker 1: on that if I'm not mistaken. Do you have any
- 4:28Speaker 1: idea where these guys are getting ready for practice today?
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Alice practiced yesterday, but the other, you know,
- 4:38Speaker 3: the other four guys that there's three guys now with
- 4:41Speaker 3: Estimate moving to I you know, I doubt Derek Bowles
- 4:47Speaker 3: with practice, but they were all you know in Jerseys
- 4:50Speaker 3: working on a side field yesterday. That usually means you
- 4:53Speaker 3: know you're in that range of maybe can practice if
- 4:57Speaker 3: things go well in the rehead show. But of the three,
- 5:02Speaker 3: I didn't think Bowles was moving even as well as
- 5:06Speaker 3: the other two guys were.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Jeff Lake bold with his ESPN dot com how much
- 5:11Speaker 4: of bo Nicks's debut was a bow Knicks not playing
- 5:14Speaker 4: well and how much of that was no protection, no
- 5:17Speaker 4: running game and dropped passes.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I think it is about ninety. I tried to tell
- 5:26Speaker 3: everybody would listen bo Nicks as a rookie quarterback, and
- 5:30Speaker 3: he played about how rookie quarterbacks play in their debut
- 5:34Speaker 3: on the road in a tough place. Yeah, they didn't
- 5:38Speaker 3: protect very well, but you know, some of it, some
- 5:42Speaker 3: of it as him. I think the I don't think
- 5:45Speaker 3: the sideline helped them much. I thought they bailed on
- 5:48Speaker 3: the run game. You know, I've said it on one
- 5:52Speaker 3: of the other shows. I just I'm continually for three
- 5:57Speaker 3: plus decades now, I'm always confused why one bad running
- 6:02Speaker 3: play immediately takes the run game off the table, but
- 6:06Speaker 3: coaches will call fourteen pass plays that don't work in
- 6:09Speaker 3: a row true and keep throwing. And it's just always
- 6:15Speaker 3: been that way, and I never get it. I asked
- 6:18Speaker 3: coaches about it all the time and nobody has a
- 6:21Speaker 3: good answer. But the Broncos did it again, you know,
- 6:24Speaker 3: especially guys without sense of you know, roots in their
- 6:29Speaker 3: coaching tree, like Sean Payton.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Man.
- 6:32Speaker 3: They bail on the run game after one or two
- 6:34Speaker 3: bad runs, But theyn't watch twelve incompletions and an interception
- 6:38Speaker 3: without any problem at all. So I don't get it.
- 6:41Speaker 3: And I thought they did bowet a disservice a little
- 6:45Speaker 3: bit by not. I thought they were they almost game
- 6:49Speaker 3: plan to prove he wouldn't play like a rookie, and
- 6:53Speaker 3: I think it bit him in the bit him in
- 6:55Speaker 3: the ass a little bit.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Well, I'll ask the question we asked all of last season,
- 6:59Speaker 2: why is it Orvin Mims a bigger part of the
- 7:01Speaker 2: offensive game plan?
- 7:03Speaker 3: And they're they're giving the same answer they gave last season,
- 7:07Speaker 3: except they can't use Jerry's duty as an excuse anymore.
- 7:10Speaker 3: But somehow the rotation doesn't work out for Marvin Mems
- 7:14Speaker 3: And uh, you go again. I saw that their speed
- 7:19Speaker 3: was not involved. You know, Troy Franklin was inactive, and
- 7:22Speaker 3: Marvin Mims played twelve snaps and those are their speed
- 7:27Speaker 3: guys at receiver, and uh, the Seahawks played defense like
- 7:32Speaker 3: they knew the speed guys were not involved. And other
- 7:36Speaker 3: people are gonna keep doing it to the Broncos. They're
- 7:38Speaker 3: gonna squeeze, uh, They're gonna make bow Nicks throw to
- 7:42Speaker 3: the sidelines, and they're gonna squeeze the Broncos from the
- 7:45Speaker 3: top down in coverage. And if the Broncos don't get
- 7:49Speaker 3: an answer to it, a lot of games are gonna
- 7:51Speaker 3: look like Sunday.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Jeff, I watched a lot and I mean a lot
- 7:55Speaker 1: of that Falcons and Steelers game. Am I overestimating how
- 8:00Speaker 1: how good the Steelers defense really is? Or are they
- 8:02Speaker 1: that good?
- 8:04Speaker 3: Oh man? I don't think Tomlin's had a losing season,
- 8:07Speaker 3: so I think it's always a pretty safe bet that
- 8:10Speaker 3: they're gonna play pretty well.
- 8:12Speaker 1: T Wat is scary, Jeff. He was. I mean, he
- 8:15Speaker 1: was an absolute ball in a Chinese shop.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and I you know, again, I can't remember the
- 8:21Speaker 3: last time. You know that the Broncos haven't faced him
- 8:24Speaker 3: a time, but they've never handled him well in any
- 8:28Speaker 3: time they've played him. So and I think if if
- 8:31Speaker 3: Garrett Balls doesn't play and Sean Payton decides to line
- 8:35Speaker 3: up in three wide for forty two snaps, again, I
- 8:38Speaker 3: think it's going to be a long day for the
- 8:40Speaker 3: rookie quarterback and at some point they're just gonna have
- 8:43Speaker 3: to admit he's a rookie and play that way. I
- 8:46Speaker 3: did not get that sense in the opener, and maybe
- 8:50Speaker 3: that's just a personal thing and people can take it
- 8:53Speaker 3: for what it for what it's worth. But I think
- 8:56Speaker 3: the biggest problem of the season opener was the dead
- 9:00Speaker 3: ver Broncos didn't all gather together in a room and say, Okay,
- 9:03Speaker 3: we have a rookie quarterback. How can we help him
- 9:06Speaker 3: the most? And if that look if that means look
- 9:10Speaker 3: a little more boring, or if that means lining up
- 9:13Speaker 3: in big burly formations more often, I think they should
- 9:17Speaker 3: do that, because again they go three and four wide
- 9:21Speaker 3: as many times as they did against the Seahawks, you know,
- 9:24Speaker 3: KEJ Watt, and they win Defensive Player of the Year
- 9:26Speaker 3: in Week two, you know, for one.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Of the more under talked about things. Because it's all
- 9:32Speaker 4: focused on Bonnicks and the offense, I was curious what
- 9:35Speaker 4: the defense is going to look like. I thought they'd
- 9:36Speaker 4: be okay, but maybe take a step down from last year.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I thought they were great in the first week. You know,
- 9:41Speaker 4: they get turnovers, they got a couple of safeties in
- 9:43Speaker 4: a half, the dynamic receiving core of DK Metcalf, Tyler
- 9:48Speaker 4: Lockett and JSN were held in check pretty well. I
- 9:51Speaker 4: thought they played great.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you know, the third quarter run defense.
- 9:55Speaker 3: I think they gave up ninety yards rushing in the
- 9:58Speaker 3: third quarter, and you know, they got caught a little
- 10:01Speaker 3: bit by a lot of short possessions by their own offense.
- 10:06Speaker 3: You know, I think they were I think they were
- 10:08Speaker 3: dashed in the third quarter and couldn't sort of get
- 10:11Speaker 3: themselves out of it. But other than that, you know,
- 10:15Speaker 3: they did what they you know, are asked to do.
- 10:18Speaker 3: They they they created pressure and then they had two safeties,
- 10:22Speaker 3: almost had a third. Uh you know, got the turnovers.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Uh.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Metcalf was a non factor because Sir Tam was on
- 10:30Speaker 3: them for every route except one. So I think they
- 10:35Speaker 3: did do well enough, you know for the Broncos to
- 10:38Speaker 3: get to win. You know, you know, just that run
- 10:41Speaker 3: defense blip again. Uh, they got to get that wrinkle
- 10:45Speaker 3: out because I think teams will sort of hammer hammer
- 10:49Speaker 3: them a little bit with with sort of that pace
- 10:53Speaker 3: on offense. You know, the Seahawks went tempo a little
- 10:56Speaker 3: bit right after halftime and that the Broncos didn't really
- 10:59Speaker 3: adjust to that. Till in the fourth quarter or late
- 11:01Speaker 3: in the Thursday, Jeff.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Leg Wald, have you ever unknowingly published a romantic video
- 11:07Speaker 2: on social media?
- 11:09Speaker 3: Wow? I didn't expect that one, now, you know. I
- 11:12Speaker 3: gotta say I successfully avoided publishing the romantic video. All right?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Have you have you ever had romance?
- 11:23Speaker 3: That's a that's a fair question.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Well you have you have reproduce, So I'm gonna see
- 11:31Speaker 1: the answer is probably yes, but I'm just saying no,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I have.
- 11:34Speaker 3: I have two amazing, spectacular children who have overcome their
- 11:39Speaker 3: DNA in every way, So I yes, I have wonderful kid.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I can voucher that. Jeffrey, You're the best, buddy.
