Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Five, six, seven, eight.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: What if?
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: What if?
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: What if?
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: Every time that's our intro word, what if?
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: All right, here we go.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmour to say with Terran Haley.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Terran, this is Haley.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Haley.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Terran.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you're so, you're so mellow today.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: What is?
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yellow, mellow, mellow, mellow, mellow.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's such a good color as we're heading into August.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I forgot that this was like the first episode of August.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's August fifth.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I was going to my August tea.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a little crop top, it's orange, it says a line from the song, I forgot, which one.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: One of the songs.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's not it.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's something else, but it's from August.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'll wear it in last week's episode, which we're actually going to record tomorrow.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: So doing a little bit out of order.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know why.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why we chose what we did that.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: But that's okay.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: But it's what we did.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but anyway, happy August y'all.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is the start of like my favorite month trio.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people love the Burmond September.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, remember, would you like a gust in there?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: I do too, but I really love the trio of August September October.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: It is just a really lovely, yummy little transition from summer into fall.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: Our favorite season, so I'm really excited about that.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: We have some really fun things planned for the whole world.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're just getting closer.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe it.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's so close.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's so close.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: Someone was like, okay, let's skip what's we're going back to school, like all these things are happening.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, whoa, that's so true.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: Some are just started though.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like it just started.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: And for all intents and purposes when we're recording, it kind of has.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: But it, it doesn't just started, but we're still like, when we're recording this, it's still mid July.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, we're putting ourselves into this headspace, but it's so close.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's so love us.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna have to wait and see, like, at the end of August, if I'm, like, truly ready for that September first, we're going to start as hollow, breathe in deep folks.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's still summer, but it smells like fall.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm interested to see.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: Cause, like, I feel like, and it alternates various years, like, I'm like, dead set, ready for fall, or I'm like, no, I still want summer.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, totally.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: I remember that it's kind of oscillated with you.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes feel one way and then the other and I get it totally understand yeah
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: Lately though, I'm ready for fall.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's been well as degrees.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Every day's a sheet on the side.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's nice outside.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I know.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: I want a breeze.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: I want a little breeze a little crisp in the air.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: But for now, it's still summer and I'm really excited about today's episode.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: This is something that we've been talking about doing for a while, which is kind of rewriting season seven of Gilmore Girls.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: Famously it is one of the lesser liked seasons for many reasons.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean for that to rhyme.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: But as we were watching it, as y'all know, because we've talked about it last two weeks, we're continuing to y'all about it now.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: We just finished watching it on Patreon.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: And we had a lot to say about it as it was unfolding.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: But we took note of as we were going through it.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: And we mentioned this in our season seven recap is that there were certain aspects to it that we wrote down like, here's what we would change because I wanted to remember.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm so glad I did because we wouldn't have remembered any of this.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: How do you know?
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so even not like having it written down like going through some of because we asked y'all about some of these aspects in a question box scrolling back through I was like oh my god I forgot about this and this and this is like a couple of things that we didn't mention in our recap episode that I want to be like did you actually think about this or did you just not include it?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that I have questions about.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't read any of those.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really excited to like dive in with our best news.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: But at the end of every episode, Tara would ask me what would we change?
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: Because we talked about it throughout the episode as we went through.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: And there were a couple episodes that like, by the time we had like, listen, everything we were changed.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, so the whole episode.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: The whole episode.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: There were a couple that like didn't have as many as others.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: But there were a lot.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: There were a lot of changes.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Totally.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: And to be fair, there are a lot of things in here.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of episodes in here where we didn't write anything.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not that we wouldn't change it.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's just more over that we were like, we just didn't like it.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Or we just felt like it was kind of weak.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: And we didn't necessarily have anything to offer.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe as we go through them, it'll kind of jogger.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: creativity.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, you know, we've been talking about doing this.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think since we started the podcast because people have asked us like, what would you rewrite about season seven?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: How do you think Amy and Dan would have approached season seven?
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that question is very difficult to answer, but for us, you know, in how we would maybe rewrite some of that, I didn't want to consider that until we watched season seven because I thought that was unfair.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was like,
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's one of my lesser watched seasons.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't want to do that until we had really gotten a chance to sing our teeth into it.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: We watch on Patreon when we do Gilmorey visited these episodes through the very, very discerning eye.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: And so we criticize them a lot more than we would if we were just back relaxing and watching our favorite TV shows.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was a lot easier to talk about what we would shift, change, rewrite altogether after having watched it with that magnifying glass.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when you're taking notes on it, it's such a different experience.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like an episode that it's like a six can turn into an episode that's a ten when you're just laying back and watching it and chill in.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you're like taking notes, you're like, you like really, really have to think about it.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people, um,
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like maybe think we're being a little bit harsh about it.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: But when you watch it that intensely, you kind of like start to really feel what's missing.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: Firstly, when you just kind of chill in, you're like, you're my friends and my character.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's on the background.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: So let's start at the beginning.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go through this first and then we're going to share our thoughts.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: And once we do that, kind of share a little bit about what you guys wrote to us on Instagram in the forms of what you would rewrite and also some what it.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: I was laughing at some of the one of us I can't wait to read some of them to you.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: They're really funny.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: But let's start with some rewrites.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: What we would change.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: And it's really not until we get to French twist that I started writing down what we would change.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: But before that, we have six whole episodes.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: We have the long morrow, which we really didn't enjoy that opener as we talked about in our recap two weeks ago.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: And like to viceively, we felt very differently about the rocket.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: We did, yeah, I would have written the rocket.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: What would you have rewritten it to?
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing I don't know and I didn't know then, but it was like it just felt like so out of the blue and so...
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like, such a small random gift that he needed her to remember in order to tell her he was going to get her a ticket for Christmas.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: It just felt, it felt really wrong.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: It felt out of character for some reason.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I wasn't into it, but you liked it.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: Those are no sparkly heart for us.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that wasn't no sparkly hurt for us.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: I liked the rocket.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that the symbolism there was really cool what I understand and agree with you on in not liking it is that it's out of context for
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: we don't get the context has to be told to us.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: And yes.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what we didn't like about a lot of season seven is that like they sort of pulling things out of nowhere that we were just like, where did this come from?
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, lots of that position to explain what was happening right in front of us instead of giving us something to rely on that maybe could have been a call back to something we had seen, which I think would have given us a deeper appreciation for a token like or a gift like the rocket, the rocket, the rocket, to match a purse.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, to match her broken bag, but I liked the symbolism.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: It just would have been a lot more substantiated.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: Had we seen them watch the twilight zone together, you know what I mean?
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or just yeah, pull from something that already existed.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing that I wrote down here, despite, you know, not writing anything in these episodes of what we would change, were plot lines and scenes that were recycled.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: And so I kind of want to take you through that.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: So in the long morrow, there is a scene with Babette and Lorelie and Paul Anca that is very similar
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: to this scene between Patty, Lorelie, and Paulinka in Partings.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know if that was just like, we're recycling this because Bebet is watching, Paulinka, while Lorelie, you know, I believe she was at Chris's or she's trying to figure out what to do.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: And it's giving the same energy that we had in the last scene.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I think we would have liked to see something different.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Luke once again is like all grumpy gills because he and Laura like have broken up and it's giving so good talk we're like no one will get the diner he's throwing people out of the diner and while I appreciate that being a through line for him and something that is just a characteristic that like when things are going wrong and his personal life i.e.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: with Laura lie he is going to be crabby we saw the same thing with Nicole
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: I am not wearing my socks.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that does seem like a trait of his, but it did feel a little like, okay, we're recycling this.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: Rory and Luke, wave at each other at one point, like the kind of guy who's very weird little wave, and it was giving so good talk when they break up the first time in season five, and then the limo.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Not usually limo, the limo.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: And then the whole traffic light camera thing, of course, were Kirk drives his car into the, or drives Taylor's car.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Taylor's car is the diner is giving red light on the wedding night.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so in no one crashes in red light on the way.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, why in installation of this new thing in town.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: So the red light.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I couldn't decide whether or not I liked it or whether I wish that something else had happened.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: But those were some things that we pointed out that felt like plot lines and scenes that were recycled instead of coming up with something a little newer, a little fresher.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's what you get folks for making Wipe.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: I know you and I both really didn't love the scene, the Asia scene.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: Or less that we didn't like it more that we wish there wasn't so much cultural preparation, which we didn't.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: We weren't sure if they were a super aware of when they wrote this episode back in, two thousand six, two thousand seven.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I think we would have shifted that.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anything that you would have done differently?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: I like the idea of her being like, I'm bringing Asia to you because you can go to Asia.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just say could have done it differently.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a lot of the things that it was really just like in the dialogue and the presentation of it.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like there was a way to have done it that wasn't quite
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: as offensive of like, it was really a lot of what they were saying.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: They could have presented that differently because I like the idea that she's trying to cheer her up.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I don't know that that's the best way to cheer her up though because she wanted to go with her boyfriend.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's different when your mom takes you to take your home.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: I get that.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: The next few episodes we really enjoyed compared to the first two episodes.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's first Catillian, it's wonderful, it's marvelous, the great stink and go bulldogs.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: And so I don't think we'd necessarily change anything throughout those.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't write anything down.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing I remember from the great stink really wanting to change was Logan, being like, hey, do you want to come to dinner tonight with me and my colleagues?
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that is the one thing I did right down for that episode was that we felt like it was kind of a plotline recycled where Logan wasn't clear about what their plans were and it subsequently gives Lori this impetus to be like, I was really confused and then he doesn't really understand or accept that like he messed up.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's giving like let's hang out in season five and she comes over and all the boys are there playing poker.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was very similar.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: What does he say?
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a very specific boy girl thing.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, but it feels like more intense in this one because they are together and he's not giving her any of the details.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then as she's explaining why she's confused by all of this, he's really pushing it back onto her and being like, I get it, you miss me.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, oh.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: I was really down.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: I start to downfall, float and hunts burger in season seven.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're not wrong.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: But that was, that was one of the things I wrote down because I was like, this was, I didn't love that.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember not knowing the way that
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: Logan kind of dismisses or a lot of people feel like he gas lights her in that moment in season five when he's like well I didn't think it was like a specific boy girl thing like I don't know you called I wanted to see you I said let's hang out you know like he kind of tells her why she was wrong to feel that way and that's something that I like don't do well with my life and circle yeah exactly and I felt like he did the same thing here
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then the only other thing which I mentioned in our recap that I really wish they had pulled at this thread a little bit more and go bold dogs, which I thought was a fantastic episode.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we loved that one.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I really wish that we they had implemented Harvey, the produce guy, the vegetable guy, and just a piece of storyline.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that would have just
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Not that we needed like in a fair or anything.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: And nothing to fair else.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: I just me was a vegetable affair.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, the conflict of it.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think would have injected like new life into the Sukey Jackson storyline that didn't stress the in like, yeah, just like the overall vibes that we are missing that like, you know, like season one.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Man, probably the veggie guy.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: I really wish we had seen more of him.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was a really good storyline and you know, I'm glad it was it was in that story.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: I just wish it wasn't isolated to that episode.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I wish you could have pulled it a little more.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think though that if they would have pulled out it, they would have pulled out it too hard.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, these writers?
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:33[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to talk to them.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: I like it too.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: Not like we're going to read this whole list to you.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, just in a like, how did, how did y'all and metal?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: How did this go?
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that brings us to French twist, which I have the most notes on here is what we would.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: change.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I know we're going to talk about it a little later because one of the biggest what ifs and I'm sure also was a big suggestion in rewrites comes from lower line Christopher's relationship and of course if I'm getting married in Paris.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: But here's what I wrote down that we would change.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: Chris and Laura live should have seen Sherry and Sherry should have given Laura the reassurance that Anna couldn't give her in rejegy and Chris.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sherry could have also set up their dinner reservation that they slept through.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: Because we felt like, I don't know, there's just the whole storyline there was really disjointed.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: I wish they literally went there.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: Sherry, to give Gigi to Sherry.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: So no, don't see Sherry felt weird.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it would have been really interesting to see Sherry almost give her blessing to Laura and I in a way that Anna was incapable of doing to kind of juxtapose those things.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what that necessarily would have done.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: For the storyline on the whole, but in the moment, Laura, I feeling like Christopher was offering her something that Luke couldn't.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think that it would have pushed it that a little bit harder.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe maybe believe more that that is why she agrees to marry him right there in Paris.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I also feel like there is an element of that storyline of them in Paris that feels really dull.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how did you guys go to Paris and make it really dull?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: And it's probably because it's all in tears except when they're walking down that one street and they're yelling at the breadman.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: um that I feel like adding in cherry could have added like a dynamicness to the story overall and there's that one cut scene that we don't know what it is that we're talking to that market yeah but yeah but it would have been interesting to see her yeah and to have her again offer something to the storyline because it is a similar
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: Not the same, but a similar situation where Chris is now dealing with co-parenting, with Sherry, international co-parenting.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's very complicated.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: And Laura, I felt very excluded from that.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: when it came to Luke and Anna.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: And to feel more welcomed in, I think would have made it more understandable why they just spontaneously decided to get married in Paris and why she felt so confident that with Chris it would be different.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: And like she could see that between the two of them, she was being welcomed into this.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Which I think was the insinuation is that she was being more welcomed into this, especially given the conversations that she and Chris have when it comes to G.G.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: leading up to French twist.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like with the letter, like this immediately shows her the letter from Sherry as she assumes that he's going to be hiding it.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: And so we're like building up to that idea that this is going to be very similar to her last relationship.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I would have loved like more touch points to indicate that it's not to really push her over the edge to get married.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I completely agree.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think it would have been a little bit more.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: It just feels so random and I think that it would have made the episode on the whole a lot brighter, a lot more active because it just like you said, feels like it's a ton of interiors.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of them just yapping at each other and I'm like, give me some invention.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, oh, it was good to see Sherry.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, show me Sherry.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: Stop like talking.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I really didn't love about season seven is that they talk about a lot of characters or they're on the phone with characters that we never actually see.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, show them to me.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: Give me the story.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: Show yourself.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Would you have accepted it?
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like this storyline.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: If they couldn't get the original Sherry.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh, yeah.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Go, Sherry.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: No, I would have hated fake Sherry.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Fairy.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: Fairy.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that was part of the conflict.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: Is they wanted Sherry there, but they couldn't get her.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I get it.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: Very fair.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: Fairy.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: Fairy, if you will.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: Be it.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: Next thing I wrote down here.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm actually going to go out of order a little bit because, um,
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think at the end of this episode is when we get a twist in and of itself.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: But first, Rory goes with Lucy and Olivia to start's hollow and she has a breakdown.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so I wrote down, Rory's breakdown is so relatable because she's of course like, what am I going to do next?
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: Post call it.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is when they die their hair and they're at the Gilmour's house, the Gilmour girls' house, rather.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: In Star's Hollow, and I said, worries breakdown is so relatable, but the way we get there is super clunky.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: She invites Lucy and Olivia to her house where there are so many opportunities to reminisce on race successes as she starts navigating college, coming to a close and freaking out about what's next.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Lucy and Olivia could have also come to the table with ways they're freaking out instead of being like, yeah, us too.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm freaking out too.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: No, I thought.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's genuinely what they do.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, do you think that we're not freaking out too, Rory?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're freaking out.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: We're freaking out.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, because this could have like easily been like in the flashback scene that she has like the near the end of this season when she's at Chilton.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's exactly what they're wanting us to feel is that like she hit her peak and caught her in high school and that they are now asking her to leave in her nightmare version of it because she's not meant to be there.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like everything she built for was not actually going to happen.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I would have loved to see that like fear manifest
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: like in reality and not just in a dream world and the total like set up was to have two people who did not grow up with you come to your house and be like, whoa, you were like, very smart.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to be fair, they go to Yale too, so they were also very smart, but it's just like, it's yeah, they can reflect on it, cause worries that main character.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: I wish that we had seen more of that.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going through her house and being like, wait, you were valedictorian?
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, this is amazing.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: You're so cool.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: Or things like that.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just reminiscing on her high school years where she felt like she was so self-assured.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: And now she's sitting amidst this very new territory for her, which is the storyline.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's the thread they pull at for the remainder of the season with hers.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: That worries a little lost.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so I would have
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think I would have had a deeper appreciation, because again, this breakdown is so understandable, and we talk about that in the Patreon that it's like, it's so understandable to feel like, shit, where am I going?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh my god, yeah, I think college is crazy, and a high school is crazy, but worry always felt a sense of direction, now she doesn't anymore.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, that's relatable, but you have to give us the right tools to make that relatable.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I feel like it's like honestly any age.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like worries breakdown of like, I don't know what I'm doing with my life is like, it could be any of us could be us right now.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, luckily I do know what I'm doing with my life.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, but I, I do appreciate a nice breakdown every now and then.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we all need a little.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll never break down.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: Always good for.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Always good for.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it works wonders for girls.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: But that leads us to the end of the episode.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're of course, we are reintroduced to Marty.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: We've been.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: And when you said the big twist, I was like, wait, what?
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: We've got French and we've got twist.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: We certainly do.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: So here's the thing is that we took a lot of issue, of course, as a lot of people did with Marty in season seven.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: But here's how we feel like it could have made a little bit of sense if they chose to bring him back because the twist of him being Lucy's boyfriend is clever, like excellent.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: Don't mind it at all.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's the way they then went about executing it.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: So this is what I wrote down.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: We would have loved for Marty to go by a new nickname or something like Martin instead of boyfriend.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: Or that was his, yeah, not like him.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's far away with a nickname.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's serious now.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Lucy is calling him Martin.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: And so she's like, last name we said.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: Or by his last name, something like that, if we don't know, which we don't know is last name.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: So that the reason behind him pretending not to know where he would have made sense because he has now reinvented himself.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like post worry Gilmore.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've reinvented myself.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm feeling good.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I want to start over.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to start over.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: I want to remember the days when I was not naked guy, like, I'm a new guy, which is why.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a clothed guy.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a clothed guy.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: They call him clothes.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's always got clothes on.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's always got clothes on.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the thing is that, like, I think that it would have made more sense.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: And it would have made Marty look like less of a douchebag if he was like, well, yeah.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: I have spent the last two years, like, really getting away from the naked guy.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm just trying to start over, so let's start over.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why he's pretending not to know her.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Because if that's the road you want to take, fine, but you can't make him look like a bleak douche as he does it.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Because for all intents and purposes, we talked about how Marty was always like the pick me guy, you know, and like, oh, I'm always the nice guys finish last kind of trope, but it's like it didn't have to be that way.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of gets
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: It gets amplified in season seven.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that had we left him where he was in season five.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: We would have maybe felt bad for him.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then like, oh man, sorry, Marty, that's a bummer.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: But this just makes him look like an asshole.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but what about me?
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a nice guy.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, well, clearly you're not.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, actually not.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like I know how I do.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like you're a nice guy.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: The other part of it that I wondered about is why Lucy doesn't know who her is.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like if you have this kind of like not even breakup, but just like situation where you thought you liked to grow, because he stalked Lucy into a relationship.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's like, I feel like that would come up that it's like, how have you ever, like, has this ever worked before?
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like he didn't really stalk, Rory.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: They like became friends.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then that, I don't know, I just feel like maybe it would have come up at some point that like there's a score Rory.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: He liked her.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: She liked another guy.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: He was such a douche.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: hated him and like it really messed him up something like that that like totally she she would learn about that if they would have been together for a period of time I agree up and he's like this is where I would have liked that more of like of like like you know worry this is for you and it's like your glory worry you're very very good yeah yeah that would have been really interesting um...
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just something else.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like this writing, again, it was like a lot of season seven to me or a good amount of season seven because there were some storylines that I'm like, why did we go in this direction?
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part, on the whole, it's that they had good bones, but they didn't know like what to do with them.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't know how to get a house.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: And again, she kicked.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, kind of moving into introducing Lauraly Planetarium, we
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: wrote down like for this lots of setup, no vibes, all interior scenes.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like we want a more outside scenes, or transition scenes.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: Transitions, something that gave us like the Gilmore Girls vibes, because even when we had like a lot of setup and no vibes episodes and seasons one through six, it still felt like Gilmore Girls.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think we needed more of that energy.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: But plot lines that we felt were kind of recycled or revisited is this is, of course, when when we get let them drink cosmos.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the article that Rory writes about the party, the party that she goes to.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like judging all these rich people exactly.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's giving kind of this like die jerk revisited energy.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: And Logan's speech is also kind of giving like, why did you drop out of Yale energy?
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that was horrible though.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, every time I think about that, like, after, I don't think I would be in a relationship with them.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: No, after that happened.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: But then they come back and she's like, I like your hair and he's like, I like your teeth.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: We're together again.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: No one's mad.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: No one's mad.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: But then on that topic, on the topic of Logan, we get no backstory or explanation on why he's now living in New York.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: This is where the confusion of Logan really truly begins.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're like, why are you here?
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: You going to London was actually like a huge plot point.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: And now you've erased it.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: And for what?
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: We cried.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: We cried when you hobbled to the, it's true.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: You mentioned it.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: And there was no real explanation.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is episode eight.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: We're too far into this.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: Truly the other component to this that was just a giant question mark is why Luke calls Laura lie about April's appendix?
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: And she shows up to the hospital and we also talked about how Chris was like totally fine with her going and then suddenly isn't fine with Luke later.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: That was also just kind of disjointed and weird.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: But when
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: When he calls her, I just need a more impetus as to why he calls her.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then when she does arrive at the hospital and they're there, the doctor comes out and is like, oh, you and your wife, and it's like, oh, she's not my wife, and she sees her wedding ring.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: And it's giving, like, Emily seeing lower lies, engagement ring at Roy's twenty first birthday party.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: and when she's engaged to Luke she's engaged to Luke.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: So that was kind of like I couldn't tell if that was a recycled plot or a recycled scene or more of like a parallel moment, a very weird way.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: I also wanted to give a little bit of like a yeah I was going to say it's like maybe more of like a cliche of like someone sees your ring and you're like oh I am I am married.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't mean if you to find out this way like that kind of thing.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what, a rewrite that would have been super easy for Luke is to just press one on a speed dial.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like he was like, it was the easiest person to call was loyal.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: She's one because she's number one because she's so just like not even thinking about it and I kind of I kind of see that like I kind of see that like In a moment of crisis the first person he thinks to call his lower lie.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: I wish there had been something that
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: let up to that because like the last time you guys talked you were an asshole you were so fucking rude to that woman yeah so there's that part of it that i i kind of like go back and forth on kind of on the fence about that because i can see the thought process
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: If it had been like the first episode, but like so much time has passed and you've been so mean to her, and we don't even know that you're still pining for her because that scene got deleted from the great stink.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: But then as we move into knit people knit, you know, we also feel like some Lulu scenes are a little clunky, but a lot of what we're moving into is this whole.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Introduction of the custody battle with, you know, we didn't love, we thought was really drab and dark and and turned to the show into more of a drama than it needed to.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, but I think that's the reason why that scenes.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just think that's the reason why they like had Laura like going to the hospital to like remind us that like she's a mother and like she's gonna care about his mother.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: Luke and his custody and you know all of that, but it's just kind of like,
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I just felt like there was a better way to introduce, like to, I don't know, I just didn't understand why they had to bring Laura like in to the hospital.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: I guess it was to, it was an excuse for to like reintroduce her into this for the custody battle and also for Luke to now know that she and Chris are married.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that that was what was confusing about it is because it didn't have like a direct path from it that where we reminding the audience that like Luke and Laura, I should be together and she'll always show up for him and he'll always call upon her and she'll call upon him and they'll show up regardless what has happened between them.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_00]: Or is it, yeah, to like reintroduce this idea that Laura, like, is really dependable and someone who always show up for him and means the custody battle and the
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: Recommendate.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: What is it?
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: The character reference of say the recommendation letter.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: I recommend him as a father.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think that it did a good job with the former aspect of it, like the rekindling of the romance of like showing that they're meant to be together.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like I felt like that kind of came out of the blue later on.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: It really relied on our understanding and our desire for them to be together, I think.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: I can see how they were like, yeah, she's going to be someone who's going to show up for him.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: Let's bring her into the custody battle.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I, maybe this isn't retrospect, and I felt very differently during the watching of this.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the custody battle could have been better if they would have just lightened things up a bit.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: There's a custody battle room for lightness and levity and how he is.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: Probably like there's so many things that like in this show, like that they can button with something that can like lighten the mood that
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: There's something that can happen that like a character acts in such a way that in that situation is situationally funny or just dialogue that's clever, but it just we enter into this like bleakness like his lawyer is just useless you will lose.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, okay, well, I'm not going to, but it's not because of you.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: Also didn't like it.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: I would have taken him out.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Jim, Jim McNally.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there's an aspect to it to, like, even his lawyer knew Anna's lawyer.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there could have been, they could have played off it there.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there's so many elements of it that, like, serious things happen in Gilmore Girls.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is one of the more serious things to happen.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's a custody battle.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I still think that there's a way to do it that
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: didn't feel quite so harsh.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: No, I totally agree.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: And humorless and just totally, totally from a completely different CW show.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I totally agree with that.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that like in some ways it was heading that way in season six, but I wonder if
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: Amy would have done that.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if Amy would have implemented this custody battle.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: See, that's, that's the thing is a lot of people's, like, what ifs that they submitted in the Instagram question box where what if Amy and Dan had written it?
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, I don't know, Garly.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have to ask them a big question mark.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: And, like, they'll never answer because, like, she said before that she doesn't want to, like, step upon season seven despite the fact that she did not like it.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like because she didn't write it and it's not the story that she would have done, but I don't think she's going to nitpick it because just like professionally, it would be quite rude to go back through this show that you wrote the first six seasons out and just say what you would have changed.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: So we would love it.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: We would love it.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the answer is.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: I would have liked to say that there would have been something not quite as harsh.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: That was the case.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it might have been more interesting for them to try and figure it out on their own, like to knock at the courts involved.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: That word.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: That word.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's not really the chord.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: Mediation room.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Professor Bell is the bailiff.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: The judge, the judge.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: No, I totally agree.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: Going back to the Marty storyline, something we talked about here is wondering why Paris didn't spill the beans at the party.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: The wait.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I was going to party.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm so surprised that they didn't utilize the fact that she knew Marty and like why would that not have come out at the party at Lucy's birthday party?
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I think that this could have been set up way earlier, actually, and we didn't talk much about wonderful Marvelists, but that's when she met them.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when she said, oh, we knew this girl who worked for the paper, Paris Gallery, like we're obsessed with her.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think that it's like we know someone who used to know her.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then we meet Marty, and it's like, oh, oh, this is the person that they know that you snow Paris.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: And they're obsessed with her because this person, like, not introduced it, but like made us aware of this person and how like insane she is and like he doesn't like her.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have to go that, and depth into it.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: We find her fascinating.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so when we get to that point, it's like, yeah, and like, the pair's no pairs using a scroll.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you used to know her through the scroll.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: That, uh, like, I don't know, maybe there's something.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I could totally see.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: I could totally see Lucy being like, we know someone who knows someone.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: We know someone who knew someone who is best friends with Paris Galler, like a long time ago.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: Or we know someone who knew someone, but they don't know each other anymore.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: But that person knew Paris Galler.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then like, I can always see Lucy saying that.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, okay.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 36:56[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then you find out not even that obvious, but then like when we get to the point where like, oh, Marty was the connection.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: And like it just seems like because they like are so into Paris that like Marty would have brought that up at some point.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: A hundred percent.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so I just think that could have been an interesting little connection.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: But when Paris doesn't say anything about Marty,
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: They were so cool.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: She, like, they totally had a really hilariously punchy relationship.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm really surprised that they didn't utilize that.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: That, like, there wasn't.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if it would have felt a little too sick.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: Come for Paris to be like, hey, Marty, what's up?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, you know, Marty?
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, yeah, of course I know, Marty.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: And like, you know, for that could have been on the match.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's amazing.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, they could have done something to that effect.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm really surprised that they didn't.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: I would have liked that more than Logan getting involved because, um, the whole idea.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, like, I just like the whole idea that like Marty was still into Rory because when they're like drunk or whatever, sitting on the couch and he's like, and you're more beautiful than ever.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just like, ugh.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's just so annoying because like Logan should be way more confident than that and be like, yeah, you are gorgeous.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, fuck him.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's so weird for him to say to my girlfriend.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's so confident.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: And it's so funny because later he's very confident in the crush.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, in the crush that she has on the TV.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, yeah, I don't care.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Tell him like, why do you care so deeply about Marty?
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: I guess because he had a friendship, but I just cannot see Logan being jealous of or threatened by Marty.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of the answer to each other.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: I like you know.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: I like Logan and famously.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's like not made a parent.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's very much implied that he's jealous until the next episode.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think it's Mary Fisticuffs that they go to have Indian food.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's in the next episode that we learned that like he apologized because he was jealous.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, why?
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, A team is jealous of like the Z team?
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: So weird.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: So moving into Mary Fisty Cuffs, of course.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like we talk about how this is a really tough watch.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: But um, someone was really hard.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: Someone was really hard.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: But one of the things we really wish that we had seen was, you know, Emily kind of sensing some things might be off between Chris and Laura Ly, prompts her to take this a visit.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: And we have like a Emily jumpscare.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's sitting in the dark on her porch.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: She would now be sitting on that on that bench on the porch.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not she'd wait in her car, but I just wish that we would have gotten maybe from Emily like a I think you maybe You may want to reconsider your marriage or something to that effect when that make Lorelife fight harder I think so too Yeah, like
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't make a mistake.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: You're the one that's been saying to me for years that I belong with Chris and now Emily's like your dream.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I mean, I think Emily's perspective on that shifted over the years.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously we saw what she did in wedding bell blues or rather come home.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that over the years she's understood that like Chris is not
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: necessarily the one for Lorelei, and it would have been really interesting for her to come to that conclusion before Lorelei did.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_00]: I would have loved that.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: I also would have loved because famously, and come home, she says, I've never thought much of you, that, and I think that's kind of true.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to recognize that when it comes to being a husband and being a partner, that it's like, well, you're no Richard.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: You're more on the Howard spectrum of that if we're quoting Gamarko's only, that I just, yeah, I don't see that as something that she would have maybe held onto just for the sake of holding onto it for decorum sake, if you will.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think she would have, the whole point if we're going there was two.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: like give her a little pep talk.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like like, my hair just hard.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: You need to work harder.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: I go back and forth on that actually because then it would admit that Laura, I was doing it right.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: That like I kind of wish she would have been like you're both messing this up.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've been good.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm like, I'm un- I'm un- I'm un- I'm un- I'm un- I'm torn on it and I'm curious, but I guess she's happy to say about that because I- I get because I want that.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: I want from her.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: I want- I want Emily to go to her and be like, this isn't a stake.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what are you doing?
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: But is that too long?
- 41:46[SPEAKER_00]: But knows.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: But, or is that true to her character?
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: And how she sees her life?
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: Here he is.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: Careous for the last time.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: As we move into Santa Secret stuff, we had a lot to say about how we would have rewritten this scene.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_01]: And the whole mechanism of Luke asking Laura lie to write this reference letter.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, we proposed the idea of Rory writing the letter instead of Laura lie because Rory saw Luke as kind of a father figure throughout her life that it may have
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: been an interesting plot point.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been a lot, you know, obviously just different circumstances, but Luke going to the relay and being like, hey, I'd really love for worried to write this reference letter.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: A lot, hey, I really want worried to tutor Jess.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but different, but different because she just wanted him.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: He just wanted just to pass school.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's glasses.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: He wants it, otter.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: His daughter specifically.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: But it is, it does have to do with him being kind of a father figure in both capacities in a much more real capacity here and worry kind of, you know, sweeping into save the day.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would have been interesting and it would have been a really interesting
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, stands for Laura Lie to take on like, and I would have understood more of Chris being threatened by that, by being like, oh, finding that letter.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: That worry had more of a father figure in her life than me.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: We saw this in Go Bulldogs in a very different capacity that he realizes how absent he was.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that I would have enjoyed seeing a little bit of that play out.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: But knowing where they choose to take it and that lower light writes this letter.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't love the way that loop just kind of like shows up at the end and is like, hey, will you write this letter?
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: But we thought maybe, thank you.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: You want to write a letter for me?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the good things.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like it just, it's weird.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: What I wrote down here is that it would have been really interesting if Laura like had run into Luke in town, like at Doseys or something.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, they're kind of like awkwardly like, oh, hey, how are you?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what's going on?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, oh, well, I'm in the middle of this custody battle and she's like, what?
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, they kind of get to talking and
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: He either like, she either volunteers to write the letter like very inadvertently the way Laura Light does where she'll she'll just like blurt something out.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I could see her being like, well, if you need like a reference, you know, I'm happy to.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then she goes back to Suki and is like, I, why did we just volunteer for this?
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: But if to play on that, like add to it, the person that he did ask for the reference initially was Liz, I think it would have been interesting to have
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: her run into Luke and Liz.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: And Liz be like, this is what I've included in like, more like being like, oh, okay.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't sound so good.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe just being like, if you need someone else,
- 44:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm happy to tell you about.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then Luke shows up at the end, like, yeah, I like to see what she was going to include.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like to take you up on your offer.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, kind of a thing.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I just think I needed more nuance instead of him just randomly coming to the end.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, I need to talk to you.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you want to write a letter?
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a way.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: And like, we didn't love the montage.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: It was the hand that you put up.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's wearing a glove.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: You want to write a letter?
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: Let me get your pen.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: We've got magic to do.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know why I'm thinking the kids.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: We've got magic to do.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: So funny.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: But um, yeah, you know, I...
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that just there could have been more nuance than the approach to this instead of this montage of Lourlay.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like instantly agreeing to write the letter kind of having and hoying over it and like not knowing how to read it.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: The montage was weird.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't really talk about it with Suki.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: I was she would have like told Luke, you know, he was gonna approach it this way and just show up to her work and ask her to do this after everything they've been through.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: If she had been like, I need to think about it.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, okay.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: And she goes, yeah, talks to Suki or at or worry does a pro con less.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know what I mean?
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: And like, links on like, you know, maybe the end of the episode is like, I'm gonna do this.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: I also would have loved for her to have been like, yeah, all right, it.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: Something gets it to Suki and Suki's like, yeah, but totally hire him for a job.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_00]: I would not let him have a child.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's like, what is this?
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: And like, there's some elements of it that, uh, worry starts talking about.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, I'm having a hard time discerning what we talked about because we talked about this for a while and we didn't turn episode.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_00]: What we would want to see differently and so I forget what actually happened versus what we talked about.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: But I like the idea of like Rory talking about Luke and like what kind of person he was and oh, no, no, no.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't the episode because they go see um
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: They go to the mall and they see April and Luke, talking about like the presence that Luke gave her and like kind of again inspiring that like Luke already was a father figure in her world.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: So would have left to have seen that sort of like transition, like seeing the bad version of her letter of like Luke's great.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: Luke lives in my town to something more heartfelt.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like that, but just like something to build up to it rather than just being like, write me a letter.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, give me a sec.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: I just thought that yeah, I just thought that that was so
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: quick and again, she kicked.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: She kicked.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I really, that was another moment because Gigi was in there when they were talking about it.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: And the idea that this like four or five year old, however, this girl is supposed to be reasonable.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: She actually is, um, she would totally bring it up because we were like talking that she would just like repeat like, Luke Daines, stand up guy.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like saying that to her dad, I would have loved to see that because they,
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: They get Gigi right.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think that she has some good lines.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: She has some good dialogue.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: But like to think that that child would sit there quietly and just say some of the sides throughout their conversation wrong.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: Someone else is hearing like the full extent of what she had totally totally.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like those writers have never been around to child that young.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, but some of them are really funny.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: As we move into to whom it may concern which of course concerns the entire letter and we famously really didn't like this episode.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things, of course we talk about this is the fisectomy and talking about how we could have rewritten that it may be the fisectomy didn't work.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: Anything but him not actually getting the fisectomy in lying to his wife would have been great.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: But as you mentioned some levity in the custody battle,
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that what we needed was more of a layer cake more nuanced and complexity to Anna so that she doesn't come across such an asshole in this episode because she totally does.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: She's just so mean and it's like how did we get here?
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: How did we get to mean?
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't need to get to mean.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_00]: And in part because, you know what I mean?
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: How did we get here?
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: How did the Google Maps take us to here?
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I think fit in part because what they're talking about in the custody battle is that he works at a diner.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: He owns the diner as what he says.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: And at some point, April expresses that she is proud of it or not April Anna because she was there when this was starting.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how we went from that there to that.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to be fair, custody battle, like the worst of someone is gonna come out, like your worst opinion of them, in order for you to get what you want.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_00]: It reminded me of a revival when Paris was selling worry.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: She could mention that he felt her up at the Christmas party in the deposition.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: So, there's like that aspect of it.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, there's just, it just felt really,
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: out of the blue that she was that angry, but this was after he showed up at her house and like yelled her, I will fight you in.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's something we also wanted to change was like the way this custody battle was introduced.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: The way that Anna just so flippantly is like, hey, so we're gonna move to New Mexico.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, thanks so much for everything.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like he was the babysitter.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like he was her babysitter.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was just so funny.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: Not funny, like bad.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: It just sucks.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: Funny in a bad way.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: Funny in a bad way.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that's kind of everything that we would have changed in that regard.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there were some scenes that were recycled.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: We felt like spinning dinner into the napkin is so classic.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: Suki, not knowing she's pregnant, acting like Kuki Suki as we called her.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: We're like kind of having to pep talk Suki into being a mom as she has had to do in the past.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: Chris finding the letter felt very much like Emily Gilmore finding the carbon from grand.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but not nearly as good, but as we move into it, rather be in Philadelphia.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: We really start to see the caricature nature of some of the townies specifically Bebet.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: We felt like that was really a caricature of herself in this episode.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: And it could like she always brings that levity and comedic relief.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is kind of what we're talking about.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather be in Philadelphia, of course, as a serious episode, because Richard is in the hospital and what's more serious than being in hospital.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, a custody battle is probably up there.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I was like, she's being in the hospital because he died.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's also true.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's more serious.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: I guess if we're elevating.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the character nature comes out in Bebette coming to the diner to tell Luke that Richard is in the hospital.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I had forgotten about this.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_00]: I forgot about this because when we said it felt like she there was a invisible gunman behind her.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: Having said this to Luke because like the way she says it, she says it like she's at gunpoint.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that like she's
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's such an odd delivery.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: This so easily could have been fixed by Luke over here in a conversation.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we went down.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we went down.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: Anyone.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: Patty Amba, bad, for example.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_01]: They could have been talking about it at the diner and he's like, hey guys, what's going on?
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, oh, uh, this is a little awkward, but are like even just like Laura lies in the hospital?
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, sometimes dad.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_01]: Dad is in the hospital.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and like it could have been resolved with some just some a little bit of
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you thoughts.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: And like I could even like imagine that like they're like, this comes about like, oh, yeah, like you April was just in the hospital, like maybe did this dish.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_00]: She's at the same line.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: And it reminds us that like Laura, I showed up for Luke.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_00]: And he's out for her to.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's just like, I think that that's the thing is like, there's a lot of suddenness to people's actions that like, if they would have just had a little bit more rooted heart to it, that it's like, I'm doing this thing because of this thing.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not just doing things willy-nilly because I have free will.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_00]: Because you know, I free will on a TV show.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: You like need to rooted in something for us.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: See it.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just disappointed that the writers didn't go, well, how is Luke going to find out?
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: How could he find out in a way that feels natural to the story and in a way that feels natural to go more roles and said they were like, we're going to have to.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_01]: I bet walking.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_01]: Eyes wide.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: Hands up.
- 53:29[UNKNOWN]: Luke.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: I have to tell him.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have to tell you this.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: Don't have to tell him anything, actually.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, he's going to find out some other way.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: It just felt so forced and I think that that just added to the laundry list of reasons why season seven feels like a character that's out of character.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, as we go to farewell my pet, we've talked about this in our season seven recap that we really wish this was a townies episode.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: We wish that they wouldn't have mocked me shells loss so much.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: We felt like that was out of character for lore life, especially having a dog having Paulink over the hill was here at the funeral and that they should have been more focused on the funeral, but it was because
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: two episodes later we're getting, will you be my Laura?
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, go more.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: That is a big townies episode.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, I did.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_00]: And because a lot of this episode is because her and Chris have since broken up.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_00]: Just, thus the night four, but like I think this would have been like a really good town coming together for me, shall.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: We'll do our great together in this episode.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what I'm saying is like she's really distracted and that's yeah, she's being a little bit crappy about it all.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: But like you're telling me that Babbat would not show up for this like it's like I would have loved a recycled cinnamon's wake.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm listening to it part two for it is a chin chin or bow bow.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: We don't remember.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's ginger.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: But like I love that Zach learns Celine Dion.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's so cute.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: I love that everyone's dogs come.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_00]: I love that what I makes it mandatory for the staff to come.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: But I just really think that like the town would have come through.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: I agree and I understand because we're gonna get like will you be my Laura?
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like Gilmore and Hey Balmays, but Hey Balmays is also to both town even.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, especially because that's quite literally what Gilmore, like part of what the foundation of Gilmore girls is.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: But by the time we get to Hey Balmays, you know, because we don't even really need to talk about.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Gilmore goes only will you be my lower like Gilmore.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_01]: We loved the only thing we didn't have was Logan conflict and we're also not loving Logan for honestly the remainder of the season.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: So let's just pick up to a whole episode rewriting just Logan in season seven and honestly we could and I'm so mad at the man.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so mad at him.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know I was rooting for you me
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: She is Tyra Banks and don't you forget it.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that I'm looking at Pittsburgh's Tyra Banks.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that on the whole by the time we get to Hablemese, the townies felt like set dressing.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't feel like characters.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: They were like, well, you'd be my lure like Elmore, but in fair while my pet and Hablemese, we could have implemented them more.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I understand them more.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_01]: Also moving towards Bon voyage, which is also like a town effort.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 56:04[SPEAKER_01]: Use the town.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_00]: Use the town.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: You're failing everywhere else, use the town.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was kind of harsh, but... No, but sorry.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_01]: And we also felt like Logan needed to meet more of the town in this episode.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was too much disjoininess as separation.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like why was he so separated and isolated from everybody else in town?
- 56:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was the whole fucking point of him coming to Star's Hollow.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_00]: This man was so fascinated with Taylor Docey.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: When a town meeting comes up, the fact that he's not like, let's go.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I want to see Taylor Docey.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: or it's like maybe maybe the town meeting comes up and then he learns more about Taylor and they show up at the town meeting where Laura likes that's like what are you guys doing here he wanted to see Taylor do see that's he just wants to see your new sentence that anyone has ever said but I love like the idea of Logan treating Taylor do see the way that Lucy and Olivia treat periscolor like this is a celeb for them this is a celebrity is hiding also he would have loved Taylor do see would have loved feeling like a celebrity is on town because he views himself as a celebrity
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, Logan would have donated to some cause.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: But that was the Christian.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_00]: Not in the way the Christian then did a fawn.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: He would have gone to the grocery store and bought everything high end.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like that sort of thing.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like Taylor's baggings.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: His groceries they leave and like for some reason, Taylor and Logan are like best house.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_00]: Just best.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like the weirdest thing that could have ever happened.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_01]: It is very confused.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: I also would have added in a movie night to that one.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: Logan needed a movie night.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is what I wrote down here, too.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: More Gilmoral vibes moving.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: He needed to get the Max Medina treatment.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, you know, what an interesting.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_00]: I would have loved a parallel between Kiss and Tell and Haybell Maze with Lorelei and Dean in Loreline Logan, like kind of like the
- 57:50[SPEAKER_00]: What are your intentions of my daughter?
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: Totally to kind of like build up to that.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not quite so out of the blue, shut in at the end of Lorelie, Lorelie.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he says something to her that has her like on her on on a work like like he says something that alludes to it and then boy comes back in and she's like
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Logan watched, two thousand seven, totally, totally.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's just like writing a bike, which was the last episode I have notes on as far as what we would change because, I mean, the last three episodes, we kind of talked about this in a season seven recap.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you can sense what we would like to change especially Haley.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just like writing a bike.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_01]: We really didn't love the Suki Jackson storyline.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think that, you know,
- 58:39[SPEAKER_01]: Basically what it was, it was the dollhouse.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, where he fell in the dollhouse.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: He will, she, her kids have the chicken pox.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's ever had the chicken pox.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_00]: So she's someone who, I don't remember if they work with kids or if they work with children in a medical field.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_00]: that the contagion would have already, like the contagion period, already would have existed.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_00]: He would have had the contagion.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_00]: That like it was too late that like he would have spread it to Lorolye's house.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like this friend, like, prevent the spread would have been way out the door.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, I can pull that aside as well.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_01]: But within the narrative, that's what they're going with, and he has to stay, or he is going to stay at a hotel at the end, something, and Laura lie insists that he stays at her house, and so he's like, he's going to break things, and he's going to leave his stuff all over the place.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, she is really mad at him, and it comes out.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: In a conversation with them, which again is like very clunky, that like she's still not a him because of the fisectomy.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like just talking to me about this, like we have to get past this.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, you know, I get it, but I also just felt like, okay, the the fisectomy storyline was like,
- 59:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I had like forgotten episodes ago.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not isolated to season seven that things happen like that because it reminds me of like when Suki and Jackson got engaged and we didn't find out about it until or rather we didn't find out about Laura Lai knowing about it for several episodes.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't until Emily came to start's hollow that that episode was where we
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_00]: because we never saw a lower light-learn that's who he was engaged.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: So like this storyline kind of disappeared for a second and then popped back up.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_00]: So you did the storyline for a second.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_00]: I get you.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then I saw a lot in a lot of TV shows, not just this one.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_00]: But this one specifically, like it could have been completely lifted out and had really no bearing on the storyline as a whole.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_00]: Or they could have resolved it within that episode.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but instead of I know that it's a very heavy topic to be resolved but like bringing it back here was just like it just felt so I actually thought the doll house like dialogue and everything that happens there really made me laugh like when Laura like comes back and they're sitting on her porch and she's like we have to tell you something
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like it really made me laugh.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of loved that Suki was treating Jackson like he was her third child because he kind of acts like it's sometimes.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but not, but recently this is not like him in the past.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it's it's they've only kind of dumped him down to child status.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, he's having to be parented this.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_01]: Totally.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_01]: But to that, a lot of what we really didn't like about, it's just like running a bike, even though we rated it pretty mid, middle of the road.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_01]: There were some, there were some parts of the episode that we really liked.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: There were so many one-sided phone calls that made no sense whatsoever.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_01]: So random.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_01]: It was just we were watching one person talk to not the other person and we were so confused just to why especially when it came to Lorelie and Luke Luke who is in the episode Luke who is like like also Jackson who's in the episode.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes Jackson Carl Suki
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, what happened?
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then we immediately go to Lorelei having a one-sided phone call with Luke, who we've also already seen in the end.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's so weird.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's so easy.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_00]: So so weird.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they weren't, didn't have enough time contracted and they're contract to be in more that episode.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_00]: But maybe they ran out of time shooting.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_00]: They ran out of the time because they were riding the bike.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_00]: Apparently so.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that's the thing is that I feel like on the whole season seven could have taken a lot of the time they spent on these like one-sided phone calls, really dragging out some scenes like, you know.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_01]: off the top of my head, it's like, you know, in the Paris episode in French twist, it's like a lot of yappin when it's like you could have given us a lot more action, a lot more story.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_01]: Well, this show is a lot of yappin, but it is, it's fast.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not, it's not short to talk fast.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_01]: the slogan correct there was just so much air in this season that could have been filled with and that's why we wanted to take you know everything that already existed and again the bones that they laid out for us and be like how could we have built this foundation differently in a way that maybe season seven wouldn't have felt as bad I'm not saying that we're like you know completely fixing it but I do think a lot of what we just expanded on we're easy fixes and things that could have actually made the story a little bit more interesting and a little less bland
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she cake a little more layered.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I'm really curious as we kind of went through all this if any of these aligned with some of the rewrites that our listeners wanted to.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_01]: Also contribute to the story.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_00]: One hundred percent.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: I absolutely love our besties because y'all are just some of you had very serious answers.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you are just comedians.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_01]: I love you so much.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait to read them to you.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_00]: So the question, I think that I have to pose the question that I pose in order for some of them to feel like they make complete sense.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to scroll through them because I have, I've got my iPad here to scroll on.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I said, what would you change slash cut, slash remove slash delete, slash rewrite, slash alter slash toss at the window of a moving vehicle from some of the way that's Maria's.
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_00]: The first one we've got the whole season.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_00]: So many people just said everything, all of it, get rid of everything.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'd toss everything out the window, understanding that same vein, multiple people also said the writers.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_00]: So that...
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, speaks volumes.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_00]: It does speak volumes.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, everyone.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_00]: I started suffering because the very next one was something changing something from season six.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I will be skipping that one because they wanted to change partings.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I we're not going to get no, come on, please.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_00]: Um, we already did someone in a GTC.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_00]: another one is there's there's there's too much to change for this tiny box oh yeah I got it but one that we wanted to change was lame not going on tour is a drummer wadzac went along and she stayed with the kids yes completely cut Christopher cut Christopher Christopher toss Christopher out of a car going a hundred miles per hour over a bridge and rewrite Loreline Chris Mirrying is an option to change the whole season
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_00]: change the proposal, lower line Christopher together, Logan Wood proposed an agrand romantic way, yet private manner, and given her the time to think.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_00]: Lane's pregnancy, she deserved so much better.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_00]: The Marty's storyline, which we had a lot to say, they would have changed Richard getting sick again.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_00]: They think that that was a repeat that
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_00]: didn't need to happen.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wrote down here that, you know, it's a it's a callback to forgiveness and stuff and a lot of.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, the pillows, Laura like, you know, taking a beat before going in and seeing Richard Luke being the one to show up to be with her, you know, there are a lot of callbacks to forgiveness and stuff.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally minded admittedly.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, I actually, I love hospital episodes.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know this about me.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_00]: Famously, it's like taking it to a new location while maintaining, like, enlightening the drama, but also pulling everyone closer and breaking everyone apart at the same time.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_00]: Gorgeous.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_00]: Love it every time.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_00]: Have them in every season.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_00]: Do we have one in our effort for, let remember what episode it was?
- 1:06:21[SPEAKER_00]: You were like, we should do hospital episodes.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_00]: People are hurt episodes.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_00]: We're definitely, it was death.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_00]: Death episodes.
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then we was able to do that.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because if you were to stand in a grand, fran, an old man.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that a lot.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then we remembered, we would have to cover the revival.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_00]: And we were like, no, we stopped that one.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_00]: And so many of these are tossing out everything.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_00]: And like most of the answers include Laura Limerick Christopher.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite is multiple people censored his name and put asterisk for some of the letters because he didn't even want to say his full name.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_00]: But it's changing everything, changing lane storyline.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_00]: Most people said that and Laura Limerick Christopher getting married.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people surprisingly dropped Jess in.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_00]: I know, a lot of people did it in the water as well.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I, and the thing is, is like, they don't elaborate and I'm just like, uh, what?
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think that they can probably because we put the what if question up first.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that like that's the very kind of, you know, superseded some of the rewrites or like pre-seeded them so that they thought
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_01]: They were kind of connected in that way.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there were some, there were some what if Jess Marianne, or yeah, what if season seven, Jess Marianne, sorry lines like him coming back with the graduation party him, you know, showing up for her graduation because he had missed her graduation in season three.
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that would have been a little random because we don't see him for the whole season, but
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_00]: The only other one, well, there's the one that is like the most written after those was that worried should have said yes.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_00]: How do you feel about that?
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_00]: Nope, worried should not have said yes.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, watch that season.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_01]: Can we rewind for a second?
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_00]: and talk about... Oh, there was one other thing I did want to mention, though, that we didn't mention, and I don't know if we talked about it.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, on purpose, didn't talk about on purpose, and it was someone wanted to delete Luke dating April's book coach.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I would delete that.
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was kind of weird.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I did appreciate that he was like trying to put himself out there, but not with her.
- 1:08:46[SPEAKER_01]: Not necessarily with her.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_01]: She was a predator.
- 1:08:49[SPEAKER_01]: She absolutely was, but him trying to date and put himself out there.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think was smart of the rumours.
- 1:08:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they kind of need it.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_00]: But she was a vegan predator.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_00]: She completely was.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_00]: Accumarine.
- 1:09:03[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_00]: But yes, going back to the proposal.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_00]: That was yes.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a proposal that would have felt better for you and would have put you in the position to root for worry to say yes?
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_01]: If we're rewriting season seven, what is a better proposal for Logan?
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_01]: then the one that we actually got and onto the breach.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that the proposal, the proposal, I think that the proposal is really only half the problem.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was the build-up to it.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_00]: It was circumstances surrounding it.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_00]: That in habeal maze, he was like, I don't want you to factor me in.
- 1:09:40[SPEAKER_00]: You do what you want to do and then I'll factor you in.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I am going to chase after you as kind of what it felt like.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next thing we know about Logan's career is he's in San Francisco.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, okay, my dude.
- 1:09:53[SPEAKER_00]: You're taking meetings out in San Francisco.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_00]: When have you ever heard Rory Gilmore say, you know what?
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_00]: I was considering San Francisco.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why she wasn't.
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Great town.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Never been.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Here you have the Golden Bridge.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Really want to see it.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know why that was like the response to that.
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_00]: Very confused by that.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I really didn't like the circumstances that.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Or I knew first that he had gotten a job.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't going to tell worry about it until after the proposal.
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that's not how you start life.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_00]: You don't ask someone, hey, you want to spend the rest of my life with me.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Our lives together married and then tell them everything that they need to know totally.
- 1:10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's like, oh, okay, now we're engaged, but I'm moving to San Francisco.
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that feels like a test.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like, do you want to be with me regardless?
- 1:10:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, cool.
- 1:10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm moving to San Francisco.
- 1:10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to come?
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:10:47[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not not do you want to come, I've already made plans for you to come.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the thing is like, we're going to have an avocado tree.
- 1:10:55[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to come with me.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't come with me, right on.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just take just take your yes back and say no.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think I did need some sort of like build up to it.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think I needed him to
- 1:11:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, step back and maybe maybe maybe the drama of it is that Logan starts looking for a job in New York.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Find a job in New York and worry doesn't get the New York Times Fellowship.
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh.
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_00]: And that's like, oh, I decided this based on what you wanted.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_00]: But like, and not like in a, hey, now I'm stuck here sort of way, but it was like I'd plant my future around you and like setting it up that way.
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_00]: that I think I need some sort of setup.
- 1:11:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's why like maybe during movie night, I would have loved to hear more about his intentions of like, yeah, I love your daughter.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_00]: I really want to be with her.
- 1:11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe forever.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like something along those lines, it feels so cheesy.
- 1:11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, give us a minute.
- 1:11:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally.
- 1:11:54[SPEAKER_00]: I guess I just really hated the way that he was like out in San Francisco and like, don't worry that you didn't get the New York Times.
- 1:12:01[SPEAKER_00]: Everything's gonna be looking up in just a few days.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_00]: because I'm going to propose and this is all going to be behind us and we're going to be making guacamole.
- 1:12:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like it just feels really making guacamole.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_00]: We can have a vote toast.
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter.
- 1:12:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that I needed stability and follow through and like some consistency from what he had already said to what he was doing.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_00]: Because like having be like, I'm going to factor you in
- 1:12:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm in safer to go.
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, how did I get here?
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_00]: No one knows.
- 1:12:37[SPEAKER_00]: No one knows why.
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that's a tech company Palo Alto, like that whole thing.
- 1:12:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like it would have made way more sense for him to be like, in fact, during UN, your dreams New York.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_00]: Me too.
- 1:12:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going there.
- 1:12:49[SPEAKER_00]: Get to job.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_00]: And now she doesn't have a job in New York.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would have been interesting conflict.
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would have been like, hey, I am factoring you in.
- 1:12:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna propose.
- 1:12:58[SPEAKER_00]: Because I would have loved for like a private proposal.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would have been great.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, would have been great if she said, no, I'm a fan of a private proposal.
- 1:13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think she would have said yes.
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think they kind of had like a little celebration in regards to it.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it would have been made way more sense for them to have been engaged at the end of season seven.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_00]: and then we get to the revival to have them broken up.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_00]: chef's case.
- 1:13:25[SPEAKER_00]: But with fifteen year old me I appreciate that no.
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that would have changed the trajectory of my teenagers if Logan and where we would have gotten engaged.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:13:36[SPEAKER_00]: I was distraught.
- 1:13:37[SPEAKER_00]: That was my show.
- 1:13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_00]: I probably wouldn't have read quite as much fan fiction as I did at that time.
- 1:13:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, probably.
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_00]: I probably would have, I would have been so satisfied.
- 1:13:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:47[SPEAKER_00]: How do you have, I saw this faction.
- 1:13:48[SPEAKER_00]: I get that.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Totally.
- 1:13:50[SPEAKER_00]: But now I really truly think that the bulk of it, like the proposal fucking sucked.
- 1:13:56[SPEAKER_00]: But the circumstance of the proposal, we're horrible too.
- 1:14:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_00]: You're supposed to be in a party you didn't even throw for me.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Full of people.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know.
- 1:14:06[SPEAKER_01]: I in front of people.
- 1:14:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_01]: You're putting me on the spot.
- 1:14:09[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't even talked about this.
- 1:14:10[SPEAKER_00]: Also, no one you know is here.
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_00]: Truly.
- 1:14:12[SPEAKER_00]: Where's your friend?
- 1:14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Where's your friend?
- 1:14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Where's honor?
- 1:14:15[SPEAKER_00]: Why is an honor at my graduation?
- 1:14:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:14:18[SPEAKER_00]: She wasn't available.
- 1:14:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:14:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm what do you say?
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you.
- 1:14:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that I agree with you that like I don't think that he did it right and I don't think he did it in a way that made me want her to say yes.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_01]: The whole season would have had to change in order for me to feel
- 1:14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Because like, it's okay that they're heading in that direction.
- 1:14:48[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about this a lot on Patreon that like, yeah, she is really on.
- 1:14:53[SPEAKER_01]: And that's probably a huge factor in maybe why she did feel like comfortable enough to say that she does say that, but
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't talk enough about how their relationship isn't steady enough for the two of them to get married.
- 1:15:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think that's acknowledged enough in season seven in the way that we've talked a lot about how the writers of season seven relied so heavily on season six's foundation, especially if Rory and Logan's relationship and season five, of course, but they like were kind of in the throws of getting together.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_01]: season six is when they really are together and like tested, come back together, tested, come back together.
- 1:15:32[SPEAKER_01]: But they're relying solely on that chemistry, that foundation, those conversations to effectively push us as an audience through their storyline to get us on board with the idea that they're going to get married at the end of it.
- 1:15:47[SPEAKER_01]: All the while, Logan's character is so disdointed where he is what he's doing.
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_01]: like a few points yeah how he's choosing to treat worry what he's saying to her about their future and it's way too
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_01]: all over the place and disconnected that like by the end of the season unless you were in that place where you were fifteen and you loved them and you just like really didn't have a firm grasp you had a fifteen year old grasp and understanding of what a healthy relationship looked like this man asked you exactly look at them and this same goes for me with just you know like when I was younger and I was really rooting for the two of them still am
- 1:16:26[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have a firm grasp on what a healthy relationship looked like.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_01]: And so of course I'm like, yeah, go with this guy.
- 1:16:33[SPEAKER_01]: He loves you.
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much more new ones to that.
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think as women in our thirties, we can now look at it and go, I'm so glad you said no to that proposal.
- 1:16:42[SPEAKER_01]: You guys were not ready to get married.
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I do think that had the season gone differently.
- 1:16:48[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I would have a different opinion, had the season and the proposal gone differently.
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_01]: I may have been like, yeah, I think, because I've said famously that I think that Ryan Logan's relationship for a time was the healthiest one she had had as an adult woman.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_01]: And so for all intents and purposes, it was kind of one of the best relationships to see her in outside of her relationship with Dean and that being young love.
- 1:17:11[SPEAKER_01]: Her relationship with Jess was obviously rocky, but really fun to watch.
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_01]: But Logan felt like he kind of struck that balance of like, oh, first true long-term relationship, that feels like it could head in the direction of marriage.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_00]: And they fucked it up in season seven.
- 1:17:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like I'd say the beginning of season seven, like up until episode seven, really.
- 1:17:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like I feel like, yeah, you guys could do this.
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then he yells at her and I'm like, sleep with one eye open.
- 1:17:37[SPEAKER_00]: If we're keeping things the same, not when I open,
- 1:17:41[SPEAKER_00]: For keeping things the same, like, structurally, when it gets to the proposal, I've always had this like fan fiction, e-moment of like, Laura Lye, when he's like, I think you're going to stick around for this, is Laura Lye being like, don't do it.
- 1:17:55[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 1:17:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it takes him aside and they're writing in the carriage together.
- 1:17:59[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, why do you think now's the right time?
- 1:18:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you didn't even tell her that you got a job.
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_00]: You, like, that's not a any way to feel as if it had a conversation.
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I wish that maybe seeing the expansion, the expansion of that.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_01]: I just love that that's the only way I can work out.
- 1:18:14[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that everyone, all of our besties remember that.
- 1:18:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, as we do, hello.
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_01]: I hope so.
- 1:18:21[SPEAKER_01]: If not, look it up.
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_01]: The expansion, Sukey, the expansion.
- 1:18:25[SPEAKER_01]: I really wish that they're house.
- 1:18:29[SPEAKER_01]: More expansion on like in unto the breach at the beginning, like maybe we picked up with the lower lie, lower lie, and we get to see what lower lie's response was to him.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because she should have said all of these things to him.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_00]: before the care the potential for a character right before the potential for him to propose in front of every does she doesn't know spontaneous like just like so full of love and he wants to do right now but then you go inside and there's a horse and garage and you're like oh this is what you plan to this long as I've been waiting outside I guess see it when they walked it yeah they were a little confused they were like is this a themed party
- 1:19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Is this for us?
- 1:19:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:19:10[SPEAKER_00]: She was here.
- 1:19:10[SPEAKER_00]: Is this a theme for you?
- 1:19:12[SPEAKER_00]: Should I dress like a knight?
- 1:19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, uh.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think that there could have been a way that she could have said yes.
- 1:19:20[SPEAKER_00]: It would have required some restructuring to the stability of Logan's character.
- 1:19:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as is though?
- 1:19:27[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:19:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad she said no.
- 1:19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 1:19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Bye, Lori.
- 1:19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 1:19:38[SPEAKER_00]: I love that's one of my favorite performances in television.
- 1:19:41[SPEAKER_01]: So good.
- 1:19:43[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so in realizing how long this episode has gotten and because we're recording what you all listened to last week tomorrow, we're going to actually put some of the serious what ifs
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_01]: in that episode, so you'll have already heard some of them, but I already know.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_01]: You'll already know what they are.
- 1:19:55[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know what they are, but we want to read, I want to do too.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_01]: But we do what we don't.
- 1:20:00[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:20:01[SPEAKER_01]: You'll have to read some of the what-ifs that just like absolutely made me giggle.
- 1:20:10[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan said, what if Zach got eternally lost in the Haven, me?
- 1:20:13[SPEAKER_01]: So those burgers never would have been delivered.
- 1:20:17[SPEAKER_00]: He can never find this way out.
- 1:20:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the emoji is so good.
- 1:20:22[SPEAKER_00]: What if those became emoji?
- 1:20:24[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:20:24[SPEAKER_00]: You're not on YouTube.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_00]: You're not on YouTube.
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't make the face if you wanted to see it.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_01]: What if Kirk became the next town troubadour?
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_00]: Or they had like a competition.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:20:36[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
- 1:20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Not after we've since talked to him.
- 1:20:39[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot.
- 1:20:40[SPEAKER_00]: I know that.
- 1:20:40[SPEAKER_01]: I was.
- 1:20:41[SPEAKER_01]: We Ryan was also killing me because she said what if Miss Patty open stars?
- 1:20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Hello first.
- 1:20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Why did you say I love her?
- 1:20:48[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_00]: You said I love her.
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan.
- 1:20:53[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan is a girl.
- 1:20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I thought you meant Grandly.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 1:20:59[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan is also cracking me up.
- 1:21:00[SPEAKER_01]: I love her.
- 1:21:01[SPEAKER_01]: She said, what if Miss Patty opened this open star's hollows first Burlesque strip club?
- 1:21:05[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about a spring fling.
- 1:21:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm dead.
- 1:21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my.
- 1:21:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 1:21:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 1:21:15[SPEAKER_00]: That would be great.
- 1:21:16[SPEAKER_00]: What what if?
- 1:21:19[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, would be really fun.
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Brett deal with love that.
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_01]: He'd love his friend playing.
- 1:21:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, last one, because this really made me laugh.
- 1:21:25[SPEAKER_01]: Rachel said, what if three wasn't so dumb, sad face?
- 1:21:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I knew you'd love that one.
- 1:21:31[SPEAKER_01]: What if she wasn't?
- 1:21:33[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, she's very smart.
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_01]: She's very smart.
- 1:21:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think that she's necessary.
- 1:21:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was very as we just discussed at length.
- 1:21:40[SPEAKER_01]: She was very smart to say no to.
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Logan's proposal.
- 1:21:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so very smart.
- 1:21:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's very smart.
- 1:21:45[SPEAKER_01]: But some of these other what ifs are really, really good.
- 1:21:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to have already talked to you about them by the time it's episode.
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite part of this is it like it seems planned because this happened last week for y'all.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_00]: So you're like, oh, yeah, they started it with what ifs.
- 1:22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but we just talked, there's so many things we wanted to rewrite for this.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_00]: And back when we first started this and we were asking for like episode suggestions, everyone was always like, what would you rewrite about season seven or like, do a season seven rewrite?
- 1:22:15[SPEAKER_00]: And we have just been waiting to get to the end of our season seven rewatch.
- 1:22:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it's taken us a couple of years.
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so that we couldn't stop yapping.
- 1:22:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Enough to do the what ifs, but we have already done them at this point in your life.
- 1:22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:22:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:22:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 1:22:31[SPEAKER_01]: our lives.
- 1:22:32[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to refer to that in our lives.
- 1:22:34[SPEAKER_01]: But we are moving really quickly.
- 1:22:37[SPEAKER_01]: I know that we just talked about it at the beginning of this episode that like August is here.
- 1:22:41[SPEAKER_01]: means we're moving very quickly towards back to school season, towards fall, we're very excited about that.
- 1:22:47[SPEAKER_01]: We're also moving towards the end of summer and we're going to do a couple of just general Gilmore to consider is to really round out the summer, listen to your voice analysis.
- 1:22:57[SPEAKER_01]: We have busy answering machines.
- 1:23:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go through those messages and we're going to listen and we're going to pick some spicy takes and really interesting topics and share those with you over the next couple of weeks.
- 1:23:10[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll have more to say on that in the next episode.
