- 0:50Speaker 1: We chatted a little bit about CCC that he ran in the past, his world record attempt for the 24-hour world record vertical attempt on skis that he attempted this past winter not summer winter and, last but not least, we got into UTMB, where he is headed off in just a few weeks to go run.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Actually, when this comes out, it'll probably be the week of UTMB, so we want to wish him the absolute best as he takes on this iconic loop around the Alps.

- 3:56Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, of course man.
- 3:57Speaker 1: We're live.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, we're live with Grant Barnett, the fastest mullet in the Wasatch.
- 4:03Speaker 2: One and only Hell yeah brother.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Well, dude, appreciate it, I think.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Thanks for making the time to come out and, yeah, you know we get started.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Let's, yeah, maybe give a little bit of background and talk about yourself a little bit and let the audience learn a little bit more about you.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, my name's Grant Barnett, originally from Lenore, north Carolina, but I've been living in Salt Lake City since 2018.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So kind of just left home and decided to venture out West, as many people do, and, yeah, I ended up planting the seed here in Salt Lake City after working in the ski areas there.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But, yeah, I pretty much ran cross country and track through some high school and that whole thing and uh, yeah, kind of moved on to the collegiate level, out in a NCAA D two school called Mars Hill out in Asheville, north Carolina.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And uh, from there, yeah, it wasn't quite mature enough for the college mentality.
- 4:57Speaker 2: As you know, some people just aren't meant to sit in a seat and do that kind of stuff.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So I uh ended up dropping out and, um, started through hiking on national scenic trail.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So, yeah, 2016, uh, may 10th, I was at the northern or the southern terminus of the appalachian trail and uh, yeah, just decided to start that through hike.
- 5:19Speaker 2: And I had no idea what I really wanted to do like with life.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And uh, uh, just decided, well, hell, let's go hike for, you know, four and a half months, and then maybe we'll have an idea of what we want to do afterwards.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Dude, that's crazy.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So you?
- 5:32Speaker 1: did the full 18?
- 5:33Speaker 1: .
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yeah, in 2016.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Uh, what was that like?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Tell me about that experience it was slow, especially like being an ultra running now like you.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Just you know, quicker movements, lighter pack and stuff.
- 5:44Speaker 2: It was, it was really hard.
- 5:45Speaker 2: It was a great way to see you know, the United States obviously just, oh man, the most primal movement, I would say totally, but no, it was.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It was quite an experience.
- 5:58Speaker 1: How many miles like a day did you average when you were doing that shit?
- 6:01Speaker 2: So it took me three months and 28 days.
- 6:04Speaker 2: So I was doing about 25 a day on the East coast train there.
- 6:09Speaker 1: And you're carrying like all your stuff with you and like stop in a different spot.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Did you go?
- 6:13Speaker 1: Was it North or South, or East or South and North?
- 6:15Speaker 2: I went to North, yeah, yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 2: So I started in Georgia and I went up to yeah, to Maine and yeah, carried everything on the back and I was did not have any sense of the word ultralight then that's for sure.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I think I probably had that close to 40 pounds on my back and I weighed 120.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So it was like straight weight training every day.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So you.
- 6:36Speaker 1: So you came on my scene or you came on the scene for me in two different ways.
- 6:39Speaker 1: One, I think you like your, your content and stuff you put on Instagram is super inspiring, really, really bad-ass.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Obviously, you've had some amazing um stuff that you've done over the last few years and we'll talk about that Um.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And the second thing, um, that kind of popped you onto the scene for me was a quest last year, so I went out there to run the 25 K and I saw your 50 K finish when you beat the brakes off, Avery, and I was like who the fuck is this kid Like this is kids.
- 7:06Speaker 1: This kid's got some wheels.
- 7:07Speaker 1: So, yeah, that's kind of.
- 7:08Speaker 1: That's kind of how I learned about you.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Oh, man Quest.
- 7:11Speaker 2: That's a.
- 7:12Speaker 2: That's a great race.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I've ever since I got into ultra running, that race has always been in the back of my mind.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Um, sean race out there and, just being from that Asheville-esque area, it's just the ultimate tour of the Black Mountains and I mean, like you said, it's a hefty day out there.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And yeah, I felt like I kind of strategically just let Avery kind of do all the work on that race and then on the last climb I was like okay, like we're going pretty easy, I think I can pick it up and I ended up kind of yeah, surging pretty good up there and finishing it off good, but I mean, like you said, I think we had rain, a little bit of rain, the night before this, yeah.
- 7:53Speaker 2: So we were kind of tiptoeing around, you know was yeah, not, uh, definitely not bombing the descents, but I mean, yeah, you get some serious climbing out there oh, dude, yeah, it's absolutely um, just and like just different.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I remember because I was doing I lived in Colorado still do, obviously but I was doing a lot of my training on more like less hikey stuff but more like runnable, like fire roads and shit like that, and I was just like so unprepared for the technicality like my quads were destroyed.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I ran the 25 K and my quads were destroyed at the end of the race, like I was like oh my God, it's legit.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like a game of dance, dance revolution out there.
- 8:23Speaker 2: It really is, yeah and that little.
- 8:25Speaker 1: that it's funny because I think the 25k was the second half of the 50k course.
- 8:29Speaker 1: So you're coming down, you have that like there's like just so many different sections, like there's that one like padded section that was almost like moss you're running on and then, yeah, it's like the uh, just the roots and just rocks and everything you could possibly think of.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think I wore like like Hoka Tecton, so I was, I was what am I doing here?
- 8:45Speaker 1: Like this is before I do anything.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So, yeah, good times, good times.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, always yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 1: So, dude, you're getting ready for you just told me when we were talking in the parking lot you're getting ready for UTMB.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, time to do the full loop.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I did CCC back in 2022 and was not nearly at all satisfied with my time or place, so I think I got 39th overall and then third American, which I was happy about, but it's incredible still I just had a brutal day out there.
- 9:18Speaker 2: It went so wrong from all 20 on that I was like dude, I could come back and smack this.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So I kind of have a visual of the course, which was nice.
- 9:25Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm really excited to like compete with the best at this one, like I've been doing a lot of training right now and like feel really good.
- 9:34Speaker 2: So I think just making it to the start line in Chamonix is a win in itself.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, now you do.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You still work with Mike Senseri as your coach.
- 9:42Speaker 2: No, I used to to um, yeah, I'm too injury prone for mike.
- 9:44Speaker 2: He's, uh, I'm too much of a head case.
- 9:46Speaker 2: He's, you know, tells me to run flat one day.
- 9:50Speaker 2: And then he goes online and sees I did 5k avert that day and he's like dude, what are you doing?
- 9:54Speaker 2: What the fuck are you doing?
- 9:56Speaker 1: so are you working with a coach, then?
- 9:57Speaker 1: Or like, what do you like?
- 9:58Speaker 1: How was your build for this like?
- 10:00Speaker 2: I just um.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I get a lot of really good insight from a uh, a local Utah badass Um, jimmy Elam who is just an absolute animal, especially at the higher distance stuff.
- 10:10Speaker 1: He's had some.
- 10:11Speaker 1: He's had a great finish.
- 10:11Speaker 1: He's such a good.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I mean, oh my God, he just finds a way to throw himself in each race that he does and just absolutely crush it.
- 10:18Speaker 2: But he's just genuinely very knowledgeable in all things running, whether it's you know what kind of gear you're using, how many carbs you should be throwing down an hour, or a nutrition that's worked for him or not worked for him.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I mean, he's just such a good.
- 10:33Speaker 2: He's one of my idols here in Salt Lake but, yeah, he's just a great, knowledge-based person that really can tell you and make you learn a lot about the true distance.
- 10:41Speaker 2: And he, he did.
- 10:42Speaker 2: He got 14th, uh, in 2022 when he did utmb and that's kind of my goal.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Is that top 15, yeah, uh, that, yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 2: So I'm just trying to like take in as much information as he tells me, really, but nothing, uh, I don't really have a coach or anything.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I just kind of believe in um, especially for something like utmb, just spend your time out in the mountains, uh, pound the legs up on certain days, keep it chill on certain days and, yeah, just get to the starting line healthy for something like this.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Cause you're gonna.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a long loop, dude.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Oh my God, yeah, so you know, and like that's the thing, like it's funny.
- 11:17Speaker 1: It's hard for me to like think about like just how long and how far there is.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I mean, you've run 100 miles, obviously before, on multiple occasions, but for me, who's never run 100 miles, it's like holy fuck Especially like you, timmy this is so far and so brutal.
- 11:29Speaker 1: What does your nutrition strategy look like for a race like this?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Man, it's really.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It was kind of all over the place.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So the past two races I've done, which was Speed Goat not too long ago and then Broken Arrow, were unfortunately dropped out beginning of the year.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I don't know, the heat has just been really fucking me up recently and I kind of had it like dialed before where I was like, hey, you know, we're just like taking in some precision, um, uh, carb mix for like drink, so having some liquid calories, but also just cramming martins down, yeah and uh, this past time, I mean for the past two races which, I hate to admit, I've thrown up pretty profusely during the race.
- 12:10Speaker 2: So there's always like different things to kind of work on, and right when I think I have it dialed, something like that happens and then it's like, well, fuck, like back to the drawing board.
- 12:18Speaker 2: But overall I think we really have it dialed.
- 12:21Speaker 2: For this one, I think I'm going to try and plan to take in about like 80 carbs, 80 grams of carbs an hour.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That's pretty solid, yeah, yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I know it depends usually on weight and stuff and I think for Broken Arrow my problem was I would take things too consistently.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And you know you're running really fast, You're breathing hard, it's so hot dude.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Exactly that was.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was so bad and I yeah, it was just night and day difference of like, oh, I feel really good Two miles later, oh fuck, I am like I can't even stand up.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's the thing.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Dude, that course is so fast.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I feel like the descents are just absolutely like smoking.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just that mixture.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I mean.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, no bueno.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I thought I had it dialed at Speedgoat and kind of went in with the same thing.
- 13:07Speaker 2: I know the Wasatch really well, I know the course really good, which I was stoked about, but I knew all the climbing really comes in the back half of that second climb.
- 13:13Speaker 2: You got, you know, like a 4,500-foot climb from the bottom of Mineral all the way up to Baldy and I really thought I'd lace that section this time.
- 13:20Speaker 2: But then you know right, when I get towards the top of that with like a thousand feet to go, I just start kind of I take one little gulp of coke and then it all just kind of flows out of me and it's just got to work on, like you know like okay like what?
- 13:33Speaker 2: what should I kind of avoid?
- 13:35Speaker 1: yeah, yeah, no, and it's, and I feel like, as you, as you get older, like it changes too, like what you're, you're, I feel, I don't know, like I'm.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I just went through the whole thing this season like completely retooling.
- 13:45Speaker 1: That's why I asked Cause I'm just always curious to see what different people do.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Um, I just completely retooled my nutrition strategy, especially for like short, short races and stuff like that.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Like I was dealing with a ton of nausea and like you never want to start a race, especially like a fast race, with something like that, and yeah, that's what I've been just trying to figure out.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a pain in the ass.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And it is in like with all the nutrition companies that are just popping out of the blue here.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I mean, in the past two years, precision knack and never second or have just sprung out and they're signing all these crazy athletes.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And you know great marketing strategy.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I, you know, I work in the marketing department of pit viper, so I'm like you know good shit for, like, you know, you signed Jim Walmsley and people were like maybe I should give never second to try.
- 14:24Speaker 2: You know, like, so.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I totally get it, but it's.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of those things where it's like shit.
- 14:28Speaker 2: You know like if funds wise, it's really hard to kind of be like, well, I can't buy, you know, 300 bucks of nutrition and then just go through it all.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You know, uh, whether you can just down a bunch of chocolate chip cookies and that settles your stomach, that's like stoked.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Or if you I know people that'll for a hundred mile, they'll just pop goose.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And I'm like how the hell can you only just pop goose?
- 14:53Speaker 1: oh my god, they're disgusting.
- 14:55Speaker 1: So you're gonna finish with like 30 or 40 goose like oh my god just iron stomach dude, yeah, no way.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I've been.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I've been liking martin lately.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I just like kind of switched over.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Um, I know first, you ever I don't know if you follow first endurance.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Like I was like working with them for a little bit and like using some of their gels and it's just like wasn't working for me, man, and I switched over to martin and like martin's got the stuff like I don't know that consistency some people don't like, but I don't know, it's pretty, it's me now.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I was an applesauce bitch before.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, just like all many of you, I got fucked by spring energy.
- 15:27Speaker 2: This is just as hard.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I can still feel it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Dude.
- 15:31Speaker 1: So many people.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 15:32Speaker 1: You know it's so funny.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Before you came here, I was literally just looking at my email and they like sent me an email and I like unsubscribe.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I just had one on my run right there and I was like this is shit, like it just totally my mind just totally turned off into where I'm like I don't even want to like eat this on a run.
- 15:47Speaker 2: It's not even worth it, you know.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So dude on marketing.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Speaking of marketing, you said you work for Pit Viper.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:54Speaker 1: What a fucking cool job.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Can you talk?
- 15:56Speaker 2: about that a little bit.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a.
- 16:06Speaker 2: So I'm the sports marketing coordinator.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Pit viper sunglasses have been for um, I just had my three-year anniversary with them actually but uh, yeah, it's.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Oh man, it's just so dope to work like in the outdoor industry and kind of get like, while I am an athlete, I'm also like an employee in the outdoor industry, so it's really nice to like work in that space of like.
- 16:20Speaker 2: You know, we work with a ton of athletes, big names and and things like that, and it's like just cool to see like the back end of that.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So, yeah, kind of like you know, we work with a ton of athletes, big names and and things like that, and it's like just cool to see like the back end of that.
- 16:27Speaker 2: So, yeah, kind of like all of our athletes, uh, partnerships, affiliates and uh, just other companies, we kind of send them gear, whether it's you know we trade product or or whatever.
- 16:37Speaker 2: But uh, no, it's, it's super dope, and I always get the same expression, that kind of you said, from oh man, you work at pit viper Like yeah, it was such a cool company.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I mean like your website, I mean like and people, if you like, for listeners, like, if you haven't checked out the website, go on the website, order a pair of sunglasses, like, not just sort of the sunglasses, right, but the web, like who, whoever your web guy is, whoever came up with the idea, for the website is is hilarious and I just like I drive a big 4Runner out there and I have a bunch of Pit Viper stickers on the back and like I usually get a usually kind of make people's day because a bunch of them just say ridiculous shit, like life is short, so is my penis Wear Pit Viper sunglasses.
- 17:13Speaker 2: You know, honk, if you're horny for Pit Vipers, just it's just.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I love working, being serious, like that's in love that, yeah, yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Well, dude, and like you gotta remember, like I like people, like like I work in corporate america dude, like I work for like a buttoned up corporate finance group and like they're fucking dweebs like it drives me crazy.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Like no one has personality, so to see people like working for like rad brands they're like actually doing something that people get excited about, that's that's interesting to me.
- 17:40Speaker 2: So I've really been trying to get them more into the, into the running world.
- 17:43Speaker 2: We went out to Western States, uh, last year, which was really dope, and we had a lot of positive feedback from that.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Um, one of the things I thought was just super funny and um good, or was the uh good, or sunglasses, don't buy them, they're not good.
- 17:57Speaker 2: But uh, they, uh, they were the presenting sponsor of Western States.
- 18:01Speaker 2: You know, out there and there and uh, it's funny, a bunch of their employees would come over to our tent and they would like look around really suspiciously and they would just be like, oh man, like can I have a pair of pit vipers?
- 18:11Speaker 2: like I work for gooder, but like I just, you know, can you just like you know, and we would tell them we'd be like, hey, like if you take those shades off your face, put them on the ground and you stomp them right here like I'll give you a pair of shades right now for free, and the amount of people that would do it, I just it's funny, you know.
- 18:25Speaker 2: You just put people on the spot and it's like fuck, yeah, I want a pair of pit vipers absolutely, absolutely dude.
- 18:31Speaker 1: They're so cool and, like I said, like they're and you have like all different kinds of, you know, like the one, what are the new ones?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Actually?
- 18:36Speaker 2: talk about the new ones you just handed me today yeah, so I just uh laced you up with a pair of sky surfers it's kind of our running endurance shade there um, yeah, just kind of, uh, your natural kind of blade-esque shade, which is pretty, it's, it's a great fit.
- 18:53Speaker 2: But, um, like we were talking about before, you know, some of the blade shades are just so massive that are, you know, on your face or whether they shake or whatever.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So it's really nice that we came up with a design that, um, they don't shake on your face.
- 19:03Speaker 2: You know, they sit really well, they have great airflow.
- 19:05Speaker 2: So you can really, you know, and depending on, um, the type of shade you get from the sky surfer series, we have photochromic lenses, so you can transition from clear over to to to a regular sunglass.
- 19:18Speaker 2: So it's just having that variety and just we can't please everyone.
- 19:22Speaker 2: But if we can just really like dial in some good designs and like get some positive feedback, then you know it's.
- 19:27Speaker 2: And we've had nothing but good complaints.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Good stuff about those shades, which is the only pair I wear now.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah I mean, dude, they look legit.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I can't wait.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna wear them on my run tomorrow I'm so excited thank you for that.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Um, yeah, dude, so all right, so, and I thank you for talking a little bit about pit viper and like they're located in salt lake city, so if anybody is interested in applying for jobs, check it out.
- 19:47Speaker 1: It's a good spot yeah dude.
- 19:51Speaker 1: So we talked about broken arrow a little bit.
- 19:54Speaker 1: We talked about speed yard.
- 19:55Speaker 1: I want to talk a little bit more about speed over.
- 19:56Speaker 1: You just took fifth.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Um, dude, what a bananas race.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I feel like you said that was your best finish that you've had there.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Damn, talk about the race.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Give me a little play-by-play on what went down there.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Well, it's funny, I've kind of had a few-year hiatus with Speed Goat.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I think half the reason was just it's in the backyard up at Snowbird Ski Resort.
- 20:16Speaker 2: But yeah, I did the race in 2019 when I was living at Alta and working up there as a ski bum, Uh, and I just thought it was like the hardest thing ever.
- 20:25Speaker 2: And um, you know this sadistic person, Carl Meltzer, who I'd met, ironically, when I was on the Appalachian trail.
- 20:32Speaker 2: He was doing his speed attempt.
- 20:34Speaker 2: So I, we kind of got to to chill and chat for a little bit.
- 20:38Speaker 2: But um, yeah, I just, you know, it's just such a hard race and like it just really mimics the kind of race that I like to do, which is usually, you know, kind of a lot of um, a lot of climbing and really it's pretty technical.
- 20:52Speaker 2: There's a lot of forest service road, but it's not just perfectly paved out forest road, it's.
- 20:56Speaker 2: You know, it's a lot of rocks and stuff in there.
- 20:58Speaker 2: But uh, no, I mean it was a great result.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Um, not quite what I.
- 21:07Speaker 2: I I wanted top five, but uh, like I said, you know, there was definitely some setbacks in the race where, like, I felt really strong until I didn't.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And then once you start kind of throwing up, it just kind of you try to replenish the calories, you just kind of threw everywhere, but, um, you know, it's just hard to catch up after that.
- 21:20Speaker 2: But uh, I can't be mad with at fifth, I uh no, what a great result barely held off, uh, adam peterman by one minute and one second did you really?
- 21:28Speaker 1: barely so uh dude, you're one of the rare people I don't think I've ever met another person that's beaten out of peterman in a race, so I think you're the only one my buddies that are better than me, I still give them shit for it.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I'm like, well, have you beat peterman, that's right, that's right I don't think caleb Olson's beating Peter, but that's what I told him, yeah, Literally the first time I hit up.
- 21:45Speaker 2: But I was like hey man, you know, like you got fit at Western, but you know you didn't beat Peter.
- 21:49Speaker 1: That's amazing, I feel like it's such great training, like for UTMB just because UTMB, I mean, I feel like in a lot I don't know if the right word is to say like a highway, compared to like some of the other courses like TDS and maybe some sections of like OCC and stuff like that Like I feel like it's it's solid training, I would imagine.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's perfect timing really.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I mean late July, you know you have a month before uh, almost like an exact month before UTMB or any of the CCC, occ, any of the stage races there.
- 22:22Speaker 2: So it's kind of like, oh, wow, like I can go and do like a simulation of maybe the last 50K of UTMB in this race.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I know there's a lot of different factors in there, like your heart rate's going to be racing much more in speed go than UTMB and things like that.
- 22:37Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean the effort's totally there.
- 22:39Speaker 2: So it's like you know, between the time frame being pretty perfectly and you can always practice nutrition strategies and things like that and get ready for the terrain, um, at utmb and plus, it's higher too.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I didn't even think about that yeah, 11 000 feet three times.
- 22:53Speaker 2: So it's yeah, it really gets you in good shape yeah, yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I ran up on baldy today and I was like, oh, what a cool peak.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I got to like the little one and then I'm like, oh shit, I have to go to the bigger one.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Like that last climb.
- 23:05Speaker 1: They take you up that dude, I think the descent's worse.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I don't know if you I'm sure you have run that like bananas descent like straight off the peak, that's like oh, yeah, yeah, it drops like 1300 feet a mile.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I was like what is this?
- 23:19Speaker 2: I'd rather grow up and then down it.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah so you're a big vert guy, which is interesting because, like that, I love to climb more than I love descent, like I I don't know, I'm a big vert person myself.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Um, like, when I think about the place I want to live and the place I want to be, like a lot of the reason like I chose where I live is because, like I can get two and three thousand foot climbs like not too far from my house.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Um, do you want to talk about that?
- 23:42Speaker 1: Like why you love the uphill so much and like why that calls to you Like what's your, what's the thing with that, oh man.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I think I was never the fastest.
- 23:50Speaker 2: I think I've always had kind of a chip on my shoulder because I've never been that sub 30 minute 10 K or you know.
- 23:57Speaker 2: I barely broke 17 minutes in the five K and in college, like I was not by any means a fast runner, but I just noticed as, um, as the you know, the terrain got tilted a little bit and maybe you had to work a little bit harder and you know there's things that kind of break you down a little bit.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I just seemed to thrive a little bit more in that I, I think, through hiking has a lot to do with that, just with, you know, constantly being on trail and you're especially on the AT, you know, peak gap, peak gap, peak gap, and uh, same for the Pacific crest trail as well.
- 24:32Speaker 1: But, um, yeah, I, I don't know why I love the uphill so much, but I'm pretty obsessed with it feel the same way and I feel like I can't really speak to why either, but it's just like way more interesting to me.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I don't know why.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Like I, I'd rather like hammer the ascent on a like hammer climb to get to the top of the peak as fast as I possibly can, then just like lollygag on the descent.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I don't know why, but yeah, totally, and it's oh man, I may I think schemo has something to do with it.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Like I do, the majority of my uphill definitely throughout the year in Schemo.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I got near half a mil just in three months of training.
- 25:08Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Just for ski mountaineering and just kind of on the daily grind, you don't get beat up as much.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Can you speak about your Schemo stats this year, because this is something I was going to ask you.
- 25:16Speaker 1: What did you?
- 25:16Speaker 1: I think it was like 80 something days of skiing this year.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Right, this is something I was going to ask you, what did you?
- 25:19Speaker 2: I think it was like 80 something days of skiing this year, right, yeah, it, um, it ended up being around 90 cause I, like I thought I was done and then we got another massive powder day out here in uh, great skiing of all time, utah, obviously.
- 25:29Speaker 2: But uh, but no, it just we just kept getting dumped on and I was like fuck, dude, like it's just still really good, and uh, no, so it was about it ended up being like 92 days, uh, of skiing.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Quite, can't quite tell the hours, but yeah, it was about half a million uh feet of climbing and kind of had some projects.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I raced the national champs race powder keg and did pretty well it pretty well on that.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I think I got six in the individual on eighth in the vertical.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Just Joe Demore out there for that one too, or no?
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a more.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yeah, eighth in the vertical just joe demore out there for that one too, or no?
- 25:59Speaker 2: yeah, it was a more yeah, I think I came in right behind.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Uh demore came in right behind me, and uh david sinclair and and joe or uh mcgabro got me okay, um dude, what's the deal with sinclair?
- 26:11Speaker 1: oh my god, he's fucking disgusting, like so good I text my buddy.
- 26:16Speaker 2: We actually just sent him a bunch of uh pit viper stuff oh, cool, cool yeah, our vp hit him up and she's like hey man, like you're never, he's never like wearing a brand no that's what I love about him.
- 26:26Speaker 2: He's just like out there in like half tights and a party shirt, just random balling yeah, just never like.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Looks like he's really trying hard, and especially speaker, I mean 457 dude?
- 26:37Speaker 1: is he the only person that's?
- 26:37Speaker 2: ever gone under five hours.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the only holy jim adam killian, I don't even think did it that's crazy.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yeah, well killing.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I think also got dq'd for cutting switchbacks the european way.
- 26:48Speaker 2: It's a very different conversation.
- 26:50Speaker 1: But yeah, um, but, dude, yeah like the thing that, like somebody went five under at like under five hours on our course is bananas like he, I can't believe you know.
- 26:59Speaker 1: And he's gotten the best of peterman twice this year too.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So you know, especially like you, oh, you rest him twice too.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Broken arrow as well oh man, and he actually had a more like relaxed start at broken arrow.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Um, like at the top of the.
- 27:12Speaker 2: The first climb it was, uh, I think cam smith, um, someone, someone else, but david was really kind of like just squeaking his way through then, but then a speed goat, like he took off from the gun did he really?
- 27:25Speaker 2: Him, sam hindry, yeah um, scott patterson, the three nordic boys, yeah, everyone looks silly on the topic of skiing, because this is something I wanted to get to do.
- 27:36Speaker 1: You think that like really sets you because, um, where I live in the front range of colorado, like our, our skiing is dog shit.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Like I have to drive like two hours to get like any good skiing and I've been like considering, like all right, maybe I start getting into backcountry and schemo and like doing like a full season of that, would you say, like that contributes to significant fitness in the off season, or do you just have more fun with it?
- 27:56Speaker 2: like I think a bit of both, I think.
- 27:58Speaker 2: For what I like to do, it really helps me.
- 28:01Speaker 2: It's so much strength training, which is nice, but I've noticed in those shorter, faster Schemo races where you're going all out through most of it, you really have to plan workouts and things like that to actually get faster and fitter and raise those VO2 max.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Because if you think about it, when you're skinningning you're going uphill and you do have weight but you're kind of going like a hiking pace so you're not quite getting that um pounding on the legs, which is super beneficial, but um, yeah, overall it's like for the longer stuff.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I really think it translates well, just to you know, when you're out there skiing for eight hours, that that time on feet is really gonna help out for those longer races interesting did you see killian just dropped his uh, his like training this week.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yeah, he was talking about what he did and, like dude, he was doing like we.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I think it was like months of like five to six hours a day, monday through friday, of schemo and then like running on saturday and sunday like shorter stuff, like what the fuck.
- 28:57Speaker 1: And it's cool to see like all these guys like really coming out.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I mean, they like shorter stuff.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Like what the fuck?
- 28:59Speaker 2: And it's cool to see like all these guys like really coming out.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I mean they've always kind of been in the schemo scene but like Killian I'm I'm a big fan of a John Alban and like Petter in England, all.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:09Speaker 2: But, um, it's just like those guys, oh my God, like that, when I don't think the schemo is helping, I'll just like look at their training and be like, oh, they just got like 13,000 feet of climbing in like five hours.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah, this has got to help somehow, absolutely.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Dude on that topic, like you, so maybe you could talk a little bit about.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I just was so inspired by your 24 hour record attempt that you did this year.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Um, that's something like we got to talk about.
- 29:33Speaker 1: So good, Open it up, let's hear it man.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Um, yeah, that was uh.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Uh, that was a long, strange trip.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Uh, it was.
- 29:42Speaker 2: It was a good time.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I unfortunately not the result I wanted, but, um, I think just getting to the the start line of some of that stuff, after planning all those logistics.
- 29:50Speaker 2: And well, for people who don't know, I went for the?
- 29:53Speaker 2: Um, the 24-hour record for most vert accumulated on skis in 24 hours.
- 29:58Speaker 2: The previous record was held by mike foot um out of montana and he had 61 200 and I thought anything over that would be dope.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Um ended up making it right at 40 000 and pulling the plug, um, but no, it went really perfect for 12 hours and uh, I came through halfway.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I split the first Everest in nine hours and 50 minutes.
- 30:22Speaker 2: So I was, I felt really good.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Um, the slope angle that I choose chose was, uh, right at a mile and it had 1500 feet of climbing, so it was kind of that perfect, like no real flat spots.
- 30:34Speaker 2: You're kind of you're going up or you're going down, which is the way that I think is good.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Um, but yeah, I kind of was just skiing, I think, lap 14, uh, fucking lap 14.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I uh was skiing down the groomer and uh, it was at night, so obviously it was getting tired, things like that.
- 30:51Speaker 2: But uh, yeah, I just kind of leaned back a little bit too much and kind of popped off the groomer and went into some icy chudder and kind of twisted my knee a little.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Uh, a little a little tough there, but um, it definitely I didn't really feel the need to tell my crew about it.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I was like, oh, it's fine, like whatever, pop some ibuprofen, keep going.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Um, but yeah, it didn't quite end up that way.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I did one more lap and was like this fucking hurts.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I think I'm good.
- 31:16Speaker 2: So I I think 40 000 feet in in 14 hours is an okay day.
- 31:21Speaker 2: That's insane like not quite the result, but you know how it goes.
- 31:24Speaker 2: This is, yeah, just showing up.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Is is just as good, because planning all those logistics and stuff, getting permance and stuff from the ski resort and and everything, I chose to do it over at beaver mountain and they were super cool about it, which was, which was awesome, but uh, yeah, just the whole thing of getting out there and all the logistical stuff is definitely kind of a nightmare.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Totally worth it, though well, I was.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I was gonna quote you because what your instagram post I thought was like beautifully written and you kind of just talked about like the most important thing was just kind of like being out there and having fun.
- 31:53Speaker 1: You know, um, dude, like what, what logistics go into this?
- 31:56Speaker 1: I mean like from a food perspective, from a crew.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Like what, what logistics go into this?
- 31:58Speaker 1: I mean like from a food perspective, from a crew perspective.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Like what, what do you got to do to like get this done?
- 32:02Speaker 2: Well, I think the hardest part for me was honestly like getting approval from uh, from a ski resort Like I hit up uh Alta, snowbird, uh, solitude, and all these people or all these resorts, they uh, they don't allow uphill access in the winter, so it's kind of a bummer because they have such great slope angles.
- 32:20Speaker 2: And you know I get it from a corporate perspective.
- 32:22Speaker 2: You don't want.
- 32:23Speaker 2: You know, mommy and daddy skiing down the bunny hill and hitting you know a person just happens to be going up.
- 32:29Speaker 1: So it's, I'm alive.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I am a walking liability out there and I'm I'm totally okay saying that.
- 32:33Speaker 2: But uh, that was kind of I mean I had to drive two hours out to Beaver just to get approval from them, go out there and really just set up some meetings and just talk about the do's and don'ts.
- 32:43Speaker 2: They kind of had some restrictions on me and I kind of had told them some things just like I need a designated spot, I need this, that they were super great and they accommodated everything for the most part.
- 32:56Speaker 2: But yeah, it was just kind of that back half of raising money for Utah Abbey, because Utah Avalanche Center does a tremendous amount here in the Wasatch with keeping us safe.
- 33:03Speaker 2: But no, it was super tough just communicating with everyone when really I just wanted to train and do it.
- 33:10Speaker 2: I didn't want to worry about any of the other stuff.
- 33:12Speaker 2: But yeah, you can't just show up and do something like that.
- 33:15Speaker 2: You got to have approval, you got to have some people helping you out and things like that.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Wow, that's crazy, and it's crazy how like things have changed.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Like I feel like in the eighties you probably could have gotten away with just doing it, you know, or like the even like even the nineties I don't know the way things are now.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I feel like you know everything's got red tape and permitting and all that bullshit you know it's a lot of real food.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Um, I knew I was eating a ton of like rice.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Each time I would basically ski down and I would go into the tent just for a brief moment.
- 33:49Speaker 2: My uh, my buddy would put skins on my skis for me, so I would just kind of pound as much food as I could.
- 33:54Speaker 2: But yeah, mashed potatoes, rice, salted chips, coke um would We'd usually pop gels when I was out there eat like waffle bars.
- 34:03Speaker 2: So it kind of does translate perfectly to a 100-mile race, because that's what I love about 100s.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I get to take real food in, none of this 50K bullshit where I just have to pop goos and all this stuff and throw them back up.
- 34:15Speaker 2: We get to actually have some real food this time.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I feel like in europe too, dude, you get like, you get the assortments, you get like the salted, like pork, you get the chocolate, you can pick, pick whatever you want meat and cheese oh, I love it.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I'm a carnivore dude, actually I meant to ask you this over the utmb.
- 34:31Speaker 1: So you're going out.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Well, you said next week you go out right?
- 34:34Speaker 2: yeah, that will be there on the the 20.
- 34:36Speaker 2: We leave on the 21st so when's the race is?
- 34:38Speaker 2: It.
- 34:38Speaker 1: It's on the 30th okay, all right, so you guys, so you don't have.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I feel like people go out there so early and like waste so much time, though I wonder, and like just like completely blowing themselves up, like doing like overtraining, almost, whereas I don't know.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I feel like if you just go out like a week before, it gives you time to get used to the food, gives you time to get used to the sleep, it it's just like just enough time, you know.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Dude, some of those people need jobs, man.
- 34:59Speaker 2: How are they able to just go out there for months on end and like I get it if you're like with a sponsor and stuff.
- 35:05Speaker 2: But yeah, dude, I've been especially fucking sucks like opening up Strava and just like seeing you know.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, the hooses and you know just how many runs and all this stuff and you stuff and you're just like fuck man, like these people were scouting this course out so hard and like I'm glad that I remember the majority of ccc from moving at such a slower pace.
- 35:27Speaker 1: um, and obviously, just obsessed with watching uh, the walmsley doc and such.
- 35:29Speaker 1: I think I watched it like five times.
- 35:29Speaker 2: This is so good I watch it for the utb parts.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I'm just like, oh yeah, here we go, this is where we're gonna make our move the dagger.
- 35:36Speaker 1: You know he talks about the dagger, oh my god yeah, what a good documentary.
- 35:41Speaker 1: That course is just like I don't know.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I keep coming back to it because that course is just so sick, like um, I don't know.
- 35:47Speaker 1: There's so many idiosyncrasies where, like you think you can make a move, like in certain areas, but you can't, like I don't know.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Grand cole foray just looks like so much fun, I don't know.
- 35:57Speaker 1: And the fact that you guys like the people in, like the relative front of the race, like you're gonna come through.
- 36:01Speaker 1: What is it?
- 36:02Speaker 1: Um, is it?
- 36:03Speaker 1: I guess it's core, my aerial come through like at two or three in the morning or something like that right when the biggest climb starts that'll be fun.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, you're in for.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Oh, dude, talk to me about like your kit, like what are you gonna?
- 36:15Speaker 1: What are you rocking?
- 36:17Speaker 2: um, um, I think I'll probably go.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Uh, pit Viper made me like some sample shorts that I've been wearing and broken arrow and speed goat.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I'll probably end up going with those, um, as well as like a, a black t-shirt.
- 36:29Speaker 2: They've that.
- 36:30Speaker 2: They've uh sampled for me as well, but I'll probably end up taking a few t-shirts just to change in and out.
- 36:35Speaker 2: It seems like that's kind of you know, go through so much like microclimate pockets that you know you just get cold, hot so quickly and you know if it rains or whatever.
- 36:44Speaker 2: So I just want to make sure that like that's my main, because when I did grindstone hundred miler to get into UTMB, um, like that was almost kind of like the same.
- 36:53Speaker 2: You know it's just out in the in the Southeast, like that.
- 36:57Speaker 2: You just constantly you know hot, you're cold, you're hot, it starts pouring, you're freezing cold, lots of humidity, plus.
- 37:02Speaker 1: You did it in like a.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Wasn't there like a tropical storm or something at the time?
- 37:07Speaker 2: like and it sucks, because when I go back home I usually see family and everything and uh, it's like I usually do a little local race or whatever, and this one was a little bit bigger with with it being utmb, which was nice, but I just I cannot get like a clear day back home to like really race Like it's always diminished by like a quest.
- 37:24Speaker 2: You know rain before, so every rock is just completely slippery or like rain during which that was just oh, that was an experience.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Dude, the start of quest cracked me up, so I came out there with a buddy and he ran the 50K with you and like I dropped him instead of taking the bus, I dropped him off at the start line, which was in like some random neighborhood.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I was like what is sean?
- 37:45Speaker 1: Like what kind of ideas sean have with this?
- 37:47Speaker 1: This is bananas.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I did the same thing with my parents, like we dropped us off, like right there the neighborhood, and sean kind of got on to me because the day before I was like hey, man, like I don't really really want to wake up earlier and ride the bus, like can my parents just drop me off?
- 37:57Speaker 2: I was like hey man, like I don't really really want to wake up earlier and ride the bus, like can my parents just drop me off.
- 38:00Speaker 2: And he was like you know, like I want you to ride the bus, but you know, if you accidentally miss the bus, this is where we're starting, yeah.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I thought it was so funny.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I was like dude.
- 38:11Speaker 1: It starts in like a random neighborhood, what?
- 38:14Speaker 2: do you?
- 38:15Speaker 2: That's like the worst route to uh.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, dude the shit.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I think that's like the, I think that's the, also the VK route or something like that, or up and over.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Yeah Well, dude, one of the things that interested me also, that I wanted to talk to you about, is like you're a wild boy, like you're, you're like your way, like I don't know, like when you finish tmr and like you threw you know you threw the sign up and like you were just usually have.
- 38:40Speaker 1: You're authentically you and like.
- 38:42Speaker 1: There's not a lot of people in our sport that are like that.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Like.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Usually people are very buttoned up and they toe the line and they don't say like, they don't talk shit, they don't do anything.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Like I.
- 38:51Speaker 1: First of all, thank you for being that way, because we need more people in the sport like that.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Um, but like what?
- 38:57Speaker 1: What inspires you to be that Like?
- 38:59Speaker 1: What inspires you to just be yourself, like and just be, have fun with it?
- 39:03Speaker 2: It's.
- 39:04Speaker 2: This sport is too serious.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Like it's just we need to make ultra running raunchy again.
- 39:09Speaker 2: We need to like this is why we're here, you know we're not.
- 39:12Speaker 2: We're not like the road runners who take everything completely serious, from split to split to split.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Like we're out here to like, like you know, to obviously enjoy nature and just absolutely put ourself in a hole with you know, and just it's so, it's so tough.
- 39:27Speaker 2: I've just always kind of like I I think it's between kind of my entire life.
- 39:31Speaker 2: I was a really small kid and I think people would always tell me you can't do this, you can't do that, whether or not, and I would always just kind of like keep that in my mind and be like well, fuck them.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Like yes, I can, you know, hell yeah.
- 39:43Speaker 2: And especially like in today's day and age, where everyone's so nice, like through ultra running, it's like no, like fuck that.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Like I want to see, like you know, I want to see two of the top guys at this race like duke it out and just like talk shit to each other during and be like dude, I'm about to like drop you on this climb and stuff.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Like people are just too like nice and humble and you know I love it.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I, you know I, I don't know.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I've just always kind of been like the the dark horse.
- 40:06Speaker 2: It's just like.
- 40:07Speaker 2: You know, I get beat by many people.
- 40:09Speaker 2: I've never claimed that I was the best or anywhere near the best.
- 40:13Speaker 2: I just kind of like.
- 40:14Speaker 1: I just think that we should all just like have fun out there and I think we should like shit talk each other and really get like the most out of each other that we can well, I feel like it's you, sabrina stanley, like I know, like I I'm, you know, I know joe gray pretty well and like I know joe is like a very like solid competitor, like he's one of the greatest of all time, but like he's, he's fucking competitive, like he's not going to be your best friend at the start line, but I feel like we have some like it's almost like I think what bothers me the most and this is probably a hot take but like we have a lot of people in the sport that are like, aren't like that, but they're, they are fake, like that.
- 40:46Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Like they don't, I don't know, like they, just they do it because that's the way they think they're supposed to be you know I mean perfect example how many people are racing utmb this year and all the races after they did that shit to gary robbins race yeah, like yeah, all these people are just like I will not support this, I will not support that.
- 41:03Speaker 2: And next thing, you know you see their name on the entrance list yeah, for for one of the stage races.
- 41:07Speaker 2: And it's like dude, like like I get it.
- 41:09Speaker 2: You know, social media, today's day and age, it's like you know you kind of everyone has a voice, which is dope, but it's it's just funny what people choose to do in the public eye versus like what they do behind, like their phone.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh dude, Everybody's a social media fucking keyboard warrior you know I'll say one thing the only person like because I feel really bad for him like Zach Miller, who wasn't able to get in a hard rock and I got to say, dude, I respect the hell out of him for not going back to try to get into UTMB after all the shit went down, cause I gotta be honest with you, like that might've been the first thing I would have pivoted to if I had that level of fitness and I was.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I needed something to do, you know.
- 41:45Speaker 2: So good on him.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Yeah, a hundred percent on him, because I mean like I felt so sorry for him when his like appendix.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Something like that in Silverton out there.
- 41:55Speaker 2: So, like you know, obviously don't let him run hard rock, but like shit.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Now he doesn't really have like a fallback yeah, no backup course because I mean he's so good.
- 42:03Speaker 2: No, he's nasty he's so good.
- 42:05Speaker 1: You know what the thing about him that's interesting and I think I respect the most is like he's amazingly good.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, but he's nowhere near the most talented athlete out there, but just like a fucking hard worker dude.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I love that.
- 42:17Speaker 2: His face says it all, yeah he's, oh, if, if you want to like, compare him to like the road running scene, like watching like connor mance run yeah, yeah like, just you know, it's just not a you know you like look at these guys faces and they just look like they like gotta take a shit or something.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Just you know back on that competitive discussion.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Like it just made me think of something.
- 42:38Speaker 1: So finn had hayden on during western states and hayden's like I'm not here to be best friends with anybody.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Like I'm here to fucking compete and people got so sensitive.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Like you know, I'm not gonna say who like if you want to go back and look at the post and like you can look at in in the comments on who got sensitive.
- 42:55Speaker 1: But like the fuck, like this is an individual sport at the end of the day, like sure, there's team aspects to it, but like at the end of the day, like I'm here, if you're here, you're gonna be here to win the race.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Like that's, that's your goal, right?
- 43:06Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 43:07Speaker 2: yeah, he's got christ on his shoulder, you know, yeah, he's he's another wild boy, he's a.
- 43:11Speaker 1: He's a guy like hayden a lot.
- 43:12Speaker 2: He's cool yeah, absolute monster.
- 43:14Speaker 2: I love those kind of people that just like aren't afraid to just like voice their opinion in that way and like, yes, like maybe you're going to ruffle some feathers, but you know what?
- 43:22Speaker 2: Like I mean if, if it works out for you, like you know, fuck those people who like told you you couldn't like do something or whatever.
- 43:29Speaker 2: I love those people that like have this crazy goals and are just like you know, they don't care who else is at the start line.
- 43:35Speaker 2: They're gonna fucking like run this and we're like you know, yeah, we can like shake hands after the race, and so like a perfect example is when I was racing, uh, back in 2019, I raced no business hundermiler out in um, virginia, kentucky area, and I was racing against carl melzer and uh, we were running together, uh really for 70 miles, first and second, me and him, and uh, we were kind of trading back the lead and stuff.
- 44:01Speaker 2: And we got to mile 80 and we kind of were just talking about like the finish line and stuff.
- 44:04Speaker 2: And he looks over at me and I swear to god he goes hey, man, like you know you're a good kid and stuff, but like don't think we're gonna like share this win.
- 44:12Speaker 2: You know we're not gonna run across the finish line holding hands like fuck that shit, like we're gonna duke it out and and I was like dude, fuck, dude, I fucking love you this is so dope, you know.
- 44:21Speaker 1: dude.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Good on him for fucking saying that Like we're not holding hands.
- 44:24Speaker 2: It's not about that, because I'm sure, like in his mind, he's looking at me and he's like, oh you know, young, dumb and full of cum and like my idols for that reason, and just getting my ass kicked with during him, like by him during that race, and then you know, witnessing his Appalachian trail speed record Like he is just like top tier.
- 44:45Speaker 2: I love his outlook on life.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a cool, didn't he?
- 44:48Speaker 1: Did he move?
- 44:49Speaker 1: Didn't he move to the San Juans, or is he?
- 44:51Speaker 2: I thought he was going to move to Ridgeway Colorado.
- 44:54Speaker 1: That's know if he's still around.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Apparently the wasatch is getting a little crowded for him, which I totally understand, you know so this is my second time out here.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I came out here for cirque brighton as well, but didn't explore.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I have a little more time on my hands this trip and like, yeah, dude, you guys are it's busy here, like it's, it's a bummer it's a lot of shit in a small area yeah, it's you know, and I mean I'm sure you've heard about, like the gondola project what's going on with that?
- 45:17Speaker 1: I saw the signs around.
- 45:19Speaker 2: So they want to um, man, I don't even know how much money this would be, but um, they want to throw this massive gondola up little cottonwood canyon.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Uh, just to impact, to really decrease the traffic in little cottonwood canyon, which I totally get you know like we are within 30 minutes of four world-class ski resorts.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Mainly I, I'm biased to little cottonwood just because out in snowbird, but um, it's fair yeah, and it's just now.
- 45:45Speaker 2: They're kind of have this whole gondola project where I think the, the owners of uh, the the alta area and the snowbird area are kind of coming to terms with trying to get this thing built.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Of course, it's not gonna really be near done until like 2034 kind of thing, so when the olympics are here maybe we'll have a gondola but uh yeah, other than that, it's kind of just.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I don't know it ruffles a lot of feathers, these kind of like, especially here in the wasatch, just a lot of, uh, swinging dicks, flinging egos and stuff like that.
- 46:12Speaker 2: But um, no, it's just the.
- 46:14Speaker 2: I just want to put this huge gondola in little common canyon, try to decrease the traffic instead of looking at, you know, possibly other options that are that are at their disposal.
- 46:22Speaker 2: But and then they kind of want to tax the shit out of us, to kind of like oh fuck that.
- 46:26Speaker 2: To pay for that you know I get uh where it could do some good, but also get where it could do some harm.
- 46:33Speaker 2: You know we don't want this place to to look quite like europe, you know yeah in certain parts of europe at least, where everything's just like boom, boom, boom boom.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Oh, and that's the thing like there's a lot of wildlife here, there's a lot of shit going on like it's.
- 46:43Speaker 1: I was, you know.
- 46:44Speaker 1: So one thing that did surprise me, and I didn't realize this until I was dry I drove up both of the canyons today and it says no dogs and I was like, oh, that makes a lot of fucking sense, like I don't know it's because of the water drainage and everything like that Makes sense.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I was like I never thought about that, cause in Colorado we can have dog bring.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I bring my dogs everywhere, you know.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yeah, the watershed super like.
- 47:04Speaker 2: It's weird out here.
- 47:05Speaker 2: It's like cause I guess a lot of the city's water flows from these canyons going down.
- 47:10Speaker 2: And I actually got oh my God, I almost got a ticket one time Cause when I was living in Alta brutally yelled at by someone saying would you like it if someone you know shoved their feet in your water, like what are you doing, you know?
- 47:31Speaker 2: And I just had no idea.
- 47:32Speaker 1: yeah, you don't think about it like that really dude, I lay down in the streams all the time in colorado.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Okay, well you're gonna yell at this moose over here.
- 47:38Speaker 1: That's in the fucking water taking a shit, man, insane, that's funny.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, it makes sense though I don't know I I get it like it's just it was interesting to me because I don't know, I get it Like it's just, it was interesting to me Cause like I don't know, You've you've raced in Colorado a ton.
- 47:51Speaker 1: You've been out to Colorado, obviously, and you've been in the San Juan's, you've raced there and even like number summer and stuff like that.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Like I don't know man, Like I gotta say, like you guys got some like the Wasatch is pretty sweet yeah.
- 48:09Speaker 2: We have.
- 48:09Speaker 2: We have a lot of good trail athletes that come out of here too.
- 48:13Speaker 2: I mean, I know we were talking about Caleb Olson but you know he's just kind of scratching the surface of of the Salt Lake scene.
- 48:19Speaker 2: I mean, we have so many really good contenders at races and it's always nice that we like usually tend to show up kind of in a pack.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:26Speaker 2: It'll be like oh fuck, Like, here's the Salt Lake city guys.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Boulder versus Salt Lake city.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Here we go, that kid's a that's another wild boy, gary Corker.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Yeah, very wild boy.
- 48:35Speaker 2: He's a.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a.
- 48:37Speaker 2: He's using his pit Vipers nicely with all the stuff he's doing.
- 48:40Speaker 1: He's funny.
- 48:43Speaker 1: I mean you said Jimmy Elam, you guys got Tyler Green now.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Anthony Costales.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I forgot about Anthony.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 48:50Speaker 1: And then, on the women's side, what Leah, you've got Rachel Drake.
- 48:56Speaker 2: We had.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Grayson, I get to race her in a couple days, that'll be fun, we had Grayson Murphy I think she kind of moves around a little bit now.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Yeah, she went to the U.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean fuck, it's, there's so many people and whether or not they live here anymore.
- 49:14Speaker 1: But it's like, oh, dude, like you can always tell too, like this morning, when I ran over to alta to go or drove over to alta to go, run, like I saw trail runners everywhere, like running down the canyon, and I was like, oh man, like this is the spot, like you know, they go hard, like it reminds me of like a boulder or like a colorado springs, you know it's cool to like going like today.
- 49:26Speaker 2: You know, I just went on my run literally one minute across the street up bear trap there and just like ran into two people, I know, and it's just like oh fuck, dude like yeah, I forget that we both just live in this area where we have access to a tremendous amount of single track, and we both just happen to be on this same amount of single track, you know it's a trip.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna come back out like I think it, like there's just so much to explore, you know, like there's just like temp and like there's just so like I've never been on Grandeur.
- 49:51Speaker 1: That's another one.
- 49:52Speaker 1: I want to go run up Like I don't know.
- 50:09Speaker 2: I'm just kind of figuring out likeason duray, who is a absolute animal.
- 50:14Speaker 2: You'll see him on pretty much every mountain segment here in the wasatch.
- 50:17Speaker 2: But uh, until jack kensel just just knocked it off, so it is possible.
- 50:21Speaker 2: But um, yeah, that's kind of the.
- 50:23Speaker 2: We always call it kind of like schemo mountain because, like a lot of the schem schema guys go there and they just it's a perfect vk is it?
- 50:29Speaker 2: Really it's like 3 300 feet of vert and like 2.2 miles oh, wow three.
- 50:34Speaker 2: So it's especially that second mile.
- 50:35Speaker 2: It's such a perfect like schema fitness there, so a lot of guys go out and test their self.
- 50:40Speaker 1: It's our little fully you know, okay, yeah, oh, dude have you done that before, or you.
- 50:45Speaker 2: I want to, so you have to you gotta go, yeah, like that chamonix v cave and there's like a million switchbacks.
- 50:50Speaker 1: It's just and it starts at like six o'clock at night, the official one.
- 50:53Speaker 1: It's like what the fuck I?
- 50:54Speaker 2: don't know why they do that wear a helmet and everything so sick yeah.
- 50:58Speaker 1: No, I think that's when I get up to.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna go to europe next year or the year after and I'm probably gonna do like other than you like straight up races.
- 51:05Speaker 2: I think I'm just gonna book like three or four vks to go do just for fun that's the way to do it, man, so you can like eliminate the stupid taper process yeah yeah, it's like I feel like I'm gonna get out to europe and I'm gonna have maybe like seven, eight days until race day, and then I like I feel like I'm already kind of in the taper process.
- 51:22Speaker 2: When I get out there, of course I'm gonna get some runs in and stuff and and all that that.
- 51:26Speaker 2: But it's like, oh fuck, dude, I never get to really experience these places.
- 51:30Speaker 1: It's all these things you want to do.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just insane.
- 51:32Speaker 1: And after the well it sucks, Cause you're on arguably one of the hardest hundred miles on the planet, so it's like you're going to be wrecked afterwards if you go hard.
- 51:44Speaker 2: And so it's so funny, like the day after like ccc and you know, utb, all the stage events, because everyone's like out and about finally, and you just see everyone walking around like zombies around chominy, hobbling around just like, oh man yeah, it's brutal.
- 51:58Speaker 1: It's brutal, yeah, man.
- 51:59Speaker 1: No, it's just like I don't know like I feel and it's interesting to me too, because I I noticed, like I don't know if it's just because you guys are all really fit and you guys all train together and it's like a small team like as far as like the wasatch guys, but like, or the salt lake contingent, but like you guys all do for some reason, really well at like cc, like whether, if you, I mean I would look at like ccc, a 30, whatever place finish is fucking solid, right and like.
- 52:24Speaker 1: However you guys do like and caleb's had great results.
- 52:27Speaker 1: It just seems like you guys are very consistent with these mountain races.
- 52:30Speaker 1: So totally.
- 52:31Speaker 2: It seems like all of us to have that same outlook of like.
- 52:33Speaker 2: You know, some of the guys like to do um, they have like marathon background so they'll go out to like Moab and do like the, the mad moose events out there and stuff.
- 52:41Speaker 2: But the ones I tend to correlate with more yeah, there's real gritty ones that you know, the Jimmy Elams, the Caleb Olsons, the Garrett Corcorans and, of course, Anthony Costales but all those guys that really like to do these mountainous 100K, 100 mile, 50 mile, you know around that area that, yeah, just like the fucking grind.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's funny and Jimmy's an interesting character too, because I feel like he's one of those people that's not like super active on social media and unless you like know him, know him like, then you know nothing about the guy.
- 53:10Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 53:11Speaker 2: He's like, you just know that he shows up and he, like fucking, is usually always on the podium yeah, man, yeah yeah it was so dope seeing him finish uh run rabbit run.
- 53:19Speaker 2: I think that was last year yeah um, just he finally, like like you never see pain in jimmy's face and it drives me bonkers because he's so relaxed, he's so composed and like I don't know if you saw the video of him going through the finish, but he looked like dead and he was hurting dude.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's how I feel about Caleb too.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Like these guys just oh man, yeah, they just do not like feel pain.
- 53:40Speaker 2: It drives me bonkers, dude.
- 53:41Speaker 2: What was it like?
- 53:42Speaker 2: Cause I've never I've never met Jack.
- 53:43Speaker 2: I admire Jack a lot.
- 53:43Speaker 1: What was it like?
- 53:44Speaker 1: Because I've never I've never met jack.
- 53:46Speaker 1: I admire jack a lot.
- 53:47Speaker 1: What was it like running with him like it was dude he's, oh man, he's such a good dude.
- 53:53Speaker 2: It was I, literally I went for like a west granger time trial the day he broke jason dray's record and uh, yeah, he is.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Just, you know he's a he's a big dude.
- 54:03Speaker 2: He's a big stocky dude, like you know.
- 54:05Speaker 2: He reminds me a lot of like joey campanelli, um, but yeah, he's an absolute monster and his outlook on life like he really like just he takes in like every bit of information to make him this much faster.
- 54:17Speaker 2: Like he's always looking at the things that you would never even think about to to be like oh wow, like, oh shit, like I should probably be doing this, yeah, if I want to like get better.
- 54:26Speaker 2: And he's just, yeah, living proof that like he's very dialed.
- 54:29Speaker 1: I mean even like with his.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I mean he's pretty, pretty vocal and like out there and put it, put some of his training out there and like the altitude he sleeps at and how he did for this.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Like I remember he came out to us and did um.
- 54:40Speaker 1: I didn't even know he did it until I saw it on strava was he went after the um the incline record yeah yeah, and like dude was just so, broke it down like so methodically and I was like, oh shit, I never thought about the way he did it and he does.
- 54:52Speaker 1: You know, I think I know he did a lot of treadmill work and just a lot of different things ahead of time.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Um, but yeah, just like to get I don't know like I I would imagine he has a like a significantly above average vo2 max and is like an above averagely fit guy, but like he doesn't, like he looked like you said, he's a big dude, so like he doesn't look like a remy or somebody like that.
- 55:13Speaker 2: And then just to go and show up and like throw down a top 10 10 on the incline, like that's insane and and for him like to be vulnerable, to be like oh fuck, like I thought I could do this and I was nowhere near close to remy and like, wow, yeah, I'm okay with that, because Remy is, you know, fantastic, he's afraid.
- 55:29Speaker 2: He's not afraid to be like oh shit, you know what?
- 55:31Speaker 2: like I need to train more yeah, like yeah like you know, I this was the best that I had on this day and like you know what like no excuses.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, and you see, here's so many fucking excuses in this before now, because that was the same with when he went for I mean, he only broke Jason Dre's Wes Grandier record by like five or six seconds, wow.
- 55:49Speaker 2: So it was like you know, down to the wire and he was like dude, like he was like I gave it everything and I'm like fuck.
- 55:55Speaker 2: I love to hear that, you know.
- 55:56Speaker 2: He was, like you know, showing homage to the previous CR, fkt, whatever you want to call it.
- 56:02Speaker 2: That's what I love about him.
- 56:04Speaker 2: He's like dude.
- 56:04Speaker 2: This was fucking hard, like you know, and I'm okay to say that wow no, it's so cool.
- 56:09Speaker 1: I, I, yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I hope we can get him out to the springs at some point in time back again for something like that, yeah it was cool to see him race um at yeah, dude, finally he did a race, yeah he was like I bet his outlook is like oh fuck, man, I should probably do a little bit of this.
- 56:22Speaker 2: You know, like I get it man, like scouting the route, like mount blanc and stuff.
- 56:25Speaker 2: That shit is so epic and it takes a lot of time and preparation to to have it on that one certain day.
- 56:31Speaker 2: But I love it when, when he showed up to that star line and actually just like on this day, like I'm gonna send it, and this is what happened yeah, so great.
- 56:41Speaker 1: You know it's funny he was my dark horse that if jim didn't become the first american to win utmb, I think he could have done it.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I really do.
- 56:47Speaker 1: I still do.
- 56:53Speaker 2: He'll take UTMB and he will put it into one 16th and then each part of that 16th, he'll be like, okay, I need to do this, I need to train for this part of it.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Yeah, just oh, man, insane.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Yeah, interesting Cap.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Dude, we're already at about an hour.
- 57:05Speaker 1: So we're already at about an hour, so we're gonna get into some some wild questions.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Now we'll start with some easy ones, straightforward, like I just want to know who inspires you.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Oh, man, fuck, I really don't.
- 57:20Speaker 2: I inspire myself, no, I'm just, um, yeah, I mean obviously, the the goat killing jornay, um, yeah, he's pretty obsessed with that guy, the jacks, the, uh, the jason duray's.
- 57:30Speaker 2: I think jason duray, more than I think he's probably at the top, top of my list.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Honestly, I mean, yeah, just that overall preparation of like, I mean, he was just he's the, he was the top dog here in the wasatch.
- 57:41Speaker 2: He's still in some sort of senses is, but, um, no, I, I gotta keep it local him.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Or, uh, my mentor into ski mountaineering and my mentor actually the reason I live in utah, uh, joey campanelli joey camps.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Joey, former nolan's record holder.
- 57:57Speaker 1: I sold technically a nolan's record holder but like yeah, no sleep.
- 58:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that kid's a kid's a freak, that's cool he's still he's a.
- 58:04Speaker 1: He's a utah boy, I didn't yeah, no, he's still here.
- 58:06Speaker 2: He's still here.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Oh wow, he travels out to colorado a lot in the summers, but, yeah, I always tend to forget that he is the reason that I am here that's so cool, man.
- 58:15Speaker 1: What was that like living in alta?
- 58:17Speaker 2: it was.
- 58:17Speaker 2: It was like a second college you guys like all packed in like, just like two roommates, total, you know, partying it up a little bit, um, but I was happy to like get out of the lodge and still live up there like an apartment with people Cause then I was just like, oh dude, you know I'm like backcountry skiing every day, like I'm staying motivated and stuff, but uh, yeah, you're forced to ski in the winter up there Like you can't like around.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it was like nothing else to do.
- 58:51Speaker 2: You got it.
- 58:52Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 58:52Speaker 2: What do you wear?
- 58:53Speaker 2: Are you going to wear for UTMB?
- 58:54Speaker 2: After using those Adidas Super Shoes at Speedgoat, I think I'm going to wear those.
- 58:57Speaker 2: The shop that I do some work for they hooked me up with a pair of Hoka Tecton 3s.
- 59:03Speaker 2: I'm like, oh wow, this is the shoe that essentially won UTmb, so I think I'm gonna bring that one out there.
- 59:09Speaker 2: But uh, yeah, those adidas terex, uh super shoes, are they really like the day after speed go, besides my dumb ass falling at the finish line?
- 59:18Speaker 2: You know which I meant to do, listeners?
- 59:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally meant to do that, but uh, other than that, like my legs did not feel bad at all, like they really cushion that downhill for you especially.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Interesting, especially that last one.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I've heard amazing things.
- 59:31Speaker 1: The only ifs I've heard are if you have enough, like if your ankles can hold up.
- 59:36Speaker 1: I've heard a lot of people roll their ankles in it, but other than that, I hear they're absolutely crazy.
- 59:40Speaker 2: That's literally what I did at the end there.
- 59:42Speaker 2: I don't know if you saw my foot kind of go, yeah, yeah close this door, sorry.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Keep the uh, keep the bugs out.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Um dude, what's your take on the aliens?
- 59:59Speaker 2: um, they're real, they're definitely real oh, for sure, yeah they're uh, no, they're, uh, they're pretty sick.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, yeah, okay are you, uh, are you believer in like bigfoot and shit like that?
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: oh, yeah, yeah yeah, all that conspiracy stuff, I eat it up.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Um, yeah, I, I think it's it's cool to believe in that stuff oh, for sure bigfoot, like when I did the pacific crest trail, I remember like reading there's this app you have called go hooks and it basically tells you how far you are from towns and water sources and stuff.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: And uh, I remember reading some somewhere in Oregon uh, the description of this road and it was like Bigfoot has been cited three times at this road, you know, and shit like that, and I just I eat that stuff off especially coming from like the Southern Appalachia, the Hills there, there, like that, stuff's just that country's dense back in there.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, oh shit fair enough.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Fair enough, what's all right.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: So last question what's your, uh, what's your take on ai?
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: I think I wish that I would have had it back when I went to school and I probably wouldn't have dropped out like a dumbass in my first year in college.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my God, the people that like go to college now.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: I mean, like Jesus, do you even like have to read a book?
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: I mean I'm sorry, I hope I don't offend anyone out there I mean, my girlfriend's going to get her master's right now.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: So, like you know, like I respect, like staying at the goal and persevering to get there.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: But like, yeah, with AI, it's like why even try?
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Dude, I saw like on this Instagram reel.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: The reason I ask is because I'm always so curious to see what different people have to say about this.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Like.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I saw this like Instagram reel the other day where these kids are basically using this like new course era AI where they'll like literally be taking an exam.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: And like you'll just use, like you'll just it'll like identify the question and just like answer the question for you.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I'm just like what the fuck?
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: I mean it's scary, we use it for work for like, um, like budgeting, yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Hey, you know, make me a spreadsheet of, uh, you know gifting product and sop and you know keeping a budget, and it just fucking ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like holy shit like this is scary.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Yeah, well, dude, it's only a matter of time before it's like our robot overlords.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Bro, we're gonna have cyber trucks.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Before we know, we're all gonna be whipping them around I saw one today.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Actually I saw you'll see a few here in utah, that's like that low-key, like flex here yeah is, I think, the mormons like their cyber trucks.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Now they're tired of like their diesels.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: You know, know.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: They're just going to go full on, jesus Christ.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: It's so funny.
