- 1:24All right, everyone.
- 1:25So this is Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:27This is a series or season five and
- 1:31it's episode.
- 1:32Yes, it's actually show 24 and it is
- 1:36episode number four.
- 1:41It's Tuesday.
- 1:42Reinvention is allowed, folks.
- 1:44Yes, it is.
- 1:45So welcome, everyone, to the Inspirations for Your
- 1:47Life show.
- 1:49I am John C.
- 1:50Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:56podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student and
- 1:59a grateful published author and a passionate lifelong
- 2:03learner.
- 2:04Today, I'm stepping into a truth that can
- 2:08completely transform your life.
- 2:10Reinvention is allowed.
- 2:12Yes.
- 2:14Amidst what other people are telling you that
- 2:15it's not, I'm here to tell you it
- 2:17is allowed.
- 2:18You don't have to stay who you were
- 2:20last year.
- 2:22Nope.
- 2:22Growth means evolution, not loyalty to an outdated
- 2:25version of yourself.
- 2:27You see, ladies and gentlemen, you can outgrow
- 2:28versions of yourself that were built just to
- 2:31survive.
- 2:32Survival got you here, but it is not
- 2:35where you're meant to stay.
- 2:36That's the truth.
- 2:37And changing your mind is a sign of
- 2:40growth, not hypocrisy.
- 2:43It shows awareness, reflection and courage.
- 2:48But a lot of people, you know, they
- 2:50get stuck in that corner, they get stuck
- 2:53in where they want to go.
- 2:55They don't realize that they actually have the
- 2:57power to adjust.
- 2:58They're too busy, well, paying attention to people
- 3:02around them.
- 3:04People that may not even have their greatest
- 3:07interest at heart.
- 3:09So I think that's an important thing for
- 3:11us to understand.
- 3:12You know, ladies and gentlemen, you are allowed
- 3:14to pivot careers, to change your mind.
- 3:18Even if you invested years in a different
- 3:20path, time spent learning is never wasted and
- 3:25can help you along the path you choose
- 3:27to go.
- 3:28You see, ladies and gentlemen, you can shift
- 3:30communities when your environment no longer aligns with
- 3:33your vision.
- 3:33It happens.
- 3:35Energy matters more than the familiarity that you
- 3:38have.
- 3:39You see, ladies and gentlemen, a lot of
- 3:40people get stuck because, well, they feel that
- 3:43they don't have a way to change.
- 3:44They don't feel that they have a way
- 3:46to grow.
- 3:47And I'm here to tell you, ladies and
- 3:48gentlemen, that you can grow, that you can
- 3:49change.
- 3:51It's just that there's a lot of naysayers
- 3:52out there and these naysayers will keep you
- 3:55from becoming a better version of yourself.
- 3:58And we need to basically stop paying attention
- 4:00to them.
- 4:00Ladies and gentlemen, your past choices do not
- 4:06cancel your future options.
- 4:07Let me say that again.
- 4:09Your past choices do not cancel your future
- 4:11options.
- 4:12Your past choices do not cancel your future
- 4:16options.
- 4:16They actually inform you and they do not
- 4:20define you.
- 4:21Many people think that where they've been or
- 4:24where they've gone is the only place they
- 4:26could be.
- 4:26And I'm here to tell you that no,
- 4:28that is not true at all.
- 4:30But a lot of people get stuck with
- 4:33that story.
- 4:35You know, ladies and gentlemen, old friendships can
- 4:38expire without anyone being the villain.
- 4:41You know, maybe you drift apart because, well,
- 4:46you just do.
- 4:47Life change, people's likes, differences change.
- 4:52And that can be emotional for a lot
- 4:56of people.
- 4:57The most important thing is to recognize it,
- 4:59not chastise yourself or others for it.
- 5:02Recognize it and move on.
- 5:04Sometimes, ladies and gentlemen, people grow in different
- 5:06directions.
- 5:08They grow out of love.
- 5:09They grow out of friendship.
- 5:11It's not a great thing to happen, but
- 5:13it does happen sometimes.
- 5:15And I think if we are not so,
- 5:18let's say, married to a situation, we can
- 5:22understand why and just move on.
- 5:26Instead of, oh, my gosh, this is where
- 5:27we are.
- 5:28But we can do more than that, guys.
- 5:31It's just we get stuck in a certain
- 5:32position and that position holds us back.
- 5:35And the position keeps us from, well, getting
- 5:40to higher ground, to better territory.
- 5:43I think that's really what it's about.
- 5:45You know, ladies and gentlemen, as I said,
- 5:47people do grow in different directions and you
- 5:48are allowed to want different things now.
- 5:52Nothing wrong with that.
- 5:53Your desires will evolve and change as your
- 5:56awareness expands.
- 5:57And I think that's the greatest thing of
- 5:58life is that as we grow and as
- 6:01we learn more, our likes and dislikes, they
- 6:05change.
- 6:07That's the whole point of, you know, having
- 6:10freedom, freedom of choice.
- 6:13And I've said it's okay to do this
- 6:14as long as you don't harm, hurt, despair,
- 6:17or basically hurt anyone in any way, including
- 6:22physically, mentally, or spiritually.
- 6:24You don't, ladies and gentlemen, have to keep
- 6:26playing a role that drains you.
- 6:28I know so many people that are locked
- 6:29in this prison and they wish they could
- 6:31get out.
- 6:32They can.
- 6:33If it costs you your peace, it's too
- 6:36expensive.
- 6:36And why do you keep playing that role?
- 6:38Why do you keep saying it's okay when
- 6:42really, guys, it's not okay?
- 6:46Because each day that you continue to go
- 6:48on with that story, a story that you
- 6:51don't enjoy or love, it probs you of
- 6:56who you're meant to be.
- 6:59Ladies and gentlemen, reinvention can be quiet.
- 7:03You don't need to announce your growth to
- 7:07validate it.
- 7:07Many people think you got to get on
- 7:08the top of a big building.
- 7:10You don't.
- 7:11Growth that's quiet will have a lot of
- 7:14power down the road.
- 7:16People will recognize it.
- 7:17But you don't do it for people recognizing
- 7:19it.
- 7:19You do it because it's the right thing
- 7:21for you.
- 7:22And I know so many people that they
- 7:25just pretend to go a certain way.
- 7:27Why?
- 7:28Because they think they can.
- 7:30Because they think it'll be okay.
- 7:32And that's a big problem for a lot
- 7:37of people.
- 7:38You know?
- 7:40And these people don't get the fact that's
- 7:44what it's about.
- 7:46They don't get it.
- 7:52And I think sometimes people think there's no
- 7:55way to change.
- 7:56But there are many ways to change.
- 7:59Many, many ways.
- 8:00So, ladies and gentlemen, you can be a
- 8:03beginner, again, at any age or stage in
- 8:07your life.
- 8:09Starting fresh is a sign of strength.
- 8:11It's not weakness.
- 8:14I don't know if you know this, ladies
- 8:16and gentlemen, but you are not too much.
- 8:18You may simply be in an environment that
- 8:21cannot match your capacity.
- 8:23And then it's time to change, right?
- 8:26We've all heard the story of the fish,
- 8:28right?
- 8:28The fish that's in the, let's say, the
- 8:31aquarium.
- 8:32And the fish can't grow that well.
- 8:34But when the fish is in this huge
- 8:37aquarium or in this huge aquapond, it grows
- 8:42bigger.
- 8:44It becomes more.
- 8:46Same thing happens with you and with your
- 8:48mind.
- 8:48When you put yourself into a small, little,
- 8:51compartmentalized area, you stay locked and stuck.
- 8:56But when you open up and you have
- 8:59more room to spread your wings, life can
- 9:03really emerge and change.
- 9:05You know, ladies and gentlemen, your new boundaries
- 9:07will confuse people who benefited from the old
- 9:10ones.
- 9:11Because, well, they like the fact that you
- 9:14were just there.
- 9:15That you were just, well, manipulating yourself so
- 9:18that they could get, well, the bigger end
- 9:22of the stick.
- 9:23You see, that confusion is not your responsibility.
- 9:26And a lot of people will be sad
- 9:27with you because you changed.
- 9:28But that change is actually one of the
- 9:31best things you could have ever done.
- 9:34See, people will not tell you when something
- 9:37is wrong for you.
- 9:39If it's working for them, if it's helping
- 9:41them in their life.
- 9:43Some people are selfish.
- 9:44It's not everybody.
- 9:45But I want you to be aware of
- 9:47the fact that these things happen in life.
- 9:50And when they happen, this is your cue
- 9:53to say, wait a minute, am I going
- 9:55down the right path?
- 9:56Or am I just eluding myself and basically
- 10:00depleting my own energy, my own inner battery?
- 10:04You see, ladies and gentlemen, you don't need
- 10:05everyone's approval to evolve.
- 10:07Many people think you do.
- 10:09I know I used to believe you do.
- 10:11You do not need other people's approval.
- 10:15Approval is optional.
- 10:18Alignment is essential.
- 10:19If you get approval and there's alignment, great.
- 10:24If you don't get approval and you have
- 10:25alignment, that is the key.
- 10:28Alignment is what you are moving in sync
- 10:32with.
- 10:34The choices you make.
- 10:36The people you connect with.
- 10:39And that's about the energy that you have
- 10:42and the energy that you basically radiate out.
- 10:47You know, you can change your style every
- 10:49day.
- 10:50Your story.
- 10:51And even your standards.
- 10:54Reinvention touches every layer of your life.
- 10:58Not just one layer, guys, but every single
- 11:00layer.
- 11:01And I think that's hard for a lot
- 11:03of people when they realize, oh my gosh,
- 11:04my life is suddenly going to change.
- 11:06Now what do I do?
- 11:08People get very scared with the fact that
- 11:12that happens.
- 11:14And when that happens, people just get a
- 11:18little bit crazy.
- 11:21And I say they get crazy because of
- 11:25what's going on.
- 11:28And what's going on is this whole key
- 11:30that you're being, well, fenced in.
- 11:36And you're probably being fenced in against your
- 11:38own will because something is working for someone
- 11:41else.
- 11:42So you keep doing it because it's keeping
- 11:44them happy.
- 11:45But is it depleting your energy?
- 11:47Is it depleting your energy and your resources?
- 11:49It is okay, ladies and gentlemen, if your
- 11:53old self would not recognize you.
- 11:57That means you have grown beyond the limitations
- 12:01that you once had.
- 12:04People that believe it's about your past.
- 12:09People that believe it's about what you can
- 12:11do for them.
- 12:13That's a problem.
- 12:15That's just going to burn you out.
- 12:19Healing, ladies and gentlemen, will change your personality.
- 12:24It's not easy to accept healing if you've
- 12:26never had it before.
- 12:28You see, you become calmer, clearer, and more
- 12:31intentional with every bit of healing that happens.
- 12:35But the first time you get healed, you're
- 12:36like, oh my gosh, what do I do?
- 12:38How do I respond?
- 12:40What do I say?
- 12:43I think that's a big challenge for a
- 12:46lot of people because they don't know what
- 12:48to say.
- 12:49They don't know where they're supposed to be.
- 12:51They don't understand that even though lots of
- 12:54people around them are happy, they're depleting their
- 12:57own energy.
- 12:59And sometimes when people realize this, it's way
- 13:01too late.
- 13:03They burn down so deeply.
- 13:06And that burnout hits them all of a
- 13:10sudden.
- 13:10But it's not about something that just hits
- 13:15them.
- 13:16It's been slowly robbing them their entire time.
- 13:24I think that's a very important thing to
- 13:27understand that whole concept.
- 13:30Reinvention, guys, it's not betrayal.
- 13:34Okay?
- 13:35It is alignment with who you are and
- 13:40who you are becoming.
- 13:42And I think whenever there's any kind of
- 13:44change, people, they fight it.
- 13:46They're like, well, maybe I shouldn't go this
- 13:48way.
- 13:49Maybe I shouldn't do this because it's not
- 13:53what other people want.
- 13:55I got news for you.
- 13:57What other people want may not be the
- 14:00best for you.
- 14:02You are allowed to delete old chapters in
- 14:08your life.
- 14:09Not everything deserves a sequel.
- 14:12And you can move from people-pleasing to
- 14:15self-respect.
- 14:16I know I was a people-pleaser for
- 14:18many years.
- 14:19And all I found out is that it
- 14:20burned me out.
- 14:21And that the people I was pleasing weren't
- 14:25even reciprocating.
- 14:26You see, that's a shift that will redefine
- 14:29your entire life.
- 14:30But this doesn't happen overnight.
- 14:32This happens when you get in alignment.
- 14:40And when you get in alignment, it's like
- 14:42you start to see things differently in your
- 14:46life.
- 14:47You start to notice things that maybe weren't
- 14:49there before, right?
- 14:51And not saying that they're bad or anything
- 14:53like that or even they're good.
- 14:55But what we are saying is that they
- 14:56are depleting your precious energy.
- 15:00Your precious energy.
- 15:01That's what they're depleting.
- 15:02Your precious energy.
- 15:05You don't have to explain every change you
- 15:09make.
- 15:10No.
- 15:11Not everyone is meant to understand your journey.
- 15:15And not only are they not meant to
- 15:17understand it, some people may not like your
- 15:19journey.
- 15:20That's perfectly okay.
- 15:22And it's not rude if people don't like
- 15:27your journey.
- 15:29You move through life based on the things
- 15:35that make the most sense for you.
- 15:38And your identity, guys, is just a draft.
- 15:44It's not a finished product.
- 15:46It's the initial essay.
- 15:48It's the initial letter.
- 15:53You are constantly editing and refining who you
- 15:56are.
- 15:57And if you think that you're going to
- 15:58be done tomorrow, you're not.
- 16:00It's going to keep going again and again
- 16:03and again.
- 16:04But I think we need to be kind
- 16:05to ourselves.
- 16:06A lot of times when people hear this,
- 16:09they're like, oh, my gosh, what am I
- 16:10going to do?
- 16:11And then they get very abrupt with themselves.
- 16:15And they treat themselves in a manner that
- 16:18is harsh.
- 16:20I said to you guys once before, if
- 16:22you cannot be kind to yourself, you're never
- 16:26going to be able to be kind to
- 16:27others.
- 16:27And I think that's a huge thing that
- 16:30most people will never, ever get.
- 16:33They never, ever will get that whole concept.
- 16:38Be kind to yourself.
- 16:40Love yourself.
- 16:43Even if other people around you don't.
- 16:47You'll find the right crew that will.
- 16:52Growth will cost you comfort.
- 16:56But comfort has already been costing you your
- 16:59potential.
- 17:00And I've said to you many times before,
- 17:03you have to practice getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
- 17:09It's not painful.
- 17:11But it is uncomfortable.
- 17:13And it's something that's going to make you
- 17:16say, well, gee, should I go down this
- 17:17path?
- 17:18Or should I do something else?
- 17:21People don't like what I'm doing.
- 17:23But it might be the best thing for
- 17:25you.
- 17:27You might be with the wrong group of
- 17:29people.
- 17:29You know, ladies and gentlemen, you are allowed
- 17:32to reset your life midweek.
- 17:35Not just on January 1st.
- 17:38You can reset it any time you want.
- 17:40If it makes sense for you and if
- 17:42it's going to help you get aligned with
- 17:44the things that you want in life.
- 17:46You see, ladies and gentlemen, change does not
- 17:48follow a calendar.
- 17:49Even though many people think it does, like
- 17:51open enrollment, you can only do it certain
- 17:53times a year.
- 17:55Your life is not about a calendar.
- 17:59So if you need to reset it, go
- 18:01ahead and reset it.
- 18:05And be kind to yourself about it.
- 18:08You know, love yourself.
- 18:11The more you can do this, the more
- 18:13that you're going to get confidence in yourself.
- 18:18The more you're going to get confidence.
- 18:20You see, you can be grateful for your
- 18:24past and still choose to leave it behind.
- 18:28Well, John, that's a real interesting conundrum.
- 18:30Yes, it is.
- 18:31Maybe you had a situation with a friend.
- 18:33Maybe you had a falling out with them.
- 18:36You could be grateful for the friendship that
- 18:38you had while you two were together.
- 18:41You can still choose to leave that part
- 18:43of your life behind you.
- 18:45You could choose to be grateful for maybe
- 18:49a coworker that worked with you.
- 18:53Suddenly there was a falling out or maybe
- 18:55they left.
- 18:56You could be grateful for the time you
- 18:59had together.
- 19:01And I think when we talk about being
- 19:03grateful, this gets a lot of people to
- 19:08think, well, why should I be grateful if
- 19:11I'm not getting what I want?
- 19:12I know.
- 19:14So when you're grateful, you actually cause certain
- 19:18endorphins to release in your brain and body.
- 19:21And that gets you to have more confidence.
- 19:23The more confidence gets you to think differently.
- 19:26It gets you to act differently.
- 19:28It gets you to talk differently.
- 19:30It gets you to respond differently.
- 19:32But it's lonely there.
- 19:36It's lonely because you might be the only
- 19:39one that's doing it in the beginning.
- 19:41And you figure, oh, my gosh, I don't
- 19:43have any company.
- 19:43I don't want to do this if I
- 19:45don't have company.
- 19:47Don't fall into that trap.
- 19:50Be grateful for it.
- 19:52And leave it in your past.
- 19:54You see, ladies and gentlemen, appreciation does not
- 19:56require attachment.
- 19:59When you are grateful for something, you don't
- 20:02have to be attached to it.
- 20:06You're just grateful that it's in your life.
- 20:09You're grateful that it happened to you or
- 20:11that you received it.
- 20:15Reinventing yourself, it's an act of self-compassion.
- 20:19We've been talking about this for a while,
- 20:20that you've got to be kind to yourself.
- 20:22You've got to love yourself.
- 20:24When you love yourself, other people will start
- 20:28to love and like you as well.
- 20:30Reinventing yourself is an act of self-compassion,
- 20:33and it is choosing growth over stagnation.
- 20:36It's going to get uncomfortable sometimes.
- 20:39Deal with it.
- 20:40The people meant for you will adapt or
- 20:43appear as you evolve.
- 20:45Don't think you need to adjust to people.
- 20:48The right people will show up and align
- 20:52with the energy that you put out.
- 20:56Alignment attracts alignment.
- 20:58It does.
- 21:01It's like a magnet, right?
- 21:05Positive and negative.
- 21:09Opposites attract.
- 21:13You owe your future self more than you
- 21:18owe your old image.
- 21:20Your future self is more worthy than your
- 21:22old image.
- 21:24Your potential deserves priority.
- 21:26Even if you don't think it does, it's
- 21:29what's going to get you through life.
- 21:30You are allowed, ladies and gentlemen, to leave
- 21:34any story where you are only surviving, not
- 21:39truly living.
- 21:40I know that's hard for a lot of
- 21:42people when they can think about that moment,
- 21:45when they can think about that thing, right?
- 21:48But it's true.
- 21:50You are allowed to leave any story where
- 21:52you are only surviving, not truly living.
- 21:56Let me say that again.
- 21:57You're allowed to leave any story where you
- 22:00are only surviving, not truly living.
- 22:06What does that mean?
- 22:07You're allowed to leave any story where you
- 22:11are only surviving.
- 22:14In other words, if you're only surviving and
- 22:17you're not really living and embracing life, I've
- 22:19said you can either live or you can
- 22:22thrive, right?
- 22:24Surviving is the beginning, but it's not the
- 22:28part that we get excited about.
- 22:30You want to live.
- 22:31You want to embrace life.
- 22:33Life is meant to be experienced fully.
- 22:40Sometimes there's some bumps along the road.
- 22:42You can start again any time you want,
- 22:44this time with more awareness, more strength, and
- 22:48even more intention.
- 22:49And we've learned before that intention is what
- 22:52makes us achieve our goals.
- 22:55Reinvention is not starting over.
- 22:59It's starting smarter.
- 23:01It's figuring out, well, what worked?
- 23:05What should I do this time?
- 23:10So I'm kind of restarting, but I have
- 23:13the knowledge of what worked, and then I
- 23:16can a6 all the stuff that didn't work.
- 23:17So reinvention is not starting over from scratch.
- 23:22It's not.
- 23:23It's taking everything you've learned and only applying
- 23:28the stuff that worked and leaving the stuff
- 23:30that didn't out.
- 23:32It's what I like to call starting smarter.
- 23:37So the amount of time it's going to
- 23:38take you to get up to where you
- 23:40need to be is going to be a
- 23:41lot quicker because now you're going to basically
- 23:46blow past all those pitfalls.
- 23:48In closing, ladies and gentlemen, this week is
- 23:53all about more than just inspiration, if you
- 23:56didn't know it.
- 23:57It is about release, movement, truth, perspective, proof,
- 24:06hope, and renewal.
- 24:09You see, one of the key things in
- 24:11life is to learn how to read the
- 24:13room.
- 24:14Read your life and choose the version of
- 24:16you that rises.
- 24:19Sometimes the version that rises may not have
- 24:23any cheerleaders or anybody supporting you in the
- 24:27beginning, but that's okay.
- 24:30Because, ladies and gentlemen, reinvention is not something
- 24:33you wait for.
- 24:36No.
- 24:37It is something you decide internally.
- 24:44What makes you do that?
- 24:47A gut reaction.
- 24:48I said before, if you keep doing the
- 24:51same things over and over and over again
- 24:53many times, what's going to happen?
- 24:57You're going to help somebody else, but you're
- 24:59also going to deplete the energy that you
- 25:01need to keep your cup full.
- 25:04How can we ever help others if our
- 25:06own cup is less than full?
- 25:10Some people run that cup down to empty.
- 25:15What happens if you run your gas tank
- 25:17down to empty?
- 25:20The car stalls.
- 25:21In some of the newer technology cars, if
- 25:25you run your car just before empty, even
- 25:29though there's enough fuel in there to get
- 25:31the car to go, if it doesn't have
- 25:33just a little bit more, all of your
- 25:35electronic systems are going to fail because the
- 25:40sensors are going to detect there's no fuel.
- 25:43That's going to give you all kinds of
- 25:45errors.
- 25:47How do you solve it?
- 25:48Put more fuel in the car.
- 25:50But if you have no fuel, how do
- 25:54you move past that?
- 25:58It's a perfect example of thinking if we
- 26:01just have a little in our cup, we
- 26:02have enough.
- 26:03No.
- 26:03We need to have full cups.
- 26:05That's not being selfish.
- 26:09That's being loving to ourselves because when we
- 26:12have full cups, it's only then that we
- 26:15can choose to help others.
- 26:16If our cup is never full, we're barely
- 26:21going to be able to survive, let alone
- 26:25thrive.
- 26:26That won't even be in the picture.
- 26:28We're barely going to be able to survive.
- 26:31So you can live a life of surviving
- 26:34or thriving.
- 26:36I choose thriving.
- 26:38But you can only thrive when you are
- 26:40in alignment with the things in your life.
