- Lucas: Ciao a tutti, and welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey Lucas, I have a confession... I ate way too many caramelle yesterday. And now I have a toothache. Lucas: Oh no, that's not good. But actually, that's a perfect segue into today's topic: Italian at the dentist. And hey – if this lesson helps you avoid a real dental nightmare, maybe it's worth the price of a coffee? If so, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Just saying. Luna: Yeah, totally. It's a small way to keep the show ad-free and help us keep making episodes like this one. Okay, so what's the first thing I need to say at the dentist? Lucas: The most basic phrase: Ho mal di denti. That means 'I have a toothache.' Repeat after me: Ho mal di denti. Luna: Ho mal di denti. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if the dentist asks where it hurts, you can say: Mi fa male qui – 'It hurts here.' Luna: Mi fa male qui. Lucas: Great. And the dentist might say: Apri la bocca – 'Open your mouth.' Luna: Apri la bocca. Lucas: You've got it. Now, you might also want to ask about the cost. So: Quanto costa una visita? – 'How much is a visit?' Luna: Quanto costa una visita? Lucas: And finally, if you need to find the dentist: Dov'è il dentista? – 'Where is the dentist?' Luna: Dov'è il dentista? Okay, I think I can remember that. So Lucas, let's imagine I'm at the dentist. I walk in and say... Lucas: Buongiorno, ho mal di denti. Luna: Buongiorno, ho mal di denti. Then the dentist says, 'Apri la bocca.' So I open, and then he asks where it hurts. I say, 'Mi fa male qui.' Lucas: Exactly. And after the exam, you might ask, 'Quanto costa una visita?' And he tells you the price. Then you ask, 'Dov'è il dentista?'... wait, you're already there. Luna: Yeah, that one's for finding the place. So let me try all five in a row. Ho mal di denti. Mi fa male qui. Apri la bocca. Quanto costa una visita? Dov'è il dentista? Lucas: Perfect. You're ready for your appointment. And listeners, repeat those phrases a few times today. They'll stick. Grazie mille, Luna. Luna: Grazie a te, Lucas. And remember, if this helped, support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Ciao! Lucas: Ciao ciao!
